"I. Music came from a guy named Norman greet Norman Greenbaum legend very one hit wonder. All right. Mike. One of our listeners named George Sand's Georgia tweet tweet tweet with him all the time. All right. Has dug up. The game where you made your one three points in your NBA career. Now what year do you think it happened? Guess the date nineteen eighty five I would say February thirteenth K you're off by more than a year. It was December twenty ninth nineteen eighty six oh plow gonna do who you were playing four to December in nineteen Eighty-six, the Spurs, you're playing for the Spurs. You're right. It was a game in Utah new it. Do you remember if you wanna lost the game, we lost sight? Record. God one. Oh, nine to one. Oh, one drop your record. Two seven and twenty two. Now eleven guys played in that game for your team including you, you did not start. You came out the bail. How many guys can you name on that scene in koneohe team? All right. Johnny moore. Alan robertson. Johnny Moore's wrong. He did not play joining. Okay. Well, I knew us on the team. So Roberson did plow. Robertson me artists. Gil more, Mike Mitchell. David Greenwood two guys that you started. You've named three of the starting right, Gail know Mike, gale strike to Michael. You've named three of the starters, the other two starters went on to become somewhat successful coaches. One was a former NBA head coach. I think he's an assistant now and the other one is longtime college coach who's coaching right now did well in the tournament. Johnny, Johnny doc, used to call him chicken hawk, the chicken hawk and fog on a little chicken chicken hawk. All right. One imagine why the other one he matter of fact this game was in Utah, he would later go on. He doesn't anymore, but he would later go on to coach the jazz head coq au, Bobby Weiss. No no all of head coach. Oh, Ticor corden type. Mentioned Mike Mitchell passed away years ago nother another guy played one only played one minute was in all American. With Chris Mullin at Saint John's wait. A minute was Ed Neely team to new Larry christova Christo, actually. The only two you're missing one thing. John's with with one minute was probably a rookie on this team. Oh, Walter berry, Walter berry. And then there was a guy. I've never heard of this guy. Anthony Jones, Anthony. But I got about him and Johnson's. Grew. Why you were talking to me. John Wheeler with no NBA team in Saint Louis who do we watch? We watch Mizzou. I Johnson volt was on the eighties Mizzou teams that I paid ten. Yeah. He's a good shooter that Utah team shooter. John Stockton off the bench. He wasn't starting threat. He was behind Rickey green. Right. Right. It was raking Rini Kelly Puka with Carl Malone, Bobby Hansen and you remember the center you probably had to guard him. This is the biggest human being eaten. Yeah. Now how Lewis my numbers game? You scored fifteen points coming off the bench. What am I shooting numbers seven fourteen? Okay. That's acceptable. And you in that particular game you attempted one three and you made it you also ahead, four rebounds, a turnover a block in two thousand fifteen point. You're the second leading score in that game behind Johnny dockings who had nineteen was thud everybody can score on a lousy team. Gesture has pretty. Good back, then alone, seven twenty two coach insane into it was he is innocent with Denver. Yeah, I saw mind the bench and was Frank Layden coaching the gen frankly good that you were nineteen in nine they were good..

"Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it in my stomach was in a not for about thirty five of those minutes. Here. You know, it was the best environment. Other been in for thirty two games. It was, you know, for the jump balls entire stadium standing, and you know, sharing on their feet. And that's a unique thing that have been the tournament because it's many different crowds and many different people there to watch and you just have this feeling right away with the way dog instead of going that we ran for that night. And we had to really step it up, and you know, taco falls a lot better than I think we even saw on tape, you know, in in person, he's even bigger and he knows how to use his body. And so, you know, honestly down the stretch we had to make some plays. And again, you go back and this goes back to it's one play either way. And I think we did make enough plays in that game to win. And then your heart stops for a second one aubrey's about to tip it in and you don't know if it's gonna go in or out, so but it's one of the best games. I've ever been a part of giant dog. Coast for two years. He's a special player, obviously. He's a great coach. So hate to hate that we play those guys. But what a season they had as well. What about our J Barrett? We talked so much about Zion. And I remember you were the first ones to tell me about Wendel Carter saying, hey, don't get down about drafting seven. If you get Wendel Carter, you guys are going to be very happy if the ping pong balls, don't go the bulls way and the bowls don't get Zion. But they were to get RJ Barrett. What would you tell bulls fans? So I'm really glad you actually asked me about RJ because I think RJ's gone, you know, and unfair some criticism at times throughout the year. And he's had historically weren't a great seasons. Not just Duke, but just in college basketball history. You know, he's scored the second most points of anybody ever in the season at Duke, and he's going to be an even better pro. He's gonna be terrific. He's got an amazing feel for the. Game. He's gonna turn into being a really personal defender. He's gonna be great two way player. And he's a guy you can play on the bowl or off the ball. And I think as you know, time goes on it gets a little older decision making. We'll get even better. You know, even our Sweet Sixteen game, he's eleven assists. And so I think people were a little critical open this year a little too critical. If I'm being honest, and I think he's going to be a really special pro right out of the gates Johnny how athletic is see because it's hard to compare him. Anytime he's on the court with someone like Zion because he's so freakish in terms of athletic ability, does R J. Yeah. Yeah. Go ahead dogs can say this. He have above the average athleticism across the board. Yeah. That's the crazy part because he's a really good athlete. And you just look at some of the donkey this year where he's gone over his head and windmills and Zion. Threw it off the backboard him one time. He's got all that. But zion. Sometimes makes it look like, you know, RJ stuff isn't as freakish is it really is like RJ's off the charts athletically, and so that's one of the things I think Zion. You kinda get a spoiled a little bit. When you're watching what Zion does at times. I don't want you to break any recruiting violations or rules or anything. But is there another Zion out their senior in high school, roaming, the courts in the United States a freshman? Yeah. I can tell you. We've looked really are in the next three or four years where recruiting the best guys and knows dines out there though. Okay. That safely. John John would would you agree with us that Waddle, and I have said that if ever a one and done was good for somebody. Could we've always said, look if a guy's good enough, go pro, and it's probably going to go there and here any test. Yeah. Cohen in highschool, but isn't Ziona great example that if he didn't have the one year at Duke that he wouldn't get the deal that he's going to get any would not be drafted number one. Like, he's probably going to be drafted. Yeah. Well, in his particular case, that's definitely true. Like, there's probably is probably very unlikely would have been the number one pick. And you know, everything that's I mean, did he hit out of the park. I think Duke was way for him. But especially what he did for. So that's a big advantage. Now, they're going to the NBA in his position. You know? We've always felt like gosh should have that choice. Not not where they're forced to go to college coast gays been big on that. And you know, all of us. Us actually coaching staff feels that way. But I think you can look at it the year from senior in high school to year in college is a big year. So from evaluation standpoint, you definitely get to find out more about who they are. So I think it'd be tougher to valuate. But also the guys it's about what's important and what's best for the player in the person. So, but no question who's going to win it all? Oh, man. It's you know, that's a that's a tough question. I think the states when we talk about a really do. I think the state has a chance to go all the way. And I also think Virginia's got a really good shot with what they've done. I think sometimes karma. What happened to them last year and they come back. And I think they I guess Virginia would be my pick. If you're if you're making a pick. That's who it is you watch. Right. I mean, you're not one that because the defeat was so bitter that you just turn it on. Right. You'll still want. Well, well, I say I'm not going to Ryan I really don't want to. But I'm going to end up watching, of course, because you're basketball, but I have to I have to watch is painful, but I have to John you're out. Guys. I mean, come on. I North Carolina in the final. So I don't have a final four team left in. So I'm not the God. Ask for sure I'm sorry. Let you guys it's all your fault. We'd be there as well. We blade you on the show. Yeah. Shit. That's fair for having me as always John. Thank you John there. He is the associate head coach at Duke, John Shire, really good stuff. He's going to be head coach tone and just like, Chris Cowan Johnny dockings and whoa JR. And all those guys who have sat next to Tommy Tucker, you taught me anchor. I mean, there's so many more probably that we're not even remembering lobby Hurley Bobby highly around his own program. Coach K though, I don't think he no. I don't think you're right. I think you're right about Jeff Capel Jeff Capel is he still coaching or is he not coats in. I yeah. I mean, so it's amazing. You know, he's a kid who played a cleric north. Everyone's like, why did you go to Duke, you should have stayed in state? All he he wanted. He wanted title at Duke. And he sits next to I was thinking about this while watching him like he's just this kid who grew up in Northbrook. He he's sitting next to one of the all-time great coaches ever ever. Well, if he ever thought, I mean, listen, I'm a his dream was was that he was going to go from the court and the collegiate level to the NBA level. I believe he had an eye injury at one point, and and his professional career, you know, never really developed into what he probably wanted it to be. But if he ever had thought of being a coach if the plane Crear ever ended. Well, how else I mean where else would you want to be to kind of be brought along in that profession irreplaceable? Yeah. Joe's in crown point wanted to hit some base. Joe you're on ESPN one thousand pig is. Yeah. Bring us some I'm a I'm the southside fan, and for all these up Vanclief saying that they wanna get rid of job Manhattan, forty years being in the playoffs before consecutive years winning the World Series after a hundred plus years. You guys are crazy even think about getting rid of him this quickly. Well, don't Joe don't talk to cubs fans. If feel Epstein was on the phone with you right now because this is coming from the front office. What would you tell feeling jed? You brought a World Series to Chicago with the cubs. You guys need to figure out a way to try and work it out just the way that can an Ozzy had a huge blow up it you gotta be able to work it out because there's a chemistry there that had needs to work out. Both of them probably are at fault for something throughout the way. But you gotta work it out for the best at organization gonna tell you too. I think that and I can only go by the people that we've talked to on a fairly consistent basis. I think there's a pretty strong majority of the people that don't wanna see Joe on. There is a group that also is not a huge collectively not a huge fan. Right. And I think the majority of people the most vocal group is the probably the minority that want him gone there, the loud ones, probably numbers wise. I would say anything there's more people who would lie because I would like Joe to stay. I want Joe to continue to have success. And I know it's hard to replace a guy I've seen it. In this town countless times with every coach that the front office thinks is going to be better. And there was a count you made the come in. And I know that you weren't trying to go apples to apples with like lovey. Let me get fired after ten and six season. But he had only gone to the postseason once in like the last five or six years. Joe's been to the postseason in each of the four years. He's been the manage. That was my point that there were still lots of vocal people saying lovey got a raw deal. But if you look at Loveys deal the seven and nine seasons. He didn't go to a one year after another postseason like Joel Madden's run. It's not been done in Chicago baseball, four straight years of making the postseason, and he could be gone. It's pretty incredible talking to baseball waddles world uninterrupted coming up next commercial free, and John Chambi will join us from Atlanta Waddle and Silvy on ESPN one.

"Rich. I can hear you now. Hey, man. I you doing rich. Hey, where I you're hours afraid, I was gonna get you this week because we didn't make it but look at their we made another Sweet Sixteen three in a row, rich. Well, you don't I told you last week when we talk we look real good. Going into the last game of the first round. Now, we're in the Sweet Sixteen and before you even get started on the elite eight, okay, I I'm gonna take that to the Bank that being said, you me everybody probably in in the city of Ann Arbor. Probably in the Detroit region. I'm gonna go as far as where you are rich down near in Toledo, but outside of that national pundits everybody around are picking Texas Tech. And there's a reason they're in athletic team. They've shown some things they play they play great defense. But Michigan plays. Great defense too. I feel the same way you do Jamie. I've heard some of the, but I've also heard some guys each because listen, I guess if I forget that we got a seven footer to and we've been we've been looking real good the last couple of games, and I told you what are the differences had to be. And that's exactly what's going on. No, I'm glad you pointed that out because Charles Mathews, he came back. He's he's got the ankle looks like it's getting better and better each and every game in in in this tournament. And I'm expecting big things in this game from Charles Matthews where where he's moving around feeling good. I'm expecting things when they go to a smaller when they go to the smart when they wanna play small ball is air livers coming in for John Taskey them being able to do that. Maybe that confuses that confuses Texas Tech a little bit. But I'm looking for. Exurbia Simpson to really have a good game. Well, we talked about this all the time and how great it gave you been playing. And I think he's been shooting the ball. Really? Well, and I agree. He is he's gonna be he's not he's not quarterback. He's engine that makes it go. So I'm happy with that. I think we definitely need him to play. Well. Well, look, I like I said rich we playing against Texas Tech. Everybody's talking about how physical how how imposing they are. But I mean, it's if we go back a couple of months, I mean at the beginning of the season in the non conference when we played those early games in the big ten with Purdue. I mean, Michigan. There were the national pundits Hussein Michigan deserves to be number one. And everything like that. How quickly they forget, right. How quickly we forget. No. It's always been what have you done for us lately? And we still winning we still playing. Well. Yeah, we lost a couple of games to stay. But how quickly they forget Jimmy believe me they wicked up now. Well, I hope so John beeline. He deserves all the credit. He's getting I think he deserves more credit. I think this team deserves a lot of credit because if you think about it there's a lot of guys I was watching the Texas Texas and AM Michigan game from last year. And look you had Wagner you had Dunkin Robinson you had mud. I mean, those guys are gone and yet you fill those holes and look at what they're in the same spot where they are. And everybody was saying after after Texas A and M destroyed North Carolina. They said there's no way Michigan's going to get through Texas, and we're right here where everybody's saying the same thing Texas texts in the way, and we just gotta play. We just got play basketball. You always good. And we had all those guys last year. We was in the Sweet Sixteen we don't have those guys now, and we still in the Sweet Sixteen it says a whole lot about Colby line. And we're kind of teacher he is as a basketball coach. And I think we're going to do fine. I, you know, I love when when they make us the underdogs when I hear this things in the mornings like, you know, we wanted to the best teams what are the best control team in all the college basketball. But people still believe me man that that motivates the players I think what really scares them rich. I and I'm talking about the national pundits. Michigan's offense hasn't do you? Remember when we played Villanova. They were hitting when they played North Carolina the way they were shooting there were shots were falling and everything I think people are afraid of Michigan's offense. But hey, John beeline has not changed his offense. He still. Everybody pretty much has the green light I-. I guess they had a question to the players yesterday. Does John like give you the green? I think he gives everybody the green light to shoot two three. If you have the opportunity to shoot it. Sudden those practices, and he encourages those guys to shoot three was so cool about it. If you a player, and your coaches telling you take the three big guys like I said like I said in practice, and I listened to him tell them shoot the ball when they practice shooting. They practice shooting threes. The big guys that's what I love about close beeline. Man what we need is. You know, he he gets confidence to his guys guys go out here, and they perform, and I think that's jacket. What we go tonight. Well, we got delayed game rich, are you? Okay. With that. We got the nine nine thirty nine game as opposed to the seven seven zero nine. Well, I'm all good. Lucky? You're lucky you. Guys. A bad. I'm gonna tell you just terrific, and they must schedule as always. I enjoy it. And so it's kinda cool, man. I love those guys. You're listening to Richard. Ralph Reed former power for for the university of Michigan. Richard. Let's talk about the overall tournament. There's no Cinderella's in this in this tournament in the NCAA tournament. I mean number ones have made it through the number twos and made it through. There's only Cinderella is the one team I'd say Oregon, but why would I say Oregon, it's a power five? I mean, they should have been there. But I mean, they they wouldn't have gotten into the tournament. Had. They not won the Pac twelve tournament. I hope no one sleeps org because they're not a Cinderella because they pretty good. They got along too. And like you say they will win the Pac twelve it's not gonna listen. You can't walk the warriors team. You just. The. Jay, look good. Well, it's going to be something. Those people Oregon. All right talk to me about the UCF game. Everybody. Let me say this. It would have blew up. Everybody's bracket had Duke loss, but got Johnny Dawkins. He's going against his his his former mentor. You got all reductions the son of the head coach on that team. And I mean, did they show the vulnerability of Duke? Well, laugh because you know, as much as I love Donny because you know, Johnny does all American with me. And he was on my team. I love and Johnny did. Well, but I gotta be honest. What would they show if you've got a seven foot six? I hear people say did. They show a plan. What plan? Do they win UCF where it's Donald although Sola? Point because nobody we. Jamie who stopped. It was in the game. There was nothing that they could do it. Was he got the ball? No matter how great Diane. And all those guys were no. Brassey jump into. No, he was jumping. He was raised up. And he was don't console who's dominating in there. No, he was he was a different if you take him off of that team. Because. The only person that impressed me was Aubrey to let people know that all restarted history. Michigan. Yeah. I understand that he went to play for his dad. I did that. But it wasn't like he wasn't a great player in Michigan. He was great. He was just like he shot last night the other night, he shot was when he played at Michigan. Exactly, you know. So no, I don't think they show biz. They had here really play who another year. He's going to be tough right now. He's on a first round pick. I guarantee you by next year. He will be. Wait a minute taco comes back. Wow. Junior. Another year. UCF? Yeah. Wow. All I know is rich. Everybody was talking about it. There's only one guy in the whole wide world out of all the people that did these these brackets the only one guy that got it. Right. He has a. Outside of that. Everybody's picked Duke to do what they do. But I like I said if UCF woulda whatever shock Duke, it would have been something else. But I mean, you made a great point. I mean, they got they they had the tallest guy in in in in college basketball. And that's how they dominated. Nobody else because any other team because they strongest die on it. There was nothing. Tacos all say, he will not miss. Diane williams. I heard that before the game. He did he did. And he didn't he didn't. But he did not duck taco. And yes, taco fall out the gate to the greatness as I. That's how I looked at it. So I mean. Do you take that with? I mean, Johnny dockings. Did he take that it used that and spin that does that become a recruiting tool for him almost? Hopefully that helps the whole lot you almost being do. But it also helps me like I said he'll have a great team next year as well. You know, and so they're going to be missing some pieces and Johnny pretty good talking. I heard him say that he'll be a great candidate Lee. See there's the thought I mean, I mean, you got a lot of guys that are on that on that. She's Jesse tree that when he leaves when he decided to leave and hang them up. There'd be a lot of consideration. You got a lot of guys. You got Tommy Tommy amateur still you got. Whoa. Joe? You got he's up. He's up at Marquette. You got you got some guys Johnny dockings. Like you said. So there's some guys there be there. Well, you know what? Whoever choose it's not going be shoes. That's the show. I know be. Because nobody likes Chris Christie Leitner. Be Christian regularly apply for that job. That's how it dude. I gotta ask you this question. I know I've been asking all former basketball players. I got I'm not this is not again a slap at Sparty. But I gotta do this the way coach Izzo came at history. Were you okay with that? Because I've seen it. And I also had kids is. Oh, yeah. Knowing guys who played for. They say that's how he is. And that's why I say he's players play the way they do form with me. I know how it look. It looked crazy. I understand that. You know, he looked like he challenge the kid. But if I'm a pair. No, it's not a good deal. You know, I'm I'm I'm not appreciate it. But as a player, I kind of understand it because like I said some guys who. Like that for years, and he changed you've never heard of anybody coming out saying anything negative about his own in that manner. So. If you don't like it. But as a player, it's okay for me. Well, there's a lot of players former players that have come out in defense of Tom Izzo, even the current players on that team came out in defensive coaches Okaz. That's who he is. And how he is. I think the universe Michigan State University. They even said, that's that's Tom Izzo. That's who he is. He wears his courage on his sleeve, he wears his emotions, and even even Aaron Henry said that that's how coach Izzo is. That's what he expected. But at the time, it just didn't look the obstinate and look right on television. And to what you said rich. That's why I wanted to ask you as a parrot. You don't you? Don't you? Don't want your kid. Don't don't do that to my kid right right now because you. I'm sorry. I see this man yelling at my job. And I don't know why he's doing what the player in Hawaii was doing it in everybody around the why he was doing it. And that's why I'm so bad. But guys who knows no, man. I don't think they really was. That upset about it. Well, look, I I didn't think when I thought of it I old school coach. I mean, that's the way I thought I thought you know, he's got enough. He's got enough time in their at Michigan State University. People have seen him. It's not it's it's not anything new that you would see in in Tom Izzo. So that's why I gave him his past. But if if a new coach comes in and he's got his finger and yelling threatened like your punch your kid. Hey happened. Not nowadays. Universities to get rid of you quick. We'll see. The new guys aren't going to do that is oh guys. Those guys who have been in the world man for twenty five thirty years. How would you say tool? They've been doing that only years they've been successful as a parent. I hope you would know a little bit more about him. Before you send your child..

"I've seriously mean this this only one of the player in recent times that that that was such a package that present the people to make refereeing nightmare with Shaquille O'Neal because he was big and strong and also had pretty good feet, and he created so much contact, and so many times it was who's who's initiated it. And who's he was a nightmare to Zion. Williamson is exact same thing. He plows a head. He's got sturdy, but not particular play. I honest, I think right away. I said, oh that that should be a charge in my head. But it won't be in. They didn't call it. Okay. Yes. I do think it was a charge. And how about the moment of grace at the end of the scamming so much happened in the last two minutes of the game. And we have now talked about most of the place. Okay. And BJ Taylor. It looks like he wins the game a kid who wanted to stay home and put UCF on the map and nearly did in the biggest possible way against the biggest name in college basketball. But how about the moment not only did this include a kid Aubrey Dawkins who grew up learning to play basketball in the Duke, Jim because his dad was a former Duke star was sitting next to Mike chefs and years my, and then you can how that scene with with Johnny and Mike at the end of that game. There's so much graceless stuff that goes on in this tournament. And there's so much stuff that makes you wince. And that that Mike nearly choked up talking about Johnny dockings when the game was over chefs key. Consistently when his team gets lucky. He says so and I like that about and there are a lot of coaches just can't bring themselves to say that the other teams should have won the game. And that was the first thing out of his mouth, and he said they played well enough to win, and we got lucky, and that's that's the summation of because when you've got two backboards to eliminate a team and both times the ball just rims out. Yeah. You got lucky and remember Duke is supposed to win the game UCF is not. So for them to even be in it at that point is a bit of a loss for Duke and victory for UCF. It's not a moral victory. Doesn't make them feel any better. But the fact that it was that close at the end. In the in the larger picture does make you question. Why was why was Duke in this thing? Now, my is someone asked me earlier today was doing radio program. Do you think that this means, you know, their shaky the rest of the way my experience is it's exactly the opposite. When you have a close game in the second round. Or even the first round it tends to propel you in the tournament. If you win it not to trip you up. It doesn't give you doubt. I've watched this happened on the Michigan runs five had one of those kind of games in the second round. There have been UCLA the nine nineteen nine team. Same kind of thing. There's one game along the way that it's like we survived that one, and it somehow propels you forward. Now critics could say what was Duke dominant Duke with Zion Williams greatest player doing in a shootout in the final minutes with UCF. I don't know if you guys. That is talented is they are as talented as they are. Okay. They still put four freshman out there, and and can Bob you can be talented and thin at the same time. They had well, we're guys scores. Seventy two out of seventy seven points. They brought to guys they brought to guys off the bench in this game. First of all I felt going into the tournament that though I did pick them in my quote unquote bracket, it was very shakily because they are vulnerable and vulnerability will not go away anytime soon, they are still not a reliable outside shooting team. And they are thin as Mike us just diluted. Then I think seventy. How many points all two out of seventy seventy seven. Okay. Number one, number two. Mitch they struggled stumbled around against Gardner Webb. They were trailing in the first half. They they are far from invincible far from it. And they're vulnerable still. They're vulnerable number one. I believe believe that..

"Six long months and one hundred sixty two meaningless games. Major league baseball is back March madness. Otherwise known as chalk Auburn basketball NCW investigation. Collision course, SAMA Puzo greatest female across player of all time. Kevin Durant said it's not odd at all for the warriors to lose by thirty five points at home. No, Katie, it's totally normal. But the two-time defending champion to lose by thirty five points to a team that is fifteen games below five hundred at seven thirty on the road. You know, what's on how bad your team is without Steph curry and how good your team is without you. You know, what else is on you? Oh, what happened there one last thing? Please come to the Knicks. A tradition. Unlike any other the Bill self Ciocca route. Bill self is in the Basketball Hall of fame. I demand a recount Brock thanked everyone for accepting him for who he is. When you could sit at the time, and who we actually is how the hell did that happen? I think we all know which way we'd go if we had the better lives on whether or not Tom Brady was pissed that he wasn't mentioned in rob gronkowski's retirement post. The most shocking thing to happen. This weekend was gronk retirement post being grammatically. Correct. Was it all of it? I think there was something at the end that was a little screwed up. I think I think the last sentence. I didn't read till the end. How does Bruce Pearl a guy with he wins a national championship? We'll have it vacated within five years remain, so lovable. I'm not sure how but I'm fairly certain the college football playoff committee had something to do with UCF losing to fifteen hours later, and I'm still sick for UCF rate, raw and real interview by coach K after the game. "But there's something about the fact that has Jay kit that just gives gravitas to what he says. And if he has a he has good supporting staff who are good exit knows, you can sure up where you're deficient at that is another I guess element of the Luke Walton demise. If he is to be gone, his assistant coaches didn't necessarily while anyone they didn't cover up his and fish deficiencies if anything supporting group for. For him as opposed to supporting group for the team success. If that makes eight mixing it does. And I think you're right. I think that the Xs and os. We've seen other guys that come into head coaching roles. And it's usually more guys that are little greener than Jason Kidd, Jason Kidd has some experience. But if you have an assistant coach that can be your ex that's fine. That's not unprecedented. The the part that I wonder about that great players. Oftentimes, do not make great coaches. And because they they get it on a level. That's almost just it's incredibly intuitive. That this is what this is how you're supposed to play. Just do it the right way. Well, Jason Kidd knows what the right way is a great example of this Ted Williams greatest hitter of all time. Arguably was arguably the worst manager in the history of major league base- players hated him. Nobody knew what he wanted from him. Because he just well, you know, I used to like do we're not Ted Williams. I don't know how to do it like that. I can't do it like that. And I'm always I don't wanna say skeptical, but whenever you have a player that comes in is just an extraordinarily talented player a transcendent player Jason kit is that it. Don't care that you can do it. I need to know that you can teach it that teaching it is more important than doing it. And I don't know if Jason Kip Kanter can I don't know why I think when when it comes to someone like Jason Kidd whose entire career has been defined with helping others. I think there's something there that tells me he knows how to coach guy that he won't be critical of the offense in terms of passing because as the Rossa standards right now, he's got a guy in a top ten insists on his squad. And he's got a young budding point guard. Lonzo ball who sees to the floor fairly well convincing guys to pass the ball. Make smart passes. Probably won't be the issue. The issue will likely be when it comes to Zo anyway, the motor no into kospi be on the attack. And I think that is something that he can encourage Zota do and doesn't necessarily as something. That's so far to reach that he won't be able to get him to play up to that level. Rob gronkowski is calling. It an NFL career retiring. What does it mean for the patriots offense? We'll tell you next. G O P P N. Do do you know this? I've heard it his Dan Ross. I'm coming out. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I knew that. But this is like a remix something like it is. It is. Twenty two years ago today. Life after death tain? Twenty two years. Math. Can't be right. Nineteen ninety-seven. That's twenty two years. Hey, you know, what I like we can note. What did you not see Johnny dockings kid in the tournament yesterday? Doc, helix to while he's in college not that old. Not that old. We did some math during the break. I have twelve Sweet Sixteen teams you have ten. Yes. So it's close. Close. I'm I'm gonna concern about my my road to the final four though. Will you have Kentucky plan Kentucky in the next round? That's a problem, I fix that. Didn't. Yeah. I did their picked Houston doesn't. It's not what that says. Well, as you know, we need copy editing and have our copy editors notice that when I thought out the first time, they wanna notice had give you the east selection that you left blank that you just filled just feel because you had the two right teams in the Sweet Sixteen. So that one I'm all right with but you can't just retroactively ratio Kentucky versus Kentucky pick. All right, fine. I don't need it on a seven..

"Oh, my the NC double A tournament is here. What a moment that disappointment. And the elation all in one fell do colds onto beat UCF Audrey dock ins going up for the tip in it seemed like forever that it was rolling around the rim and somehow someway, Mike chefs get troops hang on and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in in the NCAA tournament. There were tears all around in the UCF locker room afterward. Johnny dockings was talking to him his troops. And you could hear literally the sobbing in the background on the microphone, and then might yourself ski just said that these guys they deserve to win. Yes. Zion's going to be the number one pick in the NBA draft. But it would be hard to argue that reductions son Johnny dockings who transferred from the university of Michigan to play for his dad at UCF was not the. The best player on the court in this game going for thirty two points. One of the best if not the best game of his college career, but Zayn Williamson and the rest of this Duke squad getting done. So we move on to the Sweet Sixteen now and all sixteen betting favorites. One in the round of thirty two. It's the first time since two thousand nine that all the twelve seats have advanced fourteen of the top sixteen teams in the season ending a people have moved on. So if you pick chalk in your NCAA tournament brackets, then you're feeling pretty good right now is that interesting to you, are you are you more into it. Now that the top twelve teams all made it does that justify the committee for selecting these guys and they moved on. Or would you rather see two seven and eight three tens twelve. I feel like the Cinderella's are more compelling than chalk. However, I. Think this sets up to make it an unbelievable Sweet Sixteen right? You wanna see the best matchups does Virginia Tech beat Duke for a second time this season. Obviously, they didn't have Williamson. The first time around Virginia Tech was without their point guard. So I think the matchups are awesome. However, the Cinderella stories are we're about right? The George Mason's of the world. Well, we'll ask year oil Chicago's edible sister. "I mean, these guys are best friend you there. You witness the FaceTime. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Their best man at each other's wedding. Right. That's probably talk to him three or four times during the course of the weekend he is Sparty through and through so much. So that we were watching some some tournament games at a sports bar on Friday. And there were a couple of Michigan's day guys in front of us who've recognized mooch in we're kind of eavesdropping on the conversation a little bit to Mets and mooch was kind enough to take a picture with them. That's great did many people. But a lot of basketball. I it was always kind of background for Ryan till I got back germ San Antonio on Sunday morning. And I gotta catch my vol's which was the early game here on the west coast. But we're talking eight twelve sixteen hours a minimum of bass. Yes. So it's it's one of the greatest weekends of the year. There's sixteen games each Thursday and Friday eighty on Saturday and Sunday to get us down to the sixteen teams that we have left. I probably was playing golf this weekend both days. So I'd rub it in rub it in golf tournament. Played terrible. And then got it back yesterday. I probably saw of the forty eight bits and pieces of forty of the games. I'm guessing there's nothing better than the first weekend of March madness. Well, when you look at who's advanced to the Sweet Sixteen I would say the committee did a pretty good job of seeing all twelve seats all top twelve c are in. It's basically chalk for the most part, you have organiser twelve seed Auburn of five the only teams in the Sweet Sixteen not expected to be there based on seating. However, however, if you follow the betting lines, some people in America do all sixteen favorites are in the Sweet Sixteen that is bananas. Isn't that nuts as nuts because Oregon, of course, a twelve but they play Irvine betting favorite in that game and fan thing with good Auburn five seed, Kansas four-seat, Auburn was the betting favorite. So all sixteen favorites. One on now. He even though that's the first time that's happened since the eighties when they expanded to sixty four teams. I don't think there was any lack of excitement if you saw that Duke UCF game. And I'm not somebody. I grew up in Maryland. I grew up in ACC country. I went to Tennessee a huge SEC fan. I'm not a do cater. I I actually like seeing Duke play a love that brand of basketball. But man, I was rooting for UCF. Oh, did you have you have Tennessee winning probably in your bracket? Of course. Of course. But I just I I thought they were such a great story and Aubrey Dawkins played the game unbelie life, the story of Johnny darkens being the head coach there, and you could you could almost see you could see the look it wasn't a disappointment. That makes chef ski hat. It was relief after the wind. But I feel like he was truly disappointed for Johnny dockings and those kids from UCF because they just played their hearts out..

"I think something happened yesterday that I haven't seen happen. A whole lot in my lifetime. America where you really rooting for Duke yesterday. America. Did you do that? They were rooting within brackets, Dan. That's what they were rooting for. I wasn't. I wasn't. I had them in my bracket. And I was still rooting for UCF. And if it hadn't been for three late non calls UCF woulda won. So we're going to do just what we did in football two years ago. And we're gonna declare ourselves national champions here in Orlando. Okay. All right. That's your Landau civic pride show there. You know? But look it was tough. And and I'm not saying there were calls both ways but three late non calls. I mean, zion's last basket that's charge. And it was interesting people are so on the Duke bandwagon that even the guys on CBS afterwards. You're saying, yeah, he probably charged, but you can't make that call in that situation. So they get that non call in. Barrett. Pushes the guy in the back on the free throw rebound to take the lead. And then BJ Taylor gets fouled on the last shot. Just give him one of those three calls and they beat Duke standings. L at plenty of opportunities. At added missed alley Ube, and that was a huge one that was a huge wad. And if you UCF yet, you still have to grab that rebound and they had two chances at the end there to finish the game. I mean a bunny at the end there when well no not a bunny. That's that would have been really really tough tip in. It's just because it got so close that it looked like they had the opportunity but Taylor had a great drive, and that's a cl- look that of all of them. That's a clear foul on the last shot and those guys just swallowed the whistle. It's tough when you play teams like Duke, you know, you'll get a good, you know, it'll be fair all the way you get in those last few seconds. You're not going to get a call against Duke when you're UCF was a bunny, STAN. No. It was not. I love the fact that UCF had that giant taco fall wandering around disrupting everybody like not jumping standing there. He's holding onto the rim. Just standing there. Then just like giant tacos Bobin can do that too. Right. Stan. He could just touch the rim while he's standing there. Yeah. But this guy's about three inches taller than Boba. I mean, it's amazing. I mean, he's he's something. And look I thought Johnny dockings did a great job game plan. They just took everybody other than Barrett in reddish on the perimeter and literally didn't guard them, I mean at all just invited them to shoot. And I think they set up a pretty good game plan for the for the tournament teams played against Duke going forward literally didn't guard him Duke as a horrible shooting team. There's not one real good three point shooter on that entire roster and Johnny dachshund's just played the odds and did that and Duke was clearly uncomfortable. Let's ease up on the coach praise. Everybody knows you gotta led to shoot because they're bad shooting team. This isn't some like Ben like that. The players are actively challenging and pointing players. I dare you to take that. That was pretty cool. What you saw. That's what they did. They literally stayed all the way back in the lane and those were warm-up shots. They were giving them. It wasn't just you know, we're going to play with a with a little bit of a cushion on guys. No, no, no. You can have whatever shot you want. Go ahead step into its shoot a warm up shot and let them go. Now. I haven't seen that. And I haven't seen every Duke game. But I've seen people obviously prioritize trying to take away the pain. But I've seen nothing as extreme as what I saw yesterday. And I thought they did a great job. But they're the only team take it away the paint the guy seven seven that's a good point. Very good wear. Duke is ranked three point shooting in division. One. Did you see where they are numerically? You wanna take a guess where they're ranked in division one in three point shooting twelfth. Now, they're down in the three. Eight hundred. They are three hundred thirty nine. I didn't know there were that many division. One team doesn't get any better done today. "That's all there. It goes you find that from the Pete Franklin file their spider that was too good now. Just right here on the hot keys readily available. Very good. He Franklin up yours. Dallas though, one of my favorite the Duke central Florida game moving on you play. The nasa. One of the greatest that you. I mean, if you see a man if kids need to know what March man I made my kid. I didn't follow the sadness of general too much. I'd watch. I'm talking about the sadness of a generation that won't watch March madness because they're playing fortnight. Yeah. That's unacceptable. I had to literally like I was punishing him poly. Hey, kid Declan put down the console on. You have to watch these last three minutes. Now, he did he came down. And he got excited his wishes, but I had to tell him I had to tell him you. And I we watched Villanova, Georgetown. We were just watching him. We watch magic and Larry Bird. We were just watching it. I was I didn't yell at us down. The console come watch. Remember watching Isaiah Thomas at the spectrum dude with Indiana in eighty one the final four not the second round. But I had to tell him. I said kid if you're gonna know life, you gotta know March madness in that is that's like one of those exhibit a March madness games an overall one seed with one of the most exciting players so far. To go down. And I mean. And they were gonna go down. This thing wasn't even this thing was central Florida was going to win the game. The signature play was I on going at my guy taco, dude. My I was feeling UCF in such a profound way he turned to three point play. But they're still. Back. We miss the he writes, he missed it. That's right and RJ Barrett. Did he shove the kid? I don't know if he did now, and then a controversy to a ball hitting the rim. Did it hit? What about the blown alleyoop seventy s avenue experience? They end up. Yeah. Marcus Thompson did a great job in the ethic. He said he did his five observations because Slater was off yesterday. And instead of like, you know, Durant taking only six shots, you know, flushing Saturday night down the toilet. He devoted one of them to how the warriors watched the Duke central Florida game because he said it was mania warrior locker room. Everybody was going nuts Quinn cook. Of course was do. So. Yeah, he said the only other guy rooting for Duke was Shaun Livingston because he actually signed with Duke before declaring pro okay, everybody else was rooting for central Florida any detailed a moment where when it was seventy four to seventy central Florida when they tried that and he blew it. And then the kid came down and hit a three to make a seventy four. And. Hoop. Draymond went nuts. Too Durant saying slim, they just lost the game. And Durant said, no, no, no. They got time. He goes, no, slim. They lost the game. Make the bounce fast. Make the layup I'm telling you. And then when it all played out at the end the ball, he said Draymond walk by and said, slim, I told you don't do an F alley. Oop. By the way. I think the bigger lesson. Here is not how to execute with the game on the line or if he should have gone alleyoop, you traditional layup. I think it's a re revelation that day calls Durant, slim all over that. I agree slim. I agree. I was pulling for you said, even though I have as my winner of my break. I didn't care about that. I just want to see these kids win. No, no, first of all many interesting dimensions to it. First of all Johnny dockings when he was at Stanford was the most passive forgettable coach we've had here since probably get the laugh track out the most passive forgettable coach here since well, why king Jones over at Cal. Aunt. I've just I've just saying college basketball lately for Callan Stanford. No, Jared has isn't doing nothing down there. Johnny docking was invisible. Cows been a mess. I mean, we're only Randy Bennett's gotta going. But anyway, the point being is that Johnny dockings for him to have that kind of performance from his team. And I had no thank God for Platte Plassey sent in the whole breakdown on the kid Aubrey his son who scored thirty two ice game. He was the kid who did the tip in. I know. So he would have had the here it is. He says he graduated from Palo Alto high in two thousand thirteen awesome kids at bay area kid. Yeah. He played there with Keller Chris now at Tennessee playing quarterback de went to prep school for a year. Then he went to Michigan for two years transferred loss last year due to a shoulder surgeries is fifth year in college. He scored thirty two yesterday and tipped that ball off the rim as Johnny Dawkins, his son, and then the whole thing of Dawkins being coach K's, I explained to my Candice, so many factors. Coach K was hugging. Johnny together. You know? Yeah. So and your boy taco do. Oh, man. He was out there. You know? What though we played a good game? I mean, he really did his presence was felt no question. Yeah. He's on a couple of times he had those just basically tip toe dunks. Do this guy standing on his toes spider Dunkin the ball, but him fouling out was maybe low key. The biggest thing the entire huge those last two plays the RJ Barrett. Put back and the male put back at the end. Maybe he's there for one absolutely right guys. Like that man. You're only game plan would be to just go at guys like that. And make them foul. You Zion was doing and then man it was just so shades of here I go again, dude shades of nineteen ninety-five shades. Of course, many memories come through. When you win a championship. You have a game like that. And everybody's seen the highlight of Titus Edney going length of the court to lay it in against Missouri. Same deal, we were a one seed, and we were down one in the second round to Missouri and Edney went the distance and laid it in and we never looked back won the championship. So for Duke history would tell you that that was their dodged bullet. What does it also tell us at Duke is beatable right now. I mean and. And by the way, just shout out to the central Florida's school. Because remember there that was his football team. That was undefeated. They lost their starting quarterback sadly like late late late in the season. And I forget who they played but they played a big school in a bowl game. And they they got a chance to know. They had a chance to win late. They came back, but they didn't have the real quarterback. So you gotta wonder Enzi Milton. You're talking about her. Yeah. They're playing the ball game. They were mocked because two years ago. They went undefeated and said they won the national championship in everybody has mocked them forever for that. But I'll give you that. I thought that they got rolled in that game. They were losing badly. They came back with a with a flurry here. Let me find it for anyway, we'll find it was great and other than that. By the way, all twelve top three one through three seeds in all four brackets excitement that way, although Purdue beat Nova was pretty cool to see I thought that was a pretty big one. Yeah. Doodo produce the higher seed and everything watch out for I told you man, big ten Purdue. All these fools watch out, Murph. The upside of that though is that you get really good Sweet Sixteen games like they're all really good very competitive. It was a central Florida Auburn they they beat them thirty four. Okay. I know that can't be right. That was the year that they I'm sorry. The order. There were losing LSU forty two thirty two. The ball at the end of the game. And I think the kid through a pick or something like forty two thirty two. Yes. Yes. Yes. Very good job by that school, man. Johnny Dawkins in the locker room that that seach found. The kids play for us to sounds. We gotta play on the other side. We gotta play the Kerr Gettysburg address and the entire I've never heard sobbing. Like that man. It was incredibly add stuff grown men. Well, can you call a college get a grown, man? I wouldn't say there is not quite young adults new young man von young man, Murph. Talk hoops. It's a fun part of the year where college converges with NBA both have the spotlight at the end of the day. It's just ball. And I love it. Yes. And that's a good little segue. Because yes. This is the beautiful time where we get the best basketball both worlds NBA teams are finally starting to look like themselves because it's March they're turning into try to tweet themselves for the play offs get them. Right. But when it comes to March, we all have is on the college game. So even though we're the NBA insiders we're going to start off talking about what went down today in a couple of games are in the bugs. But I in progress, we've got Virginia Tech up on liberty. We've got Virginia only up nine half, y'all. They little six six times. At least they didn't. Listen, the first let's not jinx them as I'm in Houston, and they're playing Ohio State that game just started. But Tennessee locked in a win North Carolina. Locked in a win Texas Tech when we still have Oregon UC Irvine, but Duke Duke game, you heard the sound Johnny Dawkins on his name is Aubrey all his name. Dhabi Duke got a huge win. And honestly UCF. I mean, some people have said like it was bears to win coach Johnny dockings coats the game of his life. Now, I know coach Johnny Dawkins. I know I know I know I know opera when he was just a little young buck. So when I was at Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins was coaching are men's team. And we always had those ships crossing in the night, and I will get to the full story of my love for Johnny Dawkins and his family and Aubrey who was a gym rat. Literally we'd finished our practices. Ann Arbor would be in the corner, you know, trying to get sides up or just watching he's a gym rat. So I'm so glad he had his moment was the thirty five against Duke. Like, I know he's twenty four or about to be twenty four. But nonetheless, what he did was huge. But this story is clearly Duke gets a big win in the tournament over UCF, the story lines between coach K, you know, the teacher coach, Johnny doc ends. The poop. Pupil and then on top of it because Johnny doc in. What is it? If he might be the leading scorer all time. He might be up there in in dukes program history, obviously NBA, pedigree, pedigree, his son pipers team. Plus we got taco seven six we got Zion. I mean, this was one of those back March madness games for the ages. Bobby did you enjoy it as much as I did? I thought it was a great game. I mean, just from take away the evaluation part of it when you're looking at the duplex Bobby pretty much just to be a fan and watch it and really having no rooting rooting interest in the ability to have Zion. Make mean, huge place down the stretch. I mean big time plays. Taco fall for fouling out at the end, certainly hurt the Baruch put back. I think the big play was certainly the central Florida three. And what they missed an alley oop or the fumbled the alleyoop and it came down and hit a three. But yeah, I mean, it was a it was a great, and it was a great college basketball game. And unfortunately, one one team goes home and the other team advances. Yeah. You know, as your watch you got to celebrate. And coach case set. Passed. It was a magnificent performance, Bobby Dawkins. Coach's son finished with thirty two points. But he's got to be haunted by the last few plays in what we call winning time in the game. In terms of exactly what you mentioned Bobby that was an alleyoop that he simply just mishandled and coming back down the other the other way, Duke, it's a basket. That's what puts it within one. At that point. You could have arguably put the game away if you convert that and then you're in a position where Duke trails by three twenty seconds winding down Zion. Takes the ball. Steadies the moment attacks the ribbon goes at taco fall. Giving him his fifth foul taking him out of the game. And you're still trailing by a point. Mrs that free throw, but Aubrey Dawkins failed to get the block out RJ Barrett gets the puck back and the rest is history. I just I've never seen as you guys. I'm sure got a chance to see the replay Aubrey Dawkins kits to the glass for the put back in again. It's him. I've never seen that bold. Nocco win off the glass at the exact angle that a layup goes down just somebody outside of the higher power. That clearly is on the floor impacted this on. It's crazy. We'll how we always say. It's the gods the Spalding God's word. God's the basketball is just would not let you be great. But we are going to be great tonight here on MBA insiders on ESPN radio and ESPN app. I'm approaching they'll go McKay here with Jordan cornet here with Bobby marks. And we're talking about obviously, March madness. Because even though we're the NBA inside is this has grant implications. Because these guys the Duke trio, we don't see them very soon in April or. Their careers are destined for the NBA. Now, we talked Duke taking down UCS. Let's switch over to Tennessee who played Iowa. Now. I was having a very nice brunch. With a couple of my friends, very comfortable. I saw the score twenty point lead was not caring and eight Moslem, my friend had chicken and waffles. What did I is little jambalaya mix up and Tennessee lost a twenty five point lead? And I was like what is happening here. The game aside OT now, of course, is Ron Admiral Scofield of Tennessee because he is the iconic dunker he is the face of that team, and he's a heart and soul. But the crazy thing is I was like was he in foul trouble. Because I was trying to catch. You know, I was trying to be a good friend. But also keep my eye on the out of a realized why he could have been playing down the stretch, but he didn't. And it was interesting. He had an interesting take on why he was on the bench during clutch time. Take a listen. Early. In the second half. I was going to go rhythm. It's just me. And I had to sit for periods of time, which knows how to have me a little cold. But no for me. I just wanted to guys that were in the game to stay in the game. You know, I didn't want them to keep putting me in and out and taking guys over in the fight for most of the game messing up the rhythm. So. I made the sacrifices the bench conference game. He did an amazing job. That was Admiral Scofield is Tennessee talking about why he was on the bench down the stretch and shadow to you like you are a tremendous huge big person. Because in the NCAA tournament be cool with being on the bench now understand their nerves, and I get that position. And and on top of it like seeing your teammate doing. Well, that's true team player Tennessee, eventually pulled it out in OT. So clearly Admiral knows guys and is here for his guys. And that's probably why they want. But man, Bobby like I was just watching what's going on here. I'm glad they pulled out the win because I'm here for the you know when I'm watching the men's game. I want the best teams to advance at least into the Sweet Sixteen and stuff like that. Right. But I was just surprised that Admiral heats he he took it the right way, in my opinion. You know, sitting down down the stretch he didn't force himself out there. It was number one on his mind. The way I honestly thought he failed out of the game. I'm trying to figure out like where is he? Now. We heard the explanation here. You know, it's going to be interesting today is that when if he if he comes out? Draft. You know, that's going to be a question that teams will ask him when the interview in Chicago. That will be a hot topic and up some teams will phrase it differently in some will put his heels to the fire here as far as you want to be out there when it's winning time. There's a there's a there's a kind of a line to draw when you want to sacrifice for the betterment of your team. Or do you want to be out there when you know when you're kinda get thrown into deep end and things when you're dealing with a little bit adversity here in. Yeah. I get it. I would have. I mean, he's one of the best better players in the SEC. You know on. Yeah. On the floor at the end of the game considering that you're just blown at twenty five point lead. He didn't have it on me. Mean you're in you're fighting. You're a two seater fight for everything here. So I get it. But yeah, I would've I would've I would've Jordan. I'd like to see him on the court. They're just as a guy who's been dominant all season long. Like, look, I get it. There's been as we look at somebody's NBA organizations. They've kind of been broken down by egos getting it away. So you want a guy who lacks the ego like Admiral didn't that situation? However. Necessarily feel about a guy who had seventeen in the first half is one of the better players in the country saying guys, I should not be out there because of foul trouble get that fifth foul then and then remove yourself from the game, let the basketball rules dictate that. But there's a part of me that feels a little bit. Like, I don't know, man. Like, I love that. You let your ego to the side a love that you put team I but at the same time, I want a guy that wants to be out there too. So I know it's the unpopular decision because it's a lot of love going admirals. Wait as it should. But there's a part of me that's looking sideways like was the moment too. Big. Let let me break it down for you. Let me back up. Athlete in that position. You know with my team. And if I was in Alabama like that he's giving you the right answer. But in his head he's like not enough AM. I'm just gonna take him off the team right now if he's sitting down with Chicago, Bobby I could guarantee he's like I want to be out there. But I knew then that was not my moment to talented coach, but I can guarantee you Abbas profile would probably have wanted to be out there. But he understand he was getting coaching into team sports. So I'll say what you can't Admiral future stock next time just.

"Also, Virginia taken liberty have just tipped off a couple of minutes ago out in San Jose. It's a four to hokies lead. But for now finished you out in Columbia UCF leading by two Brennan gardening. Coach John Thompson. We're tied at seventy. Ziad has thirty docking for UCF has thirty. This is like a heavyweight prizefight three twenty two to go. The fuck court Taylor with on the big board logo. Guarded by reddish. Jeff Passover left wing to Griffin. Doc, it's dockage drifts baseline dry fade away shot. God how tough was that? He does it again. You too. He's got thirty two. Very special. That is a proud father Johnny dockage over on the side coaching Garrett stops at the free throw line inside sided delory. A delory ace spins tries to pass it out and throw it away. They save Zion. Pushed over Aubrey Dawkins. And it's the third on the Duke stars. All. Three thousand barrier with your situation. Two four six go to go. Stops moving. Knows what his job is right there. UCF two point lead in the ball to thirty eight to go down to the nitty gritty here in Columbia. All the right way gets dockets dockets baseline drive this time, he doesn't shoot. It gets it up to Griffin. Baixa three back to the time. DJ Taylor dot on the shot clock Taylor guided by reading taco fall comes it sets a screen Taylor goes the other way for shoot Taylor. Looks up at the jackpot goes to the baseline fadeaway jumper. No good. Rebound taco slams it. The original shot never hit the shot clock. And they're gonna look at this over on the monitor Burke's, right? I think he is too. But again, the ball bats around taco fall picked it up dumped it to put UCF up four for the moment. But they're gonna take another look at it with two. Yeah. I'm with you. Very surprised charcoal. Picked it up. We're getting another look at it right now over here at the monitor. Let's see. Oh, y'all do it might be hit the back of the real he shot up from the side of the mighty hit the back of the rim. This is going to be tough get one more look at it. Boy, that's almost so close that. I don't know if they're going to have an angle to change it. The officials burn Harris, Brian O'Connell, Paul cells taking a peek. What a crucial call to this game. Look turning over. Side. It's so funny because they're showing the replays on the big screen and with one look UCF answer saying it hits the real fans for the next segment did not this is tough to tell. This is one of the hardest. Pulse. Have seen in a while. Looking at the world. I was just gonna say that. That's they're looking at each other say, oh boy. How do we make this call? My close if it hit the rim. It raised it grazed. If it did hit the rim. They keep the call that it's seventy four seventy UCF which you oh nine to play at seventy two seventy. Everybody's nervous. Anticipation right now. Whatever happened referral electron takes you that long to make a decision. Six. See all their frustrating. I did I wasn't role was John Thompson. You're the big issue. Guys started this whole television craze back in the day. So we'll just blame you can blame you. But both coaches are kind of getting a free time out out of this look at those guys. And they've looked at it. It is so close they looking for the back door. The job was for BJ Taylor on the baseline shot it over the rim. The question is did it raise the rim. Barely so one referee stuff's out over. I'll I'll watch you to be blamed for the Paul cells folded Brian O'Connell to take a deep data. UCF fans cannon UCF their players imploring them to do. So do fans chanting. Let's go do. Mark. Trip to the Sweet Sixteen thousand allied UCF has never been there. Tomorrow shows you have to make a decision. Coaches for us. Just for the sake of person. Such a big call as far as the Frisch disconcerted. I think it's been excellent. That's a tough tough. They ruled again that had hit the rim. The shot clock. Reset the ball bounced around a taco fall. And he slammed it down to put UCF four four. Now, they're taking a peek at okay, they're done looking at it. Now, the three officials are Hudler. I love it. Does not look conclusive. They're going to count the basket. So they're going to say it did hit the rim and seventy four seventy. Ago. UCF dance goes nuts fans beside themselves. Sorry. He's out there door. And so is taco fall do Craig's it up with RJ Barrett. Between the circles takes the left wing pass for the corner. Jones for three missed it. Weak side. Rebound a UCS Griffith Griffin up ahead with a two one loves. We would have had a slab right through his hands and gets it. Wow. Now a three quarter. Real. One forty two. Building is up. Term the worm. James header crosses the timeline. Dribbles. How the midcourt logo his team applaud doc? It's contested jumper in and out from eighteen thought he got hit on the call a chance to regain the lead. One fifteen to go there. It drives inside against taco. Fall shoots it up. No. Tried to put it back up to free throws. Javadi? Berko? I do not think it was. Instead, they got it on Terrell. Our tacos stays in the game with four fouls. Really? Four. Girl europe. Delory fifty eight percent shooter to live. I won don't go. Seventy four seventy three UCF leading the Duke blue devils the top overall seed east region action at Columbia laureate. Takes a deep breath. Dribbles looks up. Fly short taco rebound UCF has. Browse. UCF one minutes ago with a one point lead try to pull off the starter. Midcourt Terrell alad holding the ball at the waist gives it over to Taylor right way guarded by Taylor goes baseline gets fouled from fifteen but Ziad is just picked up his four personal fouls. Two free throws coming with forty five seconds to play. Everybody was waiting. Hit the rim and off this is this is all about is both of these teams or player emotional aspect of the whole theater. Hits the free throw the nights are up to. Taylor is a seventy seven percent foul shooter. He's been good at the line at I eighty one more coming Jake free journals. He is he lets it act. By three forty five seconds to go. Court there. It takes you to the right wing to Jones Jones up top does. I Williamson twenty to thirty three to play. Delory a shot clock is twenty eight seconds remaining. Do. Cammarata with it. To does have one time out. But they're not using it. Zayat on the left wing, fifteen seconds left. Siad dry spans. This ballgame free. Fourteen point four. Suckered second layer is amazing. He doesn't stop. Amazing how he absorbed that contact and hung in the air coal is put it in. Then now you've got Ziad Williamson with thirty two points. He's five of six at the line. But first Johnny docking has to sell out taco fall. He's gonna bring back in college. Smith. Tacos gave is over. The question is taco sees it over the senior could go to the bench for the final time. Fifteen point six rebounds, seven six center. This is. Fourteen point four two similar the free throw the try to tie it sixty five percent shooter. What's up lots of? Yes. Their final timeout is seven point seven to go. With a one point lead off the office of rebounded. Stick backed by RJ barracks. And that's what you've got list free throw. But they aggressively got. After no. You have to lose about being aggressive clock is short so boxer. Now, you gotta be aggressive. Barris able to secure it put it in. So now if you are Johnny Dawkins took your last time out seven point seven seconds all the clock. Your son has thirty two points or you're drawn something up for him. Well, probably is the first option based on. But you got gotta take a look out and see what you have right now. Obviously. When you wanted to get it. Craciun? Are that is true? I don't know seven seconds ago, the seven point seven in pretty good shape. He worked with the referees. Don't wanna decided Greenwich racial right there. You look at the time outs. Duke has one UCF now. With none Duke. Tim team fouls. UCF eight. If they do go to Aubrey doc is what a story line if he has the last shock here in this game with his team down one Scherzer or premature. The only thing about this. To the officials. Don't wanna be in a position to decide the basketball. I think right now. Reheard debris heard the phrase. They were mistreat throw you get the bowl. UCF breaks the huddle. And do Frakes their huddle. Now, they added four tenths of a second to the clock. So there's eight point one related sectors. Rugged enough term though, the top seed Duke with a seventy seven seventy six lead UCF the side of the front court out of will trigger. Everybody in the building scanning all eighteen thousand Allen looking gets up top to Taylor five seconds. He's on the right wing. He drives it sideways and puts it up. Oh god. Seventy seven to sixty six Johnny offering had a chance. Thought he off to the Sweet Sixteen ninety seven. History. The teacher barely escapes pupil. As by chefs. He gets the win over his former star, Johnny Dawkins. Heard of. For lack of effort. What a sensational basketball game. You see they got a pretty good luck. With DJ Taylor. Head coach. It's had a pretty good. Look at the pushback great. His effort was superb got in there. What a story book ending gone wrong for UCF as the son of their coach. Who was a star do put up thirty two points had a chance to win it for UCF upset the big dog Duke. But he couldn't quite get it to drop at Duke escaped seventy seven to seventy six. And it was a long talk at center court, Mike shoshefsky, Johnny Dawkins, obviously, hugs admiration. Mike chefs yesterday said look Johnny Dawkins his family. I don't want to coach against a buddy had to any beats by one point. That's a tough situation. Very tough situation to Mark is over there. Talking to the players right there. Of us. He's over there. Get a chance to talk. To Aubrey Dawkins Dayon Griffin sobbing on the shoulder of the opposing coach, Mike chef ski these are the moments March that you don't forget also shows Claire. Yeah. Absolutely. Dow both teams had to their locker room. Do star was diag Williamson as he always is thirty two points and Aubrey dockage with thirty two for UCF in the law. Wow. "Size the things that he can do a he's finesse. He's everything, you know. Mike desert. Good job of getting good players to play together. That's an easy thing to do you. Hear people always say if I team. James today to it eight. So trust me that he does a great job of getting them to understand the concept of playing together and they play together. And then on top of that you have a stop. And I'm not talking about a defense. Stop talking about an office. All you do is give it to the big war, it he can do everything why he is flat out. Unbelievable. As is that entire freshmen class. So North Dakota state and Duke and in the nightcap will be UCF, Johnny dockings. The former Duke standout going against VCU who can really turn you over sixteen point three turnovers a game that they force central Florida were really have to take care of the basketball in that eight nine matchup. All right. That'll do it from Columbia right now. Let's go back to Jason Horowitz in the Westwood One broadcast center. All right, Brandon goats. Thank you very much at Crozier. Also part of the broadcast team later on tonight in Columbia, South Carolina. So pair of one seed starting their tournament there in South Carolina. It's a different story though in San Jose, California because that's the site where you've got. A pair of four thirteen and five twelve matchups. Meaning maybe that's where the day's biggest upsets come from. Let's get the days preview. Chris Carina hall of fame. Coach, Mike Montgomery. Thank you Jason. The first game of the day in San Jose features that have a four seat of the south Kansas state against the number thirteen seed, UC Irvine ant eaters, this is a major conference Kansas state share the regular season title of the big twelve going up against UC, Irvine coaches fem- of the day and what will win out. The major conferences or the mid majors here in San Jose. Well, that's answer. That's what makes this March madness. So much fun Irvine dominated the big west conference. They went fifteen in one thirty wins overall. But you know, let's face it big west is not big twelve. And so now you've got a situation where they're going up against the big boys. The sad thing is is for a lot of schools like Irvine and liberty or any of these others. They can't get games. They can't schedule games against the big boys. So now they get in the tournament. Here's an opportunity to prove yourself. Now. Kansas state big twelve champ. They're going to be big. They're going to be physical have been battle-tested playing through that league. But they're big guy. Wade is out for this game. And that's a big deal. Second leading score six ten they're leading rebounder. And Irvine can match up physically they play a lot of guys in roster likes the physical game. So it could be an it's rematch up. You know, they didn't have weighed last year. Here. He had another foot injury last season. They still got to within a game of the final four. They're backorder. Barry Brown, Kamau, Stokes senior guards are always so important here in the tournament. Well, there's no question guys that have been here guys you can score. They have the ball in their hands. Because sometimes the inside game gets negated, and that that's what could happen here. But I look for a good matchup. Don't be surprised at providing gives them everything they want. Yeah. They've got a lotta size for a team that plays in the big west. The second game of the afternoon session is a little different. It features two powerhouse programs from major conferences as Wisconsin. Number five seat of the south out of the big ten taking on the Pac twelve tournament champions. That are twelve sea to the south the Oregon ducks bowl teams. Good defensively, Wisconsin here coach, excuse the pun. We'll badger you defensively. Well, they are both good defensively and Oregon they're coming off four straight games. Four straight wins in four straight nine to win the Pac twelve. Tournament. And that was really really impressive. They've come on at the end of the year. They're starting four six nine or above players. They are big and athletic, and they really do defend daynuss got them playing great right now and west Wisconsin. Of course, they're always been known for fundamental basketball. They defend their tough kids. And they've got a great player inside at Ethan. Have that is going to be something that Oregon is going to have to figure out because the the whole thing runs through hap-? He's a great passer. He's a great score. He's got great fakes get you lifted and everything what he probably hasn't seen before is athletic kids, like.

"Blue that scandal to a different level. Yeah. But Tiger Woods. There were no pictures of Tiger Woods at a Perkins. Trying to pick up the waitress. There were no pictures of Tiger Woods doing what he did cheating on his wife because the whole environment changed since still people posted did all that's like they didn't have that outlet. When Michael was running the streets. Wasn't going home every night. Yes. He was. Okay. Good luck that that take three one two three three two three seven seven six. Viking Scott from crown point Viking, Scott. What's up sparkles? Than the Vikings camp. This is my time of the year 'cause I watch probably five hundred games during the course of the season. But my question besides getting into some Michigan state talk. Here is the underlying things that they do. So for instance, if Johnny dockings with UCF beach VCU probably is going to be without their point guard they play Johnny Dawkins going back to play against coach K in the second round. K we already talked about the the Minnesota with Tinos kid coaching Louisville in the first round. I want to know what the committee has against Montana. Two years in a row they get to play Michigan in the first round. Look. They got no some of this stuff. Don't they when they're going through this? You would think I mean there's people saying that they set the the Louisville game up simply because it's Richard Patino against the school is dad suing. I mean, you could find some of these subplots all the throughout the tournament. You can go biggest travesty in my mic capital was putting Kansas in a situation to where they get to play fifteen minutes from home, basically a second home arena, if they make it to the Sweet Sixteen once again, I don't think they are. They're just not as good normally as a Kansas team is this year. But that to me is a travesty people were complaining, but they have no choice because there's only eight sites that Minnesota could get a rematch with Minnesota in the second round. But once you have eight teams or more they can't guarantee you can't play team in your conference still Sweet Sixteen. No question about it. Well, said thanks ban. Have a good day take care cabbage Christmastime, you got it would see a kid. It is. It's the greatest we gotta take quick time out. We'll get to more of your calls and talk to my guy Jordan cornet who is in Bristol all weekend doing tournament stuff.
