"Yeah, that's what they have it. It's a sexy car. I must say Yeah, and you're just gonna see you know many electric vehicles introduced this year. You know, Volkswagon, we're looking forward to one. The idea for Ah lot of other manufacturers. GM is that first version of the Hummer I'm going to come out with before the end of the year. That's just gonna be kind of a wacky, crazy pickup truck of a Hummer. Wow. All electric fouls in the horse power. You're just going to see a lot of these vehicles this year. At least that's what the manufacturer they're hoping. All right, real quick. One more about space excess StarLink, you could now pre order It's $99 a month Internet service, but John. It's like if you want this, which I'm fascinated by technology and the star length because it's for those that don't know. Space X launched all these little star links up there. They're gonna be rotating. Orbiting around the earth, and it's like direct TV. They're like satellites, you'll be able to get the Internet from the satellites. However, it's like $500 just to get the equipment to start this. It is so. But if you're in a rural area, which I spent about a half more than half my time in a rural area like that For many years. There's no other solution is no cell service. You're too far away. There's no cable. They're not going to string a cable to you Regular satellite. You know the direct PC and the things that have been around for years are much higher up. And the round trip is about 44,000 Miles. So the latent fee we have the delay in the signal's significant makes many things like Zoom calls, Difficulty and the speeds were just not there. It's John Queen. Our tech guru.

"Approaching Ah billion dollars there and money that's going to be given away. John Queen is set to join us here in just a few seconds. Our tech guru talking about the C E s. That's about to start. I think it starts on Monday. The 11th few other things you need to know this morning and of course overnight we were awaiting word on some of the results from the Georgia runoff. Raphael Warnock is projected to win that portion of the Georgia Senate runoff, feeding Kelly Leffler. Still waiting at Purdue and Oh, soften this point. Still too close to call club is police also investigating a double homicide while you you hear this is the first reaction I had to that overnight was come on. In this city. Just get a break from the crime. It were six days in and here we are. We've got two more work to eight now on it last year with a record breaking here for homicides at 1 74, certainly not off to a good start. Right now. What a welcome John Queen with the Sun News radio 16 w tvn Monday starts the grand Si es technology show John, but it's going to be different this year. Oh, yeah, It's Z a lot different. I mean, we're all used to going there. You know those of us who cover this to Las Vegas every January. You know, we've actually planned months in advance, set up meetings and go toe events and parties and lunches and it's a The year's biggest consumer electronic event, 170,000 people Not this year. Obviously, that's not gonna happen. No virtual. You know, John, I was curious, because I I'm I'm proud to say I am a nerd. Whether it's a tech nerd, I I'm a geek. I'm a nerd. I'm not a Chuck Norris. I don't know how to fight. But I would have to imagine that there were some killer parties at the C E s every year, Right, My right. Yeah, there being some really good ones over the years, you know, they hire a lot of celebrities. That's one thing you know. One year I watched part of a football game with Roger, Stop back. I was just hanging that burial Dallas Cowboys quarterback but you know they have bands will show up. They have private concerts and parties. You know everybody from Lenny Kravitz to the Foo Fighters I've seen there and they have you know, they really pull out all the stops, and it could be. I wrote a blip last year with Goodyear was in the blimp over Las Vegas. That was a lot of fun. You name dropper. I bet you have stories enough to write a book. Yeah, They're service. Yeah, they stay in Las Vegas. What happens there? Judge Crater Tech guru with this that NewsRadio 16 W TV, added the brand of boxers show, so I keep hearing the same theme at this year's. It's virtual, but robots are gonna be a big thing. They are going to be a big thing. You know, I remember years ago this this young guy have in the Boston area showed up this little device that was gonna vacuum your home the room, but I thought that that's pretty silly. Nobody's gonna use that. You know, Of course. Now, today, the last time I saw him was at a dinner about a year ago, and you know, he's the latest greatest thing. Every company that makes a vacuum or home appliance now has Something like a Nairobi hot room by or you know a copycat device, and it's just become a regular thing. And you're gonna see more of robots like that functional robots, but they're also trying to, you know, put them in his pets to serve automated pets. I'm not too keen on that, but they keep trying. There's gonna be more of those again this year. It's the Yeah, There's nothing can replace a real heartbeat. Although John, I'm looking at the Is it the moxie, the home school helper? Not gonna lie with that face. It's animated, but it looks creepy. That's looking at you. I do creepy. I take a lot of the robots are a little you know, a little creepy, even the ones that you know. Years ago, Sony made one that looks like a little dog Evo and I thought it's kind of cute, but it's still a little even know out of a dystopian science fiction movie affect. In fact, what was making the rounds A lot was a video. From the guys in Boston, this robotics company that makes him very advanced military robots. But love won dancing and approval. Probably seen that on that really creep. People out, John. What are some of the other things besides robots? That'll that'll be big for the C s this year. I think you're gonna see a Ryan know you're going to see bigger TVs. They're really looking at people moving from, you know, years ago as well, 32 inch set to its scent that 55 said, is pretty come. And now they're talking about this year 2021 as 85 inch TVs that a lot of people They think they're going to be moving to that guy's pretty Gigante. That's insane. It'll blind you, but But, John. Wow, How is the quality, though I mean I'm a big fan of Samsung, But when you get that big, it seems a bit distorted. It. Does you know you you've got to use other technologies deal. Seymour something called many led S, which puts more of these little lights behind the screen to light up the image in particular little areas more precisely. LG, which makes a lead such with everybody really loves. Oh, let's That's a very, very sharp but expensive They're actually going to come out with an LCD set with many ladies. Behind it, so they are applying new technologies to it. I don't think it's still the year for eight K, you know. Now TV's up its four K and Streaming services offer video. That's four K. Don't think eight K's the year in 2021 may be still another year away. Okay, Good to know. By the way, I though this starts Monday, the 11th. How can we be part of the CEO? How can we join virtually You'll see a lot of press announcements and Finn video announcements at company website starting on Monday. So that's sort of the main way that most people can participate or see things. Typically, the show in real life is only four people in the industry and press. It wasn't wasn't really for consumers to go to Unlike some other shows in Europe, where consumers go and try out products, it's just really sort of a business oriented show to make deals and to promote things were gonna happen in the next year, so it's going to be interesting that you'll be able to go to let's say Samsung side or or online no both sides for laptops and see actual video presentations. That would have normally bean at CS And One thing for me is is very much turned into an automotive show with autonomous cars and all the monitoring and safety systems, and there's no really way to do that. Virtually you can't demo those things to me Virtually so some of those announces they're going to be unusual this year. Well, if you're a part of that, then maybe you could give us the scoop next week and join us again said Cool. Absolutely, absolutely. Was definitely guru John Quaint and NewsRadio, 16 W. T. "Joins us for a few minutes. You can follow John j Dash q dot com Job's fascinating When you look at what's going on Mr Pandemic in this country. More and more people shunning mass transit don't want to be in the crowd. So you've got people that are looking at used cars. That market is gone. Zo bicycles too hard to find a bicycle to buy, especially a decent one. But then once you're on the biker like, man, this is a little dangerous from a tech perspective. Are we figuring anything out or we making little savior? For the bicyclists to be out there right in amongst the cars. A little bit. You know, there are some systems out there four cars themselves that you know the automatic braking systems that are in many cars these days. Some of those recognized bicyclists and pedestrians and some like there's a Volvo system, they will automatically brake the car for a cyclist. If it's a cyclist, and they're they're remarkably effective, you know, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety That can cut crashes between cars and bicyclist by about 35% else. That's pretty good that that's a big help. But if you're out there riding on a bike or you've been riding bikes to work, and now it's getting a little colder. So maybe you could back to the car. Something else. You've seen how dangerous it's gotten, and part of it is Teo. I've seen a lot of new cyclists out there. People are not used to riding a bike and remember the rules of the road and And drivers who are not used to seeing that many bicyclists on the road. So I was looking at a lot of technology. So I did this story. And you know there are things like flashing lights on helmets and stuff like that. Is it garment? Radar that a lot of cyclists used called Varia that just warns you that somebody coming up behind you, but you know, it's it's some help. It doesn't actually actively prevented, But it's In the meantime, I've looked at some technology where they're really looking at bikes, communicating with cars and cars communicating with bikes, So in other words, you have some automatic beacon on your bicycle that would use like the wireless cellular connection. And paying a car and say there's a bike in front of you about to come up, and that would help when you can't see bike circles around the corner, or if you're distracted by other traffic, and there's a cyclist up. You sort of hidden away that would really help me think a lot of drivers no doubt about it. It's It's fascinating to me, and I'm seeing it more because I drive to work in the dark. You see that flashing light? You see the reflective tape? Ah, lot Mawr in the last six months than I ever have come into work, and it's always fascinating. Just those interactions. You know, we've got a fair amount of bicycle paths in Columbus, and I don't know about anybody else. I feel like if I could get to work or close to work. I'm definitely taking the bike path. I am not riding on the road. Right. I mean, that is they're trying to put in more of these paths since the pandemic hit, you know, Cities all over the world. Paris Milan, New York City where I am Everybody's trying to put in more dedicated bicycle lanes in cities. You know, it's it's difficult. You can't really separate out the cyclist from the cars that they're still very close by that reflective gear. I talk to folks that track and cannon, Dale and specialized. They're all encouraged people to wear that kind of gear, and they make kind of clothing. It's not just a show off. It's actually you know. Well, not a lot of people look great and bike pants. Let's be honest. Yeah, that's not for me. I have to say, but this technology could really help. Now I talked to a guy I know to it. There's a council called Bicycle the vehicle and they'd be working with car manufacturers. And with bicycle companies and trying to come up with a standard because even if you alert somebody that a bicycle is ahead when autonomous feels close, come along, you're gonna have to know how is that bike going to behave? And depending on what kind of bicycle you're riding, it can have a turn radius that's different from another bicycle, or it could be faster or slower or could be a scooter. So you have to have more information involved as well. So it gets a little complicated if you look further down the road well, but again, at least the tech is there on that's hopeful for everyone involved, whether you're driving or riding good stuff, Jake you we appreciate it much. John Queen, our tech guru. Maybe. See six. First one meteorologist Indra Buck Michaela's. You were heading out the door today Take the rain gear. Zoom fatigue who wouldn't know? Well, anyway, Tell me what you know about Tic tac. Is that deal closed up or we were still waiting for the next year to drop. Hi. We're waiting to see what happens. I mean, it's completely up in the area of the latest thing is, the Chinese government says We're not going to approve the sale anyway. So you know it's extortion, etcetera, etcetera. And it is kind of the strangest thing that ever has happened in a way. I mean, you know, this is like the little dance videos. It seems pretty frivolous to most of us, but about 200 million people. Something I've, you know, downloaded this app. It's wildly popular on DH. You with the younger generation so but you know, and this whole idea of banding it or making an American company. Look, there are dozens of Chinese apse on people's phones. You know, they're produced in shiny just don't realize it, and they do much more invasive things in terms of privacy and security. So it is essential big deal. Probably not. No. All right. We get told, though, that it's a national security issue that that information goes overseas gets in the bad guy's hands, and they can use it against us. That's well, I mean, they could. You know the Chinese government could at any time if it's a Chinese company asked him to divulge information they can issue basically, you know, demand that they see information like that. There's always that threat. But like I said, there's so many other Chinese APS. There's so many things produce there that You know, filling this one out is probably more just because it's so high profile. You know, we chat the other day is the other app that they're concerned about, and that's primarily used by people who speak Chinese. And one communicate back Tio China from the United States and other places, and so is used by about 28 million people here or something in that order, But you know something like that. Is that being used to transfer you know, it's probably being used to track people who are child. Aeneas, who have moved to the United States from that government. It's not so much invasive in that said so. The other issues, absolutely their security issues. But what happens with this sale? I mean, now we're onto Oracle in Walmart on who's gonna buy it? And you know Microsoft is in this Just like a lot of money. We're talking a company that makes about a billion dollars this year. Something like that. Well, yes. Oh, there. Of course there's going to be A lot of interest from big players. So that may be complicated. Talking to our tech guru John Queen John. Tell me, you know, with the pandemic still on. Ah, lot of people still freaked out even about touching stuff. I mean, I had a piece earlier this week that pine Sol now has been given the green light if you got to Corona virus on a hard surface. Use the pine Sol 10 minutes later. You're clean and good to go. So imagine there's runs on Pine Sol all over, but I would imagine Touchless Tech is probably gaining some football. I mean, I try to think about, you know, just my life here at the radio station. We have touchless faucets. You wave your hand under it, Boom. You get the towel. You don't touch anything. They could use that for locks. Gas pumps like they could use that really all over couldn't make They can, actually, Yeah. I mean, that's the interesting thing about it to me is that I I had installed and written about touches Fox Kitchen deposits from Kolar has a whole line of touchless models, for example, that you can install yourself They cost about $300 for a little bit more in, you know, big box retailers, their places and the crisis and he is great. If you're cleaning meet are handling food, raw food, and then you gotta wash your hands. You don't have to actually touch anything and then clean that surfaced and I don't know about you. I forget. Did I wash my hands and I touch something else on then I'm back washing my hand again, so it gets a little tiresome and some of this technology helps smart locks, the other thing that people are using the creek said. Yale. These companies have smart locks that our wireless that connect to your phone. So when you walk up to them of your front door, recognizes you and unlocks the door automatically. Cedo, if you're if you're carrying groceries, for example, that it just makes it more convenient. Not just about transmitting the virus, but just making life kind of easier. The gas truck thing I just forgot the other day. I just looked at this. I pulled up to a station at night. They wouldn't accept my credit card. I had all this half aware that I had to go inside. They're going to pay for the gas and then come out and do all this definitely realized. Oh, it responds to Alexa. I could've used election so that Exxon Mobil stations across the country something like 11,000 of them. Now you can do that through your phone or through your car. If you're signed up with Amazon. What happens is you use Alexa. To select the gas pump and select the grade of gas and to pay for it. And it goes through the whatever car you put Amazon. You still have to pump the gas itself. You mean self touch that but it does reduce punching your number and a zip code and all that stuff, you know? Yeah. I mean, it makes sense. And I mean, who doesn't have their phone on him? 24 7. So this stuff I mean, as long as you got your phone, which everybody does all the time. It makes perfect sense, right? It doesn't. They're going to see much more of that enabled now and people getting used to using it. I'm even even on your own phone. The fridge free you can use Siri, for example, on your iPhone. You don't have to pick it up or touch it. You can enable it and just say, Call my guys. Siri, call my daughter, and it will and it. You know, after a while, it really recognizes your voice. So other people can do that. So, you know, using those More and more. I think people are going to be enabling it more more. Getting much more used to that. Sal is absolutely like That's the cases. I mean, along into until we have the robot uprising will be fine. Right, And I was looking for whatever device replaces a phone card of carry around a phone. Okay, We'll work on that and give us the full report. When you find out John claim there he's our tech guru always has the good stuff. "Our model was designed to protect us and our players from the cases in the outside community. Maybe at the time we designed it. We didn't think it would be a necessary as it is now, but at least we're preparing for Silver did say, however, that if when they begin in Orlando, there's an outbreak among teams there they would be prepared to stop the season. Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets report several players or team personnel members have tested positive They have temporarily shut down their practice facility. Former Ohio State basketball star J. Shaun Tait was planning to play for the Big X team. At the upcoming TBT tournament in nationwide, But he's tested positive data who's a pro in Australia picked up the virus while training in Houston recently another former Buckeye on that Big X team, Keyshawn Woods is out. After he tested positive. Earlier this week, more members of the Big Ten's all decade football team unveiled and four Ohio State offensive linemen were honored, including current all American Wyatt Davis. He is a first teamer. Davis, the only active player to be selected so far. Also on the first team, Billy Price, while Pat Elf Line and Taylor Decker were second teamers and NFL, Ohio State and Pickering Tin product. Davon Hamilton, third round pick A Jacksonville on the draft in April. Signs of four year rookie deal with the Jacks from the Central High Ohana dealer. Sports desk. Matt McCoy, whose radio 6 10 W t V 7 40 for a couple minutes. Now with our tech guru John Queen, you can follow him at J Dash Q. Dot com and you're talking e bikes this morning. I don't know that I've seen an awful lot of those putting around central Ohio but other places. These things are hot. They are. They are very hot. You know, it started out as a sort of well, it's not a real bike because using electronic assist, um well, you're not getting the exercise, but, um, really taken off. These banks have, like basically a battery on them. If you haven't seen them in in the rear hub, usually in the rear have there's a motor and it gives you an assistant gives you like a boost and it's going to be really sophisticated so that you almost don't even notice the assist. It could be really helpful, though, if you're doing things like community To work and you don't want to show up sweaty and you know that little bit of help to get up of the last pill or to get to work in a suit or, you know, office here, it can be really beneficial. So they've really, really taken off in prices have really come down. Yes. So I mean, what's the difference between that? A small motor cycle of Vespa. You know those kinds of things. Why wouldn't you just go ahead and pick one of those inside one of these while you could? I mean, absolutely. But for those who need a motorcycle licence usually need a special license for that. I let my motives like the life was lapse years ago. Eso device or a lot cheaper to now and get for about $1400. You know, really good e bike One I'm testing right now is a new one from charges. The name of the Company and its ships in a box right to your home. All you gotta do is take it out of the box and put the front wheel on that. It's pretty much just and and it was light enough. I mean, often these bites of light enough. Your office will have a place to store them. Maybe upstairs or, you know, some even collapsible bike could be taken into the office. So now you're talking about you can avoid public transportation. You can get to work without spending any money on gas. You know, it's your own private way to get there and you do get some exercise. And you do mostly spikes. You have to pedal as well. It gives you some Elektronik assist, though. That's the idea. Well, it's nice, though. I mean, you're not totally stranded. I mean, if the thing runs out of juice, you can still pedal somewhere. Where if you're in your car, you're out of gas. You're out of gas. Exactly. That's a very good point. You know that they last, maybe 25 to 40 miles Elektronik assist on a battery charge. But there are all kinds of bikes now specialized giant Give Al. These really popular brands have some really nice looking bikes that all our e buy some of them. You can't even tell because the batteries in the tube so it's invisible. Somebody can tell that you're riding any bike. They may not know and they're even cargo bikes. A lot of places now are using these bikes. And delivery services reduces traffic congestion. You put a lot of groceries and stuff on some of these cargo bike. It's pretty amazing, you know down and you say the one your test. It's about 1400 is that kind of a ballpark or most of more expensive? You know, A lot of them are more expensive. About $1400 is sort of the cut off point. The bite from charge, I think is a really good model and has the right kind of gear is from Shimano on the right motor, and it's well built. You get below that dollar that you get into some lesser, you know, parts on some of these bikes but specialized. If you like mountain biking. They have mountain bike service giants and great mountain bikes for the assist Recent Mueller have these cargo bikes, a German company. There are The cost of a motorcycle, one of them and there are collapsible ones that go cycle company a guy from McClaren. You know the race car company need built this. He designed this bike. It's It's a collapsible bike. Very cool. So all different types from matter what you want it for you and and I mean, pretty durable. I mean, you see, still kind of the old 10 speed model with the really skinny tyres and you see You know, people that almost like do you want to do that beach kind of biking, The fat, tired bikes? Where does it fit? Kind of on the bike scale it because you know, there are some beach bikes in this in this category as well. And there, you know, $2200 if you get up into the specialized that are racing road by kind of style. They're like, $4500. Yeah, so I mean, but, you know, think about if you're buying a racing bike, or really A nice bike. That would be $2000 anyway, some of these bicycles without the so you gotta look at it that way. And also, you know if you're going to be using this bike everyday to commute to work, and then for fun on the weekends It's not so expensive. Then it looks like, well, yeah, I mean, way cheaper than a car and you know that bus pass around all the coffin people. I totally get where you're at their John great stuff, and we appreciate the visit John Queen. He's our tech guru. You can follow him. J Dash Q.

"For a few minutes right now John queen you can follow him at J. Q. dot com you had been one of the earliest guys ever to get a website J. Q. dot com I can't I don't know anybody else that has the two letter website yeah J. O. hyphen in between but yeah I got that they you know who has the I I've battled with way back in the day was actually for Johnny quest way you add they're sitting out as you know and I was like I almost had it all looks gave it to me this is a long time ago and then they decided no we will keep it what the letter is so John you know we're still in the throes of the pandemic of lot of people still working at home you know that the re opening the reawakening is kind of happening around the country and here in Ohio we're going through those growing pains as well how do you think of technology is going to play into that I mean you know we got a lot of people working from home and initially not so thrilled about it but now it's like Hey you know what this isn't so bad so you feel like more and more people are going to be a doing the remote work I definitely think so I mean that's one of the changes it nobody knows for sure what how we're gonna all emerge from there said the post pandemic world what it's gonna look like but one thing is definitely happening already and that is companies are saying Hey we don't have to have our entire work force in an office you know there's a risk to health care risk to people but also some people are finding as you said that it's not so bad working from home it's not for everybody clearly other people are kind of going a little bit wacky stay at home but companies like Twitter I got nationwide the big insurance company has already said look there are a lot of people that are they're going to keep working for us but they're not going back to an office in fact are going to close down some of their offices so that's one change and going along with that that means less traffic that means less people commuting back and forth to work the wasting your time going back and forth to work and that means less pollution you know there a lot of stories going Hey look at the the canals of Venice you could see the fashions are clear skies in India as a valet so there is there are repercussions like that well yeah I mean I got a report earlier this morning I think carbon dioxide right now seventeen percent less of it in the atmosphere than a year ago they say it's the lowest level since World War two that's right I saw that too and you know in the in the hopes of war well that may not last and and that's true it may not last that low but you know there's a lot of there are some encouraging signs if you have less people commuting to work that's going to drop things that you know the carbon emissions also in Milan and Paris Budapest Berlin New York City they try to put in more bike lanes people are now realizing Hey I could get to work on a bicycle and I can social distance on a bicycle I'm not near anybody and that might be a really good thing and it's exercise so all these years trying to promote this stuff and people wouldn't do it and now suddenly they're finding maybe they will change some of these things well you know when you think about that too if you're a bicyclist the fact that there are fewer cars on the road it seems to me like it would make it safer for you to bike so again it's it's all these things that kinda go together that start to make sense to people yes I think so I mean obviously you're smart city initiatives to which everybody's pretty familiar with it right there that's a huge thing that helps promote that I think in making the infrastructure more automated and gauge you know and safer in many ways for people but you're right about the cycling here in New York City a friend of mine as a nurse she was part of a co good ward and working on that and commuting to work every day on a bicycle she was going miles and miles and and she said yes it was safer and you know she definitely felt favor but you know that the other technologies are you know robot deliveries in economists vehicles you know there were people are gonna spend the money you know what we're worried about the economy shrinking course that's gonna happen for a time but people looking robot the liver is absolutely not such a strange idea making that can you know help with things as well yeah it's all it's all about delivery it seems right now you know restaurants you know doing stuff in in take out and carry out you know grocery stores you know you you email or you know you get online and you send in your order and then you just pick it up at the curb so it seems like a lot of that a technologically I don't know that I would say we've gotten smarter about it it's just different but technology is playing a huge role in how we're doing business now right I mean even in those warehouses that do all the deliveries in these big X. services they're automating more of that again with more robots to do things so there's less as one woman said is that a town outside of London England and children's center if you're a reporter there's no social interaction with the robot and that you know that true you know it's it's it's not as friendly in a way but and certainly a lot of Kinks to work out you know most of the robot can only deliver so much so many packages not very many and they have a limited range I can't go all day long on a battery charge but I think you'll see a lot more attention paid to that now a lot more money go invest in the technology no doubt about it to and those jobs will pop up to support it no doubt John great stuff as always John plane he's our tech guru you can follow him it's a J. hyphen Q. dot com seven forty give me just one minutes we'll get an
