Click Funnels and Branding With Henry Kaminski

"My guest. Today is henry kamensky. Henry gotta start as a self taught graphic designer and eventual brand consultant defying the odds to build a multi million dollar business over twelve years. He's brought his particular expertise that building click funnels to a remarkably diverse range of business owners and professionals from musician. Jon bon jovi and fabio vivani to internet marketing expert russell brunson the latter of whom named henry the million dollar brand dr. Thanks so much for joining me today. Henry diane what an intro. Thank you so much for having me. you are welcome. Thanks so much. Purveying here so i wanna to start with. I have a question for you that branding and then you know i have a bunch of other questions for you but We will go from there. So we'll you explain to the listeners. How branding helps with sales conversion absolutely. So let's define branding the best way that i've learned it as a person expert in this space for over fourteen years. It's the gut feeling people get when they interact with you. Your business product or service. It's that old saying you know what they say about you. After you leave the room that is ranting at its best and i got this definition from mardi new mayer. He is a god in the branding. Space he's wrote books like the brand gap the brand flip And a few others. And when i came across that definition from him it really really resonated with me so when a lot of people think of branding they think of colors think of what it looks like and the the logo and website and all that stuff. Those are your brand assets but brand. Is that feeling that connection that experience that people receive when they come in contact with your business.

"Like things on the radio Rock music in that way wasn't in the brightest light in and of that moment from eighty six with slippery till probably close to ninety. Rock and roll. Had a resurgence. A big. you know big wave. Yeah thanks in part to you. Can't say it because you're a humble person but thanks in large part to you must have felt so what would the were those the years that was just like nonstop. We're on this level that four other people can relate to were those years. Yeah my brother. The hedonistic eighties. Where everything that they said they were and being in a rock band and being jon. Bon jovi in iraq bent was pretty fucking good. I it's funny i i. I'm sure people always dance around that with you. I i would imagine they because everyone wants to know you just like you did when you work. Everybody wants to know what that feels like. There's no way to ask that. And i'm sure there's no way to really answer it without you gotta get into some stuff again am so far removed from the it that i was never not right not me but the truth is you could tell a little bit more of the truth without giving it all away and the truth is we had a lot of fun. Yeah yeah with when when it was happening when it was like the most fund. Do you remember thinking. Do you ever have that moment. Where you're like i. This is this is the best. It's never gonna like this. It can't get any better than this and like we're going to look back at work and so we should soak it up. We should enjoy i it. Every you're asking even from the professional journalists asking the musician the question. I think every step of the way from the block dance to the club to the first record to that slippery when wet moment. He thought that that was the highlight. And then you couldn't believe that a kept getting better and from the final standpoint. It just always got better until you. Didn't you know until you found other things to to keep you happy to have fun with so right. You know this was. This was good work. Good work if you could get it and and we enjoyed every minute of it while still showing up for work. That's the thing. Yeah right right right that some. That's probably a very fine line to walk. I was listening john. Have you heard the podcasters. It's called The winds of change about the scorpions. Yes you on that plane. Were you on that tour. I was the one closed in. The show's pal. Yeah my god. What i mean. Forget the plane. Forget the flight but what what was it like being over there did you do. Did you guys understand them. "They have a quiet and so i had a sent him. The song had isis. Our military are going to use this. I rooted for a documentary. Would you wanna do this. And he says i get it and so we went to abbey road just a year ago and recorded the song so we come back here. It's the first week of what becomes coverted. Things started to to get crazy. And the shutdown happening. I pull the plug on the record. I then decide to cancel outright the tour. Because i'm concerned that people need their money for credit cards in rent and things like that and now voting this record but the The the idea of being topical is making more and more sense to me. So i consider that i could open up can of worms again dig deeper into a bunch of these songs and i started to tweak them and then it went. Covert went into lockdown. Do what you can About the covert crises. And then after the george floyd death. I couldn't help but right american reckoning so now this record that i initially thought twenty twenty was clear vision. And how cute will it be for a campaign. Poster turned into a very topical of serious record. But one that. I am very proud of because i think it marks a moment in time is sure and it's so great for you're able to go back to go back in there and headed come out and you missed an opportunity to to really speak about. What was all the changes that were down please. Yeah it's the bitch about this. One justin is that he put it out in this vacuum. The known as twenty twenty and and it's sorta heartbreaking because you know two years work went into it and yeah it's out and i can't hear it and you can't even go to a tv show in play or or anything. I know you gotta do these shitty. Podcast talk about what i know. Johnny must be so weird for you. I mean somebody who is. I'm sure has derived so much joy from playing and you've played the best venues and and that's the thing right you you to run album best. Just like how it goes. It must be so weird over. Just sit because. I don't know that into the record. I know the fan base really like it but when you can't go out and work it it's not like i sit in the house listening to the radio you know it's like it's very hard right to wrap my head around that the records out right and for songs like how else do you tell whether you're actually playing them..

"Let me go. And because the drinking age in new jersey was eighteen. This is really key to my success because the drinking age was eighteen. You could be sixteen and seventeen when you just got good enough to play in a bar. That was instrumental. That was because you could go there and watch. You could go there and participate. You could go there and actually have a direction in an idea of who you want it to be. And so by the time i graduated high school there was no plan. B there was no playing well foot and that and what was it. John lewis was. I mean if you can reduce it to something like a feeling. Was it just a feeling of being on stage. Was it the the the the atmosphere the girls the the everything in your youth. The naive church sure it was girl. Yeah i think that there was this just kind of it kind of rebellion that if school was setting up for the cubicle. And that's what life was and it wasn't an adventure dan. What's the point. It and we had a very nice very easy middle-class new jersey upbringing it certainly. Wasn't you know the wrong side of the tracks but all of our families had to work two jobs you know like my my mother and father worked six days a week to make sure that we had roof and food and all they could buy me a guitar but it so that that kind of work ethic was instilled in you but the idea of me doing that and i remember it in the late seventies you get a phone call from the recruiting officer the service and they say we've got an idea come and see the world joined the navy and my three best friends said yes at news four of us and my three best friend said yes and i was like not unless the uniforms come in different colors and i can grow. My is the wise. Got as there's no chance i'm playing tuesday and thursday. And and so they. Truly the only way out was to join the service. And i was going to be in a row so and it was So the sense that. You're you'd be confined ya. I remember having that fear. And i don't know how i was exposed to it because my dad was a teacher and my mom was an actress. Struggling actress but a good actress but i had this fear of being drone fear of Even being in a cubicle that that always being confined like that always really freaked me out and that must have been. I would imagine just wanting the freedom the freedom of the beautiful thing about that eighteen year old comment i made before was that i didn't have to get that far down the road where i had to worry about someone else or a paycheck when you're sixteen in the avid. You're not still in high school. I was able to come home at night. You know but When you come home at night i just. I did something better than i did yesterday. Or you know because we lived so close to asbury park and it encouraged live music and southside johnny. And and bruce springsteen were already established big fire standards virus standards big recording artists and there were so many guys in each of those bands chances. Are you literally walk into him. On the boardwalk in a nightclub it does not shed. Yeah i bruce jumped on stage in the. I was seventeen years old ganapati. Those were are beatles l. My god and john when that happened are you. You must are us. Awestruck are you had you ever met him socially now. I mean this is the guy that wrote..

"Contract. Career now I have a son Sunday eighth grade. Yeah. Like I. Yeah. Has Friends but I I think that doesn't happen too often. Yeah. Two boys express their feelings as much as we did I I hope we're living in a time now or that's getting more acceptable. Yeah, and that boys can be more openly. Affectionate in each other's yearbooks in style. It's really interesting when I hear that I was well intentioned but also it's already one of my character defects coming out which is like. Basically telling him how he should be in he's already feeling bad that was doing things and I'm now amplifying that and I'm kind of taking this position of I know what's best for? Yeah. Yeah. Really. Like that. But yeah. Yeah. When you're feeling bad and in scared and you're making bad decision making bad decisions because you don't believe in yourself and then so. The way to help and be like you're GONNA lose every. Fifteen Minute High Ever, read those sentences and read it with that tone. Only read it as. You were worried about I was worried about you I love you and then ninth and tenth grade we kind of grew apart and then Aaron ended up getting sober. I feel like that's how we started hanging again and then so we would go to these meetings together and then we got back in love and we were sobered together all of twelfth grade and we took all these crazy road trips and we lived in the car, and then we graduated high school the Guy, and then we live in the car for like six months and drove around the country and then. I moved here and that was a hurdle but also, so it wasn't too big of a hurdle. We every time I went home I spent every single day with Aaron and spend the whole summer there and then I got so bright twenty nine. And Erin de.

"Naturally I have to imagine most of your career you've been like, why would I ate half the people? Certainly it wasn't. As bad back then as it is now, but was that ever part of your analysis like I've got a different thing I want to spread and I want to keep it as open to as many people's possible. Well. That would be an obvious answer especially when I was a younger guy when you had single minded focus, which is simply to make records in entertain people. I would often bring up an example. So Baez probably right at my age, he's a couple of months older I. Think. His upbringing was obviously very different than mine. I never had the Orangemen walking through my neighborhood the saying you know, get the Catholic and beat them up. You know I didn't have any of that kind of turmoil in suburban New Jersey. When you had a wonderful middle class upbringing with two hardworking parents. So of course, you're writing the happy anthem song although runaway really think about how to social consciousness to talking about the girl is on the street corner while I was looking up to get off the bus and walked ten blocks to the recording studio is the gopher and I was aware of the world around me, but I chose not to get involved. and. I don't blame myself. I was twenty one years old and that's all I had to live for. Yeah. Also, very defendable. Here's my point on politics. I have very strong political opinions, but there are many people that are outspoken right so if I don't do this thing, I would like to do it's Okay Bill Maher's doing it. So there's part of me. That's like everyone's got a little bubble they're going to specialize and you don't have to you don't have to be in every bubble and I think that's a little bit defendable, which is people need a reprieve in so and they deserve a reprieve. You know there's GonNa be some trouble for me on this record writers. Ri- have evolved. Sitting here, dyeing my hair blonde and pretending to be twenty-five I'm fifty years old and you know what I stand for. But now we're the record is defensible. Is that if you really listen closely to every song, it doesn't take sides. Yeah I am. A witness to history. Take sides I know what my opinions are and so do you but I don't take sides. There's a song on this record called lower the flag and I was just appalled the to shoot happened on Saturday night and Sunday morning..

"Nice to get it right Okay I wanNA talk about the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation Yeah. Well, let me back up I i. read about you one, hundred, thirty, million albums and I go. That's bonkers that can't even happen ever again good for you that you did it exactly when you did. Yeah. You perform for over forty million fans in fifty countries bonkers right. But then I start reading about the Jon Bon Jovi stations like equally insane stuff. You guys since two thousand and six have provided seven hundred units of affordable housing and eleven different states you built seventy seven homes and game to previously homeless Veterans Right in partnership with Walter Reed. And then nine years ago you open up the soul kitchen in red bank and then a second one in Tom's river and you served over one hundred, thousand meals I wanNA know what's driving you any one of those numbers you could be like, I'm good one, hundred, thirty, million, and forty, million. It's time for me to be fed. One hundred, thousand people i. put the however many families and houses what's in the furnace? What keeps you so engaged. I think it's a bit of it as Catholic guilt to be honest. But part of it is just because we know how. So we do when I started the foundation had a partner in Marina football team many many years ago and I loved and it was fun and I thought with my marketing hat on how do I appreciate myself to the community and I said be more philanthropic trust anybody and so we took some money out of our pockets, my partner, Craig and I and we gave it to a bunch of charities and then I found focus one night when I was. In this hotel and I was looking down at a man sleeping on a great to keep warm outside of city, Hall and I said, there's the focus it's homelessness and I asked my best friend Obi defined me someone in Philadelphia, teach me about the issue little. "Very special to the very few people who get them in the organization and they never changed you know they could have been all big bling by now. But there this little thing he was important in my life, how many have you given out of those? You know yeah about one, hundred and twenty in the one, hundred thirty maybe in thirty five years. So there are a hundred and twenty people who have been with you around the world twice and never showed up sick right it's a big deal in our little world to earn one. This is already getting at what? I'm curious about which is the sustainability of your thing I'm so interested when Howard interviews musicians because there's so many predictable pitfalls right I mean so many people to come to the exact same stuff and it's like it's ego and identity and youth and all the stuff and something as silly in could seem insignificant is that it's just a statement which is like, yeah, we're rockstars but you fucking punch time clock your dependable you show up there's an element to that I, just you know I'm sure there's a million little things you did along the way that created the sustainability. Oh. Look, there's always another guy that's right outside that door waiting for your job as you knew acting or singing or doing podcasts is no matter what it is there's always another guy that's hungrier or going out work you so in order to. Success, you could get there and have one record or one movie. You can get lucky when you start sticking around after twenty years. Then I'm GonNa pay attention. When you're here for nearly forty then you've got my respect and attention you know. So this is not an easy job. No, it's not easy. Let me back up I love wanted my favorite line of the song is I've seen a million faces and I rocked a mall it's the only Brag. I've ever fucking love because what a gift to rock someone. Should say it man. I love it I. Love It. I love it. Okay. What we experience zero percent level as we perform for about five thousand people we do live shows. It's so exhilarating and then you leave and you go this hotel room and you're like wait I was awesome second ago and I'm alone and it is a very interesting thing the navigate and I just wonder for us. Let you be like in Tokyo I imagine that some arena and there just isn't Going to be a high that competes with that, and then you're back in the hotel room and I just wonder what strategies did you develop over the years to manage that? I? Think part of it was just what you said that challenge of the roar of the crowd, the ringing still in your ears, you do a runner. So you get in the car sweating you get back to the hotel and then it says a boom you and the ringing. So, what are you supposed to do? You know you're not gonNA pay around your room for three or four more hours. You had a fine things to calm yourself down. So whether we'd go to the bar or what have you we would do that for many years but as I got older to be honest with you as hard as I work, it became harder. The physicality like your voice, keeping it in sharp and all that. Yeah. Just last seen so. Vocal rest on tour as you got older and stuff I never understood vocal rest. I think.

"With, me today is my friend. Jon Bon Jovi. I'm so very proud of all the good work that you've done. John, do you see this current food crisis getting any better? It is levelling out some the NITA's definitely there, and who knows what the fall season's going to bring. But our Our intent was to do it as a pilot program for four months, and now we've decided that we've got to continue at least until the end of the year. So we'll finance that and and do it and and it's it's great. It's really great. We're doing it. We're we're really affecting change out here in. Long, island. But that's something that I, never dreamt that I'd have to be doing. So you're giving me chill bumps here. Go back to the numbers. How many people now in the Greater New York area and New Jersey are are being fed by the Pantries, my God, it's gotTa be in the hundreds of thousands, but we the JJ soul foundation took a food bank. and we we created a food bank, and so we get tractor trailers full of food to come to us you buy you are buying. Tractor trailers full of lettuce and tomatoes and potatoes. Yeah. Great Growth, and you're then distributing them through the pantry seven. Did you say seven different pantries? and. Then they give it to the people. So you know by our estimates, it's It's a lot. It's a lot you know and and the need was was dramatic out here, and this is in eastern. Long? Island we're in At our summer home, and so we're we're at Eastern Long Island. Wow Yeah. So besides three full kitchens now we've got a food bank. It's like you're you're giving birth to more than just your four kids. You're giving Bertha. To hope to. An infrastructure. That is blessing and saving lives. Well, it's helping. It's hard to live when you're hungry. Hearts. Charitable. You are too. We've talked about all that before but. You know, we don't need a scientist to find the cure. It's groceries or goodness sake. You know it takes money and sweat. And so that's what we knew. How to do I'm so proud of you. It's fun I like doing it I know. I. Can tell from the videos I've seen in the pictures the that you are. So. Connected to the people and to this and to love and to hope that that it's just it's it's like emanating out of you. It's resonating out of you like like the music comes out of you. It's like A. A BEACON A. a lighthouse on a hill. Well. I thank you. There's no ulterior motive. It's just too good and we did. We continue to and then the gift for me. Is. I got a great song out of it. Well. That's a gift for up for us. I've got a great song. I've watched the video and I love that you put lyrics up there in the video Within like. Twenty seconds you're singing along to it. Goodwill. Isn't that the magic of Song that should make a proper video that's just being. Polished, right now, it's wonderful and and so I got some big surprises to go with the song for the video but. It's all good I just like to get out there and share it because I can't bring it to people's town. So we're going to make sure it's played on the radio I'll make sure that. So when's the drop date for the whole album because you've got the two songs at that were listening to, but there's more, right? Yes. Ma'am finished on October the second. October. Second is now released eight of the record. So it's it's all ready to go. Twenty twenty. It's a very topical record. Everything is about something that you know there's just too many topics that. We. Were all living in the last year. So it's not a boy girl record. It's It's roll up your sleeves and get busy record. It really is. You know it's like the world around us and twenty twenty. It's been very different and I was able to pay attention and write about it. So I know, you don't have a crystal ball none of us do and we have no idea what the next three months or six months is going to hold. But what are you feeling in your gut? Like I know the the whole message is do what you can. But what are you feeling in your heart that right now people should hang onto. I. Wished that. Without getting. Myself in trouble. Is that. Americans because that's what we all are those when our common thread is, we are all within these borders, those Americans. Have to think about generations that came before us who came together in trying times to succeed to defeat an enemy. Think back to World War. Two. Win Mom's on the production lines fighting a war. If we Can come together and we can defeat this by social distancing and or wearing something like a paper mask. Why can't we just? Respect each other enough to to do that. You know just just know that it's not political. It's not political. Do the right thing for a couple of months of that. We can all go back to what we think is normal. You, know and people are saying it's politicized it. Let's not make politicized. Let's think about generations past and how they sacrifice so that we could have a better place that we called home. Amen. I. Couldn't have said it better myself. I just boils down to respect. Its really simple. I swear to God. It's not redder blue. It's just. Let's try it, and even if you don't agree with, it doesn't mean that it's wrong. So. Try It. You know your mother major, you try foods. You didn't like when you're a kid and then you went out I wasn't so bad. I may not want to eat at the rest of my life, but I did it for your mom to do it for your country. What's so hard? You know? Make sacrifices once in awhile. It's good. Well. Thank you for taking some time I. Know You're busy busy busy. Give My love to your family and to the band and thank you for your music John and just be blast ba well and be blessed I am and I thank you and I love you for this. I. Really appreciate the help I right talk to you soon. All right, only Brooklyn Bon. Jovi, twenty twenty is set to be released this October. You can preorder the album online their new single that pretty much sums up with John. Band, members are all. All about is available for download right now, do what you can do, what you can an inspiring anthem going to be looking at the stuff that's been taken away. But instead focus on what we can do do what needs to be done. That's how we do it. That's how we're GONNA enjoy every day by focusing on what we can do to make the world a better place. Thank you for being with me on. Love someone with the Lila. Join me next time for another fun conversation and thank you Mr Jon Bon Jovi..

Jon Bon Jovi had dreams and vision that went far beyond just being a lead singer in a rock and roll band. He wanted to do more. Bon Jovi has been one of the biggest bands in the world for almost thirty years. They have sold over a hundred million albums and continue to sell out a Rina's instead around the world again and again, and again, and they show no signs of slowing down back in the nineties. When success in fame threatened to tear has banned apart at the seams. John took control and never looked back the themes in his songs optimism, love, and a belief in the power of we are the same core values that he holds most dear in his life. It's what keeps him pushing to reach the next mountaintop. And the one after that. Everybody has a story and there's something to be learned from every experience. Use your life as a class. This is masterclass with Jon Bon Jovi. When I was seven, my folks like every other parent wants you to try to do something, say, take you to Qatar lessons that I remember. Really well. This guy smoking a pipe in a little doorway, you know, like a closet almost. So stinking up the room with this pipe. He's fallen asleep while he's teaching you bomb ground ground, gone gone, and he'd gone. This isn't fun. This is in cooled is nothing and undying on this guy's pipe went home through that acoustic guitar down the basement stairs broke a tuning peg. Boy, Boyega. It sat down there till I was thirteen and a man by the name of l. paranoia moved in across the street from my childhood home. And he was in a club and he was like a hip guy, and he showed us how to play songs and he showed me how to play house of the rising sun. And he says, ELL, if you don't know this next week and I came back and I didn't know it. He said, don't waste my time in just get outta here leave. That was great. It was the best thing he ever said to me because if he called me and said, right, I wouldn't have taken it seriously, but he said, don't waste my time. Get out of my basement. I got a family upstairs get lost. I learned that I learned the next one. I learned the next one. When you learn a song, you start to think about songs. When you think about songs, you want to write songs. When you write songs, you get to be here, you know. So it was at his. Encouragement. Thanks to his encouragement. I stay with it and you know, there's a medallion that I give to people on our tours since nineteen eighty six. It's a diamond medallion in the shape of the superman logo, and it has the slippery when wet roadside onto two little tired tracks by today's standards of bling that these guys wear and do and be, you know, it's it's joke, but this little medallion. I gave to our most intimate s- in one thousand nine hundred six at Madison Square Garden on the slippery when wet tour you have to do two world tours every leg of each tour. If you don't make it through every leg of the tour, you don't get one. So you have to do two world tours. You have to be with me for number years before you get one his about one hundred and fifty in existence. People took great pride in ownership of those. Al Paranal took mine to his grave, and that's remind went, it's a special thing. And that was a special man in my in my life. Nine hundred seventy eight and seventy nine and eighty. When those pictures were hanging on your wall, they were pictures of Led Zeppelin with a seven, forty, seven. It was bigger than bigger than big. The vision of grandeur was there girls and guitars, and you know money in fast cars and rebellion not having to work for the man. So I I was sixteen seventeen. I didn't have any great responsibilities yet. But one thing I did have was a single minded. Laser beam focus that there was nothing going to distract me from being a better singer, better writer in a better player home. My parents did reinforce my optimism. They believed that you could be what you want to be and work hard. Never say never. Whatever you wanted to do was was at your fingertips. You just had to just work hard to get it. They came to the realization early on that if I was going to be playing in a bar three in the morning, at least they knew where I was. And I literally was in those bars until two, three in the morning, go to high school at sunglasses on which was, you know, in retrospect, wonderfully single-minded, but talk about everything on one number on the roulette wheel. There was nothing to fall back on, but it was ported that beautiful romantic. I was luckier than lucky because it worked out.
