"But they've been, I thought their Denver win was a real good win. That's like a solid win. There was against a good team. And I liked how defensively they executed Jason Kidd's game plan, which was basically we're just going to double jokic and rotate like hellfire every single possession. And it worked. So that was all nice to see. But hold on on that game really quick. Sure. That was a nice one for Dallas. To me, that was also a Murray's not quite ready at game. Because basically Murray could have won that game for them. And the Murray jokic pick and roll that they're kind of bringing back from two years ago. And it's just, it's always going to end up with jokic on a smaller guy or Murray against somebody he could beat up the dribble. I don't see it totally with him yet. And I think it's going to come back. I'm not writing it off. But the Murray from two years ago, when's that game? That was my takeaway watching. I was like, if they had 2020 Murray, they win by 5. The number one game where what you're saying really pops into my head is their loss against the Knicks where he just couldn't go buy a manual quickly off the bounce. I was like, what is going on here? So he's going to it's going to take some time, I think, with Jamal Murray. I'm pretty bullish on him still one of my favorite players. I think he's a genius offensively in tandem with Nikola Jokić. The three point shot for him has been falling and the pull ups have been falling. So that's always really good to see. The 36 is basically the same. To me, it's like it's a specific crunch time thing. Because that's the guy for them. We know what jokic can do. I think the role players are better. The Bruce Brown thing is great. I think they have a better all around team. But ultimately it's going to be games like that. He's going to be the guy with the ball in the last minute. Either making plays or not making plays. So you could take out jokic different ways, but yeah, I mean, I guess his field goals down 48%, two years ago. This year, it's 43. That's not great. Three points down a little. But yeah, what do you think? February will know, march? Hopefully, I mean, Michael Porter junior missed that game against Dallas as well, which, well, that's that sort of thing. Yeah, so I don't know. I mean, getting back to Dallas, it's just a question I think that Jamal Murray, by February, hopefully at least post all star break right around that time.

Alvarado's 38 points pace Pelicans past Nuggets, 121-106

"The pelicans picked up their fourth straight win by thumping the nuggets, one 21 one O 6. Jose alvarado delivered career highs of 8 three pointers and 38 points. I think my high is in college was 29, 28, somewhere around there. So to get here, I ain't bad. He came off the bench with the pelicans trailing by 14 in the first quarter. Alvarado immediately scored 8 points during an 11 one run. Nikola Jokić had 32 points and 16 rebounds for the nuggets who have dropped two straight since a four game winning streak. I'm Dave ferry.

"But before AD got the flu or whatever he had and LeBron said out the other night, they were on a little nice win streak there. So who knows with them? But it's a really weird conference right now. Absolutely. And if you're Utah, it's pretty easy to kind of talk yourself into maybe we can make the playoffs outright as a 6 seed or a 5 seed and see what happens. 15 and 12 right now. They're closer to a one seed than they are to the 14th seed, but it's pretty even. Who knows? The thing with Danny is he's completely soulless with all this stuff and he'll do whatever it is to give him the best chance to win the title, right? So he's watching all these games. And at some point he'll decide, what are we doing? We're going to be in these games against like Luca, jokic. We're never going to have the firepower to beat any of these teams in this series. Let's go the other way. I just constantly, I think, would have real value, even though I'm not positive, he'll stay in the court all the time. But pretty reasonable contract. Somebody that a lot of teams would want. Clarkson would have a ton of value. And I don't even know. He's such an asset. I don't even have to trade at this point. Linux is very, very, very malleable depending on the team. You could put him on 18s Caruso is my favorite trade target. Of anyone, just like the 9 million a year, you put them on Milwaukee, Golden State, every coach is just high fiving the other 8 coaches. But Olynyk's a pretty decent one. I gunpoint I still think I like the ceiling of Memphis the most. But I get to go see, I'm going to the clipper Celtics Monday. I really want to see the Kauai thing in person. Hopefully he plays. That's the thing. Unfortunately, in the playoffs, you have to play more than once a week. So that's going to be a problem for them. What was the other team we wanted to talk about for the Celtics defense? Dallas, Dallas, so they switched some dudes around Hardaway got going a little bit. Got a little Josh green action. This is what they did last year, so we have to take this seriously all of a sudden from January and they just ripped off when they still leave me a little cold, Michael. I don't know what it is. I don't know whether it's I don't enjoy watching them. Or they just feel too small to me or Luke is their best defensive rebounder. I could list 12 tiny things I don't like, but what am I missing with that team? I mean, I think you're spot on. I'm pretty skeptical myself. They have arguably the best offensive player in the league, just an absolute tremendous, effective playmaker, can do it all Lucas having a tremendous season. They're getting it done offensively when Dorian Finney Smith is hitting threes when Tim Hardaway junior's hitting threes, Reggie Bullock, when he's hitting threes, he's been pretty cold lately. They're tough to beat. But when you have a talent like Luca, I don't care that much about the regular season for them. I want to see and also in the regular season, Luca, just the usage rate. We've talked about it a million times. Him wearing down eventually is going to happen. But can you wear down when you're just jogging for two and a half hours? Have we seen him? Have you seen him break a sweat yet? Maybe he won't wear it out. I don't know. It's a totally fair point. And their pace is bottom of the league as it should be. They're obviously conscious of all of this. But I like Spencer Dinwiddie, Spencer did when he was my number two ball handler. I don't like. I'm not a fan of that. Christian, what has been okay? There's been obviously weird stuff going on there. All season long with his minutes and whether or not he's going to close games, the front court rotation has been wonky.

"Of Rhode Island. I broadcast that game for the student radio station, sitting on the stage behind a basket. Wow. And they beat us, and he wasn't the reason they beat us. Bill butler was, but he played well, but he was bob Lanier. Two years later, there were 23 and two that year, by the way. Two years later, they are in the final four. And he's by far the biggest reason. But they enter it without him. He was injured in a freak accident at the waning seconds of the regional final game against Villanova where he kicking and throwing over his butt. Chris Ford, ironically, a future teammate got rolled up into him and he tore his MCL. He was not available for the final four. They put up a heroic battle against Jacksonville with nobody over 6 5 in a lineup and they lost a competitive game, but obviously, you know, they would have no chance. I among many believe they could have beaten UCLA that year that was the steep Patterson center year that in between year between and Walton and they were better than Jacksonville with him. He's a better player than Gilmore, period. Get that in your head, folks. And anyway, so that's why I care. But I'm in here, by the way, in about a full draft 1970, a draft that included Pete maravich, Rudy tomjanovich, Dave cowens, and, oh, and then the second round, Calvin Murphy and tiny Archibald. In the second round, okay? He was the number one pick in the draft. Now, bob linear was about the full guys in the 70s. Think about it. Kareem was in his prime counts, went up and went two rings. Nate Thurman, Welles Reed, west sunset. And then in the other league, Daniel Daniels, artist Gilmore, later on, Bill Walton, Moses Malone. This is the center is the plane in the 70s folks. We all fashioned as Al Maguire would say aircraft carrier centers..

"Is there a better backup point guard in the NBA? 21 points, 9 assists, zero turnover spot. Zero turnovers. Jones is like the perfect backup point to our kiss. He can make shots. He runs the team and makes good decisions. He was terrific. That's what Cameron Payne did that a little bit last year. When they needed it, and so this time, it's as tight as Jones. Well, that's well, that's that. So here we are. Okay, let's move on to let's move on to the MVP. And Jeff, I'll start with you, your thoughts on jokic. I mean, you can't argue it. I mean, if you want to go Joel embiid, I'm not going to go after you for it by any means. I thought both guys were terrific and, you know, I would say this, I would say that jokic without Murray this year without Porter this year, what he did, and it just, I mean, they're both just so good all around. Big guy. It's hard. I mean, you don't want to say anything disparaging against him. 'cause he was so great and he plays with that kind of, you know, that fire to him and he's controlled his emotions a whole lot more this year. Stayed healthy for the most part. I honestly, I think he was splitting hairs here. Yeah, I would have voted for him beat myself. I'm gonna beat guy. Bob. Of course you got the other guy. Best player in a game, and then into Tacoma. And there's no reason you couldn't vote for him either. Except that after a while, guys get to the point where people want to share the wealth, you know, and the voters sticking around. We went through that and Jordan probably should have won ten. But it's not Charles had a good year. Let's give it to him. Oh, Carl had a good year. Right. And I think on a Tacoma was reached that status already in his going for a third. All right. I could easily with death. I could easily make the devil's advocate argument for any of the three. The negative, the nitpick I might make on the beat. He played 68 games. And now Bill Walton, I looked it up. You know how many games he played when he won it in sit 50, 77, 78, 58. He missed 24 games and people decided he was still so much the guy. And of course, there were 50 and ten that year as defending champs when he got hurt. And then by the end, by the time they got to the playoffs, I think they were missing four starters. Portland. But Walton made it when it was a guy who won it with 58 and you could make an argument therefore to be deserved to win it with 68. Here's the tiebreaker if I'm going to go the other way though. And B, this is a two way player. I mean, you know, his defense was calling card before he showed us he could make a three and do all these things. Whereas nobody's nobody's claiming is a defensive Wiz of any kind, right? No. And it's all about offense for him. And it's extraordinary offense. There's no question. Whereas embiid, it's about both. So you can make the argument, you know, two way player versus a more disproportionately emphasis on the offense..

"And he is, that can be the, and not only was Jalen Brown good for three quarters, shooting the ball, especially in the third quarter, he was really good with his decision making and his passing ability. Really, really, really good. And he's come so far in that regard, but then he makes that poor decision. And that to me is Jalen Brown, kind of in a nutshell a little bit, like he could be great at times, and then he can just look at him and be like, what are you thinking? But those are the place Milwaukee didn't really make down the stretch. They made the right decisions. All right, let's move on to the, let's move on to you wanted to talk about Golden State bob. Well, I mean, I've watched a lot of NBA basketball in the last year yes, you have. So they're up three, two right now. I don't, I know I have never been in a gymnasium or in front of a television set where a team was down 55. Particularly in particularly a team as worthy as the Golden State Warriors. That's a shell shocking score to me in the context of a given the fact that they didn't have that Memphis is playing without Maria. Now I know they had a good regular season record, but in this, this is a whole different animal now in a playoffs. That's one of the most shocking scores in the history of the NBA, in my opinion. One 34 95 and that closeout game. Up with the warriors. The warriors, who I thought had come together, you know, and presented themselves as a major threat, a very easy pick. I'm not saying it won't rebound and they probably would love to hear those discussions today. But that's an astonishing score, guys. One 34 95. They were down 55. 50 bleeping 5. Without y'all. Give me a ton of credit, bob, because, you know, I'm not like, I hate the phrase. Well, they could have folded. Nobody's gonna fold. Like nobody, nobody's saying we don't have John morant, we're not gonna show up. It's a dumbest thing ever to say. But give them credit for again..

"You know, even a year ago, he's really improved defensively. And then start looking at the rosters, it's not great. Yo, what he's playing with and did Denver considered Maurice but not the whole year in Porter junior is basically been out the whole year. So yeah, that's kind of where I'm leaning, but I don't feel super strong about that pick either. I mean, it's just that close. I mean, when you look at the my God, 26 points, 13.6 rebounds, 8 assists 1.4 steals. How is he getting more steals the block says as a big thing? I don't understand that, but he's sneaky on those like entry. He's really good at poking those away and he does a good job getting up to block lobs too. Just get in the deflection and get a finger on him, but yeah, it definitely is something else. I mean, 58% for the field 35% for three. Like, those are just ridiculous numbers, but then again, like Joel embiid has been tremendous too. I think the bottom and maybe we end up at this point pretty much every year. But there's a few guys where if any of them want it, you would say, okay, yeah, I can see that. That makes sense. I think if push comes to shove, I would lean jokic, but just when you see he's 6th in the conference, his team is 6th of the conference, typically you don't see a succeed produced the MVP. That's usually one of the top tier teams. But I think when you factor in everything else, I probably do lean yoga at the end of the day, although I do have that if I'm looking at my own bias, I don't appreciate the foul baiting stuff that we see from a couple of 76ers players that might be coloring me against. Against embiid in some way because he's been fantastic as well. You really can't go wrong I guess that's where I'm landing. You really can. I think the difference too is a lot of years we'd be all right, who are we picking from the suns? Right, they've been kind of rampaging through the league. They're 60 wanted 14. That's pretty absurd. I mean, once you start pushing up to the low to mid 60s and wins, that's something. And we'll see, I mean, they've got literally nothing to play for. The rest of the way. So maybe they start backing off and don't win 65 or more games. But we'll see, with that, but I think what we have to look at there is, I think, so if I had to pick a top 5 today, in some order, I'll give it what I think my order would be right now. Tatum Booker. Flip flop Tatum and Booker, if you want, I have no issue there. And I feel comfortable putting Tatum in that list because outside of the suns in the grizzlies and I'll get to the grizzlies in a second. No one has separated themselves. All these other teams records are basically the same. They're within a game or two of each other. The grizzlies, I'm going to take John Moran out of the mix. And I don't want to see it like overblown with the whole thing because they've won..

"To be a high assist guy. He's not going to be a facilitator ball move. He has to be more quickly with his decision. And he typically has a matchup where you can take advantage of that and use that quickness and that quick decision making power. Well, if we do, if we throw it back to the beginning of the year, you may talking about both these guys need to become playmakers. I was wondering if Tatum's emergence in that role changes the equation for Jalen and they look at him as more of a finisher off of brown. And when those two guys are playing off each other, it's Tatum setting up Brown and he needs to be the guy who's consistently feeding Brown the ball and spots. I'm excited to see these guys run pick and roll and crunch time. We've seen bits and pieces of it in close games and it's worked really well against Brooklyn against Dallas late in that game. They are going to be deadly in that regard. And we waited forever to finally see it and now that it's there, it's exciting because those two guys in space next to each other throw rob in there as a roller, that three man game there and you know, you might even call those to three pillars of the team right now. They're big three. There's a few plays for those guys getting actions together and magic happens. Golden State, the home game much earlier in the year. There was just a brilliant set where Brown sort of like fake the screen for Tatum or other way around and then rob was rolling off them with a screen and threw down an alley oop, but like the amount of pressure that those three guys attract in their own way, it's unguardable. So continue to roll with those three guys playing off each other in the same area of the court. And this offense, there's no limit. I mean, you might have the best defense and one of the 5 to 6 best offenses in the league here if you can pull that off throughout the flow of games. But Jalen's the key. He needs to find his spot, right? Josue, we've been talking about that corner Jalen forever who just gets lost. It's not there this year, but this still shades a bit at times. Yeah, I mean, one of the things is just being out west here and just talking with some of the assistant coaches that they pointed out was that there's things that they work on when they're practicing. And it's what you see in games. And the level of execution isn't anywhere close in games to what it could potentially be. And that has them excited because they're still winning decisively. And they're not offensively offensively, yes. And they're still not playing their best basketball of the season. And to your point, and we were talking about this early season. Why don't we see more Jalen and Jason and pick and roll action one another. And I get the sense that as we get deeper into the season into the playoffs, we're going to start seeing them really. Well, because think about it, if you're scouting the Celtics, you don't have much fun with that. You can't really prepare for that. You have an idea what that looks like, but you don't actually have a lot of actual game action where you see that. And yet that's something that I know as they get deeper into this thing. We're going to see more of that. And that is why they feel really good about where they are, and they feel good about whoever they have to play..

"And the yoke is one of those guys. I mean, he's the reigning MVP and yeah, I led with this earlier that sure, this nugget team is shorthanded, but they've been in shorthand at all season long. And this was just straight up. I don't know if I call it a straight up embarrassment, but if you're a nuggets fan, you have to be somewhat the effort, just overall, I thought the subject's just really just took their lunch money, you know? All four quarters. And jokic could do little to nothing about it when it really mattered. Yeah, and when it comes to that conversation, John, of like the first half, second half with this team, and that first half of the season does drag back a lot of these unreal numbers that they put up since the deadline and really since that Nick's collapse going back 33 games now, which is a decent chunk of the season here. The fact that they don't have the same roster is that group helps to some degree because obviously I think Tyson white have been better fits and Schroeder and NS of course. So it's not the same team. I just don't think I don't think that's it, Bobby. That's part of it. You don't have any minutes right now. The additions aren't doing anything that they weren't doing prior to like, look, that 9 of ten stretch prior to the trade deadline is where they turned it around. And I'm not trying to diminish the Phoenix win at New Year's Eve. But I'm just simply saying that they were, you know, we had left them for dead completely, and they went on a ridiculous run. And that's the reason they went all in at the trade deadline. You know? Because they had done that. But that's a lot of different movements. I stretch leading up to it. Again, it coincided with a lot of different things. It coincide with Tatum starting to find his stroke a little bit. The biggest one was probably Martin. Marcus coming back, getting the memo and completely turning his season around and playing the best basketball of his career. He may making the switch, taking rob off Biggs, putting him on non shooting wings, which kind of, you know, again, I was just looking at the numbers. That 9 out of ten stretched their defensive rating was 94. You know, like that's where it began to be ridiculous. And they've carried it through with the core players doing it. You know, you're getting decent contributions, but not outstanding outside of the guys you were getting it from before yet. That's actually one of the cool things is if Derek white is the best version of Derek white and gets it going. That's another thing. You have yet to really fully get out of him. You haven't gotten like the Derek white carry you for stretches on a couple of times he has. But not consistently enough. My point. It's the lead by committee second. And the creature just started playing better too, and you're right. If you want to say Bobby, I think that's fair. If the schroder minutes, you're going to continue to say those were bad minutes. That's fine. It's not the key. It's just part of it. It didn't feel like Schroeder fit with the new wave Celtics, which was all about the defense. Like when the team morphed into what they became..

"You know, I don't want to say there's no, there's no front running here. They're just stomping teams and they're doing it with their defense, but the offense is flowing right now through those guys. It's going great. But it's the scoring and that shooting in that first lineup. And whatever contributions you're going to get on the bench. And when things get really, really tight, can you get this kind of stuff? I mean, if you get a fraction of what you got from the bench tonight, we'll talk about Pritchard because it came out and he's still knocking down shots and it looks great and it's a fun thing to talk about. Grant, this was one of my favorite grant games of the year. I just love the way they played. I love that he was like, the inside outside stuff. I loved it now. You know, I mean, he's been attacking closeouts this year, but I love the fact that he's, you know, kind of dipping into his bag a little bit, that little turtle. A dunk loader in the lane. To turn around though. The turnaround was sweet. The block on jokic bodying people up, not settling for stuff, you know, I'm getting in here. I'm getting into the lane. I love that stuff. So you want to be able to count on those guys between white, you know, grant and Pritchard. And like you said. Yeah. So that's been the goal of this trip, getting that bench unit going. That's when you may keep talking about it. So it was nice to see that kind of spark things tonight. Grant's been the glue guy for that second unit, in my opinion, right? And now he's sort of become like a leader of that second unit, because well, you know, Derek whitey was sort of anointed him right away. And to be that guy off the bench. But grant has done this organically, and he's been in that place all season long, he's been this consistent. And I love the fact that he's more comfortable to put that ball on the floor. Teams are starting to scout him and they know their hip. They know about the quarter three. So instead of relying on the up fake, he's also putting the ball on the floor and surprising opponents, especially their second unions when he's blowing right past them going in for a dunk. Some of those big down low, they didn't want any of that from grand. You know, like he's like intimidating second you and his opposing second units right now because they just don't know what you're going to get at it, but we can give you the three point shot. He can beat you off the dribble. He can give you some great passing that you don't expect with the no look. Like he was doing a little bit of everything. On top of the offensive rebounding and just the overall passing. I mean, he's just been that glue guy for that second unit. Yeah, and I love his defense. They don't miss a beat with those guys. That can switch. He's long, he's active. Grant's been great at all that all year. We know what he can do on.

"What's so funny about that? You're not even exaggerating, man. That's verbatim. That was a direct tweet from Bobby. What do you think, Joe? That's at the top of the night for sure, right? What do you think? Is this one you'll remember? I mean, it's definitely going to be a notable game. Again, you see two back to back performances from Tam and Brown 30 plus performances, 30 plus points. That's exactly what you want to see. And of course, you saw them beat the snot out of the nuggets. I think this is going to be that game that we look back and say, when the subjects are connecting from behind the arc, look out. And we talked about this a few weeks ago, Bobby. Remember, every three weeks or every two to three weeks, the stuff is going to do for one of these because they have that capability to go off and behind the arc. And that's exactly what I think happened here. You know, especially when you have someone like Pritchard going perfect 5 for 5, Jason Taylor certainly set the tone and he kept it going after the tech. But I mean, look, it's still a recognizable game for sure, Bobby. I mean, look, this is Denver Nuggets team. I mean, granted, whether they're injured or not, they've been, they've been a tough team year in all year long. You know, especially for a Celtics team, this kind of matchup in. The stuff that they made this one look easy, man. They demolished this team. So it's definitely a notable win. But I don't know if it's like one of those like three years from now, be like, man, what would that game in Denver though? That was wildly, you know? Yeah, this was somewhere near like milk palacios game winner for me. Actually, that's more memorable. You end up. In a force in Denver to bench it starters after halftime. You have that crazy 24 to two run in the second quarter there. And like you said, Joe sway, another one of those 60 pieces from Brown and Tatum together that back back. Pray the first time that they've done that and back to back games in their careers, I would imagine a look into that, but this just had everything. Pritchard again, going off, showing that he can be that spot up shooter and the running mate in that bench unit. Taste even had like a 7 nothing push. So just memorable moments throughout this one. And the way this team continues to frustrate Nikola Jokić whenever they play him. I mean, that's really what got that run down. Three straight games. Yeah. You're going back to last year even, which is odd. You got Benson that game, too. I mean, he had a triple double and he got benched in that game late because one was like enough. You're not into it. You know, here. He had 9 turnovers in the Boston game..

"Like Golden State said, we're not going to double you. Where's that? Single and just kill us. That's fine. But it almost reminds me of a football with mahomes where the teams are like, we're just dropping 8 back. If you want to rush 7 yards of carry, go for it. Go ahead. You can take the 7 yards, but we're not letting mahomes throw deep. We're just not. Everybody's gonna be back. And with jokic, it's like just take your two points. That's where we've gotten with him. Because the moment you double him, everybody just gets a wide open, whatever. And then at the end of the game, and you saw yesterday with the shot that he created for the game winning three. He just gets everybody incredible shots. Who would be more fun to play with than him? Other than Chris Paul. Well, him or, I mean, Luke is pretty fun to play with too in terms of the types of shots he got as long as you don't mind him having the ball 95% of the game. You're going to get fed. Yeah, no, you'll get definitely pick your poison. I don't really know what the right way to defend him is I think you have to mix it up and give them different looks. I do think you want to rely on, I think most teams in the playoffs will basically at some point make their non shooters. There's not great shooting guys around him like Monte Morris won the other night. He's not a bad shooter, he's not like it's knocked down to your air and burns on a knockdown shooter from three. Composite certainly isn't river, certainly. So I think as the playoffs go, I think you'll see teams will gain fine a little bit to let the other guys kind of beat you, but it'll probably vary from game to game. The other guy who was really tough to beat obviously you talked about it a little bit was Chris Paul and crunch time because that's, I mean, they're crunch time records absurd. It's absolutely I think it's like 21 and three or something. Did you see that stat? I saw John schumann on Twitter had it. Where it was like, it was one of the four greatest crunch time stats so far clutch stats, like in the history of the since they've been measuring it in 1986. It was like, I think the O 7 Mavs were the only team that didn't make the finals out of the other ones, but it was on that level. But they're basically 24 and three in crunch time. Yeah, yeah. And I looked last and I was like 24 three. I know it's absurd. And it's the type of thing where there's no defense against it. You know he's getting to that elbow jumper from two and you're just hoping he misses it. And you're going to get like, he's going to spam four or 5 of them over the last three minutes. And it's just very, very, yeah. And then if you over help, he's going to find someone who's rolling. I mean, he's just very difficult really a master at that for sure. So it's Phoenix is number one. Golden State in 2015, 16, there were 30 and four. Dallas and O 6 O 7 was 32 and 6. The league was really weak that year. So I think that partially explains it. And then Miami 2013, 32 and 8. To me really good company. And the other thing and this is why I don't think Chris has a chance for the MVP. Booker's been so good for them. He's basically been 30 a game for, I don't know, 6, 7, 8 weeks, but the shots that he's getting for himself when they really need to at the end of games. Like he's getting the highest and possible two car shots. And he's making them and they just have so many different options. And then defensively they get stopped. Some bridges can guard, I mean, how many guys other than Yanis can guard four positions like bridges, you know? That list that the list and the entire league is less than ten or 11. He got around 5, yeah. Super. Yeah, so I watch them and I actually, I'm surprised they have the same odds as Golden State. I think they should be the prohibitive favorite at this point because they're easily going to get the one seed. Every playoff series is going to have to go through them. And they've shown us nothing the entire season. They got better with biombo and McGee, like they definitely ate they're not in that Kaminsky situation that they're in last final. I was like, those guys can at least they have 6000 apiece. They can rim around a little, they can protect the rim a little. But I just think they're better. And I think they know, I think it's another year of playing together. There's familiarity. And I would be if they don't get injured. I would be really surprised if they didn't win the title because I think they are the best team. Really? I don't know. I mean, I'm not ready to call them the best team. They're definitely in the conversation. I mean, I talked about this the other day is the idea that there's a best team and the best team wins is kind of like nonsense to me anyways. I mean, people don't realize how like there's several teams that have a chance to win a title and one of them will win and it doesn't necessarily mean they were not maybe they might have been the team that made their shots. Therefore, they were the best team then, but they're not necessarily the best team from an evaluation standpoint. But yeah, they're in the conversation. But like 2017 Golden State was the best team. They were winning. If we did this season ten times, they're winning 9 and a half of the ten times. Right. But there's been so many other like the Lakers the year they won in the bubble. I mean, they went nuclear from like KCP was shooting some ridiculous number three. Rondo. All of these guys were shooting. They definitely shot outside of their career averages or out of their expectations. And so yeah, the best team. I mean, Phoenix is Phoenix and Golden State are definitely head and shoulders are above the other teams in the west but I don't know. And also part of it is also just who you match up with. They Phoenix May match up better against a specific east opponent, but worse against another and it just so happens that that other one advances because of how they match up. There's that. There's that part of it. There's a whole lot of incidental things that can happen that can determine who wins Phoenix is definitely in the conversation, though, for sure. I guess the question for me, I.

"We have a couple other questions, but they're so they're so evergreen and I might want to hold them because my brain is so frazzled right now. And I don't really expecting that, huh? No, that kind of came out of nowhere. I wasn't ready to talk about the heat. They've been on my mind, of course, because I am going to watch that game tonight, I think, or at least the first half. And hopefully it'll be a blowout, but it won't. There's a something extinct. Listen, like I said, this is the kind of game Boston should win easily, you know what I mean? Please stop saying that. Please. Just stop saying that. I don't like hearing it. Yeah, man, they just. They've been a strange team. You mentioned that closing 5. I do think that's that's the lineup they're gonna have to win with. Like you said it hasn't played much. You just look at other teams around the league. The real contenders in my opinion, like every team has that one lineup that's like a 1213 14 net rating. They don't play it all the time, but they go to it when they win it's crunch time when they need the win when they need to pull it out. The great teams have that lineup, the heater expecting that 5 to be their lineup, but they haven't proven it to be that yet. A wild card in all of this and there's just I have truly not a single idea of what to expect as Victor Oladipo. Because if he's like 75% of all star Oladipo and you can close with him, to me, that is really a huge wild card for their season, but we've known anyone who's gonna be back, let alone, you know, what are you using to look like on the floor, but yeah, I just am a little they've been so reliant on threes in a way that specifically corner threes, which are harder to generate in the playoffs. Exactly. And yeah, it's just going to be it's going to be very interesting and I do think that last year's series gets a buck not to get into bubble talk or whatever, but I think there were more kind of. Last year's playoffs just had stranger results I thought than the bubble, frankly. Or last season, I think was just had so many more variables in it than the ones before. The bubble is one big variable, but last year was players returning from COVID and empty arenas or full arenas and blah, whatever. We don't need to litigate that. But my point is, as much as I am not necessarily worried about how that first run series against the bucks went, there's something we said about the way they defended Jimmy the way they defended bam basically daring them to shoot from the mid range and the heat frankly not able to capitalize..

"They have they have a net rating with jokic on the floor that would be, I believe the best in the NBA. I mean, obviously the warriors have a great net rating when Steph is on the floor. There's reasons for that, et cetera, but they play like the sons or the warriors when jokic is on the floor. And they are truly one of the worst teams of the millennium when jokic isn't playing. That stark of a difference. But in terms of who's a better player. Oh man, I really, really, really struggle with that one. I say that it's like sooner I genuinely believe it's been one of the biggest jokic cheerleaders in the media for the last three or four years. That is still a tough one for me. And I'm not gonna. Number one number that is really interesting to me is two point field goal percentage because we talk about and be being unstoppable. He should be, I know he takes a lot of mid range jumpers and that's part of his game. He doesn't need to do that. He could post up on every possession if he wanted. But his two point percentage this season is 52.8, which is whatever. A lot of his efficiency comes from the free throw line, drag fowls, getting free throws, he's a really good free throw shooter. 52.8 on two point shots. Jokic is 63.7 on two point shots. And it's not like he takes 13.2 per game. And then B takes 15.4. So that discrepancy right there in just one stat. And again, I could go to so many different statistics. But that right there is just another sign of just a big man who gets to his spots and makes his shots and is truly unstoppable. And the number one separator for me is passing and the narratives that comes up here is like embiid is the point guard. He plays he's playing point guard for the sixers. This is incredible. And yeah, his playmaking is for sure improved. No doubt about it. Some of the plays he makes. He makes a great ever, ever, ever, ever, ever be on jokic's level as a playmate. It's not close. No. That's so right there. That's just another humongous differentiator. And one guy really makes everyone around him look like a legitimate all star. And the other guy, not that he is not that he doesn't do that for certain teammates for sure. I think he makes his teammates better as all superstars do. But not to the level that jokic does. And lastly, before we move on, I want to just mention the standings as I did earlier. Denver is, I believe, okay, so I said that they were fourth before. They're actually 5th as of right now, but have the same amount of losses as the Utah Jazz, by the way, get better Joe ingles. This is the worst. That's some of the worst news of all time..

"A vacuum and bead is has a significant advantage on jokic defensively. I think that I think embiid is a better defender, a more feared defender. I think that the way jokic is asked to defend in Denver's system is a lot different for sure. I also think that he doesn't really bring it on every possession. I'm not saying jokic does, 'cause he doesn't. But there's plays where usually dropping, right? And sometimes he gets out there and he moves his feet really fast and in those instances you're like, this guy should win every single defensive player of the year award. But when he's in deep drap, it's just like, I know what the strategy is. And I know that the numbers say that they do force a lot more mid range shots and they do deter shots at the rim, et cetera, but in certain matchups, sometimes like a guard coming off a screen will just hit like three straight jumpers in a row and you're just can you kind of do something. And that's a little frustrating when you watch them play. But I hear you I think it beat is a better defender. I think what really frustrates me though is even going back to last year when jokic won. The whole argument was like embiid would have won and he played more games. And now we're seeing that the games are just played 44 and beat has played 38 and beat is also not playing tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies because of scheduled rest, which is very frustrating because the grizzlies are the best one of the best teams and I would love to see that matchup. Awesome. I would just like to say jokic played every single game last week and coming out of the bubble. Yeah, wild. Yeah. Incredible feat. Truly one of the greatest feeds. Of this decade. Yes. So, I mean, real quick, I just want to and I said I would go back to this, but you mentioned the on offs and I want to sit on this question for a while because it's really been bothering me as you can tell. But jokic, as you said, he leads the league in on off differential plus 22.2. The next highest is George Hill at plus 18.3. Joel embiid ranks 21st at plus 10.8. Steph Curry is 11th at plus 12.6. Jokic is plus 22.2. I know on off isn't everything, and if you want to go through every other statistical measurement we can and jokic will be better. But that right there to me is like it's called most valuable player. Yeah, that's just what it's called. That's how I convinced Harry when we were doing our midseason awards pod. You throw out that number and I mean it, I meant it genuinely..

"And there's just a lot of season left. I mean, I had yogic as my midseason MVP, but I do think it's an interesting race right now and it's to me it's just a more so an interesting question of indeed I think obviously at the moment is scoring in a more exciting way at least the mid range you wrote about his mid range last year, Mike. I haven't looked at the numbers anecdotally at least. I just think he's shooting the hell out of a lot more a lot better than he was at the start of the season and that's helped in terms of some of his scoring uptick, but. It's hard to separate those guys. It really is, because we will never know what they would do if they trade places. So I will, I will admit, of course, the embiid scoring in the last 15 games, it means averaging 34 shooting 54% from the floor. That is. I mean, it's nuts. It's insane. It's insane stuff. And there's a thing about embiid that when you watch him, and this isn't to take anything away from yogic, who's obviously incredibly effective as a score. And I think for a long time, was the best effective field goal percentage of the league or he was high up there all year long, especially in terms of people who take as many shots a game as he does. There's just a certain dominance to the way embiid plays sometimes and we don't have to get into everyone knows how I feel about whether or not they should trade Simmons, but I think you can feel like nuggets fans are gonna get mad at me for this even though I picked jokic as the MVP and he stole my MVP. I think you can more credibly guard jokic one on one than you can embiid. I just don't think there's anybody in the league who can garden beat. I don't. So first of all, that's an interesting way to paint it. I think that is not to say that that's why MB should be the MVP, but I think that's like, when you watch him, I think that's why he gets that maybe extra bump that jokic doesn't get. There's a brutishness to some of jokic's scoring, not his overall game, that I think people are just they don't know what to do with. So first of all, okay, I just want to say that I think is amazing. I think that he would be second if I had to vote right now. I agree with you that there is a lot of more basketball to be played and beat could easily shoot ahead. If he continues to average 34 and 12 and when he's on the floor his team is plus 8 or whatever it is, then yeah, it's going to be really difficult, especially if the sixers finished with the first the top seed in the east. He's just going to win the award because the nuggets aren't going to finish in the top two in the west because of where the warriors and the suns are. And people look at winning. A lot of voters look at winning and they value that a lot..

"Do you want to understand how Kobe Bryant achieved his unequal determination? How did he come to his incredible passion to win? In I am Coby, we reveal intimate never before her tapes of Kobe when he was a teenager, just as he was starting to glimpse his own greatness. It's about the making of an icon. We weave together these tapes with Kobe's high school coaches, his friends, and the figures who knew him in his youth, all episodes are out now so you can binge the whole thing. Listen to I am Kobe on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, and wherever you get your podcasts. Okay, do you have anything else to say about Andrew biggins or I'll start or can we move on? Because this email, I'm like chopping at the bit to get to it. Let's do it. You literally, he's literally rubbing his hands together. I know. And excitement. I was next email. I had to get the lotion out. Okay, so this email comes in from Alex who writes hi Michael Rohan and brother herring. I love how brother airing is catching a good brother. I haven't heard from him since he spoke to Spike Lee. He doesn't respond to anything in the group chat anymore. Yeah, no. He's a big diving us. Yeah. Dame dash. My name is Alex and I'm from Wichita, Kansas. I have been a longtime listener and fan. I don't think I have missed an episode in a couple of years. Shout out to you, Alex. Thank you, Alex. All I seem to hear from the media is praised for Joel embiid and how he has put the 76ers on his back and his quote leading the MVP race. I just can't help but ask a question. Why is everyone seemingly pretending that Nikola Jokić is not doing what he is doing on a nightly basis? Jokic leads embiid in every per 36 category aside from turnovers with an almost negligible difference and points. Not to mention, if you pull up advanced stats, it is ludicrous. How many categories jokic leads in? I understand that jokic is not the quote sexiest player. And from a marketing standpoint, he probably isn't the best choice to label as the face of the MBA. But when you look at the numbers, he is almost undoubtedly the best player in the world not to mention the fact that the nuggets have rattled off 8 of their last ten and are sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference. Why is everyone just ignoring.

"Man, you look at the resume, just those three years. At least starting a conversation, then he goes all the stuff that happens in Boston, where he guards magic, he takes magic out of the last four games of 84. Only after reason for badly Casey put him on him. Right. Didn't have him. We were all going crazy. Why is he calling magic? So he guards him. He neutralizes them, and he scores 20 points of game in each of the final four games in that series. So you have that? You're making me feel horrible. Well, 85. He makes the big shot game four ties it into two Celtics blow game 6, some terrible Mikhail falcons that I'm not gonna talk about. 86, he's the effective point guard of the best basketball team. I've ever seen in my life except for maybe the 2017 warriors. I don't know. I saw it, he made he made the with the guy at the big guard that had feel like he was wearing an iron overcoat. Robert Reed. Robert Reed and shut him down and you know, totally dominated them. Here's the other thing. The Celtics, the guy they can't get by for years. Is Andrew Tony. Owens Boston. Literally as nickname as the Boston strangler. They trade for DJ. And we never lose to Philly again. That part matters and then last thing, the steel. The single most thrilling moment, probably in the history of the garden. Bird has a steel, everybody's kind of what the hell is going on? Who's cut into the basket for the layup? And then who makes it DJ? Makes this twisting layup that reverse layup basically. He starts off on the foul line or almost there to top of the key when he reads his whole play immediately. And if he doesn't make that cut, Larry's perching on one leg like a flamingo with nowhere nothing to do with the ball, but fall out of bounce. And he makes a contested backhand lay up as well, by the way. But you know, I'm making my case. I'm looking myself. I'm not going to sleep on a night back to this now. Well, I'll give you more. NBA Finals MVP, 79. First team all in the 81 second team on NBA 80. 9 all defenses 6 first teams. And the durability is amazing. He never played fewer than 72 games. He missed 48 games total. He also played a 180 playoff games. So I'm just like, what am I missing? I know he was a little bit of a male content, I get it. And also, Larry Bird's famous declaration, which he reiterated did not back down from. Best player ever played with, which is probably going to Kevin's going to be nursing that wound it was great. So how much of that was bird actually believed that and how much of that is like a slight dig at Mikhail? Because they had a weird relationship. 80 20. Yeah, I would say 70, 70 30, 80, 20 somewhere in there. Somewhere in there. Can you can you educate there was just enough of this that it upset me and I just think you need to, you need to sit the pupils in the class and you need to swing your ruler at them for two minutes. There was just a little wise Bill Walton on this list. So go. Just take Bill Walton is the greatest what if and basketball history. And yet he does have an accomplishment as an MVP and as a man who was the focal point of a championship team, which was had it stayed together and sort of, and he had, if he had not gotten hurt, I think would have won multiple championships. Would have been going down the history of the great dynasties and NBA history. The Portland Trail voices of 80 77. There were 50 and ten the next year when he got hurt. And if such a big career was never to see him again. Bill Walton is the greatest two way center in the history of basketball. What do I mean by that? If I had to have a if the earth were in competition in a one game winner take all with an implanted invader. And if we lose the game, we're going into servitude for all eternity. And it's the basketball game. And I have a pickle the number one pick of all players who ever laced up a sneaker to win this one game. My choices Bill Wong. You run your offense to them. You want your defense to them. And you're going to have you're going to have a wonderful team. The injuries just kind of just completely cut him short. He was the perfect center. Now that's in the game that is no longer played today. Now, how he would have adjusted now I'm not sure, because he was a high post passer as well. He's the greatest passing center in the history of basketball and was but we do have a new candidate to challenge him. And that's mister jokic. But it's just he just a shadow over every team. He played against when he was healthy. He's peak. This is as good as anybody's, and that's why it belongs in the top 75. The jokic thing because I think jokic, I actually think he's as good of a passer as well. I think that I think that's how good he's been, especially as he gets to know his teammates better. But imagine if jokic was 7 foot three and was the dominant defender in the league while also doing all the passing stuff that jokic does. That's what we're talking about here. Jokic in a weird way kind of combines some of the offensive stuff that bird used to do. And then that kind of passenger that Walton had and bird obviously had too, but there's he's closer to almost bird than walking for me. Hybrid. And why I think about it, I think you're right. He's definitely a hybrid. And maybe it's 63rd and 40 waltner 7 65, 35, whatever. But yes, he is a choice special player. The choice special. And yes, he is. I wasn't the one to him as a rookie. I was put on to him after his work a year. You got to pay attention to this guy. This guy, you know, and talking about his passing ability. And once I saw it, I went, oh boy, I didn't think I'd say anything as close to Walton as ever again. And you're right. There's more with more experience and as his teammates get to appreciate what they can do and what they should be doing, playing with a guy like that. His skills are flourishing. You know, especially their team, I always want to watch them. You know, because period. Well, you're in Massachusetts. So you didn't catch it. On the West Coast out here. I get a lot of Denver. And it feels like every year yoke it's just passing has gotten a little crazier. Remember.

"Like if I had an MVP ballot, I think he'd be, I think like around that four or five range like you know, Talk about philosophy and games played and stuff. But he's right there. And so Jonas has this reminds me of David Robinson. Doing greatest Peaks, where he had the momentum, he had the excitement. He didn't have a great team and yet at some point, once he hit a certain level scoring champ MVP, then the Olajuwon series happened and it's like poof David Robinson isn't that good anymore. Which, which I think is was kind of a crazy conclusion. Well, and in the case of Kauai to through his first 31 games, this year, he averaged twenty seven point five or six rebounds, five, assists in shot, 51-48 from the field. Like those first 31 games, he was probably one of the three best players in the league, like oh, certainly, like LeBron was there. Jokic was there. This was before Curry, like really caught fire this season. So I was right there with you early in the season. The problem is that the Clippers wage The pedal off the gas, right? Like in, that's normal like he didn't play. I want to say like he didn't play almost half of their last like, thirty thirty-five games wage and over that time the average like 20 to 7 and 5 and was similar in terms of shooting percentages, but it just didn't quite feel as impactful because in general, the boss took their foot off the gas, you know? Well we're here. There's one named. You didn't mention at the top, I'm curious about your take on him. Sometimes I say you mentioned sometimes not and then we can make our way back to yoga, Chicago speaks, but where are you on, Luca, and you mentioned Dame, Lillard, I think at fourth or fifth, on your ballot. But it seems to me that at least, at least instinctively or off at numbers. Luca, would be the guy there, instead of Dame for that. Kind of like, oh, if we're looking at this level of team and this level of player, where are you on? Luca? Yeah. You know I think them Happened with Luka. This year, not have Lucas somewhere in the top ten for sure. He would be, at the very least second team all-nba..

But this this is basically vaughn not taking any pay-cut essentially gambling on himself. If he's terrible this year then he's not going to be able to go anywhere for for much more than way below average as far as pass rushers way below if he goes out and rocks it. Then he's going to probably get himself a pretty sweet contract for the next two or three years. Sixty percent of the hooligans are happy about it. They're saying good.
