"The Supreme Court leak of that draft document on roe versus wade I talked with the executive director of the central California right to life organization John Girardi As the card the actual opinion itself and the likelihood that this or something like it will be the Supreme Court's final opinion it's a great advancement Acknowledges that there is no constitutional right to abortion which is correct which is what the court should have held in 1973 when they issued roe V wade That roe was wrongly decided and that its successor case Planned Parenthood versus Casey from 1992 was also wrongly decided This draft opinion which I've never seen before to see a whole draft opinion leaked in its entirety to the press is kind of astonishing and it's a real problem internally for the Supreme Court But certainly I think the important thing is the indication from this leak that the Supreme Court is likely to overturn roe V wade That's the real history making kind of news from this week Now as a lawyer yourself do you think that because of the leak and justice Roberts chief justice Roberts has said an investigation of the way to determine who and how it was leaked does it affect or how does it affect the credibility of the court Well it doesn't help I think whoever leaked it was likely trying to influence the outcome in some way or to influence the political process in some way in light of what's going to be the outcome which is not good I mean whoever leaked it and there's a lot of speculation While it could have been a justice of the Supreme Court I think that's pretty unlikely It could have been one of the clerks the clerks are the superstar young lawyers who helped the individual justices with their legal research and writing And they do have access to drafts of opinion If a clerk leaked this I mean that's a huge betrayal of trust The Supreme Court's often hearing cases that impact $1 billion industries And the ability to keep their viewpoints confidential while they're in the draft stage is something really really serious and important So I mean it's a problem And I think it's a real problem if a clerk was leaking this in an attempt to manipulate what the final outcome is whether that's to try to provoke Congress into trying to pass legislation to codify roe V wade which senator Sanders and senator Klobuchar of both indicated they would support doing Or whether that's to try to convince one of the more moderate leaning justices to change his or her vote Either way it's a horrible abuse of the trust that people who work at the Supreme Court should be safeguarding John if in fact the final decision does result in the striking down of roe versus wade from 1973 what do you foresee the state's doing across the country I think the pro life states will possibly just allow their old pre 1973 abortion statutes to come back into effect a lot of them A lot of them have these laws that were on the book on the books in 1973 and rose sort of prevented them from being enforced and probably a lot of them will just come back to life again and most states have laws banning abortion except in certain circumstances to save the mother's life So I could see as you can see dozens of states either passing new laws or reinstating their coming back into letting their old laws come back into effect However I could see pro choice states doing what California's doing California is aggressively going the other direction and basically wanting to become a magnet for people in states where abortion will be illegal to have California become a destination for them to come to just to have an abortion So have the state pay for their travel have the same pay for their lodging have the state provide out of state persons with medical coverage They can have abortions here They've already passed a law to eliminate all co pays and deductibles for abortion So it's no cost out of pocket for anyone in California once an abortion Governor Newsom had already said he wants California to be a sanctuary state for abortion So it's going to prompt pro life states to finally take the legislative action against abortion that they have that they should have been taking this whole time And it's going to prompt I think blue states to do ever more extreme radical measures when it comes to public funding and supported abortion That's John Girardi the executive director of the central California right to life organization I'm clever to go news Californians have worked really hard.

"Then Jason Williams of the inquire takes over and he will take you all the way till midnight. Well, I'm all excited about our next guest. We used to cover Reds games as back up beat writers. When we saw each other in the press box that Riverfront Stadium, we knew it was going to be Armageddon. John Girardi, author retired from The Cincinnati Enquirer. But always, Mr Baseball. How are you, sir? Great. I can't recall the guy's name, but somebody said the R B I record for a single game. I think they beat Jim Bottomley is records something of former Red future Hall of Famer, but, yeah, it was crazy. Every night. We're down there. Check. It was never a normal night. I don't know why it is something about the DNI. A of you and I get together just created fireworks. And I think we were there The night off. Eric Davis is cycle. If I remember correctly, No, no, no question about it was really one of the highlight games that ever seen because Frank Robinson had one of those in the very fact that Eric was able to pull that off. I mean, he was the type of player that way would say. He's going to do this, and he sure as heck did, But it was still so exciting to watch out that night. No doubt, no doubt. And John when you hear the words, Hank Aaron, Man, what are some You can't talk about him without Hyperbole. I mean his records when he retired, he had the record for records held. I mean, the guy was just amazing. Yeah. I mean, he think why I know it's number one all time until the basis, But the incredible thing is he's 722 total bases ahead of the number two guy. Was staying usual and that's two or three Good seasons. So you know so many great numbers with him. Chick One of my favorites is number one and runs an RB eyes. He's really a good base runner. Much better base stealers and people gave him credit for On when he went into the Hall of Fame in 82 with Frank Robinson. My gosh, she got 97 20% of owning the only guy that beat that in baseball history until that time was Ty Cobb. And, of course, Tom Seaver and other great to passed on last year, he cooked them all before Griffey Junior took the top spot, but My gosh, Everything he did was great. The longevity that consistency and my favorite thing with about him was in that game. That career tying home run since today. We're Marty made the call in his first year is a Reds broadcaster. So a lot of fun memories of Henry the one thing that I am proud to say that I didn't get to talk to Henry that much. But for some reason, I was able to get ahold of him. When when Marge Schott was up to her, you know, terrible racist comments back against the 92. Henry Henry Aaron was the first guy to call for his call for her suspension. And sure enough, I mean that story. That time I wrote it. Was kind of buried in the back of the paper. But by the time he came out of Henry's mouth, and it was getting around the country, it became a top story. So Henry was the type of guy that even we may have been eclipsed by Willie Mays in terms of the showmanship and the flamboyant to me. I mean, you could make a great case chick that this guy's the greatest baseball player of all time. You certainly can. And man he did it with gosh, just with with grace and dignity, and just there's a nobility about the guy. That, uh, man I can think of like Mohammed. We hand on a Hank Aaron. Wow, The list is the list is pretty short. It's It's interesting. I think Cincinnati fans would appreciate this is that The only difference really, between Frank Robinson and Henry years his longevity. Henry had a longer career. But if you look at their 162 game averages, they're right. They're right about the same so and when you think about it, I thought picture today. Clemente Aaron. Amazing. I can't. I can't imagine a better All Star all field in that and then you throw in Billy Williams and Frank Robinson me. No wonder Vada Pinson made so few all Star teams. He's playing against those guys. It's It was incredible era and of every mall. You could make a great case that Henry was number one no doubt and the ties that he had with Cincinnati and the Reds. Just amazing his debut against the radar in a game that Joe knocks all one in six and a third innings of relief 98. Three months before I was even born back in 54, then his 3/1000 hit at Crosley, the first home run hit in Riverfront Stadium, and 7 14. Cincy. It's incredible legacy that he left. I know he loved hitting. You know it. Crosley Field in particular that first game he played here and 54. You mentioned Knoxy. I think Knox he mighta hit Andy Pafko on a pitch. He got away and Henry Held that against Joe. Even though the pitch was not intentional. It shook up every little bit of his debut in American League, a National league. He sees a guy carted off on a stretcher, so There wasn't any love lost between he and Knoxy. But Certainly for connection to a city, uh, outside of Atlanta and Milwaukee. How would argue this was that's hitting ballpark, and, uh, Owns his greatest achievements, and you've only got to look at 7 14 to realize that no doubt about that. And how about 3771 hits? You take away his 755 homers and that's still 3016, which would last 29th all time. There's a whole chamber without the home runs. Yeah, I mean, that's the thing about him. He just happened to hit 7 55 balls out of the ballpark. But he was in everything hard and And that's what I like to bawling. His doubles total is incredible. And I think it was through five lifetime hitter maybe higher than that. So you know again, like Frank Robinson, just a great pure hitter. Hit the ball hard, almost all the time. And 7 35 just happened to get out of the ballpark, But yeah, he He was the kind of guy e think, he said this one time. Maybe the Lonnie wheels a great late since in a sports writer. I think he told Lonnie If I had to buy a ticket for one game I.

"Of everything that he went through coming up through his, you know, in his career with all the racism and the pressure on him. You know, leading up to what was then the home run record. Yeah, he had death threats. Uh, I re told this story in my column today that, uh, shortly after he hit the 714 home runs the Reds We're in Atlanta and my mentor, Earl Lawson, is a Cincinnati Post had developed a great report with Hank Aaron and always stopped in the club has to seem and I was always on Girl's coat tails, So I was with him and just go in and sit and talk to him. Soft spoken, always smiling, had time for everybody and we walked in the clubhouse that day, and we were talking to him and he Hold out this cardboard box from underneath his locker and it was stacked with letters and postcards. And he said, Just grab a few and read, Um and we did, and that was just full of hate, mail and death threats. Just unbelievable that the guy was able to do what he did was having all that hanging over his head. And we're gonna learn tonight. The listeners at 6 35 when I bring on Paul Hoynes Of the plain Dealer in Cleveland and Cleveland dot com. I didn't realize this until yesterday when I read Hoynes. He's column that hammering Hank was a huge Browns fan that he would be He would be in the dog pound dressed incognito, and he would show up once in a while. It browns training camp. Yeah, I heard that story. And it goes back to the fact that he was great friends with Ozzie Newsome, the great tight end for the Browns and He would sneak into Cleveland and sit in the dog found in disguise. And then with the brownies all that is just off. Phenomenal. And how before I let you go here? How badly For the economy for this nation psyche. How bad do we need? Baseball, You know 162 games with at least some fans in the stands. Yeah, I would need to get the fans back understands. It's just not the same. I mean, I cover the University of Dayton basketball team in the winter, and there are no fans there. You're used to seeing 13,500 fans going nuts in the UD arena. You go there now, And it's like watching a scrimmage game in the gymnasium at the Y M. C. A. It's just so sad, and I know we need that. We need the fans. We need to fans back in the ball parks. And as you say, we need a full season. Feeling the excitement of a full season of baseball. I need it bad. Yeah, I saw a photo of you and Tom Archdeacon. What? Sitting up on the gosh, almost the Plaza level at the University of Dayton Arena. And I mean what a scene Uh, like you mentioned it. Had the feel of a you have a scrimmage game or an extradition? Yeah, I pick up being on a parking lot somewhere. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, It's just But yeah, losing all these wedges. It really really hurts And I just can't wait to get back to baseball here. How? I'm I I couldn't agree with you more chick and one last thing just looking at the Cincinnati Reds just briefly here. They've lost some players. But they still have some good. They still have some talent. You know, in there a starting rotation and in their 38 players that they can put out on this field band. Where do you see them? Going in 2021. Well, if the guys would just play up to the back of their of their baseball cards, I'd be in good shape. I mean, all the players that they brought in, you know, spent all the money last year to bring in five or six really good players, and none of them played up to the back of their baseball cards. That's all they need to do. Then we would have the offense. I mean, hitting 2 12 for a season. That's just unbelievable. And if they can just bring that up, hang on to the rotation that they they have. I mean, you keep hearing rumors that they're going to trade Sonny Gray, and you're gonna trade Luis Castillo. I don't think that's gonna happen, and it shouldn't happen because that's the strength of the team. The National League Central. I mean, the cuts are getting rid of people. The Cardinals air down. The pirates are awful, but the division is there fruit taking and now they can do it if they just Play up to their capabilities. Well, can't wait to see how everything plays out and how Was awesome. Being your colleague for 30 years of the Dayton Daily News and Godspeed Happy New Year and Hope you're safe and healthy. You and Nadine. The feeling is mutual, my friend to take care of yourself. Thanks so much. How appreciated brother. All right, buddy, Take care. You bet. That's how McCoy Hall of Fame baseball writer, Dayton Daily News and Man his story and Terrence S'mores. From the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Man, You got to check it out. It's Z just incredible. You can't help but talk in terms of hyperbole when it comes to the legend. Hank Aaron, and we're gonna pay tribute to him most of this evening and how McCoy leads it off, and we're gonna have poll Hoynes of Cleveland dot com. At the bottom of the hour. Mark Katz of the Dayton Daily News, retired at the top of the seven o'clock hour has some great stories. And John Girardi. The Cincinnati Enquirer the bottom of the seven o'clock hour hoping to hear from John and then we're gonna look at some football in the eight o'clock hour with my NFL insider from Philadelphia, John McMullen.
