Ohio Lt. Governor Under Fire After Tweets on COVID-19 Origin
"Ohio Lieutenant Governor John Houston, taking a step back from a tweet that he retweeted regarding the origin of the coronavirus. Here's that Retweeted, a story in which a former head of the CDC said on CNN that he believes covert 19 originated in a lab in Wuhan, China. Used, it said in the Retweet, so it appears it was the Wuhan virus. After all, there were a lot of critical posts on Twitter about Houston's post. The lieutenant governor on Saturday posted another tweet in which he said he was referring to the Chinese government. A government, he said, is a government of oppression that imprisons people and steals our technology. He was referring to the government, he said, not Chinese people.
Whitney Houston's national anthem still the gold standard 30 years later
"The Super Bowl this year is all about who is the greatest of all time. But there was a Super Bowl performance 30 years ago, which may never be topped. CBS is anthem. Mason looks back. It's the gold standard for national anthem performances. Whitney Houston's rendition before Super Bowl 25 at Tampa Stadium. The year was 1991. The Gulf War had just begun. 27 year old Whitney Houston, who'd already had eight number one singles was dominating the charts. Houston's musical director, Rickey Minor produced the arrangement. I went to the school of Whitney and everything that I've done since then has been With my doctors degree from the University of Whitney. She took her inspiration from Marvin Gaye. The first thing she said, was You know. Have you heard Marvin Gaye do the national anthem for the NBA All Star Game. He said. It's something about it that I feel like it would give me more time to really express these words and let them linger a little longer. So instead of Oh, say, can you see? It was old saved can use C minor took the version to the Florida Orchestra, which was tapped to accompany Houston at the game. They took notice of the tempo change right away. Everybody was a little taken aback. A little like what is this? It's so different. It was Mary Corbett, second year with the orchestra as a violinist. You play it before every concert, So we just have it memorized. So when we played this new arrangement, everyone is sort of like what's this? Houston later recorded the vocals in L. A. Minutes after hearing the accompaniment for the first time she listened Nodding her head. And then after hearing it one time, she said, Okay, I got it. Just once. One time. The Star Spangled Banner is not an easy song to sing. The range of It is really tricky because it starts low, but it ends up high. Oh, sir, you know, And then it's the Rockets red glare. You have have to have that passion in there. There's some video of a few singers where they didn't get it quite in the right place. And the Rockets red glare sounded like like a like a rooster crowing. I mean, But the NFL was concerned about Houston's version. I think that they just thought it was too different to do the Super Bowl. We're at war, People will hear this and say that's not my national anthem Operation Desert Storm had just begun in the Middle East NFL executives asked Whitney's manager, her father, John Houston. Get her to change the performance, but minor pushed back. I said to John Houston, either I'm doing this or you have to call Whitney and say that you're gonna pull me off of it. Because this is what I believe is the best representation that will give her wings to fly with knees, version one out and she didn't just fly. She soared. She always said that was one of the most special moments in your life. It really changed the tone of the national anthem and I miss her every day. It still gives me goose bumps. I just got these bumps to listening to those last notes. That was gorgeous, really one of the only few times at a game I ever remember standing up and crying while singing the national anthem by myself well, with Holly in the in the Living room. And I still almost teared up again. It was just tremendous for the time.

"In one Not really coming into great American on coming up with two o'clock under the leadership of James, a British subject now an American citizen, his idea I support it. There is rumblings among the faithful. The so called Republican Party that AH are good Governor Mike DeWine and John Houston are on the wrong path. That likely for a re election In two years, you could win reelection, The problem might be getting out of a primary against a rock ribbed Republican, saying the government shutdown went far too far. When you have governor Wittmer and other governors being ordered by their supreme courts to stop what they're doing, because it's illegal unconstitutional, since it has to be up to the Legislature with the executive branch. To enforce the law that had been passed. Then you have many, many courts in Ohio, saying the same thing that the governor, although well intended Is not following well known legal precepts, which is a separation of power among the three branches of government. And so under the leadership. I'm going toe to 07. I'm on opening up for a fast break for like 2020 25 minutes to see how popular the actions of the governor have been since March. Three things. One. We had no idea in January, February March, April May how serious covert 19 was going to be was going to flame out like a tch one n one was like the Hong Kong flu or the German flu or the Asian flu. Or the swine flu. What kind of flu do we got? Here is a viral infection, The World Health Organization said in March, 3 to 4% would die that those who contracted it 3 to 4%. Which is terrible. That would translate to about 2.2 million dead Americans where seven months into it, a 74 year old guy in the White House Contracts Cove in 19 in three days later, he walks out seemingly in pretty good shape. So American businesses wherever they may be located. Coming to Newport, Westchester, Cincinnati Hidden Valley. Dealing with three things. One the fear of covert 19, which is a motivating force, among about one third of our population, even today, where many have a fear Of covert 19 number two. The government reaction to covert 19, which is not even handed. It's often overboard, especially when Children under the age of 18 or not at risk by any objective measurement, Then the third thing happening. Was the riots. And I would note that Derek Calvin, the police officer in Minneapolis, made a $1 million bond today and is out and last night. In many cities, there is more rioting not covered by the media. The media will cover covert 19. Because that's the one vehicle to get trump out of office. They will not cover the other issues in this campaign and covert 19 will be gone within six months or a year in amount of what we do but socialism. Bordering on communism shall remain if we're like Biden and Kamala Harris, who's to the left of Senator Bernie Sanders, So if you want socialism and communism, you finally have a candidate saying Vote for me, and that's Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. And believe me, I know Trump has his peccadilloes. But it's a far sight better than Venezuela. Let's continue with more nose in sports or next. Then after two o'clock the fast break A verdict. A flash poll on Mike DeWine. 1 30 home Your Reds news radio 700 wlw. News, traffic and Weather News Radio 700 w ell delegate Cincinnati Presidents Corona virus. Either way, His wife and staff are all negative, as is Lieutenant Governor John Houston. Hamilton County is now out of the red on the Koven 19 risk map, and that's a good thing. I haven't heard a wind calls Hamilton County a success story in a model for the state now in the less severe orange Zone from red. The change in level doesn't directly affect anybody. Except it's a sign that Hamilton County is moving in the right direction. Think what we're seeing here is a testament to the residents of Hamilton County. We've begun to take mask wearing much more seriously. Every time I'm out and about I'm seeing much greater compliance with people wearing masks in public. Ohio gov. tests negative for COVID-19 hours after positive result
"Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has received conflicting results from to Corona virus screenings. DeWine tested negative for the disease Thursday, hours after a rapid test administered by the White House before his planned meeting with President Trump. Came back positive. Statehouse correspondent carrying Castle reports that the wine says he'll be tested once again. So headache is not anything that unusual. So besides that, I feel well. He was tested again in Columbus, along with his wife and staff members. All came back negative. Wine who has asthma, has held his covert press conferences away from reporters to avoid contact with crowds. He issued a statewide mask mandate two weeks

"All right. What's going on this morning? Get to the street house at 10 o'clock. Greg Testerman will be speaking to about well. Now we have the state order in masks, too, as well as the citywide order and how that affects the county. She'll be here 10 giving her live weekly address. We'll have it for you on 700 WW. Scott Sloan show straight of 10 o'clock. In the meantime, you just heard. Lieutenant Governor John Houston on the show with me, comment email about how we're going to force this order and you know it comes down for seven counts, including Hamlin Butler in Montgomery County. In that you're gonna be required to wear a mass starting at six o'clock tonight and outdoors when social distancing is not possible, So any indoor location that is not a residence or home, you have to wear a mask. You have to maintain six feet or more social distances. And if you're waiting for riding your driving public transportation, whatever it might be uber taxi ride sharing vehicles, whatever. You also have to mask up. OK, so how do we enforce it? Because any time you have a rule, it has to be enforced. Good question. Sheriff Richard Jones will be on with Willie at 12 o'clock today. Talking about why he said Don't call us Don't cut. Don't talk to us about two. I'm sure Don't call us Don't talk to us. We don't have time to do the CPD saying the same thing. All right. Well, if you have if you have an order that is largely an enforceable because God bless from the health department does not have enough time and personnel to be able to do this kind of stuff. Then what happens And I wonder, too when you hear those, maybe the mixed messages I don't know from law enforcement. Like, Well, then who the hell cares? What are they going to do? How am I going to get a ticket if they don't catch me? And now are we Are we in a worse spot where, but you look at the numbers and we seem to be doing while there's a spike. The chance of you contracting, covert and becoming problematic or you dying from it extremely small, and we've known that for a long time. That's not a problem personally, may is, like, all right, I gotta wear the mask for a while. It's uncomfortable. It's hot. My glasses fogged up, okay? If that's what that's what it takes. Fine. I'll do it. But you know the argument about whether we did but I think part for the you know if you're the belief, and I think a lot of people are that you know you got enforce laws because we're getting calls The newsroom. Sarah releases our point person on this, and she gives getting calls all morning of people calling to tell us about other people who are not wearing master man wearing masks inappropriately like not covering their nose. So we have those individuals out there. And if you can't enforce it. I don't want it. Forces don't have the means to enforce it. We spike again. And you say, Okay, we're locking everything down now like we did the last time. If you don't enforce it now, do you? Really? You just admitted you can't. How are you going to do this? If we have to lock it down for real again? 513749 7000 Jim in a cell. You're up. Thanks for checking in what you got. Yeah, I got, uh, this whole thing to me is ridiculous. All you gotta do is look back to 1968. This thing is that this thing is going to run its course. No matter what its nature, it's going to run its course. Until you get a vaccine. It's going to be here and nothing you do is going T change The fact Of what's gonna happen. It's going to run its course, just like it did in 1968 and the same amount of people that passed away back then, with a much lesser population in the United States is going to be the same amount of death. That's gonna happen with your own about a few things a little different than than flu because this is a different This is a different violence. This is a whole different vector and everything else But the idea here is that, you know. Hey, we're waiting on a vaccine. We're probably going according the experts were probably going to wind up developing herd immunity before that happens because this is so fast moving and spread. And Yeah, Look, how many people have it to friends of mine had didn't know they had They got tested the work and I like what you already had it now like we did. Had no idea whatsoever. So me and you might have already had it Yet. There's other people out there that, unfortunately, sadly are young and healthy and get it and they went up dying. So we don't really know. I think the pathology of that now that how that'll come together, but Your point is well taken. I think that way. Don't know that the thing is is okay. We develop her immunity. It's always the woman got how long that lasts or how long it takes. We don't know, but we'll probably wind up getting that before a viable vaccine for this 11 other point, we didn't close anything in 1968. We just went. We just went through it and it ran its course. Yeah, And the only other thing I want to say is I heard Willie other day on the radio. And he has the reporter from Mansfield, Ohio on and that reporter said that he is getting calls from people of the relatives. I the heart attacks and other Other diseases and so forth. And if they have cove it when they die, But these people are calling in telling him that the death certificate said they died of cove it so I'm gonna look into that and see what the heck the story is on that So that's all I got. And I appreciate you know that you keep bringing up 1968 as well. That was the Hong Kong flu. And the Hong Kong flu was here and gone in four months because we developed a vaccine for that within four months, and Yeah, there was no lock down. There was anything like that because I realized that we didn't do it back then, and I wanted that was the flu. So we know we have dealt with flu pandemics before we never dealt with a Corona virus outbreak. Which is an entirely different type of thing. So you're going out the same step to say, But it's not. It's not the flu. Get a Corona virus. They're floor of different things. Yeah, You may get sick. You may die from it. If you want that That's about the extent of the comparison. It's a virus that makes you sick and could be deadly for some people. Yeah, he had about four months to develop a vaccine. You're good here. We don't have that luxury. So it's got to work its way through. And the point is that you let it work its way through and we developed herd immunity, But you do that through exposure. But you can't expose everybody at the same time because we become overwhelmed from hospital beds and ventilators.

"Is the Mark blazer show along with Josh? And I'd like to proudly welcome into the show are seventy s Ohio governor governor, Mike dewine and welcome to the show. Governor thank you for coming on today. Hey, mark. Thank you very much led to be on. So boy, I'm telling you you've hit the ground running this week. And it has been it's been a whirlwind for you talk a little bit about taking the reins of Ohio now. Well, actually right now, we're we're up John Houston. I are in Detroit. We spent the day at the Detroit auto show talking to different companies, and you know, just trying to keep the relationship with people who employ an awful lot of folks in Ohio. So that's you know, it's something that we'll we'll do every year. And those relationships I think are important sometimes, you know, you can do things on the phone. But when you can do it in person, look people in the eye and talk and talk about whatever their challenges are and how much, you know, we want help them keep them, Ohio. Those are the probably the conversations you need to happen. You know in in in person. You don't see inaugural day was a great day. We had our family. They're all our kids all our grandkids. And it was just very personal very very special day. Hey, so I'd like to ask you then about the inauguration on on on Monday. You were obviously sworn in. And it was deny read this, correct? There were nine bibles that you actually took the oath on. Well, we did that you know, I've sworn in actually twice. I was sworn midnight right by actually became governor. And we did that at our home in shooter rope on our from from Columbus. And you know, we we have, you know, h h kids, and you know, friend was trying to thank you know, I'd like to give a bible each child. So that's when we started taking inventory, and she did, you know, we had she ended up with with nine bibles and east bible kind of had a history. For example. One was our our daughter Becca. He's a bible when she was a child is trials bible. We had one bible. I'm very little small bible. That was my my grandfather's grandfather little he was in World War One. He was in the navy in those days, the government must've issues, so he had his initial on there. So each bible, that's something different. And so Fran balanced though. She thought she a great job nine bible mop up any of them. I didn't knock it over. You know, our sun. Pat, swarming end. So it was a it was a real family a family of that. And you know, we had I think all but one branch was there and Oliver kids were there. Governor dewine. I actually I knew there had to be something behind the nine bibles because I was even making the joke. I was like I guess five bibles that's not enough. You gotta do nine or you're just not seeing. So I knew there was something there. Well, actually joked, I you know, we we did this the first time at midnight at our home. So we had family members area a few close friends, and I got up, and I said, you know, you may wonder about these bibles. So when you see? You know, Fran holding nine bibles transplant. Explain to you. Why there's nine bibles. And I said, you know, this sort of typical Mike and Mike and to one one not enough or not. You know, it's like like kids we have a kid. So, you know, every everything and. Never never enough. I guess fantastic. We had fun with that. And it, you know, meaningful for us in a meaningful. But now, you know, we're we're off to work yesterday was at children's hospital in Columbus nationwide. Children's and made an announcement about a program that we want a significantly expanded. That is reaching reaching kids early early in their life really many times before the showers born trying to reach out to women who for any number of reasons might be at risk because of a drug problem or just just. Trying to make sure they're hooked up with the right medical care. Attrition and then help them. After after the child is born in is a program that works, really. Well, we're only reaching very very small number of of of children, and the whole idea is to make sure that that child when he or she gets to kindergarten. You know that they're starting law. We've got kids who come into kindergarten there. So so far behind who? Absolutely no fault of their own these poor kids. It's not their fault at all. But it's tough for them to ever catch up. So we announced the expansion of that program is we thought it was appropriate to do it it shows hospital yesterday. So yeah, a lot of things going on. And you know, we spend another part of the day or for tomorrow, we spend the night here in Detroit. Now, you've got meetings in the morning and then head back to Ohio. Yeah. I read you actually are slated to meet with General Motors. Ceo, Mary Barra tomorrow is that is that an accurate story that I read eight o'clock, we we had that meeting. And of course of great concern is Lordstown tour. In the Mahoning valley. And you know, they've announced the closure, and we again, sometimes these meetings, you need to have these meetings in person, you hate this average your personal relationship. And so I felt it was important to do that. And so we're we're gonna sit down with her in the morning. All right. I'd like to get your thoughts on the partial government shutdown that has reached historic. Unfortunately, a historic length right now. Well, not good. I don't think anybody can be very happy about this. You know, this thing gets worked out. You know, this is something governor, I really can't do do a whole lot about. But you know, we wanted to try to be helpful in certainly name. Anyway, we can we know that you know, we're starting to see the impact. And and there's days goes on. We're going to see more and more the impact on Ohio workers who are caught up in this. Absolutely no fault of their own. You said the best is yet to come fro high winds. I like that can you tell me exactly org may give me an example on hopefully, what actually will be actually helping this to happen. Well, it's really came in part of my speech when I was talking about the future. And I told the members of the general assembly who were there and and said to my fellow highlands. There's some of the things that we're going to be doing. We're going to ask the people of the state to do in the legislature to do. You know, you won't see your results overnight. I mean, just you and I were talking a moment ago about you know, reaching a very early early age. Well, that's going to have you do it. Right. And you get the kid on on a good pathway that's going to impact that child for their lifetime. So, you know, I don't know what the average life expectancy for child today would be, but we would anticipate child could live ninety one hundred years. So think about that that's a hundred years that child's life is going to be impacted. They're going to have a better headstart better opportunity to be productive members of society. So I, you know, so when I was talking about that the best is yet to come. I, you know, I think a lot of what we do is. We gotta look look to the future. And we've got to deal with drug epidemic that we have. We'll work on that by again education k through twelve every year something in the curriculum to help that child not go down the pathway of of addiction. And so a lot of what we're doing is is future oriented. But that's you know, that's I think how we set the course for a better Ohio for our kids and our grandkids. All right. We're talking to governor Mike dewine. And Finally, I'd be remiss governor. If I didn't actually ask you and get your thoughts on former governor John casick becoming a contributor on CNN any thoughts on this. Well, I I I know that that was somewhat anticipated. I think we all kind of speculated that you know, that that that that might a tour John had a show before you remember in the heartland does on Saturday and in on FOX. So, you know, I think that's something that we'll give him platform. And if you Munaf to you know, to focus on different issues are seventieth governor, Mike dewine, and congratulations to you officially now and to you and Fran and your family, and it looks like it's going to be a fun for years. And and I'm very excited about it. And I couldn't be happier that you called into the show. I appreciate it. Well, look forward to being on again. Thanks for inviting me, I appreciate it. Absolutely. Thank you governor..
