"He, uh Published a list of the 40 editorial employees who have left the Tribune of During this June offer that Alden Capital, the new Sorry Alden Global Capital, The new owner of the Chicago Tribune. Uh, Still, these buyouts they're called, can get X amount of weeks. And plus X amount of weeks pay for the many years you've been there or the lack of years. Here is a list of the 40 people who left. Some some of these names you'll know, but some you will not know in which you must understand is Not all the people with bylines, uh There are many more people who are responsible for putting out a newspaper. There's Jonathan Berlin. There's job ISC. There's your mouth. Brinson Alley Brumback. Jeff Cerrone, Steve Chapman. Alice Attorney, Jennifer Day least the Los Santos Liam Ford. Georgia Garvey. I mean Glanton and Herrera Greenspan. Lauren Hill, Dan Hinkle, Margaret Holt, Steve Johnson, John Kass, Eric Kroll, Hannah Leone, Todd Lady, and I'm Lou Catch. Ian Mitchell House Napoli. Tom Palmer, Mary Ellen Pad, Malik Melody Po Tempeh, Scott Powers, the anti A Prince. Stephanie Reynolds, Phil Rosenthal, Shannon Ryan, Bianca Sanchez, Mary sh Meek, Chris Sosa, Heidi Stevens Able your eBay Laura Webber, Chad Yoder. And Eric Zorn. Many of those people are my friends, and many of those people had been my friends for roughly the 30 years that I have been At that newspaper. Some of them have been there a little longer. Most of them have been there a lot. Less. What strikes me about this whole thing. There's a lot of sadness. There's a lot of there's some whining to that. I just I found distasteful. There's an interesting piece, uh, in the Washington Post and by Paul Farhi about mostly about Mary Schmick. But it is mostly about, uh, he uses Mary as an example of of, uh it's sort of here's the headline. The legendary Chicago newspaper columnist bids farewell. And wonders who will be left to tell her city's tail. There will always be people here to tell Chicago's tail at me happy in a newspaper, but it would be in some form Nestor Gomez. The the guy just had on the storyteller is telling Chicago story. Uh Going to be a little fractured. The guy brings up the writer brings up He writes. This Chicago newspaper columnist is a deeply evocative phrase. It recalls characters both real. Like Mike Royko, the bar haunting, tough guy whose alter ego, so let's grab Nick Channel, Chicago's ethnic white working class. And fictional like the scamps of the front page and the Senate Mary Sunshine of the musical Chicago. In the early editions of this, and I find it incredibly ironic that This writer referred to, uh Mike's alter ego as slats, Drobnic. And they had to run a correction, which I think will stand as one of the most fascinating corrections in the history of American newspapers. Mary, he writes, was the distinguished end of this trade. You want a Pulitzer Prize? Mary was a great writer and a nice nice person. This guy says, But columns like Sh Meeks are becoming nostalgia items while people still write about cities, the classic metro newspaper column. Is fading as fast as sound of a bundled bag. News from dropping on the walkway each morning. That's all well and good. I don't romanticize newspapers as much as many do. That is probably because I'd lived through the death of the Daily news. Okay, so every march 4th when it rolls around, I think of March 4th 1978. When we all of those of us who worked on the staff and those of you who read the paper suffered through the death of the Daily News. We all worked very, very hard in those weeks coming up, too. March. 4th also happens to be the birthday of the city of Chicago. We all worked hard. We wanted to go out proudly. And of course, who. But Mike Royko put it best. And he wrote this. Not the last day. By the day before the last day wrote in part When I was a kid, The worst of all days was the last day of summer vacation. We were in the school yard playing softball, and the sun was down, and it was getting dark. But I didn't want it to get dark. I didn't want the game to end. It was too good. Too much fun. Wanted it to stay light forever. So we could keep on playing forever, so the game would go on. And, um That's how I feel. Now. Come on. Come on. Let's play one more inning one more time at bat. One more pitch just one Stick around, guys. We can't break up this team. It's too much fun. But the sun always went down. And now it's almost dark again. There are many of us who are still staying with the newspaper. For reasons that are varied some financials, um emotional Uh, The final edition of the Daily News carried the very jaunty headlines so long Chicago. And it carried a story by the hero of mine, MW Newman. Was his name, and he was the most stylish writer might call them the grew supporter of his generation. He wrote this Writers newspaper ends as it began Momentous Book of life. That story isn't over. Just the daily news is part of it. A newspaper dies, But newspaper ring goes on. Life goes on the sequel and all the tomorrows after that. So, Yeah, it's sad. It's sad to lose. Uh, some voices. Um That you are familiar with that have become part of your part of your life and We will see we will see what the newspaper becomes in the wake of Those people leaving in the wake of my staying in the wake of other staying. It's a fight. I mean, they're not gonna be remember Sumner Redstone, that millionaire idiot. It was You know, probably 100 years old when he said this, but he in thinking of the new world, he said many years ago, he said, this that he didn't see newspapers lasting. Uh, more than two years. Newspapers. You know, it may not last more than two years, but the news. Think of the news. Think of the news. Maybe you're reading. Maybe you're listening to this on your phone. Maybe you're reading the newspaper on your phone. It's going to go on and it's going to keep going on. And I'm going to be part of it as long as they'll have me. I don't know what Alden capitals plans are they have a lousy reputation, but we'll see. You know, life goes on and on. Thank you for listening today. Carol Felsenthal. About her book about her brother. That sounds like it has the potential to be a really fascinating book about all the entanglements of that, uh, of that family and industry. Gomez is, you know, he's the voice. He's the news. He's the immigrant story. He's the American dream. We're coming up on July 4th and, uh Look, Mr Gomez storyteller dot com Carol Felsenthal Amazingly doesn't have a website Christophe Flores..

"Analyze 168 hours. 1554 tracks 74 artists and 61 unique songs We're talking about. The songs that are played by radio at this time of year and with this is Corey rumor from the Chicago Tribune. Data reporter. Good evening. How are you? I'm good. How are you, John? I gotta admit, though, I've heard Jingle Bell rock so many times. I know. I don't know if I can hear it again. But it's the girl. You're so sure. Why not? I know you're going to hear it again. I can guarantee you you're gonna hear it again. In fact, I can guarantee you you're gonna hear all these lines in your article again, over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Yes, exactly right. In fact, you are all right. I was just noticing here. Let me read off. These are Some of the top Christmas tunes of all time. Jingle Bell Rock. It's the most wonderful time of the year. All I want for Christmas rocking around the Christmas tree. Have yourself a merry little Christmas Jolly Holly Jolly Christmas. Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer. Holly Jolly Christmas again. Jingle Bell Rock and Felice Navidad. They're all very familiar Titles. Who have been all of those titles have been re recorded about a million times by different people. Ever since it came, they came out. Which strikes me as being the Well, it's It's unique, I guess. I mean, there's no other example that I can think about the top of my head That equates that. I mean the jingle Bell Rock by body Holmes came out in 1957. Right. You still want to hear it over and over. It's comfort. Enjoy. You know that we're all searching for this year during the pandemic. We all want to hear something that's familiar to us. I guess we'll, of course, but this is You know? You're Can you explain your article, too? People who are listening now is to instead of me trying to work my way around all this data charts and analytics, um Conclusions, etcetera. Absolutely. So I deal with a lot of data is is part of my reporting at the Chicago Tribune. And usually you can always shut up for things like elections there Corona virus or trying to go through our archives, and every year I have this idea. I would love to do this, and I usually don't have the time to do it. And somehow I was able to convince my editor Jonathan Berlin that this was totally worth my time to sit and listen to it many hours of our local old Chris. This format radio station matches W L. A tfm on band, So I thought it would be interesting. And I was. I was kind of like you, like, Wait a minute. I'm listening to this station, and I'm hearing the same songs over and over again. So how often in my hearing John? So we came up with the idea of trying to listen to his much of the first week of programming for that station, as we possibly could. And then for the hours where, you know we were trying to get some sleep, we decided To go with the station on their website. They have Ah, recently played list of songs, so that's what we used in tried tried to boil it down to hear the songs that were most popular during that time and kind of we reached out to some experts to see how those aligned with what people around the country want to listen to, and It was actually kind of fun. One of the experts I spoke to him. He referred to Frank Sinatra and Perry, Komal and Bobby Homes. And some of these traditional favorites is quote sweater. Artists can't agree their sweater artists. What is that? I'm not quite sure what the connection is, but I mean, obviously everybody wears sweaters at this time of year. But what specifically about those Individuals were. Well, that could be, you know, being Crosby, You can have a car to get in and maybe a pipe in the corner of your mouth For all I know, I Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's that's the image that it brings to mind. You know, like Christmas and All those songs that were from that era. Which still which still Are played by the original artists and also cover versions. By every format on Earth Now, you know, I don't how many different country artists have Recorded these songs that we're talking about, but I can guarantee you it's a whole bunch and many and it's apparently very competitive. For newer artists who come up with newer versions of these songs. It's apparently very competitive for them to try to get their version among the rankings to even get played on the radio stations, But so we way took rocking around the Christmas tree is an example. Which is, you know? Yes, Brenda Leigh, But there's also Olean Rheims version that was played on the station so much in Amy Grant, and I'm trying to remember Words that I can't remember the years the LeAnn Rimes version, which would be the latest release. I'm not even sure, maybe in the nineties or the early 2000. So we're still talking about a song that at least a decade old, but yeah, we just want to hear the originals or something close to here is, you know, I think Well, I think what people what are what artists are trying to do. And I'm going to say what? Say what? We're gonna take a break. Forevermore from the Chicago Tribune dated reporter in it. Deep analytics. Christmas time playlists will continue at 7 20, WGN. You.

She had a short called Lars and Jonathan Berlin friendship which you know is probably like an edgy short-film that was like you know made a splash at some festival and she's like, yeah, I, speak real universal truth and now like because of Hollywood she stuck making stage in Christmas and the Christmas ball like. That's what happens if you want to know what happens if the actors. You know the male directors come out of Sundance make drastic fart and then the females they come out they have to hallmark movies. No Man Well Amy Barrett. So she's like well Garcia's like well, obviously, we wanted to be collaborative. It's our baby I mean with you directing it congratulations Amy Barrett you win. We're declaring that and we're prophesying that. But at the same time, really, ultimately what we want is just to be in the room with God just wanna be in the presence of God, really, the cares of the world and feel like you need that break Hewlett or does it falls away perspective changes? And so but thown Asli informed. Brad. We ended up using a new producer. He's actually mixed a few albums, but I got him Jeremy Griffith, and friend Jonathan Berlin.
