"Struggle to the point where the team is 500 and it's clearly his fault based on his play based on the all 22s that are out there on Twitter, the all 22 Twitter showing there's where he should have gone and you know Kyle knows that and Kyle has got to be up his, you know what about it? Is there a threshold? That's why I asked that question of lynch. And it was funny. His answer being, you know, my dad used to be in radio. I had season tickets to San Diego, and we heard people chanting the backup name for Dan fouts. What he said, his grandmother was one of Gary kubiak to get in the game when Elway would struggle. And I thought that was a nice way of saying that there's always going to be that drum beat outside the building. But we are going to remember yesterday, Chris, you're like, of course I take Jimmy G, but this is not in a vacuum. The Jimmy G is going to be the presence that might throw Trey Lance off his game having him look over his shoulder the whole time. And I'm like, well, the coach thinks he can create that vacuum. And you thought that that's not feasible and you just heard John lynch and the coach say that that's the feasibility that they're willing to endeavor because having Jimmy G in the building to back the guy up is worth it. That the in case of emergency Garoppolo is therefore to start the season is in case Lance gets hurt. We're all sitting there like, will you break the in case of emergency glass if Lance is inconsistent and not ready? Not Super Bowl ready. And the inconsistency that you would have been willing to live with to get through this season ups and downs so he can be mature and your guy for a decade plus to follow. You're still not willing to go through those growing pains because you got Jimmy G there and we're going to break the in case of emergency glass because we think we can win the Super Bowl and Trey Lance. Instead of the conversation being, hey, we're bringing Jimmy G in here. Hope you're cool with that. Cool. It's like, hey, Jimmy's now the starter. Hope you're cool with that. We're going to try again next year with you. That's what's set up for this forty-niners season and holy cow. Is it pretty much unprecedented and fascinating? But I'm still betting on Lance. I have from the beginning and I'll keep doing it. Chris Fowler talking to Serena at the U.S. open and Notre-Dame Ohio State and more when we come back on the other side on radio. I mean, I just try to boil it down for you, man. That's one of the most fascinating things. Without question. Every week, it's just going to be analyzing Lance. Did he do enough? Is this should they go to Jimmy now? Is he going to get guess what? If he's not doing enough in their winning, who cares? Obviously. But losing to what extent to what extent? What is it? To what extent foreign three do you go to Jimmy Jean? Three 40 you go to Jimmy G 6. I don't think they'll get to that. They're too damn good, man. We looked at their schedule. There is no reason they should be two and zero. Three and three after 6 at the very worst. Which is fine. You have to. You have to get they're going to Lance for a reason. Because they know they know they've got to get to him now. Sooner, better than later. Because what they spent in. Correct and also they know that he's upside. It's stupendous. It is. They think we think you think you know. He's got an upside. What do you think he's big tall, strong fast, smart? Upside, right. That's what I'm saying. As it played a lot, gotta get him in there. It'd be awesome if he was great. Lance and the niners with Jimmy G backing up at JF one in the bears to open week one. Another fascinating week one game. Chris Fowler, on the other side, my buddy from a ESPN coming up.

"Everybody would scream the name of they would, I thought they were booing when I was a young kid. It was Ed Luther was the backup they wanted Ed Luther to come in. So I suppose that's always been in football. My grandma was a huge Broncos fan, lived in boulder. And John Elway may be the greatest specimen of a quarterback ever to play as I just really believe in this Gary kubiak. So I think that's an age old thing. I think people will always do it. It comes down to there is a pecking order and we're we do have tremendous belief and I've told you all the things about his makeup and people being comfortable with the situation. Then we just let it ride and we try to plan for everything. I don't believe me. I respect the heck out of Kurt. He's been through these situations, but we believe it's a good thing for our team. And we're going to roll with that. Okay. Last one for you. All this stuff put the whole debo off season on the back burner because that thing's done. How close were you maybe no longer having debo on the team? John, did it ever get close to that? For you and the niners? I never wanted to believe that it was, but there were some moments, you know? And we had to bring it back together again. You go back to the foundation of a relationship and the first time I ever met deebo was down at the senior bowl and that's when Kyle and I met him the app in the play for us. That's the whole saying that year was from mobile to Miami because we coached the senior bowl, which I don't recommend because it means you were really bad. And we went to Miami and our Super Bowl and debo was a big part of that. We love his talent. We love his ability. We love the spirit. He brings to our team. And as to what caused that and all, I'm just glad he's back in the fold with us. And I always believe that he would. That market just took off and it went crazy. And if you go back and do it, but the good thing is that it's done. And he's a part of us and he's so happy. He was so it was a big weight off his shoulders as well. And we're just we're happy devos back in the fold and going to be playing for the niners for years to come because he's such a great player and such a great young man. Well, John, what a fascinating last I guess half a year you and the front office and the staff and the team and the organization and the coaching staff had I'm sure you were relieved that it is over and now it's time for toe to meet ball in Chicago for your team. And I can't wait to watch it. Just a fascinating team, what a way your season finished up last year. And it's entering this year. I can't wait, John, and I appreciate the time and the call as always. Thanks so much. It's always great to talk to you. Best of your fam. You take care, John. Right back at you. It's John lynch here, but general manager Hall of Famer right here on the rich hasn't shown. All right, we'll take a break and unpack what we just heard from him before Chris Fowler joins us from, I believe he's still in Queens. I don't know if he's already in Ohio State. We'll check in with him, but the man the voice of the U.S. open and college football on ESPN still to come and you. Back here on the rich eisen show. 8 four four two O four rich number. Amen, John lynch just basically told you, we tried to trade him, he had surgery. We didn't expect it. We got a call. He had surgery. All the trade partners, we had lined up, suddenly ran for the hills. Then we go into the draft, then we see where all the pieces fall. We see how he comes through surgery. It's training camp. He and we wanted to see how everything shook out in training camp, were there any injuries? Would anybody come forward, needing somebody a la, the Vikings? Would Jimmy G be the Sam Bradford of this equation to whichever unfortunate teddy Bridgewater injury in training camp befell another team didn't happen at some point, turn around, say to Kyle or Kyle says to me, you think Jimmy want to stay? You know? Goes to Trey Lance, he says, Trey said, cool. Now I know a lot of people will be like, there's no way he said that. Well, he could have said it like, cool. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's not like, cool. Yeah, cool. But he says Trey can handle it, and we can handle it, and the team can handle it, and if I'm a veteran in that locker room, if I'm a member of he said, the 15 member, player council, the leadership council that they have, if I'm a veteran on this team, and I hear that Jimmy G is willing to stay to be the backup. And he will be there if Trey gets hurt and the season will not be blown up. We're not handing it off to Nate sudfeld or Brock purdy. That we're handing it off to Jimmy G and that Jimmy's willing to be around and be that guy for us, I am like all in, I'm like, do it. Will he do it? Really? Can I call Jimmy? Do you need me to call Jimmy to see if Jimmy will do it? Of course I'm doing it. You want me to sell that in the locker room? I'm in. Done. And that's not a slight to trade. It's a knowing that one split second can remember Jimmy Jean didn't get out of bounds and his knee blew up. Okay, that can happen to Trey Lance. And then my season's over, my ability to win a Super Bowl this year is essentially over because I definitely have concerns about the other guys you're considering his backup. I'm in. As a matter of fact, do you want me to call Jimmy to help? That would be my response. It's just again managing the downs of the ups and downs that are inevitable when it comes to a guy as inexperienced at the position as Trey Lance is that normally happens in the NFL for somebody like that. What that experience level like that can he come in and play like Justin Herbert and make this all moot and Jimmy G is an earbud in all season long, you bet.

"And as things kind of develop and I guess some people might say, well, why don't you just do it then a month ago or something? Well, you know, Jimmy and Don yee and Carter chow is representatives. I think smartly said, we're going to wait for every possibility. Whether that's a starting quarterback getting hurt, whatever it is, sometimes time is your friend on these things. And so we're going to wait till the very end of camp till the last preceding games played before we're ready to do something like that. But we do have interest. And so when it happened, it happened very quickly. I'm sorry for a long story, but I don't know. That's a way to tell it. No, I'm hanging on to your every word, John. Seriously, because I appreciate you going back to the combine, because that's how far back it's got to go. And the surgery creating a situation where clearly a tradable commodity suddenly needs to be shelved in every possible way. I totally understand what you were doing. And you had me, you had me hanging on your every word. So what was Lance's reaction? To being told, the guy who you were replacing and we have attempted to trade so you could understand not only from our mouths and our hearts, but with our roster moves that this is your team that he were thinking of bringing him back to make sure that we have our backup position and that quarterback room as solidified as we possibly can. His reaction to that was what, John? Yes. So when we first floated the idea, it was Kyle talking to Trey. And then I kind of followed up and it was Kyle said, John, I don't think there's much of a conversation. It was real short. He said, cool, I think that's great. Trey's a confident young man. He's got a lot of belief in his abilities. He and Jimmy, I think the most important thing. They have a really strong foundation of her relationship. Jimmy could not have been any better to trans or rookie. And I think trace supported Jimmy extremely well. So there's a real friendship there. First of all, and I get it, you know, there's competition, they both, I'm sure last year and this year, I want to be the guy, but I think there's an understanding that there is a pecking order and I think like Trey's conversation when we decided to do it. You know, he was, once we, once we completed the deal, happened shortly after we came up to practice field. Again, it's the first person Kyle called in and then I spoke with Trey and Trey was all on board. He thought it was good for our team. And the other thing we did then is we talked to Trey. We had to talk to Nate sudfeld, who wasn't going to be here anymore. Likely was going to be our number two. And then we also Kyle and I, we pulled 15 players from our team kind of our leadership committee. Here's what we're doing. Here's why we're doing it. And I wanted to let the guys know that it was our belief in this team and those guys in the room and we know we've created a culture and we've got the men that can handle a situation like this. And so while the rest of the world may think it's uncomfortable, we're not supporting our lead guy. We don't believe in that. We believe in this team and we think it makes us better. And most importantly, we've talked to Trey. We've talked to Jimmy. They're comfortable. So we want your guys not their blessing because we were doing it anyway, but we want you guys to be on board and they were excited. And so that's where we're at and we're moving forward and I'm happy that we've got a quarterback room that obviously is so important in this league that is really strong going into the season. And Brock purdy, mister irrelevant, made it too quarterbacks, but he played very well in the preseason and really forced us to keep him on the 53 as well. Forty-niners GM John lynch here on the rich eisen show talking about what everybody's talking about on the NFL. Look, it's not your first rodeo. You got a bust and can't and showing that. You got a house trophy in the cage. In Santa Clara and a Super Bowl roster that a lot of people believe is ready to go right now. You understand, I had Kurt Warner a bust of room mate of yours on the show yesterday when he was the veteran and on the Giants team that turned Eli and he said there were veterans there that were saying to him, look, we can win this, why aren't you out there instead of us struggling with the rookies? That's part of the reason I assume why you did call the leaders of your locker room, your leadership council together, make sure that we're all on board. What is the, I guess, the struggle threshold potentially that you and maybe Kyle have talked about where maybe your stance with Trey Lance might somehow waver, that's the conversation that everyone's having right now, John, that I think I just wanted to put a fine point question in your lap on that very subject matter with a young quarterback that's going to have the ups and downs. John. Good question. I'm stunned. I was like, I was a kid with a jab, because I thought you were calling when you said Kurt Warner, a bust. No. No. No. I got you. A bust in the room with you. A bust made of yours, yes. Yes. Kurt has great perspective, but again, when it came down to in obviously, when you have somebody you've invested as much in as we have in trade, you want to provide for every opportunity for them to be successful. But what we came down to, we can't control narratives outside the building, even like Kurt Warner and I respect his opinion. I seek those guys out sometimes and ask them about situations. But it was basically we think our team can handle this. And we're going to be very clear, no different than last year was Jimmy's team. And when the call is made to go to the backup, that's all on Kyle. I'm not saying I'm not passing the buck. That's his decision as a coach. I think our players trust that and the bottom line is when we were drafting Trey Lance, the skill sets, obviously, important everything is important when you're making that bigger decision, but a lot of it is the mental fortitude. The mental toughness, the capacity to handle the pressure at that position. And that's where we thought Trey was as strong as anybody in that draft. And frankly, it was our belief in trade that allows us to do this because we think he can handle that. And does it provide more pressure on him? Looking over the shoulder. We don't believe so. Maybe the narrative outside, but what we can focus on is having great communication with Trey with Jimmy with our players and saying, here's what we're doing. Here's why we're doing it. And we want you guys to have everybody back in this and our team understands that they were all on board. They've got great belief in Trey. They played with Jimmy for a long time. They have great belief in him, but they understand that this is trades team. He's going to get every shot to go have success. And furthermore, and I think more importantly, they really believe that he's destined to. So I guess, and I know everything's a hypothetical. Anything can happen. But the other thing that Kurt Warner brought up was he got in a game in the year that the Giants eventually did turn to Eli, Coughlin put him in a game to finish it up because Eli was struggling. And then he almost pulled off a comeback went over the ravens and Kurt said he told Coughlin, you need to go to the media and assert the fact that I'm still the backup and this is still Eli's team. You've got to do that. And I'm wondering if Jimmy G's got that in him. On top of the fact that asking you the hypothetical, I know I'm asking two at once, but I only have a limited time left with you. That is it possible that that could be a role for Garoppolo that Lance is struggling. Jimmy finishes up, but then it's Lance's team at the end of the day anyway. Is that possible? John? I don't know. You know, I think about all these things. You know what I think about right now. I would say my dad was in the radio business and. They were the flagship station for the San Diego Chargers. Every charger, we were season ticket holders. My dad would entertain clients up in the suite and my brother and my sister would sit down in the stands this charger season tickets holders and you know what I remember when we had Dan Faust, another guy who has a bust and whatever dance outs would struggle.

"To be directly in the front office and in the middle of all of what has gone on with the San Francisco forty-niners the general manager of said organization, John lynch back here on the rich eisen show. How are you doing, John? I'm doing good, rich. I'm doing really well. It's always a tough time of year. You know, having conversations with players that have really dedicated their entire heart, soul, every ounce of energy into attaining the goal and to look somebody in the eye and tell them that they just came up a little short is a really tough thing to do. But I learned a long time ago. I think it was Tony dungy. I don't think it was. It was Tony Dungey, who anybody who came in and had our building, Tony would look them in the eye and tell them the truth as to why they were there, why they weren't there. And what the plan moving forward could be for them. So I think that's really important to me that I do that. And I think the guys appreciate that. So, but nonetheless, it is incredibly tough. The nice thing is with the larger staring COVID, we went with these larger practice squads. Right. I think has wisely held a hundred. It serves as a developmental league in its own right and it's really the only sorts of having guys kind of in reserve and you're improving those players. So you don't have to get rid of as many players as you used to. So it's nice to be able to tell you then make the 53, but we sure like you to be a part of our team by way of the practice. Did you ever witness Tony telling somebody why their playbook was asked to be brought with them into his office or you spoke to those guys when leaving because I imagine that wasn't a conversation he had with you, John, back in the playing days. I mean, how did you witness that as what I'm asking, I guess? You just knew it happened. You just do and you knew it went a long way with players. There's a lot of places where it's go get your playbook and turn it in and nobody's really giving you the message and or it's a scouting assistant kind of entry level person just saying hey, turning your playbook and I think I don't know if owed is the right word, but to earn that they're here and they're working that hard. They deserve to hear it from a decision maker why they're not going to be there and I think it goes a long way towards people want to come back and we're travels it's the right thing to do but also we're travels this day. That organization does things in the right way. I know it did that was the case down in Tampa and indie when Tony was there and I think it's the case here Kyle does the same thing and we talked to each of them. So it's great. John lynch here on the rich eisen show of from the San Francisco forty-niners front office. All right, let's just jump into the Jimmy G decision to stay and your process getting to that. I know Kyle Shanahan spoke at length about it in a telephone press conference, but I'd love from your position. How did this come about for Jimmy G to stay with you as the backup and everyone understands roles, John lynch? Yeah, so it's obviously been a long journey way back to kind of around the combine time when I really thought that conversations with a number of teams probably honed in on two or three teams where I thought there was a real strong reality that it was happening just the tenor of the conversations, the discussions of compensation. And then we got the call from Jimmy that he had visited Neil Ella trash in LA and that they had made the decision where it had earlier been rest. It was okay. We need to surgically fix this issue. And all of a sudden, then we're those fed teams that we're talking to. We have to communicate to them. Hold on. We do need to let you know that Jimmy just is tomorrow having to surgery on his throwing shoulder and you can imagine being in those teams. Hey, we're going to step back. So just to make a long story short, then the chairs start filling up. And when there's only so many chairs out there and throughout the off season, a lot of teams aren't going to wait on that. And so that happened, now we get to training camp, and I still think that, hey, we're going to someone's going to come to us with something so strong. You've got a proven starting quarterback. A guy who's been to the Super Bowl a couple of NFC championship games. That it's just a matter of time. And that really just never happened. A few teams called, but I think everyone, the injury to the shoulder and the fact that a lot of those seats had filled up. I can't speak for other teams as to why they didn't. Now, at some point, we're watching our team and we feel really good about our team. And there was just a conversation between Kyle and I, hey, what would you think about Jimmy coming up here in a backup capacity? This is trace team. And I think Kyle's initial reaction was, why would he do that? I'm sure there's going to be a starting job for him out there or something's going to arise and I don't know exactly when that was, but we did a couple of things there. We communicated to Jimmy that we would have interest in that. If he did, we also portray in and talk to him and said, we want you to know we have this conversation. It has nothing to do with you. This is your team. This has more to do with our belief in the team. And if we can strengthen that room and have him as you're backed up, then that we believe that makes us a better team, have no idea whether it's going to happen.

"Now. Him verses Jacoby Brissette week one, I mean, as you all know, it's already on in cracking. But at least Sam darnold got some good news just moments ago. 8, four, four, two O four, so let's take some phone calls, man. Let's do it. Let's go to chica and Connecticut. First up here on the program. Did I see your name right, sir? I'm a huge fan and you're one of the reasons why I want to go into broadcast. Oh, wow. Okay, terrific. Can you wait till I'm done with my job before you take it? Would you mind? Okay. That's all I ask. That's all I ask. Okay. What's on your mind, sir? First of all, do you think the ravens will make the playoffs? And if you do, how far do you think they'll go? Oh man, I am already, I had to send in yesterday GKE and for the rest of everyone in the room here on Tuesday is the NFL game day morning. Season preview show. Yes. I had to send in all 8 of my division predictions and my MVP. And did you pick wild cards too? No, just I had to pick it up. Oh, I just had to pick 8 division where they just asked for 8 division winners and they asked for an MVP. You know what? I'm going to reveal them here on the show tomorrow. I think you should. Okay, you know, I think you should too. In the same way that Russ was thinking for himself and not the rest of the group and apparently taking everything that wasn't fully guaranteed. Yeah. I'm going to just reveal him tomorrow on this program. Love it. However, I will just reveal to you since you just asked me, I do not have the ravens winning the AFC north. RG three, I'm sure you heard on hold said they're going to win the whole thing. That's a bit of an overreaction. That was no reaction Monday. I would think that's a nice reaction. I think in my opinion, I think we'll make the title game, but not the Super Bowl. Okay. Well there you have it. That means you probably think that they're winning the division. All I'll say is this. You can't sit here and say the ravens have no shot to do what RG three said. We can't sit here and do that. They've got the coach. They've got the quarterback. They've got enough talented players. They have the identity, so many teams are searching for one, entering week one. We know what their identity is. So we can't sit here and deny that. And thanks for the call. Again, remember to give me a shot to finish my job before you take it. But I don't have them winning the AFC north. I'll reveal them tomorrow. I like that. How about that apples? I like it. Sorry, NFL network, but at least you're going to get them exclusively from mooch irv and Kurt. On Tuesday. The Bengals went in the I'll hold off my MVP until Tuesday. How does that sound? But I'll do the division winners tomorrow. We'll do that. Here on the program, let's go to, oh, wow, the UK Nick and Birmingham, UK. All the way from across the pond is on mandated to say as an American sports broadcaster, anything involved with the United Kingdom. What's going on, Nick? Hey, rich, yeah, not too much. I just wanted to talk quickly about fantasy football. I know you guys are obviously mister brockman is very into his fancy football and you've got the crazy rules of mister Rios. So on Monday, I am taking part for the second time in a crazy 24 Mandy. Notorious first round draft bust JaMarcus Russell, shoutouts for JaMarcus bowl. It's a one running back one world wide receiver two flex league and by round four, as you can imagine it gets a little bit ridiculous. All right, on a second, Nick, walk me through your league. It's 24 minutes. Is it a snake draft? Is it a snake draft? It's an auction draft. What is it? What do you got? Yeah, it's a snake. And the positions are what the positions are what? So you've got quarterback, one running back, one wide receiver, one tight end, two flex a kicker and defense and a 5 man bench. All right, so I just looked it up. If I'm not mistaken, speaking the way that folks in the UK would say, is it proper to say this is Barney? Is it proper to say that? Yes, I would say. That's pretty bombing. That's the British slang for crazy or insane. I just looked that up. Thank you, Google. All right. That said, what advice can I help you with? Do you have? Yeah, what do you have? So I've got pick 11. Okay, okay. All right, you can imagine obviously first and probably second tier running backs will be taken maybe Cooper Cup and a couple of others, but and then usually in the first round, you get a wild quarterback pick as well. So then that starts the quarterback free for all as well. So Chris, what do you say? I'll turn to you since you're 14 team league looks like a walk in the park compared to this. It looks like amateur hour. So 11, you should get Kelsey, right? You could get Kelsey or you could get devonte Adams 11. I think in a league like that, people are taking running back like crazy. Yeah, I think you could do that. Yeah, hold on, I'm trying to find how about this, Nick. Why don't you, when is this it's Monday? It's Monday. Okay. Okay. Can you tweet at rich eisen show your final roster and then call back and walk us through it on Tuesday? Would you mind doing that? Sure, I'll give that a go. Let's do that. Why don't you guys break this up into two 12 team leagues? Divisions and even divisions are still, you're going to have two leagues. And then just have the winners play each other. I don't know. I think there's the, there's only two options here, TJ. One is not to play. Is to do this. Or not at all. Yeah. And as you know, we would choose to not at all. But Nick, thank you for the call. We'll chat with you on Tuesday. Can't wait for the rest of it. I'm seeing some like Jamar chase 11th overall like that wouldn't be bad. Maybe you could stack him and Joey burr.

"Just check us out every single day. We greatly appreciate all of you doing that. The phone lines are completely lit, we'll get to them in a moment. I arrived here a little late today prior to the show. Because I don't know what it was, but I was behind every terrible driver in Los Angeles, California. And there's many of them out here. I don't know what it was, but it was a school started, I think. It's a 100° out. It's very, very hot. Rich eisen show complaining about the traffic and weather together on the ones. Yeah, well done. So what I'm doing, getting off my chest. So I was in a little bit of a move, but then RG three got me out of it. You started talking about how he's not my favorite campus on Planet Earth. And arbor Michigan. I didn't know that he was calling the Colorado state contest against my Alma mater. You feel like you're about 31 points better than Colorado state this weekend. What do you think about that? I just want to be one point better than them. How does that sound? That would not sound great to me. I don't know, man. I would love for Michigan to just come out and blow the doors off. Yeah, that'd be great. We love it, but I have no idea. Being a Michigan fan for as long as I've been following them since 1986, these are the type of games usually where they come out, maybe they'll score first and you think, okay, this is good. And then some dumb ass penalty called by some Big Ten ref that sucks already or they make a mistake fumble and interception. They keep Colorado state alive and in the game and suddenly it's a tight one. I'm already biting down on my cuticles at halftime thinking this one's not going to be easy. I mean, I'd love for them to come out and just look like, okay, they're top ten, they're just going to be, they're just going to win by 30. What do you have to win by? A 31. Okay. I don't know. You're asking the wrong guy. He's what I'm saying. You are asking the wrong guy. To say the least. Chris Fowler is calling Ohio State and Notre-Dame on Saturday night, and he's calling some top notch tennis affairs. At the United States open. That is for darn sure. Serena Williams is that through to the third round, we'll talk about that later on this hour. John lynch is calling in at about 20 minutes time. Do we have questions for John lynch? What do you think? Well, general manager of the forty-niners. I think we've got questions for him. We've been talking about his team for a few months now. Let's talk about his tight end room, right? Who's backing up George kittle? How about that one first? John lynch joins us about 20 some odd minutes time. He's busy man. We could have him break down the rays, playoff chase. We could. He used to play for them. The race? He played for the race. He was in their minor leagues. I think they drafted. I don't think we'll do that. I stopped following baseball as around our 11 o'clock local time last year. Yeah, yeah. It's just I'm on and off. You got it. 8 four four two O four rich number to dial. Chris brockman's burning questions for the next group of 5 teams on your list. 25 to 21. You did 32 to 26 yesterday. Correct. Who would you tick off yesterday? Oh, Jaguars fans weren't too happy. I said basically the roster was kind of still the same. They do have. Yeah, they do have some new starters, which, you know, apologies for overlooking that, but look, they're sensitive groups. You're still gonna be probably picking in the top ten. It's good. Good news. Good news and Carolina. Sam darnold has just the dreaded high ankle sprain. It looked like his ankle was snapped in half. Actually, over the weekend, in that final preseason game for Carolina, he's out four to 6 weeks, which gives him a chance to come back and actually participate in the 2022 season. And I thought to myself when I saw that, I'm like, there's Sam darnold has any luck, it would be no luck at all. Good, God. Has this guy just had, I mean, drafted into the NFL, his first touchdown pass for the jets was a pick 6 on that Monday night or in Detroit. And then he still came back in one, and then his coach was Todd Bowles. Your current Tampa Bay head coach, and he was dead coach walken, a defensive minded coach with a young rookie quarterback and the jets decided let's get rid of him and bring in Adam Gase, I think that is enough said on that front. And then they give him the exit visas he's looking for, he goes to Carolina, he beats the jets last year, he starts three and O and it looks like he's got his shot and he's on his way and then he gets hurt. Again. And then the offensive coordinator who was brought in from LSU by Matt rule, Joe Brady. Remember when he brought in that he brought in Joe Brady and at that time, the concept was he was the hottest assistant in college after Joe burrow's 60 touchdown Heisman season. And to get that guy and bring him and that style of offense to the NFL and instill it into the professional ranks with Sam darnold, that's the win. McCaffrey gets hurt. Now I'm at rules on the hot seat, it's a new offensive coordinator there. He's got the shot again until Baker Mayfield is acquired. Crazy. And as I told you, the minute Mayfield was acquired. It was a rap. A rap. And I know that they had their competition, but you don't go out and get somebody like Mayfield. After evaluating Sam darnold and having him in your group for as long as they had him, you don't make that movie even though it was hardly anything compensation wise to go get him, except the money that they're spending, you don't do that if you have full confidence in the guy that you're already having as your starter. You don't go and get Mayfield if you believe in darnold. And sure enough, it's Mayfield's gig and darnold is playing anyway in a pre season game and it looked like he had his ankle broken, but as, I mean, thank goodness the football gods have saw fit to keep that ankle from breaking. It's the dreaded high ankle sprain, a hopi gets back in and has an opportunity to contribute, although that would mean that's a problem for Carolina. That would be an issue. And Baker Mayfield is showing his moxie to say the least. In many

"Hard towards that. John really appreciate you. Thanks very much. Congratulations again enjoy ken. And try to forget the gm job for a few days. Thanks a lot adam. I appreciate it and so there is the great. John lynch who. I once work with an nfl network when he was launching his broadcasting career before he became port of fox broadcast team a great analyst before he decided to become the general manager of the forty niners and it's very interesting. We're looking to broadcasting world sometimes the connections and ties that exist that some people know and some people don't and an example that this past weekend migrate friend. my colleague. Marcus spears was watching. The olympic swimming competition very exciting and he noticed the great work of nbc's play by play man. Dan hicks and the color commentator rowdy gaines and marcus commented on on twitter and social. Who's this great swimming outsor- to which had a storm another colleague of mine and espn said my husband. Marcus spears had no idea that. Dan hicks the great voice of nbc sports swimming olympics golf. All sorts of events is married to the great. Hannah storm both had legendary distinguished broadcasting careers. They worked together for ten years at cnn. I believe it was or maybe nbc. But ten years together working together. Mary together even lower than that. Marcus spears has just learn this little factoid. So i'm glad that my friend now is in the know on the romantic relationships that exist within the broadcasting industry. Also wanna get looking ahead this week to my golf pool. it's back. After a week of the olympics we are back and we are ready to make another big for those who are paying attention. Four weeks left in the golf pool. We've got four tournaments coming up. We've got memphis. We've got greensboro. North carolina the northern trust jersey city and the bmw championship valley maryland. Four weeks to capitalize on. What has been a almost yearlong obsession with the scalpel to try to bring this home amateur but he cares but i care tremendous amount because it has overtaken my life and consumer weekends and i've watched almost every shot that everyone of the golfers that i picked up my weekly will has hit each week and i will be pulling from golfer this week right before we sign off on.

"Mine pro bowls of defensive rookie of the year defensive player of the year in two thousand nine q imagine how history would have been different. If the tuck rule play when he sacked on brady stood as many people thought it should have. It would have delayed the start of the patriots dynastic. Run and it would've helped the raiders. Perhaps go on to a super bowl charles. Woodson was believable. Tom floors to coach the raiders and seahawks man who has four super bowl rings. Incredible to think about that. He and mike ditka are the only people in nfl history who have been super bowl winners as players. Assistant coaches and head coaches. Dick is now tom. Flores will go in and bill nunn a name that might not be familiar to many people but he started his career with the steelers. As a part time scout he became the first evaluator league. History to show an nfl franchise. The long term value of scouting players at black colleges and universities. Guy was incredible ahead of his time. Just a tremendous. Nfl contributor and now bill nunn goes into the pro football team but of course john lynch demand we mentioned the man who is the guest on the podcast. This week played in tampa from nineteen ninety three to two thousand three played in denver from two thousand four to two thousand seven. He was a nine time. Pro bowl player. A two-time first team all pro selection a super bowl winner a former great baseball prospect and people will talk about that today. John lynch will look back on what could have been a tremendous baseball career as well as looking ahead to the season ahead without further. Ado my friend. my colleague. the great john lynch. We'll get back to the podcast and just a moment but first commercial support for this. "With the classes of two thousand and twenty and two thousand twenty. One being inducted into canton ohio this weekend after the pandemic last year prevented the induction of the class of twenty twenty. On this week's podcast. We'll be joined by a member of the class of two thousand twenty one former buccaneers and denver broncos safety now general manager of the san francisco forty niners. John lynch stops by with his look back at his career. A couple of interesting comments about the quarterbacking situation in san francisco unfolding as we speak other interesting quarterbacking situations going on across the league as well as we record this tuesday morning. The houston texans are on practice field. And guess what the sean watching is not with them. First time in pads this summer. For the texans and to shawn watson not spotted out there. Now we'll wait to see what the texans say about this. But as i was told within the past few days to shawn watson essentially has been turned into the nfl's highest paid scout team safety. Now think about that for a moment. The nfl's highest paid scout team safety. Because the texans don't want their former star quarterback to take snaps and risk getting hurt and the former star quarterback for the texas doesn't wanna risk himself getting hurt while are twenty two pending civil lawsuits against him and the nfl is investigating him and the police are investigating him and he continues to maintain his innocence as all this unfolds. Texans have to practice. And so the shawn watson doesn't really practice even though he's off out there practice and when he is a practice again that phrase again i love it. The nfl's highest paid scout team safety. We have clarity on the roger situation for now. The situation is tabled until next year. And really everything that we talked about during the off season was spot on which are rogers himself validated. I number packer. Fans are unhappy. They're saying that it was all created. Think aaron rodgers himself admitted he thought about playing somewhere else thought about retiring upset about the packers near decisions. But we all can agree. He basically recognized that his best opportunity was to come back this year to try to help. The packers compete for and win super bowl. And then after the season these talks will continue the talks that we referred to the last few months the ongoing talks about his ongoing unhappiness with the packers organization which he validated last week. That's tabled until next year. But it's not going away. It's still there. It will be there and it has to be there because of his cap number because the packers are gonna have to make allowance for salary cap number that scheduled to be over forty six million dollars in two thousand and twenty two. And that's a number that they will have to adjust or move off of work trade away or whatever our rogers would like them to do because rodgers will dictate where he spends two twenty two whether that's in green bay. Another nfl team or in retirement. Doing whatever it is hosting jeopardy jeopardy or anything he so desires and then of course the other quarterback situation of the week is carson wentz out five twelve weeks with a bone injury and his foot had surgery on monday. And right now. The texans plan despite people calling for the team to trade. Nick foles or marcus. Mariota is to stand pat. They're not planning on doing that as we tape this on tuesday morning they're planning to ride the former fourth round. Pick jacob easson into the start of the season if carson wentz is not recovered they have not given up hope that carson wentz will be ready for the regular season opener now. Personally i think it sounds a little bit ambitious. They say five to twelve weeks. He had the surgery on monday. The season opens five weeks from sunday. So that essentially gives him about six weeks so again they think he's got a chance to play necking. We'll see whether or not that actually happens again. They're not getting a pope but for now. No nick foles. No marcus mariota. No gardner meant you know. Any other quarterback. It's jacob eastern time in indianapolis where the colts have been snake bit by quarterback injuries and decisions from andrew luck retiring to carson wentz having a bone issue in his foot that required surgery. And of course this is the weekend at all gets underway with the two thousand and twenty and two thousand twenty one induction ceremonies in ken. Ohio and this class of two thousand twenty one is a great class. We've got all sorts of star players. We've got alan flannigan. The former steelers pro bowl guard. Calvin johnson the former lions wide receiver. John lynch the former safety for the bucks and broncos the guest on this week's podcast. We've got charles woodson great cornerback. Safety for the raiders packers michigan. Of course tom floors. The former coach of the raiders seahawks in bill nunn the former scout and personnel executive. Going in as a contributor as well as drew pearson former wide receiver of the dallas. Cowboys are great class of coming this weekend to under share a couple of things about what stands out about each allen. Fanta was a man that made pittsburgh's run game go nine times. He was selected to the pro bowl six times as an old pro selection. He was key on. Willie parker seventy five yard. Touchdown run in the super bowl and just a great player. Calvin johnson just a monster. Six five two thirty seven ran a four. Three forty went to six pro bowls. Led the league in receiving yards twice in two thousand twelve came within thirty six yards of becoming the first receiver. An nfl history to finish a season with two thousand yards. Never could win. It's a lot like barry. Sanders would be in detroit. His career never achieved from a team standpoint. Would it should have. Unfortunately and calvin johnson will be honored district peyton manning the sheriff of course the former quarterback culture and broncos a fourteen time pro bowl selection a seven time all pro selection so smart so polished and such a great pitching such a great marketing. Maven guy was incredible. Won a super bowl. Couple of super bowls went indianapolis one in denver. Really a model for what a quarterback should be. Charles woodson. Now again is grace. His career was and it was unbelievable..

"Don't expect to see in team drills during the first week of training camp caution and said they're going to be eased in but that's a big deal because especially with ford. John lynch said general manager. John lynch of course. He said that the team has taken a cautiously optimistic approach and they feel like they kind of have his injury figured out. He's been around the team. He's been in you know working out. And then as far as nick boza. He actually met burroughs from the athletic reporter that he's actually gotten faster in some of his testing and then with jalen hurd no. It's just been i imagine. He's been in bubble. Wrap this all the time and other gonna you know. Put him out there when he's ready kind of easing men as well but those three have a chance to contribute wide receiver. Three for four or heard d- ford even if he doesn't start that's going to be the pass rusher on obvious passing nouns. And then that nick bosa guy who's probably going to be the best player on the team in one of the best buyers. Nfl getting him back won't hurt either. So always your take away from the news on those three. Finally positive injury news for this team. I'll start with the ford. I think everyone expects that. Whatever he doesn't field it's gonna be found money 'cause you didn't Deformity even return to the team. A lot of people thought he would step away or be released Just because his contract with the rework that he's back for the season and passes fiscal which is huge. And i think they're gonna keep his workload light during the training camp process and make sure he just ready to go for the season he's gonna be on the colli leonard Load management plans and probably for the season you know Being really fresh hoping for the end of the season and seeing what he can contribute on the field then moved to jalen hurd. Obviously as we know there's competition and the third wide receiver spot jalen hurd former thorughout pick. Can he really step up and be the big slot wide. Receiver that caution in looking for george. Biddle was asked if you know he would be open. If if jalen hurd removed to be a tight end and that could be kind of interesting. I think jalen is big chess piece in this offense game. Just stay healthy and on the field massive And then the last guy.

"Sherman's arrest. This is a total downer right? It's depressing on every level. San Francisco 49ers trade up for the No. 3 pick

"The forty niners trade up to number three overall in the twenty twenty one draft. This was shocking. News to me. Came out right after my episode released on saturday or on friday after i sent over my episode but i normally just was not expecting Draft news to come this early. I feel like most years. The draft news comes a lot closer to the draft is still three or four weeks away but the forty niners did in their aggressive so they traded the twelfth overall. Pick a twenty twenty two third round compensatory pick and first round picks in twenty twenty two and twenty two thousand three for the miami dolphins number three overall selection so the dolphins moved to twelve where the four nine were previously listed. And now the forty niners move up to three. So what does this mean. First of all they swap a total of three first round picks. Is that smart to do. I think it is if they liked the guy. If they're convinced on one of these quarterbacks enough and they're confident that they can get them at number three. I think it's a great move because at this point the forty niners roster is loaded. They're trying to win now. And all they need is that future franchise cornerstone to kind of move that what roster forward and push them over the hump so they need to get the future of the franchise right while the roster and core are relatively young and talented like they are but overall. I think this is a great move by four hundred. Gm john lynch because he's been aggressive. He really inherited a mess in two thousand seventeen. They were coming off all the colin kaepernick drama Jim thome soula era. Which was a fun was which was really fun while it lasted Brian hoyer was his first quarterback when he got there he's made aggressive moves since he treated for jimmy garoppolo drafted. George kittle has fifth round. Pick one of the better draft picks in the past three four years. That's happened for five years. That's happened in the nfl. Just in terms of the value that he got that late in the draft

"On one other topic here because mel does have the niners moving up to take a quarterback now their general manager john lynch just yesterday in an interview said jimmy garoppolo. I expect him to be our quarterback next year. So what gives in san francisco. Yeah that's probably the boldest statement we've heard from john lynch but you could really play around with all the wording that they've used every single time they talk about jimmy garoppolo and it's still not the thing you wanna hear. If you want. Jimmy garoppolo stay in san francisco and that he is our guy. He's going nowhere. We are invested in. Here we can win with jimmy. You're never hear that because look at it this way. John lynch can just go back after the draft. Or if they decide to move on from jimmy and say yeah which is not going to hold his feet to the fire. They don't need to so the forty niners here from. I think we can all. It's been made very clear. They're not in love with jimmy garoppolo so the table is always open for them to make decisions

Far as the pitch from it is lightning, right? Like football. Yeah. Rain, sleet, snow don't matter. They played me bail. Yeah, claiming Z. Everybody get the hell out of there. And by the way, what the hell happened in that game? What was it like about an hour of extra time? 20 minutes. Yeah, I've never seen before. 30 minutes. 30 minutes? Yeah. 23 15 minutes. Split in half. That's how you get 30 minutes, right? Yes. So you get a night? Yeah, but let's just say West Ham. Uh, they don't have to worry about long F a cup run Manchester United one Mighty West Ham United Irons zero. That's okay. We're just concentrating. Shut up, Mike. Nobody ask you. How's Arsenal doing? That's what I thought. Mike Holer Arsenal fan. Just might hold it, by the way Communist. Just want people to know that. But what West and we're just worried about the Premier League, finishing in the top for getting into the Champions League? This f a cup business? We don't have time for that. Hey, You got time for that time for the UEFA Cup messing around. How many nicknames do the do The West Ham irons have that I mentioned West Ham. I said irons. Walker called him the Hammers. They are the hammers that suddenly we got what they like George attack Red yellow jackets, and they got like three different nicknames. Well, Iron is lt's Gobblers. I think are going to take as one more too. But so is what one is it Is it irons? I am the official wealth. It's okay. Okay, So the history West Ham is they were formed around the Shipbuilding industry in London, and an iron is something that they used like a. It's a basically a giant hammer to build the ships, so their irons air hammers. Got any. Which one you'd like to use? Okay. Very good. Well, there you go. There's your son West here only for the day. Not today. Probably for the rest of the month. Yeah, we're teaching people something. Teach you see you got I'm new to this. You guys got your team that tried to find one. And they're not on TV very often. But I just picked Leeds United because they're new. And I wanted to pick a team that maybe could stay awhile. So they looked like it on Is it on Fox and world? What do you ESPN Plus, uh, on NBC sports like channel to 21 or something like that. And then they'll be on NBC on the weekend. They usually have like a game of the week. NBC. So did get a few games here and there that if you want to, If you're that into it, I think there's a package you can buy can like You know, M o B extra innings and Sunday take it. I think you'll get a package where you pay, and you get all the games and stuff like that. I'm not doing that He taught, but yeah, so, but I try to watch here and here and there in a little bit. Walked like it. So what? You got me into it? Was into it a lot when there were no sports. I mean, I'll help I was like you're Judicially a expert. I was like all over the Bundesliga now. Not so much, but back then. Oh, yeah. Let's go, Leipzig. Here we go. They didn't shut it down The Bundesliga just kept going on. No, no, no. They should first. Yeah, they were there for like the first ones to come back. They came back about a month before. Three weeks to a month before baseball did, so they kind of had they kind of had the run of it. And it was funny because that's what I kept saying about baseball kicked your ass back because here I am Baseball fan. And I'm watching soccer because it's live sports and I'm thinking, OK, I just get into this and I enjoyed it. I don't know how many people are like me. But I'm thinking got a baseball would come back. How many people to say you know what a huge baseball fan but damn, I like sports. That's the only thing on TV right now, so let's go ahead. And watch it and they blew it, of course, because they're baseball and they came back, Reverend Same time, hockey and basketball game again. Look what e. You couldn't. You couldn't miss manage that any worse than they did. But anyway, so, Yeah, I was. I was kind of Going into watching soccer, especially on the weekends that non and you know golf. Everybody was watching golf, too. So it's got a golf and soccer and I think, Buddhist Lee it came back first. And then the Premier League came back a little bit after that, so yeah, well, just like what's on weekends like Oh, here we go. Let's start getting into some of these, Uh Get to some of these, uh Frankfurt's on sweet. Let's go. Here we go. I have no idea who they are. But let's try to find out who they are. And it was funny because last year I got kind of like Leipzig man and I couldn't like them the way they play, maybe always start watching the games. And about a week after that, they go. Yeah, we're trading burner, So okay. I've only been with you two weeks. I'm dropping right here. You know, in soccer, don't get used to the players. Exactly. You think they move a lot and in the states, you think free agency changes the landscape of football in this country. No, not like a soccer. I mean, those dudes are going..

"My mum. Thanks for joining us in this post Super Bowl Monday. Mikey Rule books is going to join us at 10 55 will get the chief's penalties in the second quarter. Dante Whitner at 12 30 for our season in review finale called 30 for that, and One of the NFL's news hall of Famers Tom Flores. At one o'clock. That was great news. John Lynch general manager The 40 Niners gets in his well, We'll give you the full list. But finally, one thing that you and I have talked about, it seems ad nauseum. When is Tom floor is going to get in? Tom Flores did get in. I don't know, of course, like helped. But probably didn't e think they already knew when they called on the ice man, and he's known, you know John John Lynch New on Championship Sunday. And we knew Tom was going to make the cut this year about a week and a half. So will tell us the whole story. But it is what time I remember. Time is very understated. Hey, didn't just don't have the The bravado of coach Madden. And I just, you know, Coach bad way to John made it. We're always a long time. He stopped coaching the Raiders in the late seventies. He didn't go to the Hall of Fame in 2006, and he had you know the platform of the most eyeballs on a football game. Whether it was CBS or Fox or Monday night football. And then he had EA Sports and the Madden game. It took all of that power to get John. Finally, you know, years later Into the Hall of Fame. But I remember that day so well then. L. Davis wrote this speech for John. And, um I got up and delivered it. But remember, I was sitting right next to Tom Floors that day in Canton of Raiders are gonna play the Eagles the next day. And in the Hall of Fame game, and Reggie White was being honored. He already lost Reggie And my brother was there, Gary and he wasn't doing well physically, but anyway, remember, sit next time and You could just feel that he felt like What is it gonna be? My turn One of my and he's not one to compare anything with Coachman Coachman was brilliant in his own way. Tom was on his staff obviously is an assistant coach and You know, played in the A F efforts for the entirety of the A F l hey, was a tremendous quarterback, And then he went to Kansas City and won a Super Bowl, ring back it up Lenny Dawson and then Eyes. An assistant coach. Actually, Buffalo hired him initially to work with O. J in that group and inhale brought him back, and he was essentially the Raiders offensive coordinator. During this glories of the seventies and all those big games. Coach Man is the head coach, and John was a brilliant game manager. And time. Became a head coach, and in his own unassuming way, you know Jim Plunkett, I think, overshadowing a little bit. The wild card team that pizza Philadelphia and Super Bowl. 15 came back in 18 and one again and it was Marcus Allen and his reversal in time just never got enough. Attention. It was a big reason why l wanted them on the radio broadcast, and then you know, he and I worked together for 21 years. But when Snake Stabler one engine and he was already passed It really here, Tom, and he was happy went down to the field and an honored it with the gray and snakes and all that. But I remember insane. What Damn good does it do to put him in after he's gone? So the thing with time and times 83. It's just so great. That he's going to be able to be enshrined in early August, assuming we have a normal enshrinement, and we don't think we hopefully we'll get there. Anyway. I mean, it's just do not get to see the pain when he was wondering why am I always being overlooked? He was happy for coach mad, but I think partly he was thinking, when is gonna be my turn my ever going to get in before I'm gone and That's why this was so important to get him in before. Before he he's gone, and he is so excited about it. No, tell us all kinds of stories. He said. He wasn't gonna have a drink way. No Coach Flora's well. He could fit in well here in the afternoon delight, so we'll find out what he did when he found out but Congratulations to him. Talking. I'm really excited to talk to about one o'clock Tom floor is finally gets into the Hall of Fame. Charles Woodson gets in on his first try pick Manning gets in on her his first try, maybe a surprise with the Megatron Calvin Johnson getting on his first try. And then, of course, John Lynch gets in in that had to be special for him because it was in Tampa Allen fan. Icka who, by the way is so skinny now you can't even recognize that I don't believe that that pulling guard with the Steelers and later he was like a baker down or something. Honey, I shrunk Allen fan Icka happened there. Bill Nunn Drew Pearson. Remember a couple years ago? He was very upset, but Drew Pearson, the former cowboy gets in the hall famous well, so it great. Class for 2021. As you said, maybe Hopefully, we'll be able to get this thing enshrined correctly. But the boy you get get a couple of Raiders. There. You get John Lynch a buck. Maybe we could have a box or Excuse me a Raiders. And 49 years old fame game. It wouldn't be bad. I texted that right away. Everybody involved and we we thought about it a few times over the years when But then the vote didn't go the right way. But you got Charles Woodson and it's funny, Charles. Is probably known for being a Raider more than being a Packer. But his best days as far as notoriety and I think the way Green Bay used him, they moved him to safety. They allowed him to move around a little more and make plays on the ball. The Charles was a tremendous off offensive. You know Guy with the ball in the stands, is a kick and punt returner and Jon Gruden when he was here would run free Mind personnel where Charles is from Fremont, Ohio, and I think he had 1 19 yard catch against the charges all he ever had, but they They scream. They let him be an athlete. He was just such an incredible athlete. So probably his Betty. Better body of work was his years in Green Bank looting the Super Bowl, but he broke his collarbone in that game that was so painful. Literally and figuratively that he could not come back in and finish that off. But he gave a great speech. You also got on the former president Barack Obama. Yeah, had to beat the bears along the way, and then Charles did come back and finished up his career. As a raider, so he is widely popular. So I'm all for a 40 Niner Raider Hall of Fame game. Assuming we can have a Hall of Fame game this year that maybe one that gets scrapped or how many preseason games that we play. If they do scrap one that may be the first one But the power Charles, which in the popularity What the new Raider nation and in time going back decades and decades and what he did as a player in the sixties and assistant coach in the seventies. I head coach in the eighties and then as a broadcaster. 21 years and then John Lynch's well, it would be a Natural. I'm certainly hoping because I know Coach floor is swimming were all able to do. It wants me to show up in in Canton and be a lot easier if I brought the 40 Niners along, Jack, which way we go with this terrific, But we're gonna get John Lynch on the show tomorrow. And I think John You know, there's a process to this when you have to wait so long. You know if your first ballot Hall of Famer like Charles and Peyton and Megatron was going to get in, anyway, I didn't think he was worthy of a first ballot. But what's the difference? Well, get in. At some point But John, you know, like Coach floor is said to be.

"About how about Sala? He's watching the press conference. He's thinking Erin's of said So does he call his buddy? That missile or a bomb has his brother do it? Call your other, bro. It's a H. Much for a Rod McCall again. Your honor, like next wedding, So I have a second way to your data that would either so Maybe they got the second pick to get Sam Darnel dummy. Come on, That's not happening. Well, it's probably more likely that I'm training him do a contender in the NFC like the Rams of the 40 Niners. Oh, you're the Packers. Hey, John Lynch calls and any if I'm Jim John Lynch, it's my job to call. But if he calls it's like, and I see John Lynch. I know why you're calling. I put that straight. The voice had lunch on line one. Matt. Hey, good CD. I would say this is the Super Bowl last year. When you came to our party after we lost the Super Bowl to Kansas City, and you were there to pick us up. I'm just calling to see how you're doing. Quarterback seems unhappy E wanted. How'd you do that? Would you call somebody like that? Yeah. You get the small, dark approach that well, you know how you start. You know, Jordan love you picked him in the first round. He's not gonna play for years. They're right way. Aaron Rodgers looks great. Would you trade Jordan Love early in a guy maybe. Oh, I see how you're doing it because it's not what happened with talk to do with Brady. Yeah, they're like and then give John credit because right now he's even admitted this. He did ask about Brady did say Well, apparently asked. Yes. Bella checkered, betrayed Brady Village acceptable. What did you just ask me? You know, the owner has my line tapped here. Exactly. He's like I would. You wouldn't Mr Massage will not trade him. I won't. So what do you think? Village X? They could by the way Right now. He's like, Do you think he texted Tom and said, Hey, congratulations. Do you think, he said, We know that Brady would not have lasted a knowing that was all there opt outs on defense, Hightower and Chong and although you know they didn't have the same team So Anu and Danny Miller would've been their best receiver. He's what is he? Four in Tampa, even their best receiving runs a four to he's pretty good player. You know, everybody's acting like they're so surprised that the goat did this to this terrible Tampa team. What do we say the day that he signed with them? We were looking at the schedule in the 40. Niners may have to play Tampa in the Super Bowl in Tampa and the NFC championship game. I mean, they were seven and nine last year because of all the families they committed. And their quarterback was a turnover machine and this to go from and they made other upgrades as well. That turned out well for them for net turned out, you know, after Kaufman cut him off the team and No need for that starts down was big time. But are you shocked the Tampa Bay after watching them this year? I didn't think they were the best team in the NFC and you've got to give him credit. They went on the road to beat a surge in Washington team. They did beat New Orleans on the road. I know true wasn't sure. But still and then to go on the lam Bo and beat Aaron Rodgers. Now they got the hell you pull off this foursome and beat Patrick Mahomes. I don't care where you're playing the game. That'll be impressive, But during the season they had ups and downs. But going back to last March when he said, I'm going to Champa are you shocked? The Tampa went to the Super Bowl. We all kind of thought that was a Possibility. No, everything is worked out well for them. They started seven and five, and then they went on the bye week, and they've gone seven l. This is one thing that usually doesn't carry from season to season. They had the most Points off turnovers in the league plus 1 20. They were plus 14 yesterday against Green Bay, So they got a bunch of turnover points. I think Devon White took a step up. I think their defense like a step up. Sean Murphy, Sean Bunting, Murphy, the guy that got the interception, he took a step up. They got Antoine Winfield in the first round. There are a lot of things happened when they play yesterday. Went filled union was certain he was lost. He's a good player, so yeah, they Billy me. Brady brought it all together. But T say that there wasn't a bunch of the things around him. That got them here. Their defense one in the second half. It's not a sexy thing to talk about, but he threw three interceptions. They got one touchdown. So you are the reason he went there is, you know they had a great defense check paired, led the NFL in sacks last year. And he was number one here in monster yesterday. Like you, said Pierre Paul in those two guys. Any quick. Wagner went in the hotel one time and said, Can you slide protection my way a little bit. Can you help me out here? Guys reckon the game especially all the other guy. Jpp is also record Billy Turner's days. What do we do? It's Max protect. Let's keep them all in half is I don't even know how J p p does. It just would have liked what land is it left and right, and that's all backed and Johnny didn't get that back After he listen to Katy Perry 1 July fourth. He's fine over that now. Over the first year that That club? Yeah, here war That was crazy. It's like that's crazy. But did he don't probably lose any digits. I thought he did. I thought he had that one of his fingers was a stub. Maybe I'm wrong. I could go back and double check that. I thought I could be wrong, though. Company asked the time Dempsey it's true. I'm sorry she passed away. Somebody asked this question. I'm sure they're not gonna do this. I know it's a quote unquote home game for Tampa, but this is not going to normal. Like you said. It's gonna be 22,000. They're giving away what 7500 to first responders. This is gonna be the biggest fat cat Super Bowl there ever is. Joe Six packs not get in this place. But somebody asked whether they were going to fire the cannons. I thought it's not a home game. I mean, I guess they're not thinking fire. The cannon e Assume Tampa's gonna wear their their home, pewter. They're gonna be the home team, right? I soon because the games in the NFC stadium so they'll be the home team. Yeah. Yeah, because the 40 Niners with road team last year, so they'll be the home champ. No, They're not firing the cannons. Hell, no, It's not gonna be Like a champ, a home game. Unless the guy who runs the board is he works for the bucks, and he probably does, and he slips it in But there would not be copasetic if you know. Do you really want to do that? And piss off? Patrick? No homes, no se se. You score the first touchdown of the game. You have seven nothing. They fire the cannons. Ugo. Here it comes. You gotta cannon. We got a machine gun. See later, 45 7 by halftime. Don't get down there way got to get to the good booze, But this is interesting. This was in Peter King's, Uh uh, column this morning, Monday morning Quarterback. Yes. Oh, they did. He wrote the length of discussion for the 18 candidates. For the Hall of Fame. Peyton Manning 13 seconds, but it was nobody even spoke. They they played the clip. It was David Baker getting on the line and making some line about Got anybody wanna discuss fate? Manning, and I don't think any sort of the 13 seconds was all a big David Baker talking. I don't think anybody else said anything. It was like, you know, the one writer from Indy. What's his name's chaperone? Mike Shepherd. Oh, you may have said something, but no, there was nothing to be said. Uh, long time about John Lynch, though, didn't see that's the thing. I don't I don't know what this means. I mean, obviously it means that both sides were debating it. But Calvin Johnson, Megatron the most 39 minutes 28 seconds. John Lynch second most 36.55. Laura's 27 45. So I guess if Sam's in, dude Yeah, never course light. It's over. You're putting a man Are you sure you're not gonna please don't don't do that to him again. But if it's Lynch, for example, 36 minutes 55 seconds, which was second most to Calvin Johnson. Then you're.

"I don't think I want to want to give up George Kettle or your friend Warner in front. Warner's even in a position where the Texans grab him. You're you know, there's if you're include him in some sort of trade. You know, he's not going to step on. The field without a new contract that's gonna pay in 15, plus a year 15 million plus a year. So doesn't make sense. Even for the Texans Toe Get a guy who's Ah high price guys, so I don't know It's a difficult one. But I mean, my recommendation would be and what I would think would happen is if the Texas make that decision that you know this isn't going to be something that they can work their way through. 40. Niners got to be on the phone calling on the phone and have to see if something is doable. And then from there, I think a lot of it has to do with out what other teams are offering because other teams have more to offer the Texans and draft picks in the 40. Niners. D O obviously, to Sean starts to because of the no trade clause, But let's let's let's step back from it from a minute. Because because I also remember a few months ago, you you're one of the few that That I think if backed into a corner, said a couple of months ago. I think that maybe somebody other than Garoppolo will be the starter week one. Well, how is that developed over the next couple of months, and what's your sort of overall view on it now? Yeah, It definitely was what I was thinking And I think what happened in you heard it late in the season and from both tile CNN in, uh, John Lynch was that they both came out and stated, And we expect Jimmy Garoppolo to be the starting quarterback, and I think they had just a little bit because of a situation like this. If the Shawn Watson were to fall in their laps, say it's really important for the Texans to get him out of the Out of the conference over into the NFC, But I think what probably happened was you look at it and you go. Okay? If not Jimmy Garoppolo. Then who and what's the price to get a quarterback that you're gonna want? Who can step in? What's the price in money? What's the price and draft picks? And just how does it set your team up? And so I think what happened was after after doing some of the initial due diligence, the thought within the organization became. It's just not gonna make sense. We we can't do it. So you know are they 100% committed to Jimmy Garoppolo next season? No, but I think they're pretty darn close to it, and they certainly want to They certainly want to send that message to Garoppolo before the start of the offseason that Hey, we trust in you. You know the old thing, right? I'm your our quarterback until you're not our quarterback, But you don't ever want to send that message that this guy isn't your quarterback without knowing for sure. Uh, that you can. You can do something better. So just from a confidence standpoint for is standing within the organization you really Do you have to send that match a message that he's coming back, But I think I think, however you and I cut this thing up and look at it and toss around the ideas. Remember now late in the season, and I heard you was going heading into December. There was a possibility for theirs could be selecting like five or six. Sure, and then was a couple wins. You know, now it became their selecting 12. And so that that's a lot right there where you cannot. You simply cannot go into a draft at number 12 banking on getting the quarterback that's gonna be your quarterback for the next dozen years. By the way before we leave this one entirely..

"Okay, Well, that's good stuff. I right now a little bit back more on Brady. It seems a foregone conclusion that he will play in the 2021 regular season. I think he has what one year left on his contract. Right, so we're not even that's not even as we go, no matter what happens on Sunday. That's not even an issue going into the summer time. I don't think it is. I mean, I think you're gonna be hoist. You know the Lombardi Trophy for the seventh time, you know, and it's hard to fathom these numbers He's been in. This is the 14th. Conference championship games. I mean, that's just great. It's absurd. Absolutely service that Jerry Rice, Sir, you know, it's like the way rice distance himself. This is what he's done. Yeah. And now he did it without Belle check right now. We did it without Bella check, And I think that was very much on Brady's mind. Hey, let me get out of here. Let me prove That I'm the guy that's been running this dynasty and Fox burrow and guys based on this season. I know it's a short Look at things. But based on this season, Brady covered up a lot of problems in New England over the years. Are we going to start turning on Belichick? Now? We can say balletic was overwhelmed all. Let's go. Yeah. Far, I think he'll be back if he gets a clip. I mean, you've got to get a quarterback. That's it. Yeah. Speaking of which do you with you, Shawn Watson. If you weren't caught up with these, this pewter run to the NFC Championship will be Talking about the dish on Watson. A sweepstakes here. So going Hey, real quick on Bruce Arians here. We're talking to Ira Kaufman, the dean of Tampa Bay Sports. Long time. Tampa Bay Bucks writer. If you open champions work like he said, Don't forget Stanley Cup right world Syriza and that when he was saying the globe spot on the globe, forget the country. I read the globe. We're talking. Yeah. Bruce Arians in Tom. We tried to make something of that early season thing where it seemed like they had no, maybe over reading into quotes or all that. But the quote that came out last night that I'm just saying this morning is from area and saying Brady's a consummate leader has been all year. He's got the air of confidence that permeates through our team every day. I allow him to be himself. And then he says, this ready like New England didn't allow him to coach I allow him to coach. Jeez, I just sit back sometimes and watch. What do you make of that? What do you make of that? That's a smart man. Bruce Arians. That's a smart man. Um, you know, people say, Well, wait a minute. You can't let the inmates run the asylum. This is Tom Brady. This is Tom breaks you, You structure your offense around Tom Brady. That makes sense. If you don't, you're a moron and your point's well taken Look. They were seven and five going into the last quarter of the season. They just lost three out of four. And you're right. Trying a parcel the quotes from Arians from Brady, whose offense is this? It's a problem. The Bucks might not make the playoffs. And here we are. Six weeks. Six wins later, nobody squawking. Um you know Kumbaya. Everybody's into this thing and You know what this is Tom Brady's team. And you know why we know that because Bruce Arians in February. And March that I want Tom Brady. And if you want Tom Brady, you know, ahead of time. That you're going to structure your whole offense. Maybe your whole team around Brady. And once they got him on March, 20th Everything changed. Here comes Gronkowski. Right? There comes for net here comes up Antonio Brown. We're all in. We're all in and right now. It looks like a pretty damn good experiment. High spot on the glove. IRA. Good stuff, man. Hey, Before we let you go, we remember from our enjoyable chat with you in the spring that you are that rare breed that Tampa Bay, Florida residing San Francisco Giants baseball fan, right? I am. And there ain't much to talk about, gentlemen, because, you know Kristina team makes so many irrelevant signings, guys you never heard of, Um I think maybe maybe in three years, I think the reason for optimism Giants fans is, you know, I think their farm system is better than it has been. That's been a big problem, and I think, you know they spent some money with some international guys and I just Bobby Evans Guys. I thought he was a disaster. Absolute disaster and You know, um s 00? Yeah. One more thing, guys. Um, Wish me luck because tomorrow I am making the presentation for John Lynch to be in the Hall of Fame. Gentlemen, that's tomorrow. Okay, well, you know, he's been with a zoom call. He's been known to tune into the Murph in maximum. On occasion. He could be listening right now. So you know, you wanna give us a little sneak preview? All right. This is his eighth year in a row as a finalist. Um, And you know, I had a little early success with Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks and Dunn. Gee, um, but I've hit a roadblock with John Lynch and The problem is he doesn't have overwhelming statistics. And these guys from Seattle and Pittsburgh and Tennessee. They didn't see John Lynch Plate. And they don't know the Rolling hills and how intimidating you was. So you can't. You can't explain to John Lynch with statistics. He was a winner. He was a leader, and I don't think anybody would represent the NFL's shield. In Canton better than John Lynch. You know, we're just saying that about IRA out here in the West last week. Actually, Murph and I were talking about dream on green on the Warriors. Same kind of thing like he's not gonna fill up the stat sheet. But if you just simply watch him play night in night out, he's a Hall of Famer, dummy. Draymond Green's a Hall of Famer, but he doesn't have the numbers very similar to what you just said about John Lynch. You gotta watch. You have to have seen Lynch play. And you mentioned at the intimidation like he was a fierce, fierce presence back there. And, you know, guys, you can't play like that anymore. But back then, and I think of which played now I think you would make an adjustment. He's that smart on that versatile. Um so you know you're right about dream on green, you know? These guys are winners. And, you know, winning follows these guys for a reason for a reason. Ira man, if we could we could talk to you about. I don't know any your Netflix recommendations or whatever I was like, Well, yeah. So we'll chase it down. Here we go. Will chase you down the crown. That's your one. Yeah, I walk in the crown, baby. OK, Very good. Very good..
