"Six long months and one hundred sixty two meaningless games. Major league baseball is back March madness. Otherwise known as chalk Auburn basketball NC double A investigation. Collision course, Sam apu's up raiders female lacrosse player of all time. Kevin Durant said it's not odd at all the warriors to lose by thirty five points at home. No, Katie, it's totally normal. But the two time defending champion to lose by thirty five points. That is fifteen games below five hundred at seven thirty on the road. You know, what's odd? How bad your team is without Steph curry and how good your team is without you. You know, what else is are you? Oh, what happened there one last thing? Please come to the next. A tradition. Unlike any other the Bill self Ciocca route. Bill self is in the Basketball Hall of fame. I demand a recount rock thanked everyone for accepting him who he is. When you consider the time, and who we actually is how the hell did that happen? I think we all know which way we go if we had the better lives on whether or not Tom Brady was pissed that he wasn't mentioned in rob gronkowski's retirement post. The most shocking thing to happen. This weekend was gratis retirement post being grammatically. Correct. Was it all of it? I think there was something at the end that was a little screwed up. I think I think the last sentence. I didn't read till the end. That is Bruce Pearl a guy with he wins the national championship. We'll have it vacated within five years remained, so lovable. I'm not sure how but I'm fairly certain the college football playoff committee had something to do with UCF losing to do fifteen hours later, and I'm still sick or UCF rate raw and real interview by coach K after the game. Coach you put the king in class. So roughly five fifteen PM yesterday. I had no idea. Johnny Dawkins was the head coach at UCF and his son was his star player look up March madness in the dictionary. And what you'll see is Duke and UCF with a single game. I learned more about Zion Williamson then I did the entire season. Dan. Did you see Iowa in the first half? That's what a team looks like forty eight hours after it has to face Nick Cronin. Well, I mean, you might beat Mick. But not before he beats you. Well, they should quit all the fuss and pay degrom already. What all the fuss exactly what you'd expect to hear from a man, whose nickname is Thor a missile you in this rebound. A MS put back things that will haunt those kids at UCF for the remainder of their lives. Dan, you know, what you did yesterday? What's that? They survive and advance. You know what else? They did. Yep. What else they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat? Yesterday after the UFC game. Coach K looked like a guy who got away with a crime coach K can't spell crime without the cat. Coach K look like a kid who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar coach you put the K a cookie jar. If ten years ago, you took the prop that which will happen ten years from now the twenty one year old tight end of the patriots will retire or the thirty one year old quarterback of the patriots will be entering his pride. And you took the thirty one year old quarterback entering his prime at plus one billion. Congratulations. Jared cook guessing you'd like a do over haven't confirmed yet. But. Hearing when learning the news that was going to retire. Bill Belichick yawned congratulations to whoever the next tight. End of the patriots is for making it to the hall of fame. The beauty of is that you could absolutely see him as a wrestling star a broadcasting star or a porn star broadcasting star, Monday night football, odd telling you man, I would love to see grog unfiltered in the Monday night football. I want you wouldn't know. I'd rather see him than Peyton Manning. No, no. What's? I didn't know Mike Dunleavy was hired as the basketball coach until he was fired. Yes. Inside Mike trout that he never thought about leaving the angels. My if you want anyone to believe you next I'd say that before you sign the four hundred twenty five million dollar contract. John Mara said it'll be hard to watch Odell Beckham played for the Browns. Don't worry John. It won't be nearly as hard as watching ally. Manning played for the giants Robert Kraft said the patriots will honor gronk in the near future. I'm faking a fifteen minute ceremony before the AFC championship game two weeks away from golf having speaking of heaven. That's not where you'll find our Brian. If you want to see him head directly sound to a place called hell, and when you get there make sure you tell them I said, Dan. Those are the weekend observation ceremony put all of these questions on the poll. Please will gronk me. A good broadcaster was America rooting for Duke yesterday. And did you learn yesterday, the Jeremy lamb plays for the Charlotte Hornets that something that you learned yesterday because it is something I learned yesterday when it beat the raptors a stand, what's the most crushing way that you've ever lost at the end away cement similar you have obviously when LeBron hit that shot. But is there a half court shot? That's beaten you before. Yeah. Matt burns when he was in Memphis. I was in Detroit we missed we had to run the shot clock down. We took a shot. Right near the end of the shot clock. Memphis didn't have any time outs. And they got the ball out. Matt Barnes, hit a half court shot to beat us. Like on the run. It was it was devastating have radio. Call of that that winter. Oh, no. You're gonna hit that you're gonna hit them. Barnes, Jeremy lamb. Hornets.

"I mean, I'm exhort hap-. Yeah. It's like the Yang here because they were at the serving of winning and they were so good. And I'm so proud that those kids played at the well, but their coach in the coach being Johnny Dawkins who is probably the most important recruit that coach K's ever had in his tenure Duke because he's the first star real star. And if you really want to break it down even further the first African American star do because he had had Danny ferry. There had been other player, Marc Alary. But when they got Johnny Johnny Dawkins changed Duke and Johnny made Duke a little cooler to watch. And you know, that it was just it was different when they got him there. And you know, so he had been at Stanford now at central Florida his son playing for him, and you could tell coach K at the end of that game. That's pretty tough. Even though you one, you know. No. And I think there was part of him that you know, you just you have to feel for Johnny Dawkins in central Florida. Take phone calls coming up a few best and worse than we can. We talked a lot about gronk. I know that we want to categorize right away because he just retired. So is he the greatest tight end of all time. You know, I I guess I I I don't know what you're comparing it to you know, at times he was he wasn't consistently. Great. But when he was great he was greater than anybody else. Who's played that position. And there've been a lot of great players who played that position. I think winning helps him more because he had four great seasons. Maybe four maybe five and a lot of coverage. And he got headlines you're playing you're playing in big games. Whereas some of these other tight ends that we talk about it. John Mackey and Mike Ditka. You throw in Kellen Winslow. Antonio gates. Tony Gonzalez, sharp Ozzie Newsome was great. But they didn't have the platform that grown too. And when you're producing in the playoffs playing big big games in you know, that that can tip your well. We do this with other positions certainly quarterback. How many Super Bowls? Did you win? I think in this situation. You look at what gronk did I go back. And I don't know if the comparison is apt, but like Terrell Davis was unbelievable for about a five year period. And I made the argument if gale sayers can be in the hall of fame, why can't Terrell Davis. He had four great years. He rushed for two thousand yards. He had a couple of Super Bowls that he won. And he was a key ingredient to them winning. Not John Elway was Terrell Davis. And he said, well, what is a hall of Famer of injuries cut short? And you know, I could look at gronk career of five great years. Unbelievable years sorta like Terrell Davis. And that's why I argued for Terrell. Davis get into the hall of fame because I thought you know, what gale sayers got in and gale sayers was as dramatic as any running back. I ever saw him alive. He was something. I'd never seen him on when I was growing up because he was making cuts that I just didn't think were possible. These the first running back. I remember Jim Brown. I was able to watch the Browns because I grew up in Ohio. So you watch them every Sunday, and Jim Brown was just this force. But gale sayers. If we were if we were putting on music, I'm putting on heavy metal for Jim Brown. I'm putting on jazz. I'm putting on Coltrane for gale sayers..

"Is dancing around all cocky? Got his guard down. Looking a little groggy. Switch tells the story. I loved it. I loved it. This knucklehead thinks he's Sugar Ray, Leonard bobbin and we've got his arms hanging down in his face out. Ryan Berlet good hit hit me. Good and his opponent. Look like he had been hit numerous times, his eyes were all swollen it at a long night. Yes, he did. And all of a sudden this guy, Bob, and we even peekaboo, and then all of a sudden, poppy just got smashed with one. Woah, wait, a minute drop them. Yeah. It's great. Did you have a worst of the weekend? That was everything. Okay. Best appalling best and worst. I just have a great guard. Carson Edwards of the perpetrator. Boilermakers taken down Villanova Carson Edwards with forty two points and thirty nine minutes that kid he can score great lift on his jumper to man. I was also looking Zion. Williamson and Duke survived freshman with at least thirty points, and at least ten rebounds in the NC double A tournament lifetime. Mark McGuire is on this list. Marcus camby's on this list. Mo Williams from Alabama's on this list. Carmelo Anthony is on this list. And now Zion Williamson is on this list. Most points by a Duke player in the tournament since Jay Williams had thirty four against UCLA back in two thousand one what if do could lost. What would we be saying today? What would the lead be because it wouldn't be central Florida? It would be we would focus on Duke underachievers Zion. Misses a free throw all this talk. They couldn't shoot coach K. You got your one in Duns, but you didn't recruit any players who could shoot. I mean. I'm curious what the spin would be. If do good lost that game. Losing to Johnny Dawkins than it would be hey, should Johnny Dawkins be considered next in line to take over for coach K? It depends on how far you want to take this. But there would be some questions, and they could have easily. They should've lost. They should have central Florida had the CIA. And this wasn't Duke losing this would have been central Florida winning the game because they were making big shots big plays there. But I wonder what the spin would be today. Duke had lost. Yes. Mclovin. Exposed to be an elite defensive team. I thought they looked lazy closing down on threes again. And again, and again, I thought they were one of the best defensive. They were not. I mean UCF shot fifty percent from three and they were open. Yeah. You know? It's it's one of those where you kind of I don't want to say that you don't respect your opponent because coach K would not allow that to happen. But it just felt like, hey, Unisys, central Florida. I Khuda we play after you almost got feeling during the game in the beginning of their like who who do we play through central Florida? We can always flip the switch at halftime. I mean, it's closed mcmahan central Florida. And then all of a sudden, they get momento. And then you're trying to flip that switch, and they couldn't do it in central Florida was the better team down the stretch. If you make that dunk that alleyoop. So you're up at Europe six with one fifty to go. And now they're going to have to file in it. And then you're gonna have to rely on a three point shot that this time would have been contested. But give them credit in transition Cam radish hits a big three three that I think is sort of lost. Because Zion hit the big who foul out taco falls. And then you had RJ Barrett with the put back there here is ion Williamson talking about those last couple of seconds dockets came flying in mean when he tipped to microseconds when that borrowed around going last K talks about lot with the basketball. God's our back. Here's coach K on central Florida's performance. I feel bad that they lost. I mean, I'm exhort hap-. Yeah. It's like. The ain't gonna Yang here because they were serving of winning and there were so good. And I'm so proud that those kids played at the level of their coach and the coach Johnny Dawkins who is probably the most important recruit that coach K's ever had in his tenure at Duke because he's the first star real star. Well, Davis get into the hall of fame because I thought you know, what gale sayers got in and gale sayers was as dramatic as any running back. I ever saw him alive. He was something. I'd never seen him on when I was growing up because he was making cuts that I just didn't think were possible. Lisa I running back. I'm putting on Coltrane for gale sayers. Gale sayers to me was who knows what he would have been into with today's technology that he would have come back from that knee injury. And then you had OJ right after gale sayers. Like, those were transformative moments in my life of watching something where you just I had not seen that before. I'd I'd not seen running backs without ability. That's speed that ability to be able to cut like, but no one was like gale sayers until Barry Sanders, though, but you know, gronk hall of Famer great career and a lot of fun. But. But I don't know if he's done. I just even when I heard the news. I'm like, I don't know feels like you rest for four four months. Certainly takes away from the headlines Robert Kraft, the patriots owner who over the weekend. He said, hey, I'm sorry. But I never said what he's sorry four. And I'm not sure what the strategy is with Robert Kraft. We hadn't heard from you. And then you come out, and you say, you're sorry. But you don't say what you're sorry for. And I don't know. I know you got a lot of sympathy with headlines over the weekend. I don't know if that's what he was looking for. But he got it Robert Kraft. Sorry, patriots owner sorry. And I thought, you know, if you if I would plead guilty if I thought that that kept that video from getting out, but it feels like that video is getting out. And then the local police say, it's it's really ugly we've seen it's really what like what is ugly. On this video with Robert Kraft. And you know, once this happened. I said the only thing that I care about what this story is is disciplined with the NFL in does that video get out because he's not going to jail pay a fine community service. But when he said he was he was sorry. I don't know what that means as we move forward with it. But I do think that video is getting out. Let's see Allen in Minnesota best was each euro worst. I wish Iowa's comeback or central. Florida's upset bid had come to fruition. Instead. We remain mostly. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, it's a chalky Sweet Sixteen. It. Now means they're good teams. But it's sort of been boring yet a couple of close games certainly yesterday Duke against central magic of do bounce yesterday. What that would have done to the tournament because there's no must see player. There's no must see team. If Duke goes John Marantz already out. So who do you have? Tennessee. He got Admiral Admiral didn't even play like he says to his coach. Hey, don't put me in. I got four fouls. I can't play. I wanna play. I was like what? That wouldn't surprise me a little bit. He's a really good player, but Tennessee comes back after blowing a twenty five point lead. But who else where you go, man? I gotta watch that player Kentucky's best player. He's in a walking boot right now. Auburn's interesting. But can you name any of those players? I love North Carolina. There are a whole lot of fun. But I love this style. Their their point guard.

"Beautiful. I mid West Bank studio. Somebody was busy cleaning up and renovating in here this weekend alongside Jordan cornet. I'm David Caplan Felix race will be with us all week long. Danny is on a much deserved vacation this family. Christopher black is the controls. And we are ready to go with a lot of March madness talk, some baseball talk. It's opening week Thursday for cubs and White Sox. And we've got a little bulls. We're going to get into and Ryan base wins another awards. So interesting stuff going cargo sports, Al fantastic, man. I'm still recovering. I tweeted out yesterday. I needed a cigarette. And I don't even smoke, man. Does that was incredible basketball UCF team that I watched all season long new? They have the talent. Obviously, they have the seven foot six taco fall, which is a problem for any offense trying to attack the rim. I didn't think he'd have that much of an impact into Duke because its ion Aubrey Dawkins the story lines that came with it being a coach's son Johnny Dawkins kid, Johnny Dawkins. Second all time leading scorer in Duke history. The protege the guy who coached on the staff with coach K, and they wanna gate. They were they were the they were the better team. Of course, they didn't actually win the game because the score. There's more points on Duke side. They were the better team. The better team did not win the game that day. And that's just the reality of few things one you disappointed me yesterday. How's that? I got you on the phone because I'm a phone guy. And so are you? That's why.

"Ever for coach K, and he's lucky because he's got to do with a special mindset. Yes. The way that dude wants the ball down the stretch out his games, and they're sitting there and they're down three. And you're thinking they're going to hoist one up, and he says, no, I know tacos got four fouls. I know my best chance is not trying to shoot around him. It's to go. Right. Dudes chest and make something happen. And that's exactly what he did. And it draws the foul that ultimately becomes the thing that puts him at the line and gets them the game winner off miss like that's a special mentality. But it's still a group of freshmen that you've got a coach up, and you've got to coach up hard in every opportunity something you can always find out at the end coming to the end is who wants the ball. Correct. And you could you tell you can know people that don't, you know, they'll never admit, they don't, but they may want it. But they may want someone else who actually shoot it when they get it. Zion has no fear. He was trying to pop threes. He actually made three seventy miss some at the end there. And I was thinking the same thing man Taco's got four. All right atom. I mean, he's still seven six with his hands up at it. It's intimidating, but he can't do a whole lot aggressively is going to get called for a foul in Zion dig, right? Adam got the end one ended up missing the the the free throw. But RJ Barrett gets the rebound off what many people thought a push as well. A lot of people thought the whistles really went to ways in this one at the end, but UCF even with all that said had to really to shanties crack the end of the game really more than a few chance to go up seventy six seventy as we said the last shot the tip in had their opportunities. They certainly did. And this was a very bittersweet game for coach K to win because the coach of central Florida for those that don't know was Johnny Dawkins. Johnny Dawkins was the first legitimate big time player. Sorry, Jay Bilas, Mike, chef ski sort of recruited inside Jay Bilas was in that same class. But just so people know the relationship between Johnny Dawkins and coach K Johnny Dawkins started all one hundred thirty three games in his four years Duke from eighty to eighty six his freshman season was coach case third season as a head coach his senior season. He led coach Katy was first final four. Parents what I lost a Louisville in the championship game. And he served on coach K staff for ten seasons afterwards as an assistant and after the win coach K was almost apology. Because it had to come at the expense of Johnny Dawkins. Look, I love Johnny crying. So I taught I love Johnny talkers. Yeah. I feel bad that they lost. I mean, I'm exhort 'em. Like, the ain't gonna hang here. Because they were the serving of winning and they were so good. And I'm so proud that those kids played at the level of their coach and the the kid that played at the level of the coach was the coach's kid. Yeah. Aubrey Dawkins Johnny Dawkins kid who when Johnny got the job at UCF Aubrey transferred to UCF to to play for his father twelve of eighteen from the field five or seven from three point land ends up with thirty two points. And and as I tweeted after the game, I said, you know, the Duke players will go on and move on from this game because they have another game. I said the UCF players not only will think about this for a while. But even passer playing days, they'll think about the what s and for Aubrey Dawkins the game that he had thirty two points. And you know, what's going to be on his mind is two things the play that he didn't put in and the tip at the end that it didn't put in athletes will always think about the what s more than the good that happened in their career. And it's a shame because dolphins. A hell of a game. But he's gonna think about those two plays more than any. He was the most dominant player down at the end. I mean, it was every possession. You knew if UCF was going to have success the ball needed to go through his hands period end of sentence. So you're right. It was it was max devastation. We got to see inside that locker room in a way that's unique to this time of year. And you saw devastation for those kids. And you saw Johnny Dawkins said he goes, we knew it was either going to end with us in a championship or us devastated and crying like this because that's what you invest in this point. Yeah. Exactly. So what what did we encode case said after the game we saw it from Cam and RJ and Zion. They wanted to win. They will thus to win and they took care of it. As you said Zion was going to finish the one way or the other. The ball in his hands. It's like the old line from that movie, the replacements winners want the ball know, they want the ball. So that's one end of the spectrum for a team that was victorious in the tournament. Then there's Tennessee Tennessee survives overtime game with Iowa eighty three seventy seven and they move on to win. And their best player is maybe the best name outside of taco fall. Tournament is Admiral Scofield, but Admiral Scofield down the stretch of this game was not in the game. He had foul trouble. But the coach didn't take him out. He essentially took himself out of the game, albeit for altruistic reasons, he was Admiral Scofield talking about why he decided to not be in when Tennessee was late down the stretch of a regular season the regular time annand overtime early. I was probably in the second half. I was in a good rhythm. It's just foul. Trouble got me, and I had to sit for periods of time which. Coal. But.

"To my chefs keep break emotionally breakdown in praise of Johnny Dawkins. And how split he was down the line of celebrating the victory of his team and Duke yet knowing how close he is that Johnny Dawkins and wanting Johnny Dawkins UCF team to win. So in that we're gonna have to replay it before we go to the newer clip. But in that, quote, Mike chef ski references. The you know, the yin and Yang of the emotions, and I go to the golden child at ruined today. Of course, listening great sweeter that he is loved the golden child, and then goes on with a quote, and it's something that I thought of immediately whenever I hear that phrase or that term of the yin Yang. I just immediately go to the golden I I don't know why. But I'll always go to the golden child and rightfully. So because more people should know about that movie. Eddie Murphy has a long list of solid movies. I mean, his catalog is legit for comedic actor funnier stand up than onscreen, but so's everybody. He's got some misses a lot of duds as well. Don't get me wrong. You're not you don't do that many like, Pluto Nash. Dave there've been some really bad ones awful ones. But you go back and look at every single thing that he did that was really the best or no, I would say top three. I would say that you legit have to look at every movie that Eddie Murphy has done in order to come up with a top five or ten list if you want and golden child would be in more people's top three the not. So if you went family feud, right like we serve one hundred people and ask them to name the top five Eddie Murphy movies. I would say seventy five percent seventy to seventy five percent of the people polled would say the golden child is atop the removing. With that set. It's always going to be the Ying and the Yang for me. I let's get this boxing thing. Real quick. This thing has gone viral. And I thought it was pretty cool when I watched it on Twitter, and then I clicked on the website. And I watched it a couple more times with the actual replay. Basically just to set up the scene. This guy has been getting his face kinda punched in all all night. And there's about ten seconds left to go. He knocks the other guy out the guy who gets knocked out is been showboating hands down guard down the entire time. And this happens. Believes..

"It. But he missed it. By that much ball is on the cylinder. Westwood one. NCWA radio network with the call seventy seven seventy six the final dukes survives with a win over the nine seed Zion. Williamson thirty two points, eleven rebounds, third freshman and NC double A tournament history with twenty five points in each of his first two games as for what crossed his mind in those closing seconds out there played like defense and play like there's no tomorrow and. Played Grady facing Michigan. A ballot. Doc came flying in. I mean, well he tipped to. Pizarro microseconds have borrowed around Iran. Molecular going. Last coast K talks about allow with the basketball God's Zion. Williamson fifty seven points at his first two NC double A tournament games tied with Kevin Durant for the most all time by a freshman. RJ Barrett had sixteen points the game winner with eleven seconds to go following the missed free throw so dukes survives and coach K has enough to beat former player and assistant coach Johnny Dawkins Janis team was magnificent. I mean, they were so well prepared that's as high a level of any team that we've played against all year. They were man. Aubrey wasn't outstanding. He was magnificent our guys hung in there. And we got that seven point lead. And we missed the shot Amanda turnover, and then they went on that barrage of shooting and. These kids my guys hung in there. They hung in there because. Yeah. Just a momentum of the tournament. The what's going on you could be defeated right there. And instead. They hung in. There. We waited forever about the call for the shot clock violations. Yeah. And during that, it was two oh nine left, and we talked about these kids are made for these two minutes and. Dave. Fought and Cam had a huge three and the well to win of Zion and RJ is. You can't measure it. It's just there. And it's. Yeah. They're young work a young group. But what they did right at the end of that game. And willingness to win was just absolutely sensational. Talking about Aubrey Dawkins for UCF he had thirty two points. He's the eighth player with a thirty two point game against Duke in an NC double A tournament game. Duke does survives and earns its twenty-seventh Sweet Sixteen appearance. We had a lot of time. So long time too. Do that. And on the court. I said look no matter what the decision will be made. There's going to be eight to ten maybe more possessions in this game. And you guys were made for these two minutes. And just be yourselves, and they are we had a waterfowl trouble. And we are young and we're not deep, but we're good. But we had a lot of stuff. Go on today that was difficult for us. And they were still a and the most difficult was the other team, and we were able to find a way to win. And these kids are that they they have they have it. Hopefully, we can continue to advance. But I love who they are. And I have confidence in them. And you if they didn't come through then I got their backs, but they did come true. Dirk with its twenty-seven. Sweet Sixteen appearance matching Kentucky for the second. Most appearances by any school ads for dukes matchup in the Sweet Sixteen liberty with the ball down.

"As you get ready for this one. You have to probably have a few guys from Duke reaching out to you, right? It's been relatively quiet to be quite Frank. Oh, God, it's been relatively quiet. But they don't want to give the scouting report. Coach know exactly I haven't had a lot of time to to to really, you know, you know, look at my phone and deal with that as much as you can imagine, you know, between you know, playing really late game game was at nine forty. And then then after that tire dot the quick turnaround having to start studying for for Duke. So as you know, we've been we've been just grinding. And that's kinda how this time of year is so, you know, I'm sure everyone realizes that as well. Last one for you coach, and we appreciate the time Johnny Dawkins here with Gaza coach of UCF the nights will play Duke Sunday five fifteen PM eastern coming off their victory against VCU, everyone that doesn't have a side in this one Duke or UCF is going to be looking at the possibility of Zion trying to dunk on taco fall is it possible to dunk over taco. With possibly Delco anybody as you note seven six though, that's just it's just it's just timing and and timing and being in the right place in the wrong place. Then the Dow still can occur. No matter who you are. So I just I like I said I mean, I heard some of that. And and you know, I don't really get caught up in those things. The main things we have to play our defense away where used to playing it. They're going to run their offense the way they used to running it. And and then we just see what happens. But, you know, that's that's that's how you know overwhelming concerned about us playing, you know, good UCF defense. Coach incredible job this season. We hope it continues. Best to what coming up on Sunday. Thank you for the time. Hey, thank you. Gotta take care. Appreciate coach Johnny Dawkins. Joining us right there on CBS sports radio. Can you imagine? His team later today defeats Duke. Yeah. You have a Duke legend. Defeating Duke if that does happen and when coach K's favorite players ever. That'd be something with all due respect UCF program. And they've had a lot of moments that athletic department football basketball over the last few years. I don't see them being the team that takes down Duke in my bracket. I did pick due to it at all up against Kentucky. I had Texas Tech. Coming out of the bottomless and then the top, right? I had Virginia so Virginia Kentucky beating up and then Duke, Texas Tech meeting up and then the little do Kentucky National championship game of Duke winning at all. That would be something though, if doc in squad. Did take down Duke and told them the biggest key to that game is getting off to a fast start and that may not be enough. But if you go down ten points early to Duke, you have no shot in the basketball game. So I'm hoping it's going to be a fun one. Because when we come back, you sometimes hear things that are said when you have an event because people expected to be some way, but they don't turn out to be the way that you actually think about it..

"So interesting so design so zion's family going to cheer for Zion grew up and door that they got the family house there in Durham, he's you know, the family's all about Durham's. Are they going to be split some of them, absolutely? Lavelle Motz on the coach of into central said that he did not want his team to take on John. But he has already thought it. He does those I on very well. I think there's a bunch of central guys usually have some friendships with the Duke guys. So there's a little bit of a rivalry in the fact that that sixteen we'll be playing a one, but also be very familiar with on. I know they practice with each other before it definitely feels like a game. Like if that actually happens that's not going to be game or central even trying to win. They're just trying to get their one highlight all the players are like Deng on Zion. I don't care if we lose by seventy s. Is all I need is that an one owns ion. So everyone of the NBA could be like see he can't do it against right? Exactly. That's good central. Also, as Morton's son is the the viral video of cryan the seniors. He was gonna miss the seniors all that kind of stuff. He will be the Mariah muscleman of the season in sort of you know, like for the ten minutes for the play in game four win season draws a eight four lead on do. Right. They cut to the cut to the crowd, and they're so moans. And then they're like, all right. You're about to cry more Bs you'll be a central character for about eight minutes. So the second round game though. So let's say do wins not a fair assumption. People forget Virginia lost sixteen. It'd be the one we've seen it before. We could see it again. But let's go at assumed wins. Either second round matchup is juicy. Yes. 'cause I own both sides. Yes, we get like the VCU game, which is seven with Eric meaner. When they beat up said do that was the first time we realized that await a giant can fall on a big stage. And that was also a time where maybe there's panic mode posed JJ that was what Eric made abroad. And then we also have the great Johnny Dawkins. A man that is love and adored a man that has his son on the team, which some that we like here with our program in a belief in nepotism, we. We like the fact that you know, we got the Dawkins family on borne a team that knows the Duke way, Johnny Dawkins AMAN that knows coach K's belief system of belief in charges is a belief, and do whatever whatever it takes in any point. So that's a good second round matchup who also UCF if you want us to have to win. I wanna see taco versus ion. Yes. That's what we really want..

"That's why coats don't be called a timeout to run a plate recognizing ED's. Interesting zone that they're seeing out there. Just don't. Yep. Zone, causing some problems that time a lot more smallest gone to floor got into the lane, actually, John. He got it the hit off the rim, and it almost dropped in. But instead it went to taco fall on the rebound, but he would served after invest better served. He got into the paint think kick the ball out to so one waiting in the corner, the ousted a nice job in the first half finding Mormon in the corner. But you can't challenge you guys three thousand he's still gonna play defense on tried. But the story of the day is. Aubrey dockets twenty eight points for the coach's son twenty eight of their forty eight coming from number fifteen and he is shooting at a phenomenal rate. Reductions is tan of sixteen four of five from three point range for those twenty eight points. He's really now most of this shot to uncontested. So we're not seeing the God is contesting shots. They all just getting out there. But you have to credit the deepest tell me they offense. The Johnny Dawkins is running. He's sending a lot of picks given dog enough time to free up for that jump shot on case, you're wondering his career highs thirty one that was against Rutgers. When he played at Michigan in the big ten that was back in March. That was almost four years ago today, March.

Smith goes right by him baseline looking into the paint. Apart fumbles the ball gets it puts it up. He's got double digits fifty eight thirty nine the tiger rita's nineteen with ten forty five. Go Taylor will walk it up and Johnny Dawkins says call time out, and they do at ten forty to go and misplace goes bananas seventeen thousand forty six love and what they're seeing. It's brought to you by the Tennessee lottery. Tennessee education lotteries proud to raise more than four point eight billion dollars to support education programs in Tennessee. We fact the Tennessee lottery we love this crowd to this is one of the better ones. This year is a big crowd. Tigers deep you got to be very happy. What they're doing Dave on the year that giving up on those eighty four game UCF going gonna get nowhere near eighty four points today on the other hand. Yeah. You like the metro. Stance is the Tigers. They're communicating they're doing what they have to do. They shut out taco fall down. They should have to expires at UCF very defensive performance. They don't lose tonight. Make give up sixty three or less all the Tigers. Need is six more points that the on that I would think they'll make that comfortably inbound Griffin. He'll give it to Taylor right time line with walk max.

"Help with your team. Team or you need to lean on somebody. Who who do you go to and you're in those situations? Well, I have a great group of friends that you know, are obviously still involved in college basketball, specifically college basketball, coaching, and you know, one of those happens to be the guy who coached me coach K, and we still maintain a very close relationship. And he's a guy that I would go to them trying to build a program or figure things out number the guys that I played with Chris Collins at northwestern and Jeff Capel, Pittsburgh. I mean, we stay in very close contact when Snyder out in Utah, and Johnny Dawkins at good see, you know, I mean UCF I mean, those are all guys that you can pick up the phone call at a moment's notice and talk about the different things that come your way a college basketball coach, whether that's you know, dealing with success or knowing adversity or. All the things in between. We mentioned coach K. I'm sure there's a hundred things you could point to. But is there one particular piece of advice that sticks out that he's given you over the years? You know, I think he gives us all guys better in coaching. And that's to be yourself. You know, I think he, you know, he he recognizes that, you know, his coaching tree all of us have strengths of ours. That have allowed us to to get to this point. All of us have things that we need to continue to grow out while we're doing those things and engaging in that process of becoming better and becoming more. You'd have to stay true who you are as a person and put your personality and stand on your own individual programs. Now, you mentioned this is your fifth year as a head coach at Marquette. What's been the biggest difference for you and your team this off season? Maybe compared to the previous four. Well, this is the deepest team. I've had and one of the results of having a deeper team is the competitiveness of practices has risen and competitive the competition for floor time and minutes is much greater than it really is ever been since. I've. Been here. And I think that's really important because obviously, I believe I in sharp and having a competitive mentality each and every day should raise everybody's level. And that's probably the biggest difference from the teams that I've had in the past. It seems like expectations are higher this. You assume that's something that you welcome. We want high expectations. You know, we want people to believe that we are not only good team, but a really good program, and I embraced them. I'm used to that. That's something that I've dealt with since I was a, you know, a teenager from my playing career and then obviously throughout my coaching career. I've been at places that people expect and have high standards, and that's what you want. I mean, you won't people to think highly of your program of your kids of your team and your potential to do big things in college basketball. You added some really str-. Wrong pieces this last year..

"To be that mike chefs to still young and spry frankly is it time to start thinking about a coach in waiting for mike chefs skier do you think that you know he's he's in good health so you know what there's no time limit at this point yeah you know i think we've always kind of thought of coaching waiting if somebody who's in the program in the present trench and and i think you know there are a lot of guys out there who who could potentially be coaches in waiting for that spot and like you said i i would not be shocked if coach k coach for ten years i would be shocked coach for five and i would be shocked if he retired tomorrow i mean i i don't think he knows how long he's gonna coach and it's it's it's funny because we've been having the conversation of or we sort of been reading the tea leaves as guys have left the program john going back to johnny dawkins when he left for standard and then chris collins whoa joe and now jeff capable we keep we continue to have the conversation while i guess coach is going to be around for five years i i don't think he really knows and so i think jeff's the job presented itself i don't think it necessarily takes them out of the conversation to be the head coach at duke down the road if that's something he wanted and there'd be a lot of guys i think that that would be on that list so it's i think we read too much more into it than is actually there and i think you know again i think coach is going to be their coach k going to be there for a while chris chris mack xavier leaves he goes to louisville gets a lot of years and a lot of money but in terms of the job is he upgrading his job right now or is that a lateral move how do you view it face that he has i mean we all know he can coach his his debut teams have gone on deep runs all year after year in the ncaa tournament and if he can if he can start to build a recruiting class here which is going to have to do a race the perception of that program i think.
