Not bad, just getting ready for the weekend, and I know we've got Hitman's wife's bodyguard, which is a new movie out this weekend. Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek, among others. Can we talk? Can we just jump right to Jon Stewart's appearance on Stephen Colbert that I'm here's my thing. Let's play the clip Bob first and then we'll talk about our reaction to this because setting it up here. So Jon Stewart was started. And I don't know if Stephen Colbert knew that John was going to go there. I don't know if anyone really knew that John Stewart was going to go there with the Wuhan. Lovely, but here's what happened. Science has in many ways helped ease. Uh, the suffering of this pandemic. Uh, Which was more than likely caused by science. There is a chance that this was created in a lab. There's an investigation. Chance I Oh, my God. Evidence I'd love to hear there's a novel. Respiratory.
Chinese Government Knew Early About Coronavirus Lab Leak
"Did they know, but they knew early. They knew early on that this was a potent, potentially deadly virus. Whether it escaped or was done deliberately. We don't know. But once it was out there, they did nothing to warn us. And it was here way before we thought it was What's more evidence clues. Give me another data point. Showing that they knew in China, the C G code, sick lab workers, SARS and MERS not being as able to infect human beings as coronavirus within your perfect ability to do it. Remember this story I discussed was a couple weeks ago. Wall Street Journal from May 23rd this year Intelligence on six staff at Wuhan Lab fuels debate on Covid 19 origin Folks our intelligence community knew to listen to this. Three Researchers from China's Wuhan Institute of Virology became sick enough in November of 2019 that they sought hospital care. According to a previously undisclosed U. S intelligence report. Chinese government knew Three researchers fell ill at the Wuhan lab. How do you explain that? So for the folks on the left in the media have been attacking John Stewart, the comedian who again there's no friend to the conservative movement at all, but they've been attacking him suggesting he's making up a conspiracy theory that this originated in Wuhan lab. You don't have evidence. No, you don't have evidence. You don't have evidence that this is natural. We have a bevy a body of evidence that this in fact was created in the lab. And created two perfectly infect human beings.

"Think we owe a great debt of gratitude. to science. science has in many ways. Helped ease This suffering of this pandemic Which was more than likely caused by science. Great joke well-constructed. He had thought about that one but his rationale is off because well we'll we'll discuss it after the clip short. Wh what do you mean by that. You mean traps. There's there's a chance that this was created in a lab investigation chance. I the evidence. I'd love to hear novel. Respiratory corona virus overtaking. Wuhan china. what do we do. We could ask the wuhan novel respiratory corona virus lab. The disease is the same name as the lab. That's just that's just a little too don't you think. And then they asked the scientists are like. How did this so wait a minute. You work at the y. n. respiratory corona virus lab. How did this happen. And they're like a pangolin. Kissed a turtle okay. That's not the name of the lab. She's not the name of the lab. He actually changes the name of the lab twice. And and that's really weak and so that you know. When i heard that i'm like why would you come out. Not having the facts straight and use that. Easily debunk abol. Although i it. I'm sorry there's photos. There's there's like a ton of photos of the front door this lab but it doesn't see but it doesn't say says business in virology institute of biology. Yeah yeah so. He takes it all the way to sars which is just not true. I just felt that to be not very john. Stewart like and then this was just to me was the The final two guys. They know how to do what they've worked together a lot. Kobe replaced the dumb shit. Republican basically and stewart the smart guy on the left and they're going to wrap it up back very well be an anthony. Fauci and francis collins at like definitely be investigated. Stop with the logic and people think when you say stop with the logic and people think wow that's gotta be just made up with the logic and people and things they're disease wait a second second. Wait a second. But i could be possible. You could be right. I'm gonna hear that again. He actually says vouch. E and i guess john stewart is also discrediting fao she here. Let me just play that from the beginning that could that could very well be an anthony. Fauci and francis collins at said like you should definitely be investigated stop with the logic and people and things disease. Wait a second. Wait a second but i could be possible. You could be right. It could be possible that they have the lab in wuhan to study the novel corona virus diseases because in we'll hand. There are a lot of novel corona virus diseases because of the bat population there. This sounds to me exactly like the game like they did this on a table. Redesign seem scr. Okay i'm gonna give you a hundred percent on the whole thing. A co bears in on it. He's playing it to the point where he can deliver a straight lines. All of their modern straight lines are not good at that. He's good at that though. That's what he does straight wells. Well for his buddy so he's not going to do it for anyone else. So he could delivers the straight line about bats. The so store can come back with with the comments about the bats in austin Which is gonna take. You got it here. Corona virus diseases. Because in we'll hand there are a lot of novel coronavirus diseases because of the bat population. I understand specialty. And it's the only place to find bats. You won't find bats austin. Texas has thousands of them that fly out of a cave every night every night at dusk is corona virus in austin gerona verse. Only corona virus behalf is in wuhan where they have a lab called. What's called against warhead novel corona virus lab. Believe the case. And how long. Have you worked for senator ron johnson. That may have been an ad lib that that that one at the end the kobe colbert just threw in just to make himself feel better about it but come on countering the narrative with exactly what someone said kobe stewart comes back by the way it's hundreds of thousands and they're under a bridge but okay and the crazy bat lady also did some experimentation at ut austin but never mind that that was gamed out so something up something is a. We've spotted this this backing off thing mua when we when it first began but it's been a little slower that progress. I think we've We've hoped for keeps keeps us occupied. That's good but i'll i'll get. This is good. I am this. Weather's two of us think that that interpretation was spot on it was it was. It's exactly what was going on both sides and just throw the back. I preface my thing. That kobe's an actor. Here he is. He's he is acting even got wu might be right about the ad lib but even then a good actor it may have been in the script gave. He even had the full name right at the end. Oh you mean the wuhan. Sars sars corona virus lab. He had all that can take it was. It was a scam and good in the same token you've got bill maher doing the same softening the blow. He's really soft. I don't have clips. But he softened the blow for whoa whoa culture talking back a lot of Against the squad and just woke me in general and he's getting tepid applause. But you know. I i think he's and he's certainly when you turn your When your audiences all in on the bulls bullshit and you've got to turn back because it's not it's harming them they're not happy about it and you that tepid applause would be expected. Audience does not like to be. Oh they don't like the the the they just as soon be like it's like a mob lynch mob all oil the turn on a dime and you can't to talk them down. It's not easy and you're going to get applause grumbling. And that's what mars getting so now we have to spread this out. Where do you wanna go. Well you would want to go to any of those shows that you watch this morning some entertainment or you can go straight to tmz. And that's where we find. Dr peter hotels your take on what jon stewart said. There have been a lot of people in your field who are upset about this curious how you feel. Here's what we know. We know that there's been the covid. Nineteen is the third major corona virus epidemic pandemic of the twenty first century. We had sars. That arose out of southern china going down province in two thousand two. We had middle eastern respiratory syndrome in the arabian peninsula and two thousand twelve. We know that. There's a confluence of those forces coming out of central and southern china because of the high population density all of the animal reservoir hosts in the wild including batson livestock..

'cause those are like soft designing scary anymore you know. There's some of the episode to get attacked billion slow john. That's the only time ever Found zombies scary was like the days z. "Today our special guests is john stewart. He is a director. a writer. a producer a stuntman. A songwriter guitarist. Do he's done a lot and he's here to talk with us. And how are you today. John you guys doing good. I'm doing great good a really good. Yeah we're here with hollywood's most sought after stunt man i million anymore. I'm old. i mean an adult man so good how how. Well first i. How did you get into being a stuntman. What when. I was a kid like ten years old. I was at all. I wanna do after seeing a john wayne movie. I think it was doing stuff like jumping mini bikes jumping off my grandmother's roof. Just praising stuff and you. I want to do early on. I got a chance to do it. The assad about seventeen double madeline picture in boston. Why that's why grow up. I was doing crazy stuff. My friend a movie theater now. Helping him A hang myself upside down caught myself on fire than jump through the windows of santer. The news came down and covered it. that's dumb ass. At the time it was actually real glass. That went through came down coveted as a producer of washington at night. So tyrone so. You've got my number off. The news called me up today. I- senior Yourself on five. Gonna matt dolan picture here in boston and You won't come down to a burn for the picture and germs arrest dotted did Couple movies in boston then moved to la like eighteen down. What in your mind made you say. I'm gonna go do this stunt. I don't know i just back. Then i was was old was the old style. They is ahead. The recall the orchestra. Chad moves up. Top the calm the boost. The old wounds were so i used to practice jumping off the his the second level booth and i had the clear the authors pit and had some past linden mattresses designed to land you know. So that's how i trained myself. They basically doing high falls in the big staircase stare. Follows there you know. that's i started. That's awesome today. Did you ever watch That movie what was that movie. With andy sandberg. Where he's trying to be as stuntman. Run hot rod You ought to watch it. It's a serenely. it's so funny. It's extremely exaggerated. I think it's more more aimed towards like evil knievel type thing but he doesn't feel you stuff in it. Check that out. It's pretty good. So so what was what was like an average day like when you were doing that type of work in the eighties and nineties. I was pretty busy. I mean sometimes. I was coordinating two or three shows at the same time. Literally leave the house. I remember the house. Once on a monday hunted. Following sunday. I went for movie to movie. Movie chats and sleep in their dressing rooms as up. that'd be a one movie in the morning another movie. You have to do another movie at night. A date for me back then would be doing a car. Jump for one movie. Then you wanna pipe. Ramparts is a cost growth. Flip for another movie. The doing a burn for another movie that night sights change. It was pretty hectic back in the eighties. That's crazy so go ahead. Josh right so when i eat. Imdb a puts out that you're director of the mighty morphin power rangers For the tv series. Is that like stunt director or like full on director calls the phone director. What had happened was also that canadian. I started drinking a lot of second. Unit is because a lot of directors do not direct action back then and they relied on meet right the action scenes in the movies in direct them and i had a friend. Ron dot who produce power outages. I got hurt. And i went out and breaking my first movie action. Usa and came back in came a little bit of a cult following. Turn out good. So he gave me a movie to direct this first union director Called contel and then he came up with a series idea sabban For power outages. He wanted me to come in and Direct you know the series at the beginning. No i didn't. I hired actually jeff. Pruitt was a karate coordinator coming to do all my light stuff do second unit and i do i unit. That's pass so you learn a lot of that type of league action scenes. You have to learn a lot about it so it's really cool. Yeah you too. And i went to film school but i just learned lenses cameras fees in angles and y time. Doing some chase stuff. I have six cameras going and you know we did. We did speedway cold stale. I had thirty race cars with real race car drivers and then i had another twenty thirty stunt people in a couple hundred extras Appraise stuff in that movie. I six cameras going all at one time all the time. And that's one thing to you about these action movies if if shit doesn't go right and you have to replace a car but did that happen a lot like you had to replace scenes the clinton in cars while a allow cameras because what i would do this one company. I would measure out where the camera or the cairo was gonna land. Where i thought was gonna lay. And i pretty good at it and i put the camera a sixteen millimeter. I mean i'm okay. My thirty five million. But i'm okay an crash fox they are and i would measure out and get the of corkscrewing through the area jumping flash right into it and those are the kinds of shots using on on. You don't wanna trailers you know for the movies. So was one show. I think i can't mccown country of tests at me. Because i was reading mike and i'm oh a day you know and i went up now in a produce sound like these money shots from eleven will pay for them you know so now They'll get good shots that's kick ass especially get the green light to go ahead and do that now. I don't i don't want to make you. You feel old and there. You said that your old. I don't wanna make you feel old. But i do want to say binge watch the hell of power rangers. When i was young. I watched the really about his watching damn showing. I started doing it. Universal how to stay alive with parents. And i just want some news. Footage is funny because we're like eleven. Am friday morning and they want us to live appearance up there so as coming out of one dollars block up. It was shut down. We had to get off and go through sidestreets and then we're trying to get that engine universal in l. a. Goes up big. Ill the fifty thousand people there at the front gate and i said to the police. I said riot. So maybe i think the rolling stones must replay near something can give us some tickets and we got out of the car and all these stream fans of because we had the actress where charging us in universal brought the trans through Provice backstays but.

"You'll be going look look. You made a great call here and I'll tell you exactly why it's for you picked up what I was putting down and that's the most important. Yes. Jon Stewart's very powerful look I'm not GonNa try to sit here and and even though I did and argue that physically you know a green lantern camp, maybe do something the pinhead even though I don't think. He could the whole thing about him going to the hell dimension and not knowing it because this is a first time example and putting a world that he's never been before. So you could try to rely on the knowledge of that ring all that you want to James. But if it's something, it's never seen before it's not gonna be able to help you out. You know it's funny. He's the ring has again billions of years of knowledge and experience other dimensions time travel. Necker on the version of hell from DC comics, and that's not going to help John Understand that something's going on suit in a super nice guy with a guy with hooks coming as. While Brent Pope. Well look. What my friends Brazil say I'm disappoint. James. I think the overall for me and I. Look. You saw how painted was for me. I. I I like Green Lantern. I have the Green Lantern Ring that I wear every day I. I just I bought the story and I also, and you know this James you're, you're a fighter, you've been a fight of your whole life sometimes styles make fights and. If these guys fought other second time. I don't think John Stewart gets touched but in a first match. First Time meeting each other I see being over like real quick. You know what? There is some logic to that. It's a horrible logic, but there is some logic to that I will Yeah. No I'M GONNA. Disagree. So I think here's the deal I respect for an pope to such a high degree that again, I'm going to throw this out to all of our fans and listeners on social media to let us know what they really think. I'm shocked by this. October thing look. Let's get some carry out. We'll go in one of our John Ormuz backyards do a social distance sugar fish get some great Sushi. Out Okay and In that case. I I was really I was like man I'm going to disappoint somebody that did that made a really great arguments today and there's just nothing I can do usually there's some kind of fly can find that somebody's where they hung themselves or or the other guy was just better. This was like both really good arguments and I just had to go with my gut end. At the end of the day James There has to be a winner and there has to be a loser and I am the greatest champion of who would win history. I. Am the winner unfortunately, you know what that makes you. Nancy Pelosi. All right now we. Can Go back and change. Know what to make a decision? I we gotTA stand by it..

"Of using the rain that will be perfect battle pinhead and all the ways battlefield through removal and at disposal look it just becomes pretty obvious that Jon Stewart wins. This Battle that is my point number three know your your way too much silliness for me right there. You know he's not going to send pinhead forward in time and created pocket dimension. If he tries to put pinhead inside the ring looked pinhead was on the verge of taking over all of Hell. If he could take over all of Hell I would hate to think if he put if you actually were dumb enough to put pinhead inside your ring, he would take over your ring. and. He would ring one stop working and it was start working against you and it would go very very poorly for Jon Stewart. Now to what you said about hopping dimensions because if even tries any of those things, look pinhead can just dematerialize back to the hell dimension and then come right back again or the teleportation trick said if he's got, John, is talents for lack of a better term. Going on Jon Stewart he's going to keep being able to teleport to wherever John Stewart is through the magic powers of the hell dimension. That's great. Now character that I haven't brought up as much probably could here who has great success against Green Lantern Batman a guy with no power grid he actually stole what he stole the powering off the hand of Hal Jordan at one point and he wants punched Garner in the face and knocked him straight down where was his always on at that point James when a human being who works out a lot was able to punch him to the floor. So let's cool it down with that or just a little bit. Those folks change would absolutely go through. Sorry pardon me. Here's the thing I'm glad you brought Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner here's the thing. Batman has one green lantern that he doesn't talk down that he can't intimidate that he's never laid a finger on because he just doesn't feel a good call on his part to do for many different reasons. By the way I'm a massive Batman Fan. In case you couldn't tell and that's Jon Stewart whenever Batmans about to get into. The lanterns John Stewart steps up to. Get sooner face and says, what are you GonNa do Batman Steps Down? That's the person you're. James is purely political. He steps down because if he was to step to Jon Stewart to give him what for the whole Justice League is fractured as an organization and he believes in the power of the grouping to important. The last thing I want to talk about here before you keep trying to cut me off, is the fact that these characters were taken to the hell dimension, which is the way pinhead is going to win this battle. The cool thing about it you talked about, Jon? Stewart. To leap dimensions and what have you in the ring? What's great about this is the fact that those people don't know they're in a different dimension and John Stewart won't know he's in a different dimension and you know what? If he's given up that bomb thing that's fine and he's been able to let that go what happens when pinhead puts him through. That exact same scenario again but on a bigger scale, twenty, thirty, five, thousand times he will break eventually pinhead will bring him down in Hell..

"He can absolutely hurt and and really start messing pinhead physically because he does have that level of power listen blowing up a planet not a problem that will absolutely hurt and decimate pinhead and again you've gotta remember you're talking about Lucifer before pinhead did have interaction with Lucifer you've got to remember Lucifer actually beat pinhead actually killed him actually hit him physically so hard that he murdered him right literally just killed them in His throne room. Let's talk about the emotional control over his opponents. Opinion likes to use this just won't work with John Stewart and you know it's so funny you brought that example of that planet that he tried to say. But he couldn't, and for years, this recurring storyline was that you know he's wrought with guilt in this kind of you know hammer them sometimes. So this is really cool. He's cool storyline that totally you know takes care of this. So the black lanterns come into the DC universe. Right? There were built by Neck Ron that Satan type of person and they're fighting John Stewart Green lantern at the time and they go to that same dead planet and with the Black Lanterns rings can do is resurrected dead as they're they're still de kind of Zombie but they have all their memories and they use kind of weird guilt say why didn't you save us when because Neck Ron who control them and? The other black lenders knew that was Jon Stewart they thought that was John Schwartz weakness right they let's use guilt over him not be able to save these people. So they all rise up and they start attacking him and how Jordan settling it looks Greens sorry, John. Stewart looks at all of them and says, this is really cool. Just says, you know what? I've been letting guilt take control for way too long those days are over I'm fighting back. So what does he uses his Green Lantern Ring raises his army of his own of green lantern contracts were like marines with different styles of guns makes on army and starts blasting the Black Lantern Corps who's coming after him and eventually he realizes. They don't have a hold of him. He's longer feeling weakness because of them he's like I got it I couldn't save them, but it wasn't I didn't kill them. It's just I couldn't save. My tried my best I'm good with it I'm Lena behind he was fine. They couldn't use that against him Now let's talk about the ways that you know he can actually defeat defeat pinhead and the way I see pitted being defeated by battlefield remove on something relied on before ray you love it when I do this but in this case bathroom, what was going to be deadly occurs as that's something Jon Stewart has done before many many times to being way more powerful than pinheads. Let me give..

"Green lantern and hurt him in other ways. Let's take it one step further and talk about victory conditions and game because one of the wild things that happens in multiple hellraiser movies is a character is in hell. PINHEAD has taking he can open portals he could basically teleport people back into his dimension whenever the heck he wants to. So if he's sharing a room with John Stewart, he can one hundred percent basically closes is, and now they're both in the hell dimension. He has taken him back with him. He does this to mortals all the time. Now, what's really wild about this is once they're in hell the person who's in Hell doesn't typically know. That they are in hell. He likes to play with them as the psychological torture that I talked about before in multiple because they like to just use the same plotlines over and over again hellraiser movies a main character who's kind of a jerk kind of a bad person through the entire movie kind of having a rough time of it as it goes, he gets to the very end of the movie and then a big twist reveal happens he. was in. Hell the entire time and that pinheads just been torturing and now comes the real fun torture because pinhead gets to pull off the basket say it's me your friend pinhead. Now things are terrible. We've been in hell this whole time. So if we were to a world where these two are actually fighting each other, let's say he does the hooks of the chains and he gets a piece of green lantern or a sees aura or Received some sort of defense and what have you pinhead can take both of them into the hell dimension where he has basically total control he can change the battlefield at a whim. So if we feel that they're doing okay on. Earth. In Green Lanterns able to hang in there pinhead flips the script takes him into hell where now he can use this mental ability to torture him psychologically because he knows the fear he knows the sins green lantern..

"That's pretty obvious but let me explain a couple of things. Now let me go back up so Jon Stewart? Every green lantern has a protective or it's like a shield right and that shield is permanently up it never comes down the ring acts as its on on its own has its own mind. There's even some thoughts that it's like century on its own. So what happens whenever they get attacked there always protected the only they get hurt is if it's by something incredibly incredibly powerful. A soundbite from hell, for example, well, the problem is are chains. These aren't these are chains that are thrown magically, but there's nothing to indicate their magical chains. Right? He may be using Magic to control them. They're not magical themselves. So you know as reading a lot about pinhead chains, great video theorizing how to defeat pinhead were defeated chains and the consensus was If you could have chainmail armor on some type of that type of armor on the chains, actually couldn't pierce it. They actually did some tasks was really cool. That's Jon Stewart. Aura protective aura that protects thousands more protects them from like wormholes, black holes, explosion exploding stars pretty sure that will be more than enough to deal with like I don't know sharp hoax coming at him if. The example in the hellraiser movie of somebody wearing plate mail and then pinhead not affecting them. I would agree with your point up until that point, it's pure wild speculation I would love to also see where it has anywhere near the power of dark side. Well, let's do a comparative analysis. When we find those points let's see you know in terms of you know. Who John Fight against you gotta remember sure he's fought against Tony and beaten them. He's fought against magical beings in DC, universe other green lanterns actually has fought against dark side and did well against him as well. So in terms of like the levels sure that angel sounds really powerful opinion took on I. Think what? Jon. Stewart's face is way more powerful than that. But I'll get into more of that later. Let me go ahead and hit you with my point number two. Let's talk about how Jon Stewart uses the power ring. So Evergreen Lantern Has Their Own Style and Hal Jordan he's a jet fighter pilot who likes to come and crash into the scene. You Got Kyle Rayner, who's an artist he loves Manga anime which wise contract sometimes look like gun domes and really cool. Max. And John Stewart is on a completely different level remember John Stewart he's a marine, but he's also an architect which means unlike. The other lands is really cool of the other lands you just from contracts Jon Stewart Ashley Build them from the inside out as reinforced structures, which means his contracts are much stronger, much more durable and hit with a lot more can cousin force even his personal or is built differently than other ores of green lanterns now, his contracts are strong enough to hold superman hold the planet earth together be used as a pulling device when you're to pull the earth to a different location or move it out of its orbit and again these are. Not facing a regular green lantern. This is someone who knows how to build something, and in case someone within it again, he's a decorated marine, which means he goes into a battle with a tactical way to response rushing blindly isn't something he'll do he'll analyze. So figure things out I think he's the most tactical, impossibly most intelligent of all the earth-based green lanterns by the way I'm just GonNa put that out there but here's a couple of other ways that John Stewart uses ring differently, and this is really GonNa help this fix about so number. One, he listens to his ring and this is really important. So sometimes plays that the ring is quite possibly amongst you know the universe is great..

"The only way that you could really defeat pinhead or kill pinhead a battle is to either be Senna by yourself and wield some sort of a weapon against him or to have some sort of religious or blessed items. Neither of those things is anything John Stewart is going to be able to bring to the table. He's not exactly a religious figure he's. A guy who creates constructs in worlds and without him actually knowing that that's a specific thing to use against pinhead. There's no reasonable reason why he would think to have that for this particular battle. So minus those two things you're talking about Jon Stewart's can be thwarted away at him and throwing some less less than high level, creative constructs, Kyle, rayner up in. Here. But he's going to be hit with all kinds of green lantern style power and it's just not GonNa do anything because he's a magical creature. Pinhead is and magic has a certain way of just shrugging it off. The other thing I wanted to mention right here is we talked to the leather face episode about his ability to do slasher poor. Tation, and that is something that pinhead could also do although it's explained a little bit more because once kind of he has a mark on you and he wants to get you no matter where how far you run away no matter where you get to he just appears the second close your eyes basically. So if green lantern tries to fly to the moon. Does. Anything at all get I don't know why I'm obsessed with people going to the moon today I just am must be a full moon out nice place. If John Stewart tries to get away from pinhead, pinheads is going to be right there. So if he tries to drop it entire building on pinhead great the second he turns around pinheads GonNa be right behind him again ready with some of the nasty nasty attacks that I'm going to get to in my point number two. So the big thing to take away from this point is green lantern can't get away from pinhead and green lantern can't hurt pinhead in any reasonable way, and that's my point number one. Interesting. So he is indeed durable. I agree with you there. He said something else..

"It was created by Neal Adams and Dennis O'Neil. Now, Jon Stewart was an architect who was selected by the Guardians of the Universe is Hal. Jordan's backup Guy Gardner with seriously injured in a disaster although Jordan objected after seeing that Stewart had A. Belligerent attitude to authority figures the Guardian stood by this election Jordan complied recruiting equips you over the standard relented uniform although Stewart flatly refused to where the domino mask and powering its well came along with it. So through the years, John Stewart has gone from being a backup green lantern. How Jordan to be one of the most accomplished members of the Green Lantern Corps digitally he's been a longtime member of the Justice League lead of the Galactic. Force, nor is the DARKSTARS. And played a pivotal role in defeating evil black lanterns that tried to purge all life within the universe and here's interesting fact about Jon Stewart did you know that the members of the Justice League like and respond to him better than they do Batman it's true as I mentioned earlier John Stewart assumed leadership of the Justice League, which leads some conflict with Batman Batmans US occupying that role. You know solely whenever he'd size do it. So Jon Gruden Salvia better at developing. Battle plans as much more familiar with a theater of war remember he's a US Marine as well. Additionally, his leadership skills have have them avoid dictating orders and commands in a cold distant fashion like Batman does as a result the league members typically react better to John when he's a leader of the Justice League, and now you have the facts on both opponents Brent. Do you have any questions before we get started not questions per se but I do want to mess things. Just for the future 'cause, I'm going to forget this. Later, if we have John Stewart, he's an architect I. Think later on, you might have him also battle another architect. One of my favorites art van delay from Seinfeld I, think that'd be a great battle. Oh. Personal you know Ray We we have had several discussions and you know ever knows that you know there's a little friction between us. I don't want there to be friction I respect your abilities you said, how come I? James has been on my fabulous show breakfast. And Robert. Clarke. Chan is probably going to be on my show pretty soon and you haven't even been scheduled at all well. It's coming around the holidays I want to be fair about this. Go on look. I think we today this battle thing is a fair battle for you and we'll take all this I won't. I won't put any parameters on whether what will make it happen or not..
Disinformation is Solvable
"We have this ideal of free speech, which is that there's a marketplace of ideas out there that more speeches always better because the good ideas will win out in the end. It's a kind of fundamentally optimistic idea. It comes originally from the political philosopher, John Stewart Mills and his book on Liberty in the nineteenth century, and then it Kinda comes into Supreme Court land in the twentieth century but it often turns out not to be true there various eras in history where propaganda and false ideas have actually won the day in politics you can think about the Nazis you can think about times of Soviet, union communism other nine, thousand, nine, hundred examples of. Fascism and more recent governments in places like Brazil and India, where disinformation has really one out and so I think that we are flirting with that possibility in a scary way in the United States right now the fact is marketplace of ideas was always a pretty shaky concept and so free speech is really important to our democracy but we need I think to reconceptualise how we think about it and how we protect it in a way that really protects the speech that supports democracy instead of threatening it too. So we get our terms clear sale little about how disinformation with a D. differs from misinformation with an m yeah I mean these are sort of. Terms that are only I think the definitions are becoming clearer kind of as we speak but misinformation usually refers to fax that turn out to be wrong and disinformation refers to wrong facts that are being deliberately pedaled for political end. So it's the more sinister version. Disinformation intentional deception often fueled by. Actors of different kinds is sort of crowding out the good information, economics called Gresham's law where you know the bad money the money that's fake gold kind of is circulating everywhere in the real money disappears from the marketplace in a way that something like that happening with information right with is just all of this swirling nonsense depending on where you get your information from and you can't tell what's the good information or if there's any good information in that context way. So one way to think about this is that it used to be hard. To speak, we had gatekeepers, we had these traditional media companies that had a real hold and sort of control over speech. Now, it's really easy to speak, but it's very hard to be heard, and some of what we see in disinformation campaigns is a deliberate effort to drown out true speech or to smear the reputations of people especially online so that they'll effectively be silenced they'll leave the space they won't keep trying to talk, and so it's the use of speech to suppress speech, and that is very challenging for our American First Amendment to deal with. Having you had a really good example in your your piece, which was a me my I hadn't come across that the Democrats were threatening to secede from the country. The election. Just tell that story in brief because it was such a tidy example of sort of you know in the famous like mark. Twain like a lie that God halfway around the world before the truth guidance boots on him and it's just a piece of nonsense spread like wildfire, right? Yeah. So over the summer, a group of academics and former. Administration officials, former campaign staffers, pollsters they got together to game out the twenty twenty election and they played out various scenarios in which one or the other candidate won. It was close there was litigation. There wasn't there basically testing the system of American democracy and Rosa Brooks who was one of the CO organizers of this project wrote an essay in the Washington Post in which you mentioned that in one of the several hypothetical Scenarios Biden won the popular vote Belossi the Electoral College and fictional team Biden talked about trying to ask California and the Pacific northwest threatened to secede as a way of pressuring Republicans to add more succeeds to the Senate there's just a sentence about this in Rosa Brooks's essay Out of that sentence comes an article by Michael Anton- a former trump official and a conservative publication. Arguing that a coup is coming and from that article comes and appearance by another trump official Tucker Carlson show talking about this fictional threat of a democratic coup, very popular right-wing podcast named Dan Bongino. He shows up making videos about this that are getting millions and millions of views on social media president trump tweets in praise of publication called Revolver News, a right-wing website, which is also spreading this false story and what you see here, all the parts of the right wing media ecosystem coming together to really give a big platform to this made up idea that the Democrats are planning a coup.
‘Green Lantern’ series headed to HBO Max
"How? Come. All right. So look I'm not GonNa, hold his movie against the character I just saying that I had to Kinda bad outside experiences without ever getting to the actual. Himself so. Maybe. Hopefully, this will all change when Hbo Max Pulls Over Green on Green Lantern Corps. which is coming to HBO. Max`ed some point I. Don't know when. But Christian news somebody sent a shed you did not look amusement. I you big Green Lantern Fan. I you know he's fine. I like the comics a lot. That's the weird thing like green lantern is one of my favorites, but it also depends on which green lanterns yours like the mythology is. So convoluted at this point that I think it's really hard to make an emotional entry point like if you're not into green lantern at this point in your life, you're probably not going to be into. But having said that I find interesting about this is HBO Max obviously sparing no expense they green lit that Gotham show a couple of weeks ago about the Gotham. PD. And now they're you know jumping into the HBO mce lantern of it all which is decidedly not grounded. Right? Like got them PD law and order in the Batman Universe. Shit. But but green lantern play that's space and you know what I mean like there's a lot of different things going on with that. So they're going to have to throw some real money at it. They Green Lit Marc Guggenheim who Here's an interesting caveat. Guggenheim is the CO creator of era but also one of the original writers on the two thousand eleven green lantern. So you talked about getting a fucking second chance. This guy's going to get a second chance that shouldn't inspire much confidence yet. Like I've been saying for weeks where we talk about these comic book properties that are being turned into television I, think this is the better version of these stories. Especially because they're not going to be telling stories about John Stewart or Hal Jordan like. Some people say Shit. Gum Out I don't WanNa hear that really yes. Some people have already been asking who's going to be how Jordan? WHO's GONNA be John Stewart everybody's got that casting ready and whatnot. So yeah, it looks like they're not going to be in there at all people appealing a fuck bet as all I know that's all I wanted. College some Guy Gardner fans out there I'm sure some some. What's his name Alan Scott Alan Scott fans out there. But I think the reason they're doing this by the way because my biggest question when they first announced this was like but what about the Green Lantern Corps film that they were supposed to be doing right the DC you I mean everything's in up. In the air but they were still planning on doing something like that, and I think they're trying to do a separation of church and state here by doing how Jordan Jon Stewart stories over there in the feature films, and then being able to focus on some of the expanded rosters from the Actual Lander Court. Yeah.

It was more they did have. I will focus on him. Come Fill Lamar. Is the goat when it comes the voice acting and also. Yeah Yeah it felt like Justice League that that cartoon was everything for John Stewart and we want to in the comics never really got okay. Here's a question for you. Did you ever read Green Lantern Mosaic. Yes of course Jon Stewart in that. Feel like they They gave him an album although of personalities for me I don't feel like it was here one hundred percent Jon Stewart but I did find a lot of it relatable but it's not my in writing. Okay this goodbye. Do feel like they wasn't one hundred percent and ending was kind of weird the NFL. Melania those books where we at that time two wall again too I think they were kinda rushing that linked to because you know paradox. Yeah exactly which I actually agree. Lander ever is that is it really is. I don't know I really I really the whole now's a really great storyline power for me. It was a logical conclusion. WHO's into like? That aren't the he had gone on. So the Mongo them cyborg Superman exactly such a mess like no no no this. This makes sense in the world. We're living in right now in the comics makes perfect sense. It won't plus you know they're the Bazeley doing old man how he no he had the Reed Richards sideburns just like Yak. You'll you'll man bring the storming old. You know I I will. Let's say the best thing that Carl was in. was that a that white later a series out. I'll stand by that. It's good stuff like you know. Not Everybody has to be agree later. We don't we tell the green lantern story we don't have to necessarily focus on green lantern. I Like I like the national book. It was a nice change change of pace. You know if they were with face king so honestly the honest with yourself. That's pretty much that was I know for this art that we just got. It was like a solid B plus Fermi of this arc. Yeah let's see much how much l. but it's fine ruth but again they were they were setting up on. Do you know they're sending up get again that got a hand that torch But no I mean you're you're talking like how rayner like I liked the most cows sear like original series. You know even though those boring and bland I think is just a jerk Eric but not as big a jerk house just like us even think he's incompetent take a little bit different. I want to see people succeed in be competent at their job when people incontinent weather sticks. your tastes the Hell Aladdin. No it's it's not. Even that Guy Gardner like is incompetent. I think he revels in his incompetence. Yeah that's what that's what I mean fictional characters real people. That's what gets me. Just when people were dirges proud of how stupid they are. It's one in Florida you know. I know you're in the capital right. I'm so I'm sorry I I. Yeah Yeah I mean. It's one thing if you're not smart enough. Maybe can't help that but when you're proud of it I'm like come on. They get a ring again. But I'm so cute wasn't nice guy but it. Yeah then he like went into that coma or whatever ever and he was like you know brain damaged and then crisis was coming so the like half the guarding the guardians were like what is it the half of them the other half were disagreeing how to handle the crisis so half of them off and gave Guy Gardner Ring. It's like his was not kind to those people and after crisis they basically gave everyone ring. They did that green lantern after issue two hundred eighty greener corners. Everyone was there how John Guy it was fun on for a while. But I'll.
The 'On Point' Iowa Caucus: Where Do Voters Stand?
"This is on point Magneto Birdie. We're doing something a little bit different this hour. Were experimenting with an on Point Mini Caucus. Because the Iowa caucuses or about three weeks away now and so we're kind of we've created this metaphorical room in our minds. Eye Radio version of a Iowa precinct. Here and seeing what Iowa voters think as they look towards basically casting their first votes In this presidential election season we started out the hour hearing from supporters of Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders before the break. We I heard from two neighbors in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Who won who was all in for Mayor Pete Buddha Judge and another and Solomon who is still going to stand the corner for Cory Booker and wait to see who might convince her to move somewhere else and now? Let's talk about people tussling over Vice President Joe Biden. Here's the moment yesterday from the Democratic presidential debate in Des Moines. Where former vice president Biden really noted his broad support? He said that he has nationally so here he is look. I've been the object. She's affection now more than anybody else. I taken all the hits. He can deliver. And I'm getting better better in the polls my going up and by the way I have overwhelming support from the African American community overwhelming more than everybody else in this operation Vice President Joe the last night and when he said I've been the object of his affection now more than anybody else on the stage. The vice president was referring to President. Donald Trump. Let's go to Jane Who's calling from Fairfield Iowa Jane. You're on the air what who do you think you're going to be caucusing for thank you very much for your show My my husband and I have had The same issues as I think it was very league. Who wasn't sure who she was going to vote for In the caucuses who she was gonNA side with And Our experience was that there were a lot of good ideas out there that you know when we went to see each candidate we thought yeah. That's a good idea. Or that's a good idea. And that's a good idea and then about two weeks ago we went into See Joe Biden in Grinnell and we realized by you know listening to him being with him. Yeah that we were for sure going to call 'cause for him and The reasons I mean I know I have to be sync but One thing is that he can take the reins of the government immediately He doesn't he's completely capable. Oh and he's he's He's very cogent. His answers were extremely informative and comprehensive comprehensive. He's very competent and other reason is that he he wasn't ranking about anything he was. We felt much better or from being with him because we feel that the ideas presented by most of the candidates will find their way to policy in the united the states. But this is a man who is kind is only mentioned his generous of heart and he's very competent. So we I feel like he has the best chance of unifying that country anything else important. It's unify the country's right. Well Jane thank you so much for your call. Let's go to Robert. WHO's calling from Grinnell Iowa Robert? You're on the air. Hello yes we're we are definitely definitely caucusing for Bernie the last time around we caucus for burning. We knew eight at vowed. Second Amendment voter never voted re- democrat in his his life he caucus for Bernie. It was about healthcare Bernie is willing to make changes. People voted for trump. Because they wanted a change they. I didn't want things as they were. Which is what Hillary is not going to change anything? They wanted changes so they voted for trump. Because it was it it was a vote for either no change or vote for change and they voted for trump. That's why we've caucusing for Bernie Bernie is willing to change things. So that means that you definitely wouldn't caucus for senator. Sorry doing that. Vice President Joe Biden not definitely not Biden. Okay okay. We'll Robert. Thank you so much for your call now. Okay we've heard from various folks who have their mindsets on their on their candidates but it turns out that about right now in Iowa. Iowa seems as if undecided voters undecided. Iowans might be forming the biggest block of Iowa caucus goers. Let's talk to go back into our own point caucus caucus room and talk to to currently undecided Iowans. The Real Wenzel joins us from Waterloo Iowa. She's Laura's director of marketing for Ymca of black of county and is currently decided perhaps leaning towards Andrew Yang Laurel. Welcome to you. Hello it's great to have you and also also from Cedar Rapids Iowa. Tom Fuller joins us. Tom is a retired maintenance supervisor. For the city of Cedar rapids. Tom Is currently undecided. As well did did have his heart on senator or his mindset on Senator Kamala Harris before she dropped out of the race so Tom Welcome to you. Okay so Laura let me ask you first here here. Whoa what's keeping you undecided right now? What have you not found in any of the candidates that you feel like you can throw your full support behind a unifying presence? I think is what I don't see in any of the candidates especially last night on the debate stage age. I was really disappointed that there is nobody that was wanting to come by Ya with the rest of the candidates and be like. Let's do this together because is inevitably. That is what is GonNa Happen. Ray Inevitably we're GONNA have one candidate and it's going to be Democrat versus Republican. But I don't feel like anybody is on the same page on that stage and it's frustrating. Because I want a unified spirit within the party which is why I go to caucus because I go to caucus for the policies of the Party as well as the policies of the individual. Okay so tom you actually truly still undecided or you kinda trying to be leaning one way or the other well I'm still undecided. I am I to me. It seems like we have a a large field of very qualified qualified people and so That makes the decision harder because they're all good so what I'm considering going to is Someone that can immediately restore our credibility With the world We think we're the laughing stock now. And I think we need to regain our The Mantle of leadership and respect and get our credibility back back and a friend of mine who was a cory booker supporter. Very adamant he just the next day went to Joe Biden very strongly and so I've been looking at Ah Biden That would pretty much. I hope restore credibility with the world pretty much outta the gate and it seems to me that when you have this confusing Mass of people that having somebody with the roots being with Obama and all of his is years in the Senate That sort of a direct line with all these other candidates kind of warming around rounded doesn't let me if I may just let me just tip toeing here again Because Lorenzo did I hear you Kinda side it was very strong side regarding regarding Joe. Ab Thinking about Joe Biden. But you're it sounds like anybody but joe I mean I think that it's a fallacy to assume that his credibility outside of the United States is going to provide any sense of security when he's an office I think that unfortunately impeachment aside the The investigation that trump was going going for it has really broken thy confidence in Joe Biden. And that's something that we haven't really heard at least I haven't heard much about Out You can be darn that he's GonNa late into that on the debate stage if Biden becomes the nominee. And and. I'm concerned I'm concerned. It's going to be another Hillary Clinton where you know you supporter. You'll like her and then all of a sudden this thing comes out and it's like Oh okay so. Let's listen coin to unify unify the party. So let me ask both of you got a couple minutes left with the two of you and Tom. I'll start with you. Is there anything that you heard from your fellow Iowans this hour. That might convinced you one way or the other not yet the to women's that go to the same church or re really really Enlightening and I'm going to re listen to this and Listen carefully to what they had to say. Cedar Rapids Nothing you know. No no we pick for many yet. it's still not three weeks certainly very interesting points. They made I still think maybe I'm I'm leaning towards Biden Haydn The reason that trump went after him I feel like trump thinks that he's the strongest candidate and and that's why he attacked him. I'm hurry everybody thinks he's the strongest candidate. I mean you can see it on the debate stage last night. They wanted to give Elizabeth Warren the last word and then all of a sudden Biden was able to rebuttal before the commercial break. I mean everybody expects Joe Biden to win this nomination Shannon I I think that's the disappointing thing is that We we have all of our hopes and dreams and this guy that is just. She's tired he looks tired. He looks you know like like he has so much that he wants to give by. He physically is just not going to be able to do it. And I I understand. Stay on that So that's why I'm just like you know you are. You are a great idea and if you could just throw your support against another our candidate I feel like that would be best in the end but you know that's not GonNa Happen for alcock Laurel. Did you hear anything this hour. That might have helped clarify in the direction. You're going to go in a couple of weeks. You know I did I. Did you know I've been. I've been fighting with my interest in Elizabeth Warren. Because I remember when I first saw her on the daily show with John Stewart and she reminded minded me of my history professor. Because that's what she wants and I have been fighting with that instinct to feel you know cast down in by her in a sense like she knows everything but at the same time I do feel like she has the best candidate on that stage and that her policies are really about the people they impact. They will impact me and my family with my son who needs long-term long term care Because he's disabled I just I'm ready for a woman. I'm ready for that feminine touch so I really if you like between the debate last night and what I heard today Elizabeth Warren seems like the best win and if I might interject I thought thought we'd be passed having I've having to think about either having a man or woman and that we would just be at the place where or we would pick. The best person is really. We've never we have that. We're not that far down the road yet. We shouldn't gender shouldn't matter it should just be the best person and it's I'm I'm pretty disappointed that we haven't gone on that far yet. Well Tom Fuller from Cedar Rapids Iowa. Tom Thank you so much for joining us in our little mini any caucus here really appreciate supporter and definitely go back. And listen on radio DOT ORG. That's where you're gonNA find it okay. Let us know what you think about. What an libby had to say and and Laura Wenzel from Waterloo Iowa? Thank you so much for joining us in our little mini caucus room here seeing you. It was a great opportunity and I hope that everybody everybody that's the thing goes out and caucus on February third. Yeah same here definitely and everybody should always participate in the electoral process as much as they possibly awesome. Cancel Laura thank you again okay. So that that was worthy more fascinating hours that I've had a chance to listen to so let me turn back to our on point news analyst Jack Beatty the Marvelous Jack Beatty. Who's been listening in from Hanover? New Hampshire Jack. We've got about two and a half minutes left here. What did you hear well? Well I heard voters who were just not only interested but intensely interested and and and and Laurel we actually. We heard an informed. Cy I mean even her. Cy was informative. We knew what she meant. And and it you know the one of the knocks on the caucus focus is undemocratic he to the no secret ballot. You've got to stand at a at a at a place for polling placer church basement for hours you've got to do it in public but on the other hand that encourages people to talk in public and look how these people talked to each each other. Not Past each other met. The arguments met the objections. Saw The merit In the other person's point of view it seems to me it modeled old Iowa's citizenship at its best. I I would agree right. I mean hearing hearing and in Libby and Lorella Lorella and Tom and and Barney and Mike all engage with each other was really inspirational. But as you said the actual caucus itself I mean I read someone described it a sort of like. It's almost a student council student president election because it can be so wild but to your original. Appoint though Jack was made at the beginning of the hour we've got about thirty seconds left here. Is there anything that you heard in these voters. That changes your your concern that you know. The Iowans wins. Don't really pick winners. Well their concern to pick a winner and that may matter as much as anything I mean. I didn't hear here purity. I didn't hear someone saying well. My commitment is to this candidates ideas above everything. Everyone seemed to hedge. I want onto winner. Maybe they'll pick one right. That definitely came through loud and clear with with all of our Iowa state but the reasons why they think their candidates might be a winner. We're quite different from one another which was absolutely fascinating so Jack Beatty Point News analyst with us from Hanover. New Hampshire the New Hampshire primary hot on the heels of the Iowa Caucus. Jack ackward diving all in now. Thank you so much for joining us today.
The Frame 5th Anniversary Special
"We launched the frame. We were doing something for the the very first time I had been a print reporter my entire life so we ask our guests for stories when they first succeeded or failed old. We have a thirty second request though in two weeks. Everybody who comes on is saying the first thing that something happened. I M Gena Davis and the first time fine I got cast in a movie was in tootsie. Few the first job did I failed and actually got fired on American gangster. I'm John Stewart the first time. I've bobbed onstage. funnily enough was the first time I was on stage. For some reason I was absolutely not nervous at all. The first scene was with Dustin Hoffman in my underwear but what I learned from that was Is Not all about me and you have to learn how to advocate sometimes as a filmmaker The Bitter End New York City. One o'clock in the morning following three doors cover bands. I had a good five minutes prepared about two minutes into the audience realized I might suck at this. The funniest thing was I didn't know you're only supposed to come on the days that you're working and nobody bothered to to tell me for six weeks. I showed up at six and went home when everybody else did. I'd get a chair and put it right next to Sydney Pollack considerable bad day avenue. I still feel that page on the is I walked into the night I thought to myself you know. There are a lot of law schools if I could I could go to them. And our first guest in two thousand fourteen was Christopher Nolan He. He was about to release his movie. Interstellar a lot of people are saying that this is your most personal film. How do you respond to that? You take a compliment. You think they might be right. I basic they don't know me so I I do you know yourself. I don't know Myself Derby when either you've been a lot of real world events that have driven our coverage over the years but the one that coincided with our launch was a Sony Hack today today the. US government pointed the finger of blame directly at North Korea with a devastating cyber attack against Sony. Pictures taken down the movie. The interview. That poked fun on at the North Korean dictator whole. They caused a Lotta damage. The cyber attack of Sony pictures which allegedly was conducted by North Korea came in response to a movie. It was called the interview. It Starts Seth Rogan and James Franco. It was a crazy story. It evolved every day and in the middle of it Dan Sterling in who was the screenwriter of the interview was with us in studio. Hi thanks for having me. It's very rare that a screenwriter is like with us to talk about breaking news news so I guess my breaking news questions. What the Hell's going on today? Well I just know what's going on in my email inbox which is an increasing flood of people asking me if if I'm okay both emotionally physically and financially was your answer. What do you tell you know? I was at a party on Saturday night where the host was introducing me to everybody the at the Party as this is the guy that brought down Sony exit was funny. Well the first four or five hundred times. The joke was made. It was funny except Except actually it's a way it's actually not funny to me I'm It's been a surreal experience. I'm still very much in the middle of the one thing that I know that I'm not happy about is actually The real suffering that is going on at Sony. Not Not just by the person who green lit my films so bravely but also by all the other people affected by the hack. I'm quite concerned about them there. There's so much about this story. We'll get to the film in it in a second. But what about about the reaction to the film itself has been the most surprising to you. Well look About a year ago today I was I was on a sound stage age and I was at the monitor watching Seth Rogan who was completely naked except for a sock around his penis and he had a bunch of Salami Alami tucked between his buttocks that a German shepherd was eating out of because the scene was he was being Sniffed by you know a bomb sniffing dog and I was laughing my head off sitting next to his mother who seemed to be used to these sorts of things and she was knitting a scarf and at the time Nothing like any. This could have occurred to me because the movie is just a in our minds was supposed to be an outrageous of course somewhat provocative but totally hilarious comedy which I think that it is but the the the reaction by the North Korean government was surprising to me And all of the things that have ensued have been. Ah I was quite naive going into
Dave Chappelle accepts Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, says comedy saved his life
"Going on so DEC native at Dave Chapelle receive the Mark Twain prize for American humor last night at the Kennedy center Lorne Michaels was there John Stewart Tiffany had as John legend Bradley Cooper Morgan Freeman they've all were there to preach at pay tribute to Dave during the ceremony which we can all watch in January on January seventh on
Senate, John Stewart And Jon Stewart discussed on Red Eye Radio
"The vote was ninety seven to two the Senate doing the final legislative sign off on a measure extending through twenty ninety two the fund that pays health claims of first responders who got sick after working the side of the September eleventh attacks funny man and first responder advocate John Stewart was on hand the Senate passing legislation to permanently fun to care for first responders and survivors into many funerals too many auspices these families deserve better comedian Jon Stewart has been fighting for them for years chaining lawmakers for their inaction ABC's merry Bruce the measure now goes to president trump was expected
Jon Stewart on Rand Paul delaying 9/11 bill: 'It's absolutely outrageous'
"So this interview with fox news to Jon Stewart did it Jon Stewart ranted about rand Paul's decision to he's blocking this bill that would extend the September eleventh victims compensation fund and John Stewart called that an abomination pardon me if I'm not impressed in any way by rand Paul's fiscal responsibility virtue signalling what rand Paul did was outrageous he's a guy that put us in the hundreds of billions of dollars in debt and now he's going to tell us that a billion dollars a year over ten years is just to watch for us to handle you know there's some things that they have no trouble putting on the credit card but somehow when it comes to the nine eleven first responder community man we gotta go through this you know we asked him bombing ation now this bill is going to get past rand Paul here's just trying to make a point try to add an amendment to this bill and he's trying to make a point about the budget so this with this bill I think the amendment's gonna get defeated and voted down and this bill's going to move forward but I don't know how rand Paul can really put himself in a position to where you know John store it looks more reasonable and patriotic than you do can you make your point somewhere else right your whole money out of somewhere else and wasn't it sucks when you have money taken out of a program but if you're the national parks if your NASA listen these people need to be taken care of and if you're the Republicans you cannot run on a platform of where the Americans look how unamerican these people on the left our look at the anti semitic things these people on the left say they hate America you can't say that and then screw over the people who saved America on September eleventh the rand Paul's point is that he was objecting because any any program any program that would last decades should be offset by cutting spending somewhere else that's that's less valuable so he's trying to get that amendment added in there and it doesn't look like that a man it's going to happen and it's this is been a overwhelming bite isn't thing this is going to pass through but now they have to deal with these amendments and if your rand Paul your battles a little bit better than that I understand you need a high profile bill to make a case that the spending is out of control I get it but this is not the one you want to do it you cannot do this right now when your party is saying we're all about America this party over there is not and then you're **** over the people who helped save America the first responders on September eleventh got to pick your battles a little bit better than that but you're absolutely right we're already hearing that a bipartisan agreement is out all but a done deal to keep funding this for a lot more
Jon Stewart fires back at Mitch McConnell over 9/11 victims fund
"Convicted John Stewart has a message for Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, after the Kentucky Republican said he didn't know why the former daily show host was quote, all been out of shape over the September eleven victim. Compensation fund Stewart brought up the issue on Monday nights. The late show with Stephen Colbert, CBS, you love the nine eleven community. When? In nature of your political purposes. But when they're in urgent need, you slow walk, you use it as a political Paul Stewart lectured. Members of congress at a half empty House Judiciary committee last week. The committee later gave unanimous approval to provide money for the fund beyond twenty twenty steward is now asking McConnell to meet with first responders who are sick and dying because of toxic dust. They inhaled in the days and weeks after the terrorist
Jon Stewart chokes up, slams lawmakers at hearing on 9/11 first responders fund
"Wanna talk about Jon Stewart did. When he was speaking to that congressional committee about funding for nine eleven first responders, look, I know that we're here in New York. We are just blocks away from what was ground zero where all the first responders were all responding on nine eleven and we're there for months after working on the pile as they call it and, you know, at a lot of people, the most important people in New York City lost their lives that day with the falling of the towers and everything else involved with nine eleven. But for the months and years, to come people with diseases that they are still are, and so a lot of Jon Stewart's issue. And I totally agree is, he's afraid that congress who needs to be getting money to these people to help them survive. They're accusing us of complaining about a New York City problem. This happened in New York. And so it should be a New York. No, it's these people responding to a national tragedy that happened the day. So I don't know. If you've had a chance, it's been a couple of days if you haven't had chance to see John Stewart speaking to congress. Wow. Talk about a great American. I mean what he had to say in the passion behind. It was so beyond what New Yorkers need. What nine eleven victims need. It's what we all need to pay attention to the things that have happened in this country that are important. And so, John, I think the last time we saw him. He was on our show for Saint Patrick's Day morning. He was on your show. Di he I don't know if he's still smokes back, then he was smoking every five seconds, remember. Yup. Anyway, if we had more people talking to our legislators like Jon Stewart, did, I think we'd be in a better place, anyway. So a shadow to New Yorker in Tribeca Jon Stewart, but, but he's an American. He did a great job
Quantum Computing 101: Qubits and Entanglement
"Learn about the basics quantum computers with some help from Chris Bernhardt, author of the new book quantum computing for everyone. Let's satisfy some curiosity today. We're going to help you understand quantum computing in the first half of a two part series. We're gonna call quantum Wednesdays. Why not I love alliteration, I know quantum computing, probably some super complicated. But I promise it's really not. In fact, you can get a pretty good understanding of quantum computers. Just by understanding too key concepts cubits and entanglement to help you understand those. We spoke with Chris Bernhardt. He's a professor of mathematics at Fairfield university and the author of the new book quantum computing for everyone. So buckle up because it's time to demystify cubits and entanglements will the basic unit in quantum computing is cubic. And the let's go back to the basic unit in computing, that's a bid that's either a zero or a one an equally represented by his something that could be in one of two states like a switch this on or off or a coin heads up headstone or is acute is something. Like measuring the spin of an electron when you measure the spin of a night chrome, it either will be spin up or spin down. So when you measure, it is just like getting a bit you get one bit of information out of it before you measure, an electron spin can be in the super position of both up and down. And so that's what we think of is being accused in quantum computing, your manipulating these cubits in ways, you can't just manipulate a bit. And then when you take the measurement the final measurement you get a bit of information out. Okay. So how can you do more with cubits than you can with? Pits by well that that's a really good question. Because when you measure a cube, it know it jumps to either being zero or one and so betray cubits into superposition. And or you do have some probabilities can jump zero sum probability's gonna jump to one. So I mean, initially people were I think little bit skeptical that you could actually do anything useful with Cuba's. Professor Bernhard told us that that skepticism disappeared in the nineteen ninety s. That's when Peter shore showed that you could use a quantum computer to break standard cryptography. Meaning that all our commercials cyber security could be at risk of being broken. Not so great. Fortunately, the technology isn't quite advanced enough to do that just yet and people are designing new ways of encrypting data that can withstand attacks from quantum computers. So don't worry about all your encrypted data getting hacked just yet. Okay. So a Cuban right? That's a bit. That's insuperable position. Of say both up and down until you measure, it got it. Now, let's talk about entanglement, which is the second concept. You need to understand entanglement is the way you can create a relationship between two bits. So that if you measure one than, you know, the state of the other no matter where it is. Here's more on entanglement. So when you take a measurement of of acuity, and we jumps to something. What you go to entangled cubis when you take the measurement of one of them is entangled partner jumps as well. And you know, what state it's in. Say one really interesting application of this is teleportation. This is actually being done by a team of Chinese scientists who actually teleported accu- bit from earth to a satellite in lower orbit. It's a really clever idea. And what you do is. The trouble is with a cubic if you'll just handed a cube, it you can't tell what state it's in if say measurement and sees you make a measurement jumps to either zero or one, but the idea with teleportation is you want say that you've been given this Cubans. And you don't know what state it's in. And you want to send it to me, and you can do this through telephone station. So the way it's done is that if we are sharing a pair of entangled particles, you have one I have the other one, and then you can then entangle your entangled particle entangled cubit with this cubit, you're trying to send to me and then make a measurement on your two cubits and immediately Mike you've it jumps to one of four states. Because when you miss your two cubits, you're gonna get one of four numbers out. You're either gonna get zero zero zero one one zero a one one if you get zero zero Mike cubit is exactly. It's unknown state of it will be exactly the unknown. Cuban you were trying to send to me in the other three cases. There's a slight alteration that needs to be done. But is clear what to do it? Once you tell me what your two measurements were. And so once you give me those two measurements icon sought you to my cube. It it get back into the unknown state. So my question is about measurements. How do you measure a cubit in the first place like what what does that activity? Look like, you're not taking a ruler in place going against it and saying all an inch long or anything. So where does that measurement take place? And how does the other Cubano that the first it's being measured? How does the Cuban up in the satellite know that the cubit down in China's being measured. Well, one way of doing. This is Cuba with teleportation is commute on with photons. A now being measured with Poors ation. So photo will be either horizontally, polarized vertically polarized. They give you that gives you zero or one but the other question. How does the entangled cubit know what to do? But it's a really deep question. It just knows. And they're correlated. This is what nine Stein really disliked about quantum mechanics. And he could spooky action at a distance an the idea is as soon as you make your measurement entangled particle or tangled cubit jumps immediately changes state immediately. A not at the speed of light Orly is medium. And so I'm Stein, it really felt to be some sort of Deepa theory that could explain what was going on. I understand wasn't right about everything. And that includes quantum entanglements in the nineteen sixties physicists named John. Stewart bell designing experiment to test. The theory of quantum entanglement. It's called Bell's inequality experiment or a bell test. And you can read more about that experiment on curiosity dot com with links in today's show notes in Tengelmann is tricky, but hopefully this primer on cubits and entanglement. Helpful. You can dig in deeper with the book quantum computing for everyone by Chris
Gay Comedians Weigh in on Nick Cannon Calling Out Amy Schumer and Sarah Silverman
"Mean, no comedian is safe. Those women also weren't asked to host the Oscar exact Glaring glaring team. team. They were asked that people would have dug through their social media one of the themes of this year than the metoo movement. It's been how quick are to tear the people down we look at their past. We judge them. We don't let them learn from their steaks, and we don't forgive them. If if I knew anything about the gay community and everyone at this table has close friends that are gay there about the most forgiving people in this world. And so I think we've got to get over this being so quick to judge people finding failure on every single person's part and just moving on and better being each other. And I just say take the side of these girls where second from what I know of their work. They are pro gate comedians. They are not people that Kevin Hart thing was very nasty. I thought what is the dog's head and hit him on the head that I didn't like that at all upset me. But these girls, they don't call them girls girls, went meant, no kidding kidding. These girls are comedians, and they are they love the gay community gay community loves them their cons of the gay community. But they still so these hunt is that is that. About what we were saying in the meeting, and I wish they had given us more time to talk about this because this is actually one of the nucleus where you, and I have a lot of synergy free speech is I think one of the tenants of being an American I think it's extremely important that doesn't mean that you can throw out slurs at people and not have ramifications in your work in one way or the other. But I don't wanna live in a culture in a society where I think comedians and pundits in particular. Push boundaries for reason. I don't agree with anything Bill Maher's. Hardly ever. I watch his show almost every week is pushing boundaries. And I'm always going to be interested in people who are going to say that things that people other people are scared to say, and that doesn't mean it's okay to have any kind of violence or hate speech or anything under that terminology. But according to the federalist which all candidates my husband runs. There's now the people who couldn't will host the Oscars now include Tiffany haddish, Donald Glover, Sarah Silverman. John Stewart Tina Fey, Dave Chapelle and Stephen Colbert, according to things that they've said in the pathway, everybody's now the Kevin Hart rule. I just don't know who's. Gonna be hosting inside the four year old. Get it or job juggler or something like that. For office. No one wants to be as public as they used to be. This is a real problem. I think this should be a wakeup call for everybody. Everybody. We'll be right back. Necked of view exclusive, Michael Bloomberg talks about giving the White House a wakeup call that could save the world. And if he has his eye on the Oval Office in twenty twenty. Honest, unflappable oneness what could Luke Bryan Tim tebow, Kellyanne Conway and Raza offline all be talking about find out on journeys of faith, a podcast where we learn what faith means to some of the most

"You know, you're not committed to the facts anymore you committed to protecting your own reputations. And that's why you're losing in the era of Trump is Trump is going to double down, folks. He's right. John Stewart shockingly is correct. I only say that not to reiterate a point. I can't. And you know, I don't do that. I'm bringing up because I want to add to it. I've run for office. Couple times. You know, I've been involved in this conservative space for I've sat in a lot of green rooms, folks, I'm telling you, I have never in my life as a secret service agent flying on the press plane repeatedly overseas flying with the press. I have never sadly, I say this. I'm not talking about all of them. There are a lot of good people. I have never in my life seen a group of bigger egomaniac than media, folks. Never the way they talk about themselves the way, they talk about other people the way they talk amongst themselves about themselves. It is. I'm not listen. I get it. I know I'm a conservative a lot of liberals get this off saying, oh, he's just gotta media. But yep. Exactly joe. I have never seen a bigger group of self congratulatory idiots in my life. Not all of them. There are a lot of good people. I remember a couple of guys who really nice there. But a lot of these people are self congratulatory looney tunes who I'm telling you you would not trust. What your kids are your car?
