"Is the woman in her bathing suit her two piece gonna do when she gets out to the World War two fighter jet that crashed into the water. You need any help, sir? I can't carry you. I've got no food on me. I don't know how to fix this plane. What can I do? Can I text my husband? She's the best. Okay, that is done to a news. It is time to pivot quickly. To the NFL draft, joining us here on the show. He's joined us many times in the past. You could watch him right now and watch ta dot com That's available on any device, including mobile friendly ones, and you could also watch us on twitch, our CBS Sports radio channel there. He is one of the lead NFL draft writers for the athletic. Joining us here on this show is our friend it, Dane Brugler Dane. Good morning. How you doing? I'm doing Well, How are you, dear? Doing? Great. Thanks so much for joining us. I think the big question starts at three. In this draft. Everybody seems to have a different prognostication on who the Niners would take it. Number three. Who were you feeling like San Francisco will lead towards it. Number three. At this point in the year. It's less about what makes sense It's less about this is what you know we'd love to see it in. This scheme is more about okay. What are we hearing? You know what We think that the 40 Niners are going to do and the most of the buzz that you hear running league is still for Mack Jones on, you know, that's It's interesting with the second pro days this year, you know, no private visits, no facility visit this year. If you want to see these players again, you have to have a second pro day and so we've seen several teams specifically the 40 Niners and Kyle Shanahan attend each one of these pro days Justin Fields and Columbus Yesterday, we trailed Lance and Fargo. Did anything that happened in those protests change cow Shanahan's mind because obviously, they moved up from 12 to 3 with a specific quarterback in mind. But did anything happen? These last 3 to 4 weeks to maybe alter what they were thinking going in? That's something we just don't know right now. And so will we find out, maybe get a better inkling the next nine days, possibly. But here we are just over a week out from the draft, and we're still kind of guesting, and it's It's one of those things where Obviously we have a really good feeling about who's going one who's going to, so it's not like the 40. Niners need toe, you know, play coy here. They don't need a smoke screen Anybody. I think they're genuinely keeping their options open. They're keeping their and open mind. Free twenties quarterback says We have to remember. Area Scouts haven't been on the road in the fall. You know the staff the front office, the coaching staff. They're still learning about these quarterbacks and so doing their due diligence, keeping an open mind, but I'm sure they have a leader in the clubhouse. We're just not entirely sure who that is. Yet. Do you think that Mac Jones is a superior prospect to Trey, Lance and or Justin Fields? I could understand why you would think that personally, I do not I trey Lance to me eyes. My third quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Zack Wilson. Trey lands Justin Fields and then Mac Jones. I understand it with Matt Jones, though, because let's let's break it down the two most important traits that you're looking for in a quarterback. Accuracy decision making. And you could argue, Okay. After Trevor Laurence and Zac Wilson, you could argue that Mack Jones is better and those two areas then Trey, Lance or Justin Fields. Does he have the same type of upside? No. I think with Matthew just have to decide. Okay. Is he good enough in those other areas talking about mobility? Arm strength. All these other variables that go into playing the quarterback back position at a high level, so with not Jones, I think he's easy to like because of the anticipation of mental processing how accurate he is the ball placement, but it is tough when you watch this film, and it's just a perfect situation. The everything from the run game to the offensive line Heisman winner wide receiver, another first round receiver, the play calling with coach dark, so it really makes it a tough evaluation. But I can understand. And why. Some are pretty bullish about Mack Jones because it all starts with those top two traits. Accuracy decision making day. Brugler joins US lead NFL draft analyst for the athletic But just to clarify you do have Mac Jones as this as the fifth best quarterback in this draft. I do it, But you know it's tough because I'm doing a generic board here. You know, I'm not scouting for specific scheme. That's kind of the you know you're at a disadvantage doing this from the outside in because you know you're saying OK in this scheme, you could be this and this scheme. He could be that, But I just think when you look at Trey Lancer Justin Fields, the upside with those two players on, it's not just upside there really good players right now. This is just a really strong quarterback group. You know, for the first time ever. We have a good chance of seeing quarterback school 1234 in the draft. It's never happened. We're gonna see quarterbacks go 123, and it would be only the third time that has happened. We've never seen quarterbacks five quarterbacks with a top 10. We've never seen seven quarterbacks school in the first two rounds. There's a good chance of that happening. So this is just a very Quarterback heavy draft, especially at the top, especially the top 10. And I mean the word consensus, the word safe. Those words do not belong anywhere near. You know the NFL draft dictionary, OK, they're just they They don't belong, but e think when you look at these quarterbacks, and it's a perfect reason why there's no consensus with these quarterbacks. You talk to different evaluators around the league. You get different answers and even at the top with Lawrence and Wilson, you know it's so It's just, you know, these guys are all ice cream flavors throw really good. It's just everyone has a different preference with what they really like. Okay, So tell me about the talent evaluator. That puts Zach Wilson, head of Trevor Laurence, because I want to talk to that guy. I can't imagine anybody would look at those two careers, those two players and actually think that Wilson could be a better NFL pro. And Trevor Laurence, What would they see there? With Wilson. You know, he's just a natural ball handler is just very natural with his accuracy. He's the type of guy the best player I can explain. It maybe is, you know, never played darts before goes to a bar One night with somebody's after five minutes. He's just running the place. You know, because just naturally accurate. Some guys were like that. And Wilson..

"Closed another record week on Wall Street. The Dow Jones closing at another record high of 34,200, the S and P. 500 also hit another record, marking the fourth Street week of gains. ABC News Economic correspondent Deidre Bolton reporting. Investors haven't looking beyond Wall Street for places to put their money. We men seeing a lot of, for example, Cryptocurrencies Bitcoin. "Protect in do everything you need to do for justin herber but beyond that like putting pieces on defense this well edge rusher i would do on day. Two corners really important. After obviously cutting casey after probably the next priority. I would say after left tackle denver. I have quarterback linebacker safety. Cornerback no had a quarterback quarterbacks the big question mark there in its after sam darnold ended up with the panthers. I was kinda wondering what what they wanna do. George obviously the new. Gm they're trying to figure out you know what he what he wants like. It is drew. Lock his guy Or could potentially be looking to take a quarterback at nine. I don't know As far as like who would be there at nine for them. patched depending upon. If let's say let's say like everything goes kind of the way that we've been talking. Where it's like quarterbacks gone tap foregone by either four five or six or what have you before they pick it nine do reach. Would you consider that a reach from act jones at nine. I don't know. I just don't know what they think of of him in denver but like you know the. They fixed a lot of their things. They needed to defensively Kyle fuller ronald darby said addresses. Your cornerback situation. And even you know mike boone. Who's the guy that was very far down the depth chart at running back here in minnesota. George peyton clearly liked him Enough to want to keep him on the roster or to bring him over to to denver to You know allow him to be on the author that running back spot but probably outside linebacker and our other ones. I would consider for the broncos his. It's really remarkable. How this team is a quarterback away and It is also interesting by the way. They're very quiet like you're right. We don't really know like we're hearing all these whispers than mac jones. And then the trae lance atlanta likes lance and then fields broncos have been quiet. And they're the team that again given the fact that i truly believe era quarterback away. They should in my. I believe this team day should trade. Do you have been quarterback. Hell do whatever it takes get fields or lance. Because i think my is go third. Do whatever it takes man. So we'll see our a final team. The las vegas raiders. What he got mom you all of a sudden you had all these defensive needs and then john gruden's kinda like let's just get rid of the offensive line while we're at it so the right side of it does this through the right side. He'll yeah like maybe a center may be a right guard Another offensive tackle would be nice beyond that though. I mean that to me is your priority. Probably looking at the interior the defensive line and then linebacker and safety talaat positions. But yeah i i. It's an corner at through corner out there. But otherwise i agree with all of it. They rehearse which was kinda surprising to me They they've had a lot of turnover on the roster because they as you mentioned just disposed of the entire rights line they lost aguilar tara williams hearst but then they added you can walk way towards addressing edge. Why we didn't say that Kenya trade for reasons. John brown Willie snead solomon thomas. I still think they need to address the d. line. So yeah it it really. I don't often have line things like massive mystery to everyone. But i think at seventeen well no know they might go corner to. I don't know but that's a big area of need for them. We did it the entire. Nfl that is every team help. Every gm was listening. Wow okay well. As always i one would think that's it but it's not because we've got five more questions for our guest and now it's time for dinks dunks. I'm getting paid for this right cornelia. First question is about who else kirk cousins. I've taken a calling mack. Jones kirk cousins. Some people think that's an insult. I don't it's not. I think cousins is good. Where do you think kirk. Cousins ranks amongst nfl quarterback. You can give me a range if you don't want to give me an exact number like he's a. He's a top fifteen quarterback. I think that you can win top fifteen quarterback but in the case of the vikings when you take away the entire left side of his offensive line. You're not helping him any like i know that. You mike zimmer looks at the defense and says it will. This was the weak link. This was my baby. It's not where it needs to be. It's not where it was last couple of years. You still have to protect your quarterback who yeah he's got some mobility can he can bootleg like you can do a lot of things that we talk about mack jones. I've never really understood the full kirk. Cousins comparison because map can't bootleg the way that Kirk is really really good. Play action quarterback. That's one thing that like. Mac jones is a throwback to not being of like throwbacks that different Older era of just being a traditional pocket passer so don't truly understand the full comparison but nonetheless. I think kirk is a top fifteen quarterback but you need to make sure that you have pieces around him that make him able to perform at a top fifteen level putting that respect on kirk cousins mobility. Love it all right second question. What is something you want to happen on draft night just for chaos purposes. I wanna see is not like anything against mack jones. But i wanna see some quarterback chaos the fact that like we you know the trade happens with the forty niners. The dolphins in the eagles nest shakes up the draft order right and then immediately assume okay. It's mac jones while what is it ends up being. Zack wilson. Because what if the jets end up pulling a fast one in taking trae lance and then justin field go somewhere in the top ten. Like isn't what if matt jones stumbles to like late twenties. That would be chaos. I'd be like brady quinn style. Chaos and. I love seeing that not to hurt anybody's feelings. If you're the quarterback sitting there in the green room in cleveland crying. I don't wanna see that. But like i wanna see chaos with the quarterback position in the last one. I remember feeling really bad about was lamar when he was in the green room and then of course it his mommy i love that than the mom and they were falling asleep and now it's so nice to look back on because it's like this great story. Let's great that he's had success. Not not great. That he was. I was stressed to. I remember being like pittsburgh new orleans. Come on all right question. Three aaron donald has had quite an eventful week win..

Trevor Lawrence Responds to Critics

"Want to transition a little bit of nfl because obviously the next big thing on the nfl draft calendar or on the sports counter really is the nfl draft. And it's kind of crazy because there are so many different narratives that are popping up mack. Jones moving updraft boards justin field potentially moving down draft boards. So narratives going on. And so what. I kinda wanna do. That was a new piece of information that came out today. That really leads to an older piece of information from earlier this week that i want your opinion on and so listen. It's draft season. You hear all sorts of crazy stuff but there was a report out a lengthy report from the athletic earlier today which which which interviewed a bunch of anonymous gm's and coaches and stuff like that and so it said in this athletic report. You told me that justin field was going to be better than trevor lawrence and five years. I would say yes that could happen. That was an anonymous. Gm told that to the athletic. And so i thought that quote was kind of interesting in the context of what happened earlier this week with trevor lawrence. I know you and chris touched on it briefly but for the audience. That hasn't fully heard the quotes. I'll read it really quick robin than i want your response but trevor lawrence of course the presumptive number pick. Since the beginning of time no one has ever debated his place as the best player in this draft. He sat down for a pretty lengthy interview with sports illustrated and he said a few different things where he said. It's hard to explain that. Because i want people to know that i'm passionate about what i do and it's really important to me but i don't have the huge chip on my shoulder that everyone's out to get me and i'm trying to prove everybody wrong. I just don't have that. I can't manufacture that. I don't want to and i think that people mistake debt for not being competitive. I think that's unhealthy to certain extent. He's talking about that chip. Just always thinking that you've got to prove somebody wrong. You've got to do more. You've got to be better

It's because he's a little undersized as don mentioned he's he's six foot two so that's generally speaking like shorter than you wanna passer should be however he does make up for it with incredible length. His a really wide wingspan long arms Good burst bend. I like skill set. you know. He had some really impressive russia's where he like. You almost looks like von miller where you're like bending around the corner getting really low dipping your shoulder and getting back to the cornerback So i think there's a skill set to work with their but yet speaking of the pastors for classes just basically. There's no one clear elite guy in the class. And whether it's you know a russo or jalen phillips or og. Larry couple of other guys is basically pick your flavor. Whatever type of player. The Real Story of Inflation Right Now

"What's going on guys. It is tuesday april thirteenth. And today we are talking about the real story of inflation right now. New consumer price index or. Cpi out from the bureau of labor statistics and this is the latest entrant into the great inflation debate. I want to discuss the complexity of that conversation but to do so we have to go back in time just a little bit in may of twenty twenty just a couple of months after assets crashed around the beginning of covid nineteen lockdowns. Paul tudor jones published. What i believe will go down as one of the seminal treatises in the history of bitcoin. The piece was all about what he called. The great monetary inflation quote the depth and magnitude of the economic off took modern monetary theory the direct monetization of massive fiscal spending from the theoretical to practice without any debate. We are witnessing the great monetary inflation an unprecedented expansion of every form of money. Unlike anything the developed world has ever seen for those of us in the bitcoin. Space even more significant than the diagnosis was the proposed remedy. Pj and his team had surprised even themselves by getting convinced bitcoins role in that sort of macroeconomic context. They had turned bitcoin bulls. This was a seminal moment in the institutional turn towards. Bitcoin and the essential thing wasn't just that an influential hedge fund guru got into a pet asset. It was this setup around inflation that people could see and feel for themselves a few months later stand. Druckenmiller went on cnbc echoed many of these themes. He said for the first time in a long long time. I'm actually worried about inflation. He went as far to say that he could see inflation getting his highest five percent to ten percent for a time. Now part of the reason that druckenmiller cited for this was a shift in fed policy a new willingness to let inflation run hot specifically the fed had indicated that rather than shifting monetary policy based on projected inflation. The fed would only change policy. Wants a target level of inflation had already been

"The pyramid appearance while we should say that the reason everybody was was hitting us up to do this because they are they are studying each all the time to the point that they found a whole city the whole city that they had never that they didn't know existed and they're calling it the golden city thirty four hundred years old they just just popped up so explain their digging and they found like turkey kinda yes. They have this technology and they're always doing like there's you can study in college and get a phd called egyptology. So there are people who do nothing but egypt and so you had an archaeologist indiana jones guy running around egypt and they have this new technology called widar and they found this city. They're calling it the golden city and they found like it's like perfectly preserved because it's just been buried with like dirt and dust similar to like that go beckley tupi and turkey. Were just everything was there. And they're finding weird skeletons and stuff and they're finding like different types of walls and structures and things that were not really present anywhere else in egypt and then the big thing like the. The tombs have been studied in egypt. Rate and Light they apparently The sphinx and like alexandria and like all these different things have been studied. But there's no evidence or study about how egyptians actually lived. This is all like. Oh here's a weird temple. Here's a weird pyramid. Here's a weird statue. And i was at there. Consumer Prices Rise More Than Expected, Pushed by Jump in Gasoline

"Reported a sharp increase in consumer prices. Last month. NPR's Scott Horsley reports, the Dow Jones industrial average fell about 120 points in early trading. Consumer prices jumped by 6/10 of a percent last month. That's the sharpest increase in 2012. Higher gasoline prices accounted for nearly half the monthly increase. The prices for food, recreation and furniture were also higher. Over the past year, Prices have risen by 2.6%. That's well above the Federal Reserve long range target for inflation of 2%. But the central bank says the sharper increase coming out of the pandemic is likely to be temporary and not a big cause for concern. Inflationary figures are also somewhat magnified by the sharp drop in prices a year ago when the coronavirus first took hold in the U. S. Scott Horsley NPR NEWS Washington

Biden Administration To Tackle Economic Disparities Caused By COVID-19

"The pandemic made existing economic inequalities in this country even worse. So what does the biden administration plan to do about that. Npr's asia roscoe talk to john jones chief economist at the labor department and the first black woman to hold that job employers added more than nine hundred thousand jobs last month. That's a banner number for any administration and the unemployment rate dropped to six percent but general jones. The first black woman to serve as the top economists for the labor department says you have to dig further into those numbers whenever someone tells me a headline number or tells me the economy is doing really well. My immediate follow up question is for who and who's being left behind and who is not included. The answer as it has been for years is a lot of the country that is not white or male with the growth in vaccinations. Businesses like restaurants and hotels are making more money and hiring more people. Jones says that's good news for black. And latino women who are over represented in the leisure and hospitality sector. Still unemployment only failed to seven point nine percent for latinos and nine point six percent for african americans if the overall unemployment rate was nine point six percent for all workers we would be running around with our heads on fire that is crisis levels of unemployment and jones says that even a return to pre pandemic jobless levels will not be good enough for many people. During the trump administration the low unemployment that preceded. The pandemic was promoted as a top accomplishment. Here's former president trump. In his farewell address we reignited. America's job creation and achieved record low unemployment for african americans hispanic americans. Asian americans women almost everyone but even at those historic levels. African american unemployment was still about double white unemployment for jones. Those sorts of details are significant

Jones e. use stevie to talk about how happy you are about this. Well everybody smile. Would you late daniel okay. Let's see the fact that he's not playing as much as hearts. Real madrid is definitely a philip for liverpool. You know when when you step on the failed and you look at the opposition and you see some remorse and the other side the only thing you know as regardless of what you think of him as a player. He's going to make everybody around him better for everybody around the ease and for the coach. You know that he's going all denies things defensively and this case ramos defensively so this is a huge bull to them as i said. Let's a huge full of pool. Of course you take a look at circuit ronald's not playing in champions league ties and inevitably joe's it's not a surprise that makes horrible readings for real madrid fans. The last set matches didn't feature in they only one three losing seven. Is this disastrous. She say now real madrid. Don't have a hope office more than than more than the best defender he's ten. He's the leader of that team. He brings so much more than just defending and of course. There's hope there's always hope because he's a really good squads but we've we've seen without him dot von he's noise best like tvs said he makes people around him better. We know that not true. "Grace jones version opens her album of the same name. Her version has a deeper group less electron. The song is driven by the sounds carved out by robbie's baseline and the small shouts of guitar swooping in and out of the music. The jones version is less haunting than miller's even in its repetition it feels sexier even detailing of horror. This is down to the magic of jones's voice the way she bends language even in a song like warm weather rhett which would demand that consisted cadence out of almost any other performing jones shouts the word warm like a horn draining. All the sounded can have a note when the word leather arrives is calm. Monotone almost inviting by the time. A song crescendo. Zippy intersection of violence and sexuality. Jones offers the image of a handbrake penetrating a thigh. Man offers up making love before death with a talent that suggests.

And then there are some that you're like man I came away being struck by Clark hunt and thinking he was one of the smartest and sharp guys. And I think. The same could be said for Robert Kraft as being pretty Scharping and in tune with what was happening and what was important. But I I think Jerry Jones is charismatic as hell which is which is valuable like that. Is that will help you be very very successful. But I'm not sure that there's a ton of them. No not. I can't pinpoint the exact moment when I decided I had to follow Franklin Jones. All I can say is that at some point it felt like I had no other choice. I remember even being afraid that my parents would break up if I didn't join or that they'd send me away to boarding school. My family moved around a lot from Berkeley to Marin to San Francisco to Marin to San Francisco and back to Marin. We moved over a dozen times during my childhood. So we didn't really have a connection to any one place and I'm an only child. So as a kid, there were really three constants in my life. Mom, dad, and Franklin Jones. Once I decided I had to become a follower, begin asking my parents about their spiritual practice for guidance on how to meditate with Jones and that summer between eighth and ninth grade. I started reading all of the spiritual books on my parents shelves. I started to meditate to listen to the tapes Jones made. I hope that by embracing my parents lifestyle, I get closer to them and the truth is worked now my dad and I were into the same things or I was into his things. He noticed me was finally joining them on their quest. I love you beloved. This is when I started writing these letters to Franklin Jones. I praise in awe in worship your all knowing state is another letter to Jones. Whereby through your divine life work, the world may cease to die mortal, worldly death, that only recycles consciousness and drip one by one into the infinite well, receiving. Rejecting us in the thunderous orchestra. If you're all pervading form. Attention at any moment and do oversee this grace. And that's when I. Wait a minute. I don't care how weak he's he's got to be polite. And somehow when I heard that. Kind of broke my heart and kind of broke the some sadness, that was an me. Good feel. She knows like how you many really wanted us back. I'm not a me. I literally am. Jonathan Hirsch this dear Franklin Jones. Not long after I made the decision to really dedicate myself to Jones's group freshman year rolled around. Now at school, I kept to myself mostly just read books, made a few new friends but never mentioned Jones. It was like he'd becomes such an all consuming part of my life at an even know where to begin actually developed an executive about approaching other people terrified that I would just not know what to say. Like the things I was learning in Franklin, Jones's group. Thinking about all the time, they were too big too strange. By this time Jones had moved back to his compound in Lake County few hours north of San Francisco. And one day he asks both Thomson, Kathleen to move closer to him if we wanted to continue to be working with him and treating him, we had a move up to Lake County. We had to make a commitment to come up there. My parents and I remember things differently. My mom says that soon after this on the way home from school, I asked her if I could drop out that I wasn't happy with my teachers, but that's not quite how I remember it. I did dislike school, but I also understood that my parents really wanted to go be with Jones. Like if you ever watched a friend fall in love with someone. They always smile when they talk about them, laugh a little too hard at the jokes, sort of like that. Parents seemed euphoric whenever they came from being with Jones, and in some way, me being in school, I was holding them back. So I out and we moved down the road from Jones's residents. His

"Like games x is an old egyptian's touchdowns things that happen and part of it of course was that the social situation was such that it merited a level of attention but the other part was it wasn't like we were like ignoring these games that you guys really really wanted to talk about like that wasn't what the play was like that was what there was that was out there that was there to discuss what the anthem of course continue to be a big thing but the owners jerry jones man jerry jones brilliant all these guys came out here they did the lockout they into owners came down on the field in jerry gels game down and took a knee and now the meaning of the whole need does not really exist in his all much larger longer discuss should i can have about how the whole notion of taking a knee has become larger than anything they had to do with any calls that was surrounded to the point that the idea of taking the nea has at once taking on too much significance and too little sue significance it is taking on too much significance because you have people who believe that if a player is not kneeling for the national anthem that he's not bad about a writer writer for the calls but also not enough significance because the whole gesture has been taken to mean a million things in now is being done before the national anthem which really is not a protest because i always thought that the notion of the protests of not standing for the national anthem not standing because the kneeling part secondary but not standing for the national anthem was the way to raise the question as to whether or not the values that the country represents are actually the values that the country has rightly dabbles what the significance of that was now you got cats at here's teens and everything else kneeling before the national anthem which takes away the symbolism of america from the whole situation it was never about the anthem itself whose about the country about who your and about what we do right now to catch a kneeling before.

"He we radio presented by progressive insurance so we've talked a lot this week about as he kill elliott everybody has obviously as we continue to wait for the appeal to come down but one of the things that really hit everybody initially a few days ago where the comments of jerry jones and is comment was essentially there is no evidence and when you and i talked about that in the beginning we talked about the fact that that was really a defining statement that's the sort of statement you have a hard time walking your way back from if you're jerry jones right because he came out definitively said there is no evidence this is this is all a bunch of book now that you've seen some of this come out what we find out today is that the jerry jones acknowledged i wanna fivethree the fan in dallas disbelief ezekiel elliott would not be suspended from earlier this summer came as a result of the nfl's lead investigator not believing elliott should be disciplined so it's interesting because that that's a difficult thing for me to wrap my head around if i'm going to stand up and say there is no evidence might golik junior play blackjack in las vegas i'm going to at least have talk to you and in no confidently from you that there is no evidence i'm not gonna take shannon's word for it and suddenly go out make it a finnish statement it seemed weird to me for him to to come out and say that's where his strong take came from yeah inflow to hear him sorta walk at back today enough to say you know all limit myself to when the time comes to comment when the time is right and i am able to comment to the full extent that i want to is kinda probably what he should have said from the beginning because we talked about they're just didn't seem to be a lot of upside for him coming out and being as bold on one side of his as he did just because it really wasn't him on the line just yet but he put himself in that line of fire yeah and and i think that there is a moment where you look at it and and think.
