"Into this lineup. It's hard to imagine how he doesn't really fit and make them better. You have a different answer about viewers that yours too. No, that was my answer to. In fact, I even wrote that exact sentence out basically. He was a three and a half wind player last year with a 7 16 OPS. I mean, he's kind of an incredible player. Like, he basically doesn't need to hit at all. And if he reverts back to anything like 2018 or 2019, this lineup is basically impossible to navigate for essentially every other team in this division who has some question marks and they're starting rotation. I think it's pretty terrifying to add him into this lineup and think that he might bounce back at all. Yeah. Wear stuff season move was releasing Greg bird minutes before we started recording today, which saddens me greatly. I don't know where Greg bird was going to play. Are we all still believers in the bird Assange? I will never not believe it, Greg Ford. And he actually was hitting quite well in spring trading, but it's a tough lineup to crack. I believe that the bougie has a pretty good first baseman already. So tough, tough lineup, but someone will be made happy by Greg birds. Yeah, but the jokes won't be as good, so. That's really too bad. Can we just make I will take the contrarian perspective here just so that we mention them before, but boy is this a fun rotation now and boy have they brought in some reinforcements like lest we forget they added Kevin gausman. They brought in kikuchi who did well to bet on himself because he certainly did better than the option he had with the Mariners would have afforded him, so it's like now this rotation is very us and Gaussian and Ryu and manoa and kikuchi and you know there are some injury concerns with all of those guys or at least some of them, but like that's pretty great unless we forget they extended to Jose beria, so you know they get to enjoy him for a little while. I don't know, this is a good baseball team you guys. Pretty good. Which makes the next couple of questions pretty hard because the categories are biggest strength and biggest weakness. And I guess it's all relative because I don't know that there is a real weakness on this team, but Bobby, you want to go first this time. You have a biggest strength. There's not well biggest strength I would say is just to line up as a whole. They can do essentially everything. There's guys that hit for power. There's guys that get on base, there's guys that see a lot of pitches, like they are going to be very, very hard to face. Biggest weakness was probably the hardest of any category of the entire division with the Blue Jays. For me, which is incredible because, you know, they're the Blue Jays. They usually have a pretty big weakness, but I guess the back half of the rotation despite what you said, Meg, I do have some question marks about how much they can hold up and what their plan really is. It should Gucci kind of does his yo yo back and forth between having a really good season, promising season and kind of having a really bad season. So I guess that would be the one question mark, but I don't really want to pick it here. Like I think that they're pretty well rounded pretty incredible team without an obvious weakness. Yeah, I wrote for biggest weakness and I don't know if this really counts, but losing ray and semi in, just because they bring in Gaussian. They bring a kikuchi, they bring a Chapman and it's really exciting and they were such a good team last year, but they also, I believe, lost more free agent war just in those two players than any other team this year because ray won the Cy Young and semi had finished third in MVP voting. They were both healthy all year. So they aren't necessarily adding Chapman and Gauss men so much as using them to replace guys who are already awesome last year and they have help elsewhere like George Springer was hurt for a lot of last season and he should be healthy this year. But it's not necessarily like, oh, they won X amount of games, and you can just add Chapman's and gaussians value there, which are replacement. So I think they're still going to be awesome. They're my pick to win the division and maybe go even farther than that because they underperform their Pythagorean records so much last year. So as Ben mentioned earlier, they were really like a 99 win team as opposed to in the low 90s, but it's not quite like they're adding to a hundred win roster already. Well, and I think that we can remember that Gauss men had some had some difficulty down the stretch for the Giants and like you always do wonder with two pitch guys like what's going to happen there and I think if you look at their bullpen Romano is really great although perhaps not an expert dog walker, we have learned perhaps bad at walking dogs, but apart from him like you have a bunch of solid but not spectacular guys in the bullpen so like you kind of maybe if you wanted to worry about something like if you're prone to anxiety that you could concentrate some energy there but yeah it is hard to pick one because they're just pretty good just pretty good ball club. And it gets play at home like actually at home in a real way in a way they have it in two years. So that's gotta be nice because who doesn't love sleeping in their own bed? I did to that point Meg right down vaccine mandate question mark as the biggest strength because who knows how many wins that'll save them. But they could win the division if they get an extra two wins out of that. Now that is definitely that was going to be one of my answers in the interesting storylines that will last as long as that mandate is in place. Now we're going to talk about the Yankees shortly and they no longer have to deal with the vaccine mandate in New York, which was lifted just because I guess famous people get their way sometimes and performers got exempted just because they lobbied city hall basically. So Yankees seemed not to be worried about that for good reason. But the Blue Jays, I know that they have claimed that maybe it's not just an advantage because it affected potentially how they made moves in the off season and who they could sign and who they could not sign, et cetera, and maybe some players would have been less willing to go there, which could always be true, but especially now even so, though, I mean, you would have to think that we'll be able to calculate this after the fact presumably. It's not really something you can project because we don't really know who's vaccinated or who's not or who will get the vaccine or whether the rule will change. But after the fact, if there is reporting about, oh, so and so to make the trip to Toronto and we all know why, and at the end of the season, you could probably calculate the impact of that and it seems like it could potentially be substantial, which in this division might actually make a difference. I guess. So I wonder, though, with Jordan Romano, you mentioned his dog walking. So he had a mild left ankle sprain. It was described at while he was walking his dog and he stepped in a hole in the road. So I guess it's not so much that it was a dog walking injury as it was just a hole in the road injury. He could have just been walking without the tug. Maybe he was more distracted because he had the dog. Initially, it seems like one of those weird baseball injuries like someone sneezed and hurt themselves or cut themselves on a can opener or whatever. It was definitely in that genre. But I guess if there's a hole in the road, that can happen with or without the dog. You've clearly never walked my dog who finds every hole in every road and sprints.

"Paid out for the overall top twenty two gets a spot there. I've actually fallen off in that. Beat comb whether we actually unfortunately remember. I was leading for the bulk of the year to be honest. And i've just been overtaken now. I've been shoved down to third now. Emily one point behind. So hopefully i can keep that cash spot there. I'm second. mit fbi. And i'm third in the finals of the razz slam with a great shot to still win that league though that that is a very tight race When the overall win the entire thing. And i'm i'm there with I have twenty two fifteen points. Two hundred fifteen points. The leader has twenty to thirty like. We're talking really tight. Twenty to twenty eight is in between nicholas maryono. And then joseph ashes leading some very much in that The more leaks. I let them live up to their name. I've been thoroughly beaten in those. But overall i'm very happy with how my seasons going obviously with a great shot at a main event championship. It's hard to have a bad year. If if that comes through you know yeah absolutely. I'm i'm stoked for you. I thank you lou. Prussia down the stretch in cash in that overall in the main event antique down there aslam. That'd be so sick that'd be a hell of a year and two more weeks of of going going him. I haven't even you know. I was talking about this extreme. It wouldn't change anything. I really don't think i would ease up in any way. But i haven't even done the math in my main event to see if like the seven point gap can can realistically be closed. Because i don't wanna take my foot off the gas at all and again. I don't think i would but i just don't want to be like. Oh well he can't really get the seven points. Let me just dial it down. No i'm staying full-bore. I did a really really good episode of benefits gas dave macdonald recently or we talked about kind of september strategies and one of the things we kind of came to an agreement on is no ten point lead is safe right now correct though like you know if you think you're coasting ago i've i've got a huge lead right now. Don't don't coast right now. Like just don't do it. Don't don't take your foot off and all on anything. Just hey on. I'm eight points out right now. there's no way can catch up. That's not necessarily true. Yup you know do the footwork and has sit down spreadsheet it out and figure out. Hey where can i king the on the spots but like very very few leads are completely safe right now. So and don't be afraid to make cuts that you wouldn't have two months ago because there'd be crazy but like where we normally see as being cut like legit prime closers because the team can't use them and they need that spot. I streamer because they're chasing ks. So they cut like jordan romano or something. Don't be afraid to be that person. It might change the dynamic see if somebody else picks up but you're focused on what you can do and so we're seeing a lot of Same goes with injury that you're waiting on. Probably stop waiting on most of them in. Cut those guys and pick up players. That can help you so you got to be a lot tighter on the reins of of who deserves a roster spot at this point because what you hold onto with guys that are hurt unless they're gonna do back like in the next few days like mcclanahan and joe ryan They're gone as far as i'm concerned. Any anyone who has the aisles is kinda boring. yup i. I totally agree for example. Hey suzanne yar brilliant brilliant season i kind of. He's gone and and the other leagues that i haven't this weekend. He'll be gone for sure. Because i think now even said that he's unlikely to return. But you gotta make quick moves there With guys are the. I'll do not give up the fight unless you're in one of my colleagues then you can just give it up because if you're planning sme- feel free to give up. That helps other competition. Yeah oh yeah. See if you can help me. Please don't give up if you can help me. But if you might take points away from me then just out and don't be a jerk about it. Exactly right justin. Well enjoy your weekend. You don't have to deal with the stress of your favorite football team because they put you through the ringer yesterday. Men without i've never watched a game. Were both teams lost. Yeah neither team had any interest in winning that game. you like. Washington didn't win that game. The giants didn't win that game like it shouldn't even be a tie. It should be lost for both adults. "They take three from the va's and that's where that's where they've made the turn now so you know if you're gonna ask me couple of weeks ago completely different situation to where we are now but the fact that stephen matt's was pitching as good as he has been the past month. I did give the jay's a glimmer of hope or a glimmer. Like i was a little bit optimistic for sure but then once you know it actually happened the app it sunk in to me that the potential to do it was there and then it really sunk in yesterday When in the ninth inning. Where i'm like. Oh my god. It's actually going to happen. Yeah i mean. No disrespect to stephen matt's when i say i expect erico on the yankees to win. That game is just on paper. You look at the matchup. Stephen mats or air coal. It's very lopsided. But even even knowing stephen matt's history over the past month month and a half but i'm one lash on our bullpen conversation with jordan romano Charlie montoya told wrong Rob longley of the toronto sun. That join ramona came to him and said quote. If it's a safe situation. I'm in so he wants to pitch back to back to back games. He wants to be involved if it's a close game and that's what you want from your players that's what you want from your bullpen. You want everyone involved in rooting for a win. And i think it was jose Who said this after yesterday's game but he said The thing about the blue jays is everyone's rooting for you. Everyone is rooting for each other. Everyone's rooting for the team to win. And everyone's involved every step of the way so that's part of what makes this team special. We've talked about it before but a lot of fun to watch. I think now if we were betting robbie ray has better odds to win the cy young in the american league than garrett cole and i think people have kind of taken a backseat on lance lynn. Well he's kind of taken a back seat in this race so it might be. Robbie raise race to lose now. He might be in the driver's seat for al. Cy young and i especially think so because even if this shouldn't impact the conversation we always know whether a team is a competitor or not makes an impact on these things right like everyone always talks about mike trout. "For the blue jays to not be in the driver's seat in the al wildcard sir. Half game back and by all accounts are in the driver's seat. The red sox have lost a lot of ground to the blue jays. Yankees of course just lost four games to the blue jays. The blue jays are in the driver's seat and right now there's no excuse for them not to take over that spot now. This is the optimistic part of us talking when we say the blue jays have no excuse to lose anymore but it's true every part of their game is clicking and like you mentioned bryson standout to me from this series we had seen the success of the starting rotation before but to me. It's the hitting in late and close situations and the bullpen. Because all of these games it seemed like with the exception of maybe one you are tied or at least one run up going into like the seventh inning. But in every one of these games bluejays tacked on the seventh eighth and ninth. We saw the blue score. Four runs in the seventh eighth and ninth last night. I think they scored three runs in the last three innings on tuesdays gamer or wednesdays games so you have all these opportunities at the blue jays are getting that we've seen them screw up before and finally there's cashing in those those runs. Of course they also missed some key opportunities you have that game where they got eleven walks and they only scored what five runs. So you have these games where they didn't take advantage of all those opportunities but then that's where the bullpen comes in. That's where the strong starting pitching comes in. You don't have to take advantage of those opportunities. Bullpen is throwing zeros and for almost the entirety of this series. the bullpen was throwing. They didn't give up a single earned run until the ninth inning of yesterday's game of this series. Finally that was appears and of course we saw him come in struggle. Gave back to back solo shots to gary sanchez. In luke voight but besides that it was a spotless day a spotless series for the bullpen. And that's what's impressing me. The most we've always talked about the potential of this team if the bullpen just comes along does its part and we saw that in this series. We saw that to some extent. Not totally issues jens oakland of of course you have that game with the blue jays almost give up what was a lead so it wasn't always there but in this series against the yankees it was and that's part of the success for the blue jays and why they could win these close game so i think that was so impressive and yeah. They're getting reinforcements. Julian meriwether we haven't seen in pitch yet. But he's up in the majors now napier's and of course. He came back in the oakland series and we saw him. Have you know struggles. In his first outing. He was successful in a second hunting struck at the side and then now struggles again his third time out but again. It's just having those options having those hard-throwing guys those guys who can put out fires before you get to jordan romano that's really important in the bullpen. And i wanna ask you about jordan motto. Because at no point this season have we seen him come in into three consecutive games. But it looked like last night. The blue jays were preparing to to do so if pearson and knock on there that ninth inning. Do you think he should be used more aggressively as we head down the stretch through september through a postseason race i should the blue jays tried to push him push limits get get him into three consecutive games or since what they've done for the rest of the season has worked and we've had injury scares with romano in the past. Should they.

"Who is on his way back and curly in aaa buffalo so things are looking somewhat up for the bullpen ross stripling. You can't rule out as well. Who's i think starting to throw again. He's gonna come back as a reliever. So you have a lot of options coming your way for that and in terms of lefties as well you have taylor saucedo. And you've had ten days of this year who've done a great job especially to meza so you know you're you're you're okay in terms of lefties but for rab hand just Obviously a forgettable tenure. And something that i think all of us are going to try. And forget and we'll see what need pearson and brad baker offer out of the bullpen. But i'm super excited to see them. Get into games. We saw what may pearson i what he's done in aaa this season over the last month. He's a really good numbers there. I think you only gave up two runs in his last six outings or something like that. It's been really strong. Pitching for him. Out of the bullpen is last aaa appearance. He struck out the side on thirteen pitches so he really hasn't had any struggles in aaa this year. So you're hoping for the best. When he comes up here you can do what we saw in. Twenty twenty in that postseason series against tampa bay. That he can just come in and mow down. Batters what you're hoping for and the blue jays outside of jordan romano. They don't really have that flame throat or the bullpen. You know they have those other arms like tim. Meza adam similar but those are very different types of arms than someone. Who's just gonna go out there. And you know shaq you with their fastball. And slider and that's when pearson is and that's what the blue jays the bullpen so super excited to see what he can do. They're also super except for brian baker baker. I like honestly when the blue bluejays said there were calling him up. I kind of went. Who like like. Who is this guy. I feel like no one's been talking about him but he has great numbers and aaa as well is an era around one point six. He's been there closer in buffalo and he's been fantastic song excited to see what he has to offer in the majors as well so both these guys should solidify the bullpen. A little bit and of course. Now we've expanded rosters so they got more options in the bullpen. So a couple of good things there that we're looking forward to but certainly the loss of brad hand like like you said raising even if he was mediocre he had a lot to offer to this team as someone who can come in in the middle innings and someone who can bridge that gap between the starter and adam. Cimber to meza jordan ramada. Those i what i would call the top three relievers in the bullpen. Maybe after a period of time pearson joins at party but right now. I think it's those three guys who really have those high leverage situations Locked down and i think there's the possibility that brad hand could bridge that gap was there but of course the trae didn't work out but like i said you win some you lose them eat. You got to take those risks sometimes as those risks. Don't pay off so we'll leave it there for this week. Thank you ever listened to this episode. And we're looking forward to this big series against oakland like as much as we talk about the blue still having a chance if the blue jays lose this series. I think two to three. They're done i. I know we've said that..

"Lefty coming out of the bullpen handed over to jordan. Romano in the ninth inning and usually good things happen when that happened so that that was probably the best game of the series by far and then the game yesterday they you know the up seven runs the first time in probably a while they put up over. You know what was it. Four or five runs in a game and You know they just It was just pretty much based off a start from hundred review who continues to struggle over the last I would say thirty days. I think he's got an ira over over four in that span so You know he still trying to things out. He's been up and down this month. He set some good starts. He's had some bad starts by it. Just feels like whenever he has bad starts now he. He's getting absolutely lit up. It's like he's throwing batting practice as well. He only lasted three and two thirds up. Seven eight seven earned runs. Four strikeouts in that span of three. And two and three and two thirds. Just wasn't it was an ugly one for him and the often showed up again with mark. Assuming and you guys mentioned it and then back from other backed by other people who are hitting urban hit the ball well yesterday so you take to a two from the white sox. I think it could have been you know. Obviously if you wanna talk about a playoff spot you needed a win that series. But i think all in all when you you conclude it i think Splitting it is definitely something that you'll take and then of course. You have a good series against the tigers this weekend for those who are still holding out hope for second wildcard spot just to put things in perspective You're talking about it. I think a couple of weeks ago. Where the james had a playoff percentage from fan graphs They had him at thirty five percent to make the playoffs. That is some that is now dipped to seven point nine percent to make the playoffs. So that's a pretty jurassic fall from there. And yes. I know there could be reinforcements like jordan. Sorry george springer on the way. Is it too late most likely. We've been talking about this for the last week as well but he seems to be like. He's inching closer to be to be playing possibly tonight in the opener in detroit. That's obviously gonna change the lineup for sure. You know someone like boba. Shed who's been struggling over the last thirty days likely going down in the order. I know i wanna ask you guys to. Do you think maybe moves lowered to than what we saw from him. Beforehand before george springer went down in seattle because a lot of people are talking about moving down to potentially you know fifth base off how he's been performing over the last thirty days he has an opiate. Five seventy two and an average of two twenty. He just seems to be swinging at almost everything. He doesn't look comfortable and i think we've been. We've mentioned his struggles as well as someone and of course we've mentioned vladimir guerrero junior struggles but i think boba shed his you know. In my opinion somebody who i've been certainly notice a lot more now in terms of someone who's been struggling for the last thirty days. So you know. George springer coming back is going to help.

"Is going to be and Yeah there really. Isn't anybody else i told you. There's about two guys. Not even maybe just jordan romano who you have complete complete utter confidence and in terms of closing out a game for this team so i mean that's the way it is. I'm just saying to what a story would be The can somehow get back into this. Of course it's still possible but basin we already. We went over this already. It doesn't look good but of course you can never rule anything out in a. It's funny too because you talk about a strength of schedule you talk about an easy schedule coming up. You talk about easy games and You know this is the trap series for the jason get swept by washington and now this weekend. I'm not sure how confident. I feel against a team. Like detroit either way. Because i know you're at home but look with jesus did in washington and it's kind of funny too because it it turns out the jays weren't the only ones Pretty much this week with a an easy match up to i guess blow at earned terms of disappointing at its finest so the padres of course they gets what by the rockies the reds also gets wet by the cubs or lose two straight and the phillies lost to the diamondbacks last night. There was a tweet of that that just came Came out but you know for a team like the jays who have all these opportunities ahead of them. We talked about at the beginning of the year. The schedules the hardest in baseball. Yes and all the sudden it turns into one of the easier ones down the road but it's easier said than done. These guys neither games. We swede literally went live about this yesterday before the game happened in washington where i said a sweep was the only outcome of this and it turns out completed a complete slap in the face back to me because it was a suite. We got you left. It was for the wrong team. And now when you look at it your four and a half games out. So that's why. I i'm not sure what else to think of. Of course you can't rule anything out. Of course people are going to watch and be excited. I mean you want to a reason to watch as well we'll get someone hernandez and who is completely Was the story of this road trip in terms of keeping this team somewhat afloat trying to keep or trying to do anything they can to kind of keep the steam alive and he goes to for forte homerun in double. I mean obviously marcus semi also homered. I mean those are guys that have tried to keep us alive. We we we know about the simeon. Had the go ahead home run today and the pitching couldn't back it up so i mean it's been the same story all year. We'll see what happens. I guess as we head into these next series is as we close out the month of august. September there's lots of baseball left but you're going to have to rely on a lot of teams to lose on top of expecting jails to win these games so that's where we're at right now..

"I will blame on both the offense on. I'm brad hand but of course the blame goes to everyone. I think jacob has a good point with all of that because he pretty much went over all or went over all of it and yeah other than that in things that you can't control like the video replay. I've seen angles where he's been safe by the looks of it. I've seen angles where he's also looked out mark. I know you think he was out jacob. I know you think he was safe. See i'm going back and forth. But i'm just torn between you know regardless if he was out of sight but either way again. That's something that you can't control and you can't always rely on video replay to help you in games and there's no excuse for what happened this weekend Coming off the angel series. I wasn't too disappointed as i think you guys were. But coming off of this series now when you look back at both of these series is it's it's a little bit you know. It's a little bit more. Frustrating defenders. The road trip three and four. You lose a couple games in the wild card standings and just you know a couple of bad losses this weekend in terms of just a bad collapse. We we're gonna talk about the springer one in a bit but the first of all for the friday one. Yeah i mean just a bunch of things going wrong and i've got Toy like you guys mentioned you know for me. Maybe i put a touch of the blame on him. Because in a situation like that i'd probably go to my closer Regardless of you know saving them for the save opportunity. I know that's been a time this year where we've actually talked about that a lot. There's been so many situations where that's happened. And of course now. The jays after that loss on friday are now eight and fourteen in games decided by one run. And that's not ideal whatsoever and of course you know in a situation like that you bring in brad hand comes in he he throws four straight balls to somebody who's sitting one ninety five like you mentioned and you know now. His also is walk. Rate and high leverage situations is rose to eight point one zero. So it's tough because either go to hand you have a couple other left the options in the bullpen. Because obviously that was the up that you wanted to go to you. Had i guess you taylor saucedo you had curbs need and then you had brad hand you know somebody who would have been great and ideal for a situation like that could have been as who's been one of their heavier liable relievers this year and of course he's a lefty and we all know he's injured but he's currently rehabbing aaa buffalo so you miss out on him and you don't really have anybody else to go to other than brad hand if you're going to go on that lefty lefty mattress. I'm not saying. I agree with it because i probably also would have put in jordan romano's so it just it was a soul-sucking weekend in terms of those two of those three games that just the way they lost. It really really hit hard in terms of that. And you know it's just a complete mess everywhere and of course if you want to talk about the offense as well the offense going or jacob mentioning to they go they leave. Nine people left on base. Leave nine on base and of course go one for seven with runners in scoring position so these first two games now. The offense was kind of dry. Pretty much you know just held out you know anything scoring a whole lot of runs. But of course in the sunday game they kinda showed up a little bit more but it's kind of strange how they did show up after they lose one of their best hitters..

"I mean you look at guys in their rotation in the ray. They've had in the second half since it started july. Even going back to the start of june. It's been horrible for them. So you hope the blue jays can take advantage of that you hope they can come out win two of three or excuse me two or four or three or four. Maybe or you know who knows maybe even asleep. But i'm not going to get my hopes up for that but that really changed my perspective. Because i really didn't realize how bad the red sox were doing and again you know last time the red sox the red sox were struggling as well and they came out and you know took both games. I think of that two-game set because one of them was rained out. If i remember correctly bet who knows we will see what happens. Another pitching conundrum for the blue jays is the bullpen. The bullpen has been really good lately. You know we can trash all want for the beginning of the season. But they've improved a lot with the arms they've got even though you do have two games in the series with the bullpen. Putting up some scary numbers. You know you got that brad. Hand blown save in not technically save blown opportunity in the tenth inning of game one you got that the six runs. The bullpen gives up in the second game or third game of this series despite that the bullpen has been pretty good But a lot of people have concerns about jordan romano and rightfully so. He hasn't been himself lately over his last few appearances. Last nine games eight point two innings pitched as an eight point three one era over his last nine games. That's eight earned runs over eight point..

"Other factors and v and k rate seawalls having a better year in fantasy if you had the roster one in a mixed league and right now you don't have to roster either in a mixed league seawall or grave. Who would you rather roster ago. I go see glossy grave men getting any presley is going to be in the closer Yeah and then. I mean he's he throws a slider every pitch and it's working. Somehow you'll get a few saves for seattle. So i think he's worth for austrian other situations. She'll just go briefly here. Kyle finnegan looks like washington closer. I would add him. i think he's going to get some saves. It doesn't work any competition there. I think it's all finnegan. It looks like brad. Hand as the setup man for jordan romano. I don't think that's a timeshare. i'm avoiding texas. Maybe it spencer patton matt. Whistler got to say for tampa. Yesterday until nick anderson comes back. I think andrew kit ridge it's more saves in whistler. I don't know of is coming back. They say is coming back soon. But he's not going to run into the role Moving along pittsburgh. By the way. Chris stratton was the guy was going to get that. Save the other night. Not david bednarz. So if you're all adding bed nor he might become the closer soon. But i'd be careful here. I think it might be strand in candy clearly in philadelphia and ranger swire's goes from the closer to starting rotation right away. They have no idea what they're doing and philadelphia. They just have no clue what they're doing with these players and then on the way out the door. Spencer howard is like yeah. They don't have any idea what they're doing. Kingery same thing they they just they don't know but you know i watched it's entertainment sometimes. It's entertainment. what any he you like him. I can't believe we're still talking about it. But he's still there closer for the reds and they're in the race there only three around the padres. I love listening to you interested in hearing. Henry's name come almost every every episode. Because he's not again pitcher but he's gonna sneeze. I guess that the nicest way to put. Guess a perfect way to put it. He's not exactly great. Neither is coastal or tyler clifford. But they're all closers now. I always as a fantasy player. You guys remember back in spring training. You guys harped on this that it was no way to predict what was gonna happen with closers this year. That's exactly the way it's played out. You know it. It's just so hard predict anymore. And i don't see teams what the advantages to know. Pull the guy after one blown say but that's kind of seems to be the way they're doing it these days Taking a look at the schedule here for the next couple of days you can see rangers suarez on your television or wherever you stream on. Espn against new national. Joe ziya gray. How about that match. That's interesting swire's isn't going five innings so don't don't use him here in this game against the nationals is going to be like on a fifty pitch count and then they'll bring in somebody to blow it velazquez but as i agree. It's going to be very interesting. I didn't think was going to put him right into the rotation. But i don't think they have enough pitchers So desire starts. Andrew heaney makes his debut for the yankees against baltimore. And that's not a good baltimore lineup. You andrew haney in yankee. Stadium is is supporting. Numbers are better than his erase. Yeah right is fifth. Is you know what. I think right around at least lower. You had at least a run run lower. He's not necessarily going to a better defensive team. So i don't know if it was bad luck or bad pitching you know his. Hi babette pitch. Better than a five to seventy. Ra as v is four point. Oh four tours shortstop you've got graver in a same rhythm tree very exciting and for next year as a or to about him this year. Yeah that's not going. well slugging. Three fifty luck tuesday slate all more phillies and national zack wheeler and patrick corbin. You don't want patrick corbin that's on. Espn plus so you can watch that. No day games on tuesday Garrett richards at detroit ordinarily i would say yes but the tigers hitting and get richards has been pretty bad since the Crackdown on illegal substances. Or whatever they were calling it. So i would not pick up garrett richards here Max chronic new. I'm going to say no to that sir Oh i want to ask you this. I've been wanting to ask you this for a little while. Your thoughts on blake's now. He's he's on. He's pitching at oakland on tuesday. So it's a good offensive team but it's not in san diego. His extreme home road splits and frankly every adding seems to me to be like four innings. He's really overrated fantasy. I think maybe the most overrated fantasy pitcher out there. What are your thoughts snow. Yeah i mean it's august second and he hasn't figured things out. So why would we expect him to to suddenly. Look like the blake. Snell two thousand eighteen wins so no i'm not eighteen starts. I'm not starting anymore at all now. The home numbers a lot. Better two point eight one year. Eight home with a major strike irate on the road to point to whip. You can't start them on the road and even at home. I'm like doesn't doesn't go deep in the games i don't i don't see the fascination anymore taiwan walker. That'll be interesting. He struggled of late. he's at miami. Maybe things will be well because it's miami but man he's looked bad over the past month Wednesday lots day ball so get your lineups in early. There is a night game. Drew smiley who you know against jay. Hap- cardinals are no longer hapless. Well he's not good but still and scherzer's debut against houston. "So he's had trouble against lefties and they coming into a division the He's gotta face yankees team that just added to very good lefty hitters. He's gotta face raised team. That does really good against right handed. Pitching he's gotta face a boston team. That just does good against pitching And so that's where it's it's problematic. I'm i like to move from a baseball perspective For a fan base. More than i like it from the fantasy perspective and i think that's the differentiator here Is at the end of the day. I still see toronto on the outside looking. In because of the games. They've left on the table due to the shortcomings of their roster construction At losing julian meriwether early like they did. He still weeks away from coming back if he becomes back at all. It's like the bullpen kind of fell apart from there And it just now. Getting the opportunity to rebuild itself. I guess the good news for berrios as he doesn't worry about facing the yankees until september they. Start a four-game set at yankee stadium Starting on labor day and then they played them again The final week of the season So that's what they have left against the against the yankees but we looking at schedule. I think barriers pitches today. Yes he's in the first inning right now when out casey and he's got boston than he's gonna have seattle that he's gonna have detroit. He's the white sox that he's going to have oakland that he's gonna have a yankee game He's got attempt bay game. Then he's got another tampa bay game then a yankee game so that's not a great strength of schedule the rest free yeah. I tend to agree with you there. Jason i i liked the move for toronto. They really needed to add to this. Rotation but Pigeon roger center in in that alias is not going to be great for brio a value. Moving definitely takes a little bit of hit. I don't think soria factors into the back end of this this the bullpen. I think it's going to be Brad hand and jordan romano getting save opportunities going to go back to being a setup guys of those you and holds leagues He could Go back to get some holds on on a much better team in toronto but other than that he's not gonna factor in Let's let's talk about the braves. 'cause they were really really interesting team at the deadline. They traded for adam. Duvall eddie rosario and hori solaire Plus traded for richard rodriguez a red at the end of the trade deadline. So jason. What are your thoughts on the braves. Pretty much acquiring an entire new outfield at the deadline. And then richard as well okay. It was such a weird thing..

"Down our power rankings. Here on the baseball podcast. Starting out with number fifteen and segment number three. We obviously went thirty three sixteen so here in the final segment. We'll talk about number fifteen through number one. Starting with number fifteen the seattle mariners. The mariners playing good baseball. Don't look now in seattle one of my surprise teams from before the season started seattle now over five hundred their ten in three and their last thirteen games and suddenly just five and a half games back in the wild card standings. I mean sweep and a four game set against the tampa bay rays last week nothing to sneeze at because the rays they're gonna show up a little bit later. During this conversation. They took two out of three from the white sox this past weekend. So two teams that we've yet to hear and it's going to be a little bit before we hear both of those teams in the rankings. Take in what six out of seven from those guys. That's a fantastic week. Here for the seattle mariners. The one two punch on the mound of uc could cheeky. He's got fourteen game. Started a three point three four. Era chris flex in thirteen starts at three eight seventy ra so those two guys certainly have been huge surprises for the mariners and man if they could get their top prospect going they sent him back down i just the mariners. They could hang around in the american league. Wests and pose a problem here. Moving forward but Shoutout to the mariners again playing fantastic baseball here over the past couple of weeks now on the other side of things you got the fourteenth team the new york yankees the yankees appeared to be getting back on track. They were seven and two over at nine game stretch until ultimately they were swept by the red sox at fenway park over the week yet so back to back sweeps by the red sox over the yankees and ultimately it's just tough to be a new york fan right that's type. A series can halt the momentum completely although dj lemay hugh is heating up. He was eleven for twenty six with two home runs at the plate over the past couple of weeks so lemay mayhew starting to get back into hitting sees him as a guy who's won the batting title in both leagues. You knew it was just a matter of time ultimately before he got going here once again and number thirteen. I have the cleveland indians. They are forty two and thirty three. This is a surprise. i did not see cleveland. Being this good in the american league central. I mean erin savelli. He was the latest. cleveland started. End up on the injured list after he suffered a sprained finger last week. And just listen to this rotation here now. Compared to years past in cleveland you got cow. Trill sam hent gifts. Eli morgan and j c mahia. I mean that puts a ton of pressure on those guys a ton of pressure on the offense that has underperformed for much of the year. They got a tough stretch of road. Coming up here in the near future with the and astros on the schedule but they've surprised me up until this point so if these kids can continue to thrive here in this rotation you get the offense to step up here a little bit. It's it's to be fun to watch to see if cleveland can hang around because right now in second place in the american league central. That's that's the spot you want to be and number twelve. The chicago cubs couple of games over five hundred now. Of course they had the combined no hitter over the past week davies crew through the no no here and they also had a nice start from kyle hendricks as he went six innings giving up four hits allowing no earned runs but the cubs overall. We're only two and four. last week. They dropped three or four to the dodgers to close out the week. After splitting a pair. Against cleveland and they got some inter divisional. Matchups coming up here. They'll face milwaukee cincinnati which will be a nice nice test for them to see if ultimately they can get back on the right track and continue to produce here so nineteen and eight in the month of may under just twelve and thirteen in june. With a minus fifteen run differential so the cubs got really hot there and may have kind of come back to earth here for the month of june and number eleven. The toronto blue jays. They're seven and one in their last eight games and that they're going to need to carry that momentum over because six of their next twelve or against the race the top team in the american league east right now but if they're gonna wanna make up some ground. Here's a key opportunity right. You can look at it a couple of different ways. It's either a tough match-up or a nice opportunity for that now. The blue jays have only gone nineteen and twenty five so far this year against teams with a winning record so they really have something left to to prove if they're going to put their name as a bona fide contender right or they a contender or pretender will coming up here against some of these teams with better records. They're going to have to chance to put their name into that. Contender profile jordan. Romano for them has been fantastic in the closer's role and he's a big reason why they've stayed at the top at number ten. You have the new york. Mets the leaders in the national league east. They split a pair of four game series with the braves in the philly's last week. So they they continue to make up for early season cancellations due to cova weather things like that. So a lot of seven inning doubleheaders for the mets but split in series. When you're five games up in the division you'll take that as the top team. I mean the phillies could've won all four of those games walking out of there with the split. If you're the mets you're certainly going to take it. They have another three game series coming up with the braves in atlanta and after that the schedule actually gets a little bit interesting because they won't play another divisional team for the better part of a month so pretty much for most of july. They're going to be outside of the division. So that's where these splits have been a big deal here over the past couple of weeks. Michael conforto did return from the injured list. He went two for four with a double wednesday after being sidelined. Thirty four games. So he's going to be a welcome back edition for the mets and number nine i have the milwaukee brewers that they had a bit of a hiccup a couple of weeks ago but once again they are rolling five and one this past week against the diamondbacks and rockies but again those are two of the the bottom teams in all of baseball so just basically taking care of business there. But that's what you gotta do against those teams right. You gotta beat who. You're supposed to kind of split with the top end teams and you'll find yourself right in that conversation at the end of the year. So the brewers continued to be led by that rotation at the top of the list. Those guys are filthy. The diamondbacks and rockies really didn't stand a chance and ultimately the brewers are still putting themselves right in the mix as i have them at number nine and number eight. The chicago white sox forty five and thirty two tops in the american league central over the past. Two weeks though. This offense has gone a bit colt. The white sox offense has scored three or fewer runs nine times in twelve games..

mariners cleveland seattle mariners yankees baseball chris flex american league central lemay hugh lemay mayhew seattle red sox erin savelli american league sam hent Eli morgan tampa bay rays kyle hendricks Wests white sox fenway park

"That can actually prove themselves and you have to. You have to go one or two mark. I completely agree with you. I think they should be going and getting something done within the next few days. Do i see it happening. I'm not as confident. Does but i think in terms of what they really need. It makes sense if that if that also makes sense to you guys i just. I don't see it happening. But i really wanted to happen. And i hope it's like a reverse thing i do on them. Air like a reversing senate happens up. There are so many situations or scenarios where you could go in terms of adding bullpen arms and from adding a starter. I really hope not. Maybe adding starter comes later on closer to july maybe mid july but right now in terms of what they need in the next few days or within the next few weeks is you gotta start with at least one reliever I think of going back to the rumors with barrios a few months ago. Minnesota i believe i read a few days ago. That they actually aren't offering him in extension or something like that. So he's on an expiring deal with the twins still struggling you know. Maybe he's expendable. Maybe inquire about him. Why why not why not. I mean why not so. That's where i look at it from. But yeah they need. They need a few pieces. They don't you just one and in terms of the offense to i don't even touch the offense because we know the ought the offense brings we know the strength they have jacob be mentioned how crowded it is. This is solely focused on pitching for me. No matter what it is. Yeah i i don't want the big changes to the offense. It's going to be hard enough to fit george springer in when he comes back so leave that alone focus a priority number. One is the bullpen priority number. Twos starting rotation. yeah. I think ross stripling is a guy who moves. He has to be the guy who comes out of the rotation. If you get someone maybe you go with the six man. rotation i don't know but moving stripling to the bullpen would be one of those moves that helps the bullpen indirectly. So i'm fine with that but you gotta get someone right now. They have no one who can put out the fire in the middle innings. Like you have jordan romano. Who's supposed to be that type of closer and you have no one else who can come in earlier. It was rafael delis. It was tyler chat. Would to some extent it has been anthony castro but right now they have no one who can come in and save the game from being blown out if they're in a jam in the seventh or eighth inning And they need that type of pitcher. I don't think it's going to be that expensive to do it. I really want them to get it done but like you said we haven't heard anything so i'm not confident it will happen but i just. I hope to god. It does because they need to do something about this. And i mean one of the things that i'm worried about is the standings really solidifying towards what is it north. Data's anymore. I think it's july or june june fifteenth. Yes oh almost at july and we're at the point where the standings they're going to start to solidify in the maybe you're not four games back. Maybe you're six or seven and that's that's extremely difficult to come back from and we saw in two thousand seventeen where the blue jays were. Only i think within that like they were maybe five six games out of wildcard spot but there were six or seven teams..

george springer rafael delis six five mid july one jacob seven two anthony castro july jordan romano seventh seven teams two thousand june june fifteenth ross six man eighth inning four games

"So they've been able to get a year or two out of guys before it just completely derails other than stroman either way back to the era just to wrap up your point brennan. I was trying to find out. Why in pearson's pitching next announced the bison guy moral. It's gotta be tomorrow or saturday or saturday. Actually be saturday. If he pitches sunday. Yeah so anyway. To that point putting up the blue jays had a rough weekend weekend last week in houston and luckily come this week guys. Apparently weekday blue jays played better than the weekend blue jays so not only did we sweep the atlanta braves. We completely took them to school in some really close games that we actually came back in every one of these games. For victories and just completely demoralized the atlanta braves to the point where they had to be thinking. Oh my god here. They come again each one of those times especially today. We'll get to that. But once again and ronald kunia junior is is a crazy baseball player. I honestly hope that the braves sake that the little thing that happened with him at the end of the game today he didn't watch the game ronald kunia. Junior was ryan to first base in the eighth ninth inning. I think it was cigarettes. I think it was the eighth. Yeah so he was running the first base instead of planting on the base while he was trying to run through it to be safe he kinda came up just a little bit short. So if this was the basis. Tokai atlantic here dragged it over and it didn't look very good all he collapsed like two three steps after hopping around after that. And i honestly like. I said i really hope for the best foreign but i really think that he's not going to be playing for a good amount of time from watching that injury. I'm hoping because he's gone inflexible. You know he's going be okay but outside around the kunia. The blue jays were able to keep the rest of the braves lineup. Who's very threatening and imposing lineup. Pretty much in check the whole weekend boys and let's talk you know was it. Tuesday was the first game right. Yep the blue jays come back to win five three in a game that ended up being funny enough a save the season for jordan romano. Trent thornton's first win of the season. And i forget who started l. Robbie ray stupid another impressive ten strikeout for saw..

"Pitch in under three ira and now he's regressing back to where he is in what he's done or when he started to do against houston last week. I'm fine with that if he does that again tomorrow. Because i think he's on track to start tomorrow so so on that note. I think that what we saw from from stephen matt's over the weekend on against the astros anyways that was a typical stephen matt. Start you hope over five or six innings and him well enough to keep you in the ball game and you just kind of hope the offense is gonna get you that four or five runs and in this case said they got five. It's and got eight runs. Perfect sold that it up so but that one thing i do want to point out too is we were just talking about the bullpen on this one to jordan. Romano adam injury. That game was the last rough outing we've seen since he's been dominant since that point. Yeah yet few hudson whatnot the other night and it just kind of like extended the outing. But i didn't. I didn't lose confidence during that. But we'll get that the minute so but i'll also in that game trial chat guys. Has he just been completely on cruise control. Or is it just me. He's been unreal eastman absolutely unreal. And you know i. I've really been talking up. David phelps this year. I i always mention tyler. Woods name whenever i bring phelps but i know he's been injured. The last few weeks by chat weather surpassed them like crazy. Just every single time chat would comes in. I'm not expected him to give up any runs. Heck. i'm not even expecting him to walk anybody anymore. Which is the craziest thing. He's attacking zone. They had mike petrello on from statcast. And then we'll be dot com yesterday on blue central and the cutter. That i tyler has throwing that so much more than he ever has in the past and it's working out it's been a killer pitch forum and ill at..

"I have zero reason to be optimistic for them. Coming to toronto in the same thing with the raptors gotta look at them. Because they're in. I think it's tampa bay right now or at least in the same arena that the tampa bay lightning play. And they're not it doesn't look like they're coming up to toronto so i don't think the blue jays will have the same They'll have the same things and they're not coming up to toronto over I'm just interesting i have. I have optimism because one. Yeah the vaccine distribution right now is poor jacob. How ever a lot can change in a couple of months. And they're saying by the summer it's get a lot better. Yeah there's still promising everyone to be vaccinated by so they haven't they. Haven't you know there's still a chance for that. And this is what. I think they go back and this it's different from the raptors because while the raptors are playing right now and it's different and they're going to and obviously around the summer it's going to be a little bit delayed as it usually ends. Because of how late they started. How cool would it be for candidate. They go back. That's my prediction and if it's not candidate. They're back august or september. There's ten games right. There are eleven games. Especially if you go on to around august. But i think a perfect situation is candidate. I just have optimism that they're going to be back there at some point this year. Game seven the world roger center. I would buy tickets for that even if it was like five grand a one hundred percent. Yeah i agree with jacob. Because i think the inertia is that once a season starts are not gonna wanna move. I don't see them starting in dunedin and then all of a sudden you know saying it would be amazing if kennedy we can. They're like okay. Yeah we're gonna move up to the rodgers enter and celebrate it this way. It would be incredible. But i just don't see the thing happening that way i just. I just think the inertia will be so much that they just won't move this season. And you know maybe we see it happen. But i really don't think it's gonna happen. I'm agreeing with jacob putting the under and zero games At the rogers centre okay. The next question is which blue jays or any blue jays. I guess we'll make the all star team. I three names on this was a little bit of bishops but i think the most obvious choices boba shit. I think that's no brainer. Another name had market simeon. Maybe a little bit of more of a question mark. I think he i'm confident. And i'm trusting that he will be close to what he was in two thousand nineteen. I don't think he'll be as good. But i think you'll be close to what he was maybe six war player And and i think that's obviously good enough the all star game and then the third name. Perhaps this is a little bit of a surprise. But jordan. Romano i think is going to make the all star team. I'm beyond his. I did not even think of romano. But i don't know how i didn't because he was fantastic last year and he has done nothing to prove me. proved to me that he's going to do otherwise. But i'm a i'm going to agree with you. Boba sheds making the all star team. Mlb loves to loves to post about him on social media. They clearly love him and he's a good player..

"Rafael deletes also setting up. I think romano might take that role exclusively or even depending how you perform. He might become the closer. I think he has a potential to do that. I think he is very very good and has a potential. Like i said to be the best reliever in the bullpen. But it just depends. I think that's how it starts egypt colt you mentioned him. I think he also makes it. Ryan brookies another name. You said i think he also makes it again. Tyler chat would another guy who makes the bullpen as a long reliever some couple of names that i also agree with you not making the bullpen. Anthony k i don't think we'll make the bullpen. But i do think thomas hatch will start the season in the bullpen. I think the blue jays really like him. He's really really good. That we saw that in two thousand twenty and they like using him as an opener. It worked out. We saw you know the first series of the season. He opened against tampa bay. He was fantastic. So just the blue jays. Slotting him in in the same role. You know maybe two winnings maybe wanting doesn't really matter but i see him in that position staying in the bullpen. Another name that neither of you mentioned but hsun yamaguchi. I see you shaking your head both of you. But he's a name okay. I gotta be honest. I thought he would make the roster until pricing. You mentioned julian where mary weather. Who apparently i completely forgot about. So i think. I think there's a good chance. Meriwether comes into the bullpen instead of scheunemann gucci but i think in added complicating factor in this is at union. Gucci has a clause in his contract that he has to stay in the majors. So it's either the blue jays release him or keep him in the major so again. They're not going to be eating much money. I think it's three million dollars or four million dollars on that. He's on contract for next year if they do release him But i think the if mary weather isn't fantastic and spring training and if guccione can find his footing a little bit We know he struggled with velocity and with some of his off speed pitches in two thousand. Twenty i i don't think it takes us much for yamaguchi to make the roster instead of mary weather. But that's what i've ross stripling tyler tat would is a long guys along with gucci. Then ryan thomas hatch. Aj coal kind of the one inning guys. And then in the setup jordan romano rafael delays. In closer kirby. I do think the blue jays will have a big bullpen. I think i've nine guys in there. Which is of course very large but i think they would prefer that especially knowing the way they used their bullpen in twenty twenty and kind of exhausted it. I think they prefer big bullpen to a deeper bench or a deeper outfielder with with a fourth outfielder v. O fielder As we've talked about. I think they will prioritize. Having a lot of relievers on the roster. I think the bullpen is probably where the blue jays need the most options. And like you said with the with the shortened bench We know pretty much. Who's gonna play where in terms of the the field and for the most part everybody set but with the bullpen and especially starting rotation. There's just so many questions where you almost need those options in case something happens and i'll be honest. I think whoever you guys are probably more accurate. I i don't know my my predictions are a little bit out there..

next year two thousand Tyler thomas nine guys Rafael three million dollars first series four million dollars julian both two winnings Gucci fourth outfielder hsun yamaguchi Ryan brookies Anthony k ryan thomas jays Twenty
