Search apple it puts your profile in front of the right employers for you. If an employer likes your profile ZipRecruiter, let's, you know, so you can apply. Download the free ZipRecruiter app today. Remember the company three com they were an internet pioneer and largely forgotten today. John's zilbert decided to co author a book about three com and bring them back into the public consciousness. The book is called three com. The unsung saga of the Silicon Valley startup that helped give birth to the internet. We've got John Silber here on today's episode talking tech. Stay tuned, and let's have a listen. Okay. So the book is the first history of three com, the hugely successful and widely influential company that nobody today remembers. So, you know, if I ask you, do you know who Chester Arthur is almost nobody's gonna know that name, but he was the twenty first president of the United States, kind of a big deal. Right. He was influential in fighting segregation and trying to end political cronyism. But. Wikipedia pays is only about half a page long. So three com is kind of the Chester Arthur of tech companies. You know, they were enormously successful, but nobody remembers them, but they do know the technology that three come made possible things like the inter the Ethernet internet Email WI fi. They even own palm, which basically paved the way for the iphone and they didn't just create all this amazing technology. But they also invented a lot of what became the standard business model for tech startups, they acquired and partnered with overseas companies long before that was a common practice. In fact, their final partnership was a joint venture with Weiwei the Chinese tech powerhouse that's making headlines even today. So in, in a lotta ways, they became a role model for the fast growing startups. Like facebook. And Google that dominate the tech world today. You might even call three come the first unicorn of Silicon Valley growing from an idea. Sketched on a napkin to becoming a captain of industry, practically overnight. So our book wanted to capture that story and, basically, you know, remind people who this who this company was, and what they brought to the world hard. So, so you wanted to do it to give them their Mark in, in, in history. What happened to three com company was started about forty years, forty years ago and kind of trailed out about a decade ago when the company basically was a joint venture with wow away and had some products that were of interest to HP so HP acquired, what was left of the company and actually got a lot of value out of the products that they acquire. They fill the very necessary piece of the puzzle for H P, and those products evolved in continue to be on the market today. Like, what particular pieces of enterprise server products? Okay. So hardcore stuff. All right. So the name of the book, it's basically, if you go on Amazon, and search for three com you'll find the book there, but the full name of the book, which kind of tells the short version of the story is three com. The unsung saga of the Silicon Valley startup that helps give birth to the internet. And then fumbled the ball already. Thanks for filling us in today and be sure to look for the book on Amazon. Thanks. Thanks again. John. Finding a job can feel like an actual job. It's tough to find a position that really suits you. But what if you had your own personal recruiter to help you find a better job? Ziprecruiter's technology can do that for you. Just download the ZipRecruiter job. Jeff Bezos, Blackmail and the National Enquirer, explained

"Gigantic fight is heating up between owners of the Washington Post and the National Enquirer. It involves Amazon's leader, Jeff Bezos, extramarital affairs, embarrassing photos and possible extortion. ABC's George Stephanopoulos talk with a lawyer for the head of AM. I that owns the National Enquirer began last month when the National Enquirer published text messages between Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos and his mistress. Lauren Sanchez a revelation that bazo who also owns the Washington Post tried to preempt announcing the end of his marriage then late this week Basil's went public again writing on medium that agents for the national inquirer and its parent company. AM I threaten to release a digital text and explicit photos and less pays us said publicly that the Enquirer story about him was quote, not politically motivated instead of bowing to the demand bazo slash back. Of course, I don't want personal photos published, but I also won't participate in their well known practice of blackmail, political favors political attacks and corruption. Basil's is also investigating. Why was targeted the inquirer and his post? References AM. I chairman David Packers close friendship with President Trump and the Washington Post coverage of dramatic Shoghi is murder by operatives tied to the Saudi Crown prince, quote, an am I leader advise us, they Mr. pecker is apoplectic about our investigation for reasons. Still to be better. Understood the Saudi angles seems to hit a particularly sensitive nerve. Federal prosecutors now reviewing accusations which could jeopardize AM is existing immunity deal in which the company admitted to quashing damaging stories about Trump to help his presidential campaign. That is some of the background here respond. David Packers attorney album Abramowicz. Thank you for joining us morning right out there. Jeff Bezos, says extortion blackmail. Absolutely is that extortion and not blackmail of what happened was the story was given to the National Enquirer by reliable source had given information to the National Enquirer for seven years prior to this story was a source that was well known to both Mr. bazo Sam the Sanchez wasn't Michael Sanchez. I can't discuss who the source was. Just it's a confidential within AM. I so I'm not going to answer who the source was it was somebody close to both Basil's ama- Sanchez. Let me let me show some of the correspondents that Mr. bazo published. He he had it. This is a letter from AM is lawyer John find the deputy counsel, and it lays out two of the conditions. He was setting one a public knowledge from the basis parties that they have no knowledge or basis for suggesting that am ice coverage is politically motivated or influenced by political forces, and then point three AM agrees, not to publish distribute share describe unpublished texts and photos that seems like a pretty clear offer, am I won't publish these photos. If they get this statement from bazo, Georgia, you have to understand the context the story was already out and photos, not not those photos, there were I think there were some photos that were in the original story. Both pesos and AM. I had interests in resolving their differences base didn't want another story written about him. Or those pictures published? Am I did not want to have the libel against them that this was inspired by the White House inspired by Saudi Arabia or this inspired by the Washington Post? It had nothing to do with it. It was a usual story that that National Enquirer gets from reliable national believes that these photos were newsworthy yet, they're offering they're not to publish them return for the thing of value from Jeff Bezos, letting go the legal liabilities saying that it wasn't politically motivated. How is that not extortion is not extortion? Because all that AM. I wanted was the truth pesos and miss. Sanchez knew who the source was any investigator that was going to investigate this new who the source was it was not the White House. It was not Saudi Arabia, and the liable that was going out there slamming AM, I was that. This was all. Political hatchet job sponsored by either foreign nation or somebody politically in this country. That is something that the story was already published. How news decision to decide how long you can go with the same story. So that each side, it was part of a legitimate negotiation. Each side had something that they wanted a source close to the close to those conversations familiar with this conversation says this was a crime not the source is totally wrong. It's absolutely not a crime to ask somebody to simply tell the truth. Tell the truth that this was not politically

Wait, you just wait a second. Let me introduce you to someone. Hello. Can you hear me? Yes yet. We can hear you John. My name is professor John cryan. I'm a professor and chair of anatomy and neuroscience here at University College cork in Ireland, and I'm a neuroscientist brain guy. Yup. If someone told me six years ago neuroscientists that I'd be here. Talking about microbes. I would have laughed it off. But to make a long story short John found that if he was getting into neuroscience a lot of the Niro, scientists has university in court. They were getting into bugs for reasons that will become apparent in a moment. And eventually he got the book for and began to work with this one particular strain of bacteria selected bacillus strain. What was it lactose something lactobacillus lactobacillus from Noces? It's looks like a pill really kind of oblong thing and it sometimes used to make yogurt. We were interested in whether I if you fed mice with this for a number of weeks, whether it would alter their behavioral state, meaning if you fed these mice a bunch of this bacteria, would they become very different my different mice different my fatter, mice or something. No, no. No. No. No. Would they change their personalities? This is a profound change because of a bacterium or stomach. Yeah. Not in the brain just in their tummies just in their tummy. That's insane. It's not gonna work. But let let me tell you what he did. He had two groups of ice one of them. Got the lactobacillus the others. They got just normal mouse food. Yeah. We've had them broth just as control. So it didn't have any bacteria. Then we looked at how they responded to a mild water stress, and what we found was that. I was. Very well. Its water its water at room temperature. It's it's basically what he did is he took these groups of mice, the bacteria mice and the Novak. And then he would drop them into a bowl of water. And all roads are very good swimmers. But they just don't like water. Oh, now what he was looking for was any difference between the two groups in terms of how they dealt with this water situation. Like if one group squeaked more than the other or something. You just keep an open mind, and you wait and see what's going to happen fine. So. Starting with the first group d normal. Once he got them in and as you'd expect they try to escape they're trying to escape anytime them to see how long they keep at it. Okay. One minute passes this when they swim do all around looking for an escape two minutes past. Three minutes past but about four minutes, and he says the mice start to get worn down. And then they decided this point. There's no point I'm giving up..

You got probably about one hundred trillion microorganisms, that's a hundred trillion other kinds of cells in you yet. So if you take like all the bacteria in your body and just made them into one lump, it would be about three pounds. Really think of it as an organ, I mean, your brains about three pounds your heart pound or two. So this is an organ in this case, it's an organ that helps you digest food. But here's the thing. "In terms of john not knowing his lineage i think that that was also probably important in terms of if john finds out that he's related to dinares probably a little bit of a buzzkill with everything going on there judge touch yeah i think it's one thing that you're sort of in this relationship it's hot and heavy and then you find out that you might be related as opposed to your might be related to a person and then you seek them out i feel like that that is more problematic how 'bout this then rob maybe they shouldn't have had that final tower of joy seen in season six maybe they should have pushed that full reveal to this moment in time later in season seven while yaluk the theory is prominent and it's popular aarp was l equals jay the show at that point had not yet confirmed anything and in that seen in the tower of joy they like ninety nine percent confirm it and then like an infographic released by each b o confirms that regard target area is john's dad and then they try to reset it here as another major reveal like it's just like you can't reveal the same thing threetimes as a major reveal so why then why not just place the whole thing just have that whole big moment the one big moment and save it until the penultimate episode of where the penultimate season rather of game of thrones yet this is a good point maybe it speaks to the lack of plotting a head by d and we'll see if you know i don't know i will will at one will say it could it be better they could of gruber we loved it at the end of season six delivered at the agency's six that i think just in terms of like the pacing like me we know just doing like kind of like the back thinking on it's like now maybe there was like a pacing issue here anyway not not let's not arvani rigged coconut focusing on the positives here today are rob you know that's only told regards bulgaria and without harp on it regardless but i love thorpe playing my heart out to marry somebody else's betrayal.
