So I was downtown running my boat around with Some of the coaching staff on the boat, and and there was quite a few dead fish in the upper bay to this problem runs all the way now. You know, Penelas point all the way up to the Gandhi all the way to the Howard Franklin and it's working its way North so In my 25 years of fishing Tampa Bay I've never seen Red tide this bad and the bad news is It's going to get worse. Warm weather. Warm water is not red tides, friend. So When when you have an outbreak like this caused by the piney point. Catastrophe. Um, when you have it this early in the water temps are still in the mid eighties. Things are going to get way worse before they get better. Captain Mike, I'll be a very long, very long summer. Yeah, I heard you on Beckles and retro the other day, and I found it very interesting when you said, and I forgot exactly what fish we're talking about. But there are some fish that you know they fight red tide. They're pretty strong against their fighters. Pretty resilient fish, even those fish and you have to remind me the specific fish we're talking about. Even they're struggling with red tide right now. Yeah. Harping. You know, Tarpon are fish that will usually because giant carpenter really a scavenger, You know, they tend to work the outside edges of the red tide and pick off those fish that are That are starting to to pass. And, um, we're finding dead tarp in scattered all over the bag. Um and that's a real problem again. This is It's real upsetting for those of us that are so tied to it. I know not everybody is although we should be because this affects every single one of us, you know? Um, I know the news media is trying to downplay it a little bit. I give you guys a lot of credit for having me on and I appreciate it. But you know your channel AIDS and channel 13 and all of them, you know, they try to put a little blurb up there about it, but they don't want to say too much because it affects tourism and all that stuff and And that tourism trickles down to all of us. Every single person that lives here in Florida were a tourism based economy. Um and and until we get our politicians on board To start doing the right things not take checks. From these from these chemical companies and all that. We're never going to get this straightened out. Um, you know, City of Tampa and city of Saint Pete. Both dumped Major amounts of sewage. Into Tampa Bay. Right before. The storm. Because they don't have the infrastructure to handle that much water. And and although that the amount they dumped in was nothing close to what tiny point was. All that stuff adds up. We have to learn to take better care of our water. And again, it breaks my heart. And I'm try always, you know, doing doing fishing radio you wanna You know, Fishing is something that people do because they love it. It's their past time. You know, they work hard all week, and they want to get on the water and enjoy themselves. So I really try hard on my show not to be all doom and gloom because you you don't want it to be a big negative thing. You want everybody to want to listen to the show and be part of it and be fired up to go fishing. But This stuff here is This is a bad one. Um, and I think the word needs to get out. And I think the right people need to get involved. And we need to do some things to change these bad habits that we're in. Because you know we're the cause of this. We caused this red tide. And there's really no reason for Yeah, That's so true. I mean, the water is such a plus. I mean, that's a huge thing here for the Tampa Bay area. We've got the Hillsborough River and then we've got the bay and then we got the Gulf of Mexico. And all of these are so important. I mean, we're able to have the boat parade like we did the other day, and we've we're able to have so many other great things happening here with our Fantastic beaches and everything that we've got to take care of that water. It's It needs to become a priority we need are we need our politicians to to hear. The taxpayers. Um they work for us. We need to let them know that we're not going to tolerate this anymore. If they're not going to take care of our waters, then we're going to make sure we put somebody in office that will take care of the waters because You know, I've got grandkids now. And, um I'd like them to be able to fish Tampa Bay The way I have enjoyed the estuary. Enjoy our beaches. My wife and I love to go down to Anna Maria. Spend the day on the beach and relax. Saint Pete Beach. We were just on vacation there. Uh, last week. We love the beaches here, but If we don't take care of them. We're not going to happen for very long. No doubt about it. And maybe that's the argument for Mike Babcock is that he doesn't have to build this team from the ground up. He's just got to get them. To the next level. Um, but It didn't work out in Toronto. It didn't work out for Claude Julien in Montreal. It didn't work out for John Tortorella in Columbus. So I just my biggest thing. Is Who you gonna get? That's better.
