"Like miles you can be the liaison for the liberty and own for the aces. Tie game who takes your last shot? That's a great question. Stewart. So that was quick. Chelsea. Well, here's the thing. I think it's interesting, right? Because the ace is more complicated. I think it's fairly obvious that you want do we taking the last shot if she's on the court for the obvious answer would be, okay, Asia. But the aces are constructed a little differently and Asia's game is different to stewie's game. And I think that is kind of, you know, maybe punting on the question, not a fun answer, but you'd have to, you have to be in the match up, see how it's going, see who's defending who, like, we just watched the playoffs. Chelsea gray was taking those shots for the aces. Which is not indictment of Asia. Asia was, I had one of the best playoff defensive performances I've ever seen. She was eating on the glass. She played amazing offensively from a scoring perspective, you know, in many of those games. But when it came down to the end of the game, there's no better one on one bucket getter in this league than Chelsea gray. And ultimately, it's a real luxury to have Chelsea gray on your team and also be like, oh yeah, we also have Candace and Asia in the front court. Like in case we want to, oh yeah, we also have Kelsey plum, who, by the way, can just snipe from anywhere. We also have Jackie young, who's like, you know, in assassin everywhere she goes. It's ridiculous. It breaks my brain, thinking about this matchup every day. Well, yeah, I was gonna say that I was way too fast to answer because as I'm listening to you break it down, I think that comes down to a stewy Sabrina pick and roll. And then reading the defense there. But back in 2021, sab took some of those shots, but I should take a lot of those shots too. She's someone who can generate her own her own looks at any time. JJ seals deeper than maybe anybody else in the league. So if you're looking for you just need two points, you could just clear out, you could space stewie, right? And you can clear out, get a deep two JJ. We were all there, sorry, except for Calvin. We were there in Brooklyn when Courtney van der sloot hit a game winner. She had a few game when his Australian three gaming threes last year. The heart out of the Barclays center that day, like that was made. Also miles is too nice. Benign lady legend I love her. She's not getting the last shot of this TV. I disagree. I think look back at that playoff series last year. Look back at that playoff series, especially that game three. She took some big shots in that series. And no disrespect, she's a clutch player, like she's great. I think her best offense comes off of other actions. I don't think she makes a ton of sense as the number one option. The play that I can't wait to see is John quill and stewie setting staggered screens for Sabrina. Yeah. Going in different directions. A screen on a play. You just, there's so many ways you could play off that. You could have one role one part. You know, there's so many different variations of that set that's going to be just absolutely ridiculous. More than that. I want to see Cal, I just want to see the two of them out there now with Sabrina, but with marine. I want to see that. Yes. I want to see marine with literally anyone, really. But I feel like the better way to phrase that question though based on what you guys are all saying isn't like who's taking the last shot, but who has the ball in their hands at the end? Oh, yeah. So it might not. Be the same thing. You know, when you have a Sabrina or a Chelsea gray who can, if you completely sell out on them, go find someone in all four other players on the court for both of them are going to be able to hit that shot if you sell out on anyone else. So the answer is like, who knows who's taking that last shot? But who has the ball in their hands at the end? It's definitely Chelsea gray for the aces. I think for the liberty. Yeah, I think Chelsea makes it easier for the aces to answer that question. But the real answer, though, is we won't know until Sabrina has her dream the night before opening night. And then once it goes to bed and dreams about who will hit the game winner, only then will we know? Well, I mean, opening night, they're playing the fever again. And I don't want to play the whole set the line thing, but I imagine it's going to be, I imagine I just wanted to be something ridiculous that we can't bet on. We're going to see college basketball lines in the WNBA. The highest number I don't think we had a line in the 20s last year ever. I don't think but we might. Yeah. 19 opening the highest. It feels like it feels like the liberty are always playing the fever opening night. But I think it was the last, I think it was the home opener last year, but then there was the Tierra Macau and year where she hid that put back on opening night and now we're giving them again. It was like the Barclays opener a couple of years ago. It just weird scheduling. But yeah, that's aliyah Boston's first game potentially. And now it's going to be the total opposite. I mean, good for Leah Boston. Garrett great experience playing against John quill Jones and stewie your first game in the W obviously, everyone listening should know that she is not a member of the Indiana fever yet. We're just making a broad assumption that she's going to be the number one pick. Speaking of picks, I know let's wrap up here pretty quickly. We got some college games to watch. Who do you have in your top three? And give me the order. I know that Owen and I definitely differ. On this and I love having Calvin on here because I don't think there's anybody who's watched more college basketball than in Calvin wetzel. But I'll start with my three number one Leah Boston. Two, I'm taking diamond Miller. Three, I'm going Hayley Jones. Yeah, I mean, I can't disagree with that. And I have to say, I'm way outmatched in terms of the numbers of hours of college basketball. You guys watch. Versus myself. So I'm just here to, I'm just here with the vibes report, you know? And the vibes report has Haley Jones as the number two overall. But look, I love diamond Miller. I think I'm in Miller's games incredible. I think that if Minnesota took diamond Miller, no one could critique that at all. What's that? It's a win win with either of those players. It's a real win win. And I think that diamond Miller's ceiling is astronomically high. I think something I'm watching in her progression in her growth is people are going at the next level, professional defenders are going to anticipate diamond Miller using her length to her advantage, which she does so brilliantly in college with these really long Euro steps, et cetera. And it's not to say she doesn't have moves, but I think she's going to need to add a certain extra level to her offensive game to score in tight confines. But that's just growing pains that anyone has. Personally, I'm just really high on Hailey Jones. I think that people have kind of forgotten how dominant she was in the final four when Stanford won the title. There are definitely concerns about will she be able to score it the next level, her three point shooting hasn't been very good in college. Stanford players other than the aguma kays like, can you be successful professionally? We haven't seen it from a lot of Stanford players. You know, coming from Tara's system. And ultimately, I'm like, I just trust her. She just seems like someone who is going to figure it out. She's so smart. She's such a good concert. That's a type of player I'm going to bet on every time. So I'd still take Hayley to, but taking diamond to his entirely defensible. Do y'all have a player comp right now for Haley Jones? It could be NBA too. I don't care. I'm just trying to, I mean, like the IQ is there the handle is like good enough. Obviously the outside shot maybe not there, but I'm trying to figure out who I would kind of put that player comp to, it doesn't ring a bell for me. But there's a lot of similarities, I think, two nafisa Collier in the way that she approaches the game, not defensively, not doing all the same stuff.

"Players into wind titles and furthermore, there's not a lot you can do right now about the money side of things. And that's the money is always going to be the answer to every question you have about. How is this happening? How did Tom Brady win a million super bowls? He took a pay cut. He could have been making 45 million a year on a different team and instead he took 25 million so that he could have a good teammates and then take all the credit when they won. The liberty saved money bringing in MVP John quill Jones and trading away Natasha Howard. That moves saved money. It could be making infinity money. It's not for the curtain CPA at max contract levels and stuff like that. And Courtney van der sloot is an instant Hall of Fame player that also could be commanding a max contract if you wanted. That's just not that's not what their priorities right now. They're priorities to go play for a liberty team that they know is going to invest in them. And all the stuff that you don't see on the court, by the way, too. That's why I'm a little bit scattered read right here, but I'm going to go baseball now on this one. The reason I hate the Yankees, well, there's a lot of reasons. But one of them is they get all the good players that they want because they can offer a lot of money and they have day care. They do a bunch of stuff off the field that's like, oh, that's why people like playing there is they actually take care of their players like professionals. And

"Fever. The Atlanta dream acquired Danielle Robinson and the fever required Christie Wallace, this I do think was a pretty solid trade for both teams. I think it makes sense as to why each team was willing to make this trade. Christy Wallace is a really solid, young, high potential player that I think could do really well in Indiana. Plus, Indiana also frees up about $55,000 in cap space, which is almost in the equivalent of a contract, one full contract for a player. So this is big for Indiana as they're trying to figure out what they're going to do in free agency. Now they have some pretty deep pockets. They can probably go out. And at least have the money to sign a big name and be able to compete financially for those players. And if those players are able to look at some of the other pieces happening in Indiana, such as all of the young rookies and other players that are there for the fever, as well as the fever with the number one draft pick for the upcoming draft, which at this point you kind of assume is going to be Aaliyah Boston, you know, kind of looking at who would be declaring and who would be entering into the draft and where they would land aliyah Boston kind of makes the most sense as far as guesswork goes. So I don't know, maybe Indiana's now going to be somewhat of a desirable destination for many players. This makes sense for Atlanta because they're bringing in yet another veteran that can that knows a lot about the game that's well seasoned into the game that has played in a lot of different cities and on a lot of different teams and organizations throughout the league. I think this is like her fourth one that she's been on since we started this show 5 or 6 years ago. We are a huge fan of Daniel Robbins in all four of us. She's the first player that we met in person when starting this show in our whole WNBA journey. Huge fans of D rob, shout out to her. We hope the best for her in her journey to Atlanta. Now, let's move on to the trade that everybody's been talking about. And that is the blockbuster three team trade that happened over this weekend. This trade involved Connecticut, the New York liberty, and the Dallas wings. I'm just going to go over what each team acquired and where that asset came from as we go through. And I say asset because it's not all players, some of it. Yeah, there's a draft pick thrown in here too. Dallas receives Natasha Howard from the New York liberty. That's a big time get for Dallas. They also received the rights to crystal Ginger filled. For those of you who aren't aware, Natasha Howard is a former defensive player of the year crystal dangerfield is a former rookie of the year when she was with the links, even though she was a second round draft pick. So both of these players have a lot of potential and have achieved some of that potential in the past and Dallas hoping to capitalize on each of their on each of what they can do. Connecticut receives the number 6, 2023 draft pick from the liberty, as well as Rebecca Allen from the liberty and ty Harris from Dallas. New York receives John quell Jones from Connecticut and Kayla Thornton from Dallas. All right, if you're looking at this just across the board as far as what each team received, I think the far and away winner of this trade has to be New York. They landed John quell Jones a player who just won the MVP two seasons ago. And they also land a really solid front court piece in Kayla Thornton that Kayla thorn is a fantastic defender. And if you're going to lose a former defensive player of the year in Natasha Howard and you're bringing in Kayla Thornton alongside of MVP and John Claude Jones, that's a big get for New York. Now, I think that Dallas also had a slight upgrade to their roster and their situation in this receiving Natasha Howard and crystal dangerfield potentially while losing out ty Harris and Kayla Thornton. I do think that Natasha Howard is a step up in that regard. So I think Dallas slightly comes out ahead. If you're asking for my personal opinion, I think Connecticut lost on this. Now, maybe there's kind of a long play that Connecticut has in mind that they are like, well, we've got really something in mind here. I don't know what that is, but I do feel like if you're going to give up a former MVP, you got to get more than a draft pick and a couple of role players. And especially it's not even the top, it's not a lottery pick. It's number 6 in the draft. So we'll see. We'll see, I don't know what Connecticut plans to do with this, but I do think that they probably came out on the low end of this deal. Now, who knows, maybe they're trying to free up some cap space by moving some moving a big contract in John quill Jones. I don't know. Maybe there's a longer play here, but I'm not sure. "About 26. She's 29. Oh, she's 29. All right. In the prime. Not at the dawn of the prime, but in the prime. I think 27 to 31 is your window for like you're going to get the best years of this player. That's easily a trade worth doing for them. Well, and here's the thing because LA basically has a wide open book. They could go out and say, all right, who do you want Connecticut in any of these free agencies? And they can sign that player and then look to trade that player and making sure that and that provides with some flexibility in cap for both teams. I think they have a lot of heavy value that way. I also think the sparks might be aggressive in those moves because they know they're not picking up another star and a draft anytime soon. Right. So I think that's where they hold that and it's kind of do you center package around to Kennedy Carter? Do you believe you can't sorry my bad? Well yeah, again. Sorry, no. I got my wires crossed. My brain blew up. It comes down to how you package it, how you center everything down, but I think I just feel like it's a solid move. It could this be just me making up fiction, everything I say seems that. But I feel like there's definitely narrative there. That's my question. I think the only thing that could hold you off on the junko move just comes down to destination. Like where makes sense, but I think there are a lot of places that make sense. And I think if any organization gets a with that John quill Jones is on the move, you have to make one call. I ain't going to be really dumb of any team to not make one call. And just take a shot at it. So I'm intrigued to see where that goes. Okay. Well, that was a lot of fun. That was a lot of fun to get some takes on each of those buy sell rumors. Now obviously we are going to be diving much further into individual situations. We're going to be also coming in with some previews for the WNBA draft and some mock drafts coming your way. We've spent a good chunk of time tonight discussing free agency. We've had a lot of fun. Stay tuned. We've got a lot of other content that's going to be coming your way. Some more takes. And as the rumor mill churns, who knows, who knows, maybe we will keep you updated with the latest of our thoughts. But Steve and Logan do either of you have any parting something that we didn't touch on that you thought, man, we definitely got to hit this and we covered it pretty well. Is there anything that you got to bring up before we call it a night? I feel like I'm better at being reactionary than being predictive. I'll probably have a lot for you in about ten days. Sounds good. I think that's all my thoughts for now. I don't know about Steve. I just want to say that while this is going on, the NWSL is also in the heat of their own free agency, and there's already been some exciting spicy moves generational start to be leaving North Carolina heading to the Casey current. That's a huge one. Marta is staying in Orlando and angel city trading up for the number one pick

"Pillar, like it's khali copper's team, but Candice Parker can this Parker will be there and be effective even at what is he 38. Now, it doesn't matter who cared. 36, I don't know. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. No, I think she stays. And I don't have my ear to the ground or a beat reporter informing me or anything. It's just a matter of this whole off season. We've looked at the host of names that are going to be available in free agency and I've kind of mentally ticked the ones that I think they're going to be on the move. They're going to be on the move. And for some reason, it just never struck me that Candice Parker would want to go anywhere else. She went and got her ring. It looks like she's a lot of fun playing with copper. I think even if the core of that team moves on, she's the perfect type of veteran to build her out and maintain a great defensive presence. She's just one of the best stars that really and I think she just likes it there, honestly. I think the LA days are over. I could see her moving on to a team that isn't Chicago or LA even, but yeah, that's a sell for me. All right. Yeah. Yeah. I have one more thought about this whole situation with gamma so this sparks, but I have a feeling another rumors coming up that's going to reveal my thoughts on it. So I'm going to hold off, but just a teaser. We'll see. I kind of dug for this last one. I didn't dig too far. I didn't dig too far. There's been articles on this. This one is not actually with free agency as much as it would be trades and maybe freeing up some cap space to move some other players in. But we've seen some rumors surrounding one John quell Jones, who is currently under contract with the Connecticut sun. Do you think that are you buying or selling on the Connecticut sun moving John quell Jones and entertaining entertaining offers for trades for John quell? My initial reaction is I'm selling it. But then I think about the teams and maybe even the desperation and the money that's floating around in free agency. And there's probably a team crazy enough to make the right offer. Do I know who it's going to be? No, probably Dallas. Dallas is probably going to trade 12 players and a car. And just trot out John quill Jones and four traffic cones and be like, this is our team this year. Logan has made a hard pivot from Indiana to Dallas over the last 12 months. Hard pivot ever since the WNBA journalist last season. All of a sudden, Indiana is off the table and it's on to Dallas. If you own WNBA TikTok, like some of the other accounts, there is a strong running narrative that doesn't just live at this podcast that is simply, I just don't know what the wings are doing. I don't know what we're talking about and I think. I don't know what they're about.

"If everybody on this starting lineup gets 15 points and John quill Jones gets 25 because she's capable of being an MVP, best player on the floor type player. Who's, I mean, I think Connecticut can really surprise. I don't know if I've seen people give them the type of credit, I think they deserve it. No, I agree. What's going to be interesting to see here is to see if Connecticut and their well rounded scoring and they're kind of approaching things as a team is going to overthrow just the absolute insane scoring capabilities. It's a buzz saw. This is just put up a ton. The aces, whether it's Chelsea gray or Asia Wilson or Kelsey plum or Jackie young. Any one of those players can absolutely go nuclear and run you out of the building. And that's what Chelsea gray has been doing lately, but if Jesse gray doesn't do that one game, don't immediately assume that the rest of the team isn't capable of that because that's what we've seen. We've seen Kelsey plum and Jackie young do that at times throughout this season. I think I really do think that the old adage of offense wins games defense wins championships is gonna come into play. Both of these teams play really good defense. And it's gonna be a blast. They play really good defense and they can put up a lot of points. think that I gotta go. I think Las Vegas has the advantage here. I think home court advantage does play a pretty decent pretty decent role in these first couple games. Although there have been several wins away from home for different teams in these playoffs so far. So it's not like a, it's not an end all be all, but I gotta say that Las Vegas has to feel pretty good getting an extra game of rest. Starting a series with two quick home games that alone, you have to be feeling pretty good if you're a Las Vegas aces fan. I think they come away with the game one win and man, I think the ace is probably gonna take this series, but I am just excited. I think this is gonna be a lot closer series than some people are giving it credit for. So I think my official prediction will be that Las Vegas takes the series, I'm gonna say that they get it, but I'm like you, the longer I sit, if you ask me by tomorrow morning, I might go my go Connecticut because I've looked back at different plays and different highlights through those last two Connecticut games. And that's a team that is scary good. On both ends of the court. So yeah, well, I don't even know. I don't know what to say other than I feel like you and I both rambled a lot on our thoughts here. So I hope you enjoyed that. I'm going to go, I'm going to go four games. I'm going to say that this is going to be similar to that Seattle series where Las Vegas wins in four games, but it isn't because they're winning convincingly, if that makes sense. I think they're going to do just enough to win this in four games. And I think Connecticut still deserves the respect. So I apologize to Kurt Miller for not picking them. But I will say that there's a lot of people who are disregarding Connecticut right now that are absolutely just dumb for doing so. But yeah, so I'm going to say vague is in four as my official is my official prediction, what you got. I've officially overthought this now to the point where. Please. I got your back, Kurt. I'm taking your team. I'm taking the sun. I think it's 7 and 5. The questions that we need answered are can Chelsea gray continue the unbelievable streak that she's been on, which I said before game 5 I thought could continue and I still believe can continue. But it might not. Realistically, if it dips even a little bit, absolutely opens the door for the sun. And I think if someone takes dewanna bonner aside and says, look, we need that. We need you to be that for this team. Maybe not 5 nights in a row, but we need a couple games where dewana bunner gets more than 13 or 14 a game. We need to see that because she's capable of it. If those two things happen, if Chelsea gray cools even a little bit and comes back within orbit of earth and dewanna bonner can up her presence on the offensive end a little bit. I think Connecticut has the defense. I think they have the better bench. I think coaching is a wash. I think these are two of the best coaches in the game right now with teams that are absolutely bonded chemistry, not an issue. They gel they've been playing together for a long time. It's going to be a great series. I'm going to take the sun and I'm not trying to game a system here or reverse jinx anyone. I'm just honestly straight up. I've talked myself into this being their year. That's kind of exciting for me because I didn't think that was going to happen. And just so you guys know, this is not we have off mic decided as a show that we're not going to ever do. If all four of us hosts are on and three people pick one team, we promised ourselves as a group that we're not going to change our predictions based on what other people say. Just for the sake of pandering to one fan base or another. So you can take what I have to say, you can take what Logan has to say. You can take that to the bank of what we truly think about this series. And I'm excited to I'm excited for Sunday, dude. I'm excited to see how this game, this game one plays out. I think it's going to be a fantastic series. I think it's going to be a great matchup. I think that I can't wait to see what Connecticut in Las Vegas have in store for us. And I'm hoping and I've got my fingers crossed that this ends up being a similar series to what we saw both of these teams do in the semifinals because obviously they're capable of it. And I think the world deserves to see what the very top level of the WNBA is capable of. Logan, anything else that you've got before we go ahead and wrap this episode up. John quill Jones, game winning bucket. In game one, Sunday Night. Okay. That's my extra calling my shot prediction just. JJ, with the game winning bucket in game one, I like that. I like that. "One or two little bounces or one or two ticks off of a clock one way or another. This is a Seattle team that ends up in the finals. This is a Jackie young buzzer beater away from Seattle potentially being in the final. This was a great series this series felt that's a really interesting point that I hadn't thought of that the ace is really scraped their way into the finals even though it felt like they were always going to be there where the sun have a blowout win and then kind of another blowout win if you, if you want to count game 5, I know the score wasn't that way, but the end of the decisive victories. Yeah. And that's the thing is you've got Connecticut coming into this after having just really taken care of business against Chicago the defending champions who only went out and added players like Emma mesman, who was a former Finals MVP and Julie allemande, who's like Courtney van der sloot two. That's who Chicago they went out and reloaded and improved on a championship roster and Connecticut took care of business against them. In Las Vegas, again, scraped by, but they scraped by which is impressive because this is a really good Seattle storm team that was playing at the very top of their game. I think this is the best that I had seen Seattle play. Las Vegas was also just playing some of their very best basketball at the exact same time. This was a clash of the Titans. This was Asia Wilson versus Brianna Stewart. This was Chelsea gray versus Sue bird. This jewel Lloyd versus Kelsey plum and Jackie young versus, you know, Gabby Williams, like this was an insane series. And I loved every minute of it and I think everybody can look at what we saw in the semifinal matchups. This semifinal series and look ahead to these finals and say, man, how are these finals going to live up to that intensity and hype that was surrounding both of these matchups in the semifinals? So with that being said, Logan, let's move on kind of officially make some call outs and maybe some predictions here for these finals with Las Vegas and Connecticut. I would agree with you, I would say that the overwhelming odds are probably going to come in as Las Vegas, but I don't know if I agree that I think that it's a lot closer to a 50 50 matchup. If I'm being honest, I think that a lot of people are kind of already crowning Las Vegas like, oh, they're the favorites and maybe I'll look like an idiot in Las Vegas, you know, sweeps this series and does it so by 20 points a game, but I really don't see that happening. I think this Connecticut sun team has every bit the shot that Las Vegas does. And I'm curious your thoughts on this upcoming series, the upcoming finals. Yeah. I've said before recently even that it kind of felt like the aces year all year. If you maybe make a snap decision and not really think about it, I would probably say, well, if I had to bet my life on it, I'd probably go with Vegas. It just feels like they're here. The more I dig the more I get concerned that we are still not getting the sun enough credit for what they for what they did in the sky series. First of all, I know the sky went ice cold, but some of that was Connecticut defense. It wasn't just bad shot selection and bad ball movement. And if you're able to, if you're able to silence an offense like Chicago for the final 5 minutes of a do or die game, that makes me a little nervous if they go into a Vegas series and they can just keep Chelsea gray a little cooler than average and you know and everybody else on the team isn't putting up shot because Vegas does sometimes fall into the trap of relying on their two big scores. I know Kelsey plum's greeting transition. Everybody can score. That's why they score like a hundred points a game. But they'll differ sometimes. And you look at the Connecticut sun scoring. I mean, every night, it's like almost as ridiculous like 14 points for every player. It's like super, super balanced, almost to the point where I can't believe they're not trying to do that. They have like 6 players in double figures and then 5 players in double figures and nobody's over 25. It's hard to break down defense in a podcast because defensive stats just aren't that telling in basketball yet. We haven't figured out how to quantify defense that well. But we know Connecticut in your face defense is going to be a problem at times for Vegas. I don't expect Vegas to go for a hundred points every night. Some games, this is going to be a long series. I think some games will be high scoring other games are going to be in the 60s or 70s. Yeah, you get to 71st, you'll probably win. Something I'm really excited about. Again, this is the deeper I go into the sun, the more I can talk myself into Connecticut, having a real shot in this series. And I understand if you're listening to this, you're snap judgment is like, yeah, but Vegas, and I'm telling you, everything that applies to Vegas applies to Connecticut. Everyone's Becky Hammond is an amazing coach, who on coach of the year. Kurt Miller is a pretty good coach. And I think on any given night he can be the best coach in the league. People want to go if you just decide series based on like, well, who's got the best player because basketball is largely determined by individual performances. Asia Wilson's the MVP, John Cole Jones hasn't played particularly MVP like in the postseason and absolutely has that in her. I realized it's like having an ace picture that hasn't been hot and then wanting a quality start from them in the World Series. It's like, yeah, are they going to show up? And by the way, she had like ten rebounds 15 points in game 5, so I'm not saying that she's been bad. But she hasn't been MVP good. And if she does play MVP good, I don't think anyone can beat the sun. I think the sun are a deeper team and if hamby is not full. I mean, she's played four garbage minutes a piece in the last two playoff games. So I don't know what she's got. But you've got Brianna Jones. Odyssey zooms and DJ Carrington kind of a defensive specialist coming off the bench for Connecticut. I really like the idea of throwing Carrington out there for some minutes and not really having any sort of slump on the defensive end. So I don't know, am I making any sense? I don't know if I'm making a very compelling argument, but you would ask me this morning, like who's gonna win this series? I've been Vegas easy. And the more time I've had to think about that ending in Chicago, they went into a hostile environment in a game that they should have lost and played a crappy third quarter. They should have felt like it was over. Sure. I mean, they should have been hanging their heads like we just scored 5 points. We're down 9. This series is over. It happened again. We did the Connecticut thing and instead they rallied and kind of looked ticked off doing it. And I don't think they're done. I don't think they're happy getting to the finals. In fact, I know they're not. Like, ah, see people didn't think we could get here. They're not gonna be doing victory laps because they need to do the finals. They've been here before. Right. They don't care about the honorary we made it really far and we're really good. They want the hardware. I realize so does AJ Wilson and all the Vegas fans listening. But man, it's been heartbreak for so many years in a row for Connecticut. It kind of feels like they know it's got to be their time now or never. And I'm talking myself into if everybody on this starting lineup gets 15 points and John quill Jones gets 25 because she's capable of being an MVP, best player on the floor

"We bring on different friends who have unique and educated perspectives on the games, the teams, and whatnot. All right, so then it was the first game of the game threes. Chicago sky taking on the Connecticut sun in Connecticut, it was a back and forth Gritty game again. And I think, you know, Rachel, as we were chatting throughout that game, I'm sitting there going, you know, there's a positive here for Connecticut because it's the style of game they wanted. The negative was they couldn't buy a shot. They couldn't hit a layup. They are in trouble. And if you follow social media, you get why I brought up the layups. But when you look back at that game when you think back about it, what's your analysis of it? Rachel, because when I think back about it, if I'm Kurt Miller, yeah, you're upset about the loss. Yeah, there's like factors and things you'd like to do better. But end of the day, it really just boiled down to the fact that they were in the game and they weren't hitting shots. Shots that you fully expect and anticipate those players to hit. Well, I mean, here, you know, you hold the defending champs to just shooting 37%. They shoot 24% from the field. You know, you end up beating them at the free throw battle. You dominate them on the glass. You know, I mean, it's like, I think the two areas that are the biggest areas of concern are just the turnover numbers, you know? I mean, Connecticut only turned Chicago over 8 times versus the sun turned it over 17 times. You know, that's been an ongoing theme with this team throughout the course of the season. But I mean, it really does just come down to shots. I mean, you hold you hold Chicago to 76. I mean, you know? I don't know what else you can possibly do more on the defensive end of the floor. You know, you made everybody so uncomfortable. You did what you were supposed to do in terms of being the aggressor, getting yourself to the free throw line, winning the rebounding battle. I mean, those are two huge keys for Connecticut to be successful. I mean, you know, so I think you look at the turnover numbers. But yeah, I mean, it's super simple. You can't have half your team, you know, going three for 12, three, for 11, even Brianna Jones, one of the, you know, I mean, and I think she ended up going four for 11. And you know, that's not atrocious for her, but for someone who shoots in the 60s, that's not a great night. And so it just, it was almost like, it was almost like Connecticut was frustrating Chicago so much, but it almost felt like Chicago was able to frustrate Connecticut, at least when it came to being around the rim. I mean, we talked about the layups. You talked about those missed shots and the paint that we see this team make. If you just make not even half of the ones that they miss, make three, this is a different outcome in that game. So, you know, I mean, that was a disheartening win for Connecticut because I feel like the game plan was in place. It did go to their favor. If you're not going to make shots, what else can you do? This is late late playoff. This is September basketball. You've just got to make shots. And shots includes, obviously, layups as well. Well, and that's, I mean, there's so many aspects to it. But you talk about the Connecticut sun, right? There made for these grind it out series where they're just going to battle you. They're going to play physical and you're not going to want to play them in the third game of the series. You're not going to want to play them in the fourth game. Chicago obviously has that will that fire that drive, they want to championship last year. And I think this year, what's made it so different is normally the team looking for the repeat struggles to have that drive that fight that bark. But because of how bad Chicago was or inconsistent they were in the regular season last year, I feel like Chicago came into this season with a completely different mission and it was much easier for them to be so driven that you don't necessarily see as much with the repeating team. But when I look at this game, I have to agree with you on many points, which I hate to do. But I think about it, and I'm like, John called Jones. Like, your MVP, you're pulling her with three minutes left. And I understand the issues of who they're putting on the court who you're putting on the court who's being successful, who's not. But I have to think that at a certain point, if I'm Kurt Miller, I'm going to rest my cap, whatever the phrase is on John quill Jones, right? There's a reason she's an MVP. I know she hasn't been that level this season. But I think if they're going to move on to the finals, it's going to be because like Alyssa Thomas is going to do a list Thomas thinks. Maybe she's not going to be hitting her shots. She's going to get a ridiculous amount of rebounds, get like a handful of assists, get a couple of those poke out steals. But at the end of the day, if John, if they can not find a way to, in the same way that we look at Seattle and say, you need to run the ball through ran a Stewart. In the same way we say Vegas, you need to run the ball through Asia Wilson or Chicago through Candace Parker or whoever it is. The Houston comets through Cynthia Cooper. Like whoever it is, that is their player, the question for Connecticut throughout all their years of being successful and playoff runs has been who is going to be that player who kind of puts the team on their back. And I know Alyssa Thomas can do that in ways, but I feel like in playoff series, Alyssa Thomas style of play isn't as productive for getting the W as a great like John Claude Jones. Maybe I'm crazy. I don't know. No, it just feels like it's by committee, you know, a little bit with Connecticut. It could be anyone's night any given night. You just kind of the approach. And again, I feel like this is the most disconnected I felt from understanding a team, a Connecticut sun team in years. You know, there's just something. And I could say the same thing about Chicago, not disconnected, but just there's something I can't quite figure out about this team. But when it comes to Connecticut, I certainly feel that way. You know, you just have to question,

"Yeah. Very, very, as we talked about consistency is amazing. I'd love to see some consistency from Connecticut, but one thing I want to touch on is John quill Jones. In game one, let me get her numbers. Game one, she was 5 of 8. Efficient, low volume. Not bad touches. Yeah. Ten to 17 in game two, 23 points. I mean, obviously a lose game two, but I think getting Jungkook going is a good thing, right? Yeah, I mean, that's definitely a key. I think after the first half too, I think they were still trying to get her more touches last night, right? I think, you know, out of the gates, they weren't finding her. The first two actions in their quarter court offense, John quill wasn't really getting her touches. And credits defense on that too. But you also saw Connecticut be more deliberate and intentional with we've got to go through JJ on this possession they were getting her the ball and that's why she had those 17 attempts. So she's got to take at least 17. I mean, that's got to be minimum to me. And that's not what I'm saying that it's not like, oh, you want her to be, you know, ball hog. I'm like, no, she needs the ball needs to go through her because the defense morphs in different ways when she gets touched. So it's not necessarily that she needs to take that shot. She needs to get those touches. And I think people, you know, are like, just put the ball in there and it's a black hole and that's forget about it. No, it makes the defense adjust. It makes the defense rotate. Now you can make some moves. Is it going to be for her shot? Sometimes it will be. Which would be great, right? Because we want her to get more shots up. But at the same time, see what the defense does if you get it to her. If you go empty possessions in terms of getting her a touch, regardless of where it is, right? It could be on the outside could be in the paint, Mitt right. She needs to bulk because the defense is going to adjust to where she is with it. And they need to make reads out of it. So I think they did a good job of getting her the ball a little bit more. Yeah, I want to see her be more aggressive. I want to see her in the role that stewartson frees the out. I mean, Stuart will just get the ball out the elbow. She got the ball. Should get the ball wherever, and then it'll create her own shot. I'm saying. I think John well needs to be able to create her and I think John call is capable of it. And we've seen her do it. It's just not happening in their flow. The offense and like we were just mentioning, right? The best adjustments are when you can, it's not specific step play. It's when you can just adjust your offense to get a better look for someone. That's what kinetic needs to do because I think a lot of her shots and I have to look at them a lot of her shots probably come off set plays. I know they run, they usually run a stagger for her or a pin down for her to start the game. And so I like to see her just get more opportunities to cook football. Get a ball in the high in the high post. Maybe a little high low action or just clear up. You know what? Never mind. Can we get out of the way? Let John go, go to work. And if she just needs to face up and watch what stewie and watch a Kansas is due to you on the other end. And then just do that. And I think they can definitely work that into their offense. I don't think that would be a big change, but they have done so far. And we'll see, I think a lot of this series is going to come down to is dewana bonner making shots. Is alys Thomas getting out and transition or those things happening. Those are the big questions, but if John quell can go off and kind of do what those other two great players in that series are doing or what the great player on the other side is doing, then you have a much better chance, I think. Right. And how they're getting their shots, right? Go get a bucket. It's not like that. Let's create the spaces. On the offensive end, you know, through a set or not, is it four out one in? Let's do that, okay? Well, then do it, right? Feed her the ball, let her make a read with it, right? If they collapse on her, let her make a read. And then bonner, if that's your side, you kick it out, right? And hit that shot. You got to make those rhythm shots. You got to make those reads. You got to play together. And not that I'm not saying they're not playing together, but I'm just saying, even in a four out one in situation, it's not just for John wall to shoot it. That's what I mean. You got to make a read. And you have to be ready to knock that shot in. You got to be shot ready because you know maybe they will bump off somebody or shadow down, right? And you got to be able to make that breed and make those shots. Yeah, I think that's the read and playmaking part of it is something that John quo can get better at and she'll need to develop that, but I think for now, she can definitely, like you're saying, create the space for her and let her go to work. And then she'll figure it out. Yeah, and the rest of the team will, too. It's got to be everybody. That's what I'm saying. Everybody's got to be on the set. Everybody got to be on the same page. Of course. No, so I think this series though, if I had to guess, I picked Chicago. I think you picked Chicago as well. I did. And then you

"Courtney van der salut starting to hear like, go, go, go, don't lie, don't let up. Yeah, you won, but don't let up. You're on pace for 30. That must have been a conversation because as soon as van der sloot did the quick math and could see that she was on pace that she could make 30. She was like, don't worry about winning. She just kept kept going. And really kind of pushed her forward and said, go, you can get 30 and I love that. I thought that was a lot of fun. It's fun watching quickly shoot baskets. It's fun watching Vander salute react to quickly shooting baskets. Just as much. So that was a blast. One of my favorite quotes from the entire weekend. Came from Ali quig leaner in her interview afterward. Saying, get in the gym and shoot till your arm falls off. Get in the gym, shoot till the arm falls off. I love that. I think that's just, I think that's fantastic. It's one of my favorite things. And I hope that there are boys and girls across America heading into gyms and shooting to their arm falls off. And just following exactly what she said. Getting some comments here on our Twitch channel, yes, we are recording this live on Twitch. We always do. It's been a little bit since we've been active on Twitter we've been doing some other stuff and we've been doing midday streams and things like that. So not as many people in here today, but that's just fine. I'm getting some comments though. Yes, Ariel Atkins always holds her own. And I will never ever go against make a call against. If you heard me, which some of you didn't, a lot of you didn't. We were actually following this and watching this together on playback. We had a little watch party on playback. So I know some of you were there watching along with us. Those of you that weren't. I have made a determination to never, ever go against Ariel Atkins. Because when she was drafted, I famously said she is going to be a bust. I can guarantee she's going to be a bust. I don't like the pick. When she got drafted, I was just really, really harsh. And I just didn't see it. She's done nothing but be phenomenal. Since she's been in the league since it's just makes she just makes me eat plates and plates and plates of crow. And I'm cool with it because I think that I think there's something too that when you make commentary on a leak like we do. When you make when you make commentary like we do on a, on a league on players and we're gonna take some we're gonna make some probably extensive and bold predictions and I really thought the aerial Atkins wasn't gonna make a good league transition and ever since then you will not find a bigger aerial Atkins fan, maybe then probably other than her own family because I absolutely love Ariel Atkins. I love that when I made that call, she shut me up and ever since then. I'm working my way through getting merch from each team. I gotta get a mystics, I gotta get some mystics swag right now. That's my next team in the rotation. I will likely get an aerial Atkins Jersey. Just because I just had to. So anyway, that's, you know, you all know how that night went. Let's talk about those were some positives. Let's talk about some negatives because there were some of those. First of all, had we actually made the effort, and it wasn't for lack of effort. Had it been feasible, had it been both schedule wise and monetary wise, more available and we could have made it to the actual all star weekend itself. And then we miss and then we would miss out on the skills challenge and three point contest because it was a closed or invite only type situation. I would have been very frustrated. When you call it all star weekend, but the only thing open to the public is just the All-Star Game itself. Not the skills challenge, not the free concert that was put on, not the three point content. When all of those things are invite only and you got people flying in from around the country to come to this thing, I don't know. I think that's wrong. I think it's wrong. And I understand that when trust maybe wasn't available. First of all, there's 8 different rants that I could go on about that. If you pick the city and the figure out venues, if you're going to figure out where it's going to be, you got to have a venue. If you can only do it in like a small convention center in a few bleachers and that's all you can do, don't hold it there or move the date or do something. You can't expect to alienate an entire portion of your fan base who has made sacrifices time and money sacrifices to get to the weekend and then not have the full weekend available. It just only have one game available. I think that's wrong. I think it's completely wrong. I hope that that changes in the future, but it really, maybe it's just me. But it makes me take pause on making the investment to get out to some of these other all star weekends in the future. If I can't guarantee to see everything that the weekend has to offer, why go? If it's only just going to be for one game. Now again, the one games probably still worth it, but I don't know. I would feel very frustrated and probably ripped off a little bit. If that were the case, if we'd gone out for it and we weren't able to attend. So that's all I'll say on that because there's been plenty said all over Twitter about it. There you go. There's my take, a little bit of frustration there. Let's head back into the positive side of things and chat about the actual All-Star Game itself. The big the big game, right? This was a ton of fun team Stewart and team Wilson with their co captains, Sylvia fowles. That's just a ton of fun. Being able to have that have those together Sue and Brie Anna Stewart on the same team and then Asia and Sylvia files together. That's a lot of fun. I think that's a blast. I was a little, I was a little bummed that the game ball, this is what we're getting, we're getting to the end of the game. The game ball, they only had one, and they gave it to sue. Who then probably headed over and handed it to false. Have two game balls. You gave out two sets of flowers, you know? Stewie and Asia both brought out sets of flowers for Sue and Sylvia, but if you got a game ball, don't just give it a one of them, get two game balls. It's not that hard to play a first half. Second half, two different game balls. Give it the two of them. It's an All-Star Game. You gotta be able to see things like that through. That being said, man, it was a fun game. There were some really cool things happening. John quill Jones dropping 29 only to just barely be beat out for that MVP trophy by Kelsey plum. Maybe she took some of that Asia Wilson attitude and Asia Wilson's comments on Twitter to heart because she came out, she went 12 for 18 from the field, including 5 for 11 from behind the three point line. Big time big time game there. Some other big performances obviously. With 19.6 assists 6 rebounds, so a really solid well rounded line there. John quill Jones 29 points, 13 rebounds in 5 assists. Sylvia fowles in her last All-Star Game came away with 7 points and 9 9 boards and Sue bird didn't score. She went over three from the field, had one rebound, but 6 assists. She just seemed to be out there just facilitating having a lot of fun. Shakespeare didn't play a ton of minutes. She only played 15 minutes. Which I can looking on her team, there's only one, two, two players that Emma messa Thomas only played like 13 and a half minutes. Neca aguma became technically played two seconds less than super. So but everybody has played a lot more deer can be only got 9 minutes just under ten minutes. So she didn't play a ton either. But yeah, overall, it was a fun. It was an awesome game.

"Britney grinder. Because we haven't said that yet this episode, because we haven't talked about the mercury, but free Brittany griner will say it every episode. Spend almost a 140 days since she's been wrongfully detained in Russia, free her. My stock watch team, Connecticut's son. You know, a team that coming in yes, I know they lost January this off season, which was going to impact their defense. Yes, I know jazz Thomas goes down with a season ending injury. This is even before that. This was not the Connecticut sun defensive team that we've seen over the past years. Now, I know Owen and probably most people are saying, what are you talking about? They held the Washington mystics to 17 points in the second half last game. Force the game to overtime. Yeah, I'm aware of that. I still stand by what I said. The Washington mystics going cold spells. That's not shocking to me to happen. What is shocking to me is that this Connecticut sun team in my opinion at least with a team that probably has up there as the most, you know, I'm blinking on the word lack of turnover. And this team knows each other. This team's been together forever, and I know this is kind of been the narrative of like it's now or never, but I just feel like we're at a situation where it's now or never. This team really needs to kick itself into higher gear. I know there's still in the top four top 5 or top three even in most of the team statistical categories, but this team seriously scares me. They're extremely close to being my down team this year or this week. Even though they're my preseason picked when the finals Owen, who's your stock watch? Just a brief word I know we're running long, but you know what? It's just one of those episodes. Gotta do it lot to talk about, but a brief word on Connecticut. It's funny because it's like we're seeing kind of the exact same thing that happened last year. Now, obviously, Alyssa Thomas did not play last regular season, but Connecticut has the best net rating in the league right now, you know, the advanced stats say they are still the elite. And yet the same concerns are there that were there in the playoffs last year, which is in watching that game down the stretch yesterday, which was just an awesome game against Washington. Which Connecticut wins by two and overtime is the same thing. The defense is absolutely stifling when it matters. The offense begs the question if John quill Jones is not getting enough touches down the stretch and does not have enough space to operate does something have to change because you gotta utilize the MVP as much as you can and put her into situations where she can carry you offensively in the biggest moments. My stock watch, throwing you for a little loop this week because guess what? We only got three days of games and only one game tonight. I'm excited to watch them. Stock watch for this week team Wilson. I know it's, I know it's a glorified scrimmage, all right? I know it's, I know it's just chucking up threes and this and that. I know it's not serious, but it is all star weekend. This weekend, it is in Chicago, the home of Candace Parker, the goat, the defending champ. And really, the reason why I want to watch this, when else are we going to get to see Candace Parker, Sylvia fowles and Asia Wilson on the same team. Like, come on. Not to mention that we've got also on this team. Like I just want to see, even if it's kind of in the way that all star games are super fun and casual and no defense being played, I want to see some crazy flute dimes to like three absolute legends. And, you know, obviously I just think it's cool that Candice and silver are on the same team here given how much their stories have kind of been intertwined over the years and how they really are just like two of the greatest to ever do it. So I'll have fun watching that game. Teamwork. On gun to your head, who's winning all star MVP? Oh, that 5 good four. Question three. Oh, two. Hand is Parker. Oh, all right, I'm going see, in my mind, it's Jackie younger, Kelsey plum. I'm going Kelsey plum. Okay, I love it. See, that's the thing like, you know, a gunner makes a lot of sense. Like Kelsey can just pull up and do crazy things and plus she's playing with Candace and salute to the greatest passers ever. So I like that pick. And you know what? Maybe Candace is gonna really take it easy 'cause, you know, she's 36 and this game doesn't matter. I just think the narrative it's like, you know, come on. It's too perfect here. And she's she's good for an All-Star Game. I want to see some no looks, some behind the backs. I want to see some vintage one legged fadeaways. I don't know. I'm going Candace. But I like the plum pick. I'd love to see Jackie when it obviously one of my faves. So can't wait. What we'll be back next week with dummy MBA stocks for myself are a Schwartz and Owen Pence discussed the market in the W.

"Owen, we're back with WNBA stocks where we check the pulse on the WNBA market where the teams who's going up, who's going down, we also got to do our stock watch, which has become a fan favorite. I know both you and I are getting a little bit of the allergy bug right now. So listeners excuse our weird noise voices or nasally voices or whatever it is. But you know what? Stocks don't stop because you got a runny nose. How you doing? And should we start with up or down this week? I say, you know, I'm doing well. I'm congested. You can likely hear it. But we're pushing through. I say we start with stock up, right? I mean, the allergies have us a little down, so let's balance things out here. All right, cool. You know what? I'll go first. No, no. Owen, I think last week I went first, so this week you go first. Who's your stock up to? Let's do it. My stock up team is and I think if I'm not mistaken, then this is the only team we haven't featured yet in WNBA stocks. We've got week four here. So we're making it all the way around. My stock up is the Indiana fever, a team I'm extremely excited to talk about this week. You know, arguably the biggest news in the well, I'm not gonna say arguably because a lot is going on. There's a lot of, there's a lot happening in the W but isn't that always the case. But one of the biggest stories of the past week since we last spoke was Marianne Stanley head coach of Indiana fever, no longer currently replaced by interim Carlos Knox. Stanley came in a few years ago, began her tenure with Indiana in the bubble. And it's been a weird, it's been a weird few years for Indiana. We all know they're kind of like the punching bag along with Dallas of the league. There's more jokes made about the fever than anyone else over the last 5 seasons. They have the longest active playoff drought, but enough with the negatives because the vibes are too good with this team right now. And I think that kind of the last maybe piece of the puzzle to really start to turn things around and feel like, okay, we're ushering in a new era here. Was to make a coaching change. This was a team that just really had an incredible draft. So tamika catching who's obviously legend Hall of Famer champion. Was not the best general manager for this team. And that's putting it kindly. Lin Dunn came in this off season and really had an incredible draft. I mean, I would say that Lexi hall at 6 overall was like one of the biggest head scratchers for everyone. But, you know, and the jury's still out on that one. But you look at the rest of her selections, I mean, they got four players who are real WNBA players, like starters, rotation players really impactful players. To get four in the same draft when you're in a stage as a franchise where it just feels like you're treading water and you're not winning games, but you also don't have enough youthful energy to come in and not just draft four players who are immediately making an impact and the four players, by the way. The list is Smith, second overall, who's been out recently, but just got healthy. Emily engler at four who's been really incredible. I tweeted out a stat the other day that engler's among the league leaders in total rebound percentage, like among Asia Wilson city of fowles, John quill Jones. I mean, it's truly remarkable how impressive she's been on the boards. They got queen ECMO at ten who's been awesome. One of my favorite players to watch this year, and then obviously they got the steal of the draft, the national champion, destiny Henderson at 20. So this is a team that just added four players and that's without mentioning Lexi who, you know, could start to get comfortable with more shots and start to deliver. So I just think that the vibes are really good. I'm really intrigued to see what Carlos Knox brings to this club. I loved what I saw in his first game. And this team is just kind of rolling right now a few quick stats here. I know I'm rambling. Kelsey Mitchell shooting 43% from three point land. Victoria Vivian's on almost 5 threes a game is at 36%, which isn't a knock your socks off number, but just for her to be healthy and hitting shots is huge. This is a team that was like, you know, had one of the lowest paces of play for years and years. Their second in the league in pace right now. So they're running up and down. And it just fits with the whole ethos of this team right now, which is energy and kind of vibrant, vibrant youth all around. Talking to the team when they came into New York and won earlier in the season when Stanley was still the head coach. It was very evident how how good the vibes were. Everyone was just like, man, these are such fun young players. The vets were just so enthused by the energy that the rookies were bringing. And that stuff is really infectious and it's huge for a team that's just been had such a bummer of the last handful of years. So Indiana does not have to be winning games and I don't think they really want to be winning games for their stock to be up. They just have to have these young guys playing and playing a lot and getting reps and that's what's happening right now and it's really exciting to watch. Yeah, no, I agree. I mean, there definitely a team that's found success and it's not just decided by the win column, which I think is a huge change for this team that, as you mentioned, I mean, I think you put it perfectly when you talked about how they were the laughing stock this league, but that's no longer the case. They haven't gotten it completely turned around where they're winning every game. They've had some really close games. Some tough games. I mean, they lost by 5 to the defending champions, and they showed with Melissa Smith back in this lineup, we saw that against the sparks when she was able to really put the team on her back at points in the game. Not only is this team growing culture wise, but they're making the right turn. They're turning the corner as it were. In the play also. And I think a huge underrated aspect is Gary koppenberg joining the coaching staff midseason. Klopp is somebody who is a proven winner throughout his history in this league, but also I think it's important to bring in when you have a new coach when you are kind of doing a reset mid season. It's not a full reset. It's important to bring in voices, new voices that have been part of winning culture that can kind of age you along in that process. So I mean, look, it's a happy day if you're the Indiana fever, not just because you beat the LA sparks. But also because of how good of a game it was against the Chicago sky, but then also on top of that, I think the Indiana fever fan base from the people I've spoken to and what I've seen online, very excited about the direction of this franchise and I don't want to throw any shade, but let's just say they don't miss Marion Stanley right now. Let's talk about my up team. The Dallas wings, a team that is going to be fluctuating, I think, throughout this season. We're going to see highs and lows. This team's one and one in their last two games. And two in one in the last three, they beat the links handedly. They showed why this team is a threat in this league because right now, Marina mabry is just shooting crazy, right? Like the confidence is through the roof. She's playing as if she's been like a 5 time all star been to the playoffs most her career. That's just like, honestly, if you talk to me, right now, the star of this team is her and not a rique. I mean, a Riga has been having great games, but when Erika has been slowing down a little bit, it's been the other player stepping up. And I think what we're finally starting to see in this roster is kind of a cohesion with each other and understanding great teams have great players, yes, and.

"Up all those stats because you are clearly you clearly prepared more for this podcast than I did because I had no stats for a reelection, but yeah, 7% of the room feels like it's just not going to cut it for that prototype of player. If you're going to be that alpha score or even that number two to Elena delle donne when she's healthy and you're not a three level score if you're not scoring at the rim. That's one of the levels so yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, so and also it just opens up everything, right? Like as soon as she gets down there, there's going to be passing opportunities, especially if when this team is fully healthy, their shooters all around there. And then there's everyone that can get downhill. You have cloud. You have Heinz Allen. We'll see if how healthy a landel done is to see how healthy Elise Clark is, but an ideal world of everything goes, well, it'll be 5 out. Everyone gets their own finish. I think Ariel's gonna be really pushing that. So yeah, I'm glad I'm glad you picked her too. Because I feel like she, I don't think she gets overlooked, but she doesn't get talked about as much just because she's kind of more quiet. Especially with the way the seasons have gone for the mystics since the championship, I think she hasn't quite gotten enough credit for the development that she's had. No, I agree. I think this might be the year where she finally starts getting talked about in that way. Yeah, and shouts to RiRi, though. Did you have you seen any ruby highlights? I've seen a couple, yeah, not enough. This is a lot more tonight, but I'm excited. She like, I think she's gonna have a if I had to pick, I wish this was a prop. If I had to, if I had a prop bet, I'd say she's going to have one travel. Today. Just because 0.5 travels. Over 0.5. Over 0.5. I think she'll have one because there's just like times where so she's brilliant. She was like a brilliant basketball player, but she sees things like ahead of her teammates and she can't communicate with them. Because she doesn't speak English, so it's like, she was like, oh, go there, and then my giants island that has no idea what she wanted her to do, so it's like, oh, travel. So it happens sometimes, but I'm excited for, I'm excited for Ariel. I hope this team is healthy just for the love of God, the love of God. Please make the selfie, please. Definitely. Do you want to go on? Do you want to go into our next one? Or do you want to do you have anything else in the mystics? No, let's go on. Let's take the next one. All right, my next one is dewanna bonner. In Connecticut. I had a couple of choices on Connecticut. I just think Connecticut's fascinating. This is the first time we're going to see bonner with the full strength sun for the entire season. Obviously we saw that team together for four games last year. Four games where they lost to the Chicago sky in the semifinals. So things did not go great in that very small sample size. This team should fit together but I think someone's going to have to change. Someone needs to sacrifice because you have a list of Thomas. You have John quill Jones and you have to want to honor. You could say, hey, Jasmine Thomas, Brianna Jones, you two sacrifice, but they don't really have high usage to begin with. So that's not where you're getting it from. Bonner's usage in Connecticut both seasons has been very high. I mean, it was 27.3% in 2020, 23.9%, 2021. Her shooting dipped a little bit last year, but went up from three, so it's just like, you know, we've seen her be a perfect option when she a perfect third option in a Phoenix with griner and with Tracy. Which was great. But can she can she be that player in an efficient role again? Does she want to be that player and then the fishing role again? Where does she see herself in the hierarchy of this team? Is that going to, how does Kirk and manage all that? I think of Courtney Williams coming off the bench and it's like, well, a lot of bonners production in the past couple of years have been running with bench units and keeping those units afloat offensively. So now you're kind of taking that a little bit away from her too, so it's like, how do you get her enough touches so that she is being productive and can she be more efficient so that she doesn't need as many touches. So that's why I think bonner is really, really interesting. I think she'll have a huge part to play in the title race this year. Yeah, correct me if I'm wrong, she was the third.

"Now, Logan, let's talk about this Connecticut sun roster because. Well, before we have in Russia, let's talk coach, all right. We're going to have sort of a cadence with each of these teams. We're going to talk like their last season. We're going to talk about their current coaching situation. And if there were any changes. In that case, I know I'm cutting you off. This is what you get for this is the first one, which means I think we should talk a minute about the playoff series. I don't want to stay on it too long. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm done with that. They played the eventual champion Chicago sky in the playoffs. And remember, that series was a lot closer than you probably think. They lost three games to one, but the first game went to overtime. The second game they actually won, the third game they lost by three. In the pivotal, that really felt like I thought game four wasn't quite as close and they looked done after that. But this is a team that without Eliza Thomas went toe to toe with the eventual champion Chicago sky and easily that overtime game in that three point game they could have tilted the other way. The Connecticut sun have been really close to championships for a couple years, but last year really felt like we had the MVP, they had a great regular season. Chicago just got it going on at the right time, but that was a better playoff series than I think people might realize and I hope that they go back and see like, oh, without Chicago's tear, it would have been the sum of the year. They really were one or two possessions away from being from actually making the finals instead of Chicago. So I'm glad you brought that up because Chicago was looking to kind of tear through just about everybody in the playoffs and the Connecticut sun were kind of their lone team that really gave them a ton of fight. Because even in the finals, they were beating Phoenix pretty, pretty convincingly, but I'm glad you mentioned that because yeah, Connecticut did give a really strong fight to that eventual Chicago sky, which just kind of seemed to be a team of destiny at that point. So let's chat a little bit of roster and coaching that not much changes for the Connecticut sun from last season to this season. They keep their coaching staffs pretty well all intact. And their roster really didn't have a ton of moves. They've pretty much just stayed with what they've got and stayed with. They've had in the past. With really kind of two major changes from last season's team. The first of those being the return of Alyssa Thomas and what's even more impressive about the sun's season last year was that they were that dominant without who many people argue to be like their second best player. I think you might say John quill Jones, you know, an MVP caliber type player would be obviously your best player, but Alyssa Thomas, she's right there. It's like a one a one B type situation. And by a Connecticut standard, she's probably all WNBA. Easy is a star. Absolutely. And she didn't play last season. She was recovering from some injuries, getting a few things taken care of. So she will be returning to the floor this year. Not only that, but if you could pick a single spot and they were pretty solid across all 5 starters, but if you could pick one area to maybe improve on, it might be in your guard play and they bring in Courtney Williams. They bring back, I should say. Bring back Courtney Williams, who's played in Connecticut before after a short stint in Atlanta has returned to the Connecticut sun and will be shoring up and bringing even more dynamic play to a backcourt that by no means was lackluster in any way, but again, is probably the lone area that you could upgrade if you were going to upgrade this team. So bringing back your second best player and upgrading at point guard Logan. How are you feeling about this Connecticut son going into this season and should do Connecticut sun fans have every reason to be just excited out of their minds and thinking this really is gonna be the year that they break through. Yeah, I know it's tough when you've been let down probably four seasons in a row now when you're sealing is legit contender and you haven't been able to get it done. But this is the one good team that I'm actually fine that they did pretty, pretty minimal in the off season. They didn't need to completely go under the hood and retool this team. John Cole Jones is going to come back probably be another MVP candidate this year. Courtney Williams is going to solve their weak point at guard, like you said, Alyssa Thomas, I think is going to solve a lot of they already had the league best defense last year by opposing points per game, but I think she's going.

"Next week, I don't know. We'll figure out what we're gonna do because I'm sure something crazy is gonna happen this weekend. Yeah, but the free agency. Oh my gosh, always a blast. Oh my God, we, of course, I'm sorry. Come on back. No, so I did want to mention one thing before going off court side. Cut the lights out. We were about to do it. Rachel's alligator reported that, but this might be on the transactions list. But Rachel Gallagher reported that the son have core John Paul Jones, so she can not negotiate with other teams. Yeah. So it's official. Official official nice, the Connecticut son John quill Jones, so she can not negotiate with other teams making more likely that she would be back in Connecticut. Of course she could force our way out through a trade like a song Natasha Howard dude last year. He did. That's unexpected to happen at the moment. No. That's the last thing I got. Oh, that's all right, but that's good news, though, John 12 Jones. We'd love to see it. And I know the Connecticut sun fans are excited too. We have more women's hoops in front of us and that is going to be exciting to continue to chop it up with you guys next week about the free agency in the WNBA and obviously all the great things going on at the NCAA level and those top 16 seeds. We're going to see what they look like as conference play proceeds. But for right now, they're going to cut the lights out on us. We don't have to go home. But we had to get up out of here, Gabe. It has been a blast. As usual, sitting courtside with you, my friend, on this edition of courtside with Christie and Gabe, on the her hoop sets, podcast network, we will see you next time..

"Off season tracker. I mean, you look at it and I agree. I don't think it's the worst thing in the world if you lose January. January is a player that I agree with you with everything you said embodies the Connecticut. We're so disjointed without her. In the play. They were just they were disjointed in the playoffs at all. Regardless, I mean, things were just just out of. She did miss a big shot. True. True. Which is too much. I'm not gonna say like you drop a play, 'cause that big shot. What I'm saying is like end of the day, JJ is the queen. Sure. She's a hundred. She's the player you need. But end of the day, here's my thing. When I look at this team and I look at their roster, I go, okay, do want to bonner if you need a shot, she can get her shot in, but she's not gonna like, you know, create so much, right? Same with Jasmine Thomas, she's good as we've well noted. She's gonna have one really good playoff game during every season. Alyssa Thomas eventually is going to go cold. We've seen it every playoffs. JJ, are they going to be finally in that comfort level where they give her? I don't even know how to properly were this, so take this without any salt or any negativity, are they going to have the confidence in her to when the team is in a tough situation to finally just say we're giving the ball to our MVP? She's the MVP, we're giving her the ball and she's gonna carry us through this. We see that with many other teams, but throughout this whole season, we really didn't see last season. We really didn't see in my opinion enough of that where the team kind of started to spin its wheels and they continued to do what they did, which always caused success last season, but there was never truly that point of just feed the MVP. Just give the ball to the MVP and let her work and she'll carry us out of this slump. And when she starts making shots, everyone else will. So in my mind, you bring back Jones and then the serious conversation that Kurt Miller has to have with himself and his coaching staff is is there a guard out there that I don't think that there is a garter a wing who is going to give you the same high level of defense that January is going to give you. And I don't think but I do think that there is a guard out there who can give you better offense than January giving this team. Courtney Williams. Cody Williams going back. It's Courtney Williams going back. No, that would be, first of all, I'll say this, position wise, player wise, if they didn't have the falling out that, you know, on record. Whatever you want to say, that we've heard rumors about and whatnot and all that, then yeah, that would be a good fit. Honestly, other players I'm looking at, Tiffany Hayes might be a pretty good fit, right? I'm trying to think of who else on this, I mean obviously you avoid, but that's not a realistic one. Odyssey Sims. Ricano Williams? Yeah, Odyssey Sims. Maybe, I don't know. Want some names out there. Just throwing some names that I would not be mad about. Yeah, if Brown January, you know, ends up not. I've got to believe January returns and wants to be a part of what they're doing. I mean, my God, that would be so hard to pass up. But. I agree. I agree. It's one of those situations. You know, but can somebody else entice them over? I have to think that it's one of those situations where this roster is pretty much going to be set as the same as last year because in less something happens crazy with JJ. Even though I fully anticipate, not based on sources or anything like that, I'm not talking to sources when it comes to this stuff. But I have to think that this team runs it back. There are really close team their family, you know, the question is more so, what will get them over the hump? Right? That's the question that Kurt Miller is asking himself in the coaching staff. And do they believe that they would have gotten the reason they couldn't get over the hump last year was because of changing the equation so late in the season with Alyssa Thomas? Do they think that they just kind of burned out like two years ago when they lost to when they lost to Vegas? You know, what is the situation in their mind? You know what did they believe? I think that this roster is phenomenally built. I love this team. I love the longevity. I love the consistency. I think that's why they've been so good, but you know how it is like in order to win a championship. You also have to have a little bit of luck. And my God, if Connecticut has not faced some adversity from a health standpoint or just players coming and going and some things going, I mean to you to play that entire season last year without alysa Thomas and then being thrown into the mix so late in the season. I mean, that's Alyssa Thomas is such an important role and I'm not telling anybody anything they don't know and so I mean now I'm looking at this team looking at it and going man, you've kind of got a chance to test out this vision. Hopefully, knock on wood, that there's no major health concerns or major losses, so no, if you can find any type of way to bring it back, bring back everyone healthy and find a way to test out this vision consistently for the entire course of a season and see what you can do. Well, I'm not gonna, I'm not saying this next part just in the sense of like playing devil's advocate. I'm saying it for that, but also because it has been a topic a general idea that's been broached on social media that I feel like needs to be addressed. Does John Claire Jones say like the connection between Kurt Miller and his team and his roster is very close, that's obvious. Does John quill Jones say it's pretty clear to me that Alyssa Thomas is the favorite and that she's always going to get the ball in those like late game situations, or is it a situation where she doesn't feel that way? Because in my mind that's the only thing that can pull John quell away. Does she feel that she's not the MVP to her head coach? I think that's a fair devil's advocate approach. And question that could potentially, you know, I guess if there was anything, that's a very interesting take. It's also not ever going to be public, right? Like John Cole's insanely nice person, so is Kurt. Neither of them are going to go public and say, this is why it happened, but I do think that it's a possibility of a behind the scenes thought process. I think it comes back down to like, okay, we've established you as a top three player in this league, you're an MVP. Now it's about a ring, you know? And. I don't know this for sure, but I would imagine that it's got to be the focus of nearly everybody on this roster. Totally. Well, thank you, Rachel. Any final thoughts for log offer this episode? Nope, I'm good..

"Let's do it. I'm ready. All right. Rolling down the list of who is actively on the roster right now, including training camp contracts, to want to honor Alyssa Thomas Jasmine Thomas. Briana Jones, natisha item and kyla Charles Dijon Carrington and beatrix Mont premier. Now, this is where it's a very interesting one because one of the biggest names in the league. John quill Jones last year's MVP is a free agent. Now they have a nice amount of money left in their cap space. But this is where it gets interesting because the tisha hymens, training camp contract and mount premieres training camp contract do not count towards that 500 K left over. So realistically, you're looking more so at three something left over, right? Because if you add the in premiere's contract, that makes 1200. 1300, I apologize. At 1300, K minus the 500 K, so we're talking about, you know, less than 400 K to sign realistically thought wise, Brian January and John Paul Jones. So we're sitting there, we're going okay, how is this all going to work? How are they going to bring back this team? And to me, it's the pitch is easy for JJ, right? With like, as I say in all these episodes, players move for money or rings. JJ doesn't ever ring yet. This team can offer both. This team can say, hey, we have the number one team, we got a little mess up because it listed Thomas joined us late, but now we can have her for the whole season, knock knock knock on wood, that none of their players who are superstars overseas get injured. We hate that. But they can basically say like, how many other teams can offer you a nice paycheck and make you an MVP for another years. And offer you a ring. Not many other teams. The question then in my mind becomes because if I'm Kurt Miller, I'm throwing the whole piggy bank at John called Jones, and then you have a little less money for January. Does January try and take a bigger paycheck? Go somewhere else. Does Connecticut say, you know, we don't want to run it back. If I'm Connecticut, I am happy running it back, right? So I'm curious your thoughts on this team. I know you got your ear to the ground year to the pulse on this team like end of the day, I feel like it's not a crazy thought. You know, last year, this team played with like 8 people half the season ten people half the season, whatever it was because they had to eat at least a list of Thomas contract, but you know, talk to me about your thoughts on the Connecticut sun Rachel. I mean, I think first and foremost coring JJ moving towards paying her the max. I mean, come on. I mean, obvious. But yeah, I mean, I think an interesting fact is we have not really been able to see Connecticut test their full on vision of seeing, do want to Bond Alyssa Thomas and John Paul Jones. They've played together two regular season games over the last two seasons, which is a crazy fact to think about. So being able, like you said, knock on wood to see that big three together, healthy and consistently playing. We know Connecticut is going to be in contention and right there knocking on that door for their moment, assuming they can bring core John Cole Jones. But yeah, so then that poses the question of the two guard. Do you have JJ maybe unselfishly negotiate to take a bit less than the max so that Connecticut could attract a higher level starting to guard AKA potentially return January? I love January on Connecticut's roster. Her professionalism and her own ball defense. I mean, she exemplifies everything that Connecticut is about, in my opinion. I would be really sad. Excuse me if she does not return to Connecticut. But I think it's going to be really difficult for Connecticut to compete if others are throwing decent money in her. And I suspect that they will. So, you know, it's kind of like when we were talking about Chicago sky when you're talking about contention teams and teams that are really going after a championship who is willing to give and take a little bit in order to kind of keep this core together. And if you lose out on January, okay, well then that opens up the question of, okay, well, it is attractive for someone to go to Connecticut. In my opinion, because you've got an opportunity to go in as a starter right away and maybe even take a little bit less money, but you're going in as a starter and you're on a contender. So I think first and foremost, securing JJ and finding a way to bring back January has got to be the most ideal situation for Connecticut. Now, if you can't bring January back and JJ does sign for the max. Okay, what other guards out there to guards could fit that position that fit well with kind of what Connecticut is doing? And I think it would be appealing. I mean, I absolutely do. People who are looking for a championship and an opportunity to step in an impact right away, that's huge. I mean, there's a lot of players that can look at on the garden wings list on shameless plug. Win cider dot com free agency tracker.
