"The real very quickly. and the record please read off. it's red eye radio a he is Colleen I'm hearing McNamara eight six six then you run a United seventy discussion about the the whole NC double a and and California I was reading her were Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire investor mark Cuban warned against a new California law that would allow athletes to profit from their lightness and signed endorsement deals California governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill on Monday currently student athletes are not allowed to earn compensation while playing college sports the only exceptions are scholarship money from the institution a modest housing allowance for on campus housing or per diem for travel days on a team sanction trips you have to ask yourself what happens if they got hired to. Cuban told Neil Cavuto what happens if you want to fire him do you want to start firing student athletes humanist concern that if the student athletes some meals in good enough to play in a team all of a sudden they lose their scholarship my guess is this is only a guess at the NC double a may implode particularly as it applies to football he said predicting third party groups would swoop in and create their own sort of economic system another worry he has is different positions trying to negotiate more pay than others for instance a quarterback says he deserves more than the offensive linemen intern Cuban has a dire outlook if this progresses what doesn't require the schools to pay the the the athletes it just requires that they cannot be banned them keep them from going out making deals with like video game companies for their like this it's out it's about outside deals. my question is what kind of distraction is this for any given coach. because look at what it creates a create something new not that there isn't that kind of celebrity status in in college football does happen. Johnny Mandel well look at that right now for a look right now trouble Lawrence a claims yeah right I mean he okay he would be cover Lawrence right now and climbs in would be worse I don't know he would have signed a deal for a hundred million dollars in just for his college grew alone because he started off of route you know as a as a freshman right here's another thing. if your art I just this just popped into my head because there's so many ways to look at this and by the way I've said this before knowing what I know now that I wasn't good enough to get a scholarship but I don't think I would've played NC double a sports if many people probably said that if I know what I know now because it would dominate everything I did college. yeah the extracurricular activities I would want to do I could do and look I remember when I was in junior college and and I finally got good enough to play basketball and the coach came to me saw me playing interference and said you should try out for the team I looked at him and said I'm working two jobs going to college I have no basketball future. so I actually did refused to play bass to play basketball at that point they said you should drop to the team and I said no I dropped the team I. what do you think you think that an eighteen I knew that so. but what happens for example in trouble or to what it what it what is he just nineteen now is eve even twenty years old yet and already won the you know the the the championship last year what if you come in because remember. travelers have you stay two years in college how many quarterbacks and say okay I'm going to the pros and then go no where. think about this just this one I thought is Trevor Lawrence using him as an example. more valuable to one ninety if he stays a superstar in college for four years. then if he just stays another year in college and then goes to the pros right where again you don't know if you're going to succeed right might it in some cases of the superstars keep them in college longer look like some of the basketball powers out there they're known to they get to the best high school basketball players who come and play for them for one year and then go to the pros. well you don't know if you're going to be successful or not you probably aren't going to be if you have the opportunity as a college basketball player to make five million a year for the next four years in endorsements. where Hey you know when you get to be in the NBA who knows is that an incentive to stay. I don't in some cases it might be in some cases it might not. well I do wonder you know I guess what what kind of demand there is will it be just for. a few. when you look at the pros I mean there's endorsement deals it depends on you know the the player depends on the position and their profile of course. but many of them if your first string you're likely going to get some kind of endorsement deal whether it's local car dealership or you know or or a national deal right. but. how much of that is at play in on any given team in the NC double a. hi you you make you know something you make a great point because there's not going to be for example the merchandising by having for like in in golf I'm. you know once you make the PGA tour. everybody every golf company comes after you and we'll pay you a certain amount to wear their emblem on your head or with like with Phil Mickelson hell do things completely outside of that I mean how many I don't even know but I I know I've been I think Phil Mickelson you don't I think of one day. because that's the emblem he added a short nap free for years right and and so in golf they allow you to do that you can't do that in the NFL you can't do that in the you know the you can do in the NBA you can't wear it in Askar yeah. golf yes but you could do it in the end NC double a golf you couldn't do it any way when it comes to we know what you were on the the the you know the field and. again it will be like the pros were a lot of things they do with a lot of the commercial maker during the summer. but how many. again. you know what is what is the marketing potential of somebody in. you know in the end and I did a marquee was talking about is wants his hits you're going to see that it's going to be some kind of. painting at the college's eventually it's going to get to that and then are you gonna be firing students and then do they keep right scholarship but if you're paying them they don't have a scholarship you're paying them you know forty thousand but you're not producing for me now now you're fired is going to is college gonna become a minor league. well college become the minor league NFL or what's the minor league for college I mean if you think the waves it's it's structured right now it is a minor league for awhile well I mean a no I mean if what's going to be for for college ball I mean if if. if they're treated like pros in that they can make money in endorsement deals. then there are no longer performing you know as they as they once were yeah can you would like Cuban brings up where what happens from there what. what becomes the. you know the the triple a league for for for those students essentially because the bills on the Browns. but I I mean it's in Miami you know because it was making the point I don't know if he's right or wrong but he does make a solid point in that you could see essentially the NC double a imploding here just kind of falling apart because then all the sudden the game is on right now I don't see the demand on any given again. for the collect for the association friend NC double a as a whole it's not like the NFL because you can go in the locker room and you can see endorsement deals you know they they again big and small but they all have their endorsement deals. will it be that way in the NC double leg could you just say Hey you know this kid makes a name and we could we could capitalize on that she's not going to get the deal that the quarterback gets but he gets a deal. and he's happy to get it his first deal ever. and it's not ten million it's ten grand or whatever it is. and then you start again there's eight and then and then what between the students. no there already is that level of celebrity status when you know this one student whether it's a quarterback running back whatever it is gets more media attention because they're performing but what is that based on. that's based on their performance. right so now you take it and you add an endorsement deal to it and they're going to they're like this is out there they're going to be making appearances and you're creating more of a celebrity status and some of that has nothing to do with their performance on the field I mean it does it's connected to it because Nike is not going to just put up money or whoever it is for a student that's not performing but. in the in the locker room it carries something else into it that I guess I have to believe for coach. and the staff. end end end all of the athletic directors of those schools is going to be. a bit of a task to handle see here's what I've. you know because I wouldn't be that good of a football player a basketball player but I'd sit there and I'd be the first. first NC double a player to kneel and say publicly products ox. and once I kneel and says and I say consistently trumps socks and he's destroying the country wait a minute I can comes to me with a ton of money. mine medium over rear into haulage I stayed for years now I'm the water boy but it doesn't matter because you know I've got all these endorsements right no I don't think about this so you're on to something here. because what if something is in the ad at the school really isn't the. it's that's that's not really what we wanted for our students. that same strip clubs or just horsing players. well we're thinking what I'm thinking the same thing come to jungles. well I mean. are you if you've got a if you've got a senior in it and they're and they're over twenty one. bud light. yeah. in the end that the school says wait wait no the team the coach. because you know that we have to keep in mind that those coaches have individual standards themselves I mean they have control over those students in a way that is not the case with with us some of the coaches in the NFL. in terms of morals and standards. right. and expectations right there's team rules you have to abide by right to the team rules go out the door right. and if there's a conflict there how does it apply. what are you to do what I guess recourse with the with the school hat for the NC double a. if they say this isn't you know this isn't really the way we wanted our you know students because you know you already see it with with social media. well they they posted a a joke or something that or or re tweeted a joke or something that was in poor taste it's happened just a couple of times but none the less I think that's a good example because once you start putting money into play. you can bet this thing is going to go it this this the echo chambers gonna go we know where to full swing we know we're going we saw the northwestern unionization member a couple years ago the push to was a Northwestern University to unionize the football team. yeah and and so I mean that in in essence that's were that's were probably has will that's probably world will go when I die I doubt I really doubt that the NC double a will be the same twenty years. you know we may not even recognize what the NC double a is right twenty years from now well you and you were out of something during the break to when we're talking about this. now all the kids get when I go out to California in play..

Cleveland Browns rookie Antonio Callaway cited for marijuana possession

"Getting a quote is easier than ever. So we're changing it to death taxes and that the Browns are going to Brown and the Sixers are going to stick, sir. Start with Cleveland free now and the news that the Cleveland Browns rookie Antonio Calloway. It's now been cited for marijuana possession pulled over in his car by strong Zillow, high police at Reemstma on Sunday morning. He failed to yield to oncoming traffic and a small amount of marijuana was found under his seat. He was also driving with a suspended license. This Brown's fourth round, pick despite a troubled past at Florida suspended last season for involvement in a credit card. Fraud case also tested positive for marijuana at the NFL combine in February. And this of course happened just hours before the Browns traded receiver, Cory Coleman. A previous draft pick to the bills. Also, Josh Gordon is out. So this would have been useful information to them a few hours earlier than they found out. They may not have made that move with Corey Coleman and either way free dial if you're the Browns, are you the team that thinks it's wise to take a chance on a guy with substance abuse problems that have already reared their had at the combine right? If you can't control yourself enough to not test positive at the combine and you already had issues at Florida, are you adding him to the list of potential draft busts that very recently include Johnny Mandel for the same reason. And jury's still out on Josh Gordon for the same reason. This is why the Browns are gonna are gonna Brown. Always do when when you make this kind of call from a front office perspective, you're hoping that you can catch value and you believe that the structure within your locker room can can bring a kid like this along and and get him not only right on the field, but off of it as well. But when you have this many red flags and warning signs and you still roll the dice and this happens, you have to point at the front office and go, what the heck were you doing? I mean, that's the key here. When you know this much information about a prospect in a prospect that has had this many issues in his past, and this still happens, you deserve all the criticism that's coming your way. You deserve all the people laughing and shaking their heads and going of the Browns because this is the call that you could have avoided, and this is the call you made anyway. Yeah, you're right. And I remember talking about Calloway back on this show during the combine and wondering which team was likely to be willing to take. Chance on a guy who had the history he had and showed up to the combine and was unable to present himself in a way that was that was sufficient to pass the test. I mean, also I didn't even mention yet that he was accused of sexual assault in two thousand fifteen and suspended from school that off season. He was later cleared in a title nine hearing, but the accuser enter attorney boycotted it because there was a Florida booster adjudicating the case. They didn't feel should get a fair shake in rightfully so during the hearing, he said, he was so stoned. He had no interest in having sex with anyone that somebody said as an as his defense for why he couldn't possibly have sexually assaulted her. I mentioned the credit card fraud incident, and you know, this is a chance that the Browns were willing to take on a guy who now could have already blown his spot has potential for a starting job with the Browns..

"Fast ball in hand he is fast maybe not john wall fast but he is fast so i don't see him as a bust again willie get overdrafted it's almost like johnny mandel got drafted because the russell wilson guys get drafted because there's prototypes he's if steph curry did not exist you're not taking him number one and he may go there so i think he'll be overdrafted i don't see a complete bus though i think what happened was the the media kind of put him on his pedestal and compared him to a steph curry when the the fact that matters we should have just been appreciating trae young and what he was doing nobody ever lead college basketball in scoring and assists that's extremely hard to do i i was fifth in my legs my senior year fit the nation in scoring was nowhere near in lead in a nation in assist needed to score he carries so much of the office of burden on his back he had to do everything and he dig it wore down and teams did adjust into your point in the nba depending on the system he gets in the coaching the teachers that are going to be around him and other players he'll be able to i think he'll be able to thrive if he's in the right system i still think that he's a really really good passer now sure if the offense is going to translate slate that fast in nba but him find guys and having to bility to pass guys open i think that will still be there yeah i'd agree fairly good bus potential if he goes to the wrong team listen you go to sacramento we know you fall off the map quickly member and fox kentucky awesome point guard goes to sacramento did you hear his name at all will he was all right but trae young those two orlando some people predicting six i'm telling you that's that's a nightmare for trae young but i think on the upside he could be a mike bibby type player a good solid player not an all star who has a nice tenure career and as one of three or four good players on a decent what i wish was available to trae young which i don't think is available in his own mind because again expert his expectations matter as well if he comes into the league thinking about being scored he's i wanna leave the league scoring and assists that may be too much for him if he came into the league with a different mindset set and this is an incredible high bar to reach but if he if this thought it ever cost my i could see him being more john stockton than steph curry but i don't even think he's even remotely thinking that way and look you gotta be blessed to have a call malone to run alongside you to be john doctor but if he wasn't a guy if he's not thinking about leading the league score could this be a guy that could average fifteen sixteen points and tennis tennessee's at the peak of his career the ways stockton did but i don't even think that's crossing his mind if you look at point guard because point guard have the ball they're the quarterbacks of battle it really is gonna come down to this above the shoulders the reason that westbrook struggles he struggles emotionally he lives in a tunnel the reason steph doesn't he recruits k deed he doesn't live in a tunnel john wallace struggled with maturity that's neck up other players might conley limited has been great mature great leader when you become a quarterback or a point guard we always pay attention to the body in the game that's a leadership position to your point i remember hearing a couple of things this year he wasn't always the best teammate that to me is a roadblock because not even though i don't like his defense it's not like kyri shutdown it's not like steph shut you down if he comes into this league right mindset mature wanna be great teammate it'll work that's going to be tough for him because this is a guy at oklahoma who had the green light as soon as he crossed half court take any shot you want right do whatever you can and to all of a sudden switch and pivot to being passed i that's going to be tough especially on a.

"They just don't deal that maybe he's worth giving that big payday to or whatever it is but it it's interesting that you got to receiver selected in the top twenty are now on their thirteen and three years are still considered to be good players at the very least and sammy watkins two very good plant brandin cooks it's really interesting to me too because we'll we'll get to the final twelve year but you know the top ten was good but there were some mrs there then you have that unbelievable run and then you look at the bottom twelve nut nut not as good you know not as successful which by the way is how it should be probably right i mean the lower your picking in the round the more of a sure thing it should be at twenty one the packers took a hot clinton dix twenty two the browns famously took johnny mandel twentythree the chiefs took d ford twenty four the bengals took corner darkwa denard twentyfive the chargers cornerback jason barrett we mentioned the eagles at twenty six with marcus smith which was a surprise twentyseven there's a cardinals down buchanan who's really a linebacker for them carolina got kelvin benjamin at twenty eight the patriots took dominic easily at twenty nine the tackle out of floor i don't think he was there for two years the niners at thirty took jimmy ward thirty one the denver broncos got bradley roby and the things i believe traded up to thirty two.

"Right kind of work at the a big part of you know when you're gonna make a decision of that magnitude so if it goes darnold one barkley to that leaves the jets at number three i know you're a big josh allen guy i sell me a little bit more analysis on why he'd be the right pick at number three compared to mayfield so i'd love to see also mayfield's and rosena their personalities do clash in the big media market of new york yeah i think you know for me josh allen i just to look at it i love the way that he looks when he plays the position he looks like a quarterback people questioned sometimes his accuracy the numbers weren't as impressive from an accuracy standpoint but that wasn't because he was missing open receivers that was because he's trying to make plays down the field and he's trying to you know maybe taking shots when he needs to probably learn to be a little bit more patient baked easier throws sometimes he'll learn that at the nfl level those he's a sharp enough guy he's got the i q and he's got the the measurable in terms of the ability to make all of those kind of throws and i think with the right kind of coaching the right kind of fit he'll show he can be a great fro as well you know i think it'd be pick baker mayfield or or anybody else other than one of those top three guys in the top ten picks i i don't think you can justify that i i'm not gonna put baker mayfield in the category of johnny mandel because i think he is more of a leader and he's more of a guy that teens can rally around but i just don't i'm not convinced that the skill set is there this guy can justify or you can justify using a high first round pick on a quarterback with his side and with his ability quarterback they just don't translate i don't think very obviously to the nfl game even though he's a competitive dude and he's a he's shown he's a winner you know i i i.

"Really tried to walk back a bit of what clearly didn't go over the way he intended but i'm not sure at this point as we try and renew some sort of trust with the johnny manziel that we're receiving because it is markedly different from the one that we got for a long time how much we believe and how much of this is sliding because he then cited the difference between a toxic quarterback room that he came into his rookie and the one that included veteran josh mccown in two thousand fifteen that he cited is markedly different and those things can be true what to me this is more reminder of all the smoke and mirrors that goes on in the pre draft season because johnny mandel i've already said i don't think he's a guy that we're going to see an nfl uniform again so what he says now retroactively should be more of a cautionary tale but i think even more than that a reminder but during this draft process the reason teams are going through such great lengths the reason we have weird psychological testing wunderlich scores and those cryptic interviews at the combine that involved questions that we don't fully understand is because you're trying to break through kids and guys going through an interview process not giving you their true self they're giving you the best most polish version of themselves as they try and go out there and make sure that they can get the most amount out of their college performance because what you get paid as a draft pick a guy coming into the league is based on what you didn't college you performed well enough to merit this election and this dollar amount and so these guys rightly are trying to put their best foot four and there are millions of dollars in an industry of getting people ready for the nfl draft basically teaching you.

"At some i would say that you're like prototype this is what it is all right the tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of one's existing beliefs or theories that is like you should just put your picture up there right now with baker mayfield and your confirmation bias it's it's out of control here's why here's why i'm not just going to state that without giving you some evidence wise because there's mounds of evidence that he isn't the guy that you're talking about okay when you talk with his teammates when you're around his practices which i have been countless times you see that his teammates not just love him because he's the quarterback they love him because he works hard they love him because he's in there he's helping develop young players he's a great gym rat he's schematic very smart on the board you'll hear that from several gm's and decision not anything like men's years older than anybody through tons of touchdown touchdown interception ratio is one of the best in college football for two straight years he set the efficiency record all time in college football last year in the second half of one possession games he threw eleven touchdown passes guess what all the other quarterbacks in the draft right now in the top six quarterbacks no one's more than four i mean what does it he was seven oh add oklahoma's a starting quarterback against ranked opponents on the road but you're one of throw all that away because you've got one video well running away from the celebration i know i have one video i got up video guy young with you on the junk junk i got police got run into the band by the way johnny manziel ninety percent of the johnny mandel video was he's a great teammate.
