"On the ground and six rushing. It isn't about numbers. It's about the vibe and it'll just mean in the sense where like in the locker room a couple years ago near the players like folding like more than once and you know maybe that fulls in have the same talent levels of the town disparity in full stats weren't always incredible during the regular season. But i wanted to be hurts. Performance has to be kind of without you know beyond reasonable doubt that he is the franchise quarterback take that sort of convincing consensus for everyone to realize. He's the focus of the eagles franchise going forward and to convince the eagles themselves that they do not need to make a move for quarterback this upcoming offseason. Whether it's a trade for russell. Wilson aaron rodgers to shawn watson. Hopefully not that or trade up for quarterback and the twenty twenty two. Nfl draft will have at least two first round picks possibly three and at minimum for picks in the first two rounds to go up and get their guy if they aren't happy with hurts. But i wanna see that jalen hurts so so badly this year. I'm jalen hurts. I'm probably the biggest jalen hurts. Fan across the entire the bgn radio network leading nation dot com across eagles media. I'm not really media. But as an analyst crazy podcast personality. No-one's more in on jalen hurts me. I think he's going to do it. I think he's really going to do it. This season commenced everyone that he's the guy going for. He's a caf in right now. Just announced a captain yesterday. Recording tuesday afternoon so monday announces the eagles. One of their captains to offense captains this year along with jason kelsey. And i think it's going to be a huge huge year for hurts and he is going to establish himself. This isn't a prediction podcast. The way the john stolnis did. It's what i wanna see. Most this season but i do truly think it's going to happen and i can't wait this year last year. When hurt started playing for watching this on youtube you could see. I bought a pack of three sports cards back in style right now making a ton of money. I'm not a sports card. And i thought the reason i wanted john hurts. I want him to do well. Because he's the quarterback of the philadelphia eagles. And i love them more than anything in the world. It's game week. It's game week even waiting all off season for this feels like just yesterday we were watching the end of the carson wentz. Our happened in real time and wasn't devante spinsters drafted by the eagles last week and we just have the draft week one coming up down in atlanta couple. Things didn't article yesterday be jan will. Today's protestant protestants on wednesday looking at the history of the eagles. Playing the falcons on opening day for week one. It feels like that happens. Almost every who they play in week one atlanta or washington. You have one of those two guesses. There's probably a chance you're going to be right. This season number five you know. May i hate the cowboys. More than i love. The eagles is that true. I don't know. But i just said it right now so it stands right now week. Qb one under the bright lights of my football going against dak prescott. If he's healthy going to cowboys in the atmosphere there they're gonna have fans back in the state of. I know they had some last year but totally totally full stating this year compared to last year and going down there whether it's a great performance from jalen hurts devante smith scores to touch on the hits the heisman pose on the dow star in the end zone whether barnett sweat wanted to have more than those guys a little bit cause havoc for that banged up at dallas cowboys offensive line. We're going to see we're gonna to be a whole lot of fun. Just go one of those first three weeks. Obviously i want him to win. All of them and going to on one. I think is the goal right here on. I'd be over the moon for that. But if they end up dropping the first two games winning their first divisional game winning it on the road against dallas. the team. most national pundits are predicting the win the division this year. Doing that is a huge effort for this franchise for jalen hurts for everyone. And that's like my fifth goal. We're going in reverse order everyone more and more important for me for.

He's most excited about this year and we will get his thoughts on the twenty twenty one eagles as well so all that coming up here in the next few minutes of i on the enemy. Plus i'm gonna give you four big takeaways from the eagle's second preseason game that they played against the new england patriots this week Pretty ugly contest. And it's boy. I'll tell you what you know. These preseason games are ugly in and of themselves game that they played against the patriots on thursday. It could very well be the worst football game. Any team has ever played in the history of the world. But we'll get into those thoughts here coming up in just a few minutes but first let's dive right into our guest and i've been looking forward to having him on the podcast for quite some time. It's gonna be fun to revisit that and it'll get our juices flowing for the twenty twenty one season. Yeah i mean because we've got a couple of fake games left and then there's a little bit longer of a gap between the third preseason game and when the real game kickoff so that's going to be really awesome and so i think that with the nfl red zone. Everybody that i talked to it is it is literally their favorite thing i mean and so it's become just this huge brand and i gotta i gotta imagine that it. It must be the most fun you've ever had working in your life. Oh yeah one hundred percent. In fact i is on joining you from los angeles right. Hollywood tinseltown all that. And i've got buddies who are in various forms of entertainment not sports broadcasting whatever actors or singers or writers producers and i tell each and every one of them i wish for anyone who is in the entertainment sphere that they would have a vehicle in their career that the audience would just love and devour and have a passion for the way. Nfl red zones audience is with with myself and our staff on nfl red zone because we trust me. We love broadcasting it as much as you all loves watching it. Yeah well. I mean it's it's the best product going right now and so for the nfl season coming up here in two thousand twenty one. It's another unique season. Obviously the covert pandemic is is gonna probably rear its head at some point during the course of the season but so far so good on that front here in the nfl. i know the. Nfl has really been strict about getting teams up vaccinated. So they don't have to cancel games. They don't have to postpone a lot of tuesday games and wednesday games and all that kind of stuff so hopefully that hopefully that will continue but Before we get into the nfl. As a whole. I do wanna get your thoughts on on the birds because i know you used to be with comcast sports net in philadelphia so a lot of eagles fans remember you from sir and so Obviously that was a dream job that you had to that you had to move on from but with the eagles. There's a lot of optimism growing among eagles fans. I keep hearing it from the players in training camp in from folks who are watching the team over the course of the last few weeks and and i'm not quite there yet myself. You know i i. I still see this as a team. That has a lot of work to do with a lot of question. Marks and a lot of unproven talent. Where are you at on the twenty twenty one eagles just in general and as far as where they stack up in the nfc east sure will okay starts and ends with a quarterback so jalen hurts showed flashes and the more we watch the nfl in the last three to four years. The more a jalen hurts. Style of quarterback is is potentially taking over the leak. It is off strip busted. Play out of the pocket. Can you throw on the run. Can you threaten to convert third and eight with your feet as well as your arm in a in a tenth of a second split decision once the dropback passed it was called breaks down hurts has shown a so far in limited sample size that he is capable of those type of things now. Can you also win from the pocket. Of course is the question there and can the offensive line. Keep him keep him. Upright and healthy right the his demise was obviously a good chunk of its on whence. But it's also on the fact that he was the most sacked quarterback in the nfl for multiple weeks last year and even even the season before so hurts. Does he take a second year. Leap like you would expect a young player to and then have they bolstered the playmakers on the outside enough dante smith scott to get healthy. Obviously and jalen raiders got approved. That he's more than just a one handed catch in in a in a joint practice. Sweet catch down. Awesome awesome catch but there are a handful of wide receivers in the nfl. They can make those type of places. Can you make the two handed ones on a regular basis and do something with it africa. So do they do that. And then the soft spots on the defects and they've been able to shore it up. Can they get to the place where they'll they can win. They can win a a twenty one twenty game or or a seventeen sixteen game the way they would they could win thirty five thirty one game now last thing i'll say about them..

"Look sort of the opposite jimmy. Any final thoughts. I asked you this time Now i think i'm good just excited for the open. Practice at lincoln. Financial field on sunday night. So seven o'clock start. I think those are always fun. I like it. I like seeing the the fans there and Those are like the hardcore fans so Those those are the guy like seeing their observations after practice to which is Which is kind of fun but Anyway just looking forward to that. And i'm looking for the first preseason game because it'll be the first i mean who cares that. They missed the preseason last year but I kind like the preseason games. Preseason games are fun to watch in that you could see a lot of different players and from our perspective like these are all the players that we've been watching in in training camp Day in and day out. But it'll be fun to see them. Go up against. We'll get a better idea if like the defense is actually really playing well or if it's just because the eagles office so bad so it'll be interesting to see them against a steeler offense that has already played a preseason game and be does have some legitimate talent. Yeah we'll be exciting to see river. We have one more practice to practice so training camp practice at the link on sunday night and then they offer walked through a monday then. They returned on tuesday off again wednesday before the game on thursday. So that's the little Look ahead to the schedule ahead to meet my final thought is how about those first place phillies They're back in. What's been going on in training camp for them over the first couple of weeks. We're going to talk to zach rosenblatt. Who is a giants beat reporter for nj advanced media. We're going to talk to him about a whole range of issues going on with our buddies from up north. Plus we'll get into some news from around the nfl a quarterback signs a huge contract extension over in the afc and the washington football team dealing with some pretty serious cova issues. But we're gonna start off the podcast talking about stuff going on in the eagles camp right now and of course most of what eagles fans are talking about doesn't really have anything to do with with what's going on in training camp. It has it has to do with the future of the quarterback situation and to shawn watson. What is going on with the houston. Texans starting quarterback at least for now to shawn watson on friday was not at practice for the fourth day in a row and the texans. Clearly they don't know what they don't know what to do with him right now because the the league has an suspended him. They can't really do anything but they don't wanna put them out on the field because they are fielding trade tom. They're feeling trade pitches from from other teams. So there's obviously something going on here. He's obviously being shopped around. And there's all kinds of smoke around the eagles as us of course heard by now you and you've heard it refuted to buy by other sources but you know i. I still think that because there's been a reluctance to name. Jalen hurts as the starting quarterback for this team. Because we know it's not going to be joe flacco that it feels like there is. There is a real chance. That the shawn watson could come to the philadelphia eagles at some point in the next couple of weeks now per mike florio. The texans have made it known that that they're willing to trade shawn watson but the problem is that they still want too much for him. According to florio per a league source the texans still have not softened their trade expectation. Exp- expectations for watson despite the lingering uncertainty regarding his career that those are florio's words there and then jay glazer fox sports during the hall of fame game went on tv and basically said that the texans have stopped returning phone calls from teams. Who are interested in watson. You wonder why that could be i. Think glazer's speculated. That is because the texans are getting low balled for watson. Whatever that might be. We've heard from some folks i think. Nfl networks tom. Pillow scenario it. Pella cerro an ian rappaport said that the asking price for watson is at least three first round draft picks. Espn later confirmed. That report netted that houston is looking for a combination of five. High draft. Picks end starting caliber players. Espn sarah bishop says that. The texans don't feel like they've received a serious offer. Well that's you know for a guy who might miss half a season because of all the sexual assault selection sexual molestation allegations that are against him and The fact that the texans really don't have any leverage you can see why he is still in houston and so. The texans had a quarterback that they really can't play. He wants to leave. He does not want to be in houston The texans want to get rid of him. They owe him ten million dollars this year but then thirty five million dollars in twenty twenty two If he is indicted he will likely land on paid. Leave according to Mike florio so there's all kinds of on field and off field stuff. And i think most eagles fans generally just don't want this guy on the team for for all the off the field reasons they're onfield reasons not not to get him but specifically the asking price and the money. You'd have to pay him but really nobody wants the headache. And this would be a huge headache you'll be you'll be something that would just dominate the headlines. And you just don't want a guy like that on your team. Sometimes you just don't want to root for a guy like that especially as your franchise quarterback but i still. I still don't think it's going to happen. I do not think. The eagles are gonna trade for a shawn watson and i would rather hold onto those draft picks and get a guy without so much baggage. Go after aaron rodgers next year. Go after russell wilson next year. If you wanna veteran quarterback and you think you're relatively close to the super bowl but again. I don't think the eagles contention for being a super bowl. Contender is going to be next year. I don't think twenty two thousand twenty two. The eagles are thinking super bowl. Which makes a trade for aaron rodgers and or russell wilson. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I really feel like this is an opportunity for the eagles to just go go even with even if two two first rounders and a what could be a high second round pick depending on how the colts do without carson wentz for much of the season if that's what ends up being a second rounder two. I should still be able to get you to move up to almost wherever you want to go in the draft next year and get whatever quarterback you want. If you decide you don't want to move forward with with jalen hurts i. I wouldn't pull the trigger right now. I don't see the urgency. I just don't sense the urgency. There was nothing around to shawn. Watson off the field. I would say yes. Go and trade for him. Give up three i give up the two you have next year and maybe give up the one the year after that and you know give up you know you wanna throw a player in there. I don't know who it would be. Maybe you're throw andre dillard in there i don't know how much trade value he has probably not a whole lot. So maybe that's a nonstarter at that point but you get my point you know. Maybe maybe you do that. For a young franchise quarterback. That doesn't have all the off field baggage. And just would be a distraction and a black mark on your franchise so but the fact that he has all that surrounding himself and the fact that you're not ready to contend right. now i just. I don't see the urgency. I'd give jalen hurts the season. Let him play. Let him see see what he looks like again. I think it's unfortunate hurts. Is going to have one season to do this. But i'd rather go that route then then go out and get the shawn watson right now for a king's ransom it sounds like houston's asking price will have to come down at some point in the next week or two if they do want to move now another player that has suddenly hit the is requesting a trade from his team is Pittsburgh steelers wide receiver james washington. He's a fourth year player. He's expected to be in the mix as one of the steelers outside receivers but right now he seems to be on the outside looking in chase klay pool who burst onto the scene as a rookie last year. seems to have one of those spots pretty much locked down and dante johnson is probably him in the pecking order as well and so the former second round pick is looking to get out of pittsburgh he. He played in the hall of fame game. The other night had to targets did not did not make catch. You know. I am ben rothlisberger and and he has not really been able to get on the same page over the years last season. He only had thirty catches for three hundred ninety two yards and five touchdowns but in two thousand nineteen. He started ten games. Played in fifteen and caught. Forty four eighty targets for seven hundred. Thirty five yards and three touchdowns. So i had one pittsburgh. Steeler fan described him as aggressively average to me. And i watched highlights in anytime you're watching highlights of the kid and i've seen him play a couple of games and he he. He's one of those players. He hasn't really had a breakout game. So he's kind flown under the radar but he's a guy who has some size he. He's a field stretcher. He but he can catch the ball over the middle. I like how he's able to break some tackles..

"On twitter at john. Stolnis coming up. Eagles training camp is underway. I'll give you a couple of first impressions and first thoughts as the eagles are back on the field. Getting ready for the twenty twenty one season. some news out of indianapolis and carson wentz that if you are looking for the eagles to get that third first round pick suddenly. You're not feeling quite as good about it as you were just a couple of days ago. some some disappointing and and sad and at the same time frustrating news with the eagles a first round pick from last season jalen rigor as he comes into camp. Get into that kind of stuff. And i've got the most important question every. Nfc east team must answer here in twenty twenty one and we'll also run down. I haven't done this yet. Maybe you've heard on another podcast. But the strength is scheduled for twenty twenty one how the eagles strength of schedule matches up against the rest of their opponents in the nfc east and if we have a little time we'll do some over unders Based on some of the latest profits coming out of bed online and again. I'm not a i'm not a gambler. I'm not a sports betting guy. I'd just like to look these numbers to kind of mentally. See where. I think. Some of these guys are gonna come in this here. So we'll do all that coming up on coming up here on this edition of eye on the enemy and we'll start things off with a couple of notes from training camp and again. I hope you're checking up. Rigor jalen rigor failed a conditioning test upon entering training camp this week now. That sounds pretty distressing. that sounds. that sounds not great. And it's not what you wanna hear concerning a guy who was a disappointment last year as a rookie it. It doesn't sound good at all but there is a there is a personal loss attached to all of this all of his readiness coming into training camp this week. That is kind of is factoring into his his failure of the conditioning test. He has not practiced all week. The team has them out with a low with lower body tightness but according to the enquirer this summer a close friend of his was murdered. And it's obviously had a profound effect on him. It's affected his ability to get ready for the season So this is something that the young man is dealing with and of course team officials and teammates are going to be understanding and sympathetic. To all that No doubt about it as well they should be and hopefully hopefully fans can our react the same way too we. We all want jalen rigor to be an important part of this team here. In twenty twenty one. Frankly if this offense and of jalen hurts is going to be is going to be good this year. They really need jalen reagan to be an important part of the offense and you want to see him come into training camp and get off to a great start and obviously this is. This is the exact opposite of that the fact that he's not in football shape that he's not. He's not ready to to participate in training camp with the rest of his teammates. Training camp is a longtime They're going to be. They're going to get ready for the season for the next month and a half so there's plenty of preseason games for him to to get ready for and there's plenty of time there's plenty of practice for him to get ready for but again. This is also a new coaching staff. This is a new offensive system and clearly. They had jalen rigor in their plans to to do a lot this year. trying to put last year's rookie season behind him in which he finished thirteenth among rookie wide receivers in receiving yards with three ninety. Six and eleventh in receptions. With thirty one i think the idea of moving into the slot was a good one for for for his skill set and his ability to To to get down the field. And i still think that's case but obviously this is. The most important thing is is where jalen raiders head is at right now obviously dealing with with a personal loss like this is tough and if he needs to if he needs to step away and leave the team for a while in order to deal with this kind of stuff. I would imagine that the eagles would be understanding and would allow that to happen and that that might end up being something that happens. I have no idea does just rampant speculation from an outsider. Here talking but hopefully this is something that regular will be able to get past and he'll be able to Find some solace in being with his teammates and getting ready for the twenty twenty one season. And we'll see a sophomore surge from jalen rigor here this season. What probably the second biggest piece in. This may be the big the biggest piece of training camp news concerning the eagles and it has nothing to do with the philadelphia eagles themselves this has to do with carson wentz out in indianapolis because it was revealed on friday that carson wentz is going to be out indefinitely because of a foot injury now. Nobody really knows the severity of it yet. He's getting some rays taken and he's going to have some other some other pictures taken of what's going on inside there in order to see what's going on but it doesn't sound from my garafolo as if we should be panicking just yet. He tweeted that he's still not sensing major alarms. They're just further evaluation so that the colts know what they're dealing with and how to treat it..

I eight opponents We did four by four. And we're going to take care of the next for here on this episode of the podcast will kick off the second half schedule by taking a look at the off seasons of the la chargers. The denver broncos the new orleans saints and the new york giants. So we'll dive into all the key acquisitions made by those teams. The key departures and drafts that each of those four teams have had just as we've done the last couple of weeks here on this episode of i on the enemy as we get you ready for this. Twenty twenty one Season and training camp as they get set to open up in another month or so. So let's dive right into this podcast. Let's not waste any time. Let's just talk about these teams because the eagles have tough. I think there's a tough schedule. As i've been going through this i know they're playing a lot of teams with losing records. But i think a lot of these teams are going to bounce back in twenty twenty one and i think the team that with a losing record last year that probably has the best chance to bounce back and be a real impact team in the. Nfl is the next team. We're gonna talk about. That's the chargers. They went seventy nine last year and finished in third place in the afc west but by every every analysts. Look at this team by by every measure you can consider. I think the chargers have had if not one of the best off seasons. Then perhaps the best off season of any franchise in the nfl. This year key additions. And re signing senator cory lindsey the best center in football titan. Jared cook offensive tackle matt. Feiler cornerback michael davis and quarterback ryan smith key draft additions offensive. Tackle over sean slater. Cornerback asante samuel junior wide receiver. Josh palmer tight end train. kitty edge. Rusher chris rump. Second key departures tight end. Hunter henry linebacker denzel perryman linebacker. Nick vigil safety. Ray sean jenkins gardanne. Fini guard sam tevi and casey hayward cornerback so This was a team that finished up the season. Pretty good last year won their last four games but the chargers. Every year like the falcons. We talked about the falcons. A couple of weeks ago seemed to find ways to lose winnable games these last few years and that's one of the reasons why anthony. Lynn was dismissed as the head coach. Perhaps perhaps no team in the nfl was more in need of a new direction at head coach and so. The chargers dismissed anthony lynn. They went out and got themselves one of the best defensive mind in the game former rams defensive coordinator brandon staley and staley certainly had a huge impact with the rams. The rams defense was tops in the nfl and both points and yards allowed in twenty twenty. So they are getting themselves an absolutely fantastic defensive mind. Of course it's it kind of goes against the grain and today's nfl. Hire a defensive coordinator to be your head coach. Most of these jobs are going to offensive. Guys these are the gurus that we hear so much about but staley's rams have been a dominant defensive team for a number of years now and he's there obviously hoping that he can bring the same kind of dominance to their defense that he brought to the la rams and hey nice for him he probably didn't even have to move. You know it goes from the la ramsey la chargers. He probably gets gets to stay in the same house. So the chargers are led by their second year quarterback just in herbert and justin. Herbert was just phenomenal last year. As a rookie. Put up some insane numbers. Four thousand three hundred thirty six yards thirty one touchdowns ten interceptions and ninety eight point three quarterback rating sixty six point seven percent completion rate. You know this is a guy who i think out of college. A lot of people thought he'd be good a lot of people figured he'd be a guy who would who he had tools. He obviously had all the tools to be a successful big-league quarterback. But you know. I don't think anybody predicted that he would take the nfl by storm the way he did last year but he does. He's got all the tools he's got the size he's got the arm strengthen. The chargers made sure this offseason that they did everything they could to protect this investment to protect us player and they went out and they improve the offensive line in a big way. Perhaps the best move by any team. This offseason was the signing of the best center in football. Former packer corey lansley. I mean this. This guy is absolutely the best in the nfl. Allow just four total pressures last year on four hundred thirty seven plant pass blocking attempts just a crazy number. The lowest pressure total in the league. So you've got cory lansley now a hiking the ball to justin herbert and giving him all the protection and then they also signed matt. Feiler away from the steelers. Usa today noted that over the last three years filer. Blue only thirty one pass blocking assignments in just shy of fifteen hundred attempts and in nine hundred three run blocking snaps he blew eight. And here's the guy who can also play tackle or guard. He gives you position flexibility. So he gives the t. The chargers are a lot of different that they can construct the offensive line here with having filer in there as a guy who can play either tackle or guard. Those guys are so valuable those position flexible guys and then and then in the draft. They filled a big hole at left tackle by taking northwestern. Tackle rashawn slater to be their starting left tackle and no one thought later would be there at thirteen but but there he was and he will and there's some question marks as to whether or not he's he's going to be a tackle in the nfl long-term who think is arms aren't quite long to play tackle so that he's more likely a guard but The chargers believed that the way he played in college. What they see on tape he can be a left tackle and so that's where he's going to start and if he's successful there it would fill a huge hole for l. as offensive line. They're going to try him at left. Tackle to start the season. Those three impact players for the offensive line to protect your investment to protect justin. Herbert and the also got themselves a new right guard. And o'day boucher from the lions. The chargers released trai turner last year and snapped up obuchi. Who as a starter in the second. Half of the lines last year. Only blue thirty three blocks in one thousand eight hundred seventy five snaps. So.

That's the heaviest debate that we've had so far although you really disrespected michael gallup last week and that's fine. Let's let's we'll come back this if we have to two linebackers this is tough. Like this is not fun. I thought about this as a joke. At first like when i like you know ten thousand foot approach the exercise here i thought like oh all troll biaggi and say mica parsons. Tell me that. Wilson from the eagles is the only one. I guess you kind of consider. He's been getting coverage but he hasn't been good as run-defender so i'm not gonna make that argument. Who are you most shocked that we're not considering here is because i feel like the dancers in vander esch like that. He is so obviously not inconsideration. Well i was looking at at jimmy kimmel all. Nfc steam needed a couple weeks ago on a still this idea from him nobile. Give him a shout-out so it's fine. he had. I think jalen smith on a second team. And i was doing like i didn't say this to him but i was thinking no like. What are you doing like dylan. Smith is bad and he has been bad for a while now and he can't cover and i don't know how you could put him like inconsideration for the i team. So is that surprising to me. No like that. We're not having him here. But that jimmy did is like crazy to me. I don't know that jalen is in the top three overall linebackers on his own team. I mean i would. I think if again if the if you're talking contracts and stuff it gets a little bit more complicated but like you're talking just talents. There is not a kelly's fan who is taking jalen smith over either. Michael parsons richard wilcox. Both of the draft picks or. I mean if you're talking like i can only have one of these dudes. I think most people would rather have leighton vander esch although and this says more about late than it does jalen jalen has been remarkably more healthy than leighton vander esch has since two thousand eighteen when lleyton restriction enough. A big reason why. I don't think i even had l. v. e. inconsideration here injury thing i can't i'm not putting him on my team. Yeah for what it's worth. John smith was pf apps. You can cut your cancer risk by eating organic, a new study says
