"KFBK Now TRENDING The New York Times is reporting the state of Michigan will pay out about $600 million to the victims of contamination of Flint's water. The bulk of the money will reportedly go to Children who were poisoned by the lead contaminated water supply. One of two men convicted of killing Michael Jordan's father in 1993 has been granted parole. Larry Demery is scheduled to be released in 2023, but a judge said they're released could actually come in a matter of days. ABC is Ryan Burrow joins us Live with more details this morning, Ryan, What do we know about this case? Flashback to 1993. The Chicago Bulls had just won their third N BA title and seemed to be on top of the world. And then this story that Michael Jordan's father was missing. His body was discovered 11 days later, in a swampy area of South Carolina. The trial that unfolded indicated that Larry Demery and Daniel Green were there or present in some capacity in this murder. Thie. The conviction was that Larry Demery had actually driven up and found James Jordan, sleeping in his red Lexus and fatally shot him. The story was that Demory was trying to take part in a drug deal that had gone wrong. There's no implication that James Jordan knew anything about this, or there was any connection between James Jordan and these two men, but Apparently Demory then brought the body to Daniel Greene, who then help him dispose of it in that swamp now flash forward to today. What's interesting about North Carolina law is, If you are receiving a life sentence today, you will not have an option of parole. But North Carolina changed that to reflect after 1990 for this crime took place in 1993. Demory is eligible, and sure enough, with set to be released from prison, maybe as soon as a few days, although it looks like right now, August of 2023 will be that time. So Ryan, if I'm not mistaken if I recall correctly, there were some rumors and theories back in the day that this might have had something to do with Michael Jordan's gambling debt that it was somehow related, but that that never really panned out. That theory er or rumor, right? It always circulated that there may have been something more behind this. This wasn't just some kind of random shooting death. But as this investigation continued, as Mohr information came out, it did not appear that these two then 18 year old men knew who James Jordan were it wass and didn't even know until well after the burger. That they had killed the father of Michael Jordan. So there doesn't seem to be that conspiracy out there anymore. Although flashback to 1993. There were a lot of rumors so 2023 was the original release date. Why could he get out of l a matter of days? Yeah, it will be. Part of this release will include a halfway house. If you will, there will be some rehabilitation. But, you know combination of Corona virus and other factors could potentially allow Demory who, by the way, was convicted to be the trigger man. In this case to be released much sooner than 2023. We have not heard any formal statements by the way from the Jordan family and If you followed Michael Jordan over these last few decades, he rarely talks about the murder of his father at all. So it's not as though we're getting some information that they're going to push back at all. It's just something that is potential that it could be days instead of years in which he'd be released, right Ryan Burrow. Thank you very much for the update on that case appreciated 7 50. It's time it's time to get a quick check on traffic..

"So my number one. I'll I'll go in spoiler. My number one is The Jordan family And by that Michael Jordan obviously Sits at the throne of that? But I couldn't say Michael Jordan was number one in his own documentary even though he was trying to be number one and what I mean by that is that he was working to Scott Ferrall. He had a message for Scott Perot. He must remember that he added to enjoy it so he spent his documentary just absolutely them And I think like that's why I say the Jordan Family Deloris Jordan. It's such a great job painting. The picture of like you said Michael. The family that he grew up in you know being it a country boy from North Carolina. Learn these values and all these sorts of things. And Yes sir. No Ma'am type of attitude. That he had from his vomit his family and also see other side of Michael Jordan. Right that that he grew into when he became. Air Jordan and now we see the other side where he is battling the conflict between being an absolute winner. Who will do anything do that? And being a normal human being but also he had fun like this is the most fun I've ever seen Michael Jordan have outside of play basketball. You mentioned the IPAD. I mean I guess I would say number. One is the IPAD because I saw Michael Jordan. React as Michael Jordan be human. I saw Michael Jordan. Look Gary Payton Laugh at Gary Payton turn into Air Jordan and son him in front of us but at the age of you know over fifty years old and I think A LOT OF TIMES. Reflect in you and you go back to things. It could be tough. I think Michael has never wanted to say his Over I think that's why the hall of fame speech he was so mad right yet admit it is over. He can't win seven He can't win more than Kareem. And I think that's the stuff that guy thinks about an you know to this day. Probably and in fact when he said he wants to win seven. I'm Hornets Fan. I'm like let's go win. Seven Michael I put on a Jersey like we okay. We'll throw the ball in the post. And that's that's sort of. Why the number one because Michael Like it like Steve? Kerr said it. Oh It's my story and I'm sticking to it this is Michael Jordan story and he's sticking to it. This is how they one other six championship. Yes there can be some questions asked as to the the absolute validity to everything that was shown or said but the end of the day. Michael told it his way and he had fun doing it and I loved it. "He makes everybody around him better. Now, obviously, you can say Michael Jordan played in a triangle. But ultimately, I haven't seen Michael to effective at running a pick and roll, I know different eras different styles. But I'm giving that now we need to pump the brakes. Right. Oh bit. That's all right. Like, I know we're getting into where we're getting into a debate about the point zero zero zero zero zero zero one percent of the world here with Michael Jordan. Lebron James, I know the owls may be different. I know we're shooting a lot more threes. I know a lot more your skill set. Michael Jordan, it would've probably average thirty five in this league. With the point. He because he is he becomes so myopic on his work ethic. He would've. Belt at three point shot. And that was the NBA game. He would have definitely changed his game and bit into the way in the style of them, we say plate and. That we know that when you look at the Jordan family tree. Let's see how Jordan's okay? Without Jordan at that time, period. We have Koboto Coby would we have LeBron would we have kyri? And I think this is why everyone goes back to Gordon as the greatest of all time largely because he created this competitive. Iconic mindset has changed the game. Again, LeBron James will continue to change the game. But they're not many six eight to twenty s in the future besides probably Zion. And also, you can agree that Michael would adapt in this era. But ultimately as a passer as a playmate. That's not that's not his game. If you're going to beat the Golden State Warriors, you beat them with ball movement. Now once a ton of time Michael made the air with the baddest man on the planet. Went out had a group of role players, and you wanna championship Kobe Bryant got championships like that. But now if you're going to beat eighteen you got to move the ball, and you gotta have a group which you in the Brown who better than move moving a by senior debating, the wrong topic. I think you're going based upon like with Jordan and be able to adapt to this new age. And I think Jordan would I think Jordan's game overall winning. What he win. I know. He'd score depends upon your management. You're managing putting in the right situation to do with players. So our Jordan would depend upon who's doing it. That was Jerry Krause at that particular time, it would depend who's doing that in the future. My thing is we just look at the broad overall. And I've said this before I think he's the greatest player of all time his impact on the game for an entire team is what makes him the impact greatest player of all time because he can pass he can defend he can't score as well as Michael, but he can still give you forty five points. They give you a triple double. You need all those things who can cleave. I'm just going to say Michael is not going to have an impact. I don't think Michael's going to have that impact on overall organization where he makes guys better. I believe as a score as this as an I don't think he's going to have that impact look at Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant is not going to win a championship without a guy like Steph curry who moves the ball around. Again, that's management to me. I think what Michael Jordan data is he birth. A new generation of Hooper's. That was I contact me. I think that's why we consider him the greatest of all time. But LeBron James is one of a kind absolutely one of a kind which is why you have to witness the greatness because when it's over. I don't think we'll ever see it again, they want appreciate until it's gone. I mean, you gotta understand Michael was also dominant. I'm not gonna knock somebody for an era of dominance in how he just he had his stranglehold over every other star in the league..

So if we will food, but we have to talk about the midterms which were two weeks ago, and we're still talking about it, obviously before the elections, you went knocking on doors of black families in Atlanta through mind them, how important their votes would be which was such an incredible thing to do. People were losing their minds his contract. So what made it important for you to do that? I mean, honestly think we keep saying this is the most important year every year. This is the most important. This is the most important, I think things have been progressively getting, you know, little worse. So this year is definitely the most important here thus far for voting. And I thought it was really important to get out there. And you know, let people know that their vote does matter the voice can make a change is need to get out there and actually exercise that right to vote that our ancestors had, you know, had struggled in the sacrifice so much to give us that ability. So I think when you're not. The ease. My way. But no, I just wanted to give them encouragement because the people that we were speaking with were local leaders of their communities that was getting other kids in the community out to the polls. And I just want to go out and think those people for doing such a great job in their community. Backing Stacey Abrams and stuff like that. So it was a really important to me. There's a lot of talk about inclusion in Hollywood lack of inclusion, but I someone told me that you basically taking the situation into your own hands. What what are you doing the walk the walk talking's cool, but I'd just like to lead. By example, I help wanna brothers right there. Inclusion politics policy for for the for the studio and just mercy just move gets finished doing about Bryan. "But no i mean but it's it's true though it really taught me looney tunes is such a heavy place for me in terms of just like slapstick comedy like it just i mean even even when spongebob came around i was like oh this is the next generations version of that signed l spongebob is a cartoon that i think is extremely funny but i think it was the next it was like the militia version of let's fix all the kings and make him a sponge so yeah but yeah all right great so we got a very diverse range of reviews here but before very diverse move is it a basketball movie is a comedy isn't a cartoon is it live action it's all of the above yeah it literally fits in every category also drama dark drama i mean it is kind of a little bit there are aspects of it like the whole like michael jordan family stuff i thought was kind of also just seeing like wow this guy's a superstar then he's sucks at bass bream dodd is missing and i i just just helped may help the looney tunes like steal his shit which was like any question and they tell me it's so weird been stolen beta one of the reasons why gave it a four so kids are gonna be therapy for a long time i know i'm serious debt bugs and death were there man all right we gotta we got gotta put this one away so before we go we always play the game we always play which is a little game call celebrity telephone but my good buddy ryan hunter at point pack and basically the way the game works hamid is mitchell will choose a line from the film and then he will try to do his best impression of that line and then we'll go to me and i will try to do my best impression of his impression and then we'll go to you and you try to do your best impression impression and then it goes in a circle and it becomes something interesting.

"That i don't think they would understand i think that it's it's more of a joke for the people making the film and then i think for the audience that's all definitely but i just i definitely think it's it's an also a non to being like we understand that this is still acting and net we're still enters and this is it was just like a joke that they've been wanting to make since they were on a big screen i think they took advantage of it but by the way i don't i didn't look this up do you was that actually michael jordan's family no they're all actor yeah they're all actors they have the names of of his actual family i thought so because i was like i was like these michael jordan's families really good all good actors like those indeed kind of a blank slate but actually linke does a pretty good job in this movie in fact i thought all of the athletes get pretty good performances there's some very funny deadpan which i think is also one of the reasons why i was like bill murray is a strange fit for this movie i'm glad to give me context as to why mel but his comedy style works really nicely because he's got a very deadpan you're saying you kind of takes more understated and that sort of the comedy of it all because that's when you're dealing with like athletes who are not super confident when it comes to acting like that's the best kind of performance you can get out of them like i'm a huge fan of sportscenter commercials that have been around for like twenty years you might be familiar with it it's center is a is a sports show just like talking about like what's going on on the debt in today's sports but they do these commercials with like actual like athletes all the time like lies like oh this is what it's like inside behind the scenes.
