"Team in the islanders. It's a cautionary tale. However, you do have this season that the islanders are in the midst of and it doesn't feel like they're missing John Taveras. But you have to look at that situation and say, all right? If we feel like this guy is going to leave in free agency. We cannot mess around. We could not be in a position where we get nothing for him. But then again, you have to think about where the devils are next year and how they're playing and if they are a playoff team, and you can't trade away. A league MVP in the midst of a season where you could do some damage. There was a very unique situation with John's various, you know, he grew up his whole NHL careers with one team. And I think that they were led to believe that he was going to seriously consider staying with them and the extra year in the extra eleven million dollars that they could have given him eighty eight million over eight years. But once you go back and you're back to an original sixteen where you grew up wearing their jersey when you were a kid that is a lawyer that's almost impossible to overcome. And I think anybody that young man situation probably would have done the same thing. And I know it's hard for people to swallow that. But that's I just think the athlete himself probably thought, you know, what I I get a chance to plan part of my family get all that happened to me when I got traded to the jets, and there was nothing like it was one of the most exciting days of our life. I probably was the draft all over again. And it's like you get a chance to do a new start. Now John's playing really well for the Maple Leafs. Matter of fact, they lead the lead by a pretty large margin in terms of even strain. Goals scored with.

"Man. Chris king is standing by with our own. Dave Michigan talking about the islanders and the lightning on leading radio. Chris obviously, the big news in the off season was the departure of John Taveras. Islanders have just come roaring out of the gates. How have the guy's been able to make up for his huge absence? Well, it's really Dave Brock Nelson more than anyone else. He's had a terrific start to the season. October is always been his Beth month of the year. Traditionally had a great October and continued into November now. So you look at Brock. He's leading the team with seven goals. He's getting a chance to play in that same spot the John Taveras did. And he's got perfect complements JT. Did he got a great playmaker on his right in Josh Bailey? And a great finish your on his left and Anders Lee whose Andrews coming off a forty goals season a year ago and Josh last year had career highs in goals assists. Points. Do you think it's and I know it's early maybe a little vindication. For those wingers to say, you know, we can play without Taveras. It wasn't just him stirring, the drink. Absolutely. I mean because that's what they heard the entire off season. You know, there was a school of thought that MATT BAHR Zell who won rookie of the year would be the one to move up into that spot. But so far berry trots is an experiment that a little bit early on in the year, but really decided to put map bars L back with the guys he had a ton of success with last year, which is his best friend Anthony Beauvilliers on the left side and Jordan heavily on the right? So for now, it's Brock Nelson going really from a third line Senate to a first and bars L staying more as a second line center. We all thought, you know, MATT BAHR Zell would move up with the Gionta Veras spot. And that would be a big challenge for a twenty one year old to see the other teams top pair on D every night. Other teams checking line every night. Whereas last year no teams had to choose between trying to shut down the Taveras line or the bars L line. It was clear going into the season that Matt Bors L would be our number one center. But it just really hasn't played out that way, or you mentioned berry trots that obviously was the other big story during the offseason. And again understanding that early and he's coming in and trying to put his stamp on the team kinda generally what have been some of the big changes that you've noticed in terms of what he's been able to bring to this islanders team. Yeah. Well, Michigan actually starts, you know, higher than him with Lula Merill. You have to talk about, you know, our new president and general manager, obviously everybody knows what he did in New Jersey for twenty eight years with that was a big change. Yeah. Three Stanley Cups, and he's in the hall of fame for his work. So you know, Lou decides he's bringing berry trots fresh off a Stanley Cup. And actually the entire coaching staff. That was brought in new are all coming off a championship either of the NHL level, the age level or the OH L level. So he brought him nothing but champions to coach the team, but we've seen Barry trots to stamp already on this team David a year ago. I almost gave up the most goals in the National Hockey League going into their game against Montreal this week. They were tied for third fewest goals against. So that's the big difference. I think is that they're much better defensively in their own end. The defense crew hasn't changed at all from year ago. One of the two goaltenders is the same obviously, they've added Robin Leonard net. But it really shows, you know, what a system. Mm can do when a commitment to that system can make a huge difference offensively. And that's been the biggest change for me. So far, Chris great to see you. Appreciate the time. Thanks. Michelle is great talking to you. Chris.

"You're my prime source for NHL talk on the way, home from work. So I gotta bring it to you. Where are you thinking about what is this year? We're putting up Godley numbers getting production from the second third line. Defense is good, right? We got groove. Our for win. Farley gets hurt. If win we're putting up. Good numbers. We also dropped wants to a set. Jones was Columbus team. What are you seeing in Colorado this year? Well, I watch tonight at some point or another. I was watching their game the first hour of their game like something in that neighborhood. And they were just absolutely raking it up on on the road in buffalo. They won six to one. I saw the solder goal. I saw the Wilson goal. And I think one of the McKinnon goals he had two goals on the night. But McKenna insider Berg Wilson everybody literally the whole team scored but McKinnon has goals in four straight. I think they've only played four games. You gotta go on every game. But they kicked the sabers ass. So I actually think I'd bought into the sabers tonight at home because they haven't looked that bad. They were like one going into it. But tonight, they showed me exactly who they are. Again, they have Jack I go and then the rest of the team sucks. So I'm done betting on the sabers. Now permanently for the rest of the year. Every time they play I'll bet against them. All ended up making fat stacks. I always find the teams that are awful. I bet against them every time they play and I ended up making money. There's a sports tip for you. Once you find out who socks bet against them and you'll make money eventually. So I think the ads looked great so far, but I'm not getting ahead of myself or putting them in the Stanley Cup finals or anything. So they look good. They played for a week. Congratulations. But you beat the sabres tonight, which is like playing a girl scout team. Bruins beat the Oilers tonight Ford one I did want to mention though Connor mcdavid goal, mafia. Have you ever seen anything? Oh, he's on the phone. Never might have you ever seen anything like that? Mckinnon goal on char. I'm making that guy looked like he was in cement. It's funny because shark came out before this game earlier in the day there. I guess they asked about them. You know, the kids amazing that he probably scored like eighty points at age sixteen and then it gets completely burned by him in the game. I mean, he looks like he didn't even move like a tree that just was falling next to me. That's how slow he was with this kid is blowing right buying for the goal. I mean, it really was something else is speed. The blue jackets beat the Panthers. Five four in their home opener. That was a while game. It was two nothing jagged and then two then three two Panthers. Then three three jagged speed and five for the Panthers a bad start to their season. I don't understand how everybody's played four games. They played to why is that why why the Panthers play games, the capital's got embarrassed six nothing. The doubles the capitals are the Stanley Cup champs. And they got beat six to nothing. And then some guy said to me are they played last night. And I'm like, so what would you the Stanley Cup champs? Even if you lose you've got to lose at least six to one the fact that they couldn't score a goal tonight. What does that tell you? I mean, you're the Stanley Cup champs. And you've got Ovechkin on your team. This game, obviously, but six nothing is the most humiliating thing. I think I've seen the Rangers beat the sharks in overtime. Go figure just when I start betting on the sharks. The penguins beat the Golden Knights for two hit the penguins kings beat the Canadians in Montreal I risk with the Canadians. That'd be the last risk. I take with them. And then I took the leaves. They beat the wings five three again last night than I have some guy in here. Trying to sell me that John Taveras socks. Yeah. You had four assists tonight. He sucked so bad. I gotta tell you, man. They must be really disappointed with those six goals and four assists nights that he's got like tonight. Austin Matthews had a couple of goals. He sucks too. I mean with all the hockey geniuses. I have around here at this place. I gotta tell you. I gotta keep listening to these guys at tummy, how bad John Taveras says connects for whenever the lightning now there's the upset of the night that is the worst loss in whitening history. Four to one that connects for Christ's sake, the blues beat the flames five. Three predators. Three nothing over the jets and the wild in overtime beat the Blackhawks in Minneapolis. Let there be light..

"You don't just trade to trade people you trade people to rebuild something with significant players in return so i i agree with what he said i turtled one hundred percent agree with what he said but what i'm saying to you is that the way this thing looks and you know when mickey sitting here telling me yesterday that the team was locked in mocked in my ass instead of all the basically you know he's locked jay it's easy it's easy it's easy sees this swing through things and maybe the team without its best players just isn't that good maybe the player stink okay fine but i also know there better be somebody on that bench that's holding people accountable being their friend drew manager a coach does not need to be somebody's friend and i swear to god and david phys dale becomes like porzingis's friend or something i'm gonna throw up well you know in the nba though that there has to be a little bit of that stuff you know it because there's coach killers all over a just happened to him he didn't handle that situation right that's another one that it's different comparison but if you want to tell them you want a guy who's going to change the culture you want a guy who's gonna hold guys accountable consistently that i'm with you on that i just don't know if having that guy in place in twenty eight with this team would have made that much i definitely think it would have made a difference because it's all about attitude and that's why i always go back as easy for what when parcells was basically wanted the jet job and he i know exactly why one of the the the the jet job is because he knew that he was going to run the whole shebang than what he wanted you know craft was not allowing him to do that he allowed bella check ultimately to do that because he realized that you know if you're gonna have a football guy let the football guy run it and let the guy that's all in running because he knows the business and he knows the players and he knows exactly what the look for and that's exactly what parcells got from leon hess and at the end of the day all parcels new and every coach knows that it's so easy to turn things around with a new way of doing things discipline holding people accountable starting with defense and i would say the same thing that's going to happen with the with the new york islanders the new york islanders are going to be okay without john taveras i know that's hard for people to understand but at the end of the day they have a legitimate nhl stanley cup winning coach that is going to preach defense and physicality and that's what's and that is going to be a new way of doing things for the islanders and they're not going to have one superstar running the thing the way he wants to run and not saying that the divorce was like lebron because he wasn't but the fact still remains is that a culture change can have a profound effect on the team and i think the opposite has been for the mets it has been totally the opposite it's made things worse the bad worse but it definitely would wouldn't have made the bad good if they had someone else in there they wouldn't have been good i'm telling you right now if a guy like joe girardi with a winning pedigree a tough guy a guy that you know yeah he grinds people that's why maybe the yankees didn't want them anymore oh my god he was griping us he's worked out well so hard managerial change with the do you realize how frigging towel that's my point the opposite with the mets is they got nothing that's what that's why the mets need a joe girardi type the mets need somebody in there that brings a winning pedigree to to the.

"Okay i can get him on a week but a lot of guys will say that i've heard that come from guys mouth so many times oh i missed it so much even if i could just go back to play one more it would mean so much to me and it does to all these guys and i think when you start to get up to the games played that play like henrik zetterberg is and you start to see the end of the tunnel and you can see the clubhouse and you're well deepened the back nine of your career every game does mean something i'll tell you i was impressed with lundquist the way he played after they made the deal with the all those traits with the rangers he went out and played some of his best games of the year it's easy to be a standup guy when things are going great when you're a standup guy when your team is terrible that's harder because you've got to answer for every day and i was really impressed with one of the questions i always asked about this rangers rebuild do they have the right goaltender in their guessing nation winning games look there's already reports that are russia that cold chuck's coming right and speculation by john taveras how much is this really a rebuild and you've got to have kids like you can't be successful without kids but i don't think we're really going to know until the summer after the draft and free agency what kind of thing the rangers are really looking at i think there's a chance they go for one or two bigger guys and try to fill them with the kids and see if the enthusiasm can carry them over carlson could make a lot of sense to me to for but not for a year.
