"Benson, excuse me. Those three guys, I think I mentioned Travis a few minutes ago. I mean, he's considered one of the top quarterbacks in the country. I don't know. I mean, I think some of that game very well could be similar to the last game there. The one thing, the one advantage I think, I think both teams are better than they were a year ago. I don't think either team on that date were great. I thought, frankly, there was a sloppy game, and LSU pretty much had to do everything. It could lose it. I agree with that. It wasn't to be honest. I think the reason why Florida state won that game last year is because we had the week zero match up against duquesne, allowed them to get out there and go full speed and then LSU walks in all that playing anybody before that. And so that's a tough one to deal with. But I think going back to that biggest room of improvement for four to 8 this year is Johnny Wilson. I mean, that dude, you can't, what do you can't guard him one on one? He's 6, 7. I know it was a sloppy game again that we won against Oklahoma, but the way he was able to just go over and control control of the game like that. I thought was very impressive. And it gives me a lot to look forward to. Well, I can't wait to continue this conversation, Griffin. I may change my mind before we get to it. But right now, that's how I feel. We'll take a break. We are going to talk to Ari wasserman in a couple of minutes about what is happening on the recruiting trail. And if you're a Georgia fan a lot, has been going on. Ari joins us next. "Second hour has been a busy one so far. We have talked about some of the chaos at the ACC meetings in the first hour. We'll talk to Ari wasserman coming up here, evaluating what recruiting looks like. It's already well into the 24 recruiting class. Your phone calls continue as well and let's check in with special K in Orlando, special K go right ahead. Hey, Paul, thank you. Appreciate you. We chatted we chatted last Tuesday about four minutes and right at the end of the conversation is that man, that guy really talks fast. I told you I was a 21 year news and sports car on TV. I was very envious of your addiction. And you said, I didn't have to talk that fast out of the sports writer. And I want to say my only grandfather's name was Paul and he was a great guy, great guy. So you must be a great guy too. But I got a little excited. You said something right at the end of our conversation. In my 21 year career, I met three presidents Muhammad Ali, freaking Tiger Woods 20 times in the locker room. Dale Earnhardt senior, I met everybody, but I was kind of excited to talk to you. But once we talked about our next Saban at Kent State experience and I asked you the question, who his mentor was and you correctly nailed it with Don James, that's our opinion, in my opinion. And you indicated you were writing a book on that. Now, when I've listened to you and watched your show, you said, you're writing a book, but you bagged it because it wasn't going the way you thought it would be. My question to you is, if you're writing a book about Nick Saban, I want to buy it and where can I buy it? Well, it needs some clarification. I had a publisher call me right about a year ago. After this kerfuffle happened between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher and it was a year ago Thursday, I believe that happened. And the next day, an agent who had represented me called and a couple of weeks later, he said, listen, I really want this book and I want it badly, and he was with one of the biggest he was the biggest publishing house in the world. And he said, I need it. I want it for August of 24. And here is what I mean, this wasn't going on with me, but it was subsequently in negotiating negotiations with the agent. He made an offer, which was pretty astounding for a project like that, and I accepted it. I began doing the due diligence, and quite frankly, I didn't see the book. I didn't see the book. So it was complex enough to do it. So I decided to get out of it with the idea, maybe doing one later on just a more singular subject. Such as Sabin. That makes sense. I frankly think I did not like there was just some things about it. When you're rushing a book out, it's going to depend heavily on sensationalism. I don't think you can write a book that quickly. And I discovered that very quickly in the process. So I didn't waste a lot of time before I was able to get out of it. It may still be alive. I really haven't kept up with it because once I got out, I was done. But I have thought about that because I was reading something the other day about a guy who has just came out with a book this week on Martin Luther King Jr.. Now, Martin Luther King Jr. has been dead more than 50 years. You do books on people that have been dead a thousand years. So I really think I started thinking about that. In the aftermath, that was that's why I said what I did. To understand, I was in Memphis at the lane hotel, it was a spell bonding moment where the old cars there at the hotel there. Yeah, I know you're from Memphis and it was just freaking amazing. It's one of the most amazing spots. Of all the people you've met of all the folks you've interviewed, some of them are very quick. I know, but which one stood out? Which one meant the most to you? Well, people ask me that all the time. I will tell you the most disappointing night in my life. I turned down at dinner day with Elizabeth Taylor. Oh my. Because I was sitting in the restaurant and she had just handed out a trophy of Keenan and Lexington. I was doing a telethon at 1130. I was having diet cokes before I went on the air and no beers at 1130 19 hour 14 hour telethon. Starting at 1139 and the contingent came in and I knew the people they invited me to dinner, I had a telethon to go to. So that's the most disappointing. Next time I talk about Kentucky football, I'll maybe figure out who my best friend. But my guess is that Liz Taylor got over your rejection. Well, do you realize how tall she is? I don't know. I mean, I know enough about her. I mean, I know how many times she's been married, but I never knew how tall she was. Well, take a guess. You got Don James, right? Take a guess on this table. I'm guessing Liz was 5, 9 and a half. Four 11. Four 11? Four 11. That's why she always wore high heels. I never knew four 11. Well, that's what I'm saying when we talk. I think when I think of Elizabeth Taylor, I mostly think of her lying down, not standing up. A lot of the guys in the movies were in holes on the set because she was so short. That's what I read. And she was four 11. Richard Burton divorced her choice. Hey, thanks for the call. A lot of people don't even know who we were talking about. And I barely did. Griffin is up next in Florida. Hello, Griffin. Go right ahead. Hello, Paul. Thanks for having me on today. How are you doing? We are doing great. Thank you. Yeah, I just wanted to call in today. I know it's the SEC network and that's your thing, but Tallahassee fordham, the big four to state seminoles fan and that week one matchup we have against LSU, I think not only sets sets up the stage for our season, but LSU's as well. I'm just wanted to hear your thoughts on the game. I'm bachelorette back and forth. It is a critically important game. I think as you look at the game, I think the site favors Florida state a little bit, but I am impressed with what LSU has done in the off season. So at the moment, I'm leaning toward LSU. Let's say if I respect it, I'm obviously going to disagree being in Tallahassee, but the reason why I say that is because of three guys mainly on the offensive side of the ball from Florida state. It's like you could probably guess Jordan Travis Johnny Wilson. Oh my goodness, very important. Trey Benson, excuse me. Those three guys, I think I mentioned Travis a few minutes ago. I mean, he's considered one of the top quarterbacks in the country. I don't know.

"Com. So anyway, just keep that in mind and Dennis prager dot com. I just read his article this morning about basically about communism and how it's a realization of where we are now. He didn't think that communism per se could happen here because of western civilization. It's like we were immune to it except we're not. And so I want to talk about these stages of grief. But I want to I want to give you a little more background. So I ended up fighting for my daughter for custody at a very young age. Again, I wasn't living this great life. There's no doubt about it. I was a little wannabe hood lemon and just a little player player, you know, out there, doing stuff that I shouldn't have been doing. Frankly, and then my girlfriend and I at the time were living in San we ended up having a child out of wet luck and you know when you're young and stupid and sometimes disastrous things happen, but anyway, she and I ended up breaking up, it was on again on again off again relationship, but then once we had our child, I was like, dude, I am gonna buckle down our hunker down. I know better than this. This is not who I am. I shouldn't be living this way. You know, I didn't have a clear conscience, to be honest with you. And so it was just, it was just a weird dynamic. And a eventually, I had gone to jail and had been arrested on a couple of times and then I ended up doing community service at a church here locally in Orlando called faith assembly, headed up the singer passer was pastor Carl Stevens at the time, now it's pastor Johnny Wilson, both amazing, amazing pastors, amazing men of God and I serve community service there and under the under the mentorship of a guy Jim angelakis. This was a white guy that loved me and hugged on me and prayed for me and told me that he loved me for the very first time and it totally broke me, but that started changing my life. And when I would go back to my girlfriend, she was still living a different at the time, she was still living a different lifestyle, but my heart and my mind was starting to change. And it was very difficult for her and I didn't understand this. I'm a young guy. It was very difficult for her to accept the Carl that was in all of a sudden the Carl that is, or the Carl that is becoming, if you will. And I totally get that now. I didn't understand it at the time being in a very young mind. Let me stop here. Because eventually what I'm going to get to is when being mean is being kind. I want you to hear that. Sometimes, being mean is being kind. And this is what conservatives don't get, and I would say Republicans and I would say maga Republicans. Sometimes being mean is being kind. Now I'm not talking about being a jerk. Please, that's not what I'm talking about. But I want you to hear me and I want you to understand, but I needed to interject so that you understood where I was going. Some time being mean. Is being kind. And so my girlfriend and I, we were not, we were starting to clash. All this stuff that was cool, you know, week or two or a month ago was no longer cool anymore to me. She decided to break up with me. I'm fast forwarding here. She decided to break out with me and you know what she did. And again, no animosity. It was crazy, but no animosity. She moved out from her parents house, and she moved in with another guy. And she didn't tell me where..

"When you just made a statement, this is Isaiah 5 20. Good is called evil, evil is called good, truth is called lies, lies are called good. How can anybody in their right mind be okay with a biological man walking into a bathroom of our daughters and just say, well, it's all good. It's a lie from hell and we need to say no more. Period. Ah, man, thank you for the strong words. Frank, I mean, man need to be challenged men want to be held accountable. They need to be encouraged and united. I've gone to a men's encounter at my own church where it was just life-changing. Just talk a little bit more about your ministry as we close out here. We are not a church ministry, as I said, we're a Christian men's ministry, and we challenge men to get right with God. We are not hard on men, per se, like rules, and this is the way you have to do it. I think testimonies and honesty and transparency speaks of the essence. We of course is in leadership. We have our sunship course coming up. We do gatherings. We do retreats. We're just a bunch of jacked up dudes that know who we are in Christ and say anybody, especially young men. Come alongside us, let us show you who the warrior Christ is. And it's a game changer. And then we got to get after and get in the fight. Because again, the biggest lie right now is we are in a battle for the hearts and souls of men. And a lot of men don't even understand who the enemy is. Period. Man, absolutely. I love it. I mean, that's what I experienced at my church and it drew me to the church from my pastor Carl Stevens. He just retired, but pastor Johnny Wilson that's taken over. And even right here at our radio studio, at my buddy's American adversary's man, a group of guys that do a radio show, I love listening to them.

"Your conversation helps so many other people who are listening to the show this morning and they learn from you. So let's find out how to get through to us here on this beautiful Saturday morning, our executive producer Donald the Hammer shoestring. Thank you, Dr Joe again, and well, if anyone has ever heard of a win win situation, we got an opportunity for one right now. If you call us right now, you help us get the show going for the six o'clock hour and you get your answer. To question quickly, So we're good because our show gets going. You're good, because you get the answer to your question. So give us a call right now. 808 590 w. J. R. That's 808 590957 calls will start to kind of build on back up a little bit. Maura's the Morning goes on. So here is a good time to call 800. 8590 Line 57 and a sports story for us this morning, Joe. I do and it's not related to hockey. Unbelievable, but here's the story. We lost the great man. You just a day or so goal fella by the name of Hank Aaron. And here's how the story with with Hank Aaron. Johnny Wilson, former NHL star for many years and I were at Giannopoulos is Restaurant one Saturday evening. And peach in office, and Johnny and I were getting ready to leave. When Pete Giannopoulos, one of the owners, great guy came running nowhere. We were sitting at our table and said, Guys, don't leave. Don't leave. He says, Uh, I might need you around here for a few minutes. We just got a phone call that Hank Aaron is in town. He's visited some friends and it was like with the kitchen closed a 10 o'clock. So he said, Uh, somebody called us said Mr Hank Air and just hungry. Hasn't had dinner, visited some friends late and Wonders if he could come over and have a bite to eat. While John Pete was so excited and he came over to Johnny and I said, Listen, guys, he says that he's all alone and I still have a crowd in here, but we're gonna open up the kitchen for him. So in walked this gentleman Hank, Aaron and Pete fixed him up with one of the top tables, and he said down and order something to eat, and Johnny said to me, Let's watch over Dr him. He's all alone. And I said, not I. He doesn't want to be bothered by us, he said. What do you talking about, he says. I played in the NHL for 20 years. I got something to talk to him my boat, so we walked over and asked if we could sit down and Johnny introduced us and we had such a nice conversation. But we talked about his era of baseball and what he had to go through as a black athlete in the baseball league and all of that. And then as we were talking, Johnny said to him, he said, Well, you know, he said. When I was playing hockey here in Detroit for many years, he said, We were not allowed to have a glass of water or a bottled of water while we were playing. He said. What and he made reference the what they were treating Johnny or they treated the hockey players with Detroit. Like they were slaves. Put not marked on the ice and, you know, accelerating and sweating. That hockey game is And anyway, he was just too made this amazed The Jack Adams wouldn't allow the players. Have a gulp of water while they work playing unbelievable, And that's how Jack Adams was a little strange in many ways, But he said, if you drink a mouthful of water It will slow you down while you're playing. It'll make you a just a little bit heavier. Anyways, that's still unbelievable. Today. He let the guys have oranges, and he went in addressing only at a whole bucket oranges. They're ready to dig in and grab an orange in not too healthy. But anyways, that's a little story of Baseball and not hockey this morning tomorrow morning. You have to wait for the story will bring one in on hockey. I'm Joe Gannon, your appliance doctor, his name. Executive director, producer of this radio show, Donald the Hammer, Schuster. Thank you, Joe. And we're doing it with the help of my Daniel Mason on audio this morning. She's making sure the show sounds good. We got Brian Morton helping us on phones. We thank him for that. We're here for your live Saturday morning, January 23rd 20. When he won. I started in radio broadcast sales selling advertising time. 43 years ago today in Detroit at W W. J F M a 97.1 W W. J F M when it was a beautiful music station. And the morning guy, the morning guy that would come in and suit that was Monta Vanni and coming up, you know the Hollywood's rich singers or whatever. The morning I was w. J r newsman Ken Rygel ski 43 years ago. There you go. All right, Let's go to the phones. Let's start out international to kick this off. Go to Sarnia, Ontario. We gotta G profile fridge. It's making noise might be leveling problem. Maybe not. This is Matt. Good morning, Matt. Thanks for calling And how may we help you? Joe? How are you? Morning, 100%, sir. Awesome. Okay, so young, like my fridge is it's like it's making a noise in the back like the like. The fans kind of touching something. It's not really loud. It just kind of like background noise. But when I push on the top towards the back to kind of level it quiet. It's gone. Sound gone, but when I put a level on it, it makes the fridge a little bit on level. Is that If you're going to cause a problem with the fridge, and I make it just like the balls just touching the line on the one side. It's not like it's way out of level. But all right. Well, let me ask you a question that if you open the door on the refrigerator, maybe 10 12 inches and logical. Does the door closed by itself? Um, no, it doesn't close all the way just kind of They kind of bounces back before closed. All right, well, here's my suggestion to you to leveling legs in the front. You could take a pair of channel locks and just turn them clone a clockwise. Until you raise the front of the refrigerator half inch higher than the rear. Okay, that's gonna help to close the doors by themselves. How old is the refrigerator? Bought it last year. All right, well, it maybe maybe it won't help you, but you should raise the front up a little bit to see what happens now. Here's another one neighbor of mine one year of several years ago, says I gotta buy new refrigerator. The compressors bad. I says. Really, Yeah, he says he cool with us. Sometimes it doesn't. While it's the compressors of that you're not gonna be cooling at all. So I said, Well, I'll come up and see it. So I went over to his house. I looked at it and service technicians have a trick. There's a fan motor underneath the refrigerator that moves air across the compressor, and the condenser removes the heat in the through refrigeration from inside the product and that fan motor has a blade.

Yes, we begin the radio programs these days with hockey stories of the days gone by, and this morning story is about Johnny Wilson, hockey player of he and his Brother Larry joined the NHL way back in the early fifties, played for the Red Wings for years, and Toronto and hey, was quite a guy in the best storyteller ever in the NHL. Now Johnny and I and Bill Gatsby and joke Okay, used to do a radio program on WJR in the evening on Saturday nights. And we'd flood the lines with collars. Kids in particular. Who had hockey cards and would call into the show from Vermont and Florida and California and all over the place. And so one day on the weekend, my son Andrew, and I were doing the radio show together, and Johnny called me on a Friday night, said Joe. The washer is not working. I said Johnny, listen to Andrew and I are on this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, and the show was in the afternoons and early or late morning and I said, Look at Andrew and I'll stop by the house. Take a look at the washing machine. Which we did on a Sunday afternoon, and Johnny who was known to be Uh, tight with the dollars which you have to remember. Those NHL hockey players all have to work in the summer months because they didn't make enough money. T even afford two cars. Let's put it that way. So, uh, Andrew and I went over to Johnnie's house and Johnny like he wanted to know. What I drank. So he called Mitch, the bartender at Giannopoulos, his restaurant, Nast. Um, what does Joe drink? Was that special drink? Well, Joe drank drink that you had to sip. Nice and slow DRAM bully and Southern comfort for any. Anybody buying DRAM bully. They know how expensive it is. And so Johnny and I walked in the house. And Johnny says you tell me what you drink, So I got everything there is here. I got everything. And so I said, Well, grand bullying, So I got it. I got it. What? He had just gone to the store to buy it. Which he called Mitch at the bartender John Office to tell him you know what a bottle of Drambuie cost Holy Corolla. They're so anyways. We sat down in the living room and Johnny Fix me a drink, and Andrew said, I'll go look at the wash machine. So hey, does he fixes no matter of five minutes, And then he says to a Johnny says, Mr Wilson, he says, I'm going to go outside. And I'm gonna check out how your dryers blowing hair out through the vent line. I want to make sure it's clean, clear, So so Johnny gets up and he goes into the laundry room, and Pat looks at me and starts laughing and I said, What are you laughing for? She says Joe, he's never Never in his life used the washer and dryer. Better. He doesn't even know how to turn on the dryer. Also, we sat there and big smiles on our face and Andrews outside and he's yelling in the vent line. Mr. Wilson turned the dryer on now. And we wait and we wait and Andrew yells again, Mr. Wilson. You turned it right on there. Are you in there? Yeah, Andrew is is Andrew is that Can't turn it on. I don't know how. While Johnny Pad his wife and I laughed our heads off and fi. Finally Pat had to go to the locker room to turn the dryer on. But it goes to show you how the wives of days gone by in the NHL. How They ran. The whole family raised the kids, and I've talked to a lot of the wise really, and they had a chore on their heads because these guys were gone. You know, a 55 games a year, whatever. And it was quite an experience and quite a wonderful experience because Johnny Wilson Why's that kind of guy and unfortunately, both. Just a few years ago, both Pat at Johnny both passed away. But that's my little hockey story about Johnny Wilson this morning. Which brings so many fun memories back tomorrow morning. It'll be you know, as I said so many times. "Is Donald the hammer Schuster. Thank you. Appliance. Dr. Joe Gannon, Joe, We're going to create a new cliche today. Have you ever heard the cliche? The early bird gets the worm? Yes. I've heard of many times. I've done heavy research. Our listeners are not interested in worms. They're interested in getting their clients. Questions answered. So we're going to start a new one says the early caller gets their questions answered. And here is the phone number to call 808 59. Zero W J R do it real slow so you could jot it down. Entered in your contacts. Use it right now To get your answer, 808. 590957 another new tradition we're creating here. There's something called a bedtime story. We love our early warning. 605 a m story, Joe, What's What do you got for us today? Well this morning, I'm going to repeat not repeat a story but repeat the name John Ferguson. And Brian Bugsy Watson, both playing for Montreal, Way back in the early sixties, mid sixties and just a couple of terrors on the ice. John Ferguson was a big man and a tough man in the NHL. One of the tough guys in the league at that time and bugs. He was just a little guy, but just the stuff and they got into well. John Ferguson got into a fight, which was normal and he was batting away and having a good time and enjoying the fight, as they do in hockey and So But Bugsy who liked you know they're both on the same team. So Bugsy come flying in down the ice and he sees the fight going on. So he jumps into the fight and He hits John Ferguson, his own Blair right in the eye. He leaned over and John moved the wrong direction and bugs. He nailed him right in the eye. And John and Bugsy. We're sitting up this outing I was at anyways, They're sitting there and having a pop and John says the Bugsy. Oh, I remember that one. I remember that one, he says. When you plug me right in the eye, he says, and then we went and sat in the penalty box because we both got a penalty. And he said, My eye was just throbbing, Just throbbing. He says that I kept looking at you and I'm I. I wanted to give you one right back. But he says I couldn't He says. Here's 20,000 people in the Montreal form and he said, but I couldn't needs that. But I wanted to so bad, he says. Matter of fact, it feels so good, he says. Just thinking about it, he says. I would like to give you one right now in payment of that one back in the mid 60. Well, nothing happened. We just laughed our heads off. But that's just a little story about John Ferguson and Bugsy Watson and next weekend I'm gonna let me get being given one personally personally about the Johnny Wilson days. You know Johnny Wilson, Bill Gadsby and joke. Okay, but the three of them used to come to the station on a Saturday night. I think it was started at 10 o'clock at night. We used to do a radio show for a whole year. And, uh and the kids used to call from New Hampshire. You know how strong the signal is. You know, at 10 o'clock at night. They used to call in and say if I send you your hockey card, will you send it back to me Signed, Uh, Bill Gatsby told me, he says, I get more email now more more letters. "Then grab the telephone on. Join us here this morning. We're gonna be with you till eight o'clock. Helping as many consumers as we can, and I always like to start off the show lately. With the hockey story from the NHL days there was a good friend we had in our family and in the NHL. His name was Johnny Wilson. He was a player with the Red Wings. He was a coach with the Red Wings and several other teams in the NHL, and he told the best of stories. Anybody who knows the name Johnny Wilson. Who has ever heard him tell stories about his days playing and his days coaching, you would die laughing because he was just us. Funny as a man can be. And I remember the days when he told me about coaching other teams like Pittsburgh, Colorado, etcetera, where he got a big kick out of Dressing up in a suit. There was a time limit. You had to be in your room as an NHL player, and I believe was 10 o'clock and he used to go sit in the stairways. And he'd wait for this footsteps coming down the hall and to be a player or two going out after curfew and dressed up in their suit, shirt and tie and so forth, and you were fined. If you were caught leaving your room after 10 o'clock. No, Johnny used to tell all sorts of stories. And I do believe Mickey Redman, our local voice here. Was caught a few times in those days. So where he was going where they were going? I don't know, but I'm sure they were going out Gallivanting around town someplace. That's the little story of One of the best guys ever to play the game who passed away just a few years ago and well, it's a sad time when we lose one of them, and we've lost many on I'm Joe again and the guy coming up, but that's soft executive voice is our executive producer, Donald the Hammer, Schuster. Thank you clients, Dr Joe again, and I feel like we haven't talked since last year, Joe Yeah, Very good. Yeah, you know, but I'll tell you this year, my New Year's Eve, even though I'm still wearing my New Year's Eve cap, and so got my noisemaker and all of that it was absolutely cramped by the pandemic this year because normally a New Year's Eve, Joe, Here's what I do. I'm at a House party. Only about 20. People are so at 11 58 on New Year's Eve, I get on a little step stool and I'll climb up to the chandelier in the room. And then I'll get ready to Swain as the crowd counts down from tent one at the stroke of midnight, I swing on the chandelier and at the stroke of midnight exactly land right in the punch full below and splash it out onto the entire crowd. What do you think of that? Yeah, funny just thinking about it. That's the way to bring in the new year. Let's bring in this morning Saturday, January 2nd 2021. Here's the phone number to call with your appliance repair questions. It's 808 590. W. J. R That's 800. 8590957 everybody's own supply. Ince's Everybody's had a repair problem. They've had to pay for that repair. They just too soon avoided going forward. Maybe we can help you out. 800. 8590957. Let's kick it off with our caller from Wickes. Um she's got a question regarding her speed queen will wash her. This is Jan. Good morning. Jan. Thanks for calling. And I may we help you? I'm good morning. Thanks for taking my call. Actually, I'm calling. I'm calling for my daughter. She needs a new washing machine and I know that you recommend the speed queen. I was wondering if there is a particular model that you were recommending. She doesn't want all the bells and whistles. Well, first of all, let me say there are three models of speak Queen washers. One. Then another one. And as you go up in the numbers, they have more features. Now, what do you need in a washing machine That's for her to decide Jam. I trust you will soon be a family of five. So there's a lot of washing going. Yeah. Now, here's the other thing about speed queen. They have three different types of warranty. They're all full warranty is with a full warranty mean that statement means you don't pay for anything. Service call apart the labor. So they have three different Orantes. As you go up in the model numbers, the top one has a seven year full warranty. And then there's the five year full warranty. And then the three year full warranty. Now just that factor alone has to tell you this company speed queen made in Ripon, Wisconsin, on American made washing machine that washing machine if they can put that kind of this company's been around for over 100 years. And the washer that you're buying for your home is basically the same washer that they've been selling to the laundromats first since laundromats were invented. So you're getting a commercial grade washing machine, and I could remember days when, uh The label on a washing machine, and they were bold about it and said, you know, commercial grade washing machine. It was said, but it wasn't true. And but make speed. Queens is true, and they don't make a washing machine with that kind of warranty, unless they're pretty sure about their machine. The other thing about speed Queen washer When you go to a store and you see the literature you'll see on the front cover of their literature. It says Expect 25 plus years. With this washing machine? No, nobody else. The average life of a washing machine. Today is 7 to 10 years. If you're lucky, you may have three or four service calls during that period, but not so with speak Queen getting you imagine seven years not having to worry about the costs absorbed or By speed queen because it's got that kind of quality. And really, if I'm doing a selling job here I am intentionally and I must say that speak Queen does not advertise on this radio program is a matter of fact. I don't know it's speed Queen has ever advertised. You'd never see their ads on TV or anything like that. They don't need to. They really don't need to. Right now. It's tough to find a speed queen because they had to shut the factory down for a few weeks before because of this covered thing, And so now they're playing catch up like everybody else's. And that's another fair warning to all consumers If you're shopping for a new major home appliance You do it now, But if you can't find it, they don't have it in stock. You may end up waiting for some time. So I hope all of this helps you. Yeah, that helps her. Yes, it does, And that I was wondering if that would be a problem. So if they weren't able to get a speed queen, um what would be the next suggestion Maytag or World Pool or Well, here's another one when people say Maytag, really, You're buying a world pool washing machine. Maytag was all along for years made the best washing machine in the industry. Some 15 years ago, World parole purchased the Maytag company out of Newton, Iowa. And it is. It's a world full washing machine, and it's also a good washing machine. But I point out, Okay, you get a year's warranty with a world full and you get a seven year warranty. With the speed queen. So there's quite a difference in the warranties and quite a difference in the life expectancy as well. So somebody who says Hey, I can't afford a speed queen. Well, I know they're a little on the high side, Not much, but they're a little on the high side. But if you buy another brand of washer, and it only lasts 7 to 10 years And then you get the inflated price down 10 years from now. You might as well have about three or four world poor, other brands of washers and bottom now and just keep it for down the road. Yes, I understand you all of the speed queens have an agitator Yester. Okay. And would you suggest buying any additional on warranty on? Um, be queen? No, I would not definitely not. Okay. All right. Okay. Uh, All right. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. I listen to you all the time. That's very nice of you. Thanks for calling. Happy New year you too. Okay. Have a good day. But by thanks, Bye Bye. We are the home of the plan show we're up and running. We got Daniel Mason helping us out on audio Eric.

Opposition MPs turn to ethics committee to probe SNC-Lavalin affair

"Canadians will have yet another chance to possibly hear the full story behind the scandal. That has completely changed both the image. They have of their prime minister and the landscape of the coming election. So will they know probably not for a whole bunch of reasons. If you wanna know how things are really going in Ottawa these days track down your grade. Seven civics textbook. Flip it open to the section densely packed with the arcane rules of parliamentary procedure, and then realize that there are tens of millions of dollars worth of politicians, and lawyers and advisers and pundits. And editors all trying to decipher the implications of the same damn stuff that they ignored back in middle school. And most of them are screaming at each other while they do welcome to the SNC laflin scandal part. I don't know part thirty six the part where the opposition asks again, and the government refuses again, and we all wonder how the hell Canadians will actually get the answers they want. And as it turns out, there are a few ways that that could happen whether Justin Trudeau lakes or not. I'm Jordan heath Rawlings. And this is the big story for MAC mcsweeney is the parliament hill reporter for city news for Rogers radio for the big story too. I is it going it's going well, except that this is the scandal that won't go away. And something new is about to happen today. It's going on Tuesday in Ottawa. Well, the ethics committee is meeting this afternoon to discuss the SNC lavon affair. I it's the second committee. That's going to be taking a look at all of this. And the conservatives have put forward a motion to basically launch another investigation into this affair after the Justice committee probe was shut down by the liberal majority on the committee after hearing from several key witnesses in this controversy on budget day, the committee decided that they had heard enough that they didn't need to hear anymore. Testimony on the. This and they were going to move on without coming to any sort of final report. They just let sort of you know, these witnesses air their stories and left it at that. And so now, the opposition is pushing for more testimony more witnesses. They're also calling for the prime minister to further wave privilege in all of this. So that they can get the rest of the story if you will. And so that's what we're waiting on to see whether the liberal majority on this committee, and since they're majority government, they have a majority on these committees. Whether they will allow another investigation after shutting down the first one, why would I mean, not to be partisan or anything? But like if they shut it down on the last committee, what is going to change this time, Jordan, if you're betting man, the odds would be against the liberals actually allowing this investigation to go through. And if if they're lines from the last. Committee investigation, and the reasoning as to why they shut that down will be used in this one of then you can expect the liberals to just simply say, look we've heard everything we need to hear within Canadians can make up their own minds about what happened. It's time to move on the former attorney general had had the chance to fully tell her story on whether or not she was pressured into all of this. And and that's that. So I I just imagine that they won't, but we'll have to wait and see you can you can never fully predict something in politics. And this controversy is is is proof of that. Because I don't think last year at this time anybody could even have had the idea that we'd be in this situation right now discussing the liberals polling numbers dropping the conservatives. Well, ahead of the liberals over a controversy that you know, had pitted. He liberal cabinet ministers against the prime minister's office. I I don't. Anybody could have predicted something like this. So where we go from here who really knows. The odds are against the fact that the liberals would would agree to this ethics investigation. What does a committee investigation typically, look like any way, and how typical or atypical was the Justice committee when they often are related to public policy issues and not sort of surrounded by controversies like we're seeing here. So it is unusual in that sense where it's not a common occurrence where we're having these major scandals that committees are investigating, but the committees are an avenue for parliamentarians to investigate things like this, especially when there are serious allegations, such as what we have here that the prime minister's office was putting improper pressure on the attorney general to make specific decision in a case that was before the AG the allegations are serious, and where you fall on after the testimony. I mean, I guess. It all depends on who you believe in the end, but they're serious enough allegations at I think, it was appropriate and even the liberals agreed that it was appropriate that the Justice committee look at this topic. So the Justice committee investigation was ended and the liberal said at that point, the essentially there were no stories left to tell the conservatives wanted ethics investigation because they say, there are still stories left to tell what don't we know because I know Jodie Wilson rebel and Jane Philpott have both spoken about this. But the conservatives want them to talk about other aspects of the affair the ordering council that was given by the prime minister to waive solicitor, client privilege and cabinet confidence to allow Jodie Wilson Ray bold and others involved in the allegations of improper pressure to freely speak about all of this that only applies for the time that Jodie Wilson rave old was attorney general so in relation to the SNC case one. She left and was shuffled out of the Justice. File she basically couldn't talk about what happened when she moved veterans affairs and on that shuffle day. That's where the story ends both Jodie Wilson Ray, bold. And Jane Philpott another minister, she was treasury board. President does she was involved in that shuffle decided to quit cabinet because she had lost confidence in the government's handling of the essence affair, but both Jane Philpott and Jodie Wilson. Ray bowled say that there is more to the story and Philpott spoke recently with mcclain's last week saying there is much more to this that needs to be told and because the order in council that granted the waving of all the privilege only ends when Jodie Wilson. Ray gold's left the attorney general's position. There are still questions about what happened after that. What was said after that in conversations with the prime minister between a Wilson Ray Gould's. And Justin Trudeau or others in his office such as Gerald butts, his former principal adviser because there were questions about that Jodie Wilson rebel did say that she thought that she was being pushed out of the position because of the SNC decision all conversations that happened after she left that position. She can't talk about. And so that's the big question. Mark over this. What else is there to say? And we still don't know the only way we will find out is if we hear from Jodi Wilson rebelled or Jane Philpott if she decides to talk about this. And you know, the question now is will we hear from them? And what will we hear from them if they decide to speak out in any form, how could they do guys? So there are many different ways that they could we could have another ordering council from the prime minister's office that extends the waving of privilege to go beyond. Johnny Wilson Ray Boltz time as attorney general. So if the prime minister. Decides to do that you know that would give her the free and clear because as a lawyer as attorney general to Canada, you're essentially, the government's lawyer and solicitor client privilege means that discussions around things that are not allowed to be made public a campy made public on unless you get you know, the permission of your client, which in this case would be the government and the prime minister. So if he decided to do that that would give Jodie Wilson Ray bowled, the the chance to speak possibly Jane Philpott, as well, what are the chances that that happens given that they shut down the Justice committee investigation, while the prime minister's already indicated that he doesn't think that there needs to be a further waving of privilege. He hasn't said in those exact terms, I don't believe. But when asked about this several times over the last couple of weeks about further, waving privilege. He has come back to the fact that he believes that the former attorney general Jodie Wilson rebelled was able to address all of the. The issues on the question at hand. Which is was there. Improper pressure on the over the essence he case he feels that the initial waving of privilege answered that question or allowed her to tell her full story on that question. She says there's more to the story. But he he believes that enough has come out already. He's satisfied with what he's heard. And he says Canadians have heard enough to make a determination about whether or not. There was any improper pressure in this case. So does she have any other options than if she wanted to get her truth out? This is interesting because recently there have been more and more calls about what is known as parliamentary privilege, and this is the idea that you can say anything you want in the house of Commons as an MP, and you are not going to be held responsible in any legal way for what you say in the house of Commons. I mean, you could get kicked out of the house of Commons, but you can say almost anything. And you know, they're they're free from defamation. Lawsuits are free from any kind of legal consequences for what they say in the house of Commons. So with that being said the question has been raised recently by a number of liberal MP's who seem to be getting frustrated with this whole scandal saying, well, why don't they just stand in the house and say what they have to say if this is so important to the national conversation about SNC laflin and the functioning of our government than just get out with it. Stand up in the house and say something, but there are limitations to that. It's not as simple as that. When you get up to in the house of Commons. The there's a procedure here, and you have to follow that procedure. Otherwise, you won't be recognized by the speaker, and you can't get up and speak. It's not a free for all. So as much as parliamentary privilege trumps all other privileges, meaning that solicitor, client privilege and cabinet confidence. Don't apply when it comes to parliamentary privilege and speaking in the house of Commons. They can only speak at certain times. So they. Could speak either Philpott or Jodie Wilson Ray bowled, but let's focus on Wilson rebelled since she's the person at the center of ultras. She could give a member statement every day before question period. Members have a chance to stand up and give what's called an SO thirty one standing thirty one. Which means they have about a minute to say, whatever the heck they want a minute is not along though. I think she spent around four hours testifying so run minute is really not a lot of time to get to the heart of the matter. Another thing she could do is stand up in the house of Commons and raise a point of personal privilege. This goes back to the argument that if it is so important to the nation and given the allegations that the AG felt improper pressure standing up in the house of Commons on a point of privilege could be a very valid point to make and she would have more time to speak at a point of personal privilege, if she felt her privileges were, you know, breached in some way through this scandal, which seems to be what she has. Been talking about since the start since these allegations came out, so she could do that. But even then the speaker doesn't always let you just go on and on for four hours the other the other option that I just want to squeeze in here, the one that that could give them a little bit more time to speak, but it might take some participation of the opposition members. Which would just make things really weird and awkward considering these two members are still members of the liberal party. But if there is a motion, a when you speak in the house of Commons, it has to be relevant to what is at hand. So, you know, if you raise a point of personal privilege, what follows has to be related to that point. If there's a motion from the opposition. And there have been a couple of motions already so they had the option to potentially speak. If there's a motion before the house of Commons. They could get up and speak to that any MP really has a right to get up and speak to emotion that is before the house as a part of normal debate. And then they take questions from the other parties about. What they had just said in their statement. They're limited on time with that though, they could get, you know, consent to continue on speaking and opposition MP's could also share their time. So if they decided to speak, then maybe a conservative MP would say, you know, what I'm going to hand my time over to Jodie Wilson rebelled to allow her to have. Yeah. Keep going keep going. So that's one thing that could happen. But that takes some agreement behind the scenes, and it would be rather unusual for an MP of the sitting governing party to strike some sort of deal with position MP's to have more time to speak in that scenario on the the final one that could be, but is unlikely as unanimous consent to make a statement in the house of Commons, three unanimous, consent and peace can do almost anything. They want in the house of Commons. If all MP's agree then anything's possible. So if Wilson Rabaul says, I have a statement. Wanna make it in the house of Commons. I'm seeking unanimous consent to give that statement at whatever time if every single party an MP agrees. Nobody objects when that motion is put forward to the speaker. Then they could do that. We'll have to wait and see whether they try to take advantage of that. Because you know, there are other avenues that they could take. In the meantime, to to try and get their story out with so many avenues. And so many people kind of calling from his Wilson Ray bowl to to speak to what she says is still left to be told. It seems strange to me. And please correct me if I'm wrong that the prime minister is willing to let this be dragged out so much as opposed to realizing that it's probably going to be addressed anyway and an opening up a a way for her to talk does that I am I way off base here. Does that not seem strange to anybody else auto from the early stages of this controversy? There have been a lot of criticisms from pundits. And political experts. About the way the Trudeau government has handled. This the conservatives argue that the liberal story keeps changing every day. I I don't think that's fair because I think it's not that it's changed. It's just that. They only allowed little bits to come out. Yeah. In dribs and drabs, and that kind of helps keep this thing going and a lot of people were confused about why they chose that strategy rather than just the rip the band aid off strategy. Get it out there get it out all on the table. You've got months to go before an election. You can deal with the damage early on let some heads roll. And for people who might be responsible. If there's if there was any wrongdoing and then just move on. Because that's the, you know, as some political experts have said, that's the way you deal with a controversy like this in politics. There have been some questions about the handling of this from the Trudeau government, and whether they they handle this properly. The at all. But now we're in a in a situation where it seems like every few days or at least once a week. We've got a new thing coming out last week before the budget. It seemed like the Trudeau government was trying to put this to bed. We saw the clerk of the Privy Council resign on the Monday. The prime minister announced that he was going to appoint a new adviser to advise the government, and and released recommendations on how they can change the relationship between the government and the attorney general, which you know, the big question there is do you split Justice minister role and attorney general role. And then the budget was the day that the Justice committee ended the investigation into the SNCF air. We we've now found out that the the prime minister spoke with Jodie Wilson Ray bowled on the Monday about the next steps, and he called it a cordial conversation. So one assumes that he was giving her the heads up about the actions that were were happening. On the Monday and Tuesday. But then by the Friday, Jodie Wilson Rabo publicly announced that she's going to be giving a written submission to the Justice committee complete with text messages and emails which she had promised to produce. But also some new evidence in her possession. So whenever she decides to submit that written submission. It's going to put this story back in the headlines, and we're gonna be talking about it yet. Again, not only that but the opposition has done its work to try and keep the story in the headlines disrupting the budget by delaying the speech, and then when Finance Minister Bill more, no spoke, they banged their desks and drowned him out than staged a walkout on break weeks when it was feared that the liberals might get a little bit of a break from coverage. That's when all these emergency committee meetings are happening, including the ethics committee meeting that we're talking about. So the opposition has been doing its work to try and keep this in the headlines despite some criticisms that they. Of they went to extreme too fast with the calling of the resignation of the prime minister that they kind didn't have anywhere else to go. The they promised us every tool in the toolbox. And it seems like they're they're continuing to do that. And look we're talking about it. So I guess if that's their goal to keep us talking about it. Then they're achieving that goal despite whether it was the best way or not politically speaking, of course. Oh god. I means we're gonna talk about this till October doesn't chrome. Yeah. I fully expect, you know, there are questions about whether there's going to be an early campaign call from the prime minister, and that we'd be heading to the polls this spring, not the fall, which doesn't fully make sense in in the basic way that the band aid off a. Yeah, it just doesn't make you know, you look at the facts, the liberals are pulling at their lowest point, I think in Justin Trudeau's mandate, so far you've got months to go to repair the damage, including the summer vacation where a lot of Canadians just tune out of the news. And then tune back in the fall where you can kind of reset the narrative again, you know, there there are those options out there for the prime minister. So an early election, call would seem odd, but the conservatives are pouncing on on that speculation and trying to fundraise off of it saying we need money now there could be an early election. So the opposition parties are are enjoying this because they got the fundraise off of it. But you know, the prime minister's office has been clear has been asked many many times over. The last year. Will there be an early election? They've never wavered from the fact that they said that they're going to stick with the fixed election date that prime minister Stephen Harper had put in place of October. Although that's not technically binding, you can break it. And I think Harper did as well. So it's not technically binding, but Justin Trudeau promised in October vote. And I think this is going to be one of those issues that the opposition continues to hammer on the campaign trail so to answer your question. Yeah. I think we will still be talking about this in October, regardless of what the election results will be last question are these stories from MS Wilson, Rabo them as Philpott going to come out some way like it seems inevitable now to me and my wrong about that. What's your thought? Here's the issue. Both Wilson Ray bold. And Jane Philpott have said that they have their concerns in. They're very cautious about the issues of solicitor, client privilege and cabinet confidentiality. Now, we spoke earlier. Earlier about how they could get up in the house, and they could say anything they want in the house of Commons and be protected from any legal consequences when they speak in the house because they enjoy parliamentary privilege, which allows which trumps all other privileges, and confidences, etc. So they could do that. But there hasn't to do something like that Jane Philpott in her interview with mcclain's was asked. Why don't you just do that as she said? Part of the issue is is timing. Of course, an and we went through that pretty clearly that there are limitations on how long they can speak in. If they've got another four hours worth of testimony. It's not going to be easy to use the house of Commons as the avenue to get that story out so Philpott aside from timing Philpott also gave a very interesting answer about the dynamic in liberal caucus and her relationship with colleagues, which I think is another aspect to all of this is really focused on it was fascinating to hear. Because you don't always hear that. She was talking about how a lot of her colleagues. Again, she is still a liberal MP. And the prime minister has given no indication that he plans to boot either Philpott or Wilson Ray bolt from his caucus Philpott has said that her actions and her decision to quit cabinet has created a lot of uneasiness amongst people who used to be closer colleagues in caucus, and she feels that some feel that her motives are not that that she's doing something that sort of works against the party, and that's creating friction with people. She never used to have friction with. And so she opened up a little bit about the personal struggles that she has in doing what she's doing. But says she's trying to you know, do what she's always done in. That is a take a moral stand. She doesn't care about what happens to her as a result of that. But clearly those personal relationships are taking toll for Jody Wilson Ray bowl. You know, you have not only cabinet confidence as as a concern out of all of this. But you also have. Hitter client privilege, and so there's some caution there because they don't want to break this oath that they made to the country so lightly just because people are saying we'll just get out and say it in the house of Commons. There's a very serious oath that you take when you join cabinet where you agree to serve her majesty the Queen and to keep all of the secrets that are held as a privy counsellor it to keep those secret essentially os are not usually easily broken by people who take those oaths they feel passionately about what they do regardless of political stripe. So that's something else. It sort of weighing over both Jodie Wilson Ray bold and Jane Philpott about whether they just get out there and tell their story, despite the fact that there's personal privilege whether or not we got the full story out of this. You know, there are avenues for both the Trudeau government and for Jody Wilson Rabo than Jane Philpott to make the decision to get that full story out. Whether they take those those avenues is another question altogether. And we'll just have to wait and see.
