"Still? Yeah, I mean, right now, I mean, it's pretty much abandoned. But what I hear, like, after Escobar gets killed, the police vacated the ranch and I think I don't know who came in from the government to try to take it over. Or I think what they did would U.S. Marshals do they hire caretakers for it, right? Care for it. They were supposed to turn it into a big museum type ranch and that never happened because it is kind of far and it is a lot of farc and AUC people, the paramilitary park are still out there. So it was a little bit on the dangerous side. And in fact, people will not drive their because, you know, I mean, you are going to be going to the badlands. That is correct. So Steve, let's go back to what you were talking about. So John Walsh came down there with his crew to film for a week. I mean, so one thing we all have in common, we've all met John Walsh, you know? Well, he didn't come. He didn't, he sent a producer in the film. Oh, he didn't come down. Now the producer, he was the mouthpiece of the show. He was the host rattling, which call that person. He was the one that was on camera. And we would point things out to him, we'd take him to different places, I remember one time we were in Medellín and the report came in of a bombing going off in one of the barrios, so we all jumped into police cars and hall butt out there and they got some footage out there. We're building had been blown up by Escobar's associates. Oh, okay. I thought you may have been down there because I know he had gone to, I think, Mexico a couple of times or some other places, you know, putting on the helmet and the vest, you know, obviously trying to create drama, but so they made a TV show at anything come out of it at all. They just put it on their like, say they're looking for them and no leads, no nothing out of it. I'm sure some leads came in because of everybody wanted that reward money, but nothing legitimate. Right. And also, you know what? Let's not forget. And I think Steve and I were interviewed for this one, too. Is that Brits, mercenaries, had been hired in this around 1988, British mercenaries had been hired by the Cali cartel to go kill Pablo, attack him at his famous ranch napolis. And in fact, there's a lot of stuff on that where they planned the operation. It was financed by the Cali cartel..

Walsh's brother john walsh son and The fugitive hunter john walsh's focusing with his son on finding this guy Brian laundry i mean there sightings all around the state. I put the picture that was taken of him on the trail cam at our website. But if you see something you need to call either. America's most wanted well. He used to do america's most wanted. It doesn't pursuit now. But or the fbi John walsh's quote was really pretty out there to agree with it but he quote he said laundry is a scumbag and the parents need to pay a price. I'm glad somebody's pointing that out about them. I think the the very least they gave me a headstart and hid this information from the potato family which is awful in her van. Yeah goes for a bike ride with his mom right. My gosh. where's your normal. So we'll we'll keep on top of that for you okay. At the same token they may he may have lied to his parents so we'll give him the benefit of doubt at the beginning when he came back he could've said oh she's still stayed. She wanted to stay told me to home. Yeah you don't know what he said to his parents had and then they found out that she was missing and it was like well. The fbi raid turned up apparently some felonious. Then maybe you're on their computers or something but they found some stuff so we'll we'll find out that more coming up all right. Karen.

The men she was with, told police that she also consumed cocaine and pills. It's a fuzzy picture. But I think if you look closely At the content In this picture. You will see who Lauren is. We're eating dinner, Robbie the phone ring. I would dance the phone and Robbie said Shar Lauren's missing from a 2020 special that aired last year on ABC. It's really Heart stopping. No tips came in that led police anywhere but to dead ends like Motorola way were saved A tip It was it was anonymous tip and there wasn't a lot of information with it, but it was very specific. So since we had the specificity, we did go ahead and have our dive team, go down the Lake Monroe and take a look out. That theory that was described with negative results. No, this to the person or persons that have Lauren We miss her terribly. She's very dear to us. We love her very much Lauren Spears. Parents sued the men she went out with on the night of June 3rd 2011. That group did not include her boyfriend, but did include Cory Rosman, Jay Rosen Bomb and Michael Beth. The men would not take Polygraphs from police, and that led to speculation about whether or not they were involved in her death, or if they saw her overdose and dumped her body to avoid charges. But that part is just a theory. Three months after spirit disappeared, her parents hired the private eye firm, a former NYPD did. Active. You can't do very much without being caught on someone's video camera in Bloomington, There was some voids. Unfortunately, those voids have since been covered. However, on June 3rd 2011, there was some voids durable. Oh says..

"The airport named for a man who died in a plane crash. For my heart media. This is missing in Alaska. The story of two congressmen who vanished in 1972 and my quest to figure out what happened to them. I'm your host, John Walsh, Zach I want to talk for a minute about bodies. Specifically, the importance of recovering physical remains in the wake of tragedies. No matter how someone dies when you lose a loved one If you lack a body, you're denied some sense of finality. This is something. Hale Boggs daughter Cokie Roberts discussed multiple times before she died. How she knew her dad was dead. But without a body, she still imagine him just walking in the door one day. On October 8 2019 on Lee 24 hours before I landed in Anchorage, A man named Brian Steven Smith was arrested at the airport for murder. But it wasn't a body that led to his arrest. It was a memory card. On the card and SD card, which someone found on a downtown street, where photos and videos of a man strangling a woman to death and laughing while he did it. Four days later, While in Anchorage, I awoke to another violent video. This one streamed to the world from my city, New Orleans, where a hotel under construction partially collapsed into the street. Spewing up a dust cloud reminiscent of 9 11 and killing three men. Amazingly, as of this recording eight months later, the bodies of two of those men are still stuck in the wreckage. Both of these events, the SD card murder and the hotel collapse are tragic. Both killed people. But in one case, a body was recovered. The remains of Kathleen Joe Henry, the SD card victim were found on the side of a highway. And the other two families are still waiting to bury their loved ones..

And i've thought to be selfish but i can't know crazy in the middle of it senator. Anybody and good you know. I can't imagine your circumstances. Because i think any podcast launched might drive one crazy much less a subject matter of yours say you know it strikes me right the city of your interest in this because you have the interest in the story telling and the writing and the you know the all the work like journalism rate all that stuff that goes into being able to tell the story but then you have the Like you said use your musical interest and writing the music in the sounds and all that then you have kind of the production event and a lot right. Yeah it's probably. I will say in some ways easier for you because you have that diversity of interest in background and also at a suspect makes it harder. Because you're you have so much that you're trying to do with the with these podcasts. In these episodes yeah exactly it. It's a perfect. It was a perfect storm. I didn't know what a podcast was. When i was taking creative writing or even when i was writing for those papers that i use those tools eventually and the music and the music production in the mixing and all in all it was just a perfect storm. Which almost like you have to do it. You have to do this because look at look. You've got all these skill sets that you just kind of.

"Of one of our true crime podcast that'll leave an impressive footprint. I'm floating in water naked. Salt burns my eyes, but it doesn't matter. They're of no use. Everything is black. I hold my hand and from my face, but I can't see my fingers. Total silence. I'm in an isolation tank. Picture a big horizontal leg half filled with water you climb in, pull down the hatch, Seal yourself in and float. The idea is to eliminate sensory overload. Relieve anxiety, boost creativity, focus. Or, conversely, go blank. I don't send out though. I think about this story. About how the missing man likely crashed into water and drowned about the violence of nature and the brutality of loss. About my burning eyes. For my heart media. This is missing in Alaska, the story of two congressmen who vanished in 1972. And my quest to figure out what happened to them. I'm your host John Walsh. Full disclosure. This was supposed to be our final.

"To stray or anyone else with a question for John Walsh from the nation two one two four three three W. NYC two one two four three three nine six nine two or audience here in the green space raise your hand then we'll come around with a microphone to go back to that one clip that we played she finished that thought seeming to position herself as not in any wing of the party even though her early reputation has been from the progressive wing along with Sanders do you see one repositioning herself as more of a unity candidate than before absolutely you know partly because it's we're we're getting to the end well the beginning of the end but there's been a year long primary and so when I saw her in Iowa I was I wrote about this at the time I was struck by the fact that she was calling out you know I was so sad the Comilla had to drop out and Corey had to drop out because money just as billionaire's were getting into the race you know I've I called Kamilla and asked about her you know reproductive rights plan I called Houston jeweler Brandon asked if I could use her family leave plan you know she's definitely now trying trying I don't know if it's working but trying to this yourself as the person who's bringing in the disappointed supporters of the folks who dropped out along the way and I and I think she's also realizing if she has a lane I hate to talk about lanes but if she has a if if she if she can get out of this early ditch the cheese then and it is still early it just might be getting a little bit not away from the left keeping her positions intact but I think she made a fundamental mistake at the beginning and I saw and I thought she was right so I I made a mistake of trying to position herself as close to Bernie believing that all the people all the Bernie supporters it in twenty sixteen said I want to vote for a woman just not that woman the corporate shell whatever I would have voted for Elizabeth Warren for example you know I literally could name people who said that now are you know hounding her with snake imho Jeez and calling her the worst you know the worst names in the world so you know Bernie to his credit in twenty sixteen saw this run Elizabeth run semi movement waited to see if she would run talk to her she said no I'm not running and then he ran but she I think she looked at that and said well wow that movement really started for me and I have you know a lot of the same positions as Bernie on and a lot of experience I'm going to go after those voters and I think she also hoped for a while the Bernie would not run but he did so you know she I think go it's really thinking she could pull significant support away from Bernie in the beginning was probably a mistake and I've seen commentary in several media outlets that says the voters one loss compared to last summer November when she was bleeding yes Hampshire polls did not go to Sanders the other anti obviously the other anti big money you know progressive as people might assume the week magazine I pulled the click here to read call are they had an article called for theories for why Warren supporters didn't break for Sanders in New Hampshire and the main three were policy differences electability assessments and that they always had different based demographics to begin with so I'm just curious how much of it if any of that you think is right I think it is right I mean that that's what the numbers are telling us in the numbers told us that to some extent in Iowa as well people who supported war and see no softly and then moved away or or were at least considering her actually tended to be people who want an alternative to Sanders and so it is kind of counter intuitive if we put them both in that progressive left leaning Medicare for all lane but for other other voters aren't doing it that way and so some voters want a woman as I do and did I started out thinking they were for you know for great female senators it is when when they whatever had to had reservations they want to close the charter somebody wants someone someone new which Warren is you know she's not young but she's well she's a youthful and she's younger than some of these other guys they want with someone really young mayor Pete so so yeah I think she I think she miscalculated on where her support would be the suburban women I mean she also you know somewhat belatedly has pitched herself as the the you know of a feminist candidate she didn't do that as much but you know again with hindsight it's easy to say but you know that twenty eighteen wave the took back the Congress was largely powered by suburban women ends so you know she's I think she is recalibrating not again not in terms of her stands but in terms of of her pitch and I think it's the right thing to do if it's not too late let's take a phone call online six Judith in Westchester you're on WNYC hi Judith hi I'm I just wanted to comment on what you were speaking about earlier regarding disparaging remarks or about mayor Pete rather than a distributing the visit in destructive remarks to a fractured Democratic Party have you considered the possibility a Russian disinformation involvement remember the old saying saying you want for me once shame on you yada yada so I think that that is a very real concern in my mind and I hope it's a real concern in the Democratic Party and democratic voters mine this is the thought that people would never have had before twenty sixteen that's right Russia is out there planting the idea that some Democrats are being homophobic against the others right you know and there were there was a study in the summer that showed that there were you know there was a lot of Russian biotic to the and its top target was senator Kamel Harris and they were spreading you know memes from the left that region and on the left about her criminal justice past there is not a lot of evidence so far although it could be true that that is what's targeting on mayor Pete unfortunately I happen to know personally some of the folks who are are peddling this but some of it can be then amplified by Russian bots for sure I think we have to you know if you're on social media at really drill down on someone's account when you start to see you know somebody with no profile picture and eight digits after their name and they just signed up a month ago and they have zero followers report that person and let Twitter deal with them and I and I do I haven't seen seen that so much with the mayor Pete stuff but I have seen it let's go to another caller line nine Scott in the Bronx got your run with John Walsh from the nation hi Scott hi there guys I was a I was a warm supporter until about I guess two or three months ago and I was I was kind of disappointed when she tried to distance herself I think from burning by kind of backtracking somewhat Medicare for all and expanding the time period that you said this you would be able to ordered that she would fight to to install it and and then between that and I actually had hadn't found so recently that she used to be a Republican I think until around her mid forties and and I just I can't really understand how someone could have been you know someone who progressive my vote for it was a Republican through center living for Nixon and and the bushes and Reagan and Kissinger you know you kind of have to be a very heartless person through a Republican for for all these demons like that Scott John I I think I'd rather somebody who had it right from from the beginning and and you know wasn't fooled until they're not but you know maybe the late eighties or so so that would be very for you I'm guessing right I think so at this point thank you John I you know I think they're a lot of people like Scott who us eat particularly on the Medicare for all change I wouldn't say she backed away from Bernie or the force for that she backed away from Medicare for all I would say that she was realistic about how what it's going to take to phase it in and I think you know we're starting to see us Sanders people on Twitter saying you know he's not going to have sixty votes on so we if he's president he's going to have to phase it in as well and so what you know one of the things that I personally like about what what warranted in her plan is that she's really focused on the the you know the fastest way to get the most people help that she can either do with executive orders or with fifty one votes hoping that you know we we have fifty one democratic votes in the Senate to to restore all the protections of obamacare and expand on them I so you know I think she's just being realistic and I think she you know this got god bless Bernie but no one really she was dogs to come up with a plan and how she's going to pay for it for two months no one dogs Bernie about it no one no you know Bernie just said bring literally said to a reporter you know the numbers guy I don't know the numbers gonna be so high it'll freak everybody out so I I'm not giving numbers you know the woman would be allowed to get away with that I mean you know people have studied women in politics you have to prove that your credential and so often that means just getting down in the weeds of of policies and and you know live with Warren who set up the consumer protection of it for consumer financial protection bureau you know probably help more Americans in need than practically speaking then then then Bernie has got brought bless them so you know the ID dear she knows how to get things done and she's very pragmatic while being progressive so that's you know that's what she has in her corner but I've heard so many people like Scott talk about that juncture being when they began not to trust her by the way here's an indication of how suspicious people get about each other when we're in campaigns a listener just tweeted I don't believe Scott in quotes who claim to be for water and then Bernie in other words this was always a Bernie supporter any just claim to have previously been for Elizabeth one we've we get this so much this is a little behind the scenes of right you get it too definitely you can't say anything any little piece of analysis in two thousand eight your cell by you for Obama you are so biased for Clinton like every other line right and it went you know through other election cycles and it is you should have seen our Twitter the other day went back to back to back to back you hate Pete you Elizabeth you hate Amy you hate burning yeah yeah I I get I get that to even that I'm propping up Bernie or that.

"Start working at this company, there are a couple of people that you run into in the hallways in your. One of those people one of the titans of this industry. Bobbly was the conscience of ESPN, and he has been that for forty years. One of the greatest professionally seen in his business heart of gold, mentally, generous and kind culture. Bob Lee, his created still resonates through that program through these holes every single day that there aren't enough words to say thank you, Bob for all that you have done. Whatever it is that you're gonna do on your side enjoyed the time with your grandkids and just self. When Dave Goren cold me in January. I was absolutely flabbergasted in honored. That I gotta learn little bit more about the hall. I really need to know about the whole, so I go online. And that's when I'm floor because I'm a student of history, so you can go to their website literally can scroll with your fingers, who's in the hall of fame and in reverse chronological order, the most recent and you start with all of these names of the men and women whose work, I hold in the highest esteem, take your finger down your touch panel further now you're down to the legends the titans in our profession. Get down to red barber who I grew up watching doing the Yankee games on channel eleven in New York, who I had a short phone conversation with in nineteen Ninety-one the night that Leo Durocher died. And I got to the old red head and I was just blown away. And then to learn that would be entering this home in company with doc, Peter and Tony three gentlemen, who are excellence personified. I really can't imagine anything greater. Bob Lee just two nights ago. North Carolina being inducted into the national sports media, sociation hall of fame. Bob, we talked a little bit about the things have been going through your mind last you, since you were nounce that you're retiring. You were so close to so many people from the beginning here, obviously, who are the people you're thinking about today. People on this show, certainly, who you spend more time with than you do your family. That's important. But the people I who I reached out to George Bodenheimer, former president of the network did me a solid about four or five years ago. He left the company re retired similar circumstances in that had not been -ticipant. Did he called me that morning about three or four hours head noticed because we go back way back to the birth? And last night, I reached out to George to give him the similar props and John Walsh. Steve Anderson, vid story guys like that. Who wanted to let no Mike, good friend sandy pathway. Edited my statement, which is a former dean of the Columbia University, you can get a better journalism, graduate school journalism, titan Sports Illustrated, guys like that. And so many people though, who in just off, this is, you know, this, this is for I the easiest job in the world, I sit out here in front for all of these people and they. Make me look good. And they have through the years. Those are the people, and as I said, the prelude to my statement to many people to if I started naming names, you'll leave people out, I will circle back and thank them all, but it's if our careers and lives of touched each other. Thank you. It means a great deal. You said you're retiring from ESPN doesn't necessarily mean you're not ever going to work again. Well, what are the things that might be next for you training for an m a career? If working on that. I think we're so seeded with, with you have, and I see this sitting here thinking about little vinegar, wouldn't hurt is a bottle of Stag's leap in front of you. And you, you just noticed, please do because it's might as well you I thank you. I haven't even had breakfast. That's far more than enough. Thank you. But I've got some thoughts and some ideas and certainly educations part of it. I was raised to believe it's very important. Some people in my life, where associate with other schools have even reached out today offered to chance for me to become involved at some things. And there's my alma mater, that's important. And. And. You make decisions like this from the most important things in your life with your family, and friends and. That's, that's at the front of my temporal lobe right now, our old friend John swat ski who is the. Guru might not approve of the way I am phrasing this question. But with all the things you've achieved all the things you've done here, all the ways in which you help build this place. One of the foundational people here. What are the things you're most proud of? I've often said that the thing that, that's not an uncommon question. And I reflected on especially in the last week since we told the company that in by the I do want to say, let me just parenthetically say the company's been magnificent through this through the leave through my process. Jimmy patera was senior team. And I said at the statement, but it needs to be said on their thank you of the they were magnificent. But thinking about all of that I'm proud to being part of being in at the ground floor of something that's become an American cultural institution. I don't think you can write the cultural history of the United States for the last forty or fifty years, without being a chapter on sports entertainment industry. And this, this entity which was at just TV one TV network to begin with this. Now a global monolith without without talking about it. I'm proud of that. I'm proudest of outside the lines. What we've achieved there. I think we've provoked a lot of thought sportscenter another institution that was on the on the bottom end. The things we did. I think covering soccer. We promised ourselves at the twenty ten World Cup would change our lives in South Africa change a lot of things change the way this country looked at the sport. And I spent about three months in country all told that it, it was very impactful. Well, I just wanna say as we prepared wrap up here, and it seems surreal, this is the last time on air on it'd be in the studio, which, which we referred to is the house, the studio that Bob built. It's you've been a mentor, you have been a great friend. You've been a tremendous colleague. You've been a role model in worse than that. You've been great company for the last twenty six years wherever we have been around the world, and we are all going to miss you tremendously. There's no one who means more to this place with DNA to what it is at the molecular level, and I think is. Many people expressed today. It is incumbent upon all the bus to perpetuate your legacy here to do the kind of work that we hope will make you proud future, that nothing would please me more than continuing to consumed. Tune in to read and just to see the reaction to great stuff being done here. And if anything I did is small role going forward. That's good stuff. This is sitting here today. Chip fiercer. And if you don't mind my saying, that's good. This is your also a Beatles maven among many other things I think we could say you pass the addition. Yes. Our boys in the band. Very glad God bless thank you..

"Coming up in about twenty minutes. I got it. It's an interesting news on jeopardy. So you wanna hang in for that. I'll tell you about that. Oh, this is a story that I kind of stumbled across and it involves a, a democrat. Well, a woman who won a GOP, formerly held GOP seat in, in north North Carolina. Actually being Georgia and her name is Lucy. Mc bath. And it was it was kind of like a suburban revolt against Trump. And she the, the woman, she was a woman named Karen Handel of Republican, and she lost her seat. Back in twenty. AT and like the lot of lot of it was me to in two thousand eighteen. Right. A lot of. Attention paid to what women were going through. And this woman in particular had gone through a lot because her teenage son, Jordan days. Davis was senselessly shot to death while working at a gas station. And so, you know, so she ran on gun control, and on, on focusing on gun control and health care in the ads that you ran against your opponent, who had been against any kind of gun legislation and also a Trumper and. Republicans ran these scare tactics. Trying to tie MacBeth. You know, again, too Nancy Pelosi, the GOP's favored, boogie woman and the attacks fell flat. And MacBeth one despite the fact Republicans had long held the seat. She cared it by two point margin and Trump had won that area by two point margin in two thousand sixteen and she wanted big anyway. So now the national national Republicans are working hard to get MacBeth out. So, so you got it. So you got handle the woman that was there before, and MacBeth, who is there now MacBeth ran on, on not the fact that her son had been murdered, but it was known as part of her background background in made her politically active is that there's a lot of people I mean, I need to know. John is pretty good. John Walsh, was the guy who was from America's most wanted me and his son was taken killed, and decapitated in Florida thirty some years ago and you know. It does. I can get what motivates people like that. So they were this woman handle was doing a fundraiser, and at this fundraiser, she was overheard talking about her opponent, and she was saying that she's going to she has to run against you won't be able to do this. Well, cops say when they pull them over. They found Walsh and his girlfriend inside of the vehicle girlfriend says she dared him to do it because he said it was legal to do. So in Rhode Island. "Feeling like you're treating yourself or rewarding yourself for a long day and hard work, and then you can say, okay. What else would do that? Or can we make an agreement on something else that will get you partway there? But it'd be doesn't become a battle or denying that part. Yeah. It's it's not like to the level of self disgust or anything like that. It's more just kind of disappointed in my my lack of of impulse control. If I look if the rest of. My life and being fifteen years so Burr and. You know, doing a lot of internal work. I'm proud of who I am. But it's like the last thing that I'm holding onto and I think it's affecting my health a little bit. And I I want to it's something I would really love to get a handle on. But I also when I am making that fourth pop tart and going, you know, we're we're little wound up here. There's a part of me that wants to understand it better without just going shut the fuck up. Let's have our forth pop tart because we love sitting on the couch, and it feels feels warm eating it feels like I'm giving myself at treat. There we go. So the question is your this is the thing that you're doing that gives yourself you've used this many times in the podcast, which is the your coping mechanisms the child become your character defenses, adult. Yeah. And so it's something that was a deputy for you at one point, you know, doing this with something that was helpful. And maybe it was the only thing you had at that moment. And then it gets locked into us or programmed as being the thing that we default to so approach with this is recognizing what need is that filling? And then diversifying. What else can I try to fill that need? Let me try three other things. I like warmth. What happens if I I'm just gonna make stuff up? What if I do warm blanket non me at night? Or what if I do? I sip some t that's warm and comforting or soup or something else is that about something about my stomach. You know, trying these other things out until you might discover something that least gets you partway there. Okay. But the key the key with this whole thing is not denying the need. That's behind it. Because that's shutting out that part again or assigning quality. Yeah. To it. Yeah. Judging it judging it. Yeah. Let's talk about your childhood a little bit. And what led you to want to get into psychiatry who fucked you up, Paul? Think anybody five well, I had a neighbor who told me about your America's most wanted? So I had a lot of phobias as a kid. And when he told me about that I then had nightmares for years of someone coming into my house and kidnapping me. But it was, you know, hold review, probably like six who focus this neighbor. Somebody your age or an adult. No us about peace, probably like nine. Oh, okay. So he was like. When it dealt next door. Now, he's not like traumatizing kid. You seem to be having a good time. You know, you're on a wear that Adam Walsh's, son wound up in a cornfield skeleton. Let me show you some photos really visualize it for you. Yeah. I became so I've had all kinds of phobias.
