James Harden Reportedly Would Ask Houston Rockets for Off Days, Fly to Vegas to Party

"About the culture in Houston and hardens legendary commitment of partying and giving out gifts of a Prada bag stuffed with honey buns, and suddenly everybody was going in on James Harden. Everybody was taking a run at James Harden like I was wanting to talk about the fact that this guy can put up amazing numbers on the floor fly to Vegas do its thing. Get his freak on or do whatever he does in Vegas, then come right back and put up more incredible numbers on the floor the very next night, but not you. Dopes. Nope. All you dopes wanted to do was fat Shame one of the country's finest athletes. I had to wade through all sorts of tweets. Any emails about how he's actually wrapping Johnny Rockets? Not the Houston Rockets, and this idea that he's somehow is able to store steak. Within his own beard so we can snack on it between plays. You know how stupid and idiotic you sound when you say things like that. Do you even understand how that might work? How does he keep the stake in his beard? With the string with glue is the beef somehow. Pasted in there with Twizzlers so we can have a sweet dessert Also in the second half, and by the way, if you really was doing that, don't you think people would know? Wouldn't we notice? Don't you think somebody would have pointed out the fact that James Harden, one of the greatest scores in NBA history is just stacking and mowing? Revise? On the floor in between plays. I mean, if you were I think I would notice. So

"Both Johnny Rockets restaurant chain and he didn't during the pandemic. Let's welcome now. Fat brown CEO Andy Wiederhorn, Andy. Congratulations, very A bold and brave decision to make. I assume you decided that it was a good one to make, because people would be needing to find food that happened to, you know, go to a grocery store chains that might be out of what they needed. Is that what caused you to buy the Johnny Rockets restaurant train? Great here. Yes, You know, we've been looking to buy the spent for several years. It hasn't just been an impulse purchase for us. We inquired about finding around a few years ago. They weren't ready to sell it. And finally they put it on the market at the beginning of the year before the pandemic, So we started the process then and then everything got shut down, of course, and we've got two kept discussions going on, and I figured out a clear path to get to the finish line. But this brand new rocket is a is a great brand. It's iconic it. It's well known around the world. It fits in our portfolio of other burger brands with it seemed seemed designed complements the other brands we have, so it's really good. Part of the Johnny Rockets. Appeal, though, is the whole diner atmosphere, right? The red seats and pulling up and the ordering, you know, feeling like you're in a sixties joint. What happens when people don't get that when they really just get the food? Well, so you know, it is always about the food, but no one wants to go to a restaurant. You know, like the food. Johnny Rockets has great food. That's not that's not an issue of milk shakes fries. You know the atmosphere's fun. And look, you know, Covert 19 crisis is really crisis, but it's a short term prices. This will be over in, however long the six months 12 months, whatever it will be over. People will return to some normalcy in their lives. Johnny Rockets has delivery into go, so they're they're surviving on that today, to the extent that they don't have outdoor dining rooms or whatever the particular state or country is allowing right now. But, you know, I don't really think that this is a long term crisis. It is very Devastating to the short term to restaurant operators that everyone will get through this and, you know live to fight another day. How are you differentiating yourself with other fast restaurant chains, So we've seen Chipotle do well during this. For example, McDonald's has been doing pretty well on obviously slightly different food, but at the same time, you know, I'm sure you appeal to a similar demographic. So how do you get that business and and steal that market share while you can. Yeah, You bet. So our the brand stopper Garden Elevation burger are two other burger vans and elevation burgers and Australian eats grass fed organic burger chains that differentiates it right. There was like french fries fried in olive oil. On tap burger, iconic urban brand shakes fries all kinds of ingredients on totally different experience. This custom made right in front of you, one by one in order everything separately. Rockets has pre designed Burgers where you could pick the different different items off the menu, and it stands out really, for the shakes the fries and the burgers that are just so I identified with In the 19 fifties and the diner concept, so it's really from a delivery and to go perspective. We were always around 35% delivery and to go now that shot up to more than 70% on all the delivery platforms, so it's very easy to stay in the game. With delivery to go. We're also going to introduce plant based proteins to Johnny Rockets. They haven't haven't embraced that. They've had a black bean burger but not impossible burner. We sold a million possible burgers last year tappers alone, So I think that would be a great alternative to introduce. Also, like Vegan milkshake, vegan cheese just so you can appeal to everyone. Yeah, absolutely. So your franchisees. How are they doing? Have they've been able to, you know, keep up payments. Are you taking care of them? How is it all working? Well, so we view the franchisees are customer right cause that's what pays us a royalty. It's not really the customer eating the burger franchises. So that's a very important question. Our entire focus was to pivot on the Survival of the franchise fee. We have to coach them into getting the PPP bones which were extremely helpful, and we need another round of those to coach them and negotiate with their landlords could help him get better terms from the food suppliers. To get tpp and tp the massing thermometers and clubs and things like that in all the restaurants and change our advertising to market that to go on delivery right now, So we've done that, and we've seen our burger brands are operated in the 75 to 80% of normal range right now, and that's with a lot of dining rooms. Still closed so they don't really well but you know, they really, really need another round of epi. Yeah. I mean, do you have a percentage of off restaurants that you think we'll close? Some, You know, potentially fantasies. And are you lowering the I suppose royalty fees that you're charging them. So first of all of that out of our 375 restaurants before Johnny Rockets with John Ross will be 700. We lost about 15 restaurants over that over the last six months, and not a very big percentage. Most of the restaurant operators have hung in there and have the Main power with people needed to do that again. I can't tell you enough how helpful that was, But I think you know that from a royalty perspective if the restaurant's cell less than we get Halo, so it's proportionate in terms of lower in the world that happens automatically. You know, our focus right now is just get them through that and get the operator's through the winter because a lot of the outdoor dining right is going to be over here in a couple of months, Right, Tio different temperature for sure have tense and heaters and things like that ordered right now. Don't wait till October to order those things. And let's hope we don't get the diamonds back, open everywhere, even in a even a moderate exactly and get 60 sixes and a grilled cheese and our Philly stakes are thanks to you, Fat bronze CEO Andy Wiederhorn on all of that. Now let's get to our 99 1 Studios in Washington D. C.

"Typical listener experience. Listen entire boys, catalogue, close. He was fine. You can't laugh. So he chose listen to our pod. Right, right. All right. Good choices or this or that book about Ted Bundy. So. Ester, have you ever been to state where he couldn't eat solid food for a stretch? Yeah. I think when I had my wisdom teeth, ow. Wow, same here was teeth. What did you guys in doing? Because I don't think I had my wisdom teeth out, but my recovery was not. That is pretty pretty quick. MAC and cheese. I had some mashed potatoes is not a liquid. It was. It was still like soft enough that it just rate the MAC and cheese was like the one that I like could like to a couple of times and swallow it down. Okay. And I will do some frappes. From the place that was once Brigham. So it's very specific, right? No, other time have I have I not have been able to have solids. Yeah, clearly. Esters. What was your experience like? I don't remember at all what I. I do remember when I had my wisdom teeth out my parents, jolted me awake, and I was really out of it and they're like, we're going to the cemetery today and just remember them like dragging me to the cemetery while was half aware of my surroundings really confusing. I don't know because they just kind of they just do their own thing. And I was just like a kid that we had to go along with it. But when you say what's what liquids are non-salted you? I would love to just go like pudding. I think chocolate pudding. Choice on. Yeah, you know, jello pudding, right? Anything like that. I'm wonder if he means like specific smoothie smoothie place or something like that. Because they do so many, you mentioned smoothies and his Email. And yeah, you can do so many like I, there's, there's so many very insipid like vegetables and stuff and smoothies. Now, I feel like you can get a bunch of bunch of mileage out of just trying different smoothies with different combos of of produce and yogurt soup, of course. But I don't like any specific. I just wonder because I feel like if I had like to Boston market, actually a couple of times that's fun. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I think there's, I think you could do something like mashed potatoes. I think that's good because you have a little bit substantial. I worry with soups because especially cream base soup, and that's like all I meeting, I feel like that's like, I'm just going to be in a bad state. Rumblings wise. I do remember this. I want to an Irish bar with Mike three days after I had my wisdom teeth thing, and I was drinking bud lights, and I remember my my where my wisdom teeth. It started bleeding again into my mom. She's Christ soon have been drinking. You're getting on me for bleeding. Fucking mouth. Fucking living room. But yeah, if you have any any Rex for someone who's recovering from any sort of oral surgery and his limited from what they can eat, hashtag liquid foods. On the knows I don't know what? Yeah. Fuck even though. Hey, sometimes you gotta use that spoon a little bit, but the Oreo Oreo cookie, all my poor. Treat yourself Oreo. Cookie, shake from Johnny rockets them, double blend it though. "Oh boy, that's a little. That's a real teaser. Hey, you got these bottle opener by chance. On keychain, wow, you're fucking party animal. Those from like Bruce song. Target while I'm so these are what we have here. Mitch, these are use on God, California raspberry Coca-Cola's. Oh, that's a lot we're talking about. We're talking about neighbors shots. And. Use on. Got us. He got us these cokes that have California raspberry flavors in there. One thing that I like about this already is it comes in the classic coke bottle glass bottle and that that's that's really nice real limited edition on you on some. Is there a Cup or something. All right. He's not. You got it. What did you say these for sure, limited edition. I don't know. I mean, I assume so maybe this will come, maybe if this is a sense Asian, this'll be this whole come stay stick around there in the glass bottles that look really nice, their nice and cold. Good. Let's give him a drink, Nick drank or staying a little swig. I tell you it's got that. It's got that coca that coke biz which I like this is made with cane sugar, so they're going out of their way to present to, you know, not to use the the corn share up. Surprising. Verdict on this one. I think it might be fucking stank, Nick. I don't taste the raspberry. You do taste very subtle. I taste like sort of a general sort of berry pastiche. I don't taste like any sort of specific raspberry. I don't like it. If I'm drinking coke, I would much rather have a straight up coke. I love Gocha cola. It's yeah. The best rink somewhat has a sour addition to it. I think I think that what is this is coming across as a little bit like a carbonated medicine drink Emma. What do you think you have over there? Really settle Asbury? Yeah. Flavor cook, right? You want you want to be a little bit more forward and as opposed to the cherry coke, we got at the or a couple of us got over at the Johnny rockets. I mean, this is just it's just not forward enough. This weird maybe instead of California raspberry for it was Quincy Quincy wral come on. If it was a Quincy raspberry, you would love it. You would keep this fucking perfect drink. I'd be fair. I live in California. Now you have an east coast bias you're wearing on your head. Coach, you're wearing a patriots at as we speak, it's better coast. It's not a better coast. West coast is best coast. Are you guys? Ok. Yes as okay, drinking caffeine. This close to bed time to be up all fucking wired already. This is. I mean, I do. I don't have caffeine after three pm generally. And I drink a third of this bottle and I'm fucking done. Yeah, this is where we kid and this is a stay just fucking. Bummer of a variant. And yeah, like you said that the measuring these things always comes down to, would you rather have the original one hundred percent rather glass bottle coke with cane sugar over this California raspberry? Is it terrible? It's terrible. It's not that good. Yeah, it's it's very disappointed right. Is the issue. I always appreciate the novelty of like a new flavor though. That's, yeah, I liked them taking a shot. Why not take a shot, take more shots and doing it and kind of a, you know, they're like, okay, we'll we'll try to have more like an artisan soda like Joan soda, mouse. I like that that Coca-Cola, given that a shot. But I think this version just doesn't quite work is thanks all around Emma, we agreement. Yeah, no, no, no one's on board with this one. Sorry. Dennis tabbies to us have it. You had a bad recommendation. I'm hey, I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was from. I'm sorry. It's just not my preference. No, it's fine. Oh, yeah. On. All right. I like you on Twitter. Sorry. It was fine. It wasn't thing worth trying. It was a fun experience, but he had a bedrick, hey, just like a restaurant by your feedback. Let's the bag. This week's emails from Victor Valenzuela Victor rights. I recently had to get a very minor surgery in my throat before learning about the whole procedure. I just assumed it wouldn't be able to eat normally for at least a few days..

"Double cheeseburger situation. Weird taste to it like the meat as you're saying, tasted like Meatloaf. That was a huge strike for me like, that's not what I want when I'm craving burger to tater tots cold. That was the problem. Onion rings are pretty good chili fries, kind of a mess. If we're. Being honest with ourselves, the Meg burger I thought was the best thing they had, but that's limited items. How much we can give for that cherry. Coke was nice. Shake at the end was fantastic, but they didn't present it right. They've got a real problem there. Man, like, aesthetically, they're supposed to be a fifties diner. They should go for it and another shying away from it. I'm sure you've talked about this, but it's a huge problem. Hard pressed to go higher than two and a half. Four, wow. Lower than that. Wow. Also I'll say two and a half. Four. That's all I got. By vacation land by John Hodgman available in paperback. You know what, Dave. Dave's are viewed just made me inspire me. I'm moving down to three, four, wow. Yeah. I mean, compelling arguments, and I agree with them. I think it should be. Just the fact that that orientate was so damn, good, listen, hey, if you're on him as meal puck and Johnny rocket. Greece pieces. You're lucky that fucking Orioles. Shake saved your ass or you in the rest of the rockets would have been cut. Good. I feel like people could just not listen to this episode and only listen to Dave's one minute review. Right? I mean, that's that's the secret of this podcast. It's it's ninety seconds of information. Out in two hours to edit on what you just said. That's hustle. You see. I'll also try to go quickly. Everyone's made great points about the the aesthetic, the removal of the fifties steam just indefensible and removed its identity. That alone accounts for a full fork deduction because that was like that was a big part of the Jani rackets experience. I'm gonna go there. I'm gonna feel like I'm in another time and it's just not there anymore. At some point in the past decade, they removed pie from the menu, which for me is a big strike because that was their standout dessert apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese on it. If you like that that crazy variant which I did or you'd get Alamo, they had some good pies there. They don't have them anymore. They still have the shakes, though. The shakes are outstanding desserts. I understand the instinct to simplify their menu, but I don't think they simplified in the right direction. You. Yeah, fuck that piece of cheese on apple pie. You fucking freak like in aware? No, it's not some people like it's a regional variant that some people appreciate it. Let's say when I worked a lot. Lot of people came in for that and would often talk about how you can't get this other places. Right. I think they were moved a little bit a thing that they had that was specific to them. And again, something that inform their identity, I think that was a miscue that said, I never tried. It was working there because look gross. It is gross. You're a freak. Look if you like pie cheese on a pie hashtag cheesy pie. And if you don't like we're gal and if you don't like a cheesy cheese on pie hashtag Weicker is a freak. But let me say hashtags. Let me say this. I also forgot my leftovers. That's on me not on them, but it did dampened my enthusiasm for the place a little bit. I won't factor that into my score, but I just have to have I we had we had a bunch of leftover on your rings and tots and chilli cheese for those home. No, I put them in. I boxed them up and I left it on the table. It's a mistake. I make all the time. Unforgivable. It was really dumb. I do that all the time..

"I am glad I did so saucer. So Jamie Evans wife ordered the, she ordered the strong the, you know, the strawberry oriented goes chocolate and strawberry together, and I was like yet, that's one of the most basic deserting ever totting. He thought it was a weird thing now. That's a weird thing. Very normal, conventional chocolate chips. Strawberries, it's like a classic dessert. Agreed. Yeah. But yeah, let's get into our final thoughts. Johnny rockets so on the show before, but just a refresher, we will go around. We'll each sort of give our closing argument on this chain and then give it a rating from one defy forks or zero to five for folks. Say one can be as low as euro. If you wanna go utensils as your guest will begin with you. Okay. I thought the food was good. Some of it was cold. Just indicates like bad service, bad quality control, which is a bit of a bummer. But I like the burger. I loved love the onion rings. Obviously, I think if you wanna milkshake, they have the best milk shakes out there. I still haven't found any that are better. But all that said nothing is that over like the entree, the burger is not overwhelmingly good enough that I would not choose to go there without a theme for me. This is an experience and I'm going to go there if I can listen to fifties music and have a really nice waitress or waiter, and just like had that little experience for whatever reason, the nostalgia, the novelty of it. That's what I'm going there for. And if that is stripped away, I have absolutely no reason to go to this restaurant. I autumn. It will just get a burger somewhere that's a little better where you know, I mean, that's I don't know where I'd get onion rings like that, but I'm sure I can find them like a high quality spot somewhere else. So I think all that said I would give it. Onion rings because of the onion rings and the quality of the milkshakes. I would say three folks, three forks. It's a solid score. But yeah, you wanted higher neck. No, it's a solid score, but I think just just as she said, it would have been higher with faming. Johnny rockets. Another funny like. It's just a funny chain. Yeah, like the fifties diner is is, is, is of it can be a fun time. The fifties music is great. That's now gone. What does the future this isn't a burger place? Are they just trying to be like five guys, right? Anything that's just straight up burgers and shakes. There's always room for that. If you have really great shakes, he got really good burgers. You can. You can survive. You know what I mean? Yeah. Are the burgers that good? The answer is no. Are they? I'm saying, are they good enough? Like we were hard on five guys. Five guys is better than Johnny rockets burger burger wise. Yeah, I think five guys burgers hard on five guys. I mean on the tournament of champions, we were, they got pretty far did whatever shut up, didn't we give it the heart, the heart of the champion award. We went harder at all. All right. Shut up for God says Cinderella story of the first tournament. Just let me say my fake. All right. My fake Jews. Anyways, Pete where people were mad at us for how we treat it. For how we how we treat it five guys. Yeah, I think maybe original view episode. We were not as charitable, but when we were visited, we're like five, five guys deserve more credit, Johnny rockets burger.

"I feel like if anytime they're going to add fish to Johnny rockets and they're gonna do their take filet of, I think that's the time to do it and just a loaded up fish sandwich, red colored vanilla milkshake. Oh my God, a gruesome bloody. Make like that. And. And when you put a little love funding, shark fin at the time, that'd be a treat more appetizing than loaded up fish sandwich. Terrible idea. Look, I don't work in the industry. I just comment on it. It's a reason for that. So we went on two separate missions, Esther, you and and your Dave king and usong-ho. We want last night as a group, Mitch, you today separately and. I received a recon that you were Intel that you are on time. So I know Joe Saunders actually already around. Techs ask, was he on. And you barely were so good for you. Like we mentioned, they've redone the interior to meet the fifties connection quite a bit. So getting into our food, we were seated. I yes, people I wanna go meet up with them on time for with you guy who I don't really wanna see. Whereas I'm always early 'cause I'm like, oh, we can get this thing done as quickly as possible. So David split decided to split burger haves and we went with the order the rocket double which is cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato sliced onion and special sauce. I guess it was make style to patties and you can get any of the burgers with.

"Welcome back to Doboy us. Our guest is we're talking about the place she used to work at Johnny rocket. You were going to get rid of your bloody rag. Yes, I saw you go into the kitchen. You open up the door to the trash, and then I saw you put the rag near eighty. You also asked me if I had a tampon cheeses. Do you need to go to the hospital. Are implying some sort of disgusting Dracula. Fucking grotesque. All right. So, oh man, starving like those little boxes at the house. You know what I'm talking about the the blood boxes. They kind of touched on that in interview with the vampire, like he's like, they're, they're, they're so hungry. They're sucking blood from rats at some point. Visit turn to a rap empire. I haven't seen the movie. Tom Cruise turns no rat vamp eaters. What I'm saying to the rats turn, they get life. Oh, no, they don't Because because it's it's like. like, I don't quite understand vampire lore all that well, but if you have an apple the right, suck their blood, it doesn't necessarily mean they become a vampire. Sometimes you're just eating somebody. I pray to God. They don't touch pizza rat in the movie. Tell me tell me they leave him alone. If you could be bit by a vampire, would you want to be? Here's a thing, not wanna live. Outside and then die. That'd be a baller move, get bit by Dracula and walk straight into the sun. But baby, you change your attitude about not wanting to live forever if you like had vampire life like my understanding of, and again, the Lord differs depending on who it is, but my understanding is that vampires like don't eat or they can't like eat or drink. And that's part of my life. I would want to not eat or drink. It wouldn't really change your your sleeping arrangements because you already do sleep in a coffin. Questioned? Yes. Do they? They don't touch pizza at the movie. Right. You're, you're gonna answer. You want to return to the pizza. You had some sort of something you were gonna say, oh yeah, I got a slam. Dunk. Wait alley, tossed me. We jammed this home Mitch pizza. Rat comes out unscathed. But some of the pepperoni pizza. I was gonna say, maybe there was garlic on his pizza. That's better. So that Johnny rockets right now has an you mentioned the Megan lira image. They have a make promotion. They're running, but no make specific menu items. That's right. Now, what a bait and switch. I know I love limited edition item or anything, and they just didn't. They do it at Johnny rockets. They had a skull island banana, shake my God when Kong was in theaters, right? We had it. We had with our buddy gene Cordeiro and but the. The now they, they don't. They have this make promotion then of any make a burger or anything. You know the promotion worked on because I did go and see the Meg. That was your motivation? I guess. So. I mean, like, I don't know why can't we? I think we decided on the batter, right? You looked at the menu and let me let me guess he's on his, and he said, that sounds good. Yesterday you said that you were going to text Mitch, that there was a Meg promotional burger? Yes, three times did that work? What happened was too smart for this, this ploy. You did a bad job with it? First of all. Burger off menu. I was like, okay, and I was like, but they're already is a thing on the menu where they say, make it a Meg. So already confusing because you ain't gonna make burger and they just double the Pat. It's just say, already have on them. It's it's a bad promotion. Yeah, it doesn't really do to right. They don't really do too much. Now. I tried to. I tried to pull a fast one on you and say, that was a secret menu. There's a secret make burger that you had order off menu and then you didn't fall for it. What do you know who did fall. Say, go ahead. Susser with with with Evan Susser. Susser Joe Saunders and Evans, Jamie? Yeah. So we want to get say, what would be your ideal? The Meg promotional menu item? "There's less meat parental, and also the conditions there in our fucking awful any factory farming is really bad, young pigs heartbreaking. I don't. I don't wanna come on this podcast down because I told I love eating and I don't judge anyone for eating what they eat. But yeah, I started out because that movie scared me for the health reasons. But then it became about the animals. But now I'm like, I really tired and I think maybe eating a burger once a week will help me. So I'm just, that's my experiment right now. What is the wait? So you're tired from not eating meat and dairy. I think someone my iron is really low and iron supplements aren't the best trying. I misunderstood. You were getting tired for meeting so much meat and dairy and helped. Help Geno and misstated as veganism because you are, you're still eating fish, but like tell you. Yes, the character from pup who ate the burgers, the same Wimpy Wimpy. He was one of the most tired guys on earth. He was. He was sleeping under a tree, and meanwhile Popeye's on his spinach, diet ball energy too much energy from c. Just don't know what to believe out there. Everybody's got a different story. What did Bluto eat. I don't know. That's a good question. I don't know, say oil. Care could named olive oil hill. Oh, God. No, I didn't mean it like that. What were you going to say? I was just gonna say, you're hoping Popeye comes back so you can play blue in the review. Do you guys ever eliminate certain things from your diet or just kind of always a free for all? I did. I did. I was vegetarian for a stretch and I just got fat. It's just like it's just hard because you know when I when I saw him down quite a bit, it was by restricting. By by having really only high fiber carbs and by cutting out sugar. And then you know, when you're when you're not eating meat, it's just like a lot of potatoes, rice and. Yeah, exactly. And, and it's also easy to I've heard this stated on some other people afraid the college vegetarian, which is like your vegetarian breeding, grilled cheese, sandwiches, and fries, and nice cream. Exactly earning a bunch of unhealthy shit. And I went through this similar sort of thing, so partly stopped it for health reasons. But like. I don't want. I won't blow V8. too much on this, but although I have a tendency to do so like iced waving your hands, shoot blood. Sorry. Oh my God. Survivor you? I would be nervous because my. Has matt's. But the. Where was I going? Oh, yeah. Like like it's also not a non issue where factory farming is not about individual choice. It's about the system. It's like a lot of things in America, like it's fucked up, not because individual people aren't recycling. It's fucked up because you know. Yeah, because these basically the one hundred largest corporations responsible for sixty percent of emissions. All right. It's it's a similar sort of thing in the food system that's saying, I know. I know. You're right. I don't like I don't like emissions. You're getting. You were going to Randy said they don't wanna bloviate too much. Just want a A million. million, your bloviating all over the place. Sick freak lax. At the top of my wishlist would be like a trend would move away from factory farming, eating sustainable..

"No. He should've. So what was your position when you were working there as a server? And then I know that like so much of the Johnny rockets back in the day, at least was like you were talking about how it's like fifties throwback, and they really embrace that for a time like they were really like, you had the, you showed me a picture of of you and your uniform last night. But like you had the old school hat the old school, like, you know, sort of fifties get up. We're there any like fifty specific job. I know you loved it, but what were the fifty specific job responsibilities? Like? I think just that I felt like a responsibility to be overly friendly, and because that's supposedly what things were like back then and obviously making milkshakes, you feel just burgers fries and milkshakes. Sure, present the fifties. And of course, the jukebox on the music, right? The music they played like was just made it like a happy place for me. Yeah, just nervous with this open wound on your end that you're gonna attract the. Meg. Blood gushing, we'll track the may leave leave the Pacific Ocean and which is in the movie lives under the Mariana trench. Okay. And it does. I mean, it's a she, right? I'm assuming this she the gotta fucking come. Like what twenty miles inland and California bleeding inside your apartment or believing so much. There's more going on elsewhere. Fucking sting. What I eat. So so like you're making milkshakes your slinging burgers, you're making catch up, happy faces. I assume. Of course, I'm drinking a lot of Oreo shakes. Do believe Johnny rockets makes the best Oriole milkshakes business. Yeah, that's another thing I was passionate about. There was the Oreo milkshakes. What was your when you when you dine there back in the day, maybe if you'd get like the the work meal, like what was your go-to burger fries and a milkshake and to this day, that's still like my happy meal or like my celebration meal. If ever I like or even if I need a pick me up, like that's what I go. I stopped eating meat last year in dairy. But like before that of burger fries, new shake is just like to me, that's the gold standard. There's nothing better. That's as good as it gets. We, let's let's talk eating, stopping meat and dairy real quick. What motivated that change? Okay. I watched the documentary. That turned everyone vegan last year, and I can't remember the name. Scary them the ring. No, not fooding. I can't remember the name of. It's just about it just made me go me and my parents watch it on July fourth of twenty seventeen. The three of us went. On July four meat holidays of the year. I can't remember the name of it now. What the health. And I've since then, I felt like I was getting really tired started eat red meat, like once a week. So that's kind of where I'm at and I eat fish as well now. Got it. So you don't dairy cut out like you cut out a. A beef chicken, all that. Yeah, for a year. And you still end red meat once a week of any poultry? No, I'm not. I never liked chicken. So when I watched this documentary and it talked so many negative things about chicken. I was like, I fucking don't even like chicken anyway. Why am I eating chicken? This chicken fit? And so now I'm done with chicken forever. Do we've talked about this on the podcast Ray, the quality of chicken can be really like, you can get. I got. I got this other another pita place, not pita, maybe it was Pizza Hut. No, it wasn't pita was it was different. It was different pita place, and I got chicken, and it was all like chew like feel like tendency chick like it was bad. It was fucking off. Yeah, you sometimes get that really just Janke shitty factory farm check and they know the animal just like. This is an awful situation. I mean, that's the thing I would say, like maybe from a. I certainly have not am not vegetarian by along strategy, but like I'd like from an harm reduction standpoint. I think there's a strong case to be made alike for eliminating poultry before beef or cutting down on volts because like the amount of chick the number of chickens who are just slaughtered is just like insane..

"That you know what that that role said that actress and I'm forgetting the actresses name. She won best actress for that film and then she never really worked. Again. It was similar to like she because she had gotten the stigma for the type of character. She'd been super typecast and then which is hard to find work. Those sorts of roles are like are not as vailable for women, but certainly not in that age, but she was like, she's fantastic. It's such a great performance. I just looked on match it. Yeah, and it was funny hurting Louise Fletcher. Yes, that sounds great to win an award and then just been go like, that's are we all working towards that to go away? I mean, I definitely want to go. This is very funny on the Wikipedia Wikipedia for her character, and it's as Eleusis big nurse, which I didn't know. But I haven't seen the movie on time or. I think I also in the book too. I think in the book they say, oh, fuck you. I'm raining species human, which I think is weird. Looking. Oh, this is work. Pedia affiliates boss Nass. Birthplace, Salem, Oregon, they have. They do have a lot of information on there someday. I'll. For sure. Someday I'll chief eunuch put a pillow over your head and then breakouts where my window off the hills. I think when you pick pick up your own sink it. So when you're going to have coronary. We'll be letting dead next. Fitting in. So let's get into this restaurant. 'cause there's a lot to discuss. And part of I wanted to discuss is that one reason you wanna talk about this chain is that you worked there, you are former employees of Johnny rockets. That's true. How did you get into the Johnny rockets game? And what was your your motivations? There was a mall across the street from my high school old orchard mall shout out to the nation's first outdoor mall. It's go. Cheol annoy is where it is at Ren center. All the new malls now are outdoors and they had a Johnny rockets. I've always been really obsessed with the fifties. I think it's like back to the future is my favorite movie going. So I think it just like liked that nostalgic feeling and so I applied for job there. Got it. And I worked there for the summer after senior year of high school, and I loved it. I was so happy. There was a great job. I had great managers, just I loved. I was really into the into the vibe. In the theme themed restaurants are big for me. I also worked at Hard Rock Cafe when I first moved out here, although I got fired before I made it to the floor, but I trained to work there at Hardrock cafe Hollywood Boulevard. But how do you get fired while you're getting trained? So we basically I got in on the ground floor before it had open, they train like a bunch of people. And then we had to do this big test where we had like people getting together doing flash cards working really hard to memorize all the menu items on the drinks. And I was ultimately just like, look, I'm going to get by on my performance. I'm like, I, I'm passionate about this, but I'm not gonna know all the details. I also have never drank alcohol. So for me, learning every ingredient in alcohol beverages, just learning new language. It's not happening. And so the day of the test, I just filled in a few things that I knew when I handed in, she's like to read. To re this test. I'm like, I can't have two shows this week and I have to leave. If you leave, you're going to be whatever she said promoted to guest or some shit. And I was like, okay, I have to do stand up. I'm not gonna stay voted guest. Yeah, they had some kind of like nasty, passive, aggressive lingo. Oh, if you're fired, you're promoted. Shitty. Yeah, so, but anyways, the star of the show, here's Johnny rockets. That's why worked very happy and accept. Got my boyfriend job there. And then he broke up with me, so then I quit. But that's that's also shit. Did you work there for a while? You know what happened? He stayed there until he went off to college after. Yeah, so he stayed there like a month after me. But yeah, I guess I just wasn't cut out for the restaurant business. Did he break up with you've been promoted to act..

I feel like now isn't. It is one that never it didn't really. There's no cult behind the island guess usual times those high-concept scifi movies have some acolytes, but that film doesn't really have anyone who's a super fan. It might just be the Michael bay stick because there is some interesting action that I don't wanna get get off in an island tangent. The make look, huge, shark. This thing is huge. It's bigger than any. It's twice the size at jaaz, which is good of a movie. The formulas that simple, it's very, it was fun. It was the mega very big at eats people here and they're out to see for a long time. And then none of this sounds different than my expectations. The may goes around in a few people ns. "Oh, so what's up. So I have you. I gotta ask you a little bit about about this whole this whole Trump thing, and, and I know you're you're a fan of of of hookers and blow. So what do you think about. I don't know whether that's, that's me. That's you. Really? Okay. Yeah. Actually, we both share that common interest. Well, you get. With. But what do you think about this Trump thing that that the the big news out in the the threat that he may be impeached and all that if you've been following any of that? I've heard I've heard about it. Yeah. Yeah, I don't care. I really don't care. I mean, I don't know railing and I were talking about it earlier and we're both right today. Literally today she brought it up. She's like, what do you think about this whole thing? I really don't care. I mean, like people are human beings. They're gonna make mistakes, shouldn't I mean regardless of whatever. Whenever I my opinions are of his presidency. I mean, besides that it whatever it doesn't. It doesn't affect me anything. I don't think there's anything I get that we're, we're talking about what's what's his name. That's that's subpoenaed in in Cohen. Thank you. Thank you for that. I, I don't think he has anything solid. I think that this whole thing is just a waste of our time. Honestly, I, I'm so blown away that this is the thing that we think is going to finally get Trump impeached and I don't like Trump. Okay, I don't. There's lots of things to dislike about him, but this just seems ridiculous to me. It seems like such a waste of time. I mean I- somebody's gotta do it someone's gotta, make sure these people are are not using campaign donations for this about, but why are we not talking about Trump tariffs? Why are we not talking about the the subsidies to counter the negative effects of Trump tariffs? Why are we not talking about the ice situation anymore? Oh, well, we are when we're trying to counter and other stupid point, I mean, and then there's the wall. And when we talk about the wall, we literally are not talking about how that wall would happen, which is financially ridicu-. Louis corrupt, and we're not talking about wall, which would really hold back. Sorry. I'm sorry. And an eminent domain, which is also something Trump loves to do. So let's talk about real things that and let's abolish things where is he doing? What's he doing? Why don't you Bosh something Trump. News better when he was rolling back regulation and all that all the garbage you was doing early on and you know you did. He actually rolled back quite a bit of regulation. Of course, they'll just they'll put new regulation in its place. So it'll all end up being failure in the end. But no, I think I think you're right. I just I felt like we need to talk about something related to current events for people we're listening, but so you show find anything Jason. Do you think that this is actually going to be the thing? Because I don't think it's going to happen there. There is there is nothing legally that is going to happen to Trump over campaign finance law. The campaign may have to pay a fine, but it none of it relates back to Trump. Now, what Cohen is suggesting in some of the things that he said is that he wants to meet with Muller's team because there he says he has evidence that Trump knew about the hacking the the Russian hacking of the DNC before it happened and actually egged it on now. If if that's true and he can substantiate that with evidence than there, there is a crime there. He's cooperating and you know, in a felony and a cybercrime. But I mean, that's that's a really, really long. It's a real long shot unless he's got recordings or something of that. So I don't think there's anything they're not like you. I gotta talk about it because it's what's on the show, and it's the news that, but it to me, it's like, I'm like, you. I think that there are so many other things that we can be talking about like yesterday on the show we talked about how seventy percent of seventy percent of kids under the age of eighteen are living in a home where someone is receiving government assistance means tested assistance,.

"Everybody hasn't heard your story. Not everybody's heard my winners wins story. I've told that thing. I know no fewer than a thousand times over the last ten years. And still every time I tell it, people like, man, I never heard that story before. That's awesome. And it's like, dude, I, we just don't realize how much repetition is necessary in order for us to have the have the effect that we want. Nice, hot tip. Thank you, Jared, actually, good one. Yeah. And that's what point because when you go back and you go well, like four episodes ago, I was talking about this. Well, you may have a new listener. Just tuned in just gonna go four episodes ago. I know what you're talking about and we talk about that too. And then we are Suming that they have listened to it, but you. Assume that ideal. I'm really soak in the see. Johnny teaches me things all the time he, he sweetened always gives me compliments about, you know, telling me I'm good at what I'm doing, but I, I learned much from this man. Yeah, a lot goes a lot more goes into to what he does that. I think people realized because it makes it seem so easy. You know. Any rocket anybody who has ever tried to do their own show or talk in front of a camera instantly has newfound respect for anybody who does it professionally and what we. We do it professionally, you you and I do. I I, it's something that we we're, we're good at its we, but it didn't come just naturally I, I had. It's funny because when I started podcasting instantly, I always did well because for the past seven years, I had been running alive, trading room, three hours a day every day. And so I could come in behind a microphone and talk for three hours straight and have no problems. Like, man, how'd you good? So good so fast. It's like now I didn't get so good. So fast. I got good over seven years before I ever saw the podcast. It's like it doesn't come easy to a lot of to most people. What happens is you get in there and you do it every day and and and then you make it look easy. So no, I anybody who can talk in front of a camera, read off a teleprompter behind a microphone in an empty room. Room and go for twenty minutes has my respect because it's not an easy thing to do. Well, like I was telling her, I mean, you know what, what it entails like, but you do like a, you know, an hour show or sometimes longer you do a show every day, but nobody understands how much time is spent on prep work. So I think it's hilarious because everyone's like, oh, they just think that you sit down start talking about stop. But really we have to research like Sopher every hour. There's probably four, three to four hours of research on the show with that we're doing. Fishing, then there's everything. Yeah. No, it's it's, it's four. It's probably it's close to four hours a day by the time he got traveled time and research and prep work. And then recording the show, then post production stuff. Yeah, it's it's close to four hours a day to do a one hour show, and yes, that is. Yeah, people don't realize how much time it takes like, oh, why don't you start a second show? It's like. Freaky. Yeah, this is crazy. You do in every day though? Jason. I mean, that's still quite a bit. I mean, that's a lot, and yeah, it is. It's a lot. It's a lot. I mean, I don't know. Luckily, there's news but I mean, other than that, man, I, I mean on my hat off to you on that one because we can barely find something to talk about, you know, because we do a segment after our show for our patriots and they, you know, we, we try to talk about something that we find interesting. We're about twenty to thirty minutes after the show. So people who get who are paying us for the show, get to hear railing myself complain about things, you know, pretty much for thirty minutes, right? And that's what we do is if people like it because they're like, yeah, I get it..

"We wanted to get the media company putting content out so we could really show people what we're bringing in kind of numbers were were getting, which are actually pretty impressive for for just starting out. So it's exciting stuff. What what is the what is the overarching goal for the company in terms of growth? You say you've got, you've got all the pieces in place. You got all the team members are assembled were what's the goal of of the company over the next? Say twelve eighteen months. Well, at twelve eighteen months, I want to. We have a few video shows and I wanna start doing that. I wanted to slowly start bringing in video content more than podcast. Podcasts is pretty easy. You know you had it's a two dimensional thing. When you start doing video, you had the third dimension which makes it that much harder to pull it off every week. Especially the goal is to have a lot more video content possibly relenting my myself actually doing a video show also in twelve to eighteen months. I think long-term though would be once we start generating revenue would be to start investing in libertarian projects and things that revolve around culture and then start hitting things like producing the neck. The next Eric July, I would love to do that doing a movie or a documentary on Murray Rothbart like the fun things like that. And once you know, once we start making some money, I would like to give it back so we can start helping other libertarian. Voices out there to to start spreading the message and make it cool again, man. I mean, I just think that we have this big disconnect in in our libertarian circles that you know, it's it's very ivory tower yen. A lot of people are just not interested in that, whereas if you may be, you know, hi, hi, hi, hide the message between some sort of cool factor. You know, like whether it be a comic book or music, or really interesting movie. I think that's the direction where we get libertarian spread. Like to add something to? I think that I, I have a similar vision, but I also believe that there will be a point in the near future where we'll be seeing contributors that are talking about home-schooling home steadying. Algorithmic black and gray markets. I think we're going to have people crypto show. I think we're going to have all avenues to independence and it won't just be. Another libertarian podcast, which I, I think that we can't really get enough of them as you know, we, we love listening to them and and but I think it's going to be all types of libertarian schools of thought. I think that there's going to be places where we're going to be picking up people who didn't know they were libertarians that's the goal is to it is to change the world in a positive manner. And I, I'm sorry, I get all excited about liberty, but that's the whole point is to for people to be sharing it with their friends in changing the minds and hearts Noah. I love that. And you guys you, we should the three of us talk off line when nobody else can hear. And because I've got, I've got some similar lie similar ideas. My goal is to is to really start. I wanna I wanna back door my way into people's lives and start preaching a message of liberty and libertarianism without coming right out and saying it..

"You have done what what I was unable to do when I first started, what's I? I don't know if you remember I had liberty one dot that I was trying to launch for a half a minute, and I could never find enough content on the video side to really propel network forward. But you my question to you. You is. How did you? How did you go about finding the podcast that you were going to bring onto the network? Did you go out, seek them out, or did they somehow find out about what you were doing and come to you? Well, it was kind of it's a little bit of both. I mean, I was talking to one person and they're like, hey, I got this guy was doing a podcast. I'm like, okay, so I talked to him, he's like sure. And I'm like, you get little perks if your exclusive with us and if you're not exclusive goal, but there's a few shows like Sherry font, voluntary is on the network and she she does a great show called postcards from Somalia, and I love the name. It's a killer name for podcast with Alan, mostly with Alamos lane. It's hilarious. I mean, it's great. So I have all these cool shows van and I really like them. And I feel guilty though because I don't have time to listen to them all my cell. So sometimes I'm like, man, I'm so sorry, Mr. episode or whatever. But I have heard at least one episode of every show. So how did you how many shows are on the network? Now. Right now we have six. Currently, we have a, we have a wild card Saturday. So we have another show that comes in. We, we have like a rotating show on Saturday. Sometimes it's, we have a, we have a podcast that comes out once a month. It's called mission control, which is all the board members for the launchpad media. So we all just talk about what we're doing and what our plans are, what what ideas we have. We all kind of chip in and try to figure out what we're going to do next to further the cause and messaging of liberty. So is there, is there like a? Is there a single podcast feed where every single day they get a new podcast or they got to download every podcast separately? One feet nice every day. Yeah, one feet. So I'm using and I'm using my old Johnny rocket launch pad feet. So if you had the launch pad show before they're now getting launchpad media shows every day. So then that's that's phenomenal. So these guys are so then you are able to identify who has what downloads or who show is, is really getting the most traction based on who's getting the most downloads in? Yes. Yeah, that's nice. Okay. Cool. Yeah. Are you guys selling marketing are? Yes selling advertising yet or the show's? Not as the show? Not grown that large it? Well, I'm right now are we've been pushing our patriotic, but we're doing pretty good there and we have had a couple bites on on that. And I'm I'm in the work with that for the show. I mean, the network is one in the sell ads and the shows can sell ads themselves, but I'm looking forward bigger. Obviously the company, the main page on our websites can have the most expensive ads for the shows may not be as much. Re up on on the and in price points and everything, but we really wanted to get the network going..
