"Three two one. If you're interested in Team USA versus Japan from Miami tonight, that's at 7 eastern on Fox Sports. One. I was watching some of the Mavs game and they played Memphis. And after the game, Dylan Brooks took off his Jersey. He wanted to exchange jerseys with Kyrie Irving. Kyrie didn't want his Jersey. It was awkward. Dylan Brooks is like, oh, hey, Kyrie, can I get you Jersey? Kyrie takes the Jersey off, gets it to him and Dylan Brooks has his Jersey off. And Kyrie is like, nah, I ain't interested. I've been waiting all day to ask you guys. Now, Kyrie Irving could have easily taken the Jersey, spared Dylan Brooks from an embarrassing moment. And when he went to the back room could have tossed the Jersey or tossed it later. He did it on purpose, right? He's like, hey man, you're making a name for yourself I'll run a league, but I'm not playing ball with you. I don't know what he thinks of Dylan Brooks. I think the veterans might not love them. Yeah, I agree. I mean, he's trying to make a name for himself the way draymond green did. And Patrick Beverly, I mean, these instigators here. I get it. But I don't know if kairi's like, yeah, I want to put your Jersey up with all the other ones there. Yes, Kyrie said after the game that it wasn't intentional. That it was just, he didn't, I guess, realized that Dylan Brooks was taking his Jersey off right in front of him. Okay. That may be next time. This is where, hey, Kyrie can see the court better than anybody. You didn't see what was going on right in front of you. Hall of Famers with less than ten playoff games. Nolan Ryan? Tom Seaver? Wait, Sandy Koufax is on this list? Now that could be, you know, he could have played it in a bunch of World Series and still have 8 playoff games. I knew there were less there was less rounds back then, but okay. These are all pictures, by the way. So I understand making an appearance in a playoff game. Roy Halladay Lee Smith Gaylord Perry won Marshall, Phil Negro. That isn't really fair to Sandy Koufax because he was in the playoffs. 6 times out of 9 seasons. He made the postseason. But here's the comp for maybe Mike Trout, alkaline. Alkaline was a Hall of Famer for the tigers, he played in 5 playoff games in his career. Mike trouts

"It could be bob Gibson. It could be Dave Parker coming to the plate. There are always, it felt like there was a little more the big red machine. And baseball still missing that marketing arm that is must see TV to watch these players. I'd say healthy Zion when he was playing and playing well and no he's not the best player in the league, but if I saw NBA pass and I saw Zion playing and but you don't know when he's going to play. Yeah. I would watch ja. John Moran I'd go out of my way to watch. But the NBA's probably got I don't know if you go out of your way to see Joker. Dame Lillard, I would go out of my way to see. Now you're still going to watch LeBron. Steph Curry, I'm going to watch. The warriors as a team. Am I watching embiid? Yeah, I'm fascinated with somebody who has that talent who can play outside and inside. Celtics, I'm still interested in Jason Tatum. Who else would be there? Durant and Phoenix, I'm interested in the Kyrie. To watch him play, I'm not talking about talk. Play? He's maybe as entertaining a ballplayer you'll find. Entertaining? I'll wait, I'll wait for a good answer. Yeah. He went scoreless in the fourth quarter last night, and he's one of the great fourth quarter scorers in NBA history. I know what Mars saying and he's right. He is fantastic to watch, but he's so frustrating in other ways. It makes you not plan to tune into them. But when you watch Mike, I wish I could see more of this. I wish we could focus on more of this, just his crossovers and his drives to the back. But he's going to be on another team next year and that won't be his last stop. He's had LeBron. He had the Celtics. He had KD. I mean, he's played with tell me somebody who's played with more stars than Kyrie has. Recently. So you got LeBron, best player in the game, Celtics, Tatum was developing into a great player. That was a very good team. You got KD, yad Hardin, and now you're with Luca. Does he make any of those teams winners? He ruined his stay in Boston. This isn't going to go well in Dallas. We know what happened with the nets. And he wanted out of Cleveland because LeBron came back won a title and he lost his own team. He'll be on another team next year. Yes, he. But maybe that's why the stop in Dallas is okay. It's not to be taken seriously. He needed to get out of Brooklyn. All right. Dallas will take me next year. I'll do I'll go to the team I want to be at. If that team exists, but yeah, you know what I mean? Like this is just a layover. Yeah, more. Does Kyrie seem like the type of guy who's going to be a first battle Hall of Famer, but it's going to be like, oh, but he could have done so much more.

"That. I haven't heard one way or another, but I think understanding where you feel comfortable. Like ichiro felt comfortable in Seattle, now he could have played anywhere, but there's certain Tony Gwynn felt comfortable in San Diego. Certain players feel comfortable and don't want to go to bigger markets. Not everybody's built to play in New York. We know that we've seen that before. Yeah, do you think a ring will mean more in Anaheim than LA or New York? Sure. So maybe he's trying to do that. I mean, they're not going anywhere. I mean, look, I understand that, but if I'm ohtani's agent, do I want to get him into LA or New York? Absolutely. I want him on TV. I want him seen by people. I want him in playoff games. I want him to be showcased as the most valuable player in Major League Baseball, which he is. His value to the game, worldwide, eyeballs, that people love watching Aaron judge Shohei Ohtani gives you at the plate and on the mound. And nobody gives you that. He's the unicorn. Yeah, Pauly. One thing that's been bothering me about the angels for the past few years remember, I think it was the 2021 draft and they had 20 rounds of elections. They took all pitchers. That seems to me irresponsible. I saw some of the coverage of that. I know you're trying to win with pitching, but your pharmacist, I don't know, that just seemed nuts. By the way, I mentioned LeBron James, with a movie, I thought maybe he has his own documentary series like Michael Jordan did for ten years down the road. LeBron James is the subject of an upcoming biopic. Peacock announced it will premiere shooting stars of film based on the Bron James early life and high school career. And it will come out in 2023, the movie will be adapted from the book of the same name, which was authored by LeBron James and buzz bissinger. Let's see, what else do we have here? The filming was slated to begin in April and Cleveland and Akron. That's all the information I got on that. So it's a biopic. I don't know who's going to play LeBron James in that. Yes. I'm sorry, I'm still looking at Mike Trout's contract. So he still has 300 coming to him. Yeah. Okay. Through 2030. And he's already made about two ten. Yeah. Ouch. Pile it on. It's not bad money if you could get it.

"There's all kinds of different rules for the posting Shohei Ohtani and Darvish had their posting was so great that the Japanese built a basic new brand new stadium over there because of the posting that comes to them. So they understand eventually he's going to go. It really is an individual choice and of course club control over the time frame. How big is the WBC? And can you see where we're not waiting for years? Well, you know, there's so much conversation around what the Team USA hasn't had on the roster in the past. And it's starting to be filled up a little bit better. There's some restrictions, of course, that the conversation always goes like this. Look, if your mindset, you come to spring training, you think you're going to get hurt, you're going to get hurt. But we have players get hurt in spring training all the time. And we don't really notice it. But if somebody gets hurt in the WBC, we bang the drum and it has got to be canceled. So there's got to be this understanding from the clubs and USA baseball federation that the more stars we have, the better it is. And those countries are starting to showcase their stars and get into a point where now that's why the excitement is the way it is. And it's played out. With Mike Trout playing and he had guarantee from everything I've heard, he's going to spread the word wherever he goes to any player in the big leagues saying you want to be part of this. That's going to help the future of WBC gain more and more attraction. Because this has been an epic one. This has been one that everyone's been waiting for for a long time. Have fun tonight, John, great to talk to you. My pleasure, go Spartans. That's still John smoltz Hall of Famer. He's in the bracket challenge. Let me see, I got his brackets here. He's got Gonzaga. Oh, he had Purdue facing gun saga there. Where does smoltz rank there Fritz's third? He is in third place. Yeah, third place. I haven't even looked at our bracket challenge. Peter king is leading, of course, Adam Sandler, then John, fritzi John Daly Connor McDavid, nichelle Turner, Troy Aikman Ross Tucker. As you would think, rounding out the fourth spot. "Got a chance to see the Michael Jordan movie. It's not really about Michael Jordan, but it's called air. It's about the recruitment of Michael Jordan by Nike and the stars are sunny vaccaro, who was the he was the longtime basketball rep for Nike. Got all those coaches, went out and got Jordan, changed Nike, changed Jordan. And Viola Davis plays Michael Jordan's mom. So the stars are Matt Damon and Viola Davis, and I would highly recommend it. It was really, really well done. And interesting, it's a story that you probably maybe heard a little bit about it, but the role of Michael Jordan is mom is, I mean, it's groundbreaking. She changed Nike, she changed athletes with brands because she said we want $250,000. Michael wants a Mercedes and we want a percentage of every single shoe that Michael's name is on it. And they agreed to it. And even in the movie, Phil knight played by Ben Affleck goes, what could it cost us? Like a couple $1 million.

"Okay, have you ever had parents say, I don't like the way you yell at my son? Of course. And what do you say? I say, what would you do if you skipped class 15 times in a month? I never get a good answer either. You want the truth. That's all good. You know what? And all goodness aside, whatever the rules are, we'll abide by them, but I hope we don't lose a lot more good coaches because of this because there's some really good people that are trying to help kids and there's some other people that are trying to expose kids if you ask me and we'll find a happy medium, but right now it's the NCA tournament we're in a sweet 16. I'm hoping I'm talking to you next week because we're moving on. How's that? Good to talk to you, coach. Thanks for joining us. Thanks, Dan. It's Tom izzo. Hall of Famer. He's been at Michigan state for 28 years. And you start to look around. I mean, Pitino is a lifer. Pitino just signed for 6 years, St. John's. And Rick is on a redemption tour. This is all right. You guys all kicked me to the curb. I went to Greece. I won a championship. I came back to iona. Now I'm going to St. John's and I have receipts. That's what it feels like. Your coach till he dies. But you lose Jay Wright, and Jay Wright is, I mean, he was a preeminent coach. And I think he just felt like I don't want to do this anymore. And speaking to a former assistant coach, two to three days ago, and I just said, do you understand what Jim behem? He heard the interview with Behan. And he said, I totally get that. Where you just, you can't take a breath. It feels like there's so much pressure. You got kids who are making money. People want to help the kids make money. People who might not be helping the kids for the right reasons. Everybody wants to have their hand in all of this and you're trying to coach them. And he said, coaching is hard enough. Expectations, but he said, when you throw in everything else, and he said, if you can make money, make money. Not everybody makes money. Everybody has the feeling that they can make money. That's the biggest problem, because there's always somebody who goes, hey, you come to this school, I can get you this. He said, that's part of the problem. You need stability at that age, you need to have guidance there, you need to have people help you on and off the court. And he said, we're losing that. And we're probably not going to get it back again.

I'd love to see Shohei Ohtani go against Mike Trout, but ohtani is not scheduled to pitch, but that could be a great matchup there. We'll get to your phone calls. We'll talk to Tom ISO, Michigan state, head coach. He's been to 8 final fours in his career. The other 15 coaches left in the suite 16 have a combined total of 7 final fours. In other words, coaches has been around a long, long time. I thought I was able to outlast all of these guys. Coach K is gone. And Roy Williams is gone. Beheim is gone. And there you go. You won't leave, Tom. Congratulations. You've done it again. Yeah, like a bad habit, man. I'm still here, Dan, but so are you. So I guess we're in this together. Yeah. You know, we shouldn't be surprised, but are you surprised that you're in the sweet 16? You know, it has been a funny year. I like my team the whole year. And that doesn't normally happen. You know, we had a bunch of injuries early to starters were out for quite a while and as we started getting one of them back, I said, you know, this team, we got some experience. We got some guys that started playing well. Our guards, you know, Hogarth and Tyson walker and Jay naked have really started to play well together. We started shooting it better. And so am I surprised? That totally, but I thought the team we beat in marquette was a really good team really good. Deserving where they were and where they were seated. How do you coach in the tournament as opposed to how you coached during the regular season? Well, most of our fans think I golf during the regular season, just kind of sit back and do nothing. March comes and I like start working or something.

I will just, I can attest, again, my brother and I, same mother, totally different personalities. He will tell you that I will tell you that you take a look at my same for you. Dude, him in the American girl doll store. That was rich. Is truly disturbing. It was disturbing. It was so good. It was risky for him. It was. But like John Cena level comic beats out of him. I mean, he went for it. He went for it, and he I saw that I'm like, who does that comic style remind me of? And it was Cena. Yeah. I could see you say it. You know what I mean? Like Jason had a Jason popped up a few times. I know. Hopefully Jason's going to be out. He's coming out for the broadcast boot camp. We'll have him in studio. I want to delve in more on that. I just wanted to focus more on his comeback here. American doll thing, rich. It was funny. Hey, Travis, when you're in LA, let me know you're in town, like my buddy Sam prince. "Don't exist. Of course, now you don't throw it hitters anymore. Aaron judge was interviewed during the game yesterday. And he said that you have to get back in and it's quicker. So I have less time to think about the last pitch. Like he liked it, that all right, let that go, now get in and get ready for that next pitch. Can you understand that logic? Absolutely. And that's where the strategy is going to come in. If you've heard me broadcast a lot, you've heard me talk about where the last pitch was and how pitchers don't take advantage of where the last pitch was and what the hitter did in his reaction. In other words, if I threw a high fastball and he swung at it, okay? If you take too long and that hit or forgets where that pitch is and you bounce one in the dirt, you're not taking advantage of where that last pitch is. So what he's talking about can work in an advantage for a hitter. And maybe a disadvantage for a pitcher. So that's going to be balanced out. I always pitch where the last pitch was. And I pitched off of it. And I didn't want too much time to go back because I didn't want to hit her to reset. I wanted him to think about what he swung at and then make him try to chase it a little bit farther off. I didn't want time to go by so he could reset his brain. I didn't know that they have these pitching machines. We were out at the Super Bowl, we went to the Giants camp. And they can simulate Clayton Kershaw's curveball. Yeah. Isn't that wild that they could say we're facing de Grom or that you can kind of plug that into these machines? Yeah, those were starting to be birthed when I was at the end of my career, and I was always, you know, you know, me. I was always jabbing my teammates going, man, I'd love to face me, but then again, no, I don't want to face Facebook. And they were like, shut up, smokes. And I said, listen, you know, that technology exists now. And yes, you can see and shape pitches and get used to shaping pitches. The one thing that still difficult is the hand that, you know, it's coming out of that hole in the screen. So you can start looking at those pitches, but the timing, and that's what I've always said about pitching. Why do you guys not use the wind up more? Why are we like you're letting the hitter see too much of a kind of a conformed mini stretch delivery. So those things can be mimicked in time. And I'm all for whatever is going to help everybody, but I still think the picture has the advantage when he uses the wind up. Would you have rather faced lavender mannix? Oh man, either one. I said to glad and I said, you better hope you never go somewhere else because I'm not dumped like the rest of those hitters. I'm going to sit on your change up. And so we faced each other and it was right after the all star break. And I kid you not. I had pulled my hamstring and they said to me, you need to take a start off. I said, no, it's lined up with glavin. I am not taking a start off. I'm facing him. It's aces loaded one out. And I'm sitting on a change up and this is what I learned, even if I sat on the change up, I couldn't hit it. And so I pulled it to shortstop. It was like a tractor pull running to first. I had a pulled hamstring. I was trying to beat it out and I couldn't. I obviously faced them both at the latter part of their career, but they're so good at knowing what you were looking for and giving it to you, but not in that area. And hitters just weren't, they didn't go the other way. And when you don't go the other way against them, you lose. I would love if I was a hitter to face either one from the standpoint of I knew it was going to be around the strike zone. Yes. It's the guy that you're not quite sure. Like Randy Johnson, no way. Not interested. Not interested at all. Did you ever go up there with fear? Oh, yes. Yeah, I'll tell you what. I mean, Pedro Martinez struck fear in me just because he was so nasty you were gonna embarrass yourself. And I did. Right? I did get lucky and get one hit off of him up the middle, but you know what's weird is Randy and I are in the same era, obviously we went into the Hall of Fame together and we never faced each other. And so if it were possible and I mean this without getting severely fine. If there was a way to go up there without a bat against one of those guys you feared that you didn't know if they'd throw a strike, but you also didn't know if you did it in the ribs. I'd go up there without a bat. It would mess with their minds. Allowed to go to the plate with no bat. I don't think so, but you know, honestly, I tried to tell everybody when Rick ankiel was going through what he was going through. And we faced him in the playoffs against the Cardinals. And I begged every hitter. Don't swing. You know, go up there with the bat, but don't swing and no one could do it and eventually he worked his way into trouble. But there are certain guys that if they saw you without a bat, it would flip, it would freak them out. And I don't think they could throw a strike. Always great to talk to you, John. Thank you, buddy. My pleasure. You got it. That's John smoltz. He's a Hall of Famer. And of course works for Fox Major League Baseball on Fox. I don't need one. I'm good. I don't need one. Jason and Colorado. Hi, Jase. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan, first time, long time. Seat in 6 foot tall and a healthy two 20? So I've just been having thoughts. The other day you guys were talking about how the commanders were going to not let Jeff Bezos did on them. And Mike thoughts are what is stopping Jeff Bezos from starting like a live towards high thing. Against the NFL, if they don't allow him to bid on this team, his worth is about the exact same as the NFL by itself. He doesn't need to do it by himself. I'm sure there's plenty of people that could get in. But yeah, just kind of one of your thoughts on that one actually. But nobody wants to be the opposition to the NFL. If Jeff Bezos wanted to buy the XFL or USFL, then you could be in conjunction with. He wants to own a team. And if he doesn't get a chance for Washington, then I think the Seattle Seahawks would probably fall in line with Jeff Bezos. We know he's got the money. And I don't know if it's a lifelong dream to own a certain franchise. But the fact that Daniel Snyder would rather take less money than sell it to Jeff Bezos. I find that very interesting. Yeah. So Daniel Snyder can pick who he sells it to, and then the NFL has to prove it. That's a process. Someone posted on Twitter the other day, Jeff Bezos should have one of his billionaire buddies by the team. And then flip it back to him a year later for an extra Bill, and then he doesn't have to go through. But he still has to be approved by the House to be approved. And that's the thing. Alberto in California. Dan, good morning. 5 a two O 8, 42 O 8. Okay. Two questions. What does the thing mean after someone gives their stats? Well, that started with rob dibble, the nasty boy. He was a co host that I worked with for a long time. And he would always tell me that he was trying to put on muscle. And he would always tell me how much he weighed just about every day. And then I did the height and weight bell just so he would realize how many times he was telling me and then the listeners started calling in and saying what their height and weight was. Dibbles still told me what his height and weight. I don't know if he realized that the height and weight belt was to remind him not to give me your height and weight every day and then the listeners, of course being as sharp as they are, they started doing that. But that's why we have a height and weight Bill. Drew in New Mexico. Hi drew. Hey. Hey. I got the privilege. I got the privileged tune in yesterday and hearing Dan Patrick channeling Will Ferrell doing Harry Carey referring to a George Clinton song. Like when you were a kid, chase the cab. But hey, dad. Right now, 54% say he hates the rule changes. There's a little bit of a perception that they benefit the offense. At least that's the way I'm reading it, right? Well, it seems like that. So far, if runs are up and batting averages are up. And just like the thing you said with Aaron judge, he's like, oh no, I like it because I don't think about the pitch more. Well, that would be a disadvantage to the pitcher then, right? But then I thought yesterday we were talking about this that the benefit would be for the pitcher because they can dictate the tempo of the game. Since they have longer to be able to throw the pitch, then the hitter to get into the batter's box, the pitcher can make that hitter weight if he wants to. But we'll talk to John smoltz about it. Fritzi is now sending me bad walk up songs. You're no good by Linda Ronstadt. You want to go up to that, you're no good. How about loser buy back? That'd be terrible. Yeah. Any other songs in their time? Came across a song called unathletic me by a Julie Wilson. I wasn't familiar with that, but that came up in a search and pressure. Billy Joel, you don't want to admit that you're nervous getting into the batter's bones. Okay. Just some suggestions. A few thoughts of what you don't want to pick going up to the batteries. Bad, bad walk up songs. Now we'll be inundated with bad walk up songs. Probably. Thank you. You're welcome. All righty. Maybe the audience should pick walk up songs for us. I was sort of in that vein of, okay? That match each guy's best sort of match our personalities. But in that vein could be Carly Simon, you're so vain. It could be. Who? You? You? Me? We're doing that Spider-Man meme right now. Me, you, you, Paul. I hate that curly swim and so on. You're so vain. Yeah, because the song was about him. You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you, but it was about him. So how does that mean? You're just playing some of those weird mind games. No, but she's saying that without your name being named in the song, when you heard the song, you said, ah, this is about me, without knowing it's about you. Yeah, but it was about them. Yeah. But he didn't know that before, said song was released. It was about them. You probably think this song is about you. No, I know this song is about. The Warren Beatty Noah went before the song came out. There was a song coming out about him. You know who else thought that was about Carly Simon 'cause you wrote it about him. It's deliberately about that one person. But if you listen to that song in the chorus, you can hear Mick Jagger. Don't know if you know this or not. But Jagger sang backup vocals. Now he probably had a different motive for helping Carly Simon sing that song, probably trying to hook up with her. But you can hear him when she says, you're so vain, you hear Jagger going, you're so vain. And so it's kind of stands out there. But Jagger's vain. Saw

"They don't have that kind of pitching so that would be a challenge when you get closer to. Let's say they were in a playoff run. How do you get him. Ready to pitch game one and sacrifice something maybe from his hitting standpoint to know. He's so important to win. A game on the mound. How many games can he win. A series obviously at the plate. So it's a it's a delicate shannon's but i'll tell you joe maddon has as a planet. He's worked it out. We're talking to the hall of famer. John smoltz he'll be joe buck tonight. Eight eastern on fox pregame coverage starts at seven kenny rosenthal. Tom verduci will be on the field as well. Part of the broadcasting crew. The spider tack controversies. Kind of gone away for a little while. I kind of like an into you know a police officer is here so you don't speed by him. You wait until your past him and then you may speed by him. So i'm assuming pitchers are just putting it away to bring it back as a former pitcher john. What would you be doing if you were using it. Well i think the biggest thing is that the information that's come out and the timing that they gave the pitchers you should be able to know how to this without it especially in the summer and i think every pitcher that's elite pitcher will learn how to get around that aspects of okay. This probably went too far and the rosin in sweat in the the ability to go to your mouth in create some saliva is there for the pitcher now. The challenge will be of course the is the gets cold out. You know the in at the end of the year. But i think once they understand that they don't have to have you know it's kind of like a psychological thing that in the summer you don't really need. You're going to see pitchers return back to the elite. Pictures will return back to their form because it won't be this red record conversation. We're having because they need this to pitch now. It might hurt some french pitchers or pitchers who have been able to excel. Because of it they're gonna have to learn differently. And that's where you're gonna see offense balance be a little bit better and i think that's what you've seen with hitters being a little more confident that you're not seeing kind of revolutions. Rpm's that they were before when you doctored the baseball. How did you do it on when i doctored a cia wish. I could've doctor today. All the bullfrog was the only way with ross area. Where if baseball next year can get to a common ground to wherever i think. They're working on substance that work for everybody because no hitter wants to know that a picture doesn't have control baseball see. It went from being able to control the baseball to be able to do things. go baseball. have been done before in our you know and i think that's the balance that's the argument and interest will not complain if you have control the baseball where they think it takes it to. The next level is when the backspin and the spin rate. It's to an all time high. And i think that's where they say. Okay that's crossing the line so back in the day when we couldn't go to our mouth so you're pitching colorado with some of my worst feelings in the world or i pitched in cleveland. I had no way of getting grip on the baseball and myself. My performance supper. It really did. And so from the from the moment it gap below forty..

"I want our game to be innovative. And all that. But you know. I've always said the ball. Japan comes out of the package with some tacky. And it's there there's no you know. They have different ball than we do. forever the umpires used to rub up the baseballs and there was kinda no issues back then now subject to the home club and the on pires. Don't roll up the baseball and you've got all those things and all those scenarios. I think people don't understand though how difficult it would be. If you ask batters hitters to go up to the plate with no no no gloves and no pine tar. I mean yeah. It's your hold onto an should be able to hit but the field's not there and they were there would be no way they could hit it. At the rate they have gloves in pine tar which is okay for hitters. so your point's well taken and hopefully there's that ability to do not get this technical technical scientific super edge. Nobody wants to be there. No one wants to have that edge realistically. Immorally to where. It's such an unfair advantage And and i think the numbers kind of indicated where the game was only offensively and to this point you could say hey. at least there's some light at the end of the tunnel of a little better balance. Because god knows we don't wanna move to bat mound back to feet. The worst thing that ever happens and then before we go here. John smoltz Where we are seeing two pitchers perform in a manner that is all time And degrom being one. Jacob degrom being one with the mets and how he is performing and how he throws and what gas he brings as well as his ability to and Then there's otani who is a unicorn. What what are your thoughts on these two guys and and what we can expect of them not just this year but but long term what do you think yeah. I make no bones about it. I did pick up the brown. Two grams debut mobile network when he when you come up tastes the yankees. And i've been to make some kind of outrageous statements that don't by the way turn into too many outrageous statements. They ended up being kind of in line. With how i think in my opinion but i said he'd be the best pitcher. The mets have ever seen When he made his debut. That's how much. I fell in love with the guy that i thought could mature into one of the best and he is the most dominant pitcher that seen in maybe ever and so that being said if he stays healthy of course. Mets are always in the conversation. Oh you don't wanna play the match. They get to the postseason and stay healthy. Having said that. I'm gonna give you another outrageous statement about otani. Otani is special player that you know. I think everyone's grueling four but the reality of how much longer can this not take away from each great talent that he has. I will say this about otani. And again when i saw him. You know come into the league. I didn't think he could stay healthy at the beginning because the task he was trying to pull off monuments all time on both sides both from a pitching side and from hitting side combined. The both and he's had the super kind of freakish athlete. That i hope we continue to see but he if all he did was pitch he would be on the trails. Alba jacob degrom. He's that good. He has that kind of stuff that he has wipe out. Dominant number one. Ace stuff that. That's the angels. Need that so bad. So hypothetically if they got to the postseason and you had to pick and choose what's the greatest asset for club based on their pitching he's the greatest asset is his pitching ability. He had no to get no hitter stuff yesterday. But the ability to kind of hit and take away some energy from doing both at a high level you could tell he was tired. You could tell he would be drained and yes offensively. He didn't do as well that game. But that's my point like you have this unbelievable talent. But his arm for me is so unique that i don't know he'll he'll be given the opportunity to reach that level because of the dual job that that you know. He enjoys doing their showcase his reaction to get checked. He seemed like enjoy it. You know it was just like okay him and degrom to they're like okay. Sure you know most of what everybody knows is coming. So you know i look. I'll be shocked if things come down and change and people go back to it but you never know anymore Shocked we still have pd failures. But i i liked the direction of of how everyone's handling it. We had an isolated situation that you talked about. I don't think we'll see many more of those and You know we're headed towards the all star games showcase some incredible talent but man shohei homerun derby yet. You know like the fact that that you know how i feel. I think pitchers are the best athletes anyways. Just finally coming around to people get the chance to see. Let you go on the subject to the good stuff here. How pleasant An enjoyable and intense as the nl western into here. How fun is that sad. Look i if. I'm if i'm in that giants locker room. I'm having the time my life having everybody in the world like myself talk about the padres and the dodgers. I would just kinda of the along here under the radar. They've been fantastic. I really thought the west before the year started had a chance to get to wall cartoons did know what that would be based on the bottom. Half of the west typically is not an in wasn't going to be you know listen space it arizona's having a rough year and followed and transition. So it's going to be a fun. We keep calling it who headed race but man great job in san francisco for not just caving to what everybody thought about your ball club being and not having a chance and by the way. Just got the best record in the national league so kudos to giants and catholic than i love. I just love the gamers at the padres are two and full disclosure. I'm having jake cronin worth on tomorrow. not only because he's a hot hitter. I know why i'm having him on tomorrow. I hear you. I knew you'd get a kick out of that. John congrats again on the emmy award is so deserved. You make me smarter every time i listen to you and buck and then obviously you with mlb and calling into the show. That's a fact. I appreciate it appreciate it. Thank you got it right back at you. That's john smoltz. Baseball hall of famer.

"If too many home runs or excuse me too many No hitters bad for game you know with bad for the game. I know i sound like a broken record for the longest. You know what's bad for the game. Five three and a half hour baseball games three and a half four hour nine inning baseball games. You know what's bad for the games having to nothing baseball game where both teams combined to have eleven pitchers to starters one starter for one team one starter for the other team within each team coming in with three or four bullpen guys early to law school like me now for the new school. Maybe it's no big deal. But kevin kelly style baseball. That's no good for the game. That's bad for the game but russa introduced it when he was with the saint. Louis cardinals and now. We've seen kevin kelly of the tampa bay rays taken to a whole new level to level of absurdity along with the oakland a few years ago i remember when they started a playoff game. I don't know art. I forgot who the manager but the starting pitcher went two innings. And then after that it would reliever reliever reliever reliever reliever i mean. Come on. y'all really. I mean that's bad for the game. What are the best baseball games. I've ever seen have involved low scoring games. Games were teams. Aren't getting hips game. Seven of the nineteen eighty seven eighty eight ninety one africa playoff game world but game seven between the minnesota twins and the atlanta braves. And you had jack morris going the complete way tailings. Ten innings against john smoltz. That was one of the best baseball games. I've ever seen a regular season game at yankee stadium. Where you had pedro martinez was boston versus the new york yankees and you had pedro martinez going up against roger clemens. I patriot one. Eight or nine innings. I don't know if he had complete game. But i know he was damn close to it but He pitched a gym over clements and a game where boston two to nothing. That was awesome game to watch the no hitter thing. That really doesn't bother me. The fact of who they know hillary. That really doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the pace of the play. What bothers me. It's the lack of rhythm to the game bothers. Me is the fact that the scene that major league baseball wants to take every ounce of fun and excitement and enthusiasm out of the soul of the players to whenever they do something spectacular anytime. We do something great anytime. They hit a monstrous run. Anytime they make a fabulous player play the old scores. The the the guy from the old school wants you to not show any emotion at all. Those are some of the things i think are hurting the game. More than anything was not so much of no hitters. Yes no hitters. Is something worse like one or two a year. that's awesome. that's unbelievable. You have someone. Like max scherzer. You have someone like jacob degrom you have someone like cole hamels local handles you have someone like a garrett cole. You have some picture of that quality of that ilk doing a no hitter. Yes that's exciting. that's awesome. That's interesting leading sportscenter. That's news that's all those things and anytime the the historical unbelievable achievement of throwing a no hitter or a complete game all of a sudden becomes diminished. It takes away from major league baseball. It takes away from the excitement. It takes away from a way to to Put the game out the folks at the bad way in terms of the baseball trying to promote the sport so on one hand i get what they're saying but you know when you have battered up there. Swimming for home runs all the time. The league hitting two thirty six this season. Which would be the lowest batting average in.
