"And even more so. My my neighborhood has strange climate because as you know or may now i live in the western part of town and it. You know it's it's fifty two degrees most most days but it's warm and that's really only had for that had put i put in a putting put pins in many things. Yeah you wanna talk. Perhaps about a new operating system update on my list. How are you doing. I'm sorry. I'm kinda plowing through this because i'm still getting together. I barely had time to make a coffee because ran late. It's my fault are you doing okay. How how's life there in your neck of the woods. Yeah good everything's good. I don't have any Let me complaints for you. Who listen is is what. I always think who would listen. I don't think. I don't think anyone we no one. Yeah they you know. Another one of those goods distinctions. Listen versus here. I got to put that on. The list started keeping track of all my words where i like to make a distinction. And that's a list was words. I hate words. I love distinctions and differences And what was that one. What was wanna just said Where i i don't know Oh you know. I guess put distinction versus difference or as dared i would say difference vivant viva las vegas. Yeah set. my soul on fire is what he said saying about that context to september cancer. Who'd listen listen versus here here my list so far yeah i. I don't even need to put a pin. This was a few. I think you're going to now. Okay right well. It was the first one. It's always the first thing with me. Yeah no costly versus expensive. I didn't i wasn't expecting now on that one took arguably my arguably my biggest one You know a lot of these. You're going to surprise you the listener. Hello cost versus expensive. Does cost a lot of money or does it cost too much money for what you get right. There's a difference. Yeah now now. I'm gonna use cheap in two different ways. Thrifty versus cheap. Is that person thrifty. Or the cheapskate. Right right and then. I'll i love this one. Now this is this is this is this is. This is not a distinction without a difference or a difference inexpensive versus cheap and now that's different from costly versus expensive. It could be the near mirror version of near mirror. A that's a good episode of star trek inexpensive versus cheap. Right right. did this not cost very much money for something. That's kind of valuable or was this. Let's say cheaply. may you got reasons versus excuses. They are different. Oh i know that one. That one's important. I think that's important. This could be a whole series here. So maybe she put a medium sized pin in this house versus home office versus work. Lucky versus fortunate is it. Is it that. This person is lucky. Or is it that. This person is fortunate. Because there's a difference there generous versus careless distinction versus difference in listen versus here. These these are these are these are concerned student which me what you say. You know what. I'm saying Trump trump beat dan. Well my name is merlin. And i got an excuse. M my main reason is i like your caboose. It's expensive not cheap. is it thrifty yours. Cheap costs your expensive. Get sorry if i'm a creep. Lucky versus fortunate. What can it mean careless. Versa generous worst. I've ever seen thinking versus difference. Is there any difference. Darah was french and he lived in france. That's really did you. Is that often freestyle. No i i wrote it a real. That's why i was late and thanks for starting late yeah no. I had to write a rap. That was tangentially. Semiotics about jacques. Derrida you can have a construction site but can you have a deconstruction site. Am i right. Anyway it's great to be here on the wall. Thank you so much good to be here. I'm not on the show floor. I'm here in my upper office. In quick tower ooh battery. I'm eve rooms on it. Running low seventy six point five degrees. And i got no fans on because i'm podcasting. I don't want to have excessive knows muslim. I'm going to try new microphone. I think i've made an error. I bought a microphone. I'm going to try. I keep buying microphones and going back to the one. I've got what what microphone. Are you on which one that. You've got the one i've got. Yeah and the one that i've used for a while is the elect and we're trying to do is off the down electro voice s e. fifteen. I have a spreadsheet about this. Yeah actually i may have found a use for air table. Because i think. I'm going to use that to my mic test today Yeah i don't know. I was kind of a rash decision. Oh so one. I use ari twenty by the electro voice company standard broadcast mike in most true radio stations across the country. Yes more than an sm seven be yes hasn't seven is more like musical studio recording. That's what jon morgan roderick uses. Yeah and i. I've got two or three of those that i use pretty consistently. They're great Really a be. Yes and the one's gonna test out side by side. Oh so the new one that i got. There's a lot of buzz in more my slacks about well. Not my trousers. Okay here we go trousers versus pants. That's important. I wanna write that down. Yeah 'cause you know you say the wrong thing it's like you know fanny Versus bomb bag. You know what i'm saying. Oh we just say trousers rousers versus pants. Yeah yeah electricity. Sorry twenty one. God is the sure. Mvp seven which i think is a step bowed down and sideways. Because i keep. I used to use the seven be okay. I reviewed this one I did i wind. Mvp seven. i talked about a lawn to the youtube review of it too. Good mike is it. Yeah it is and what's nice about. It is in the software stuff. Yeah i mean what what i like about it is that it works fine as a as a usb mike and then if you want you can plugin as acceleration to preempt and get something pretty pretty close to the sim seven b. And for me. It's definitely worth the tradeoff because Especially for people who maybe don't want to invest in a pre amp or who don't want to have more elaborate setup or who travel around -actly cute and small throw it in his suitcase but i don't know i mean you know god i don't need any of this stuff is my voice. Sounds like a broken reed instrument. I don't think there's you can't mike reed instrument and make it sound any better. You know it's like renna says you know sachs's sachse sachs's sacks you know And so i'm gonna try that The seven be now. do you do that on. What are the settings here. I've got it by okay. Okay okay as i'm going to be on the butt of the mike mike's but you've got the the slaves it's kind of like a dip switch. Yes okay so five. Got it set. You know what this is boring. We'll come back to this. We can talk about maxine anytime you want okay. I don't know much about him. And i don't know how to use them i think. Gosh how does one say. I don't know what i'm allowed to say right now. But there's There's this software ways to do compression and limiting and that's getting better every day you're talking about with the mike software just in general just in general. Yeah sure there's apps that i use that have interesting emergent features that allow you to do some very cool stuff and i'm going to play with but here's the thing you are not alone..

Used fitbit's kendall's iphones all of this for an exchange for a target gift card which is just crazy so you may get a better deal on ebay or facebook marketplace. Do some research before you do it but if you look it up your item online and you're like yeah you get the quote and you like it. They're gonna send you a prepaid shipping label for free so you don't have to haul your stuff to the stories but in the mail and there goes and then you get a target gift card love. It never used discipline. Yes guys listen target. It will steal from you. It will take your money before you realize it so you really do. You gotta be disciplined your budget. You got to know what's going on and if you're going there for retail therapy because you're like oh i've seen it get away from the kids like listen no target because you're not spending so much money so short term happiness in that moment where you want some new makeup or i'm going to buy some new clothes or whatever yet it's gonna feel good in the moment but it's really not going to give you a long lasting peace. "Fests where it's needed for tend to agree. I look at him as kind of more of a daniel. Thais is more willing to shoot. Which is both bad. And good depending on how you're looking at. The shooting percentage of what you expect him to do in terms of carrying an offense which is hopefully not that much I don't think he's going to start much more than maybe occasionally for for some spots particularly if he has not to as more of a small five which kind of then brings into question you to buy parker grant williams on suddenly we have. We have a little bit more work to do There's been some other things going on that we could also talk about that may be playing a role or maybe just feeling that's going on but at the very very least i think unguaranteed seven million dollar salary for the season after the be potentially very useful Whether you wanna cut bait included trade. Yeah i think i have a similar take. It's not a particularly interesting flyer. But perhaps it's meaningful but at the earliest. The salaries is not unimportant. So let me just do some bookkeeping and after if there's anything either view wants to say about what i have to say for it. Taco bell is joining a very full court in cleveland. The cavs it's a pretty strict ordeal but it isn't guaranteed trumpet. Waters is going to milwaukee he will be convenient for a spot in camp bucks rewire wire the bucks so addicted to signing the celtics bench. Guys i don't understand this very strange. They must have seen maybe celtics twitter's over the players and the bucks falling for the celtics. Also sign jon morgan. I think i hope that. Right and luke coordinate. To camp deals. Morgan laid with the jazz on a two way most recently and he played with romeo link. Indiana to bookie. I wanna talk about the coronet. Go for just a guy. My man luc cornet the clean of corn. So it's interesting that they signed him to with nonguarantee can't deal. I think they obviously want to see what they have. Their luc cornet is a guy who played reasonably well given the role that he was in for a good chunk of last year. I think the kind of a loop this back to the conversation you're having earlier adjusted the presence of cornet on a non-guaranteed deal. It does kind of suggest that the celtics might be thinking more about some of those stretch. Five options on what they're kind of doing on his roster whether they can be moved for other kind of value pieces So i'll be interested to sneak. Because i actually would like to keep grant williams on this team but i also don't necessarily know that it would be the best for his long-term development to be here so i i'm interested because i think the coronets non-guaranteed signing implies to me back you might be jumping into one of those slots either for grant or jabbar issue. I think is much more likely to potentially be moved in a separate deal. Something watch yeah. I don't disagree. And he's not eligible. Unlike this john morgan forty two spots. Because he's got more than four years experience so bet did it would signal something potentially afoot with with the raw construction. That tees we're running out of time here so just quickly. Some few small things around the edges. And then we're going to talk about the truth Gerald christian to be the coach of the main celtics for me the right clause. He comes to boston and maine by way of washington and the nba two k. Twenty two game. The s oil video game is going to have all thirty p. a. announcers from the league which is kinda cool looting. Td garden's own. He palomino so folks who love to hit the sticks sealed era familiar voice when he played two but perhaps the most familiar of all for all of us would be that of all tier so we only have a few more minutes of get out of here but between now and probably the next. Odd all pierce. We'll be enshrined in the hall of fame. By way of none of can burnett. I believe who has been letting up a storm on instagram. Among other things talking about this process justin. I know you wrote about that a little bit. Tell us about. Kevin garnett. Paul pierce tell us about the mannix. You're staying in until about your thoughts. Well my own. Paul pierce thoughts are that he is by far my favorite member of the two thousand eight titled team and maybe the only one who is in constantly making me grab my forehead and shake back and forth in disbelief. They're saying whatever they're saying. But i won't get into that too much because this is all about purist and celebrating his legacy at manic species great. It's all kinds of legates in there. Some of which have been talked about before some of which have been expanded on some of which is pretty new. The most interesting thing to me being a podcast head. But i am is that there may be a cagey paul pierce. Podcast coming up and Just put this out there paul. If you need someone to help you find your way around. Latin america signed siamese up. Let's do it in america. Well evidently this new podcast idea is going to be based on traveling in neulander experiencing new cultures trying new foods. And you know anthropologist. i. I'm kind of an expert in that. So if yeah okay that makes more sense to me. It's gonna be tough competition vows. Were really gonna have to step up. Our game are competing with those two guys. Yeah but we now get nothing. Yeah we're going to be that much for granted. I don't know we talking about smart thing. Sometimes i will say paul pierce sometimes just public life. He doesn't weird things that. Don't stand for but opposites celtics fan. I i love basketball player. Certainly the facts. That ray allen is going to enshrine. Chris chris bosh needs to be at this event and person which one hundred percent sure. Everything's being person. That's going to be hilarious awkward. I don't really even know if i care if they ever pair the hatchet but i also don't know if i if i keep hearing about it but for anyone who's going to be following the thing ceremony believe saturday the eleventh or whatever that data's and be good it's weird and awkward but hurry for beers. Paul i love you. Man made the cooler with the. How're you talked with all.

"Cover. That whole motors cover slander. So you guys when you all are slandering people and i understand you all do quite a bit of slander. Down there but When you slander someone. Many times your homeowners will cover your the cost of defense and your claim for slander. How did you all the fine print and those homeowners policy. How did you feel whenever the people sued subway for not having enough tuna tuna sandwich and there's a class action lawsuit. Did you feel like that was warranted. It could be. I mean you know. There's a lot of of bs class actions out there but on the other hand well first of all it to me. That's i don't know about that. You have to believe that adds slander. Jon morgan that slander coverage well look slander. There is one thing but Truth is an absolute defense to slander. But no seriously the it. It probably is a climb. Because are you really getting tuna fish. Are you really getting enough tuna fish. What does it say on the side. We trust what it says on the side of the package but i would say by and large. There's a lot of class actions. That's just really more for the lawyers than for the consumers. Jon morgan of morgan and morgan. If i go to a restaurant. And i burn the top of my mouth on a really hot piece of pizza. Do i have a case. Probably not the famous mcdonald's case now remember that's what we all. We all think about the famous. Mcdonald's case where the woman got the hot coffee what you got to remember that case is mcdonald's was heating that coffee up at like one hundred forty degrees. It was steaming hot. The reason they did it was because by the time people got the back to the office. The coffee was coldly kep eating it up hotter and hotter and hotter and hotter. They had had many cases like that before but they never turn the heat down the coffee. If you google that case and look at the women's burns you will not believe what happened to her legs and so that verdict came after many many bites of the apple. Where mcdonald didn't change their conduct and the verdict was reduced substantially but if a pizza place over and over and over was cooking their pizzas so hot that the cheese was burning off the flesh on the roof of your mouth and they never change conduct. Then you might have a case but not a one off you know. it's always at least in my lifetime. I've been told if there's an accident person who rear ends the person is at fault. is that true. It's always the person's fault who does rear ending. No because there's there's a big defense out there called sudden stop and listen up. How many of us have had people suddenly stop in front of us. So you've got people who are not paying attention ahead of you suddenly. Stop all of a sudden. You're caught off guard and you don't have time to react. So what was the rule. What was the rule in driver's ed. We're supposed to be one car linked behind per ten miles an hour hour. Whatever so. i got a driver's ed park high school. So sudden stop won't affect you if you're not if you follow that rule. This is not injury related. But if i were to win the lottery what the first step you recommend for me to do legally if you are you married. Okay i was gonna suggest you go to vegas to the bunny ranch. But i'll crash that The first thing i would do is i would go around my family and give them make them as whole as i possibly could if they had debt in their debt if they had financial troubles out in their troubles and then i'd go to go to europe on vacation but legally if i win millions of dollars. Should i call an attorney to say. Hey watch over this or do i just run wild and free like you're saying i wouldn't run wild and free. I'd i wouldn't call a lawyer. Because i don't know what a lawyer i mean. What is the you're to go help you pick up the check. But i i'd be happy to represent you and i'll only take twenty five percents. I do ause we're friends. Of course i you. All will always have the morgan and morgan friends and family discount. So if you or anybody on at the station wins the lottery. I'll do it for twenty five percent. Maybe less mortgage mortgage baby less. They're offering one hundred thousand dollars in a contest for a new jingle. They're looking for a catchy tune. And not just and he loves music but not just for his own enjoyment so big prize one hundred thousand bucks and so do you wanna play yours eddie. Absolutely i want to let them know that. I'm in on this contest so mr morgan. We actually have eddie. Who is a real musician. Who has made a jingle. Would you like to hear it right now. I would okay here we go. And how long is it thirty. It's oh it's thirty to thirty six. Listen to here i want. I want him to know this before he goes in. Listen to there are multiple jingles in one part of the rules. You have to put certain slogans in there like for the people and dial pound law. That's all so those are all in there. But think of this as different ways. You can use this slogan. Are you prepared to hear a thirty second. I think he's talking about jingles within the jing. That's what i'm talking about. jon morgan. You know what. I'm talking about goals within the jingle. I love it ray. Let's make sure he can hear it through the phone. Just let them here. A second of it looped. Okay can you hear that. Dial that thing.

Well travel jon morgan. And today today. I am in new hampshire looking out at the lake and waiting for the toby. Keith concert this weekend after this is a this is a country state up here. This is a country world. That's how i like. Willie nelson next weekend and i bet you backstage passes to tell this stuff. Don't you probably for willie with him in maui and i'm sure that you have a haze about that game i had a hayes about that game And it was the last time i was there. Paul som- actually came and played and But yeah there was there. We we listened to willie wrote whatever the willie road serious music and we have sandwiches and other refreshments the refreshments. I think we need no okay. Listen we love when you come on because you shed light on situations that we just don't know the answer to for example. Amy got in iraq and a guy tried to pay her in cash on the spot. What do you do if you get into a wreck. And they don't have insurance but they want to give you cash right there. Well cat cash without a release is just cash gone. But i wouldn't take it what i would tell you is if they don't have insurance. Maybe you do. And you have. What's called uninsured or underinsured motors coverage but usually the people are trying to pay for cash. They have bigger problems. No insurance like no driver's license like warrant for their arrest like escapee from prison. So it's usually not about insurance. It's usually about something else and you did not take the cash. Yeah i almost dead. Just because i didn't want to take anything. I just felt so bad because he was just so insistent that we not call the police. And i of course like was feeling really bad for him even though the wreck was totally his fault. But yeah i didn't take it. But he's offering me two hundred dollars. And i got the damage assassin. It's a five thousand dollar thing to fix and yeah and having to go through my insurance to do it. He might have insurance. You know. don't don't let that. Don't let the two hundred dollars because a lot of people are thinking. Hey i'd rather pay two hundred dollars and not having my rates go up. A lot of people. Try to make a business decision at the scene of the accident. another situation. that happened here. Lunchbox fox on our show dented. A car with a shopping cart as he was trying to squeeze between two cars in a parking lot is he legally responsible to pay for that damage yes he is and most likely his homeowner's insurance will cover that claim homeowners though it was a basket from a grocery store how does homeowners.

"Digman regan. Interestingly navien as i think about it it's often the letter c c thomas. How actor and my only got my own uncle. See calvert knutson did he. But he went by cal. He went on his desk. His his little nameplate would say see calvert city kelp recruits and. That's that's how he signed everything. And that's how he That's how his name appeared on all. Corporate correspondent was like those all. Wpa postseason it'd be like see old faithful. See the grand canyon. See calvert canoed the letters e in this case c. calvert. And i i mean calverton alone is kind of a fun name that you don't hear that often you might dig a calvert. I don't know very many children named cal you know. It's one of those names kind of went away. I knew a calvin my age. But i've never met a calvin younger than me but calvert. I know i understand you saying most cows are not calvert. Right there. Calvin they could potentially be mahan. 's or cal callaghan. It'd be a good girl's name. Eldrick celtic if there was an nba player kendrick. I wouldn't no. I wouldn't buy sheldrakes with x with an x but yeah and ask your doctor. Celtics is right for you but Yeah that's interesting i. We unfortunately gave my daughter several names which will probably talk about more. But i've i've suggested to her a couple of times that she start her name with a with a a single letter period and then some some subsequent name and so far she's rejected. I think it's because it does seem kind of like a boy thing. Yeah the junior and senior. The junior in the third thing. That so bothers tom. We're not gonna probably get into that much. Although i do agree that it's his. I was able to corroborate his finding which. I don't think i was aware of that. It's not in common usage. Really anywhere else. In the i mean maybe canada which is american north. We call it but the the uk an ireland. And i don't think even australia new zealand used junior and senior. My dad was a junior and never ever used it. And if you mentioned it to him he would. He would scowl scowling. But i had a friend in in high school. Richard winfield garnett the third and i used to really object to him calling himself the third because my understanding was that you had to have had to have the the first dodi you you had always well. It'd be alive at. It'd be alive at the same time right and his grandfather had died. And i said that makes you richard. Winfield garnett the second and he was like no no no. The third looked into the etiquette on this. There's no there's no formal definition miss manners actually believes in your finding but everybody moves up is but that's just proof that you miss manners are agents of chaos. Because that's insane. I learned why. Why should i use my name anytime. Someone of a different generation dies. That's absolutely insane. All of this is made up anyway. It is yeah why not make up a convenient version rocket like keenum. That's not how etiquette rules work. He's it's intended to be more complicated. Not less the But i do. I am interested in the subject of middle initials and You know to get into why there are see thomas owls and L ron hubbard's and and whatnot out there in the wild eight. Just a whitney browns. Just running wild hunt in the woods of new england. somewhere You you do have to understand how middle initials originated. Oh how middle initials originated before. We can fully appreciate how first initials yes. The initials because middle initials are fairly modern invention. Oh middle names are surprisingly modern. You have a middle name. That's you'd never use or oh well i mean. When i was young. I was known by all my family members as jon. Morgan and they never said the one without the other jon morgan. Because there were other. John's no there were no. Oh well the john's from the earlier generation so okay so this is something interesting. Well interesting to me. That'd be unprecedented for omnibus. Go ahead all the john's in my family at the age of majority. Turn to jack's so they were john's as boys and then became jacks. What happened in the night It like the to ferry. I think it was when they stopped wearing short pants and stopped needing a hook to lace up their boots. But i had. I had to uncle. Jack's both who of whom had been known as john as children and so in my family. John is thought of. I mean although it's are proper names it's thought of as a child's name and then you migrate jack. I was known as jon. Morgan jon morgan. And they're still family members to call me that that somebody yelling for you as a child. Jon morgan jon morgan. Mary hartman. Jon boy it does sound like somebody yelling to one of the waltons to fetch some water or to to feed the hands. And i think some of it was derived from kind of kennedy's version of john junior but then somehow. When i became a grown-up i did not get to be jack. I wasn't. I didn't transfer to jack and part of it. Was that the jacks were still alive. The old the older generation. It's peter pan syndrome. You never grew up. Well that to some what you could decide to be jack at some point. I and there are people that that. Call me jack. But it's just a it's kind of a. I don't know a romantic name. But i what happened. Was i lost morgan. So people in my family stopped calling me. Jon morgan except for the the truly old ones pricey. Your wikipedia calls you jon morgan. It does because i. yeah. Because i'd never i'd never. I'd never seen you seen that. On a checker a weird your house is full of weird plaques with your name on it and none of them have that middle name or initial jon morgan. Well i am your john. M rodrick john roderick right in the language of middle initials and i think maybe at one point when i was twenty one i briefly styled myself as j morgan roderick yes the first time i the first time i put my name in the phone book well actually the first time. I put my name in the phone book. I said i called me myself. John ignatius rodrick because i was an insufferable eighteen year old. You just read a confederacy of dunces. Or you didn't wanna get phone calls. You both yeah. I mean it was just. It was like a gnome gnome phonebook. I is a weird middle. Initial it really. You don't trust somebody. Who has i mean if somebody has an xs middle initial. You're like this guy's terrific xavier. Yeah but if somebody has is a middle initial you really wonder what went wrong. Can i jennings well. Yeah but catholic you could be. You could be a jesuit ken. Ken ignatius roderick. No but j m j. Morgan roderick seemed because morgan is a good. That could be a good name. Could have been known as morgan sure. I'm kind of a morgan. Wouldn't you say morgan roderick. Sounds like what is that very welch. What if i was your old west author like morgan john roderick.

"Que. You have now arrived at your destination and this is such a joy to do. Just checking. In as we said foley. Ba since all lost app said i wanted to do this for a long time but thank you so much joining me against a absolutely am excited though i do want to start. I love a good story. And so we're obviously focusing on nina lift and early zimrights journey. And so we're making bank. Paint the picture for me. How did you meet the team. Where's the meeting. Who is it. Wave provide that context. Yes so interestingly enough. Our best founders come through recommendations from our existing founders. The ramey met john and logan. Was that leah bosque. Who's the founder of task rabbit had been in the facebook incubator accelerator at the same time as john logan and in fact we have a picture where the johnny logan were helping leah put up her sign edge in this office and the result of that there were friends leah told me. Hey there's a couple of guys that you really ought to meet i had funded leah's my first check the year before in two thousand nine. Okay so you were introduced. Why did you have the first meeting. And was that like an unwelcome it. I find ultima meeting. He's that's a moment when you're like. Oh wow this is special was the meaning. Did you have that. Yes so johnny. Logan came into our office. Mike and i at the time we were subleasing space from another venture capital firm. It just if the picture. I'm just getting started in my venture capital career and i think i haven't even finished my phd. At the time. And i was largely pregnant. So i was due in. I think in april of that year and in our first meeting. I might pregnant. I have like this meeting on having and mike is. There was great about it was. We're also just starting off. What our career. I think probably. Jon morgan had gone up and down sandhill road and been rejected by a bunch of firms at that time and i also hungry to make investments. I don't have a name. I don't have a brand on. Which i'm sitting on and so i'm trying to hustle to find great folks to work with and so at this moment we cut together and i've been teaching all these classes with steve blank on customer development and here are two guys who walk into our office. There's a couple of things that were really drawn to one. Was they have this incredible story of why they're working on this so john Had joined logan on this journey on. Zimmerman and logan says he. Now i was in zimbabwe. I was really passionate about transportation and in zimbabwe all. These people can't afford to own a car so they share the ride. And i had been in zimbabwe back in two thousand six. And i remember seeing this. You'd see people piled into cars driving to different locations and so he was inspired by this but he'd been working transportation since the days in college. He was actually on the board of transportation authority in santa barbara where he had gone to college and then john at the same time. He joins journey because in college cornell. She had seen this class where this professor he talked about. How transportation changes the fabric of society in the united states. And you could go from canals to you know railways to highways actually how the physical infrastructure within a society changes because of the way transportation evolves. And we're at this moment where transportation is about to change because we have new software infrastructure with social networks. That might enable something new. And it's crazy to think at the time but like we haven't seen a transportation startup in fact we're looking at this business. We had to go and talk to the founder of zipcar to see what else is out there and literally. There was nothing really. No innovation had really happened since that period of zipcar in the transportation stays so really what we were interested in was this insight around a market. I totally agree advisable you mike for by insight development. I guess you said they're rocketed. Building on top of the new software layer social network. That idea that he changed. And it was actually mayfield. Your invitation when was it clear that change was made and needed to be made in the idea. I mean so. I think this is the secret to cede investing which is it wasn't clear for a number of years. We made our investment in two thousand ten and the actual sh- agent happen until two thousand twelve and so if you think a pivot in many people's minds just like a moment it's like the singular decision and it's like a lightning strikes. You know in reality. What happened with lift. Was that zimmerman. Through hundreds of iterations it starts off as a platform that sold to universities. Then it becomes a platform that all to universities and corporations at this realization of we don't have enough density of activity right if you stay within stanford campus fine within stanford campus. But you need to stitch together. How can you do that by stitching together. Facebook that was in palo alto in time and stanford kind of but you're never gonna get to the density that you need and then how do you make people more comfortable with paying for transportation. We looked at craigslist and people are trying out different longer routes. They're paying for being in a car with someone to go to lake. Tahoe or to la. So what is logan. do well the next week. he's rented a van and he's posted to craigslist that he's gonna drive down to la and here's the ceo of a company who's driving a van down to la with a bunch of people who've paid for spots in it just to see if that's going to be the secret to unlock more activity and so zimrights to lift was a process non moment. What did you learn about them in that process as you said there is a two year process with multiple iterations as you said that the driving to add a as it's been pretty unusual things. What did you learn about them as a team out process. There's an absolute commitment to customer fanatical desire for customer development. So a lot of people think customer development is like intellectual process and in fact it's hand-to-hand combat right. You're trying to uncover secrets that other people may not know and for them. It was real life experimentation right. The fact that john zimmer are when he was selling the platform to universities would go to a university campus dressed in a beaver suit to try to convince people to just engage with this plot for jason. Sounds for like it wasn't that they felt like someone else should do that work. They were always so committed to knowing what the customer desire was and how that translated into product for themselves and for each person who was in that organization really came alive all the time. I i love that. I didn't know about the bbc adamant. But i do have to ask as i always get worried day. I'm because in found have so much money so early that they need to the customer development process for a while they hired extensively beforehand just because of the proliferation of capital gina. Driving down to l. a. and vans and dressing. Bbc's we don't see that commitment as much anymore in my eyes. Do you share the same concern in that review in terms of the early money. That's now aloft. But i think that's what you look for now again. You're not always looking for the best idea because at the seed stage we often say we're not investing in a company because a startup isn't a company. It's a set of insights is development of a set of secrets that you have if you believe that whatever you're investing in the seed stage is stagnant than great. We should always just invest not best idea but in my mind i'm always investing in a set of people who are committed to process of uncovering secrets. And if you believe that then you wouldn't invest in the person who wasn't willing to own that can sorry this is convenient scheduling. What what questions do you ask to uncover the process. They go to those insights. What are the biggest questions that reveal the most in terms of that process. I mean like in the very first stages. I would love to have them even right up some of what they believe right so i love looking at the things that they will let go of the beliefs that even if the david came in unclear they wouldn't let go of. I like to look at what they believe in terms of their competition. Who is our competition. Why i like to understand what has happened. Historically that they believe it wasn't true in the past and is true now and so it's this abrogation of the idea as that. I think we concentrate so much. A building right and i think building processes and speed of development is really important but a second element that we also look for is the speed at which people develop their own insights..

Well you know going back to habib's tweet good always beats evil. I think he wrote on. I guess Kobe is good fathers. Evil and then immediately deleted goes seriously. And by the way as jon morgan pointed out when he did the story on this mcgregor was very classy towards abdul Off which is the father of beaver may not and the demographia family very classy. You talked about the impact. He's had for 'em remain for that team in dagestan So why. I say this is to be able to do that. After everything they've been through and the fact is he'll be kicked us but shows that he was able to put the sporting side of him aside and out what the human side of conor mcgregor is which is show respect and he did and so the now have this one moment. I just don't get it. I don't get it either. I mean think about where you have to be. What kind of head space. You have to be to do something like that to say something like that like those are words that even people you dislike like your worst enemy if even rough saying it to someone like that like let alone somebody that you have said in the past have respect for somebody. That does the same thing you do. That's been through the same things you have. That's fucking rough man. I can't believe he went there Obviously very disappointed and conor mcgregor in and that. But i'm getting to the point where i'm starting to get very disappointed in the people around him that we have not heard anything from any of them at least saying listen. We're going to try and talk to the sky and figure out what the hell is going on. What's wrong we're gonna try and get him some help or something because Old old saying tell me who your friends are. Hey we don't condone you know i. I know that there's heat in a lot of fights and fighters safe things do things but there has to be a certain line. And we're gonna talk to conor mcgregor about that line or something sponsors managers to somebody's gotta step up and say something and i want those words the be. We're gonna try and get this guy help. Doesn't it all strike you as a see what's on the was put out but i'm gonna use in my sense. It almost looks like a pissed off. Digi saturday night. Three m hitting the bottle had a rough week. Can i just decided to do something stupid. Say something stupid or do something stupid. That doesn't seem like a waking up and having bacon eggs and then you decide to do that while you're little kids balancing on your lap. That doesn't seem like that. It seems like that other side aside be just a human being in a dark place. You know I don't know Of course it may be another influence. But i hate to put those allegations out. Because i don't know the guy miserable party but could it could have been something like that could have been sausage. What the fuck. why why. Why would his anger be so fueled that he would go there. Well these you can say if you want prop yourself up in. And i don't know i mean i i was kinda mad i guess when i when i couldn't do anything for a long time in my knee was you know jacked up around told you couldn't even shower for like ten days. I just saw miserable. You know but. I wasn't drinking. Because i was taking medication but i don't know what what could fuel him. That kind of have that type of rage anger. I don't know the last time that something like this. Where i think the. Ufc kind let it play out. Was the incident with the dalai in the bus. And he saw that kind of mayhem and you saw the effect that it had on not just ufc endanger white but other people. I just feel like learn your lesson you get in front of it. This time really really cracked down on. This guy really really talked to him. And figure this out. Because habib's beloved in russia. Not just in russia That's transferred over here. There's a lot of fans in here in america that love that guy and it's not always habib you have to worry about you know people people can get a hand. We've seen this enough. Like i don't have any interest in ever see in a fourth fight between these guys. It's pretty obvious that dustin foyer is a much better fighter than conor mcgregor. At this point. I think ten times dustin probably wins nine of them light. It's just where they are in their careers. Dozens going to go down as an all time. Great lightweight and is gonna go down as the guy who beat at our. Is you know like he's one in three lightweight. It is what it is. He had a chance to maybe be one of the greats of all time and instead he's just going to be the richest fighter of all time and the most popular fighter of all time. And that's a hell of an accomplishment but at this point like he wants to see a fourth fight who has any interest in this at all other than the most die-hard fan wiz who has the most interest. No i'm just shareholder sure. That's not what i mean. That's not what i mean. I mean on like a hardcore fan scale. People clamoring to see dustin paulie versus conor mcgregor. Four because i don't feel like that's actually out there like i'm sure when it happens which it will happen. We'll all watch it. But that doesn't that's not exactly what i guess what i'm saying. Yes dana why is only comment. I've seen so far has been not a fan or yeah that's outta line when someone brought up the prefight trash but it was after the fight and he didn't say anything about it before the fight will use it in the in the promos be use the bus attack after he said it was disgusting. And all of the promos Even alice when i interviewed after for our post show he said you have to carry yourself. If you want to call yourself a champion. You've got gotta carry yourself like a champion. And he wasn't even a fan of connor's Post fights oxo disgusting all around as far as the media. I am sure someone will ask. I'm sure we'll be someone like jon morgan Not sure the mac life will bring it up whether it's their place to or not I'm not quite sure. But i'm sure someone like jon morgan or someone onsite will bring up. What's there to bring up with. What's i don't what would. what do you mean. Bring up to what dana i would lie. I personally would like data's comments on it. You can't not have something. Hey i'm going to tell you why that's again we're not talking. We're not talking about whether we know what he's gonna say not. Someone has to ask him about it whether we all know what he's going to say it needs to be brought up we didn't answer. The question is is even a code of conduct policy. No that's one of the questions. No no it's hyper selective. it's it's conor mcgregor. he's he's the cash cow and they're gonna milk everything they can juice every last. Drop out of that cash cow. I mean they're not going to do anything to me. James the reality of you don't care about you. Know them running back and forth time. I didn't give a shit about running back a third time so forth time gaining and give less but i work this job and people wanted people wanna steal hear about it or whatever. So they're gonna they're gonna they're going to converse destined to do like they're going to do our best to seven. They're going to do like the nba finals. Just keep doing this until finally wins one and then it's just like oh look i look over. Let's move on everybody. We saw that does get a lot of money to just keep on women then if it's best to seven good on him then oh okay. Are this counterargument. Ronda rousey tweet. That's motion that's connor loser propping up. Another sore loser is what i see. It's kind of. it's kind of funny. How they're they're so their buds. I like that. It makes a lot of sense Cover everything in this question. No question marks are cool. The main one. I don't think. I don't think the media is going to ignore. It likes someone honest right. I'm talking about bringing. Discussion of the media is some monolith. It is so hilarious to me. Every time i've just like oh the yemen may me a dozen talk about this as if there's not hundreds of people in the media and you know some people are probably talking about that and it's it's funny. I just find it funny. Were between different fans where that line is crossed for. This fan in particular fans was that line was crossed with threatening to kill or murders family and stuff. I mean it's it's i mean. I felt the line was crossed way back. You know we've connor so like this is like for me. My whatever we've already accepted. He can say whatever he wants. You know and just still selfies so here. We are the common question. Sal eighty six mcgregor future. Does connor fight twice more. Twenty twenty two and be done with his contract. It'd be with uc and fight. Jake paul i see no way. He leads himself. Bgi speed by dane if he fights. I don't know the exact number of fights left if he has three or two or whatever like let's say he has. Let's yeah i see you. We're gonna let's say hypothetically as to. I don't know just for the sake of this question. I am pretty confident that dan dan will not let him just walk away. Half stupid bites maybe for a bit you think. Yeah no i have. A ceiling leading conor mcgregor go especially. I wouldn't be surprised if if they tried to get one fight. Conor tries to get two more fights and they'd do connor nate three outside the ufc and make a ton of money and they get to keep it not give you a chunk of of it but Sean i'll let you answer this. I what do you make. connor's contract situation. Will we see him. Ever outside the fcc. I would be stunned if ever reach that point. Like i don't know that the ufc. I don't know how the secret possibly ever reached..

In tyson era these the paper circuits just get bogged down and sometimes down. They're not expecting that much traffic. So i wouldn't get in early not have to worry about it on the day of con- your espn plus who by the way ma'am like you. You wanna you wanna get everything in early. Have your little confirmation. There's a lot of people that just try to let you know At the same time which is right when the event starting they look at griffith conduct goes eight working. I get more of it next thing you know. They've they've lied Barely it's easier to have. It all confirmed you know early. Leon goes jon morgan. Didn't interview with Evans and i read something where i was like. What come on boy. I don't eat rashad. i've been more right. He says he expects on. Jones's legacy will continue heavyweight in his quotas his iq inside the octagon can't be surpassed by anybody now. Of course what i was thinking was is like you outside. The octagon volvo stays as made when it comes to. Pd's the allegations the the you know our crashes and not the one where he ran away but the knee rapper bentley around a pole with a couple of servers in the made some bad decisions there but then i started thinking john jones has won some fights that are very very close but he's eight adjustments 'specially like in fight against alexander gustafsen the further light. He was down to one going at around four and five in both round Five he was losing them early but he came back to win both and that's why he won three rounds the two but he has made some adjustments on the rematch against daniel. Cormet was getting his ass kicked i and then he came back in one half by so he does make some pretty good adjustments. He has been able to weather storms like in dominick cruz or dominic grades. We thought he was down. Nothing but you know again. He came back. He sees figured out a way to stay on invaded. He's had some unique Techniques like linear kicks during a back. Somebody's knee or yanking on global to share his arm pulling out of the socket. Mom you know early on needs to be able to stick anyone down williams's crush on with ground and pound. You submitted the machida You know he's had some questionable tactics sometimes fingers hang out a little bit too much. But in the end he's undefeated you may be right. Maybe right it's the nike and being able to think with a clear head after being in in combat with somebody for so long and he's been able to figure it out even outside. I'll give them a little bit of credit he can get in some of his opponents heads with some of. It's not the most traditional trash shop but the way he is lincoln conduct.

"Trying to rush echo. There goes a little bit of that. That little cake meal wasn't ready so eating a little bit of that cake yet by yesterday that all day or what was that. A pg basically don't know why. I'm calling it a big little frog in my throat. Struggled through the little intro. Sound like frogging. He sounds like froggy from the little rascals definitely Listen no usc. Novella ornell afl. But we have lots of coverage of cfc And titan you know meeting we have content up. Of course. Our colleague john oregon coppell the action for cfc. So do not ever hesitate. Click on those stories as well. I know some of you be lying for usc. But i'm telling you there's great action and many of the other promotions that are out there so take a look some great highlights. I was joking the other day spending back like out how the first part of twenty twenty one was a big focus on obviously the fans coming back but the violence. I left out a couple one. The i included the finger. That almost fell off completely at the epilepsy a couple months ago. I joked that it almost landed on c. Pumpkin jon morgan lamp But i forgot also it came back but remember when anthony smith was cut down jimmy crews leg. That's for the ones that makes the most goes even though i know that so long. They don't really twist rankle mega worse throughout the fight. I just know that within minutes or hours the feeling will come back and they'll be fine. You'll be able to walk away but for that particular moment in which when you're telling your body part at this way and your angle just flops off man you know and so i know there's broke arms broken legs and things like that but donald macey wants to my left that one out. Yeah i mean you know chris. Wyman was a bunch of them this year. Some bad eye pokes but that leg. You're right it's just kinda like like when your leg falls asleep at home or at work and you take that. I knew go. Whoa to take more of these. This could get really bad. Imagine being in a fight in that happening halfway through the checkout of the titan. Lfa often you'll get some of the gnarliest cao's That you'll see and those young end up in clean talent that are gonna be sued in the u of c or bell tower or pf l. so anyway With that said goes to see uc to sixty four out down yet begun the juice swan. Yeah i got through most of it. It's pretty awesome. And actually if you just watch the intro to it which is kinda long boy. That's good enough right there. Like you're already happy with that as a product. And it's just the intro and then you get into it and you're just reminded a little bit of the history that these guys have had and it's depends on who's is you're looking at looking through but There are times where you look at it. And you go out. Despite is just gonna be absolut absolutely massive. They hate each other. And then there's moments in this trilogy where you look at him and you go. I think these guys have respect for the for each other's it's kind of hot and cold jekyll and hyde. But i'm pretty sure that when we roll up on that press conference thursday. There's gonna be a lot of that mental warfare being thrown out in. Could you say the five hundred thousand dollar check to a charity. That wound up going to a charity. Not dutton's is at the core of this literally. I think they would have piped up anyway because lost the nets steams and he knows how to fight what i think when dustin really really needle them and got the best at least for that particular moment was when he brought up the check. That hadn't gone through yet or gum throughout all the lack of communication. I mean he attacked this rich kids reputation. You because you ever yellow reputation were are you the decent human being and then obviously like you. Are you a lister. You know what i mean. I think it was like that alastair type that that he took a hit with you know as a decent human being. You know like i say well i mean there's acted in these. I guess but what athlete in intimate celeb-. I guess it hasn't gotten in trouble. But i guess what i mean is the most art of father. you know an and great price price prizefighter. Guess who knows. I'll just skip that little but but getting back to charity you know. I knew he would write a check. I just didn't know it would wind up to bill to another Charity not enough guston's and the lack of communication and all that you know. I don't even know if it was on him. You know it. He direct people. Just stop answering like oh man that i wonder. If that's gonna come up more you know and in the end i hope since charity does get five hundred thousand from someone some rich cat out the figures to make this right. You know Because you could tell how much dustin why really really put into that in that. That's another thing i got out the countdown. I wasn't sure if they were gonna go there but they did. You know i think That's something that probably is going to continue. I think of destined smart. You're right. It did bother conor mcgregor right away. I mean for him to do something like that as pretty as pretty mean. Yeah at the end of the day he is donating a something but don't forget that there were people that could have been counting on that you know there could have been jobs involved. There could have been a lot of things involved so for him to do that. Kinda sucks to. If i'm dustin i bring it up again bring it i keep bringing it up and just saying an kinda stating those facts like you might have taken away some things from other people you try to hurt me but really hurt a lot of people at keep bringing it up because that is appointed embarrassment for for conor mcgregor. I agree but knowing dustin. I don't think he initiated but if it's brought up and somebody to ask them a question like that then i think he'd have every right to answer it that way and yes that would sting. It takes away from exit. The nose and this is what i do when i got a heavy left end. 'cause that press conference is.

"Blessed and happy that i did this. Wow what a beautiful i- healing. You're so few things in life that people can wholeheartedly say how happy they are that they did so. I so glad to hear that because as of you are. We're so unbelievably not only happy. I think we're all feeling a sense of gratitude for your presence. Oh thank you receive that. And i do receive that somebody sent me a dm on the other day. She happened to be an asian american woman. And she's like hi ebony. You probably don't need to hear this. But just know that as an agent. America woman in the wake of this anti-asian hate You know dynamic that's going on in our nation editor It was really beautiful. And she. But i was like sis i wrote her back. I was like no absolutely need to hear that. Like don't ever take Your connection for granted People every day people that you think are so strong are so whatever above it Were human too and to have that. Affirmation come from human connection is very powerful. Yes it really is an absolutely is. I have a a kind of unrelated question but sure we're asking. Is there any update. You can give us as to your dating light since i saw that. Yeah absolutely so I am happy to report that. I am well underway in my relationship with my matchmaker too. I know i spent way more than i planned and would have ever thought was needed on on but an elite vary elite in mazing matchmaking. Company and i am happy to. I'm actively dating. I am actively dating. I am going out. I am meeting men. Virtually and in person Thanks to vaccinations. Shutout dude axes And what i'm happy to say is you know i'm meeting such exceptional men. And that's where the investment of a great matchmaker to me is worth it on that. Maybe not to everybody depends on what your relationship goals are. I'm extremely unpa unapologetic about at this point. I'm thirty seven thirty eight and september. I wanna husband. I really do and i want. I want to be a good wife and i wanna be a mom and those are relatively new goals for me. So when i met my then fiance. I was thirty three. I just wanted to be in love right so i wanted to be in love. I wanted somebody that i could travel with. Go on trips. Good nice dinners date and enjoy companionship. Right and through my relationship with him balling so deeply in love with him on living life daily with him. At some point we moved in together all those things. Seeing him father his three children And two of them through early adulthood even It actually made my goals different like through that relationship. I realize well. Holy shit. I actually do want to be married again and i want to do it much better than i did. The first time which was miserable and i was terrible. Shit wife I want to do that. And i want to do it. Well this time. And i want to really commit and i wanna give and i want a real partner to make life decisions with and i wanna be someone's mom i wanted to raise and inspire and pour into someone other than myself And so because of those new goals and my biological clock and yes i have frozen eggs But i still don't even take that for granted because if you know enough about that that's not a total guaranteed right. So i invested in this matchmaker. The way lots of invest in like hedge hunters when we're head hunters when we're looking for Jobs or we invest in real estate. We invest in everything else. Career woman right. So i'm gonna invest in love. And i just know i want to partner with someone exceptional and this experience has introduced me to the most exceptional men I've ever met Every last one of they're all different. They're different cultures. Their different Ages to some extent there definitely in different professional backgrounds. The one thing they all have in common their exceptional men. Yeah yeah yeah. I'm having a lot of fun. I'm having so much and most people hate dating. I'd ever was a huge fan. I'm enjoying dating this way. Because everybody i meet a not going on every like oh is this my husband. 'cause i'm not. I trust this process i will meet my husband. I have zero doubt about it. So now i'm just going on these dates. Am i having fun. Is there any kind of attraction. Because i do think attraction congressional moms just william assessing like am. I not just don't want to be turned off. You know so. If i'm not turned off i'm definitely going to give it like a second or third date so listening to you. I was almost kind of like mesmerized You're describing that experience. Because i do think it's kind of antithetical to the way that dating his described do normally today. We'll do not have so. I'm just. I'm so happy for you that you're having those experiences and let me tell you i know i don't really know you personally but i have absolutely no doubt that whatever manual or with is really truly so unbelievably lucky. Because you're saying that you're meeting these exceptional men but you aren't exceptional woman really in china's through and make my eyes on on thank you. Thank you know i'm excited. We'll wait till like this week's episode of roni Sonia and i go to see one of my dear friends devon simone who also is a matchmaker by trade And many other things. She's incredible on. You'll get to me her on this episode to an you'll you'll see like it's such a fun little girls trip. That's an odd. You know you know frigging fourth while here. Production didn't ask me to do it. Production didn't even know. I knew deb and didn't know i knew i just was again back day. Three in the hamptons observing. Sonia hearing her talk about like when we had the Oh what was it. The burning man in the healer the healer over the fight and you know sonya broke my heart really when she said and some of this was cut out of edit but during that she was talking about how she felt she kinda didn't really fell. She had a purpose to be anymore. You know an an in the sense that her daughter is so successful in wonderful. Now she's done all the things he's launched all the companies and she kind of felt like you know the best part of my life is kinda done and i'm like no sonia. The best part of your life is in front of you my dear and you know. She's obviously we all know. She's been tom mount. Jon morgan for forever and a day and let's move on from it you know it's done get over. Let's move on because there's so much love in front of you And so. That's what i went to production and i was like you know i got a matchmaker frenchies in philly right now. Now devon's back in new york. Thank goodness I just wanna take sonia there and maybe she doesn't find the love of her life. But i wanna talk through what her relationship goals. What kind of man is she really looking for. And also what. Can sonia offer a man at this point because i think as women we kinda get real long with our list and i wanted a her to think about what. She's bringing to the table. Because i see it. I want her to see it right well. It's it's great hearing you describe that almost like the behind the scenes of that because something that we said just in hearing you even bring up. The idea is that it kind of goes into what i was saying earlier about the trust in the safety that she feels with you or so we think but on top of that what a more flattering thing than someone to say. I you are so great and to show you how great i think you are. I want to bring you to my friends. Somebody who i respect my obviously think highly of an. I want to have her to help you these. I think you are so deserving of love and. Sonia needed that like we've seen her fern since the first season struggle with trying to figure out her dating life her love life. You know from young guys. Two older guys to other guys like needed someone who wasn't going to be judgment right now like she needed someone to say like no like flip the switch you..
Kenya Hunt Discusses Her Book On Womanhood And Belonging In The Age Of Black Girl Magic
"Welcome kenya. Thank you for having me well It's great me. I think that this is a very apt to moment for you to be part of our theme on windows and mirrors because we're such a transition point in our culture in our political situation as well and so many things that have happened. You know have reflected kind of the the cultural history of the intersection of race and gender. Which is what you talk about in your book. So i wanted to start off with just the title of your book and you're behind writing it. What was it that you hoped to achieve the book and then later on can you please define what is black girl magic. I started thinking about this book. When i was on maternity. Leave with my second son in you know. My first maternity leave was a period of great reflection for me. This is also the case with my second and so i really just wanted to really take some time to think through what i was observing in. Also my lived experiences black american woman abroad. I was participating in this moment of heightened visibility for a black woman particularly as an editor. You know i've worked for a range of titles in women's magazines on both sides of the atlantic by you know i was witnessing black women go from milestones milestone magazine cover magazine. Cover like a number of really Incredible an historic feats while. I also Intense discussion with the women. I never network about our lived experiences. And how that was looking. You know the the daily trials and tribulations in the complications of our lives and so i was also thinking about social media and the rise of black girl magic and black excellence and these hashtags. That really became much more than hashtags the became movements in really like Rallying calls for all of us and so on. So i'd i'd say black girl. Magic is more sort the context in a backdrop for the buck. Like really sort of looking at my own lived experience within the context of bat. I wanted to write about my particular truths you know as a black american woman. Living abroad and coming into sort of heightened understanding of lunar sexual In my life. And then i also wanted to invite some women who are either and close friends of mine are women i'd encountered through work are really admired from afar to contribute their stories as well so that you felt quite disparate in nature. How long have you been living overseas So i i moved here just before the obamas were inaugurated prior to that and subsequent to your move to to england. What was your relationship to that term. Black girl magic. And how did it change. I know that the term didn't exist in its current context so to that concept. I guess yeah i mean. I don't think sure black girl. Magic was a known thing prior to my moving here. So i mean really. It's something that i mean. I'll have to fact. Check the day tonight right about it in the book but it really wasn't on a popular on social media the way it is now. I mean so jon morgan. Who's a writer whom i love and admire wrote about the idea of black women being magic in her collection of essays when chicken heads come home to roost and that was published in the late nineties. Early onset believe. But i mean the phrase didn't become anywhere near as popular as it is now until i would say in recent years probably in the last five. Thank you for the past five years. I think it was around two thousand fifteen when it became really popular hashtag Sean thompson was the woman who is widely credited with having popularized it on twitter on. So yeah that set when i first moved here i mean all of these things i mean. I think that's what's so fascinating it all the time that i've been here in the uk as on my move here my time here released runs parallel to the rise in social media. You know like all of it. So i mean that's black twitter. That's the black lives matter movement. That's our dependence addiction to our cell phones like all of these movements that have sprung up out of social media and the iphone. I feel like that all sorted happened in the decade. That i've been here until i think it's been quite a real pivotal decade for black women. A lot of ways you know black women have always existed in. We've always been living our lives and doing incredible working incredible feeds. But i think thanks to. You'd have the power in the tools of social media and the way that we used it to our benefit. I think we've seen her. A real sort of heightened recognition visibility there

"Yet on. Its way out it is. It is right kim. The midst of being out So i technically had a release date of january twenty first so it outlawed on all the platforms cetera website which is just made good. Kennedy's place with the my garden others And they're they would like to have me in the fault. So yeah it's like it's out as a solo personal released private release but it will be announced shortly through the strategic as record probably within the next week or so. Yeah it's it's it's out if it's an interesting board. Yeah it sounds like that was surprise of sorts to get that invitation. It was delightful surprise. I reached out to them. They had said this was back before the holidays cool. We've got a bunch of one hundred percent. Sure we need to get our ducks in a row because there are fairly new. Label project And and i said yeah january twenty. I would've open for hadn't heard back and thought ok. Maybe we didn't make the cutter if you got enough else going on and so i was like cool. I'm just gonna go for it and self released as i planned. Put put in the work and so it was a surprise to hear all of a sudden. They're like pappy age up. The reverend huge validation and i admire most of those guys so much musicians could be really fun to be a little bit of part of crew Yeah that's awesome so in a in a perfect world we're all going to get to get back out and and play and enjoy music soon. What does it look like If you can do that to take this out to your audience how. How do you foresee being able to Play out with this new music. It's gonna be fun. I'm psyched about it it will. It won't always be with the full bad as recorded because i've got Drums bass electric guitar electric banjo pam three oregon And the guy who plays that really insists on playing full hamid instead of cues. If you've been out keep word if you possibly can imagine no. It's amazing and the thing you know it's way older than i am. And it's got you know like an eight foot section that's just wires knobs and tube back and it literally has caught fire while he was played on stage or the great antique the founded unbeatable so full band. Yeah i think. I'm open for if i can put together and one or two gigs. Everyone a month with the full band. That'd be awesome. But in terms of being representing the album and touring these songs of this music I'm planning to go for it as much as i possibly can come from the end of code restrictions so you'd like to get out of the state and in tour down through the us. Yeah i would you know i. I did that like mentioned earlier with sort of one of the first bands with that. It's been mostly in statement ad. I have toured regionally a little bit But part of what twenty twenty one represents for me is a switch a little bit further away from that day job. I started teaching banjo. Also with the local community music. that's cool And so. I am hoping that i can take some some small tours down to the further down the east coast or or even all across the country if it's possible. Yeah there's a lot. There are a lot of logistics involved in a wonderful family here in a little little farmstead styled life so it's not necessarily the easiest that's definitely part of my hope. Yeah yeah well. That's that's great the Again the album is many mountains. And the new label Tell us that again astrology as records and where will it be available through them or do you have it on your on the social media outlets as well. Yep it's all over right now. You can go directly to my website. Soco's dot com or band camp or spotify or south cloud or youtube or on the list. It's available everywhere and Website Is nate guseynov dot com.
