"He needs to be risky. Yeah. We started over Austin Eker. Yes. Let's see what happens above and Gordon would you start Jordy Nelson or Devin funchess. Funchess. Funches Jordy Nelson or Cortlandt Sutton. That's a good one. I I actually have them back to back. I'll go Jordan Jordy Nelson her Matt Brita. Jordy and PR Brita has not caught a pass and four games. Yeah. I mean breed has got a great chance here. If he's healthy ready to go Oakland. They are terrible against running backs. They allow five point one yards per carry two running backs the third most fantasy points to opposing running backs. Yeah. How excited are you about nap Rita? He's a number two running back on the week with sixteen on a by the. I don't even think he's a number two running back and PR, but and and non I I like him more than seven Coleman, but less than Jordan Howard and less than Doug Martin. But if he were healthy pretua healthy he'd be a must start, right? No. I don't know if I'd say must start Moster. If he were healthy, he would be most. I mean, I think he's almost are. Now, just again to give them the circumstances. And how would you compare Doug Martin? Same. So you had a both who just start breeder Martin freedom. I would start Martin which tied at Martin PR, sir. Which tight end do you like better kill cook? Kill but they're both in my top five in both back back. All right. Yeah. So don't get cute. Start started. That changes the better, though, if Beth out would you start the raiders? The awful raiders. I'd consider it. Their starting quarterback is better out. I honestly forgot Thomas something. Tom savage is their third string quarterback. I don't know if they'd may be upgrade him, but believe Nick Molen. Okay. Yeah. It's it's interesting. It's an interesting. Yeah. It's it's awful. It's case game's going to be terrible and Marcus Goodwin starter sit. Same thing with Beth, right? I think if Beth replace he's number three receiver with upside. If Beth 'Red is out, no chance. Yeah. I'm probably just sitting regardless. All righty that that does it for this terrible game. We got a lot more to talk about including our second sponsor the day who wants to remind you that starting CJ Beathard or his backup. Rather would be not smart starting. Jalen Sharda MPR would be smart using any company not names ZipRecruiter to find someone for your.

"Just want people to know that. This was Michael McDonald song before it was regulators. Let's go to Oakland. San Francisco stat of the game. Are you know that wide receivers with eight or more targets against the Niners? Do well. I've said that like ten times last week how about wide receivers with six or more targets against San Francisco. Ten of thirteen wide receivers with six or more targets against the Niners. Scored double digit fantasy points, non PR. So Jordy Nelson Seth Roberts. Anyone anyone people start? Jalen Rashard injured. Why they're the only players more targets Nelson. Got in has eight targets this season. Yeah. Games last week, not so much. Jordy Nelson had four targets one catch fourteen yards. But he played the most. Yeah. So this game is not like nobody wants to watch it. I get it. But there's actually a lot of fantasy potential here. We don't have good defenses. It would suck if Beth or doesn't play. But why don't we start with the with the raiders and? Are there? A lot of starts on the raiders. I think you're starting boats running backs I will bump Doug Martin up. A little better is out and dropped. Jalen Rashard down a little if better resort is a little bit risky because a lot of his work is coming teams down two scores. I'm not sure that they're gonna be down to all in this game. I've probably starting Jordy Nelson. I'm definitely starting Jericho agree. Let's talk about their car you'd go with its Patrick over car. We know that from yesterday. Would you go with Russell Wilson? Derek Carr Wilson. I Wilson one spot higher. Yes. Ben rothlisberger. At baltimore. Derek Carr right now car hire I've been here. Okay. Car is about fifteenth for everybody fourteenth day fifteen for Jamie sixteenth, four heath. So he's an okay start and. You prefer Martin to Rashard. What what did you say in PR to format? Martin and non PR Rashard is much higher than Peter. Yes. I agree. I I do think we're short a little bit risky. All right. Would you start Aaron Jones or one of these guys? Jones. I'd start Jones over both in non PR start Rashard over Jones, Peter I wanted to bring up one thing about Jalen Rashard. He's actually only the number thirty two running back and PR. Per game or for the season for those east by. For the season. Yeah. So maybe he's like twenty four fish, you know, on a per game basis that are now just a wild. Guess he just doesn't do anything. But catch passes eat never scores. He doesn't get carries. So she won't put that in perspective a little bit. And he's always seventy own..

"Those full eight hours or more sleep. For me, it's more of the routine than I have before patches. After practice. I have something to do on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, all the way through the week. And it's the same thing every week. My body knows what to expect. If it's coal tubs, hot tubs, massage, massages watching what you eat, how much we just make sure when it comes Sunday, you're ready to go. Finishing Jordy Nelson of the Oakland Raiders Jordy. I've watched Jon Gruden for a long time going back to when he coached here the first time and going on to Tampa. And then I thought he was never gonna coach again. And now he's back. The guy has been out of coaching for almost ten years. Take me into a meeting room. Take me into the huddle. Take me onto the practice field with Jon Gruden. What do you see? What have you seen in Jon Gruden? Overson stands out as energy and Thursday, and the pride that he takes being a part of this organism. Again. And then obviously the knowledge of the game and understanding. What he wants to the matchup he wants to create and how to create them. I think some people, you know, like he's football's past them up football. At the end of the day, there's a lot of coaches I've tried to try to come in and do some new things, and some of words and some of worked for a very short period of time. And at the end of the day is all the execution and run the ball, catching the ball and making plays and tackling. So. But I think his energy in isn't if it's it's every day in the meeting rooms on the practice field is definitely, you know, carrying over into the players, I'll tell you the one thing that I saw it here on the practice field that I thought was interesting. I've never seen it before. There was a session in this practice today where the quarterbacks threw football's without laces, and I just I had to go up to him afterwards. I wouldn't the world is that you know. And he said he had gone back and looked at an awful lot of TV copy of football over the last few years. Aaron Rodgers. Ben Rothlisberger, Tom Brady many times in the course of a game there in a hurry. They get a bad shotgun snap, and they've got to throw the ball without the laces. So he said, why don't we practice that? It seems incredibly sensible, and yet I've never seen that before. Right. And that's one thing I think he's also gained by being away. He's been to a lot of different organizations in seeing how guys practice on what they do, and you know taking what he, what he wants from those in what he thinks works. So yeah, it's being is trying to. For every situation. If it's a wet ball, no laces doing the ball security drills with the water loaded balls that make them feel heavier. So when you have that normal football enlighten easy to carry. So they brought out some new things and it's been great and it's a good change it. Jordy Nelson have a great year have two or three more great years. It's really good to see you playing football. I appreciate it. Thanks..

"And now my conversation with Jordy Nelson of the Oakland Raiders. Back on the Peter King podcast, happy to be joined out in Napa, California with Jordy Nelson of the Oakland Raiders and Jordi were here as training camp closes for the raiders and I know you've had some time to get used to it, but it sure looks weird to see you in silver and black. How long did it take you to adjust to that? It took about a day or two, obviously walking into a new building, seeing the jerseys. I think there's a little step of working out in the silver and black. And then when we finally got into OTA's and putting a helmet on his stuff like that, so. But I, I mean, once about a day for each item and once we got into football became football again and just playing with some new guys. You've been fortunate in my opinion anyway. When you look back at your football career, if you play for two franchises and it's the Green Bay Packers in the Oakland Raiders. Part of me when I saw you sign with Oakland, I said, well, maybe he's unhappy that he's not enough. Green Bay anymore. But wow, if you retire, having played for Fred bulletin coughs team, cliff branches team, James Lofton's team as well as all the great history in Green Bay. How does that hit you. I thought about once I did sign to be part of the two historic organizations in this league, you know date back to the beginning of the NFL and you know to organizations that are about winning and first and foremost. So it's one of those things that I learned quickly in Green Bay. You can win there and make history like we didn't do ten, you'll forever be remembered in hopefully we can win some games here and see if we can make some history as well. Can you just take my listeners into what it feels like to have been such an integral part of one team for so long and to be, you know, the key guy with Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, and then you wake up one morning and you find out maybe they really don't want me what, what is that feeling? Like? It's a feeling of shock probably and surprise. So you know, there's rumors going on and. I think there's a little truth to every rumor or, but it's one of those things that when you never really got far down the road with them in talking about a restructure, right? No, it was pretty blunt that it was either be released or there was no restructure was a pay cut to close the league minimum. So. But so I mean, at the end of that honesty made it easier decision. You felt when I had the meeting, you know, you feel personally that the new GM. So once that happened and you realize necessarily didn't really want you around anymore, so made the decision easy so, but we're excited to be out in California thankful for the opportunity to be out here in the way coach Gruden in his staff approached me mentally after the news broke and dwell connect with Derek when I was out on my visit and getting a feel for him and understanding that this would be a place that would work for myself and my family. It's gotta be hard to realize that you had such a. Great thing with Aaron Rodgers and you're leaving, and he still gonna play a few more years and you're going to just to a new quarterback. Tell me what that is like and what it's been like to work with Derek after working with Aaron. You know, it's a new challenge and to thank will come in here and be on the same level of Aaron and I were isn't going to happen. I mean, you can't make up ten years and four months. We're gonna do our best to to get to that level of soon as possible, but there's a lot of history there, you know, over ten years, so, but to be able to work with one of the best quarterbacks again as as an honor, a blessing, especially as a receiver, and we'll just continue to grind it out..

"What do you make of Aaron Rodgers calling, out his teammates for bad practice Aaron Rodgers. Is crabby he's crabby about. The way his wide receivers were playing at practice yesterday. He's crabby about no contract extension, he's crabby, about Jordy Nelson being cut loose. He's crabby about them getting. Rid of his old. Quarterbacks coach he's just crabby and he's speaking his mind and I like it I wanna see what's going, to happen if it's. A big if the Green, Bay Packers, aren't very good this year. "Even, half of the drops that Cooper had a lot and put those receptions I, mean is numbers look on a whole lot better that's. Fair enough Good point From the of Jordy Nelson I think will will will toss Cooper to grow up and become the receiver he has potential. To be so I think a big year for car. This year. All right thanks. A lot that's a. Great point Amari Cooper had a lot of drops so to, Michael Crabtree a very short handed receiver for the raiders he had some. Uncharacteristic drops last chats are very. Good point. He's right Amari Cooper did have a lot. Of drops you're. Exactly right, you know we always talk about that that's not factored into. A quarterback, you know I always think touchdown interception ratio is sometimes. Very misleading I think quarterbacks to throw hail Marys or have balls that are perfectly thrown that goes off or receivers hands on. Our intercepted, I just, you know we always talk about touchdown. Interception ratio like that's the only thing. That matters I'd like to see kind of a stat in. The NFL that's kind of like with pitchers. In baseball. Earned-run average, you know there's two outs and there's a run, around third and there's a routine, ground ball hit, the second and it's an error in the run scores that is not charged to. The pitchers. Run average I'd like to see See that in the NFL I mean there, are a lot of times guys though perfectly throwing footballs or hail Marys at the end of half score. At the end of games that are picked off and. You know. They show up. Is just very very. Simple interceptions and their quarterbacks that there are some quarterbacks in, the NFL don't care about interceptions in I'll tell you why manning doesn't. Care aligning does not care how. Many interceptions. He throws at the end of games he. Doesn't care if. You down, by three touchdowns and you have the ball at the forty. Yard line, and they're five seconds left he's going to try to. Make a play and at the balls intercepted it's intercepted and I'm not saying he doesn't make some bad throws but I mean. Hail Marys, perfectly thrown, balls that are deflected that are intercepted. Go well gee you know he had. Three interceptions in this game and then you know they were. Very often all three interceptions one was on. A hail. Mary and, to run deflections and we think that's a bad, game for quarterback how's that a, bad game for, quarterback quarterback made the right throws his receivers didn't do the job that last caller. Spot on. I gotta give him Credit Amari Cooper. Couldn't catch cold last year I mean it was he drop after drop after. Drop so that's right that did not help out there a car and Amari Cooper is he got so much talent he has the. Breakaway aspect run after catch everything else he's, an electrifying player but you've got to be able to catch the football he had what seven, touchdowns last year how many drops did he have led the team drops it wasn't, even, close, all right, here's what we're gonna do an hour, number three we're going, to have her med words the head coach of Arizona state and then after her yeah we. Are going to talk with Charles Davis from FOX. And the NFL network that's all coming up one hour left right here grant, Napier in the jungle sitting in for Jim Rome. On CBS sports radio In a. Game it's all about being ready to make your move when the time is right it's the. Same thing with O'Reilly autoparts when you need a part but you're not, in the right, position to go, pick, it.

"I don't know i didn't have a problem with it i thought it was good i didn't i didn't have one problem that even even when i saw them dancing and every time who knows who was drinking what didn't have had zero concerned about them finishing the regular season surprise to me that i saw that a lot of people like you said were irritated by it i mean like like i if you're an athlete that wants to go out have fun especially with your teammates i mean people recording everything that's going on unless it was just told before this is what we're gonna do we're gonna video it like if you want to have a couple of pops have a couple of puffs no one's going to even say anything but yes it's the fact that i i just don't like that it was taped yeah i like that that's the world we live in though i mean everything's taped everything's recorded and when you're not not really not really when you're a superstar those of those guys level in that's just that's the world you live it i guess you have to cherish those private moments even more when you're a global superstar like steph but you know if you're if you're on steps level everybody's got a camera following you everywhere you go probably is tiring about steph i be irritated as hell that's just that's two thousand eighteen nba for sure no doubt what else on your mind but whichever what else you got going on tonight we have a lot of things to get to obviously would it be talking nfl at eight thirty brett ganey is going to hop on lot of movement in the nfl jordy nelson visiting the raiders visit the niners alan robinson going to chicago lot of things happening a lot of things happening in the nfl so we'll talk to brett ganey thirty how do you feel if your aj mccarron right now i don't know it's an interesting move right i mean very good question actually i don't know how i would feel if i'm aj mccarron at feel like crap or they're starting to the i mean you're mike glennon signed yet another deal before you your opportunities.

Muhammad Wilkerson, Green Bay Packers reach agreement on deal

"Yeah the bears are getting better they're doing all this work and they still got no chance of competing with the packers and the vikings now right i would think though and matthew stafford's not going anywhere in detroit forgot about the lions i'm fascinated by the packers because this is a brand new era for how long green bay never spend money in free agency with ted thompson now they would dabble every so often julius peppers as one veteran that they did sign a more high profile guy but now you're talking about jimmy graham robbed a mosque you covers the packers for us just reports them muhammad wilkerson is gonna sign with green in bay my opinion is they're feeling the pressure now because aaron rodgers is too great to walk away from this game with only one super bowl title so i think that plays into there is more pressure letting jordy nelson go probably because he doesn't run very well anymore but there's a new gm and a new philosophy in green bay and kirk cousins people debate that contract look the vikings are giving him a fully guaranteed deal because they think they can win the super bowl right now not next year the year after that signing kirk cousins is about winning a championship in two thousand eighteen so jeff who's under more pressure at this point the packers to maximize whatever the opportunity is for aaron rodgers or kirk cousins maximize whatever the opportunity is for the vicario jason i i would say it's vikings management rick spielman is actually under more pressure than kirk cousins because cousins has got his money he played the system per.

"Nfl network reporter tom pella sarah was reporting that the packers deal with muhammad wilkerson the defensive lineman one year five million dollars base plus three million in incentives so this is a very friendly deal given the talent level of muhammad wilkerson if he produces at the level that i'm sure muhammad wilkerson feels he can the packers will have themselves a bargain player so eight million max for the packers or the base salary of five million on a one year deal for a one time dominant player in the nfl definitely the packers should be getting themselves a motivated player in muhammad wilkerson earlier tonight packers gm brian good echoes met with the media yes that is new i mean that that doesn't happen often for the packers gm but brian good codes met with the media at about seven o'clock tonight he did not get into the demaria's randall trade the signing of jimmy graham or the future signing of jimmy graham and certainly nothing to do with muhammad wilkerson not able to talk about that stuff just yet because of the way the league is constructed but he was able to talk about the release of jordy nelson here's packers gm brian good goes from earlier tonight tough days we have to make releases a players who have meant so much your relation to team jordy nelson is one of the packers of have played here and you were such an excellent player on the field excellent player in locker room and obviously in the community as well he's he's everything you want pro to be he'll be missed him and his wife i'm only really established roots in this community and i left a very solid impression so he'll be missed and we wish him well opportunity to take a pay cut before going to talk too much about that there are a lot of the discussions that went on but in fairness to him we'll get into those kind of discussions union yeah i don't think at this time you never say never i would like to keep that relationship is strong as possible but at the same time i wouldn't say this time when did you approach him all this all half hours we all knew it was a possibility.

Jimmy Graham needs Jordy Nelson-like connection with Aaron Rodgers

"Right so i like what the bears are doing they're being smart they're pretty much spending money when they need to all right the bears are going to be a good team this season and then you've got the green bay packers signed jimmy graham but at jordy nelson's expense jordy nelson has been cut by the green bay packers right jordy nelson had a great career green bay but i just think is prime is way past them and he's just a shell of what he wants was all right i could be wrong but i doubt it is what it is but now jimmy grams thirteen dues play with amazing quarterbacks all three teams he's played with right had drew brees russell wilson aaron rodgers not right you i think that jimmy graham is going to return to the old jimmy graham no fire to say is he score more than seven touchdowns this season the over under seven i'll take the over but it's going to be at eight nine he's not getting ten this year if he gets ten i'm wrong and i'll be surprised but nonetheless i just don't see it happening i think jimmy graham he's going to be a good addition for that team and maybe it's just his seattle years are kind of scared me away from what to think as far as what he could do a green bay maybe that's all it is all right and that could be it but i just i'm not sure i think a wait and see type thing it's like it with a richard sherman right not sure how well which really is going to play with the forty niners we gotta wait and see once he steps on the philip and same with jimmy graham i mean is air roger's gonna make sure he's a big part of that offense or is he going to be feeding guys like devante adams who got a queue breakout your the season right demonte adams is far and away the best player on that offense decides aaron rodgers right he's better than jimmy graham that's no doubt so it's going to be interesting to see how it all ends up for green bay and as far as jordan.

"What why do i said gimme grams production has declined each of the last three years why do you think that's the case paul knows exactly well you probably are going to have this correct what is it the simple drew brees versus russell wilson you ever premier nfl quarterback against the guy who's about the eighteenth twentieth best player in the in the league at that position also new orleans is a team that throws the ball almost every play seattle is a run first type of opeds one of the reasons why you're gonna see the production of a guy go down when he goes to new orleans to seattle is just the nature of how those teams play their games seattle also has traditionally had a much better defense in new orleans therefore was playing more from you know they didn't have the same need to put a million points up on the board one would think the jimmy graham coming to green bay now with aaron rodgers is the quarterback will put up the kind of numbers that he put up in new orleans age he's thirty what that's a little old to be giving a guy a lot of money and betting the franchise on on the other hand the guy they're letting go is even older jordy nelson i think if you asked me who the better football player and better receiver is right now i would say it's jimmy graham if you ask me the biggest downside on this it would be the jordy nelson i think rogers and nelson rogers may jordy nelson better than jordy nelson was because aaron rodgers new but jordy nelson strengths word he knew where it could put it we throw the ball exactly to him and i think that they had over the years they developed a symmetry or a chemistry that made them a very effective dual and i don't know that you can automatically have that happen instantaneously i will say that this is a much better move than ken thompson himself made last year when he tried to improve the tight end position when he brought in the two malcontents in martellus bennett and kendricks i will give this a thumbs up as well that's an initial response we have to take a look at all the moves they make and i do think.

"You can't go out there trying to protect that collarbone now you may be meets to know as my good friend herve edward sensors now that go gerald arizona state so when the journeys over you know don't risk yourself but play aaron rodgers football in cordell you know this better than anybody aaron is the best that second level play in other words it's not there and the machine breaks down he uses his mobility the find that second or third receiver and a lot of jordy nelson for a chunk play he has to play like that for them to be successful against a very good carolina today on the nfl on tune intray let's focus on a topic been discussing at nfl live only a handful of premier receivers like jerry rice have ever been in the mvp conversation do you think antonio brown is a real contender this year well gender thinking plenty of great numbers but here's one thing that i think all holding back right now federov of berger is second only to todd radiant bashing here let me on bell lead the league in rushing yards and antonio brown lethally you can receiving your we never at a team that has the leading the league roster and the leading receiver on the same squad and the way these things play out that might end up being the case to the steelers and if that happens i think as well as antonio brown has played it actually might take away from the argument for him being the fdp because of all the other weapons on the tape look he's phenomenal and when they need to go to find it but i think because of those other players and where they are.

"That's gonna be it but the patriots still claimed him all right well politics got me let's go so this might be some funny business there is too what was the communication like what the patriots because 25 other teams had to pass on him before he could just be signed an and picked up off the waiver wire so that was one deal the second deal is this jordy nelson does not tweet allott jordy nelson is not run to instagram a bunch jordy nelson immediately went on instagram to defend doctor patrick mckenzie who has the doctor that was disparaged by martellus bennett the same comes from john kuhn who's no longer on the team james jones has been a near studio before an errand rogers all these guys came out and supported the doctor now what's fascinating as i spoke to mike mccarthy on saturday he never even address that with the team so this came organically from the players it wasn't initiative from the top down like hey we got to support our dr there's no no the players came out and instead of supporting a fellow player supported the team doctor said not only is this guy the best dr i've ever had he's also a real friend and has our best interest current former and player around the league i thought it was fascinating to see how that went down i picked carolina to win their division i've always believed their offense of lines hit and miss for me but i like their defense personnel they'll get greg olsen back i picked him as a playoff team to win this division what's maddening though is cam newton's hit or miss eichel and roller coaster cam last night that's cam at his best now do we just say it's the dolphins or do we say they're doing something different now now that was picasso last night that's the kamnu and you want like you said fourteen weeks a season and sometimes you only get at five i will say this i did their weak one game against the forty nine as i spoke with came i spoke of ron rivera they said pretty much it's going to take oh i got to be patient from to come back from a serious serious shoulder injury i.
