"Talk about it. Let's get back to dream because that's really the show's all about the yeah. We kinda went way off topic there. podcast brought to you by being injured Would you cool flashback of Jimmy. At his father's this general and I find that was like the biggest heart of the episode about what happened about how he was attacked and bullied and ended up missing his father's funeral And his sister didn't realize it and thought he had just abandoned her. That was pretty heavy stuff but really cool at the same time we do. We do get an image of Jimi at the daily planet so that was cool. I'm just expanding more of genes world. Yeah during his. During his events in the mind palace he exhibits other powers like heat vision and he ended up flying at one point. All this power some of a certain somebody. It's kind of sad because this would be a perfect time for his best friend. WHO showed back up? And you know like Dude Bro. Like Bro Powers derived from a certain Tony in substance main. It's getting powers of. I don't know a Crypto News. Yeah it's interesting though the way they do it because the supposed trigger to his his PTSD symptoms. That the the Harun Al was basically exacerbating They believed needed to be lax in all of his traumatic events that he's had encountering lex over the years Ending with LEX Alexis being responsible for him being shot in the back. Because I wasn't as freaked out about it. And then when he found it was part of LEX that's really kicked into having his anxieties. While the interesting thing about that is is his sister was the one who kind of fed him the idea that his ptsd symptoms were were from LEX. That LEX was the trigger for this for this stuff but then you know come to find out in this episode episode. It's the regret he's had his entire life the pain from the memory that he blocked Dow in the problems problems it caused with his family with his sister. Cause she grew up thinking that he abandoned her at this point and you know he he literally repressed memory and created a new one. That's breath spew ups a bit harsh. Hart Jimmy No That's like processing Gamma Cod Brooks did at a really good job. Episode are really like him. Ask James and I wanNA use James More. Because he he's tries use. Changes is the evolution of the character. Much like we've talked about where this is the farthest lex luther. We've seen like the journey of the character. Right another reason I feel like the same with me. It's kind of like when I was when everybody call me Jimmy. When my teacher in sixth grade asked me I started going by James? He's a h gene. Right calm jeans now. It's like squeaky you know early puberty. Wash your the James Right. I mean stuff man crazy. You know my first name being Jonathan people they. Oh okay. Hey John I'm like no no no no don't assume bill by do not soon that use call me not go by John. Kay I'm not the revelator here pay any. You know a lot of names have nicknames and you know you want to a find out what that person's preferred name is is it. Their full name is the nickname. Do they go by John or Jonathan or even Johnny Tommy or James or Jim or Jimmy or Jimothy for these young fans out there I I know the name Jimothy. I've been called baton. I'm like no no my name's James Robber and people have called me. Jim Bob and I'm like shut up before I knock your teeth down your throat that I don't yeah I mean no no you brought to you by. I hate my name in the nickname podcast. You'll end up you'll end up like you end up dead by Pencil insole with either like the joker John Wick. Johnny Wake Yosi Vardon three. Yes I am. Yeah into into a pumped and exciting because my dad once ago. Am I tell us all the time and he never wants to go into more. He actually actually sat on gets back from his little short trip. Here I'm going to try to take my dad and goes yeah that's awesome loud. Probably end up going to see it by myself And then because I have to get the kids in here real soon probably probably not this weekend but next weekend I have to go take them to see detective. Pichu that's worth Solomon Wednesday kip settlements. Stay because I told my taking last week but because of being back in school and trying to finish up work and everything. We had a bipartisan. Fix washer dryer can funny in time. I'm on call this week this weekend. It is in off. Pay Week for me so you know I. I have taken the kids to the movies once and I got called like literally literally right when the movie started just. Luckily it wasn't a call that I had to go in for so I was like. Oh thank God because I was going to be like I have to. I believe the wife and kids here go to work and come back and waste the money from my ticket. We went to see cars three at the time but yeah I can't. I can't do that with just me and the kids. I can't leave kids there at the theater by themselves so you have to take them. When I'm not on call to the the bathroom stay here? Yeah like if I'm going to the bathroom that's one thing they're nine and ten years old say here. Don't move going to the bathroom. I'll be right back but being Jason. I have not talked a while. What kind of catching up to? But this episode was good. I think the main thing I got from this episode obviously was I really was not interested in the dreamer stuff as much because I felt the characters more being forced and I think in some ways I'm looking at shows in stories and just kind of expecting more had felt me and I feel like flip. Dreamer was like shorthand storytelling and just forcing like. Oh I'm superhero. Now I know about and how well you know this now on TV. And I'm trying to make a amaze like this is who I am. That's great harm. It's great doing me wrong. That would I don't feel that we've Turkey but at the same time. Maybe if I sit in washed all these episodes straight where I have always interruptions that. Maybe I'd be like oh I I feel fuel earned. Yeah that will. The television part was strong so the two strong points in this episode was was Jimmy Dealing with his past and then dreamer Showing up on TV. Not Quite. I mean you know the self empowerment angle of it was really good You know it it. Develop the the character because of of who she is and what she is but it was really good because it it helped to the empower aliens In in the belief that humans in aliens can peacefully coexist which was also strengthened in the fact that Lockwood son. John is kind of kind of having a change of heart in this episode. He finds out that his best friend is an alien and He he he starts to doubt what his what his dad is doing with. You know everything calling roaches attacking killing being agent liberty Having his agenda so because he reaches out to his his friend to To tell him that he's there form if he needs them and it's really powerful. I four so it's a strong moment for for the for the overall For for the overall discrimination storyline so the last big moment of this episode episode earlier in the episode Lockwood had rounded up aliens. Take a woman's child from her. The episode They took they took her husband her husband who was nothing but a working alien. Who did nothing wrong But they took him anyways and she's an alien but they left her with me so there's megawatts infused because I thought to her kid in left. The MOM parted hearted took her husband left the mother so anyway she is enraged changed and decides which would have like some more on this but basically the the episode Lockwood comes home his wife dead and that alienating running out so they killed been locked wife which I actually she would have liked to have seen that scene. Because I feel like that's such a huge chump like you took my husband and but I'm gonNA murder your wife. We don't know what happened to her husband.

"News talk. Last night. The timber wolves played beat the Los Angeles Clippers maybe lost in that a little bit to some folks is that Taj Gibson delayed start, and that's nothing unusual that people juggled the starting lineups. Of course, they want to get time cetera shoot the ball this. And that whatever the strategies they're not winning say, try different things. But I think the most interesting takeaway in spending time out with timber wolves today was this was number one for Ryan Saunders. This was the first time that he had to have a difficult conversation with the veteran player so to speak now that he has conversations before. But this was the first time that after shootaround you gotta come in and sit down and say. A making a move from taking playing time away from you, perhaps you got a different role on the team in the role is not going to be maybe. Certainly not as prestigious doesn't mean you're important part of the team. But he's got to go through that whole conversation in back and forth. With a veteran player that is one of the most difficult things Leon coach encounters because when you're an assistant coach you get to be a patent people. Tell them the great all that stuff. You earn encourage her in general, sometimes you're a sounding board you over the head coach wants you to go because he knows that. Sometimes he's going to be seen as the fill in the blank. So he wants assistant coaches to get to know the players being courage, though, you're the head coach you have to make decisions decision makers are different. It's a little bit. Like why they always the first lady's are always so popular more. So than the president because they don't have to make decisions we can simply like them. But when you have to make decisions, then you're gonna have sometimes you fall from grace, or at least you're going to be perceived as being difficult because you the decision maker Ryan Saunders made that decision last night. And he said that it went well in terms of his conversational, Taj Gibson, they joked about it. He gave me a hug and away. They went, but when you talk about a defined party being head coach in the NBA. You better be able to have the difficult conversations. Probably probably all bosses everywhere. Right. You better be able to have the difficult conversation. You better listen to that person? That's on the other side as well. Biki you can say, well, she's teaming dude his way. Yeah. Breath, Taj doesn't life? What years guess what happens in that locker? That's poison baby. That's poison the players to work because all of those if you respected people don't listen to wash the way that you're treated, so it's a very very tenuous. Very interesting. Very fragile a very important conversation that has handled right? And you know, time will tell Taj is in the final year of his contract. He doesn't want his value decrease. But not being started same time. He's gonna get plenty of minutes, and he's built profile in this league. But we talk a lot about Xs and os and who's the starter? And how they the difficult conversation. The difficult conversation is one of the defining parts of. Being head coach anywhere. Let's take a break. Come back. We'll talk Johnny Tommy basketball on the other side of the head coach of the Johnny. Stay with sports to the max on news talk, eight three. Oh C. L exports to the max. Hi,.

"Build some target field. US Bank stadium and many others across the country and. The name Mortenson, it's magical when it comes to stadium construction. And again like you said Billy rather based in golden valley. Minnesota United their headquarters is across the street allience is also on the same block. So you have that triangle of of success there? And boy, what Mortenson does is incredible. Because they do have their fingerprints on venues not only here across the nation. But all over the globe. Don't they they do. And and once you have a reputation and doing things and doing it, right? People want to use those type of companies and Mortenson has one of the top names in in all of sports when it comes to helping construct sporting venues. All right. We had Al McCoy on earlier in the show, the voice of the Phoenix Suns. He's done their game since seventy two he believes the Phoenix Suns are staying put. But something happened a couple of days ago, Billy where the owner Robert server had to come out and publicly make the announcement. Hey, the sons are not leaving Phoenix. This is because the city council delayed a vote for a two hundred thirty million dollar renovation to talking stick resort arena in downtown Phoenix. Is there any chance that you know, the sons the the anchor franchise in that market, professionally speaking any chance, they would move. I I highly doubt the Phoenix Suns would ever move, Eric. And I believe Adam silver is working behind the scenes the NBA Commissioner to make sure that doesn't happen. And and they'll get the funding they need it just takes more time. And that might have been a little bit of leverage in a little bit of putting putting pressure on the politicians to get this to steal done for Phoenix. But they need the sons well versed in a great brand inside the NBA for so many years. And I think they'll be staying there for a long long period of time. I really would be surprised to ever see the Phoenix Suns Aleve. The south west. Region. All right. Final thought Billy this news came out early last week. I I know it was really not a shocker to those of us who are close to Saint Thomas, but the Johnny Tommy game next season will be at allience field the future home of Minnesota United. I think this is a slam dunk. It makes a lot of success sense. And they'll probably have at least twenty thousand fans show up. Yeah. It's it's great. And I know that the original, you know, the inaugural game in this magnitude was played at target field, which was a huge success. But I know that Dr Bill McGuire who is the owner of Minnesota United when he built a franchise. I started it up. His vision was to have more than just a soccer team in in his new venue. Now, he wanted to do concerts, and he wanted to do some one off sporting events. And this makes the exact sense for Saint Thomas, and I don't think this is going to happen. Every other year. I think it's gonna be a couple of times every ten years you're going to see this robbery game being played in a what I call a neutral site, and it will sell out in seconds and be a great destination and a great weekend of activities for now. The city of Saint Paul what were the where the apps field is at. But also for Minnesota Minnesota United will will we'll be there as well. And their footprints will be all over this. And I think it just as a really good situation. And I'm glad they the game. We'll be a seat a few more fans, even though Saint Saint Thomas, which you know, very well doing their broadcast, Eric seats. I think around. Eight to ten thousand on a on a really good day a pack day, but they're going to double that and probably make some more revenue for the university. All right. Good stuff as always, Billy, rob. I'll let you hunker down get back to your man cave. I know you have a bunch of big screen TV's down. There stocked refrigerator for a Saturday night and a Sunday of sports coming up. All right. Well, happy holidays to you. And all your listeners out there. Eric and look forward to talking to you again real soon. All right. He's Billy Robertson currently Commissioner W C H A longtime career in marketing with the Anaheim angels. And ducks in the Minnesota wild and timber wolves. We call the segment the business of sports,.

"Back show midday middays MicMac sitting in I mentioned on Saturday Saint John's place Saint Thomas, obviously special game any year when both teams are unbeaten this late in the season. And you get the leaves turn and you're playing with the shadow John gilardi who just passed away, of course, Sunday morning as part of it. It gets even bigger and it can't get much bigger than it gets in these parts joining us right now Ryan Keating who play quarterback for the Janis insa basketball as well. Ryan, thanks for joining us today. Thanks, mike. Thanks for having me. Ryan Iverson your day. I haven't seen him back at the health club playing lately. What what are we as he is? He not playing shape yet. What are we give them their six weeks or what I think six weeks? We'll do it. What do you think? He's gotta keep getting on an exercise bike. That's right. We need them back on the court Ryan explained the Johnny Tommy game. When you play in it. It's huge. It's it's a blast. I mean, what what Saint John's has has obviously had a tradition for fifty plus years in Saint Thomas what they've done over the last ten years or so has started a match that. And and this game again undefeated teams, and you know, thousands of people show up for division three football game. So it's very unique and the players just love it. It's a it's an awesome time. Now, you are case in point for what can be done because you're not the biggest guy in the world. You're not a six foot five is drop back quarterback. And you went on and you played a couple of sports in college in worry about five nine five ten. Yeah. About that. Yes. I explain how how did you do it? Because there's a lot of kids out there that quit and give up because the size. You know, that can be an easy out for a lot of kids. Explain how you went about your business that got you to place where you could play a couple of sports in college. I think you're just you're just competitive, you know, the game you feel it out as a as a point guard in. As a quarterback, you're kind of an extension of that coach out on the floor. And I always was lucky to play with a lot of talented players. Need us kind of get them the ball at the right spot. Whether you're playing football or basketball and good things just happened to shape up. She didn't inside Jake copy. You're never gonna see it again. That's right. Every time the big guy in there. John galati. What was he liked to play for as a quarterback is awesome? You know, what he obviously what he did. And and accomplished up at ST John's is is just amazing. And you're never gonna anything like that. But the thing that he did is he empowered his players. I mean, you'd say, you know, the players know what to do we've executed we practiced all week and just go out there, and do it and really he would he would make subtle changes here and there, but once entrusted that you knew what you were doing, and you could even handle things out there. Let you do. He let you call your. I mean, what college program lets the player call their own place. I didn't even know that. Yeah. He I mean, he likes his players. So most quarterbacks up there called their own place. I mean, you know, run some in every once in a while. But literally ninety percent of the players were called by the quarterback once you've trusted that you can do it. And he would say, you know, like the quarterback has the feel of the game. He knows what plays he likes and doesn't like and and he trusted him. And that was huge. You got to have confidence in your players and he did in. So you also have to have a relationship with him that he urine their trust. What was that process? Like. You know, John created environment where it's not different than than good business leaders. You wanna go to a place? Do you wanna work at a place where your coach or your your president of the company or whatever steps the right direction and John stat that direction right away by by having an environment where people wanted to play in especially at the division three level. You know, a lot of these kids. They wanna go get a great education, but they wanna play sports, but they wanna have fun as well. They wanna enjoy themselves and the way John setup his program allowed his players to do that. And he built a family atmosphere. I mean, I have a father ally will play there. My brother played their in brother-in-law. My wife was a diver. You know, she grew up going to all the games, and she was a diver and diving was right next to his office and go going there and sit with John for twenty minutes before it should be late for practice. Just 'cause they kept shouting. I mean that's unique. You don't get that at most environments most most colleges. No, that's pretty cool. Yeah. Yeah. We all hear about the. Non-contact practices. Was that weird for you? Was that different? When you get there. Well from yes. And no I was a quarterback. So I got it. Yeah. Going to let him get conduct you anyway. Right. You put their sure that's right. But I will say it was awesome. I mean, when we made our national championship running three by the time, you're playing in that in the final four, you know, what is it? Fifteen twenty thirty degrees out max he would practice for thirty five minutes. And and say, okay, we're good. We're out of here. So you know, he would no contact. No hidden, just execute. If it's too hot. If it was raining, you know, so you that's what kids want to do it. So he attracted the guys that that, you know, wanted to play at a high level, but they wanted to enjoy their college experience, and it was just part of the program a plan up there. So people would say, well, how can you get good? If you don't refine in repetition, and all those things how do you do that? How do you marry the two or you got to be ready on game day? If you only Braxton thirty five minutes. Well, the thing that I noticed most about what John would say they take the necessary things out, so whatever's not working whenever you don't need take it out. And this case, it'd be the calisthenics it'd be the warm up. It'd be the bull in the ring thing he had a quote kind of a famous court that he said is one of his best players was was the best player MAC. But he was the worst bowl in the ring player because he got hurt in Boston for the year known hit eliminate the things that didn't matter. And and he also would say, hey this level if you can't tackle go play different sports. You know, I don't know how to tackle by now. Yeah. Who put you into a position where you're gonna make the tackle. Now. It's up to you. Yup. He put his players who just execute. You. Just literally scrimmage the whole time not tackling not contact, but you'd run against the defense, and you'd see what would work and what one working it's been ninety percent of your time executing. So that when the game came around you knew what you were going to do. What's funny about that? Ryan is that's the direction now that everybody's gone right to eliminate concussions and injuries. Everybody's going to that in their fight in that, you know, what these kids love football. They'll figure it out to play on Friday night or Saturday afternoon. It's totally true. And then the other thing that John did is he was always ahead of his time. I mean, just in talking Xs and os. He ran when I was a senior we ran like five different types of offenses, you'd run the option, you're you're you're spread it out at five receivers you have single. I mean, you had so many different sets that he did that he had kind of accumulated over the years, and it sets work, and he just he just brought obviously the right players in. But his system was just tough to be. So would he be in the middle of that in practice and explained instructing or he delegate a lot of that? He was in the middle. He was right there. Yeah. He and his son. Jim ran the offense for many years, and but John was always right there. And he was in the mix the whole time. But again, it was just kind of running those plays executing taking things out there weren't working putting the right stuff in and by Saturday. Your players knew what they were gonna do. I don't picture him saying, hey, Ryan watched the safety on this play. If he comes up we're going to this check down to this. Did he do a lot of that? He did. And he didn't he I think Jim took over a lot of those duties by the time, I got there. So I think probably before Jim. Kind of took over those rains. But, but John, you know, he would be there. He'd be involved. And and anyone who said he wasn't involved up to the end probably wasn't around. Yeah. Yeah. Because he loved to look at videotape. He looked at a ton of videotape now by the time. I was there. He would come to we had Monday films and come and do a stand up routine. You know that he's known for and then he'd bail. He he said, I can't do this anymore. I'm going to let Jim in the offense of coaches do this. But he watched a ton of film behind the scenes to to kind of get us prepare during the week. Now, you're playing all the time. So obviously it was easy for you to be engaged. How do you keep the kid engaged at seventh or eighth of the depth chart here because they keep the number so high. You know, I think people want to be a part of it. You know, I what amazes me is I work for my family's company. It's advanced imaging solutions, and I'm out on sales calls all the time. And not a week goes by that someone either didn't play for John went to Saint John's no Zoe is asked about him somehow so into circle back to that people. Just you know, the players that they knew they will probably weren't gonna play a ton. But they wanted to be involved and again practice with so much fun. It was like backyard football out there. So even the guys that go. Hey, I'm never going to play in the game. They get a scrimmage five days a week and just have fun plans football and have a good college setting. You know, if you're not on the first team secretary, they might be off different field during their own scrimmage. They are. Yup. Yup. They're going. I don't know how they run it now. But they they keep all these guys active and to keep them going. And then at home games, you know, we were fortunate enough to sometimes be up by thirty forty fifty points by half, and you could get the rest of the kids in and they gotta have a blast. And that's pretty interesting. So they everybody that comes out is not like you just standing around watching play polish. No, no. He gets everyone involved. I mean, there are some more than others, of course. Because when you have two hundred players, it's tough, even when you have a couple of fields to do everything. But I think you'd say that most every player that went through there. Well, the first thing is most every teammate that I ever had were good people. So John got good people to come to school there. But they also were heavily involved in somewhere other with the program. Interesting. Interesting. How that builds you go back to a lot of games we go back this Saturday. Yep. So I'll go back to as many as I can I have three young kids. So, you know, we have their activities Saint Thomas one. And then we're going to go up the next week. And and they have an alumni apartment. You can stay up there. And we're gonna take mea Thursday Friday and do that. And but so I'd probably try to get two to three or four games a year. If I can let's kind of fun. The blast. It's fun. I can't believe it's been fifteen years. So time flies by fifteen years since I played, but you know, the more things change the more stay the same up there. You know, his lasting impression to you would be what if you were to sum it up in a paragraph. Well, with John I would say he he created an environment that was so unorthodox and so different from what was happening especially back in the fifties. Sixties seventies and football that like you said earlier a lot of that stuff is is is what coaches are preaching these days..

"Be fair. It wasn't only the crowd at the Lincoln Philly maxi a lot of Vikings fans. Go now, wait a minute. I mean you look for every break in a game. But my goodness. Michael bennett. It was like he was cradling Kirk cousins. They the break against Green Bay. So when you think about that was a game changer too. Because the Vikings out of certainly touchdown range settle for a field goal. So that was huge. And it was huge when they got the same. Call interception against Matthews a few weeks ago and Green Bay. So sometimes you always look at the things that went against you. But then Matthews where huge breaks in in the Vikings favor. They could lost both those games just on that play. And here we go the NFL every week. We got a couple of places like that the benefit of the Vikings so far, but the reason the Vikings stance get upset is they understand the shoe could be on the other foot anytime, and everybody's playing by these rules that no one understands right now. Well, you know, I understand that change had to come because you take a look at brain trauma, and what people used to wear it. I think of another Viking great from the early seventies. Lonnie Warwick who talked about actually bragged about you know, I remember book the NFL's toughest players in lady was saying when I came into the league, I was six feet tall with all the hitting. I'm now like. I five eleven five ten and a half and at that point in time. And I guess what we call the flower of youth. He was joking about the impact. But as we know it had serious consequences down the road. So we get the contact part. But by the same token, maxi wh what is the league wanna do? Do. They want to go to the like Pro Bowl rules, which kind of like flag football wearing uniforms. I mean is that where we're headed? I hate to say this. But the league knows exactly what you're doing from the standpoint that they're they're going to call all these they know they're gonna get this tremendous uproar disbelief fans et cetera. And but but every week players are getting a little more educated every week. They're taking fewer steps before they level someone every week you see defensive backs not leaving with your head quite as much. So I think it's confusing as it is as difficult as unfair as it is many weeks. I think the league is getting what they want out of this. They know they can't change getting innings hitting. But they're getting less lead with helmet kind of stuff in. It's always hard to measure that because you know, you don't say, oh, boy that guy just about took his head off pretty lead up and give them a blue ribbon. You only she the place where they get penalized. But I think the league probably overall is going. This is a great growth for us. Guys are now starting to understand and what they wanna do is at the end of the year. Be able to present some fact-based presentation and say look at this many fewer injuries. This many fewer concussions. Based on our new rule changes. That's what the ultimate goal for them. Because right now, they really don't have a way to quantify. Now. I gotta tell ya. I was a little skeptical. Not the rule changes here in the pro game. But a couple of years ago in college football for purposes of full disclosure, Lou Holtz recruited me as right tackle. I ended up left out at NC state, which tells you what kind of fossilized football guy. I am. But you know, initially when wait a minute getting hit as part of the game. But we've seen the change in college not leading helmet to helmet not targeting and that made me a believer. You telling me Magsi that we're going to as as the players adjust fans are going to adjust to this new standard in the National Football League. I don't know just I think what they'll do is try to sell them on the fact that us at the end of a year two years that they've got fewer concussions, and then they're gonna try to sell that to the moms and dads that have kids that are eight nine years old. On the fence about playing football growing the game. Because it's not just as you know, it's not just about getting kissed. A participant football said if you participated a young level, you're probably going to turn into a football fan. Even though you might not even play into high school or beyond. Now. Once you get a taste of it. At least you become a fan. So I think that's their alternate goal in. I don't know where this goes from here. How you go about. But I do think you'll see less particularly that extra step. They take with a level of quarterback. I think that that will go away. I in the Cornerbacks lead with their helmets will be the second thing that we should go. You know, the funny thing is what we're saying goodbye to junk Lardy legendary coach at Saint John's today passed away yesterday ninety one for all those years this four national championships, and they never get during practice, and they won national championships, accomplice championships and everything else that he was a big believer that you don't need to get during the week to be able to hit on Saturdays. And obviously case in point. There is legendary the name a trophy after him. So. It's almost amazing that today's we talked about that that what goes around comes around what he thought it was the way it should be many years ago that no one else would follow him on is now becoming the standard. And I'll have a bit more on John gilardi a bit later before. I let you go. Tell me maxi. What's in store later today? You're on WCTC radio with you. Well, along those lines Gary flashing coach yet. Essay John's is gonna join us coaches Johnny Tommy week as well this week and. Polk appointed AMA cedar in year this year is no exception. They're both unbeaten Harrison Smith and Jeff diamond I five thirty to sixty minutes grill. And then I don't know if you've ever listened to that the live outdoor show it on the podcast or anything else. But ranchera is gonna join us. And this is a big week for Ron. If you get you can get him onto teasers a little bit before the end of your show, but he got a duck last week. And so we're three weeks into the season. They finally was able to get one playing by at least, I guess two people shot he kind of claimed it. The segment of your show because it's a big week for. An investigation was the duck hit by ammo. Or did he die of a heart attack in the shock? There's lots of speculation. Mike max, thanks so much. We'll hear you later.

"To have you back. My friend Paul doesn't sound very enthusiastic the cabin. He's like three sheets to the wind. He's got a couple of drinks. He likes beer, by the way. He likes beer beer, spare Paul expert. I drink beer. You do. I'm quoting you. I have started drinking more beer recently. Like this like, I haven't had been a wine guy. And then I can't remember what else somewhere and had a couple of beers. And I woke up the morning the next day, and I didn't feel horrible. Like if I have a couple of glasses of wine, sometimes they'll just feel like a train wreck. And I realized maybe I should get off the wine even though I enjoyed drinking wine. Why did we just can't recover likely Houston? Brutal. Brutal. Some local stories that are hitting today. We're hearing about it in our who's. But these two Saint Paul police officers will not be charged. In fact, Paul excuse me Franco's about this because you know, the officer was found guilty in the Liquan McDonald's, Chicago, right Chicago thing, but many of us here have been watching that case, it was an unarmed teenager walking in the streets years ago took a year to release the tapes out today, the officer was found guilty of the murder of the Kwan McDonald in Chicago's actually huge deal. That's national news today for sure so it's interesting that this, of course, this story, and we all saw this tape. Oh, this tape was was sad to watch. When it came out talked about it when you come on. Yeah. Yeah. This is what this was a two officers. Vincent Adams was one match as the other. They get a call one call by gunfire. And then you see him they have their flashlights. And then you can hear guy on the port Saint I will kill you. And then Billy Hughes comes out. He's forty three years old looks like he has a gun in his hand. They tell him to raise his hands. And he does. Does and they shoot himself. This was the one that raise a lot of concern. Because if you remember, right? The the the mayor Melvin Carter and the police chief jumped in right away. And that video was out. I wanna say I wanna say within about ten days sores out really really quickly, and they were really transparent about it. And today, the county attorney said that it was all reasonable use of force given the circumstances about based on what he said in the fact, they went there, and they had a gun and all those other things. So no charges and Frank were there are there any protests about this? Is there anything being done publicly? No, I'll check. A lot of ways we find out if people do a lot of stuff on Facebook about that kind of stuff. His family said he had some issues before too. And then actually when they did the press conference. If you remember, right. Todd axel the police chief met with the family time, the family give the police officers some cards and had. I wanted to express some thoughts to them. So I mean, it was much more civil than any of the police involved shootings that we've seen of late, especially the ones in Minneapolis. So. Sad deal guy loses his life. Police are not gonna be charged county attorney look through it all and you know, again, I think we talked about this years ago. You have the cameras, and it makes life a lot simpler for everybody. And it seems like this was handled. Well, you know, the video came out quickly communication with the family was was was frequent. Yeah. So it seems like this is a good maybe textbook. God forbid, we don't want it to ever happen again. But if it does well, it's a better template for running this play. If you have to I think than than some of the other ways to do it, certainly the one in Chicago. I mean that thing was a disaster. And they didn't release that video for a year. They released with our huge protests, the superintendent of police there, they all come a chief superintendent immediately got fired a new one comes in. And now today the trial, and and he testified on his own behalf. The police officer in Chicago. But yeah, he said to prison guilty guilty today unless they appeal it, but we'll see. Yes, sir. I was topping off my beard. Did did you already talk about the the microdosing dollars? Are you guys familiar with this term microdosing? This is really interesting. So this is a trend right now in Silicon Valley, we talked to a Minnesota doctor, and he is warning or she is warning against the dangers of microdosing. So what microdosing as a means taking like a tiny fraction of a serious drug to maybe like boost your creativity or keep you awake at work. If I'm talking about things like small like LSD. Oh, wow. Or or ecstasy legal drug for mushrooms. Yeah. So the people that are doing it say gives them a boost and says, it makes them more competitive, and it's happening again like in Silicon Valley in the tech world. And you know, a lot of these things and spread to the to the midwest. And there's actually a global study going on online to see if there's really something behind this where instead of taking a full head of acid, you just take a little bit. And that's why they call the micro dose, and all of a sudden, you feel more creative more alive, more, whatever. And we spoke to addiction doctor here. Her name is John laser at healthcare. And she's like, this is absolutely not safe. There's no such thing as a safe throat dose of an illegal drug like that. So it's interesting. You mentioned the beer because that's what I thought of Paul. It's like, you know, hey, I'm going to have a beer lunch, and I'll come back, and boy, I'm gonna feel really good from maybe one to two. But then I think a nap right from three to four. But anyway, it's you know, there's so many designer drugs and synthetic drugs out there. The doctor says there's way too much room for air even on a small dose. You just don't know what you're doing. She said you're better off just going for a walk at lunch or or doing regular diet and exercise can make you healthier. I am so naive where people getting LSD and mushrooms jerk. Nerdy at your kids high school. Oh, okay. Well, they're dark web jor the dark web. Really, I'm such a goody goody. I I don't know about any of that. I really I I don't I'm sure LSD would open up a whole brand new world. But I wouldn't even know where to go find it. I heard of Soriano if this was true, but I back in the eighties that there was a a guy a football player that would take a little bit acid on game day. Yeah. Right. Giga crazy, really? Yeah. Considering helped my buddies played with them in. But you know, I mean, can you imagine you're on a field traffic attack on your trip in? But you know, maybe some people get really energized by it. But anyway, this show would be a whole lot better. Yeah. Well, you know, at least the planning meeting, maybe microdosing, then you sit down to what we're gonna talk about today, you come up with some really interest me different show. Really would be a good show. I think it's good to hear your voice. Our and have a great week calcium doing a college. We saw I saw him this afternoon. Very interesting Speaker Dennis McDonough super bright guy, he was the chief of staff or President Obama. We went to Stillwater high school, and then he went to Saint John's university. And there are some really great jokes about why Johnny was doing the keynote address at Saint Thomas because there's that great Johnny Tommy rivalries, of course. But he he was really interesting. He he spoke about the about artificial intelligence and the future of education about Sam, not the speaker. And anyway, so Sam didn't come with us to the talk because meal, you got the tickets, then Sam said I have class. But then I saw Sam the student union ran up to a bunch of front of his friends game. A big hug he had class my radio air quotes. So that was embarrassing. Thank you, sir. Get off your butt come up here. And help me take my doc out. I love to you should've told me yesterday so much better than doing this. We sat around and had a really good time. We could have microdosing few beers. And to our cutoff keep macro dozing. Frank great to hear from you say hi to everybody. I'm great weekend. Thank you. It's four twenty. And we're.

"Twenty nine was a final score yesterday in a game that had pretty much everything and from a pure entertainment side of it all because many of us like myself bleed bleed purple, but it was really fun to watch. I gotta say there was all sorts of things birdie cars guy to watch a lot of football. He watched it as an official even officiate intercourse Super Bowls as well. And of course, a great athlete, by the way, Bernie, if you don't mind me mentioned this at Saint John's for coach John Gagliardi, correct flavor. Jonah fact, I'm going up next weekend for homecoming. And there a kind of a testimonial for dealing with all of us all the football players if I'm not mistaken Bernie having done my research on your number of games when I come up there for the Johnny Tommy game as you played a lot of positions for him. Well, I did back in those days, though, we didn't have love what they call platoon football. Once you got on a field. You seem to stay. There was on offense. First of all, I started as a safety when I was a sophomore. And then my move the quarterback. I don't halfway through the year, man. In my junior year. A new guy came in the name of Jim glow. Aca played quarterback, and they moved me to half back. And then I played this still on the defensive side of the ball. It was in the second return kicks and punts. So yeah, you never hardly ever left the field back, then you didn't have quite as many coaches as you have to deal with now. I think we had to. And no weight room, probably. Will Bernie you've seen the changes from that point as a player. But certainly as an official in a highly admired one two when did it happen for you? When did you get out of you? Because I know you're doing a lot of college football high school football. And all of a sudden, you're in the NFL how did that happen? Well, it kind of a stepping stone. When I got out of college. I started I looked I looked at the whole picture at that time was probably pretty difficult to get into the NFL coming from small schools, and I remember going to the very first flaking game when they played the Chicago Bears. I was a senior in college at the time. So I went on and watch that game watch the officials come out, and I said, maybe that's the route guy should take. And from that point on. I started officiating high school level did that for I don't know four years or so then move them to the division three level at that time was mostly around here. And I was there for four or five years. I don't recall exactly, then I moved into the division two level which at that time of North Dakota, North Dakota state, South Dakota, South Dakota, St Louis mankato's, and so on and then years later, I moved into the big ten for four years and then into the NFL so that was kind of a stepping stone. Twenty one years in the college ranks before I got to the NFL eventually too few Super Bowl. As well. Outlaw course, I want to ask you about a couple of things, and I don't know if you saw the game yesterday we had one where Kendra has called for roughing the passion the second quarter that was highly questionable. Not claiming after us today is not happy because he was called for I want to get your thoughts on this. This new rule this new helmet rule. Well, tell you I have worked. I did watch that game as a matter of fact and in my day, which wasn't that long ago. We did have a rule at that time that you can't put your full body weight on a quarterback. And that's what they called Matthews for. But I think that one was little suspect Hendrix. It's a matter of interpretation on that how much is your full body weight. Usually when I used to see those plays. I'd wait until they kind of grabbed ahold of plopped all three hundred pounds on them. But this is a little bit different. I think they're calling him a little bit tighter. As for the helmet rule. That's that actually was around two in the day. And may you never could lead with the crown of your helmet. Does they used to say back then? But now they've refined a little bit. And I think there's more of an emphasis on player safety for these quarterbacks because they are vulnerable when they're in a passing imagine winding up throw the football, and all you can see as a defensive guy charging him. And I used to watch a lot of that stuff is all you can see is the target is right in the middle of their body and back and back in the day, which is still true today. You cannot hit the quarterback below the waist other gliders knees. So the target date back. Now is from the waist up to the neck, basically. And so that's what they're trying to get across these players to try to take the head out of the play back in my day. When I was playing we were taught that that you had to keep your head up and try to put the body your shoulder onto the body of whomever is that you were tackling. So I think it's just a matter of a point of emphasis more than rule changes. You know, I thought the one that would get all the controversy. This year was at new catch rule that they changed. Oh, yeah. Definition of a catcher talking. Well, tell you there are so many times they've changed that one time. I can recall during the course of the year, they changed the definition. But catch four times. Wow. And used to be a lot easier. Oh, we used to say as if he catches the football. And he does something common to the game. Other words stakes three steps. What have you then? It's a catch anything other than that. It's incomplete, and it was a lot easier. But now with the business of instant replay. I mean, they flow this stuff down to frame by frame by frame by your mnay can't pick up that that that's almost impossible. But if they would've left it up to the officials and. Tuck Houston replay out other. You wouldn't see so much controversy as you're seeing today. Yeah, you're right. And then do you think in this this ruled or we're talking about hitting the quarterback? Why should that be able to be reviewed you think? Or would that matter? I think they're going to have to take a look at that. Because they're like yesterday, for example Matthews. In my way of thinking. There was no way that was a fall they're asking defendant guys were coming in their one hundred miles an hour tackle a quarterback and just roll with them. All sometimes, you know, you're coming off these corners. It's almost impossible to roll with them. So you just try to put a shoulder on him and bring him to the ground. That's kind of what Matthews did. Yes. If he didn't look to me like he put his full body weight on top of the guy. In fact, most of it was to the side. So I can understand his frustration on that part in this question is simply as well. What are we supposed to do? How are we supposed to tackle these guys? That's I think they're going to have to take a look at that. And maybe get a little bit more. Oh, flexible with that type of situation because it is getting to a point now where you might as well say you can't touch the quarterback. And the irony that Bernie's all started probably because of Matthew's quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head bar head on them last year. I love having you on love talking to you. I appreciate your time. But I'm going to be bugging you some more through the season. If you don't mind not a problem. I'm ready anytime sale automatically formula. He always calls me. I'll do that. If you say a lotta Maggie. I'll say a lotta maxi that's the deal. All right. Thank you Bernie Bernie coup car former football official. And of course, he hit the top Susan when he's out there doing Super Bowls. Hey, we got an update coming here in about forty five seconds house traffic. Well, we have an accident on thirty five W northbound north of Lexington avenue, and we're still watching this rollover crash blocking two lanes of thirty five W southbound and cliff road. Traffic's backed up in Rogers due to the accident on the left shoulder. Ninety four eastbound east of two.
