"Boxer show. NewsRadio 6 10 W T V N 7000 this I heard that Amazon is close to launching its own brand of smart TVs. Yeah, they're pretty cool. You watch the T. V. And since it's Amazon, the TV watches you. That's right. 7 36 a NewsRadio 6 10 W. T V end. It's branded boxer John Quane standing by. I just seconds away. Also looking ahead. Matt McCoy and the countdown to the Buckeyes. The Bucks and the Ducks. He has Yes. Duck hunting season has officially arrived here, so we'll talk with Matt in about 10 minutes. You're on. 6 10 W TPM right now, though, on the legacy retirement group dot com phone line we welcome back, Mr John Quyen. How you doing? Good morning, sir. Good morning. Good morning, So I'm going to bring up something that is an eye opener, and we've been hearing about this for weeks for months. I feel like we've been talking about this since January or February where we were giving a heads up on. On cars and auto chips, but we're starting to find and depending on the expert, you lean on the most John Queen. This chip shortage is not just nationally. It's a global chip shortage, and it's affecting more than just cars in PCs, and it sounds like it's going to be with us well into even 2022 2023. Yes, it's not something you can fix right away. But you know A, uh some of us have known about this issue for many years. It's been a growing problem for Maybe 20 years because people were trying to not make these big plants they call them fabrication plants that make the micro processes an integrated circuits. These chips that go into everything from TVs to now, even you know, the faucet in your kitchen has a microprocessor, so everything uses these cars extensively used. Microprocessors and use electronic components, so they're being hit the most because they also thought well, there's a pandemic. Nobody's going to want to buy a car, so they canceled some of their orders early on in the pandemic, and, of course, People wanted more cars than ever because they were avoiding public transportation. The sales actually went up, and then they scrambled to try and get the chips and now what's happening is they're shuttering some of the plants. Everybody from Toyota, which is saying they're not going to make about 405 100,000 cars less Yeah. This year, GM has shuttered some plants already enclosed them down. Other manufacturers. I talked to say, Look, we're making the car and rolling it off the line than parking it because we're waiting for the chips that we need to finish making the car, so it's gotten that bad. Televisions. I review lots of televisions as well. I just noticed a few weeks ago. Prices are going up there going up by 10 20% on TVs that never happened before, never happened before. And again it comes down to the supply of the chips. All those components in the TVs Well, John Quinn are checker is with us. And this extends in you touched on it a little bit already. You know TVs, Uh, computer is obviously the automobiles to but microchips. If you think about it are so ubiquitous that you they they're in our everyday lives there. Think of all the the household items to just all the different things that we use them for that adding to the stress and the supply chain you have. I just read. I think it was yesterday. Manufacturers don't want to build new factories or increased production at existing once worrying that well, we might incur may be dead or the unsold product once the supply chain returns to normal, so it sounds like for those factories that are up and running with the microchips. They have an increased productivity at all. Well know, And these are also, you know, this is intellectual property that you share with a plant that makes these trips is another issue. So you don't want anybody just anybody making these chips for you, if you if you got the design, that's one of the issues, but you know, going back at least 20 years ago, they thought, well, you know what nobody's going to want to make. These plants are expensive. Nobody wants them in their backyard, You know? Will ship them off to other countries. Other places where they can build these plants, and it'll just become a standard sort of thing. Well, of course, chips got more and more complicated. It's not Just a regular thing that you can start up right away. So that's another reason you can't just fix the problem right away. It's going to take a long time to build the plants necessary to create the chips that we need. It's funny. You talk about plants, John. But what about all these warehouses were seen from Amazon? No one seems to have an issue with that. Like, Well, they're kind of low profile. You know, the trucks go in and out there rather quiet. They don't use water and a lot of power in the kinds of things that a big factory of fab plant needs. And space. But on the other hand, you know, fabrication plants for these chips are used very sophisticated workforce. Yeah, expert workforce so they're good jobs. To have so now. That's why there's talk with the new administration, you know, saying, Okay, we need to invest the money, but it won't. It won't be a quick turnaround. You know, it's not some that's going to happen in an instant. Hey, John, in the future, learning from this issue, will history show that maybe companies Could invest in their own, you know, and I realized there's copyrights. There's intellectual property rights but could accompany make their you know, provide their own ship companies could they buy a ship company? Well, A lot of them are now talking about making their own chips. But when you hear about that, you know Apple or Google, saying they're going to make their own chips. What they really mean is they have their own design for the chips. They're not actually making the the physical microprocessors or ices, so there is still hiring it out to somebody else. Yeah, it's difficult. The economics of it like making, you know, T shirts and shoes and other things. Yeah, it's become a global things someplace can make it cheaper than we can, and that's what happens. Sure, Let's move on John quaint. Our tech gurus with us, said John, We're getting ready. I I wanted to ask you about this because by the time we talk, and I'm sure we'll hit it again next Wednesday, Uh, the the Apple hosting event will already have happened. But can you what? Our appetite with what we can expect for next Tuesday with the iPhone, 13 and other hardware I wonder if they're actually going to call it the iPhone 13, don't you? I mean, oh, good. 130.13. I didn't think about that..

In Florida Just before the Super Bowl. Someone was able to hack in and change some of the water supply ingredients. If you will, they're basically they tried to poison the water supply by adding an extra amount of sodium hydroxide a dangerous amount by the way. "Instagram Twitter at the Boxer Show in standing by our good buddy John Quyen, our resident tech guru. This facial recognition stuff that you know your your face being used by scanners. We're going to get into the game stops stuff, too, with John in just a few seconds here, some of the stuff that's buzzing this morning the Biden administration announcing that they will be distributing vaccine doses directly to retail pharmacies. Soon. So CBS, for example, Walgreens will be providing the limited number of Vaccinations across 15 states begin a Walgreens, though kind of dropping the ball up in northeast Ohio. Some of those Ohio nursing home residents need to be re vaccinated after improper storage found while Vagina is room temperature. Fizer, as you probably know, is a very, very cold temp that it needs to be stored and it can't Can't say you have to look at it like and I think I forgot who was But it was a great analogy. It's like ice cream. You can't let it sit out very long because it'll melt. And then who wants to? Who wants to have soup for ice cream? I know I don't It won't do you any good. The good news. It certainly won't harm your body. In the battle against Cove ID to viewpoint covert cases in hospital admits admissions to continue to decline nationally and along with that, what's the other one? That is big buzzing this morning? Jeff Bezos, one of the really mean the founder, CEO of probably the most powerful companies in the world, one of them Stepping down is the CEO and that might be a good place to start with John Queen this morning, John were you surprised to see that Jeff Bezos is stepping down from Amazon after what 26 years of founding the company? I was. I think I was taken by surprise like everybody else. I mean, here it is. The company is just, you know, $100 billion quarter. It's just rocking and rolling during the pandemic. Of course, everybody is using Amazon. And ordering things through Amazon, So it is sort of at its peak. But and maybe that's why he thought that's a good time to step aside. I'm not sure but Wow, I was surprised. Yes, you know, John, quite with us, our resident guru every Wednesday at this time of news ready of 6 10 W TV and other branded boxer show While Amazon certainly is not perfect. You know, I saw in the interview he did with Peter Jennings back in 1999 overnight as I was preparing for the show this morning, and I found it fascinating because He was all about customer service. And I really believe that that's probably one of the secret sauce is the keys to success for Amazon for all these years, is that it's been customer service. It is, and it's also cut. He's one of the few people in in the tech world who does understand changes as they come along. I mean, most people are kind of they have one or two ideas. And and that's about it, and they're great at that was one or two ideas. But as things have changed, Jeff has changed along with them. He sees music streaming service is a big he goes into that he sees the Netflix is doing well. He goes into streaming video and sees that that's a new trend. I mean, every new movement that's come along. He's joined it Amazon and sort of taken over that. They're now into prescription drugs, and they're getting into health care. I mean, they're getting into delivery systems and autonomous self driving vehicles as well to deliver their goods to us during the pandemic. They just boosted their infrastructure to to deliver the things to people so that we still got our packages, which was kind of amazing If you think about how many things work at the start of the pandemic, Amazon still did. I mean, and he's got a space project, You know, blue origin. Maybe that's what he's going to focus on more now going forward, but just kind of amazing how much stuff the guy has done in a few years. If I'm Jeff basis at this point, I am trying to find a way to figure out how to destroy porch pirates. I am, And that's that's the next thing on my list. I'm finding a way to destroy you. Maybe we can have stormtroopers jump out of these boxes and destroy these people trying to steal these customers boxes anyway. Well, that's interesting, too, because of all the things he's just rolled with the punches. AWS is the last check. AWS was really funding. Ah, lot of these other projects. Right, John, Right. I mean, that's where they're making a lot of the money. We don't really see it as regular consumers. It's not a front facing kind of technology, but it is behind the scenes running so many sort of day to finish for people. It's If you think about it's kind of like data centers and software. The service all sort of wrapped up into one. So if you want to start a business and you need a back end of scale up to handle customers, you would go to a W s. If you want to work with other companies because they're using AWS, which is Amazon Web services you're going with them is well, I mean, they kind of run everything now, and it's scary how much they run, so The guy who runs that part of the business is actually the one who's going to step into bays, asses shoes for years to come. You think Ava's so it'll be okay with Jeff Base of stepping down I think so. But it is interesting you need somebody at the company is willing to change you know, and as and see new trends that they come along and adopt and jump into those new trends. That's the kind of person you need. And I don't know if the first feeling is the right person or not, but we'll see. I mean, it's it's been a pretty impressive run Somebody okay? That's a lot of pressure to fill those shoes. That's for sure. John Queen Tech crew with us this morning that news ready or 16 W T V, and how many people have had their face used by scanners at this point more than we probably realized maybe our own. Million's. I mean, you know, certainly hundreds of thousands and millions of people because what what happened with AI is, researchers were trying to use facial recognition and make it better was, they said it Sort of hoovering up, vacuuming up all these photos online that they could and running them through a machine learning program to teach the program how to recognize different faces that they were doing and from a researcher's point of view, they thought a. It's just out there on the Internet. Why not? In fact, some universities gather tens of thousands of photographs? Together and built these giant databases of photos that other companies could then download and used to do exactly that. The University of Washington did that, for example, a few years ago and then those programs, though, that those photos were downloaded by the likes of The CIA and Chinese surveillance companies. They were using these photographs to train their own programs. See, I'll be honest. It sounds very creepy, incredibly creepy, but I'm a gen Xer somebody. Maybe. That's why, however, at the same time as a father of two young boys who love their ipads and You know, I don't want them to, you know, get into crazy things, or, you know, started spending spree. I kind of like that that they can't get into stuff unless they get my facial recognition. So I I liked it. You know, it's a safeguard. It is, you know, but they make mistakes. Those programs make a lot of mistakes. More mistakes than anybody is really, really willing to admit so that you know if you're using them for long force that they could grab the wrong person so and then to think that well, my photograph is one person put it. Their wedding photos used on flicker were used for programs. In China to suppress what are perceived as dissidents there so they could be used for some kind of terrible things that you don't want your photos to be used for, so definitely a creepy aspect of that. And there are some laws people go, whether well, there should be a law There are some laws like Illinois has a lot of you can't you sort of biometric things like that without your permission. When I looked at that, I thought, Yeah, but I've probably signed how money aps and said, Yeah, I agree to the terms and whatever, and probably agreed with somewhere you lot. I agree. You really should read those terms. They're crazy. And for my son's thank goodness. They look like their mother, too. With the facial recognition real quick with game Stop, John. What a phenomenon. This has been Right. I was just I was checking my priceless Scott..

"Boxers, shots or show use radios. 6 10 W TV end. Well good morning and hope you're doing well this morning. Good news. It's almost Friday, Expecting some mom Snow this weekend here in central Ohio, 2 to 4 inches. Saturday night into Sunday morning, but you know, let's save that for tomorrow. Let's just enjoy what we have today. Conversation with John Queen, our tech guru coming up in just a few seconds here. Also just things that are going on in and around town. A zip yesterday was made official with Governor Mike DeWine. That covert curfew has now been shortened by an hour. Yes. Curfew will started 11 o'clock tonight. Hospitalizations and those numbers continue to stay below 3500 for the next seven days. Well, that happened already. So now we're gunning it for with 3000 next seven days, and it'll go till midnight conduce that for another two weeks well, hopefully completely destroy this curfew and out of tow worry about it anymore. Also, the CDC expecting coronavirus deaths in the U. S to continue to rise. Over the next few weeks and President Biden signing an executive order with yesterday with climate change. It has a lot of people up in arms. Some of the stuff you've already heard about with Keystone will have that shortly after our conversation with John Quyen, our tech who was speaking up President Biden. He apparently did You hear the breaking news? He's keeping the dicho button. That's weird. You need good for him, right? It's not good for him. He should be. You know, maybe an orange juice button or something like that. I know what you're thinking. You had to toss me that story. Let's go first, cause I can't wait to get to the alien story on it seems pretty legit. But what? What's this? With the A. T T. I have always wondered this with some employees that just ate ET. But the story about the 80 detect who was caught spying and customers. Right? I mean, this is the cautionary tale. All of us are many of us now, especially over the pandemic of installed sort of smart home security systems with cameras and we've had many camps for years and things like that. That we tap into unusually usually goes refused from We weren't home, right? We'll check it up. Now we're all home, but at any rate This 80 T technician in Dallas, Texas. Just plug guilty earlier this week, he being tapping into about 220 different customer feeds live on their video feeds. For over four years. Oh, yeah. Watching people have sex watching people undress. So you know, it's not a perfect system, no matter what security they put in if somebody's behind that camera tapping into it. You should be aware of that. That's always a possibility. So don't put the cameras in places where you may be private, like the bedroom or places like that. That's all he could tell people about that story. I think so. John John Quaid with this our tech guru with NewsRadio, 16 W TV, and there's no way this dude had cable. I mean, he had all the entertainment he needed. Apparently he did four years. I mean, that's a long time on D was simply put his email in so that he could access their feet. That's what he did. And it was a straightforward of that, Um, you know, I'm very conscious of it. I always test cameras, but I'm always very well aware of where I placed them as well. You hear stories about that all the time. You never think it's gonna happen to you, but, yeah, first thing Don't ever think it's not gonna happen to your right right and it could happen. Any system, no matter how secure the company thinks it's made it or says they've made the system inevitably they could be hacked a broken into. So just be aware of that. All right, Let's get to the aliens. It am I pronouncing this right? Oh, Mula, Oma Wawa. How do you pronounce that Good Lord? It's a Norwegian. It's a Hawaiian word that basically translates to scout because the observatory that first saw this object is in Hawaii. It's O mua mua. Oh, well, I just I just Had to practice it. I admit it. I had to practice saying it. I see it with us. Oh, move right. Okay. It was discovered. It's the first. Interstellar object. That is a no object that came from outside of our solar system going through our solar system that was ever detected. They're probably being others, but it's the first one that astronomers saw and they thought about three years ago. It's a story now because this Harvard astrophysicist has just published a book this week, right? They're talking about. It's called extraterrestrial because the theory is this object was a probe or a ship or some device from some extraterrestrial. Society. Civilization. What have you so That's the idea? So too, for those that are like what? What are you talking about? Is an astrophysicist from Harvard. And use mention a couple years ago. So what? November 2017? There was an object that passed by our planet that was unlike anything astronomers have ever seen, and it was spotted in Hawaii, which Probably were the name come from right all MoMA. Okay, but it moved too fast for to have come from our solar system. Is that the understanding that's one issue it was on its way out of the solar system before it was even detected And it was going about sport four times faster, more than four times faster than other things like comets or asteroids. Passing through Go, So that was one issue. The other issue is it's sped up as it left. That's not a thing in terms of asteroids. You know, they don't speed up and slow down a little bit for gravitational forces, but basically they can monitor this speed. This was unusual..

"Head into the holidays. Tech is always on everybody's mind and we bring in our tech guru John Quyen and jump All kinds of weird things happening out in the cyber world right now, isn't there there is there is so as we're all sort of doing our last minute G can it get delivered in time by Christmas Eve? People are out there still hacking away trying to break into sites that still like an ongoing story right now. S So what exactly is this hack that we've heard? I mean, I've heard about it. I read a little bit about it. But honestly, I don't know much about it. It does sound. It sounds like something out of a cyber spy novel or cyberpunk novel but actually is un ongoing thing. This group in Russia, part of the Russian espionage group. Has hacked into something, but it happened back in the spring, and we're just finding out about it now and why people are kind of more. The upset about it than normal is not only did they get into some government servers that there's some issues about that, Ah lot of businesses, but it's the way that they got in and they went through what we call cloud services. So a lot of the things that we do Shopping from clinical trials and health care are all using what are called cloud services and so breaking into something like that means you can get access to a lot more than you normally could just by breaking into one site. Get cloud services, and I do know a little bit about that. Like Amazon and Microsoft. They all have these versions of things that are in the cloud per se, but that's usually some really highly secure. Stuff. It is it's supposed to be. That's the idea. You know, Aws is the name of the Amazon one, and people might have seen that when they see a tagged in the attack story, and it's used by a lot of people. But years ago when, when they first started at Amazon, people were using Amazon services criminals were using it to actually break in the other computer systems because it had so much power. They were using that hacking and using fake credit cards to break into other servers. So they've been doing this for a long time. In this case, you know, people have heard about solar winds of the name of companies that some networking software and then it was used to get into Microsoft as your system and office 3 65, and I bet there's a lot of people listening to go. Hey, I use office 3 65. Well, they completely got breached. And so that's why people are still trying to figure out G who did get hack and what's the extent of the Damage here. And what kind of information is been stolen. Wow, Tomo to say the least speaking with our tech guru, John Quyen and Apple has they want to get into everything, don't they? Now they're going to go into the electric car business right there. These these rumors pop up and people love this rumor about Apple that it's gonna Actually making Apple car. That's the idea Now. A few years ago you had six years ago. It's this sort of started with Apple's going to come up with an autonomous vehicle. And, of course, Google has been working out on the thymus vehicle Waymo that company from Google for years, they're probably the most advanced the idea that Apple would do this people pictured you that was sort of a rolling iPhone, but they've never really made much headway in that space. And so now, the latest rumor is that in a few years, Apple will come up with an electric car still gonna be in a ton of this car, But you noticed how people have changed. The more incident, the electric park now than the autonomous part. That's the That's the rumor, and that's what the according to Reuters report, and some other sources that Apple is playing this evey Well, it certainly wouldn't surprise me if if they do that, because, man, they just they get into everything. One last thing, and CS is the big consumer electronic show where we get to see all the new stuff. Normally, everybody is they're together. They're going virtual this year, aren't they? They are. It's been a strange the last couple of weeks or so. Those of us that cover technology, etc. Yes, I mean, I've gone to it for years, and the only time I skipped it was the year after 9 11. S Oh, it's going to be strange not going to Las Vegas in January for a lot of us. But those companies were doing virtual press briefings, you know, doing zoom presentations and streaming presentations and taking questions from us and they've done a lot of that already. We're not allowed to say until the middle of January what some of the new announcements will be Yeah, it's going to be strange, and it's hard to picture you know, 170,000 Plus people usually shop, etc. Yes, in Vegas doing that online, Not the same thing at all. No, I can't even imagine Don't get to talk with everybody and seeing all the cool stuff behind the scenes, do you Right or the party's gonna miss all of that. See, I didn't even think of that aspect of it. Junk. Wait our tech guru. Thank you for joining us this morning, and that Mary Christmas have a very merry Christmas and a happy New year. "It is great to have you back with us this morning. 7 37 Brandon Boxer on Social Anytime, Twitter Instagram. It is at the boxer show and coming up in just a few seconds here, our resident tech guru John Quyen on Facebook's new oversight board and how to stop online scams right now, because if there is any time of the year where they're big, and people have issues It is this time of the year look out for some icy spots this morning. Otherwise son for the most part today will get to about 40 overnight breaking news, the U. K becoming the first Western country Who proved widespread use of the covert 19 vaccine, which was developed over they're easier to get to but from visor, according to the British government. Also, the CDC shortening the time someone needs to quarantine if they're exposed to covert 19 that goes from 14 to 10 at Ohio State, unlocking the doors of the Woody Hayes facility yesterday, they're returned to practice after a pause, forcing Forced by a covert 19. That's a major step Fingers crossed that will be able to play Michigan State's on the road Saturday. 7 38 and we walk of John Queen right now, our tech guru every week. Big big story from yesterday. John right off the bat. Talk about Facebook's oversight board. This is to really if anything else this is to cut down and all the unnecessary pieces that air Considered toxic and false, right? That's true, and it's also to cover things that are important to people. You know, whenever you put in a rule, there are always exceptions. And some of this is like, for example, hate speech where it got banned because it was flagged as being hate speech. But it turns out it was somebody crowding somebody to point out that it was wrong. So you how do you handle cases like that They have an independent board. Independently, splendid about 20 people in it Right now. They comprise law professors from around the world journalists from India, Taiwan, the United States, so those people are looking at about six cases right now. Good clean tech crew with us this morning and every week on NewsRadio 16 w. T. V, and it sounds like a fair and balanced board Oversight board. John some of the six cases can can you talk about just a couple of those cases that are being looked at right now? Sure. Well, there's what one is a covert 19 case. It's from France. It involved criticism of the government's handling of covert 19. In particular, I dropped the core queen, You know that it would turned out to be actually super dangerous for people to take and you know, caused heart attacks and our conditions and things like that. So somebody criticized that No and so that information got taken off of Facebook because it's potentially dangerous for people to get this information. Specifically about something like that. So that is up for you know, a request to take a look at it from the use of the people have posted that in their group. I'm sure there are lots of other cases like that. You know that or they're similar on but you might consider to be dangerous. There are a lot of protein Malaysian politician who said some You know, insightful things inciting violence against French people that was taken down as well. That's another case they're gonna look at, you know, every day goes through. A lot of this automatically just strips out photographs, images, stories, things like that that are conservative violated policy. Some of it It's a hyper violent, terrible, terrible stuff You don't want to see. And then there are also human beings who look at it on daily, you know, hourly basis and some of those people, you know, I have a lot of trouble ass. They're doing that job for a while, almost like post traumatic stress disorder because some of the stuff that people try to put on lightest is pretty awful. So, you know, Facebook has already doing a fair amount on its own. But this is sort of a new independent oversight boards, looking some of the most important cases. That's why this is just six cases right now that were announced 20,000 cases since it opened its doors in October that that's absolutely incredible of a lot of time being spent on if you're going to go through all those 20,000 cases. But, John, Have you heard it? Will there be accountability for someone? Who Because we've seen people's lives? We've seen businesses be destroyed. Sadly, some for no reason. Will there be some type of accountability held here? More so than just well, you can't use Facebook anymore. You know, there won't be there won't be any any punitive for damages those air legal issue that someone would have to raise outside of this fear of social media. Unfortunately, you know, goes different ways. You know, I've seen businesses on yelp. Somebody didn't like a meal that they got in a restaurant. The restaurant goes and sues the truth through, you know, and that person's the Person's life is ruined, who just had a bad meal, So it works both ways. It's a very difficult thing to monitor and you know, we know about it because our business that you know, being in media already is. We're subject to certain rules and regulations. So you know, we know what that's like, But this is due to the social media realm, and they're dealing with volume. That's way beyond what we do in radio TV and in newspapers. I'm glad you brought that up. There are seven words I'm not allowed to say. The air radio TV. We are regulated by the FCC. Does social Media do sites like the Facebooks? The Twitters? Uh, dare I say now, even the very popular Tic tac should they be regulated eventually by the FCC, Mark Zuckerberg seems to believe that few months ago Yeah, I think that that is coming. I mean, that is something that I think both sides of the political aisle agree should happen for different reasons because they both feel like things aren't fair out there in the social media landscape for other side, so they think that is something that's going to come along. It's going to be expensive. I mean, one of the things about social media is some of this terrible stuff that gets our life attracts a lot of attention. Gets a lot of attention. That means great advertising, dollars and money, so there's a disincentive for them to take it off line. But I think that regulation is coming. It's just gonna have to Real quick. It's a very popular well, not just a popular time of the year to be shopping but record breaking for Black Friday. Cyber Monday we've already heard, but we need to be careful of cyber scams. John Yes, one of the things I've started to see our emails to me that say, Hey, you know your personal information at your blank bank has bean access. Do we want to just make sure that everything's secure and they use the logo's Everything looks perfect. I've looked side by side at the e mails. They look almost identical. Sometimes is a little thing. If you look in the details of the return address is something you'll see something just I want to work. You will be careful of these kind of we call them fishing attached to they looks very specific to you. Don't click on anything in these emails. Go to your bank's website, open another browser window or even better Another browser, go to your bank's website and see if there's actually a message for you. Same thing for anything you subscribe to on deregulation back up and set restore point. I know everybody is distracted, and we've got other things to do. But there's actually good advice in this time of year. Excellent use reputable Web sites, of course for shopping. Job before you go. The most important question I have for you. Did you score a PS five? I did not. Actually, you know, that's being scammed. Ah, lot were related to that p s five. Right? PlayStation? It's amazing. All right, so popular it is so be careful out there. Careful If you get your hands on one, you better tell me. Oh, all right, John boy and have a great week. Thank you. Take care. Appreciated. 7 45 Radio 6 10 Tell the new TV end Sports..

"Tech guru is coming up here and just a few seconds three things to know. Before you go this morning with Brandon Boxers, Sunshine will get to 44 today Chile overnight, But the wind will be back tomorrow. He at least it'll be warmer. Though the big bus story this morning. What's trending Governor Mike DeWine opposing that statewide curfew to help stem the spread of coronavirus? Here's what we know. Starting tomorrow. 10 P.m. to 5 A.m. for the next 21 days. Starting tomorrow that curfew will go into effect. Last seen three weeks. Governor DeWine says it's about cutting down on the number of people each Ohio and comes into contact with. In order to slow the spread of coronavirus. All three of central Ohio's major hospital systems are reinstituting that no visitor policy to stop the spread of Corona virus and we knew this was probably coming. We've been hearing about this for the last couple of weeks, WalMart yesterday and the CEO and an earnings call Saying that some stores are having trouble keeping cleaning supplies and toilet paper in stock. Buy what you need. Not for the Apocalypse at 7 37. We are joined at the sea bus home improvement dot com phone line right now with John Quyen, Our tech guru. Good morning, John. Morning. How you doing? I'm great. I want to get to a story that was headlined yesterday. Facebook and Twitter took a lot of heat over this hunter Biden story during this hearing with Jack Dorsey from Twitter. Facebook CEO Mark Sucker. Berg would testify and yesterday Twitter blocking for those that don't know Twitter blocked the sharing of an article about a laptop and emails that was said to belong to Hunter Bidet. It seems like Facebook and Twitter. At this point, some of these tech giants are getting a hall pass. On what they can do with censorship shot. Much more than that, even it so they could sort of publish whatever they want, because they're not to blame for anything. The police the idea here is this. You know they're just online condo with the website. If you will, where this stuff is published, they're not the people actually publishing it. They're just they're conduit for that. That has been the premise, which they started. But remember, first book was started. As you know who's hot on campus vacation and Twitter was just started 140 characters as a joke. It's sort of like, Hey, what's up? You know that's what it was started by Southwest, Not a big deal. These were not serious platforms. Now it's become years later, a serious platform and now you know, they're really become media outlets. So they should the argument goes be subject to the same rules that the New York Times is or the radio station, right do is right. You can't just say anything you want and you can't just publish anything you want. You need to be responsible for what you do put over there, But it's women. They're not. They're sort of exempt from all that. So you know, they got it from both sides. Democratic people said, you know, politicians said, Hey, you're not doing enough to stop this hate stuff. Russian spies were on it. No question about it, you know, And then people putting out false information about the virus. That's all bad. He didn't do anything about it. Then the Republican people said, Hey, you scratch some conservative point of view, you know, So you had these different people complaining about Different things, but for the same reason, right, John Quaint Tech guru on NewsRadio, 16 W T. V. And with us this morning, John, you write about this all the time that you write about technology. Do you see a future where this You know, these technology companies like Twitter and Facebook could be regulated under the same guidelines is like W. TVN, for example, under the FCC. I think that's coming. I think that's exactly what's coming that they're gonna be treated much more like we are treated on the air, you know, but it's not really about you know, from their point of view, it's not about politics. Your it's about. It's about money, of course. Course you know Dorsey, who's you know it started Twitter. He actually said. He said, This is a quote a centralized global content. Moderation system does not scale and what he means is having a bunch of people check things that are posted online and look for things that take things off their false or defamatory or attack. Other people are threatened them. That's expensive, you know, and I don't want to spend the money doing that. But I think eventually those regulations to come because you've got yeah, they said the Republicans and Democrats I sort of agree on this for different reasons, but they both agree. Something should be done to rain. Some of this in exactly Jack Dorsey. Don't hate the player hate the game and you're about to join it. P s five. I gotta tell you, I went home the other day, John and my wife said to me. I hope the kids aren't listening. But she said to me, you have a mission Thanksgiving evening. I said, What's that? She said. You need to stand in line overnight. She could get your hands on one of those PS fives because, as you probably know, John They are going for double triple the price on eBay right now. So any suggestions? The PS five has to be the hottest gift for Christmas. You know, it is one of those hot gifts, unfortunately, is a little like the Cabbage Patch dolls. I think I'm dating myself there. But you know what s so rationally? Do you need a PS five? Right now? The answer is no. Because most of the games don't take it advantage of Ever. The new abilities. Look, Is it a better player? Absolutely. It's bigger and tears. You're gonna need some extra space. Forward it several inches won't fit underneath the TV. And it's about $500 for the one that has the optical drive in it, Which is the one I recommend, because with that disk drive in that you can actually play some of the older games in it for now, And if you finding used games and stuff you can use it $400 to get you the one that doesn't have the drive The optical drive, just drive. That's just for online gaming. But still, I mean, it's better graphics absolutely much more powerful CPU absolutely much quicker to start up, which takes forever when I turn mine on my PS four s. Oh, it's better than PS four. Definitely. But the games will not take advantage of it. Until who several months in the next year, And then it's gonna be slow trickle of games at that. So do you need it right now? No. But when the kids want something like this bad kind of stuck his apparent can we bring from Anger in the Oregon Trail back, That's what you wish so alive, But you're not gonna get the fancy graphics like they have Ray tracing right now, That's gonna be in these new games. That looks super cool cooler than Frogger. Right? Hey, just to clarify real quick and I apologize, but have a big techie nerd, John. There's two versions of the PS five. You recommend, the more expensive one. Is that right? That's right. I do I do. You know, I was hard to get this player like even if you buy a car, it's hard to get a CD player in a car these days. I still play CDs, so I think the same goes for the gaming consoles, You know? Look, it's a great way with the woman that optical driving and play blue ray discs and movies. If you have those around the house, too, and I still do, most of us, you know, have kept up has still have some laying around. So it's great for that. And again. As I said, if you have used games or older games that you want to play in your new PS five, which Probably will. It's great to have that destroyed the optical. Just drive in there like I still have cassette tapes. My Children are like Dad, What are these? Oh, they're the best guys. They're the best anyway. Well, we'll wrap over that, John. Quite thanks for your time this morning. Get all right. John Queen, our tech guru and NewsRadio, 16 W T V and 7 43 radio 6 10. W TV END SPORTS This park I updated service..

"Coming up next week, and Apple's iPhone 12 event happened in the same time, are they They are. You know, the prime days are actually two days now. It's such a big event. The October the 13th and 14th. So after Columbus Day weekend, you know, after the holiday and and also everybody else is trying to take you back. I saw the target also has Big sale event to going on online. So it's once people start to see people buy online. They're like we've got to jump on this wagon again on it, but But there are some great deals out there. So you know if you've been thinking about some things there are going to be good deals on the 13th. You already know what they are. Yeah. I mean, they started to leak some in advance. You know, you can wait till the last minute. But they're already things like from frying pans to TVs that are already listed. And we know that they're going to be on sale. Come the 13th and 14th. What you could do is you know they generate a lot of sails. Give you an example over 100,000 laptops over 200,000 TVs. A million headphones sold last time today's sale. That's how crazy it is that you can expect things like TVs and laptops and a lot of gadgets for sale, especially Amazons own products. So the echo dot You know the little smart speakers. They're basically going for half price. You can get two of them for about $40 usually $40 each. There's a TV that actually happened to be looking at. Right now. There's a Toshiba TV that's going to be for sale. And it's $100 off. It's a 43 inch HDTV. It's $180. I mean their sales like that. So this amazing things to be available. Yeah, that's you know, I get the TV thing. I understand. I watch so little television anymore. I wouldn't care if I have had to pay with shipping. I'm probably not buying a TV. Right? I mean, most of people now after this six months, so they've probably got their TVs and you know, like any sale only buy things we already planned to do. You know you could get swept up in it. You go. Wow. That's a great price. I've got to get that giant barbecue and then realize I don't have anyplace to put it. So, you know, you just look for things you need. If you're trying to get a laptop, you know you're gonna upgrade something like that, Then it's a good time to go there. Some of the companies had told me their laptops. They're going to be for sale on this day as well. I can't tell you because I promised not to realize. But let me tell you something. These deals are laptops, for example, be available. And if you're an apple fan, Yeah, there's some iPad models where you get $50 off on an 809 $100 iPad. And you know, something at least doesn't happen very often. So you mentioned target some other entities also going to be doing some discounts and big deals and big push on line and all that will be the kind of thing John right. I should consider pinging between the two. Like if I'm looking at a specific laptop or specific TV or no specific set of headphones or whatever. Should I ping through him all to see who's got the best deal or do you think that's all going to be pretty close? I think they'll be pretty. They're usually pretty close. But you, you know the competition with Walmart, For example, Wal Mart is also doing some sales events online and you It's a good idea to check a cross between several of them. You can also do little tricks like Go in. If you've got an Amazon account and go in and maybe put something in your card already And then if it goes on sale when it goes on sale, the price will change on Tuesday or Wednesday, and then you can actually buy it. So you know, like it said, a lot of stuff leaked online. The other event that everybody's looking at which I know you know about the Apple event the iPhones because that's another popular thing, smartphones and what sales event So Apple on the 13th as well. Busy Tec Day is going to announce its new iPhone. Models, so lots of leaks and rumors about that The big thing is they will finally get a five G phones out there. That is faster, Wireless standing there waiting, but well, that's that's huge, But I mean, is it still the thing? I mean, I've been by the apple store here in town, and I mean, there's almost always people standing outside waiting to get in, so I know those products were still hot, but are they as hot As they once were. I mean, like if I got whatever and the next new one comes out, I have to have that. No, There's not a lot. I mean, you're right. Like in every town in America. If you have an apple store is the line up for that in the grocery store. That's been you know to things from the last Six or seven months. So yeah, it's still popular in that sense. Still a lot of fans still a lot of fans of the product and a lot of people really anticipating this. This announcement. It was usually done in September, but Supply chain issues. Other things came up delays in manufacturing has put it off until October. The 13th you'd actually watching online. Most people watch it themselves If they want the give you the rumors about what's going to happen there expecting four new models. With a led screens, which are sharper, brighter screens. And that five g that five g addition I think, actually is something that you may want now, if you've got an iPhone that Two years old, little older than two years, you may want to upgrade. This might be the model that makes you upgrade even though they're not quite as popular as they were before I'll be dining on so that you know again. It's all great tips. But if I want to get some hard info on, you know what the deals are going to be, whether it's Amazon WalMart target whoever eyes or any Web sites or any place I can go to kind of get the skinny. Before I just started surfing in shopping. A lot of people are a lot of the tech sites have rumor Mills and and you know, if you look at the front page of everything from CNET to PC mag and and those kinds of tech sites that do reviews and Tom's Guide where I review products as well. Tom's got. You'll see things about sales coming up, but there's a lot of articles. I'm finding the sifter and there are a lot of different items like I said, from cookware all the way to on the tech stuff that I cover, So it depends on what you're looking for. It's almost easy to dis search for something that you actually want to buy that. What a kinds upped. Hey, here's what I really want. Is there. A deal on that great stuff is always a queue. I don't think what we're seeing on Friday and Saturday is quite you know what will be remnants of Hurricane Laura at that point, but it is expected to kind of come north. And then swoop across the southern part of Ohio. So we may see a little moisture from that that the day I mean, I don't wish my life way try to live every day is do as much good as I can. But when you hear Sunday is going to be sunny and 74, that's it's hard not to focus in on that. That sounds like a beautiful day, given the hot in humans that we've had the last couple. So anyway, we'll keep you up to date with traffic and weather on the tens right now. 7 38, our tech guru John Quyen for a few minutes. Course you can follow Jane John at J Dash q dot com. Where are you this morning? Me, amigo. I'm in Manhattan, New York, Beautiful New York. That's kind of I mean, that's your home base. Right? That's where you live. Absolutely. But I mean you you probably have a fair number of frequent flyer miles each year, don't you? Idea, but I can't use them right now. Don't go anywhere that you can't or you won't because there's a lot of people who got time to go somewhere. They just don't want to get on the plane and be in the tube with all the other people. I would. You know, I would travel from international places. I had a trip that was planned for Germany. But that cancels, obviously they were let people like me in so I would do it. I think. Yeah, I think I'm ready to get a little stir crazy. Okay? I think most people can identify with that. No problem about it. So let's throw down on the big stuff of the day. It's not huge here. I don't think I mean I see him around these the scooters, e scooters and all that, but out in California. They're having trouble with fatalities. There's some people pursuing back and forth. What's going on with these things Well, is also part of the pandemic and kind of a result of the two that technology we're having trouble with these e scooters and shared e bike sent things already. You know that people behaving badly, basically, and many of the operators I talked to before said Yeah. When you people would misbehave on these things, leave them in places they shouldn't Crash them, etcetera. So they have this bill in California that they proposed that would make it illegal for companies to allow you to waive your rights to sue them. Basically, you know, when you signed these long things that nobody reads one of the things on there is like when you rent skis go Whitewater rafting. Only you promise not to do that company thought these things were perilous things to do. I just I don't think about a scooter. As being something as perilous as white water rafting or hitting a double black diamond out in the Rockies. Well, the trouble with the Tudors in these vices they looked really easy, right? I just get on it and pushed leaden ride down the sidewalk. But there potholes in balance issues that people are crashing them all the time and injuring themselves in small and in major ways, And so they crafted this bill, but it was before the pandemic that would make it you know illegal to do that, But it would have the reverse effect, though you know it would make it very difficult for those business cooperate and they can already be food. Basically, you know, you look at some of these waivers, and they're not really legal, anyway. So in San Francisco, for example, they're being sued Somebody who ability people and in New York City rebel. This company had these these bikes there like Mo peds, their electronic mo peds, even a mopeds. They look really liked best bits. If you want to know what they look like. They're big like a vest and they go but they go about 30 Miles an hour. Um, seemed like a great idea. They've been around for almost two years. They started in Brooklyn and they were doing things like picking them up late at night so that people couldn't ride them, like get out of a bar and then start writing them all over the place. So they understood that people might not do the right thing when they're writing them. But with the pandemic they've expanded and people were doing things like I saw a guy on my block. Riding it down the sidewalk like this is the size of a motorcycle, right? So so people I was going to the Bronx A couple of weeks ago, people were side saddle on it. No helmets riding through it. Like Of course, bad things are gonna happen. They've had to suspend operations here in New York because there were a couple of fatalities. Unfortunately, um, and trying to get people to behave on these newfangled, you know, micro mobility is what they're called gadgets and scooters and bikes. Etcetera is being a challenge. Definitely. So one of the ideas is that Ravell is going to make you take a selfie with a helmet on so before you can unlock bike, you've gotta put the helmet on and take a selfie and will recognize that. What about that? Well, that that that's some real technology there that you know they can recognize that or the thing won't even run. Right, exactly. Although you know what people are going Todo. They're going to take a photo with a helmet on and as soon as it on lots of like, they're going to take the helmet off. That's what they're gonna do. Well, that's on you. I mean, if there's documentation that the and that that reminds me of a great George Carlin line, hey was a very anti motorcycle helmet laws. The line is why would we pass a law to protect a brain that's not smart enough to protect itself. Yeah. Don't call those brain buckets. For now. They know it does. Kind of freaked me out. When I go to a state where I see people without the helmet Harley, like Okay again, it's the United States. As far as I know, you can still make your own decision. About what you want to do. So basically, the nutshell is even if I signed the deal, it says I won't sue. I can still sue. People still do. And you know what has successful they are. I don't know, but you know, it's hard to prove negligence where you have a lot of warnings on these devices. Rebel even has sort of a safety thing that they're going to put you through as an app because, of course, he can't get trade that you can get a train if you want, but nobody does. They just walk up and get on the thing. So, yeah, I mean, Look, I learned how to ski and skied my whole life without a helmet, downhill skiing and accept what we were racing and then later in life realized I started testing helmets think I think I need to start wearing a helmet. So use video. You grow up learning and experiencing and realizing that your reflexes aren't as good as they once were. I think you made the right call my friend John Queen there. Our tech guru.
