"And for him Same thing i'll say something about him and wwe. I think today with the network the wwe network he would be such an asset to them. They they wouldn't know what. Hit them if mike. Tony came in there and took that thing over and help them out with their research. And what have you Let's talk about keith mitchell. Hey somebody who. We didn't touch on in a previous episode. He's been around the business forever. I think he I came to notoriety out at world class. And then it's been a lot of time in wcw and now you know. He spent quite a bit of time with tna. What was your experience like working with keith. It was my first time having the pleasure of actually getting to work with keith. mitchell was during my time at tna. now. I'd actually tried to hire keith mitchell on two different occasions over the years away from wcw tell our listeners. What keith did keith. mitchell was producer. A director and keith was the producer of the world class championship wrestling out of dallas texas for fritz von erich back in the day when world-class really exploded keith. Mitchell was the first guy. To utilize the microphones on hand. Held cameras and open up those mics in here inside the ring. What the referee was saying with. The talent were saying to each other and not spot calls or anything like that but it really amplified in enhanced the viewing experience. Keith was so ahead of his time. very creative and keith went from world class he went to wcw Worked for just an unbelievable talent. He eventually moved to. Atlanta makes his home in atlanta now and win jeff started tna he utilized heath mitchell's experience and expertise to help him out with tna. And keith is an old just an old texas boy likes to go hunt birdie simple gamma beer and his let him sit down smoke a cigar and he's good to go man and beyond talented but i. That was one of the really bright spots that you can say. Did you enjoy going to work. I loved i loved. Gold work can work in creative in working with talent. And i throw keith mitchell in that talent pool Why do you think you know. Considering his longtime in business he was never candidate not not so candidate. Why did he never wind up with. Vince was this kevin dunn situation. We tried to hire him twice. What kept it from coming. And he was set in atlanta he liked atlanta and move to connecticut. He was happy where he was wasn't about the money. One about name. He was happy where he was. When you say that makes me think of david sahadi. David sahadi was well known for producing video packages for the debris including The of the very popular stone. Cold steve austin Rock promo to the limp biscuit. Song my way right before wrestlemainia and the one that i've heard rumors innuendo that vince loved the most was the old black and white footage From the mid two thousands with a hat classy freddie blassie voiceover talking about some of the hall of fame like ernie labs and stuff like that what happened with him departing. Wwe and then what was it like working with him and tna and specifically his name comes up when you hear about the situation where wwe was in orlando filming a commercial for the royal rumble. Antena was involved. And you're there on the east side. Sahadi was there on the ti side and he had just gotten there. Tell us about working with sahadi. Why he left in that specific incident please. Well sahadi came to us from Nbc he was a promo guide. Nbc and came in to produce spots and help with production at the wwf. Back in the day. john. Philip kelly was there at the time and sahadi was in is in my opinion a genius when it comes to television production and sahadi was the one responsible in a big part for the evolution of stone. Cold steve boston. Kind of from the million dollar champion the ringmaster and turning him into stone cold with those vignettes of steve pacing in the yard and the dogs barking and the chain link fence and all that that was the brainchild of david's hobby in he did some really really great stuff. You talk about the hall of fame spot with fred. Blassie and gorilla monsoon anything sahadi could do could utilize the talent a classy freddie blassie. He would and i'm gonna. I'll tweet out the picture from a party. David sahadi house with me and fred. Blassie from years ago when i had black hair We won't talk about that but Maybe some other time but sahadi was just burnt out and he had been running har- wwf and he was burnt out. Wanted to take some time wanted to travel little bit and just get away from the grind and he took a leave of absence. He took some time off and didn't come back and decided that he was just gonna take some time live in the mountains. I believe in chattanooga and during this time jeff jarrett contacted in told him what he was doing asked him if he could help had him come in and he became helping with the opens and some of the production pieces for tna. And i dare say that. He contributed a great deal to the look of those packages for tna and did a great job. I think we're sahadi kind of i don't think they was. They ended up moving dave into a director position where he was directing. The live shows in day was not a director. And so people would wanna blamed dave for the live show because he was the director calling shots. But that wasn't his forte. He's great post production and he tried and he did the very best that he could but You know most what was and then you talked about when we were down there. We were producing a commercial for the royal rumble. And we were in universal studios orlando and we had a sound stage and universal orlando is also where. Tna produced their television show a separate sound sound stage down the way.

"I well. Here's the follow up. I guess he's really asking. Will the u k ever host one of the big four pay per views again. I know you weren't there for summer. Slam ninety two. And i know the story summerslam ninety two did not do well on paper view and a lot of people think that's because of the tape delay. Is that really the primary reason that we we didn't see more international pay per views like there wasn't a wrestlemainia in london so to speak Expense you gotta get everybody over there right quite expensive. You've got travel. You've got equipment. You have technology differences and they the that expense when you look at no time change and everything else. If live is a big selling point for pay per view yes it is and if you're doing something at noon on sunday that you used to get in at six or seven in the evening there's going to be less by just in general and the cost is definitely just a lot higher keith. Wants to know. What's your favorite vignette. You ever help reduce I had so much fun. Doing the dusty vignettes in the mr perfect vignettes They got off on Big boss in yet. So jesus christ we went into the danbury prison which was full of prisoners and they took the prisoners from one cellblock and moved them like the entire cellblock and move them out so that we could shoot in there but they could still see us from where they were and it was It was interesting it was interesting and so those were fun and interesting and kind of put you on edge a little bit be being in the the lowest floor of the cobb cownie president being surrounded by prisoners and shit was a little little kabuki shen and a little crazy but they were often. I mean i can't look at any of them go. Jesus christ hated that. Well actually i can. Let's go that way. The to talk shit. Up in the foothills of south dakota was absolutely painstakingly brutal while i was a brutal it was brutal from from a crew standpoint and from different things going on in the company that there was process and procedure put in. That made no sense that was put in by people that actually have to go out and do things so where i'm used to i. Would i would walk onto set or i would walk onto shoot I'm in charge. So i pretty much tell everybody what to do. Talent the crew everything and that was set up in a way that the there was a like a crew boss. There was a director. there was a dp Which is cameraman for you and me and all other shit and it. I'm talking to talent directly telling talent what to do and how to do it. And then i started talking to the camera man who got upset that i said. What's your what's cameraman's ain't. I'm not a cameraman. I'm a dp the fox at dp. So she'll soon as tough getting through and it just wasn't fun you do that. Shit man you gotta have fun. Jason says in hindsight would you re book wrestlemainia ten for myself. I would have done advertise main event. Well i thought that with the way that we did it. Had it had people guessing and you didn't know what we were going to do. But i think it was interesting enough that you wanted to tune in to see what we would do not agree with that This is one that. I know you're gonna have fun with eighties wrestling fans i was at the arco arena on november sixteenth nineteen eighty-eight when you debuted in the ring with hulk vs or hulking can slick or the reaction of the boys in the back to your performance B brian blair was reportedly fired that night and dawn. Morocco was also fired around that Memories of them or event. I remember the event very well because i was terrified. Taken that bump over the top. I m being handcuffed so when we first it we did it with regular handcuffs and i had nowhere to go. Because i couldn't hang herself. It was gonna break my wrist. And i got to the top and i caught myself on the apron on. Yeah this this isn't gonna work and so we went to the shackles which adds chain and everything. So that i can at least get all the way to the floor Still damn near broke my wrist. But i remember mardi janetti take me out to the ring and marty show me how to take the bump easy with with alk and just just did it but you talk about first of all. I think it was. One of the first events ever arco arena. It was one of those rain as it went straight up so when you were in the middle of the ring felt like the audience was right on top of you. And that's that's just magic when you're a performer. In the middle of the ring because they reacted everything hogan was the first one to get his hands on me and touch me in any way so that was a had. I had some heat going into that and it was electric in in one of the high points of my career. It is the highpoint. Probably my performing career. Aaron cheek says any good stories from syndicated. Tv voiceover sessions. You had us. Oh god You know the the most fun a lot of times is just especially with gorilla. And bobby is what are they gonna come up with. And the the the funny thing about it is is people would think that so much of that was written. And what have you they rehearsed and the beauty of it was. We would sit down. We will talk about the stories. We talk about what points we want to get across and then the talent did their job and monsoon. Heynen were fabulous. Doing that. there wasn't a lot of say this say that or go here okay guys. It's a reminder of the story and they would go out and do it but you would just be double over in laughter with some of the things that will come out of Monsoon and heenan with dense and jesse and bruno a lot of times. It was massaging bruno. Because bruno did jesse was making fun of him or not and thought. Sometimes we were feeding jesse shit and didn't get. Hey it's a work. This is the dynamic here bruno. The jesse's going to fuck with you. But bruno was always gentlemen and it was. It was good but never Later on john philip. Kelly came in and wanted more say in things in there was a voice voiceover one time that honky tonk man and roddy piper worthy to analyst and color and piper called hockey agrees ball and flip got very accept because he felt it was a derogatory term towards. Italians and fivers looked at goes. He's not italian right. He's as i can't do that because derogatory goes take a look at him. I mean look at him. What did you call the guy that looked like that in the fifties which is what. He's portraying a guy from the fifties. Yeah he's a grease ball and that was an argument that that we lost because it was one of flip's first times in there you know so you had to kind of put him over. Okay you win okay. I won't say baseball sir. But i i agreed. I said he was italian. Wouldn't even enter the conversation but yeah shit like that. Ron says a frozen reversed and the deputy had to sell the wcw back in the day. What are the chances. We would have. Seen vince on tnt. Eventually you never say never. But i don't think that would have happened. John says had red heart never left. D think mcmahon austin would have been as big as it came.

"But abba everybody back another week. Rtc to speier bro. I am so pleased with you. I mean always. I am because your good friend in kenya. Podcast co host and and you have the world's greatest laugh put you're wearing the nets on. Yes hoodie again. And that makes me. That makes me so happy. Man we back man. i. I've been on vacation. That was on vacation over the weekend. So you know just getting back and this was like the cleanest thing next to my close so grabbed to come down to put the bottom looks good man. It looks good it we i. I was literally just talking with my boss. John philip kelly flip about how awesome you were on the nets. The nets pre-game is gonna give me more games We gotta get you another game to get you know you should. You should text flip and say because the yankee games and say hey. What are the chances i get on another nets he says you know. I'll mention if frank to negotiate it right here on the air since we're talking about right now by the way we have to say thank you to esquire for naming us one of the best podcast and twenty twenty one not just sports but overall that was first of all. Obviously esquire has excellent taste. That was a very cool honor. It is that is a cool on. It's cool to happy with recognize stuff that we do. I mean it's just a senior have a conversation with our friends. So you know to be able to to have people recognize that and and being such a cool magazine was was really doping It's the first time i've been like recognized or something off the field. You know what. I'm saying. Like i have other talents have displaying baseball. You do have other talents. it's true man. it was really cool and to our audience. Obviously you guys all make it possible so like posted about the other day. We we so appreciate you all and we'll continue this journey and we got. We got a really good little spring training rhythm going right now with With our to see to. We talked with gardner and glacier last week. They're both tremendous. Let me tell you. It also helps my broadcast. Prep when i'm going to do in the spring games on yes tampa were you into no man from home. Yeah based. I'm actually doing from sue bird. Yeah so michael. Coney paul their setups are. From home. i am doing it from stamford. I could have probably repurpose. Espn setup at home. But i i was like you know what i'm comfortable they. They've made the associated harder to do baseball or basketball way. Harder off a monitor. Because they're just things that you don't have to track you know what i mean like so think about like when you're watching a game. How often like you can't tell if a balls like in the gap or is it going to be caught or you know what i mean like you know what's crazy is that i can. Yes but like a regular person can't so like for me so call a game like just me thinking about baseball like watch games. It'd be easier for me to call it off the tv interesting. Because i because i know what pitch it is with the way it's moving you can see the rotate like all that stuff. Like for me it would be way easier to call a game I was watching. Because i have you know i'm employees so i like the games i don't know tv member. I sent you that video of me watching the game on a on my ipad. Yeah that's the only camera angle that i gay but i like gary hit a home run. I was like oh he got up like you say it's kim watch a game in no but play baseball but fucking twenty years. You know what i'm saying. So yeah but it's easier for baseball players. Watch it on tv. That's so interesting man. I by the way. I see how you're saying it's easier for you on tv. This is again going back to so flip. If you wanna set me up in my to do but i will say are technical and operations team. I guess. Now we're as well as espn but in this case we're talking about yes. They've been unbelievable. Like i sat in there to do the game. My did my first spring game on Saturday i'm going to do another one tonight. Another one on saturday and they. I was like blown away with how good the setup was like. 'cause they gave me like where i can see on. I'm look. I have a big monitor with program so like what you would see if you're watching tv. But then. i also have like a little four box. That shows me coney. It shows me the scoreboard. So when random dudes get up in the late innings like at least you know okay. That's who's up an n The all nine. If you will feel right yeah so so. It's small but you could tell like like the other day stanton that you know piss rod into the corner with hixon. I i knew it. Why wasn't yeah. I but i wouldn't have known otherwise if i was just looking at program. I don't know where the runners you know so. Yeah i was able to know like kicks is going to stop at third so yeah it done an amazing job man. It's it's pretty impressive. I have to say that's crazy. Because well i saw that pitch route goes down in tampa. That's cool and then i went back. I was like well. It's fans but then you know it could be fans because it's fucking forward so i thought you were down there. Yeah well. i'm glad the best compliment that we can get right is that it sounds like we're down there. You know so you know not that you're listening in this case but i'm listening I don't think i watched the game over the weekend. 'cause you're away vacation it was great it was it was It was much needed You know me and Vacation alone not little. Caesars baseball In about eighteen months so it was great. It was it was good just to get some sun. Get away and now back ready to go. Yeah man and we saw. Thanks to your trainer. Dave what's going on with those traps now bro. You've you've graduated. Dave is crazy. Very picture and i was like posters that i knew us go like it..

"Any of that was insure. I think that there are a lot of people that were very uncomfortable with it. That can you say some names here like on one side or the other. What was no i have. I really don't remember. Okay makings at all. I guess really. The only name specifically do remember was john. Philip kelly who was very against it and and You know didn't like it but for the most part you know it was. It was discussed Ad nauseam amongst lob people. Some people thought its wrestling. It's going to be what it is and You know we'll do. I want to mention here sargent slaughter. He's only forty two years old but he's written about as this is the end of my wrestling career. Did you see it that way and just forty two years old. Because of course everybody's waiting for me to say this. Aj staus today is forty three years old. Did not that. Sarge was losing weight getting in shape and thought he had had few more runs in. Frankly real quick. We're going to wrap things up. Here are read a report here that there would be wanted to send hogan to saudi arabia to visit the troops but was turned down by the uso. Instead hogan will spend the next few weeks visiting families of those overseas to strengthen his baby face image. While vowing to bring the title back from hussein's emissary. Remember that the uso a tipped. Yeah because they weren't sending the anybody over time right. It wasn't like no we don't want hogan it was. We're not sending anyone over. So here's the thing. In spite of the fact that people hate this angle and they didn't like the finish and they thought warrior should one and they didn't like the rumble and said it was one of the. It was the worst one so far. He also says it's the best. Wb pay view ever ever. What say you where do you land on this thumbs up thumbs down thumbs in the middle. I won't use his scoring system. Thought it was a good show. But i don't think it was a great show and again when you look at the overall sentiment of the audience that they liked it than we did a good job me personally. I thought it could have been better. "These survivor series showdown we've got Bret Hart Painting Hockey and a one on one match, and then if the ninety survivor series, we see rhythm and Blues Partner with Ted. On his million dollar team. Along with the debuting undertaker to take on dusty Rhodes and his Dream Team, which is the heart foundation in Kobe. Beware of course, we all remember DB Ozzy was the only survivor from that team. And at the end of nineteen ninety. Greg Valentine began do what Unquote K. fehb argue with honky about Jimmy Hart interfering in their matches and the rumor and Innuendo was this was supposed to lead to a feud between the two both Honky tonk man and Greg the Hammer Valentine never wound up happening on TV. And I think a lot of that is because Honky Tonk me and briefly joined the commentary table with Vince McMahon and Roddy. Piper. But honky would complain that he couldn't get a word in edgewise with Piper there. So winds up leaving the company in Nineteen. Ninety A lot to unpack here pretty good little one year run for the team. It does feel like we're going to see them feud with each other. It doesn't happen instead he wants up at the commentary desk for a cup of coffee and then he's Outta here. What are you remember happening here with with Hockey Talk Man Greg, Valentine than him transition and commentary, and then immediately leaving. homeboy. We're looking for something for some different for hockey to and. We had roddy there we vince. Liked to three man booth. So the idea was basically try and recreate. Different Way. The Vince. Jesse. Bruno. With vents and Ravi mainly doing play by play and color hockey to kind of be the analyst. That was hobbies role wasn't to say a lot. It was to provide you know bits and pieces and still be colorful still be entertaining. But yet ostensibly to. Baby face announcers or a play by play guy color guy that's. baby face, and then your analysis, your analyst was. A heel. and. It just wasn't the greatest thing in the world and I remember one day.
