"This very well going into the year during the year. There was so much conversation about what exactly would happen with Jonathan taves and Patrick Kane moving forward. We still don't know for sure what is going to happen. You know, these are two guys who have had so much success here in Chicago. This has been their home now for the past 15 years or so. We've had a ton of winning. Canaan tapes. Those two 5 home games remaining, by the way, for the Blackhawks before the NHL trade deadline, which is March 3rd. So you want to see those two, maybe play some final games and Black Hawk sweaters at the united center. You've got some opportunities to do that. "The Blackhawks had just 14 shots on net in their loss to Vancouver to a Tuesday night tonight in Calgary. 29 total shots, a 5 one victory over the Calgary flames. I'm Kevin Powell, postgame coverage continues up until 1130, the Blackhawks with a strong performance tonight against the Calgary flames just about everybody getting in on the action, a real nice bounce back for the hawks who didn't have their best game of the season Tuesday night at Vancouver Connor Murphy with an empty net go Tyler Taylor radish had a goal in the first period and the hawks scored three unanswered goals in the second period Boris katchouk, Jason Dickinson, as well as Sam lafferty all getting in on the action. So creating more scoring opportunities that was stressed very much. Going into this game by the Blackhawks coaching staff, they had 14 shots on net in Vancouver before that. Just 19 against St. Louis in 18 the game before that, 1819 14, the total shot attempts for the Blackhawks and their previous three games the night 29 total and just a much better effort from the hawks all around, top to bottom, Jackson, stubborn, who in his second career NHL starts, save 34 of 35 shots. "Was that was captain Jonathan taves recapping the black hawks 7 to three loss as Alex Ovechkin nets a hat trick in his 800th career goal. And if you're Jonathan Dave's, I understand where you're coming from when you're trying to break everything from that game down not too happy much about anything that the Blackhawks did defensively. I do get that. It was a very rough night defensively. Offensively, I think the Blackhawks have some positives to pull from their two power play opportunities in the second period look pretty strong. They were able to just generate some momentum. They outshot the capitals in the second period, 15 to 9 or maybe 15, ten, but there were some glimpses of the Blackhawks seeming a little bit more confident, a little bit more fluid offensively, but defensively it was a rough night. And it was another one of those nights in which the other team could just flip it on like a switch and we understand that that's going to be the case. A lot of times this year when the Blackhawks are going to be taking on teams with more talent than them and even tonight as well was another example of what it takes for the Blackhawks to score goals this year. It takes hardworking effort. It takes maybe sometimes a lucky bounce. It's not, that wasn't the case for all three goals tonight. They were all three hardworking efforts, but that is what it takes to just get on the score sheet for the most part for this team. They were also without Andreas athen and see you tonight. Tyler Johnson did return. It looked like he's seen pretty comfortable out there. He stated he was pretty comfortable out there, so all of that is good. "Off the ice Buckle but You're not gonna win a hockey game with 6 shots And if you do you start the bus and we get out of here real quick We just we had no energy We had no emotion in the game We were frustrated You could see the guys were just They just everything they did it just wasn't working And then put on top of that that team came out and they were flying So you know they're desperate hockey team They needed the points and they showed us at the end of the second It seemed like chase was pretty Yeah he was upset everybody was upset I mean you we got caught out there you know you want to stay out and take that extra go at it and maybe create something then it turns over and then you get back in your diesel now you're in there over a minute and now you're two I think it was over two minutes We just were not sharp return parks over it's one of those games where I'm just gonna try to push it aside and try to forget about it We've seen Derek king and again a big thanks to NBC sports Chicago for that postgame sound We've seen Derek king be very critical of his team We've seen him be pretty edgy after some rough losses and we've also just seen him as some people have been criticizing Derek king maybe too soft on his team I don't think that's a case of this I think this is the Blackhawks facing a very good and hot opponent right now in the LA kings who are fighting for a playoff spot as Derek king put it are a desperate team and the LA kings were able to just play their game and really kind of strangle hold the Blackhawks especially towards the end of that second period as king was talking about where Jonathan taves got really upset That came shortly after the Blackhawks got there first and only goal in this game a Patrick Kane power play goal and I almost feel like LA was kind of just very agitated that that call didn't get overturned We had a million looks It was a very lengthy review and basically it came down to it that they couldn't find conclusive evidence that it was offside on the black hawks because Patrick Kane skate is going back to touch up on the blue line as Alex to bring it as coming into the zone in its very very tough Listen I'm sure many kings fans out there are looking at it and saying well no he's clearly you know they're both in the zone and they can't be because he didn't touch back up yet but it's just it's so difficult to definitively call that offside in that moment because in real time there was no offsides called So I think that worked in the black hawks benefit It worked in their favor Not only did they get to keep the goal but then they got to go on a power play and LA just seemed very adamant to try and change the momentum after that and they ended up doing that just being relentless in the Black Hawk zone peppering Colin dealey with shots Jonathan taves was out there for I mean I saw on Twitter three minutes and 19 seconds I had been able I haven't been able to confirm that yet but he was out there for a long time And to see how red his face was skating back to the bench slamming his stick in front of the bench and then screaming at his teammates We understand how how accountable Jonathan taves holds his teammates and that was definitely a case of it right there And I actually threw it to John and Nick heading into the third period thinking that the Blackhawks would get maybe a revamped source of energy there Fortunately they didn't just one shot on gold in the first 7 minutes of that third period and they were never able to really fully get any type of momentum offensively Colin Daly as we mentioned to left this game and Derek king labeling it as cramping up something that he has dealt with in the past I even think the Scott foster game back in 2018 maybe 2019 when the Blackhawks had to go to their emergency goaltender Colin Delia was one of the goaltenders that had to leave I believe by cramping is why he had to leave that game So unfortunately that was why ideally a left today you hope that it's something very short term Again I think he had a pretty solid game tonight as he was constantly peppered by shots from the LA kings but unfortunately this one goes in favor of LA four to one Dylan strome sat down with the media as well Let's hear from the Blackhawks number 17 Yeah.

"We started seeing parks and we started giving up too much too many chances He gets better and better So he backs this up and we're not so good in front of him And you know we don't want to have to rely on him to do that every single night We got to help him and do things better in front of him But you know he's getting better and better every game It seems Eager to talk about your game last time we talked to you I mean there's no much I can say really Definitely not satisfied or happy with where it's at And you know just gotta keep working stay patient trying to build up more energy and more pace more speed on the ice and just you know I think mentally I feel confident with the park and feel like I can make plays and I just you know it's just times when you can't take chances and you know we need to find ways to win tight games and you know with that game in Vancouver we wouldn't want nothing you know you feel like you're minded did your job So you know it's been a while since I've seen a puck And obviously nothing likes scoring holes So I like to get going in that area But it's got a key working through it Not really sure what else to say at this point Building up that answer like each other do you feel like that's a little over you want it to be Yeah like I said I'm not gonna talk about myself in that regards I mean like I said this road trip wasn't easy for us as a team and I think everyone stepped up and you know even if you're not feeling your best and you have to find ways to make things happen So Jonathan tave is not wanting to use an excuse of it being difficult to generate energy you know we just heard Colin Frazier talk about how it's not a lack of effort from the captain you just heard him say how he's felt confident with the puck and has felt some surgeons with his line but you know Jonathan taves is yet to score in a game to this season He addressed that Addressed how those frustrations happen but he's not going to use it as an excuse for why the results haven't been there and that's basically been who Jonathan tays is Since joining the Blackhawks just very serious very matter of factly and mainly just thinking that his hard work his initiative can get the results he's looking for So I mean just kind of some speculation there it seems like that's why he's not looking to answer that question directly because he doesn't want to use it as an excuse because he's still thinks there's a way to get it done The Blackhawks are now 5 two under their new head coach or their interim head coach there a king he also sat down let's hear from him Okay first second period I thought you know we played a really solid second period We did all the little things right We played a certain way that this team needs to play And then the third period we just kind of got away from it again So the consistency of plane a certain way is not there yet but it's getting there So I know these guys are going in there after the game They looked a little They were disappointed which I guess as the season has gone so far I think that's a positive that they are upset about a lot But why is it so hard to commit Yeah I wish if I knew I guess I don't know It's just the mindset Confidence A lot of you know you get if we go back to when they scored they would have done that a month ago on this team that I'm sure they would have just kind of buckled a bit but we came right back and we reacted And we tie it up So we just kept going like that I think it's just a mindset It's a confidence thing And right now I think our confidence is much better But it's still not where it should be Especially if it's hard work I mean it's no highlight goal but I'm good for him He works so hard He's and I got a lot of time for research Obviously having him in the Rockford there And it's just great to see a kid that works that hard get rewarded and you know it's too bad we didn't get it into over time and get a point or get two points for him and but on a positive good for him No I don't you know I think he's fine plain wise Like I don't think he's hurting I think it's just I think he actually did some good things tonight I think his confidence is coming back He's feeling good with the puck now You know I think just that one goal that goes going to go in whether it's an ugly one or a pretty one I think that's going to help them I don't know him when he obviously I've seen him play over the years when he's a 100% but you know I don't think anybody's a 100% first day of trading camp the next day you're never the same as you were when you first came into camp You're always banged up or something's bothering you So But I really like he's playing both ends He's working hard and he's doing all the little things right It's just you know he's frustrating for him I'm sure the level he expects and he's not getting his goals right now but they'll come They'll come What if you think of stocks and literally stock had some fire I really loved his game tonight I thought he did a lot of good things He's made strides you know he's starting to get a little more consistency in his game and just hopefully he continues to play that way And it's good to see a little emotion from a I think it's awesome You have a very effective like that Well I mean yeah you do but I get it You know it's emotional game and this is what we need in our lineup And we need guys to play emotional I'm glad to see in fighting but they need to be excited about getting on the ice Those shifts but they have to bring some passion For the most part I think we did And then we just have those little lapses words I don't know if we go to sleep or we're just we overthink it or start gripping the stick again because it's two two we might have a chance to win this and the confidence is in there So we'll keep working on it The fact that my thing on this road trip I need to think of is a number of laws that wins but you feel like the team.
