"In the three continents one place does not differ from another indoors. You're michaela in africa or your grotto's in syria are not perfection. I suppose you did not come to athens to swarm up a ladder or to grope about a closet. You came to see into here. What here in see you could not elsewhere. What a food for the intellect is it possible to procure indoors. That you stay there looking about you. Do you think to read their. Where are your books. Do you expect to purchase books at athens. You're much out in your calculations true. It is we at this day. Who live in the nineteenth century. Have the books of greece as a perpetual memorial and copies. There have been since the time that they were written. But you need not go to athens to procure them nor would you find them in athens. Strange to say strange to the nineteenth century that in the age of plato and few sides there was not it is said a bookshop in the whole place nor was the book in existence till the very time of augustus libraries i suspect were the bright invention of analysts or the ptolemies. I doubt whether athens had a library. Till the reign of hadrian. It was what the student gazed on what he heard what he caught by the magic of sympathy. Not what he read. Which was the education furnished by athens. He leaves his narrow lodging early in the morning and not till night. if even then will he return. It is but a crib or kennel. In which he sleeps when the weather is inclement or the ground damp in no respect a home and he goes out of doors not to read the day's newspaper or two by the gay schilling volume but to imbibe the invisible atmosphere of genius and to learn by heart. At another time there was so fierce. A feud between what would be called town and gown in an english university that the professors did not dare lecture in public for fear of ill-treatment but a freshman like you napi assumed got experience for himself of the ways and manners prevalent in athens. "Now if you experienced at all there seems to be consensus around this like i want to say michelle. Obama even wrote about it in her book. What a black students who are in route to a medical degree get strongly encouraged by counselors and advisors to not do it. Have you heard of this phenomenon has happened to you. I have not heard this. And i also i haven't experienced it either. No one's discouraged me on that. I'm wondering if that's before they get to college. Possibly if students are like exploring the possibilities of what to go into when you said that the immediate thought that came to mind was what malcolm x. was discouraged to become as a child when they asked them. Hey what do you want to be and when you think about systemic racism oppression that stuff. A lot of it has nothing to do with physical fighting but has everything to do with what happens mentally to get you to accept whatever definition. They are trying to put upon you. What did he originally wanna be. I don't remember exactly. But i think it might have been a lawyer or something like that knowing it would have been a good lawyer. But it's one of those things where you say you. So damn you know when i went to college after i came home from prison bumped into master teachers. My most impactful teacher was a student of dr john. Henry clarke and i think dr john henry clogged is taught. You know the fact that he was professor maradas hunter college in. He had people under him who were not so talk ahead to go to school to get educated. They're getting their education in addition to what they had under him so with regards to master teachers. What i found was that in educational environments that are breeding ground for success. They have specific things right it. A student to teacher ratio is a balance that you find in a lot of private schools but in public schools. You don't find a lot of people fall through the cracks but with the master teachers. They didn't get the opportunity to look at the child and see the child's gifts that they're exhibiting

"He is the one true christ. It was an expectation of this great messiah. The chosen people the jews or israelites or hebrews for these are different names for the same people looked out from age to age. He was to come to set all things right and next to this great question which occupied their minds mainly when was he to come was the question who was to be his mother. It had been told them from the first noth- that he should come from heaven but that he should be born of a woman. At the time of the fall of adam god had said that the seed of the woman should bruise the serpent's head who then was to be that woman thus significantly pointed out to the fallen race of adam at the end of many centuries it was further revealed to the jews that the great messiah or christ the seed of the woman should be born of their race and of one particular tribe of the twelve tribes into which that race was divided from that time. Every woman of that tribe hoped to have the great privilege of herself being the mother of the messiah or christ for its duration since he was so great the mother must be great and good and blessed to hence it was among other reasons that they thought so highly of the marriage state because not knowing the mystery of the miraculous conception of the christ when he was actually to come they thought that the marriage right was the ordinance necessary for his coming hence was if mary had been as other women she would have longed for marriage as opening on her the prospect of bearing the great king. The chain was to humble and too pure for such thoughts. She had been inspired to choose that better. Way of serving. God which had not been made known to the jews the state of virginity. She preferred to be his spouse to being his mother. Accordingly when the angel gabriel announced to her her high destiny shrank from it till she was assured that it would not oblige her to revoke her purpose of a virgin life devoted to her. God thus was it that she became the mother of the christ not in that way which pious women for so many ages had expected him but declining the grace of such maternity she gained it by means of a higher grace and this is the full meaning of saint elizabeth's words when the blessed virgin came to visit her which we use in the hail mary. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of the womb and therefore it is that in the devotion called the crown of twelve stars. We give praise to god the holy ghost through whom she was both virgin and mother. Mary is the mater salvatori. He's the mother of the savior here again. We must understand what is meant by calling lord savior saviour in order to understand why it is used to form one of the titles given to mary in her litany the special name by which our lord was known before his coming was as we found that of messiah or christ thus he was known to the jews but when he actually showed himself on earth he was known by three new titles the son of god the son of man and the saviour the first expressive of his divine nature the second of his human the third of his personal office thus the angel who appeared to mary called him the son of god the angel who appeared to joseph called him jesus which means in english savior and so the angels to cold him a savior when they appeared to the shepherds but he himself specially calls himself the son of man. Not angels only call him savior but those two greatest of the apostles saint peter and saint paul in their first preachings. Saint peter's says he is prince and a savior and saint. Paul says a savior jesus and both angels and apostles. Tell us why he is so called because he has rescued us from the power of the evil spirit and from the guilt and misery of our sins thus the angel says to joseph thou shalt call his name jesus for he shall save his people from their sins and saint peter god has exalted him to be prince and savior to give repentance to israel and remission of sins and he says himself the son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost now. Let us consider how this affects our thoughts of mary to rescue slaves from the power of the enemy implies a conflict our lord because he was a savior was a war year. He could not deliver the captives without a fight nor without personal suffering. Now who are they who especially hate wars a heathen poet answers wars. He says or hated by mothers. Mothers are just those who especially suffer in war. They may glory in the honor gained by their children but still such glorying does not wipe out one particle of the long pain the anxiety the suspense the desolation and the anguish which the mother reversal feels so. It was with mary for thirty years. She was blessed with the continual presence of her son name she had him in subjection but the time came when that war called for him for which he had. Come upon earth certainly. He came not simply to be the son of mary but to be the savior of men and therefore at length. He parted from her. She knew then what it was to be. The mother of a soldier who left her side. She saw him no longer. She tried in vain to get near him. He had for years lived in her embrace. And after that at least in her dwelling but now in his own words the son of man has nowhere to lay his head and then when you had run out she heard of his arrest his mock trial and his passion at last she got near him when and where on the way to calvary and when he had been lifted upon the cross and length she held him again in her arms yes when he was dead crew he rose from the dead but still she did not thereby gain him for he ascended on high and she did not at once. Follow him no. She remained on earth many years in the care. Indeed of his dearest apostle saint john but what was even the holiest of men compared with her own son and him the son of god. Oh holy mary. Mother of our saviour in this meditation. We have now suddenly passed from the joyful mysteries to the sorrowful from gabriel's enunciation to the to the.

"Being deceived. Mary is the newel. Cheney the gate of heaven. mary is. Cool the gate of heaven because it was through her that our lord passed from heaven to earth. The prophet ezekiel prophesying of mary. Sands the gate shall be closed. It shall not be opened and no man shall pass through it. Since the lord god of israel has entered through it and it shall be closed for the prince. The prince himself shall sitting it now. This is fulfilled not only in our lord having taken flesh from her and being her son but moreover in that she had a place in the economy of redemption it is fulfilled in her spirit and will as well as in her body. Eve had a part in the fall of man though it was adam who was representative and who sinned made us sinners. It was eve who began and who tempted adam scripture says. The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and fair to the eyes and delightful to behold and she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and to her husband and he did eat. It was fitting. Then in god's mercy that as the woman began the destruction of the world so woman should also begin its recovery and that as eve opened the way for the fatal deed of the first atom so merry should open the way for the great achievement of the second adam even our lord jesus christ who came to save the world by dying on the cross for it hence. Mary is called by the holy father's a second and a better eve. As having taken that. I stabbed in the salvation of mankind which eve took in. Its ruin how and. When did mary take part. And the initial part in the world's restoration it was when the angel gabriel came to her to announce to her great dignity which was to be her portion saint. Paul bidzos present our bodies to god as a reasonable service. We must not only pray with our lips and fast and do outward pennants and be chased in our bodies but we must be obedient and pure in our minds and so as regards the blessed virgin. It was god's will that she should undertake willingly and with full understanding to be the mother of our lord and not to be a mere passive instrument whose maternity would have no merit and no reward. The higher our gifts the heavier. He's it was no light lot to be so intimately near to the redeemer of men as she experienced afterwards when she suffered with him therefore weighing well the angels words before giving her answer to them i she asked whether so great an office would be a forfeiture of that virginity which she had vowed when the angel told her no then with the full consent of a full heart. Fool of god's love to her and her own loneliness she said behold the handmade of the lord be done unto me. According to the word it was by this consent that she became the gate of heaven. Mary is the motto. Create aures the mother of the creator. This is a title which of all others wishing have fought it impossible for any creature to possess at foresight. We might be tempted to say that it throws into confusion our primary ideas of the creator and the creature the eternal and the temporal the self subsisting and the dependent and the ad on further consideration. We shall see that we cannot refuse. Tidal to marry without denying the divine incarnation. That is the greet and fundamental truth of revelation. That god became man and this was seen from the first age of the church. Christians were accustomed from the first to call the blessed virgin the mother of god because they saw that it was impossible to deny her that title without denying saint. John's words the word that is god. The son was made flesh and in no long time it was found necessary to proclaim this truth by the voice of an ecumenical council of the church for in consequence of the dislike have mystery the error sprang up that our lord was not really god but man differing from us in this merely that god dwelt in him as god dwells in all good men only in higher measure as the holy spirit dwelt in angels and prophets. As in a sort of temple or again as our lord now dwells in the tabernacle in church and then the bishops and faithful people found. There was no other way of hindering. This false bad video being taught but by declaring distinctly and making it a point of faith that mary was the mother not of men only but of god and since that time the title of mary as mother of god has become what is called a dogma or article of faith in the church but this leads us to a larger view of the subject. Is this title as given to mary. More wonderful than the doctrine that god without ceasing to be god should become men. Is it more mysterious. That mary should be mother of god than that. God should be man yet. The latter as i have said is the elementary truth of revelation witnessed by prophets evangelists and apostles all through scripture. And what can be more consoling and joyful than the wonderful promises which follow from this truth that mary is the mother of god. The great wonder namely that we become the brethren of our god that if we live well and die in the grace of god we shall all of us hereafter be taken up by our incarnate god to that place where angels dwell that our bodies shall be raised from the dust and be taken to heaven that we shall be really united to god that we shall be partake of the divine nature that each of us soul and body shall be plunged into the abyss of glory which surrounds the almighty that we shall see him and share his blessedness. According to the text who so ever shall do the will of my father that is in heaven. The same is my brother and sister and mother. Mary is the motto christine. The mother of christ each of the titles of mary has its own special meaning in drift and may be made the subject of a distinct meditation. She is invoked by us as the mother of christ. What is the force of thus addressing. Her it is to bring before us that she it is whom from the i was prophesied of and associated with the hopes and prayers of all holy men of old true worshippers of god of all who looked for the redemption of israel in every age before that redemption came. Our lord was called the christ or the messiah by the jewish prophets and the jewish people. The two words christ and messiah mean the same. They mean an english. The anointed in the old time there were three great ministries or offices by means of which god spoke to his chosen people the israelites or as they were afterward called the jews that of priest that of king and that of prophet those who were chosen by god for one or other of these offices were solemnly anointed with oil or oil signifying the grace of god which was given to them for the due performance of their high duties but our lord was all three a priest prophet and king a priest because he offered himself as a sacrifice for our sins a prophet because he revealed to us the holy law of god and king because he rules over us thus.

"The two archangels. Who have a special office in. The gospel are saint michael and saint gabriel and they. Both of them are associated in the history of the incarnation with mary. Saint gabriel when the holy ghost came down upon her and saint michel when the divine child was born. Saint-gabriel hailed her as full of grease and has blessed among women and announced to her that the holy ghost would come down upon her and she would bear a son who would be the son of the highest of saint michael's ministry to her on the birth of that divine son. We learn in the apocalypse written by the apostle saint john. We know our lord came to set up the kingdom of heaven among men and hardly was he born when he was assaulted by the powers of the world who wished to destroy him. Herod sought to take his life but he was defeated by saint joseph's carrying his mother and him off into egypt but seen john in the apocalypse tells us that michael and his angels were the real guardians of mother and child then and on other occasions. I saint. john saw envision a great sign in heaven meaning by heaven the church or kingdom of god a woman clothed with the sun and with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars and when she was about to be delivered of her child. There appeared a great red dragon. That is the evil spirit ready to devour her son when he should be born. The son was preserved by his own divine power but next the evil spirit persecuted for saint michel however and his angels came to the rescue and prevailed against him. There was a great battle. Says the sacred writer michael and his angels fought with the dragon and the dragon fought and his angels and that great dragon was cast out the old serpent who is called the devil now as then the blessed mother of god has hosts of angels. Who do her service. And she is their queen. Mary is the specula- mu st ti. The mirror of justice. Hugh i we must consider what is meant by justice for the word is used by. The church has not that sense which bears an ordinary english by justice is not meant the virtue of fairness equity uprightness in our dealings but it is a word denoting all virtues at once a perfect virtuous state of soul righteousness or moral perfection. So that it answers very nearly two what is meant by sanctity therefore when our lady is called the mirror of justice in his meant to say that she is the mirror of sanctity. Holiness supernatural goodness next. What is meant by calling her a mirror a mirror is a surface which reflects as stillwater polished steel or a looking glass. What did mary reflect. She reflected our lord but he is infinite sanctity she then as far as a creature could reflected his divine sanctity and therefore she is the mirror of sanctity or as litany says of justice. Do we ask how. She came to reflect his sanctity. It was by living with him. We see every day. How like people get to each other. Who live with those. They love when they live with those whom they don't love as for instance the members of family who quarrel with each other then the longer they live together the more unlike each other they become the when they love each other as husband and wife parents and children brothers with brothers or sisters friends with friends then in course of time they get surprisingly like each other all of us perceive this we are witnesses to it with our own eyes and ears in the expression of their features in their voice in their walk in their language even in their handwriting became like each other and so with regard to their minds as in their opinions though tastes their pursuits and again doubtless in the state of their souls which we do not see whether for good or for bad now. Consider that. Mary loved her divine son within unutterable love and considered to. She had him all to herself for thirty years. Do we not see that as she was full of grace before she conceived in her womb. She must have had a vast incomprehensible sanctity when she had lived close to god for thirty years. A sanctity of an angelic order reflecting. Back the attributes of god with the fullness and exactness of which no saint upon earth or hermit or holy virgin can even remind us cruelly. Then she is. The specula- did see the mirror of divine perfection. Merry is the set as soppy. Nci the seat of wisdom. Mary has this title in her litany. Because the son of god who is also called in scripture the word and wisdom of god once dwelt in her and then after his birth of her was carried in her arms and seated in her lab in his first years less being as it were the human thrown of him who reigns in heaven. She is called the seat of wisdom in the poet's weren't his throne thy bosom blessed mother under filed that thrown if ought beneath the skies. Besim the senlis child but the possession of her son lasted beyond his infancy. He was under her rule. As saint. luke tells us and lived with her in her house till he went forth to preach that is for at least a whole thirty years and this brings us to a reflection about her cognitive to that which was suggested to by the title of mirror of justice for if such close and continued intimacy with her son created in her sanctity inconceivably. Great must not also the knowledge which she gained during those many years from his conversation of present past and future have been so large and so profound and so diversified and so thorough that though she was a poor woman without human advantages she must in her knowledge of creation of the universe and of history have excelled the greatest of philosophers and in her theological knowledge the greatest of theologians and in her prophetic discernment the most favored of prophets. What was the grand theme of conversation between her and her son. But the nature the attributes the providence and the works of almighty god would not our lord be ever glorifying the father who sent him would he not unfold to her the solemn eat decrees and the purposes and will of god would he not from time to time in light in her in all those points of doctrine which have been i discussed and then settled in the church from the time of the apostles till now and all shall be till the end navies and far more than these all that is obscure all that is fragmentary in revelation would so far as the knowledge is possible to men be brought out to her in clearness and simplicity by him. Who is the light of the world and so of the events which are to come. God spoke to the prophets. We have his communications to them in scripture but he spoke to them configure and parable. There was one moses to whom he vouchsafed to speak face to face if there be among you a prophet of the lord. God says i will appear to him in a vision and i will speak to him in a dream but it is not so with my servant moses for i will speak to him mouth to.

"It's that time of year again. Lent his arrived in some ways. Perhaps it may feel like lent never really ended. It was during lent last year. After all that we saw the onset of covid nineteen lockdowns many aspects of which persist in one way or another nearly everywhere. Thank god my family. And i were able to attend mass receive ashes on ash. Wednesday lent is always a time of penitence. But somehow this year that mandate feels more pronounced even than it did last year in many important respects not necessarily having to do with covid. Nineteen things in the world seem to have gotten worse at least in the united states on the other hand in face of what is at times pretty overwhelming evil. It can become easier to take stock instead of the evil in my own heart to leverage my frustration with the things in the world that i cannot control to instead resolve to repent to be frightened not at developments in the world but as newman puts it in today's reading frightened at ourselves as inland so to is penitence. The focus of the sermon given by newman some years before his conversion to catholicism in it he addresses a topic too often neglected the consequence of sin of single. Sin at that. Even for catholics. It can at times be all too easy simply to go to confession received and to forget that certain consequences. Remain that reparations. Remain to be made. The work of penitence is ongoing and even when we do attend to the consequences of sin above all to the harm that are seen inflicts upon jesus. These consequences can sometimes feel far removed. Considered only in the abstract in this. To newman sermon can be beneficial by looking at the moral consequence of single sin noon considers since consequence in an imminent concrete light able to stir us from complacency indeed. The sermon reads at times almost like an examination of conscience. Hope that this reading can be such for us as we undertake this great penitent task at.

David Byrne on Turning 'American Utopia' Into a Book

"David byrne joins us now. He is of course the musician. The filmmaker visual artist and here primarily as an author of a new book. American utopia. he wrote it. And it's illustrated together with myra common david thank you so much for being here. Thank you this is obviously tied to a larger project began as a concert. Tour than a broadway show now. A film directed by spike lee and simultaneously a book. Can you talk to us a little bit for those who aren't familiar with american utopia which i feel like. I don't know who those people are at this point. But tell us about how you conceived of the project and the various forms in which it's appeared and was it all like known from the beginning that would be in these multiple formats going backwards. No it was not conceived from the beginning that would be all these multiple formats. I didn't imagine. In the beginning. That it would end up on broadway that that would be filmed serve one thing leads into another okay so in the beginning i imagined wanted to see if i could do a show where all the band members were mobile taught. The technology might have arrived where that would be possible. And it also required that i would have a sufficient budget because that would mean i would have to turn say drummer into six different players. All playing drum and percussion instruments like a drumline or a samba. School of something. Like got and i realized okay. That's more personnel. Can afford that a could. I went ahead with this. Which opened up opportunities for staging and choreography and movement and then lighting and everything else just follow. Once one thing was kinda complicated or decided then door would open. And you go okay. That means it then we can do this. And now i can do this except etcetera so some point during the tour. I kind of got wind that broadway producers had seen the show and thought probably i'm going to guess in response to the success of bruce springsteen's show people thought. Oh this can go to broadway. This could go to broadway in broadway. Audiences are ready for this kind of thing now. This is a thing that can be done very very different than bruce springsteen's show. But i think the idea was that whatever popular music contemporary music could work on broadway thing just didn't have to be all broadway music. I wrote additional things for the broadway version extended it reshaped it unused broadway. Audience would kind of come with different sets of expectations but also kind of opportunity for me to talk more to kind of shape the show in a different way kind of address things that you may not addressing a concert tour where people basically just wanna dance and have a lot of fun. The director alex timbers was helping out and he said david you know you could maybe have a a drop curtain here and that in a certain kind of way when the audience is coming in and staring at the stage and the curtain is down in some ways you can have an image that sort of prepares them and in a little bit in a way for what's coming and tear. Myra coleman yes and alex showed me kind of an old graphic. Did he probably got off the internet. That was sort of like the fifty states and what each state is known for and this may be done like in the forties or fifties or something like that. It's a school thing. What were your favorite states. Because you're laughing. I'm laughing laughing because you know you can imagine the some corn and some of them mining or of them are cattle. Oh yes and so. It was also folklore folklore from each state. So the be paul bunyan or casey jones. John henry all these american kind of bits and legends were in there. And i thought okay in wanna do that exactly but i thought that's a nice direction. Thank you alex. So i went to myra who i'd worked with before many many many years ago and said would you be interested in doing drawings and paintings for this curtain.

"Feast of Saint John Henry Newman everyone. Today is a very special day for Catholic. Culture audiobooks were celebrating not only are patrono feast, but also marking the anniversary of this podcast launch. A some of you may recall our very first episode was released on October Thirteenth two thousand nineteen the very day of Saint John Henry Newman's canonization. We launched our audiobook series that day with the reading of Newman's the salvation of the hearer, the motive of the preacher. We may as well of titled It, the Salvation of the hearer, the motive of the podcast her. While today's reading is similarly significant for us and comes from a larger work of Newman's entitled lectures on the present position of Catholics in England. What was the position of Catholics in England then would seem in many ways to resemble the present position of Catholics throughout the West now. Newman was writing against the backdrop of resurgence of Anti Catholicism throughout England in eighteen fifty pope pious the ninth and set up several Roman Catholic dioceses in England and Wales and the Catholic emancipation legislation had been passed earlier in the nineteenth century and bias had been careful not to use any of the ancient Ecclesia titles in use by. Many England bristled at the thought of a Catholic Bishop of Westminster where else? It was characterized as papal aggression and serious anti-catholic riots took place in Liverpool and other cities. Guy Fawkes Day of that year even saw several cases of violence against Catholics. This led ultimately to the ecclesiastical titles act of eighteen, fifty one which made it a criminal offence for anyone outside the Church of England to US Episcopal titles of any city town or place whatsoever within the. United. Kingdom. Newman's lectures would be delivered shortly thereafter. anti-catholic Catholic hysterics government overstep. Without putting too fine a point on it the parallels between the historical context in which Newman was writing, and that of our own would suggest that those duties of the Catholic are still relevant today. and Oh Newman is responding to an institutional prejudice born specifically of an established protestantism. Words in many cases can be applied equally as well to that prejudice born of secularized liberalism to say nothing of the modern West's own Protestant roots as well particularly in the United States. This is the last nine lectures which Newman gave on the subject the previous eight of which thankfully newman summarizes at the outset of this lecture painting a picture of the entrenched prejudice throughout English. Society Opposition found elite institutions reinforced in education propagated by the media confirmed by the government. Newman's response to this only insurmountable juggernaut of anti. Catholic. Sentiment however is disarmingly simple. Become known. A task as practical as it is demanding at once encouraging and challenging. Catholic belief is increasingly characterized as bigoted hateful counter to the pillars of respectable society. As Newman says, they've done their worst. Newman puts so-called public opinion popular or metropolitan opinion into its place. His comments here are it seems to me especially worth considering in this age of social media and online outrage. At All Times Newman says the lady have been the measure of the Catholic spirit. For Newman it is the lady who need to know the faith to Know History to vindicate the Church in the Public Square. Newman also exhorts Catholics to be straightforward, generous and forbearing in spite of provocation. Interpret the actions of all. He says in the best sense that you possibly can. A maximum well worth remembering when sensationalist headlines insults and calumnies are the currency of the day. Finally, Newman observes that the first ages of the church were also marked by derision and contempt. Like that age hours may perhaps not be an age of great and iconic saints, but instead an age of martyrs. Newman is not being an alarmist or preaching doom and gloom rather his as he puts it our thoughts to comfort and sustain us. As mentioned were releasing this episode on the Feast of Saint John Henry Newman, and just as in our first episode, we made his words a kind of mission statement for the PODCAST. So to do we take up, Newman's challenge in this lecture and reaffirm our mission of Catholic renewal. To you our listeners whether those of you who are new or those who have been with us all year. Looking back on this previous year in gratitude to God and to you our listeners I'd like to end this lengthy introduction by making my own the prayer with which Newman ends his lecture in today's reading. What can I desire in pray for but this? But what I have said well, maybe blessed to those who have heard it. "Of the glories of Mary. Founding discourses mixed dishes. Written by John Henry Newman. Narrated by James. Scheme. You may recollect my brethren. Our Lord's words went on the day of his resurrection. He had joined the two disciples on their way to amass and found them sad and perplexed in consequence of his death. He said. Ought not Christ to suffer these things and so enter into his glory. He appealed to the fitness and congruity which existed between this otherwise surprising event and the other truths which had been revealed concerning the divine purpose of saving the world. And so two Saint Paul in speaking of the same wonderful appointment of God. It became him he says four, whom are all things and through whom are all things who had brought many sons unto glory to consummate the author of their salvation by suffering. Elsewhere. Speaking of prophesying or the exposition of what is late in divine truth. He bids his brethren, exercise the gift according to the analogy or rule of faith that is so that the doctrine preached may correspond fit into what is already received. Thus you see it is a great evidence of truth in the case of revealed teaching that it is so consistent that it's so hangs together that one thing springs out of another that each part requires and is required by the rest. This great principle which is exemplified. So variously in the structure and history of Catholic doctrine, which will receive more and more illustrations. The more carefully minute we examine the subject is brought before us especially at this season when we are celebrating the assumption of our blessed lady, the mother of God into heaven. We receive it on the belief of ages, but viewed in the light of reason, it is the fitness of this termination of her earthly course, which so persuasively recommends it to our minds. We feel it ought to be that it becomes her lord son thus to provide for one who was so singular and special both in herself and her relations to him. We find that it is simply in harmony with the substance and main outlines of the doctrine of the incarnation and that without it Catholic teaching would have a character of incompleteness and would disappoint our pious expectations. Let us direct our thoughts to this subject today, my brethren and with a view of helping you to do so I will I state what the Church has taught and defined from the first ages concerning the blessed virgin, and then you will see how naturally the devotion which are children's show her and the praises with which they owner her follow from it. Now, as you know, it has been held from the first and defined from an early age that Mary is the mother of God. She is not merely the mother of our Lord's manhood or of our Lord's body. But she is to be considered the mother of the word himself the word incarnate. God in the person of the word, the second person of the all glorious trinity humbled himself to become her son. Non Horowitz de Virgin, eastern terrorism as sings. Thou didst not disdain the Virgin's womb. He took the substance of his human flesh from her and clothed in it. He lay within her. And he board about with him after birth as a sort of badge witness that he though God was hers. He was nursed intended by her he was suckled by her. He lay in her arms. As time went on, he ministered to her and obeyed her he lived with her for thirty years in one house with an uninterrupted intercourse in with only the saintly Joseph to share it with him. She was the witness of his growth of his joys of his sorrows. Of His prayers. She was blessed with his smile with the touch of his hand with the whisper of his affection would the expression of his thoughts and his feelings for that length of time Now my brethren. What ought she to be? What is it becoming that she should be who was so favored? Such a question was once asked by a heathen king when he would place one of his subjects in dignity becoming the relation in which the latter stood towards him. That subject had saved the king's life. and. What was to be done to him in return The king asked. What should be done to the man whom the King desirous to honor and. He received the following answer. The man whom the king wishes to honor ought to be clad in the king's apparel and to be mounted on the king's saddle and to receive the Royal Diadem on his head. And let the first among the Kings Princes Presidents hold his horse and let him walk through the streets of the city and say. Thus shall be honored whom the king half a mind to honor. So stands the case with Mary. She gave birth to the Creator and what recompense shall be made her. What shall be done to her who had this relationship to the most high? What shall be fit accompaniment of one whom the Almighty has deigned to make not his servant. Friend. Not his intimate. But his superior. The source of his second being. The nurse of his helpless infancy. The teacher of his opening years. I answer as the king was answered. Nothing is too high for her to whom God owes his human life. No exuberance of grace. No Excess of glory but is becoming but is to be expected there where God has launched himself. Whence God has issued. Let her be clad in the king's apparel that is let the fullness of the God head. So flow into her that she may be a figure of the incommunicable sanctity and beauty and glory of God himself. That she may be the mirror of justice the mystical rose the tower of ivory, the House of gold, the morning star. Let. Her receive the Kings Diadem upon her head as the Queen of Heaven, the mother of all living the health of the week, the refuge of sinners, the comforter of the afflicted. And let the first amongst the kings princes walked before her let angels and prophets and Apostles and martyrs, and all saints kissed the Hem of her garment and rejoice under the shadow of her throne. Thus is it that King Solomon has risen up to meet his mother and bound himself onto her and caused a seat to be set for the king's mother and she sense on his right hand? We should be prepared. Then my brethren to believe that the mother of is full of grace and glory from the very fitness of such a dispensation even though we had not been taught it and this fitness will appear still more clear and certain when we contemplate the subject more steadily. Consider. Then that it has been the ordinary rule of God's dealings with us that personal sanctity, the attendant upon high spiritual dignity of place or work. The angels who as the word imports are God's messengers are also perfect in holiness. Without Sanctity, no one shall see.

"Here, we are. This. Marks Catholic, Culture Audiobooks Fiftieth audiobook release. So who better to hear from than from our patron saint saint. John Henry Newman. And to celebrate this milestone accomplishment, but better topic than that of the danger of accomplishments. In this sermon, which comes from volume to of Newman's parochial and plain sermons, Newman is not so much talking about accomplishment in the sense of a particular achievement or success. But rather to be accomplished in the sense of being skilled or proficient. Better yet, clever or sophistications particularly with respect to the arts. And be sure accomplishment understood in this sense is no less relevant to the work of this podcast. We've always conceived of this project. In artistic terms. Indeed in this sermon Newman reserves particularly strong warning for stage players and orators, who as he observes, can grow accustomed to speaking noble thoughts without actually having to undertake noble action. It's this danger of separating feeling from acting which newman warns against. What not be sad that we simply entertained ourselves merely listening to or merely reading the fine sentiments expressed in the great works featured on this podcast. Rather, let us as Newman says apply all we read to ourselves from the Mir, sincerity and honesty of our desire to please God. Thank you for accompanying us on this episode. "So says the Holy Psalmist doubtless and inspired prophet saw far more clearly than we can see the madness of of men in squandering that treasurer upon sin which is meant to buy their chief good but if so what must this madness appear. In God's sight what an inveterate malignant evil is in the hearts of the sons of men that thus lead them to sit down to eat and drink and rise up to play when time is is hurrying on and judgment coming. We have been told what he thinks of man's on belief the we cannot enter into the depths of his thoughts. He showed it to us in act and deed as far as we could receive it when he even sent his only begotten Son into the world as at this time to redeem us us from the world which must surely was not lightly done and we also learn his thoughts about it from the words of that most Merciful Son which most Shirley were not lightly spoken the wicked he says shall go into everlasting punishment. Oh that there were such a heart in us that we would fear God and keep his commandments. Always but it is of no use to speak men no their duty. They will not do it. They say they do not need or wish to be told it that. It is an intrusion and rudeness to tell them of death and judgment so must it be and we who have to speak to them must submit to this speak speak. We must as an act of duty to God whether they will hear or not and then must leave our words as a witness other means for rousing them we have none. We speak from Christ our gracious Lord Their Redeemer who has already pardoned them freely yet they will not follow him with a true heart art and what can be done. More another year is now opening upon us. It speaks to the thoughtful and his heard by those who have expecting eight years and watch for Christ's coming the former year is gone it is dead therein lies in the grave of pastime not to decay however and be forgotten but kept in the view of God's Omniscience with all the sins and errors irrevocably written till at length it will be raised again to testify testify about us at the last day and who among us can bear the thought of his own doings in the course of it all that he has said and done all that has been conceived within his mind or been acted on and all that he has not said and done which it was a duty to say or do what. A dreary prospect seems seems to be before us when we reflect that we have the solemn word of truth pledged to us in the last and most awful revelation which God has made to us about the future that in that day the books will be opened and another book opened which is the book of life and the dead judged out of those things which were written in the books according to their works. What would a man give any one of us who has any real insight into his polluted and miserable state? What would he give to tear away? Some of the leaves their preserved for how heinous or the sins therein written think of the multitude of sins done by us. Since we I knew the difference between right and wrong we have forgotten them but there we might read them clearly recorded. Well May Holy David Exclaim. Remember not the sins of my youth nor my transgressions. According to the mercy remember me conceive to the multitude of sins which have so grown into us as to become part of us and in which we now live not knowing or but partially knowing that they are sins habits habits of pride. Self reliance self conceit soul inness impurity sloth selfishness worldliness the history of all all these their beginnings and their growth is recorded in those dreadful books and when we look forward to the future. How many sins shall we have committed by this this time next year the we try ever so much to know our duty and overcome ourselves? Nee or rather shall we have the opportunity of obeying were disobeying so being God for a year longer. Who knows whether by that time? A recount may not be closed forever. Remember me Oh Lord when Thou calmest calmest into the Kingdom. Such was the prayer of the penitent thief on the Cross. The such must be our prayer. Who can do us? Any good would let he who shall also be our judge. When shocking thoughts about ourselves come across US and afflict us? Remember me this is all we have to say. We have no work nor device nor knowledge nor wisdom of our own to better ourselves with all we can say ain't nothing to God in defense of ourselves we can bite acknowledge that we are grievous sinners and addressing him as supplements merely beg him to bear us in mind in mercy for his own sake to do us some favor not according to our deserts but for the love of Christ the more we try to serve him here the better but after all so far do we fall short of what we should be that if we had about what we are in ourselves to to rely upon wretched are we and we are forced out of ourselves by the very necessity of our condition. To whom should we go. Who can do us any good? But he who was born into this world for our regeneration was bruised for our iniquities and rose again for our justification even though we have served him from our youth up though after his pattern we have grown as far as mere men can grow in wisdom as we grew in stature. The we ever have had tender hearts and mortified will and conscientious temper an obedient spirit yet at the very best. How much have we left undone? Don How much done which ought to be otherwise what he can do for our nature in the way of sanctifying it we know indeed in a measure we we know in the case of his saints and we certainly do not know the limit of his carrying forward in those objects of his special favor the work of purification and renewal through his spirit spirit but for ourselves. We know full well that much as we may have attempted we have done very little that our very best service is nothing worth and the more we attempt the more clearly we shall see how little we have hitherto attempted. Those whom Christ saves are they who at once attempt attempt to save themselves yet to spare of saving themselves who aim to do all and confess they do not who are all love and fear who are the most holy and yet confessed themselves the most sinful whoever seek to please him yet feel they never can who are full of good works yet of works of penance. All this seems a contradiction to the natural man but it is not so to those whom Christ enlightens they understand in proportion to their illumination that it is possible to work out their salvation and yet to have it wrought out for them to fear and tremble at the thought of judgement yet to rejoice always in the Lord and and hope and pray for his coming..

"All because we have neglected those religious observances through the a year which the Church commands which we are bound to observe while by neglecting them. We have provided a sort of argument for those who have wished to do them away altogether. No party of men can keep together without stated meetings assembly. Things are we know the very life of political associations viewing being then the institutions of the church merely in a human point of view. How can we possess power as Christians if we do not and on the other hand? What great power we I should have if we did flock to the ordinances of religion present a bold face to the world and show that Christ has still servants true to him that we come to church on? Sundays is a help. This way doubtless but it would be a vastly more powerful evidence of our earnestness for the truth if we testified defied for Christ at some worldly inconvenience to ourselves which would be the case with some of us on other holy days. Can we devise a more powerful mode of preaching to minute. Large judge and one in which the most unlearn most timid among US might more easily partake of preaching Christ as a warning and remembrance. Then if all who loved the Lord Jesus Christ priced insincerity made it a practice to throng the churches on the Weekday festivals and various holy seasons allowing less religious persons the wild to make the miserable gains which greater keenness in the pursuit of this world. Certainly does secure. I have not yet mentioned the peculiar benefit to be derived from the observance of Saint's days which obviously Veasley lies in their setting before the mind patterns of excellence for us to follow in directing us to these. The church does but fulfill the design of scripture. Consider how great a part of the Bible is historical and how much of the history is merely the lives of those men who were gods instruments in their respective ages. Some of them are no patterns for us. Others show marks of the corruption under which human nature universally lies yet the chief of them are specimens of of especial faith and sanctity and are set before us with the evident intention of exciting and guiding us in our religions course such are above others was Abraham Joseph Job Moses Joshua Samuel David Elijah Jeremiah Daniel and the alike and in the New Testament the apostles and evangelists first of all and in his own incommunicable glory our blessed Lord himself give us an example but his faithful servants lead us on towards him and confirm and diversify his pattern. Now it has been the aim of our church church in her saint's days to maintain the principal and set a pattern of this peculiarly scriptural teaching and we at the present day have particular need gene. The discipline of such commemorations saint's days to recall us to ourselves. It is a fault of these times for. We have nothing to do with the faults of other times to despise despise the past in comparison of the present we can scarce open any of the lighter or popular publications of the day without falling upon some panegyric on ourselves house on the illumination and humanity of the age or upon some disparaging remarks on the wisdom and virtues of former times now it is a most salutary thing under this temptation to self conceit to be reminded that in all the highest qualifications of human excellence. We have been far out done by men who lived moved centuries ago that a standard of truth and holiness was then set up which we are not likely to reach and that as for thinking to become wiser and better or more more acceptable to God than they were. It is a mere dream here. We are taught the true value and relative importance of the various gifts of the mind the showy talents in which the present age prides itself fade away before the true metal of prophets and apostles. It's boasted knowledge is but at a shadow of power before the vigorous strength of heart which they displayed who had calmly work moral miracles as well as speak with the lips of inspired wisdom. Would that Saint Paul or Saint John could rise from the dead. How would the minute philosophers who now consider intellect and enlightened virtue all their own shrink into who nothing before those well tempered sharp edged weapons of the Lord are not we come to this? Is it not our shame. As a nation that if if not the apostles themselves at least the ecclesiastical system they devised and the order the founded are viewed with coldness and disrespect. How few who are there? Who Look with reverend interest upon the bishops of the Church as the successors of the apostles honoring them if they honor merely because they like them as individuals and not from any thought of the peculiar sacredness of their office? Well let it be. The end must one time come. It cannot be that things should standstill. Thus Christ's church is indestructible and lasting loan through all the vicissitudes of this world. She must rise again and flourish. When the poor creatures of a day who opposed her have crumbled into dust? No weapon that is formed against her shall prosper. birther rejoice not against me O.. Mine enemy when I fall I shall arise when I light right unto me in the meantime let us not forget our duty which is after the example of saints to take up our cross immediately and pray for our enemies these are thoughts suitably impressed on us on ending as we do now the yearly festivals of if the Church every year brings wonders we know not any year what wonders shall have happened before the circle of festivals has run out again from Saint Andrews to all saints. Our duty then is to wait. For the Lord's coming to prepare his way before him to pray that when he comes uh-huh we may be found watching to pray for our country for King and all in authority under him that God would vouchsafed to enlighten the understandings and change change the hearts of men in power and make them act in his faith and fear for all orders and conditions of men and especially for that branch of his church which he has planted here. Let us not forget in our lawful and fitting horror at evil men that they have souls and that they know not what they do when they oppose does the truth. Let us not forget that we are sons of sinful Adam as well as they and have had advantages to aid our faith and obedience above other other men. Let us not forget that as we are called to be saints so we are by that very calling cold to suffer and if we suffer must not think it strange concerning the fiery trial that is to try US nor be puffed up by our privilege of suffering nor or bring suffering needlessly upon us nor be eager to make out we have suffered for Christ when we have but suffered for our faults on not at all may God give us grace to act upon these rules as well as to adopt and admire them and to say nothing for saying sake but to do much and say little this has been use of saint's days founding parochial and plain sermons.

Part 3: Jeff Siegel, Ed DeRosa, James Scully

"Jeff Good Morning Good morning how you doing excellent and lots to digest. We've already talked to the J ribbon earlier this morning morning. I want to get your take on what went on about the racist we discussed last week including the the upset which I think is less shocking talking than people. The people are are feeling. It didn't seem upon further review that Mongolian groom was all that impossible well. He wants to me I mean I thought he'd run well but I I really I'd watch McKinsey working. I thought he was ready to roll. Oh and just looking at the form I thought that he would win and he he moved to the top of the stretch like he was going to pounce and then he kind of flat out and I I always had a little sense of doubt that maybe he wasn't quite amount of quarterhorse but this is only a mile and they and I was disappointed and I think Bob Baffert with two do I really was an he's made in announcement that he's going to replace my Smith with a writer that we don't know who's going to be. I'm sure all the the agents are kind of hanging around trying to throw their hat in the ring but yeah I mean I it was I mean it's it's just it's the nature of the game here. We've you see this happen a lot and perhaps the real the real important racist coming up a month from now but if you've you know food for thought as to whether or not the horse that we also at least I thought was the number one older horse in the country. is really that much better than everybody else and amount of quarter. I think it's anybody's game now fold in as well the the result at the Jockey Club Gold Cup and what did you think of the takedown and who do you favor of the two of them coming out west well. I'll tell you what that I I was kind of hoping that it didn't come down and even I thought the three year old is going to win the race going in and what am I ran well. I thought he I thought he had every chance to get by but it was a tough. It's tough to lose a race lightweight like way when push came to shove and unfortunately for her also did come to push he he hung in there I think both both of those are deserving the universal. I'd come already come out west a winner racer over the summer so we subtract and so they'll meet again it's I I. I was talking about this. The other day was Zoe on our podcast and we we were pretty much not baffled. I don't think that's the way but kind of open to in trying to figure out who might win the plastic doors so many possibilities now so many horses that look like they're capable title stepping up some of them that look good or maybe vulnerable so I duNNo. We'll be watching the next couple of three weeks to see who trains the best. Maybe maybe we can come up with a conclusion but right now now. It's really a mess we'll wait till they get the decisions. The final decisions horses like a late and late would add another wrinkle visit I think they're thinking mile and a quarter and the boys aren't that top much tougher for maybe the midnight DC would be if he ran against her again and and a mile an eighth in the in the the staff so that would that would certainly make an interesting well a couple of other thoughts jeff about last weekend the reasons we discussed filled D'Amato just a of magical a couple of days pee wee reese on Friday mirth and Cleopatra Strike in the Rodeo drive and the John Henry able to Geo Story. I keep coming back to it because what can you say and then Sunday Paradise Woods and I ask you the same question that I brought up up with Jay and I asked Sadler too Sadler Sheriff's the other day if she runs that race of the distaff she's she's a major major player and I know she's a notorious in and outer but I thought that was a terrific effort it was it was accomplished under under pristine conditions sitting right outside a speed horse with nobody all rounder nobody in front of her nobody beside her with kind of like a workout for but she did feel the deal as she finished strongly and she earned a beyer speed figure that was something like eight or nine points better than they were not that that means anything but bottom line is she ran really well now whether or not she can do that again I don't know if he pointed out not exactly your model of consistency and I thought maybe your best days were behind her but boy did she work well and I I I yeah I mean you have to go. You have to think that going into the dispatch. This definitely has a legitimate chance I mean if she decides to show up with a game the thing that we're going to start talking about Jeff when when when I'm at clockers corner and and we're watching horses work and when we analyzed the the XP TV workouts leading up to the race between you and Millie Ah Zoe is going to be fitness levels and the one thing you're not going to have to worry about John. The sheriff's Baffert and Sadler is is fitness of these horses on that racetrack and that's going to be a huge factor and I'm I'M GONNA keep referring to the east coast horses that went to del Elmar for the Pacific Classic and God drowned on that deep surface and Steve Asmussen asked me to his credit with with tenfold he learned his lesson and went out early with Mottola because he is not gonna get caught on that element he wants his horses. This is ready to travel over that surface and it's going to be something we we really focus on and then I'm sure in the recap you know after breeders Peter Scott. It's GONNA come up well down. Mars is eat but it's it's not it's not any deeper than in Santa Anita where this is not the old Santa Anita track backwards you know three quarters in eight and change all all day long I mean you have to be did fit to run on. This track is deep. You just tiring you you have to train over it. I think I think it really helps and yeah I think it's going to be very important to to to watch the works and I I do think it's going to be a great advantage for horses to get in early and get a beast of one or maybe even to work over the drag your possible because it's it's not it's it's tough. It's it's it. It's deeper than New York and Belmont Park is I'm convinced of that and I know Belmont to be called the fanny and all that but this track is is big heavy. I mean it's the faith it's safe and that's why they made it so deep but you've gotta get through it and you gotTa. That'd be fit well. Let's get set to look at the weekend and before we talk about Saturday any any day maker ideas for today well. You know it's yeah I mean I I did do a couple of San Anita and I can give the a little bit of an insight today's tough but I like the Philly name swirling in the fourth race she's not the favorite averaged five to two zero six two five in there she's a late running turf sprinter that that I that likes attending through force and they're starting to run five and a half now in the first we've got a couple now they extended the shootout there so she'd found five furlongs on this course a little stripe and she was hitting the boy and running well but just running out of room now she goes five and a half and I noticed in the few couple of five and a half long since we've had so far that the closers have a better chance and she's she's good enough to win. and I think that extra half for a long we'll give her the edge that she needs so I'm looking at number two swirling in the fourth race to kind of heightened me over for that's my play play today. It's an okay car not a great guard but I think we can we can get some value there because she's not going to be the favorite it's excellent all right swirling today and Let's let's go to the weekend and obviously the steak the steak side of things Let's talk about talk about the city of hope I because it it it really is intriguing and I brought up with Jay earlier. Jeff the mixing and matching of older horses. I mean really veteran in six seven eight year olds like synchrony and Ohio and Bolo and catapult facing off against some horses that may be emerging What's your angle in the studio? It's really hard. I handicap this this race and I came up with about four or five that on their best day could win. synchrony is intriguing to me I think he's intrinsically the best of the group but he doesn't have a lot of tactical speed and going a mile on this course even though he's running the tool aww theoretically he could maybe draft into the mid part of the mid packing and save the nangle out and get through he tends to give himself a lot to do and I remember when he came out here for the CBS del Mar last November. The same thing happened. Do that was sixteen. He fell back. He he had some traffic trouble he got. That's where we finished. Fuller Ronnie finished thirty one but but he didn't get there so I I like him at five to one at synchrony shipper I I hope he gets the trip. If he doesn't then you can make a case for a number of these. I mean looking for fifteen to one shot number four on your program. Aziz restrained vengeance. He's GonNa get loose in the lead and if he does that he can be dangerous. TAT upholds training really well but he's form doesn't look all that well you gotta go back to the Kilroy Mile Back in March the finding good but at least it was over this turf fourth and he could pop up Sadler. He's five to one the raises a bunch of the race basically is is a bunch. That's a five to one shots hoping for good luck but I think maybe if he gets through synchrony can win I wanted to I wanted to like River Boyne off the lay off and then John White made him four to one and that that cooled my ardor well you know I looked at him him and he was a very good three year old and he hasn't won at four and haven't made a lot of progress at least according to his numbers and he goes from practice and I'm looking elsewhere. Let's put it that way you know a to go back to an angle from last week as that in fact Jay also came up with and Dash the other filled D'Amato player and here's able to do who the things that just seem to be running for Jeff at at least from what we saw last week while they they ran for a golden gate when he was leading rider up there and I talked to them for a number of years actually we had horses up there and he he wrote for us always felt that he was good enough but he was kingpin up there era and then he decided to make the leap and I thought it might be tough for them but it really hasn't he's really falling favor with the with the horsemen down here and he's a strong writer but he's a good rider as far as and dishes concern. He's coming off a nice win. Del Mar.. He's obviously never beaten this this group although he did run second Mendelssohn and his racing debut of that matters which it doesn't that was way back in two thousand seventeen at the Curragh but but he's he's he's developing. He's he's coming around and the way the model is going. I mean I wouldn't put anything past him and especially in a race like this in which really there is no standout and anything can happen so hey why not wanting to watch a couple of other thoughts. what do you make of this chance Salat Omaha beach matchup the very very different set of three year olds against elders in the in the sprint championship wells twelve sheds lots four to five in the morning line because he's not only the fastest horse in the race in terms of numbers but he's also look controlling speed and he doesn't even have to go that fast my my concern was and it's kind of happened in the Jerkins a little bit then I know that the inside part of the wasn't particularly hit that day but they kinda slowdown down twenty three flat forty five and and he's fast horse and I think you gotta use his weapon and I think going three quarters. They don't have to worry too much about you. Know saving reading anything so I I would suspect he'll bust out there and go. He had a nice breeze over the track. I think Navarro did the right thing by bringing them out early and breezy had a half and forty. He's seven and one third fastest at sixty five last week and he lied did it. The right way looked like he was relaxed like he got over the track very very well so he's going to be it really hard for Omaha Beach the rundown although I my theory about Omaha beach is that he's always wanted to be a sprinter and because he was so good and all the money's going long long that Richard Mandella kept running them wrong and why wouldn't he won the rebel in the Arkansas Derby any may have even able to win the Kentucky Derby had come down with the trap Levada brought his only sprint race of his career only race of seven that he actually sprinted

Disney+ Will Reboot Four Fox Movie Franchises

"Us about disney's plans to boot several popular fox properties so disney snitch chief robert iger announced on an earnings call with investors that the studios developing several reboots and reimagining of fox's family friendly hits including being titles like home alone ninth museum dairy of wimpy kid and cheaper by the dozen and these reboots would be debuting on disney plus according to a new report from collider rider so these are fox's most recent <hes> family friendly hits apart from cheaper by the dozen which is actually slee remake in a ended of itself so and it seems like disney plus is building its titles original content to be largely reboots reboots in a sense <hes> and <hes> recognizable i._p. In addition to this there are also seeing some disney live action makes his animated films like lady and the tramp as as well as just the marvel and star wars titles but <hes> that seems to be the strategy that disney plus is going forward in the coming streaming wars. I mean that's kind kind of depressing isn't it that that disney acquired fox just to sort of push off some of these like remix fox properties onto disney plus yep <hes> they can't just have these <hes> these classics on their <hes> streaming platform as in the archives to slap the disney brand and on it and put a little twist up apparently <hes> the home alone reimagining for example would <hes> put a twist on the story and make it without a husband and wife could go to with a young boy who has stolen something from them so that's something along the lines of what will likely be seeing with these remakes interest. It's not even home alone yeah. What what a bizarre. That's like a yeah. It's a totally different concept. They could just make you know original movies themselves but you know you gotta have that i._p. I guess 'cause that's disney strategy and they're making a lot of money from it hub so brad. I was going to throw to you and say. Is there any hope that these projects addicts could be you know maybe better than we think and maybe not quite as crass as we're making them out to be but that particular <hes> synopsis or description of what they're planning to do with home alone get makes me even more worried than i was. You know thirty seconds ago do you do you even with that in mind do you. I think that there's any chance that these are going to be like worth seeking out or do you think it's just mining these properties for name recognition alone. I mean there's always a chance when it comes to stuff like this. I i've tried to be a little more understanding and less judgmental <hes> when it comes to remakes re boots. There have been some really good remake reboots. There've been some really bad remakes in reboots and so there's always a chance that they could figure something out. <hes> disney does have a lot of talented people working for for them and a lot of people who want to work for them so it wouldn't have their own possibility for you know some of these movies to work. I just wish that they would you know invest their time in making the things that really haven't been done yet or at least adapting more interesting stories that come from other you know media i see this slate the titles and i can't help but get frustrated that they scrapped the mouse guard adaptation which looked fantastic <hes> all in favor of doing you know more remakes like this so that is frustrating rating but i kind of just a wait and see scenario for me. I i don't know what to expect from the quality of these movies that will go into disney plus but i guess i'll will be hoping for the best a._t. Do we know any other like notable information about any of these particular projects or is it still too early to talk about casting and stuff like that. It's still a little too early <hes> home alone remake is a reboot is the one that we have the most information on apparently a brat scribe. Dan mazer is being i to direct the film while melissa mccarthy is reportedly being to star in it as one of the parents so so but other than that we don't know if that's settled yet
