"jonkers inskeep" Discussed on The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner

"I was gonna say i have absolutely the worst fantasy football team in our league but then i looked to yours but i don't understand how with the team that i have. I don't understand how. I got seventy six points all right. So we're gonna get into well discussing some of life's big questions and dwight troot but we're we're here for some football rain seventeenth year of the office. Fantasy football league first off. Let's let's talk about the draft a little bit now. We did the draft we did a zoom drought and a snake draft not an auction draft a snake draft not an auction draft and we were on zoom. Most of us most almost all of us Now i do have to say this. I thought the the zoom idea is great but nobody talked and everyone was looking at their sheets and the thing so every time i would look at the zoom all you see people looking down or looking straight ahead but not looking at the camera. They're looking at their things. It's true it's kind of ridiculous. I feel that it was kind of it was not. It was kind of a letdown. Socially and it wasn't it wasn't the rip roaring fun. I thought it would be. I was the one who pushed for zoom although you had done it last year but i couldn't do it last year and last year was more fun. I don't know why people are taking it. Take it seriously people and well. They should. Yes they do. Take now you. I would say you take as seriously as anyone sure. Yeah i take it very seriously now you. You played david wallace. Yes you played. David wallace and sun and mostly his son. Yup then they smoked me and tyreek hill. Thirty two points kelsey thirty twenty three points jomar chased from cincinnati nineteen points robbie. Gould from san francisco got fourteen. Give me a break. That's more than austin. My first pick kicker from san francisco but what about all the office fans listening right now going. I don't play fantasy football. I don't understand what the hell you're talking about. I mean i'm not that concerned about that right now. Because here's the thing we do. And so i want i want i want to talk about about about me for a second and our friend jonkers inskeep. We had our draft at a at a normal time. In the united states. he was in romania. The the point about bringing him up is that i played him. And because he was travelling romania he was auto drafting and he destroyed destroyed. Me i mean that's particularly frustrating. Like he got jalen hurts. Who scored seventy two points. Yeah he's got thirty thirty. Five points from jalen hurts. Who would have thunk it. Aaron rodgers one point three to your good buddy aaron rodgers. mvp aaron rodgers. Yes it was it was it was not the best week for the packers and certainly for me. It's very fr- what's what's the name of your team. Satan's ballerinas that's my old school names. Sometimes i mix it up when i have a good pun. I have another league where i drafted Is an auction league. I drafted russell wilson and I call it. Let russ cook meth. Why is he cooking. I don't know because everyone says. Let russ cook. That's kinda seattle chant. Want him to get unleashed so he can just of do his thing which they're finally starting to let them do and he threw for four touchdowns and he's kind of unstoppable but i liked russ cook meth because it makes me laugh. You you have. Will you have jason. Myers you have the kicker you have. All i have battle. You have no other was disappointing for again. I'm gonna. I'm gonna trade for someone. I'm gonna get someone going here. How do you feel about seattle. This year i feel really good about seattle but there are some other teams out there that are really the rams are gonna be tough to beat this year. The nfc is going to be tough across the board. Yeah and and arizona. As well. And i think there's going to be a few others. That that pop out there in tampa bay was looking surprisingly stout after their super bowl win on game one against a tough dallas team. Listen to us. We should have our own. Espn show. i mean really. Shouldn't we want to talk about the office at all. I feel bad for the people going Back about Well we will we will. We will talk about the office. But i talked to steven socks recently. Our commissioner of the fantasy football league. He told us that you offer the worst trades to anyone in the now is true now. Is this do when you're when you're proposing that trade. Are you just hoping the other person's not paying attention now a when you offer a trade. It's like it's like you go to a a market in morocco and you're like oh that's a nice rug. How much is it ninety dollars in a what. I'll give you thirty. Oh you all your crazy okay. Sixty i'll give you thirty seven. Okay and you meet and you buy it at fifty dollars. Like that's how you're supposed to do the draft or chiding not do a trade to so it's like when i say like oh i'll trade you you know Ryan tannehill for russell wilson. That means like you meet in the middle. We're gonna find something like like work with me here work with me. That's my idea. Is that you kind. Work it along but some people are like they get insulted. And i'm like no and then it's done what about what if i what if i offered. You ezekiel elliott for austin. I would seriously consider that. Do want to try. You wanna consummate that right now. Yes okay. let's do it. Okay let's do it. Zeki oh elliott for austin adler. Yep we're done. And now we have a trade done consummated publicly. So we'll see what happens. So what what else is going on with you besides fantasy what are you. Are there any work projects that are happening right now. Yeah thanks for asking brian. I i just did a movie with bryan cranston and annette benning called jerry and marge go large and It was very funny. An interesting film really excited for people to see it. It's based on a true story about this couple in michigan that figured out with that this certain lottery game if they played it the right way they could be guaranteed winners so they got all the people in their small town in michigan to over the years to be playing this lottery game and made dozens and dozens of people. I want to say like millionaires but kind of saved their town. Essentially we this is. This is true. This is based on through story. True story this story. Yeah yeah it's an amazing story and the name of the article. If you wanna google it is jerry and marge gha large and i play supporting role of the guy who runs the liquor store where they buy all their thousands of lottery tickets. Okay i kinda come along for the ride. So that's it was. It was a lot of fun working with brian again. And people know that he directed the work. Bus episode of the office. The director multi-talented human being great human being and I shot in atlanta. Your hometown coach. I have to say was the first time i've shot there. I've been through a bunch of times. I loved it atlanta's an amazing town. Great food culture diversity. Vibrant traffic sucks but it was really a phenomenal..

Can we make mockumentary of this dog. Wow yeah pretty crazy. Dude civic sedan. Nounce this josh gad. Mumps thing and then it like instantly died. And i don't know why i think it's because there was like a big kind of argument over like what it was and what it could be originally was with bobby moynihan ends like i would imagine more of the writer of those two because josh guys great but he's a performer. Necessarily the guy who can capture the original. You're in a meeting with all these disney executives. Your josh gap. Yeah you're done. And they're like so josh. You wanna hear what we're like kinda working on with disney plus given to me and then they we've got like i know i know i love. I honestly love those stop doing all this shit we gotta mandal oriented show star wars and then they just keep going or if you tried to take every one of those projects along some executives over here over here like we've put him in a facts malian gaga's and they all go a level one of the best animated. I'm much we can do this. Do disclaimers is oh. My goodness i love we loved. I loved john gap jeans and then they were probably like we have this. Muppets thing. bobby moynihan's work. You probably want that. And if he's like interested you know they're going to be like what's you we can do. Yeah especially that contract. That they have is an isn't it's it's both ways right. They're like well. You're locked up for forty projects and they're also like we got. We gotta get out of this josh gad. We got some projects. Ace out and give them them up. And then imagine. Like someone goes to bobby moynihan and they're like. Hey bobby what's up man. Great to see you. Here's the deal so we just had a meeting with josh. I know paul billions of dollars the janitors because they can keep the money. Oh boy this is so much. Vomit money everywhere. Disney and alabama vomit. Get real mad about. Bobby guess what. He's interested in being a part of the show body goes. Oh that's cool. That's great we'll call you. I guess and then he goes like what he wants to be in the room or maybe like help. What does he like well. He wants to like big part of this ground by the kid might have gone like out of that meeting and gone off. Fuck yeah take my shit away so bigger than me man and who knows her politically got pushed out in some way. Look all a lot of this. is conjecture. Bu- steve made up the whole. I would love that. I think that's where we met up really believable hollywood. That's really good actually hollywood one. Oh one yeah one of them's true so like three hollywood truths alive or something. What time john krinsky got kinda called out because he was responding to people. Jonkers inskeep jonker. That's he's pretending to be a fan and telling him how much he works out. And how much could beat them up. Is doing that. Kevin durant thing. I watch basketball anyway. So i i i would love to see more muppet stuff. I guess but you know this mansion thing sounds pretty cool. I'm pretty exile regret now. I sat down and just turned on. Did you guys watch america. The motion picture. Nobody said it's real good. Holy crap it so fucking explain it. It's an animates. An animated movie by donahue. The writer is but the animation company. I'm pretty sure is the animation company behind archer. Yes and it's basically about the founding of america but it's just ass backwards and crazy did island. it's on nevis. It's place channing. Tatum george washington Andy sandberg in like the most impressive didn't know it was him until the credits roll. That i've seen him out is benedict. Arnold who is the antagonist of the whole thing and he sides with the british. It's fucking amazing. Simon pegues channing. Tatum jason man. Soukous olivia munn. You'll be moynahan. Hey bobby moynihan has paul revere. Judy greer judy. Greer's in it. Which is another archer connection will forte forte. Is abe lincoln and again and george washington like best friends in an cortes voices. So it's so fucking bonkers blood. Oh man i mean he's like he's so funny he's naturally funny like yeah so fun to watch him. I don't have more to say on it other than you guys should. I'll watch it and then we'll talk about it because it's so funny. It was refreshing. And it's like. I said it's stupidly violent. It's it's making fun of america but it's also just like turning the american exceptionalism up to ten at that's great. I'll definitely amazing. Whoa we We started watching a show on apple. No peacock call dr death starring joshua jackson from as the titular and it set in two thousand twelve. It's based on a true story Adopter who would operate on people and intentionally botch. It was a hero maniac and alec baldwin as well as christian slater playing the older doctors who are on gleaming the q- what riveting actually it's kinda cheesy. Actually it's it's like it's like you know when they knew dialogue sometimes and it's back and forth and it's real witty and it just seems off. Yeah there we go sounds riveting. I don't care if it's cheesy by the end of the first seven like let's go to the next one keough. It's pure saccharin Drama yes like engaged just beaming. Kimmy pinging it. In salsa joshua jackson it's riveting cling three different. It's okay okay. It's a riveting show riveting show. it's an unbelievably. It is the best show. Josh jackson being all peasant and good in it he's riveting he's a riveting performer. Don't believe it..

"You know why is that. I don't know. I don't know but like this white supremacy. Oh you think that's a pretty white. He is as they like. Jamie fox is not and then it's like gerard. Aaron eckhart in that chimp. His morgan freeman the president in. The olympus has fallen movies. How in one of them he is. I don't know if that's true or not. He is the president at some point. You're right. He is friends with Drawer bowler. Because at first. I was like i don't know about that but then i thought no that makes sense totally makes sense. I can see them back. Like five o'clock on wednesday everything to do but this is the so people know if this is about there are there's like corporate espionage in different production companies on or if just a really good idea gets pissed around town and then someone buys it but then someone like i don't know but we can still make version of that so i want to tell you just in one thousand nine hundred six. We have four iterations of this twins. Twin films okay. You have a top gun right. That's the one we'll know for. There's also one about a fire pilot called iron eagle okay. There's hundred percent is there's back to the future about a guy who goes back to the past and goes to his parents high school. Peggy sue got married same version of that that's kathleen turner. She's in that one You have robocop which we know what that is The the twin to that is the vindicator. Okay which really made the name and the one. A lot of elder millennials will probably resonate with is a greg The great mouse detective in an american tail. Okay both have great. Mouse detect yet. They're the protagonist or mice and they are trying to find their way home and they don't know how to do it in the animation as a little suss so i thought this is a really like i think we we. We think everything's accelerating but this idea of redundancy in the in the arson and creativity it's always kind of been in tandem with weird that one of those twins does really well and one of them doesn't is the deciding factor is it cast is when it's released as the marketing budget like. It's so interesting that one will do well in one will not. And you know there's a corollary kind of phenomenon to go along with that called the mock buster and it's when a production company intentionally makes a movie that will look like a blockbuster and they'll try to like get the you know like how some google sites like you would google like blockbuster dot com you know and they be called blockbuster dot com and like it would do movies tube. I don't know if i want to read it but it does do what i'm looking for here. It's the same kind of deal there. I've been trying to draft off it. Okay let's talk about. Let's let's get down to brass acts here and talk about the There can only be one Versions of redundancies. Where they're so that we need to like rule on worship. Say okay. Let me present you. My first case. Mark wahlberg and matt damon car. Okay listen i know that this will make the deposited null and void because they're both in it and you can't. You'd have to get rid of one of them. I would argue you. Get rid of matt damon and with the pod. Right but he's he's such a weasel that it makes it he is that's true that's very fair. But they're the same age. They're fifty born in the suburbs of boston. They've both been with the romantic partners for more than fifteen years. They both have four children. Each okay They both also had controversy after controversy because of their brains and their mouth right. remember win. mark wahlberg told us that he because he was scheduled to be on a nine eleven plane and he canceled at the last minute and then later he said if i've been on the plane it wouldn't have going down while mark wahlberg not sensitive to all the people who died at all. Did you let me ask you a question. Jimmy did you wake up to thinking. I'm gonna work from nine. Eleven reference this episode timely. Okay and then the other thing is here's thing guess what. I don't wanna keep either one of them. I want to get rid of both. Wow let's split their roles between two other massachu- sense a'massage cite math vessels massillon. Yeah we're gonna split between two other mass holes. Steve corral is a little bit older. Chris evans a little bit younger backup. Edward norton jonkers inskeep. Wow i don't hate it. I don't hate it because i just don't think we need either of them Okay their feelings probably day. But we don't so. I the one that really is difficult to get away with his matt damon. Because you feel he's kinda got the thing of like no but we need matt damon you know because this is something about him on twitter because he was so problematic about guys who stopped using the f. word and by that. I mean that slur against gay people just this month. Aren't you proud of me. And he thought that was a big deal. Ray thought that was so impressive. And when i said we didn't need matt damon anymore. People rose up okay pie and we're like how dare you know how dare you. They're like why are you married. Agency the great wall to find out what happened in. You know what i mean. Yeah jonkers linski is a stretch like no. it's a strategy fourth play. Yeah be clear. But yeah i think maybe like we keep the departed and we just lose them from everything else. I think i'm going to do. Let me see here. i'm gonna do. I'm gonna jessica chastain. Amy adams isla fisher Brighthouse howard listen kudos to you for including allah fisher who normally gets left out of this list every actually act anymore every trains got bumper right. So she's the bumper but that's too many hot gingers. It's the same age and like just chatting and amiens probably a little more serious. I fisher is just the comedy browse howard's there too. You know shows all by styles. Howard is is terrific part yeah. She directed a i think she directed Helped write a good episode black mirror. Oh yes she started. It might sure helped direct to. I think but i just want to say like we can keep all four but they have to go. Buy a portmanteau okay and i have four. Three different pitches for you. Okay okay and that's how we talk because really what this is about is being economical with their time in her speech right and the fact that we talked about for them. It's just too much. So i'm going to say I'm gonna give you you hear these. Listen to these all right. Tell me which one you pick. Okay just let dallas adam's okay brassica fish dams or m yucca dowager etc etc so if we say etc sure no one of those ginger in it or doing it. We don't care which we don't care which one because it's a hot jim thome jessica. Yeah okay she'll do the drama sub but whatever but but we know that all right. We're covered. okay okay. my next one is cheeses and cheese. Nips look hear. Hear me out if you are. If you are prioritizing cheese nips the third thing i need to know about you as a person you putting all the bodies office every night and i know that you have your favorite pair of slippers and drive that pacifica that you talked about earlier. Okay i know i if you forget it. That's how they trick you because they're like. Oh it save money on the cheese. That slit also. Obviously we want to be in solidarity with labor protests. You can eat. You can't eat cheese now. Nabisco taking advantage of their labor boycotting all of us go products so But so therefore we get to eat cheeses anyway. But jesus are just superior you know many flavors of jesus are one right show up and said hey you spicier okay. Well i'm old. Cheddar cheeses need to chill out with the flavors. She's nuts this cardboard e texture that you're picking We don't need that. I don't under an amata all of you. Who still make it a situation that i have to deal with when i'm going in my wallet cheeses. Yeah there's a little yellow box going. What about me. Me home yeah. It's it's almost like i think. I thought they were already gone. You know i thought it was like Coke pepsi it's like. Yeah but are they right now. That is right now stopping their car pulling over so that they can. Msnb like you have. You tried archer farms cheese it alternatives. No guess what i've done. I've not made my own detergent. And i'm not getting the equate version of cheeses. When she's it's cost two dollars and ten cents yet trinity. I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna do that with like i'll do.

"Be more grateful to you Man and your standard of acting in your quality of acting also made me want to achieve in be the best that i could And he wrote me back fabulous letter and then you know he would. He never would call me directly to say he likes being something. I always hear it from lake. His producing partner would call me. And say bobby would never call and tell you this but he saw you know. Oh brother were bell. Hated the movie but said my cousin was the best thing that was. That makes you it really. Does you know. And so we had a wonderful relationship now. I haven't seen him face to face in twenty five years but we write back and forth. You know his stepdaughters. I'm very close to you. Know he'll say. Tell wayne that so unsown or i loved them in this and they would call me knowing that it would make my year out doing that so so so i'm glad that we i kinda killed that anger within me that bitterness and now i feel like i have a good relationship with mike an the kind of respect me. So that's kinda cool. Yeah if you've beautifully said he should have one for the judge in two thousand fourteen phenomenal. He was so great. Yeah he was phenomenal. And i have to say anything so many so many things and ironically like you talked about the first letter you wrote. Where like angry like you are. You are like one of the hardest working actors. I've ever researched. I feel like. I feel like he went to tell me if i missing something here when because we talked about you know maryland a little bit and you know where you went to school but i feel like once you got to new york you really busted your ass like whether it's extra work or working for free or doing anything you had to do to get that extra advantage in my looking at your life and path karenna you are you are it was not. I was overnight. Success no. I literally took his advice to heart roberts advice to heart and said i worked in anything and everything whether you're paid or not so. I did summer stock. Where the first Summer stock job. I got paid one hundred dollars for the entire summer plus room and board and if you lost the music because i'd also did musicals if you lost the music you lost your hundred bucks you know and then i got bumped next year to seventy five bucks a week you know so and then i was always doing small original plays by struggling playwrights in in the basement. Feeders you know for basically the money that you pay to get to the theater you know they give you travel money And i did. I was in new york for about eight years back in the eighties. Couldn't get arrested. Couldn't get an agent. Couldn't get anything knowing and finally said. Screw this i'm going to go to california. Went to california Got married a long way first. Time and and It went better but it was another five years before. I could even get an agent and i guess it was that attitude of what the hell sam i gonna do. I don't i wasn't really a good student. I had no other interests at all. So i just said this is it. You know. i'm gonna do whatever i can to make this happen and if it doesn't happen i'm still going to do it no matter you know whether i'm doing community theatre or whatever but that's where my might Passion lie laid lied. Whatever you know. You're you're right to say. I busted my ass 'cause i did. Yeah and you've probably already answered this. I think with your last answer. Like i feel like it was ever a timer like you said that there was nothing else you want to. But there's ever a time where you're like jesus. Is there an easier way. Might doing something wrong. Are questioning yourself. Oh you question yourself all the time. I mean you know. And they're still that imposter syndrome that to this day and it's funding your other actors. Talk about it because i go. Oh good i'm not alone. Were you kinda. go wait a minute. Are they gonna catch me one day and say wait a minute. Let you in the club. You know kind of thing But yeah no there was always a self doubt there was always. I was always on the ropes financially. Doing little odd jobs. Or you know when i was really back to the wall. I call that. Lean athletic brother in the middle. Who just say. What do you need to my brother. Randy anyways. And i'd say i'm gonna pay you back. He goes no worry about it. I my favorite thing. I'll ever forget it. he said. Hey vincent had feel so. Don't worry about and i went. I love this. But i've always paid them back with interest. But you know he was. He was instrumental in keeping me afloat and those really dire times Go ahead what's your win in. It sounds like a great rapport with your family. What is the the reaction once you kind of start to gain momentum. You do really well for yourself. You're starting to establish yourself as an actor. Those that believed in you in like you said those those skim or difficult moments all. What are they like to you once you kind of are gaining this momentum. Are they happy are they. You know way to go. What's the reaction to you wing. Well no you know. My middle brother always had complete faith. My older brother. I always thought you know. What is this kid doing And now he's kinda in all that. I actually did it But no most of my friends. And i gotta say My closest friends my network of friends are are those people that i came up in the ranks with you know or they left the business. But they're still my friends friends from maryland friends from you know new york in the eighties that i went to college with that. You know i'll always be grateful for who like when i came up from college and they might have been here in new york for a while to be under way so everyone. I think it's kind of like a group pride thing. They're like one of us did it. You know because. I mean you know i so much luck involved in this business and being in the right place at the right time i mean i see people on commercials that i do. Oh my god. This person is so frigging talented. You know and i'm sure. They're struggling their ass off And and you know so. There's a lot of luck involved to get. You know to be able to do what i'm doing right now. Which is not on. What every day. And i'm grateful for so we're we talking opportunity right. You kind of mentioned a little. We talk about opportunities how they come like your work ethic is is obvious right so how many opportunities cover like situation with jonkers inskeep who you work with on the really underrated leather heads where he kinda remembers you for any. Has you in mind. And i saw quiet place to the opening weekend at the theater. Really happy for you. How many opportunities that come along wayne for you where you saw somebody at one project they said. Hey wait a second wayne. Wayne's a really good actor. I you let let. I haven't been mind for this project. Comedy opportunities present themselves like that. I think i want. It's definitely like a handful. I mean i when i did. Oh brother were art del. George clooney I guess really liked what i did in that film and you know he called me out of the blue that was burstein. It happened for me for leather heads. And you know it was one of these things where george My i get a call agent. Say george would like you to You.

"Can presume doctor. Strange and wanda are gonna go at it. Because he's gonna come in and say you're messing with reality or you're dealing with chaos magic and you need to stop immediately. And of course she's going to be heck no. I'm not stopping to get my kids back. So it's obviously a at the end of the day they set up when it needed to set up. But do you wish that some of these loose ends could have been tied up a little neater. Oh absolutely i mean we still talk about it because this is the conversation topic of our house but like why did they bring up this mysterious engineer so many times like what was that all about. Where did that come from like. Were they just string us along. Was there some one. He may be couldn't come back to you know. Finish whatever the finale and they just had to you know. Just keep rolling with it. We don't know so. We went from everything from john kaczynski. Where a big proponent. For that. I thought it was jonkers. Inskeep playing reed richards mister fantastic. We also thought it could be nick fury coming back. He's not really an engineer. But we thought maybe he would show the guy He could be the guy. I know a guy I thought it could be taylor as well. The scroll from captain marvel that separates christian. Do you think the scroll who revealed herself at the very end. Was that taylor his daughter or is that just a scroll just for like my own personal satisfaction. I'm going to say that it was the his daughter. I would love to see a backstory to see. I would assume that the last contact. Monica had with taylor's his daughter was when they were in louisiana at her house before they. Well i guess not necessarily because taylor and his family. We don't really know we don't know where they went. Or what happened back up to the space station. Did they go into hiding on earth somewhere. So who knows what the relationship looks. Like between taylor's daughter which. I do know her name. I don't think unless it was unlike some kind of weird after credit something. It's so taylor's daughter. And monica around the same age and captain marvel so obviously there would be around the same age now exit. The snap would screw that up a little bit but anyway around the same age you know. I'd love to see them reconvene. And kinda finish a lot of the work that their parents put in place and i think we might get some of that in secret invasion. I think we'll get some of that. And captain marvel two.

"A quiet place part tool feature the same original cast including john krasinski In flat minor spoiler in flashbacks. I'm assuming as well as adding yummy kilian murphy and jim on hunt. Sue to the ensemble. John krasinski stated that he originally did not want to be involved in the sequel but the producer convinced him to come over and pitches ideas to the studio after three weeks. They asked him to write the story with the idea. That direct to'real duties would be handed over to other filmmakers and krizan ski finally offered to come back as the director jokingly suggesting that he was quote jedi mind tricked into signing onto the sequel unquote. Krinsky it's your damn movie like come on buddy so i have a funny jonkers linski story to tell you okay but also just really quickly. After watching the first movie i was like. Why didn't they just live by the waterfall. Because that was like the only place they can go there and they can scream their heads off and like not worry about the munsters but the monsters would still come to the waterfall. I don't know if they would. I couldn't hear them screaming but they still. It's not like there was anything keeping them from getting to the waterfall. We'll know is this. The waterfall was so loud that they didn't have to worry about being quiet over there because the waterfall allowed. So it was like this constant noise so they can go and actually like talk and scream and and y'all is also a source of water and food. I was just like why don't they just fucking live there anyways. All right well unto my funny jonkers in hurry. So and spencer. And i went over to my mom's house on christmas she was like. Oh did you hear that john. Krasinski went into rehab for alcohol and cocaine addiction. Wait john krasinski. She's like yeah. I'm like emily blunt husband. John krasinski like the office. John krasinski like jack ryan john. Chris ski she's like yeah. Yeah like what i'm like. Where'd you hear this. Oh it's like all over the news blah blah blah blah and. i'm google and i'm like jonkers inskeep cocaine. John krasinski rehab like. I'm not finding anything. And then spencer was like do you mean john mullany. Totally totally different person might not even similar. My mom's like oh. Yeah john mullany. That's who it is. Wow i was like could not wrap my head around the fact that like john krasinski. That does some good news secretly. Have this like alcohol and cocaine addiction. I was like what is going on in this world. But yes. I don't know i think i need to start writing down these things that my mom has been coming up because she's also the one who on thanksgiving asked me. What is the name of that band you used to like. That went out of business. And after after about fifteen minutes. We finally figured out that she was talking about the red hot chili peppers too. Which is said. They didn't go out of business. They're still in business..

"It's been a while. While is so, so good to be back man. I miss doing this. I will say that it's tough to take vacation, when you feel like vacation takes you way from the thing you love. It's true. I know sounds a little corny. Maybe some of you, but it is true. Although it was really something of a working Bakke shin. Nonetheless. Roll-call is where we are now. Let's get to it Michael, right? Even if nothing untoward happened while you were there, there's always a feeling of relief when the plane clears Chinese airspace. That's the thing about third train regimes. You just never know knee how bub sexual Michael, I agree with you, my friend. There's something that's always a little unsettling about going to a country where there is no such thing as due process where you don't have the ability challenge in any kind of true adversarial sense. The whim of the government, you know, when, when I was over there, one thing that would come up as people said and the locals wouldn't really say this, but some of the old China hands that I was traveling with people that have been to the country, a lot, no, the country would refer to how in some places they would just clear out. They would clear out a whole section of housing and they call today, eight China's style. While approach to dealing with urban sprawl urban is Asian gentrification, which is the government says you leave now you're done. And that's it. And you don't really have any redress now that's just about people's that's people's homes is important, but you could imagine a situation where your your freedom may be in jeopardy, and it's very unsettling. You do not want to be on the wrong side of an authoritarian. Police state no matter how if fishing and economically, powerful, it has become. So I'm very much with you, my friend. It was it was a big cyber leaf when I clear Chinese airspace. Just because, as you said, I had no reason to be concerned, but you just you don't know my goal, right? So about how many continents have you been to how many countries, are you planning on visiting and art Artika at some point shields, high might cliff? I've traveled a fair amount. But there's a lot of places that I've been to now, China, southeast Asia, all of the middle. East all over Europe of that's really it. I'm not somebody who's traveled in South America, not somebody who's traveled in central Eurasia, much haven't been to Russia. I don't know when I'm going to go to Russia, anytime, but there's places that on my list, top of my list to go that I haven't been to yet. Spain Portugal, nice places. I'm at a point now in life where I really do prefer to go somewhere that I can drink the water, and that I don't have to be worried about the day to day life support things that you do anywhere. You know, I don't like when I have to brush my teeth bottled water, for example. So I won't go to places like that on vacation usually China. I was using the water. I think some people say you don't necessarily have to depending on where you're staying, but. I did. I think that was rob ably, the right move. And there's a lot of places that I haven't been to that. I really want to go do. And I know the people listening to this who have done a whole lot more traveling than me. Jeff, welcome back. Buck gladys. She didn't come back on your shield. We'll Jeff that makes two of us didn't overdo it with the baiju. I don't even know what that is. I visited China about ten years ago at a notice that people really didn't like six foot three westerners walking around, even at a hard time catching a cab just wondering if things had changed at all. Jeff. You know, you get a huge variety. You get people that come from the more rural parts of China, some of the outer lying provinces, who come into Beijing come into Shanghai, and they find westerners to be kind of exciting treat. They wanna take photos with us. I mean, I have people that wanted to take photos with me, not because they're part of my beloved. Radio audience. Although I guess that would theoretically be possible. They could listen to podcast. But because they just find the site of a westerner and, you know, my little scraggly beard, and everything else, they find it interesting. And I even have people telling me that they've had parents hand their kids to a western because they want the kid to pose with a western a photograph to think it's kinda funny or they like it for whatever reason there's much less of that with the native Beijing population with the Shanghai, Shanghainese native Shanghai folks show. There you go. There. And I think there's right now because of the trade war, situation, there's a degree of, of hostility. Now there's a degree of. Irritation and frustration at America. And also, a sense of swelling, nationalist economic pride from the side of the Chinese where it used to be America. Mcdonalds Coca Cola Hollywood? There was a more of a sense of how Great America was or how there was a cultural now, I think the Chinese, and this will look this while they've shut off who goes, but I fell off Facebook. They wanna do it their way and they want their approach. And as a result, there's a little bit of the other rising of America in the eyes of the Chinese, and you are definitely the other, when you are there that is for sure. Natan. Hey, Bob Hope you're having a great trip. Your guest host or on point, but producer might you know, the volume on Stitcher is better and three commercials aren't for transgender issue podcast. Great job shields, high Nathan, what the podcast commercials were. But I can tell you that I'm seeing a lot of very positive feedback about our guest hosts across the board. And that's my, that's my mission for all of you is that if I can't be here, I always want someone at the reins of if I'm sick or on vacation, which. I don't I don't like doing either of those things really vacation. Once in a while, I want somebody at the helm of the freedom on who's really good who's doing a good show for you that you're going to want to listen to other hosts do this thing, they get the kind of the mediocre to weak host so that people all, I miss, you know, so and so, so amazing. That's not my approach. I prefer to have somebody who's really good. Hopefully you still always want me back Britney rights team. Buck misses you safe travels. And if China tries to keep you, which, I wouldn't blame them for I'll join the bring buck back movement. Brittany, I very much appreciate that did not come to that. So that's a good thing. But yeah, thank you, so much missed all of you to William Reid CIA analyst, Jack Ryan Amazon prime series. It has John Christie from the office and thirteen hours. I only watched the first episode and thought it was awesome, Jack Ryan reminded me of you, because he's an analyst, and he was walking around drinking coffee. Indeed. William two things. I was very good at watch it and give team but your thoughts shields, high William, I think I've talked about that show before. I thought it was. Pretty entertaining. It's preposterous. It's wildly on realistic. But it is pretty entertaining. I can say that. It's something that I think you, you will enjoy if you were to, to watch the rest of it, and Jonkers. Inskeep does a good job. I wasn't. I know he was good in the office to I should separate out, do I like his politics knows big lib. Yes. But overall, I think he does a pretty good job on that show. And sometimes see I- analyst, do get the girl or the ladies as the case may be that's right. Low rights. I just turn on the podcast for Monday with Charlie Kirk, and like the first few minutes about the China trade war sounded like a Rush Limbaugh regurgitation, but good information then Charlie went into the latest episode of game of thrones which I haven't seen yet I turned off the podcast and will not listen anytime Charlie's on his podcast. He doesn't even have the common sense, not to tell movie plots on national shows she'll high balls. Well in China. You know, also attacking China on your national show, while you're in China could make you the next victim of Chinese kidnapping just thought. Well, all I'm sorry, if there was a spoiler fee about game of thrones, but, you know, that's going to be, unfortunately, something that's an occupational hazard for people in media. When, when there's a big thing like that people are going to talk about it. But I can tell you, I have not seen the last two episodes of game of thrones, and I'm not gonna waste any time talking about it right now because I haven't seen it so that wouldn't make any sense. But also, I've known for a while. And I've been saying it for a while the, the show is, it's not what it used to be. It's, it's gone off the rails a little bit. It's just not as compelling. It's not the writing is not as good. The writing is not as tight and you just see that route. So that's where I am on my friends. That's what that's what I got for you on, again, thrones for now come back when I've got more and we'll hit a quick pause, come back to finish out the real strong. They.

"He don't be that person in the. True. But it was just like that whole theater was just on pinned and needles. And so, you know, say what you will about the movie it self, but that type of energy. Yeah. Was unlike anything that I had experienced in a longtime. Yeah. And that I will say that. That's that was very well executed. I really really liked that. There was a girl who was behind me who had like candy candy bar, and like was just like slowly opening which makes it worse. Just a movement at one. Yeah. She was just like. For like twenty minutes until this dude who was like two seats in front of me was like. It's just that was really really great. I mean, there's just there's so many elements of the film that I was like I saw this coming for. It was really kind of predictable to me they were very there were so many parts where I was just like, wait. Why didn't you just move near the waterfall? Didn't you talk here? So put a tent yet over there move, your home, just you know, stuff like that little things like that. I was like what why are you put that baby box. Keep up some milk or live downstairs in the place where you can talk, and you can be all fine. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And also a mattress, that's the only thing that's covering. They just had a mattress that the that. There were parts of that movie. That drove me crazy. She has a baby and is just like up being like what's going on? With Papa was when when hormones like the human body is an amazing. That's why my I mean, it was there was so many things you could've given that baby some milk. She was sad. I mean like she was pregnant for a while. They didn't store milk that drove me. Crazy jomie crazy. Like, it just doesn't you could tell it was like the whole entire time was like this is written by dude win my grown, man. Who did not ask his wife how babies work just there were so many things like that? That just drove me crazy. But yet that and you know. Yeah. I think it was I don't know this is kind of a weird thing. But it was weird to see a husband and wife duo. I don't know why it was so real life Jonkers Inskeep. Emily blinds real live. Yeah. That I think it worked young, especially when you watch some of the behind the scenes stuff, and you listen to some of the interviews that type of chemistry that you have from being husband and wife, and translating it to a work. Relationship. I think I think they pull it off. Really? Well, I think that there's a communication level in the professional level than is. Like, hey, I know you're tired. I know you have been doing all of this. But also like he talked about how like he was there when she actually gave birth to their kids. And so during that scene like there's a familiarity to it that I think really played through. So just granted they were dumb, and they dump stuff. Yes. Yes. Yeah. I don't I don't know. Why just didn't it didn't really resonate with me that I always see him as Jim helper? And to see him as like, this grizzled macho man, you know, is like it's so strange. I wanna laugh in his face buzz mean, I know I know, but it's still an eleven his face. You know, I it's just weird, but it was great year for horror. There was also this movie movie this TV show called house on haunted house on hunting hill. Or did you watch it? I did I saw their panel and gutsy the course of a York Comecon the actors the director. Episodes..

"The Kevin Hart thing has entered like a new vortex of bad a new vortex of like shut it off turn this away. Just go go get like Emily blunt Jonkers Inskeep. Now, like fix this. Like stop trying to make something that we know. Nobody. Wants and isn't gonna work happen. That was my immediate reaction to when I saw it on Friday morning. I was like this is bullshit. Like, there's no way this is ever going to happen. So why are they putting everybody through it? Again. Can I give you my I had one like cynical galaxy brain moment of I did wonder whether at this point, they thought their best option was okay? Well, if we have in back, then there will be such a controversy and people will be so curious of what happens they'll tune in to watch. And it'll help us with the ratings. I do not think that anyone in the economy is thinking on that level enough to even have that plan because what you said before of everything is just during test balloons. What if we try this? What if we try that? But I did wonder if for a second they were like, well, we don't have any better idea. So maybe we should just lead them to the controversy. I don't that's not their style. I know I don't I don't want to politicize this. But it's just key Trumpian. Like, that's a weird style. They're just be like, I have a crazy idea. And I'm going to say it out loud. Like, that's just not a way to do something like this, which if you take this stuff seriously is the crown jewel of this kind of thing, and you kind of have to protect its dignity, and they're not. Doing that. I agree, and it also just frustrates me. The extent to which they do not they seem willing to abandon the people who actually are interested. And who do you want to watch? It exactly are as I've said this before there is not going to be fifty million people watching the outdoors again, that's of not how like non-sports live deviants work anymore. Would if they nominate deadpool two though. Like fourteen year olds doing how to turn on television. That's true. We never gonna give you the ratings. No, they're not going to have fifty million. They might have a twenty million people who actually care and there is a way to use twenty million invested viewers and people who are at that. And just invested in actually in this holocaust. But also in the economy, and the whole thing there's plenty of ways to make money off a twenty million people if you guys would just think about it for two seconds. But instead they are offending or just abandoning the people who actually do care in try in in the hopes of getting what like three more fantasy three million more phantom viewers. It doesn't make sense strategically. And it's frustrating as people who actually do watch and pay attention to this. Because if it's listen if it's going to be the Kevin Hart tobacco every year and bohemian rhapsody winning for best picture like fine. We won't do a us anymore. Good luck. Yeah. I don't want that. To happen. I don't either I really I it's it's been dispiriting and it's frustrating to cover because you know, I wrote a column or early last week about how the show really needs a host. And how the last time they did the show without a host. It's one of the worst shows ever, and it opened with this incredibly bad musical number and had that famous infamous Rob Lowe in Snow White moment, it they do need somebody to keep the train on the tracks. Now, whether that's four or five people in that guide mode, or whatever, but. Just just don't insult people's intelligence. You know, that's kind of what the whole thing is like for the last few months hate to leave. This spirited episode on such a down note. Hopefully, we'll be back with a more excited and enthusiastic and sincere conversation next week where we'll be talking about a whole raft of craft awards. So we mentioned the PGA nominations came out the DJ shortly the WGN shortly the BAFTA nominations come out soon, the critics choice awards unless your favorite award show. You've been watching it..
