"Dot com slash Medicaid and have your whole family with the same health plan. Virginia premier focused on Virginia, focused on you. John Williams, when armed guards can't stop the shooter, we need to start thinking about the wisdom of guns in schools. More woes for the White Sox we'll talk about that. Some speedy jokes, the news of the day, plus your calls. That's all coming up. Today at ten. Live live from the city that never sleeps. 17 miles from Madison Square Garden, New York City. It's America at night with rich valdes, America's favorite late night talk program, featuring interesting guests from around the world and calls from across America and now, here is your host, rich valdes. Hi there, good evening, and what's up America I am rich valdes valdes with an S, by the way, at rich valdes on all of the social media and our phone number if you want to join this late night national town hall. You're welcome to do so. We are live right now, 8 three three four valdes a three three four 8 two 5 three three 7. And a couple of big stories that are coming on tonight. Happy Monday, by the way. We've got this Kentucky bank shooter. I'm gonna give you the rundown on that from the police. Statement as well as what's going on with the latest with a story out from some requests that were put into the government like foia type request and they reveal that somehow The White House had requested special access. To the Mar-a-Lago raid, so we're going to look into that as well. But I have a little bit of audio from this police chief with respect to the shooting that happened in Kentucky. I'm not going to play at all. This is Jacqueline gwynne Villarreal, the Louisville interim police chief at a press conference earlier today, listen to this. Officers were on the scene within three minutes. The suspect shot at officers, we then returned fire and stopped that threat. The suspect is deceased. This is the only time that I will mention the suspect name in this case. The suspect has been identified as Connor sturgeon. White male, 23 years of age, who was employed at O national bank. His weapon of choice was a rifle. We have 5 total deceased, which includes him. But I want to acknowledge with heartfelt, condolences, prayers to the family of those who lost their life today. Tommy Elliott, 63 years of age. Jim tutt, 64 years of age. Josh Barrett, 40 years of age, and giuliana farmer. 57. We have a total of 9 victims who were treated and are being treated at a university of Louisville hospital. Three, which are in critical condition, including our officer, three who are listed in non critical condition and three who have been treated and released, the two officer who struck in exchange of gunfire, one of the officers, he was graced to the left side, and the other officer suffered minor injuries to the elbow. I just want to let everyone know that the officer who was in critical condition today officer Nicholas wilt. 26 years of age, just graduated from the police academy on March 31st. I just swore him in and his family was there to witness his journey to become a police officer. He was struck in the head, engaged in this incident. Nick has come out of brain surgery and is in critical but stable condition as we speak. All right, I give the police chief an interim police chief. Jack Lynn villa real. It's the name that I have here. And a little bit about the shooter here. The shooter Connor sturgeon 25 years old, and I understand we're not supposed to say his name, so you can hold those calls. I will just refer to him as the shooter. Anyway, he apparently has been posting things online that were anti Trump pro and pro lockdown, according to some analysis in the post millennial. Let me just see if we can get into that because I want to get into this at the top of the next hour, but I wanted to give you a little bit of an update on it. But apparently he was very critical of Fox News host Tucker Carlson. In one of his tweets and. Referred to Trump as saying, every time Trump tweets some racist S word, the strong character responds with the Trump portion of the comment being added in later in a different font. I do one push up. All right, I'm not getting the context of that, but apparently he's not a big fan of el Tron pitot and all this Magnus the 45th president of these United States. El presidente. So that's what we know as of now, obviously there was more. But this is the equivalent of when I was younger. People used to call this going postal. Now it's mass shooting and whatnot. But back in the days it was called going postal and it was because most postal employees were infamous for this for losing their minds, so to speak. And going in there and hurting people. And it was a term that was used colloquially as, oh, so and so I was going to go postal. This guy's going postal. It became again a colloquialism that we use that in the 90s and 2000s and one, at least as far back as I can remember. I'm sure it's it went on way before my time as well. But it's interesting how that's changed and it no longer belongs to those who worked in the postal service who, you know, at the time, a lot of hype in it. Research that was reviewed and whatnot. But what it ultimately, what it ultimately showed me was that they owned it, and now they don't. Right now it's all over the place. Everybody can quote unquote, go postal, if you will. So I found that to be interesting. And again, we're going to bring in a bring in a guest at the top of the next hour to jump into this story. But I also wanted to switch gears a little bit and talk about what's going on with report that Breitbart News is coming

"On the John Williams show. All right, America, welcome back. It's Richard valdes valdes with an S forgive me if I sound a little distracted tonight it's because I am multiple screens information flying all over the place we have our guest on the line professor Nick jordano. He's the host of the PAS report, follow him at PAS report on the social media. And before we get back into our conversation, I just want to say the Washington examiner is reporting as of 1117 p.m. Eastern Time that governor Kathy hochul has been elected the first female governor of New York defeating challenger Lee zeldin. I'm not seeing this reported anywhere else. It hasn't been called by The Associated Press or any of the other larger news organizations. It's just the Washington examiner that is reporting this and they're not citing why they've made the call. So I'm just giving you that as I'm getting it. Nick jordana, what's your reaction? NBC also called it for hulk Ho, but it's still it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Only 64% of voters in Suffolk county hasn't even been counted yet. According to The New York Times Zelda is down by about 500,000 votes and you have a number of counties that have reported in. So it's a little bizarre that they're calling it. And I don't know why. Maybe the only way I could see them calling the race is if the only ballots left the mail in ballots may be early voting ballots, but if all the mail in ballots are counted first, which usually the case in New York, then that doesn't make any sense to call this race to me. Yes, I would agree. And again, all things considered, I am not a down the middle news man. I've never been a newsman in my life. I'm a political guy. Lean conservative and I want to see Lee south of the governor in New York. All that being said, of course, we're going to fair fight. And I think all things I've seen, it has been one, let's just see if this is actually the case. And I'm guessing it's going to be the case. I can't imagine NBC News and the Washington examiner making that call. But we will keep you posted on that as we move forward. So let's talk about that though because I think Lee zeldin ran an amazing campaign based on what to me were the big issues. Crime, the fact that his 16 year old teenage daughters had a duck for cover and their bathtub when they were doing their homework and their living room because bullets were flying in front of his house and the guy's a congressman and he lives in a nice neighborhood. That's how bad crime is getting. I mean, that story blows me away. And the fact that you've got president Obama, president Clinton, coming to New York to campaign for hulk to give her the bump to get over the edge there. And saying, crime is a fabrication of the Republicans. How do you react to that? Yeah. The whole thing's insane. I mean, you know, the reality is, I don't care if you're a Democrat of Republican. Whatever you want, the state of New York is not good right now. Crime is surging. The economy is extremely poor. People have been leaving the state and drove because the cost of living is just too much. You have the overbearing government that comes down on you for every little thing. And it really is astonishing to me that people keep voting the same way. I mean, in certain communities, you can't even walk out your door when people are getting shot in front of a congressman's home. It tells you everything you need to know about the condition of the state. But the Democrat machine is certainly strong here. There's no doubt about it. But people, unfortunately, have gotten into the mindset where they got to vote political party over their own self interest. And that's what we see in a lot of elections, right? A lot of people just wrote trade party line rather than looking to the candidates. And it doesn't matter how bad their communities are. I mean, you look at just blindly vote. Right? Yep, hey, Nick, hold on right there. We are kicking me out. The music means you gotta go, shut it up. Not you, me. But let everybody know where they could find you quickly. They'd go to PAS for four dot com or if I'm in a social media PAS report. Thank you. All right, that's right. Professor Nick jordano gotta have you back, time goes too quickly. "On the John Williams show. Welcome back to the Jim bohannon show at one 8 6 6 5 O Jimbo. One 8 6 6 5 O 5 four 6 two 6 in our guest. The CEO of the job creators network, Alfredo Ortiz and here is Robert in Charleston, South Carolina, good evening. Good evening, Jim. The competition between Barry Goldwater and Lyndon Johnson in 1964, you remember they were the Johnson was telling a pretty live about the new great society program and Barry Goldwater was telling about the truth about what we could really expected about what he could really do. He was a brilliant man. This reminds me of probably a moon in the darkness. The truth is inconvenient to all used to say in Russian. And this is a perfect case of that to believe. Because what very global water Said. turned out to be true and what Linda Johnson promised to be turned out to be a total failure. And so in that regard, Alfredo Ortiz very Goldwater, I guess, was a man about a generation ahead of his time. The truth isn't convenient. And in this particular case, as much as the Biden administration wants to run away from the truth, I mean, it's catching up with him, you know, this idea that they like they're saying that there's no recession, for example, that there's no inflation. They don't like calling that, right? Jim. So guess what? I'm like, all right, let's not call it that. Let's call it what it is. Stagflation. Stagflation. That's exactly what they've created. And by the way, Jim, I got to go all the way back to that stateful day, the first day of the Biden administration because a lot of what we're facing right now. And by the way, even the war in Ukraine. And the activity that's happening out there with Russia. I'll go all the way back to that first day of the Biden administration when he declared war on fossil fuel fuels here in the United States because by doing so, he literally led to a global instability of basically energy across the globe. Yes. I have not understood about the Democrats. First of all, of course, we had Joe Biden saying right after the election of the 2020, but before he took office, I beat the socialist. Meaning Bernie Sanders, and I have to think there are days when Bernie Sanders wakes up and he said, you know, this doesn't look like the Lincoln bedroom, but I swear I must have won. I just read the headlines. I mean, that's one thing. And then, of course, there was that ridiculous inaugural address in which the president, through somebody's words, promised to be the unifying healing president. And I remember thinking at the time, okay, he's going to try that attack. He could be the hard nosed partisan. He has that right to do so, but why would you set yourself up for failure by claiming to be the unifier? And then ripping the country to shreds. And I just never understood that. The Democrats apparently earned the impression that AOC is the future. The AOCs of the world couldn't carry three dozen congressional districts in this country. The hard crazy left, the left of CRT in the left of being woke and the rest of that. That's not the future. And I just find it amazing that the Democrats have bought into that. None of the future is the bread and butter Democrats I think I may not agree with them that my goodness they can win elections and I don't get this worship of the crazy left, do you? No, not at all. And look, I mean, failing in Europe. I mean, and so the more I think the Democrats embrace the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, frankly, the easier it's going to be for the GOP to win. But I will say this one thing. Sometimes the GOP does make some odd decisions in terms of what they ended up pushing. So fortunately though, I think there's been a clear focus this time around in terms of what it's going to take and what they need to talk about to make sure that they do win in November. You got to give McCarthy a lot of credit for his commitment to America that he just rolled out. Because that is actually a great plan that clearly starts articulating what they will actually be doing when they take the house of reverses just saying vote for us because we don't suck. Yeah, well, really, I agree, totally. Here's the call from John and Fresno, California, good evening. Thank you for taking my call. This may be kind of topic, but I've always wondered why Jerome Powell or yeltsin or somebody in the administration hasn't put waste price control on And. for us, like it did when the Carter administration had run away inflation of what it was 18% on T bills and stuff. Other than a T-shirt here to three weeks ago when he was $14 that same T-shirt now is 30 bucks. So you're what are you suggesting that we need wage and price controls is that what you're suggesting, John, I'm not sure. I think so. I think it was. All right. Well, let's let our guest respond to that. They don't have a good history of working that well, do they Alfredo? No, they certainly don't, and obviously that's not something that I would support wage and price controls. Let the economy do what it needs to do. I mean, the reason why we do have these kinds of high spikes in terms of prices is because we have a deteriorating supply chain. And we don't have the right production capabilities, especially when it comes to domestic energy. I mean, remember that when it comes to overall input, right? I mean, everything requires energy basically to reproduce. And we went from energy independence to energy dependence. And that was the biggest issue. I mean, there's a clear fix for this, Jim. It's really easy. They just need to turn the spigots back on here in the United States. Stop going to Venezuela, stop going to Saudi Arabia, which, by the way, just summed their nose at Biden by now saying they're going to cut production. Yes. Right? Thank you. Under our feet, we just need to let the let the spigots

"The bright side of life with John Williams Friday's at 1245 Welcome back to the jumbo Hannah chode 26 6 5 O Jimbo in 866-505-4626 We don't have to worry about rare Earths or lithium Hack the Chinese will help us out Good heavens the level of naivete that exists out there Llewellyn king is our guest from the television program of White House chronicle As we take some calls for you here I want to ask you about do we face an actual shortage of these particular substances in the United States or in friendly territory or are we simply not looking for them No we are actually going to lithium which is not a rare earth It's a very vital metal though The world we live in today if you look at lithium the there is an actual shortage The Chinese are also suffering shortage The reason is that we are turning very quickly to electrical appliances and electrical vehicles and it takes years to open a new mine with all the incentives on earth lithium is often procured when it's procured in Latin America It's done by ponds which are allowed to evaporate to pump up Brian out of the under assault pan and you let it takes 24 just to one treatment takes about 24 months it's very slow mines are slow to open There are a lot of environmental issues there are a lot of political issues and just technical issues And the technology of handling these metals have my name and processing them is it so evolving It is not an established science We know how to get copper out of the ground We know how to get on and we're still learning how to get most of these rails and certainly lithium Hobart all comes from the Congo Can you just think of that How about which is another essential all comes from the hunger and you know what an unstable place that is and the environmental consequences of mining there I'm sure are horrendous Call from Paul and zanesville Ohio now good evening Paul And to your guest I have some good news and all this And you answered a lot of my questions right there but you just said up about 40 miles from me here in new oatmeal Ohio the European chip plant a $20 billion chip plant all of this is going to last where would they take in your turn in one of those flat batteries over and it says lithium on the back Where do they get this So where do they mine So I guess you just kind of answered my question But is there any place like in the United States maybe then that we could mine to get like lithium and so forth if I'm following there is some mining just starting lithium is found pretty well all over the world but the quality of the deposits varies It's very difficult because it's always associated with something else It's not like gold You crack open The Rock and there's the gold You couldn't see it And you can get it out with some ease And we are mining some of these but we are such an infinitesimal producer I think when producing about 1% of the world so that Zimbabwe which I know something about because I grew up there They've got a fairly active lithium mine but it's still a tiny percentage The big producers are in the triangle of countries in Latin America in Australia and in China itself But it all goes to China Most of it goes to China to be processed It's very unfair at sealed commodities story If you buy an electric school bus for example in Argentina the lithium the drives it was mined there probably sent to China process there put into a battery in China then into a bus built in China and the value all the value in that value change If that difficult for a country like Argentina to do this on their own it seems they would make a lot of senses to hang on to it They're all trying to do it A little bit here and there There was an attempt in Bolivia which on paper has the largest reserves but has produced hardly any because of local resistance because what is the local I mean obviously there's money to be made here and workers to be paid What's the resistance about Well because it's very it takes up a lot of land It's environmentally damaging and the high end is what it is And you have traditional lands You have tribal lands You have religious lands You have resistance And you have government instability There was a coup in Bolivia under the Morales who was the previous president There was some move to develop not only lithium mine but secondary uses for lithium keep some of the value in the country but it didn't work out And they still really haven't become a producer But they're part of that triangle The other two countries as I mentioned are Chile and Argentina Tribal considerations are key You could look at other historical things In Bolivia many reasons they move people around over the years and there's a lot of unhappiness and resistance to movement And it's very hard to explain to very simple people living very simple traditional lives that there's going to be some huge economic advantage when a foreign company comes in and does it And except for some labor they don't see any large benefit Well maybe we should speak slowly and lose small words with them Here's Tom and port Angeles Washington good evening Hello mister king hello to Jim Bo thanks for taking my call Sure Once electricity is created Yeah It's a commodity Okay And how do we keep and how do we keep the grid separate from cars because if we don't everybody across the country that's got an electric car is going to arrive is going to drive our power our power bills way high and not if we increase our capacity obviously increase the demand should mean increased supply but I'll defer to the well Actually that's a very interesting subject The utilities believe that if there are a lot of electric vehicles those electric vehicles can be pulled upon to put electricity into the grid when it is needed and so it will be they will function very much like a solar panel on your roof when you can sell the excess back to and they are looking forward to establishing a huge reserve like nearly 500,000 school buses We've all gone electric They could be a huge way of storing electricity and pumping it into the grid In the peak demand times But yes there will have to be more electricity produced And that does not seem to bother the utilities at all I've had a lot of reporting on it done a lot of holding talk to a lot of people Texas largely because of data mining They are expecting up to a threefold increase in electricity demand but they're quite they feel like a meat And they think they can using the electric vehicles and collaborating with owners with rebates that are yet some money back for you so your.

American Thinker: The Bad Inflation Numbers Are Even Worse Than the Government Says

"You've been hearing that inflation is at a 40 year high That we haven't seen this kind of inflation since 1982 And the ladies and gentlemen that would be bad enough But Andrew Whitmer over at American thinker points out that 40 year numbers misleading Deflation is obviously shot up with incredible speed as happened in 1982 But real inflation is probably worse Than the accelerated rate suggests That's because in 1990 The government changed how a calculated inflation something it also did in 1980 So it did it in 1990 And the George H. W. Bush and did it in 1980 under Carter John Williams shadow government statistics calculates inflation as it would have been calculated before 1980 And before 1990 according to his numbers inflation would have been over ready 15% using pre 1980 metrics and over 10% using pre 1990 metrics

"Based solely on actual numbers leading indicators as to where things are gone and without we could predict things six to nine months into the future with some degree of accuracy and work well on sold. Well the only problem was the government. This is back in the seventies now is going to be. My question was okay like seventies early eighties and then The government started changing the way they reported the numbers. If they aren't consistent with a past those apart all sorts of things that was in one thousand nine hundred eighty. They started adjusting that or are they in terms of the cpi consumer price index. It was That they're talking about early. Eighties eighty to eighty eighty one. Eighty two eighty three that Things were discussed and actually implemented the idea. The whole concept behind this change was What what you have to keep in mind as up at this point in time things have been reasonably stable and in the way things were reported. Inflation was beginning to pick up and that meant the federal government had increased the cost of living payments on social security so lay tried to find ways they could bring down the the reported cost of living that plugged into the equation. There and what what they did and this was the first big chink was a change. The housing component of the of the consumer price index the consumer inflation okay arbit- It had original component had included. Something as crazy as the cost of buying a new house and that was just a portion it because not everyone's buying a new house each buying houses and all that then you had Brunson all sorts of things. What they changed was eliminated all of that and and replaced it with the concepts of called Homeowners equivalent rent. And that was that where the government will determine what a an average homeowner would Pay himself in rent to run his own house. Okay which Had no basis in underlying relook at it was the actual month-to-month inflation was calculated from the standpoint of how much the homeowner would then raise renan himself each. Okay it'd be effective. The change was it knocked. one and a half percentage point off the annual inflation rate Just that one change and perspective but given the headline inflation of the not that what. We're where we are right now but in twenty twenty I think the total annulation then something like one point three percent so ended back in what they taken out with these gimmicks you have doubled the inflation rate last year And it got worse overtime. They came up with all sorts of ways of substituting things shifting winnings around People going from malls to from from local stores all the whole concept behind the cpi was the cost of maintaining a constant standard of living. And what they did was they. Remove the constant from that that equation Attracted over time. I took great advantage to what was being done. Got real bad in the nineties And anyone who wants to get some sense of what was being discussed. Just a google search on gingrich and cpi new. Find a whole list of articles Newt gingrich at the time was speaker of the house and he had a he suggested to catherine abrahams who was then the head of the bureau labor statistics..

"This is john williams in hammett. Her eighth novel maggie o'farrell imagines the life of william shakespeare. His wife anne hathaway or agnes and the life and death of one of the couple's children hamlet who died at eleven fifteen ninety six in o'farrell's novel. He died of the plague. And the book imagines the impact that this event might have had on arguably shakespeare's greatest play hamlet. Hamlet won the national book critics circle award for fiction and it was named by the new york times book review as one of its ten best books of twenty twenty with the editors calling it a bold feat of imagination and empathy and magill. Farrell is here to talk about it from edinburgh. Hi how you doing. i'm good. What do we know historically. That's in this novel. How bearer the bones that you were working with when you sat down well i they expire himself is quite a shadowy figure. There's an awful lot about him. We don't know despite the very best efforts of the world's most brilliant scholars and shakespearean academics. So it is mysterious. You know we only have six examples of his signature which is spelt differently so there are lots of lawmakers and gaps in his story. If we think we know very little about him we know even less about his wife. The woman weeping told to call anne hathaway and his children. We only hamlet himself. The boy is lucky if he gets possibly to mentions in these big biographies of shakespeare them night and he was born and they mentioned that he died in fifteen ninety six. But i see i mean to be honest. That is all we do know about little. Unfortunately

This is ultimate spielberg. So this starred. Morgan freeman matthew mcconaughey. Hey stone star. Scart anthony hopkins former president. John quincy adams. Thank you Chime han su in his very first performance. Ever any movie and some greet. I wouldn't call them play. They all have a great role. Pete postlethwaite Just read actors. All around and some wonderful wonderful performances. An again underrated movie. This was his attempt to kind of kim. Listless was for the jews. This was kind of what he tried to do. For african americans and are discussing the slave trade. and what have you It unfortunately the reason why. This is an under unread film. And no-one really remembers is because there was a lawsuit. That kind of halted the publicity of this that someone came out of the woodwork and said that they had pitched to dreamworks and They start it was stolen the problem. With those kinds of controversies as people forget about the actual product. Too much brought controversies. And what have you. This is a sham of a movie. That people need to realise spielberg's cannon and i think a couple more years this is gonna be much wealth bill more than it is. Oh absolutely. I watched john h matt's a month ago actually took blew me away. Courtroom scene that anthony hopkins does and it must have been like five pages long while it blew me away was so good. I actually sometimes do steal from that. Because i love when he goes up to german hunt suit hand on the shoulder to says. This man is black. We can all see that you know. And then he invokes. He's like a talks about how they invoked their ancestors and then he goes over to statue busts of The forefathers and obviously one of them is his father and he got tons of surface. George washington john adams and he'd has this whole speech of. I've logged been wary asking you for advice but maybe we have found out that we are is indeed who we work. And it's a beautiful and anthony hopkins not for an oscar. Now here's the thing. He was nominated the same year. That robin williams was for good. Will hunting in robin williams one site Would rather seen anthony hopkins over williams. No i think robin williams should do you find is nominated this year for honor for best actor was he nominated last year for the for the two popes. Yes it was two bucks. Yes he was. He and jonathan pryce. Pryce yes okay. I just wanna make sure okay. We're gonna go to queenie's on number one ladies and gentlemen. I can't think of a better number one nor a more iconic one. "But this kind of stuff does hit me very hard and i mean. Let's put it this way. i'm originally from guatemala. I was a mayan indian end. The mayans went through their own holocaust genocide as well so i can definitely feel for anyone who lost that a family or a relative or even large portions of their family because of this atrocity of the of the holocaust It's so sad and so sad it happened. The one thing also bagged read about a criticism. I i'm going to throw it to you. I wanna i wanna see what your opinion is on this stanley. Kubrick once said that schindler's list. It's not a perfect holocaust movie because schindler's list is about success and the holocaust is actually about failure. It's about the failure of all people to not be able to see what's happening and something about it. Before millions and millions and millions of jews died at the hands of germans. I married because even oscar schindler himself set scientists person to save that person. But you know. I think i think people should most list in a way. That's very sometimes it's not correct. They think it has a big success. Oh you know we got through this. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do but if you remember near the end of the movie the jews are there the next morning russian soldier comes in and says you've been liberated and will one of the jews says we could use some food and the russian doesn't go and get him food basically just says well. Isn't there a town over there. It's not about the fact that they survived. They're still surviving. It's actually it's it's about continual survival and even though they lived there are less of them they don't live and it's not a tribute to oscar schindler from what i it's actually about the resilience of the jews. The that they went through this whole thing and yet they're still. They were still looking for a home. You go into munich and this the fight between them and palestinians for land for bread. They're going to call home. It's it's it doesn't end as is really ships. This is about and i think people look at it passed a classic spielberg movie that. Oh it's about the success that that these people but that's accepted beget like their own way. It's not like a happy ending. They they have to keep going and they have to keep finding a home. That's my thing. I don't know if you have an opinion on matter or thoughts on what i just said. No no you're right. You're absolutely right.

"What a great score. Love it when you hear that music. You know. it's john williams you know. It's you an art. You see something very very very special in this movie and you do i. S my favorite of like alien alien counters alien movies and you have to remember also. This was spielberg again. This was spielberg's third movie third motion picture ever. It's so huge so amazing and it's also so personal because he has said obviously it's got it's the only there's only what three movies they have the distinction of having spielberg's name in the screenwriting credits This is one of them now. Granted there it. He has gone on record saying that. There are other writers who did help him so it wasn't like he was the only one who touched the screenplay Paul schrader was part of it. Matthew robbins Nick howard sackler did did a redrafting jerry nelson and you know were there. Were several people who helped him But he but he he is the main plot screenwriter of this and the actors you mentioned. Oh my god which was funny. Because apparently the original person spielberg wanted for the role of of roy neary was It was g happen. He asked yes. Jack nicholson and he said effects would overpower him in the movie of big names he wanted. He wanted steve mcqueen. Let's right that was the very first person he asked. Steve mcqueen read it and said i can't do it. I can't cry on. Cue your script me cry but i cannot cry on cue so it was very very interesting. began when it was funny. I guess Richard dreyfuss was bad mouthing all of the other actors down he says pacino's too crazy. Jack nicholson's too loud coco and going on behalf a brilliant and then you've got france Francois truffaut in that iconic thing and one thing about this also. It's the second time that john williams does this. He makes the score integral to the movie man. So you have those doodoo due to do and it's just that throughout the whole thing and you don't know why it that's there until the very end when they when the aliens come and find out what that was about and it's it was a welcome. It was a well. It's a welcome through music and the light show that they do. It's broad it's brilliant. And then yes at the favorites favorite devils tower. We ever see that that. Hasten i wanna go i wanna go to mont mentana wyoming. Thank you yes. I think i would love to visit that place and then ask. Music is going. The lights are going as fades out. You hear sort of an iconic theme to another movie which will be mentioning iran. But yes if you haven't seen close encounters police will because how could you non and there. There are three versions as the original cut. There's a special edition. And then now. There is the directors cut that is out there so there are three distinct versions and they have different things in each one and they're equally as good all right. Quinn we're going onto my number six. See if you know. This one.

But this was number five harrison ford and your lead role wonderful supporting cast. Once again john williams best of just doing them saturday matinee serial beauty that he does and so iconic to the nth degree obviously not up at that day. Were writing this. George lucas sought. This is gonna fuck stop. Worth jaw was gonna flop so they went on vacation and spielberg do. What the Indies original name was going to be. I don't mind most lamp. Tom selleck was the original. Name was indiana smith. Morale's filbert's village said. I have one problem. I only the names are alone calm. Indiana jones began so the first movie is iconic and not only that but the first movie to me feels like of the early hollywood like nineteen sixty s it feels like right either treasure of the sierra madre arrive humphrey. Bogart could've played indiana jones. Was it's so brilliant to me. I had so we go from one kind of superhero. We're going to go to another superhero. And this is mr queenie's number seven we're going to have on most of you gonna say must've you're gonna say why is it so low on you list because on a great ones before this but this one was played by hurry you hear this. You know it's superman. You know. John williams outrageous fly and save the day below. Remember that this was kind of the very first comic book movie. That kind of came out that the kind of took seriously. I mean this. This predates batman. Tim burton's batman. This was dick donner with christopher christopher christopher christopher reeves. You have gene. Hackman as the villain you know margot kidder as lois lane mean and travel marlon brando in this movie. Go wrong with that as author you can. Because marlon brandon is such a pain in the ass when it comes to to. I mean i guess. He told the donner film. A suitcase knows. What a crypto tones look like just film a suitcase stated but it the i copy the Iconography of this is why this is on your list of white. So lower newest. I mean i'm looking at your lesson. I can see why it's low because there's so many kind of you stack above it. But i think it i think you're right. They can deserves to be on this list. Ira yeah so. Yes superman I personally don't care for the movie as much anymore. Some reason i just can't watch it but it's still good movie and still good watch. It's worth worth looking things aren. We're going to go to my number seven.

Who got nominated for his I think it was his second oscar for playing Frank act senior. And some great bit. An i would i own bit. That's so tonight we will be talking again we're gonna be doing a top ten list so it's nothing new But this one's gonna be very interesting. We're going to be talking about the top ten Movie scores now. This movie scores from a wonderful composer. John williams now. This might be the first in a series. I know quinn. I because we know a lot about movies. We've spoken sometimes about you. Know james horner. We've talked about danielle men we've talked about. Thomas newman all these guys. It's a possible. This will be the first of a series that will just keep doing some top ten list of composers randy almond. I'm michael came in. I mean the list goes on and on and on. And i'm really fascinated by this because like things Quinny and i both have I say opinions. We both have thoughts about the list. We've made so. I just wanna put it out there that we have top ten list. There are two honorable mentions they are on mentions mr queenie Put down ten complete With so so it's going to be a complete ten list which is totally fine. And there will be some on. Mr queenie's lists that i would have put on they were actually honorable. Mentions but i'm leaning Queenie kind of take the lead and we'll talk about this and we'll chat and This can be exciting quinny. You're excited. I'm very excited. I i will actually add. Add to myself are women who are mentions. This was really hard because i. He's all time favorite composer which is see him live at the pop but this was really hard because he's done really good iconic scores and it's just it was hard to like break out which is the best one when not only then i think he's what in his late eighties and he still working. He did he did The last star wars movie Rise skywalker and he had done the The post not too long before that he set to do No he's not he's not set to do I know spielberg is about to Release at the end of the year west side story. But i believe that's a mike They reused the the score from from the musical. The symphonic score that leonard bernstein did and i can only imagine john williams is like i. Don't wanna touch lenny lenny. Burns a bernstein at all so But yeah he's been tons of course not only worked with spielberg. He's worked with Dick donner he's worked with oliver stone. He's worked with chris Chris columbus he's worked with pretty much. Everyone you can think of. The he hasn't worked with is that i know full well. Is tim berne. Although is a really great actually now thinking about it I might cut part of. This is a really good the only guide that was the Star wars one. We see we can find Bill talk some knock off this london.

Fangio's patience with Lock pays off in big win for Broncos

"Heavy victory monday broncos country. It's always happy when it's victory monday. The broncos taking care of business against the miami dolphins yesterday was just what the doctor ordered. Twenty two thirteen was called a complete team win by so many people starting with vic fangio and then working through the organization all of the players calling a team win. We'll hear from vic fangio here coming up whilst from a happy and relieved drew lock but the broncos dominate on defense six sacks the interception for justin simmons late in the game to seal the win ryan fitzpatrick in and relief at two of who had been knocked out and it was a bunch of people getting in on the act in terms of taxes. John williams with me read. It was bradley job. It was draymond jones. It was demarcus walker. They were all they were all in the mix so it was good to see a complete team effort yesterday. Special teams really. Good they neutralized yukimi grant the stud returner for miami and it kind of relations. You what you thought this team could be. I guess maybe reminds. Isn't the right word but indicate shows you what this team can be when everything comes together. I know that can be a big. Stifle their offense. Just thirteen points are lone touchdown coming early on a really nice catch by devante parker but just a great great effort. And you're on the ground for one hundred eighty nine yards you. Get eighty four for melvin gordon. Plus two scores. Yes the fumbles. Twitch streamers see 'sudden influx' of copyright takedown requests for old clips

"Well now we have the full force power. The distribution engine known as the Internet and stuff is getting really messy again so a whole rash of DMC. A takedown requests were sent out to twitch streamers off of clips in their archives. this is coming directly from the twitch support twitter twitter feed. This do this week. We've had a sudden influx DMC takedown requests for clips with background music from twenty seventeen to twenty, one, thousand, nine, hundred, if unsure, about rights to audio and pass streams, we advisory moving those clips we know many of you have large archives and we're working to make this easier. This is the first time we have received mass DMC clip. CLIP CLAIMS AGAINST CLIPS? We understand this has been stressful for affected. Creators are working on solutions including examining how we can give you more control over your clips. We adhere to the DMCA which requires that we take action on content in streamer accounts upon notice from rights holders as happened this week. Our guidelines for music have not changed, so please reference them here. This is. This is an impossible situation Again saying commentary and critique you'll you go to a youtube video and we're GONNA be talking about this scary movie, and at the beginning of that youtube video they flash while ago section five Oh to fair use blah, blah, blah, commentary increase critique. Claiming Fair use is not an affirmative defense. You can't fair use and then use someone else's intellectual property. Commentary and critique is your reactive defense. If a rights holder decides to take you to court. And then you pay for a lawyer to go before a judge against a multi. Billion Dollar Corporation to defend your right to use their intellectual property. cannot a for a firm that defense before you see a judge, you can only react to a to a claim using that as your legal protection, which I don't know about you, but I don't have the money to hire lawyers to go up against Disney. No like this is not something I can really do now. Many corporations take very soft touch approach, but in this age of creating content for Youtube, and for twitch, and for any other platform out there. It is. Wildly difficult. To work out the legal responsibilities. Youtube doesn't. They, give everything over to the rights holders, and they allow the rights holders to decide. Was this a violation, or was this fair use, or can they use your content and the rights go? We'll sure, but we're GONNA. Take all their monetization. That's not really fair. Use I mean again. If you make a documentary, you don't have to clear clips in a documentary so long as you're holding to actual commentary on the media that you're using the intellectual property that you're using. I take a very conservative. View on fair use like a reaction video to me is not fair use. A movie review, which just spoils the plot is not fair. Use a you. You know what I'm talking. Those movie reviews where it's like a twenty minute video, and all they do is talk about the plot, and that the very end they go well. I thought. This movie was great. You know like if the whole point of your review is to. For your own benefit, supplant someone from going to see that movie and monetize that movie then I don't believe your fair use. I don't believe that's critique, I don't believe that's i. that's barely commentary on a piece of copyrighted intellectual property. So. This is gonNA. Get Messier from my few game streams. Were were the ones okay so i. don't have a ton of games. Strings on twitch. Keep those clips whenever I've done a game stream. It's usually just like. I've got an hour to game and I felt like opening up a chat window, so we can all hang out it. It's almost never like. Anything amazing happens. That's worth me saving but I did. Keep my clips from alien blackout. And all of those both on Youtube and on twitch got removed. Got takedown notices a twentieth century Fox, the Soundtrack to alien is in that game, and if I'm sharing a stream or a part of a stream from that game, that clip is going to have a content ide- flag and I'm GONNA get a takedown requests so you. I'm pulling I pulled those clips. You, you can't see my my alien stream not again. I don't know that you'd want new just playing an android game for an hour. But they're gone. You know so increasingly. That's going to be. I think part of the situation or the problem, the actual live stream on twitch i. don't see where that's necessarily going to be affected and twitches such a platform for that in that moment real time interaction with their community I don't feel that these. These take down. Requests are going to be focused on that activity, but that still a legal grey area where I feel at some point, if these companies are getting more litigious and more aggressive about platform, like twitch that we're going to have to start examining how this stuff is monetize. How'd you stream even in real time? Someone might see this. Person's going to be streaming. This game in this game uses as a soundtrack from this from this musician and that musician might be able to in real time. Say NOPE, you don't have permission to use my music in the stream because you're not talking about my music, you're talking about the. And that's different. And who has an angry angry? Joe Was for one of the Star Wars sequels he had a video. With the. A complaint on it, and you go and watch his reaction. He's playing the full audio of a trailer and that trailer has John Williams music on it and he's not commenting on the music. Well You're playing the music. You are no longer. Safely operating under commentary and critique by playing John Williams score, and not critiquing or commenting on John Williams score. That's that's not fair. Use so rightfully you're. You should be as you DMC a notice. That's that's what's so. Sticky that's what's so difficult about about how this stuff is handled and why we need sweeping reform. Of Copyright Law in the United States, but that's probably not going to happen is probably not going to happen in my lifetime.

The Genesis of The Miniseries Podcast "Blockbuster"

"We wanted to share with you guys. A bit of our journey of how we went about starting this production company that specializes in storytelling and all those stages that we went through so if you a follow us and please do subscribe to blockbuster on all of your podcast listening apps. But you'll see that. The of the series is epic cliff media. I think now it says epic originals and as some of our listeners may know that's My company that i started in two thousand fifteen when i left my job as a investigative journalist i was with cbs. At the time I put my own savings and credit cards and a lot more into camera and audio equipment to start filming a documentary and that was a film About the world's most well known film. Composers like khan zimmer. John williams of course Danny elfin like fifty others that we ended up interviewing and that film was called score a film music documentary. It's where i met peter Where i met. Elena and peter and i worked together on that film. He did the sound for it. He won awards for the sound for it. And its success led to a spin off interview. Show that we've been doing for the last three years called score the pod counties that interviews a lot of these composers working on modern things and it's a cool kind of you know peek behind the curtain and then all let us to this idea for blockbuster which is a scripted narrative miniseries that put kind of my journalism background and And peter's extraordinary sound design together into the same kind of product that we could It hadn't been done before this idea of that. That word again bio pod. So that's kind of the short of it. The challenges like with any creative project are how to build something. Sustainable that can keep you employed and and keep the creativity flowing so specifically what we're pushing into. Is this idea of high end. Kind of immersive audio. That's done almost at a level that you would see on a feature film the storytelling skills.

Fans All Over The World Are Sharing Kobe Bryant's Moving Oscar-Winning Animation 'Dear Basketball'

"Since the death of Kobe Bryant just over a week ago a multitude of memorials have sprung up around the world many of them showcasing his academy award winning animated short film dear basketball luckily for us new Englanders we can catch the film not the monster wrought college of art WBZ's Carl Stevens spoke with Nate from Lewis the director of exhibitions and public programs with the organization about their newer show entitled the animation show of shows twenty years and counting really excited right now we have the animation show of shows twenty years and counting which is a two part exhibition kind of highlighting the work of acne Filmworks and its producer and founder Ron diamond runtime as in putting together production for twenty one years of the very best animation from all over the world from emerging to establish hand drawn three modeled and in this exhibition one half of it is set up more like a movie theater or screening the nineteen show of shows which includes a piece side your basketball with Kobe Bryant Glen Keane and John Williams on the other side is a selection of works and directors from the acne still works our production stable and that includes you know we just really wanted to show the breadth of the media you know right here as much from two thirds of our students are illustration animation graphic design and we want to make sure the galleries the show again the bread to what's capable over teaching these wonderful students and so right now you know these people who are going there are always they're the ones who are going to side what animation is and does and how it functions and kind of see this order to get to stand upon I think is really important for them in the timing with the Kobe Bryant video can you talk about that sure so the Kobe Bryant video dear basketball you're probably familiar is a illustrated reaction to this two thousand fifteen announcement of leaving the league so it's a beautiful poem and he had hooked up with Glen Keane whose name that might not be readily familiar but he is a Disney superstar everyone from Aladdin our E. L. targeting the beast any major digi character you probably known about linking as one who designed that along side of that he's working with John Williams Star Wars jobs ET lord of the rings so really it's like two of the most heavy weights and it's a beautiful video that is autobiographical but really about perseverance passion of spirit and right now given them the more contemporary context it's it's more of an elegy it it's it's quite it's quite powerful right now of course because the galleries are so dark it's reverential in there to see that so it's a really beautiful piece I know right now to the thing at least since the tragedy they have been all the postings pretty all over the place here right now call with production company has been taking the reins on it a little bit and my understanding is because they're actually playing it this Cup coming Oscars so the two thousand eighteen winner in in tribute to Kobe they'll be playing again at the two thousand twenty one coming up in just a few days so in a fraction of the way it is almost accidentally here at much run sort of a tribute to Kobe very much so you know right now as far as I know we are the only institution that you can view this video not illegally at least so you know something to I think it is a testament to the power of storytelling a testament to the power of art to kind of allow people in story to live beyond their terrestrial tying

Glen Keane Was Drawn to Kobe Bryant for 'Dear Basketball'

"When Kobe Bryant retired twenty sixteen he penned a farewell letter to to the game that he called dear basketball? It was later turned into an animated short film by veteran animator. Glen Keane with music by John Williams the composer for star our wars and other classic films. This is all I have left to give a mind can in handle the grind body news time to say goodbye. Dear Basketball won an academy award in two thousand. Eighteen keen is a former Disney animator. Her you'd never met Kobe prior to the making of deer basketball and he told me about that nervous first meeting when Kobe and his family visited his animation studio that day. He he showed up with Vanessa and the girls and we brought him an and there was this moment of like. Uh what's Kobe going to think of. This tiny little studio was in little duplex. And I mean it wasn't like the big fancy studios this and you looked around and saw the sketches on the wall. And you know for a moment I thought oh I know. He's got to be disappointed. Did he said it's perfect. Yeah they're recording of of Kobe's monologue. His his read comes comes off is Very intimate what conversations. Did you have with him about the recitation of of the peace. Did you sort sort of guide him or coach him at all. We walk down the street from our little studio too recording studio at the end of a point Setia. Yeah it's a recording studio. Where actual Michael Jackson recorded thriller and Coby was so nervous to go in there like this? I mean he's such a fan of Michael Jackson's work and when we came time to record Kobe was very quiet he he delivered it in in a very simple straightforward conversational way. I thought okay. Good well he's got that done. Now he's going to deliver something more dramatic second time exactly clearly the same their time delivered exactly the same and at that point I realized this is it. Kobe's going to deliver something very pure entirely sincere. Not Inflected selected not dramatized. He's not performing. He's revealing who he is and it became the the driver for for the the way. Every part of this whole piece was going to be. I am wondering if he was thinking in terms of creating something that would speak speak for itself after he was gone. Not only from the basketball court but from from life An and was he thinking about his legacy and future generations nations and how they viewed him for Kobe. He knew what he had done in setting a path for others. So this was this was his purpose us very much to inspire new generations beyond him. I mean that was very intentional. Talking to coby he would have this intense fierce look in his eyes that would his spirit spirit in this movie had to connect to you in a very visceral way like him and I told the Kobe Kobe. I can't just animate you moving across in shooting the ball. I have to know what's in your head. What's in your heart? How how are you feeling? So we went shot by shot through Youtube of Kobe's twenty greatest plays and he remembered -membered every moment and described that moment why he was able to do that shot. What was his intention? I could live live in his skin. That's what was for nanometer. It's all about living in the skin of someone you animate. I mean there was a a His fade shot. Where he he would throw his right hip out a little bit left? Hip was just back just for enough enough and then you know he would come at the opponent and then back off and leap up into the air at a certain angle and do the whole thing and I studied it and I knew it I knew it exactly the angle of his hand so I mean early on. I said Kobe. You've got the worst basketball player in the world animating. Neal Neil said that's okay Glenn because everything you learn about basketball is going to be through studying him so after film was done we. You're at the Lakers. Training Center and the lights were off on the court and I walked in and grabbed a basketball. I thought I can do this. I mean this was so much about Kobe. Set your mind to it and you study and you you can do it so I got the ball. I went way back into a three point shot. I mean way back. I wasn't making it easy on myself. And I travelled ball then I jumped and through my right hip out and my hand was ninety degrees everything and all the way to releasing the ball and coby would say you know even after the ball was off of his fingertips. I felt like still had enough control. If I pull my finger back might just not bounce too hard on the backboard. I mean there was this mystical connection between him and the ball and I felt all of that insight as released the ball. It was flying. I could not believe it straight for the basket ask it on a perfect arc Iran. I was dumbfounded and that fell ten feet short. But how do you read the words now in the aftermath of this tragedy. There's a profound depth to them about him talking about his his body. Not being able to go on. It's time to give it up time to let it go.
