"Cupertino California apple today, announced that sir, Johnny ive, Apple's chief design officer will depart the company as an employee later this year to form an independent design company, which will count apple among its primary clients, while he pursues personal projects. I've in his new company will continue to work closely and on a range of products with apple while I mean while on one hand, I'm devastated as someone who started out in this business as a designer Gianni and his relationship with apple was just everything I looked up to everything is fired to be on the other hand, though. As someone no longer in design. Johnny, I've set free, but still connected to apple is something I really, really deeply feel but sorry, I, I wasn't going to do this video today. I was going to wait and think, on it a bit and do a deeper, more forward-looking video tomorrow. But then you guessed it, the internet happened hot takes began to rain. In down, like medias and a Michael bay movie. And as expected, a lot of them were just as terrible, like terrible set and exhaust terrible. That's why ultimately decided to split my video in to, to get something short out now today and then focus on something deeper for tomorrow, so hit subscribe rugby-tackled that bell, mostly. You don't miss tomorrow show. And then buckle up. I'm Rene Ritchie. And this is Victor Johnny is a singular figure in the design world and his role in Apple's revival. Cannot be overstated from nine hundred ninety eight groundbreaking. I MAC to the iphone and the unprecedented ambition of apple park, where recently, he has been putting so much of his energy and care. That's the statement from Tim cook, apple CEO, apple will continue to benefit from Johnny's talents by working directly with them on exclusive projects and through the ongoing work of the brilliant and passionate design team. He has built after so many years, working closely together, I'm happy that relationship continues to evolve and I look. Forward to working with Johnny long into the future. Okay. But so what does all this mean I, Johnny has literally been at apple since the second coming of Steve Jobs, when it comes to personal computing? He's been there designed that. He's won more awards and been on more patents and entire companies combined. He's a big part of the reason almost all phones are now singular slabs why every laptop for a long time was wedged as air and why it was so hard for so long to tell any other tablet apart from the ipad. He was a design league not just for apple unofficially, for the industry, but he's also a designer a passionate beyond talented designer who outside of a few projects for product red hasn't been able to design much of anything else in two decades, not a set of chairs or a desk. Not a bicycle or personal jet plane. Not a set of knives, or a grandfather clock, he's designed the best selling products in the history of bestselling products. But that's all he's been able to design that is. Aside from his recent flirtation with apple park, and apple retail. Why would Johnny? I've leave apple only for this new design company. Love from to be hired by apple again, before it even officially launches sometime next year. Probably because it's a win win for everyone involved first apples. No stranger to working with outside design companies prior to the age of I've frog design helped make so many of Apple's early products. So ecomomic apples, also worked with outside agencies in the past with whom they've created some of the most memorable ads of all time. Johnny is the reason they haven't been doing it since Johnny. And now that they might start doing it again. Either in name only, or as a real deep collaboration time will tell it'll be with you. Guessed it, Johnny. And with Marc Newson, who's joining Johnny at from love after spending the last few years with him at apple not only shaping products in his own, right. But as a kindred spirit in a way that no one else could be since the passing of Steve Jobs. Second, Johnny not only knows everything apple has done up until. Now, he knows everything. The company is currently working on for the future as well. His team has been pushing out designs not just for the next generation of products like glasses auto motives, but prototyping and brainstorming generations of products after that, having some extra insurance wrapped up around that is in everyone's benefit, especially because third, it pre-empts just a ton of silly speculative headlines around, what if Google or Samsung or while way or whatever competitor hired love from and Johnny fourth? It keeps Johnny in the apple family, even if he's moved out and gotten his own space, and that doesn't just cut down the neighborhood drama. It keeps up the fields in the family design team leaders Evans, Hanky vice president of industrial design and Alan die vice president of human interface. Design report to Jeff Williams. Apple's chief operating officer both die. Hanky have played key leadership roles in Apple's design team for many years. Williams has led the development of apple watch since inception, and we'll spend more of his time working with the design team. In their studio now. She's not very well known outside of apple at all, but by every account, I've heard so far Evans is beyond solid. She's been effectively running industrial design for years, since almost after Johnny left, day-to-day management, there to focus on apple park, and apple retail. And she deserves a ton of credit for a lot of what the team has done over the last few years, and, yeah, feel free to transform that credit into blame if you're super salty and spicy about things like the butterfly keyboard, but it takes a company and years to let that ship, and I can get into that. In a follow video if you want me to let me know in the comments, but it's probably fair to judge her by the next keyboard than this one, just like the next air pods. And, you know, next generation of I phones having her and Alan die whose effectively been running HI since seven report into Jeff Williams is going to be a real head scratcher for a lot of people, and it's a bold choice, but I'm not sure it's a bad one neither Evans, nor Allen are being promoted this point and having them go back to reporting Tim cook like die. Richard Haworth did. Johnny was off working on apple park would have felt to me more like apple had no other idea what to really do it them. Jeff by contrast has been running apple health and apple watch for years and not just the way Dan rea show. Run some special projects groups or q runs. Apple TV Jeff is incredibly detail, oriented, and has a real passion for design part of the reason sub econ was promoted to senior vice president of operations was, so Jeff could spend more time focusing on product including especially design, also apple doesn't just meant senior vice presidents. Let alone C level executives, even two of the most important hires in the recent history of the company, Johnny Saruji who runs silicon, and John Andrea who runs machine learning took some time to get their senior vice president power ups, if apple is considering anyone internal, or external for senior vice president, design, I wouldn't expect to hear about until after some time passes, and a big new product version lodges after nearly thirty years on countless projects. I am most proud of the last day work, we have done to create. A design team process and culture at apple that is without peer today. It is stronger more vibrant and more talented that at any point in Apple's history. That's according to Johnny. I've the team will certainly thrive under the leadership of Evans Alan and Jeff who have been among my closest collaborators I have the utmost confidence in my designer colleagues at apple who remained my closest friends and look forward to working with them for many years to come. There's an incredibly crucial point inside their apple is absolutely the some of its people from Steve Jobs to Johnny is to Tim cook to everybody else. But everyone will leave eventually everyone or apple to truly last it has to have a soul beyond those people. The most important product everyone at apple works on every day isn't the apple watch it isn't the ipad. It isn't even the iphone. It's apple. It's making apple into something that can not only survive, but thrive even after any of them now you're going to hear from some people that Johnny checked out of apple after Steve Jobs passed away or. Shortly before he took on the very different challenges of apple park, and apple retail and for some people even at apple both of those things are going to be true for others, though, for the one still working within presenting to Johnny on a regular basis, it's going to sound beyond ridiculous. And that's because the internet like people just aren't good with multiple truths were not as simplistic, as catchy headlines and hot takes make us want to imagine and situations are seldom as extreme where complicated, we're contextual. And so our passions in relationships Donnie, led the team that designed everything at apple then the teams that designed the places to put all those teams and all those things he has I can only imagine look upon the breadth of his product portfolio and felt like he had no world left to conquer. Imagine how that must feel to one of the greatest industrial designers in history. And then imagine what doing something like love from must feel with one of your best mates and a deal that lets you still create with apple. But also create beyond apple create anything whole new. The world whole new challenges in potentials product red electric bikes be blasted aluminum hot tubs, Siri bubbles. Whatever he wants whatever he can dream up and will into production and who knows in a few years. Maybe we'll documentary on curiosities dream about his impact. I mean, they have one up on Frank Gehry after all, but also much more..

So most of his, he's had three rounds of funding since then that's three rounds of dilution. Right. Yeah. So maybe companies worth three times more, but you probably only twelve percent now. So you're six billion becomes worth fifteen. You make less. Stupor amaze until it turns that awful like that. It's just ridiculous. It's frustrating. What's very spot? Eighteen million land to you. I'll do fifty but even Instagram guys thing about the took billion yet, knowing that they could scale it much more knowing that they could be worth billions thing. Instagram does over a billion of quarter now. Right. So it looks dumb. No, it's not dumb. They got a billion dollars when they had eleven employees genius. People are just making fast content of them singing, dancing along the songs how, how fast is fast. How many seconds vast, like ten seconds line like the old vinyl vine vine had a real shot at glory. Six seconds little too short. But same thing they missed out. There's an another app called Halawa's are building, all of the apps together, a friend of mine spent like thirty million dollars on it self-funded it, he was the inventor of biotech. He did like the first multibillion dollar biotech, public offering right back in eighties. So he's self-funded first son, put in thirty bucks and Halawa says, essentially Facebook Instagram, all these companies combined to do e commerce, so it's helping people monetize their personal brands. I think that was interesting. They're now getting lots of traction. Really it. It's really tough to become a social platform. Now, remember there's two hundred and twenty other social media platforms, we just don't talk about them about them. It's really tough to grow. I think the one that's converting best now Lincoln Lincoln, the Adelaide now that they added photo and video it's magical. It is mind going what you can do on their explain this because I'm, I'm not using. So Lincoln for you is huge because you could sell the straight line program, you could sell their people would pay twenty hundred bucks there all day long because everybody's orange right? Got way more you should one hundred percent. Be putting a big effort on I just the guy shirl taking that the guy Josh shaven. Yeah. Josh Lincoln is critical. Not just for you for you super-credit give for yourselves course, people are gonna eat it up. Right. "Leonard of the aisle, referring to five the prior six games. Rangers were Western Conference teams. They even had a redeye flight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. So it was only a day back in New York. Faith off the point. Off the crossbar. He had your peak. From what point but it got the bar and now whistled down in my hand pass. We stay scoreless one eight to go the opening period. And Greg dot is about as solid as you can hit a crossbar Nicoletti with a blast. Li feet gloveside late to pick that up was the net. Minder is there were about five. Later to shot taker it left point eight yard yet. It's Rena pipes that it had to get through like mcquaid and Martin were the two plays directly in the vision of your year as the Rangers are guilty on an icy here. So lick Nicoletti thought he had a couple of nights ago guarded. The second power play goal was richly credit to him and then hid her mission. Eight took another look at Viva to Anders leave just got a slight deflections second time in less than two weeks taken away after it was rob was better after traditionally was given still. Still just want go on the season that incredible end to end goal and New Jersey on black Friday against the devils. So no goals last twenty one games for Nicoletti. But he's come the closest of any player here today to lighting the lamp as we go under a minute and a scoreless first Savannah, Georgia, the Rangers leading point man through the right island rice. Now carries around behind the net to the left circle put it in front. And now, he's fighting the covered in the paint. And he will get it. Sequence. It save Robin keeps us spoiler. Was Chris Kreider who had two excellent opportunities. I auto. Donald trump. The stock letter makes a fantastic stop. They've got with a piece of his glove and scrambled to the left side of the crease rider cubs it for that opportunity. I think Johnny four Chuck gets his club on that one. As letter was down on his back. So I read a letter with unbelievable save John Havlicek scoreless which one. In the first period. Boy Chuck to assist Thursday night at the garden. His first multi point game this year and seven points in his last ten contests. And he's doing it at both ends with saves like that after Lennon was flat on his back following the first stop. So we stay scoreless. You a twenty seconds to go in the period. Both teams about great chances to get on the board Rangers with it. The Angelo right point wrister. On goal in front of another terrific saved by Leonard after he'll got enough of it to have it totally changed direction. Puck now behind the ranger net on an island or dumped down five seconds to go put in front. With a shot. Georgiev squeezes them between his legs. How about that? By Brock Nelson. Stick between the legs perfect Georgiev says says no and the horn sounds ending entertaining. But scoreless opening period, Scott Bayfield, knowing they're just a couple of seconds left in the freezer yesterday, whatever he can to get it towards the net. And he does exactly that from the far side half board event proc with what looks like a perfect affliction by one of your gifts. Best saves all the period if not as best save. Official shots on goal. The islanders through Adam six even shrank four on the power play the honors for three on the man advantage in the first period. That includes a few seconds of five on three times. I was to Ryan Polack and that was a minute seventeen. Rangers did not get a single shot on goal on their one power play. We are scoreless after twenty minutes next the very special feature done each and every week by our grant Francis. "End up this conversation, but in terms of your portfolio, which is a cut flowers, and you also do herbs I want to knowledge that because that is part of flower farming for some people. What is the kind of ratio of flowers to edibles? I mean, how does the company balance that in terms of offerings? Yeah. So the the split sort of in terms of sales revenue is on flowers are about six percent of the overall business small, but it is it is growing faster pace than the rest of the business, which I think points to sort of interest and growing local flower movement. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I just think anecdotally, I feel that in general, I guess the way you would calculate. It is like how many pages does Janis catalog in devote to flowers over baby past years or? Just just my own path through life in talking with people. There's so much excitement about what you can grow for cutting garden. So I it's interesting to hear that that's also a festive growing category for you. And even though it's smaller, it's it's taking up more energy in in the positive. Probably with con conversations customers, and and people out in out in the flower farming world, they're really excited about. What they can to Johnny's four. I guess. Yeah. I say the, you know, the vegetable cert- -ment is pretty mature. There's been a lot of focus on that. It's sort of the original focus of the business and a lot of focus over the years. So there's in terms of the assortment, there's not a lot of new places to go. I guess I guess to clarify should say there's there's always new varieties better better things to offer and new information. But but kind of all the bases are covered where with flowers, the sort -ment, I think is growing growing wider in response to customer interest in customer needs. And there is a hunger in general for the new the next the the happening, you know in any category. So that's kind of what's going on with your cycle, which basically the new Janis catalog. Jen comes out at the end of the year. Like, I just got mine in the mail recently. The in at the very end of December is that right? Yeah. Yeah. There's a couple of mailings that go out to different customers across the US. But yeah, roughly breath Li I think thanksgiving through Christmas. Catalogs hit mailboxes fun. Well, my brother and sister in law live in billings Montana, and they just got their catalog and we're excited to see that you featured slow flowers on the flowers page. They are like, oh, we know her. So they posted something about it on Facebook, a crack me up, but this catalogue is robust. It's almost two hundred and fifty pages. It's full-color beautiful photos, incredibly detailed information about the cultivation and harvest and light preferences and hardiness zones and just like all the stuff, you know, to have success with vegetables and flowers..

And appears now that it's likely been cleared. I can't see any lane block. Johnny four eastbound forty four still slow past elm up through the clean station. And now. Now, westbound forty four due to construction pass king's highway, you're slow and pockets, and it looks like you start to jam up at about arsenal. All the way to Shrewsbury nets. Again, they're doing construction in that left lane throughout the midday hours. Eastbound forty four it looks like we still have a slowdown as well. Right before Hampton, which is pretty unusual for this time of day. What about with you Roger jammed downtown on the side westbound sixty four from twenty fifth, and it goes all the way to the poplar street bridge this inching along, but it's still backed up all the way past Packers avenue onto westbound seventy s walks store in that injury accident. "Conkrite Jordan, Cronkite, big big-play, Dr Burke down in ten in Houston territory. Play I breathe it sixteen yards to continue the drive Houston gets the ball back on the Cougars. I play the Eric. King was intercepted by point that setup south Florida with the ball at the Houston thirty two then one play it takes Johnny four to run it in and get this game tied after the extra point ten twenty reps. Play the first half four fourteen Houston, fourteen backfield. Let's check in with Randi heights in Norman, the Sooners of Oklahoma off to a fast start against Kansas state, Randy. Yeah. Right now, Oklahoma is cruising by scoring seventeen. Seven eight minutes to go in the. First half. Kansas state drive seven play and fourteen plays seventy five yards and they kept on seven minutes scoring drive. But Oklahoma quickly moving down the field right now is they're trying to check and see if they run out of bounds. Cintas undergrad seventeen to seven Tyler Murray. Again, the story the day eleven thirteen over two and thirty yards passing touchdown. So making a case now Heisman race still kinda Murray with the president numbers here early in the first half, they lead Oklahoma seventeen to seven over Kansas state to Missouri. We go Kentucky and the Tigers locked up in a good one early with more. Here's Bill Pollack told you moments ago that Mizzou stop Kentucky on a fourth of one deepen tiger territory on the ensuing drive. It was a steady dose of junior running back tomorrow. Crockett four carries for twenty eight yards. One of those was a big twenty yard gain. Also, a big third in nine yard completion. On a third and ten from the Kentucky. Ten an incomplete. Pass in the end zone. Pass interference called on the Wildcats and just moments ago Demaria Crockett with the two yard run. He is in the end zone. Amazon grabs the lead fourteen. I wanted to go in the second quarter. And with that extra point Mizzou is up on Kentucky seven three right Penn State, and I'll right now trace McSorley on the sidelines. Let's get more from Jeff Byers Thomas. Steven's coming into the game here for the lions after McSorley left hobbling on his right knee, which appear to be injured on any of long. When I brought him to the ground of a truly house been dragging a little bit on the sideline riding a bicycle right now. Back out on the field. And again me. How has four fourteen points the conventional way a couple of safeties the Penn State so one was mishandled by white Gillick and the other went overkill head and the hawk is also what they feel and a touchdown in this game. Answering what they touchdown Pepsi frail sustained fourteen seven we have nine forty five remaining in the first half. I trace McSorley has been running on the sideline trying to get back in. But the drive starts without Amon promptly going down by a sack of by EPA Esa as that Iowa defense has been really really good. So far the offense been a little a Radic if they can get things going than Iowa could be a very very dangerous team. Also right now a little more than midway through the second quarter in Jacksonville. Georgia leads Florida ten to seven that game on CBS and right now from CBS sports dot com, we bring.

"The broadcast right here on wtmj are pregame starts at five wayne in terms of bread huntley developing is quarterback we've talked before about you know it's not going to be a steady progression there will be ups there will be downs but boy if you had to pick a tougher opponent for him to face match now tough this steelers defense is going to be the so learning curve gets no easier for him does he had no it so this is going to be interesting to see how mike mccarthy handles the call of this game as well you know the steelers had a real bad month of late september and early october against the run but since then they have been resolute they'd allowed an average of fifty eight point six yards a game in weeks the six through ten on the ground so there's not much solace they're in the year though the third right pass defense of yardage book the the thing that we all look at for defense when you talk about the past is passer third in the nfl as johnny four point two in the past already so this is gonna be a real tough defense to handle they rush the passer very well uh you know 34 stacks at second in the nfl and their fifth in the league in third down conversions at thirty three point three percent business this is a defense they'd been building since the super bowl super bowl 45 in it's finally have matured in is at like i said pitch level i don't asked this question be obtuse but his way to gain planning through the packers against the steelers or is it just a matter of execution i think the thing you want to do with the game plan is you want to be careful where you go in that secondary because they are so opportunistic but i think you've got to blend some rod you've got to make it work on the ground a little bit and help your young quarterback in that regard by the most part of the they've got to do is make sure but huggy gives the play time downfield to develop were there in the passing game and that's going to take past protection in a little more patience on threats part voice of the packers wayne lehrer be joining us live on wtmj have a great call sunday night will talk to you.
