"No question, but that's not a new discussion. I remember when he came out of Wyoming, and I remember the comparisons then, and I saw that in him then so not surprised at the comparison is not surprised by his skill set and the things that he's capable of doing and the things in the style of game that he plays. Mike Tomlin. Josh Allen as the Steelers and Bills meet in the opener on Sunday. How do you feel about Mike Tomlin? Bulldog? I have old ton of respect for Mike Tomlin. I like Mike Tomlin. I suppose if he were my coach, like, you know, the coaching the team coaching the team in the city where I worked, Um yeah, it probably would be, um, you know, Be a little more nit picky about him, but I mean, he's been there a long time. They never are bad. Um, you know, there's probably stuff the fourth down, so you know all the stuff that you don't really study or or sit with when it's not your team. Um, but I I've always I've always admired. I've always admired him. I think he's I think he's I like how he sounds usually, and his team's performance sort of speaks for itself. I think he's been excellent. Yeah, that might be the exact right answer on Tomlin. I was I was hanging on every word there. Uh, like if I were on in Pittsburgh, I would be maybe needed nit picky. And I think You know that has its place. Sure, like the details are big, and I think that's exactly right. I think Tomlin is The results do speak for themselves and no losing seasons ever right, like, Not even so. He's handed Roethlisberger right like that. That's the the asterisk on that Sean McDermott. Might be a better coach than Mike Tomlin. But He doesn't have a Hall of Fame bound quarterback waiting for him when he gets there. And and Tomlin does, and he's two years or so into his job when or Roethlisberger is like three years in the league. Whatever it is when Tomlin takes over, so that's that's pretty nice luxury. The details part. I think Tomlin is probably Top five or maybe even better. Forgetting his team ready. That's not just emotion, but that's like preparation. A lot of that is maybe defensively but In terms of like game decisions. He's the worst. I mean, he's just the worst he he should have. He should have someone else do it right. Like he he really should. He should have someone else do that part of his job, But that will never happen. And it almost never happens anywhere. It will never happen here because look at his record. Well, one that's making decisions is different than having people advise you. I think we learned last year. I don't I don't know that I have the text saved anywhere. But McDermott named two guys that he leans on during games to like, help him. I don't know if it's exactly like red light yellow light green light, like Philadelphia talked about having when Doug Peterson and Frank Reich were there and they won the Super Bowl. But McDermott has conceded that he's got I assume these are analytics. And these are analysts data analysts that are helping him make decisions based on you know the data. Um and, um, so I guess I want to be surprised if almost any team doesn't at least have those people on staff at this point, How much of a conduit they are to the head coach during the games. Is, you know, something will never know. It's up to the coach to let you know, like, and I always found it. Um, I was. I was pleased that Philadelphia was his open with that information as they are. Or were and same with McDermott, although I don't know that he's ever said I'm doing whatever they tell me every time, you know, uh, well, that's right. And that's not that's. The Eagles was also that way, because that's what yellow was right. Right. Yellow was, it's up to you, coach right? And that's I. You know, I wonder how hard to sell. That's probably in that article has probably been reportedly how hard to sell. This was to Peterson. But it worked. He couldn't last. I mean, it's quarterbacks which quarterback was so bad? Yeah, like that eventually. It blew up kind of on all of them, but Yeah. I mean, Tomlin is he's a He's a star right? Like he's been there for so long. He's No, He's got a rank pretty high when it comes to winds. Now I don't have that open. I do have what I think is a fun Steelers list open and that is receiving Uh, catches actually career catches for the Steelers. This is a fun list. I'll bet you know who's first. Antonio Brown. Second, okay? Joe. Do you know who leads the Steelers all time and catches Heath Miller? Third Come on. Wow. That was a joke. Whoa! Third. That's amazing, isn't it? Yes. I mean, that is amazing. He is amazing. I mean, he was there for ever right? But still, he was never great, right? Yeah. I mean, did he ever catch 80 passes in a year? Probably. I guess if he's there six second leading receiver, right? Or what would you say It was 3rd 3rd 3rd? Yeah, um Boy who would be on top there because all the other guys like the famous guys, the Hall of Fame guys, right are in an era where you just weren't putting up huge. You know, 100 catch season was did not something that really existed for Lynn Swan or John Stallworth. So they wouldn't be at the top of this list. Is it? Hines Ward? Yes. Okay. Yeah, that was that was there. That's good. Hines Ward, Antonio Brown, Uh, Heath Miller. Wait a minute. No, I changed. That is right. Change the column. I was sorting by Hines Ward, Antonio Brown, Heath Miller, John Stallworth, Lewis Lips. Slaps nice Louis Lips makes the top for high if it catches for the Steelers. Then Lynn Swan than L B nickel. Okay, Who I don't know about that was in the fifties, like the Steelers were this awful franchise until Knoll and that those early seventies drafts. Then they became that dynasty that they were. They've almost really never quit. I mean, What is that 50 years They have almost always been good. Uh, Tom Levian Bell is eighth than Juju is ninth and then Franco Harris. That is the top 10 Tomlin, by the way, 22nd all time and winds with 1 45 to above Marv. He has more wins than marvelously. What's the number seventh? 22nd 22nd. Okay. 22nd all time and wins. Yeah, he's four behind cower. So that's all with Pittsburgh. So he's almost the writing a Steeler coach of all time. Whoa! Hold on a truck. No, no. Yeah, about that. Yeah. What's he won 93. That's the Tomlin is maybe two years away from that two good years away from that and say, three years away from that. None of those guys ever coached with any other team, right? I just sort of casually yesterday. It's funny that we we, like, ended up talking about Mike Tomlin here yesterday on the show. At some point, I and we were talking about them and him..

Sean McDermott Josh Allen Lynn Swan Mike Tomlin John Stallworth Franco Harris Heath Miller Frank Reich Hines Ward Lewis Lips Doug Peterson Louis Lips Antonio Brown yesterday Joe McDermott Sunday Tom Levian Bell two years 50 years

"That The only thing I can think of Is Again, the way things ended in Washington left the very sour taste. In voters mouth, That's all I can think of. Because you look at his resume side by side with dig for meals. And I take Mike Shanahan. You talk about the Shanahan coaching tree? His son, Sean McVeigh. Zach Taylor. Like you look at the hottest coaches in football right now. And almost all of them are from the Shanahan coaching training. That's mix coaching tree. I heard it mentioned the other night. Mike Shanahan style right without always gives the smaller linemen a little bit more mobile. Like that running style. Came from Mike Shanahan and Alex Gibbs. I don't. I don't think that was There's more of a case to be made Cliff Branch I am ready. Greater sir. I think Randy Graf star deserves to be in Will continue to make that case. I think he's waited long enough. I think he needs to go in The apples to apples. Comparison is ver meal, Shanahan and to me, it's Shannon. So the Bronco's certainly got snubbed big time once. And I think you might be able make the argument that both guys Were snubbed today. So you thought progress was being made Not so fast. Maybe not. Oh, good on Erin. Sending me? Yeah, I I thought that Cliff branch was deserving. Putting up the stats for branch as opposed to Drew Pearson, who just got in John Stallworth. And Lenin Swan any as superior numbers Good. Cliff Branch. You got to be happy, then Cliff branches waited a long time. And now he's finally getting in. But I'm just telling you and Randi Grass are in. Are they limited? Is it just one guy that they can put up? I'm not entirely sure. I think it might be. But I'd certainly take Shanahan over Vermeule and you could look Maybe Cliff Branch is a more deserving wide receiver than Randy Graf star is a linebacker, but they're both deserving. And we have this conversation every year with Randy Grannis are and nothing ever changes. He deserves to be in good on Cliff Branch. He deserves it. I'm not so sure about dig for meal. White. S R and Shanahan deserved to get in. Go in, and they're not it. 522987 to take your thoughts on the maverick sports APP line. Talk about a sports book. "So 20, who gets more home runs out of 20 total pitches between the two teams. Tell me anyone's going to leave her. Turn that off. Nobody. In fact, if I saw two random teams and you know me, I don't watch baseball unless it's the Cubs are the socks If I saw that it was, you know, Tampa Bay playing the Diamondbacks and they were going into to the whole day. I would be like, Let's get on that immediately. What channels that on? I like that. I like that as an idea. It's better than just going through the 18 the 19th inning. I don't need that. And by the way, Miller probably would have better numbers on this than I would but the whole thing with the runner at second base, it's not like that runners coming in every day. Those guys get stranded. Seriously, don't see a ton. I haven't looked at what the the rate the strand rate is for runners in second inning, but no, they mean they certainly do like, and they do end the game quicker because usually you'll see one team. You know, get that run across and the other team fails, so they does wrap the game's up much quicker than a agree. All right, Danny. All right, boys. I need you to put your thinking caps on. I'm gonna invite Miller in to participate here. So former Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce. He's getting ready to go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month. Yesterday, he did an interview talking about that, and he made Just off the top. That's a no shot off the top. I'm thinking of two pair off the top of my head. That would be John Stallworth and Lynn Swann. That would be, uh John Taylor and Jerry Rice. I think when ricin Owens were together, that was even better than Rice and Taylor, Bryce and Taylor won the Super Bowl. Think rice. Owens was a better cambo. Those are two Hall of Famers. Yeah, Another one. Jimmy got to the Cowboys, The Jimmy Johnson cowboys, right and Irvine and whoever I wouldn't put Harper Alvin Harper. What about Moss and Chris Carter? That's a mistress partner. In the interview, the interviewers said. I think Randy Moss and Cris Carter and he shot back. Did they win a Super Bowl? Here we go account that rings again. So so we're supposed to put aside Mark duper and Mark Clayton, right? I'm just telling you what he said Dolphins there goes in Super Bowl. As you know. Barometer. How about bulletin coffin Branch? How good were they good? How about Hester and Johnny Knox? All right, you get out of there. Get your weekend of this, Conway. Danny, you get out of here. I love Johnny Docks. Uh, I did, too. Before we got into a car, Alan Robinson and Darnell Mooney take that. So, what do you think? Bruce in Holt? What about Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne? That one ran through my head. Okay. Another great Bruce and we, Bruce and halts are really good. I could I wouldn't put them above, you know. Taylor. I'm sorry, Taylor, Ricin Owens, like, throw the Super Bowl out whatever rice, unknowns, Rice and Taylor either or and then? Yeah. What was the other one I mentioned and, um Austin Carter. Very excellent. What about if you can you count Travis Kelsey as a receiver, kill I was there. I was thinking the same thing to be if you open it if you open it up. Here's a crazy stat, though perhaps down, Captain here, no real quick. Bruce and Holt each got 1000 yards receiving seasons in five of their seven years together. That's crazy. Pretty good. We can't have 1000 yard receiver here. NBA Finals game for preview Next this This.

Alan Robinson Mark Clayton Marvin Harrison Cris Carter Jerry Rice Bryce Reggie Wayne Chris Carter John Taylor Johnny Knox Ricin Owens Lynn Swann ricin Owens Mark duper John Stallworth Rice Taylor Darnell Mooney Travis Kelsey Randy Moss

"Care who you are where you are. That's unbelievable you know i. Actually i appreciate you know the thing that was probably the most stood out the most with what i did what i was doing back in one year. Almost had one hundred receptions. I almost a thousand and a thousand my junior year Which was really my best. You probably should come out my junior back then. You didn't do that. I started years. Yeah and it was It's hard to you know. Play college football for four years and every year. Get a little better. You know you're going to have a down year you know you're not gonna keep going up up up and i just come on come off a year where one hundred balls at thousand yards rushing and i don't actually i think that no i first time in idaho state in history. That has actually been done to be honest with you. Then i go to my senior year. My mom died that year. Tragically and train wreck. Well i appreciate w just a train wreck which is like everything everything that can go wrong and one year went wrong and expert. I didn't have my best year but playing for years was an advantage to maybe saying play only one or two and you know the colleges so i got lucky with the very blessed and fortunate i got the chance and i went to the right team and so coming out of college. Idaho states not a known university. No you nowadays you watch you watch these guys come out of college. We can watch the combine. You can watch that nowadays in know about these players. So how did the pittsburgh steelers. Fan merril hodge in idaho. Well went to the combine. You know i went to come. I'm glad they don't have footage from back then because there would be. I feel say. I had the one i had probably the worst combine in the history of the combine. You know that put. He's back in the day could verify that. I had gotten the flu about three days before. I leave and combine. I lose like ten pounds. I spent more time getting notes from my doctors for medication. I was on so the something wasn't false positive for steroids or something and because there was a particular i'm antibiotic taken there could be misconstrued for that in testing so i had to have all this documentation i spend more time getting documentation do drugs. I was on steroids down just sick before i went to combine and then i showed up late and i want to combine and then what happens after combine international years is. They'll come back and re scout you you know into a pro day and I had been projected to go to the raiders in the fifth round and green bay packer. So the team. That came back to Scout me out or working. Green bay packers. The washington redskins the ringer's denver broncos and the pittsburgh steelers all those teams. Every one of them worked me out again. Every one of them did drills army and the steelers When we back up a little bit they give you the day. They're going to come in so they say listen. Next tuesday will be in their h in the at one. O'clock probably gonna feel by two o'clock so students at the time i get down. I'm gonna worry at and he goes down the office watching tape. I go down to the room. He's watching tape. And i asked him to get ready. I don't know time you want. We'll go on the field and he's like oh he goes. Hey will you play basketball. I'm like well. Yeah i i was actually really pretty house. Actually really good basketball. And he goes. He wasn't good because 'cause mysterious have a basketball team in the off season. They tourtelot like you make money now. She's some good money to play a lot of games back really. Yeah so i said okay. I go jimmy go. No no no no no no. We don't need that he goes. I'm like i got all. I need right here. So he's watching k. Fresh and so he said he tissue takes her coming back. you know. we talked for longer. But i'm district san really nice guy right but you don't want me workout so i lied. I remember going. Okay of all the things i go. I can tell you the one thing that ain't drafted me. Is the pittsburgh steelers. Because they say they talk more about basketball football. I was like they're not going to draft me. And then whole behold that you draft not so drops you and we were happy to have you. I mean they draft you. Tenth round two hundred sixty. I pick from eighty seven to ninety three. I mean for people that don't know the pittsburgh steeler tradition. It is one of sacred cry. I mean it's it's unbelievable. The the history of the pittsburgh steelers and for you to actually be a part of that. Yeah you know. People are on the sidelines and all that. But you're actually part of that history. Tell us a little bit about that. Because like i said it's a it's a working man city and it carried over to those fans Really showed i got. I went to the right city. I went to the right. Culture mindset I remember going back to combine and the draft. I remember in the evaluation process. I was third best full back in the country I was ranked in. Third vessel and cal is like beauty. It's all in the the whole show. But i'm just in the rankings third-best member of the first one was Was high smith. We oughta miami and it read his bil- read something. Like i mean. Big horse athlete. Powerful cats yeah. Yeah roger vick tickets in thoroughbred of a back big strong. I guess to me self player. I like and i'm like i'm sitting there man. I that's it. That's all you write about the thinking about it. I started thinking about it and it's actually should give everybody opening. Which is why. I do a lot of motivation speaking now because quite honestly i look at it wrong i actually when i i spent time thinking about like well you know i am i mean but then we all have that we have. Everybody has that possibility to make the most out of what they have. And that's a responsibility that we all have inside. I looked at it wrong. Initially it's going to be a wall. Actually i keep going back and reading. It would be more and more elaborate on on my skills any other skill. But when i was a kid my favorite team was the pittsburgh steelers so i mean i. I wasn't a huge fan. When ought get yeah. I was A childhood dream. So i get drafted and this is like you can't even you can't script this but they walk me into the locker room. They shut me down my locker and the first guy twenty priests food equipment manager came over and goes who's locking this is and i was like No my. He's that's used to be frankel harrison as i and who who comes walking in sits down the locker next week donnie. Shell about ten minutes later. Here comes joe green. I swear to you. I'll say she has a canon hand. I don't realize coke until he's just hands or just still matthew she. Joe greene Can't go on like this is so. Surreal like kid greatest commercial initiative commercial any any standard. You know a coconut joe. Green standards and feet from me. Mike webster was my roommate around here. Yeah john stallworth. Was still there so when i got in the huddle my very first time looking at mike webster john stalwarts and i I mean obviously chuckle. Yeah head coach. And and john cold was strength and conditioning coach. Who's a legendary left tackle from the steelers. I ju- your quarterback was.

"A little while and now he's turned himself into a little Podcast monster he's got. He's got a fun following of people who? Yeah, it's fun, dude. All right, somehow involved with wrestling. Yeah, I'm not sure. But I hear here's Pat McAfee responding to Terry Bradshaw. Carrie Bradshaw, Okay, can write off like when he opened his mouth here about Aaron Rodgers. I've never seen somebody look like a bigger hypocrite. If an idiot. There's no reason for Terry Bradshaw to bury Aaron Rodgers like this. Okay, Terry Bradshaw has been through some beefs and things, especially with the Steelers organism. Should. I do believe he's come out and said some things that have been blatantly wrong about people because of personal feelings. So like I don't think Terry Bradshaw's a human That should feel okay talking about this situation. But I do have respect for the career that Terry Bradshaw has had. So I'm kind of torn on this thing did not expect this from Terry Bradshaw. I think it just feels like there's people now attacking Aaron and everybody's thinking Well, Erin wanted this out. I don't think Erin wanted this out. I think this is legitimately not Erin's like, Hey, I want the public to know about this, but I do believe there is some real passionate happening behind the scenes and it's obviously Be undocumented, but I just I don't like the thought of other people who don't know the entire situation. If they were in that situation, I assumed they would be pissed as well. Mm. Well, he's got every right. The world will be pissed as well. From what what the Packers have been doing in the last two drafts. I I'm sad with Aaron Rodgers on them because they have not drafted offensive players directing because obviously they not talk to their starting quarterback leader. The team, the the 1st 1st, Ballot Hall of Famer. Okay, That is a good point. And if they are dealing, you know, not just Aaron Rodgers. But every team that has committed to Ah franchise quarterback should be, you know, should be checking in at least making them believe that they're part of the decision making process. I would better bet that that Jerry and Stephen talk to back and say, What do you think about this? What do your thoughts about that? That zoo great environment to work in, right right on. Yeah, you'll get more You know, buying from your players. If you do that, I'll say I don't drafting defensive players. You know, I don't know that. That's a problem for you. Aaron Rodgers should not look at it as a problem. If I'm Dak Prescott and I look what the Cowboys did in this draft where they drafted a million defensive guys, I'd be like good. Thank you because it's hard to score 47 points every week. That's what it takes everyone what it takes to win around here. And so, yeah, those guys just because Aaron Rodgers isn't throwing the ball to the cornerback that they draft in the first round. What seems like every year That doesn't mean that they're not improving the team and creating, you know better opportunities for him to chase rings, which again this whole thing, Aaron Rodgers legacy a little ding to me that he's only got one ring. I think he's the most skilled player ever to play the position. Bagwell's coming for you. They're the fact that he's only got one ring. That's problem. I'm a bit older. And you guys don't remember the greatness of Dan Marino and real never want to ring and he was right. Great. Was great. Everyone never wondering where wondering were so obsessed with the rings. I know No. One Terry Bradshaw. Four rings average. Hey, was better than average. Wow. He was better than average. Better than average, my friend. He got the ball. The John Stallworth and Lynn Swan and Franco and Rocky and all those guys broke cowboy fans heart many, many, many times, and I never saw Smith. Jackie Terry Bradshaw. Jackie. No. Jackie dropped at the end of just firing shots unnecessarily a Terry Bradshaw was going full. Pat Mac? Yeah, Don't get Pat McAfee on you. Oh, and round rock. It's our guy Buck nuts, Ronnie on Caleb E. J. What's up, Buck nuts? What's up, man? How you just You just do it, man. Right? Okay, Vito. Beat Oh, man, I heard of that. Where you're from in Minnesota that work in McDonald's like considered skilled labor. Is that true or what? Wow. Okay. Let's White Castle working at White Castle is considered skilled labor buck nuts. No. I just want to talk about this guy. Pat McAfee man. What? You got this guy? This guy was caught swimming in the downtown and Indianapolis in a pool at six. In the morning. You know, the guy was the guy's A complete drunk from Notre Dame. You know, big partner. Want a joke? Yeah, they're like, Hey, man, You've been drinking there like he's like. Well, what do you say? Cool. Alright. Sometimes sometimes you gotta drink. Can I have a different six o'clock in the morning? What's the big deal? Thank you. Alcohol. Ohio State. Guys, don't get down like that, Ronnie. No, man. We're cool, man. We're about to win the national title this year, Huh? Watch board. What sports? You going back to the Alamo Bowl this year, guys. Wow. That's dark, man. You are not high on Justin Fields going into the draft, but not see, man. They wasted a pig. Oh, no, it over. Do you see what they were saying? Over the weekend? Or, like, Well, maybe he'll he'll he'll learn behind. Oh, hey, Eddie, you know, for five games I'm like and do what? I learned how to get killed in the pocket and he can't play that game. Oh, fuck Nut. Aren't you lose your steak card for saying stuff like that. No man did. We're so much better this year than we were last year. When what do you see our team nature, ma'am. Mm. You know, forget about your stark after dark. You know, dude, we got we're trying to find that we're trying to find a position for the monster position with the macho positioning. Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa. Here's ron bar jim. Rooney is with us here on sports. Byline he has written a wonderful book about his father. Dan rooney a different way to win. Dan rooney's story from the super bowl to the rooney rule. I mean ask you a little bit about the seventies when the team had those four championships. Tell me a little bit about your dad's involved in how he looked upon the success of the pittsburgh steelers during that period of time. Certainly ron That that was a special time in in steelers history and and really you know created the foundation of of what we are and and again it was about. You know if you if you look at You know we talked a little bit about negotiating the other sort of technical business skill that that i think my father would be known for his hiring. You know we've had three coaches and fifty years You know he was involved in all three of the commissioners election process. You know he was involved in labor and then obviously the rooney rule so so bringing people together and finding the right people for his organization is is probably his biggest skill and he put together this fantastic management team. That was led by coach. No and you know coach nor worked under don shula for for a couple years worked actually for sid gillman out in california for several years in the afl and had played for Paul brown so coach no was was you know sort of this this fantastically talented man and just came in and really you know transformed us from from losers to winners and deserves that credit but my father was the architect. It was his vision. You know my grandfather was a great promoter and a great sportsman but it was my father who really understood. We had to start putting tried and true business principles. We had to create structure. We had to bring people in. That weren't necessarily friends but but really could execute the the vision that that my father had and And then chuck ends up being one of my father's best friends but coming in you know the really. My father had met him before the interview process but he went through a very thorough interview process. He interviewed several candidates. Including penn state's coach. Joe paterno at the time But but chuck came in and really sort of transformed us and he had this great fervor for learning and chuck was a great teacher. And my father. If you look at my father you talked about him. Always broadening the question to the point of view you know. Curiosity was always so important. My how do you. How do you sort of expand your mind set on something. And that was coach noll. He was always interested in subjects beyond football and he brought that to the team. He brought this sense of you. know how. Do you broaden your perspective on whatever the situation is and and i think folks really responded to this idea that he was out for making everyone better you know whether it was talking to someone about their diet back in the seventies which was rare talking to someone about a specific technique or a strategy. You know he had a plan. He had a professional development plan as we would call it today for every player on the team every year training camp you know he would work with each player whether they were gonna get caught or whether they're going to go to the hall of fame and really you know teach them how they can make their lives better and certainly make their jobs better so so you know father bringing him was important but you had bill on. Who was. I think the third african american scout and from nineteen sixty nine seventy six. The steelers draft more players from the stoically black colleges and universities than any other team. You have melt blinds. You have john stallworth. Yanni shell who should two of them in the hall of fame one who should definitely be in the hall of fame but then a bunch of other guys. They're playing those. Those major contributing rule roles like arne homes on the on the steel curtain defense. So you had this great team and it was. It was brought together a unique way. You brought one of the best. Pr men in the business. Joe gordon and joe helps build this brand that now you know. We traveled to california. And we fill the stadium when we play the chargers or in arizona. Where sixty percent. And and all those things go back to the seventies and this sort of vision and the architect that architectural approach that my my father hadn't putting this together and You know certainly something. We're proud of that you know just to see sort of those those themes in that approach carry on fifty years later is Especially yeah let me ask you about a couple of other things in this book We can touch. On booming revenue skyrocketing valuation certainly tell the story of the nfl. But the lake that your dad help build ultimately made him feel uneasy. Why was that great. Great great question. I tried to talk about that. My my father You know he. He never had a problem with people. Earning money. I'd i don't want to come across like that. But he whether it was with the family which he was he was very. It was always on guard with this with players with other folks in the league Even business partners who who i think rolled his eyes at him a little bit. You know the networks and some of the sponsors but he always said look. We can't get greedy. You know like what we wanna do is deliver a product that people want to be part of and part of wanted to be part of something is you don't feel like you're getting taken advantage of. And that was really important to him and you know he would see a steelers fan and there was. There was no bigger part. You know and love the steelers more than my father but he would see someone with you. Know a couple of thousand dollars worth of steeler gear on and and i know this is a little bit presumptive but but maybe assume based on on some other factors. He was identifying that they live in a neighborhood. Where your your house was worth. You know fifty thousand dollars or something like that and that troubled him that that that there was this exploitative nature to big business too big sports too big entertainment and You know he was. He was a voice in the room and probably the last voice in the room. You know always saying look. I don't mind us making profits. I don't mind as being successful but we gotta watch that line of exploiting people. It's just it's it's not right.

Eight hundred eight seventy emails racket. Sports bounds emails today. from scott Rick from me tony. Boselli huge hall of fame snub. How is he not in your thoughts. thanks for that and like every year there are guys who may or may not deserve. It's usually less than football. 'cause they have five minimum but this year is class. I think presented some unique challenges. Because you're going to have to guys for sure on the first ballot that was manning woodson. Then you had another Fulltime guy first ballot guy who retired at thirty and i wondered if people at hold it against them and they didn't and that was mega truck. So i mean drew pearson got in from the senior vote And then you think about allen antica who deserved a tom. Flores deserved it. The one that you might say have was john lynch. But yeah. I mean i'm with you tony. Boselli is just the same as as allen fanta all decade team in the nineties. He was a five time pro bowler but the thing that voters hold against. Tony boselli is. He only played six years. Career ruined by an injury. And if you don't play one hundred games in the nfl. They're not putting in the hall of fame. They're just not Anybody else who. I thought was snubbed. Reggie wayne you know it's it's always hard to cast someone at somebody's robin to batman. But you know that was sort of like peyton manning and reggie wayne but they hold it against him you know if you think about the great connections and football history and i know he's not jerry rice but where would montana montana young be without jerry rice but i mean super bowl champion six time. Pro bowler led the nfl and receiving. He's eighth all time eighth all time. And he was the number one guy for peyton manning and he played for thirteen years. So i guess he's. He's just going to have to wait At this point when you think about his association with marvin harrison. Because you'd say come on rick. Marvin harrison was paid. Manning's main i alright is as main guy but reggie wayne. Even when harrison was on the team lead the colts and receiving a few times. So i think that's what holds like you like cliff branch. Well there's probably leading. Aqap this. John taylor get love now. Because there's jerry rice so it happens sometimes it does happen. I mean lynn swann. The guy who got the headlines. John stallworth was a way better receiver much taller. Much better hands. So it's still waiting I know some saints fans. Were surprised that didn't.

"York man, so they have played in that. You know, Tom floor is probably times and I've never asked him. What is most satisfying win is but the red right 88 game and Cleveland I mean, that was Chest, inhuman to play football game in the ad. So, um I mean, you're not gonna move there, Super Dave. There's no way Mike Brown is ever getting a Super Bowl. That's not it, but It just, you know, it's just unfortunate that we've dodged it. It's it's been close. Many many times We're home team and the 40 Niners. You're different. What I'm saying is the stadium. Yeah, the 40 Niners and after travel very far to go to Stanford, but it's not their home. Stadio has got their home locker room the L. A Rams with fairy gamma when they played against the Steelers. In the John Stallworth over the fingertips of Rod Perry play at the Super Bowl That was in Pasadena. That's in the Rose Bowl That's close to and they were the L. A Rams. Then they weren't down and they were playing sold the Coliseum. So that was close. But there's really nothing you can do about it. I mean, you think Champa Bai is in a very good team. But then they get Tom Brady and the Super Bowl is scheduled years out. So what's the rotation now? Lost Los Angeles next year, right? I think New Orleans is already back in the rotation for a few years. Don't think Dallas is back in any time soon. That's always a good venue. Cowboys haven't been to one and so long on the Vegas Vegas at some point They haven't scheduled a well, first I got to bring the draft back to Vegas. Yes. Raiders lost the draft to draft this year is gonna be in Cleveland. Oh, it's gonna be close a couple of West Coast. Right narrow. It's gonna It's It's so fine, extra Nella, then it's in Glendale, Arizona. Back to Glenda. Yeah. And then there's got to 40 Niner home game. Yeah, wouldn't be. They know that they know that stadium. How about that Levi's will ever get wants to get so far getting in the rotation now in L. A. And that clearly, I mean, I don't know if you saw the NFL honors show on Saturday night, but most of it was done from Sophie. I And it's you know, and I found that works there and they're gonna They're gonna move the NFL network. They're gonna close. They called her city and I'm gonna go to write in the sofa. I think, eventually once the pandemics through, but anyway, so I think l a is going to be in the rotation without question, And we haven't been there yet, but that supposed to be even better than Dallas. First quality the stadium. You wonder of Levi's. We'll never get a Super Bowl again. I think the trade off would be at the 40. Niners Go international to play a game. You make a You know a deal there to get a Super Bowl back in the rotation but was so fi opening and you mentioned Vegas is going to be in the rotation, and it's gonna be top tol work in all these rotations on the West Coast. Yeah, l A next year. Glendale. After that, then there's a to be determined because in 2024, nor it was supposed to be New Orleans. But with the NFL moving to a 17 game regular season They moved back a week so that created a conflict with Mardi Gras. Yeah, And so in 20 Vegas right there, we wouldn't have three in a row on the West Coast, though. No, because Ugo a F C NFC or knowing that they were going to straight NFC, So I usually I thought it was a F C. N F. C, but it's too straight NFC Cinderella, Who's Who's the host team in the L. A one. There's one of the things they got to calling it the Chargers or something. Did you see a crime people? That stadium was built by cranky, cranky ball. So, Yeah, I've That would be amazing if it was and I just love to see the Super Bowl in Vegas that would be insane. Then what would everybody do? You either go to two different things. You either go to watch the Super Bowl where the game is being played, or you go to Vegas. So what do you do with the game itself is in Vegas. The sports books will be just overrun because that's most obviously most people aren't Staying for the game and well, they're not going to the game, I should say. So ended by then. So what's the opening and three years to to Ella Ella Glendale than England? By then, how many states are many states in the in the Continental 48. I'll have legalized gambling. Most already several US and Utah very high percentage. We may have it by then We got a lot of red tape going here. But yeah, Yeah, that would be nice. Somebody asked. Why doesn't the NFL build their own stadium? Because what they're doing right now? What you gonna do with it? Just leave it empty every year. Understand a Super Bowl there every year. Obviously, what they're trying to do is when you build a stadium, they will come. So even in Detroit. That's why Detroit got the Super Bowl. The second time around that I talked about between the Seahawks and the Steelers. They Ford Field was built, They said. If you build it, we will come. That's what they try to do. They try toe give you our area that that's that's almost to give. And even in cold weather cities like Minnesota, you building a stake in the stadium done. They're gonna They're gonna get the Super Bowl rotation at least one time, and then you're You know, then it goes to New Orleans every other year or New Orleans like every five years. And Miami's gotta have one every five years. You know there. There's some is ever gonna go back to Dallas? I mean, now that you got video five built. I wonder for Dallas is a great stadium, but we have to go. But everybody says it's better if the NFL was gonna build a stadium they should build in San Diego. That's always there. Not gonna build the stadium. I know you're not just saying why would they do if you were gonna build one? That would be a good place. Would not. There was a Super Bowl in Atlanta. They had one of the Mercedes Benz. That was when When he built that stadium, Mercedes Benz Stone they they had to stay Super Bowl there recently. Dante Whitner will join us coming up next the player's perspective on the Super Bowl, what he saw and also, what about all those? He probably didn't like those P eyes, nose holding calls in the second quarter will ask him all about it. Next on Lee here on the SportsCenter. Speak, Papa and learn to the house. Your house..

"A steel and you're paying for the personality of Tom Brady and for him to impart it on the football team, which is exactly what he did in Tampa Bay this year with this Super Bowl win, Tom and Michigan Grass Show, CBS Sports Radio Tommy Good evening. Hey, thanks for having me on. Of course what he got. Thank you. You made it just kind of interesting monster going around that Tom Brady is the best ever. And that's kind of in it kind of an interesting statement, And I want to ask you a few questions about that statement because I'm gonna beg to differ on that. Because you know, like Michael Jordan wouldn't say he's the best ever. He would talk about the fact that he hasn't played against Jerry West. Hasn't played against some of those other guys, right? I think we probably need to consider the fact that Tom Brady's playing in a modern era of football, but there's a lot of other like what would have happened if he had played against Michael Singletary. Or dick buckets? Oh, yeah, e. I mean, I mean, if we're going to be, but if we're gonna be fair about it, Brady played for the first 6 to 8 years of his career, where there were still rules in place where quarterbacks were getting hit. His his era. His era stretches so long he played in different styles of NFL football. The guy's been around so long and was great in both. For example, like I walked into John United his office one day when I lived in Maryland. I was doing some sales work. I walked into the was in Timonium, Maryland. I walked in an office and John United sitting at a desk. Shook his hand. I You put Johnny and itis on this Tampa Bay team. What would happen? Honestly, they they get smoked. I think it's pretty easy to be able to say Tommy is the best ever into me. You didn't bring any argument because here's the thing. You know what the quarterbacks of the sixties would have done in and like if we're just going to drop those guys in now, because that's what you're talking about, right? Is it? Well, if we drop them in right now, That's why we can't say the best ever. Okay. I mean, his little deductive reasoning. Then I would think those guys like united us like Bart Starr. Ah, you know, I'm trying. Remember some of the other, you know, like Len Dawson, right? Want to go back to the sixties? Wouldn't go back to the sixties, and you know what those guys would have done? They want a failed fabulously in this offense because their arms would have fallen off. A very quick story. My father in law is one of the best players ever. Brown University baseball football. Everything in 66 pretty sure 66 67 66. He was drafted by the FL, the NFL and Major League Baseball. And when he played a brown university, I think he told me like he threw the ball, Maybe like 100 times in a year. We're talking like 10 times a game right now at the NFL level in the sixties and the seventies. You were throwing the ball, maybe 2025 times a game, And that was if you got down because it was built around offensive linemen and running backs. Now the game is built around skill players who are quick twitch guys. So I would dare say that Tom Brady would have the ability to go play in those neophyte offenses of the sixties. There were single wing and In fact, I brought up my father in law because he was like the Ivy League player of the year and 66 ran for. I don't know 1200 yards or Something stupid like that, right? Like those offenses back then you would think that the quarterback still needed move, or it was just turn around and power football. And maybe it threw the ball a little bit. Tom Brady would've sliced and diced those defense is you put those old quarterbacks in now they would have been hurting even guys like Bradshaw, who could fling the bean a little bit and played with some really good Hall of Famers. I mean, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann. Guys like that. I don't know how that guy would have done in that now. Everybody says Well, it's not his physical and they might have been able to survive. Okay, that I could kind of by a little bit. But relative to the modern era Tom Brady bridges the gap from this fast break football that we see now to the way it was 20 years ago. And oh, by the way. He's been just as good in both And as he's gotten older, someone argued that the guy has gotten better. And one of the arguments that Tom Brady is the best ever and that these old timers aren't Is that eight years 10 years into their career, their bodies were falling apart because when you're ripping darts at halftime, and when your post game is a bucket of chicken and a six pack of beer when the game is over with It's not exactly taking care of your body in a way to where you could play great and 43 keep going, so I would submit Brady's the best your thoughts. CBS Sports Radio. Okay..

"But we're gonna We're gonna go back a little bit. In the throat backs. Let me throw back Saturday. My name is Pakistan. My form of radio name's Carmine. He stuck sports with the Super Bowl upon us, and with everything that's gone on in the world. I really don't want to talk about politics or what's going on. I want to talk about the Super Bowl. And you know, there's just so much just this game brings to mind. You know, maybe the clothes the changing of guard we have the We have to go and Tom Brady and you have Pat Mahomes. Patrick is just a hell of a quarterback. But what's interesting is I Listen all week long. How Patrick Mahoney's loses this game. He could never be the greatest quarterback of all time. And I'm like you guys. You guys really that daft I mean, when you look back over the years, there was a guy named Dan Marino in a second season broke every passing record known to man. They were calling him the second coming and he was going to be a dominant force in the NFL. He went to the Super Bowl that season. It got destroyed by Joe Montana, 38 to 16. But everybody thought Miami would be back and they never got there again. And when you look at the accomplishments of this young man in three years as a starting quarterback, regardless of the winds tomorrow, well, it does not stamp his career. When you think about this, he has more wins. Then Jim Kelly has been there four times whose own for Fran Tarkington is owing three. Okay. Aaron Rodgers and Brett Farve each have one Super Bowl. This is he's got a shot going after number two in the back to back Chiefs had men disturb role in 50 years and they got their last year and damn near made it. This coulda been three in a row Had not for Tom Brady taking the Patriots to Kansas City, upsetting the chief that year in overtime. They want what they want to kick off, and they went right down the field that won the game like they did two years earlier in the Super against Atlanta, But the bottom line is this When you look at this matchup The reality is it's not Brady against my homes. It's the Kansas City Chiefs because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and you gotta look at this game from a whole different Platform. It's not those two players were gonna make the difference and Brady's case what he what he has left behind or what he's lost in his mind and his mind. Homes may never learn. Brady has several distinctions going into this game number one. He will be The first quarterback to play in 10 Super Bowls that's never been done before. It may never be done again in our lifetimes. Number two. He's the winning a Super Bowl quarterback in NFL history with six Now that could be broken, But maybe it'll take some years. If he loses tomorrow, he has the distinction of being the Super Bowl champion in losses as well. He could tie Jim Kelly with four defeats in the Super Bowl. Right now he's tied with Fran Tarkington with three Now they call him the goat. But his fault He's 46 3 hasn't won. Every game has been too Mahomes wins, I'll be tuning on the Super Bowl. Is that making the greatest know the interesting thing about these dynasties that we see and how they built? Their built is every dynasty has great players, And it's not just the quarterback you had Joe Cool with the 40 Niners. I still think is the greatest quarterback I have ever seen. Period from Uncle here in Pennsylvania. He was the greatest period and if the game was played the way this today when he played, he might have one more. Jerry Rice says he would probably put it in the 500 passes Montana. What took a lot of Beaton's yet he got it done. He was flawless and Super Bowls for no. Bradshaw Foreign All was he is good. A quarterback is Joe Montana. No. Steelers had a great defense, but they also had great weapons. Franco Harris, Rocky Bleier, when Swan John Stallworth They were amazing football teams every dynasty, the Green Bay Packers of the sixties, the first team that went to Super Bowls in a row and who they beat Super Bowl. One Kansas City. When you look at that Packer team, it's hard to believe that that that many players off that particular team made the Hall of Fame that like one in 11 before they got taken over by Vince Lombardi. Great coaches involved here. Okay? Look at Kansas City now. Arians can't be called the great coach described head stretch. And Andy Reid has been knocking on the door for many years. This is a chance for him to get number two. He is constructing an incredible organization in Kansas City did didn't Philadelphia's well but he couldn't get over the top with Donovan McNabb, but this particular team Mahomes brings to the game. Such a flair, things that you don't ever see before You see the play quarterback in NFL is not physical. It's mental, and he has the mental skills to be successful. He can use his feet. Gigi has a cannon for an arm. And he does have to be in private improvisational. But when you look at Tom Brady Brady is a tailor made quarterback pocket passer. He's not very not very fluently runs. Great at the quarterback Sneak. That's about as far as he's going to run with the ball. But his passing is brilliant. And and his brain for the game is just amazing. So you're gonna see a 25 year old youngster who I believe is a genius against Ah 45 43 year old genius. Now I believe that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next year would have been the team to beat for the Super Bowl right now. I don't see it. Now, when you look at the first two games in the plastic, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played The New Orleans Saints lost the game more than the Buccaneers won the game. Case in point. Drew Brees.

And then the encore replay tomorrow morning at eight o'clock. All right, guys, Let's wrap the week with our favorite Super Bowl games. We've been doing something Super Bowl related at this time every day this week getting ready for Super Bowl 55. Obviously Super Bowl 20. I mean, we We've got to do something other than Super Bowl 21, Right? Merc. I mean, that's obviously our favorite Super Bowl when the Bears Yeah, that's three. Come to mind for me. If you make me pick one. I'll try. But it's hard, the three that come to mind when, when Mark asked the question. Rams Titans Cardinal Steelers Patriots Falcons. Those three come to my mind more than any other. I might go with cardinals and Steelers If I was forced to pick absolutely want some of the Patriots Falcons game with a dot in the first what was but think about the way that game finished and how much fun it was getting the paint the Cardinals. Steelers Super Bowl featured Kurt Warner back for a third time. Ben Roethlisberger Ah 100 yard interception return for a touchdown at the end of the half. And then maybe the greatest touchdown catch toe win a Super Bowl. Ever right with Santonio Holmes, Right, Right. In the corner of the end of that game featured. It was the top of Mohammed holders like that game had it all. All right. So what's category? Just like that Super Bowl you've ever seen Super Bowl pointy? That's what I said. I said you can't go unsuitable 20 Super Bowl 20. Don't tell me what I can and can't master really going to Falco down the right side. Good kid, Johnny Handsome. It was Super Bowl 20. If not, Matsui run like I can't do it in Los Angeles, Pittsburgh Glossy angels, I believe was 1979. 79 fair. Gamma was a quarterback. Yes, he watches in the Pittsburgh Steelers. There were catches be made by Lynn Swan and John Stallworth that just made just say. Beautiful. You're the fall that game for me will go to the bathroom. Call Melanie. You know for me, Believe it or not, I think it's actually the first game. I actually have memories of watching from start to finish its Super Bowl 23, the San Francisco 40 Niners taking and the Cincinnati Bangles for the second time down in Joe Robbie Stadium. The Bangles were leading. And sure enough, Joe Montana in the 40 Niners got the ball. I believe it was the minute 52 like that, like that left on the clock and then Joe Montana inside the huddle. As they were getting ready to go on that last minute drive. There, he knelt down and the his legend has it, he said. Hey, look, is that John Candy in the stands? That's the legend to calm the nerves of his players and then, sure enough, he led them down, throwing a touchdown pass to John Taylor to go ahead and take the victory. And I remember as soon as the game ended. Me and my three friends when right out right out the front door and played a little two on two down the down the gangway football and it was like that's like my memory of symbols. That's where began for me. So for me, that's like my favorite. So that's really good. And your legend does have it that that's what Montana did to calm everybody down. He goes. Hey, look, John Candy's in the stands over there. Pretty amazing looking kid who much chance E I don't know about that handsome fellow Some ladies like the big ice. What are you doing? Avocados show Mark. What do you think? Crazy enough, Joe Montana said yesterday. That was John Taylor's only catching The suit. That's super. That's crazy is mine is gonna be kind of personal woman I was at the game was I've never said better seats ever for a game with 50 yard line for some reason. The NFL gave us like four seats myself. Bob Bruce and Peter Brown were sitting three seats away from Ice Cube. It was detect. It was in Houston. It was a Patriot first, the Panthers was one last second field goal by Adam Monetary, and it was just such an unbelievable experience. That is by far my favorite to another. There was another Brady military rally, and that was another great game. All right. What does everybody think? Casey or the bucks? I think, Casey, but I don't have a ton of Casey. Plus feel 15. Plus, I know murder, he says. Don't bet against Tom Brady. Right? That's right. So it works going Buck's mother ride with your ego. I think the chief's going this by double digits here we're going to see. Hopefully it's a good game, and we won't damage to Brady's reputation. If you know w never lost by double No, it doesn't. But you know what it does. It gives. It gives my homes of fighting shot if he could get his second Super Bull and holds Brady to six. It's not outrageous. He could catch him or he could. Because the other way, though I don't know if if it goes 7 to 1, it becomes difficult to envision it. Thank you to Mike North. Thank you, too. Todd ferment for joining us today.
