"It just seemed like she always was a little off kilter over the years. So, you know, it's troubling, but I, and sadly to say, I wasn't overly surprised to hear of this, her passing at 56. And I don't know what the definitive cause was, but they, some people. A lot of the, a lot of the younger kids that these days, a little younger generation know her from her semi connection to well, not semi connection, her connection to Conor McGregor and his, his always praise of her and then her, his favorite musician. And she sang him into that huge fight he had against Jose Aldo when he became the, the champ, we knocked him out in about 15 seconds. That was one of the biggest UFC fights ever. Cause he had pulled out of the first one and she sang him into the ring. And I'll never forget that entrance with her above the, above the arena there. And he turned around to her and he spoke very highly of her and he was heartbroken today to hear the news. So he's also another troubled individual, very unstable when you think about Conor McGregor, you know, but he's got problems too. It's a shame. I mean, yeah. Terrible, terrible. And should I just put a wrap on this news with one more depressing news story? Yes, sir. Okay. Well fine. Three Marines were found unresponsive at a gas station near Camp Lejeune. Apparently they died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The three Marines found unresponsive at a Speedway gas station in North Carolina died of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to officials. Deputies from the Pender County Sheriff's office found the three men in a privately owned vehicle outside a convenience store on Sunday morning. The Lance corporals identified as US Marine Corps Tanner J. Katlinburg, 19 of Madison, Wisconsin, Merax Dockey, 23 of Patawatomi, Oklahoma, and Ivan Garcia of Naples, Florida were stationed at nearby Camp Lejeune. Autopsies performed Wednesday by the North Carolina office of the medical examiner determined all three deaths were the result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Listen, I grossly underestimated Tommy Fury and I grossly overestimated Jake Paul. Well, talk about whose fault was what? I guess when we get into that. Just because I was like, that seems like the mentality and you so hype and really feels like he's figuring it out. And watching this, it was even fight for a ton, but he got the better everywhere to the point of when it was time to finish it. He did. Love that main event for him. The biggest thing of my night. Is that the biggest thing everybody's night. This should have been the main event. Tatiana Suarez is back. No one's fucking with her on the ground. No, well, look, she fought at a higher weight class. And yeah, she has some difficulties getting my down early. And then she got it down. Something like guillotine is a rap. Now you're telling me she's going to drop back down ten pounds? Good luck. My only concern with Tatiana Suarez is for striking. Because she doesn't, really. Yeah, and there wasn't, again, when you missed that much time in the octagon, you can't replicate that. There's no real place to refine that. If she was healthy and going through, she would add three years of striking under a belt, would have been a different animal. Yeah. But, I mean, what she would have a one trick. That's what I'm saying, what she does is really well and she imposes her will. You could tell that the weight difference affected her a bit, like she would go for hip tosses or headlock throws and she was like, shit. All right, he's strong, but she eventually got it down. One 15, they're going to struggle keeping tattoos wars off them. But again, some of these girls can strike. If they got good footwork and peace Tatiana, I'd like to see it, how she navigates that. Erin blanchfield showed the world like, hey, y'all don't know me from my striking. Watch this. And then beat up on just gone drives and submitted her. Tatiana Suarez may be able to do the same thing. I just would like to see it. So I don't know where they go with it right now. You know what it reminds me of. Someone else who was often injured, not a ton of fights when he was an animal, but we knew it. And striking was the question mark. Habib. Yeah. And Michael Johnson, for a quick second, peace them up and around. He was like, I'm done with this. Took him down. It was a rap. This is what reminds me of they miss, there was a point where Habib missed so much octagon. But it's around the same trajectory where it's like the grappling is so good. That you have the best striking in the world. There's no reason Habib should have been able a granny he'd grown a lot since then. You should have been able to stand with Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, stood enough, wrapped the ass up. Just engage he doesn't get to look like nothing. The guy has the best leg kicks since Jose Aldo. Nothing. If she can develop that and use that, especially in lower rate class, where she could use her strength, put people against octagon. Take them down from there. You got to run. You got to run. Use your dab because as soon as she corners you, it's over. Well, you look at the top of that division. So rose damn you. Yeah, she could power out. On roads. I don't know if she could do that with zang though. Whaley Zhang is strong as fuck. So that's the one that I'm like, I don't know if you could just impose your will on her 'cause nobody's really done it, right? Like rose knocked her out. It's not a striker. But I like to see Tatiana Suarez in Roseanne units at some point because I'm very interested in that dynamic between striker and wrestler. But if that's a main event, you got to go 5 rounds with that. It's a lot to deal with, a lot of pressure. Like Tatiana Suarez is incredible putting pressure on you. She cuts off the ring well. She does real subtle movements to make the cage shrink. She's really good at what she does. I would like to see her fight rose. I'm curious how that fight goes. I don't know what they pair up with. Back at one 15. I don't know who their first fight is. Hopefully it's not like Michelle Waterson 'cause he's just gonna beat the hell out of her. Cookie monster is a good thing. "HELP dot com slash Bill Simmons. All right, so you mentioned the baggage. And the lack of success in the 21st century, which starts with the music city miracle. I think that was in 2000. The 99 going to 2000. So it was like January 2000. There was basically that you start the century that. And then last January, you have the 13 seconds game. With the baggage with this team, you mentioned how sometimes that's a good thing to have. I disagree in some cases, but in other cases, yes, like the 1986 Red Sox, when we had when we blew the World Series, we had 13 chances with two strikes. That's debacle. The 80 17, it was just we were dead men walking the entire year. There was just the hangover that was terrible. But in O three, the Aaron Boone Homer loose to the yanks in the next year, it's like they kind of, they had this attitude like, well, fuck it. We hit rock bottom or three O against the yanks and just fucking attitude emerge from it. What attitude is emerged from the bills since that 13 seconds game because I feel like people have skipped over a little and how it relates to this season where there's almost like no baggage from it. Is it just we have too much to talk about now as sports? Because that was one of the worst football losses of all time. And it's kind of just over here now and nobody mentions it. Maybe it's naivete, but I never thought that that was going to break them. I have too much faith in Josh on. I think a lot of athletes, you know, there's a fighter named Jose Aldo, who just retired from the UFC. He was knocked out by Conor McGregor in 13 seconds in 2015. Greatest featherweight champion of all time. And I said on Sunday that his legacy aren't all the title defenses, aren't all the wins, aren't all the knockouts, aren't all the headliners that he had. It's that he didn't let that moment, which ironically, by the way, it's crazy that I'm making this analogy. He lost him 13 seconds to Conor McGregor. That's an insane right there on my part. Thank you. I didn't plan that. Ironically, 13 seconds, he didn't let that moment in 2015 define him. He didn't let it break him. He didn't let that swallow him up. In fact, he ended up coming back and winning an interim title and moving down to 35 and fighting for the belt there. And so I feel the same way about Josh. Now Josh didn't have the resume leading up to that point that Aldo did, but there's something about this young man that I just felt even on that horrible night in January this past year. I didn't feel like this was going to define him. I didn't think that this was going to happen. But he came through. I mean, the defense was screwed it up, yeah. It took the lead. Gabe Davis showed up. They all showed up, the defense array, Leslie Fraser, kind of let them down. But honestly, I really felt week one, we're going to find out who these guys are, right? I was always worried about that Pittsburgh Steelers lost in week one of last year because I felt like they believed their own hype too much and they got punched in the mouth. The perfect scenario was go back to LA, the site of where you would have won the Super Bowl and I believe till this day in my heart of hearts, they beat the chiefs that night, they're beating the Bengals at home and they're beating the rams at home as well to win the Super Bowl. You go there, you set the tone and they couldn't have done a better job. And honestly, do you think I'm crazy for saying this? I really don't feel like we've seen their best. I really feel like they have another gear. And I can't wait to see it. I don't know when it's going to come, but even the first half last night, I was like, this is not that great. This is not number one seed football. A second half was tremendous. Putting it together for and that was a 41 to 7 game against the number one seed. Unbelievable. I can't even, I can't even put it into words. This is amazing. And come on, do you have to admit, football's more fun with the bills doing well, right? Well, they basically basically the pat's handed the torch to them. What are you talking about? Well, the Pats say they dominated the AFC. They won in 2001, they did in 2002 and then from O three all the way through the 2010s, they were crushing it and they were either one or the two seed every year. And then as that's dying, the bills rise up. And I had Sean fantasy who I work with who's a huge Jets fan was just like, I don't understand this. We just had 20 years of Brady, and now I have 15 years of Josh. Like two thirds of my life as a football fan with these two fucking guys. What did I do to deserve this? Joe Flacco. "Watch one fight, that would capture him the best that's on YouTube with him. What would you go with? 15 minutes, they just want to watch one with them. So in September of 2020, he fought this guy named Paulo Costa in Abu Dhabi. This dude looked like, I mean, he looks like the second coming of The Incredible Hulk, but also looks like a male model. Like he's just an incredibly good-looking guy, but he's gigantic. He's muscle he's got muscles on top of muscles. He's like, he's like a blown up version of Rick the model martell if you get what I'm trying to say. Yeah. He just doesn't come out with the arrogance. He smoked him. He absolutely smoked him. At the end of the fight, not only did he smoke him, like he like humped him. And he did it in a very sort of derogatory way. Like it was that embarrassing. He finished him as well. And it was a title fight. I would say that one also, I would say UFC two 43, Melbourne, Australia, October of 2019, 55,000 people in Australia rooting against him, he fought the then champion Robert Whittaker and spoke to him and finished him in the second round. One of the greatest performances as a challenger in a title fight that I've ever seen. Probably second to Conor McGregor beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC two O 5 when Connor moved up to win the lightweight title. This was up there and it was just amazing. Also I just want to give a shout out to his fight before that one. He's fighting in Atlanta, Georgia gets a guy named Kelvin Gastelum for the interim belt and there's a great scene. They're going into the 5th round. He's all beat up, like his face is puffy. The fight was probably tougher than he expected. And the camera catches him saying to himself, I'm ready to die. And like when you see that, when you see a guy telling himself, I am ready to die, like that tells you who he is and what's in here. Just a fascinating individual and I can't say enough good things about him. Wow. So him getting the July 4th weekend spot. The main event, huge dog. Is that symbolic or is it just a timing because other guys didn't have the fight? Or is that intentional? This is our biggest show. This guy has to be in this spot. It's a little bit of a and a little bit of B obviously Connor's not around. He's always the guy that's going to get the nod first. I'm writing a spot last year. It was him versus Dustin, right? But I would say, I mean, he is up there. He's top 5 biggest names in the sport. He's the one that they're putting on the ESPN banners and whatnot. So it's a little bit of timing. Obviously. And there were some other names that were being discussed for this. But no, this is a no brainer. The thing is Jared isn't the biggest name. So there's not like this heat between them, so to speak. But is he did say two years ago? He thought that Jared cannonier was a dark horse in the division and was hoping that he would be able to get to this spot. So he has a tremendous amount of respect for him and he's even been talking about submitting him, which would be crazy. I think is he via submission. Last I checked was like plus 2000 and he keeps talking about submitting this guy. That would be nuts. I don't know if he pulls it off. I doubt he pulls it off, but still fun nonetheless. Interesting. The co main event is tremendous. It's absolute great theater. It's Alexander the Great volkanovski who is actually Izzy's teammate. So here you have the Australian volkanovski who trains with the now New Zealander, Israel Adesanya in New Zealand, city kickboxing, the small gym in Auckland. They've developed these great fighters. He's the featherweight champion of the world, and he's en route to being one of the greatest featherweights of all time. I still have him behind Jose Aldo, the legend. He's fighting Max Holloway. Max Holloway has now entered this category where I think there are certain guys in the UFC who are bigger than the belt and their respective weight class. Conor doesn't need a title to be as famous as he can be. Nate Diaz doesn't need a title to be. You know, there are certain guys who are just bigger than the belt. And then there are certain guys who need the belt to get over, right? Max is the type of guy who I think is bigger than the featherweight title. That being said, he's a former featherweight champion, but this is why this fight is so interesting. He's zero in two, against volkanovski. They've fought twice before. He lost to him. He lost the belt to him in December of 2019 at T mobile's site of the event on Saturday, and then he lost to him again in July of 2020 in Abu Dhabi. Now most people, including myself, thought he won. I watched that fight. That was one of the first pandemic things we had to watch. Yes. July 2020, that was the Boswell usman car where he took the fight on a week's notice. A bit of a questionable call. And he's now had to work. He's had to win two fights workers way back up. And volkanovski, I think he's gone better since that second fight. So here's volkanovski having to defend his title again against Holloway Holloway in the very rare spot. This rarely happens. You know, the guy's zero in two against the champion and he's getting another crack at him. This is do or die. You lose this fight. You're not getting a fourth crack, right? Even if it's controversial, they can't do it again. And so really, really big spot for him, volkanovski just had a fight in April, smoked The Korean Zombie, like I wasn't even supposed to look like a sparring match. He's done really good former rugby player, used to weigh 211 pounds, played rugby in Australia, now weighs one 45 and not the biggest personality, not an easy type of showman, but has become one of the best fighters on the planet. So my top threes, again, like overarching. My top three pound for pound right now, Kamaru Usman number one, Israel dasani number two. Alex volkanovski number three. So two of the best three fighters on the planet, regardless of weight class, are fighting on this card and Holloway is probably number 6 or 7. And so if you have a situation where number three is fighting, that never happens at two guys in the top ten are fighting for the belt in their respective weight class. So this is a big deal. It's a grudge match. They don't like each other. They've gone back and forth. Oh, there's no love lost? Oh, no. You didn't tell me that. No, sorry, yes. I buried the lead, as they say in the beginning. Jesus. No love lost. In fact, I had Holloway on my program yesterday and he never says his name. It's a very weird thing. He never actually says Vulcan. Every time he talks and refers to kanowski, he calls them him. He is a very weird thing where I feel like he almost feels like he's beneath him and he doesn't want to put him over. You know, give him the rub because max without the belt is even a bigger star than volkanovski. Volkanovski is the one who has to keep calling him out as the champion. It's a weird dynamic, but this is the fight that I think could put volkanovski over, give him that shine, get him. If he can win decisively, they've gone the distance twice and not let this go to the judges, this could put volkanovski up there as one of the biggest stars in the sport.
