"Has a voter's signature witnessed. To help establish their eligibility to vote. Normally, you have to have the witness of another voter, or you, notary. Ah, And that's just been the requirement for absentee voting for years that was waved on the theory that Cove it makes that dangerous. Wow. And an important protections for border integrity and here, But here's the big one guys, and this is what I want. You're listening, understand? Prepare for and think about how they could help. That consent decree extends voting for an entire week in Minnesota for absentee ballots. So as long as an absentee ballot, which has no witness signature now doesn't need one is postmarked by November, 3rd. It could be counted is later on November 10th. There was seven dicks essentially in a 70 extension of our Election day, which after extending into the beginning of September You've got well how much time you need to fill out, So he takes a couple of minutes seriously laughing there and put my hand on your shoulder and say, I know it's crazy by the Wall Street Journal was mocking Minnesota and saying This isn't voting anymore. So great. So we have early voting and I got to get into that girl. How the hell that happened. Why would you? Why would anybody cast a vote this early? Would I mean I get it? Maybe you're dead set, you know, exact seriously vote for, But I mean, anything could happen. But what? It's Ellen. Erection day. Yeah. I just what is sitting there right to sit in there waiting for election, Right? Like all things, it was down ballot races writing. I know. Okay, maybe you maybe, you know, there's nothing that's going to change your mind. You're going to vote for Trump or you're going to vote for bi Nothing is possibly going to change her mind. Fine. I can accept that. But on those down ballot races, maybe your congressional reason of your state Senate. Raise your state house race. Things like that. You might circle that bubble next to somebody next week. He may find out. They like to kill puppies. John John Thompson. What? You know what? What if you were? What if you were running for office, right, right, And you're ready for office. You feel that your ballot early and then the John Thompson episode happens. It actually gets proper coverage and all that. Everybody jumps off that bandwagon. But look, look at you voted for you know, I mean, come on, Dick. Youlus, Can I have it back and change please? Million people are expected we have about 2.9. Close to three million people probably voting and then it's out of this year in the general A million or more expected to vote absentee so you could have a result. On Election day that looks one way and it'll be like the 2008 Frank and Coleman rate for every day. It's like, Oh, well, that's the results. You're changing because I have a million ballots coming in sometime between mid September in November, 10th And that's what they do. There's another lawsuit I want to mention and I'll come back and talk about it. It's the Minnesota Voters Alliance. Doing to enforce the rules that we have party balance on the ballot boards. They count all these after tea ballots. We were expecting a decision for Manzi County Court last week didn't get it. So it should be coming down in a day or two. And as soon as it does, I'll let you guys know, But that case is more important than ever. Given everything else I told you because After the Frank and Coleman debacle where nobody really believed that Franklin one by 312 votes. The state Legislature reformed our rules so that the people who are counting the absentee ballots Half party balance. In other words, you have somebody from the GOP on somebody from the D F l although we have two other major parties, you guys the marijuana parties. I can't agree on anything. So there's two of them. But you gotta have probably be late. Probably would have no way count ballots today was in a new fish record, read the lighter notes linchpin to whether or not we're going to have confidence and The out from here in Minnesota. Given everything else I told you So I assume we get that decision, But you guys keep us in the loop. We really appreciate it and we appreciate everything you're doing with the Minnesota voters Alliance. It's It's important work. It's important fights, and we really appreciate you keeping us in the loop on it, okay. Hey, about here. You guys take care. We'll talk again soon. That was Kim Crockett. "I was close closest. I wasn't spot on those three point nine million was the semi-official number there. it was better than last year Saito a night race but that was actually not a night race was postponed to Sunday. It was not as big as the two thousand, Eighteen Daytona night race, which is four point four million. But remember this first year with where this was the cutoff race and last year's it way better than any of the two previous years cutoff races last year indeed the brick was cut off raise two point nine, seven million also in the big network. So a million more than that, and then two thousand eighteen doesn't count. It was a Monday race and they point two, four, million for. An unless look at it this way. And they and they really just dissect this one holy crap. So the Cup races they tuna two, point four, rating three, point eight, million average. Lowest. Rated addition of the race formerly known as a firecracker four hundred at least ninety seven. Wow. Okay and the Least Watch since at least two thousand excluding rainouts excuse crossing all Daytona races only the road race reese ago averaged a smaller audience in that. That's still boggles my mind because was a new race you know. And so I figured I wonder if Daytonas lost its luck for some people, well, you know and that leads us into a story later on that will talk about as well. Where NASCAR president and the the stands full Steve Phelps said that said that he doesn't know if there's going to be another Daytona road course race next year for points. But. If there is, it won't affect. Either the oval races, they'll still have two oval races one to start season one to end the regular season just like we had this year and yeah, and so I, mean we don't need three races there, and of course, my vote. Given. What we saw a couple of weeks back my vote is `to bother with the road course because not that exciting. Yeah so. It's interesting I I don't know. If Daytona I think that they tone a may have only lost a little bit of its luster because. It's so dependent on an teammates giving each other push. and. Like we've seen so many times they talked about the entire race and I just made mention of it earlier. The outside line is fine but the inside line you've got get like fifteen people to even try to make a run and you know those classic Daytona races those lines were pretty much equal. You know if you got a couple of guys down low. You can make Iran and then they had the block and then everything split up into two maybe three lanes and then got interesting again and the only bad place to be was in the middle and now you know if you only have like three or four cars on the bottom, you're not gonna get anywhere and that doesn't make it nearly as exciting I don't think No I don't think. So either, this racing was kind of a anyway. Yeah I, mean. It is what it is. I suppose plus I don't think you've got that. I think it helps when you've got that driver. That is like. You know an epic. restrictor plate course racer. Stale. Senior. Then, it was still junior. And you'll really have that person anymore. So like if you were in, of course, there are tons deal juniors, tonsils, senior fans even if they were struggling, you knew that if if they went to Daytona, there was a chance a really good chance that they were going to be the front of the field and you know junior could be running a fifteenth in the past five races all the sudden there he is at the front and that whole idea of man in the last ten laps, you can see a guy go from fifteenth to first. Because some of these guys are so good at it. I think that was kind of part of the learning part of the reason why it it may be was bit more popular before than it is now because you don't see that you'll see a guy I mean we'll you Byron started last thing that he was upfront. You know green flag was up front. You didn't have somebody coming from twelfth to I in one lap and it doesn't feel like somebody could come from twelfth to I in one lap. Yeah I mean it. It kills all the drought. It's just about who's going to survive the wreck next Exactly. Yeah. Who's going to survive the wreck and who's got their teammates behind him at the various race and let's face it. We did have a teammate behind him in the end of the race and chase Elliott so. which it was so hard to keep tabs on that for chase Elliott car because it was so different than regular paint scheme share. Alright. So finishers in this one. Obviously William Byron First Cup win. Locks himself into the playoffs. In on a roll to I mean, he stepped up to that challenge of trying to hold off Jimmie Johnson he really didn't fourth last weekend I this past weekend. And Chad Canal says never missed a playoff. Yeah. How about that? Yeah. Th. Straight. Season I think in the playoffs. Wow Man. That's insane. the Bob Wallace deft best finish of the year. Big Finish for him with all the rumors about what his future is going to hold me. It's huge. Of course, state-owned I'll take it for what it's worth. It's a huge finish for him in general and he's he's always been a pretty good Daytona Talladega type of drivers. Yeah. That's good. Yeah. Brenneman Gone Master of staying out of the crap. Brendan Gone Finishes Eighth Shockingly that is not his best finish of the year he was seventh in the Daytona five hundred. And he's got one more shot at Talladega. Start. Ever in NASCAR. Then he's back to be in pit boss. Exactly. He's going to tell you to you know always hit on sixteen just like he does. Wait. We can't we that was your line sir. We can't make fun of bread gone coach passed away I know that was so sad and John Thomson at brought back. So many memories of the Saturday night sports. Jim. John John Thompson. Man I was so bummed when I saw that When I saw that I'm like no, and then I thought to myself. John. Man He was the best. And he's a humongous humongous there. And he comes into the house and he sits down on a couch. And, you know, he sits down and makes the cast looks so small from from the standpoint, you know, he makes the Catholic small by that may know something. Standpoint of his presence. In the in the in the room. I mean, it made the bloom even smaller. I remember talking to Dwayne Brian, you're talking about you. People don't know a fellows from Jackson, Mississippi, Dwayne Bryant from a point guard who was just right before you in the late eighties, you know, was out of New Orleans and Della Sal High school. Georgetown became his global brand. So just just just describe that moment when he's sitting on the couch. You're you're home in Jackson, Mississippi, and here is the head coach of Hoya Paranoia, right sitting right there in your living room. No. And in that moment, what's going through your mind as a young high school senior Well, you know, I could. I could really couldn't believing there's you know it was. You know, my dream school, you know, you know I wanted to go there. You know, and just having dairy, you know happen Talkto my family and everything. And have the opportunity you know, to meet him with dream come true. When you get a chance to fulfill a dream like that, Sometimes a lot of people think about. Hopefully, the nightmare doesn't overtake the dream. I get the sense that was not the case with you Go into your dream school playing for John Thompson. What was it like knowing him as a coach and then becoming a mentor. We had a chance to be a Georgetown under him. It was great. I mean, selling somebody. I mean, there was It was hard. I mean, it was hard, You know, you come out high school and You know, everybody's telling you, you're You're this your grave everything, And then you get to Georgetown hit smack in the face. You know the work. You had to do what you know. From, you know, if you talk to anybody, you know one thing that you know, Coach coaches a teacher. He's always knows that I know that I'm not a cold first. I'm a teacher. You know, a teacher first on And he did, you know? He took Leopold, you know being being Ah! Forcing me to be a cannibal. But no patient patient and teaching me and Help me grow and understand and dealing with Bye phases will help me with my sales as well. A ce faras. The failures go. What did you learn from him? That you still maybe implement? Not even as a coach is your people? People don't know You're coach now. A fella, But just in your day to day life. What did you learn from Coach Thompson? You know what was funny? Coach, if you know anything. Coat code would call when we're practice Coach with a Yeah, I know what you did here. Eastern time long time adversary in the Big East and and Jay, This is a guy that was super important, and I can't wait for us to be able to talk Tio gym and take a trip down memory Lane quick. Yeah, really excited to talk to Jim. Obviously, that was his big time rival. But they're also really good friends. And here's the thing I'll say about Big John. A lot of people love to talk about his accolades on the court. No. We talked about yesterday prop 48 him standing up for that prop 40 to know, really denouncing both of those but ultimately had 97% graduation rate. And I don't want that to be re missed. He helped So many kids from the inner city haven't opportunity to come to realization that they Congar O to a school like Georgetown now on Lee play basketball, but also graduate from a great academic university. No question about it all the things that people are fighting for in 2020 he was fighting for in the 19 eighties. Also should not underrate that I'm wearing a do rag this morning. This is probably should have led with that. It is the top story. That's where I want Everybody get in the car like he said. So they don't have to look at this. They could just listen. My boy was like, Is it Allen Iverson's birthday? Something that I missed something with Zubin? You put this on my head today, I will admit it's a little tight here. I had predicted the Mavericks going to keep me out of this. I had predicted the Mavericks. We're going to knock out the Clippers. I was wrong. I lost the bet you wanted to dress me up is the legendary Ali G. So what? I'm scared about here Keys. This might just be step one. I mean, I don't know what you know. It's one day I decided not to go with the chains and the glasses. That was a little bit too much. I want to keep it somewhat classy and professional. I appreciated classy and professional. I don't want to do rag. Don't wear Keyes is coming on Friday. Keyes is coming on Friday that that's when you're going to dress up. The way I tell you to dress up. It's going to be Frank, listen, classy and professional. Probably not the best two words to describe how Jags coach Doug Morrell untreated Leonard Fernet yesterday basically just saying a bro We tried to get 1/5 round pick 1/6 round pick. We couldn't get anything. So essentially, we released there's a ton of people that think huge change could be coming to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mike Tannenbaum, ESPN NFL Front office insider who dealt with key throughout his NFL career was on get up yesterday with Mike Greenberg and the gang and he made it clear Look, Doug Marone is certainly looking to keep his job there in Jacksonville, although his seat is hot, and this is a big time spot. But if things go wrong Think about this dynamic duo hitting Duval. Coach. We're own sort of address it, which is, Let's see how the season goes, and if they play well, it's a moot point. But on paper with all the players they've lost, they could have the first pick in the draft. And if they do, unfortunately for coach moron, he probably won't be there. And then again, it's a package deal. If you're a Dabo, Sweeney and you have any thoughts about ever going to the NFL. This is the perfect situation. It's right down the road, and you're going with a franchise quarterback. So Obviously a lot has to happen, but I think it becomes very realistic. If Jacksonville does indeed have the first pick overall which on paper they may, especially after the last 48 hours, losing in Ga Quay. And for net woke, E. What do you think, you know? It's interesting, right? You think about when the Jacksonville Jaguars first started their franchise, they got a guy from Boston College named Tom Coughlin. Yep. In T C did wonders with them in an expansion situation. Times are a little different now, and what I would say is double Sweeney Garak College coach has to understand what he's getting himself into. If this if he wants to take a leap To the pro game from college. First of all, you gotta hire the right assistance. Hying assistant coaches is not easy you because guys are under contract this compensation for guys that you want to get from NFL teams. If you plan on bringing your entire staff from college to the pros so way different situation because you're dealing with grown ass men with full beards would car seats in the back? They don't want to hear any of that. There's rot. They don't want to hear that. They want to know how we can get to the Super Bowl, and where's my paycheck? That's what they want to know That's that's facts. Furthermore, personnel is different in the pros evaluating it, then evaluating high school tape of the high school kids coming to college when you have a situation where Trevor Laurence takes over at the quarterback spot for Brian Kelly Bryan, who was the starter originally at Clemson before Trevor Laurence took over. You can't do that in the pros. You can't all of a sudden decide. I don't like him. I will play him. This is not scholarships you playing, which is playing with salary cap money, and it's a big money, right Quarterback 20,000,030 million pick money. You can't bench a guy like you could do in college, So it's a different situation. When you look back at College coaches come into the proles. No Count Pea. Carol. Everybody points to Pete. Pete was a program before he was a college guy in New England. Did you look at the guys who supposedly have had success? Like who Like Nick Guy ran back to college. From the frozen excitement like you supposed to know who Nikki is right. Take saving her or you think about Greg Schiano. He came with that college mentality to the pros in Tampa bait, and they was like Greer, come on. When you go go work for ESPN and redo this thing all over again before you get back in college because the pros are not for you, and he's at college, and he's back in college, Steve Spurrier. Came to Washington ran Ng back had to go to South Carolina Chip Kelly had a year sold here in Philly, and everybody went to San Francisco disaster. At U C L A disaster. You sell it? No, I'm just I'm just point to a few guys right, so I don't really know anybody that's had any success. But I could point to. I don't count Pete Carroll. What about Harbaugh? Harbaugh. Lt's you, you, but But Okay, so, Jim, the way that I look at Jim, I look a gym as a pro guy He was a football player had played in the pros He played under Coach Ditka. You played in Indy had success. So he becomes a pro guy. It kind of has a pro mentality when he was in college at U. C San Diego is well A Stafford with a pro mentality. I'm serious. Don't do.

I was wrong I lost the bet you wanted to dress up as the legendary Ali G. so what I'm scared about here, keys, this might just be step one I mean I don't know. It's one day I decided not to go with the chains and the glasses that was a little bit too much. I wanted to keep it somewhat classy in professional. I. Appreciate it Classy and. I went with the do rag. Keys is coming on Friday keys is coming on Friday Friday. That's when you're going to dress up. Dress up his. Own here on Friday. In classy and professional probably not the best to worst to describe how judge coach Doug marrone treated. Leonard. Fournette yesterday basically saying. Bro. Jaguars Mike Tannenbaum ESPN NFL, front office insider who dealt with key throughout his NFL career was on get up yesterday with Mike Greenberg and the gang, and he made it clear look Doug Marrone is certainly looking to keep his job there in Jacksonville although his seat is hot and this is a big time spot. But if things go wrong think about this dynamic duo hitting duval. Coach. Marrone sort of address it which is, let's see how the season goes and if they play well, it's a moot point. But on paper with all the players they've lost, they could have the first pick in the draft and if they do unfortunately for coach Marrone, he probably won't be there and then again it's a package deal if you're Dabo Sweeney. And you have any thoughts about ever going to the NFL, this is the perfect situation. It's right down the road and you're going with a franchise quarterback. So obviously, a lot has to happen but I think it becomes very realistic. If Jacksonville does indeed have the first pick overall on paper, they may especially after the last forty, eight hours losing in Gakugei. Cornet woke key. What do you think? You know. It's interesting. Right you'd think about when the Jacksonville Jaguars I started. Their franchise they went and got a guy from Boston college named Tom Coughlin. And TC did wonders with them in an expansion situation. Times are a little different now in what I would say is. Double Sweeney Iraq college coach has to understand what he's getting himself into. If if he wants to take a leap to the pro game from college first of all, you gotTa Hide Right Assistance Hyang. Assistant coaches is not easy you because guys are under contract. There's compensation for guys that you WANNA get from NFL teams if you plan on bringing your entire staff from college to the pros. Can tell you that about John Thompson because it was unforgettable episode is West point out one more thing like you mentioned the eighty five championship game with Villanova, which, of course, one of the most amazing Games ever in college basketball in the tournament particularly but he his three. Right, because of a divorce. Problems. His marriage. He told his team you know and. Even. He announce I you know I gotTa I. GotTa Address my family and. "Spent five days norlander, I want to get to both men obviously, but let's start with the most recent news the breaking news if you will John Thompson junior the first black coach to. Guide a Division One team to the incidentally tournament title when he led Georgetown to the National Championship in Nineteen eighty-four has died at the age of seventy eight you wrote the Oh bit for CBS sports. So if you can explain to the listeners, some of whom are perhaps too young to properly understand impact big John made. Explain why John Thomson the Georgetown Legend is one of the most important figures in the history of American sports. Yeah. No doubt about it and I know we have young and older listeners alike but. Surely, a certain percentage of our listening audience was not alive when John Thompson left the coaching profession in nineteen ninety nine. In my opinion parish. John Thompson is a person that you can only not only you have to tell his story if you're going to tell the story of College Basketball Okay I'm so the story of college basketball can't be written without John Thompson and and I believe the story of social justice for black people in our country can't be told without John Thompson because his prominence from the seventies. Big Time in the eighty s when Georgetown was at its peak and then into the nineties and really even there after was huge, there were other prominent accomplished black coaches by his side most notably Nolan Richardson who won a national championship in Nineteen ninety-four with Arkansas and temples John Chainey who were Frequently outspoken on these issues. But John Thompson because of where he coached. Georgetown which was not which was not seen as a haven for black athletes to go and play basketball until John Thompson got there. In fact, the irony is that John Thompson was an incredible. Basketball player parade. All American wound up playing a providence played on. A fact that I think almost never gets acknowledging discusses that John Thompson was a third round NBA pick and was a member of the Boston Celtics Championship teams during the during a time when the Celtics were the absolute dynasty of the NBA, he was an amazing basketball player, but it more speaks to how big a figure he was as a coach that that part of his life is. Is Put on the total backburner there but he grew up in Washington DC and Georgetown was such a non factor. It did not even recruit him when he was a parade all American Uganda playing at Providence and listen any coach that is worth his or her salt will live on through the memories in appraisals and and high praise of their players but to. Me and Alan Iverson has become the player who has embodied us more than any other I? Think former John, Thompson player When he said he saved his life, he had that memorable tear-filled hall of fame speech in two. Thousand Sixteen Day I Thompson, himself was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of fame in Nineteen Ninety nine the or that he left coaching. But for everything he stood for was vocal with us and make no mistake about it while as we talk on this podcast and you'll read plenty see plenty here plenty of John Thompson. He fought for what he believed, but he was also among the most difficult coaches to deal with, and that is to his credit all these years later but he he was very aware of that. He was He was beloved He could I can't get the image out of my mind of him, revealing him wearing the the Louis Carnesecca sweater when he played in Saint John's he had that that saw side to him but absolutely, he could be. Rough and gruff wasn't always kind to the media and I think at the time when he was doing a lot of these things, parents and speaking up for. Racial injustices and Fighting back against. I WANNA give you the floor here too. But like there is a particular thing that stands out to me amongst all the other things it's when he went to the final four, eighty two and that's win ewing was a freshman and he basically was asked about being the first black coach to make it to the final four. This is a direct quote from John Thompson in. One, thousand, nine, hundred, he said I resent the hell out of that question it implies that on the first black coach capable of making the final four that's not close to true I'm just the first one who given the opportunity to get here and I think something that's important for everyone to keep at the front of their minds as they learn more and hear more and intake this. Just. Tragic death with John Thompson is that he was speaking truce to a lot of things in the seventies and the eighties and the nineties that I think only in the past two weeks to months to years have become more on the forefront of the discussion in mainstream American sports discourse pair show credit to him his legacy will live on. I. Got Plenty More to say but I'M GONNA throw it back to you with your thoughts on on what he meant to college. Basketball Sports in general and then obviously reference to your column. You know. John John Thompson was a a larger than life figure in sports, but you know on a personal level. For me because some of it comes down to. Time. Now, I was born in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety seven, and as we've talked about in various conversations before when I started to really attached to.

Remember he walked off the floor in the eighties when they had that proposed prop forty eight rule. And the prompt forty-eight rule which didn't get passed. It was a way of saying that if you didn't get rage, you couldn't play as a freshman. When I think of Thomson, I think one guy more than any other and that's Alan Iverson. And Alan Iverson. I forget what it was, but there was a fight at a bowling alley when he was a freshman. And he was up on the day as and the press was talking to him and. Someone asked Iverson about the fight. Remove all their Saturday rather remove all about I mean, when you're in a neighborhood threatening that If people don't give up their jobs, you're going to burn down their neighborhood. Um, let's let's keep having that discussion on the BLM is a terrorist organization or not, because the proof is on video Saturday in front of my house. Here's what I don't get If I'm sitting in my house, if I'm if I'm having some people over at my house, maybe we're in the backyard and I'm playing music very loudly and it starts to get kind of late at night. My neighbors can call the police and they can have the police come over and asked me to To turn down the turn down the music or to or to tone down the festivities because I'm disturbing the peace of my neighbors in their homes, you said. This is the third time that these people have showed up at your house and protest. Is there nothing that can be done on a preventative measure that can say Look, you're not allowed to do this. This is a neighborhood. This isn't just your home or your neighbor's homes. These air their Children. This is this is a place where they should feel safe. They've never had a count or anything like this before, And these air talks that they're gonna have now going forward is what can be done to prevent this. We're one. It's one big circle here, And ironically, there's a lot of cops in circles and I've had Plenty of offers of protection and things like that from, you know bikers for Trump to you Name it If I would have taken up the offers I had. I would've had about 3000 people in my yard ready that just shut these guys out. But that just leaves the further violence. And then you could see that Okay. Once these guys get pushed out of here, then the lawsuits start against me. If anything happened, in fact, they fabricated assault That happened. One of the guys. One of the protestors are motorcycle, and he tipped over and fell and he tried to claim he was assaulted. Call the sheriff's department and the video of the neighbor's camera revealed that he dumped the bike on itself on a bone. They charged him with quality reporting a crime. So they're looking debate someone to put their hand and things like this. This is just how they are. And you know, I think that it's a Saturday it whole Saturday afternoon is 80 some degrees and you could be doing All kinds of other things. This is where their focus is. How how Much theater is happening here and what a dangerous game is being played. If if John Thompson is going to be cordial to you in public to your face, but then is quickly able to go and turn it on. The way that he did putting it lightly, You know, First off, you know, are the individuals that are protesting with him? Are they aware I'm not as and I know this is more of a rhetorical question. But like, are those individuals aware that he's nice to you in private, But yet he's going to go and say all these inflammatory things without merit like I'm wondering if if he loses any credibility within the protesters eyes because it is it's all political theatre. It's all it's all stunting and you're not the first person to go and say that which to me makes it even worse because he's really Being an incredibly dangerous game for his own self gratification, And it's not that zone even genuine him for his own grandson. Even genuine, I it false and he and he's acting exactly you see me enough times. Ah. You know, And you know that he's here He is running and, ironically in the neighborhood, I grew up with the side of ST Molitoris running. There's a very responsible candidate appears on the other side running against him, But he's a Republican, and I don't know if people went there anymore. He's very long order guy. So we'll see. And it's funny on how the hypocrisy of the party where's the condemnation from governor walls? You're not saying it was gonna be my that was going to my final question for you, Mr Kroll and theirs. Are you Are you surprised, too disappointed at all? Now what? None of the endorsements again. Jealousy, the hypocrisy of all of them that this is Let's not forget They pride themselves on being the tolerant left. You will be safe. You know, I I'm sorry that you have to go through all of this. I'm sorry that your wife and your family you have to experience this and go through all this. And I hope I hope that same her head's cooler heads start to prevail sooner rather than later and that you can find some sanctuary, at least in your own home, okay? Thanks, guys. I think they woke up from people that this is not the direction they want a country to go, so hopefully it blows up on him. You have me absolutely found. That's everyone on then take care, just political theater. I'm sorry. John. John John Thompson is nothing but he's.

"Our never here and let's start at the phone's champion. I hear you know a little something. Something about Carl Coleman. Well, listen, I three things I'd like to offer. First of all Um The rail Porter and Karen Hall, Dr. All are not only two of the finest people That comes from our area, but they'll never say it themselves. But you may or may not know your listeners may not know these are two of the finest two of the greatest basketball players. Never come out of this area. Karen Hall played at UNLV, which is a top level as you can get. People may not know derail Porter's one of the top 10 basketball players to ever play at Pitt University, and that's not an evening line up to crack. Trust me, so to great people doing a great thing for a great guy. Secondly, I will tell you this. Derail noses. Dr. Ho may not know Carl Coleman. Sculptured my beginning, as you know, and some people may know I operated champion Enterprises and re ran the Connie Hawkins Summer Basketball League for 40 years in this city, and Carl Coleman was the person Who set me down year one. As I began the process and men toward me on what to do how to do who to go to and who to avoid. Had it not been for Col. Coleman I may not have ever started. Connie Hawk and Summer Basketball League, which became one of the top 10 in the nation. So Carl Coleman deserves all the accolades he can get, as well as his family. His wife is Children. We're all supportive. Of everything that he did, and I'm proud to say shortly before he died. Mr. Coleman was on the sidelines at the county office league used to come by and watch the league. I always thought that was great for the guy that helped me get started. Was there as we were ending and lastly, offer this Lynne and this is just a little bit off the subject matter, but I know. Ah, Mayor producer has taken a heavy hit lately, and I just wanted to offer this. I've been operating community service program since 1975 and I've seen a lot of politicians and a lot of People in charge of operations. Well, Peduto has been one of those people as far as I'm concerned who was stepped up every time we've asked Literally, literally, not just his person. But the financial and staff support has always been their force during his run, and there's not a there's not a better guy on the planet Rich Fitzgerald. Who has constantly done for us what he said he's gonna do. And I know I'm just one of many organizations that can echo that. So this one to put it out there. As you just alluded to its easy to offer, comment on space spoken, It's easy to talk up all things. When generally, most people don't know what they're talking about, and they're only guessing repeating something long that they heard. But but We've got some. We got some good leadership in this city that air That I can speak to that have been doing a tremendous job and supporting community groups like ours. And J. Quigley, Mike Doyle, Jake cost of some of these guys who are really out there putting on the line, so I just want to get that out there. Well, and I appreciate that bill, and you know what? It's Ah, it's always easy to take the easy position. Uh, it's hard to take the unpopular position. It's hard to take the position that you're going to get the pushback from. And so this whole thing, this whole scenario that we're seeing play out right now. You know everyone is not going to be popular when it's all said and done, But sometimes you do have to take The unpopular position, So we just have to know that the great great Georgetown basketball coach John John Thompson once said. The thing that most people jump to first is conclusions. Meaning that they couldn't jump and get a rebound to save your lives. You know, most people don't know what they're talking about. Most people that complain they have not been in the fire Most people that want to down someone else that I have never Done anything on any level of achievement and the direction they're speaking. And it's almost always the case. And then you and I and those of us in leadership positions. You know, we we get it off. I've gotten I've gotten tons and it always comes because you can't please everybody and for those people that you don't please If they don't know the truth, they'll make up a lot. Absolutely. And they'll do it loudly. I gotta run. But always a pleasure, sir. Have a great afternoon. Traffic.

"I knew that politically it was important. How come not for John for Gulf and Western and the day before we left. I mentioned John Steele Gordon New York tomorrow. So what do you mean? Who's we I said and I said he's doll to go. I didn't PICK DONALD ZERO percent. Patrick Ewing I pick you. I said John I really appreciate that more than I could. Ever expressed but You know this is a corporation. There's certain protocols if you said I don't give a damn about that shit and I said Look I love you for that. I love your support but if I were to coach this process negotiate the deal. You've gotTa let me coach the game and I brought Donald Doll rated ad very much you know to to the meetings I can tell you I have a great story so as you know was the very first lottery player in the history of the NBA. They changed the rules created the draft lottery in one thousand nine hundred five and the seven teams at twenty three. That didn't make the ploughs went to lottery. The next won the lottery and I started thinking to myself. Wow this is a very unique situation. Yeah the richest team in lay. Who have won a total of forty six games over the past two years. They've been disaster. Wins that right to draft. Patrick Unions could be the savior of the franchise. What's appropriate to ask for the previous two years? The number one pick had been special players in eighty three a bit. Ralph Sampson. Who's a seven four center He got nine hundred sixty thousand zero for four years and eighty eighty four. Michael's Year Akeem. Olajuwon was the number one pick. Who's a phenomenally talented guy from university? Houston and he signed a deal for one point two million a year for six years. So I- everywhere. I would cars planes. You know buses thinking about what to ask Pasha and finally I came up with an idea and I wrote myself a mental myself and I you know what my ideas were. So one day dog caused me and his office. What is your question? Have you given any thought to what you get asked the Knicks Patrick Ewing? I said how given any thought about the only thing I've thought you know for the last month. You know this is like this is my breakthrough. John's pick me. And you know it's breakthrough and of course donald because of his ego thought that everybody picked the company because of his reputation and so So I walked in his off so I showed him where. We're going to ask the Knicks for now at the time the highest play player player in the history of the NBA was Kareem abdul-jabbar. Who's making exactly two million dollars a year for four years and in my mental. I to ask the next for a ten year deal for three million dollars a year. I'll always over starts laughing. I said Gosh I would give anything to be the New York Knicks. Would you walk into the office and asked me for thirty nine dollars for rookie? I should really like what would you say so and I say you know. He said I'd say when you stopped smoking whenever you spoken you know. Come see me. I'M GONNA make a counter this offers so outrageous So outside the scope of anything you know normal that You know just come back and I said well okay. So what would you say? If I told you that I saw you know Mr Bjork ex. I understand your position. You've had two amazing back to back years where you'll at twenty two games and twenty four games and you can explain to the fans of New York why the richest team the owned by Gulf and Western this enormous conglomerate can't afford to pay the first ever lottery pick enough money so he's going to go back to George town to get a graduate degree and go back into the draft picks here and you could explain to the fans while you couldn't sign and so it to me Andy and you. Obviously you worked in both. Donna was a pioneer in the seventies. And he was you know sorta stuck in the eighties. You SORTA past part time. Didn't have a lot of imagination. These deals and he was just going to go in and ask for a little bit more than one got so go up to New York for the first and like he a tip the knicks off. I make the first offer offer the thirty minutes for ten years and they basically David. You must be something else beyond like and so in the middle of the beating now. Let me backtrack a second. So six weeks out. Before the draft is won the lottery takes place. The next won a lottery Dave. The butcher remember publicist and the next. What the next day or two days later I got a call from God never heard of who is the head of marketing for Madison Square Garden named Jim Trucker and he called me up because he wanted to know if I would give the knicks permission. They said we're GONNA definitely Dr Patrick. This zero chance of knocking. Jeff Patrick can. We have permission to start right now and put his picture on the season ticket brochure for next year and I thought he was just laugh pulling my leg. This is a joke. I mean why on earth you want to start so and so I said sure so in the middle of the beatty. We hit this. This you know impasse over the thirty dollar deal. The next basically laugh at me who walks off announced but Jim trucker had tell he had to tell us up to two Kroenke who was the head guy and so I said excuse me like who is that guy so. That's Jim Tracker. I saw Jim come back here for a second question. How the season ticket sales doing always say God? They phenomenal in the last seven weeks. We've sold six million dollars in tickets. I said really so interesting so I said too. I said to Jack Up. You know you know you're right. I think three nine probably is a little bit on normal. I mean we should be asking you for eight million six billion for the season tickets. He's already delivered. And the two million of these probably worth as a player and so it was just m deployed telling. The story is that you know John John Thompson who I love you know. He's one of my dear friends very by literally by heroin. I mean he's probably had more of an impact on me than any other band -cluded by on Father I've learned so much with him about human nature and just a lot of different things. He's just so bright and he empowered me And change my career. Because he he did require that I'd be the number two guy more so k. Been Assistant Coach of in my book. Your head coach. Let me give you the secret to the story. A great story a year later. We got invited to me. Johnny Dawkins. Who's the national player of the year from through who went to high school knocking in Washington and doll couldn't go so is final word of encouragement. He says to me look. I can't make it like. Don't fuck this up. Just make sure that we can have a follow. Be Wash which is a great way to you know. Give you confidence. So I went down there. And they had a screen they set up with John. Wiley start knows. The famous law. Professor of Sports Law Coach K. Like the head of the school and I think Chris Kennedy and I was there. It was the first I join you. It was the first right. It was the first being ever. It was one to worst beatings ever had. Because you trying to say. Let's talk about the draft and say oh. Excuse me what do you think about? Intangible depreciation or real and then you talk at like after on ten minutes. I'm looking at it was done. He was just done board. You know it had no flow to the beauty and he really didn't want to come back and visit us but he wanted a with vantage which became octagon silently biased. And Mike. We'd never had a client or do whatever. Mike thought that he should at least take a second meeting so he comes up to Washington and meets with US adults office. Now at the time I had a young Jamaican secretary you may remember name. Yes person she by twenty two years old and I gave her a standing order. That if Michael Jordan Patrick Ewing John Thompson or my she shefty ever calls. Don't put him on hold. Don't tell them that they're finally. Let me reading decide if I were to take the call. So we're in the office. Doll Johnny Dawkins and John Thompson calls me to take me lunch and my secretaries in a desert because two of the people on this list of four John Tops on the phone and by sheriff's office. She just she she parishes know what the deal is. She tells John Gosh. Coach David Comes K. Like what do you want me to do is out on health? And I didn't know he call them in the meeting with trying to try to repair the damage from the media. Duke and all of a sudden without any warning. I wish there was a knock on that. There was a crash on the door. John Thompson walks in with Mary Feminine and he goes right to johnny sees Johnny. You do Johnny from the Kid who's elementary school at the Boys Club. Nicer Johnny. How you doing fine sir? How you doing great because a lot of Mike and he turns Johnny points to be the guy. I love this guy. If you go with them a really take care of do a great job promise you'll Garad deters doll and he points that he said this guy. I don't like this guy like fuck this guy and he walks out as always said and I was like the Honda I turn my is a I ever do Guy Trung son and I said coach. I promise you add zero idea. John was coming in. This is sort of Baresi. Looks at me like crazy and he goes David. You have to Polish. There's not a human be alive could have induced John Thomson's do digested. If he didn't WanNa do it I mean I know shots John Wall wallflower and yeah. That's that that the deal. I do club so so. John has been an amazing supporter. You're right and he recommended a virtually every player at Georgetown except to you know the entire time that he was there and you know I. It's amazing so I mean having Michael Patrick back to back two years before James Worthy and you sprinkle in James Lofton Crystal Doc. It's like I. We had an amazing run between eighty two and eighty six. That probably never had again. Yeah so interesting. And we'll get back to Michael but just on the Thompson thing couple things that really shocked sort of impressed me to no end and I don't know if I shared all this with you but there was a time in my first year or two where I was doing stuff for Patrick Ewing and everyone talked about the brooding and ogre. Ish Patrick Ewing mean. And he's you know seven footer. Nobody likes Goliath. I came home one night. I had a message on my machine reading machine back then. Andrew. Andy This is no. I think he might said Mr Brandt. This is Patrick Ewing. I just had a real quick question. I really sorry to bother you. It won't take more than a minute and I hope you're having a good evening. You can call me anytime tomorrow and I saved that message. I'm like Oh my God. That's Patrick Ewing. And I think I was doing something for the family and his brother immigration. Perhaps but I'll never forget that. What a kind person was for the the image that people put on him and the other part of that is John this this guy that had such an influence on your career you let me handle some of the guys like David Wingate and David had some issues. We're getting in trouble and John would call me to periodically check in. What do you do this time? What are you and I remember John Thompson? Walking in my office and everyone knows how imposing is standing at my desk. And I'm like Oh my God what did I do and he said to me. You listen to me and I'm like Oh my God what is this? I don't want you to spend one more second worrying.
