"Next thing, remember they? They won two tournaments two regular season Mac championships. They won the match West eight times over during his tenure. He's one four hundred twenty eight Games during his college coaching, career and Steve Hawkins joins us here on the all ball pod hawk. How are you? I'm doing well. How much self! I'm good. I'm trying to think back. Snow Valley but I. Don't remember why I'm here and I don't remember if you were actually my head coach or simply a coach there because I'll tell you why want to get to do what? What do you remember, but I Snow Valley Basketball Westmont College in Santa, Barbara, what are your memories when I bring that camp up? Do you really want me to say. That, you like. Everybody knows I was an asshole when I was a kid. I'm an asshole now. So what's the difference at? Okay, we'll in good. You can say about yourself. No it was Snow Valley Basketball Camp and Gosh Almighty I'm GonNa say late. Eighties maybe maybe early nineties and Charlie Sands and heard Lizzie the outstanding. The directors of the camp come to me after about day. One of this particular weaken said Hey, listen. We got a kid. Okay, and I'm telling you now. He's a pain in the ASS but we think you're the guy to handle them. And, I said okay, so they put they put you on my team and You weren't an issue. Yeah, you question things. You went an issue at all so? From then on so I don't know how you were I mean I'm going to say middle school maybe. I went there i. went there I think from like. Time. I was ten or eleven, probably till I was like fourteen. Maybe maybe they'll let me so part of the deal was this. I think it was a Freebie. Right, so. It's it's one thing to be a pain. The like I was more of a pain in the ass in the dorms, just playing pranks and being jackass ever taking out the slats of bunks, putting icy, hot, and in a roommates underwear like that that kind of stuff. Right like not now. I love basketball like that wasn't the issue. It was just you know I like to. That was my way of having a good time. But, it's one thing to be a pain in the ASS. It's nothing when everybody else's parent is paying probably at the time three hundred bucks, and you're not you know your your dad's doing grads and and I. Don't know if you remember. They used to be two sessions, and so you know one session would end on like a Saturday midday, and the next session would start on a Sunday afternoon, and so I would stay for the. The, My Dad, my dad would take me up and drop me off and then hey, will come get him in two weeks right so then so like they're doing a solid of letting you stay for that extra day when no one's around all these things for you're doing it for free and then yeah, you're paying the ass in the dorm so I I think that's why irritated herb and Charlie more than more than anything else. I think he. It was it was a boot camp? It was unbelievable. I I've been working for a company called Sports World that ran all of John Wooden camps, and as long as Pat Riley's at the time. people like that and I was working I was my that was my summer job, and then I and then I. Found about Snow Valley through a mutual friend, also work these camps up. There was like holy cow country club. Nothing cooked wooden camps where country club, but the first session of Snow Valley was. Six Am. And the last game went off at midnight. You know so. It was I. Remember Travelers. Sam's coming out and saying hey. To Campers as four hundred campers there sleep is overrated. Now's the first line every week at Camp in the campaign. Go crazy and. Then yeah, it was, it was solid. That's for sure. Yeah I first day and a half. No basketball, right, you do shooting drills. No basketball footwork defense spacing all a little things. This isn't this honest question? I don't know if you know the answer they still have. They sold Snow Valley the the Westmont version of it and she to the Nike Camps, whatever and there's also one at UC Santa Barbara. There's one in Iowa I've been told. Some of the same coaches run it. Are there this summer. Are there any? Other basketball camps like that around period, and are there any basketball camps that are going to be around this summer? No I don't think that they're number one on Snow Valley I'm not sure what happened to it. I I believe that and I. Don't WanNA speak completely out of place here Doug but I believe that snow valid. There was a guy named Don show Walter who's very very heavy with with USA basketball and he used to work tremendous person and used to work coach witness camps with them as well and I believe that he got involved with no valley. And that may be the I because he was high school coach at Iowa, but in terms of camps I don't know of anybody that has been cleared because of Covid I don't know of anybody that has been cleared to have. Basketball Camps the summer I spoke with Mick Cronin out at UCLA We texted back and forth, and I know they weren't having any. That was as Gosh Almighty maybe three four weeks ago. How what was that? How did you get to boot work? John Wooden can't because I know you got a chance to be really close with coach wooden especially in the summers. How'd that come to be? Yeah, as I was, I was coaching in southern. California was I just graduated from high.

The second session was fluent. You know just can click new. Wanted to to go stray away but in a book and a week rather than other booth as well with what to do to make up their name. After about Bannon I come here. I just think in the spelt just jail. Because obviously trains Billie Joe Israel on La Custodial his speed and combination and food work. You know so. I thought it'd be a good match up and feel comfortable in annex eight further. She hopes I was glad. You Want Obama. Wilton it over the of the war you were going to go to Uber doing recession with with autumn trial as well. I just think that ban status John is more suited. Do not take anything away from on Burke's coach but a lot of failures have a certain standard yeah. I don't think you'd better. Yeah but I'm not no automatic coaches. Well it was. It was very good. I haven't been seeing similar things you need to do. A Walk Cohen again was sort of shoulder stale. And it just wasn't my style until you go rape a couple of teams a job and stuff fell real good but just two different from Aachen and style and billy Joel and South Pole and seeking combination fast punches with good feet walk so under the weakening going to stay in the second week. I'm going to train here. This is what I'm going to go. We'll Ben Weapons. Take out. Congratulations on this new partnership. Also want to say a big congratulations for the weekend. Because of course you're in the Corden last by that but I think anybody watching these knows anything about. Boxing understands the totally invaluable contribution that you made progress and twice in achieved on Saturday night and so low you for from us. Congratulations must be a great fien. Yeah of course you know tossing a fringe as well when Keep putting these right because it does simply bow down to that just because I'm not financially benefiting from a situation doesn't mean he's not my friend anymore. I've always the French. It was completely fake. And of course I wanted to win an annuity to do good number because fame to be able to do what he done. That tops fifty percent in the I knew it was gonna be. What are they now? He's going to be as dominant as that news going to dominate and get good win. We'll come on to that because I know you toss fury fantasy. We'll come into the fight. Second offer the show for those of you watching and listening. We don't often hear about the side of the train is experienced. When there's a split with the fights over they retire or whether you part ways Tyson. Speaking stay co about the void that was left when Belgium hung them up last year. And how that's been a big adjustment period for him over the last twelve months for you. Obviously we've talked for years and years and years but journey was so intense and so hands on and so committed from both of your sides that when that comes through in our magin takes a bit of adjusting for us. Well Yeah of course. She knows it was a twenty four seven job literally twenty four seven three hundred sixty five days a year so it took up a Omar. Tom The last couple of years and I was walking again. We believe in being contacted about the judge situation as well and it was. Actually that wasn't nice to part ways we talked and it was nice to have a little bit of towns myself over the Christmas period as well because for the last three years. Christmas is both days all of that of always been away so it was Nice Avenue bad time to myself as well call you know yourself. You're in a similar situation to Josh where he left the train. But you're the peak of your career. So uconn yeah. We see prospects changing coaches nearly stages of their careers trying to work out. What's best for them? But at this stage of your career when you're changing trainers there's very low margin for error because you're essentially going into big fight off the big fight. There's no easy ones from from this point and the stakes. Obviously a high they she if you particularly and I know you had the same when you left and found. Jamie more you have to fit that has to be has to be someone that you work well with and you agree with their methods and their approach to Faden and the approach they take to fight and training camps and everything else and even just as well so I had a few trainers in mind when I when I joined Jimmy Mira when I left the mcguigan. Sorry Jimmy was the first one that I want on. It just felt a real quick and someone. I didn't do the Josh John Was. He went to show morale's I really. I felt like a fitted in well not jim elect. Jimmy was saying and that was enough for me maybe another two or three guys and manned and everything's a lot of contacting a member of the thing that just just well Jimmy. You obviously need that time to Joe did you. Fought for the Horatio Garcia. I'll say the thing short camp and the approach gender did for a faith and I had six weeks and it wasn't like wasn't forced and the woman felt like the right decision for me to make but it was fast approaching my return defect and again. I knew I needed a coach as well so it was kind of half blood that he was the first guy. Because maybe if I'd have went with someone else with a short space of time I made a one of them because I was getting close. The approaching afraid of in my head. Peter has one solace was one because he was given. Hey and autumn booth was in my head as well as a potential trainer but gave me was the first one to. I'm glad that by the time he then had to build towards the thought. You need that nine months together to Joe was a pairing the two big Of You guys will have the same thing when you come to. Maybe that fight with Ramirez. If he's later this year were next year so in it in a sense. Who's this happened? On some of that you've been mandated for these fights. The ones that you want to have as your first one together. Because you don't really ben one walk into a fight with Joseph Ramirez after you know working with someone for for fourteen sixteen weeks yet your son degree but I feel like she's a similar character to us. Latino Arkansas of quickly understand what type of person he is emotionally how he's mentally and you can see in the build up to previous fought speak fuzzy's had how approaches those flights in that mine and stylistically. I understanding on the standard shrimps on the season. He's the level of far to where you can make adjustments. And of course you can improve them. I do believe even without those adjustments. He's good enough to beat Ramirez in my opinion. Okay but I mean the criticism that you had when you first came on the scene was always baseness your age and your relative inexperience coach and obviously ninety nine percent of thousands. Of course after that I say while to fight for you was the way the Ben led the corner that night and the call. Mri showed on the the highest lakes possible. Was that one of the things that made you think he could guide meter in these big before. It was so a clips trained Tyson. An over the belly. Joe's will stay there. Were walking on the combinations of movement head movement and the speed and the feet were really similar that we can boxing can train. You know. So he's going to move up. Can I WANNA go with an officer? The Way Komo boat and then you hear his vase in the corner breaks the FE and just this knowledge of this book is broken these on the twenty seven. Yeah SMARTS WAY I. How actually apologized when he billy Joel was an was fighting. Someone in eastern. And you're in the corner and it was the first real appearance from you. Remember thinking it was a bad reform from billy Joel but remember thinking urgency in the corner but enhance sake. We nine Billie Joe wasn't fed and there was no word because every fucking if you'd have been too on top on the corner of Blue Gosden. Yeah you may have lost a fake. I have apologize for for what would be joe quite a few years before that and new obviously spend that training camp with him along with Jimmy Tibbs couple of weeks before five ways we Jimmy and I knew what was in the tank and I knew that we had to efficient in getting around management was very in Poland. Now what might be Joe take some out take and I know what doesn't so I knew when to push him on because the bill judge J fogg told him you'll stay around he was gonNA thank you ever to win the next round. We couldn't afford to do that. She was just about around. I think people always associate age of experience but I was lucky enough to spend time around people Jimmy Tubes and very knowledgeable guys which I gained a hell of a lot from a non round management. They something picks up from Jimmy tibbs unquote. That's the best about will the faces a new face on the managing high profile fights is that had it been Jimmy Tibbs in the corner. People would've assumed they obviously there's something going on with because it's you the first people reach for is does this guy know is doing and they look at your age and then say that's the about faces of training. I would like to think the performances in the corner over the last couple of years of giving people realize the what you're about the same as forty one performance and people jump on until fully. Understand that it's the same for everybody and anybody in high high profile situation. There's going to be downstairs. This'll your options for this year. And so this apponaug on some who's been mandated by the whole hangs told me there's there's no much online a couple of eight and it's only a few Ranjha so it does vary toll but it looks like he punched his heart but very wailed in so it raw keith. My on the ball. Nothing I don't think I can handle and I'm sure we'll get him and it's GonNa be if Shedu lineup is going to potentially a week or two before Pasta and Ramirez do you think about what's Outgo. Yeah it'd be for going and build for Boeing and I am to life and then pick up tips and hopefully put myself a fight after the end result and get myself a fight for their unification of the belts. It's good to be there as well as trying to make and just to be present. Boca players and people started talking about the more that Josh and say. I don't even know manufacturer with Sixteen Sixteen years. He's been completely undisputed author. Maybe a teen fakes. Yeah on real. It will take a little bit affirm- playing out. Because they're oversee mandate she's on both sides. Wbz will be cool next the winner of Possum Ramirez the WBO. I think we'll be called. Tau Closest amount in your Camp Castro. Do feel like he's been mandatory since time began and he's been waiting very patiently for quite recently sunny front war and said in an interview that John Wooden necessarily step aside. Fay So would mean that. Potentially you'd have to face. He would have faced winner. Puzzle Ramirez Wbai Mandatory. Which could be Whitson? If you Kinda plan this out and you're listening to oversee. Ideally I'd WanNa go forth Ramirez fake and obviously Kado take a step back and make the shot for all the marbles but please you know Jack Jack. Idaho's wait that long thing for today's short has been mandatory for a good while. No so is Joe. Short so happens I then so be it. They don't have to Ma other mandatory against a written or someone you know so I'm about what we goes day. I'm confident in every single.
Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?
"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

7 mistakes mutual fund investors make
"You we're gonna talk now about the seven mistakes that mutual fund investors make, and they're probably more. But these are the seven we're going to isolate. And I venture to say that you dear listener, probably make one or more of these. Okay. So let's go through those first of all, number one is failing to control expenses. Okay. So you want to look at what? The expenses are in your investments to make sure that you're not in too much of an expense situation. Number two, is you ignore risk? And one of the things that a lot of people do is they want to invest in the thing, that's making money at the time we try to find the sector, we want to be the biggest egregious error. I would say was back in the day when everybody was chasing technology. Stocks in Y, two K or leading up to the crisis in people are chasing real estate, and banking stocks, and that kind of thing. And so the thing that's making money, the time, everybody piled into and ignores, the risk of those investments because usually, if they've run up so high. Guess what? They're probably the one that's going down. Next one, you ought to be looking at maybe should be the one that's down right now. Not the one that's up. Okay. And that's also ignoring the risk of the investments that you're taking being overly aggressive. And number three is also tied in with that risk and set chasing returns that I was just talking about you buy something just because it's going up. So you have to look at the internal risk of the fund that you're investing in, and there are many places you can go to see that you can see the alpha of the fund, which is the excess return over its peers, and that it makes, and you can look at beta, which is the excess returns that the mutual fund is making over and above the stock market itself. Now it could also be negative. It could be making less returns than it should unless returns than the market number four. Ignoring funded size. Okay. Now, this doesn't necessarily apply if you're investing in index funds. But if you're investing in a managed fund, you wanna look at the size of that fund in my opinion because, for example, let's say you want to invest in a small cap fund, and so you have a manager, that's really good at that. And they've been doing very well, and because they've been doing so well, they've attracted a lot of money. Well, the problem that creates for the manager is that the more money comes in, they have to put that money to work, and they may have had their ten favourite socks that they bought. And that's why that fun did so well. And suddenly, they get a billion dollars that came in the door because they're doing well they got invest a billion dollars. They're already invested in their ten favourite socks. What are they gonna do? Now. They gotta start buying unfavored stocks. If you understand what I'm saying and next thing, you know, the return start hurting because they have to get the money to work. It just sits in cash. Their returns will hurt and everybody leave. So that's an issue that happens when a fund gets too big numb. Number five is style drift or also it's index drift. Okay. So what you want to look at is how well does the fund that you're investing in track the sector that you're trying to invest in? So, for example, let's say that you want to invest in technology again. Let's say you wanna buy a fund or ETF that invest in technology stocks. Well, what you wanna do is make sure how well does that fund or that index fund that you're buying that ETF track with the investments, you want because believe it or not, one of the most difficult things that index funds ETF's have is to track very closely the investments that they're invested in, that's where different show. But trust me on that one different ETF's track. The indexes that they're in differently, and so two different index funds, and you have to look at that number six be careful of narrowly focused funds because again, what you're trying to do there when you do. Do that. And since I'm using technology. I'll pick on it again. If you decide I think technology is the thing right now and I'm going to go invest in that you're making a bet, and we believe that for people who are retired or retiring soon making those kind of bets that's not your game anymore. Your game should be diversification. Spreading the risk around not concentrating it, and finding sectors that you want specifically, overweight. We don't believe that you should do that. So don't let that happen. And finally number seven. And this again, goes to manage funds, and that is not knowing who the fund manager is. And some of you listen to show maybe old enough to remember John wooden. John wooden was the coach of the UCLA Bruins. And they want something like eighty one games in a row. And they won all these national championships. I think it was eight national championships in a row. Some, some incredible success like that. And then that coach John wooden retired and the Bruins have never repeated what happened there. So you can definitely say that their success to a great degree was because of their coach and how he coached the team. Well a mutual fund manager is a lot the same thing. So if is very successful, and it's doing very well and you invest in it, but then the manager retires or gets lured away to manage different fund. And now you got a new person in their the fund that you're in may not perform the way it did under the former manager. Okay. Okay. So make sure you know who the manager of the fund is an are they knew have. They changed are the returns that you think this fund. That's is produced over the years. Are they is the person that made those still there? Okay. Don't just go by the name of the fund go by the manager. That's what you

"He suffered an injury early in the season we see greedy, greedy Williams sitting out of his bowl game at being projected as a top team guy. The expansion would bring more of those gains into the fall where we see these top ten top five players continue to play because the opportunity to win the national championship still hose, a major president in the mind of these athletes. And I also would would give you this town. If a player decided to sit out games that could potentially lead them to a national championship. I do think jerem manages and franchises on the next level with pay attention to that. But when you talk about the Baker sitting out of the Sugar Bowl, there's a team that has the jury Baker in their top five or top ten and they're saying, hey, the fact that he says his sugarbowl doesn't bother us any and it gives him more of an opportunity to go train earlier and also be healthy going into the pre-draft process. So that's just what you deal with the playoff created this. If you expand you get more games where you see more stars. But then the day it is going to water down those bowl games. That's not a part of trying to for a national championship. Talking to Marcus fear is a mortgage. Let me turn it back to the RN JR. Bowl. And to said today, he's eighty eighty five percents. That's great. That's better than most. Except the guy may be on the other side of the ball. But as a as a as a former defensive line than when you know that the quarterback you're rushing is not one hundred percent. What does that do to you? You do you you rush free. You you give it a little more. You take more chances. We you know, we were talking about earlier is funny down in you. And I talked about a little bit. The worst thing to happen for Georgia and SEC championship was Jalen hurts coming in. Because the way you go about attacking quarterback changes tremendously with both of those guys when you talk about Jalen ability to run. So when you look at two he's prolific from the pocket, we all know he can throw them all on a dime. Tight rope it in entice basis, but it's the buying of time that you lose. And when you're a defensive lineman that you rushing guys that you. So maybe a little Gifty or no that may be thinking about their injury a little bit. You tend to get on edges a little bit more as opposed to not doing that. When you think you can sacrifice him taking off for twenty or scamper like you did against LSU. You give you guys more of an opportunity to go is just like when you playing fast-break basketball. If you don't have guys that can give back on the other side of the ball, you go push the tempo. And that's what you're going to do as a defensive lamb with guy. That's not a hundred percent you push the tempo. You try to get guys rushing up the middle of the pocket, you tell you is look beat the taglibue one because we may be able to track him down because he's not at full strength. But I would beg Oklahoma to be very careful about doing that. Because and also something part. I don't think that a lot of people talked about being in the fall. I I would have to believe knowing that saving knowing Mike Loxley, how do you guys and prepare all season long it they have a plan for Jalen hurts in this game. You you cannot think for one minute that tour said here. Told us he's about eighty to eighty five percent. Alabama doesn't have a plan for Jalen hurts to come in and continue to make plays in compound on that success that he had against Georgia. So there's a lot of dynamics to two and not being one hundred percent. Eighty five percent to it is still in the top five percentile of quarterbacks in college football. But you have to be Leary if you will home a bout Jalen hurts in the plan for him. Just in case to does need to come out a few possessions..

"Brought to you by Holiday Inn, express be the radius, and Mark has always great to have you on. I know it's been a tough afternoon hanging at south beach for of. Loves the culture. Thank you. Okay. Having spent so much money down there. That's a mess. Molly concern. I have I have not beat down. But I tell you what is some nice digs around here, man. I'm very familiar with these parts, but but to actually be I was talking to Reese Dave's earlier today. And I said man, I never thought I'd be on on south beach in a suit talking about college football. It's weird. But as good. Well, it just the ark of your career has had in the last few months, Marcus, you've been a lot of places. Well, great to have you on. Let me ask you about the big news today out of New Orleans. And that's that the great quarterback. The Andre Baker is not going to play in the Sugar Bowl. We seen this so many times at other games. But the the Sugar Bowl still the sugarbowl. What do you make of that fall is it's the dynamic we live in now man, this part of the world we live in especially when you're talking about guys like the Baker who has the potential to be top ten picks. And I think the college football playoff in a way has disregarded the rest of the bowl games. That's not not involved. We still hold them to a high regard and hold them to a high standard in this opportunity for them to showcase their skill one more time, but for a lot of these guys they're not playing for national championship. I don't think they are incentivized to just go and say I won the Sugar Bowl or potentially suffering injury in the. Bowl when you weren't in the chase of a national championship came off a beer physical game against Alabama is will very devastating loss. And for where he's projected and for what his future looks like it doesn't surprise me at all. And we'll continue to see more of this happened. The college football playoff in two parts created this. But also think that we've been having all this discussion about expansion if you expand the college football playoff usually good players playing vying for national championships, and we will get a chance to see more of these guys play. I'm not a big proponent of expanding it, but that would be one of the symptoms that would be one of the remedies. But keep it some of these star studded players invested in their last year in college to get them to finish out strong. And Nick Saban said it today in one of his interviews Marcus that if you expand the playoff you're going to marginalize, these games even more in, and I know you you played in the Sugar Bowl and that won the national championship. Scored a touchdown. And it just seems like and I realize we're sounding old school here. But. It's just amazing to think about even the Sugar Bowl losing one of its top players. But but if if the field is expanded like savings said you do you agree. I mean, some of these games which are barely hanging on today. What are they going to look like? When you expand you expand to more bones. I don't I don't I don't agree with Nick when he says that the expansion is not to water it down. No matter what the town. Whether we go from four to six to eight the night, the the the ninth bowl game. Whatever is considered to be the ninth game or the ninth best team. That's not buying for national championship. Yeah. That bowl will get watered down as well. As the one that's considered to be the fifth placed team in the country right now as we're seeing with the dri Baker and Nick both decided to leave early I noticed the different circumstance, but.

"But every single thing that you have is the best thing is pretty boring to be that good. There's no Trump. He he's he loves to go out and recruit he got up to go out and evaluate and talk to kids. He loves that part of it. I mean, it's it's it's amazing. You know, I I hope I have have. That kind of energy when I'm sixty seven years old, right? And when you've built something, and there is no drop off. There's no sign of drop off. Why wouldn't you keep doing it? Why wouldn't you keep winning winning his fine? Does he feel maybe reenter? Does not may not even be the best word. But suddenly one of his disciples is over there. Doing a lot of what he has done Kirby. Smart and been very close to beaten them meets the last two times play. Let's not forget that and recruiting like gangbusters, I think that's the guy in no one's been able to beat him yet of his disciples. But I think Kirby's guy if you had to pick one right now what he's done the edge. Kirby has you know, he he he's playing for keeps. Make no mistake about that. And you could make you can make the argument that they probably should be or certainly right there position to be meets the last year. And I think that is going to be fascinating Paul sort of. What's the next layer in the whole saving? Where's he go from here is what can Kirby smart do against him over these next few years? We've been waiting for their e somebody opposite. Him once urban left the SEC who is it going to be an even a couple years ago, we were talking about well who are the great coaches in the SEC beyond Nick Sabin. Now, there is one who can challenge him in a way in this conference the way he hasn't consistent Arabian. There may maybe. Well, and I think you when you look at the league look look at his influence on the league, look at how many people head coaches coordinators in the SEC that coached for him. I think it's over half the teams have coordinator or head coach Paul that coats under Nick at some point. It's amazing. Some. I mean, I it's just his his tree coaches in and everybody's trying to beat him. Before we wrap it up on talk to you about two other programs. One UCF has been fairly quiet here. But they won't be quite if they beat LSU, and that's where you live. And of course, Dan Mullen, trying to silence the the Michiganders', I know that's a lot in your plate there but have at. Yeah. As far as the Michiganders go. I'm married to somebody who grew up in Ann Arbor, and his entire family is a bunch of Michiganders Davis condoling, you may Florida graduate so during bowl season when Florida has played Michigan. I've had to put my phone away because of the trash talk that has come through the text messages. But I don't think there's any question that Dan Mullen can show that the page truly has turned with this program and my beating Michigan because of what Michigan did the last two times they played under Jim mcelwain the bowl game in Orlando is an absolute embarrassment and then the opener. In Dallas was another embarrassing. So for for Florida truly show. All right. We're we're moving in the right direction. I think it's important to get a win in this game against this opponent that has caused so many problems for Florida as for UCF. They arrived today in Arizona to play LSU. And this is a confident team. I spent some time with them before I left to come down here..

"But that's just based on the fact that Arkansas broke thirty. Well, yeah. Yeah. Come on. Jason Kersee from the Atlantic. Giving us the oh you view of the Orange Bowl Saturday. Not many. Thanks. Great job. Yeah. Thanks for having me. We have much more to come a lot of conversation, including one about savings legacy and his future with crisslow a little bit later on. We have more guest to come as we are live in Miami listening to Paul finebaum show podcast. And we walked me back here in Miami on a windy. Blustery early winter day. You hear the phrase very often in these parts not too far from the Atlantic. Anyway, welcome back. Andrea Adelson in crisslow, and Chris you spent so much time chronicling Nick Sabin. But here we are realize he has to win Saturday and then the following Monday night and in California a week from Monday night. But at that point, we are I mean, we're already in the on rarefied air where where are we if he does it again? Paul. We're here two thousand twelve when they clobbered Notre Dame here in Miami. Which would have been their third and four years. And I remember saying I think we had this very conversation. I said, I know this is probably premature if people are going to snicker, but are we approaching what John wooden did at UCLA basketball? And I don't know that I really believe that at the time. But now here we are two more national championships later, potentially six later the thing that gets me though is look at what he's done it. And look at all the turnover if he wins the national championship this year it would be his six at Alabama his fifth different offense coordinator his fifth different starting quarterback his fourth different defensive coordinator. The guy at the top. That's been the constant in Alabama. But I think this is something Nick Sabin. We'll tell you we've had this conversation repeatedly. I think the on the rated part of their success there is that triumphant right there in the middle Nick Sabin streets. Coats caught Scott Cochran Jeff Allen the trainer. Those guys have been together since two thousand seven and we start talking about behind the scenes people what they've met their chemistry the way they've worked together. That to me has been as big a part as anything but make no mistake Nick Sabin system. Like Loxley told me today the offense coordinator, and he says the guy never slows down. But the thing that never changes his system and the way he goes about it. And I don't know maybe we are the wizard of Westwood is right up there. And I know I'm show on maids talking about John wooden that great stretch and basketball in the late seventies. But from football perspective, that's the closest thing. I can think of all that this would compare to throw this up in the air because saving wins..

"What is what's the what's the view from the from the oh you defense toward the Alabama quarterback situation? Because we you know to said today's eighty eighty five percent. Yeah. J one hundred percent, right. Doesn't matter. Yeah. No. I mean to has obviously transformed that Alabama offense into you know, he's sort of been the thing. It feels like that Nick savings always been missing is that game changing quarterback. But Jalen hurts is a really good quarterback to and and I think he showed in that SEC title game. He's improved a lot as a passer from you know, when I was watching him last year. So yeah, the interesting thing is Oklahoma's had to most a lot of times this season gone into a game. Unsure what quarterback they're going to see it was that way against I was state. There were a couple of others. I can't think of Baylor. I think was that way. They weren't sure who they were gonna be facing. That's one thing. They're kind of used to and. But in both instances the quarterbacks had big game. So I don't think that's really going to matter. All that much was your realist. And and and that's one reason why we've always had a great time talking. You I understand fans fans are fans. And I mean, there's bad on one side is the other but in terms of realistic football acumen looking at this game. What's the path for Oklahoma to win while they're going to have to outscore them? I mean, that's that's that's that's the bottom line. I know that sounds very obvious. But I mean, that's what you know last year. I think there is a path for you to win the schedule as I mean, I think that the fourteen point spreads seemed a little high to me, I think that it's going to be closer than that. You know? Oh, you their offense is so good. Kyle Murray is so good and Lincoln Riley is such good offense of coach that they're gonna find ways to score points. Now, the problem is is that they're playing the second best offense in the country with the hundred best defense in the country. I I look at what happened last year against Georgia. They scored a lot of points against a really good Georgia defense that never gave up points like that the rest of the year and almost one and came very close to winning in overtime. And I think that's sort of what they're going to have to do. They're just gonna have to score and hope that Alabama turns the ball over once or or maybe there's one or two they find a way to get a couple of stops. That's that's been sort of their recipe. The last couple of weeks in Morgantown, they gave up a lot of points. But they got they scored two defensive touchdowns against Texas individual title game. They gave up some yards, but they had a safety, and they had some things like that. So that's what it's gonna take. And it's I there certainly and underdog I'm not picking them to win. But I think there is a there is a path for them to win this game for you think it will be closer than the number. I think it's going to be closer than to touch. Yeah. I do just because of how well they can score points and how good. Taylor murray. I'm not trying to turn you into Danny Sheridan here. But but go ahead and try. What what what what does that score? Look like, then if it's closer than the spread. But still an Alabama win. Oh, you know. I don't know fifty to forty five forty nine forty nine forty two something. So you're saying, you, you you clearly are saying you think Oklahoma can break forty on album. I do I do I think they're that good on offense..

"Mentors brother on that? But in the defense has gotten so much better since Stu. Yeah. Well, yeah. But headed. I'm really interested in Turnley shoot. As before. I was with a former head coach in the big twelve and we were talking about Oklahoma. He said, well, he's Lincoln stuck. There's no way ever firing. Bob's brother. Yeah. No. I think a lot of us thought that that was very unlikely to happen. And then that Texas game the first one was such a disaster defensively that a kind of felt like after that he was going to have to do something. And I don't think that was easy. I think I was really hard for him. You know, Mike, not only is Bob's brother. He helped build that program into what it is today in the early thousands when he was defensive coordinator the first time, and it just didn't work second time. It's just it's hard to get the band back together. Okay. Well, it it hasn't worked since he left. But but but that's on him. He's the pitcher of record. So it's easy for me who watches an Oklahoma game in passing, and you know, maybe pays more attention to the Texas game or. The Oklahoma state game or the West Virginia game when it when I'm not doing something else. But but the tell me this in the pantheon of big time college football teams that matter and really matters when you're playing in the semi final how bad is this Oklahoma defense. Oh, they're the worst defense certainly that's ever been in the college football playoff. And if they find a way to win, which I know is sort of a long shot that would I sort of think that would change a lot about the way we view college football because this defense their offense is so good and their defense is so bad the sort of the worst defense, and I can remember I don't know about you winning national titles Auburn with Cam Newton and they were in the fifties. I mean, this defense is in the hundreds on these categories. They're just outscoring people. And I think they're going to score points against Alabama. But they're going to have to score a lot of points because Alabama's got a really good offense to they're they're not a good defense. They played a little bit better in the big twelve championship game. But Texas is not Alabama. Offensively or even close to it. So yeah, I it's it's not a good defense and anybody who says that it is crazy other than everything. What works what is most effective against Oklahoma's defense? Well, they haven't been great. I mean, the secondary has been seen confused at times this is, you know, they're they're very young the the the defensive line. I think is a big problem. It's gotten a little bit. They've recruited a little bit better. They've started to get some of those guys in that they need to the last couple of years Lincoln Riley, really made that a priority. But that's where I think things really started to go south for this defense was was when they stopped recruiting those big time defensive lineman like Gerald McCoy and Tommy Harrison guys that they had in the early parts of the stoops era, they stopped they stopped being able to recruit and attract those guys, and they're they're paying for it. I think that's kind of where it all starts talking to Jason Kersee covers the Oklahoma centers for it for the athletic. If you hear some sound that you're driving along. It's. About a twenty five mile an hour wind down here in south Florida gets worse. We're hoping it doesn't. Well. We here. We've already had to move once today. So in terms of the Obama situation. Sorry about that. I think some seaweed came in..

"Express, be the radius and Jason great to have you back on the program. It is always a pleasure. So let's talk you've covered Oklahoma for you. You had a brief I mentioned dalliance with the SEC. Something like that you took a job somewhere that we. But for the most are how long have you covered Oklahoma first year was twenty twelve so on, you know, but not accounting for that little dalliance with the SEC about six seven, whatever everyone has a dalliance with it. It's just it's ingrained. You can't avoid. It's good to be back though in conference that has silly slogans and contrived controversies over hand gestures, and you know, horns up for peace. We don't do that here. Yeah. We just play football. Now win. You covered Arkansas in full disclosure, you're so, yeah, let's talk about a Oklahoma. And I was talking to you off the air about Bob about Bob stoops. So he retires and. Furthermore, hasn't missed too much with two Heisman Trophy winners in a row, right? Yeah. I mean, it's been a very seamless transition. I think that has to do with when he did it in the summer didn't really allow for much disruption the staff, basically stayed the same. So I think all of those things really contributed to that that being very smooth. And also Lincoln Riley is very very good coach, very smart still sort of finding his way I think I think firing Mike stoops's year was really bold move because it was his brother's or is..

"But ultimately, they believe if we go to us. Yeah. This is coach speak. If we go do us, then that narrative will absolutely change when that games open. And before you go I want to talk to you about Brian Kelly national coach of the year by by the two years ago four and eight a lot of whispers about and calls really for his job in in some quarters. He he didn't major redo then like it like you talked about in twenty twelve. I mean, just massive changes on his coaching staff and ten and three and a perfect record this year. Tell us about him. It's an interesting point. I made an inference when I was up there chatting with coach Kelly and south bend. It was a lengthy conversation. Twenty twenty five minutes, and I said to him coach forgive the inference. But to me, my perspective is that you're a softer person that you are appreciating the moment of coaching Notre Dame more than you were earlier in your tenure. And he said, I think you're right. I think I am because he said to me that that two thousand sixteen year he was looking at a picture of his family, and he realized that he didn't see his family. And that if that is the case if that is the sacrifice that he and his family have to make in order for him to coach Notre Dame. Then he is dam. Sure. Gonna enjoy the opportunity and the journey in the process of coaching these young men at Notre Dame. And it has he's taken a bit different approach and the player. Are responding to it. And he has noticed that his players have noticed that. And it's I mean, they're undefeated. So something's working. This is a new Notre Dame. It seems to me. Great stuff as always Marty Smith out in Arlington mardi. We'll talk to you soon. And thank you for making time. Thank you, brother freesheets. You got a great stuff there from out in Texas right here in Miami gardens, Florida. We'll get some perspective on the Oklahoma side. Jason Kersee covers his team has covered them. Most of the his career a brief dalliance with the SEC, but he's back covering the Sooners as envoy Gavin.

"Bring that up because Notre Dame while it's had success still in some people's eyes rightly or wrongly seems haunted by what happened where I am six years ago. We just got through talking to Mike Golic junior. And a lot has been written and said about that this week. What are you sensing talking to these players? They're now back on a huge stage in college football. Well, Paul there's no question that that two thousand twelve national championship loss to Alabama which was a dominant performance by the tide. Still hangs over in Notre Dame program certainly the fan base there still halted by. And I was up in south bend for a couple of days ahead of this. Cotton Bowl chatting with coaches and players and that came up, and I had an extensive conversation with Brian Kelly about it. And he said he learned a ton in that game that evening number one. He felt like his team was physically prepared that night. They were not mentally prepared for the stage of the national championship. He told me look we're Notre Dame we play in huge venues on huge stages all the time. So I just assumed this is just another one of those stages. He said they weren't in that he said that was on me that they weren't mentally prepared. He also is quick to say that might be the greatest collaboration of talent that being Alabama. That he's ever seen that two thousand twelve Alabama group. So people tend to forget how great that Alabama team was. But the number one thing he said he learned that night. Paul was this is program needed a complete overhaul all its defense special teams recruiting player development, all of it. And now here they are six years later with another opportunity to buy for a national championship all of those players on this team, despite the fact that none of them were at Notre Dame yet at that point are very aware of that game. And they feel like this time that the internal leadership in that locker room is such that they will be prepared for the stage. This time drew tranquil the great linebacker that they have who won the world trophy for being just a tremendous human being. He's a great young, man. He said to me, even though we're the one team in this playoff that has not competed in it yet. We feel like we have because of the cohesion and the leadership in that locker. They seem Paul like they're ready for this. In Marty on top of even that, there's there's just. On unusual feeling about Notre interesting. It's just like we know a lot about everyone else. And I that sounds ridiculous considering Notre Dame is still Notre Dame. They play on a big stages pretty much every week of the season. They played a really good schedule. But do they feel at all disrespected by by college football right now? But when was the last time in terms of a national championship caliber potential that they were nationally relevant. I mean, it's been alive. Just just that's just the truth. And so here, they are not only relevant but undefeated and the national narrative is that they can't beat Clemson. And they're very aware of that. I've been discussing it for most of this day their quarterback Ian book who's had a tremendous season. And is difference maker for that program? Everyone of the Clemson defenders described him as a baller to me today. They're like man that dude is good. So he is well respected among the country group. But in terms of the doubt that drives Notre Dame. It's very real for many of them book told me that there is indeed a chip on their shoulder entering this game. Because so few people believe they can be Clemson Vegas as there are thirteen point underdog there an undefeated team who's played a respectable schedule, and there are thirteen point underdog. So they're very aware of the outside noise. It certainly drives some individual players. Maybe not all of them. But I asked Brian Kelly about that doubt today Paul and he said, look they're also really good team him talking about his own team Notre Dame. They're also really good players. And so are they motivated by doubt, maybe to a degree?.

"Being with us. All these great to have you on at media days today. What what was your biggest takeaway? Thank you for having me, brother. I love being a part of your show. Obviously the biggest story today was Dexter Lawrence. The Clemson defensive tackle all American making the decision despite being given the out if he wanted to skip the media day today, he chose to face the media. And basically said look I have no idea how that substance got in my body. I have no idea how to explain it. But I'm not a selfish person. And it's nothing I would ever do purposefully. And he addressed that. I mean, I bet he got asked thirty questions in a row about it Paul and he answered everyone with great patience. And that was the big story here. I also had the opportunity to run down. Brandon wimbush the backup quarterback for Notre Dame. It's come out in the past couple of days to Brandon is considering transferring from Notre Dame after this season, and I asked. Brandon about the process, and what his thoughts were he said he won't make that decision. Until after Notre Dame is done playing football this season. But that sometimes you have to look out for yourself. And I discussed it with Brian Kelly Notre Dame's head coach after I talked to Brandon and coach Kelly said look that guys meant everything to this program. We'd love to have him back. But he absolutely should look at all options. He's earned that right? Mar you let me go back to that's an interesting comment there. Let me go back to Lawrence situation. I know what he said. And certainly we don't know exactly what's going on. But but what it what is the the situation in terms of Saturday and beyond. I mean, what are we what are what are you being told? What what do, you know? I know this clemson's operating if in practice perspective Paul that he's not going to be playing that's been the case all week long and ever since he told me today that when Davos weenie called him to tell him that he had tested positive for this substance rain, I think it's called. I'm no doctor. But I think that's how you pronounce it that he was in shock that. He looked pull took his phone off his ear and looked at his phone. Like, man, why are you messing with me like this? What are you talking about? And so he was shocked about it. But from that moment on Clemson has been extremely transparent, and they have operated as if Lawrence is not gonna play in the other two players involved as well. Lawrence being the marquee one. His backup is certainly capable advert. Huggins a very good player in his own, right? Who's gotten plenty of rips this year? So they don't expect the tone of fall off even if Lawrence can't play. Even though Lawrence's a substantial difference maker in the middle of that defensive line. That's full of all Americans in terms of his future. He's not really looking at far down the road yet. It was broached with him today during the media session. But he said right now his focus is to hopefully play in this game. Although it looks bleak. And then see what the future looks like once they know that answer and that B-sample comes back. Genuine Marty Smith who who is in Texas right now for this huge game on on Saturday Marty you mentioned the wind Bush situation, and I.

"I it's always a part of any bowl game other than maybe the ones that are played the first week you've played in BCS championship games you played in sugar balls other New Year's day. Both how do you deal with the end of the season three four weeks ago to now that's a long time. It's hard. I feel like when when I was in school. There are sometimes we did it. Well, and sometimes we could have improved out. And I it's there's so many variables in it that some coaches can really create a huge edge. Right. I mean, if you look at from the last time these teams played you have, you know, over a dozen practices that I mean, that's like spring, right? You get a chance to improve your young guys. But maybe they can step in and play. You got a chance to add to your death. You get a chance to really work on some things come out with some new wrinkles and some new formations and trick place. So. If you're good at it. You can really improve. And one of the interesting things that Alabama does is they round something called fourth quarter. And right when they finished the SEC championship game. And that's to get their guys ready to face a no huddle offense in in Cuyler Murray in Oklahoma. So they're ready. So they're big guys are in shape for the fourth quarter. So they don't it doesn't happen to them. What does Shawn Watson happened when they had a hundred place couple years ago talking to Jim Tibo about this game in there, quite a few other games as well. I do wanna get a thought on the Clemson noted him game. Clemson may very well. I think they're going to be without dick stroke arts, who's the big anybody that squad. Well, I went back, and I watched most almost every single one of Notre Dame's games and watching them the few things that stand out to me is they're extremely well coached. I mean, extremely well coached. They have great game plans. They're in good position. And they play really really hard. But also watching them is really. Allies that their players God-given ability. Just does not match up to clemson's right? They mean in their recruiting battle in drafting is the next level. It's not even going to be close. So for for speed for size breath, lettuces Clinton's got a huge edge. I think a key for for Notre Dame is Ian book and can he equalize it from the quarterback position? And can he make plays down the field with his arm because coach Kelly's going to put him in positions with some good route combinations to give him a chance, but that's going to be the key. And we've seen the the only place where Clemson is kind of vulnerable is their secondary. And we saw that was South Carolina scoring thirty five and should have been forty nine points against him throwing for over five hundred yards, and that's a south gone offense that wasn't necessarily that good. But they expose Clemson a little bit. And we'll see if Notre Dame tries to expose a few of those areas as well. Jim before you go, and we'll have plenty of time to talk about this all this this weekend..

"And I truly don't think he's he's necessarily that intimidated by Alabama. I think he feels that this offense and Lincoln Riley and his receiving core or ready to to go toe to toe with the best in the country, and that has Alabama. I also don't think he's faced a team like Alabama. I don't necessarily know that he knows just how how good and how complicated this Nick Sabin defense is and I do think Tyler we'll have some success in this game. But will be enough to be able to match Alabama's offense. I think that's the biggest question we were going through his season couple of weeks ago. I mean, we found like one quarter where he was not playing his game. And you can't zero in on that. But there's any any quarterback can have a bad couple of minutes. But, but he hasn't had many not many he he is someone that when he has had his opportunity he is made the most of it. And he's someone that in a good way has a lot of pride. He really wants to show people what he's all about and didn't necessarily get that shot at AM and sat behind Baker for longer than he expected. And and and the people around him new, hey, he he's gonna step up is going to show out, and he really has this year. And I think something that that Oklahoma can really rally around in this game is Kylie and his belief that that they're not intimidated by this Alabama team because we've talked about so many times teams lose before they play Bama, but I don't think that's going to happen with us Oklahoma team. And the other thing that we heard from a lot of players today, and and reading them and hearing what they had to say is there going to be aggressive? They're gonna go after Bama, they're not going to sit down for, you know, and it'd be patient for kind of a slow death. I think they're going to be very aggressive on offense defense and special teams in and that's such an interesting point, Tim because you're right. A lot of teams do lose to Alabama before they play. Really, I I can't think of more than two or three all year that that don't Auburn doesn't LSU probably doesn't enjoy clearly does. Yes, that's really about it though. But, but but you know, a and then played a good game. But they still lost by twenty three points. How do you psychologically because there's not too much other way around it get ready for alabam? Well, I think you get ready for Alabama one by recruiting religion players. And I think when you prepare is you don't make it all about bam on how great they are dominating. The last decade. It's about us. It's about our team. It's about we're being aggressive. We're hitting them in the mouth. We're coming out swinging nonstop. I think that's the approach when we have seen teams do that. Now, you don't always win. But those are the teams that have been affected. I think that's a huge freeze attacked him. When he was at ole miss and that team play with confidence they took shots after shots after shots. I think when auburn's been successful. That's what they've done in the rare when Oklahoma beat Alabama in the sugarbowl with Trevor Knight several years ago, that's what they did down the field because it's too hard to go. You know, three yards in the cloud of dust and win at the line of scrimmage against Alabama. You win when you have a leap. Makers on the outside or an elite quarterback that that can create huge place. Tim the other part of this game..
College Football Playoff update: Ohio State's loss makes room for Michigan
"Look Michigan is still got a clear line to the college football playoff for the first time on Jim Harbaugh and all those people that were calling for hall to be fired right and time to move on after the Notre Dame game. But patients that John wooden. You should come visit virtue. Yeah. Shut up to Ohio State is still has a shot at the college football playoff evening.
