"CL, and S 50. That online with a game stats. That's where the game starts. So you mentioned interesting thing with the power play. I mean, remember back in that Carolina series and down the stretch, they could never enter the zone. And when they did, not much happened. And it's an interesting thing because I was reading up about the stars when he first came there because they defend like John klingberg, Miro heiskanen, este lindell, they had some solid puck moving guys. And they emphasized, as you mentioned, just take it slow. You don't have to immediately rush up the ice. These quick ups, you don't need it. As long as you have the puck, you're fine. I am interested in how once Matt grills like and Charlie mcavoy returns. How that runs. I'm interested in how it impacts Brendan Carlo. And how it impacts him because you know what? With a guy like him who's not the greatest puck mover in the world, maybe taking it slow isn't the worst thing in the world, letting him kind of see what is in front of him. Whether or not they keep Mike Riley for this, although I can't imagine like a coach, you know, a certain coach would make them keep him. What are your expectations for each position group? And what impact your Montgomery would have on them? Yeah, I think it's one of those things where you listen to what other players said about them. I think even Tyler say again was talking about Montgomery's impact for him and what he liked about his coaching style is that it's a lot more of seeking input from the players of I think Sagan pretty much said he was the first coach who they sat down and met and he was like, all right, what do you want on your line? Like who do you think you best mesh with? And they kind of built it from there in terms of like, you know, you've got different key pieces in the line that you know where their strengths are and you kind of let those pieces fall into place. It's kind of what the quote you mentioned earlier in terms of you look at how posture and our compliments, bergeron and Martian. I think for him, it's for, especially the forward grouping. It's a lot of just, I think, candid open dialog, especially which I imagine you're going to see during training camp about. All right, we know what your strengths are. Let's play to them and even if maybe it's guys that you don't expect being inset roles if it leads to a spot where you're getting more offense or more effective play out of a guy, whether it's if Jake de brusca is still here, the way he plays or maybe for focusing on different aspects of a strength to their game. So you look at take de bruss, where they're just emphasizing more of his driving to the net. And if you have a better setup guy, they're just getting a great AI, he said, all it takes is a tip or a rebound to lead to a few more goals. So I think for Nick Ritchie. Yeah, exactly. Again, it's a pretty set formula, right? When we always look at how the bruins have struggled with 5 on 5 and even strength offense, a lot of it's just not adhering to those simple smart plays. You got to make down in great AI. So I think from the forwards, it's what's going to be refreshing, I think, is that very open line of communication of getting the input from the players themselves as to what works best for them. Again, I don't think they can all just be like, put me with Brad marchand and David Boston, or anything like that. Chris Wagner is like, I would like to.

"Just again, like, and Riley's not a good defensive guy anyway, too. You're well aware of what you're getting with him. So he's not the guy you build your decor around. Yeah, I mean, again, that would be maybe I'm wrong about this, but I think I'm right. That would be like if you built your defense around like Tori kruk. And again, krug might even be a little bit better defensively. And again, I think crew was also as much better defensive system here. But again, I like Riley leading your D not really, no. And again, I look at that team and the way they're built and it just goes to show you that you actually do need to invest defensemen. Is a thing you need to do. And that's why I wouldn't surprise me. I don't know their cap situation at the top of my head, but I believe muzzin is still on IR, correct? Yeah. I believe there are a range. Yes, so I would not be surprised to see them add another defenseman or just another average defenseman at the deadline who they are going to pipe up all the media up there is going to say that, you know, Mark Giordano is still a top pairing left shot defenseman or John klingberg. Lindholm, that was the one that we said they were going to get. And he was going to come to the savior up in Toronto. So would you be surprised to see the bruins pass them? That would probably put them in range to play Florida or Tampa in the first round, which doesn't really help. I don't think that really helps your playoff positioning at all. But hey, the higher I get the higher yet, maybe the better. Again, I said my big prediction was you're going to upset Florida in the first round. I would be surprised to see that. And so if it gets you to play Florida, great. Like I just think if they Tampa, you're done. And there's nothing you can really do. So I would much whatever helps you get to Florida. You find a way to do, because again, the track record on Tampa is just too big. And then with Toronto, playing you in the first round. I don't think I still don't think they want to play you in the first round, just given the track record. But anyways, that is this week's bruins beat. Connor, what before you go, what would you like to plug? What kind of people look forward to you over at Boston sports journal? Yeah, we'll have plenty of coverage leading up to the trade deadline. We had another story. We dropped today, exploring Brock besser trade and why I thought there should be a buyer beware tag for a guy like him, even though he's, seems like it makes a lot of sense as a potential 30 goal guy. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Deeper into his stats. A little cost for concern there. So we'll do a couple more of those breakdowns. I'm sure we'll probably explore Giroux as a possibility possibility later this week, so all that stuff will be over at Boston for watch journal dot com. So subscribe over at BSA, want to follow me on Twitter. You can do that at Connor Ryan underscore in 93. Go do all that for selling this media. I'm embarrassed, you burns B listeners, have a great rest. Of your week. Don't be wasting. Eggs waste. Wasteland.

"Most so well and as far as As far as for us fans with short term shorter memories. I don't think this matter so much well and this. May i mean if you're gonna even think about doing that as the stars this may be the year to do it because honestly sometimes it's not necessarily about where you dropped in the nhl. Because i mean i mean look at edmonton for example. I mean how. Many number one draft picks up. They had over the past ten fifteen years. Quite a bit off taylor hall ryan nugent hopkins connor mcdavid and and they drafted high like not. Just you know top ten but sometimes five on a consistent basis and yes. They're making the playoffs. But i mean look what that happened to them this season the they got swept so and then what the other argument i will look at is who are the two biggest players for the stars right now who have been kiss who have been there for the longest time. Jamie benn well. Even before sagan before sagan jamie benn and john klingberg when were those guys drafted what round where those guys drafted in in the fifth around for both of those guys so it's and then and then look at joe pavelski. When was he drafted sixteenth. Or something like that was like the seventh or ninth around or something crazy like that but it's not always about where you draft but how many draft picks that you have because you have more chances to hit the dartboard so that kinda makes sense to me and and is kind of you know. Pull me over to the dark side and giving me cookies on On that particular idea so any final thoughts on that that's too. That's too far advance for me. My my brain doesn't comprehend anything that's happening week of my prison being so i don't know about all that all right Okay and here's here's a fun one all right so the his next one is sign a true scoring difference maker in free agency..

"Into the hot zone that hit a teammate. That was Tanner Carol, former hockey dominant. Kubelik takes the puck away hotline skates ahead over the center of a circle, then dumps the puck to the left wing corner in the Stars in David Camp, scrapes it free. They're erratic. Fox of the Stars will flip it behind his net. Now. John Klingberg, the leading scoring defenseman for the Stars, grabs the puck in the far corner back, hands up through the air and down and Ian Mitchell will pick it up. Now, beside the hockey teams, a line change both of these teams, the Stars and the Blackhawks have gone with 11 forwards and seven defenseman. Major Subtractions from the Dallas lineup that have been playing extremely well hints in Paterson again. Banged up and say again, just coming back. "Minutes left. Dang we're not going to be able to finish the radio show during the game. That's gonna be strange. That's all right. Yeah we we got about eight minutes ago in our and the radio. Show here guys So we've talked about under. We've talked about delay andrea And robertson finally got an another point today in robertson has looked great this game and he and he's been kind of quiet. Since is you know rand. Ooh that's a nice play by ben since his exuberant outbursts of offensive capabilities so It hopefully starts picking it backup especially if our top guys aren't aren't figuring it out so right it seems like a couple of guys who figure things out secker has been shooting the puck more which i've definitely appreciated i like i know slapshot existed like he's gotta throw that thing a little bit more especially with his first goal of the season. That slapshot was sweet. You gotta use that. Well and what i've noticed in all three of these periods is that i've actually noticed them bringing those defensemen into the rush so it's not like the man they they stop at the blue line when they get into the zone. They actually like drive the net. The defensemen are driving the net. And what seems to be happening is that when the forwards are not doing that. Then they're backing up the defensemen and they're up at the point which has been which is kinda worked out well for the start yes lately and that's more of what we need to see from this team so especially when you're when you have your top three top three ford's out at and your other top guys aren't scoring you. Need you need those great defensive or offensive defencemen to to get into the rush as much as possible and to shoot the puck as much as they can because the forwards aren't going to do it yet. The forwards are not doing it right now especially because like you said we're we have a first line that That's out we. We don't have our top line out so anyway back to robertson Has he made more of a defensive effort recently and that's why he's been getting in more of the games rather than delay he. I told you about this when he first started playing well too. I feel like he's been playing great as a two way forward from the from the get go so i think he's his backcheck especially has been really on point. They're sicker again. Goodness good job secretary. Look he's getting in the offense below the dots. He must be singled. I know. I know. I know as a good shot seconds gonna make a fan outta me yet guys goodness where was that at what what. What's the time right now. i i miss. I don't know it was like eight minutes but go watch that flavors. I grew sweet like eighteen and out. There goodness yeah not as much dangling and speaking of dangles did you see the. Did you see the goal Tidal landry s goal that little. Move from klingberg. Oh yeah inbetween. Even surprised me. I added klingberg. Does that sometimes. Okay all right and by the way we got to talk about the. I'm officially annoyed. With the klingberg trade rumors. I'm officially annoyed with them Have ignored them. I can't ignore them. I've tried but it but people keep missing it on twitter. People keep mentioning it on facebook. They keep mentioning it and all these media stories in like in one of the most annoying things is that i've seen some stuff about john klingberg. Toronto and i'm like what cap space like everybody wants to go to. Everybody wants to go to toronto. Apparently according to toronto media. But i mean but it seems like everybody outside of the stars..

"Christian. How's it going this evening. Going fantastically yes. So we're in a little bit of a strange situation here Along with christian chambers. My brother i am ryan. And you're listening to star cast marks on three sixty five. Sports cast radio network We are a dallas stars focused show but we also talk about anything we want whenever we want to. And we say it sarcastically. Many times so tonight. We're in a bit of an interesting situation because while we're doing the radio show we're actually. Oh that was a good shot. we're watching starts game. So currently the stars up three to one in the second period with four forty four to go and they're on a power play. And honestly chris the power play has looked. Kind of iffy looked awful. Yeah the first place sucked. They got no chances. At one shot was robertson's off the draw but yeah right and it wasn't and it was a decent shot. But i mean it's it's robertson and what's funny is that one of the things i noticed about What saad put up on on twitter. This this evening was after that first power play. He said one of the things that he talked to bonus about in the pre game show and the pre game interviews gives me. Was that the first power play unit needs to shoot more and that first power play. Unit has pavelski ben robertson and are too big ins in mirror heiskanen and john klingberg and none of those guys got a shot except for jason robertson and the second power play. I think kind of frustrating to me not have green up on that line. I don't know no i to me i you would. You would think but gary on off has not played particularly well the past twenty games he s one goal. Yeah but that's back to the jamie benn doesn't play. Well that doesn't mean we're not gonna play jamie benn right right top goalscorer last season. That jamie ban should be playing those minutes. jamie van is jamie benn didn't scare viscosity on a number goals leader. He is a second year player. he he's yes. He's scored twenty goals. Rookie that's great. Okay fantastic okay. But he is not jamie benn. There's a difference between those two players. Jamie bay has better hockey player than jamie. Benn right now like i would disagree with that. He's a goal scorer. He might be a better with a better player. He is not a better plan to not have them on the for carpal unit and not play him in overtime. I think is ridiculous. But whatever okay. So let's talk about this real quick because this is i put this up on twitter and it's kind of bugging me even watching this game and i hope that bowness said something to khudobin while the in the second first intermission. Sorry but the past two games dhabi the good last game right. He got the shirt out but one of the things that bugs me more than anything is his. Stick play behind his own net. That's been true. That's been true since he started on the stars like he has not been a good stick handler. But it's been particularly noticeable. The past two games that we're watching and then yesterday and every time he touches the puck. I'm terrified. i know i know. And it's it he's not in you would think. Oh it's murder turco behind the next..

"I think they're well coached. I think i think there is an understanding of what needs to be done there. So i you know they probably were. A lot of people would have expected them to be in terms of separation from you know not being in the playoffs But but i like. I like so much of this team. You're the guy that i just. I'm so impressed with a got a chance to spend some time with them. During the two thousand eighteen playoff run in with is david perron. Yes oh my god explain. Why only nine points at twenty eight gave a great story and just the best guy ever to is so you know again. I think there are probably areas of concern to me at the point With this team in their history. It's i would put them very sort of moderate to low level of her. That's my assessment. Well a before we wrap up. I'll ask you about the deadline. And you know it's it's interesting to think about The trade deadline and what it can do organizations but players to and you know peron will say and and be open as you know about how tough it wasn't edmonton and what getting traded to pittsburgh and getting to play with you know some of those guys and then getting traded to anaheim getting to play with ryan gets laugh like what that did for his his career and then did i think for the blues when he came back so there are some big names in your piece you have four teams in the west including an intra division potential trade. You'd like to see. I won't give it away. Go subscribe at the athletic dot com. but scott. will you give us maybe your favorite deal Of the of the six that that could happen a month from now. Yeah i would. I use the one that I don't know whether this will happen. And i'm just curious to see how the dallas stars are going to deal with some really crushing salary cap issues moving forward. Jamie dan tyler. Seguin who account for north of nineteen million dollars against the cap and we know the caps can be flat at a one point. Five million for the next couple of years until the economics get sorted out after the pandemic and the shortened season. so for me the guy. That's so interesting. john. Klingberg such an important part of that dallas Blue line. he was critical. Part of that team. Going to the stanley cup final To win short of cup championship. I got one more year left on his deal but he doesn't have any trade protection and he's going to be do a very significant a increase. I'm not sure dallas stars can afford to keep him. That's just reality facing jim nill And i know there's a team in philadelphia. Desperate for a top four defender baby someone to play with ivan provorov. It would be a huge deal might be too much to do the trade deadline But i'm curious to see if the stars a look like they have a huge uphill battle to get back in the playoff picture in the central division after a rocky start That's the one. I'm curious about john. Klingberg to philadelphia. That would be the one that i'm curious to see. Whether that might have some legs in might actually come to fruition. It's interesting and You know a similar age apples and oranges. Maybe a bit but a similar ages To win the blues acquired j bohm eastern and what bom. Easter did a steady that blue line. Which would you. You mentioned earlier. And the blues beneficiaries a handful of times now and other teams cap issues and doug.

They were last night there Well dressed every night, but my God, where they dressed Well, last night. Yeah. You shouldn't be surprised by that. No, I'm not. It's just I admired every time I see it, especially from a guy who always wears his bears pull over. Let's go to the crew on a hotline. That's where we find good time. Patty Boil another big win. Pat, Are you feeling I'm doing great, and before we get to Tommy's favorite hockey team, can I weigh in on the hot take of the day from you, Sylvie It's so the irony of Sylvie using the dating hookup analogy with its magic. When Sylvie truly was looking for Mrs right? He got married alley 15 years his junior. When Sylvie is looking for a quarterback, he lane the cougar's been divorced eight other times, doctor. It's not gonna work this time selling. Look, I'm always looking for a quarterback in their prime, though. That's the key. I know you're here, and if I can't find one in the prime, then it's time to do with what you could do best for that night on that given night, so young No younger. Go, Daddy, Let me ask you this question. What a nice segue way That would be is all four guys on the ice for for our favorite team were rookies last night. That's a perfect segue way and that really speaks to wear this team, the direction they took this off season. And last night we had eight rookies or second year players in the lineup. As you mentioned Tommy on the game deciding goal. You had four rookies out there together. I mean, you have Kevin Lincoln in that Yeti and Mitchell the defenseman. Yet Brandon Hagel's setting up You suitor, all playing an important role in that. That game winner and it's kind of been what we've seen now over the last 11 games, these young guys coming together given the opportunity of opportunity Collectively, I think there's something to that. You know, in years past This was such a set lineup that Take a player from Rockford. They come up and make their NHL debut or they get ah little bit of run because somebody was injured and they were under the scrutiny under the spotlight. And The rest of the line up was kind of set and we would sit there and analyze their every move, and he's just not ready this year. It's different because they're all doing it together. And in that game that we saw last night, few suitor who now leads all rookies with five goals. He had the costly turnover, actually twice had an opportunity to clear the puck on Dallas is lone goal. So within the game, you know a lot of times you see somebody be sat for a period of time. Certainly not put out there. The high leverage situation like overtime, but like in last night's game, Pew suitor Made a rookie mistake and then made amends for it and got the game winner. So that's kind of been the theme we've seen thus far on the young season, right so just to get this out of the way you mentioned three different times. He I you asked is pronounced pues que Yeah, like juice drop the J put a Pete AARP use How people suitor tell P. How did the Hawks get pew Suitor? And where? Where? What are we talking about with him? Okay, so he was the Swiss League and VP last year. And he had played in the hallway Chela few years back, so he had some North American hockey experience. He was in the Swiss league last year, had a lot of goals from 10 ft. And in something that this team needs two years ago, they did the exact same thing with Dominic Kubelik. You remember he played in the Swiss League. He was the Swift League MVP. He came over to the Hawks last year, and he was a Calder Cup finalist as one of the top rookies in the NHL, so they They followed that same formula. They've had a lot of success guys in Europe, and that's something that you know for all the the criticism that Stan Bowman and hockey ops gets. You can't really argue with their success in Europe from the pin, Erin's and cos you look now suitor. Kuba leak. Even Philip Kirsch, of who they drafted, is a Swiss born player, Kevin Lake, then was wasn't drafted. He's from Finland and spent the last couple of years in Rockford. So they've had a lot of success picking identifying players in Europe and then they're not the on Lee horse in the race, so to speak, that is courting those players. They have set up a plan where that those players have seen guys from Europe go over to Chicago and have success with the Blackhawks and get paid and the brand is is a big brand overseas as well. Oh, that all comes together, And that's why you're seeing success from some of these undrafted European players here with the Hawks in recent years. Should we start thinking differently about collagen is well, I mean, in recent weeks, we've heard King Talk about a buy in from everyone..

"Blackguard from stars tied at one after two periods of play time Now for our second period discussion, we head back down the hallway here in our WGN students with timer, So I'm just saying Troy Enmity is he and mark on the show Last night on Dhere becomes the third of four players that we have had on Black Hawks live to score a goal in the following week. So Obviously, if if players want a little offense, they need to come on with us on Monday nights. That's some strategy right there for you. I don't know what you can come back. There's your selling point. But stick with that. It was really funny. That you mention it this morning is his good buddy John Klingberg, and by the way, yet marking Klingberg went had pretty good cross checking each other behind the net on Sunday. But Klingberg goes through about 45 seconds about how great a player that yen mark is, and then he says, he just doesn't have a very good shot and walks off the podium today, and it's ironic that Klingberg takes the penalty in the and marks the guy who has, if not the last laugh, at least temporarily. The last laugh and he takes the penalty on yet, Mark. That's a nice combination there. Yes, he didn't need to shoot it. He just redirected it. But you know, this guy can continue to show Valuable player here is enough to five goals in 14 games, and he had 62 last two seasons with the Dallas Stars who had him in a little bit of a different role, But he's showing his capabilities of what he's able to put together the first couple years of his career. I really like what I'm seeing from the guy. He's very, very reliable. Defensively. He's a smart player. He does all the little things that a coach wants to do, and then he's getting he's getting the opportunity to to Produce offensively was not used in that kind of a role with Dallas and their top six forwards, very skilled and just didn't have the opportunity to excel in that role, and he was more of a third line type of player in a straight line nor South guy and he still has that. But he's also given a little bit of offensive flair to his game because of the fact that he's getting some more offensive opportunities when you're playing with Patrick Kane, and not necessarily tonight because the lines have been mixed up all over the place from Jeremy Collinson with 11 forwards, but on a pretty consistent basis. He has been the left winger for Patrick Kane. So we're getting an opportunity and getting results. It's kind of a ride because Dallas Dallas really didn't necessarily light it up over the last couple years, there are more known as a defensive team. With goaltending is well, you know how they didn't use him a little bit more offensively. It's kind of a puzzle to me. Speaking of coming through and and Dallas, putting some offense towards Kevin like it in the second period, they had 189 to advantage in shots early on putting pressure. But Langton and with a very big period there to keep the black cocks it and here we are 11 heading the third. Yeah, he made a short handed save. Wanna break Way on Blake Komal, then Gary off comes out of the box and Very poor awareness for the Blackhawks defense of guys out there to just kind of be in in the middle of no man's land and not recognize the fact that a guy's coming out. If that happens, one of the guys from the Blackhawks defense has to come all the way back and cover up that play. He was in all alone. He had all kinds of time to do whatever he wanted to do there and Lincoln and comes up with the big save. And they really put a lot of pressure on the Hawks to start that period. And you know for the Blackhawks just hanging around and getting some great goaltending again. From Lincoln and gave them their opportunity. And finally on their fourth Sitko feeling good power play. The second power play unit starts it and they get it done. Did a great job there Time now for asteroid approved by Team Hochberg visit WGN. David dot com Jerry from Valparaiso asked. Are you surprised by how well the team has been doing lately? Surprise. Surprise. Yeah, Jerry, I am. I'll be the first guy to raise my hand and say I didn't expect this. You know there has there has been struggles, but It's been pretty impressive the way that they've been able to hang around these games and one of the major question marks coming in was how was the defense going to play and with the goaltending with very little experience of the NHL level, be able to handle what has happened here in the last couple seasons? In their own end of the ice, while the Blackhawks have tightened it up defensively, they're making better plays and better decisions, not necessarily in this game, but for the majority of the season so far, and they've gotten great goaltending, and they're getting production from some of the unknowns that they brought in Yon Mark, one of them currents have with his four gold suitors got four As well, Um Hagel of playing a big role, and they're so there was a lot of unknowns coming into the equation. They've been very surprising and pleasantly surprising. I was on NHL network today, talking about the black Hawks and you know again, they just brought it up. But, you know, were you surprised? But why? What's going on here? And, yeah, I am to the degree of where it is. I've been very surprising. It's just It's an excellent job by the coaching staff and the players to recognize that this is an opportunity for them to kind of quiet some of the Doubters at the beginning of the season. It's kind of been a theme and they're coming out and saying that points in nine of their last 10 a chance for 10 and 11. Hopefully two points here tonight. They played their best at the tail end of that second period. So hopefully after scoring that goal and building some momentum that their bail to carry that on into the third period and not rely on their goaltender as much great stuff if you'd like to submit a question for Troy to answer on the air just go to WGN radio dot com slash.

It's like this team is good. But i don't think that they're going to cut again. I mean playoffs. I think it'd be a different story for them. I think regular season wise especially with all the low hanging fruits and this division. I think they're going to play fairly solid easily enough to make the playoffs. And honestly i see them being way better not way better but i see them being fairly better than columbus and nashville. So i think it's a no doubt to put them in the top three especially in actor that i guess the wait. Yeah i agree with you all right all right so number two. Let me guess yours. You have the carolina hurricanes. You're wrong way. Yeah i have the tampa bay lightning all right. Well i guess it goes without saying that carolina's my number to carolina's thought i got that wrong. You know just as many things as i can say about tampa at number one. I think they're gonna be great to especially subdued but carolina goalscoring dude. They're going to be great Here give me one second. I just want to bring up top. Six top. six knots. Sabbatical contraceptives names right. That's like the face team dude. And then you look at their depth score with warm fogel. Join stall on the third line. That looks good to me. You and martin meccas like yeah. I'm not too familiar with him but he looks like he's going around that team well especially in the bottom six. My only question them as their goaltending. If peterman razek james rhymer can like hold up but i mean even further d. cores nutty. Yeah i'm looking on another decoy. Looks great do socially dougie hamilton. Like you read to me before. What does he top five in the league. La about we. I was reading off. This page had dougie hamilton. The fifth best player in the league ridiculous. I have to take away from his play though. He's a great but integrated. I don't see them beating out tampa. Though i think the tampa teams way to shaw. All right so will the last thing. I'll say i'll say about carolina. Why have the number one. The decor is insane. That top six is insane And even the third line yet. Four line is too. I think that this is the team and So the reason why tampa number two is because it all hinges on stamkos is health if stamkos stay healthy through this condensed season then i think they can be number one but they already have kucherov out for the season right true And then if they have steven stamkos out. That's a huge. Those are two huge blows. Yeah i mean a lot of their offense the the main the main point producers and it's just breaking point and not slashing on him or the rest of the team but i mean you have kucherov and stamkos. Now that they're going to be number one with two them out and that's a huge thing for me is it's contingent on same coast. No i think for regular season in new. You got a good point there Going into the playoffs could be a little bit better off especially getting putra back and especially stamkos stay healthy..
