"That is Johnny Nash also passed away this past week. Ah, guess yesterday, his family announced, and that was a gigantic hit record. I can see clearly now. He also incorporated a lot of reggae and Jamaican influence and some of the other songs I did, like, Stir it up, which maybe we can get to later. But right now we're going to Florida on the phone. Jolene. Hi, John. How are you, Jolene that I know I saw it. I saw the caller screener Jolene from Florida and I'm going. Yeah, I know a Jolene from Florida. Risi only Jolene. "First mark the passing of two great Americans. Innovators and great contributors in the field of music. Eddie Van Halen. And Houston's own Johnny Nash. 2020 has seen the loss of Ah Some of our cultural icons and the passing and only 65 years old of Ah, Eddie Van Halen to a 10 year battle with cancer. And Johnny Nash at 80. Remind us we're not promised tomorrow. Cherish those we hold dear. A friend of mine. Texted me. Last Thursday Hiss Father had just passed away and make sure you call your dad and tell him you love him. And it was a good reminder to do that. I try to do that every day. I don't always succeed, but I try. Try and you know, look, our parents get on our nerves. It's it's true. We get frustrated with him. Andi, That's the nature of the beast. I'm sure they got frustrated with us when they were when they were raising us. It's it comes full circle. Um, sometimes calling your parents are talking to your parents means listening. To doctor's appointments or grumpy comments or You know, nagging you to do this or do that, because that's what parents do. But make that call. And you know that goes for everyone. None of us were promised tomorrow. Enjoy this precious thing called life that were given for just a fleeting moment. Tonight. The vice presidential debate. You'll have to forgive me. I'm not particularly excited. I'm not particularly excited for a number of different reasons, not the least of which Is That this election, for better or for worse is going to come down to Donald Trump. It shouldn't But it will I don't think that Mike Pence is a major part. Of why people are going to vote for or against Donald Trump. If I had my druthers, I would draw other as my grandmother would say, I would druthers that this election be about choices. Directions. Paths. But the media has very carefully Made this election simply about Donald Trump. Is he great? Or is he awful? And you're forced to pick one of the other. "Is which is great. You know, I hate to be one of those guys that gets up and plays a song and hates it to the point of making himself crazy over. So I really, really enjoy playing the songs going out touring, playing every single night a little bit of a junkie that way. Another of the greatest guitar that's sure. Uh, very impressive. Tio. Super Nice guy, like couldn't couldn't have been nicer. But to sit down with that iconic head of hair that he's got that black, curly hair and he wasn't wearing a top hat. But you know, I would have liked to have thought that he would like he always does on stage. Oh, and I almost for a joke. I was going to go get a wig and a hat. Tio wear the same thing. And then I started to look at some old interviews that he did just say if there's anything new to talk about anything like that, and almost every dopey reporter that has talked to him did that went and got themselves a wig and a hat. So it's like Okay. That's a good lesson for me, right? No, don't be reporter Are you and Johnny Nash? This is interesting. I just read today that I can see clearly now which which he wrote, and, of course, was his big hit. He reportedly wrote that while he was recovering from cataract surgery, I mean, I'll listen to that song and a whole new way now. Yeah, I had heard that story as well. It's a very interesting story because he started off really, you know, just singing pop music. He was sort of a straightaway pop singer went on vacation to Jamaica. And as many of us who have gone on, you know, vacation to Jamaica very influenced by their music and culture and food, and you know the thing local interests. Hey, very much got immersed in Jamaican culture started a record label. They're signed a young Bob Marley and the Wailers to his record label. And his music was forever influenced with that reggae sound I can see clearly now was his biggest hit, but he had the song Hold me tight. I like that one. Had the hit song, Stir it up. It stopped recording in 1986 Not exactly sure why, but He is definitely left a legacy of some pretty great songs as well. And he has died of what is being described as natural causes. He was 80 and I guess. In recent years he lived on a ranch in Houston. They had the Johnny Nash Indoor Arena ended Rodeo shows. So he stayed active, but not necessarily in the music business. Interesting guy, and it's strange, isn't it? Ah, Johnny Nash and Eddie Van Halen and Helen Reddy and Mac Davis on the last week or two. Yeah, icons of the seventies and eighties, for sure. Van Halen a little further into contemporary times, but You know, it's it's a shame Helen Reddy and Mac Davis dying the same day, Ben Halen and Johnny Nash. Dying, at least be announced a CZ dying on the same day and we're talking here in the office. It's like it's It's a shame when you die on the same day as another famous person. You know, because you don't get you know the coverage that you might not normally get thinkyou're gonna mind at that point, and I think Well, not with us. I don't know. I would like to, you know, talk to Farrah Fawcett and see how she feels about that. She died the same day as Michael Jackson. And, you know, nobody even remembers that she passed away that day. I can I feel kind of bad for for a faucet on that occasion, so If you know when I die if everyone else could just hold on for a few more hours. Yeah, that's not a problem. You get my open cover. At least we can do in Richard's best known for is the voice of Victory. Auto Record. Let me just get that out there a few times before some of the rest of you died that day on that morbid note. We'll see you tomorrow. Pretzels. Look what chips Locke, who's the new guy? Santa? I think he's looking at me. Pressel's You got it twisted. He's looking at me. Stop being salty chips. Such a such a movie contribute five musicians board guy passes at the age of 18. And you think you see, I bring humor into the shell Redl. That's where the humor comes from Unintentional. It's humor, but it's unintentional Cash. You can nothing beats of solid obituary. Huber that's always been by Matra. Well, you know what's going on, and there's gonna be a lot of humor. It's going to be the vice presidential debate. I know there's going to be. Can you believe this Plexiglass? If you can hear by the way in 7 10 W. R Tonight at the nine o'clock, I believe it is. Yeah. So coming at us lately, And you know what? When they were bickering over whether or not to use plexiglass. Here we go. I mean, it made no sense. I thought it made. I thought it made Pence. Looked like an idiot and his people. I mean, here you have the President, United States and all of us people. You should have seen Twitter last night with Stephen Miller. I mean, people talk about Unfortunately, people jumping for joy, the people who don't like the president, and they hate Steven Miller. You should have seen that the stuff that was going around last night anyway. What with all the people in the White House contracting the Corona virus and four pence to come out, say, Oh, I don't need you know they're going to play this whole macho thing. We don't need master only plexus That made no sense. So I think It was a smart move on their part to cave in at the end and say, OK, we will have the plexiglass between him and I'm both, You know, they said, you know, first, the campaign guy said, Well, she wants to surround herself in a fortress of plexiglass. She should go ahead and do it. And finally, the plexiglass next to both of them. I mean, really, that's what they're going to argue about. Well, the real thing going on here, Ofcourse, you know, you're getting lost there in the stupid debate about plexiglass, the real thing going on here and you know this is true. Bartlett is Biden is not gonna debate again. He's got he's got away in the first debate, and he's not going to debate again. They don't want me out there again. I agree. Yeah, Here's the thing, though. I think tonight this is this is a critical debate. This one of these people is going to be going to be the president of United States within the next four years. Very, very good chance and so determined. Do you want you could you're voting for Kamala Harris or Mike Pence? You know, you know. That's that should be the vote. Not trump. Biden Harris Pence. Who do you want? Yeah, they should be on the top of the ticket because that's what's gonna happen well. Well, don't say that. You had that choices. No, I'm just saying, Do you remember one You're saying there's gonna be a big deal tonight? Do you remember one single second of the Tim Kaine? Mike Pence debate from four years ago. I mean, I must see vice presidential debate ever remembers when who did the Smackdown of Dan Quayle and said, I want John Genevieve. And you are Benson, Right? I knew John Kennedy and you're no John Kennedy. But Linda, this is diff situation is different. I mean, these people told you likely going to be the next president, one of them. Absolutely so stay up late land and watching each year. Well, I will report back to you coming up the axe. That was one wild and crazy Zoom call. Look who showed up unannounced. Well, you've heard Michael. Let me talk about balance.
