"I'm sure it was definitely. It was revenge with the dish. Best served cold for him and he was definitely eating loon on sunday night and then how about coal bassett coming in you know. He said he wanted. I asked him about this after the game. He said he's been practicing penalties. It's been him. Jonathan lewis san diego rubio who glenn the main ones taking them not. The rapids have had many penalty opportunities this season at all folks but he said he wanted it. He said he wanted the goal. And he takes it and he buries at top left corner no question about it. Complete confidence to see that given the year that he's had given the issues. These had with finishing. Dare i say the yips that he's had in those scenarios for him to stand up and be tall when it could have been a michael barr. Who could've taken. It could have been a jonathan lewis. Who's buried the one pen that he had the season. He was absolutely fantastic. Fantastic and then the last good thing. I want to say mark. This is going to come off a little weird. Maybe folks i thought. Kenny wilson taking. The right card was a good decision. Because i i think if he doesn't trip up who knew in that moment. I think he's in on goal for a breakaway. And i think. Danny wilson saying let me foul it. Let me see whether or not this called a red card or not and then even if it does. It's only one nil. Maybe we could do something on the counter and then you know and then nicotine and get a one one. I thought that was a you know it's like the you would rather you'd rather commit the red card and then go down a man that give up a goal kind of scenario. I don't know whether or not danny was thinking about that. In the split second the play happened or you know it was just accidental with him. Getting tripped up with who news feet or anything. But you know. I thought that ultimately ended up being a good play and then to your point mark. I think as soon as the penalty goes in. At that point. I thought the rapids. They knew about the situation. But you know mark if you watched it with minnesota being the domineering team against a bad opponent. They'd had the us when it's come to finishing. I wasn't able to look up the stat but there was a point. It was a double game we earlier on in the season folks to home games for minnesota there were red cards to the opponent and both of them. They were up a man for i think. Sixty or seventy minutes combined between those two games and the net score was nil nil in those two games. So i don't know how much the rapids knew about that or we're thinking about it but in terms of accidental or intentional scouting or otherwise. They did a offend tastic. Job of playing into minnesota's. Ptsd and there. Oh my god here we go again. Rupp a man..

"But I can look that up right now while we're chatting. Yeah, please do. I read that that game would be in Seattle and I don't know why that would be the case. But okay, that's the dream. No one knows what's gonna happen. The Yankees are at best going to get a one game chance to prove themselves at worst. They're going to get, I mean, at worst, they're out of there out of the postseason. At second worst, they're going to have to play a game to get into the game. There's nothing is going to come easy. None of this is going to be there's no cushion for them to land on. It's only a relative cushion based on where they were a week ago. But there's no cushion at all. Every game is make or break every second is terrifying. The bullpen could do anything, right? And based on this tortured season, there is a chance that absolutely anything could happen at any time. But I think it's safe to say in a safe judgment that even though the names in this bullpen aren't who you expected to be there when the season started when there was Dara no day and there was Justin Wilson and there was Zach Britain, right? You're dealing with completely different people. Jonathan Lewis, it hasn't emerged yet, et cetera, et cetera. And last year, you've got Britain and out of vino and Chapman in green. And it's different guys than it's ever been before. Keenly, when the Yankees did have Super Bowl pens, but this year's edition of the Yankees bullpen, I think is by far the deepest and healthiest and most ready to go into October. Now, healthiest again, we've got three days. Anything can happen. Healthiest, I'm not willing to make a declaration on and say they are the healthiest..

"I'm Adam Weiner it belongs to Thomas Karen aunt and the New York Yankees have blown a 7 game wild card lead in 12 games. The 2007 mets did it in 17. And they're the gold stain standard of sucking. Make sure to find us on Apple podcast, Google podcast, Spotify, wherever you get your podcasts, drop us a 5 star review along with the mailbag question. If that's something you would like to do, we'll be happy to answer it on a future podcast. Yeah. For everybody who said I was being too alarmist when I said the Yankees to watch after the Blue Jays and they were about to get swept, if they didn't clean their act up, there's a sweep without a lead held. Didn't hold a lead in four games. Haven't done that since 1908 in a four game series at home. 1908, long time ago. Haven't done that since 1908. That's how bad this Yankee team currently is. I got alarmist twice this year. I said the Yankees were about to get swept in a four game set by the Red Sox at Fenway after Chad green, blue, the first game, they vastly outplay the Red Sox in that four game set and still lost three out of four because of Red Sox BS magic. That's what happens at Fenway. Then I said the Yankees had to watch out for a sweep here and they got swept. So in games where I predicted the Yankees would go zero and 8, they were combined one in 7. Dunk on me, I guess? One win out of 8 is good? Great, one and 7. I said, oh, it ain't one in 7. Thomas Karen, welcome to the podcast. The cushion is gone. The season is not over, but when you lose Jonathan Lewis, I got Garrett Cole briefly and James and tayo in a couple day span and your offense can't hit might be a problem. Yeah, it doesn't help the morale. But even so, I think something is still wrong with this with this Clubhouse or just the organization. I don't know. I don't know. What are you talking about? What could be the problem here? I'm not surprised. I don't care. I mean, I do care because it sucks, but I'm not shocked. I'm not like, I can sleep. I don't have to worry about anything. Nothing spooking me anymore. We watched this happen for the first four, four plus months of the season. And now it's happening again. And there's no reason to think that a 13 game win streak would have cured all, especially when they were they were pressing all the right buttons and getting lucky. That's part of the game. That's what happens at times. 1908, man. Teddy Roosevelt was president World War I didn't even start yet. The whole moose party, America was polarized. "At dignity. Health sports park in los incon- in commerce city in carson california and they walked out with a two one victory over the galaxy. Some interesting lineup changes from both teams teach hernandez again unavailable hamalainen. A homegrown younger fullback was playing in for the one who fanja listeners and then we had a very interesting squad rotation from colorado rapids. It was william yarbrough goal in the rapids. Were i guess we could crudely say in a three four two one mark we again had another game banter while the lineup was dropping about what exactly this formation was going to look like an case. Law boubacar danny wilson austin trustee across the back. Brian was in as was calling. Warner keegan rosen. Berry was in a wide midfield role and then the front three. If we want to call it was mark anthony. Cain co bassett as the dual attacking midfielders. Jonathan lewis in the michael barr eos wide winger false nine role and so the rapids come out here mark and they are absolutely on fire in the opening. Twenty minutes of this. Some very very good pressure k. An a bassett were agitators for the galaxy. Trying to play out of the back trying to find jonathan lewis and jonathan. Lewis was frigging livewire. We've been wanting to do all season long anyway. That for about twenty minutes and then he was decent for like another forty and then he got subbed off. In the second happen any case the colorado rapids ultimately win a penalty in the tenth minute while the incident occurred in the tenth minute. Vr reverse the call on the field in the twelfth minute after lewis went into the box and he was clipped into in the back by rebel. A son who was found to not get the ball at all lewis goes up and takes it and pulls eight dare. I say mark christian pulisic against mexico style. Pk going up or ninety. Two the right he goes to the corner and proceeds shirts the crowd and all of his aiders. Jonathan lewis with another opportunity in the seventeenth minutes in which he gets into the box and then cool. Bali pushed him down and that was not called with the arm of from behind. Lewis was a little bit off balance. I thought that was for sure penalty. Mark i'm shocked at even though i thought it was a penalty. I'm shocked that did not go too far and there was another possible penalty. Shout in the twentieth minute. Lewis kind of off-balance julian arrojo tracking back. They kind of collide lewis goes down gets backup. Tries to fire on. Goal doesn't really get a whole lot and arrojo's there to stop the ball you know. Even though it was close to the goal line was relatively routine safe from the league..

"Save to tip it over the bar mealy again on eighty four minutes. Jonathan lewis gets behind the play ultimately ruled offside but lewis goes one v one with the keeper and then really just with a great intercept wins. The ball takes out lewis in the process. No way that was going to be. Pk even if it was on side lawsuit boubacar another header on it. Mark the ramp. That a bunch of chances. I i realize that there's a lot of frustration. So maybe we don't start with good things simply say where do you wanna start from. Last saturday's highway robbery of the call rapids by the absolute vanden camelia. I will start with a good thing. I think we'll it wasn't a it wasn't a good thing but it was a good thing which is You know one of the things we've talked about through the years Both as writers and as podcasters podcast buddies matt. I like the the term. Podcast buddies is the capability of a manager or coach to adjust at halftime. And i really enjoyed what robin fraser said. At halftime to Laura barra at the sideline when she asked him you know. What did you see in that. First half I saw the same thing Because you know of course. I'm just as much of a tactical genius as robin fraser. He said sarcastically. Which is that He noticed that were in. Kansas city was using spacing to take the rapids out of their rhythm. Right like sporting was really deep widely spaced and what that means for the rap is or what it meant for them that in order to stay kind of like heat from getting completely pulled apart In the event that they turned over the ball they had to be defensively. Close to those guys so when they retrieved the ball the rapids players were all over the field. They were widely space and there wasn't a lot of time to then kind of compact and make those passes so they wound up having to make really long passes which i didn't think really played into the way they wanted to play and robin fraser. Made that note at half time to learn jabbar on days. He said like their spacing is causing us problems. We're going have to adjust to that in the second half and so in the second half. They played differently and they dealt with facing differently. They dribbled more They played balls. they kind of play balls on in transition on the break much better and they wound up with set pieces So i think there was some adjustment in the second half that work really well. That was the good thing But umeda good point I i guess. I'll just shift right into my wouldn't say bad thing but like Realistically disappointing thing You covered all of the plays that the rapids Kind of gift on that. They shouldn't have the key ones were. The market has any case..

USMNT Announces Gold Cup Roster

"Right into a charlie. This is this is what we like to do. This is only like to think about. This is what we're looking forward to this summer after that. Big nations league victory from the us. Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time. We're gonna have to separate groups. There might be a little bit of overlap and likely that overlap is gonna come from mls players because it is the summer and you've got transfer window open you've got guys going into preseason camps trying to earn their way like for instance. He said brian reynolds not here because joe's marino doesn't generally play younger players so they want brian reynolds to beat at roma from the jump with the new manager to make sure he has a chance to get into the team otherwise he's going to be working From behind a couple other names in that scenario where cameron carter vickers gotta figure his cup situation. Eric palmer brown to figure out his cup situation. And greg said admitted our centre-back cool is a little bit light. So here is the roster for those of you who haven't seen it goalkeepers matt turner the likely starter. Funny story there. We'll get to that shawn johnson. Brad gazon defenders george bellew reggie cannon shack more. That was a little bit of a surprise. Donovan pines another site. Surprise but again center back a little bit thin per berhalter miles robinson a starter says greg james sands sam vines and walker zimmerman the other presume starter at center back in the midfield coma. Kosta general kabuchiko stand up kansas city especially jet criminal. Don eric williamson. Who was my must have on this roster injection you'll end up top paul arriola gerald decay. Nicholas keeney matthew hoppy. Who's in for the first time. Jonathan lewis josse artists. Give me your initial reactions. You saw this. Twenty-three you're thinking about the summer you're thinking about the task at hand which is both to win a gold cup but also develop players to push into the first team to get to the world cup. What are you thinking right now on this thursday morning for me. I'm thinking there's not any anyone that i'm particularly surprised about. That's one too. I think this group is is has enough quality to win now if mexico brings. They're a team. That's going to be challenged in especially with mexico hungary to avenge that nation's league loss.

"Have a real shot at making the World Cup you need decline in Europe I. Don't like I highly doubt that's the conversation. We're still two years out from that. Even being a thing I think Jonathan Lewis the rest of this year going into next year the goal should be to improve himself become a regular starter for the rapids bought for their get an opportunity with the national team in either. Begs the question. What's the chicken or the egg does he got a better opportunity with the national team? Then he plays well on MLS. A narrative is eighteen spots in wants to pay two million as opposed to the half a million right now or does he do really well, maybe scoreboard substitute for the national team and then get sold for three and that winter opens opportunities for him in. Europe. In the ways he didn't have in Leeds Bradford respectively. Thought I mean it's is you know the the escalating prices of a player based on their own performance possibility Israeli notable and I think one of the things that will see about. The prices certainly to low you said it very well for Jonathan Lewis with the question is ravaged. Hollywood want to sell them for like one point two is even that's barely any any improvement but. One of the things to point out or to watch the rest of the season for Colorado is whether he starts because he's been the spark off the bench guy for last season half the question becomes like what happens you know once suitors from abroad in Belgium or Holland or the championship are interested in Jonathan Lewis as a starting piece but the price isn't there because he hasn't been starting piece of the rapids therefore, he's been thought of, as you know. You guys will sell them for good price because he superfluous year plan is he isn't starting. Every game so it's not it doesn't put pressure on Robin Frazier to select him but it does put pressure a little bit on the rapids to sink more broadly about his role for the club. He kyw's regardless of whether they pumped him for a profit to afford team whether Jonathan Lewis is happy with the rapids and weather. His happiness is bound up in his starting is a question is worth asking. So you know he's got to continue to perform at a high level at work his way into a starting role with the club if the value is going to continue to increase on the expected level that you're veterinary that you're talking about. Yeah. I've heard from a couple of people familiar with the situation mark that just it's it's a function of phases of play and overall consistency. So when we've seen Jonathan when we've seen him come off the bench. It's usually in situations where the rapids are looking to improve the results. So to draw and they're trying to go for the win, it's a loss in they're trying to get back into the game and Louis. His main goal is you know stand on the touchline right at midfield, get the ball and go directed goal and either create havoc by creating a passing opportunity or you know perfectly back shoulder run. kyw's has a zoo breezy for him to put that in the channel and then Jonathan Lewis has great angle to shoot and tie the game up. not ourselves against us. In Kansas City, and so that's something that's pretty much the consistency. That's what we've seen from him either he run into the box, actually get the play going a shot for him rebound for somebody else or getting in there as the light runners we saw I think it was a second or maybe a third opportunity. The actually scored the first game of the season at DC united. You know if I look at how other players in a similar position to him market for taking. Diego Rubio Andre. Cheeky, playing in a slightly they're both more. Their best suited is the number nine role. We've seen them both wide positions in the four, three three or four to three one under Robin, frazier CD, Rubio track. Back regardless of where he's playing on the field to do work defensively to help break up plays or provide some form of pressure relief for the defense behind him I've seen Andre. Cheeky. Borderline track all the way back to the point where he sam vine are able to double-team Carlos Davila on their left wing. Right wing or L. A. Sees right-wing. I haven't released seen that either as a substitute or as a starter from Jonathan Lewis, and so he has one sure fire knockout punch. The is international caliber that he is able to do that in molest you would be able to do that in a lot of concha calf situations. We haven't seen enough from national team for me to say whether or not. He could do that in a Gold Cup against Mexico in Confederations Cup against a major European player or overpowered more talented team in a knockout round game for. In the world. Cup I'm not saying that he'd be able to do with Julie Green did against was Germany Belgium in two thousand fourteen. But I have not seen that same level quality at the same consistent level through ninety minutes or twenty minutes off the bench. Face the play whether it's slower buildup the rapids or trying to look at I mean he's a short guy. So I don't know how much I can blame him for not getting anything on set pieces. Given he's not taking the pieces and he's what? Maybe five four I I've stood next to him. I'm five and a half and I am taller than him. And I haven't really seen the other face play. So maybe that's something that he's working on that we just haven't seen because it hasn't been the right situational opportunity that could have been something that totally Robin Fraser was looking at going into the game against Vancouver Mark Third Game of the regular season like Jonathan you're starting we want you to do a little bit more work defensively and then We'll see if you can create opportunities when we get those critical moments. So maybe it was all situational but that is that is a question from the outside that we also have that I think hasn't really been answered and it's not GonNa be answered until we actually ultimately regardless of what's going on in training and whether or not he's making progress he needs to be able to do that feel. Part of why he left New York City F C, and why he was out of favor with Dominique durant at the time was because he did not do that or New York City have not seen that consistently for the rapids under any of a three managers, any of the systems that they tried to play. We see that more for him to win that starting spot at left wing position especially given his competition in how different a more well rounded player Nicholas Venezia's given how much the club is going to invest. From development standpoint and from a financial standpoint potential late in Brian Calvin and if Johnson Louis wants to be an impact player in a Gold Cup or God, willing twenty, twenty, two World Cup Qatar or have an opportunity to play. Play abroad at the club level. That is something that we are going to need to see a more. Regardless of. Whether or not he is content in his current role regardless of whether or not. He's happy with that or he wants to continue to grow in thinks that the best opportunity is less or going back to England or maybe pursuing a call from Germany that's something that has to happen for his hands the player on both to. Progress his career both club and International. Well said Mark I. Don't think we did predictions.

"These teachings h other well. First of all we've got it considering the propensity of Colorado rapids players to be good defensive. Midfielders are good defenders. A nil nil draw is almost certainly in the offing. Here I mean the the offset either deemed. Scores are are low. I think my best hope is basically Valderrama the Centers Sanchez. Creating a bit of magic in the first fifteen minutes of the game because other than that. There's almost no firepower on my team whatsoever. I really don't feel confident that anybody on my team can score irregularly can can can threat a ball and can shoot pretty well too but But I don't necessarily feel like Attack Wise I'm in good strangle. I would feel like the only other alternative to a nil. Nil Draw is a two nil win by your team And that's because you have two of the better kind of set piece maybe three if you can align it up set piece Forces you know you've got drew more. Who Scores so many headed goals off of corner kicks. You've got conor Casey in you've got Jack Price All of whom are really dangerous. You know kind of players From set pieces or from corner kicks. I feel like you're you're more likely to score goals than I am. But that being said like you have to get past. Pablo MASTROENI FIRST SO THIS GAME. Kind of bogs down in the middle of the third. No matter what this is. One of those games are Richard Fleming with very easily. Say they weren't clinical in the final. He says that a lot and usually what he means when he says that he economies it as shorthand cat phrase catchphrase but usually what he really means by that is Teams were extremely good at preventing the team from making that final pass into the box because they closed down passing. Lanes defended their men very very closely. And your my teams are both going to do a lot of it. They're just going to make it extremely difficult to make anything happen in the dangerous spots in the pitch like zone. Fourteen yeah I had an old friend who was really really good at chess to actually competes in some of the big tournaments. He's not one of the chess masters or anything mark but one of the kind of thought experiments that he always has me go through is think about things from your players opponents perspective. So almost if you're not playing time game turn the board around actually see it from their view in terms of how they would go about attacking you or how they would approach Your news if you're going to be a little bit more offensive salt my first thing. Obviously it's just got the ball to Paul problem in the midfield. But you know I gotta think nap. And the centrebacks are going to be eyeing conor Casey Hertie. I don't know in his time with the rap is the Jon. Spencer is going to be enough footage he might have been playing in the Scottish Premier League and this is of course assuming that Pablo Mastroeni doesn't break all Bravo in half in the first ten minutes of that game. I think I've got a good chance if I can around around Pablo and then maybe get one of my attacking players one V. One against you know late Thirties Carlos Valderrama but my other he option from an attacking standpoint is get the ball out wide to Sean Brown and see the Samat some magic but then he's lining up against Margot win. That's not a match up that he's like no when I don't think that's a match up. He would have been likely to win as a rookie. Let alone okay. Maybe right now. 'cause wins retired and has heart problems but in any case. I agree with you that there's a couple of curious could work out offensive options but ultimately like they're running into a brick wall defensively. That's going to be pretty tough to work. My best chance is probably go a little bit more defensive go to the flat four probably in any order seven. Jack Rice for Jefferson Rhino. Ed's I probably go Marlon Hairston for Shung or Kamara and probably go kaik Mara for John. Spencer and I just one to Kamara in case the all day and then just pray for them to get a foul opportunity or order. And then it's Casey Kamara Balbo Andrew. More in the box and then just hope that Jack Price can knock it down but I agree with you mark if we were to do the OPT assimilation of this. I'd probably go like fifty five percent draw and I think the next most likely at no more than thirty percent from US. Probably me getting up a win off of a set-piece late in the game. So we'll see if Iran the team that doesn't have Mastroeni. Cain win it at the death and be Hashtag fighting as I don't think a single member of the other than Hairston was Irwin on the twenty sixteen team mark. It would have been with right. No it was Irwin. I think maybe it was Howard Maso yet. So I HAVE MORE BIRCH AIA TIM. Howard and Marlon Hairston. So it's kind of ironic that I'm saying are offensive. Approach is going to be exactly the same as the two thousand sixteen Colorado rapids given. I have neither the coach and only three of the players. None of whom were offensive players for the Twenty Sixteen Colorado rapids? Okay I think I think that does is it about about it for the show we get out of your mark. That's it all right mark. Maybe we'll have gotten something in mysterious. It appeared up in their bank account or a certain check from a certain person What do you think our fans should do if they WANNA have fun with that money? Oh that's a great question. Well first of all you should donate to two locations that I think are are important before we get to the other locations that I think are important One is give your local food bank because lots of people who are out of work Have to choose between vying enough food to feed their families and paying rent and they've got to pay rents so you hit the food bank after so pay your give your local food pantry number two There are a bunch of different acts out there for allowing you to tip a service workers so all those waiters waitresses bartenders who are sitting at home because they don't have any work right now There are online tipping APPs for them in your local city. You should give to those. And lastly Now might be a really good time to buy yourself a really great kit from Fc or get yourself a really cool scarf A ice arrived survived the corona virus. For you.

"Lot of people have opinions about the H. E. E. Stadium particularly negative. Ones coming from players and coaches. Go there and lose as a winger. What was it like playing on a small field? And obviously you've got depending on which end you're attacking potentially dealing with two different types of services Acting to defend anyone place near to say not a great but I will say that and how we add something might gain that I feel like I definitely didn't have the or you know. Obviously being a winger who can run the ball and Giovanni outside I learnt playing inside because the pitch wasn't great pitcher so small. It was not a lot of faith and especially we used to play with overlapping waiting back especially under domain theron with Patrick not so much I would say but under definitely with a lot of overlapping wing so wingers of playing in ties up I definitely would say it was not an ideal scenario but it helped me learn how to gain a sense. I played anywhere else might learn or tried to learn so I think that's one aspect in how many but I mean this navy for sure. Yeah so I'm sure it's definitely a must be nice then me in dissident altitude playing a full sized fish now definitely I mean I think the issues one best pitches in the league. I think it's underrated. I think that you know no one talked about. I don't think anyone general but I think we always have very nice graph. I think obviously playing out to do this hard but I think the Nice Open Stadium. It's a Nice Area Island Wilson Let's I'm I'm always curious about the psyche of players. Going from one to another out. Their feelings about certain sees might be different the game at Red Bull Arena last year. I thought was really Cathartic Obviously it was a victory. I'm pretty sure that was robin. Her scheme as head coach But you guys go into red bull arena. You get a brace to win puts you towards the path to where you guys will qualify for the playoffs on Decision Day. Zoom Howard gets a winning Jersey you at the time. Still have any animosity. Towards New York Red Bulls did that victory field different given the opponent and your previous history playing for city. I mean I wouldn't necessarily say to be honest. I mean when I was at the you'll that that holds are feeling just because again I wasn't getting on the pitches my like I know actually funny like my best games came against the Red Bulls. I mean I play the game. I've played like the most but I think I was. I was getting my chances against the rebel. I was never like. We're going to beat that. Because New York end was I was always thinking. This is my way now. I these agent so I never really had animosity towards definitely I know in the circumstances that game I was just. I think I was just coming back from injury. Potentially and you know I definitely. I got a chance to start playing new Roy. I just wanted to show Robin that you know. I don't I can produce for you so I think that was really the the goal in that game was gonNA show myself in that game for Robin for the team and you know show that you know I can compete against the best teams in the League. I mean regular the one of the best defensive teams in the MLS. And you know it's how the game like that from the team. We had a great Dallas for me. The vaccine performance the year. I think was a good make some good football. We defended really well and we also were able to plan a calendar which we've been good at will said last question for me. I don't WanNa take up too much for your time. Jonathan looked at the movie you came out with on Colorado rapids DOT COM a couple of weeks ago. I picked three of them that I've heard good things about haven't watched more than its trailers. So no spoilers. I want you to pick a favorite or an order in which to watch them. So it's kill the Messenger. Twenty Fifth Hour in man on the Ledge Man So okay. We'll be let me tell you about my movie there so not all not every single movie up on that what it is. It's a list that comprise I used to live with a guy named Columbia. When I was in New York. He was a big movie. Guy Like highlight movies. There's so there's never been hurt. You'll come on y'all come walk with me so we would sit down at omay different movies so it's just a list that I am just other people said. Oh you should watch his mood. I put on that list. I check it off. 'cause I can wash out later time so not everything movie I walk. I've watched like sixty percent of the movies by some of those movies are just suggestions from people that have got the now record team. So we're watching so I have seen that you just said so. Can you repeat them again for me? They were killed a messenger. Twenty Fifth Hour and Man on the Ledge Man. I haven't seen men on a ranch. I've Seen Messengers okay. I think those out with her then the thing is I can't read the next two after that because I have met on reg. Yeah I believe that one. I think you might have the I mean twenty hours could allow see. That's all you really have a single senior from the ones that I've seen. So yeah not like like my my friend quantities like the really good movies right now until the methods like really really good movie. I think what is it only came onto my two thousand fourteen so he loved I. We love watching those type mystery. Movies drought drama. Cry Movie Right and they make you think you're not in the. I'll tell you right now. Movie that off that list that no one not a lot of people in for for me one of the best movies. I've ever watched a law-abiding citizen. He'll kill the messenger law-abiding citizen all al-Qaeda them up for this weekend. The Absolute Jonathan. Thank you very much for your time. Conceived say safe or to the day when we're back at exporting its park and in Post Game Media. I'm asking you about you scoring goal. The year nutmeg three defenders and curling a ball into the back of the net from twenty five yards out. Hopefully thank you and we're back. This is holding the high line with rapper and Red Money Smith collar joined once again by mark. Thank you again. Jonathan Lewis for joining us. I hope really enjoyed that mark. Let's get to it. It's been a couple of weeks since we talked about this. So why don't you remind our listeners? Again of what seen rabbi looks like all right. My Ball Club is looking like this. So we're going for two three one as is the custom amongst proper rapids coaches back in the day anyways a my goalkeeper is Matt pickens right to left across the back line. It's marvelous MARV L. Win treebeard NAT Berkshires Kyle Beckerman in Santa Vines My defensive midfielder are Pablo Mastroeni and sitting deep and being the Reggie Sta Carlos Carlos Valderrama L. P. himself My three attacking midfielders At the right mid it would be Roy weatherly My Center is Chris. Henderson and my left midfielder ease be sent they Sanchez. Finally up top at Stryker. I've got Omar. Cummings my options off. The bench are basically a whole Bunch of defensive midfielders Zero Sam Cronin Ryan Mullen and then to strikers Hor Head Deli vowed as a junior ago My backup defender is Bobby burling and my backup. Goalkeeper is boomer time. Buna Kundal who you got for your ball club team. Red Red also be lining up any four six hundred one. There's but there is a pretty easy shift I could go of. I gotta go flat for or two in goal is of the Secretary of Defense Tim. Howard backline from right to left Arco Sake drew more and Marc Burch at the holding midfield spots. I've got Mark Chung and big Red Jeff. Loretta wits from right to left in the midfield. Three I have John Spencer. Paul Bravo ended Shorn Brown. I can easily just take those midfielders in flatten them out as opposed to having. Bravo the ten. He'd be a center mid and then march to write mid as opposed to being in the holding midfield in the double pivot which FM Reynolds ended up. Top is conor Casey on the bench goalkeeper. Clint Irwin Defenders Dan. Goggin St Tricia midfielders Jack. Price many Belushi and Marlon Hairston and my super sub striker is kyw tomorrow. Okay mark those are teams. I know we Kinda talk about over the course of the last couple of weeks how we went about selecting players how we can actually do against each other. Suppose we were able to take on all thirty six of these guys get them in their respective rapids crimes play game at Dick's sporting goods park Ooh I guess this is a fun question. Mark which irritation of the rapids? Kit Is team rabbi suiting up. Wow that's a good question. I don't know I I'm I'm Burgundy Guy. I think the team looked weird and it would have the what the blue and white stripes for a couple seasons may also had green I like the green but the crests they war at the time they have. The green was kind of ugly. That was like the original soccer ball crest with the black and white soccer ball which looked bad. Really Bad The wave crest looked better. I think or maybe I'm mixing up the two. Maybe the wave crest had a soccer ball on it. But I don't know anyways but I'd go I'd go with like the An early Burgundy Kit or my. I think my favorite kit was two thousand eleven. Had A a a very deep electric Igloo Second Kit might have been twenty two thousand thirteen but that'd be Mike. What would you guys rock? Um Well I think I gotta go the ones that I'm thinking of Mark. I think you're going to be inspired by what I would know what you would remember. From a Colt standpoint the centrebacks the rapids wearing as members of the rapid. So if we're going with what Marcelo Balboa went I think we gotta go? Old School agreed. Tops with black shorts. Don't know if that's GONNA be Molester. Us Soccer Regulation. Because we're going to have to dark jerseys coming up against each other and I think just for fun I just I think just for fun mark. I should be allowed to say that drew more is GonNa wear the the cream with tassels April Holes Jersey and Mike. He's going to be so out there. That average is going to know that he's on the green tea but I will. I'll leave that up to drew. He absolutely has veto power. He wants to go old school. Green play next cello. That is absolutely is choice. But in any case mark we've got probably four best strikers goal scorers in the history of the rapids our respective teams. I think I've got the better defense. I think you could probably use fun. Things in midfield and depending on which date is I could have opie rare smail. Emily all starts him. Howard middle the Road X. goals against hearses expected X. goals against him. How how do you think this would play out?.

"College players versus other contacts. I think we have a really really good. Dan might be something for a lesser. Take a look at it. I guess it's it's some form of working on tactics together so on that note. I know you mentioned a little bitten a couple of weeks ago. It was still kind of in development. The ZOOM MEETING WHATEVER COMMUNICATIONS. You guys have been working on. What is that like you guys working on anything tactically right now? I think if I've been doing it we've been doing a group setting so defenders with that how I fought for words because obviously we work as a collective unit different. You know what I mean like. Some of the video that they're going to do is not going to be the same as the packers it's just breaking down again. Did for ways that we can defend from the front different ways that we can attack highlight things you know and I know that you know obviously getting to see things now up close and rewatching rewatching that you know just ingrained in your head so obviously it's GonNa be exciting when we get to get back on the field and put it together now however long day but I think that's the most we really can do right now. Just just watch. Try to remember his engraving. Our heads combat We have it absolutely. I guess how much how frustrating is it? Or how do you deal with kind of the? Obviously you can do film study during the normal week but then not getting to practice it or be able to. Do you know the muscle memory aspects of even just any drill that requires more than one person is that frustrating. Or how do you overcome that an oath for the most part I mean after Labor could go to the field and just end work? I kinda vote on myself. I've been going to challenge the cost. Sometimes you don't need a really close so we go but it is hard but I think you know obviously condemning kidding. It doesn't taken away the momentum for myself clear you know. I thought I got off to a good I. I think definitely you know but I think it's also a mental pass them like I think the worst like whoever win when we get back into whoever they say the most focused in these times you know who was actually quitting work right now. The video session. You know who doesn't take the foot off the pedal and I think we're GONNA see now. Who Mentally are the top teams? You know what I mean because this. This is a roadblock and now we have overcome though I think that is just how whatever we can do to deal with it and how we come back to how whoever comes back the strongest essentially. Yeah absolutely off of that What are you guys players doing amongst yourselves or not? Doing kind of help maintain the mentality. I know I was reading an article or it might have been listening on. Npr saying you know we should really be labeling it physical isolation in that social distancing does not mean completely cutting yourself off and obviously there's you mentioned you know a mental hoarded suit aspect to this challenge right now on whether it's Robin or you or any of the other players everyone I've spoken to of the club has been really adamant that the environment right now in the locker room you know. There's NO EGOS that Steve is above everything. There's jerk sir. You know any bad chemistry. Everybody seems to get along. There's no real clicks like you might see it other. Mls keys on. What are you guys doing to help? Maintain and develop that given the circumstances. I think I think part of the things that are teaching yoga sessions and our our cooking on Monday. I think it's just a it's just have fun with each other kind of laughing England each other because we're not seeing each other and I think guys are some guys who still high going to talent or hang out every once in a while I was you know. When circumstances permitted can't always felt like we go out to the field sometimes and trained together. We can try to stay sharp so you know what I mean like. I say everybody in constant contact. I hope I thought the cool bath is pretty often Andre. The other night actually. Because I'm staying here by myself. Yego invited me over. He was like Oh WanNa come for dinner. Let me know what it'd be like. You said I think all around this is different. Diversities in our team Everybody's want raw connected like Ross Hutch. Pretty Wild At some point I try to do a good back history of each player on the rapids when I speak to them so I wanNA visit some interesting tidbits through your career prior to coming to Colorado. Um You were playing at the level in Florida and then had an opportunity with the Chicago Fire Academy and then you ended up at Ryota. It's an academy in these in the notes million ended up signing an initial contract with Bradford city. And that's a really unique kind of half zoo. The signing your earth broke contract relatives of some of your contemporaries have those opportunities come about. And what attracted you think? Growing up playing in the level right pled Florida. I'd never played in that. I think it was very hard to get opportunities because no one ever taught me because I play you know. I think that was one of the big issues. You know being able to hold you through them with you know it was definitely like holds players back so I think for me There was a coach. You saw me play when I was in Florida. This Guy Eric. The worked for Red Bulls and he is very close with a Larry Sunderland. Who was the coach in Chicago Fire? He's out FC Cincinnati. He's like the I think he's the academy breath tonight. He currently Or maybe the technical director actually but Coach Chicago Fire. He called her says. Hey Larry Headquarters and he basically came to watch clan. I got that opportunity to go Chicago train with them and they were like. Whoa or we want this kid and I was able to go right into their team. Our plane Made some friends there with and your clothes. Fc Cincinnati Georgie. Mahala vigil on my team and me and my very close then. Obviously he plays in the national myself. So it was an unfortunate situation. What half wise the leaves so? I can't speak about that but there was that had happened. Not In my control. At all that caused the residency programs. Shut down the the about six of lived in their program. They just aren't you and they had to send us all back home. So that's when I went back home in West on this and I want to go train with them and it was like basically like a school in England but basically they were forming a team to go overseas the place on game like Exhibition Games. Then I was able to. I make the team and I was able to go over to the not say Bradford City and some other League one category re economy teams in England. And that's when Bradford Soggy and they were like wait. We really liked his kids and they wanted to sign me up Actually had tried a pro contract and that kind of got lost in translation but I signed with them off your girl but it was just like a scholar contract. That's how it went over there and I was there for a few months setting that I thought it was best comeback like those college play and I did a minute work here. I am today in Colorado Berg. Is You mentioned that? That was kind of a recent is going to Europe. We're going back to your something. That's a goal or something that you're thinking about her. You know years down the line for your career hundred percent. I mean I think I think that would be Olympic coming off age limit changing as well. There's a Gold Cup next summer. I think that you know. I think Colorado leaving but it's continues to try to keep playing and chipping away And developing for sure why the left Europe you know. I think I think the reason why I decided leaving or when I had when I was there. Training with that team is because I think the Senate wasn't necessarily meant her young American per session. I guess you could say and the time I don't. I don't think I was pregnant. I had the ability to play there. I don't think I I moved there when I was seventeen years old. Eob Your pin passports. When I was younger than he wasn't quite ready. I think you'd really finished high school yet so I wasn't quite ready for that yet so I thought it would be best if I came home and went away for college and got used to that or I pursue professional career. You know and I definitely think that one semester in college you only six months how learns actually grow on my all the on my own and I think that helped me when I got ten generation Adidas. I knew I wouldn't be on my own again. Playing Crutchley wherever. I went and I was ready for that and now I think that those experiences like on England going Chicago obviously. They ended up not long since. But I can go with our help to build the wall said and I think certainly in describing your thought process that shows a lot of maturity for where you're at right now and certainly a lot of maturity for at those times when you made those decisions in dealt with certain circumstances. I guess on that note since you're still in regular communication with with Gregg Berhalter in the U. Twenty three staff Right now obviously. Circumstances for this season are extenuating and outside the control a lot of people. What are their goals are assignments that they have for you for the season to continue to make progress got another call up and somewhere between gold cuffs? Maybe being on the Olympics next summer. I think there's actually only one goal that the cost then. You know their goal that they need that I just need a consistent player on Colorado rapids. The you know their plant is that. They told me that they believe in this. Next year that I can break in and potentially fighting potential spot on the national team starting and they believe they just seem to be consistent that the the main goal was breaking into Colorado being a regular for me. Not My number one goal is of course. I WANNA help that can but breaking in and try to irregular next. That's the goal and that's what I want to accomplish for me that I need to do that so I can. You can sit in the national team and you're looking at will said let's go to your sign. Matt New York City. See I remember in? I think it was the first week of training. That Robin Frazier was gene. You compare him to To Patrick Vieria Vieira in terms of his presence. And maybe he is approached some training sessions. Obviously Patrick's playing record speaks for itself. World Cup winner us on the invincible of arson on her mind. Money had he stayed at your city at C. You guys probably when the Order Shield twenty eighth. What was.

"Having maybe fifteen foot commute to to work as opposed to a fifteen minute or fifteen mile or something like that on what's been communication with the national team like right now they obviously don't have gay film to be watching you guys and you know at least right now. There's some uncertainty regarding whether or not cancer World Cup qualifiers later. This year are going to happen. Well actually some Donald Rumsfeld with one of the coaches already know just like the previous camps and you know obviously. I've been enough quite a bit of champ now year so just going over some with them. And the U twenty. Three's you know 'cause obviously Jason's on the same staff right so there's been a lot actually able to drink down. You know what I mean but for the most part we just have a little funny chat that you know for the most all the players that are in the poor central players that are in the pool so some there's some new faces and obviously we have a group chat. There's like daily riddles. That they send van. We're doing like a little competition so they just want just just trying to be on the dollar or anything like that so I mean for the most part of course again. There's individual meetings from top. I I I've had my meetings and discussions and anything that they can help anything they can do to help. That's that's fantastic. Would SORTA video games? You playing are you. Is it more fiedler. You Afford Nice Guy. Neither except like call duty okay. I played for how like legit our ally I never. I was always a video games on our younger but since I joined professional ranks I play video games watching a lot of reading on my medicated. We'll just trying to get better watch more soccer or you know like I was this show gyro but ever since the Corinthian hit I started getting big again on video. Games your call. He's always been like again. I I like to eat. But 'cause do you think like is just take my world go play war zone play with my friends in Florida and there was some of the other guys on my vehicle. Rubio Eagle Mosquito Anomaly. Whole Bafta they all play Courtney forward is also Klay legit hours a day like five. The WHO's the Best God player on the rapids right now that one. I don't know I have actually been going with them playing with my friends from back home but I heard Col- pretty good I I know Yego Diego's these I mean everybody's pretty good to be honest like I mean we're all playing it much now so I don't think I don't think there's really a weekly. I definitely think if we had but tournament like Colorado College players versus other contacts. I think we have a really really good. Dan might be something for a lesser. Take a look at it. I guess it's it's some form of working on tactics.

"Chat calar second few other staffs in regular communication with the players in everything. And getting you guys out of out to you. What does the Home Gym of House? Lewis look like right now so I have some band right now at three different kinds of that van Fifteen pound weight vests. I have two twenty five dumbbells twenty-five Wait Wheel Fifteen. I'm twelve wait Dumbbells as well but that's again my Yoga Mat and that's what Ramilo fled right now and then I also bicycle okay. No treadmill or do you have any stairs in the place to run up and down or is it just the bike for Cardio saw thirty company licenses saw that and I have My bicycle that I've been using as well. Okay let's see. That seems to be a good hall given the situation. What's been communication like with Chad or anybody else on the staff to check in regarding progress on your physical fitness or anything that needs to be adjusted with your release. I think we're pretty much in cotton contact with every day about different things like dieting workout in our obviously doing the zoom meeting three times a week so not all the work that we do yoga on Wednesday. You team workout on Friday and then on Mondays You. It's like a scene cooking or get togethers so to say hello to everybody. Starting off you know. And then on Thursdays I are meeting with the Coaching Staff. Doing video footage and each time to better ourselves individually and as a team. So we're meeting with some form of that almost every single day but for the most part we're in Turkey childhood every single day for the most part weather in our group chatter individually. That's excellent than walked me through you know. Let's say you know today what's your. What is your daily routine other than talking to me consist of. And how's that different from? Let's say training at D. S. G. and we'll say at ten. Am training time. What normally when normally would you be arriving to the stadium? And what are you doing until you even? How does that compare to what you did today? Well normally training eleven o'clock so I think we derive before ten but I mean we go into training eating breakfast almost everything like our lives and he said I is g but today almost like we have all eleven o'clock this morning so I actually woke up this morning at eight. Thirty eight forty five. I had a phone call meeting with the US national team staff because they're saying such a lot of their players as well. So I had a phone call meeting Greg this stuff and then we have seen that eleven o'clock and then Kinda just off doing out there are workouts are just chilling. Some guys kid. They have to look out where I live on my own by myself. I just kind of play video again though through the dad coke since I've been here oldcorn seen so real for the most part I mean honestly new been doing like a few things in the morning and the rest of the off. I guess the only difference is that we're not getting a car and driving. Obviously planning time with our teammates. But we're still trying to get as much work and as we can individually. Yeah I understand I can definitely I can see where there are some benefits to.

"Sl isn't safe as mostly a writer like other than Jeff. Carlisle AS ESPN. Everybody's feeling it. In everybody's expendable if you are if you give your employer reason or they see fit to do some art anything. That's really sad for the state of he already dying and the celebration of the death of newspapers the news outlets journalism and in our personal non-professional field on this podcast journalism. Yeah I I think Sports illustrated's weird twists and turns over the last nine months. Have been well documented. If you're interested in it you should look into it. Because they got bought by a company that basically buys companies for the historical kind of saleable assets. You know the the covers from the nineteen seventies that are cool or some of the intellectual property that comes out of it but they weren't. Sports illustrated was bought as a name and a throwback and not so much as a this is a marketable news organization going forward so to that end. I don't think grant was going to be with sports illustrated for much longer anyways. I don't think it made a lot of sense Especially after you know He started doing things like branch. Like first of all writing books but also branching which he didn't need sports illustrated. Ado But second of all branching out and working with Fox On the World Cup. Both the women's and the men's the last couple of times around Sports illustrated to some degree. Probably NEEDS GRANT WALL. More than grant wall needs sports illustrated It's nice to pick up a paycheck. There's no doubt but I think he'll be okay. The way it went down was pretty ugly as you mentioned And it speaks badly of the sports illustrated management company Maven In a really bad way but I also think you hit it on the head where he talked about. How if if you mistreat grant wall prints the king. The most prominent American saw he is a member of the American soccer journalist. Mount Rushmore. He's on his. I'll be even like more strident. I only as anybody could touch them. I mean nobody knows. He's written as much as him. Nobody is as well published. Well regarded well read and well-paid And rightfully so dudes been there forever in his goodbye letter to SL was beautiful. You know basically he said like I've been working here since I was twenty one years old. This was always my dream job. Like that's a pretty cool way to say you know Anyways I think he'll be fine At but it also says that Any soccer writer is is in bad shape right now but you know I mean. We're at a point. Where like what is it Sixteen million Americans are unemployed so I can't feel especially bad for soccer writers when basically I feel bad about roughly ten percent of the working world who are all kind of sitting at home trying to figure out. What's the next move all mark? That was a lot of sad stuff. We'll get to something fun and happy in something with somebody who is reflecting. I think certainly growing in maturity and a fantastic young player who colorado rapids fans are certainly sided about yesterday afternoon. Folks not sat down. I sat down virtually with Jonathan Lewis. We talk about what his daily routines looks like right now in the equipment that he has We talk about the rapid setting up zoom zoom yoga classes zoom cooking sessions as well which is really fun mark on and then we also get into a little bit of his history. Jonathan has a really really unique relative to his contemporaries kind of path to professional soccer from playing on you team in Florida where he wasn't going to get a whole lot of availability to know. Kinda miraculously ending up with Chicago. Fire that burning out for reasons that he couldn't That he didn't really have he couldn't effect in his own fall. All the way to kind of a whirlwind year that he spent in the middle of Yorkshire in Leeds and Bradford Mark and then ultimately we have some fun talking about New York City. And how all of those experiences collectively put him in a position where it was kind of perfect you know You know oppor what is it. Markelle luck is where opportunity needs preparation in each of these moments and experiences in Jonathan's life as a young soccer players a teenager Nassar professional kind of prepared him for last year coming to the rapids and certainly in a position to where he's got a chance to be a starter on the team in twenty twenty whenever games resume and he has some really big goals for next summer and one of the tournaments that hopefully the United States men will be participating in so listeners. Mark and I'll be back to finally put a bow on our team. Rabbi versus team read all time rapids vests eleven. But first. Here's my conversation with Jonathan Lewis. How are you? I'm alright so I guess first of all I Know Robin had some availability. A couple weeks ago. Now he was talking about how the club was setting some things up with.

"They're doing good job of managing the current circumstances and the league now needs a process to have a large number of rapidly available quick results tasks in order to resume play and then maintain quality control throughout playing games. And everything I just. I don't know how that's possible. Mark and I know it was a couple of weeks ago now but lollygag their federation officially was able to get out equipment for testing for all of their players for all the teams in the first division. Three clubs openly said. We'll take them. Were giving it to our immediate local hospitals because there's a bunch of other people that need these tests from more than us so I mean at some point. You really say that you know a league that first of all should sports teams doing this. When there are elderly people there are people with asthma. There are diabetics who need this stuff. Rapid p way more which I think for me just further pushes out the time. One thing that you know off of US kind of spitballing ideas for what? Mls could do if it ends up being like or back. Maybe in August and we got to be done by December that other leagues or dealing with market. If this really does go on longer. Mls will eventually have to deal with. There was a conference call earlier this week. Mark on the. Nhl's been doing regular conference calls with some of its players and personnel. And then one of the star players doughty's defensemen and assistant capt into the Los Angeles kings basically said. Yeah just with everything that we've had and not being able to have ice time. I don't know how you come back and have the season without ruining or truncating. The twenty twenty twenty twenty one. Nhl Season as well so something that the NBA's having to deal with having to deal with is at what point do we continue to push all of our resources in efforts to salvaging the season at the risk of ruining at the risk of it not working out and it already ruining next year? Emily certainly isn't there at this point yet. We still got a couple of months before the respective throw ball. Leagues have to come up. But I mean if we're still having this conversation in September October I think Don Garber and company gotTa be thinking like let's set it up just to see if we can open up training camp and preseason in January other thing that I kinda WanNa talk about mark not not directly related but I mean in another slew of just bad. Pr Moments for us. Soccer in there to run their twitter out and checks those notifications on. Us Soccer Shutting down the Development Academy granted. Most of the talent that you had coming out was either leaving the continental us or opportunities with club teams in Europe. Or are being churned. Out of the academy's Mark Your thoughts. I mean this is the biggest fire that. Us Soccer is having to put out right now but it doesn't look good. Yeah I read the I read the two releases the USDA and And MLS put out regarding MLS is planning on having their academies play some sort of League and they invited non mls academies to join in. So if you're a refugee club although the the question being whether this season any of those teams are going to get to play at all. I mean my son's The League that we play in color in Colorado in in Pennsylvania there's a western Pennsylvania Association as far as I know they've given us like zero guidance There's been no. There's been a suspension but there's been no cancellation of games and the season his like moving towards its end at the end of. May so there's not much season left to kind of salvage at this point but they also have canceled. It says fascinating But it's it's going to be the same for for the development academies they they didn't they don't really have They don't really have much to play for the summer. Time is usually for tournaments are showcases and they're not usually when you as FDA is playing. There are some June some big June matches that usually the USDA would play their championships. But clearly. You know they're not going to be able to have a championship considering they didn't have half a already. So it's a it's a really. It's they're having the same mess that mls says which is like. How do we truncated season? But at this point it was like well. We're just not going to have one and we're going to disband completely and there's not a future It's very confusing. It's all leagues nationwide for High End. Teams. I'm not even talking. The top top end teams like USDA That we're talking about but Even regionally it's kind of the wild west because every state and region has a slightly different setup Out here in the eastern part of the United States it's organization called the E. C. N. L. is the highest division but below that there are regional divisions and then below that there are state divisions or or or like for western Pennsylvania. There's one so it's a little. It's a little convoluted in. It's a little complicated and good players. Come out of some of those lower teams anyways You know you don't necessarily have elevate to the best team in your region In on route to going to college I think another development. That's problematic or scary. Is that just the other day? The University of Cincinnati killed men soccer And I think this is something that we're going to be. Seeing soon as colleges get hit financially and their sports citizens get hit financially. They're gonNA start cutting. Some of their sports and men's soccer is always an easy one to cut. It doesn't make any money for schools. It's a it's a loser and you can't offset it with a title nine so you have to office. Number of women scholarships as men's college has football and is giving out. Eighty five men scholarships you. GotTa five eighty. Five women to give scholarships to usually. That means you can't give out twenty three men's soccer scholarship so long story short The Corona virus quarantine is having some really adverse effects on soccer. That will really scramble things and we will not know what youth soccer and college soccer are GonNa look like for another year really rambles. The everything for another year to the degree that it's GonNa be harder to identify talent and Talented players are going have a harder time getting games. Yes absolutely mark. I think at this point for us to know what it's GonNa look like I remember because I'm listening to a lot of economics focus. Podcast that are talking about this. And looking back you know economic indicators as they might existed one hundred years ago with the Spanish flu and certainly looking at albeit in a different context. You know everything that went on during the two thousand eight two thousand nine housing bubble and kind of the consensus of a lot of the stuff. We need things to calm down. When you stabilize. He needs to flat mccur but then also get past the curve. Like the point that we were into where we weren't even troughing up we need to get to the point. Where on the mirrored and trump down than we need to wait for probably next spring early summer for the vaccine to be made come out and be positioned in position where it's commercially available for a lot of people. We mass distribution we mass people taking and then we need another year to make sure that we're okay as far as like virus You know mutations in everything in reacting to the gene and then once we get to that point made SARS cove to stamp point will be stable and then who knows where we are from sports landscape so it still could be another year or two before things stabilize. There's still that you could point to indy. I could get on a conference. A zoom meeting with every single GM CEO owner and technical staff member in the NHL Mark. And ask them. Are you still feeling the implications from the Cva Lockout of the twenty twelve twenty thirteen season and I would say at least five a representative from at least five of the thirty two teams in the NHL would say yes. So I think at this point like there's there's a non zero possibility here market like years years of progress and growth inflation analysis. Been Undone these couple of months and it could take a decade Kurtzer recovering. I think to your point about the potentially looking at pro rail mark I mean there there will be clubs that existed in twenty nineteen that are as of right now already projected to be debt. And I think the longer that this goes on like I shuttered what this means for the US L. Their structure in their pyramid grow can stability and everything that they had going on for them. Because this is killing so many of those entities that just were not in a position from a revenue standpoint to take anything less. I mean you know. Obviously who knows what this means from? Td contract standpoint because all the US L. was under ESPN was under ESPN. Plus I'm GonNA assume mark her. The Pittsburgh Hounds ownership group to stay interested. They needed that ticket money every single Saturday night. And I'd certainly say the same thing of the switchback. Were still working on building their New Stadium. So who knows what it means in the lower division let alone all of these hundred million dollar billion dollar ownership groups analysis that you know are. I'd say other than maybe National Miami who were anticipating some revenue this year are going to be able to withstand it or at the very least have a damaged asset that they can sell still sell. Offer money to another billionaire. Who wants to get into the game on other banter talk that I want to get to Margaret where we get to really great player interview that I had yesterday. Wall is no longer at sports illustrated. There's a bunch of bencher if you guys want to go on twitter and see the comments from Maven the ownership company that Purchase SL awhile back. Maybe a couple years ago as well as ran on his own twitter account. They're spent some finger pointing. There's been some disputing as far as the facts are concerned on how things went down has been floating out. Supposedly with the number was for grant walls salary can. I'm not gonNA stay on there because I think it'd be. It'd be almost responsible. Bring it up because it hasn't been confirmed it's been refuted as far as the number is concerned but in any case mark Grant is a respected at what he does. He brought a lot of value to SL. That was I. Think a depreciating quality of a sports outlet in the last couple of years and he made I thought some reasonable constructive criticisms of the leadership and upper management in suits at Maven at everything and basically because of just that the entity could not take them him being that him shirking them both five million internal meetings and on some level out there for public consumption in social media and basically he's out zone entity and in society and economy to where the corporation can throw in individual under the bus or absolutely Rakim to the polls. But God forbid you speak up a remotely hold the boss Man Accountable. You're immediately outed. And this speaks to a bigger issue. And we don't need to go down a rabbit. All of our political opinions on unions or anything mark but in any case with a this was partially triggered by the by the ripple economic apax on sports due to coke nineteen ultimately if grant wall..

"It is Thursday April Sixteen Twenty twenty thirty fifth day without major league soccer and the day after the thirty first anniversary of the Disaster Hillsbrough. A tragedy of police mismanagement cover up and stadium design claimed the lives of ninety six. Liverpool Supporters Happy Belated Easter and Passover to those who are celebrating. I hope that things went well. Given current circumstances and I hope that this gave you an opportunity to reflect on your life and its purpose and how we can help each other in these trying times. Mls is increasingly pessimistic about the April twenty fifth and may eleven targets. There are rumors swirling that he li could be pushing back a potential return day to June eight. Us Soccer Federation has shut down its Development Academy and sports illustrated soccer coverage will not be the same going or without grant. Walheim joined now by the Charlie Meth. Then to my Stewart Donald. A man who doesn't want to see your social media posts about homebake leaven bread and a man who definitely doesn't want to hear about how good might be was this morning. Rabbi Marc Goodman Rabbi. How was Passover miles a lot? You just hit us with the water candidate. I think the funny thing is like you think there's to talk about over corona virus quarantine and yet. There's a lot of stuff to talk about so well done mattio. Good yeah the Bacon. I bet you it was really good. I actually have Turkey. Bacon in the fridge. Exciting We today was the end of Passover Or about an two hours ago so we got Veggie dumplings from local Chinese place because trying to support our local businesses The kids didn't seem to my son loves Matsu Bri which is basically Mozza French. Toast you so Kamata in Egg and a little bit milk and you put cinnamon sugar on it and then you cover it in you fry it and then you cover it in Maple Syrup and I think it's really good. Iggy thought it was really good Somebody on Jewish twitter referred to it as having the consistency of soggy cardboard. Which isn't totally wrong. Soggy cardboard was really Sweden aggie. So I don't know I think it's it's a I don't know we're done. It's it's good It's hard to tell the difference between Passover and the rest of the year when you're home and you pray in synagogue over zoom it's like I I wake up in the morning and my wife says what are you. GonNa do today. I'm like well I'm GonNa go to synagogue. And she goes okay now. It's like I point that I'm like well. It's three feet over in this direction. I just moved my computer over to that wall. And then and then we're in synagogues. That's you know that's how it is. That's where it's at. How about you matt. How's the social isolation on working? It's okay I can. I can show you all the Mike. Atalay the extent of the corentin beard. What do you think mark? He's getting there. It's kind of A. It's kind of a jaw line beard. It's interesting you just not grow anything above there. Did you throw the cheeks? Are The later arrival cheeks. Are the Stephen Girard. Frank Lampard to the starting eleven. That is my facial hair so the neck. Oh growing in the key thing is you've seen for me certainly is that it will grow out and then has the leg. You saw that a little bit with the beard and obviously the goats e that I was rocking her. You know I wanNA say until about this time last year fourteen months ago or so before I trimmed that up so from a coverage standpoint. You know. Everything's there in terms of where hair is gonNA grow on the neck the Chin Goatee the so patches for the most part where it's going to be you know word about three and a half not quite being. It'll be four weeks on Monday if I'm not mistaken but then. The cheeks are late arriving both in terms of color and thickness as well. So we'll see if those grout and obviously we're looking at at least another twenty something days to get to May tenth. And then I don. I feel like with everything. That's going on mark and certainly the meeting everything that's going on in some of the local municipalities you know. Toronto's not allowing or entities or groups larger than. I think ten people till the end of June. I think Mayor Garcetti had a bunch of meetings with relevant people in Greater Los Angeles area and basically the consensus out of that meeting was. There's GonNa be no sports in Los Angeles County or concerts or anything. Through the end of the year I am increasingly and I think especially with the comments. Don garber earlier this week. I'm increasingly pessimistic. About the May tenth return to play. I'm increasingly pessimistic. About eight thirty four game season I think any shot that we had of open cup and some form existing is on pardon the Pun folks but on life support right now and I think right now mark realistically looking at what things. You're going to look like in terms of how long there is a season and does it exist in a way to where we can really call it an MLS Cup or is this something where it's like. Mark. Let's make up a special tournament give it. Its own name and put an asterisk on it forever and just be guide. There was soccer. Yeah I think that's well said and I think Trying to figure out what format the what what this season takes. This is a really good. I've seen some interesting Little suggestions I thought this is neither here nor there but like I had the thought that. Like if you're ever going to tinker a little bit with like you know. Ussl PRO Ralph. This is probably a good year to do it where you play like a small tournament That drops team from US L. League one up and brings a team from USF championship down. Because you know so. Many teams are financially in difficult straits. Anyways like a lot of them will prefer to do something. That'll be more financially. You know obviously that it has nothing to do with Melissa season. But you know trying to figure out how I'm lost plays a season. I saw suggestion that everybody play home and away in their own conference And then they they. Just get rid of Cross conference on US on other suggestions that everybody just plays each other once for the rest of the year minus the two games. I've already played see the World Cup Group Stage Idea Mark I. I know that it was floating around as an idea. But I kind of think that it's such a crazy. It's it's definitely a crazy idea that is predicated on. You're only going to have like you know two months for a season. Yeah like that's if you're going to have games right you'd play a home at home. You'd play group stage but it'd be like home in a way right. It would be so and so the way that I saw was speparate. The conferences random draw so I think for both conferences it would be two groups of four and then one group of five everybody play each other round robin and then I think it's all the group winners and then a wildcard team like most points out of their plates but then have to be points per game. One see one group will have two more games because there's one extra team and then basically that creates a group of four for the two conferences. 'cause you the three divisions of the three groups a wildcard team makes another round robin or potentially just one game in the highest seed gets home game or something and then that winner of that group the second round of groups from the conference winners. I'm doing a really bad job of explaining it. And then those winners play each other in. Mls Cup MLS. Cop Is predetermined neutral venue. Which I think is a really crazy tournament. That's like that's like something that would be fun to watch simulated on fever how to work out. Then I would take no bearings of in terms of judgy any team in terms of quality. Though this interesting things that are related. It's I'm sure if you listen to different sports podcast right now. They've already covered this but I haven't. I haven't listened to any sports podcasts. For like weeks all I've been doing Marquez. There's nothing else to do now that I finished eiger in Sunderland's ally dyson do. Yeah I I just don't have I mean I'm just like I'm around my kids all day long so it's like you know it's gotta be visual. There's no there's no quiet time to go running and whatever like I'm with my children all the time so I don't have any podcast time so anyways might two thoughts and maybe you've already heard from somewhere else or maybe I'm creating brilliant. Original thoughts is like one. It seems like people are already talking about the fact. That like there's GonNa be no spectators so question one for major league soccer and for all the league's is How is it is not like? When can we start playing again but like how much Football can we play without anybody? Attending the Games in person that would be profitable in any way shape or form right like so they wanna be able to fill the stipulations of their television contract. Because at this point there's almost no way that fans are going to be gathering we're GONNA be if we're GONNA have soccer between now and November. We're going to watch it on television while social addition thing and then the second question that comes out of which I think is a really complicated question which I'm sure leagues are dealing with in Boardrooms. Right now is what happens when another player tests positive. You know like you you back to square one. We're back to May twelve or back to March Twelfth Rigo Bear of the Anti testing positive. And then I think if that happens a second time mark I think at that point you call you call. Twenty twenty awash signed thing that fee. Right that's crazy that like so right now. We're at the point in America. Were about a million people have had the corona virus. Something like that. We're roughly in the area where there's been one hundred sixty thousand cases reported two hundred thousand cases but the reality is that's vastly underreported because so few people are being tested so there are estimates that is between half a million and a million people. That actually have it. So that's like one and three hundred thirty people right so then you extrapolate out. You do a little bit of like back of the envelope. Math and you know the odds that a nother professional in any sport jets it over the next couple months or high like the one in three thirty. That's basically two players major one player in major league soccer players Major. This is destined to happen so like shut down the league again. Because because I mean you're right the Rudy Gobert situation was if you saw like You know that the Utah Jazz played. I think one or two other teams in the intervening time each play to other teams who each played two other one other team before the next thing which meant that they had contact with eight teams. You know a total of two hundred fifty players in staff within a very short period of time the other thing I was gonNA say Is is just the to reflect back a thought that I haven't had in a really long time which is you know it it was the NBA deciding to shut down the league. In my humble opinion which kind of shutdown America I mean that was the point at which and to to be a little bit slightly opinionated here but like they made the responsible decision that force everybody else in the country to start making really responsible decisions. It's kind of amazing that Adam silver the NBA. Commissioner was the first person to say like the responsible thing to do here is to shut down our business and then everybody else started going. Oh it's real now and then it was. I I remember that Marcus I wanna say that was like a Wednesday night in an. Mls has ended the next day and then we got to like Like it would have been early morning. Us Time certainly early morning. Mountains kanter time was that final call the Friday afternoon that all of the primarily cad with all their leadership and everything and at that point everybody was looking at it. Like every other major league shutdown. If you're remotely thinking about playing games tomorrow like you just have no regard whatsoever for the safeen will being and public health of your employees your players your staff and then your fans as well so you know I. I don't know what happens if somebody else test. Positive at this point mark. I don't know how you control it. Don garber had a couple of really good media sessions and the McLaren another statement that you can find on their social media channels and MLS Soccer Dot Com folks effectively saying that..

"Why Iran the numbers on his MLS career and basically all I got out of his seven hundred minutes was we don't have enough minutes to really deduced? Used anything important or certain about what he's done if you look at his record in the friendly there are a couple things that stand out number one four winger e produces a lot of key passes so in twenty eighteen. Twenty nineteen four weaned leaned gum. He had I think I'm pronouncing that right. I might not. I don't speak French at all. He it's spelled G. U.. I I could. I'd say Guin gamp but I'm almost certain that's completely wrong. So so anyways he had one point seven key passes per game in two thousand eighteen in two thousand nineteen for his French team By comparison the Colorado rapids in two thousand eighteen that their best player on on the entire team for key passes was price and price. Had I think Something like two point three keep asses per game At next to him was Diego. Rubio was one point four so the dude produces passes puts the ball into important spots. So he's he's a good he's a good wing passer the second thing that he does really well. Is He dribbles at defenders extremely. Well he had one point four dribbles per game in a Eighteen nineteen one point six game in seventeen eighteen. That's basically better than almost everybody on the Colorado rapids or close to that At one point six Diego Rubio had one point five that would make Basically one of the top dribblers in terms of getting at or passes guy. So those are the kinds of things that you want at at the wing. And that's what Benazir can deliver the other thing that you should know statistically important about KAZAA is that in his entire career his entire soccer career. Twenty eight years old. He's never had more than seventeen. Hundred minutes Seventeen hundred and twenty seven minutes in a season guy so your average good solid winger for an MLS team is GonNa put in some routine twenty two hundred and twenty six hundred Admin at two thousand right. You're going to go over two thousand minutes. I don't know if it's because of injury I don't know of because he was never good enough and they wanted IMSA. Come off the bench He's never been a an out and out every game starter in the French league. In the French League compares once you get below p. s. g. and Olympique Lyonnais. He's never been a guaranteed starter. So it's a really interesting question on what the rapids see of him Do they think he's GonNa Suddenly magically get twenty five hundred minutes for them do they. Suddenly he's also never had more than four goals in a season. It never had more than four. Th cynicism see doesn't produce eye-popping numbers and so that's slightly worrisome. You know he's not we're GONNA Trans form as a Colorado rapid into something. He's never been before. He's not going to exceed all expectation at the age of twenty eight years would he. He is which probably is a guy who can come on late in the game. Kind of like Sebastian. To in two thousand sixteen and and do a job for you would get that late goal. A Wing version of Alan Gordon. or He's going to start the game and you're going to bring on Jonathan Lewis as your late-game Game closer to to help it out. That's what he looks like right now Whether he's worth all the money you just paid for him whether we've just sapped a lot of the teams excitement and the fans excitement and energy because they really we all really want a new number nine number ten And also also there's some serious problems midfields rapid tab zero defensive midfielders after Jack Price. It's it's all a question but that Things like we got a guy. We should be happy about the guy we got. You will probably contribute next year. As long as he's healthy. Yeah no good stuff on all that front their market. I think maybe the one skill set that I'm looking at especially permits passes how much he's able to do things from outside of the box. And so if I look at the other guys who I would say are have been and wingers in the past for the Colorado rapids certainly Jonathan Lewis on the left and Sam Nicholls Center in that role. I think with the you know I won't say anything more about it. Just plug like you mark listeners. Go right now hit pause or after you finish this podcast. Go read Joseph lowry from the athletic about the tactics and everything from what the rapids are going to do. But in the fourth one center for it so the question that I have there is Rubio. Playing out. Wide is Rubio out competing with Kamara for minutes because because you only have one center for as opposed to in the four to three one where maybe somebody can be a little bit more underneath or two strikers top one of them being a traditional number ten and then one of them being your underneath guy but if I look at Lewis and Sam Nicholson Nicholson's a decent crosser. But he also likes to cut inside. On his favoured left foot where he had that absolute screamer important last year. If I look at Jonathan Lewis his first priority is blow by the immediate depend there and then cut inside and recap vic but again. That's it's also cutting inside and playing the ball on the ground and then there are a lot of ways in which these skill sets are what they were doing as traditional forwards playing out wide amish cheeky and Diego Rubio were very much. Forwards masquerading as wingers Aurelius wide number. Nine in that regard so there is no outside crosser that you have your like. There's no Steve Toronto on this team right now and so can be that where you've got to have a little bit more width from the guys in the four. Three three or like what you were saying. Mark if I'm talking about the three-man midfield right now right now without Venezia the first three guys on that list for playing in the four three three or probably Jack Price is right that in an Sharpie I'd say for all thirty four games pending a yellow card accumulation game or two from him. I would say Kellyn Acosta as well. I think we both have some reservations about what his twenty twenty season looks like. Your next central midfielder is probably Nicholas. Mesquita maybe Kohl Bassett there. And so there's just not inherently doesn't give you a whole lot of with in terms of somebody being able to spray out or overload on one side inherently from a speed standpoint and so if I think about Nicholas Bene- say and Jonathan Lewis Mark for example getting the opposing team's right back on an island together. They're going to eat that up against anybody other than Stephen. Betas sure. Probably Stephen Betas Trim right now as an unrestricted. Free agent isn't on a team as most amylase teams are opening up training by the end of of this calendar week so I like that from a positional standpoint in a sense that he has a slightly different skill set then the rest of the wingers and obviously has done this at a level. We haven't seen from any other ones. Obviously Sam Nicholson's played in Scotland administrator. Jonathan Lewis it took him Dell's time yet in Colorado for him to actually be an out and out starter at the club level so I like nat but like you. I'm a little bit curious as to what this means for other personnel. Gis this mean Kamara and Rubio or out competing four starting spots at the centre forward role. Are we going to see some Andre Cheeky. Play in a couple of different roles. And what does this mean. Does this mean that. Jonathan Lewis is a super sub which. I'm totally totally fine. With but for the sake of his development and everything they needed in twenty nineteen and right now being in camp with the United States. Men's national team in January Cam. I would assume assumed he would want you and expect to starter and so I'm just wondering what that means for his development given how much money they spent on him remember. This was ten months ago listeners. They spent in total allocation money. I want to say it was right around nine hundred fifty thousand dollars so if you're just looking at transfer fee. They spent a third more on Louis than they did on Nicolas Benza and obviously contract situations and youth and buying potential as opposed to a guy in his prime just evaluation but just in terms of an investment for the long-term. That's just something that I'm really really curious about. And I'm not sure we're going to have an answer until these guys. Actually getting training and Robin Fraser is your tries. A few things out and see what works but I wouldn't be surprised if the forwards who've played on the wing mark move and we have depth at the number nine role to allow for rotation or for Chi. KAMATA sometimes be a thirty five year old man when the rapids have a couple games in a few weeks stretch. I wouldn't be shocked at off. One of these guys moves is to some more of a hybrid midfield role. Where Shinya she did a really good job defensively as a wide player last year to where one of these guys has a little bit more more midfield responsibilities or is just the white guy who stretches the field in that midfield three with Jack Price playing a little bit more centrally in Kellyn Acosta being the double pivot pivot in that? Mark your thoughts on any of that. I don't know I think I think we've covered it. Pretty well It's it's an interesting thing to to make these moves into see how it all comes together. I think worrying about the order in which players get signed throws everything off. So you know if if this guy. The last guy on the boat the twentieth player on the roster rebuild great we got another winger And the other thing is that a couple pointed out. Even I should admit is that that you know saying that everybody's GonNa Lineup. left-wing is disingenuous inverted. Wingers thing and Robin Frazier Anthony Hudson and even Pablo the master Wednesday. All like to flip their wingers after fifteen Or thirty minutes you know I saw Jonathan Lewis attacking down the right side of the field. Sometimes even though he's a left-wing swing so you know you never know how they're going to roll these guys out. We don't really They're they're gonNA make room on the field for a a lot of these players to get out there and and you know this is probably something to worry about yet. Venezia is in addition. He isn't a DP player. Were everything's everything's fine. We're all fine here. How are you yeah? No good stuff on that. We've beaten just the we've talked about all things general mark. We've got a couple specific if it questions that I think around these things out so we'll go through and will officially start now ask Hgh L.. So I want to get to the final question that we got be. Email from Rob Bela's on I'm and that was Can you guys take a stab at a way too early. Preferred starting formation lineup so again. Let's assume this based on from from the Horse's mouth that were going four three three if MLS Cup was tomorrow January Fifteenth Twenty Twenty. And you're the head coach of the Colorado rapids. Who Are you starring? Where in the four three three formation? Oh my God what A. We only have four midfielders. So what kind of question that Martin I got the email we got the question.

"How do you know that he's not going to bring a fullback who wants to get wide and at the same time if he has Tyler Adams in west and McKinney that he can choose from. How do we know he's not going with a double pivot or putting someone else in there? Maybe as one of the quote unquote to number tens who covers that ground instead of Liam so build me that midfield in an ideal world, and generally things will be built around. It you come into a real qualifier or you come into the Gold Cup. You play who right now who do you think the best group is you have west McKinney who according to reports is getting sniffs from the biggest clubs in the world and is doing the same thing Tyler Adams has done where Joe's in his field. And like you might be the best player out there right now. I mean, the be it's been a while. If you're if you want me to build the you really want my best eleven if we had if we had a qualifier tomorrow, build it. And then we'll go to the brick. Stephon angle. Stephan goal. I guess I would go with Brooks and probably long. Centreback just trust him more than try Zimmerman. I guess I would go reim-. And I think I would go Lima as a fullbacks I would have I would I would go Adams in the Bradley role. And I know that there's reason to think that maybe he can't quite pull it off. But there's also reason to think that he can I would go with mckennie in in the role Don role. Yeah. Yeah. I propose centrally. Are you gonna that's the question? Right. I think I would think I would have pulisic. On the left inverted. So he can go directly at goal in the way that that Jonathan Lewis did I would have probably way a on the right playing the role that Corey bear. Did I would have sergeant as the center forward if you had to win a qualifier tomorrow? I have a probably have Josie probably have Josie. I don't know who I would have is the number ten so piggybacking on this. If I'm looking at this and while you're going with I would have legit. I would have legit. I would have thought legit was better than Mehinovic George got the goal. He's really good off the ball. He doesn't complete meaningful passes. And he's not as good receiving the ball. I would have as as the number ten maybe flip flop with a little bit. I would have Bradley in there, and I would have Tyler and Weston ahead of him in those two number, quote, unquote, number ten, and you would just go crazy with the press yet and Bradley can cover all the space behind read where Tyler's pressing and fill in where he needs to and can cycle possession. All right. That's eleven go another game in a week. So do this for another hour. We're going to break on the other side inbetween I should say Adrian heath forward whisper. We'll be right back. Ten minutes with Minnesota United head coach Adrian heath starts now. Coach. How's it going? Good terrible cough. From that. I'm okay. So what you're saying is you're gonna spread that over to you guys..
