Eagles first formed in 1971 when the four founding members Don Henley, Glen Fry, Randy Meisner and Bernie Layton came together as a backup band to play for Linda Ronstadt. That year, the group signed with manager David Geffen and agreed to work with his new label Asylum Records. They released their self titled album in June 1972. "Rally in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Last night, The president touted his repeal of Obama era regulation meant to expand low income housing in suburbs and his support for law enforcement as reasons why suburban voters should flock to his campaign. I think we're going to see that the women really like trump a lot that's happened last time, remember, never last four years ago, four years ago, they said, women will never vote for myself. Why am I so bad? They say the women will never vote that I got 52%, they said. "Think it's largely going arrest on how close the election as if you have elections that are really tight in Florida in Pennsylvania than there's more of a case to be made for a whole series of lawsuits and litigation recounts that you know rival what happened in Florida in two thousand if it's a much bigger margin. Trump's still not going to concede but I think the the opportunities for trickery in chicanery lesson. Greatly, this has been a very different season for you because you you've still been out there during a pandemic can you found different ways to make the show and still be safe? What are some of the things you felt about? America, on the ground as you navigate throughout the country, there is a deep and profound sense of heartbreak I mean I will never forget going to Kenosha and it's not just Canadian it's also Milwaukee in parts, of Madison, and everything was boarded up and your first instinct is a think oh, everything's shuttered here but those businesses were still open and it was kind of I won't say. For, because it was happening in in the real world, but it told you all you need to know about how closed off. We've become from one another about how sort of dark the future looks for everybody and then the sense of palpable anxiety and furious and I don't WanNa say it's completely hopeless but I have never sensed the sadness that I do and the and the true anxiety you know. And I think some of the Times that anxiety and sadness takes form of vitriol and you see that underplay at the especially at some of the trump rallies that are still happening and on the side on the Biden side you know I was at a drive in Rally Johnstown Pennsylvania and there is a sense of broken and a desire to be made whole. That is unlike any other period in American politics. But I also think you're witnessing something in American politics and it is asymmetrical. One party is no longer just seeing the other side is wrong they're saying the other side is evil and that is a really disconcerting development right I mean the when Reagan was when someone tried to kill Ronald Reagan nineteen eighty one Reagan is ailing in his hospital bed and the speaker of the House a Democrat Tip O'Neill is one of the very few people admitted into the hospital and he's and he gets down on his knees and prays with Reagan it is impossible to imagine donald trump and Nancy Pelosi doing the same and It is not because Nancy. Pelosi doesn't say regularly I PRAY FOR DONALD TRUMP? But I think there was a decision and I would really put this more on the right than the laughed that to to poison the groundwater and to say isn't in just about a policy difference this is about a way of life and this is about a kind of people that aren't American. And they along here and they are not part of our vision for the country, and once you make it deeply personal and take it into the realm of the emotional. It makes it really hard to build a bridge back. Unfortunately, building the bridge back is the task of the next decade. Right? I mean trumpism trump may be may not be an office but trump is. The Republican, Party, it is republicanism at this point and it will be incumbent. I think on Progressives and Democrats however unfair. It may be to build back that bridge with whoever is left on the other side and wanting to make that happen. There's a lot of work to be done Alex as always appreciate having you on the show. Thank you so much for being here good, luck with your travels out there good luck with the family and I'll see you next time in person. Always great to see you let show for tonight's. "Well after that Tuesday night debate president trump and Democrat Joe Biden got right back out on the Road Biden did a train tour through Hieaux and Pennsylvania yesterday the president held a rally last night in Duluth. Minnesota where he praised himself last night, I did what the corrupt media has refused to do hell Joe Biden accountable for his forty seven years of live. Forty, seven years of betrayal. And forty seven years of failure I held Joe Debate. The president is talking about, of course, was filled with interruptions mostly from the president and. Are Now considering format changes for the other debates to come NPR SCOTT DETRO- joins us this morning from Wilmington Delaware Good morning to you Scott. Good morning let's start with the president. Thank you know one of the big headlines out of that debate was his refusal to directly condemn the white supremacist group the proud boys and I I gather the president was asked about this yesterday. Yeah he was asked by reporters and that he said, he did not know who the proud boys are. The quote is I can only say they have to stand down let law enforcement do their work. This was like you said a day where president trump came under tremendous pressure for not condemning the group at the debate and as a reminder what he said was proud boys stand back and stand by. That statement that millions of people saw and heard was viewed by many within that movement as encouragement and throughout the day yesterday Joe. Biden said that he worried the president was signaling to them and other right wing extremist groups to take violent action after the election and amid the many other broader implications of that it's really hard to see how that statement and the performance as a whole won over many undecided voters. while. The president as I said was in Duluth, Minnesota trying to win over voters. This is a state that he lost narrowly in twenty sixteen right at me and says, is the trump campaign hoping that they could turn the state read this time. Hoping. So the polls show that that's that's not the case right now at least but you know northern Minnesota. Is A rural place with a lot of white working class voters that the president thinks he can turn out in even greater numbers than twenty-six. Areas like the iron range have been receptive to his message especially when it comes to trade and getting rid of environmental regulations and the trump campaign also seems to think that they can make headway with suburban voters in Minnesota and elsewhere because of the unrest and widespread protests that followed George death at the hands of Minneapolis police. But polls show him continuing to lose the suburbs by wide margins of that more voters trust Joe Biden to deal with these kinds of challenges. Okay. So that's the president you actually outwith Biden yesterday on what sounds like quite a train trip. Tell us about the day. Yeah, it was an old fashioned whistle stop train tour. Biden traveled from Cleveland to Johnstown Pennsylvania and he spent time campaigning in places that president trump won by fairly wide for years ago. This was actually Biden's I extended campaign swing since the pandemic began a multiple stop day and he did it on his favorite mode of transportation. Biden traveled to the debate the way he spent decades traveling to and from the US Senate I spent. The bulk of my. Adult life driving, Amtrak Station the daily commute to and from Wilmington has long been a big part of Biden's political or story for decades he's connected with struggling and working class voters telling them about his time as a single father. The fact his wife and daughter were killed in a car crash and that he came home from Washington. Every single night to be with his young sons fact is they tell me I've. Logged, more than two million one, hundred, thousand miles on. Amtrak. So. It's good to be here. So the day after a brutal debate where president trump insulted and interrupted Biden over and over again, Biden returned to his wheelhouse chugging across eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania on a whistle-stop tour by didn't got out of the special seven Car Amtrak Charter and spoke in Alliance Pittsburgh and Johnstown another stops Biden's trip had a clear political goal to speak to the white working class voters in this region many of them in union households who defected to trump. So take a chance take a chance on me. And I understand why some people did take a chance because the fact of the matter is she said that he was going to make sure that he took carry all. You know he had his chance though. Now. We know exactly who Donald Trump is as the day went on, Biden brought up the debate less and less but his class resentment of trump and what he represents notably ticked up toward the end of the day Biden spoke at a union training school for Heavy Equipment Operation I've dealt with guys like trump my whole life. Guys who might let you park the cars at their country club pick up a few bucks. But even if you had the money, we'll let you join that country that was in Pennsylvania's Westmoreland county a place trump on more than sixty percent of the vote for years ago other counties Biden visited had similar margins. They're filled with people who think Democrats have abandoned them in worse disdain them many trump supporters in Ohio and Pennsylvania Democrats in Washington cater exclusively to urban coastal voters. So venturing into Maga- country is a strategy many Democrats have pushed for since they're twenty sixteen loss. Sitting in the Amtrak Cafe Car Pennsylvania Congressman Connor Lamb said Biden and other Democrats he to go and talk about a platform that emphasizes healthcare better wages and union rights. Whole reason why we have to show up in these places is to try to deliver. An unfiltered message about where we stand on the actual issues you know there's so much distraction so much misinformation and that's all the last night was. It's very unlikely. Biden will win Westmoreland county next month. But if he cuts into trump's Martin's there in another conservative pockets, he can win back. Pennsylvania. When Biden pulled into Greensburg several hundred people from that deep red county were standing outside, waiting and cheering. The crowd is all across the street. Biden is standing in front of the train station pointing and waving. He's raising his hands up to the crowd now to wave. Cut the margin it makes a gigantic difference Biden spoke to reporters after a final rally in Johnstown. He said there are political reasons for trips like Wednesdays, but he said there are bigger goals to whether or not I get them back I want them to know I mean insincerely I'm going to be present I hear the I listen. It's got to reporting there. Scott is still with us. It's all politics aside, I love trains. Do you you know whistle-stop train tour I think can objectively say is a very fun way to spend your day especially when you're going through a place like Western. Pennsylvania. Where we both spent a lot of time reporting we sure have and Joe Biden clearly enjoyed the day too. He is complained about how hard it is to connect with people and he really seemed to relish getting out an actually engaging with voters all day even doing it safely with masks on and pure Scott detrow Scott. Thanks. Thank you..

He's a fucking cartoon character and I honestly I played for my dad at a lot of different levels and I watched and coached a lot of different level. And he was like everywhere he was. You love hockey too. And he liked creative players and he loved guys that would stay up with the teammates and guys who show the heart. And if you've ever one of those guys it was very easy to play for my dad and if you're you're you're a guy that needed You know negative reinforcement or you know you needed a ton of false positive occur. He wasn't really that guy he was he was pretty real and he's pretty genuine and he just he worked hard and he loved this guy and I loved I loved I. It's not just 'cause he was my dad. I loved to coach. I really really enjoy playing for him as a coach. Curtis your very first program pro game. Had some pretty unusual circumstances. Did they not this? Is I think probably my best story. So I'm at Penn state types like we were talking about before club and So you're not. I don't think I think one guy had gone and played one game in the Gel Before I had gotten there and at the end of my senior Johnstown and wheeling were both just really hurting for guys a lot of forwards and you know the ACH L. Some people on the phone won't know or some people listening to this later. Well no but these are general. There were times during the year when your coach is literally in the back of the bus. Like hey does anyone know someone who lives near New Jersey? That ever played hockey in their life. Because we need a science. What for tonight like we have forty and we need someone just in case something happens or we need an emergency goaltender who is also our equipment guy right that kind of stuff all the time. So I get a call at spring break at Penn state. And everybody's going people are going to Las Vegas going to Jamaica and I get this call. That wheeling is down so many guys that they want me to come in and Play some games and so right away. I don't even think about it. I'm just like I'm going of course. Of course I'm going so I packed my stuff up I drive to. I think I drive to reading Pennsylvania to meet the team and I get. I get in with the coach and he takes on the locker room and he doesn't he doesn't sign me and I don't play that night. Which is fine. We go to Atlantic City. The next night. Sign me there. I don't play that night. I'm just Kinda want and they're down. They're down guys and I don't know if it was because I was clogged or what but We get back to wheeling and pricing with the team there for a couple of days and he finally sits me down in the office. And you look look look I know. I know that you WANNA play hockey. I I WANNA get you paid and other enjoying the experience. We're GONNA sign him. We're going to find it sooner and I'm assuming that's fine. That's fine whatever. I'm just happy to be here. And then that night wheeling is getting back on the bus and go into Johnstown Pennsylvania to play a game and the coaching Johnstown. Toby O'Brien was good friends with the coach. At Penn State Joe Patricia. And so toby. O'brien is calling job. And he was like look. We Got Three D. We have to have someone tonight. Can Curtis Patrick Come? Come play for US and Joe Batista's like well years is number but he's in he's in wheeling right now and so Tokyo Bryan calls me. I'm standing in the parking lot of West Bank arena in wheeling West Virginia I'm just about to get on the bus to drive up to Johnstown. And here's Toby O'Brien colonies. We needed guy tonight. I you can play tonight. I'll sign you signed you as soon as you get here. You play for US tonight and so in that moment. I'm like well let me just let me just think about this for a minute so I call my dad. Of course which is like the first thing I always did call my dad. I said Dad Look. We ailing about to get on the bus please tonight. John Sound wants me to play for them. And my dad's shine you did whaling sign you. I said No. We're going. Sunday said go to go play Johnstown. And I'm wheeling. Meanwhile without a car so I how I got really but I still got. Oh no because I met him in writing so let be reading went on the bus with them wheeling with no car so I got to wheelings coach Pat Bingham and I said hey coach weird situation here but Johnston wants me to play for them to and make sense since I haven't signed here and it doesn't look like I'm GonNa play. I really loved to just play. The game right. Doesn't like my life's dream here. I don't know if it's going to be here tomorrow. I gotTa do it. Is there any way I can go play for Johnstown tonight? And he's like he just gives me an pet thing and there's a tough tough man and I love him but he looked at me like he wanted to kill me. I thought he might sucker punched me when I asked them that question and he looked right at me and he said you can play but you might feel more comfortable writing with one of the stars and so we only had these boosters these super fans that would follow the bus everywhere they went especially Johnstown. A No don't say and losers are in the parking lot all lined up you know. They got all their cars and so he picks random car and says taking this guy right with you know. They're like they're like he's he's like. Yes you write a view. They said yes. He didn't tell him that I was gonNA play for Johnstown so in writing to Johnstown three hour drive with these guys and finally we stop at subway for a meal. Like how come you're not on the bus by the way doesn't actually it's a funny story. I'M GONNA play for Johnstown tonight now wheeling and immediately immediately guy giving back and stabs you in the throat not playing. No you're not they they take me to smoke way. We get pre game meal to play for the opposition. Their arch rivals. And then we pull up into people up in Johnstown and wheelings already been there and already unloaded the bus. No lie we pull them up to the front of the arena. And there's my bag and my to stick sitting on the sidewalk around just sitting in the middle of the sidewalk right next to the main street in Johnstown because they took them off the bus and through 'em put right in front of the arena for me later. Yes that's a little bit slimy like that move that move. There was that made me mad all apart with the boosters. I didn't find that you know what happened. I was mad so in the game. Wheeling was one of the best teams in the League that year and had been on. They run a thirteen game. Unbeaten streak at the time and so I went in and played for Johnstown. Actually a buddy of mine from Penn State. go down. He played with me. We both got to play in that game. We ended up beating them and I think feed them by. I think we'll took him down like six two or something. It was awful and I was punching guys in A. I'm all guys and their their coach. Pat Bingham was just bright red screaming at everyone. "We've sold in western Pennsylvania in my hometown of Johnstown Pennsylvania, which was a burgeoning iron and steel Sarah at the time. And we developed a developed a business which ultimately was listed on the American stock exchange, which which hired thousands of people over the years and Dr lotto, what kind of immigration restrictions existed at the time when your family came in terms as as refugees, fleeing those conditions in their home country. Well, the United States essentially had no serious immigration laws all until roughly eighteen eighty two in the Chinese exclusion act was put into place and at that time has now immigration policy in the United States was determined to a great extent upon on labor needs and on racial preferences. After the Chinese exclusion act. The next major immigration law had to do was started in nineteen twenty four. The American first of the day who described themselves in that way, where. Were essentially had adopted a nativist position saying that the only real Americans were those that were already there white Americans and they wanted to also they wanted to to reduce the number of immigrants coming in Tirlian and they wanted to re. They wanted to bar immigrants from certain regions from certain countries. So in so in nineteen twenty four, the the exclusion act of that of of those years, essentially barred Catholics from southern Europe and from Ireland and Jews from the Russian empire. Accordingly, the seventy four members of our family that had decided earlier not to come to the United States were unable to go when war broke out in in Europe. In the nineteen thirties, they were unable to come to the United States. We couldn't bring them over and in our family, there were seventy four members. That we could trace none of them survived the war. There were all wiped out murdered exterminated the there had been five thousand Jews in the ton of enter poll and its height before world. At the start of World War Two, there were two thousand after the war. There were seventy four who survived. So it's not a theoretical question. What would have happened to the family? It's a real question about what did happen to the family. And the answer is they were all murdered that no place to go. Nobody would take them. Reaction Dr Gloucester when Stephen Miller's childhood, rabbi, rabbi, Neil Daniels best share Shalom, denounce Miller during his Russia shine a sermon earlier this month, calling Stephen Miller purveyor of negativity, violence malice and brutality. He said, quote, Mr Miller, you've set back the Jewish contribution to making the world spiritually whole three or arbitrary division of these desperate people. The actions that you now encourage President Trump to take make it obvious to me that you didn't get my or our Jewish message addressing him by name your thoughts about what he's saying about your sister son. I'm not an extremely religiously observant person, but I take seriously the ad munitions which which are faith has given us to protect the refugee and welcome the stranger. So I find myself not in disagreement with with Stephen Miller's rabbi. It's. The United States is a great country, a large country, a wealthy country. We have wonderful expertise and absorbing refugees and immigrants. The United States also has treaty obligations and laws which which enable us and regulate the management of refugee applications and the eye that states, the current administration is doing everything it's can in order to reduce the total number of them be. They legal illegal, and I think they do it for frankly, demographic political reasons. Most demographers think that by the night by twenty forty five. But the people of predominantly European origin, white European origin are no longer going to be a majority in the United States. They'll remain a plurality, but not a majority, and it's a demonstrated fact that people of the non white people are less likely to vote Republican accordingly. I think this fits in very well with this is one of the reasons. I think why the Republican party which had once been. The party of family values in the moral majority or willing to tolerate Trumpism..
