"But I was watching that movie up to that point as a young hula and then they kicked me out. They were like, oh, you got to go. I'm like, why are you so the tits? No. And this movie's awesome. Keanu, I mean, John Wick coming in Keanu when he stays where he's supposed to in terms of music like within his range, he's great. When he goes to when he's acting with Oscar winners like Anthony Hopkins. And he's trying to do a British accent. It ain't good. It ain't good. But when he's doing the matrix, great, yeah. And I think that's a key to any actor or any singer. It's like, know where you are. Know your range. He did a movie with a very drama, romantic thing with us. Charlize Theron? Yes. November. November. I hope that was a good movie. That was a weird thing for their good couple, yeah. But it was like, I've never seen that and being like, this is Keanu Reeves, but it kind of pulled it off. I was like, wow, okay. I was like, I would love to see both movies. Actors in an action role. Yeah. He did some weird sports movies, too, where he was like the coach for inner city, like baseball team. But then he was also in the replacements. Which I was like, I was like the replacements. This isn't that great. And then I turned around and I watch it every single time it's on TV. Gene Hackman is the coach. I'm like, yeah. I know it's not good. I keep watching it. I don't know where it is. I love these actors. He needs the only Keanu Orlando Jones in that too. It just looks like a jerk off an elephant. He needs to be the reboot of unnecessary roughness. I need Sinbad. Sinbad still with us? Happy Ireland? Taylor, Taylor and I watched it when he was in his old house before he moved, we were just getting turned in the middle of the day and he was like, this is on Netflix.

Elizabeth Wharton: Strong shoulders for someone else to stand on

"This, Elizabeth Warren and I am an attorney by training and currently chief of staff at site an Internet startup company. I've always enjoyed solving problems. Nancy drew being some of my favorite books. Growing up early on I thought, I was going to be kind of the. White Knights eight-year District Attorney fighting crime and I realized very quickly after years of high school mock trial competitions that at the end of the day, I did not enjoy it litigation. So, while I knew, I had found my home in the policy legal world. It took me a little while to come upon the technology side. So been a few years on the hill looked around the room and said what's next and saw it everyone who was at that level I thought I wanted to be they all had a law degree. From there went to law school passed the Bar, and of course, answer the sirens call a big law firm. Big. Money big projects. and. Works in finance business in real estate for both a for six years. As I started doing that more friends be in the Atlanta area. Were involved in different technology projects research. And they start asking you questions and. Hey if we're doing this, if we're researching, this is this legal And from there it just snowballs and next thing I know as John Wick and the John Wick movies would say. Are you. Are you back John and eventually he's like, yeah, I guess I am so. You are you are you at technology attorney? Well Yeah I guess I am. there. I've had the good fortune to take diets years of advising businesses. From the outside looking in and helping companies shape their strategy from the legal perspective that I've been able to grow that and now can help companies shape their strategy from the inside looking out. So that's a lot of lot of. It really helps a building in if you have thought five moves ahead as you're doing something. That went surprises come up later it's. It's a lot of fun I. Get to be able to say, Oh, no no, we built that we baked that into the contract ahead of time or yeah, I anticipated I mean one of the best examples is you look at, for example, if I'm working with security researchers, we've got a product that we want to use that says, oh, you can't reverse engineer this software. But. If I know going in that, that's exactly what we're. GonNa do but not from militia standpoint instead we wanna make sure it meets our needs. So knowing how to then go back to the other company and say hey gonNA be honest. Engineering, teams. GonNa reverse us. But we're doing it to protect ourselves. So basically think of it as we're can be deering. Free Quality Assurance Testing, and some folks love you. Because you're like wait you're going to pay US money to use our product and give us. Effective feedback on how to make it better. Yes Steve At. Moon. Ask. Those questions find. Who had brings you joy speaks your interest what sparks your imagination. Look around see who's doing even just a piece of that or part of that and asked them hey, what what about us drove you there or what should I do what I learned and just absorb that information every step of the way I have had someone willing to give their time, their expertise and really just mentoring doesn't quite summit all of supporting cheering me on and I'd like to think that I can just help someone else because you're the adage that a rising tide lifts all ships we didn't get to where we are without the help of others, and so I just like to add drunk shoulders for someone else to stand awning help reach their heights.

'The New Mutants' brings in $7 million from theaters during its opening weekend

"That long has been since we said that Marvel superhero slash horror flick. The new mutants ruled the box office this weekend by taking in $7 million $7 million and more than 2400 theaters, and that's with only about 62% of theaters open parts of the South after being devastated by Hurricane Laura weren't open, Disney said quote Is very early and we are encouraged by the start. We're optimistic about a return to the movies. I'm not familiar with the movie New moons. No, I know it's a marvel superhero slash horror flick. But yeah, so it made $7 million that That would be a bad weekend any other time of the year, but that's actually fantastic for what's going on right now. Russell Crowe's unhinged made another 2.6 million after opening with four million last weekend. When you're ready Bill and Ted's face the music earned more than $1 million. It opened it only Ah opened in about 1000 theaters, but a lot of people probably stayed home to watch it because it was also available on demand for 20 bucks. I thought I saw a little bit more of Ah, the trailer. There's a different trailer. I should say the makeup on Chiana is not really that good. No, no, it doesn't look that good. Kind of looks like he's Oh, I don't know where the mask really kind of looks funny, at least the one trailers. I did see the first trailer I saw it looked OK, but the one I saw over the weekend went way to manage here. He looks kind of funny. So you think this is Bo Tox? Er, I'm not sure what it is because you know he does have that high forehead and he went back to the long hair that he had in the original bill and Ted's right in his forehead. That just does not look right. Yeah, I guess that five o'clock shadow. He always has really hides a lot of that. John Wick Wick. Look as we like to call it. It doesn't have that in this. And I just thought it looked funny just like you did. Just me though. Just me. All right. Coming up in 8 10.

'Bill & Ted Face the Music' isn't excellent, but it's still kind of fun

"Ted faced the music. It's not significant nor extremely funny, but it's certainly fun. And it's so amiable that I'd be kind of a meanie to say anything too critical of it. In case you're thoroughly pop culture challenged. This is the third movie and a trilogy of Dumb Guy, Buddy Cos. That began 30 Count them 30 years ago with the time traveling Stoner Movie Bill and Ted's excellent adventure that was 1989. There was a sequel Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey and 91. These guys are best friends, suburban goofballs in one of the rock star's billing tender in high school in the original film, they're gonna fail history. Oh, and by the way, they're played by then and played by now. Alex Winter and the Evergreen Piano. Reeves. I mean piano Reeves. His career is Blowing back up. There's a big resurgence with John Wick films and The Matrix franchise is continuing, but he loves this character, and he's got a great relationship and report with Alice Winter. Eso. They've come back for this third film and You know. Initially they're visited by this hipster from the future named Rufus, who shows up in some kind of phone booth that can traverse time in space. Like like doctor who's police box, and by the way, Rufus was played by the late great comedian George Carlin, and he takes them on a trip through time to help them pass his history tests and tells them that they are going to write and record a song that will bring the world together in peace and harmony. Will, apparently by this third film. Three decades later, they still haven't written a song to sign the song. I've always felt that the world is just one song away from peace and harmony to to bad. Hey, Michael, do you exactly that I have to want hilarious.

Assassin's Creed 2 is now free on PC for a limited time

"Week rally this week we're looking at assassin's creed two which has you taking on the role of SCO auditory an assassin in the renaissance back in Italy and he's basically going around it trying to right the wrongs of some are corrupt individuals that would be sought for Sasson street is a franchise that took the industry by storm in two thousand seven and went on to sell more than eight million units globally the general direction I gave to the team for a C. two was quite simple diverse city if flares more options in all aspects of the game sucess is creed two is this epic story of family vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine yet brutal backdrop of a renaissance Italy it's the over friendly now da Vinci takes on Florida's most powerful families in ventures to the canals of Venice where he learned to become a master assassin now this is like the the DNA of assassin's creed games because there's like all kinds of assassin's creed's budget and they take place in all kinds of different tying time periods and places like number two what was the best one tire series this is the one that is why he asked one yeah we wouldn't been told that when I bought honestly I mean not as not as he's actually still good because a lot of them more recently a lot of the later ones weren't very good they were turning out like every six months yeah they weren't they were garbage but origins Odyssey still very good but this one's for free you will use it to get to be John wick in the renaissance like what what more reason you need to check that came out alright you describe a little bit like what the game plays like because it's a lot of sneaking around literally and assassinated it's it's an action adventure game right so you know you're you're basically a free exploring the open city of Italy and yet you have to assassinate people you get all kinds of different ways to do that the main which is like your hidden blade I'm sure you know you've probably seen it before but it's like this this gauntlet that you have that spike still this little dagger but eventually you get like poisons that you can use you know crossbows in like a little sort of gun collecting you can put in there as well to give you all sorts of different tools be able to do that we get to run across like buildings and do parkour stuff if you like a tomb raider game or maybe like to get into uncharted kind of like those would be this would be another game up your alley that could maybe be a this is one of a lot of historical references that the other assassin's creed yeah that's you know that's what I've always loved about these games is is the way they're able to take historical moments and and and it's it's it's it's like a historical fiction right because they have their own spin on them characters in the game right in some historical things that happen exactly in fact you know when the what was that that that burned down the cathedral no it's not one that burned down they actually were able to take some of the information that will be sought the developers that made it had compiled to make it with in their game and use that for the reconstruction yeah use the video games Jeff to help recreate what was damaged in the fire yeah because they took pictures for three D. stuff inside because they wanted to model it as accurate as possible they had all the data so it saved in there like you can go yeah and I mean it is that this isn't even a big time investment either twenty twenty five or twenty to twenty five hours talks to you really get to the story and it's only free though on Ubisoft are you play on PC so going download movies off you play you

Disney is using AI to correct gender bias in its movies

"Disney is making strives in Ah Inclusion and they they've actually utilize they're utilizing a new tool that I guess checks their film and TV scripts her gender bias so what is going on there yeah so James Davis who is the Oscar winning actress who founded the Gena Davis Institute on Gender in Media Back in two thousand four she been sort of the forefront of representation in culture she and her team have developed this new digital tool that uses artificial intelligence to check tips for gender bias and the Walt Disney Company has agreed to be like basically the test case for this thing to use to team up with them and use this tool on all of its upcoming home and TV projects so it's basically a tool that uses machine learning to read here too rapidly analyze the text of a script to determine its number of male and female L. characters and whether they're representative of the real population at large so it's important to note that Gena Davis doesn't view this as a tactic to shame any the writers or filmmakers for a writing one-sided screenplays or anything but she's trying to shine a light on the unconscious bias that is in Hollywood and hopefully provide opportunities to sort of correct those instances before these projects go into production this for me it sounds like a real really cool idea and the idea that Disney acknowledging that this is an area where they can improve is a big step in and of itself in that they're taking action is a cool thing here I just think we should I I'm curious what you guys think about this but for me it seems like this is you know as somebody I assume all three of us think that represent representation is a very important area where Hollywood can improve but at the same time something like this should not necessarily be like the end all be all decision-maker for how movies are made because you know you have like the Shawshank for Shawshank redemption for example like if you made half of that cast women yes it would be an example of parody on screen but it wouldn't make any sense at all because that story is set almost entirely an immense prison facility so I think it has to be on a case by case basis but in terms of like a a step in the right direction and certainly helpful guideline for sort of opening people's eyes and and giving people opportunities to make substantive change I think this is a really cool thing I just feel like why have a tool for this and not just have someone like if you're Disney and you can afford to have this like one a have a position like one person that is they're not only to a check every film and TV script for gender bias but also for insensitivity towards cultures and you like everything like it feels like that could be a position they create so much content because the computers are out to take all of our jobs feeder you know that's I just feel like it would be much easier to have a person who can have the mindset sets these things and a one one says over an algorithm but I don't know what do I

"john wick" Discussed on We're Talkin' Movies

"Welcome back. I'm Johnny Popcorn and ethically and we're talking movies well folks. I'M NOT GONNA take a lot of time here with then he kind of introduction because if you listen to the last episode you know that we're doing something different this is part two of our conversation about Kellyanne Hannah Reeve and in case you wondered why we were doing as much. We hinted several times why there would be part two so I'm going to go right now and ask ask the question that I always ask any. Where are we going today? Eddie well Johnny. I'm GonNa give you hint ready. Yeah go ahead. Struck struck my son Sir. I did the May I ask why. Yeah well because you stole John Kassir and killed his dog. We're talking John Wick. Well we've talked about. This is particularly said characters matter. We've talked about it in the context of several several of Gina's and even composure director. Whatever a characters matter and occasionally there are in the movie realm characters that come along along that you for one reason or another you take a liking to you get attached to you really want more of so on and so forth one? Of course we spent I believe it was our the second episode Eddie and we talked about one of the really great ones in film history and out of course would be James Bond. Well the one. That's come along now. That Eddie and I have have really gotten attached to. We've seen these films couple of them. We've seen over and over and over again. So they're like really old friends and we're talking again. Of course the John Wick series and when we talked last time. Eddie lead off with the What is it? What was the great adventure? WHO's adventure was it bill? and Ted's tailwind Ted's excellent adventure. That was what got him some notice initially and then he went into the Matrix series a few years later and that became really. I guess we could probably say in that. sector sector of the genre is really kind of. I hate to use the word but it's probably a conic and certainly made a lot of money as we know the fighting sequences and stuff are still used today. You know the way that they shot that movie the thing I remember the one part I've seen from the Matrix is when he's dodging all the bullets and so on but then he's done some other films and we talked about all his films or several of those films and now we come to. What's really brought Kano Reeve to the attention of literally the world I think through the character of John Wick? So we're gonNA talk about it. He's GonNa give some background on some of the unique things in tidbits about the movies themselves. So we're going to go right through them. One two and three because the most recent one was chapter three para rebel which came in. We saw just a few months ago. Let's start with number one. So the first one is John Wick came out in two thousand fourteen directed by Chad. Stella Sqi I think and David Leach. Ironically Chad was Kino's stuntman in the Matrix tricks series. Now he's a director and of course. The movie has a gazillion stunts in. Its own right up his out. We've got a quickest summary. Ever ex hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog in took everything from him. Yeah that's the Quick Synopsis. The thing that makes this interesting in the reason that a guy who has Eddie said a hitman history is pretty despicable you would think but he did a special favor for a Russian gangster and got himself out of the business so to speak because he fell in love married and was seemingly on on the path of what most people would say a normal life unfortunately his wife falls ill she dies and a parting gift if you will since she says in a note that accompanies the young puppy that's delivered to him. I'm actually on the day of her funeral. Evening of the day of her funeral. Says you will need someone to love. Well unfortunately hey it's short lived because these young Russian punks one who is the son of the very gangster that Mr Wick has performed his Special favor for that. Got Him out of the business they come and they take his car gill his dog. And the chase is on the little lead in that Eddie had is the phone call that because when they deliver they take Mr weeks car the stolen car to this. What's is basically a chop shop? Run by John Leguizamo Anyway. He runs his shop which is also affiliated and the guy does work for this Russian mobster while the Guy Guy Brings it in and of course. Where'd you get the car? Because he knows John Wicks car and then in the lead in that Eddie played because he ends up Mr leg was. I'm oh I I forget his. What's his kids? We have his character's name in there and we can check it anyway. The owner of the shop ends up punching the on kid and later on. It's reported back to the father author. Father made the phone call which you heard and once he heard Mr Wick that it was John Wicks car he says what was his response. Eddie Oh so. He knows his son has now gotten probably into a pretty big mess and the rest of it is that he said in the is him trying to settle the score with the kid and I ended up of course with the old man as well his former one of his former bosses. And there's a lot of action packed stuff. Yeah and now the task that he had to commit in order to get out of the business whatever it was and it must've must've been killing a whole bunch of other gangsters because it shot this the Russian guy of Vigeo Vigo Vigo Vigo it shot his family to the top gave him the power that he has. Today I'm so it was kind of a okay. Even get out of the business but you're going to do this but she didn't expect him to be able it'll do and he did. And the rest is history on that part but the just seen the father the look on his face when he finds out that his Jason Not only stoled John. Wicks car also killed this little puppy. He was pretty mortified. Even when the sun came to him and song for the first time that the father like punches so some punches I did we had told me to do and he's just not what I'm talking about. You stole his car. It was a nobody. Nobody was John Wick gave him a task and he said the bodies he buried that day. I gave them impossible task which he fulfilled fulfilled and the bodies buried that day laid the foundation for what would basically what we are and what we have today. Then he's got his right hand man he goes. You'RE GONNA they have to. You know. Go whenever says how many how many mentioned there bring. How many men do you have the idea that they're going to have to go? Wipe out Mr Wick. which they attempt to do I don't know what is it about a dozen guys spend over there and close to it attacking his house? Now one of the things in Eddie. You Might WanNa start right commenting on this because throughout the film. One of the things. We've actually seen a clip. We've seen a couple of clips one relating to the training that can arrive when through through preparing for the role about how to handle the firearms. And then we saw another clip by a law officer talking about how what can or does during the film how he handles the weapons how it matches what the police training is. He's very very good very very good. Indeed even though he's killing a lot of people and he's not a law of cer- by any any stretch of the imagination but one of the things they come in and they attack his house and he's ready because one of the things that he's done is put aside a host of weaponry which basically put away for keeps supposedly. Well now he's bringing it all up and the other Cooperman's the other things that he needs to be as part of that world buried in the basement under concrete till you figured it was it was over and done hidden away and now he had to bring it up anyway. A dispatches the guys that are sent after him and one of the little. There's a little bit of humor throughout this thing. And he knew to understand in the hitman world that he he lives in the currency the coin of the realm. If you will that handles every transaction is the South African Krugrerand rand we find out later in subsequent I think it's actually in part to that. A lot of these have been forged. But they've been done so masterfully did they still have value anything. That's done anything that needs to be purchased anything that used any of the hotel setups that they have for the Hitman and any services are paid by Krugerrands and we see a little bit l.. These bodies that he and blue relates and before that and did you mention. You didn't mention Jimmy. Did you know Jimmy after the fight. The doorbell rings. I believe in the bodies strewn all over the house all over the house all these bodies. There's a police officer. Is She the the revolving lights the police lines and you guys evening John then jungles evening. Jimmy always complaint and Jimmy goes. Yeah yeah noise complaint because the neighbors of course heard the Jimmy looks over. John's shoulder sees the dead bodies on the four behind him. And Jimmy says you working again John Wick says says some stuff out well. I'll leave you. I'll let you be thank you. John Can i Jimmy Union John Evening Jimmy Noise Complain Complaint..

"I mean like pointing shotguns in the faces and stuff but it it was like it was like Oh this I felt that this is the moment John we could get defeated like because these guys are less yeah yeah and it's hard to shoot them until they got the big shotguns and then it was fairly easy to shoot them but it seemed like it was backed into a corner of that point but yeah there's a lot of different fighting scenes. There's a golden stuff isn't this less than there was in the second. One the second one was in the end yeah until near the the end yeah the second one was of the entire way through it was always chew England's but in this one I could see they're trying to change it up okay. We won't use guns in this fight. It's it's just nice. Okay we will use in this one book. The dogs will also be a massive power of it. He will be on a horse with sawed instead of a gun. You know they did change it up and it feel if you aren't in love with the movie overall. I think it could feel like this is a bunch of dudes sitting around going. What will be cool? What what could we do that school and that's probably what they did old? It works yeah to me it works it could be like crazy. It could be like like what we're GONNA. Go to the space station next I would actually buy into the reason for the space station. 'cause the only place that no one want undimmed bound is those big thick and it's not lease space station not the I S. It is a space station that this organization if we're to believe how powerful they are. They certainly only have a space station out there. I'm just throwing ideas out there. I'm saying you got two more movies right. Throw the space station and actually I heard a quote quote from vin diesel. This week said he is not opposed to fasten the furious actually being in space. I don't it is a completely different different thing because defend that but I would you know what I'm saying. No it's like that's like a franchise where you're like how confessional fury's being space it so cars house and stuff but they jumped there were jumping amount of skyscrapers and stuff style so maybe we'll be in space John Wick Five Jason and John in space because as we all know Jason went to space horrible terrible horror movie if anyone does know Jason from the thirteen <unk> went to space ones was so bad it was trying to make alien yeah but that was that and this is John Wick it could work died reiterate. I'm probably hypocrite. I'm accepting that so I've enjoyed all three John Wayne movies..

Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss are returning for "Matrix 4"

"Was real it's not a dream we're getting a fourth matrix movie with Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne moss both returning to their roles as neo and Trinity co creator and director Lana Wachowski will write and direct the new installments though there's no word yet on whether Laurence Fishburne who recently started to John wick movies with Reeves returned to his role as the enigmatic Morpheus is it really so hard to believe the matrix celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year Christopher what's an

"So apparently the matrix matrix for it is happening variety reports that loud on what caskey will write and direct a fourth matrix movie with kiana ribs and carrie ann moss reprising their roles so given all the rumors circulating about the matrix. I was surprised to hear this especially given the ending of revolution. So what do do you think about this news. Where could they possibly go with the story. Now i gotta let coin ready for this movie. It's okay in one thousand nine hundred nine twenty years ago. They foretold how ominous technology was gonna be. That movie was so prophetic and now we're living in an age where we often often don't know what's real and what's simulation whether or not you go to burning man. There's a very zatarain surreal quality to what reality is because of fakes because of technology. We've been overcome by technology technology in real life and now there is the perfect time to make the matrix four to retroactively fix the matrix two and three which could have been one very good movie rumor was i heard this this was back in the early two thousands that the animatrix and the matrix two and three it was supposed to be a trilogy but they wanted to do one before the matrix one after the matrix but because of the star wars. I don't know if this is true. Through warner brothers like no no no so they made the animatrix and then they split two and three into two movies but it should have just been one and that's why this movie's filled up loaded. I don't know if that's true but now they can fix that the matrix is more timely than ever keanu reeves is back in another hot streak carrying moscow's incredible and jessica jones. I love the idea of. I don't know why it's it's one which hausky but i love the idea of original crater coming back to a franchise that actually changed cinema. The first matrix is one question for you though so so. I think you use the word retroactively we're. We're talking a lot about ret cons lately but we were talking about something even before the show started that i think might be important to point out here when you say you know do things retroactively ret con whatnot. You're not talking about necessarily just like wiping the slate clean and saying this never happened. You're talking about adding it <unk> adding to it enhancing it. I haven't watched them in years. I've watched the first one planning but the second to there's an entire sequence if i remember correctly with the architect where there's a bunch of nieto's what easier franchise to fix than one where there's that many reality is easier. It's a movie about coding recode. The damn matrix is right there. So all you needed was the people that want it and the technology to catch up to make it different enough to make it worth making and the talent and we got all that in this announcement one of my very favorite things in this announcement is a quote and it says many of the ideas lilly and i explored twenty years ago about our reality are or even more relevant net lake more relevant now. That is the key terms phrase whatever that suggests that this franchise is worth bringing back. I could tell your super into into whatever <hes> was pitching this now well. It's just something i'm really passionate this year in general and storytelling is all the use of parallel realities alternate timelines justice that is also in any property and immediate fixture problem like it's not annoying. It's interesting it's exciting and and this is a- an ideal property to do that with you have to you we also have seen so with halloween. You can go that didn't happen and people will be okay with it. It's totally fine but by incorporating these sort of parallel words or re recoding as you said you don't have to do that you can satisfy both realities without pissing off a fair legion of fans who probably would be like what we saw that happen. It's real may chase recorded voted well. The thing is we say glitch in the matrix in everyday vernacular expression yeah a glitch in the matrix console all three and four we can actually go back and have a deja vu black cat experience and that's exciting and canneries doesn't age. It's very convenient. I that was one of the the biggest things about the story just seeing that the two of them are back but also we only get one which hausky this time which i find very interesting just curious. What do you guys make of that. I mean it is an interesting scenario that you hope is not in any way negative. The fact that lily was mentioned in the press release speaks well and the fact that they've worked together for like forty years see. We looked quite peacefully. I maybe lillies busy. Maybe she feels done with the story. You know there's a lot lot of possible reasons for that but it's it's interesting from a creative perspective if if that is solely lana on her own that i'm curious to see okay how the world might feel different when it's just one mind sort of creating this time around what's interesting to me is is that in conjunction with how many incredible creators came out of the matrix as we have like the john wick team and so many people that we now have directing their own work whether or not they come back to be like first a._d. Or any sort of second unit what the assemblage blue-chip the matrix is because we only have one which hausky instead of the pair so i'm really curious what the movie feels like and we'll be able to tell it's one of them instead of the pair of them because we've only seen them work together to my knowledge. I don't think i've ever seen a single hausky film. I think you're right. I i did like tried to double. Check really fascinating. There's always i'm <music>. I'm an apologist for a lot of their people. Don't like like i'm a big fan of what was the one about the the true through tom hanks. I liked that movie. I the credits of cloud atlas. They reveal who everybody played. Yeah i mean look. I like all of their movies yeah right up on the second for jupiter island because i love that speed racer summons emile hirsch whenever speed racer sir is trending. Emile hirsch was like yes. I'm here in tweets but like speed racer is one of those cult following. I think it came out six months too soon. The world wasn't quite ready for speed racer and the matrix four or is. I hope this is a movie that blows our minds because what they did with bullet time in ninety nine changed things. I can't wait to see what they can do. Twenty years later technology. I'm also curious are as has she says it's more relevant but also our relationship to technology has changed entirely in those decades and i'm very curious what the perspective on it is if it's still the the same. Is there any part of the movie where it's like now. We gotta plug back in the ass plugged in now. I know well. That's what's interesting is ninety nine i. I don't maybe i'm wrong but i don't think phones had internet like or if they did. It was rudimentary pretty average folks. I don't mind texting back marrow's still playing snake on nokia that point and you're doing like corey keyboard texting yeah. I was eleven so i don't remember who had i didn't have internet so what we are now. Now is such a different animal than what that movie represented them but you can watch the matrix now and it doesn't feel old yeah when you watch the matrix the first one it doesn't feel dated so i can't wait to see what they do with the world catching catching up to the reality of the already made. Maybe i'm just i'm afraid to see what they're about to foretell about the future sickly the way they did with the last one hundred forty nine the matrix man. That's a very fair concern very very. I want to know but i'm not sure if i want a fair concern that speaks to how rich this opportunity entity is because it's very exciting because we talk about you know reboot sequels franchises continuing you know twenty years after the last movie came out you name it and we're always like well you repeating something like does this just seems like a really again rich opportunity to continue a popular franchise where you're basically justifying it in the pillars of the franchise itself so i'm pumped and for me. It doesn't doesn't feel like where we have like. Indiana jones nineteen where they're like inventing a new story. The matrix said the video game the animatrix and the two sequels this rich world. They've already built up that they probably had other ideas for or and had ideas for the last twenty. Here's a here's a question from the live chat briefly from who rang who's writing. What does what does it mean for michael jordan. He was mentioned to star matrix matrix reboot. Maybe plays morpheus as son but really quickly before you guys even answer that it was making me think <hes> oddly enough off. I am more into the idea of another matrix movie with keanu coming back with a movie basically being pitched as matrix four rather than getting what we were originally talking about about you know just prequels and different offshoots as much as i like michael jordan i kind of hope that that is done and it's gone and they just move move forward as we were just discussing here. I mean i might be remembering incorrectly but i believe that had a different writer attached they did yeah sounds like a pretty the different project i have no problem whatsoever with michael jordan being in this movie because he's phenomenal and that would be great casting if they want to keep that one little nugget of that project alive. I do please yeah but it sounds that they're pretty separate at least from what the reports read like yeah to me. This is a separate property but if he's on the radar is on the radar so then it's a good thing and it's warner brothers so michael. Jordan is very much on their radar so it's a great opportunity to clarify. I'll take michael jordan anything. It's just when i first read the read the the news or a rumor at that point that that's what they were exploring. I'm like okay but then i hear something like what we're talking about right now and that's the hook. That's how you get me back in. I agree i. I don't think a reboot released spoke to me but hearing the story evolved from an original creator really speaks to the original team for the team sending

"john wick" Discussed on The Film Buds Podcast

"In schori that the stories you hear about he's nuts man all right so john wick chapter two was released in twenty seventeen and it's also directed by chad celeski an stars counter reeves ricardo scum march gio in shane ruby rose common laurence fishburne john luby's amo a a machine is well if i didn't say that yeah i did say that end the synopsis is after returning to the criminal underworld to repay the debt john wick discovers by the large judge bounty has been put on his life so this one against the budget of forty million grossed one hundred and seventy one point five million at the box office and so it's definitely a an increase of the first one in just so overall i hit for sure and was met with pretty high praise and don't forget about the peter's storm here oh that's right that's that'll be making an appearance on my bottom five yeah so yeah like i said i just saw this one of the first time after i saw john wick three an end 'em so i i think this one like i said it the series skits steadily better and so i think this one is quite good not not a masterpiece but i think that eight it indulges more with action in gets more like the choreography is more advanced and 'em force pianos doing his own stunts and so there's the realism there but i think the there's some i think it also visually i think it's a step up as well 'em they kind of get away from that music video aesthetic although it is still quite dark and end stylized but i think the one the main sequence that really stands out to me is the tunnel shootout where he's you know he escapes the like the dance club or or whatever that places that vacation spot and he goes into the tunnel in these people start chasing him and he has a i think an assault rifle and it's just like a constant shooting 'em like arranged when you like store the weapons before yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah 'em that when when that started as like oh my god i'm so in for john wick a an so yeah that sequences amazing a one thing i'm not crazy about and just him in general is common i can't stand con i don't you just has this kind of bravado to him that just really gets on my nerves and i think he kind of stands out similar to be they insurance guy in the first one common is kinda sticks out in this one but i i do like fee the the same where the lady cuts arrests in the pool and there's the blood flowing that's that's really good end 'em i like again you get more development where the hitman hotel and yeah that's just a just a very solid movie 'em but one thing that kind of isn't issue not really just the john wick but this series or this type of movie in general is that in between reaction as the sequels continue they feel the need to extend the run time and so then there are longer stretches in between reaction that aren't always that interesting and it's almost obligatory at times it seems in terms of plot and other similar kind of side tracks because obviously most people are just going there for the action and defeat counter reeves do his thing but 'em and so there are definitely some stretches in the movie that kind of drag back but that's common issue at all all of these movies 'em but the action is amazing like i've said end the pencil kill is fantastic with the ear some yeah it's amazing and that that whole sequence really in the on the subway underground is great 'em and laurence fishburne similar to michael neak beast he's a little too on a little too quirky but i mean he's fun so he's loving the rule yeah although i do like is i can't remember if it's in this one or the third one is like it's john wick or something like that where he's 'em i can't remember remember the the line exactly but he's got some some good stuff believe is like is like one yeah yeah a i think what you said about people just just come and see the action incumbency calories deuce thing a is definitely allows the storytelling going to sort of get a pass because you know i'll be the first say the storytelling is not the strongest in the john wick movies yeah i it's got good world building it could have more on 'cause you still have a lot of questions about this world world like you know even by the end of the third movie i still don't even fully understand the world that they're inhabiting 'em and sort of they might be waiting till they might be waiting you know the next couple of movies sort of explain like how did this organization start like why did it start you know all these questions but i it it it's telling you like that's not important we courtesy account reeves bus ted's you know indem the stories are pretty simple you know like i said the first one is guys getting revenge on his first dog but it's it's more than that but essentially boils down to that a the second one is some man that we don't know but that a john wick clearly knows from the past approaches ham is are first introduction to the sort of blood pact it's things that they make and he says oh you're found you know by dave code to fulfill this for me 'em even though he's he's back in retirement he's yeah free retired m an end so he initially denies but you know he's sort of forces in back back into life and he goes into it reluctantly 'em and so it's and then he does it and then seeks revenge on the on the guy or you know blowing up this house and you i mean you know a few other things and and so it's it's a it's kind of a tight simple plot that exists in this fantastical weld it makes you wonder if every single person in newark is a is a hitman mania 'em that scene where him in commoner in this and the subway and they're shooting which i love that side we've got nothing yes it is so stupid but i love it incredibly stupid but it is so it's done it's executed so well there's so many domain somewhere i'm really stupid people just aren't reacting yeah there's so many moments in in in john michael blind it's almost like no one's ever around yeah john wick in the in the bad guys but the second and third one there's they're always initially populated areas and no one's really reacting until like common in john wick getting you know bust out into the fist fight on the subway in everyone's like running around and screaming in the third one win 'em people just walking up and get stabbed in the throat in a bus terminal and everyone is around in yeah like no one reacts it's just so funny to me because guns allowed even when they've got a sound serano then they're making like holes in the wall right now yeah very obviously sully in each plot but now that that that sequence in the subway is is amazing i had forgotten that all of it on so i did i misquoted that line from laurence fishburne he goes somebody get that man i've gone out it's amazing disgrace a him in a ham encounters nessler reunion yeah yeah for sure the matrix a so i guess we we touched on peter storm so one of my least favorite things is be opening monologue by peter storm air where he's like who the fuck does that men and it's just it's an it's just he feels like some other people have mentioned to add a little to cartoony so his 'em he's just kill the guy with the stock and i'm like yes we've heard this story the fucking do yeah yeah that's what it is thank you off my quote game but i i love it 'em i'm sorry it's fine it's fine a but yeah it's just a really solid very entertaining movie i'm not a big fan of peter storm air i am to generally he always plays bit part villains a can barely speak english is yeah his biggest role is in like prison break yeah and houston big lebowski is well yeah is one of the a m nine less oh yeah you're still a small rule the mhm and the you know fargo and all that yeah yeah that's definitely one of his most iconic a bit yeah it's just i think they really do a good job like we've touched on just expanding the world in a really interesting way because with a lot of movies like this they'll try and expanded but clearly there's so little for them to develop that it just feels really lame but in these movies these somehow whether it's the scripture the direction or what they expand it in a way to where even though it's ridiculous it feels like within the context of the movie it makes sense a and so i think that they do that very well and like you said he he'll encounter people from this past you don't necessarily know who they are or how he knows them but they you register that they've had some type of experience together whether it's good or bad an i i liked that aspect about it as well and so but again that on that whole first part where he he goes to get his car back yes absolutely destroys it yeah and then a the he asked the guy peak and fix fix it and he's going through all these things wrong with that and he's like yeah conviction and it's kinda hoping that he does he get it back in the third one but then you know the third one takes place only moments after the second maybe at the end of the fourth one hell of a drive up in his the car is there you go yeah expect an outline i do like i mean it's established at the end of the first one but he does have a new dog which i really like and also the end of the first person yeah worry or he goes into the kennel that don't grow fast mhm it's only a few days and it's already in adult yeah yeah yeah no no one there guys but i am so i also i do like i could see other franchises doing this just have consistency or something i like how they don't kill the dog off again yeah you know 'cause i mean he's still living through they could have done this chapter three yeah which i think would have been a little hill the house and they sort of make it seem like that's what happened but that would be a overkill yeah so 'em yeah i i like it's it's very well directed and i do i think the score like we've touched on is is better not nearly as bombastic and present in a lot of action sequences 'em end yeah it's just it's just interesting to see where john wick goes 'em in trying to survive in and 'em encountering berries people in and how they helping but also want something in return and a yeah i like all the things they introduce but then don't necessarily explain because i guess they're like no we it almost gives it like in air mystery like it's just rest that extra something like this this whole underground network of homeless people just shove yeah yeah yeah where yeah and i really like z g a like a whole operation of like all those women with all the tattoos i yes i love how you i'm really technology like which boards and in a really old pc's which i guess is suppose it's supposed to be entrees where something but it's almost like they're telling you don't think about it too much it's just cool yeah so that's that's the audience like clearly they just thought it was cool but i love the moment when they they put the bounty on his head and then and then he's everyone gets their flip phones valid and they get they get the tax pagers is another one time he sort of just like looking around and everyone sort of advancing on the i dunno i liked the idea of 'em you know just like the stakes being raised up like that yeah in every free hitman being interconnected when we're together oh not in terms of the the the group of women doing the communicating since i hadn't seen john wick to and i and that is continued in john.

"An i do kinda like they little background in 'em behind the scene stuff of how that a place would work if it was a real thing yeah yes some something i i really love is that this is not an origin story this like john wick is already established as being this crazy crazy good guy we don't see any flashbacks diminishing during this they talk about the impossible mission he had a complete in order to get out of the business and we never find out what that is and i don't think it's important that we know what that is and you know even up until like the third movie hill encounter these people and he'll call them by name and you know we we don't know who they are we never really get any details on who they are how they know john wick it's just he's already established in this world and he's already established as like one of the greatest the dangers is to the underground society of assassins the world has ever known you know when i really love that moment when the mechanic calls 'em my michael nick recently pieces character and he just says you know while day a day 'em they stole his car and they they fucked up as a dog and he's just like oh oh yes he knows you know and he says he says so come for you and you will do nothing because you can do nothing john wick is like people know people know yeah you know and we were just being introduced to end but we in just a few short scenes we know how big of a deal he is yeah yeah for sure a yeah i do i do like that is well how it's not really an origin story i hadn't really thought about that actually until you said it but i i do like all of that but i think that the i think the casting in some of the supporting porting roles is a little off i think that michael need these two sexually he passed away i think a year to go really yeah from lung cancer i did on yeah i think he's a little too on in this movie like he has a few too many course cartoony yeah and again i think that matt that goes in with the unbalanced tone but one character one for a casting issue but i do have is the guy from be insurance commercial commercials who's like i'm the raccoon living in your basement junior bubble calmer whatever he says it's any here's also in thirty rock any kind of the the assistant of michael neak based on that guy yeah yeah yeah yeah he's in the insurance commercials he's in brooklyn nine nine yeah yeah yeah he he's on the lot of comedy yeah and so he kinda sticks out knowing what he's done sense and i i'm also not really crazy about the guy from game of thrones i there a he's just i don't i don't think he feels very believable but what how do you feel about a unique shannon linda so i do really like in shame and i forgot that he's in all three of these i know and so i do really like him manager yeah and i do like will willem defoe although he's not really giving that much to do in this one he's he's an assassin but in terms of performance there's not really whole lot form to do but i do like a minute that's how i feel about a in atlanta redick i he he doesn't really have a lot of lines and he doesn't have the most flushed out character but i really like what he does with it you know it's just sort of that on his name is even like called car owners something yeah he's he's just he's just be on the what's the term for the hotel i can't remember the name of it but front desk guy yeah yeah yeah you know and he a it's it's funny because the hotel is like an actual hotel mhm you could just go stay out of paranormal person yeah but if you've got those coins you know they know who you are they've got their own like currency in that guy explains no third movie that it's not last as no monetary value it's you know it's the value is a when it symbolizes the value of i'm giving you this to do this job for me or you know like it's it's a valued on like social social respect yeah yeah for sure m n yeah yeah so i do really like everything dealing with that and i also like be the script in terms of how they work in kind of clever 'em tidbits of lines fur like yeah i need a clean up in my room where i want 'em my dinner served in my room and then it's you know it's symbolizing something else but and so i like all of that stuff and they kind of continue that in the next two films as well and one thing i will say so it's written by the same guy and it's directed by the same guy except for david leach on the first one so that's kind of a rare 'em things have happened in a they franchise like that's where it's at the exact same people a throw three and i think it's gonna be the same thing for the fourth one is well david leach tricked into and through no no the still lost style eski did all three yeah okay but yeah 'cause atomic blonde and john wick to came out in the same year so but and so i i think that helps it stay more consistent in which is rare again it's it's rare for a series like this have that and i do like kiana reeves i i think the this franchise in this character like i'm sure a lot of other people kind of reignited my appreciation form 'cause i kind of forgot about him and told us and i think he really makes that character iconic in various ways and i mean he just has this kind of odd delivery of lines and while not all of it feels completely natural it just something about it is yeah interesting and kind of palpable a lot of people have picked him for 'em bad acting and then john wick movies but i think it has more to do is you know the fact that he can convey so much with so little lines is brilliant acting you know it's not i guess people think you have to have all these like huge monologues and be really like crazy in in you know like a have a big rambunctious performance the have to be a good actor yes you know key onto a he's always been that way you look go look at the matrix locate you know only when he was younger back in a villain ted in some of those really movies which he really like kinda like out there out there and then he sort of got this reserved persona may be due to the the trauma experience in real life or something but 'em he can i think he conveys perfectly the man who we are supposed to like what we're supposed to believe he is like yeah you know the man that john wick is i think i think he convinced that well i agree and he really does not have a lot lines i think if you added up all his lines and all three of the movies be less than a hundred yeah yeah if anyone has a total let us know but i i think that in having seen two and three i don't think he's amazing in the first one but i i think in a third one that's probably his best guessing performance as the third of the three i guess sort of come coming into the yeah and the first year was the last movie he'd been in before before or just good question 'em but and so i do like his he has a good presence in the movie for sure and so i think again he he does help make this character memorable and what it is he oh he had just been in forty seven ronan a big hit big hit hit a ball he himself keep count reeves has had has been through a lot of different a shifts in his life you know in a i think for a long time he sort of faded from public guy and just just sort of reserve done and sad and now now it's like the key on his thoughts man it is for sure i mean he's he's living his best life yeah i mean he's just been a always be my maybe any also in toy story four tourists were for things also been a he's the internet's it's boyfriend yeah they awesome that an interview and he said on the what yeah that sounds like him but i yeah i do like i mean some of the lines are a little bit maybe times too much but like the one where he goes i'm thinking i'm back you know stuff i'm and stuff like that is fun for sure but i again i think in this one how balances the campaign west very serious emotion is a little off but that's actually the the loudest and angriest he gets all three of these yeah yeah for sure yeah and he never again gets like that emotional racist always this sort of flat delivery in yeah you know it's it's great it's great great atkins says i mean yeah i do like in this one be i guess it kind of fade out of the next two but the murder cleanup crew you know who come in and clean up his house after all these hitman come in trying attack amend of course he kills all of them but inside i do like they're just a few little clever concepts that they inject into this which i i as a fair bit but there are kind of stretches where it's a little doll 'em and i'm just kind of waiting for be action to start but i yeah i mean it's it's i enjoy end but it's by far out the lowest or my least favorite of the three so someone got like about the second and third one compared to the first one are 'em how creative you get swith with how he's killing these dudes yeah and the first one it's it's just as far as i can remember 'cause has at least spend a month or so since i've seen all three of them just guns yeah that's that's what i like about this very seriously if it's it will just have a lot of great gunfights fights which yeah which is which is which is great buddy yeah in the in the first one is pretty much just guns and in a few nights skills i think you also what's interesting is that in the second and third when you get the idea that he's sort of just almost this invincible superhero which is what i mean by sort of leaning into his goofy as a m whereas in the first one i believe he's he's going to die in a couple of moments and then he just gets saved by willem defoe yeah willem defoe straight up just saved is life when you were three times and if he hadn't been kind of be dead yeah well not canneries when he was about the killing himself as well yeah so 'em yeah yeah but yeah so i i do like how the character progressive and i i just like watching him do his thing and i think that after the second one the kind of realized that there's only so much you can do with gunfights and so they did expand it but i think especially in the second one there are some great gunfights but 'em and one thing i will criticize about this one is i think they score endorsed soundtrack are little to present like it's just a kind of a constant constant techno electronica score the goes pretty consistently throughout the whole movie in at times they just kind of takes me out of the end reminds me that i'm watching this kind of crazy action movie whereas others go ahead of those gonna say you compare that to the third one a lot of the five just don't have any music at all yeah which i mean feels very like kind of jason bourne ask and so i think that that's one good improvement with the sequels is there's just there's not as much score.

Our E3 breakdown: Microsoft's Project Scarlett looks crazy powerful (The 3:59, Ep. 568)

"The. Tonight on what you're saying. I'm Ben FOX Rueben and Oscar Ellis, E three is upon us. The big video game confab is out. No way. We've got a whole team out there covering it. Oscar you're here, though, covering all of the action. What was the most pressing? You've seen so far. It's granted we're only about two days into it. It was by far Kiana Reeves so John, Wakeham selfie. He appears in the twenty seven twenty seventy seven trailer. And sure enough, he shows up at, at three does a little spiel has just roar of applause, and announces that the game is coming out next year. And you said this was at a presentation press conference held in which they announced new hardware, like a new XBox coming twenty twenty project scarlet, but you said, can't raise got more plausible that it was huge even he was taken aback. I mean ease superstar, even he was like, whoa, right? And everybody just loves them. There's cheers, there was a guy who said your breathtaking. And that guy's going to get a free copy of the game from CD project, grit. Because he heckled he heckled cannery canneries been on a pretty Sean, Ron John wick three obviously has a lot of fans of I wanted to give to always be my maybe that Netflix film, in which canneries plays version of canneries that we think he is, which is kind of amazing. But back to back to you three product scarlet we have to talk about the next XBox AK graphics. One hundred twenty days for second salt say drive. Would you think about it, it seems that for this next gen consoles deceits us is solid state drives? Yeah. That is just going to make everything faster when it comes to loading two big areas that's going to be the key thing graphics. Wise course it's going to be better. They didn't show anything. But obviously it's gonna be better. PS live is going to be better. But solid state drive is going to get a new television, right? Ak graphics. You're going to need to upgrade your forte TV or so. We're, we're in for four k content. Yeah. If you want, if you want the eight k is a bit about feature per right though. The last version, the Xbox One originally didn't have XT Moore did have four K just like the PS four. And so I think they're trying to feature proof a little that there. Right. So it's, it's not where they had to come out with that Xbox One x to power, the four K resolution stole a lot of time for them to tease out a lot about this product because it doesn't come out until holiday, twenty so this was probably. Just a little bit to get people interested. And then we're going to see a lot more going forward. Yeah. The more than likely. They'll have their own little bit next year. Like they did with the Xbox One yet tour the show off the games, but halo infant is going to be a game for this four cyberpunk twenty seventy seven where the two only two trailers, I mash them watching just some huge halo junkie so beyond that last week, there was the Amazon remorse conference, which kinda got lost the shuffle. With all the touching on apple WW C, which they knew that then knew that they were scheduling, the first annual conference dub dub, tell me what is remorse. So is a it's basically Jeff Bezos is conference that they hadn't Vegas where they talk about robotics space, artificial intelligence. It's kind of big science, fair about a couple of things. So it was drove was quite enough that it could potentially sneak up on you. Yes. Yes. So Amazon announced their newest prime air drone at the conference, which is kind of a big deal, and that they continue to rate, these delivery drones that they keep tell. Us going to deliver us stuff within thirty minutes by the FAA hasn't really moved forward with the proves where we don't expect this to reach the mass market, at least the next couple of years if ever but it was a cool new drone. So tell me about on scout. Amazon scout. I got a chance to actually see this. This is a delivery drone for the ground. So it rides around in suburban sidewalks. And one of the cool aspects of it, that they told me about was that they create these duplicates of the real world, the real neighborhoods that Amazon scout is actually going around and to actually train the I to be able to actually know what to do when it goes out there and doesn't. I don't know. Knock over a tiny dog or something like that. All right. More of these sound seen it and Roger Chan, I'm Ben FOX. Zealous. Thanks for listening.

"Ebony that, that is absolutely a reading, and the different audiences can redefine only in my theater. And this is obviously one screening in one theater in Los Angeles. The amount of ca plaza and cheering every time he succeeded in murdering a lot of people was really disarming to me like the opening sequence. And I get it because you're supposed to cheer. Sorry. So I feel like the film encourages that even though you could. Absolutely. And I think that the Texas does say John wick is tortured, and doesn't want to like, emotionally doesn't want to be doing this anymore, but like everybody loves watching him succeed, and like not get taken down and my theater, I think went to an extreme with one or two particular people that were driving me nuts, because the scene where you're the woman is. There's a ballerina on stage and. Anjelica Houston's character. The sort of instructor boss, woman is like the is, is working her until her body is literally falling apart, right? You see the pain in the misery of the physicality of it, and people in my theater were laughing because the film, I think like one. I think they were wrong in that, but I think that they didn't get on the train of like we have shifted emotional gears here, and this is to show how awful this woman is. And how awful the conditions that John wick grew up in were, but to them, it's like a fun dumb action movie. So it's just as funny that, this poor woman, this young lady is being brutally tortured as it is at the very end. When you're having this goofy fight where these guys are like, oh, it's such a pleasure to fight you and, like try to kill you. So I think that there's like, I think the film as well as certain types of audiences. Read this as like this sort of fun, frolic, this fun action movie of liked gung gun FU. And like how cool that they revolutionized a particular way of like battle. So before we wrap up I just want to shout out Halle Berry. I have I wanna talk about let's in the bonus because I want to talk about the fact that like race in this movie is really complicated in way that I found unsettling. Specially the scenes that took place in Casablanca but I loved Halle Berry and her dog so much. So in the bonus, let's talk more about what the movie means to audiences and so many pages of notes. Yeah. That and I also knew I was not going to get even a ten what I had to say. I know this movie is really there's a lot to talk about here. But all right. Let's take a quick break, and then we'll be back with our freak outs. Hey, Simitis frequency radio listeners. "And there's no way we have time for all of this, because I don't wanna fall into the trap of doing, you know, like a left reading of something that doesn't actually have, you know, the transgressive potential, that I try and rationalize, it ended up possessing, but part of what I love about the John wick movies is how even though it is absolutely beautiful and stunning to watch. Nevertheless, I am exhausted. By the specter of what John wick has to go through. And I would never ever want to be him, right? Such that, you know, I don't know if you guys have seen the anime afro samurai. It's this incredibly fun. Also deeply fucked up and problematic in some ways, manga about a figure this afro samurai, who sees his father, get brutally murdered. His father is the possessor what's called the number one headband like he's the best fighter in the world. And he's brutally murdered by the possessor of the number two headband and part of what this show gives us over the course of its two seasons is just like the bone weariness of when you are the best, the ways in which people are constantly coming after you right in. So I love how the gentleman movies part of it is just jumping like just leave me alone. Right. He doesn't seek out the fight nor does he revel in it. And anyway, he is disgusted by it. So I don't know for me, the seduction of it is the trappings in some way. But I would it is it is absolutely foreign to me that someone might wash this and think, like, yeah, I want to be as bad as John wick, because we see what it costs him to be that bad ass. We do. And I love to agree with you. I'd love to say, like like I mean because for me, I mean for me like there's always that, that, that tension to. Of, like, yes, I agree. That, that is a completely valid reading of, of like the text and the subtext and everything. But on the other hand, I also believe that in terms of its impact on the, the viewer..

"He had I just read his piece about the Indiana Jones films actually, but as and he really gets into it. He gets into all the complex fucked up like colonial shit while also you know, but talking about the things that he admires about the film and temple of doom in particular is like really complex and fucked up in a lot of ways. And there's a quote in his review that says. It's a speaking of temple of doom. It's fascination for me is that I'm entirely incapable of not respecting it even admiring it while recognizing it for what it is. And I feel like I you know, the junk films, it's like, there are moments where the choreography or where there's something I can't, I can't help that I have an emotional response of. Wow. That was really kind of almost beautiful or that was really just well choreographed. Well crafted like I have to admire the craft while also like a sort of quote unquote recognizing it for what it is. And like I don't want to pretend you know, I think that there are some critics out there who will say, like, well, the politics of this are bad, and therefore it is bad. And sometimes it is that simple. Some things are so inherently fucked up like that's true. But I can't pretend that my relationship with films like, John wick is isn't more. Complicated than that. You know, like oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think that there is I guess you're asking ebony. No, no, no further. It's part of the conversation. Well, and I think that that's part of the problem here is that the violence is so sensationalized. It's seductive and the revenge fantasy of like going out, and like you know, there's something really seductive about the fact that he is this, this mythological figure that can never be taken down like the line, where in McShane the continental young still when time proprietor manager says is basically being like yeah. He put he's gave him an hour and a fourteen million dollar bounty on his head. So it should be pretty. Yeah. Should be like kind of a challenge, but, you know, he's definitely not going to die and like it's so romanticized and like his history, and his like he's tortured, but he's also incredible at, like, murder, and it's I find that really frustrating because. Yeah, I can watch it and be like, okay that scene at the beginning where he literally is taking a, a gun and rebuilding it for one shot. Like to take one guy, right? That he knows that his skill is strong enough that, like he doesn't need to prepare an arsenal. He's just gonna whatever like there's it's visually and narrative, -ly enticing. Right. And so I so I do I struggle because I'm like I can enjoy this. Like I really liked that close. Quarters fight scene in the China town antique shop. Yeah. But at the same time, I'm like, why do I like this? You know, I, I have a different take on it, and I want to pivot around that term seductive and that notion. That, that John wicks litho lady is, is seductive and this, and I think that the presentation of it. Absolutely is. But one of the things that I love about this, and I cannot that my viewing of these foams is absolutely informed by the fact that I am a black woman and what I mean by that is most action cinema does not. Take me or people like me as its target demographic for the male power fantasy. Right. And so there's a way in which, like traditional action cinema western action cinema. It can be usually is a very like patriarchy, affirming white supremacist power fantasy. That is specifically four white men. The John wick movies re differently to me because I want to unpack this with you care..

"So if anyone is like about to catch up on it before the movie like before they see three like, just don't watch them right next to each other. Like you can watch them days apart. But I think one of the problems with doing that is that it's the exact same story. And so you're, you're one is a higher quality in terms of visual aesthetics. It's really too, is really not. Once they are separated by that. I think budget wise, skill, etc. But they're ultimately the same story. So it gets a little like four hours of that is a lot. Oh, yeah. I'll say this after watching the first one I was kind of, like, really everyone. This is what everyone's obsessed with like, like I. Like, I don't like revenge films. I think that like it starts with a woman in the refrigerator bullshit like there's all this stuff that I'm like, RA cool. Whatever it's not even that visually interesting. Like, I, I don't think I can appreciate fight choreography this much, the Lord building seemed really kind of like a this is sort of dumb and cheesy the second one. I was like, oh, wow. Like this one is really visually, slick, and the colors and the cinematography like, oh, I'm starting to get like this is what I thought that the first one was going to be, so I started getting a little more into it. But I did get some fatigue because of like having just watched it. I will. Well, actually, I'm going to kick us off into talking about John Wayne three by just like moving into that. So by the time John three came out. And I went to see it two weeks ago, I look I was excited to see it. I was genuinely curious. You're like what's going to happen, because it, it picks up literally moments after John wick to ends, and I found myself as I've been immersed in this world more, and I think I've been primed that like everyone likes this, you should like it to kind of thing that I'm more forgiving and actually more intrigued by the world, like the code that these assassins, live by this sort of marketplace. The coins like your like how, how do you get an arsenal of guns for two coins and then you buy a drink with one, coin? Yeah. Like the fucking currency, the ship, but at the same time like all the questions that you asked earlier Carro. I don't want to know the answers I like the weird. Oh, you're mystery. I wanna be clear. Yeah. I was actually worried that I was coming across like, oh, I want. I want all this spelled out, and I don't like what I knew. I just want to talk about it. Yeah. Yeah. And I wanna hypothesize about it. So I think that like, as we've continued to watch and as they've continued to add these mythologies into this universe of assassins, I'm a little more intrigued by that world. I will say. One of the other problems are all stop talking in a minute. I know I've gone on for a while. But what are the other? What are the other problems? Is that these sorts of films always have to outdo themselves so they are getting increasingly more violent and increasingly more grotesque in their violence. And so I actually like I flinched a lot during three where I was like, oh, that was unnecessary or that was way more extreme than anything in one or two. And you can see each iteration getting more severe. I agree completely. Well, first of all, one of the detailer wanna mention about the world building around the assassins, and everything is the I both love and hate the room of administrative women. You know, like I li-, I guess, the way I love the kind of nineteen fifties secretary slash biker, chick aesthetic that they're rocking. I love that they still use paper forms and stamps and things. And I love that they have like these chunky computers with, like green monochrome displays it looked like they were set up in nineteen eighty two and they just never replace them. But I'm also like okay, but obviously then in the world of the assassins, like this is like a like a this is all women. And so this is like a place for women to function in that society. Do I really appreciate it in three that they had a man be or like a male seeming?.

"I just like it. Yeah. Yeah. So I need to I have been so excited for this episode to hear from you your reactions because you had not seen the first two films until very recently, and I don't think we're that interested. And then so you saw and I back to back. Okay, I could be wrong but I know that you hadn't seen them, you know, like yeah. Kim, Tom Brady Asli, just saw the first few so give it to me. So, so John wick is a movie that I think, like almost everyone is heard of. And everyone a lot of people have seen it after at least, John wick to right. Like I don't think that the first John wick was like soup it didn't do super well in the theaters, but it became really sort of colty in popular. So, by the time, John wick to came out there was like, more people on the bandwagon. And now John wake three. I think that, like people are firmly in the mainstream here on this film that like people go out in droves to see this. Movie at this point, or like a really familiar with it at this point, I you know, I'm, I'm sort of hit or miss with action movies. I, I don't. I don't hate them as a John Rowe. But it's not necessarily something that I like seek out and I had several people tell me to not see the movie like Carolyn. You're one of them like, like I don't think you would like this. This isn't your Cup of tea. And so, I was like, all right. Whatever I also so my ex made me sit down and watch a movie called the raid, which I don't know if you've ever heard of it. Oh, yes. So it's an Indonesian action film that is basically like just fighting through a apartment building. And it's like every level you're like, yeah. Go in after people, and I had I made them turn it off after like fifteen minute. Oh, you picked up on this, but John wick three nods, specifically to the raid like the main character, the main actors main martial artists from the radar featured pretty prominently. Yeah, John, Wayne. Oh, nice. Yeah. So I also kind of for some reason it was like I think it's going to be in this Johner. Yeah. It was not something that I particularly enjoyed. So I probably wouldn't like it anyways at that, now that it's like this thing I've started to get curious about it, and I'd been wanting to watch it for a couple of years now and just never got around. And so since YouTube wanted to talk about in the podcast was like now is the time. So I watched one and two back to back, which, I don't think is a good idea..

"Assassins governed by a mysterious organization, known as the high table after breaking one of the high tables rules near the end of John wick to canner Reeves, melancholy killer, is declared excommunicated as John wick three begins. He's on the run with a massive bounty on his head and seemingly, every assassin in the world out to get him. All right. I would like us to start with very briefly talking about our relationships with the John wick franchise. Sure briefly. Okay. Yes. Brigham actually talking about this movie. Right. So, but I feel like John wick is this cult classic at this point. And everyone kind of has some relationship to it, whether they've seen it or not. Right. So I start like I saw the I didn't see the first film in the theaters. I, I kind of heard people talking about it. I'm like, you know, a sounds like it doesn't sound like something for me, right? It sounds like a pretty generic killer. Assassin whatever movie where the body count is massive. And I don't know. I I'll take a pass on that. But the kind of buzz around it continued to grow as people kind of framed it as something a little unusual little special little different. And so when it was released on, I dunno on online on demand. I watched it. And I was, you know, I have to admit, like I was I absolutely thought that it is those things like it is that violent just relentlessly brutal action film, and yet I found myself, drawn to Kia news kind of performance as this melancholy, you know, haunted again. Legendary assassin and, and also with, like the world building, you know, it, I it created this kind of what I felt to be kind of fun world, with the with these hotels that are that are inhabited by frequented by assassins. And where there's like this whole secret society in these codes of conduct, and everything, and you have an actor like. Ian McShane in this position of prestige, who's just fun to watch and, and kind of holds that kind of dignity and air about him really well, so and then so going into into two, I liked to in a different way. Whereas, I think the first focused more on in a way on Kiani on John wicks kind of loneliness and his desire to his anger about. You know, not being able to quote unquote, grieve on a loan for the loss of his wife, like the second one it kind of expanded on the world building with where when you get to the point where you realize like. Oh, God like everyone in this world is like kind of an on the assassin network. You know, when John wick goes excommunicate, or whatever there's like text messages that go out to like that..

"Absurd like that. And now a few quick items in this week's Kiana watch twenty nineteen. So Keanu Reeves has publicly said that he wants to play, John Constantine again. So constantine. It is really fun. I mean just a great another great kind of counter Reeves role, just kind of I dunno smoldering. Haunted, you know, hard live in detective paranormal detective guy. I would love to see a new Constantin film, so. Yeah. So that was good news and Mark your calendars, everyone. Because John wick chapter four will be released on may twenty first twenty twenty one already like the marvel of of action movies. Yeah. I'm hoping it'll suppresses even and it's like the Star Wars leg. You know every year there's a new injury in week universe. What we need is then for it to become like the extended, John wick, which I guess is happening right? There's a TV series, the continental or something coming where it's not county Reeves, obviously, it's not John wake, but it's the John wick universe. So because Kiana can't shoulder every tent pole movie, how dare unique ill though. Oh. That's so exciting. It is. "Okay. I've missed John wick one and John wick house, John wick three bay about the same. So John whikiss counter Reeves. Halle Berry is in this Laurence. Fishburne all-star cast, and they've been in some of the other released in some of the other ones. So here's the deal. So John wick is a super assassin K, and there is a think of it as the assassins. Union other unionized their guild, if you will. Well, he, he violates the code if you will. So they put a hit out on his head. So this movie is two hours and ten minutes. Hold on a bad thing. Okay. Of John wick, killing people in every conceivable way you can think of. Wow. Actually, one of the jokes is out. There is like that people were trying to keep track of the body count. And they can't. This will be is bloody. Exactly. The story. There's a hit on his head. He has to try to find redemption. This people are now going for the story, I can acknowledge that, you know, know, if you haven't seen one in two you might be a little Austin this. There's a lot of call backs to the previous movies is maybe why things happen and number three basically picks up at the last scene of, of number two, basically. So go back and see to at least two and three but for the type of people that want to go see enjoy John wick one enjoyed John week, to like that kind of action like that kind of death and destruction. John MC three is, is it on steroids on the on the one to five scale I gave John Waco four. Wow. Okay. It's for this is exactly what people expect the care less about

Next Week A Review Of John Wick: Chapter 3

"Our John wick chapter three pair of elbow reviewing XP. We're a great draft next week. We're going to do like whatever you classify John, wick Ethan, hunt and all them as bad ass movie characters. We'll figure something out starting for John tro. I'm excited for John wick. And it's getting great reviews. It is not that I had any fears about the movie a new right? I wasn't scared. I'm just excited for another John Wakeman. I kind of want to watch the first one at least for going into it. I might actually do that as my watch the first one tonight, second kid myself hyped up again.

New Ghost Recon game leaked ahead of official reveal

"Caz, usual. The only time we talk about this goes recon thing is when it's breaking news. And then you're wrong. Apparently, there's been a leak I saw pop up over here on read it image leaked out that talks about Tom Clancy's ghost recon, breakpoint wolves collector's edition. So maybe that hasn't been officially there was a good question here, though, because you not tomorrow is this question here from Andrew dramas, maybe in sedro mouse. Good morning. I'd like to hear your thoughts and weather the review of our ghost recon could be something that isn't Usov has as another. I p people speculating that watchdogs is going to invade this ghost recon thing and then invade because technically what it was twenty seventeen that we got wild lands which wasn't that long to us. And then we got watchdogs in two thousand sixteen. So it feels like, and we watch Ben the Saint they're gonna combine to know people are saying that which I fucking bayton. Ghost recon is all bullshit. Oh, a hacked watch. Just put out a piece of deal sea story DLC that has Shane from the Walking Dead and the punisher what I can never remember his name sorry in it. And so it's like this thing of are they trying to drum up this excitement for ghost recon. So that they can take the start this thing. We're doing the goes into goes like, bro. It's like dead second. It's like I liked the I don't know that there's that. But with the image. Does it look markedly different than the version from twenty seventeen all the jungle and heartfelt? What do you mean? In other words, is it looked like it might be said, and it was like whatever south much. This guy. There's this thing on at here. That's a screen grab. And it's like, it's a dude. Like a poncho. It looks like generic dude with the giant gun hard to tell it would be fucking awesome. I think if they were and I was like, well, why don't you do assassin's creed? Oh, well, hasn't to get people. Really angry goes recon a smaller Ubisoft franchise enough. And you just got a piece of story. I think you just hit the nail head though. Do you really want to piss off your on the dose recom- fast by doing this sounds fun? But I think it's going to be ghost recon.

"But at least it seems like he did have a full good life, which is more than some people can say, yeah, for sure, and I I know we also have an article on the site that rounds up all the kind words from his co stars from the Star Wars films, including Harrison Ford. Mark Hamill, George Lucas and more J J Abrams I'll link than the show if you want to read that but we must move on. Let's talk about John wick chapter three the first early buzz hit the web and couldn't your own T Christie did around up. Our I is this movie as good as chapter one chapter two. Apparently. So I could not find a single negative reaction. In fairness, the film has not screened for everyone yet. Like, for instance. I haven't seen it a lot of critics. I know actually, I haven't seen it. There were some very early. Screenings for junket coverage. So that might explain why they're so few negative coverage at the moment. But literally every review I review every tweet. I could find last night was not just positive, but overwhelmingly positive everyone says, you know, the action is even better the mythology is is even better there were few people who said that it's not as good as part two. But it's more entertaining. If you wanna make sense of that. But yet there's there's not a single negative review. I could find yell again that might change. What's more critic, see it? But as of now, it looks like John wick chapter three is definitely going to deliver. If you're a fan of this ranch is which I feel like everyone is I don't think I've ever met someone who doesn't like this franchise at least a little the only time that they are not a fan of this franchise is if they haven't seen the movie, yes. Yeah. Exactly or their dog lover. And don't. To see the movie, Chris, I know you have a problem with in a mole deaths on screen was hesitation of not seeing John wick. I did I did have reservations. But I sucked up and saw it. I will admit that anytime, I rewired the first movie I fast forward the dog Desi just because I can't I can't do it. You know once was enough for me. You know, I don't know problem with John wick, murdering people but the minute of dog dies. I can't take it. So whatever I really watch part one. I fast forward that's eight. And thankfully, there have they haven't killed any dog since and I guess sort of a spoiler, but H T R O H E who saw the film confirm to us that there are no dog deaths in part three. So we're safe on that front. I'm safe going into that. It's that we're going to get a dog actually killing humans in this. Yeah. And that's fine. You know, I'm a okay with that. Just kill the dogs dig up any more excited for the film. Now, I am thrilled. Go on the record about my feelings on John wick many times. And I do agree that it's hard to watch that puppy die in part one. But I also think that John wick is one of the very few movies. Even does outlandish way to actually have a sincere emotional reaction to a dog death and actually treat it with weight as opposed to being an example of how scary something is. So knowing that Heli Barry's character in the new movie has a couple of dogs. We probably are trained stunt dogs who bite lots of bad guys at death, the dollar get the revenge this time, and I'm very happy to hear that. Okay. Let's talk about willow. We you know, when I talked to Ron Howard for solo Star Wars star. He told me that something was in development. It seemed like he was not involved. Now, we have learned more. It seems like it's a sequel TV series, and he might actually be involved. Jacob we now. Yeah. Howard was on interview on the happy sad confused podcasts..

"I like that analogies shutout to invoke Shane to McShane one of the more underrated characters in this universe. His character interest as an actor general say, this looks looks great man, young heart. I still think you'll be nice if they did the John wick Jason born Jack Reacher crossover movie where all fighting each other. And then he he lands next to some cabins, and he he rummages through the cabins to find guns and a first he finds a silver gun. But then he finds a green gun and he drops the silver gun for the green gun. They're obviously going to do something like that one point right? What if he's in an apartment building in the gay go through their into some kids room or something in the kids playing fortnight? And then he takes the door shut controller and kills a guy with little Easter, John wick character Easter egg fortnight, and yeah, I wondered when we will start seeing fortnight references and TV shows and movies. I saw four that referenced Silicon Valley. Remember? Yeah. They did. They also referenced it in. Well, they didn't reference you saw quick battle bus. You too. We want Reckitt Ralph. Oh, yeah. That. Yeah. That's right. I didn't see the latest season Silicon Valley. I don't think so John wick chapter three para bellum long title. I don't know why they call it anything to stick with chapter three. Looks looks pretty awesome. They also did the horse thing. They showed the horse clip. I was surprised they did that the popular horse, John wick on a horse Meam. They did show him actually firing the gun, which is where we see the clip from. So that was cool unexpected. And I'd see that. But everyone seems like the trailer. We've complained about it before we don't like kids being the main part of our action movies, which I guess sounds poopie pants, but I don't know about that one. I don't know. It's the kids being the main characters I just don't like it. When a kid is a character and everything hinges on the kid for some reason, my favorite Godzilla Millie, Bobby Brown. It's like a bunch of adults. And then she somehow holds the key like predator. Just I think that's kind of my echo that same sentiment because I didn't like the kid and throw a predator at all. And even it then being the main focus away for from a little bit for me. And I know you guys like it more than I did. I don't know. I never not a huge Ghostbusters person. As is. So I don't think that making them kids necessarily moves the needle at all for the for me. I think it'd be cool if the ghosts were dead historical figures like exclusively in this one nearly had this Nick. No, just like Thomas Jefferson. I know it's hard reference..

Let's move out of this other trailer that drop today for John wick three completing the trilogy is called John wick Barabas. This is a great. Direction for John wick because if the beginning of the first, John, Wayne, right? He was so far on John wick. Yes. Previously out and then they kill his dog. Yes. So he gets back in any fuck and kills everybody in on the earth. And then now he wants to get out again. And now he's got a bounty on his head, and everyone is after him every you have not watched the John wicks corrective, not so I just want to know what you think is trailer from like just watching it out of context. So this this was my first thought, and I've seen clips of the other movies. I was like, wow this movies shot beautifully and the color. The way they light everything. Yeah. The blacks are actually black. So everything else pops. Really, well, so the setting or whoever the cinematographer is and the case you choosing grading is beautiful. So that's all I had on everything else. I've heard a ton of hype about the John wake films, but having not seen the other to the the context is lost on me in this third one. Okay. But we gotta watch off three. Okay. First of all Steve lease patriotic patriots supporter. Steve has movie pick is John wick. I think we saw soon get it up on the next phase do next I think we should do next Jessie Rodriguez commented what I've been waiting for in in my opinion. This is up there with endgame guests. I may sucker for gun food. And you know, what I Jesse Rodriguez? I also a sucker for gun food a second half of this trailer. It's fucking action in this movie. Looks amazing. I love what he's got a machine gun. He's shooting at the guy. And then he just fucking throws the machine got an end over end at the guy. He's not a horse shooting guy to hit out. Motorcycle.
