"They put up 11 runs on ten hits yesterday. The Phillies, they made that a game because the other starter, on the other side, who's anais and Aaron nola, he surrendered all his 9 runs in one inning. Or at least the rangers scored 9 runs in that fourth inning. But he was a big part of giving those up. I'm not all that surprised on the starters that didn't throw well, right? Degrom, nola, burns, hunter green, gallon, you could throw Snell in there. Remember, I know it's opening day and it's the regular season, but these guys aren't built up to where they'll be. And they're probably not as sharp as they'll be. We had a few guys who came out pretty sharp but for the most part, this is kind of the norm. If you're gonna get an opening day an a starter, opening day is a good time to do it because they're not fully dialed in yet. Yeah, I mean, Cole was great. Ohtani was great, as we mentioned, cease was really good. I mean, these are the best that we have to offer. And I do think there will be more offense with the banning of the shift. You mentioned Corey Seeger he lost 47 hits according to one website last year with the shift. That's a lot of hits to lose. That's probably almost a hundred points on your batting average. So the rangers offense is going to be outstanding. And so is the Phillies. So I'm not surprised that was a high scoring game despite the star pitchers starting that game. I am shocked underground. I rarely have seen him blow up like this and this was the most extra base hits he's ever allowed in a game and I mean, I saw him throw in spring training. It looked fabulous once he got away. I did too. I mean, the guy throws starting pitcher throwing over a hundred miles an hour. I mean, there are a few old tani does it, but not a ton of throw over a hundred who are starters. So, you know, I think he's going to be really good as long as he stays healthy. Obviously. And there are offensive improved, not just the stars that you mentioned, but Grossman Homer to red Miller Homer. Garcia. As well. Yeah, Dallas Garcia is another dude who I think is going to have a big year for them, especially in that lineup. Yeah, it was good last year. He can hit. They've got a good offense, and they redid their whole rotation. It's going to be interesting to see. It's basically a whole free agent team and acquired team. And see how they kind of join together to do it, but they certainly have the talent. And again, as I mentioned, very tough division. Mariners good as was good. And of course, my angels are going to be very good this year. Of course, of course, you're both of your World Series picks, lose to the team that's probably likely to finish last in the division. 100% it.

"Let's talk about your mets because although Scherzer looked terrific in his outing, they did get some bad news. Justin Verlander goes to the IL IO with some sort of muscle strain it sounds like he talked fill us in on that one. Yes, most strain in the low grade in the teres major, which, you know, I've heard that before. If you're on the mets enough, you've heard all the potential injuries. I feel like I should be a doctor covering them. It's very unfortunate. Unexpected, now he was not good in his last start. He's originally told us things it was mechanical, but he was not feeling well in that last start. And he's still feeling something in the shoulder, armpit area. He's feeling well enough to keep tossing the ball, so he doesn't have to build back up after taking a couple weeks off, but certainly, you know, a lot of people are going to say, oh, this is so Metz that this happens to them. They've signed a guy for 43 million. Great history of staying healthy to replace a guy who was unavailable, somewhat the most talented guy in the game to go on, but not that available. The last couple of years and you're the guy who replaces him, now comes down with a surprising injury right at the start of the season, but it was overall a glorious day for the mets. Out in Marlins park, which I still call on depot stadium. Fans, I would say was maybe two thirds mets fans. That's got to be discouraging for the poor Marlins. The 31,000 tickets sold in two thirds of them seemed like anyway, it's 60% mets fans and Steve Cohen was out there in the crowd with the 7 line rooting on the mets. So it was good to see the billionaire out with the strap hangers and it was a fun day overall, but a rough start for the mix. I'm sure I'm sure the Marlins players didn't like the fact that it was mostly med stands. But I have this strange suspicion that ownership wasn't too upset to see 31,000 in the seats there, especially fall on that WBC where that place was probably as full as I've ever seen it. Incredible. You know, 31,000 happy yes, with yesterday, you're absolutely right, Tony, but I don't know that's a great omen for this season. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hello, I'm opening day when you've got the mets and all these New Yorkers down here. You know, what are they going to draw for the Nats? Obviously not opening day game. It's going to be the same. And they added some interesting players. Their offense should be better. They have great young pitchers. The guy who started is the Cy Young winner, a contra, I think it's discouraging that they only through 31 overall that they only. You're probably right. I think the bigger tail will be who shows up today, right? Opening day is, well, we know you'll be there. Opening day is dress up for everybody. But, you know, for the real fans, this is the real opening day in my opinion. Let's talk a little bit about, I'm sorry, let's talk a little bit about what you saw yesterday in terms of some of the teams that look pretty strong. We could start with the mix. I mean, Scherzer leading the way, they are able to put up 5 runs, and that's I think that's going to be kind of the norm for that met's offense. But they look pretty good opening day, along with some of these other teams. The mets look good. The Rain, excuse me, the mets live good. The braves look good. The rangers look good. There's some teams out here. I mean, I know it's opening day. We got a long way to go, but there are some teams that I think look pretty good yesterday. Absolutely. I mean, you know, the record on opening day is incredible. I think they lost their first 8 or 9 opening days and since then they're like 40 and ten. So they're always going to own any day. I'm not going to read too much in insurers terrific. And you know, they certainly need him right now without Verlander there. So that's an issue. I was disappointed in my two World Series teams, both lost your Padres. So I'm not going to blame you. It's not entirely your fault. And of course, my angels who didn't beat the ace, so that was not great news, but I mean, the teams generally, a lot of the teams we expect to be strong. I don't think the Dodgers are going a 111, but they're going to be a strong team. They're good, though. Rage look good. Yep, the rangers certainly improved team. You know, I think the White Sox will be better. They did go down and beat Houston and Houston, Dylan cease, really good pitcher. We saw some strong starting pitching performances, but you pointed this out earlier to me, we had some blow ups among, you know, de gram was the most obvious 185 million. And you give them a lot, the most extra base hits he's ever given up 6 in a game, but there were several several aces did not pitch that way. Yeah, there's certainly that's certainly right. We'll get to that in a second. The ranges you mentioned to Grom, struggling through his start, but that offense looks pretty good. I mean, you got the likes, got the likes of sim in, you got the likes of Seeger.

"Dot com for details. Well, they can throw that one bone that you mentioned because I did see a game where Mark Hannah was chasing a ball into the corner of foul ball through it back into the stands. It rolled onto the field. Then he made a big play and he's running to get to the bed and he's helping his puffing. Okay, and that one circumstance the umpire can use some judgment. Other than that, absolutely not. I mean, I come from obviously my own standpoint is I need to make my deadlines. This is great for the deadlines. I am sorry I have to be selfish about it. I also think it's great for the fans. I don't think we're trimming the fat out of the game. So I don't think the fans will mind if two and a half hour game instead of a three hour or if it's a Red Sox Yankee game of four hour game. I think it's more action, better for the fans, better for me. I did hear a couple other writers. I won't name them or taking up the cause of the players. They hear the complaints. I mean, I'm sorry. They're able to do it in the minor leagues. It's better for the game. It's better for all of us. If we keep the 15 seconds, do not tweak it. This is a home run for Major League Baseball. This is the WBC was. If you want to make that one exception where a guy's made a great play at the end of the last half inning and at the run in and quickly go to bed, give them an extra few seconds. That's fine. That won't affect anything except be a little more fair, but let's not change what is great. It doesn't make any sense to me. Quickly, John, do you expect the popularity of the WBC to have any impact on attendance or TV ratings for Major League Baseball this season? You know, it might a little bit. I think so. You know, people got excited about this. And the finish was perfect. I mean, it was like scripted and I think it certainly drew a lot of attention. I mean, the Italy, Japan game, got 48 million viewers. That's incredible a quarterfinal game that's a, you know, perceived to be going to be a route, Italy versus Japan. This game had better timing. I think we would have said a record. They would have set a record and I think it's baseballs off to a great start. I mean, right now, you know, for all the criticism that he gets, rob Manfred can, you know, be pretty excited about the way things are going and Major League Baseball. John will let you go just on the way out, so the obviously, you know, we heard that tani is the great unicorn and he'll make a ton of money, but the mighty Casey, in this case, Mike Trout struck out. There's no joy in mudville. How? How will these guys be perceived moving forward? Does that hurt in any way trout status as Mickey Mantle and is Babe Ruth gonna make even more money once he fits? The record for free agents 360 million by judge. This guy is certainly going to, I think 500 million is the baseline right now for ohtani, it's going to be incredible to see yeah, I don't think one strikeout against the guy throwing a hundred with a slider should be really counted against my crowd. If you look at the numbers, they are Mickey Mantle like other than the fact he hasn't been in World Series mantle one I think 7 World Series right near 18 home runs in the World Series. Look at the regular season numbers, the speed the fact that the center Fielder, you know, I guess mental switch hitter, but they're fairly comparable on the stats. So, you know, I don't think one strikeout is going to do any harm to drought in ohtani at this moment is the king of baseball. I don't think there's any question about that. And he will be the king of free agency. Great stuff, John, great catching up with you really looking forward to getting to the real stuff. Thanks, John.

"I think they were the favorite going in. I would say there are four great great starters going in this tournament. I'm sorry, 6th grade starters, and they had four of them. Sasaki certainly and Yamamoto with Darvish and ohtani of course of Tony closed last night, so he could do anything he wants, but those four plus rheas and Alcantara really 6 aces, 6 of the best pictures in the world were in this tournament four of them, 14 Japan. I mean, some of it is the way MLB does things, but I mean, Darvish reus and Alcantara are MLB pitchers and they pitch just kind of the mindset of the American players and the fact that they want to be cautious and be ready for the season and not take any chances. I mean, we did see what happened with Diaz. There is a little bit extra of an injury risk over this compared to spring training, perhaps, although guys together in the spring training guys get hurt doing anything. But I think it's more of the mindset. We did not have coal. We did not have the Grom. We did not have Scherzer, Verlander, cease, freed, burns, Bieber. I mean, you can go up and down that list. Our top 12 pitchers were not there. Our ace was in Adam Wainwright, who's got huge heart and was got it up to 89 with the adrenaline. I mean, when he got to spring training he was doing 84, but I mean, at this moment, we really did not have a great pitching staff. Someone who was a former WBC player said it was our weakest pitching staff ever at WBC. I'm not sure about that, but I mean, give credit to all the guys who are willing to do it and get for our country, but I'm not sure there's anything that can be done about it because I think it's about the mindset because there were MLB pictures in this tournament just not for the United States. John, let's talk about Mark derosa for a moment. So total provincial thought I was ticked off when you pinch it for Tim Anderson. But I don't want that to color my entire perception and evaluation of the job that he did. Because I thought Tim Anderson let him back, you know, get on base whatever the case. So Mark derosa, terrific broadcaster, did he have a good WBC and do you think that the experience will spark his interest in becoming a manager if one job opens at the end of this season? Yeah. I mean, I think there were a couple of jobs that he would be interested in doing. If I were to guess, at some point, you know, maybe the Padres are the cubs, you know, some particular team. He is a pretty good gig and MLB network. He's a star of that show, which is an excellent and one of our most not our most popular show, the central MLB central and it's an easier life, I think he saw that. He's told me before the game that he's deactivating that social media after this one. He was kidding or not, but I mean, you know, I think it's impossible to judge because, you know, he's told by the teams what pictures he can use which day, how much they can use him. Once he gets someone warmed up, they have to come in the game, he obviously did not get a great pitching staff, whether it's the weakest, I don't know, but you know, I don't think you can really judge in any way. I mean, other than the press conferences, which he was great at. Obviously, but the managing is really not judging. I don't think. So we don't know. Certainly that a great personality got a great way. I do think the team liked him. You know, I think he'd be great in the Clubhouse but in terms of strategy, don't know. I mean, maybe I'm a provincial New Yorker, but I thought McNeil made sense in that situation. Sorry about that. That's okay. I don't think you can judge. I don't think you can judge it all. And I think it's hard for him to give up a gig like that. He's got on TV. So we've got a family, maybe two kids go off to college, maybe different, but at this point, I think it would be difficult for him to do it. And McNeil did walk, man, and we don't want to lose sight of the fact that it worked. Right. But I agree. I wasn't happy either. I mean, they're both great hitters. I mean, Anderson's got the best batting average of his 5 years, McNeil won the batting title. It's a lovely writing situation. I think it was a logical move. I know Chicago's not happy, but sorry about that. Okay, John, so that was incredibly dramatic and it was really fun. But the reality is now we're a week away. And, you know, there's going to be the new rules, and then there's talk about, do you have to tweak them, apparently the Players Association has heard from a lot of players and, you know, it's kind of comical, the idea that what if I'm involved in a great defensive play at the end of an inning and then all of a sudden I got a lead off, do I get an extra 5 seconds or three seconds? It just seems like everybody has sort of these little tweak type concerns and nothing major does baseball have to throw a couple bones to the Players Association just to make sure that everything goes according to hoyle or should they stick to their guns. And now the weather expect partly cloudy skies with an excellent chance of maximum refunds. Wait, that can't be right. Oh, but it is. Who are you? I'm April.

Network and John joins us now is all guests too on the score hot. I'm brought to you by circa resort and casino in Las Vegas home of the world's largest sportswear. Okay, John, good morning. How are you? I'm good, are you guys doing? I gotta tell ya, you know, we were amazed at both the last two games in the world baseball classic in certainly the title game where it's ohtani against trout, the last out of the game, two outs, full count, the whole bit, it was, it was just a great moment for the game. Absolutely. And yeah, I mean, arguably the two best players in the world. I would say they are the two best. I guess someone could make a case for Aaron judge, but two teammates, you know, ohtani, I'm going to make a case for one of the greatest players of all time. I think that's probably already in that category and just incredible pitch on three and two. Slider, all the way across the plate, probably was a ball in the end, but I mean, the guy's just an amazing talent. I mean, even that batting practice, I watched yesterday, it was unbelievable. I'm at Marlins park a lot. I've never seen balls hit like this. They were all the way to the back wall. Incredible. It was like golf balls watching someone hit 5 irons and just the bulges disappeared incredible. Great moment for baseball, WBC worked out great and just the perfect ending to it. John, in terms of the stakes, the drama, the atmosphere with the fans and the interest worldwide. You've covered everything. How does what you covered last night compared to other events? Yeah, I mean, it was great. It was great. It was great. And the WBC started as kind of like a niche tournament in 2006. And only a few of us were covering it. Now when they have 2000 meteors, something like that, and I think if the game wasn't on at 8 20 a.m. in Japan, I think it had been on later in Japan, maybe would have set a record for the most watched baseball game ever, so I told me 1980 World Series game 6 was, I think, number one, certainly that cubs game 7 where they broke the 108 year jinx was up there, but I mean, this was in that category. Greatest game I ever saw still in person 1991, game 7, small to was there last night as the announcer versus Morris, that World Series game 7, I'm still ranked at number one, but this is up there. So we were talking about just the difficulty of getting pitching to commit given the time in the season when they hold this event. And obviously, when you look at Japan, they did not lose a game, and they dominated with their pitching as much as anything throughout the tournament they didn't put up massive scores, but man they pitched well and they led the tournament in ERA and whip and opponents batting average. They also struck out 80 and had 11 walks in 7 games. That is pretty incredible.

"It's home. Ground ball towards the middle Glove by one afflicted the young Wow, what a play. He just saved a run from scoring the backhand with the flip to Paul, the young covering the second base bag, and Kim and the Cardinals escape the bottom of the sixth. 85561616 20. That's the Ankita mortgage talking tax line. You can tweet into the program as well. We continue discuss Kolten. Wong, becoming a member of the Milwaukee Brewers mentioned Sturgeon Bay texting him. Matter. You surprised the Brewers would spend that much for a second baseman. How long have you been convinced Hero would not be the second basement and 2021? No, I'm not shocked. They would spend that kind of money. And actually, so the option he had with the Cardinals was, I believe for $12 million if I remember correctly. And they turned down the $12 million option. And I think it was mostly shock that they did that. I could tell you Cardinals fans at the time were not happy. Now, if somebody at the time when he told the Cardinal fan Hey, this move is going to be made. And, Oh, yeah, By the way you're gonna get Nolan are not only in a few months in the Rockies is gonna send $50 million along with him. At that point, Cardinal fans may have been a little bit more understanding of them, not spending the $12 million and pulled him long. But that's what his option wasn't and I think most people around baseball thoughts. That the $12 million for one year on Wong was a very reasonable number, and there's a little bit of surprise that they didn't pick up that option, and they start to pay him a million dollars to to go away by not picking up that option. So the deal as has been reported for long. This is I believe it's AH Ken Rosenthal had the contract details again. Nothing's official yet two years worth $18 million. And then there's an AH third year option that could take the contract to a total value of $26 million if they pick up that third year option. So what the third year option would be worth and doing a quick math $8 million. But he's gonna make $9 million a year or or total of $18 million Over the first two years, however, that ends up being spread out between between the two years. It's pretty good deal. I d. Oh, you gotta You gotta go. Go up second baseman who? Um, It's got a pretty solid bat. And you're paying him $9 million. I think that's a good move. And I think more importantly, It's about what he does for your club and the needs of your club. The Brewers need more guys that don't strike out. Halted long doesn't strike out. The Brewers could use an improvement in second base defense. I think testing here was getting better. I think he would have continued to get better, and he might not be done. It's second base. We don't know what's gonna happen in the future, but his defense still did leave a little something to be desired. He was not a top tier. Defense of second basement and at times that did cause issues. So now that goes away, so now they're not just spending $9 million a year on Colton Wong. Specifically, they're spending $9 million a year. You have a guy in the lineup that doesn't strike out and spending $9 million a year to shore up second base defense. I think that's that's important and that's a that's a good allocation of money. In my opinion. How long have I been convinced that tested here would not be the second basement in 2021. Right. What time did the Colton Wong News come down yesterday was like three o'clock in the afternoon. Yes, sometime And I want to say earlier than three. Um, let's see. Here's a Jon Heyman tweet in talks of the Brewers and I time stamping at 12 35, so it could have been any longer than that. Anyone? Everyone 1 37. I have been convinced that testing hero was not going to be the brewer Second basement since 1 30 yesterday afternoon that that's the point. I'm trying to make you like I'd read the quotes from David Stern's where he said that there was a possibility that here could move over to first base. I, um, I To be perfectly honest with you. I didn't put a lot of stock in that at that moment. I should have because now we see what happened. And now maybe those words were kind of telegraphing to move That was gonna happen. But I didn't put a whole lot into that at that moment in time, so no, I never I didn't see this coming. But now that it's here It's good, and I liked the fact I like the fact that the Brewers are willing to I don't want to use the term. Think outside the box because I think that's a really cliche term. But I like the way this is the same organization. That when they acquired Mike Moustakas a couple years ago, mid season what they do. Hey, Travis Shaw, go play second base. We're gonna teach you how to play second base middle of the season, middle of a pennant race. You know, we're gonna teach you to play second base because we think it's gonna make the team better. So they're not afraid to do things that are a little bit wacky. That are a little bit different. Hey, we're gonna go. We're gonna start brain and Woodruff forever throw throw to a guy in a playoff game just to get the other team to set up their lineup, And then we're gonna switch handedness of the pitcher like stuff like that. Where could you find an advantage? You made the team better by getting Colton Wong. Now you've got to put all the pieces together and the piece that makes sense is casting here going to first. 85561616 28 5561616 20. It's the accurate markets Talk attacks line. You can tweet into the program as well. At Matt, Paulie on air. We're going to a shift gears. We want to talk about whether or not the baseball season is going to be starting on time. That became a bit more a question this past week, right now, it still looks like it probably will, but it certainly is not guaranteed. We'll get into that coming up next. But the thing thing is is You don't know how to play first base. Scott. That's right. It's not that hard, Scott Tell him wash. It's incredibly hard. Hey, anything worth doing is and we're gonna teach you more brewers weekly with Matt Polly coming.

"I am Ken Group proud to be with So, um Middle of the afternoon. Yesterday it was announced that the Philadelphia Phillies have re signed D D Gregorius former Reds farm hand one time hot prospect in the Reds organization traded away in 2013. Believe when the Reds needed a center fielder stopgap died before they got Billy Hamilton out there. One of the Shin Soo to trade Anyway. Gregorius went to the Yankees had some success had some injury issues. Phil signed him last year for 14 million free agent. And the Reds were said to be in play for him. But no, he signs with the Phillies two years $28 Million.2 years $28 million Yeah. And with that the free agent market has dried up on them. Well yesterday after that good Gregorius re signing and Philadelphia went down. The Reds. Did a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. Knowing that they already had rig aureus and no room for their shortstop and waiting. My mother name of Kyle Holder. Hey, was a Yankees prospect traded, not traded but to selected in the Rule five draft. I don't want to get too deep into what baseball Metrics are but Rule five draft basically is you get to the winter baseball meetings, and each team makes players available for selection by other teams. That player has to stay on that major league roster of the team that selected him. For the entire next season, or he has to be offered back to that team or placed on waivers anyway. Uh, this Kyle holder guy 26. I don't believe he's played above double a baseball. And he'll be 27 at some point this season. And when people saw that and rightfully so, they're saying, Who is he? Well, nobody seems to know other than he was just somebody that at one point was highly regarded by the Yankees, and they just basically punted on him. So the Reds find themselves based without a shortstop Jose Garcia, But if they're trading for someone named Kyle holder, they're not completely sold on Jose Garcia. Nor should they be. Get 1 94 last year. According to Jon Heyman, who is a correspondent. Movie rights Now for The MLB network. Anyway. Jon Heyman is reporting that the Reds were still hoping to land Ahmed Rosario from Cleveland. Cleveland set itself up nicely in the ability to trade resort Leo in a trade that they just made. With the New York Mets, so there may be the next road for the Reds. Either way, it's the only way they're going to get anybody that that can acquit themselves well, but at that position right now. Is through trade, and that means we're going to have to give up something. And this is a team that really doesn't have a lot of wiggle room and giving up anything. It's a mess is a mess. All of this In light of the 2021 season. It's upon us in a couple of weeks, spring training opens up The Cardinals dramatically improve themselves over the weekend, the Cubs were spending a little bit of money. Now the Brewers look like they at best held water or or basically fell below water level and the pirates of the pirates there. Basically a 4 18. So what does it look like for the red? Statistically at this point that may project into next season? Well, that's a great question for my next guest. He is a soothsayer, a complete suit sale. When it comes to things in baseball, he can see the future or so he would let you believe. With his zips projections. He's dancing Borski. He's been doing this a very long time, using metrics from the year before and trying to apply them for projections in the upcoming season. He joins us now. Here on 700 wlw the aforementioned dancing Borski. The suit's there. How are you on this glorious Sunday? Dad? I'm doing well. Can't I Can't. I can't. Claim to be a student there, But I guess the stat nerd is the best description. Well, I mean, you're so big you You even have your own sabermetric, which I think is hilarious. Ze War is just the way you you factor in all of this stuff. I don't I think it's really You did name it after yourself, right? Yeah, but I gave it is even though my last name begins with the whole issue there, But that's the whole thing. You name it after yourself. That's how big you are. Okay, let's talk about you get the Reds had glaring weaknesses after last year. They had trouble scoring runs as you point out in a very hitter friendly ballpark, and they had a glaring need for 2021 for shortstop, and it seems to me there hasn't been anything done since the end of last season to address either one of those things has there. No, I mean this team is losing Shover. Bowers is this offseason and that's that's already a big loss. But the team is 13th in the NL in runs scored in 2020 with playing in a hitter's park. They have, You know good players, every position, but there's no real star talent. And you look at short to be like kind of the best opportunity to upgrade. There are a lot of interesting shortstop's available, uh, Kim Saman, but there have been some good names out there and It's just mostly passed by Cincinnati and I'm a little worried about you know where they stand going into 2021. Well, let's get into the zips you got you had to go Suarez, who still relatively young starting third baseman. Well, you have him having a a decent year. I think you've got him in 34 107. I just wondering is, Does this team offensively rise and fall on Au Haiti? Oh, Suarez. I don't know if if it rises with him, But he is necessary for the team, because if he if he had an injury or they traded him, then the offense really looked bleak. Uh, there's just not a lot of star talent pushing that team of Florida and every you know, good offense generally has one or two of those guys. You can really do that. He's you know, the most valuable offensive player of the team. I don't think you can count on. You know Joey Votto to be a star anymore. He always has, You know, little comeback seasons. Every fill often, but.

I've also written about the Hall of Fame. The voting process. The case for bonds and Clemens the case for Scott Rolen, and more all at 700 wlw dot All right, let's begin here and I'll open up the lines right out of the Shu. Because I want to talk some reds that was a solid hour of baseball from 6 to 7. It was predominantly Hall of Fame. Lets do reds Now you've had a chance to let it sink in and process. The fact that Marcus Simeon is out Andrelton Simmons is out. The Korean Star shortstop is out. Freddy Galvis is out. And the Reds are currently out a shortstop. We know the issues with the offensive year ago they hit 2 12 1 of the worst offenses in the history of rights baseball. We know what the obvious upgrade was for this team in the off season to get a shortstop. The musical chairs We talked about last night it spends and it spends in it. It stops and seats or grabbed, and now it stops and and the Reds are or left looking, and they don't have anybody. Phillies also need somebody. That leaves Didi Gregorius as The loan for the most part, the lone free agent option at shortstop. They're certainly trade options is a possibility. But I think we all agree and the Reds have made this clear. That's why they're pursuing shortstop Jose Garcia. They love him. They just don't love him enough Right now. The put him in a position to be in everyday shortstop in Major League baseball in 2021. They didn't really want to do it last year, they eventually had to. They did it, and it was tough to watch. It's got a glove. There's no question about that. He batted 67 times. Last year, he struck out 26 times He hit 1 94. He played in 24 games. He walked once. You want once in 24 games. Again. They love him. Perfect, perfect world. He is their opening day shortstop of 2022. But no team with hopes dreams, aspirations of being in contention in 2021. Is going to feel the team with Jose Garcia at shortstop. The young man has not taken in it bad at double A. He hasn't taken it back at Triple A They jumped him from high a last year and three men. The deep end of major league baseball, double A is the most important development level of a minor league baseball player. He blew right past that to the major leagues. Kyle Farmer. Everybody likes He's not an everyday shortstop. He's just not. I mean, they nontendered him to begin with. They sign him to a split contract. He makes exit the place in the majors this year he makes except spends a place in the minors This year. He's versatile. He can play multiple positions, but he's not an everyday shortstop, and he certainly can't hit well enough. He certainly can't hit right handed pitching well enough to be considered a legitimate everyday shortstop in Major League baseball. Oh, by the way, he's played Ah, just short of 90 innings at the position, and he will be 30 in the upcoming season again. If you have hopes and dreams and aspirations of a contending in a division you don't have Kyle firmer as your everyday shortstop. So riddle me this Batman. One of the Reds do Jon Heyman says the number is looking at two years. 30 million. Sell Jim Boden today on the athletic guest. Two years 24 million. Again back to that perfect world. The Reds could get somebody plug him in for this year is a stopgap the bridge and then hand things off the Jose Garcia in 2022. The Reds got the worst, arguably the worst production of any team in major league baseball last year at shortstop, Depending on which metric. Do you look at it was the Reds of the worst or the Pirates? The worst And if the Pirates were the words the Reds with the second worst They need a shortstop. What do you want him to do? We'll run through some scenarios is we come back and grab some of your calls? 5137491 7800, the big £1.700 on a TNT were going to learn something very interesting about this team about this ownership. Over the next month, maybe month. Plus, maybe they don't have their shortstop by the start of spring training the first game, But one month from today they played their first game. Who do you want is.

MLB network's Jon Heyman reports Hasaan Kim's Padres contract $28 million over four years with incentives that could drive the deal to 32 million. Kim and infielder from the Kubo and Bianca Smith becomes the first black woman to coach in professional baseball. Reportedly joining the Red Sox might early staff. I'm Seth Cantor, whereas all yours bag Seth, I do want to mention the Miami Dolphins here is we talked about their winning in scenario. With the buffalo Bills and look the NFL. All systems are a go. They never had to create that week. 18 that are we swore we would have to create. Remember the fear factor of us. Why is the NFL doing this? Why are we playing on Tuesdays? Just have the week 18. The NFL kind of, well, half that all of you would say we're going to keep trying, and we're gonna keep doing this and we got to a week 17. But along the way of the NFL doing this I mean, did they look hypocritical or not? I mean, let's face it when they when they postponed the Thanksgiving night game between the Ravens and Steelers because of the Ravens positives, it was surely the right move. Itwas The end of playing the game. What, on the following Tuesday or Wednesday? I mean, I was tracking how far they push that the Steelers seemed seemingly it felt like they've been out of funk ever since that game. Pushed away on the schedule, but With that It feels like certain teams and certain games have gotten different treatment and they're a bit different rules. When it comes to covert protocols and people testing positive and how you do the tracing and And everything that goes with it now the Denver Broncos if you remember earlier this year Had Quarterbacks. I believe it was one quarter their quarterbacks tested positive Which'll. It might have been drew lock. Don't want to speculate. In case you didn't test positive but or whatever it was, at least in the close contact tracing the NFL basically punished the Denver Broncos. They didn't end up taking that game with the New Orleans Saints that week and pushing it to a Tuesday night. Let's say Because the Bronco's was so buried and so out of it so irrelevant football team this year they made the Denver Broncos take the field with a wide receiver playing quarterback. What about that They had the point. It was a joke. It was a joke. It was candle hidden, who had the play quarterback who is a rookie wide receiver? And the Broncos, basically uncompetitive in the NFL basically used Denver as kind of this example off. We're not going to fool around. You will be punished if you don't follow protocols, and the Broncos got punished for it. Was a mask violation. Thank you, Frank. Mask violation. All right, great. So they punished the Denver Broncos, and they kind of send that message. Well, let's face it. It's a fake punishment, because if the if the Denver Broncos were, let's say that week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and it was supposed to be a marquee game versus New Orleans Saints. Do you think that they would have made the Buccaneers play with a rookie wide receiver quarterback in the game that could have determined who was going to win the division in the NFC South? No, they would not have So the NFL I don't think was streamlined at all with how they've handled it. And now the reason I bring this up We talked about the top of the hour. All these women in scenarios for these FC wildcard hopefuls and in the A F C south with the Titans and the Colts, and how we don't know basically two through seven, wherever it is gonna be seated because again, the bills are stealers. Could flip flop and we don't know on the outside. If the Colts get in who's gonna be a little place? There's so much left to be decided about the FC playoff field. What we find out that Ryan Fitzpatrick has tested positive for covert 19. Now look, the virus doesn't stop because the NFL playoffs going to stop and they're surely surely. Could be an NFL team. That come the postseason because you know, the NFL is gonna play these games. Guys test positive. You're going to play with the guys who don't test positive They're going to make sure these playoff games get played. There will be no delaying their will play three wild go. They won't play five wild card games and say, You know what? We're gonna play this wild card game the next week. Everybody else gets another by. No, No, no, no, no. They're gonna play games start next week in the postseason. Ryan Fitzpatrick test positive for covert 19 and they do the contact tracing How is it? That if they're truly through the contact tracing, how is it that Ryan Fitzpatrick in the same meeting room? Same vicinity of all the other quarterbacks in the Miami Dolphin roster, including two of and they've Jake Rue Doc, too? How is it? At the NFL can honestly say That they know for a fact. They don't for effect to a rude AKC. All right, basically in close proximity to Fitzpatrick it all when he would have had the virus that seems to go against everything we've been told this all year, the year 2020 about being clean clothes contacted us, quarantining others shutting down And it goes against everything that the NFL did when it came to the match violation with the Denver Broncos. Why're the Miami Dolphins not taking the field this week with whoever they could throw together at wide receiver playing quarterback like the Broncos? That's why, because it's a marquee game for the NFL for the Dolphins and bills, and they know that the playoffs are on the line. That's why Is the NFL. As much as I applaud them, and I have so grateful we got the NFL week in and week out. I am so grateful that so many people said you can't play the NFL. What are we doing? We're in a pandemic. You can't play football. The pandemic. I'm so glad we got it because we needed entertainment. How many times can you re watch Tiger King? I mean, really? Much. They are so all over the place with their rules so all over the place. Don't give me that. Well, they have the bracelets and the the anklets on and they could tell when he's been close to people. I'm sorry. Have we not been told their whole lives? These quarterbacks working close contact. So now we're just going to assume Ryan Fitzpatrick on Lee got it on. Lee came in contact with whoever gave him Coleman on their days off following the Raider game, and he hadn't been to the facility, so he wasn't near anybody because that's basically what they're leading you to believe. Maybe that maybe that is the case met. We will take him at face value that maybe it is. The case may be But isn't it a little bit of a stretch to believe that if I'm a Denver Bronco fan, and again, I know that it was another rebuilding year for the Broncos. They can't figure out that quarterback situation anyway with John Elway. What? He just feels that the Denver Broncos really got hose that we first.
