"Odyssey storage presents big time baseball with MLB insider John Heyman and former major leaguer Tony gwyn junior. Welcome into another episode of big time baseball. I'm your host Tony Gwynn junior alongside my partner John haman and John's been a long time man. We haven't done this together in a bit. I know it's great to be back with you, Tony. I had some free sweet things happen this past week. Let's start with Miguel Cabrera reaching 3000 hits. He becomes the 33rd player in baseball history to reach the mark. This is one of the best right handed hitters. I've had a chance to play against. And I feel like I've said that the last couple of years, one being Albert Pujols, the other being Miguel Cabrera and it fits. It really fits a lot. So I just want to get your thoughts on how you feel about Miguel Cabrera reaching this milestone. Yeah, I mean, I loved it. I love the guy, terrific individual, incredible hitter, just a hitting savant. I'm with you, one of the greatest writers of all time. And now in 3000 heads to do that with 500 home runs, that is not easy. I mean, only 7 players now have done that. So 33 got to 3000 hits, which is an amazing accomplishment. And I'm not sure when we're going to see that again, looking at the totals and we have a lot of great young players playing, but it just shows you how difficult 3000 hits is, I'm just not sure. I mean, you look at even looking at Mike Trout, he's like halfway there. You know, is he really going to get another 1500 hits? It ain't easy, but to do that with 500 home runs to me, that's just icing on the cake just an amazing, amazing player and congratulations. To Miguel Cabrera, one of my favorites. Without a doubt. Without a doubt, he's always been one of my favorite to watch. He's one of the few guys that, along with Albert Pujols, from the right hand side, that could use the whole entire baseball field from line to line. He could hit and he had power from lying to line. The other thing, he's in a group of three guys that have hit have had 3000 hits, 500 home runs, and all did it while maintaining a career average above 300. The other two guys, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays. I mean, when you're in an elite group like that, there's there really isn't an argument for you not being amongst the very, very best to ever play this game. Absolutely. I mean, you should be unanimous. We have had one player of unanimous, and that was a relief pitcher, which was interesting. But, you know, I mean, I voted for him, obviously he's well deserving the greatest reliever of all time, not knocking it. I'm glad he's unanimous, but there's always, there's one in every crowd, almost every crowd, you know, obviously griffey didn't get three votes. Jeter didn't get one vote, but I hope we've weeded out that one or two in every crowd. You know, obviously Miguel Cabrera is an all time great and all time great should go in right away and as a unanimous pick. Yeah, no doubt about it. It's hard, I think people forget, this kid, this guy was an athlete when he first came up to the big leagues. I remember his first home run he went dead center for a walk off Homer, but he could play some third base. And you know, obviously as he's got no, he's gotten a little bigger. Third base wasn't necessarily in the cars, but again, this is one of the greatest hitters. Greatest players of all time to ever grace the field. The other thing that popped up last night. And this is usually pops up once a year. We see an explosion like this, but cows Warburg had just had enough in his last of the game. Angel Hernandez behind a play had rung him up on some awesome bad calls in the previous ABs. And he absolutely lost it. It's one of the best explosions on an umpire that I think we've seen in quite some time. Yeah, I love the hand gestures. I don't know. I'm watching you right now as we're talking about it. They're showing it again. On MLB network, fantastic, schwarber, a great job, love it. You know, that call was clearly wrong, but it wasn't as bad as the one to Segura, 6 inches, which I think 6 inches inside there. That was 6.47 to be exact. I think that was the worst call of the year. Yeah. And I think on Twitter, I saw he was 85% correct on both strikes. That's not good. In fact, that's the worst of the year. I don't think it's the worst of all time. Some are worse, but you know, you mentioned, as we talked earlier, is that he's inconsistent. You know, I mean, we had noticed him yet this year and now all of a sudden with that brutal effort, you know, he's back in the news, angel Hernandez is and you know, he is capable of having good games here and there. You know? But I mean, this was bad. And I know I got a huge, huge Twitter reaction. You know, there's a lot of things you tweet on. Twitter are just ignored, but I tweeted a sources angel Hernandez, misses the E on I charts. I never gotten a bigger reaction, I am now, I'm following it minute by minute. 22,000 likes. 22,000 likes. I think when I tweeted that Garrett Cole was going to the Yankees, I only got 14,000 likes. So it's bad that I keep track, but I mean, people do not do not appreciate his umpire. That is funny. I know funny. That's funny. Thank you. That's a good one. Yeah, no, angel certainly didn't have a good night. And it has a tendency. And listen, and baseball and Jared, this is not just angel. When an empire is having a bad day and his bad day is not necessarily a few calls, but or even calling a specific pitch consistently. It's the inconsistency that drives players nuts. And it makes the game harder. Both for the pitcher and the hitter because if they don't know what the zone is, they're basically like, they're trying to, they're trying to figure out how to get strikes. And if an umpire is inconsistent, as angel was last night, it could lead to an episode like that. All right, let's jump in to the standings in the different divisions around illegal. We'll start with the AL east. I was part of what you're Yankees. When we make these in Blue Jays, they're both ten and 6 tied at the top. The first American League east. And I think the Yankees are playing some good baseball, along with the Blue Jays, although Yankees had a little episode a couple days ago with their fan base at just completely, I don't know what had gotten into them, but they decided after the walk off win that they were going to throw trash at the players. This was after another incident in which the twins left Fielder ran into the wall seemed to be a little bit shaken up, their center fair to straw took some issue with it and had some words. I mean, some close up words. He climbed a fence to get his words off. And then that proceeded the trash being thrown as the Yankees walked off that wind. Thankfully, you had some class and Stanton and judge going out to try to calm that fan base down, but listen, I know the.

"Decker with me as always the one the only John Heyman John man, how are you doing? It's been weekend one of Major League Baseball. We are now going into week two. We've had some surprises to start the year. We've had some young phenoms take over the league. I mean, it's an exciting time to be a baseball fan. John Howard you doing, man? Absolutely. I mean, I love the young kids. Leading off with Bobby witt, who had that game winning hit his first game. I mean, Julio Rodriguez is going to be a big star. Lots of great young players, great time to be a baseball fan. Really, and you mentioned Bobby witt junior, he's already living up to the hype, he's already your first number one favorite to be the AL rookie of the year. And normally you don't really look at rookies of the year predictions before the season starts, but there is just such an influx of incredibly talented young players right now. You mentioned Bobby witt junior, but there's a guy over there in Cleveland for the guardians right now. Absolutely demolishing everyone, Quan, not to quote rod tidwell of Jerry Maguire, but it's all about the quad right now in Cleveland. The guy has been, I mean, he's got a 7 50 on base percentage. He's gotten on base 18 of his first 24 plate appearances. I've never seen a start like this in my life. Have you? I don't think anybody has it's a record star to get on base 18 times in your first 5 games. He broke the Jay Bruce record. I mean, Stephen Quan is not been a household name. I mean, I think he was drafted somewhere in the first 5 or 6 rounds, but not right at the top. I don't think anybody was expecting him to be a star right off the bat like this. So to speak and there were 7 50 on base or so 800, whatever it is right now, incredible Oregon state product is the Nick madrigal is and he's also a high on base guy puts his back on the ball and it's interesting that they turned out a couple of guys like this, but Quan off to an amazing start. Yeah, it's staggering, John. It really is. And boy, you know those packed ten slash pack 12 kids like me. We just get on base, ladies and gentlemen. On top of that, other guys are breaking into the league for the first time. Say a Suzuki, two homers the other day, three so far. He's showing life over there on the north side of Chicago. Man, it's just new faces, new names. I feel like we have a whole new Major League Baseball on our hands. Yeah, I mean, see you Suzuki, not the surprise because I mean, did sign for something like 75, 85. I think it was $85 million, comes obviously loved him. It looks like a winner early. I mean, obviously the small sample size, but he's been absolutely terrific, looking at the numbers in Japan. I mean, look like it's going to be a star. I mean, you know, the rep is the thoughts are that all the Japanese pitchers have done better than the hitters, but I mean, let's face it. Some of the hitters have been absolute superstars. Hideki matsui, terrific hitter, ichiro, Hall of Fame type showe Otani, was MVP last year, arguably the best player in the game. So you're looking at his record in Japan, I think Suzuki should be a star also good defensively, but what a terrific hitter he is. Also some great other things happening throughout the league if you were watching on Monday evening or Tuesday evening, I should say. Brett Phillips, there was a young girl over at the Tampa Bay Rays game, huge Bret Phillips fan, but by the way, knowing Brett Phillips, if you are not a Bret Phillips fan, you're wrong. You should be a bread filler. He's the greatest person alive. Well, Brett Phillips yesterday homeward while Chloe, who has been battling cancer before the game gave Brett Phillips wristbands. He wore them homered and what the best part about the Homer is Chloe was being interviewed as Brett Phillips was homering. It was just, it's every reason you love baseball. It was incredible, just to see that on the replay as I did, I'm with you on Phillips. I mean, not just the airplane in the World Series that was fantastic, but I'm an E has fun out there. I think that's his marketing scheme is baseball's fun and that one really works on me. I know a lot of people try marketing and I'm not easily marketed, but you know that was great. He's a terrific personality. Turned out to be a very good player with a raise. And I think everybody's running for him, particularly Chloe, and that was just a beautiful scene and to see him make that home run while she was being interviewed. Fantastic. Maybe the highlight of the week. Absolutely. Another massive highlight of the week, we're talking about first and Major League Baseball, Alyssa nacken. Broke another historic barrier on Tuesday night becoming the first woman to coach on the field in a Major League Baseball game coaching first base. I think there is a photo that is going to last the test of time and that's gonna be this photo of Eric Hosmer going over and shaking her hand before the inning. I mean, I think we're even downplaying what a monumental thing this is with Major League Baseball right now, bringing her in, not to mention, please forgive me. I'm forgetting her name right now, but managing for the Rachel..

"Right. Right. Yeah, it's incredible. But yeah, I'm a big fan of Correa. Yeah, I don't see him as LeBron of the game and like you said Facebook's just not built that way. No, it's a sport. It's not him. He's a great, great player, but there is no player laying Mickey Mantle, I saw a play, you guys didn't see him. He wasn't the LeBron. It doesn't. It's not that kind of a sport. I mean, it might be if you can send up the same guy to a bat for every at bat. But you gotta wait, you turn in baseball. It's a different game. A name that is out there right now that everyone seems to be on. And John, I'd like to, I'd like some insight here because I think he's a hell of a ball player. I do think there's a great market for him, but I was surprised with how many teams are seem to be interesting and startling Marte. What insight can you give me on him and why so many teams see him as a fit? Yeah, I think there are two things there. A huge finish. He was fantastic for Oakland. As he was for Miami, he had a great first half with Miami. I think even better in some regard for Oakland, I mean, for a while, he'd stolen all these bases and never been thrown out. And even the a's, the money bullies, I think, appreciated, not that they're going to resign him, they're not. Obviously, they're trading off pieces. But it's this great platform year and it's the fact that in this market he happens to be a unique play. There aren't great center fielders and there are a lot of outfielders, right? I mean because the autos can fordo. Obviously, Garcia, you know, Peterson, solaire, you know, there is a ton of good to very good outfielders out there to get. And but in terms of schwarber, in terms of center field, there's one that stands alone. I would say it's the same with catcher, Yan Gomes is really by far and away the best catcher who's on the fridge and market. I think all the catchers are going to do okay because they're just the need outweighs the supply. But he's by far and away the best catcher is he is superstar. No. But Marte is both going for him. He is a big star and his unique player on this market being a very good center Fielder. And, you know, we see Texas is involved in Houston, Phillies, mets, Yankees, Miami, but I heard their offer was a bit light for him. They seem to be concentrating on getting their own pitcher Alcantara done and they probably will get that done. They have terrific pitching. They need hitting some way somehow, but, you know, you know, there was that one year with the previous regime dived in and spent money like crazy and tried to spend even more money in Miami and then they gave a huge deal to Stanton, but I don't think looking at the books now more reasonably, I don't see that any regime going forward doing that in Miami. On top of that, John, another name that's out there in the market right now, which is very unique, and I actually do have a question for you because I do not know this answer 100%. And I'm going to quote a tweet from you and it's from MLB's John Heyman. MLB has notified our clubs that outfielder, Sia Suzuki will be posted as of tomorrow morning, signing deadline 5 p.m. Eastern Time Monday, With a potential work stoppage happening on December 1st, what does that do to Suzuki? Yeah, you wonder. We're not sure. You know, we're continuing now until the work stoppage, but, you know, that certainly throws a crimp in things. I will say this, you know, if they're able to work it out, the timing is okay. This is a terrific player four time all star. 5 time best 9 player, three time gold glove, right handed hitting outfielder. And, you know, for a while, there was this thought that the Japanese players coming over. The pitchers were better than the hitters, but I mean, look, Otani is, you know, at all timer at this point, I mean, an MVP winner, you've got ichiro Suzuki, who's going to be Hall of Famer 3000 hits and you got to do it. Exactly. So you got three that became huge, huge stars, so I don't think we can think that anymore. And this is a guy who was in the gold medal team got to its final game against the U.S. and really terrific player only 27 years old. I've heard all the West Coast teams are in. Of course that means everybody but Oakland. They're not in anything, but in Texas has been linked to him as well. So we hope they figure it out, but you're right. It does still crimp into things and I wish I could give you a real answer on this, but there's just so many unknowns. I know it's crazy. And it's a funny thing because I get asked this question. I've been getting this asking this question about a dozen times since you posted that tweet. And the truth is, I don't know the answer. I don't know. I can speculate and give you my thoughts, but at the end of the day, December 1st, it's going to be a hell of a wrench in the system. And I will tell you this. And I hate that I'm bringing this saying this twice in the show when I brought up a career earlier, but I also have played against Suzuki in the world baseball classic. And he is one hell of a baseball player would be an incredible addition to any team in the major leagues, especially on the West Coast. There are teams that immediately come to mind. The team that first jumps out to me would be Seattle, maybe it might be the ichiro Suzuki proximity, but it just seems like it would be a really good fit for a team that's right on the cusp. Yeah. Seattle, San Francisco, I've heard, as well. So they're definitely matches versus Suzuki terrific two way player. And so he played against your team Israel. He wasn't psyched out by the mentor on the bench, I guess, huh? No, no, we lost that game. He seemed perfectly fine with the mention on the bench and you know, at that point, the lights had gone down on us at that point. We dropped the game before the Netherlands unfortunately. We beat them. We beat them the week before, but we lost the Netherlands and we had to beat Japan in the Tokyo dome. And if you've ever been to the Tokyo dome and you're going to play against the Japanese national team, you do not have home field advantage. I can't stress this enough. No. They have it. Well, I thought your team over performed. You did a great job. The whole team did a great job. It was a great story. You had a lot of fun and the match was your idea. So mazel tov for you for that. And really was a terrific story and, you know, if you had beaten Japan, it probably would have been like a buster Douglas Tyson result. I love the fact that you said we over performed. We completely disagree. We thought we were going to honestly go to the finals. We were laughing when ESPN named us 200 to one to win the champion. The tournament, we just started laughing like this. Anyone here not realize, yeah, we're a bunch of four a guys, but we're incredibly good and we're about to beat up on all the stars. It was hilarious. And then we went up and we beat Korea. We beat Chinese Taipei. We'd beat Cuba. We beat the Netherlands when we beat the Netherlands. That was when everybody started to really notice saying uh oh. And it was a lot of fun. You know what, it's a time in my life that I will never not look back on with anything but the greatest amount of fondness. But getting back to this last thing, we're gonna finish it up with this and that is simply this. We talked about these teams we talked about the market. And we did talk about the big name teams. But we're going to talk about really the top dogs, which in our in my mind, the top dogs is a short list of teams..

"Odyssey sports presents big time baseball with MLB insider John heman and former major leaguer Tony Gwynn junior. We have a newly crowned champ in Major League Baseball. You're listening to big time baseball, welcome in. I'm Tony gwyn junior alongside my partner, John Heyman. On the docket today, we're gonna talk about this braves World Series when what it means. If you get a chance to see the parade, some craziness going on there will always get into Heyman's inside corner quite a deep free agency class this year. We're going to touch on. And we most certainly will talk about the Hall of Fame, Barry Bonds, his last year on the ballot. Will he get enough votes to get in? I'll get a behind the curtain look with John Heyman who has a vote in this we'll talk to him about it. First, but first, let me let me welcome in John. John how you doing today? I'm good. How are you doing, Tony? I am doing well, baseball season has come to an end. I don't know that we expect it to be crowning the brazes champ, but the way they played down the stretch, it really isn't that much of a surprise. No, I mean, they were great in the second half. No, I didn't expect it. Maybe somebody did. I guess in our last podcast, we did talk about the fact we felt they had the advantage, not just because they were up three to two, but they had the pitching set up and that found out to be right. So let's pat ourselves on the back of about that otherwise I was completely wrong. I had Dodgers over Astros, didn't happen. I guess I was right that the Astros lost the World Series, but I had the wrong team. So I don't think that counts. Give the braves credit. Fantastic job. Great job I am topless. Great job by Brian snicker. Unbelievable that they got four outfielders who all contributed. I mean, obviously when they lost Acuna when they were 46 and 46, nobody, nobody foresaw the World Series for them. I think we weren't alone there, but you know, at the beginning of the year, we both did have them as the division champions. That probably isn't so hard looking back on it. But we thought they'd have Acuna and sirocco at some point and certainly didn't know what was going to happen with Ozuna. That's his own fault, but I mean, give them credit for rallying. It was a great story. It wasn't a great World Series, but it was a great story and applaud the braves. I tell you what, that is the definition of a mid season jackpot. If you're a GM and you're running baseball operations, the moves that Alex and Thompson made and ends up hitting on all of them. That is doesn't happen very often. You may hit on one or two, but when you make that many moves, generally, all of them don't come through like the way the braze did. And that staff in general, you know, from sticker to Washington to young. I mean, their whole entire coaching staff did a phenomenal job as well as the players. That's why their champs, the parade, however, was a little interesting. I mean, I don't know that I've ever seen a parade go that fast. I mean, the busboy had to be going somewhere around 40 mph. Not only that joc pederson was giving out pearls to everybody, and then Tyler magic almost gets arrested. It seemed like there was some confusion there. Nevertheless, the city of Atlanta got their parade though John. Yeah, I mean, they look like they had fun and thankfully nobody got hurt. I couldn't believe that video of that buzz rolling through. I don't know what was should have been stopped and given a speeding ticket. You know, I liked Peter. So that was a nice story with the pearls. I don't think they were real pearls, he was trying. I highly doubt they were, but I think it was a nice touch. He's a funny guy. Maybe that adds to his marketability as he's a free agent. I mean, you talk about the four guys that they got. I'm not sure which of the four actually was the most key. Peterson to get them through that first round, Rosario through the next round. So air in the next round and then do valves. The guy who can play center field and pulled it all together. So, I mean, you can make a case for all four guys. I mean, you know, Peterson really carried them past Milwaukee. I mean, he wasn't even starting for three out of four games and was clearly if they had MVP of the division series. He was it, and then, of course, was very unbelievable in the LCS and then solaire with the home runs in the World Series and, you know, it's going to play well for them in free agency. It's a layer and Rosario and Peterson all free agents. I think they'll probably bring one of them back, but I can't see them having room for more than one. They want to, I mean, obviously, Acuna will be back. Maybe that right at the very beginning, but he'll be back. Ozuna will see what happens there, but she they've got and do vows coming back. So, I mean, there's certainly room for one of them, at least. But I'm not certainly not all three of them are coming back. There's a jocks impact on that team. I think what will be just a playing field. I think that team was good day or talented all year, but it seemed like once he got there, they had a different attitude to him. It was a little more in your face and it seemed like the braves had kind of gone about their business in the past. And I thought it gave him a little bit of an edge. And certainly, it certainly showed once playoff time came. So they got some decisions to make. At this point, you gotta believe in Alex in the movie. You're gonna make. But he definitely got some tough ones to make as we get into free agency. And by the way, none of those moves will take place for quite some time. There's gonna be there's probably gonna be somewhat of a lockout at some point once the collective bargaining agreement doesn't comes to an end. And so my guess and tell me if I'm wrong on this, John, is there not there going to be any movement until that is eventually settled? Yeah, I'm not foreseeing much and I don't see much hope for anything being settled at the beginning in December when the CBA expires. I mean, I hope we're not depressing people here..

"Mlb insider john hayman and former major. Leaguer tony gwynn junior. All past the halfway point in august races are starting to heat up. We got three car races and the nationally east and all of a sudden things may look a little bit brighter for the red sox in the american league east. We're going to get into it all but first let me welcome in my original partner. John heyman john. How you doing man has been time since we've been. I wanted good. i guess. Give me the break To do the deadline. I appreciate that dylan. Thank you very much. It's great to be back with you. Tony and Let's talk some baseball. Let's do it well. I i should start with Out west with padres who are all of a sudden not playing that well and Our victim to the eighth no hitter of the season tying a major league record tyler gilbert in his first outing in the big leagues throws a no no against the padres in. This has been phenomenal. This your john is see the amount of no hitters thrown We off to a really fast pace it slowdown down but nevertheless It is tied in august. Incredible and give gilbert credit I mean he's twenty seven years old. This is the debut amazing I guy to throw a no hitter in his debut since bobo holloman i mean that's before your time. Tony and believe it or not. This is even before my time. So by eight years before i was born bobo. Holloman through threw a no hitter in his debut so great story. it's good to see The diamondbacks have a nice day. It's been a rough year for them. Obviously but Was fantastic and by the way before we continue on. I've got a little quiz for you. Tony what are these. four names. Mean to you of overlander sanchez. millwood and beckett. I they all all on the opposing side of their no hitters. You're you're a good memory. You're very smart. We Dylan i did. Well he dylan actually did. The research didn't do anything but You have a good memory. Yes four your four different teams milwaukee san diego dodgers in phillies. You were on the wrong end of no hitters so you're quite familiar with no hitters. Too familiar with no. John get i can i can say at least. On one of those i had no participation in orlando. When we were. I was a rookie. It was a in the in. The american leagues were playing with d. h. So there was no need for pinch-hitter at that point and quite frankly the way he was thrown it I was glad. I didn't get his shot that day but manager. He would gone three for four that again. Big mistake manager was martin who it was. It was ned yose. Yeah that was That was that's very possible. I could have got some knocks. But i wasn't a part of the other three sanchez The the combined no hitter would millwood in company with the mariners and There was the other one was the other one. Yeah i participated in all of those. I can't i can't slide away knows but it's still accomplishment to be in those games anyway from where no doubt no doubt But certainly tyler. Gilbert's is gonna be the coolest of no hitters so far because as you mentioned. I started dad's in the crowd families in tears as he gets it done. And i and i heard him say On a on a on a show the other day that he didn't actually have his best stuff. He credited his teammates to his to to show you the type of character credit his teammates for marketplace. Because to be quite honest potteries hit some balls. Are that game. It just they head to head on your head right yeah. They're running into bad luck as you've seen lately with injuries and other things so good for the young man to to say that one thing i noticed about the no hitters in allied appointing on. Mlb network is that It's not the guys throwing ninety seven absurd these hitters majlis renault hitter. They barely hits ninety The only one at better than average fastball was rodion who through no hitter of the eight I guess kimberly finished off the combined. No hitter obviously is way better than average fastball. but that was started by jack davies. And of course it means who has maybe a tick above average fastball. Batting average fastball But the other ones were miley and his ilk throwing the no hitter. So it's a little bit unusual a lander and beckett through the no hitters this year. Yeah no i mean guys who who have learned how to pitch Get get a lot out in into the credit. They've been able to do it now on the other side of that. No hitter with the padres. Who had really struggled. But got a shot in the arm yesterday. from fernando tattoos junior. He returned as a right fielder. goes three for four a double two home runs looked healthy. And i'll tell you what the padres haven't played well Especially against the diamondbacks in the rockies. But it's really set up for him to come in and put a stamp On the mvp race shitty come back and this team start to win ballgames and he continues to play like he played yesterday it sets up well storyline wise for him to put the stamp on his. Mvp and you know what i. Yesterday i was notified to actually have the nl mvp. Vote of haven't had one in a while. I i know. I voted for Ryan braun and he won. And i can't remember the others. I've i've only been doing this for thirty plus years. I think i've only had the. Mvp vote maybe five times. I mean just the luck of the draw not blaming anyone and It's fine whatever vote again. I'm happy with it on complain but it certainly an honor to have the mvp vote and absurdly certainly early. So you know we don't know the mvp is going to be a single has been fantastic this year that much also spoken like a man that has a vote. So we'll we'll we'll slide passer but can i. I gotta ask you about the change of position. I thought all along even even as he started to experiment with center field that if they truly wanted to to maximize him it would have to be in right field. I'm not i'm not. I don't know that by the injury. The provincial of injury by moving outfield especially if he was playing center field Just don't see that being the case but certainly for the season arrested this season if you're trying to maximize this roster that you have I think right. Phil suits him. Best at this point. Well you know. Better about the roster. Obviously cronin worth and kim can play shortstop so they have guys who can manage and To me i love him as a shortstop You know to me. That's a premium position. I'd love to see him. Go back there if it is about the injury all for it..

"Talent every position he's got an all star line-up out there. He's done everything you want him to do. He's even got the raise paying five million dollars to not as he's blamed for the Yankees. And then watch miss out on, Bumgarner get killed for it. But think about it. He would because that's the one thing he hasn't been able to get. Right. Is that deadline to bring somebody in to put them over the top? And if you think about the Red Sox last year, they went and got a volley of nobody was really saying that, that was going to be a move that one on the World Series. And it was a big part of that he was tremendous and then ver- Lander the year before the Yankees went out. They got Paxton. They brought in habits. They haven't done. Done it. And, but it hasn't been right? Guys knows have been the right guys. You know, it's, it's, it's sunny gray over Burling to me is the one, I think more than anything like that's it. Yeah. Sonny gray move just did not work out. You're not going to get everyone. Right. I know. But he has with the pitching and the deadline deals. When you've seen these other teams that have gone out, and that move has put them over the top of our land or wanted to Houston. Certainly your no doubt and he's pitched as good as he ever has an his career since he's been there. Yeah. I mean you can't see Madison Bumgarner within the twins uniform. Right. And that's wins a ride into an AOL now, having remember the whole nonsense with the ball and McCovey cove last week with, who was that max months. Right with Muncie from the dodgers. And then I watched the press conference afterwards is a little media briefing. He seems like a mid west type guy though, like he might be very happy in Minnesota as opposed to New York. And I know he's in San Francisco. I get it. But I'm I'm joking him in Minnesota could be the perfect fit for him. I don't disagree with that. I'm just from a Yankees perspective, the best pitcher on the market. Can't go to another American League team. It just can't happen. You wanna go to work with what you have in the American League fine running Dame in the World Series. It just you cannot lose whatever it takes. And I don't think that sure is gonna get dealt, not only so I think it's gonna come. I mean Bumgarner is going to be the guy who's their owner GM that came out yesterday or the day before and says, he's got to and we're not doing anything with them, right? Basically said it would have to be franchised, right? Altering, which makes sense the Herschel Walker type of deal. Yeah. And he's also owed so much money, right? At teams are going to pause when they look at that contract and all the deferments, so this is going to be the rallying cry. At least we don't have to worry about it for a couple of months. It's just going to be, you know, now until the end of July thirty first is not going to be the end of August as well. But that's I mean that's going to be the thing that comes up every single day. No doubt, and now I'm not I'm not surprised moves are happening early to. I mean, we're, we're sitting here on June. Eighteenth we already got Encarnacion traded in rumors about Madison Bumgarner to the twins. This stuff is going to be fast and furious because you've got one shot that's it which I like. Right. Yeah. By the way, don't get nuts. He hasn't been traded to the twins. Just yet, and it's really nothing more than a thought. But it's a thought that was the day before. I wouldn't think so when you've got these teams that are in first place or challenging for first place. I think they're all threat to make a move. You're right though. I had not heard that one before I wouldn't get quite grizzlies not John Hayman saying that deal is close zone. It's nothing like that. It is not, although John Heyman did tweet out that the Yankees loves Zack Wheeler, I don't know them as much. Yeah. I mean he's going to be gone guy. You know he gets the base hit and not that we need to talk about them right now. But you get the bay he gets the basic tied the game comes out and is just awful. And the next thing. Yeah. Ro a strike. He's gone. One way. I mean he's gonna he'll get traded. He I think he'll get traded about the at bat to bra with that ending was so horrific. But there was to me not a worse at bat than the about the Brian McCann on four pitches. He never it's Brian McCain throw a strike hundred years old. I mean a four pitch walk than Freeman comes up. He goes to old lace this. I mean come on the bullpen kept the close right? Oh, Jesus Chinese pavilion. Here's another one. Real quick, take a break. Here's another one. What are these guys think whether it's Brody van wagon the Dolton Anaheim that gives Matt Harvey whatever he got. He got twelve million dollars eleven somebody explain to me, why Jerry's familiar or even met Harvey at this stage in his career. Rear? Why are they worth anything? More than the veteran minimum explain that to me, let alone ten and twelve million dollars because here's what I know I can bring up a kid from AA, or AAA that can give me the same crappy performance that these guys are giving. Well, because bullpens have been so bad and someone who's got a track record like familiar when you're putting him in a setup role, you're thinking that he's going to be much better. And all of a sudden look we got a great back into the bullpen. I've got a guy who's he was right at the top of the saves list in Mets history. And it wouldn't with fifty some odd saves last year. I can live with the dias mistake. I'm not gonna call a complete mistake yet because it's only a few months, and he's a young kid. I can deal with that because of how he was a lockdown closer last year. Young kid I get it. And I know why they did that the familiar, one I didn't understand at the time. I didn't know we were going back to that. And not only that to give them what they gave him for. He's not worth two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year right now. Well, the worst part about it is, it's, it's this year, and that it's two more. Dollars a piece, which means that there's no way that they're just moving on DFA in them. There's just no way. That that's three outs. Can you get three algae's hope you can trade them against this? It's gotten to the point now you can trade them. You I, I mean somebody's Qaluza, I trust me. I know what you're saying. I just I think that hopefully he straightens himself out to the point where somebody is so desperate to add to their bullpen that they might actually trade for I'm serious. That's the only that's the best shot you got. It's the best shot. You have if someone actually called for him now they should be fired. He's thrown it an era of eight not disagreeing with you. I'm saying that if he can put together you hope that he can because the season's over, I'm sorry. It's done. But he if he could put them tonight. It's not done yet. Mean giving them tonight he put like two good weeks. And then someone out there is a may be fine cheeses seen from what you've seen do you even think he's capable of that. Right. And I don't of. Just saying, maybe. Richard theorizing. I just don't know that it's possible to seen. Yeah. I mean anything's possible, but yeah, of course, I think you're stuck with them for the next two years. Two and a half year. Jerry's familiar to drew gone. There's a winning combination. God just terrible just pounders pitch. The day before Brooks pounders on Father's Day. But that physique, he can't try them out there. Two days in a row. Still catching his breath, and it is boomer and geo Jerry and four boomer this morning..

That's true, but she became a celebrity by Mary, George Clooney. He wasn't a celebrity when they started dating. She was a pretty big deal in activism circles. So she was an activism celebrity. We just don't know about it 'cause they're nobody. See, that's, that's, but the nobody becomes a somebody so quickly that you know what I'm saying? Like if you dated a waitress or a bartender while they Matt Damon did that he's married to, I think it was the waitress said, Nobu, what's her name? I don't know why nobody said, yeah. While he was stuck on you. Okay. So that's that's on. You. Yeah. You met her down in south Florida. You're saying that she had. No booty instead of nobody, I know I was trying to know boo. The trouble Rapin. Nobody also maranda Lambert, married, a colleague, David apology, MRs Damon. Yeah. You said MS. No, MRs Damon. Well, I don't know if she took his last name. So it's, you know, a bit presumptuous of me to assume that it's MRs Damon. I really liked believe shouldn't call her, and nobody really like Blake Shelton and maranda Lambert together was sad to see them break up, but he's doing his thing with funny now which I mean clock is ticking, put a ring on it or does, is that did they meet on the voice, the spark certainly flu. And then the marriage went on the rocks and the labor. Yes. So a lot of people a lot. They try to draw their own conclusion, which is a little unfair, quite honestly. But Miranda Lambert remarried and she married a cop good for her. No, actually, John Hayman says, one scout view of the Marlins of the first round. I mean says John Hayman, to that one's got told him they were ranked fourth best or third best draft, and then third-best bowed in Bowden who, oh, yeah. He works for me now or Kim Bowden. "It ought j Barrett is to be honest with you. I really don't know what he is what we don't we don't know what he can be right. There's clear things he needs to work on like he needs to improve his jump shot to write. Let's be honest about it. He needs to improve his play an isolation. He's great in transition. He can score and saw that at Duke. The thing about RJ Barrett. That's different than Zion Williamson is you look at him and he's six seventies got Zion is built in a way we've never seen before. And there's something really exciting about that. But there's also something scary about that. Because we really don't know, always said, he's dream on green with forty more pounds. Think about that all in on Barrett. I really am, and I don't even want it, and I'm, I'm, I'm probably got into minority here. I'm the one guy that doesn't want to package the world for Anthony Davis. I gotta tell. Tell you I'm really I'm scared of that. Because if they, they miss, if they make that move neighboring Davidson and drank comes here. Okay. And they don't win an NBA title in the next few years. I understand Davis. Is it for the long haul or you would hope so boy, oh, boy? Themselves back, but isn't it the same thing if they bring the rant and they don't win? And they keep sure because you're spending, j Barrett. But I'm just right now. I'm fine with RJ Barrett. I just don't know what he is. And it will be RJ battery right down. We'll be I think I'd be stunned. If Memphis doesn't take John Maria. It just makes. I agree with that. "Whether he's in left field the reason right field or whatever enough of this guy right now. Bro. I was so sick when he caught that ball to end the game last night. I'm like, are you kidding me? Who the hell is this guy? My WinCo he may turn out to be a star. But you know, based off first before you're doing it's not the first time. He did it. I said, well, maybe us here in a lot of crap in the F. Maybe the met fans were Tom age rash. You know, why? No, that's not true anymore. Nobody overnight. Right. So he was waving antiques. Does it with that? Look, all so arrogant, all might he's got that Arad. You look like, you know, he's actually done something in the major leagues. Jesse? You've done nothing on. What if you give me a break? You hit a game winning home run in April. Let's have a horrible. I mean, jeez. And that just made a way everything about last night stunk. It was nothing. Good about it between the island or game and Robin Leonard. And you know Brown knows that stupid game. Well, let me go on the head to hit the home run. I know he was annoyed giving up the home run. We'll Renault to add when we're cursing. And of course, as you given up the run homerun clown Jesse Winker with his little wave familiar on the I L. Yeah. Is that a soprano? He has some kind of injury. I absolutely never heard what they go. They called it. I think the scientific name is can't get people out is. That's what I call. It was like something else. I never heard of it. They were saying. Here's the way. I got to think about Jerry's familiar right now. He's not on the right Brody said, it should be a ten day thing. Okay. We'll see. We'll see. And that means signed kimbrel. Never went to me signed kimbrel. Come on. I know. When when the vault gets broken into us, and we spread the money Craig kimbrel in Dallas kaikal and anyone else as the great Marilyn mccoo once said when the moon is in a seven thousand Jupiter aligns with MAs. That's. Basically when that sad. But I do have to ask you a question. Yes. What is that two weeks ago? I asked you and John Heyman. Who's gonna join us at eleven and I even did that John aims at eleven. John eleven and I even put it on Twitter for one of those polls. And I said in this fictitious world with the Mets spend big money. Would you rather have kaikal or kimbrel? You said kaikal is your view changed. At this point. I still probably would like to take would rather have. Kyko. Okay. I definitely would like one of them. No, no. But you, but you're staying. One of them, and I'll be more than happy. Okay. I think you do either guy. No, no, absolutely. Of course, they could I just figured maybe because of millions continuing struggles. And the fact he's injured list that maybe that would push you in other met fans this consider buying Jason Vargas, even always pitch pretty well last couple of times out and I'm concerned about the rotation. I mean, as I you know, what's going on with this guy is fishing today. I'm not I was when I was a little concerned about Jake, but he righted the ship, and I got confidence. Jake's going to be okay. This guy. Not so confident about a big star today. Let's see if you can turn it around. We'll get to the Yankees a little bit later on as well John Hayman will join us beningo and Roberts here in the mid day. And every single hour beginning this hour a chance to win Yankee take. "But in two thousand nineteen it doesn't matter. We're talking about right now this season. Good pitcher is he worth that amount of money. No is he worth all the years. No. But right now, he's their third story. Their starting pitching is really good. You know, what the Mets starting pitching is better right now. And you know, what their bullpen is shaky. The Mets bullpen is better than the nets to. So I'm going to match starting pitching of the Mets is I think the best in baseball. You could make a case for Washington could make a case for Cleveland, but the Mets were better than Washington last year and in terms of their starting pitching, and they they're younger group. The Indians have a lot to say that common all three of them. Excellent starting pitching. But I'm gonna take the Mets starting pitching. I'm gonna take the Mets bullpen over the next two games there at least in the wildcard game in your mind. Correct. I think they're a wildcard team. Yes. Interesting. John Hayman, of course, joining us. Go into the mall and game tomorrow. I don't know why big Marlin game. Yeah. We get the rocky people go into that game. Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna play. The last parking. Would it be twenty thousand people for Rockies Marlins? I think there will be okay. Say over twenty thousand have you seen the ballpark from the inside? I hear it looks very different because they got rid of that. I saw. No. That's the one thing. I. How they do. That is Derek jeeter has is no. Stack. Oh, exactly. Maybe Geeta hung out at the at the Metropolitan Museum of art. Practice. Time for. Doc. We're gonna win more than jeeter. He didn't do anything to say Jesus did have time for a few other things was funny. Other things. Derek Jeter note when he played no one wanted to win more than them that may be fair. But as an owner. More than him. You got that? Right called all of them. Well, I don't know about the Orioles. But I give you. Give us so give me right now. John the great John Heyman. "You know? I think a lot of teams would do that. We were talking about it last night on MLB tonight. Like if the Yankee suddenly thought like a two year deal was possible. Like, wouldn't you jump in house two years one hundred million like you could do that? Because it's never the money that cripples you as a team, it's the opportunity cost. It's the play from the roster when you're no longer valuable. It's never the money. So no, I've I've believed the dodgers would go. They're the reason I say that though is because the league whenever there's a leak behooves. I try to trace the roots of who does this behoove. And when you get to these cases where these numbers are reported if an agent or somebody from the agent's office is leaking to one of his trusted reporters. Here's the numbers that were being offered by others. There is no way to check that like you can ask. The dodgers. And they might refute it privately. But it's not something that they were talking about publicly because who the hell comments on offers. Yeah. But actually, they all do like with our net of guys between and Rosenthal. John Heyman pass like it does get out in a small world. So I know what you mean. But I really think that was Blakely the offer. I also think that the giants offer that came out, you know, for three ten was probably just about right? I don't know what the White Sox were exactly thinking that's a little more convoluted. But like that's short term deal. Like just think about you know, again, if if Parker is six or seven win player for four years age twenty six twenty seven twenty eight twenty nine is he worth forty five million per, yes. And then all he has to do to match his his contract after that is nine years in one fifty you know, Jacoby ellsbury did seven for one fifty so. Yeah, that's that's still money that would make sense in his prime. There would stand. What do you got for Brian? I want to switch gears. A little bit too Cuyler Murray. Number one, Brian do you think it was that baseball took a hit on that? Like some people do and number two. What's the word on him as baseball player? How good is he potentially playing major league baseball. Yeah. I think that's the whole thing is that he's not fully developed. You know baseball player he's a prospect. He's a guy who was very good and showed great, tools and college. And obviously when you're drafted in the first round, your very highly regarded, however, you know, against think of the real world, the real world is developed to the point where he could be an NFL quarterback and baseball. He's developed to the point that maybe he could play in high. Switch a very different type of skill set. That's required in these two sports. He's far away in baseball. And there's no guarantee he would ever be able to endure and get there. Whereas in full. Football. It was obvious where his level was and no for that reason. I don't think baseball takes hit look with everything with C T concussions. Not guaranteed contracts. Everything the NFL again, you don't do that. Unless it's really obvious that you're gonna make more money in football, you rarely make more money and football or have a better life. So it has to be obvious. You can watch Brian host throughout the regular season. MLB? Now, also, I'm be network is airing live spring training baseball everyday up until opening day. If you're in a cold part of the country and wanna see people enjoying sunshine. We've got less than a minute left, but answer two questions for me quickly, Brian. I what do, you know, more baseball or boxing? What do you feel is more of an expertise for you baseball fury wilder and Joshua? Are they going to fight or the fact that they are promoted by different brands? I understand that he today. Spall? I it wasn't a great setup. Admittedly. I should have just. Been full question. Wouldn't you know, I, but right? But he also knows you know, what never mind Brian. Thank you for being with us. Don't know. They're of course, going to all all three are gonna fight that like nothing come on. Now. No, they're all three are gonna fight. And I would then in order even though I love wilder..

"Than later. Yes, I do, but we negotiated a system that allows the market to operate, and I have every confidence that for those players that I just described that market is gonna clear before we get to play games. Is this market going to clear did J D Martinez? Get the money that he was owed. JD Martinez is the one everybody keeps saying he signed late last year and won the MVP. Sure. He also got to bat in a lineup that included Benintendi and Mookie Betts, and he was conducive to playing in that lineup. Like winning the MVP. I won't say it was easier for him. But he went to a lineup where he had a bunch of bats around him. I think he probably could have been paid much more than he was paid. If we knew JD Martinez was going to have the year. He had last year. What did he get one hundred and fifty million one fifty over six or seven seasons? Did JD Martinez. Well worth it. Right. You look at it. Now, if you look at that doesn't every team in baseball say I wish I would've offered JD more one hundred and fifty million dollars. If that's all it was gonna take to get him, the Oakland A's, they're not spending money like that. But that's not a huge dollar amount considering what guys have been getting across baseball for the last decade that Martinez deal was actually cheaper than I thought it was five years one hundred ten million one hundred ten about. How one hundred and ten for five years, and he'll be what thirty he'll be in his mid thirties by the time that's over. I wanna see JD Martinez because he kinda he kinda burst onto the scene a little bit late to with the Astros by the time. He started getting good with the Tigers. He was what twenty eight thirty thirty one years old. He is now. So by the time that contracts he'll be about thirty five. That's a good point. If you're Scott Boris you use that JD Martinez. Well tuition, right? What maybe that's what they're talking about with a shorter term deal for bigger dollar amounts for Bryce Harper. He doesn't want to go through this again if this happening now. Nope, this is why I don't think anybody's gonna say I'm down to sign the five year deal because if Bryce when he's thirty one years old. Trying to get a big contract. He doesn't want just a five year deal for one ten when he's thirty five when he feels like he should be getting three hundred right now at age twenty six so. You know, the major league baseball free agency. Something's gotta give and John Heyman has got to stop tweeting out that Bryce Harper is about to make a decision out. Dave you're on the fan. Good morning. How you doing? How are you? You check your Facebook page. Yeah. We there is no such thing. I'm like, I said, I I think I would remember if I started one and I didn't. Tell you what as mentioned you're talking earlier about the half hour show being so great to share. Yeah. They made agreement with WWE gonna stream. During halftime. On the network. Is it gonna scream instrument into the stadium? But they're going to be doing. I wrestling with the x t halftime Sunday. They wouldn't put it in a in the stadium because it takes away from their halftime show. Chose not to grant. Because the people watching TV ten switched to w w networks not gonna miss the game. Right play during halftime, always trying to do something. They have is a kitten bowl or something like that. Or didn't. They have lingerie football or something didn't do something in the past in the Bud Light bowl. Sanity of it are always people, you know, they don't they're not going to change the channel. It'll leave it on watch. Maroon five, and you know, just get some food all marketing doesn't make a difference to me. I mean, I mean if. That's that's what you know. If if the game stinks. And you're talking about the commercials and the halftime show. Well, thank you very much. Tony. All right. Yeah. It's. I mean, I mean. It's I mean, I put it on. And that's when you get up to stretch your legs you sitting down watching the game eating food. And it's okay. Bathroom sound anything else? I gotta do before the game comes back on. And that to me, it always it always is sluggish because you halftime show is longer players are waiting to get, you know, you always talk about the force of habit with football players. We go on the road. We we all go out to dinner on Friday. We all do this. We all do that. And we're back in the room and this that and the game was played in. We know in halftime, you know, we're only in the locker room for so many minutes is longer because of the show. Anyway, so setting off fireworks in place gets smokey. And you gotta wait for that to clear, it's. Part of the you know, it's it's when you have the bigger. Ax. That'd be really tuned in whether it's was by taxing Houston. Whoever. Now, you know, it's it's you know, you're getting you're getting entertainment with a show football game. But football is supposed to be show. Right. Let's go to Ben in Milford Benue on the fan. Hey, how you doing? All right, man. What's going on? I have a question about the the giants. John Clifton very has expressed interest in timer for the first overall pick. I wanna know what you think about the giants train the sixth overall pick for Josh Rosen. So the quarterback feature have Leonard. We think thank you. Josh rosen. No, you know, that would you know, what it is? You're gonna instant controversy in your hands because you get a quarterback who's already played in league. Let's let's. Is having a bad year bad game? It was gonna be talking about put him in there. I think. I still think. It depends on the brain brain. Thoughts of this of this of the front office? If they truly believe that this team is a playoff team because the line is better in allies gonna give more protection and we've got a great running back. And we got you know, and we're gonna fix the defense. They won't draft a quarterback because if they could get. Whoever. He's not playing right now. And that that's a position that that. That's address lot that guy that they pick should be starting and possibly be rookie of the year. I mean, you want somebody that good? You take a quarterback and put him on the bench and he's being mentored. Basically, he's not contribute. You know, we talked about the quarterback of the future should have picked some my last year. And I you know, I. If they if they think, you know, something we're not really. We'll be lucky if you make the playoffs then you go for quarterback of the future. But what happens if Eli turns the clock back has a really nice year. But it's just they don't go anywhere. Quarterback since fine. Why bringing another guy in there? I mean, he's a quarterback. If you draft a quarterback quarterback this year, we are in a position to position you in position last year to get a quarterback your position initiated a quarterback. What if next year, you know, you're position where there is no quarterback? And then you realize sauce regrets. Then what? Let's go to Justin and Justin what's going on. A tornado. All right. What's up? Accu while ago about a pack. Yeah. With thurman. I know you said, you weren't you said, you weren't watching pack your Brunner. No. Sort of highlights. I saw a pilot package when it was all, you know. Did you watch Thurman and Lopez? I was there for that one. Yeah. I mean, I I knew the fight on. But at the time, I turned it. I I thought I was gonna start at like ten thirty eleven has finally went on the air at eight. At ten forty five. I saw the eleventh round or something like that. But I I heard Thurman knocking down the second. But then I heard I've never heard Lopez. I was out for a while he was hurt or whatnot. But I heard this guy. Lopez almost got it out of their seven. Yeah. He had him hurt and Lopez a lot of big names, we lose all of them. But he if he can punch you to knock them out because he had him hurt. He just couldn't finish him. So I told you a while back that tacky out with Thurman site, pack, you out knocks him out. I believe it. Now. I see I I always thought was the best welterweight. But you watch them fight any faded late in the fight. I think he's got arm issues, still and him and pack. Yeah. Pack out. I still to is to still quick at forty. And I think it would be if you know Floyd's going to say, well, I'll fight the winner. But I we'll just assume fight Floyd. I don't know if he's going to get him though. I would hope so I mean look. I pack. You also got man crazy. A oh he looks so good against Br. Bronner's is. Don't be scared. I don't know if he doesn't throw punches now if we don't punches you think something's wrong. And then there's nothing wrong with you just throwing punches that means you're you're going to lose. And you know. You're right now you lost easy. You lost real easy. Thanks for taking my call. Tony. Sure. I'm not a fan because I don't, you know, you don't have to be vulgar every five seconds. You open your mouth. And he's just you know, and you know, even though he's a four division champion. He never beat the best guy division losing his next defense. Just. Irritating. That's all knowing that's what he is. Because he does have talent. But he just doesn't know he runs his mouth so much. Pakistan, a good fight who knows my CPAC employed again. But but see that fight welterweight division is the deepest most talented division in boxing. But it's like all the main fighters line with other networks and other promoters are never gonna fight, but pack yowling and. Same umbrella both with premier boxing with Dow Heyman. So they can they can they could make that real quick if they wanted to let's go to Manhattan Archie, you're on the fan. All right. Anybody thinks that the giants oh eight contender for the cherry offs delirious. Landes. French worth. Backers network. It's the perfect time to get a quarterback to go with the running back. Otherwise, it makes no sense. Yeah. They gotta break into some new guy running back. See if if you get six seven years, I running back. That's great. But you know quarterbacks can last ten fifteen years quarterbacks playing into thereof forties now. And beyond. She's gone. Yeah. The giants. Again, again, if management things is a playoff team, which I don't think it is. Then you can get a court. You know, they they can they might have someone who's going to contribute right now to help them. Get over the hump. If they don't then it's time to get a quarterback and start start, grooming. But.

"Selection ever got all four hundred twenty five votes from the BBC w a s today and a member of the BBC W A is joining us now former herald sports columnist and current columnist for the athletic one, Steve Buckley, Steve good afternoon. How are you? Something interesting is I voting for one player on my doubt. This is a good thing bad thing. But I voted for the top vote-getters. So that means I was either remarkably pressure, but I knew how the best record was going to vote or I'm just kind of plain ordinary, and I just kind of went with the flow. Yeah. Your kids would call you Steve. Or your grilled chicken salad. Right. No one's ever offended with grilled chicken salad. We need some people that like jambalaya to vote like someone who voted for Jeff Kent and not Barry Bonds in if you look at Jeff cast numbers kind of tied into Barry Bonds orient guy, now that I I didn't go against the grain or just like. You know, maybe street both for Jeff Kenna one of those guys where was your Placineau Polanco, placebo Polanco. I want that vote. Someone voted for him. So why not? I actually almost I almost voted for a guy that we in that group. And then I changed my mind at the last second it was like seventy years ago. And I I got to give a drawing a blanket what that? Back. Yeah. I love you. The very nice, man. Some serious dragging, I alone. Practically and this was your time game was going to be on ballots. Just gonna I wasn't going to vote for ten anyways expert, and I. I voted for him. Then I thought about it. Go back and all that. So I called Jack O'Connell, and I resubmitted my thoughts. Now looking back on it. I wished I had because. Earned that you when you see that ought vote for that guy is a very good reason for it. And I'll keep you. I don't want to go up changing here, but hell McCoy. Dayton, Ohio hall of fame writer. His career nearly ended six or seven years ago. Visit eyesight is so bad. You can't drive anymore. And so on the Dayton Cincinnati nights. And it was Aaron boom. Of the red. Who said, you know, what you need to do any made a big deal of it? You gotta get driver. You gotta get someone who's gonna drive you win. Spots. Home every night. And he said you go on Facebook on Twitter and put a thing and somebody a retired airline pilot living in Dayton sorry. For the last several years. He's Dr hell in the press box mealy sits would how what's the game. The club, the drives him home. He he wonderfully renewed Al McCoy's career and on the basis of that hell McCoy gave our doom the one vote that he got a few years ago. And I thought that was lovely to that point. Why isn't curt flood in the hall of fame? I mean who met more than Kurt flood for the the players. Now, the salaries they make obviously a player on the field is a very good player not hall of fame worthy. But as someone who. The narration of baseball would I would say to that is I I would not have occurred. Flood. It would it would be up to the players association, maybe gave an award one or something like that. I don't think what what did quite reaches the it. It certainly set at the nets for a lot of players, but. It seems it changed the way players get paid. It changed the way plays. But what's the game itself? And I and I read marinas, Dave, rants, well lovely book on on flights and a few years back and in any certainly both a heroic in a tragic figure in major league baseball would I don't know. That's just me back. The big story lines from this hall of fame. Voting are the wall one that Mariana rare was the first person to get a unanimous vote. And to that Barry Bonds arrived Clemens again left out in the cold. Are you surprised with either of those results? Yes, I'm surprised that that Mario one hundred percents of because. There are older member. Electorate who I mean, what this look at the record. I mean, really remains was not. I've seen hate realm. And either all baseball royalty icon players that deserve that on just as much. Also, don't suspect and people have the reason can Iraq people who have felt upon that paper quite Cobb didn't get in. There have been voters simply feel or whatever. Guys pursue valid while get the joy of voting. I'm something. I'm kinda cool on. And so I don't I think it may have something really talked about that. Because we live in the age of social media and more Dallas made public. I think that there were people who didn't want to be the outlier. I mean, just look at what one person hit not voting for that person's name may public's, but a Christian. Eight in baseball. Say that nothing with us that that person would have. Thousand media people on the front lines cameras and microphones. Be possible that there were a few people who otherwise wouldn't have them. He said keep inside. I don't want to deal with that headache. And that's just. Yeah. I I'm surprised that he's the first person to do it to get that unanimous vote, especially considering that tap, and I just talked about this Ken Griffey junior seemed like a perfect person to buck that trend and that was only three years ago. And I I I was drafted him. Walk in the door. And it was great. All player decades. First game kingdom. Bellingham the Wesley and they had a tradition. Those days. I don't know if he's still at the Bellingham Everett giant plate game at the king dome. Liked the futures game white so so Griffey's per in. The kingdom was actually as a single a ball player short season. So I go back that far having seen that game. But yes, you are correct in the grand scheme that if anyone in recent was on juniors. It's what you leave out though, is because of the fallout over that will mission because of the fallout. I I was the one that Pedro's press conference. He was inducted elected router. And they had the press conference the next day in New York. I hear that. Tables X number people voted, but like nineteen didn't how do you feel about? This is answer was just happening then but. But there was a lot of criticism levied at at these unnamed people in some were named didn't go. Jimmy johnson. So while and spears I agree with him saying, I think it comes down to because of that. I think Mario got the benefit from the fallout from that in to take nothing away from my percents. But if your general question as it should have been this guy that guy. Yeah. It is. Oh, absolutely. We're chatting with Steve Barkley here. In Boston Herald radio to pitchers made a two starting pitchers made it yesterday and one didn't even look at their numbers. They're pretty close ROY halladay. Mike Mussina, God incurred schilling did not get in. I believe you voted for all three, correct? Buck. I did. Okay. Why do you think schilling didn't make the threshold of seventy five percent while holiday am? You've seen a dip. I mean, it's I think it's fairly obvious. Showing his stepped on landmines from watch. These nate. And I think he's always. I'm really bored with data without Curcio only. Find out. The whole thing about lynching. Journalists kind of thinks it's harmless humour despicable and. We live in a very I don't catch a conservative overall democratic public and can all we cannot sit at the table and hash out differences. But, but I thought that that you've been mem-, whatever you call it cartoon that suggested clinching journalists, and and his little comment was so much awesome. This year. What the hell was that all about you? Yeah. Now that that's what I say out loud wrong. Now, you wanna sit me down to the different table to measure his aim candidacy. I over here. Even on the ballot do sell, and I might add I so enthusiastically because I thought as a persona on the stage. He was just about the best. I ever saw were talking postseason and people say well post you what about recipes? About fifty games, but he also had three thousand strikeouts. Jerry, elite club of the pitchers at three thousand or more strikeouts. All of them, including knowing much talk. Got three thousand strikeouts. He has the best strikeout-to-walk ratio crooks. It's an incredible number thousand strikeouts. It only like seven hundred offset exactly. So I. Do you think he gets it next year or do he bonds and Clemens wait another year because the obvious choice next year at Saint Derek Jeter who may be the second unanimous player to get in? And and maybe no one wants to sully Dirk Geeta with people that aren't as popular as him at the hall of fame. Let me just changing jeeter is next year. But it is interesting there alone. There are a lot of old it is possible. And this is something I haven't share with anybody yet that I thought that apetite tickets in may go back to twenty nine percent with everybody else because I'm wondering. Friends. I'm wondering if there are one or two New York voters who Volvo from over there I both against here. And then I'll go back to not voting for other audio. Play. The short thought another day. Now, I think he's gonna get Andy's sixty percent right now Jason start from the athletic. I think the only player. I think who said sixty percent or more. I didn't get in from the BBC w a voice Jim Bunning who later got beckons for me. So I believe if I have the numbers. Correct. Here's what it is. If you if the if you had sixty percent with three years remaining, that's what it is. Yep. The only play sixty percent plus three more years about who didn't get into age, Jim Bunning, and Jim Bunning later. So historically. Guidepost hurts young. Plus and three additional crap. My candidacy he should get in unless and this is a big S on what's he says? Or does something that brings other people over the edge. I think he's going to get in and so blondes Clemens. It's it's a bit trickier because they didn't they didn't make the gains issue that I'm sure they would have wanted to make. And it's possible they apply and unless we get a situation over the next four years where a whole bunch of old people move on from gas or no longer wishing ballots or they have this new policy. It used to be like a spring court thing once you've had a hall of fame. He had the rest of your life. Now what they've done is. When you no longer are employed or writing you don't want to end the game. You get it the ten more years, and then they take it away. So hypothetically if I were to retire tomorrow. They would give me a ballot for ten more. Two years. And then I would I would be shown the door. So unless there are a goodly number of people in the next three years who get one of those little mailboxes, they die they retire. They no longer a qualified or happens every year or two there were people that just say, I don't wanna vote you more because they moved on. They still have they still eligibility, but they moved onto a different Chapman allies may no longer fall into the credit. I applaud this that they just say I don't feel qualified to vote anymore or they don't want to deal with the headaches anymore because you you are a truck there's some people no matter how you vote exactly I didn't vote the bonds and Clemens for a number of years, and that made me a prior to a segment of the voting up baseball public who believes they should have gone in obscene things to a different lens in recent years. I do go for bonds Clements. In the other side now Sheikh Musa pariah. And there are people that just don't want to you. With that. So unless you changes, the new people come along offended by bonds plumbing. It's possible that they won't get in sharia, they won't get into the veterans committee because because appeal the hall of fame wants them to be in the hall of fame, and there's a new group albeit a small one, and I want to see if you can try to explain this does book that will either vote for bonds and not Clemens or Clements not bonds. Can you explain the logic behind anybody who votes that way? I cannot I do know one of those voters. It's John Hayman and John Heyman votes were bonds, but not for Clements. And I don't know why. You would think and it's it's it's it's very close. It's only one or two votes. Either way there's a couple people vote for bonded Clemens in a couple of overcoming them. And I don't know why. But Heyman and Heyman used to cover the Yankees. It's possible that that came in saw things as a Yankee beat writer. Vis-a-vis Clemens that that he didn't like I don't know what they were..

"In your eyes is that. Mean it's needed never happened. But it should have happened. But I would say you're. Your baseball fishing. You love base do like Beijing. I trust your judgment on right? Is this a like a huge accomplishment by Marianna? Oh, it is. I had one hundred percent, right. Yes. I attach that. To what has happened here. And who he is. And who he's played for? I think officially that makes him the greatest Yankee ever there. I'm sure there's a lot of Yankee fans that might believe is definitely the greatest Yankee ever say. So I'll move over. He's the greatest player of all time. Now, the F he's the only one who got one hundred percent. That's all I'm saying greatest player of all time. What do you think? Yeah. By definition, greatest player of all time in any sport anywhere ever happened that any other hall of fame. It's been one hundred percent of anything that voters stupid. I mean, this is opinion Jeff stupid back. John heyman. Did not vote for Ken Griffey junior on his first ballot. John Hayman stupid don't clip that. Every time we mention Heyman that I just say that's not fair. I have no idea brought up John Hayman, but somebody when he got ninety nine point eight percent of the vote. There was some idiot out there. Solidifies Marianne greatest Yankee ever. That's I think that's arguable. Well, let's take it to the next level. I mean, greatest player of all time in any sport. I can't I can't say that it didn't have the greatest human human. There's other halls of fame right out. There did Mother Theresa have any sort of sports accurate. I mean, come on. Now, she's not in the Saint tall. She didn't get one hundred percent of the Saint hall of fame. I don't think we'll look it up. I don't know where you guys going with the. I'm just saying here's a great shaky of all time. Let's come. We just leave it at that. You can make that any case. Yes. It's not a case, man. This is not opinion. This is fact. Yes. No, it's Yankee of all time, Mariana Rivera. Yeah. And he was in shape. Like, Babe Ruth is just I was always a knocker may not be an in shape. You know for me is I didn't play against any minority ballplayers. And then, you know, Gehrig, he was always in the shadow of Babe Ruth, magical that old thing and ain't like people, you know, Dayton, everybody. I mean, there's this news Knox and urban Marianna. Welcome Tom Brady and the pats to Arrowhead cracks in it for the last two months. It hasn't been extreme cold. But it's been cold enough to know. What you got to wear and how you gotta deal with it. "And I I don't see John any reason why they shouldn't play Giancarlo in left field. The guys a very good athlete. He was an outfielder is entire career. Miami wasn't teaching down there. Why DHL most of the time? What why I'm with you? With the D H lot. You could certainly you can make up for the D H or you could you could. I know that this was nobody's talking about it. But maybe he can play. I they're not certain at first, right? So. To me. It's better the Machado at this moment. So close the door on Machado, and we will see I mean, maybe mature himself not getting the three thirty three twenty five. I was gonna get let me go play where I wanna play. So maybe you'd have to take a bargain deal. I think at this point with the Yankees, I gave them in their minds. Maybe. Why are we go to New York? I think we all know that. So I understand they wanna look around. But sometimes you pay the price when you do that, you know, evident brought up of course to the great John Heyman evident brought up that the Phillies. He thinks the Phillies a wind up with Harper. Kaikal and kimbrel. You buy that? Or not. It's possible. I I do see that one of the two stars right now. I said I think there's two Harper rather than the two which I think is very unlikely at this point. You can move that extra two hundred million too easily. Eagerly get to more. The talker wouldn't be politics at that point. You bet brand because you've got, you know, full so. Yes, kimberlin and would be the two if it's Machado. You could look at Pollock as as as a guy. Right. If you say if you sign up for let's say, whatever it is three hundred million. And you you had four hundred fifty million two hundred fifty million leftover for Tikal and Kimball and that should do it. I think was probably four years for eighty Kim both probably four years for seventy. So that's a hundred and fifty million. So that would fit be. That'd be cheaper than the two big stars. But I think in a way might help the team even more because they do need another starting pitcher circling back to the one last move piece the Mets may make if AJ Pollick is forced to accept a contract that maybe he wouldn't have dreamt of three months ago with the Mets get back into that. Or they really committed. Do you believe brody's words that they committed to fitting Jeff McNeil in that outfield? They have lagaras, they have kion Brockton. They're truly set the outfield or with the avenue be reopened to bring in an age a pilot. Well. Raising deal. I would say they'd have to take a look at it. But if it's if it's anything close to what he was looking for, and I was looking to five or six years Lereah turned down the qualifying offer. Even if he does a one year deal he's gonna wanna get more than seventeen point nine nine. Just like that. So. Would they go one year nineteen million? Let's say that was out there would they do that. A lot of money. But it's only one year for guys never healthy. And has Joe. So I would do it. I don't know. I think politics a terrific. So I would do it. Because they've already traded for Braxton, and they have nothing. Thing in nine million. And you know, the GARRETT'S gives you just the defense's Pollock. So they figure they've upgraded the offense dramatically certainly second base. So I would say the Mets probably wouldn't do one league. Aris makes AJ Pollock look like an iron man in centerfield, y'all. God. Guys heard every year, and it's only dive for balls. Breaks his thumb. They make good Radi Radi facilities. They each play.
