Great news. There's a quick way you can save money, switch to Geico Geico could help you get great coverage at a great price, and it only takes fifteen minutes to see if you could save fifteen percent or more on car insurance go to Geico dot com today and see how much you could save good Saturday morning to you. Dr. Molly as being radio, ESPN apple as presented by progressive insurance, August join a shell Pennzoil performance line. It's college football, Saturday number four, Melman. And yes, fifteen minutes from now because we haven't heard from you and nobody's heard from the Homer here, we'll get into the Baker Mayfield. Night from Thursday, because frankly, I'll tell you, I'll give you my England. This thing as a non NFL fanatic here I'll give you my angle on it, but we'll we'll get into that also again, full day college football, and I know that you look at the scheduling like really two games that give us a ranked team against a ranked team. And one of them just feels like a blow out. So it's not a really good week that's not true because porta what we do on the show is we'll get into some of those other games that are like, wait a minute. Now, pay attention here. This is these kinds of weeks Mel. Is it not where sometimes that you know what hits the fan usually does star. If there's under the radar games that nobody talks about that usually surprise and make the day. So when you have all these games going on and people overlook certain match. So we'll try to hit a lot of that previous years. We tried to focus on the big games, but now we're getting into a lot of other contests that we think could be interesting as the day progresses, which I love and, oh, by the way you've got. A lot of ranked road favorites in this game, but going into places that could prove to be tricky. And I mean, I'm talking a lot of you got a lot of rain teams that are on the road and places where you could feasibly see them getting a test. So we're going to get in to a lot of that. Meanwhile last night us Good Friday night. It was a really Good Friday night football at least on paper it was. And then the finale was a very entertaining game out west in the Coliseum. What do we have last night? Well, we had Penn State Penn State needed to get going in Champaign trailing in the third quarter or two, an Illinois team that has been a disaster under lovey Smith. Penn State got hot in the second half, they got a two hundred yard performance from their newest running back of course, and put up thirty five points in the fourth quarter. They ended up beating Illinois sixty three to twenty four miles Sanders, two hundred yards, rushing and three touchdowns for the Nittany. UCF beat Florida Atlantic by twenty. And again. They kind of had to pull away in the second half. Eventually they did three touchdowns in three hundred six yards passing in a bunch on the ground for the quarterback McKenzie, Milton and the. I think the one, the entertaining game, frankly, was USC in Washington state, and these are the US's not a great program by any stretch right now. This is this is a freshman quarterback that is the age of a high school senior because he left school a year. Early JT Daniels looked better anyways. Gardiner Minhsiu for Washington state had a good game offenses kind of took off defensive struggle, but USC gets three point win at home l. yeah, go to USC first clay Helton how to have this game. This is the game. You cannot lose you. I mean, you've played a couple obviously tough opponents, and and you had some struggles. I think this is a game where you needed to get the win wash. The state hadn't played anybody coming into this game Southern Cal had, I think when you look at USC moving forward, I got a lot of things to fix, but they made some good second half adjustments in this game, blocked the field goal late and they hang onto a win hard fought come from behind, win with a lot of young players on the field that defense. Has some veterans, but had some struggles in the first half, but did get it together when it mattered the most in for Penn State trace McSorley did it again Dr you against Appalachian state, look down at gun barrel, and he made a great throw at a pressure pack time when he needed to do it. And last night he made a throat Johnson in the end zone with guys steps up. He moves around and he's just electric with the ball in his hands, and he's a guy that makes everybody around him better at sets up now that Penn State was able to win that game going away when looked like, hey, this could be an upset routed, Illinois. They destroyed, Illinois dominated the fourth quarter, ran away to an easy victory. Now, this sets up next week Dari one of the games of the year, Ohio State the buckeyes coming to Happy Valley. Now that's the game that you circling say, hey, McSorley against, yeah, Haskins. Now all of a sudden you gotta match up. That's going to be, I think, could be one for the books with with McSorley being a guy Dr Who has that magical ability to take team that took a lot of hits. I had a lot of losses of personnel that is still right now very. Dangerous football team. Let's get into today. Let's get into, I think what should be the best game of the day and it's a late what Stanford and Oregon. You got to top twenty thousand Stanford at seven, Oregon at twenty three and Oregon has played. Nobody Stanford's been tested a little bit Stanford though, has not been able to really establish the run game. Bryce love didn't play last week. He's been banged up. He is going to be back for them against Oregon. It's hard to know much about Oregon other than the fact that they looked like they should be better than they were a year ago. Justin Herbert's got twelve touchdown passes. I look forward to watching him against a good team in Stanford. Statistically, I don't know what you take from an Oregon's second best offense in the league. Stanford second, worst offense. But again, they'd been tested a little bit more than Oregon up front lines of scrimmage. These are the games typically stylistically that Stanford usually wins. But for some reason Mel, I'm leaning a little bit Oregon's way here. What are you looking for when Stanford Oregon go? Well, I'm looking to Justin Herbert from just. NFL standpoint. I mean, this is a game where he needs to play. Well, yeah, he's completed less than fifty percent of his passes in two games, race face better competition, throwing multiple interceptions. Each of those games as well as pass. Stanford defense is pretty good against the pass, and I wanna see this kids should step up of urine come out and you're gonna be a first round pick. This is a game you gotta play. Well k. Jay Kostelic for Stanford had a rough game last week was not as best as against Cal Davis. Couple of picks only fifty six point, seven percentage. He's the play better in this argon pass defense, not great in the secondary. What protects them. Dr is the pass rush. They can get after the quarterback Jalen jokes. The linebackers also Holland's in die. They've eleven sacks on the year combined. This group can get after USO Costello how he plays. Jay. Siegel, Whiteside had a great start to the season. The big receiver for Stanford. He last two games as not been as productive. Last weekend's cow day was only three catches for thirty six yards. Now, two of them were touchdowns, but I think the key is getting him back heavily involved in the offense and getting Bryce loved are going. He's back on the injury list. They wanna get him more involved as a receiver. And if he's going to be a first round pick and I don't have them in the top twenty five big board right now, he's going to become a first round pick. He's going to have to catch the ball more out of the backfield than he has up till this point. Bowling, green and San Jose State. The only two FBI teams organised played to this point. Statistically, again, both tough against the run Oregon's going to have to hold up against Bryce love and that Stanford defense, I tend to ask myself who will be able to have more success through the air. And I think that's why I lean Oregon's way a little bit more although Castillo and our Sega Whiteside have were a great connection against India goes date back in week. One also, autzen stadium is going to be nuts because they feel right now that perhaps their ducks are back. So that's one of the big games of the day to watch for you got another ranked ranked our Email ESPN radio ESPN app. Texas am JIMBO Fisher's first road game as am head coach and it's at Alabama. All right. We know the story, Nick Sabin assistance or. Oh, and twelve against Nick as a head coach. This is about what twenty six and a half twenty seven point line. Nobody expects this game to be close given what we've seen from Bama after a sixty two, seven route of a good offensive. We thought good ole miss football team. I don't know how this games close to be honest with you. I don't know if am is going to have any success offensively whatsoever against bam. Wasn't the one question about Bama how would they hold up defensively, especially in the secondary in the nego and hold? What are the top three receivers as a trio in the conference in the country. To forty eight yards through the air. After the first play of the game, forty eight yards is what ole miss had passing after the first play of the game. How is an gonna have any level of success against Alabama? Well, the only thing I would say with with JIMBO Fisher is familiarity. We talked about with Clemson, obviously with Alabama and Nick Sabin obviously knows what Nick wants to do and those who are very close. I think you look at that maybe gives him a shot, but the emergence story of young stars, you mentioned that secondary at the anti Thomson and that secondary the great safety. You'll get the offense with the emergence of not just Damian Harrison is she harasses averaging almost seven yards a carry Jerry Judy right now fourteen catches okay doing the job. He's he's really stepped forward Irv Smith junior too tight ends having a breakout year. So all these young guys on offense to help out to have really stepped forward. And this this team right now looks on beatable and they're certainly head and shoulders above everybody else in college football right now. Everybody else is kind of looking for that breakout game, Alabama, just steady as they go. They're just dominating everybody and and for Texas a. and m. Doria talked about a tight end Jay stern burger. That's who wants to go to Alabama knows that will save stern burgers has productive in this game against Alabama as he has been up until this point. All right. So an Alabama that game tonight on ESPN. No, that's the three thirty eastern game CBS has that one Stanford and Oregon later tonight as well, your top, your two top twenty five versus top twenty five games. Again, a lot of other big games over the course of this three hour radio extravaganza we will dive into those as well. We'll also look into week three in the NFL is I remind you ESPN. Radio is presented by progressive insurance, small business protection, just got easier with more than thirty coverage options available, progressive. Has you covered more at progressivecommercial dot com? Coming up. We all witnessed it. Heck over ten million people watch the last six minutes of the game alone on television. The place was jumping. Cleveland appears to be on its way because of one guy what we took away from Baker mayfield's regular season debut Dorian Mel ESPN radio ESPN app. Ricky always wanted to play baseball in the majors. He was playing catch before. He could walk. Practically lived in the batting cages. He was behind home plate more than he was home and one day after all that hard work, he found himself walking into a major league baseball stadium. After buying a ticket at the gate, a news bleed seat obscured by poll, but he was in there. No, Ricky never did play in the big leagues, but he did switch his car insurance to gyco proud partner of major league baseball, which saved him a lot. So while in all things were good. Her it is without question to me the second most special night behind the Cavs winning a championship. Brought a new. You gotta hit the reset, and that's the kind of thing we want to have. I'm enjoying meeting a bunch of new little bakers, nine months. Dilly dilly Cleveland fans. Oh, what a great line a bunch of little bakers in nine months. I think we all know what that individual was referring to and know your enemy by green day. I gotta ask, Mike, did you is that a son of your chosing today? This is actually Mike. You see to it, I know the other good. No, this is one of green day's finest without question. Mike, you see? But the reason I thought maybe Mike was because on Thursday night, Baker Mayfield wasn't enemy to Mike as New York Jets. That's why I thought there was a reason behind that song. Okay. Dorian Mel ESPN radio ESPN app after one hundred years of making shaving cream Barbara cells. Finally, making razors that was a no brainer tries to Barbara solve ultra six plus with six ultra thin blades save now at Barbara salt dot com. Melman. As you're watching Baker Mayfield. On Thursday night. Do his thing into what was an inevitable result it? It felt like that from the early going, Mike, a jet fan, you said when Baker went in, you knew it was all over, right? You're up fourteen nothing as a jet fan and you know it's over when Baker walks in to that huddle. For the first time it wasn't even close. You just you just could feel the whole change happened and there was no way the jets we're gonna win that game Mel. What are you thinking as you're watching Baker, it felt scripted villi felt like a movie that was scripted, and it was already played out a y'all Ray knew the outcome. And that's the way it looked on the Mike said it. We've all said as you watch that, it's okay. Tyrod Taylor Toronto, or he's struggling. It's a perfect situation to come into. You look at how the jets got that lead. It wasn't like they were dominant. So to me it with the personnel around the quarterback in Cleveland, and that's credit. John Dorsey, the GM John Dorsey and a friend of mine for years grew up in this area and the land of pleasant living phenomenal linebacker drafted by the Packers and what his job. And think about John Dorsey. Dr he set up to organizations for the future. He needed to set up the Kansas City Chiefs. He traded up to get Patrick. Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes is lighten it up right now. Okay. He's, he's everybody's talking about it. These talk at the NFL right now in Kansas City John Dorsey and made the move to get him. Let go ends up in Cleveland, had to make a picket number one shocked. A lot of people there was talk about Baker is John going to do it. Does that John's got got John, does what John, what's you and listen to any noise Dr he doesn't listen to any talk shows. Radio show opinions of anybody. He doesn't. He clear he didn't listen to any of that stuff. He didn't care what anybody was saying, hey, drafted the guy he wanted and that's the we talk now, is it going to pan out? We don't know. One game doesn't a career make, but I think for John Dorsey realizes great football man who who has now set up the cheeks and hopefully his Browns for what could be. And I said this back in April two draft time, think about where Joe flacco is at age thirty right now. Thirty three. Okay. Coming out the back surgery from couple years ago. Last year, think about Ben Rothlisberger at. Thirty six and the Bengals Alantic Dalton, the Marvin Lewis will see. I think they're gonna have a good year thought that back in August. But the bottom line is I said, they could own this division. I thought Cleveland could own this division of Dorsey. John Dorsey hit the nail district, and that's what I believe they could Aneka be eight this year as well. So that back after the draft that they could be eight and eighteen the personnel was there, the quarterback is there to give them some electric city, which he did. Can he build on it? We'll see what the start looks awful. Good. There's no doubt this is l. by the way, Denzel ward who was a controversial. Fourth, pick for the Brad's in the draft. How about the strip to set up a Browns touchdown that dudes playing well too. So that was controversial. Okay. It was breaks, here's here's what I mean by controversial. There's a lot of the world that would have taken Bradley Chubb instead of him that that was my thought you you the attractiveness of having Myles Garrett on one side and Chubb on the other might have been too much for a lot of people to pass up. And that's what I kept hearing and reading. Go to John Dorsey what the heck of a player. I'm not saying it shouldn't have taken him. I'm just saying that's another one that looked. It's looked really good in the early, go as well. John Dorsey credit up smell. Yeah, you give them credit then if you NFL side Potenza where was the top corner? Lattimore Marcus, Lattimore headed great rookie year. And he was the one that Ohio State team is produced. A lot of co-winners John does had a league is and from John Dorsey philosophy after draft who is, hey, I got a great passion Myles Garrett, you loading up one position. I need a corners of the league where if you got the clothes out who closed that game against the jets, the other night Thursday night, what are you close? Myles Garrett did with a sack of Sam darnold. Okay. Myles Garrett closed that game out and he has that guy and he Valley. I need a shutdown corner in a league where your throat all over the place on the and he went out and got Denzel where it was the question. It was the hands down best corn address. So I think for John Dorsey again, if he nailed this draft and it looks really good so far I said they can own this division Pittsburgh. A ton of problems. Rothlisberger thirty six. Okay. Ravens gotta Thirty-three-year-old quarterback. We don't know if Lamar Jackson could be a successful starting quarterback in the Bengals or the Bengals have won a playoff game with Marvin, Dalton yet. So this is the division, as I said is the Cleveland Browns to have. He'll be great for the legal, be great for everybody in Cleveland. The have eighteen like during the San Mateo Yano years was eight to be reckoned with Mel. This is this is kind of becoming America's team based on the reaction from Thursday night. Now, listen to that because the reaction that you're giving, I think might be one of the ones without directly referencing it, but the generalization Stephen, a Smith is making. As you hear on the Stephen Smith show, I cannot believe what I saw last night and more importantly, I cannot believe this love affair that I'm just sitting there and I'm flummoxed with similar. You people out there make me so damn sick. Oh, y'all get on. Baker Mayfield shows up plays gets a judge deep pets at the start to take the second half off. On a Thursday night and you're like, like the second coming of Joe Montana as a rock, you gotta be kidding me has got to be kidding me. I don't think anybody is suggesting even a at best best that Baker is the second coming, Joe Montana, I'll tell you what I was thinking watching it. First of all, you know me. I'm a Baker guy and what he did for three years Norman, I'll never forget it as a sooner so ever. But what he did for a guy like me and many people who I talked to over the last couple of days, we're college football people. We will hang with the NFL a little bit will follow it as much as we feel like we need to right to be able to carry on a conversation. I'm not an NFL guy. This was the first NFL game that I can remember k Super Bowls in well, not Super Bowls included the falcons patriots when we're the drama. But this was the first regular season game. I can remember that. I couldn't take my eyes off of. I kept telling myself as I was watching this game because I really had to get up really early on Friday one more series, and I'm going to bed. I didn't go to bed until after the game was over and Baker was on SBP. Yeah, and I'll tell you what. Go to that. I've, this was this for the college football fan that felt like a great college football game. That's a good thing for the NFL. Oh, he brings viewers that would never watch Kim Kuyper. My wife never watches football. She watched that game when Baker got it, and I told her, put it on. She watch it and she was ecstatic. Okay. Just to watch somebody give a team and organization as city something they haven't had. So she watched viewership with Baker will be through the roof what you want. Now John Dorsey is gonna. Tell Baker handle yourself professionally because there was some issues coming in. How do you handle success now you're the guy, make sure John Dorsey will be all over this and making sure that everything is done there to make Baker great, and they Baker stays grounded, yes. By the way, he's not just emotion and excitement. He made some phenomenal throats and phenomenal plays. He is massively skilled and I hope nobody doesn't see that you're working late. Well, numbers guys, the bear Chris leakage joining us in thirty minutes from Eugene Oregon, where only five AM when he joins us, and then a little bit later in the nine o'clock hour, Scott Spreitzer out in Vegas gonna join us as well. They each give us three college games with the number and in NFL number. And I know a lot of you all are banging down my door saying, wait a minute. We need to know the records. You're asking us to listen to these guys. What are their records? Let's just say this, they're both gonna bounce back. That's all I can say. That's all I can say fully ca right now in college four and five to zero in the NFL Spreitzer is struggling, no doubt. So you can take his picks for what you want to, but he's made a living out of this. He's two and seven this college season and he's going to own up to it, I think. Oh yeah. But at some point it's gonna turn around for me because it does every single year. So just, yes, those are the records. They're out there. We're not hiding. They don't want to hide from. Let me just say it's about picking games. Sorry, when you tell people and you have to pick your three best bets in college and one in the NFL not ten college games for fifteen three limited the three and figure out of those seven eight games. Right. Who are the three best is an easy. So you know, this is something everybody thinks they can do it. Well, you know, these guys will get it together and crystal Eka ironically, doing better in the NFL he's too and only had two underdogs went outright, which is done a great job in the NFL. He'll get it together and obviously scotch track record of success. Gee, he will so you never know. That's why they call it gambling. Hey, listen, we track these guys are selves to. We don't bring them back year after year. If they're gonna let you down anybody that doesn't do well, doesn't come back. That's kind of the way that it is. All right, let's get into some of the games. They may not be front and center, but they need to be awfully close today in college football. Number two, Georgia at Missouri. This is this would could get away from zuri. But if the Tigers find any defense mailman. But last year drew lock from zuri threw four touchdowns against Georgia. Two of them for sixty three yards. They've got receivers, Emmanuel hall, Jonathan Johnson, Jalen knocks, Missouri's got weapons. The problem is they gave up five hundred seventy two yards. David blog at Purdue last Saturday night. That's a problem. Missouri's gotta find it even. I thought Missouri would have a chance in this game before the season started. But after watching Barrio Adams team play defense, I don't anymore, but it'll be fun to watch offensively what drew locks able to do against a really good defense? And I want to see if Georgia can get Pash rushed are they have not been able to get sacked could after the quarterback you have one sack three games drew lock. We feel any heat. This is the game. You want him to feel that pressure and deal with these got receivers and manual hall, tight ends or really good. He's got depth at that spot. They have an offensive line. Paul Adams a right tack was a future high NFL draft choice. This is an offense that really can't scare the daylights out of the Andrew lock right now is on fire. He's got that completion. Tentage way up. He's more accurate with his throws. He's a confident kid now highly rated NFL prospect. But for Missouri. You're right. David Blau for Purdue, lift them up, and he's more of a runner than a passer. We look like a more of a passer than a runner against us civilized Missouri defense. So I think for drew lock, you almost have to exchange points because you know if they can ever get the Andrea swift who had a great freshman year average, seven, six, a carry his and a five per carry this year. They get the Andrea swift, go, and Georgia's offense is as good as it gets. And I want to see if drew lock in match points and get it done against short met. You would think Dr Georgia will get after the quarterback at some point. Will it start today against drew lock this next game? I would consider a Mel kiper spending. Number fifteen, Oklahoma state versus Texas Tech. Not not not a milk I special now. Mellanby say this here. I am as impressed with Oklahoma state from a from from a perspective of what I expected from them before the season to what we've seen now as I am anybody in the country LSU included. I did not see that coming last week that was a beatdown of Boise state and still wanna. Now they get Texas Tech in still water. They sacked Boise, state seven times senior quarterback Tyler Taylor Cornelius for Oklahoma state didn't throw a pick and Justice loose. Got a Justice hill rather got loose running the football. They appear to be a legitimate and I did not expect that props to Oklahoma state now can they slow Texas Tech? Because they found a freshman quarterback that they seem to like Alan Bowman putting up a lot of big numbers as you would expect for cliff Kingsbury yowling Bowman's at seventy point. Seven percent completion percents, eight touchdowns and zero picks. He's been really good so far. You mentioned Oklahoma state defense story. They're allowed to point one yards per carry. That's it. And I think when you look at the running game of Justice hill, that's what you want in this game. You want to at least limit possessions for the opposition Oklahoma state can run the ball with hill. He's averaging almost six yards a carry. The Texas Tech red raiders are eighty six in per carry. Average allowed vocal homes. They can control the clock a little bit. Okay. And limit possessions that gives them the edge in this football game. Eighteen Wisconsin at Iowa. This one Mellon, this feels more like a Melkite per special right. You like. So Wisconsin, we what happened last week against BYU. Could they overlook BYU how did that team get pushed around upfront by BYU? None of I don't think anybody saw that coming now. Here's the question right if that happened against BYU. What happens tonight? Night game Kinnock stadium in Iowa with the Hawkeyes three and Ellen feeling really good about them selves as they should be because they have a defense that stops the run and gets after the quarterback, Kim, Jonathan Taylor, get loose against Iowa or does and does Wisconsin, which seemed impossible to believe at the beginning of the season lose back to back games. This is not going to be easy for the badgers tonight by any stretch of the imagination. Well, everything's coming a little harder for Wisconsin this year Dr because the offensive line which you thought would be or Ghibli the best in college football has not played to the level of their talent that offensive line has struggled, and it's impacted. Corner brook the quarterback. So in a couple of picks, they don't have the big time threats tight end receiver that they had now sudden stack that box and you'll limit what Jonathan Taylor can do. I was defense third country allow one point five yards per carry. So this is a strength against strength, Wisconsin wants to do as ram John Taylor down your throat when I will stop the run, which they do. We know what a great Kirk farance is. He does more with less than any coach in college. Football always has. Iowa does have some talent though the tight end, Noah fan, he's the guy can come up big in this game because he will be usually when Wisconsin place are they have a tight end. It can play a high level in this game. I was Noah fan will be the best tight end on the field. He's a talent I think Natan Nathan Stanley, a quarterback who's got ability, but it's been inconsistent. This year looked Noah fan. He should have no less than six catches in this game. Number twenty, four in Michigan state at Indiana rule sport. He didn't play last week after they lost Arizona state. They've had two weeks to get ready for Indiana, hoosiers three and they beat FIU, Virginia ball state. Take that for what you want, Indiana, you think throw the ball all over the place. How do you like Stevie, Scott, freshman, tailback. He's played well for Indiana so far. Could be tough sledding though. Again, sporty, I kinda like Michigan state and their ability on defense to slow him. I think because giving Mark dantonio two weeks to prepare and to address the issues on his offense, I think is beneficial to Michigan state. Yeah. And are you mentioned Stevie Scott, the freshman running back. He got off to a slow start against Florida international, but he's really picked it up of late and Peyton Ramsey the young quarterback, completing seventy percent of his passes this year. They'd always sacked him. The opposition has sacked him just once in seventy six pass attempts. So I look at this game and say for Michigan, state find a way to get the running game going. Brian, Lou work your quarterback. They have not been able to run the ball on a consistent basis so far this year, right. So those are some of the games little bit more probably under the radar than the two games that give us a ranked team against a ranked team. But again, we're talking, you're talking road, ranked teams hitting the road Georgia hitting the road against Missouri, Michigan state hitting the road to face Indiana, Wisconsin hitting the road to face Iowa, that's and then the Oklahoma's again, Oklahoma state. I mean, did you see this? Did do you? I look at a team and you mentioned the defense and how difficult it is for teams to run on them. And the way they got after Boise state who I thought, honest to goodness, Mel, I thought Boise would go into still water and win so that that to me was as impressive and surprising showing last week is there wasn't a country for me. That was a that was a statement for Oklahoma state and props to them in my Gundy. Yeah, there two touchdowns favourite in this football game, but there's gonna be a surprise or two today. They're always Arthur, and I think when you go into some hostile environments, it can be tricky for some of these teams to deal with. And I think when you look at it, whereas TCU going to be coming off that game against Ohio State, they play at Texas. We're gonna get into that one. Yeah, that's what I think. That's one from an intrigue standpoint, how does Gary Patterson get this team back to play in a game against Tom permit, hey, the right now. Texas has got to feel pretty confident, and this is a team that may be turning a corner just a bit from what we saw earlier in the year when they add their sheriff struggles. Absolutely. We'll get into that one teach you and Texas good showing last week against USC, and she said, make sure you're tune in college football today. Clemson battles. Georgia Tech presented by Dr. Pepper coverage begins at two thirty eastern on ESPN radio ESPN, radio dot com. And the ESPN app week three of the NFL is here Melham afraid week. Three has already reached its peak. We only go down from here. No, maybe not. There's there's a lot to pay attention to on Sunday and Monday around the NFL diamond of that straight ahead Dory, male, ESPN, radio, and the ESPN app. Carson Wentz clear this week to return. Motions going on. But once the game starts, it's just football. Listen to hold. His first start. There's going to be emotions, regardless goal is to win, and we gotta get phone coming in for it's enough to play at home in our loved planet home. It'd be good feeling. It'd be good, fair city team. Obviously just looking forward Sunday. Me Rockin on Sunday. So obviously the goal is to go on and all this week. Carson Wentz indeed back for the eagles as they host Indianapolis in week three of the NFL. What do they need from Carson Wentz quarterback positions. Obviously a concern anywhere in the NFL frankly. I mean, most teams are. Half the teams in the league, feel great about that position. I would guess, but it Carson Wentz. We saw what he was able to do is on his way to the MVP before he got her last year here they are one on one. That's certainly not one of the top issues for Philadelphia. This is a team that's going to have a challenge getting back to the Super Bowl, what do they need from him against Indianapolis, either. Obviously, the receiving core is not what it was. The running games got some injuries. So there's some pieces around the quarterback. That's you know, we'll be there later on aren't right now, Dr., but I think for caution Wentz the main thing is and they've touched on it. You can't be reckless and Carson Wentz head that injury. North Dakota state is final year which came back from the play late in the season that final game, the championship, and then obviously the senior bowl. And then this injury where you're just you can't do that. This is not like say, he plays the one AA level. You'll let alone at the one you'll have. And then of course, the NFL you're talking about RG three would happen to him, not protecting his body after that great start to his NFL career. So will they kind of live and learn? Will they realize you can't be doing diving and for for yardage. When extra yard or two matter, but is it in the long run? The best thing to do. No, it's not. So I think they can get that through Carson Wentz save your body, protect your body. We need you out there and don't battle forever yard. Don't be diving around the beep, say very protective of that. The NFL officials are gonna try to do that, but you also have to take it upon yourself to help them out in that regard. And I'll give the NFL a lot of credit Dory. We had complained after week one about the penalties week to down significantly forty seven fewer penalties across the board at three less per game. They've done a great job. Let the guys play like they didn't Super Bowl, let them play. They did last week. Hopefully this continues and for Carson Wentz just play. A song plays a smart game, but I'm a smart game in terms of just making sure you don't expose your frame to these kinda hits that he has been taking Doreen and ESPN radio by the way the bear, Chris fully gonna come up with us top of the hour here less than fifteen minutes from now, his three college games and the NFL game. He's to go with his. NFL pick so far this season. How about the Steelers, this Steelers team that you loved to hate. You could probably drop the d. off the word love, but this is a team that is trying to figure life out right now here they are a one and one. And they go to Tampa Bay to try to slow down Ryan Fitzpatrick, which is a sentence. I never in my life that I would say, but here's fits magic with his back toback four hundred yard performances. It's the last game. He's the starter unless it's not because James Winston comes back from his suspension. So now it's interesting because Sean Jackson saying Fitzpatrick's got to be the guy even when James is back, which is a huge boon. I would think if you're fits, I don't know if the Sean speaking out of school he probably is. And that's obviously dirt cutter decision. But there's Pittsburgh in Antonio Brown, publicly complaining about the losing being late to work getting reprimanded for that. There's a lot of issues going on with Pittsburgh right now that signify the downfall of a franchise if they are not quickly resolved, what do you make of everything going on in that locker room? It's not the sealer way, and it's happened. This isn't new. This has been going on now for a period of time Dari where this drama. And all these individuals and the team was always things the Steelers and it was everything we remember about the Steelers those years with the Rooney family, we're just all about the team and now it's about individuals that are kind of like fractions a little bit. So I, this isn't the first time and they haven't been able to put this behind them. They cannot move on from this for some reason I talked about prior years about, okay, we have got to have the right nucleus a talent here. But when you have star power door, you got control the star power and contain it. They haven't been able to, and it's a lady on bell thing had Tonio Brown fence at his issues during his career. But at the end of the day, it's not the Steelers, this isn't what we always grew up with the Steelers doing an operating this way. So they have been a huge, huge disappoint. They're sitting there luckily to got the tie could have the winds right now if you talk about a pivotal game earlier, one point favorite who would have thought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers be red hot right now to Pittsburgh Steelers or anything, but that and Pittsburgh is still favored on the road at Tampa Bay on Monday night. Booger McFarland stadium where of course he'll be down on a familiar field for ESPN's Monday night football, Darren Woodson by the way, longtime, of course, NFL player and he SPN NFL analysts was on NFL live giving his issue with Antonio Brown. The one to swinging? Well, we just miss wing in a drive. That's not where we were going with with. Do we have. I'm gonna say no. I'm going to say, well, we'll we'll move beyond that. You know what game. I'm looking forward to watching with coach, you know, who's the guy that had all the attention as a starting quarterback before Baker grabbed it on Thursday. Maybe this guy gets it back on Sunday, the it's the record center. Ten touchdown passes in his first two games for in the first two games of the season for Patrick Mahomes. I like to consider Kansas City an honorary big twelve member with the way they play offense and defense. Frankly, that's a concern. They're giving up a ton of yards. And now Jimmy g. in San Francisco, walk it aero had stayed in the place is going to be going nuts. What does Mahomes have in store for the forty Niners? It'll be fun to watch. Well, young front, seven, oh defense, would they have in store four Mahomes getting to slow him down any. And I think that's the challenge of the forty Niners going on the road. They had a tough win early on against Minnesota on the road which IMI in that game, he struggled mightily under fifty percent with three picks. So again, the formula opponent here, I think Jimmy Garoppolo has to start producing against this type of, oh, and. I think he he will play better in this game that he did against the Minnesota Vikings in game. One. I think you're talking about matchup star. This is a phenomenal week for the NFL from from what we had Thursday night with Baker coming in the what will finish up with Pittsburgh Tampa Bay to the chargers and the Rams at all the way through had a great game here in Baltimore, Denver Broncos coming undefeated against the Baltimore Ravens or kinda reeling right now, what happened against Cincinnati that Thursday gives them a little more time to prepare. And then again, your watch one by the way you go, are you? I'm not going to be there. I'll be watching the New Orleans Saints. Our team I picked for the Super Bowl, the festively they're talking about what's the issue. They gotta get it together. This is a game against Atlanta who's a beat up football team. No team in the NFL was had more injury issues than the Atlanta Falcons. Yes, they are not the team. They thought they would be because of injury New Orleans. This is game. If you're going to be a Super Bowl contender, that's that's not going to say if they lose it, they're out of it, but you want to start seeing them play like that. And maybe they can build on last week when it kind of stole one against the Cleveland Browns could have very. Easily been a loss. The Tennessee titans are a beat up team. They get Taylor Lewan back. Jack conklin still hasn't come back from the injury, Marcus mariota. Yeah, we'll see if he's able to play. Yeah, that was a game last week that they stole from the Houston. Texans Houston, Texas had that game, let after coming back, let it slip away and then comes up short when you make a play in the middle of field as darnold did at the end of the first half quarterbacks like Donald and Watson are young, they're gonna make mistakes and both did at key moments last week for darnold and certainly last week for Shawn, Watson, I got to see the chargers, get a win at the Rams, not going to be easy. I mean, the Rams are the real deal. You talk about the saints as your Super Bowl team. They seem to be a bit of a mess right now. Not what we expect it. You and I both had him in the Super Bowl and the chargers winning the Super Bowl. Little a little bit of a gauge as to where they compare in their own city as they visit the two zero Rams Jacksonville and that phenomenal defense can go to three and elegance Tennessee. That's certainly an interesting when the giants in Houston, Dr is almost an elimination game. Giants in Houston that by the way you mentioned the falcons injuries again, no devante Freeman, their defensive ends tack McKinley, Derrick, Shelby out as well against the saints. That's a problem. That's definitely a problem in what is a really good division, you know, with Carolina in there, they, they host to Cincinnati here. That'll be an interesting game here. And there, of course, on Monday night could get to three and a half, they could beat what appears to be discombobulated Steelers team, not real in Dr that looks like a shell of what they were as a Seattle Seahawks, but a lot of people saw that one come in, isn't he. All right. The bear. We'll call them the bounceback bear his three college games in NFL pick straight ahead. It's ESPN radio and the ESPN app. Now now Yep, you guessed it. I'm a speed bump, so I've got one job. I slow you down. So imagine how I feel about Geico who does way more like not only could they save you money on car insurance, but they've been around for over seventy five years, giving people fast and friendly claim service. Frye free people under armor and more all at great prices. You'll love the fashion, you desire the value you deserve. That's modern southern style experience today in store or at belt dot com. No Doreen, no guy, and Mel kiper junior on ESPN radio and ESPN radio dot com. Komo. Good morning. Or Email, ESPN, radio, ESPN app. We got football. We got by. Ranked ranked game. We've got a bunch of other games to get to. We call them under the radar, but they've frankly shouldn't be under any radar. They're that good Mel. We have not had. The first four weeks of college, but but we really haven't had one of those. Oh my goodness. This happened. Oh, I can't believe that avid all out. Oh, you know, we almost had it last week with army and Oklahoma. We almost had our first real stunner. I don't consider LSU over Miami or Auburn, like a real stunner. We almost had a real stunner. I think we've got potential today. I think we've got a lot of potential to really shake up the polls even in the top ten or fifteen spots in the polls which we just frankly haven't had in the first month. I think we could have drama. What are you? You were fired up today. You are barking out the signals like your one hundred thousand seat stadium, and nobody can hear none of your teammates. Hear you, man. You are being loud today. Boy, you're bringing it. Why am I years a ringing but terms of today, I think you're tonight the both games. Third, Happy Valley got south bend, so I got great venues, great atmospheres, but I think the under the radar games today are not under the radar. There's some some really big wins. Some, I think some intriguing ones as well. And I look at at Clemson and Syracuse, and I think you'll yet. Okay. Go ahead. I'm just going to say that's just the game, this two touch for second this. But I just think when you look at making. Changes and things coaches do, and you've got a team that beat the other one last year as a major upset on a Friday night with Syracuse beating Clemson and all that. And it's a high noon kickoff at Clemson down there where they're thinking final four and there are big favourite in revenge. I just think when you make changes and you do something dramatic like that, which I thought may happen, but you'd think it would happen then then you have this transfer rule and all that upheaval and kind of disruption. I think we're going to see some this today with some of these teams as much of a factor that disruption could create. And there's a whole lot of teams that are just now playing their fourth game. So while we've seen guys like Jalen mcklusky, Oklahoma stay or Jonathan Nance Arkansas, Kelly Bryant, Clemson after four games, say I'm gonna leave. We're going to see some more names come out. Here's some more names come out this week after their teams play their fourth game as we sit here in week number five. All right. Happy Valley. At night in a wide out. It's going to be incredible viewing as Ohio State visits, Penn State, seven thirty eastern on ABC. It's an enormous home field advantage for the Nittany. Lions, Kirk herbstreet on golick and wingo talking about the best atmosphere. For a long time at the white out at night is is gonna seen his. There is an is intimidating ever seen for an opposing offense, especially on third down as as you'll see. I mean, the SEC has great habits fears. Clearly death valley, dental LSU at night, the swamp Alabama. But if Penn State's ranked in the top ten and they take on top ten opponent and it's a white out, it's like the perfect storm. It is an incredible scene, but and I'm going to ask you this real quick too, because it it. It's not, you know, you don't have those hundred thousand trying to play defense against Wayne Haskins. You've got eleven guys for Penn State trying to play defense against Wayne Haskins and head coach of the Nittany lions. James Franklin talks about the difficulty in that they are so skilled as a wide receiver runabout position that this guy's able to distribute the ball to all their playmakers all over the field. So. It's a, it's a different style. I wouldn't necessarily say they're really different in in what they're doing. I guess what I'm saying is they're just playing to the strengths of their personnel and their personnel is they got a true throw or now he's special. I mean, he distributes the ball. He's got some guys in k. j. hill and Paris Campbell. When you watched Wayne Haskins, what do you like the most Melman? Well, the the poise and I think in the confidences a kid. It was the vote with one point was gonna go to Maryland. Okay. So you know twain Haskins very well here in this area just so I think just the poise, the composure. I the way stands in the pocket, the way he surveys the field and real, you seen, I think the emergence this year Paris Campbell in Paris Campbell. Oh, it was kind of underwhelming, but he had awesome talent and great speed this year he's putting on a show, and I think the fact that they have the running game, they hit the lion, everything's going. He's got a clean pocket. That's the ten can schrief Millard disrupt asking getting off line a bit because he's hasn't really felt a lot. The pressure's been sacked three times all year Haskins and I will say this story about James Franklin, Penn State, no team that has a high ranking sustain more losses than Penn State. And now they haven't played anybody. They were challenged by upstate fortunate to win that game challenged by Illinois, even for some of that game till the fourth quarter when they ran away. Okay. Now you go. Hi. Oh, state Penn State law seventy top eight tacklers on defense seventy top eight tackled story in addition to saquon Barkley in addition to they Sean Hamilton wide receiver, Mike sickie tight in you can't take top rusher top run of receiver. Okay, seventy your top tacklers off most teams and still be way way up there now trace McSorley is a great quarterback. He's kind of carrying this team right now. He's not completing a high percentages passes. He's at fifty three fifty, four percent right now by staying away from crucial mistakes is getting the job done. He's made clutch, throws in those games against app state and Illinois. But king he McSorley carry this team on his shoulders. Without all that personnel from last year to victory over a much more talented, I believe, Ohio State Buckeye squad. Yes, this there is no question. There's still a discrepancy in talent. You wonder how much playing this thing at Happy Valley in front of that hundred thousand plus faithful wearing all white, which will be loud from two hours before the game until an hour afterwards. If it goes their way that's going to be a big time factor there. We'll see mile Sanders again, the junior tailback for Penn State. What does he do against an Ohio State defense? That is pretty good minus some big plays they've given up but difficult against the run. No, Nick Bosa though for Ohio State. So how does that impact them? So that's all stuff. We'll dive into that a little bit more to as we move along. As we remind you, Dory, and Mel presented by progressive insurance guest today, join us via the shell Pennzoil performance line. How about Stanford and Notre Dame? A couple of more undefeated teams both at foreign. Oh, Notre Dame hit a different offensive gear. Last week with Ian book, a sophomore at quarterback in place of Brandon wimbush threw for three hundred. Five and two touchdowns no interceptions. He found ten different receivers. The run game thrive to any and books not win Bush with his legs, but he can even make some plays with his legs. They ran for six yards a carry simply put Notre Dame look like a completely different team. When he in book was the quarterback and he'll be the quarterback moving forward, it seems especially certainly tonight against Stanford. Yeah, you gotta be able to throw the football. You can't continue to win gains with being one dimensional and avenue quarterback. That's just not accurate enough and not giving you enough of a past game option and in book had come in and we were. I was not told you this couple weeks ago. I was shocked at teams were buddy, particularly Vanderbilt budding on play action. Anytime he book came in the game when they were deep in the red zone, he was throwing the football. There was a run, so biting wanna play action. And that's what the Vanderbilt linebackers didn't allow them to throw over the top made no sense to me. But now in books that guy. And as I say, this isn't Joe Montana. Got, he's been made out to be the savior for Notre Dame, and I think you're asking a lot. You're putting a lot of pressure on in book. It didn't. Show up last week against the Wake Forest team that was outmanned against Notre Dame. Stanford will not be outmanned. We'll Stanford have a letdown after beating Oregon. I kind of a down, but if they put so much emotion into that comeback Dari for a pack, twelve opponent like Oregon when it looked like that game was done and they were gonna lose and come back like they did how much do they leave on that field last week at autzen stadium. I think we'll determine a lot about what happens tonight. It's we're talking about a Bryce love to, yes, this was a Heisman Trophy favourite coming and he's averaging, what was it? Four point, three yards a carry. He was over eight yards a carry last year. He's been battling health issues. He, you know, he missed a game as well. Here we are through four games of Stanford. He's played three and he's got two hundred fifty four yards on the ground all season long. It's a different guy like Stanford. I, I like AJ Castillo I know that David Shaw is quarterback k. Jacobs now I can't believe though that he would feel really good about a nice run through the Pac twelve being. National play college football, playoff contender. If Bryce love can't start getting loose and Bryce love Kantor getting loose and it's not gonna be necessarily easy against Notre Dame tonight on the road. No, he's got. He. We've got a see Bryce love in the six to seven yards a carry one eighty to two hundred yards a game, especially as the competition steps up like it wilt and it was good competition last week. I understand that and they won without him being a big major factor. But this is tonight. You gotta have him. Yeah, you kinda k j cost. Hello. When you hear David Shaw and you hear the comments, I mentioned the book with Joe Montana's an exaggeration, but saying that's the expectation. The books come coming here now build off of that and we're gonna go and play in the final four and wouldn't win a national title that's not going to happen. But I think when you look at cage Kostelic when you hear the comments and the evaluation of Costello from David Shaw, you hear glowing commentary. Okay, like this is a great quarterback of her others, some out some analysis of the quarterback, some some observers say, hey, yeah, this kid could be great talking about him like, he's Andrew luck. I don't see that yet Dory myself, but some have put him in that lofty expectation group. I just look at this game nights. Okay. If you have a corner like Notre Dame does. Enjoy and love who's a top notch corner. He has nine pass breakups. He's plays the ball very well. Put him on jayjay or Sega, Whiteside lockdown our say, the whites who does he go to is gonna have to go to Kate and Smith or great tight end. And hopefully Bryce love will emerge and help out k. j. Kostelic because I don't think our Sega Whiteside against love necessarily the impact he is. And some of these other football games this year, there's another gay male. We'll dive into that could be interesting out west featuring a team that you have in the playoff against a team that nobody saw the early season start that it's had coming from. We'll get into that and also a dive a little bit more into these games than we start hitting some of those other games that everybody's gotta pay attention to is we remind you after one hundred years or making shaving cream Barbara cells. Melman as you're watching Baker Mayfield on Thursday night, do his thing into what was an inevitable result. It felt like that from the early going, Mike. The jet fan. You said when Baker went in, you knew it was all over, right? You're up fourteen nothing as a jet fan and you know it's over when Baker walks in to that huddle. For the first time it wasn't even close. You just you just feel the whole change happened and there was no way the jets we're gonna win that game Mel. What are you thinking as you're watching Baker, it felt scripted Vilis felt like a movie that was scripted and and it was already played out a y'all Ray knew the outcome. And that's the way it looked in the Mike said it. We've all set as you watch that. It's okay. Tyrod Taylor Toronto where he's struggling. It's a perfect situation to come into. You look at how the jets got that lead. It wasn't like they were dominant. So to me it with the personnel around the quarterback in Cleveland, and that's credit. John Dorsey the GM John dourson a friend of mine for years grew up in this area and the land, the pleasant living, phenomenal linebacker drafted by the Packers and what his job he's and think about John Dorsey. Dr he set up to organizations for the future. He needed to set up the Kansas City Chiefs. He traded up to get Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes is lightning. Right now. Okay, he's, he's everybody's talking about it. He's a talk at the NFL right now in Kansas City. John Dorsey made the move to get him. Let go ends up in Cleveland had to make a picket number one shocked. A lot of people there was talk about Baker is gonna do it does that John got, got John. Does what John? What's you listen to any noise Dr here's to any talk shows, radio show opinions of anybody. He doesn't. He clear he didn't listen any of that stuff. He didn't care what anybody was saying. He drafted the guy he wanted and that's the we talk now, is it going to pan out? We don't know. One game doesn't a career make, but I think for John Dorsey realizes great football man who who has now set up the chiefs and hopefully his Browns for what could be. And I said this back in April tardy draft time, think about where Joe flacco is at age thirty right now. Thirty three. Okay. Coming off the back surgery from couple of years ago. Last year, think about Ben Roethlisberger aged thirty six and the Bengals Alantic Dalton, Marvin Lewis. We'll see. I think they're gonna have Goodyear thought that back in August. But the bottom line is I said, they could own this division. I thought Cleveland could. Own this division of Dorsey. John Dorsey hit the nail district, and that's what I believe they could Aneka be eight this year as well. So that back after the draft that they could be eight and eighteen the personnel, was there, the quarterback is there to give them some electric city, which he did. Can he build on it? We'll see what the start looks awful. Good. Yeah, there's no doubt this is l. by the way, Denzel ward who was a controversial. Fourth, pick for the Brad's in the draft. How about the strip to set up a Browns touchdown, the that dudes playing well too. So that was controversial. It was break. So. Here's, here's what I mean by controversial. There's a lot of the world that would have taken Bradley Chubb instead of him that that was my thought you the attractiveness of having Myles Garrett on one side and shove on the other might have been too much for a lot of people to pass up. And that's what I kept hearing and reading. Go go to John Dorsey what the heck of a player. I'm not saying it shouldn't have taken him. I'm just saying that's another one that looked. It's looked really good in the early, go as well. Give John Dorsey, credit smell. You give him credit. Then again, if it was like, but then so where was the top corner? Lattimore Marcus Lattimore had a great rookie gear. And he was on that Ohio State team which produced a lot of corners. John does had a league is and from John Dorsey philosophy after draft who is, hey, I got a great passion Myles Garrett at you'll loading up one position. I need a corner. This is the league where if you got the close out who closed that game against the jets, the other night, Thursday night will close. Myles Garrett did with a sack of Sam darnold. Okay. Myles Garrett closed that game out and he has that guy and he Valley. I need a shutdown corner in a league where your throat all over the place on the any went out and got Denzel where it was the question. It was like hands down best corn and address. So I think for John Dorsey again, if he nailed this draft and it looks really good so far I said they can own this division Pittsburgh. Got a ton of problems. Rothlisberger thirty six, ravens gotta Thirty-three-year-old quarterback. We don't know if Lamar Jackson could be a successful starting quarterback in the Bengals or the Bengals have won a playoff game with Marvin, Dalton yet. So this is the division, as I said is the Cleveland Browns have he'll be great for the legal, be great for everybody in Cleveland. The have eighteen like during the San Mateo Yano years was eight to be reckoned with Mel. This is this is kind of becoming America's team based on the reaction from Thursday night. Now, listen to that because the reaction that you're giving, I think might be one of the ones without directly referencing it, but the generalization, Stephen, a Smith is making. As you hear on these Stephen, a Smith show. I cannot believe what I saw last night and more importantly, I cannot believe this love affair that up to sit in. I'm flummoxed with similar. You people out there make me so damn sick. Oh, y'all get on. Baker Mayfield shows up plays a gets a judge deep pits at the start that take the second half off. On a Thursday night and you're like, like the second coming of Joe Montana as a rock. You gotta be kidding me. You have got to be kidding me. I don't think anybody is suggested today at this fest that Baker is the second coming, Joe Montana. I tell you what I was thinking watching it. First of all, you know me. I'm a Baker guy and what he did for three years Norman, I'll never forget it as a sooner so ever. But what he did for a guy like me and many people who I talked to over the last couple of days, we're college football people. We will hang with the NFL a little bit. We'll follow it as much as we feel like we need to right to be able to carry on a conversation. The go-to. How do you handle success now you're the guy, make sure John Dorsey will be all over this and making sure that everything is done there to make Baker great and makes your Baker stays grounded. Yes. By the way, he's not just emotion and excitement. He made some phenomenal throats and phenomenal plays. He is massively skilled and I hope nobody doesn't see that you're working late when you get into Lert on your smartphone, your blink motion, activated security camera picked up something suspicious at home. You mentioned early off the top of the show on that Friday night when Clemson went up and got beat in the carrier dome by Syracuse, what happened in that game? Kelly, Bryant got hurt. Clemson doesn't have Kelly Bryant now anyway, because he's leaving the program. This is Trevor Lawrence's team. But. They, here's the difference. I don't think they overlook Syracuse now. Syracuse roles in foreign. Oh, Eric, Dungy. Good. Fun to watch dangerous dynamic quarterback for the orange. I know it seems weird to say that, but he is. I can't see like I don't see Syracuse sticking around into the fourth quarter. I'm probably underestimating them or overestimating Clemson. But at some point you've got to think if you're this Clemson defense that that gets all this acclaimed you're just going to find a way to keep going from meeting you at least making the big plays the Dungy made a year ago and you're not going to run on Clemson Clemson last two point three yards per carry. They got Dexter Lawrence in the middle. They got Farrell coming from the outside. They got Christian Wilkins and his ability as well as veteran defensive lineman. You're not running against this team. You gotta be able to throw the football done. She can. I mean, he's completing sixty three seven and he's got nine touchdowns with one pick. But you look at this game, you say, okay, where's Clemson? If they're going to be a final four team is done. She can have success. Kellyn mon- threw the ball actively against Clemson Dungy throws a better than Kellen Menendez I wanna see for Clemson. My valuation in this game is going to be their secondary. Well, you get the pass rush, they do. You got cover guys on the back end. Should be able to have some success and pick off some. They haven't done anything back there. They are struggling in the secondary, their one hundred eighth and opponent passer rating, and there's no excuse for the sixteenth sacks zero interceptions. How can that happen? Incredible man. You wouldn't believe, but it's true. So I wanna see, Dungy struggle Clinton's. A final four team Dungy should have issues thrown a football them up and puts up big passing numbers that does not bode well moving forward for Clemson because at their secondary can't cover and you got a freshman quarterback in there and hundred Lawrence. I don't see you as a final four team, and I think evidence of whether the aren't we're gonna come in this game at high noon today. But you did say, now you said Clemson does not give up yards on the ground. Syracuse wants to run the ball. It's a top ten, rushing team mo- Neil Dante Strickland and company. Offense of lining if they can't run, they got no shot. Nut Dungy leads them in rushing Tari, Eric. I know he's rushing. Yeah, but that's not going to happen to that. You're not running a ball, Clemson, forget about the problem for Syracuse happened it. I want to say what I wanna see is Clemson dominate. They got revenge on their minds, and I want to see them pick off some passes of Dungy if they can't do that in this game, then I'd say looking forward to where they want to be at the end of the year. Well, guess what? There's some disappointed, Clemson Tigers fans. I make a lot of evidence of whether they are aren't, as I said, come in this football game. All right. That game noon. Eastern ABC. Texas said, Kansas state what a huge win for Texas last week. Home against TCU seems like eight weeks ago, not for this team lost to Maryland. It was a really good win, but let's not overlook the fact that TCU turn it over four times gave Texas all kinds of opportunities. They still struggled to run the ball. This game's not going to be an obstacle for Texas, at least it shouldn't unless their peak and ahead a little bit to the Red River rivalry game next week against Oklahoma. Yeah. And will they be an they have a lot of momentum going right now? Texas does. And I look at the ability of their receivers, Johnson, and Humphrey. They got these guys going, particularly Johnson has really stepped up. He's really coming on about the last couple of games he's been uncovered will Illinois to quarterback. He's been sex, seven times, but Kansas state, they kick it after the quarterback. So he should have a clean pocket. It's tough gritty, quarterback. He's done a pretty good job, and I think those receivers have allowed that to happen. So I think you want to see the development of Johnson and Humphrey that continues college. Football defenses cannot match up against two receivers, have the physical and athletic capability, those two kids. So they Texas has promising seizing moving forward as long as they stay focused. And I said, don't peek ahead to the game next week. Number twenty two versus for Jinya tech. You know, after watching week one, Virginia Tech goes in Tallahassee and lays it on Florida state. You're thinking all look out for Justin Puentes hokies and then they go last week, lose their starting quarterback to a broken leg. Josh Jackson lose to an own three Old Dominion team in what was a real head scratcher. Now they go to Duke seven eastern ESPN two, I think last week for Virginia, Texas, which one of the worst stretches of days I can remember for football team and deuce legit. I mean, this may be probably is David cut clips best Duke team even without starting quarterback. Daniel Jones Quinton Harris's taken over. He's been good, hasn't thrown an interception. He's a junior. This is be. This is a Duke football team. That's kind of quietly sneaking into legitimate ACC contention. I think mill tooks. I think the thing on oppresses me about David cut cliff is obviously, you know, his offensive God with quarterbacks. Unfortunately, they have the injuries there, but their defense shows up every week Dr in it. It's been the case for two time and time again, and it's been underrated part of this Duke blue devil team is that you would not think that could happen that you've been able to recruit those types of athletes with Joe Giles Harris and Humphries. They lead defense either with Mark Gilbert hurt. Mark Gilbert is a great corner. He's out for the year. So even with that injury, they still able to play at a high level. But both these teams from an injury standpoint Ari have really been affected the last few weeks. So this is a game where somebody's going to survive. And that's what it's going to be dukes right now. Slight favorite of this football game four, four and a half its survival because they're not at one hundred percent. Neither one of these football teams. Number twenty three, Mississippi State versus Florida. Six eastern ESPN. What's the big story line in this game? Dan, Mullins return to stark will after nine years as head coach can. I say one thing here real quick. Nine years in stark will eight bowl games a number one ranking, and he is going to get booed and booed loudly when he takes the field as the head coach at the university of Florida. And I am going to ask this question on national radio right now, how if you are a Mississippi State bulldog fan, can you have any right to feel good booing Dan Mullen. Where is your program without Dan Mullen where you can't boo the man now you will, but nine years I don't even I bet you. He turned down close to ten job opportunities to stay in starkville for nine years. You can't booed and Mullen, but you will Mel, they will fancier. They're what they're gonna do. But bottom line. Is you think about this Mississippi State in bounce back mode and it was a horrible performance last week, horrible performance. He'd get more credit to Mississippi State Kentucky, Mississippi state's defense comes in Dari to that game last week with Jeffrey Simmons and Montas wet up front and the can't run the ball against. But sippy state, right. Well, Kentucky ran for almost two hundred thirty yards and four touchdowns. And on the other side, you think about where they were running the ball with Highland hill raved about ARIS Williams, the backup. They were held to thirty six yards. Twelve tarries okay, Florida's defense against the run, not very good. Okay. You think about Florida's running rushing attack. They got three guys. Ravaging were six yards a carry. They better be better Mississippi State Steph as urban, happy soft in the belly like they were an overall last week. So I would expect their defensive front led by Simmons and sweat the being a more of a dominant mode. And I would expect hill to really be able to run the ball more effectively did last week against this. I suspect Florida defense. I expect Mississippi State the play this game, like it is one of the biggest games of the. Because they were not very good at all. They were bad last week. They gotta show some pride up front, not a both sides. I mean, you're right, Kentucky, random over and then this team Mississippi State average going into last week's game at Lexington, three hundred eleven yards, rushing per game. They had fifty six on twenty eight carries like show some pride here. I mean, did Kentucky show the blueprint of Florida. It had a contain Nick FitzGerald and stop the run yet probably but does Florida have the in? This'll sound really strange is Florida as good defensively, Kentucky. Probably not not even say Florida's rush, defense, star seventy. Second, as I said hill and Williams combined, we're twelve carries thirty six yards. I expect that to be a one hundred and fifty more possible right up between those two against. Like I say this very questionable, Florida run defense. I want to say, I want to go back to one thing real fast on this because I want to get fully in here in a minute or a few minutes. We go back to Clemson Syracuse so much was made of Kelly Bryant's decision to. Transfer from the Clemson program, and it will be easy to sit here and say, it's not going to matter because the freshman, Trevor Lawrence is he opened that offense up in a way that Bryant never could, and they'll be fine in. And I think that's right. But now they are one injury to their starting quarterback away from in all likelihood falling out of college football championship contention? Yup. Redshirt freshman chase. Bryce would be the next guy, and I'm sure he's talented. He wouldn't be at Clemson if he wasn't. But there is now virtually no depth at quarterback for Clemson with Brian's departure. So if you want to find out where there's an impact, if Lawrence gets hurt, God forbid, of course, you'll see the impact of Kelly Bryant leaving the program went from great shape at quarterback to very, very scary shape at quarterback. No doubt it is by the way the final weekend baseball's regular season tune in today is the cubs host the cardinals. The cardinals have got a win their last two games and have a couple of. Dodger losses to have a chance at the postseason coverage begins noon eastern on ESPN, radio, ESPN, radio dot com. ESPN app. It is presented by barbasol razors. All right, as promised crystal leak of the bear three college picks and one of the NFL straight ahead Dory and Milius being radio, ESPN app dorey as Pnn radio e. s. p. n. app good to have you with us as we take it at ten o'clock eastern time on this week, five college football Saturday. As we do it every week we bring in the bear Chris Pollica from the Stanford Stephen, the bear podcast, two and one last week Feliks in the college football picks to even up the record at six and six. You've got three games for us lineup. Here. We're gimme first off before you dive into these three real quick gimme what would have been like number four? But you ended up leaving it out. Defeatable. There are actually three other games that I kinda liked there for that fourth game. I thought Connecticut is a big home underdog against Cincinnati. When what was an option. I thought Wyoming is a big one hundred dollars point with their defense has done a good job against was a good option. And I thought saying Jose State as a double hundred underdogs minutes. Hawaii would be a another outfit. Those with three, three big dogs. I also Chris seems like just looking at two or three picks and I, but Dorian, I talked about this during the last break about the emotions, ups and downs, letdowns teeing on different games and having things go your way. Looks like two of these games and you're playing the emotional game for these eighteen nineteen twenty year old college kids. Yeah, I I think there are a couple of really good spots for for a couple of teams there any other team that the third, the third wall, I think there's a little bit of that emotional situation as well. So let's get into it. Let's do it, man. What are you got force for first game is loss. Washington minus seventeen at home. It's be while you BYU was an underdog. I think the caught a lot of people's eyes at this number with really, really high. The fact that they beating Arizona, beating Wisconsin BYU's the offense is not going to be able to run on Washington tonight. That passing game has been pretty anemic dub defensively as well. Really, really good a front better than Wisconsin, I think. And even though take Browning amounts Gaskin really haven't been able to get going. Thankfully I can't see BYU scoring more than say thirteen points. And can you put up thirty one? I think they can't. So I like Washington with my first pick right Washington minus seventeen against BYU. What's pick number two. I think there were two is also in the in the Pac twelve. I like Cal at home getting two and a half against Oregon. Justin Woolcock team has been very good as a home underdog in his short tenure there. I think Oregon needs to get over the emotional scar blowing that game last week against Stanford, but but I think it's garbage continues to grow off instantly a cow. We'll get better offensively and and I don't think people realize their defense Cal, the Cal golden bears their fifth nationally. Defensive efficiency Wilcox's did an unbelievable job. He endured her getting that defense scored away. I like to think how the small home underdog to I went out, right? I still got Washington minus seventeen. Cal plus two and a half and the Alaska. We've talked to have Mississippi State. You're going with garrison and bounce back mode, not very good last week. Do you look about Florida against Tennessee? Got Dan Mullen situation here. Why do you like Mississippi State minus the seven? I think it's it's a lot of that. I think the fact that this is fifty state like so poorly. Alternatively, last week that it's, they cannot play that poorly. Again, I think they get the public situation. They get a thinking at home with Dan Mullen coming in their former coach in Florida, Florida put up a bunch of points on Tennessee last week, but I think that was more bad and it then it was good, Florida. I mean, Tennessee turn the ball over six times on the city-state's going to turn it over six times. I really big home game for Joe Moorhead at Mississippi State. I having a lot of the circumstance. And I think the team that Dan Mullen left behind in starkville is better than the one that he currently has in Gainesville. So I I like Mississippi State rights chip tonight and in in wins by board at seven, and they need to. They gotta find a little pride up front. Mississippi State does. So you're three college picks to recap real quick, Washington minus seventeen at home against BYU cow plus two and a half at home against Oregon, Mississippi State minus seven at home against Florida. Now give us your NFL you two and one on the season of the NFL. What do you got. I'm gonna have to go against my beloved New York Jets. I like Jacksonville might have to seven and a half at home to get the chance. I think Sam darnold will continue to grow, but going against a Jacksonville defense now with the Jaguars off a loss last week, I think they're gonna find point card to come by against Jacksonville. Jaguars will be well. He my beloved checked by double digits. All right. Jacksonville, minus seven and a half against the jets. All right, man. Hey, real quick. What's the single game in the college, but in college football today, out of so many good ones. The one that's got you most fired up, what is it. Can I as a sandwich, William? It'll just with how the last two years separated by a combined two points swings in the fourth quarter, the team, it's way both of the game is lost. I think this game tonight is really, really interesting, especially with without Nick seminal off tonight on the road. I'm really looking forward to this much Chris. I know it's not a pick for you, and I know you're feeling the energy, you're feeling what it's like up at Happy Valley. You got a sense of both these teams with their capable from a personnel standpoint. Where's your lean in this game? I think it's both teams play their best. Ohio State will win because they both teams play their best. I mean, the Ohio State offense of line is giving a point, ask those receivers, and you'll look back the last couple of years prefix thoroughly completed something like forty, four percent of his past. I think in two years against YO state defense and without God, wouldn't. They shot Hamilton, maybe that number tops a little bit. So I think both teams play their best ally. Alive station, win the game, at least by touchdown Feliks good to have you buddy. We'll, we'll follow along. Good luck to you and enjoy Happy Valley. That's going to be a special place today. Man, talking to yards enjoy your weekend. Chris is Chris Pollica the bear. So I, by the way, I just put the his picks on Twitter at ESPN Dory. So they are up there for the world to see again, Washington minus seventeen, Cal plus two and a half, Mississippi State minus seven, and then Jacksonville in the NFL minus seven and a half against the jets Doreen mill ESPN radio ESPN app brought to you by Pennzoil synthetics, taking synthetic motor oil performance to a whole new level, make the switch to Pennzoil synthetics today, and you're right man where you see where the emotion of these eighteen to twenty two year old kids quote unquote could come into play right? Those Oregon bounce back from a heartbreaking loss. They know they should be sitting at four. No, they know that that's a team. If they have beaten Stanford, they're sitting at probably. Thirteen twelve thirteen fourteen in a country. Now they got to go to Cal and deal with a team that is overlooked nationally, but shouldn't be because cows really good is fully ca said defensively, and then Mississippi State bounceback buck up show a little pride show that you're better than we saw in Lexington last week. So he likes them to do that. Yeah, he doesn't game. They'll be watching star in Michigan. Northwestern four thirty in Evanston Michigan's one a nice role now, shape Patterson's, red hot corron Higgins giving him balance running the football, chase, win. A bitch has been one of the best edge pass rushers all year. He right now could be a first round pick come late April. He keeps this going at this pace getting air for the quarterback. I wanna see north western their, you know, a Michigan against north western Michigans of two touchdowns favorite. I believed are it's what it was. I wanna see them continue this progression to maybe become maybe a final four team, like I thought they could be back in August. We shall see. We'll get into that one a little bit too. As we move a lot. There's so many games we haven't even touched on mount, but we're going to, but straight ahead, you know where we're going NFL I know it's early three games in four for a couple of teams. But right now who would lead the charge as the NFL's most valuable player. That's our hot-listing. That's next ESPN radio ESPN app.

Surviving The Storm
It getting knocked down on the football field makes you tough. But getting back up makes you tougher at Goodyear. We call that determination a willingness to put in more hours more reps and more of heart to reach a bar that sky high because the Goodyear blimp doesn't show up for just anybody. So don't be just anybody the blimp worthy. Good here. More driven. This program is brought to you by ice cold Dr Pepper, the official drink a fans. This is campus conversation. Now here's your host. Ivan Mays l. throw ask some time. Now he goes down, can't lose on the try picked up by the defence touchdown, Miami. Number ninety. Seven, Jonathan carbon picked up. The football took it to the house. Quartermaine sack the quarterback. We just talked about the turnover chain. They're gonna hand it out on the sideline at Miami touchdown for the canes. Oddly enough, that's live. The Miami defense is still scoring against North Carolina. Yeah, just getting. Actually that was last night Miami forty, seven North Carolina, ten hurricanes. Three defensive touchdowns perhaps you wanna know who we are. This is campus conversation. It's Friday, September twenty eighth twenty eighteen. I've in Maysville here you there in you being among them. Both guys in Charlotte today a little unusual Ryan McGee Hello. Ryan. Yeah, I should have had over to the house or I should have, at least I'll actually the Motor Speedway I should have had ceelo come up here because I know he misses his NASCAR days crisslow. I actually an route into state college for a bigger game than whatever's happening at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I think. But fact now you're okay. All right. Short, a little gap in my NASCAR knowledge there, but see low and roots, Ohio State Penn State, how you doing. I'm doing great and reminded coach Franklin that the last time. I was there for the Ohio State game. What happened. Of course, that was two years ago, the white out, and that's the game for precipitated that unbelievable run by Penn State. And I, I did notice speaking in NASCAR, Ivan that the picture that Ryan tweet it out in the the media center there, Charlotte Motor Speedway. Does it look quite as smokey as it did thirty years ago. No, they don't. They don't hand out free cigarettes like they did back in when you were out here, but they do hand out free energy drinks. So no one, no one's coughing, but everyone's very jacked up. That's right. And no one's sleeping. All I have to do is look at a can of red bull and I stay up the rest of the night. All right. We got a lot to talk about Miami's big win, big games in state college as well as south bend up. Love the little things we'll touch on. Should we be worried about an upset and Baton Rouge? We'll get to all of that as soon as we get out of the tunnel. Time to come out of the tunnel on campus conversation. See low. I was going over the stats of this game last night. Miami's forty, seven, ten victory and it dawned on me that every time the cozy Peres started through Miami, they've scored three defensive touchdowns, which is probably a some analysis. You don't get everywhere, but seeing him, I had a chance to meet with coach Rick this spring, and from my conversation, it sounded like he was going to be the guy at some point. And of course we're seeing now, but yeah, the turnover chain got a workout last night. Perry, a redshirt freshman in the same class of insane, graduating high school recruiting class, as course to tongue of Loa and kellyn mind. He was a find Miami founding Mark, Rick sinding, and then it was just we all thought, I, I'm not gonna say we all thought it was a matter of win, not if but because Maliki Rozier seemed in -sconsin that position Ryan, but quite a difference in how Miami transition to its young quarterback than Clinton. Did. No, it's a great point, and but I want to say something else to how terrible is North Carolina. It is stunning to me where they were just two years ago where they are now, and it's not only that, but the body language is terrible. Larry fedora looked almost completely disinterested in the second half, and I just it. You know his his weird CT comments side from the summer. You even if you take that away, it's just been a strange bizarre, twelve months and Chapel Hill. And this is why in their in their the process of finishing their multi zillion dollar indoor practice silly. So it's it is. It is a strange strange time, Chapel Hill, and and they certainly did nothing to disprove them prime time on Thursday night. It's stunning Ryan just how bad they are. Three nine last year one in three this year. And yeah, all of a sudden. And I hate, I hate putting guys on job watches because it's not fair, but you know, you're three and nine and you're one in three and and really haven't looked all that competitive. It's just a bad look. They get a week off. Then they come back Virginia Tech at Syracuse at Virginia. So that's no prize. So North Carolina, we will keep an eye on two big games. This weekend one in state college where Chris will be one in south bend. Let's talk about that. When I Stanford at Notre Dame, I am. I do pay attention to Stanford having graduated from there and paying tuition there these days. I'm not real confident Ryan, their chances Saturday night. Yeah, going. I'm I'm, I'm really thanks. I really curious to see Notre Dame in person and have they arrived. And I'm really curious to see Stanford because obviously they had that emotional comeback win on Saturday night. And the question is was as much Stanford being that good or organ coming apart at the scene answers, probably somewhere in the middle and I wanna see, Bryce love in person. I, you know, where is he physically? Where is he mentally because that's where the team is physically mentally. And so I'm really, really curious to see air. Bryce love is physically mentally because I feel like that's where the team is really curious how good Notre Dame. Actually, everyone wants to expand playoff. The reality is. Playoff games, own Saturday night one, I'm going to attend in the one that seal is gonna tend us that's potentially elimination games for the postseason. All right. And it's still September. You gotta love that. That's selling points of an every game counts mentality. Number seven. Stanford number eight. Notre Dame to be specific to your point of as Bryce love goes so goes, Stanford doesn't have to be that way. I think that's just the way David Shaw operates his offense. The fact is we have seen in the first four games k. Jay Castelo is a capable competent and perhaps more quarterback. They've got several tight ends that are very good. They've got Caja Kostelic, certainly loved cadence Smith. That's his seems to be his his Goto target, his security blanket JJ. Sega Whiteside is a is a very tall, very athletic guy who has learned how to use his body not only to get open but to black to box out defensive backs quite effectively. And yet David Shaw continues to run first and then try to work the pass. And later seems to me maybe an and I speak for every Stanford alum who I've ever met. You know, maybe perhaps he would pass. I in set something up for Bryce love, but I just don't think that's going to happen one. One other thing to consider what this well, two things to consider ceelo about this game. One which we've talked about on this show. Stanford played a night game on the road against the ranked opponent last week, so they get home late Saturday night, turn around. They've got a play. I ranked opponent on the road this time to time zones away and be. See, the thing we haven't discussed is classes started this week. So you had kids that were operating pretty much as just college football players and nothing else for all of August and all its timber. And now all of a sudden they're attention is going to be diverted by going to college. And I think that's an adjustment that all of us underplay and I think it's something considered with to consider with Stanford tomorrow night. Well, first of all, I have you talked to university of Tennessee, grad all about higher institutions of higher learning. Yes. And are you also telling me that college? Football's just an activity? It was. Is that what you're trying to say? Well, we often refer to Stanford as the Tennessee of Santa Clara county. So I understand exactly what you mean. You know, who would have fought come into this game back in late August that you got to quarterbacks. They're coming off red hot form. You talked about what cage Acosta did. Believable performance against Oregon. What about any in book? Yes, was really good last week completed, I think seventy seventy five percent of his passes more than three hundred yards. A couple touchdowns ran for a few scores, so you get to core. I don't think anybody maybe would have predicted this back in August. And maybe it comes down to which quarterback plays the best does it turn the football over, but that to me is one of the more intriguing storylines in this football game. Yeah. And book again, a smooth transition from one quarterback to the other. Notre Dame seemingly from the outset anyway. And I find it fascinating that. Now, you know, the seems to be a new trend and you'd be a new that's redundant neutron slightly slightly. Forgive you. Fourth. Okay. Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame all. Maybe it's just an ACC thing. You know, you're in the to change quarterbacks or weeks in, I don't know three or four weeks in, but book played well, last week, this is a tougher defense, Lance Anderson. Stanford defensive coordinators very good at it, making end game adjustments and very good at flunk, sing young quarterbacks. Not to mention that Wayne Akina the backfield coach has a knack for sending his players to the NFL. So this is going to be a lot for book to digest. And to me, there's just one more fascinating storyline in that game tomorrow night Ryan, are you? Do you have it syncing your head of how you think the game is going to go. I think it's another night. I think that you know, maybe the Michigan game isn't what they wanted it to be as far as you know, ranking everybody's list for compliment. So this is really what they need and they have a Notre Dame schedule and that's good. But I think this is really the win they're going to need and they're going to need to pull for Stanford the rest of the year. But to me all due respect to Stanford, I kind of feel like I know who they are. I wanna see Notre Dame in person because I won't to our house St. last weekend. And yes, it was a guest two lane, but I left that game believing. All right. They have a quarterback that can make the college football playoff. Now I wanna go to Notre Dame and in person. See if I feel that same way when I leave Southend on Saturday night. Do not adjust your podcast that is Ryan. Now on the telephone we've given up on the internet and we have FedEx to Campbell Soup cans. In case this doesn't work. We'll be prepared because that's what we do. When Peter Jennings used to be in London correspondent for ABC world news, this is what he would sound like talking over like a payphone somewhere. You're just a Charlotte correspondent. Now, were they having they have one of the internet. See low to withdraw. Motor Speedway and Tom's are tough in NASCAR. So maybe. Have internet here anymore. Well, they have a payphone though. That's how they're making ends meet. So if you hear here coins jangling that'll me Ryan is still on the show. Getting knocked down on the football field makes you. But getting back up makes you tougher at Goodyear. We call that determination a willingness to put in more hours more reps and more of heart to reach a bar that sky high because the Goodyear blimp doesn't show up for just anybody. So don't be just anybody be blimp worthy Goodyear, more driven. All right. Let's move on. Let's move to state college where she low will be tomorrow night. A huge game on ABC seven thirty eastern the number four buckeyes the number nine Nittany lions. I'm surprised that there's that big a discrepancy in ranking. I don't know. I kind of feel pretty good about Penn State in this game. See low. Tell me why I'm wrong. To, and you know, it's when I was at two years. I don't think anybody not many people maybe outside James Franklin is immediate family. Penn State was going to win the game and they did, and you go back and look at what pins taker. Ever since that game. They've been as good as anybody in college football. I, I agree with Penn State up front to me. These games are one, always the combination of your lines of scrimmage and your quarterback. Now Haskins it's been lights out. I was at the TCU Ohio State game a few weeks, really comfortable in the pocket, throws a ball big arm and gives them that dimension. But I've just seen trace McSorley too many times make the kind of play xactly will is team will his team to win big games. I'll always go back to what saquon Barkley told me last preseason when I was up there. He said, you know, anytime trace McSorley your quarterback, you're never album football games and that really sums up. Here's the other thing, Penn State's off of line against Ohio State defensive on Ivan, that's out without its best player. Nick Bosa, coupled with McSorley gives Penn State the edge. Nuance are gonna win. Trace McSorley has thrown a touchdown, pass in school record thirty, two consecutive games. That's the longest active street in the FBI according to your stats and info. People who are never on McSorley also been a second half quarterback this year. Penn State is a hundred seven point plus margin in the second half Ryan de wanna speak for live state. Do you want to. Perhaps tweet something about silence or should we just. No, my internet connection thinking maybe someone from Ohio State is in charge of that today because I didn't make a lot of friends. I, I went up there on Saturday and just kind of bird. Dog are remind and just how was his day going to be returning from history week. Administrative leave as physically armed, and I wrote a column about it the road piece about it, all needs dot com. I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday. And the reason I was there is I wanted to see where his head was where his emotions were, and he was at least for admire very emotional and talked about having those things taken away from him for three weeks and things like the skull session and hugging out with his team before the game and hang on Sluki he, he was very emotional about this things. And so my question is, what will his emotional hangover be or the teams emotional, hang everybody. But when I left I, I was so impressed with Wayne hats and ruin. He is one of those. I think you have to see him in person because he's bigger than you think he is. He's more accurate than you think he is. And so my I would have just said prior to last weekend, all high. Stay no way they can keep up if it turns into trace McSorley track meet. But I think if Haskins is given the time to do his job, I think they could potentially score a lot of points. I think Penn State wins the game, but I think higher state has much better chance to maybe I thought that they did assuming that that emotional hangover isn't there. Haskins in the first four games is averaging two hundred ninety nine yards and four touchdowns throwing which is pretty impressive already two games with five touchdowns this season. And we've, we've talked about losing Bosa in what that means for how state that we've talked about this game all week. I can't wait for it to be played. I'm gonna have to have to, television's going as I'm sure all of our listeners will as well. One other game being played tomorrow night that just wanted to bring up because it's kind of an SEC rivalry. If if you go back long enough and that's ole miss at LSU omiss has shown a little more life Vichy here against everyone other than Alabama than certainly, I expected that three touchdown victory over Texas Tech opening weekend looking a lot better as Texas Tech makes its way through the big, twelve and LSU as number five, of course, looking a lot better. So we've completely given up. On North Carolina internet, and we've now asked Ryan to hand the phone to see low in Charlotte. I don't know how long that pay phone court is at the Motor Speedway. I hope it can reach. Ceelo, but am I completely off my rocker to think that almost has a shot. I don't think so. And you've been around this this series ole miss l. s. you've seen games over the years. Ivan, where you felt like one team was heading chillers by the other. The other team would rise up and play. A good game omits control the ball. You've got to me one of the better receiving core Alicante, football, and I know Dave wrandell issues. Defensive coordinator was extremely disappointed last week with all the passing yards shoe gave up. So you know that Matt, Luke and ole miss, have combed over that film and watched the see how they could take advantage of that LSU secondary. So they're going to score points, always go score and move the ball, and most people that play this year. Here's my question. LSU is when you look at, let's resume to this point. You can make a case they got is gonna resumes by in college football, two tot two wins over teams of ranked in the top ten at the time they beat him. Or they as good as the record and not those wins suggests they are. Is there a game out there where they're gonna stump on just not play well, is this that type of game? I know November. Right. I know this about ole miss and LSU eddoes you're on. Doesn't delight in beating anybody more than he does all that. I. It's time with John. He, he will be ready. His football team will be ready. They will not go in there in any way, shape or form not ready to play, but I do think they're gonna play well play better defense against the pass and they did last week. Well, yeah. And by the way that game nine o'clock eastern on ESPN tomorrow night Ryan when ceelo reminded me in ceelo if you could pass the phone to Ryan when he reminded me of the two top ten wins, then I, I wanna back off any possibility that ole miss will actually win that game. I think LSU I keep forgiving LSU is better than than I thought they were. Yeah, but I but I mean, they just surrender what three hundred yards and a few touchdowns to Louisiana. Tech. Jim is pretty good, but that I think that ole miss is a little better. So. I think it could end up being as much as everybody would like for it to be an old fashioned. You know, by USEC west slugfest that it's not what it's going to be. The problem is almost can't stop anyone either. Yeah, I it. It should be an interesting evening, but I the issue with LSU because they, I want them to have a natural rival, and I've always kind of waited on on this to become that natural rival and it just, you know, they have the trophy with Arkansas, and they had this thing with Texas saying him, and you know, you know, the Bama thing is what it is, but they would rank at least at best third on bama's rivalry list. So I want so badly for someone to step up and be LSU's kinda now for rival. And you know onus is always felt like the right candidate, but it just hasn't worked out that way. No, not sense. I think today's Johnny Vaud in Charlie mcclendon I would guess Paul, diesel if you gotta go. Back that for and that's which is a different way of saying the same thing. But the good news is for all of you. People who love southern football culture. This kick off his eight o'clock local time. So death valley will be hopping tomorrow night. There I've in the first question for you from smitty j. at I l. smitty Jay says between Texas USC and Michigan, which program do you think is closest to making a playoff appearance in? Which do you think is closest to being a legitimate contender on a yearly basis? Well, obviously the closest to making playoff appearances, Texas, because there's a chance visit semifinal game in Dallas this year, and so they're only four hours. Good on, yes. Smitty, but you know. Clearly USC is struggling and both Michigan in Texas. They're still sort of a Lucy holding the ball for the extra point component to them. If I may. Date myself with comical Sunday comic references. Do I I, you know, I tend to think Texas might be real this year. I'm still not entirely convinced Michigan. So maybe the answer is Texas, and in terms of. But closest the playoff appearance this year? No. And in terms of being a legitimate yearly contender, I would say Texas with that just because I think after a rocky start, I think Tom, Herman has begun to unravel the not that is the longhorns. So I am going to go with Texas. There you go both literally and figuratively closest Ryan. The next question for you is from a preferred walk on Victor Romero at Victor Romero fifty, five. Victor would like to know which under the radar undefeated team is getting the lease love when it should be getting more than nominees, Duke, Colorado, Cincinnati. And of course university Syracuse, or is it somebody else. Well, firstly, Syracuse plays Clemson, this weekend. We're getting too much love from our show. Our shows leading the way here. Well, that's because we love our producer, thanks. But I feel like we talk about Duke on this show a lot because we all feel very strongly about David cutlets. But Colorado, I don't know is receiving enough attention. Listen, the win over Colorado state is not as good of a win as we thought it would be. Colorado state is terrible. The win over Nebraska is not as good as we thought v. 'cause Nebraska, Mike, be worse than Colorado state, and then they defeated New Hampshire. But now I kind of UCLA UCLA's coming to town. They're terrible, but then it says, state, USC, Washington. I mean, you see where I'm going, then it gets into the meat of the pack twelve. So all on it was I saw Matt Schick down at the ESPN Charlotte office yesterday or the internet works, and he is a through and through and he is very quietly excited and he's also a football man. So I think may. Maybe we're not talking about about list or someone told my Colorado enough. Fair enough? Yeah. I blame Schick though for not bringing more of the bus onto the show because I'm such a honk for my school. He should be for his as well. Trey Smith closes out with this question for ceelo. He's at trae eight. Forty two. He too is preferred. Given today's social media driven, instant success demands from fan bases. What's the reasonable amount of time to allow for a new coach to rebuild a poorly performing power, five program ceelo. You know when coach comes into a program like that, the downtrodden program program that hasn't gotten that done. There's a reason he's there and the guy before is not there, you know, rarely do you see, you know, guys come in and take over Taj Mahal programs where the cupboards completely full. I use Kentucky is a great example. I spent some time into bluegrass with Mark stoops last week, Martinez sixties, Kentucky, and he told me on a quickly that's the support he'd received for Mitch born. Or if the UK athletic director administration, there was a huge part of what they've been able to do now. Kentucky still gonna finish the season. But as Mark said himself in year three and you look across the country and he's right, just about everywhere and you and your three, if a school has it quote, unquote, broken through at one, eight, nine, ten games, you know, in gone to a big bowl or been at a championship game, the conference. Everybody wants to get trigger happy, and those were his words, and he's right. Well, that didn't happen to Kentucky. You know, they didn't. He didn't turn around quick. I think they won seven. It's the last couple of years they had chances to break through and have better seasons. They did, but all the while Mark was able to Bill the way you wanted to build it. This is six cease you from the inside out this team right now, they started their twenty two stars of the night. I think eighteen we're in their third or fourth year in the program. He's got a ton of kids from Ohio. It's been able to go into neighboring Ohio and bring players, Kentucky that were really good players. Maybe high stay, didn't recruit. It takes time. He's built the right way probably were specifically, he's been given time to go up to right way and I'll tell you what, I don't know what's gonna happen. The rest of the season where hell shakes off Kentucky, but they didn't just beat Mississippi State. And I beat him up physically and it takes time to build a program that help. But stoops's done that. And he's been given the time. I like that answer. Very good. Ceelo. Keep the questions coming. We will need them next week. Use the hashtag walk ons and if you haven't had the opportunity to do so all ready, please subscribe rate and review our show the extra point. Can you read me. Okay. All right. Talking to lewke in the studio, Evan. I thought we always just trying to play army. You know, another thing, the kids don't do anymore. All right. See, Love's got a plane to catch. Let's start with his extra point. Well, we've heard a lot about three as and seeing college football last week with quarterbacks. Kelly, Bryant situation, Alabama dot guys, transferring Alice veteran players? I wanna remind people that's the whole. This whole new redshirt will was something that coaches across the board loved, okay, they supported it. They voted for it. Every rule changes made. I don't care whether in football or anything else. They're always gonna be unintended consequences. So they're going to be more players like Kelly, Bryant veteran players who decide, you know what? I'm gonna go somewhere else and play. My last year doesn't got beat out or I'm not. Nope, it's running back. It's not getting as many carries. That's just part of it. But to me, the good still outweighs far outweighs that with this rule because you're gonna get to play young kids now are not ready to play a whole season, but maybe you get a man for two games for three games. You play 'em later in the year, your plan your you could tell they're not ready, but they get paste of it. They don't waste your whole season of eligibility. You know the kid that gets the play, the bowl game or the last couple of games because you got somebody hurt at a key position when now you don't hesitate. If your coach, you don't hesitate through kidnap family to go in and play and see what you've got, but you know, you're still gonna have your your eligibility. So I think that's a me far outweighs. Entities, other situations that are going to say they're always going to be those situations kid had that right under the rules that exist. Now, if they want to go somewhere else and play, feel like there's greener pastures that doesn't make it wrong. It doesn't make it right, but that's where we are now in college. Football knows the ruled. I do believe though that the new red show role overall in the long run will be good for the game. That's a great point. See low, I and I think also the other thing is it keeps the spirits of a redshirt freshman high. You know, these kids were so good at what they did in high school and all of a sudden they go from being the man to forgotten in terms of what happens on Saturday, and just give them a taste of it on Saturday keeps their spirits high, and that can only benefit them because it's hard enough to go to be a freshman in college anyway. All right, c. lo, thanks and head off to your plane hand the phone over to Ryan Ryan. What do you have. Well, we I, it has been. I want buy this weekend to look on game. They probably wouldn't have thought about otherwise and that is coastal Carolina at Troy. And the reason I want you look into that game is because the coastal Carolina Sean to clears the left their campus, which is in Conway, South Carolina, just outside of moral beach on September the eleven, because the governor, South Carolina mandated evacuation of the area because of hurricane Florence, they lived in Jacksonville, Florida hotel for almost two weeks finally returns to the Conway area with the coastal Carolina campus is still closed because of flooding after Florence, even though it's been a couple of weeks, they've been staying in a motel Myrtle Beach, and now they're headed our Bama to play Troy. Again, that was supposed to be a home game. It doesn't look like coastalss next. Home game will be until the middle of October. They were supposed to start the season with a slight pack with home games and only played the opening weekend and the rest of the time have been having shift around the last minute to figure out whether gonna play. This is all reminder that in eastern North Carolina along the coast of South Carolina, the flooding is still a problem. And the rivers actually are still about to crest in certain areas of north and South Carolina. And this is said, like I said, a couple of weeks now after Florence. So it's just a reminder to keep that area in mind and and maybe maybe quietly route because to Carolina this weekend because they have had a very, very difficult last month. I'm certainly gonna root for him. That's a great point. And, and I'm really glad you brought it up. My extra point has to do with Heisman trophies and specifically those one before nineteen ninety eight. Perhaps you saw the news story that the family of Clint Frank, the nineteen thirty seven Heisman winner. The third Heisman winner, his descendants are putting his Heisman Trophy up for auction for sale. Five Heisman trophies have been sold at. Sports auction, sports memorabilia auctions over the last twenty twenty five years. And they have brought anywhere from two hundred ninety three thousand dollars to nearly four hundred thousand dollars. So they don't come up for sale very often. They are prized by collectors and the prices expected to be at least four hundred dollars when it goes up for sale next month. Now the reason that Heisman are only available if they were one prior to nineteen ninety eight is that the Heisman trust, then the downtown athletic club. Now the Heisman trust did not like they're trophies being sold. So beginning in nineteen ninety nine. They put in a rule and Ron Dane was the first to agree to it that you may Hanjour trophy down to your descendants tomb every like. But if you want to sell it, you have to sell it back through the Heisman people, the Heisman trust as far as I know. Well, I didn't ask the question. I don't know whether anyone's ever done that or not. I don't know how they set the price, but that means that in perpetuity. Unless the Heisman trust changes its mind than only the trophies from nineteen thirty five to nineteen ninety eight. We'll ever come on the market. I think the Oscars have a similar policy, so and if you can think of two more, I Kana trophies in America than an Oscar in Heisman. You're, you're better than I. But it's kind of interesting to me that they both look at their trophies the same way. They dare you to sell them. That's it for today's show, we wanna thank of course my colleagues crisslow and Ryan McGee producer, Josh macrey wanna thank the American Telephone and telegraph company, Campbell Soup, whoever else helped us put this show together, twine makers of America. Yes, we can't forget the time the bell south payphone. So they into that? Yes. NASCAR Charlotte Motor Speedway and everybody else it's, but we got through it and I hope our listeners did too. If any of them have not clicked out of shit, we will be back on Monday until then have a great time watching games tomorrow, but you know, get us out of here again.
