Talking about not just the plot of the movie, but also the music, the symbolism, the art, and the overall design of the movie. Let's start the show. All right, so tell us who you are and what you do. Chris Rudd, founder and CEO of shy by design. And my world is to give leadership to the organization as we practice our antiracist design and systems and social service work around the country. House 2022 been going so far. It's been good. It's been busy, I think, because our work is again centered on anti racism and designing antiracist outcomes. After the racial awakening of 2020, lots of organizations and institutions are trying to figure out a, how are they perpetuating systemic racism and then B figuring out pathways to stop and from our perspective, hopefully, to heal the communities and folks that they've harmed over the past. So yeah, it's been a lot. Great work, but also heavy work. Yeah, I can imagine. So I would guess you probably got like an influx of work during that summer of 2020. I think there's a lot of people I spoke to on the show where during that summer are like right after that summer, they just kept getting hit up with requests to speak or to consult or to work or anything like that. Did you kind of have that same swell of interest during that time? Yeah, a lot of speaking, I think during that time, particularly people were really trying to wrap their heads around what it was. And so there was a lot of, can we just talk to you? We want to hear what you're thinking about this. Then the work started to pick up, but we actually developed a rubric for our firm on what we would do and what we wouldn't do. So we really started to vet the organizations that wanted to work with us to see if they were actually about the change that they say they were or if it was just we want to put a black face to the work to somehow validate the efforts, even if they knew it was going to fall short. And even if they didn't know, we would work with them to say, hey, here's where we see your shortcomings. And if they were willing to understand and accept that, then we could move forward. If they weren't, then we were happy to walk away. That's good. 'cause I can imagine people probably came all out of the woodwork that found your firm and was like, wait a minute, that's a black guy. Let's talk to them. Let's see if we can help it. Yeah. And then really, you know, they thought they knew. That was a lot of them. All we gotta do is just, it would come out in this way. All we have to do is just make this one simple change. And boom, racism is gone or, you know, we will function differently. And the hard part for us is helping them understand that changing an organization changing a system, an institution is a huge shift or requires large scale shifts from top to bottom, not just in terms of personnel, but also in terms of philosophy, practices, policy, right? All these organizational structure. And so that was a hard thing for folks to deal with, right? It's been doing this thing for so long and from your perspective, you've been doing a great job, right? Profit margins may be through the roof or you've put out a couple of surveys of rate us and for the most part you send them to people that like you and you're like, yep, that was a great and then the negative ones that come back. You're like, oh, they don't really get it. And so, yeah, it's been interesting journey. Well, let's kind of dive in more and talk about your firm's shy by design. What you describe as a collaborative and cultivating space for designers of color, like that already just that hit me like a ton of bricks there. Tell me more

"Through in depth interviews you'll learn about their work, their goals and what inspires them as creative individuals. Here's your host, Maurice cherry. Hello everybody and welcome to revision path. Thank you so much for tuning in. I'm your host Maurice cherry. Now several of you have written me, I guess, over the past couple of weeks now, asking whether or not we were going to do another Black Panther themed episode. If you remember back in 2018, we did a bonus episode around the design of Black Panther. I think we did it roughly about a week or so after the movie had come out. But that was an episode with myself. Our regime Gilbert, Paul Anthony Webb and Jordan green had a really great conversation about the movie about the design, the music, et cetera. It's one of our best episodes, actually it's one of the episodes that's in the Smithsonian for the national museum of African American history and culture. And so with Black Panther Wakanda forever out, I've already seen it twice now. We are going to release a bonus episode about the design of Black Panther Wakanda forever. We actually just recorded it over the weekend, so I've got to finish doing some production magic on it, but check out our feet later on this week for when the bonus episode dropped. It should be about Thursday or Friday, I think. I think we're gonna drop it like Friday morning, but check out the feed for that, I think you're really gonna enjoy it. Now, of course, if you've heard me talk the last couple of months you've heard me talk about the tenth collective, which is this new talent collective initiative from revision path and from state of black design. And now that we've got the revision path job board as a part of it, it's actually even better for both job seekers as well as companies. So if you're a job seeker and you're looking for work, of course you have the job board there, and you can join the tenth collector for free to be a part of our talent collective that has companies that are looking to hire black designers. And if you're a company that's looking to hire black designers, you can join the collective for a low monthly fee and you get access to all of these great profiles of people that are in the collective and then you can reach out to them to help out with your recruiting efforts. Super, super simple, super, super easy. If you're a black designer and you're looking for work and maybe you've been affected by one of these mass tech layoffs that have happened over the past few months or weeks, you want to be a part of this. It's free to join all you have to do is fill out a really short profile and you're all set. And you'll only get contacted by companies when they are ready to talk to you so it's not some sort of thing where you're going to get spam from myself or from state of black design. They're only going to reach out to you when they want to talk to you. So it's sort of a good resource to just have in your back pocket as you're looking for your next opportunity. So if you want to be a part of this, head over to the tenth collective dot com to join as a link where you can do that. We've also put a link in the show notes. Check it out. We'd love to have you. Now for this week's interview, I'm talking with Tiffany Stewart, a senior UX designer in Chicago, Illinois, who focuses on design systems and accessibility. Let's start the show. All right, so tell us who you are and what you do. Hi, my name is Tiffany Stewart. I'm a senior UX designer, specializing in digital systems with a focus on accessibility. And yeah, that's me very much blurred and just really passionate about accessibility and UX. How so you've been going for you so far? How's 2022? Oh my gosh, 2022 has been a blast and then some. I bought a house. Oh, nice. Right, I am officially now a homeowner, and I am in the process of building out my office. So I went and bought the Ikea cabinet and I attached them to the wall and I'm painting and I'm sanding and breaking out the miter saw. So. Wow. That is my life at the moment. Yeah, I am. That's a huge accomplishment. Congratulations. Thank you. It was a lot. The process was a lot because I think it was right before the interest rates went up. So it was just like, oh my gosh, I have to hustle and get this house for everything just goes to pot. So. Well, I mean, that's such a big accomplishment already for the year. Is there anything else that you still want to try to accomplish before 2023? I have so many, but I think for like the immediate goal for me is to see this Black Panther movie that's coming out. The black Panthers. And then on my professional work and getting my design system up and running to a point where it's doing what it needs to do and folks are able to use it in meaningful way. So yeah, those are my big ones for the end of the year. Okay. Let's tap into a little bit about the work that you do. You mentioned you're a senior UX designer and you're working at Thompson Reuters. Talk to me about that. I think the initially hired me as a contractor to work on one of their products as a regular UX product designer, and then once they heard about my previous work on a design system prior, they were like, oh, we'll just move you over to the design system side. So we can get that sort of up and running, and you can help with the facilitate that process. And I was like, okay, cool. And so I shifted into that particular space design system tends to be more because I think not many people know what design system designers do. It's more of a space where you're looking at applying concepts across the board holistically for several products and several teams in spaces. So my day to today is really thinking about, okay, how do I apply the concept of warning across a design system so that all of the products are consistently representing warning in a way that's meaningful and consistent. So my day to today is that making decisions about what our colors are going to be and how they're going to be expressed and just setting all of that up so that the designers can build their products relatively quickly because all of these decisions are already sort of made for them so they can already just bring those into play and then working closely with the accessibility team, which I'm very excited. The first time I've actually ever had one, usually it's just me doing it by myself, but we do have a dedicated accessibility team at TR, and they're amazing to work with. And we just make sure that the DS is accessible as possible that our products are accessible as possible. So that's my day to day. Tell me more about that accessibility. I'm curious what does that look like at a news organization like Thompson

"One last story I already heard story for the hour Or maybe four if I don't in any case the University of Chicago project on security and threats It's called sea pose which is the acronym for that It was quoted by Barton gellman in his Atlantic peace where he was talking about the actual danger of fascist of a fascist takeover in the United States following the 2024 election How Republicans are preparing for this Father rather alarming But then he gets into why is it that these trumpy true believers are trumpy true believers What is it that is motivating them They looked at every county in the United States and every person who is arrested and spend like over 800 of them now And try to figure out what's the correlation What is it that is causing these people to come from wherever they come from the Washington D.C. to try to overthrow the government of the United States Was it politics Was it that the Democrats had just taken over or were in danger of taking over Was it that the Republicans had just won an election And demographics was it that people were poor in these counties Was it that the counties had experienced a sudden loss of revenue or income Was it that these counties had that wealthy people in them And we're seeing an explosion in wealth and it was upsetting people You know what What was it They looked at hundreds of different variable dozens anyway different variables and different possible scenarios and only one stark And this is from a just an absolutely brilliant post over at raw story by Jordan green is a staff reporter is titled why they fight It's not just about Trump the insurrections believe their version of America is vanishing And I'll just share this two paragraphs with you It kind of summarizes the whole thing University of Chicago project on security and threats are sea post As reported by Martin gellman and the Atlantic quote other things being equal insurgents were much more likely to come from a county where the white share of the population was in decline For every one point drop in a county's percentage of whites from 2015 to 2019 the likelihood of an insurgent hailing from that county increased by 25% This was a strong link and it held up in every state They found that for example 9% of these people believe Trump is not 9% of Americans Believe that the use of force was justified to restore Trump to The White House that a fourth of young adults agreed in art city of adults agreed a very degrees that the quote the 2020 election was stolen and Joe Biden is an illegitimate president The Surrey found that 8% of Americans equivalent to 21 21 million Americans hold both of these radical beliefs 63% of the adamant re insurrectionists believe in a great replacement theory that doctor Carlson is out there peddling the Jews are helping subsidize the replacement of white workers with black workers And they answered this question as a yes quote African American people were Hispanic people in our country will eventually have more rights than whites So it turns out it's all about race We want to look at what was animating the people who attacked the capitol And now you know why all these black officers capitol police are telling these stories about being called the N word and being attacked on the basis of race repeatedly in on January 6th Surprise surprise Okay let's pick up your phone calls here Elliot and Albuquerque New Mexico hill What's on your mind today Welcome With our 24 hour news cycle if we don't have a way to change it it's compressing the amount of time that I don't know Fascism can take hold you know I mean if you look at Germany and how long it took their versus how quickly we're changing a new cycle and how quick they're getting a message out and how uncritically our news is covering this it's just it's erased Let me make the opposite case Elliot I mean you may well be right but the opposite case is in the 1930s the media in Germany by and larger throughout the late 20s in particular After Hitler got out of prison and as he was building his movement the German press thought he was a crank You know he was a failed painter who couldn't paint pictures of people he was incompetent And you know he was just a right wing crank and they largely ignored him And that gave him the space to kind of underground work the crowd as it were and build his movement And the media in Germany then within a year of his becoming Chancellor was seized was killed On the other end of the 24 hour news cycle you've got multiple opportunities to expose what's going on We're talking about Mark Bellas We're talking about Jeffrey Clark We're talking about what happened in the capitol insurrections In ways that it wasn't being discussed in 1932 33 in Germany Completely agree with you but are we talking about it enough Or you know the new cycle moves so quickly that we brush it aside and move to the next story Never Yes and no I mean this is my great Yeah and my biggest criticism of our electronic media particularly television network television Is that they pick three to 5 stories a day and just hammer those stories And that this came out of the writers strike in the late 90s as I recall when the Hollywood writers went on strike and the television production houses had to fill TV time And so they literally invented that a whole cloth reality TV And some of that reality TV Well that went back seat into the news media in the early 2000s And private that if you watch a newscast back in the 90s or the 80s or the 70s and the 60s you know the ones that I can remember it was a reporter reporting to you maybe 20 stories in the 30 minute newscast since 15 and anyways stories You know here's Walter Cronkite he's just going story after story after story after story after story Now what you getting a full one hour news show is basically 5 stories where the host comes on sets it up and then brings in for the next 15 minutes a two or three guests who opine about it typically ex Republicans and putting a little spin on the news and it's like the reality TV version of news And that I think is doing us a huge disservice because we are I agree We are far less well informed than we should be So anyway I got to move a lot of Elliot Thank you for the call So it's a very thought provoking question you're asking Morrison Long Beach California Morris what's on your mind today Happy days are here.

"Which means we'll need to be on our best behavior to get through the night. We'll need to be nice. Even if it pains us because you know there will be a lot of opinions being shared at the table. So we have the cut are here with a little motivation for you. It's an episode from earlier this year that asks the question why be nice? So grab a drink of water, do some breathing exercises and have a listen. Here's Avery truffle man. The cut, the cut. The cut. Cut. The cut. The cut. I had this one fleeting moment when I realized I might be too Californian for New York. I was in the elevator of a midtown skyscraper and someone else stepped in the elevator after me. And I just knee jerk impulsively asked. What floor you go into? To which this New Yorker gave me a sideways glance, reached past me like I wasn't there and pressed the button yourself. I lived in California for the last 7 years, and now, as the prodigal son returning back home to New York, I am shocked to realize that I've become so nice. And I used to be so annoyed by people like me. People who make conversations on airplanes, people who always want to lead with the good news and chime in with the positive reinforcement. And my God, now I've become one. I can not count how many times my New York colleagues have told me to please stop profusely thanking everyone and stop apologizing to everyone. And I just can't seem to revert back to my old gruff New York self that I once was. And that's when this tweet hit the nail right on the head. West coasters are nice but not kind. And east coasters are kind but not nice. That tweet from the handle Giordano has been retweeted over 30,000 times. Yeah, my name's Jordan, green. I wrote a tweet on my coffee break that went super viral. Jordan is a UX designer based in Seattle. Culturally, on the West Coast, niceness is priced more than kindness. So how you appear saving faith, essentially. Whereas on the east coast, there's the heart of gold, trope, where their person is like really mean and gruff. They're just a rough, hard drive in son of a gun, but she gave that man a dollar when he really needed it. So for a super low stakes example, if you see someone who stubbed their toe, the nice but not kind response is. Oh, I see you stopped your toe. I can imagine that really hurts. The kind but not nice response is. You're an idiot for like walking around without your shoes on. Here are your shoes. And here is an ice pack. It's about the delivery. That's what niceness is. Kindness is actually addressing the need. As Jordan tweeted, West Coast liberals slash radicals are really good at sounding nice. But I've seen a lot of organizers and activists from other places get frustrated because nothing happens. After a lot of talk. They'll use all of the proper terminology, all of the proper language, and then at the end of the day, they won't help. They believe that and that's kind of like why I made the tweet because I used to believe that just saying nice things helped. And that does help, but it doesn't help enough. Like, niceness is super important because manners are social lubricants. My grandmother is from the south. She is a black woman from the south. She taught me always to say please, and thank you. Anyone that's a person a darker skinned person of color in a particular context, they need to be nice. And it does come from a place of safety. It comes from a place of trying to navigate a world and that's actively trying to kill you. And once you have compassion for yourself, the kindest thing I guess you could give to yourself is the permission to just not be nice. You don't have to be nice. There's so much baggage around niceness. Like you don't have to be nice, and yet you do have to be nice. It's cultural, it's political, it's gendered, it's racialized. Like, do I have to be nice to a cat color telling me to smile? No, but it also might be unsafe not to. No matter who you are, someone is trying to tell you to be nicer or be less nice. Like I was definitely told not to be nice when lean in came out and girlbosses were having a moment. As though, being nice, is at odds with being honest or productive or authentic or efficient. Or kind. And so I wanted to talk with someone who has taken niceness all the way to success. Someone spectacularly. Unabashedly. Nice. I mean, I think there's a part of me that just like authentically nice and does like to like, I do annoyingly wake up very early and like a particularly good mood. I don't know what that's about. That's Jonathan van Ness. Hairdresser, yoga instructor, star of queer eye on Netflix and host of the podcast getting curious. We all love Jonathan. Okay, a huge part of your brand to me is that you are very nice and how do you feel about that word when I use it to describe you? I mean, nice is great. I do feel like I am nice. I feel like maybe the only thing that's more of a bummer about it is if you're not feeling really nice, when you meet somebody and you disappoint them because like your cat sick or you're late or you're like a nightmare or whatever. And you know, I am literally that nice. I feel like 80 to 85% of the time. I mean no one, not even Jonathan van mask can be nice a 100% of the time. Not in this Internet. The hardest thing for me has been like just seeing really dehumanizing like cruel stuff written about me like on Twitter or like really cool articles, that stuff like hertz. I feel like the Internet has gotten meaner. You feel like the world has gotten meaner?.

Most were all over the place where a completely virtual company one of the reasons. We've always seen that as a benefit is that you know what's important. Beltway is not important to the guy. I have in montana. In the guy. I have in montana's bringing this perspective to our organization and to the news. That's lacking everywhere. I always laugh because i'm from california. New york had an earthquake. And i was like. It's a three point two earthquake. I still my coffee with three point two but for days it was the earth. Way are the hold on for jordan. "Tuesday you better you bet that cosco's and can barclay lots to do in this hour and a lot to do over. The course of the rest of the show is still have four. Awesome guests to get to. Can't wait to talk to matt. More of the action network on the mount rushmore. You'd better you that guests. Nba season literally less than a month. Away it's newsy right now. With ben simmons stuff going on in philadelphia. We'll talk about that and more with matt from the extra network in about twenty minute trista creek at mgm tonight. Coming up in forty minutes. Joey finish pro sports better the insane baby. Joey finish next hour. James mazzola for profit podcast on the ryder cup next hour. Power our final hour games. Kendall ready bed for week number three in the nfl and day two of locked mess with some college football bets for the coming weekend so so much. Good stuff on the dock of here where to get nikki football in the second you like the bodyguard part the best from from jesus lab i i like the clyde ever 'til air stuff the best why i think it's sort of like arthur smith art in the eye of the beholder. Subjective the the idea of like the singing is like the best sharable like individual moment like. That's the that's like the the best individual moment personal protector. Nick scott an adult protective body. Perfect by the like. Just chef's kiss. I'm just infant great execution but the idea like the idea behind the layer is was kind of funnier overall. So it's kind of like which you know is is the smart one is like the smart part or is it the like over the top audacious part which was to sing. I guess so it's like you can pick your poison like what are you into basically like what do you think is funny dealers like very simple to just play on his name incredibly funny. I didn't think of it hadn't time obviously so it was had to be creative enough and i just really really good. I really you were you. I enjoyed that very thoroughly. That was not an oversell by you. Start the show awesome. Glad to hear that was fun. He's a slapped by. Might be my favorite thing to do each and every week here on the show down. I know i'm glad we have that name. Just to be honest it is. It is awesome named a great job by you coming up with it. I just sit down. And i look at the scores on tuesday morning from the games and i say okay which games that i lose bets. And whose fault was that. That i lost the bet. And it's just as easy as that and then for the best the best. The pinnacle of game went really the. I really enjoyed doing the. He's a slap. We'll get to nikki. Football in a second. But i don't know i figure i want to say this at some point this weekend. You know maybe requirement here because rick actually has this. What i'm about to say. Can you do not think. I'm gonna shave my beard. Okay you there were the myriad possibilities there for what we're the segment was gonna go. It's like okay like what's happened to the show like what you going somewhere like. What's going rig knows this. Ken but you have no idea i. I've i've had it now. I shaved before halloween last year. For like a hotline remember. Sumo i remember. And and i i have not and i think that's the shaved right when quarantine started in two thousand twenty so i basically had a full on beard for really the last two years straight like give or take like two weeks while it's thrown back the two times i've shaved it. I think i'm tired of it man. They're going to shave it. And i just don't like how am i going to. I'm probably going to regret it immediately. But i think i'm gonna do it. I think i'm gonna do it when the previous two times. So pre quarantine you obviously had pandemic was going on your. Your mental is obviously different. All of our mental were different at that time. Just like it wouldn't. It may not have even bother you that much you just you know doing something different and then the other part was for cost for costume. You're playing austin powers. That's right into chance for the so. This is really the first time you've considered like an organic normal beard shave like times. It was pandemic and halloween. Those are the two cancel years. You want to shave your in two years. I feel like the likelihood of regret is higher on this one. Because it's just like it's like why did you do it. no reason i just. I'm just tired of it like a new look. I liked change stuff up all the time here. Rick when do you think will i regret it. Do you think. I don't think i will actually. Well i find it interesting that you're going against the public here because most of the public shaves for the summer and let's go back in for the winter where you're growing opposite of that so i commend you for that. But you know you don't need the beard as much as someone like i like me. I need the beard to prove that. I have a chin. I need the beard to prove that. I have might have a jaw line somewhere in here. You have those things that are going to show regardless so you don't need it but it's an interesting time to wanna shave it. That the the guy that used to do this guy named tim who's extremely talented used to make make up for like celebrities. What's funny like he did it for me at sports illustrated when i worked for sports illustrated used to say that for men. A beard is like make up for your neck great line. That always stuck time. It's like let's get all the imperfections going out there. Let's get all those. Let's get all those on the surface. It'd be like all right. Just had this massive hair. This right here ken. Ken why so can. Can you not grow a beard or do you. Just choose not doesn't it doesn't look good so it's it gets it gets splotch e like around the cheeks. I can't get like the full so it comes in full like ninety percent but ninety percents not. That's not gonna do. It has to be one hundred percent obviously to be like palatable so yeah it's got a team america beard value to it. Yeah it's just it's not. It's not something anyone needs in their life. How long would it take you to grow it. Like is that like two weeks month like how long probably two weeks. I think you should do it. Just for bleeps and giggles. What's what's worse comes to worse. You've got kids you're married like it's i'm not worried about that at all shape way past that you can own yours and i'll shave mine. How about that the little freaky friday role reversal. Here what are we starting. This emma's i am going to yesterday. Yeah i am going to get my weekly haircut on friday. And i'm going to ask my guy ritchie. I'm not going full clean shave. I'm gonna bus down to like it's like stubble. Basically okay this is going to be so weird and yes. We're gonna get my haircut every single friday and it's funny because jordan green from wow when jordan green from odyssey. Who's like awesome. I think he does like ken. Stuff does mind like he handles all the radio interviews. I do and like before. The season is like so what about friday at noon. I'm like can't do it. What about friday at twelve forty five note is why i have an appointment. Guess what it is. It's my weekly haircut. That's why i can't change so we weekly haircut. What do you think. I come and looking like so fresh every friday. I do it myself so friday. so am i. Shaving friday and then. That's like day one or am i already just not shaving anymore. I think you shave for the last time on friday and then you grow it for at least two weeks and we are usually shave every other day on the show tomorrow and i'll street friday and that'll be the last day i like. My wife won't care by like she's i because all during the summer sometimes for like a week or two grow out not to a beard level butter but literally like i. Yeah i've been on this like i have no. I have no qualms whatsoever. And i have no idea how it's gonna go. It's been a long time. Our technical director is the outstanding bill. Matt's bill is working on some kind of like weird like i dunno conduct. Predatory ish mustache like chris. Max thousand people to the gulf over again like chris hansen would probably see bill and be like. Why don't you take a a seat over here. Bill but bills hair is bill. Your ariza long man. Like how long is.

"Writing i've ever seen in my entire life and yeah it stood and it had starting since it's a terrible one example and should never be even mentioned because it such nonsense garbage. Now the thing is when batmans taking the ring off of green lanterns finger. They are allies. They are friends. He might not trust batman hundred percent. But he's not an active combat situation with him. In fact in the middle of an active combat situation. Ironman is not going to have the dexterity with his gloved hand or even get close it up without getting walloped to have a chance to take off the ring and the idea of hacky laptop is quite frankly absurd. That's nonsense crossover garbo point oh jesse james. A character i've never heard of did it. With a laptop. This reeks of jeff goldblum. Taking out an entire alien race from independence day. Using an apple wireless. And it's a little silly a couple last things i wanna talk about. Here's how the battles really gonna go. These characters are going to start. Fighting both are strong. Both are fast green lanterns faster. Green leonard stronger green lanterns. Much more durable again taking the punches from superman but green lantern can create things and iron man cannot green lantern could use his power to create an entire green lantern corps as he has done before. So tony stark's not just fighting one green lantern. He's fighting all of the green lantern simultaneously of that power. That's too much of the last thing that green lantern can do that. I didn't mention till now. Oops is the fact that he could create pocket dimensions and wormholes. he uses them to traverse green lanterns. Use them to traverse the galaxy in a much quicker fashion. So they don't have to just go from point. A to point. B he could create a wormhole right by tony stark. Look in the direction that he's flying and he can warp toady stark to the other end of the galaxy that will be battlefield removal. Tony stark will not be able to get back in time and green lantern will win by removal if it comes down to it and any of these other wacky scenarios start to happen boom wormhole removed tony stark game over. But i don't even think it's gonna come to that so i got to say about that. Roger craig smith you've heard any points from rave you heard three points from me. Yeah now is the time for you to take on a journey. Take us through your process and tell us who wins this fight between how jordan green lantern and iron men. I am overwhelmed right now. I'll be honest. And i'm gonna make a suggestion to you guys because at some point i mean the whole judge thing but what about a referee. I mean at some point i. I'm looking at ray holding up a timer. And i'm sitting here going. I don't i mean should i be deducting for things like yeah i mean this is. This is a qualification. Here ray sneaks in a fourth point after the third point. So i got my third point. Stag no believe me. I'm seeing the wicked tactics. That are at work here. And it's impressive and how you guys retain a friendship through this. I mean maybe. I'm speculating that you guys are friends. Maybe that's a bit you know. Maybe that's a bit much but this is a this battle. I think between the two of you guys would be far more and is far more entertaining than you know. Ironman versus green lantern. That being said you have both taken me on a on an extreme emotional roller coaster of herreid here honestly in the beginning. Ray your point about you know. The ironman wouldn't see green lantern coming. Just i liked what you were doing to reinforce that argument for. First of all i found it speculative on the automatic defenses kind of a thing being a strong argument. I was like yeah. That's kind of like just hoping that. Like why i got an air bag so i might as well go. You know too fast for this road. It's like well. What if airbag doesn't work right. I mean so. I was like okay i i don't i don't know if that's going to work real and and then you started bringing up the idea that the well the ring can be removed. And then my immediate reaction was like what. What about. tony's reactor. I mean like that to me is also like another. It's like a might as well be version of a ring. That could also be taken out when you take out the reactor. Suddenly you know. Tony's not got so much so it was it was it just kept going up and down for me when i think about the actual characters. Because that's what we're talking about. We're arguing about. I mean the guy misses a shot and destroys a planet. That had me kind of go and yet that's a. That's a darn good point. He warps since smashes reality loved. What you're doing with that argument caught up to the flash. We're talking about the speed elements all those things. And then its iron man could break the the green lanterns ring ring draining. He absorbs all forms of energy. He's it's hackel. All this stuff had me constantly going up and down back and forth. I i really i. I don't know. I didn't. I didn't know where it was gonna wind up. I will say. I did wonder if there was a slight attempt at disqualification if you will when when ray you were you're criticizing bad writing and yet i think that's all well within the rules that are established about the arguments are to be presented as in those characters versions so the bad writing argument doesn't really hold water here because it was all cannon was it not am i incorrect and unfortunately all correct so all of that kind of had me kind of going ok well and and honestly massive points. Massive points went to ray for using pew pew in your point to belittle tony stark. That that i don't know. I mean i don't know if you've used pugh many times in your point three but go for that many times because that i mean you shot to the top however i've got to go for the ama reference because at the end of the day. I think what was happening there in the end is james took you to the ground and it was ground and pound and he just kept hitting you with point after point after point and it was too much for me to lean towards green lantern so at the end of the day for that reason alone the ground and pound one and i gotta go give this win to ironman and that's what i'm talking about right their way to victory if we let james talk for a half hour. Hey no rebuttal boy. His point sound better rate radius. But he said either wins again. See listen i mean this is. This is where you guys need a referee. I'm just a judge ray and it's like at a graduate bags or not. I don't know. I don't i don't know if it was my point to step in and say violation or you know so i think you guys might want to consider having a ref you know what i would say is it is your responsibility while you still have a chance to change your mind rile wildsmith. Oh wow you still have a chance. Because when he goes over the time that egregiously it is it. Is your responsibility not listen anymore. Cedar responsibility to stop taking notes. He's got over his time limit. Much like anything else. Anything said is strictly off the record. I do have a chance to go back. I gave you change your mind. Let's tell you what. Okay fine ray you know what. Take my headphones off. All right. i'm trying to be more. Like i can't do the the. Wwe thing. i just. I'm not as good at that. But i will say this i'll go back. I'll go back to you. Criticizing bad writing. Oh my gosh. And i'm going to. This is my mic. Drop moment for hashtag rogers right. Okay ray. guess who was a screenwriting major in college. Oh my goodness ratios your jaw stor. Yeah you chose the wrong part of the industry to criticize when it comes to cannon and things like that you went for the just a low blow below the belt. More may references. You know what. I mean you just you went for the writers. The ray ray may have put my spoon in the wrong oatmeal. Your i'm also writer i am. I can't believe this i. I'm as offended as your there that being said rate. If this is improv good lord man you with your. I mean like you. Yeah can see the the wrestling background. I i got nothing to it. Because i'm a crappy writer on the self esteem comes at. It doesn't.

On hal jordan green lantern. Hal jordan is a superhero and founding member of the justice league of america. He was created by john. But perhaps you got to go with it none so looney as daffy duck yes in the animated tv show. Duck dodgers duck on accident. Gains the power of the green lantern ring and wears the costume as well and for the record. Yeah yeah you may be been brought up last time. The character was but it's such a great point. How do you not bring it up again. That's right. I mean you may as well in the in the in the debate right there. I just want to say anything. I should have chosen of possible screwed up you. May you may have not thought this room all right now. Here the details for ironman ironman. Otherwise tony stark was created by stanley inject curvy and first appeared in tales of suspense number. Three nine back in march of nineteen sixty three tony stark is the son of wealthy industrialists in head of stark industries. Howard stark a boy. Genius tony enters. Mit at the age of fifteen to study engineering and lay received. Master's degrees in engineering and physics after his parents were killed in a car accident. He inherits his father's company and becomes a wealthy american business magnate. Playboy philanthropist inventor engineer scientist after suffering severe chest injury during kidnapping his captors attempt to force them to build a weapon of mass destruction he instead creates a mechanized suit of armor to save his life and escaped captivity later. Stark develops his suit adding weapons and other technological devices designed through his company stark industries to protect the world as iron man. And here's an interesting fact about ironman. Did you know that. Stanley created iron as a personal challenge. Really dare to himself. It's true stanley. Claimed create iron man's way to challenge himself and see if you could get readers to like someone they would normally hate. At the time which remember was in the nineteen sixties the majority of his readers would have been antiwar and definitely anti military so it should have been clearly against tony. Stark and iron man instead arm went on to become one of marvel's most popular characters and the rest is history and now you have the facts on both opponents roger. Do you have any questions before we get started. Did warner brothers. I guess looney tunes any tony. Stark version any iron man like you know sylvester the cat anything because i again i mean that's i don't want to weigh in too early or or tell you where i'm already leaning but i mean i mean bugs bunny as iron man. Nothing you got nothing james. Well here's the thing warner brothers. With these sea and very rarely do they. Do any mention of a crossover. The only time actually ever seen a crossover for marvel mention is it was in teen titans. The movie stan stanley makes a cameo. And then he he he leaves when he finds out. It's not a marvel movie. yeah okay. that's unfortunately we're not gonna crossover. Don't worry i got some stuff for you. okay cool. we're okay. that's a fair point. Well done thank you. Okay sorry forget. I even mentioned it. I mean i don't want it to get in your head. Nothing like that you know. Well it's too late roger. craig smith. Because i'm hearings captain america's saying james. You've got this james. you've got this. I can leave right now literally. No matter what happens. That was impossible as what we do. Oh wow i feel like fighting crime rate Go ahead and hit us with your point number. One point number one for the green lantern. I wanna talk a little bit about some of the basic utility that the green lantern ring will provide because there are just so many non-combat things that can help them get situationally what he wants now. Some of the various things that he's been able to do with the powering because essentially it's a ring powered by his willpower. It's a ring powered only by his imagination. That's the only limits that he has and he is known as a very very competent and good architect of this kind of stuff. So what does he done well. He's used it to create super speed. He's used to propel himself very very fast. He's been able to catch up to multiple jets and spacecraft as they have tried to leave the planet. Now if you can catch up to a jet going as fast as it could possibly go. I think you have a reasonable chance of maintaining speed with a character like iron man. Who's going to be flying through the air using similar propulsion technology. Although i understand tony. Stark is is pretty good at making tech. I've heard a rumor. Additionally though he's also used the ring to completely encompass the space craft the jets. What have you even as they're going full speed and bring them back down to earth. So what's stopping him from hitting tony stark iron man with the ring encapsulating him and just pulling him back down to earth where he can do whatever he wants to him. The answer is not a whole heck of a lot. He's also been able to use it to restrain people he's been able to restrain some very very powerful characters. He restrained logo with the set of chains for a set period of time. It was able to at least slow him down. Lobo finally broke free of it. Eventually and superman. He was able to restrain for a certain period of time. Using a giant green clamp that he just wrapped around his body and said before. You go and superman superman. So obviously he wasn't gonna hold onto them forever but the fact that he can slow these people down means a character like iron man. He should have no problem slowing down in this fight but he's also created replicas. he's created replicated. Tire replica coast city. Which is i believe about twenty miles across and he even destroyed a place called engine city and then recreated coast city on top of that although he realized wants the ring ran out of power eventually. Because he's got to recharge it every so often that the city the city wasn't going to last forever basically and he had to kind of abandoned that plan but he can also use it to protect himself. I guess the character named mangal whose ridiculously powerful he created a whole suit of armor and a giant sledgehammer. He looked a little bit like steel. If you remember that superman shaquille o'neal character. What a delight. That movie is starting finish awesome. He created kind of a similar looking thing and was able to slap mongol around really good. I've seen him create kind of an anime style. Mecca suit whatever. He wanted to a couple of other things. I've seen him do create very very complex. Constructs things like electron microscopes which is so. It's not we're not just talking about things that hits you real hard. We're talking about devices that do very specific things. He can also use his ring to scan an enemy for weak points and see where he needs to hit them and how he needs to hit them. So i agree. The iron man suit is a very fabulous piece of technology. But it's just no match for the green lantern ring scanty at for a weakness and the dropping it. Exactly what it's gotta be heck the last thing. I'll leave you with here. And maybe the weirdest thing. I've seen him do out of a lot of weird stuff. He wants sent to construct through a telephone call to essentially take cigar out of somebody's mouth and then stamp it down on the desk to put it out and he did that over the phone so there's really no limits to the wild craziness again. He's only limited by his imagination and his imagination is vast. And that's my point number one. All right okay. Some interesting things to ring up first of all. I think you should be awarded ten points for bringing up the steel version. You know that show shaquille. O'neal did i feel like that is a classic and has been forgotten by many of us. Kudos to you as you american. Say also i. I love that that Cigar stomping thing. I believe that was done over a phone line over national landline. Which was really cool. I don't believe a landline will be involved in this battle. I'm pretty sure it's going to be wireless. At least hundred percent wireless green lantern keeps up with the times. And so i assume he can now transmit construct wirelessly through the the t. mobile network. Does he has good day. He's got a good data plan. I he has to to send a rising. I mean those. Send themselves okay. That's really cool. So he's got will power in imagination. That powers rings. Those you're saying those are the only two limits to his ring. Is that correct basically. Yeah he previously had had a version to the color yellow but through the storylines of green lantern. Sorry james he's officially broke it out of it. The color yellow does still do stuff in this world but he could absolutely affect the color yellow. So it stinks that that. Gosh darn yellowish gold. Costume of iron man can in fact be affected. I know. I just wish maybe there were some other. I don't know limitations or such thing that he has. I hope it's a shame there isn't james. I'm signed for shame last thing. You know it's funny tony. Stark's armor can actually absorb energy. And i'm going to get more into this later. So i think being held by green lantern is actually a bad call because Ironman will just literally absorb that that power that energy the construct energy Sewing not a good sir sir. I will show how it works later now with all that being said and that was actually not a bad point number one ray. Here's my point number one. Let's talk about iron man's tech now of course he has what's called cutting edge bleeding edge tack because he's a futurist he has to predict what's going to happen and most of the time he's right. He has to create tech weaponry armor. Whatever it is to plan for. What's about to happen in five ten fifteen twenty years. This is who he is. He's that far ahead so let's start with his armor. It's super durable. How durable well during one nuclear explosion that he found himself in he actually didn't even notice he was a nuclear explosion. That's how powerful. The armor is a completely protected them. It's also super strong as it can lift one hundred tons that puts them in the whole class of strength. One hundred tons not too bad it can also move at super speed when flying in space at least in goes fast as warp speed and also. He's been clocked. At over. Mach ten within the earth's atmosphere. But he can move has to his suit. Also gives tony stark like super fast reflexes and this is actually really key because the reflexes helped them to outmaneuver spiderman spiderman. Who's super agile. Has got the super fast reflexes. And spidey sense ironman can actually outmaneuver him again. I've already mentioned but he can absorb vert almost any type of energy kinetic energy energy he can take energy from the planet earth. Power himself up. He's used magical energy powerful self up. He's used thors energy. Anything can think he's done it more again on that later. Let's see the suit can also generate a magnetic field to pull or push metal objects that well he put that in there because he knew sooner or later he's going to have a big fight with magneto. Sure up it happened and more on that later as well but he came out all right. It's got sensors you're talking about green lanterns rang. That can do this. Incredible kind of checking of what they're facing. Well i got all of that. Plus more the sensors detect your physiological signs biological signs energy signatures. Everything you have going as well as kind of your thought process neurons kind of processing. He's going to be able to figure out that. Hal jordan is using some type of telepathic connection. Our psych siona connection to that ring. He's gonna figure that very quickly also can detect astral projections any type of energy signature. He can detect. He's got an energy shield. Because you know if you have armor that can protect you from nuclear blast. Why not have an energy shield. This is almost comical so at one point. He tried his energy shield. He's let's just pump it up to two percent. See how that does it gets a nuclear explosion. And of course nothing happened. That was his shield at two percent in terms of weapons. He's got his repulsive blasts that can be fires a pure force of distractive of force. You know to push something away or it can be a beam. A particle beam of energy. It can range between vaporizing a gun to blowing apart a mountain range from a very far distance away. He's got lasers pulse bolts smart missiles energy. Plays a huge like a sword or even insurance like a shield. This is important. Because he gave captain america laser shield that he used that you could actually launch off his arm. What have you. He's got that as well. He's got that omni beam which is actually a multipurpose weapon that can be shot as a big beam of force aching. Get so hot that it's two and a half times hotter than the surface of the sun can be super bright blind people. And here's my favorite one. It can be sought shot as an ultrasonic wave again more on that later but that can really take out some super powerful opponents. He's got that. Ai some people. call it jarvis. I'm you know he's got. He was more advanced. And this is the most powerful a on the planet earth. Tony stark uses that as a psychic. Because that's how smart he is. But there's more if needed his armor systems including strength and flight speed durability all that can get greatly amplified all yesterday to say the word override and all of a sudden. The system takes away all the safety protocols and let's go to a crazy level. That's five six ten times more than where he's as an example of this. He picked up nuclear stuff happening here. He picked up a nuclear fusion reactor that weight evidently sixteen thousand tonnes picked it up fluid over somewhere deep in the ocean and dumped in the ocean. Where exploded. I hope name was okay with that you know. He's got his power so the bottom line is that arms tech has been developed and tested such greed that to even someone like al jordan. Who's used to alien tack nailing civilizations armand's armor is gonna look really really futuristic and super.

"Their stories by finding bad pictures and things like that sounds awful. Well we don't know how many exactly vineeta it seemed. Like it was a lot he did he did and he was genuinely redeemed and sorry for what he did. He quit being lawyer. He didn't quit though he was on sabbatical. Actually h okay. You is placed on sabbatical but he seemed very aware of the fact that his day of reckoning was coming and that he was completely prepared for that and that he wanted to be punished and that he recognized his own need for some kind of reckoning and he didn't take a cowardly way out to do it himself. He waited for someone to actually do it. he didn't just. I liked that character. But he's also for me he's the he's what makes ryan's character so much more tragic because she forgives jordan not only forgives him she trust him to do the right thing by sending him the video at the end of the movie. She fully trust that he's going to do the right. Thank ryan could have had that same path if he felt bad about what happened. I don't think she would have left him. If he genuinely was sorry about what happened and he did. He had the exact same amount of time that jordan green had passed that situation. He didn't even understand why sandra lest he didn't even remember nina nina. Such a nonentity to him that he didn't even connect the dots that she left over. That it's terrible. It's absolutely terrible. Because i think that was his moment of this is where you show your person or not. If that makes sense like that was your that was your moment. She shown that she can be forgiven. He have had it all he could have had her. He could have helped her with what happened and actually been a good person and he just couldn't do it. He had to be a sleaze ended. It made me very angry. I watched it in the movie. And i watched it again since we were talking and i was even angrier the second time but does that come down to what he did or who he is when you aren't truly repentant for such as this from the past and it takes blitz blackmail for you to have any kind of sense of wrongdoing or obligation around any of this. This is the question. Is there any path to redemption if you have no repentance or if you don't recognize well i guess yes and though because in the character of madison. She basically believes that she has been raped. And cassie what's her experienced. That and i think she changed after that. She realized she had that moment. And that's that's all cassie was trying to do to every single person. She ran across. Give them that. Oh shit moment and hoping that they come out to be a better person on the other side. She didn't have to do that with jordan green. He added on his own but she didn't hate madison or try to ruin her life..

"The nurse's outfit which i won't comment on but was awesome to say okay. Okay just in case you needed to know chrissy. Now she's all. I mean we watch together and that's the other way now. She's just amazing in the film. But the other thing i would say and we talked about this is on sunday. I was like yeah. There's really only one good man in this movie. But i was wrong. There's two and whenever you want to talk about that. I kind of wanted to talk about that. Because i think that a male voice shouldn't be silenced on this because there are two people that are really good. Examples of is just a genuinely good person and one's a good redeemed person exactly and we're gonna get there in just a minute okay. I promise you. I completely agree with you because i i do. Think it's very important to not silence male voices when it comes to this film. I've heard calls from female critics who have said things to other male critics just based on the fact of that one guy is really insensitive comments saying oh we don't need to hear from men men have nothing to say on this subject and i think that's not helpful because in reality what this film is fundamentally about. If it's about anything it's actually about how men and their behavior needs to change and even though it's kind of a set of don't do this job do that. You still have to navigate a way forward in terms of what is actually appropriate behavior. Where are the guideposts that are actually set out by the movie that indicate that and so the two characters that you were talking about. Rob do you wanna so. He's not out. Yeah so stanley. Thomas played by clancy. Brown is her dad and he's not in a ton of scenes but he's in some really important ones and it becomes readily apparent although they really want their thirty year old daughter out of the house. Both of her parents love her. He has this really emotional one on one with her explaining. How nina per fun to committed suicide after that terrible event was like a daughter to end to cheese grieving. But he's grieving for two kids and basically says we've been grieving now for two. We lost two of our kids over this. He's just a genuinely good support her. He wants her to be happy. You can tell. He doesn't like ryan. When i watched that he does not like ryan ryan did not make him laugh and maybe he saw moore of ryan's true colors than what she could but he's still supported her and he wasn't gonna go to hate on. It wasn't just because she was finally to move out of the house she was happy. And that's what he wanted personal one. But then you have jordan. Green played by alfred. Molina apparently was one of the worst despicable lawyers and human history. Making hundreds of women recant..
