Buttigieg Says Biden and GOP Remain Far Apart on Infrastructure
"And GOP hoped to strike a deal on infrastructure. On Friday, President Biden rejected the Republican counter offer John Lawrence reports, the two sides are still far apart. Biden. White House's infrastructure plan is still under construction. There a lot of conversations going on among a lot of members of the Senate and over on the House side on Wednesday, there's going to be a markup for a key part, a key element Of infrastructure policy, so lots going on right now, but still lots of daylight honestly between us and our Republican friends. Despite that daylight, the transportation secretary is defending the administration's decision to continue talking with Republicans over going it alone. Democrats and Republicans are still billions of dollars away from securing a deal. As the 2022 midterm elections grow closer, Republicans are going to be talking about defining themselves based on our differences on things like what is infrastructure. Biden has a paper thin majority in the Senate, so he needs the backing of key Democratic moderates like Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia to get the package through without Republican support for Manchin says he wants to bridge the gap with the GOP. We need a bipartisan infrastructure bill. We most definitely need that and infrastructure. Something's been delayed for far too long by past administrations, so it's time for us to move forward. But for both sides, the clock is ticking. And there's not a lot of policy there. This is just numbers. It's helping the country and and we ought to be able to find a resolution on that if we can't that spells trouble.

"It's difficult to keep the distal station security, so I think it's a good thing. It's difficult because of the weather, but I think it's a good thing. A Parisian tourist who, when she goes home will be delighted to find a city where 100 streets are from this week mask. That was John Lawrence and reporting from Le Touquet in the north of France. You're listening to news hour from the BBC. My name's Paul Henley. Now you foreign ministers are planning to meet on Friday to discuss whether to impose sanctions on Belarus. There seems to be a consensus. The European Union must demonstrate that it's on the side of protesters who say elections in the former Soviet state were rigged in favor ofthe the authoritarians President Alexander Lukashenko. But what action will be taken by Brussels weaken. Talk now live to the president of Lithuania, Belarus's northwestern neighbor. His name is Gitana Snore, Seda and he joins me, President Nacido. You've made it clear That you'd like to mediate. What do you propose first ofall. We proposed to escalate the situation and terminates the use ofthe force against the Belarussian people immediately. The urge to stop violence on call for respect ofthe fundamental freedoms. Human and citizen rights, including the Freedom off speak Media assembly and ensure safety off journalists. Many people from all over the world have called for that It hasn't had any effect so far. Okay, but this absolutely necessary. You know that to establish old efforts, Tio find the peaceful solution. But it's not Ah, sufficient and secondly, to stop father persecution and urgently release all detained protesters and thirdly, immediately initiated dialogue. This Russian people based on the experience off our own societies and on our personal experience. The earth the Belarussian authorities to organize the national consolation round table comprised of representatives of the government and civil society. If those conditions are fulfilled, the president's awfully Sena, Latvia, Estonia and Poland are ready to participate. Are ready to take the responsibility ofthe mediator asked soon as possible. Your capital is only 200 kilometers or so away from Minsk. But you're very different places. Do you have on any kind of open line of dialogue with the government in Belarus right now? Yes, they have certain by a diplomatic channels. We used very actively. Also two months ago, I had the telephone call if Mr Lukashenko President Lukashenko. And so we try to establish the contact of the Russian authorities hold the time, although we have some quite controversial issues on the agenda, and one of those fish uses nuclear power plant in north rivets. Fish is already completed and which creates a lot of traditional tension on now it's it's it's really a big big question about the perspective off this nuclear power plant. Having in mind the current political situation in Belarussia. What does Alexander Lukashenko's say? When you put it to him that he's an authoritarians? Others called him a dictator. Uh, you know, we can call uh, Mr Lukashenko differently. But first ofall the Gaff Tio make very clear statements about what happened last Sunday in Belorussia, and to be unfortunately, can speak about not free and not Based on the human rise elections in this country, and the results off this election is very questionable. So this is the reason why the are questioning all soul the mandate off the contents of a mental Belarussia. And if Minsk is not interested in dialogue if it's not interested in making peace, with its Neighbours in the west, what sanctions will be imposed? The quiet could be different kinds off sanctions first ofall. I should remind you that tomorrow there will be the confidence off foreign ministers, ministers of foreign affairs ofthe European Union countries. Aye. They will decide or also on the issue off sanctions, and they will decide but also about the relations of Belarussia. They might be solution. Oh, are about the sanctions at the European Union level, but even if it will not take place. There are the possibilities. Tio takes the sanctions on the national level, and next week, the will be extraordinary meeting off Lithuanian parliament. And one topic on the Chanda is possible sanctions to Belarus about about about sanctions on the national list off ofthe persons, which have to do this if their results for productions so sanctions on individuals not trade connections on the videos, because you know it's tricky thing to the imply. Ah imposed the sanctions economic sanctions on this country because they might have negative consequences for the economy off Melrose and also for the ordinary people. Sure if there were economic sanctions and if they were you wide, which is, as you say, far from a given Belarus could probably why ride them out? Couldn't its trade with EU is dwarfed by its trade with Russia to the east. This is a good question, so I think that first of all, they have to use all the tools for the peaceful solution off this conflict and on ly if those efforts will fail. Unfortunately, I cannot neglect the probability off sailor. Then they can get go a step forward and to imply stronger sanctions on Bela Rose. President many thanks that is the president of Lithuania. Atanas? No, Seda. Thank you very much for joining us here with the BBC World Service. Now the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has called it the most urgent shed endeavor of our lifetimes, but leaving aside the highly technical business of formulating a Corona virus vaccine that does work. Is also the.

There van gets repossessed so they don't have any transportation so they're trying to figure out how they can get some transportation. So they're trying to find a vehicle and they come in contact with Pecker head or as a as he likes to be called Friends Compaq. It's kind of like a a redneck Hillbilly Kinda guy he's living out of his van and he decides he. is going to drive them and kind of be his their Rhody. So on this trip, they find out after their first GIG that. At midnight pack becomes a flesh eating demon. And so I wanNA say kind of hilarity ensues they don't know what to do. They continue on with their tour and from stop to stop and they're trying to keep the center control. But I will say that David Littleton who plays pack is. Plays it. Awesome. As you heard the interview I Kinda Got Sid. Haig fuel from him and I think a lot of people who watched horror movies we'll kind of get that. But he i. mean you know being the main source of what this movie is about he does a great job of playing this. Rhody flesh eating Demon Kenna you know he's almost a father figure and a friend and everything he he does a great job and playing this role and all three of the actors. Ruby McCullough stor who plays the drummer, Mel Jeff Riddle who plays Max and Chet Siegel who plays Judy? She's kind of the head of the band. All three of them have a great dynamic they have good. Comedic timing with their jokes and some of it is it's kind of a dry humor that I like but found it very hilarious. The Gore in it is really the type of Gore that you would. You would think of in a fun comedy type. You know it's the the blood that sprays out when it happens and I'm not going to give it away. But one of my favorite scenes involves metal heads, which when you watch it, you'll see it you'll understand. An overall this I can't recommend this movie enough like I really enjoyed this film and found it very have watched it multiple times already. I can't wait to own it myself and it's one that I think will kind of be in my rotation of that movie unions just put on and it's just fun and you just have a good time with it. Michael, thanks. Clayton. Neville reporting from Dallas for I live. But we have this bulletin that just came into the Westwood One newsroom, but Missouri Senate has passed a Bill to ban abortions at eight weeks of pregnancy, Missouri. Governor Mike parson had yesterday called on state Senator. To take action on a Bill to ban abortions at the eight week point. It's the latest GOP dominated state emboldened, by the possibility that the more conservative supreme court could overturn Roe v. Wade, this Missouri proposal does include some exceptions for medical emergencies, but not for pregnancies caused by rape, or incest. Doctors would face five to fifteen years in prison for violating the eight week cutoff, but women who receive abortions at eight weeks, or later into pregnancy would not be prosecuted. This as Democrats in abortion rights advocates are calling Alabama's new abortion law, a slap in the face to women voters. The state's Republican governor Kay Ivey has signed the legislation making performing an abortion in Alabama a felony in nearly all cases. And that, of course, designed Domos deliberately basically to be illegal so that it will perhaps, get to the supreme court where they hope that the newly conservative majority will overturn Roe v. Wade if they have the chance. All right. That's where we are this morning. On that. And it is twelve minutes past the hour, we've got much more to come. Stay with.

I didn't need to see that that was an another thing. I can't remember who brought this up. I think maybe aerial Halawani on his intimate podcast because he's a pro wrestling fan one thing that he said that made me Kinda raise an eyebrow Ongo like maybe he's right. Is You know triple. I don't think anyone is saying that triple. H is really moving the needle so maybe he needs to stop and focus on just being an executive because he's like area Wani. said he's cheapening his role as at executive by saying but hold on let me put the SPANDEX on and I'm GonNa get back in there and lumber around against you know fifty year old Kista what if John Lawrence was getting their Harley to now that being said wrestlemainia Seventeen Vincent Man Shane McMahon but that had a storyline that was moving the needle. Mr Fourth row says poor Michael Cole sounds like his voice isn't GonNa make it through the remainder of Wrestlemainia has talked with because he had to be talking for ten trade hours well another thing if you're fan of Pat McAfee Pat McAfee shared a story and I sent it to you via text message Pat McAfee shared a story where Michael Cole just ate up Pat McAfee in in front of events and Shane Stephanie and triple h and all the other celebrities backstage because of his attire to the point where Pant McAfee was like fucking quit like till my call he can go fuck himself and had to be Vince McMahon was ignited on cool with it. This guy is worth time here W._B.. And I thought you screwed it up. So that's why it's a great story. Go and Pat McAfee is YouTube channel. Check it out twelve minute video his wearing those like he's wearing a suit but he was wearing shorts like the the a suit shorts that Lebron water and well. He wears the George for like inex- takeover so he he got a little bit more high class with wrestlemainia weird like that to get it if they were like short sleep suit jacket also maybe I guess if you had a vest town and a short sleeve. Maybe some shoot but I just don't Oh man I don't get I don't get a long sleeve shorts combination of any kind of because it makes me think that your upper bodies called in your lower bodies hot it makes no fucking sense gets weird to me out but that's me. I don't know I wear it isn't weird how like longbottom short top we're totally fine with but short bottoms long top man. You're a Weirdo talk to me yeah exactly I know it's a contradiction prediction. One hundred percent at Theo seventy-five says recycle that Vegan built Kofi is W._W._e.. Champassak tweet the table. Yeah you got a couple more tweet tables because I think we should transition and Ron smackdown yeah the final one here for Wrestlemainia. The already that we've done is at Katie. First Lady Says Lacy Evans W._W._e.. Hall of Fame Award Robe that is all Hashtag truth table we see Evans is coming out and some <hes> very <hes> review like I don't WanNa say revealing but very form-fitting clothing yeah <hes> form-fitting definitely aw gift I saw was in the fight that we'll talk about coming up on smackdown. I think it was right <hes> or she went up against Becky Lynch <hes> when Becky Lynch's beaner like she's in these heels and she's like sliding on the ramp. She can't get footing skating yeah all right yeah. That was all the truth tables for this yeah. We've got a few more for coming up through on smackdown but we need to roll into those yeah yes. Let's share our thoughts about Ron smackdown. I'll go first since I just kicked it off. I I thought that this year's Ron smackdown was treated a little bit differently and I think that this is what it's going to be treated as for the next years to come especially with the brand split and I think it was treated this year as party right so you go into next takeover you go into the hall of fame you go into Wrestlemainia and then Ron smackdown because we have the draft next week was almost not like a throw away but like a hey all your favorites are here. Don't you WanNa say hi and we got some fun little fights so we got Braun Strowman Samoa Joe we at the Bar attacking Kofi and seth and so they felt like you know almost like a tribute to the troops where it's like you get these fun on weird matchups with no stories. I felt like that's how they treated both Ron smackdown where it was like. Let's just see happens here but you're going to get your favorites. Here's Seth Rollins in Becky Lynch and Kofi in so nothing of substance like a season isn't premier typically has but I think that was on purpose because I think their season premiere. It's GonNa Start next week with the draft right. I think so to it. I don't even know the necessarily GONNA call the draft right there. Just this superstar show superstar shakeup essentially essentially this thing but right yes so I think that's why we didn't necessarily get the debut of the undisputed era on the main roster or anything like that. We've got kind of while I didn't expect Braun. Strowman to show up wants back down. Wow I didn't expect the Barshop on all things like that right. Yep Okay so <hes> the thing that I thought was bad ass about raw kicking off was just how they kicked it off at covy coming out and just straight up being like let's double or Nathen you know what I mean like. He was just no man. I was just like I literally I. I caught it when he was like and the women had this big moment that have this like you know what I mean. The two titles unification is a great big moment for them and I just went no no no way and then when they didn't like when nobody came out to stop it and they can't talk about it. I was like Holy Shit. Is this going to happen and then you gotTa Brag Nasa. He's GonNa have in the match and I was like God damn well yeah and so there was some reaction especially from big e as it happened when it changed from title versus title to a tag match and Biggie tweeted out. y'All just wouldn't be happy the entire our time and I can't be like yeah. This is my escape from my fucking nine to five so yeah I kind of do want to be happy all the time so fuck off this was a big deal big moment and it was a balls moment for Kofi and now just like their mind we all get tagged bar because of the fucking bar we all get robbed of that because of the fucking bar this is this is my problem with over promise under deliver right so it's GonNa Promise title versus title you have to deliver on something crazier than the bar for example if you wanted to go down that route where it's title title but then it gets interrupted at turns into a tag match that's then when you put in the undisputed era makes fix their debut on the roster right because that's going to be memorable but the bar is kind of forgettable tag-team especially right now in their current flux of winning and losing kind of whenever we see fit so if you wanted the tag matched end you could have done it a different way to still have Kofi and Seth Rollins at the end of the night put titles in the air. You could have had the bar. Come out just to say seth you think you're the new champ <hes> you can't you know race to our standard worthy bar and tonight you find a partner. It's US versus you right and then at the end of the night set comes out and he's like it's good to have friends even on your show and that's when Kofi could come out and then you have champion and champion versus the bar then we're clapping lapping instead of you make tag match because you over promised a winner take all and now we've turned on you and say this is bullshit. I mean the crowd booed the rest of the time. We thought they were straight up about to do it. I thought they were like Holy Shit. They're going to give this to Kofi and have him be like the fuck doc in like straight up one but then like I said you got the bar and even how you said it. It's the fucking bar the foot your do that wouldn't have been cool. If it was the undisputed era though right right yeah why didn't they come out and fuck shit a bright some Bray Wyatt fuck up with something like so adding Brash at be underscore double underscored D._C.. Who's the writer backstage with the massive hard on for the Bar Hashtag tweet the table while they are awesome? I will say that and on paper well yeah in the I._W._C.. Loves the say like wouldn't this matchup be cool and on paper if I tell you Kofi Kingston and Seth rollins versa seth rollins and and Zara you're gonNA say like that's going to be a good match right so Lisa Arce Massara. It's a serviceable match. It's just the storyline telling was as I mentioned over promise under delivered. It was just poorly written for the outcome that they wanted because the outcome it seemed like they wanted was both the W._W._e.. And the universal champion or holding the titles high at the end of the show which again you could have accomplished in a different way. It's just weird that yeah that's that's the route they went because you knew in the end that you weren't going to have the titles unified..

"john lawrence" Discussed on Talk 1260 KTRC
"Should be a good time. One of our guests will be John Lawrence. John an author wrote a book called the classes, seventy four about the freshman class in congress following Watergate. And was also speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi's chief-of-staff and lives about half year. Aaron Santa Fe John will be one of our guests tomorrow. Does dining Andrew Turkic joins us. Now, she is the border reporter for the Albuquerque. Journal happy new year. I'm glad you're feeling better. Thank you. Happy new year, Richard. All right. You were I don't know if you under the weather last week when secretary Nielsen visited southern New Mexico is also the the press was not invited to company the secretary of homeland security on her review of the border. I know you're reporter, you're not in the in the business of offering opinion, which I did freely liberally around here her visit to New Mexico. But what have you what did you hear around sector Nielsen? Visit. Correct. It was not open to any media should not make any public comments. What what she did was tour? Some of these holding cells these areas where some of these children, you know, the two children who died were being kept in these very cramped conditions and moved around several locations, she she reiterated that they will now be doing screening for all children, especially focusing on both under ten years old to try and prevent any any further harm or destitute. Children in custody. Are there? Still children being held in in cages. Well, there are two groups of children. There are the ones that come with their parents. And they're now kept with the parent in in very crowded according to border patrol. We can't see this facility. So we're not allowed in. But at that there there are especially in this area of New Mexico so many coming. They've been been kept at in holding cells, but some of them like the little boy who died the most recent deaths from Guatemala. He was actually he and his father turn themselves into board paternal pestle, but they were moved to a border highway checkpoint holding area and kept their so these again are not facility set up for families much less young children. They were there to temporarily hold my mainly adult now and people may be going through the checkpoints that were caught with drugs temporarily. So this this is an issue now there are other children, the ones you're talking about it that were held in cages and these border patrol facilities that we've seen some of those images from from south, Texas and those were holding. Sales for unaccompanied children were then supposed to go into health and human services custody if they don't have a parent or guardian or or sponsor as they're called can who can vouch for the children, and that whole process has been delayed because they were doing checks on entire household. It's not just the actual parent or guardian who is going to sue them responsibility for the child Angela reports to fourteen thousand kids still being held without your parents separated from their families is that possible. Yes. And the numbers have continued to grow over the years of the unaccounted. They're called unaccompanied minors user young children teenagers who come up to the border on their own. But the vast majority do have someone in the US or relative children, I've interviewed in Mexico. I've covered this issue. For many years is a Central American children coming up playing either gang violence, poverty, and very very often trying to reunite with a parent or other family members in the US. So that whole process was delayed because of those chicks between. Information is so some families or were afraid to come forward and claim their child. So they're still being held. The big notorious tent city in our area of the border near southern New Mexico on the Texas side of the state line. That's scheduled to finally shut down at the end of January and some that that facility has stopped taking new teenagers. But again, the kids who aren't reunited, they're just being moved to another facility temporary temporary in homestead Florida. Going from Texas to Florida. Yes. Some will be reunited because they have, you know, decided not to do background checks. And we started seeing some of the kids. I'm out of here in this region. But you know, it's just little by little many hundreds more stone in being held in. I guess you'd come detention facilities, but they're they're called shelters Angela triggers our guest, he's the board reporter for the Albuquerque journal down in Las Cruces in the in the southern border of New Mexico following the death of Jacqueline the seven year old girl from Guatemala, the border patrols to they are going to move medical equipment down to the border to better. I guess treat diagnose immigrants coming across the border to antelope wells and other points, and then following the death of the nine year old boy also from Guatemala, the border patrol said everything was done to save the boys live everything was done correctly. Well, there will be an investigation. Now, we're hearing from a congress looking into these migrant child destined to determine an independent investigation because our internal investigations underway right now on the border patrol d- office of inspector general, but congress wants to do their own independent investigation to see what are the procedures in place? Are they adequate we're the one where they even followed, and, you know, congress people who toured the New Mexico AMRO boils, and then later lawrenceburg substation border patrol said there was not even a thermometer available to take a temperature. And as far as a little boy there was some questions he was taken to the hospital twice. He died on the way the second time. But he was diagnosed with the cold, and we find out from the New Mexico medical examiner that he tested positive for influenza. Now, we still don't know the exact cause a death. But he he did have a flu. Okay. I'm not sure if you heard the reporting at the top of the hour, there that Mexico is very upset that we tear gas immigrants at the border in the possibility that, you know, of course, the tear gas blowing into Mexico, Mexico is asking for explanations round this. Of course, they have a new president teargassing at the border immigrants coming across the border women and children at times the the border patrol said yesterday. The latest case was teargassing or trying to just tear gas people throwing stones at border patrol agents. What have you heard? Well, it's, you know, their various stories, and I'm not along that stretch of border. I know there were some independent photographers who captured some of that. So it it's unclear when or why the tear gas started and Mexico is upset about that. But also Mexico's new president there's Manuel Lopez over the other. We'll be traveling to our stretch of border, Texas, southern in southern New Mexico. He'll be here over the weekend Saturday, and he's probably going to talk not just about, you know, concerns about the border Mexico's become this giant waiting room for asylum seekers under the program touted by President Trump the remain in Mexico plan where asylum-seekers will stay in Mexico will now Mexico this administration saying, well, wait a minute. We're not even sure that that we agreed to to all that. So there's a little bit of a question if that's going to happen. How soon it's going to happen or how it will be. You know, what will happen? How many people can can actually remain in Mexico at this point? How close will he be two Senator? Theresa or Las Cruces right nearby. I mean, he'll be visiting what which is, you know, the large city on the other side of that Mexican border, but that but the bread across from Santa Teresa. So he's he's definitely right here in our area. President. Is what I guess. Yes. I will be covering it. I'll be out there. So he'll talk about immigration apply. Talk about some of the issues with the drug violence in Mexico and efforts to fight organized crime. And and a rice in the minimum wage that went into effect along the border. So that'll be important to for workers. And he says that will also help keep more Mexicans Mexican migrants from crossing over which the numbers are already at a historic flow. What is the what is the mood down there? What is the conversation around, you know, like the diners in Las Cruces or the Starbucks in Las Cruces. What what's the feeling in Las Cruces? Rounding talk of the wall. Talk about the efficacy of the wall. Talking about is a good trade. Do we need it in order to get the government back reopened? Well, the wall people who live here will point out that there already is a large barrier where do you want to call it a fence or a wall in place, and there are efforts to expand it or extended a big stretch extended. The we've we've called it a fence for years. Troll. Call it offensive to this past year when it was rebranded a wall, and it's the famous Bollard style or as President Trump called recently still sleds, that's that's been there. And so that was expanded into kind of the desert region, right? West of the sanitary supportive entry, you know, mixed reaction. People are especially wildlife. Conservationists are very concerned about that. Others say, you know, really, we're not seeing huge numbers of people trying to sneak into the country the immigrants coming are these Central American families and unaccompanied children who are not sneaking in there turning themselves into border patrol. So that's a big question about how effective a wall is seeking asylum and trying to show up at ports of entry a break. We'll come back with the border reporter for the Alba Kirke journal Angelica sure guy when we.
Despite protests, UNC officials say Confederate statue must stay
"I'm John Lawrence reporting. The statue was dedicated in nineteen thirteen protesters tore it down in August, five forty three times. Randy AL's joins us with his longer. Look at the forecast. What do you see him, sir? Well, tell you guys kind of a quiet pattern out there. Temperatures have cooled off the weekend. Also, we're tracking a few little snow flurries across Syria not allow showing up right now. But I think later today some flurries, maybe a snow shower. No accumulation expected we could see some accumulating snow on Thursday.
California wildfire evacuees brace for heavy rains
"Another challenge has arrived in northern California. Eight thirty A K G O. Good morning. I'm Brett burkhart after major wildfires on both ends of the state. Flash floods and mudslides could be on the way correspondent John Lawrence reports. I it was the wildfires. Huge number of residents destroyed whole communities wiped out. This is a very very trying of that. Now. Heavy rains are coming to California on the one hand. That's good news. It'll help crews battling the blazes, and it could lessen the chances of more wildfires for the rest of the year. But on the other hand, there's trees in the area of been badly burned their unstable to begin with, and if they become water soaked and heavier there's the potential for them to be blown
