"Had exactly one thought in that moment. Did not realize we were going to have to answer questions. And I have literally no idea what I said. After that. I mean, I actually blacked out. Like I went home for Thanksgiving, and my family was like, So if you met him yet, and I was like, Yeah, and they were like what he's saying. I was like, how's it going? And they were like, What did you say? And I was like, I don't know I blacked out. Get that disappointed. Look And I can't blame anybody. Because if I'm going to be the kind of person who makes the president a little bit better at his job when I'm in the room, I am going to have to deal with questions more complicated than how's it going? And at the moment there's no indication that I can do it. But I make a promise to myself. I say if I ever get another shot at a life changing moment. I am not gonna let myself down. I didn't know if it would ever happen for me. But in fact it happened just a couple weeks later. I was sitting in my office. I got a phone call from the chief speech writer at the time, a guy named John Fabbro and he called me up and he said Betty White is turning 90 years old. NBC is doing the special. We're different. Famous people wish her happy birthday in these 30 seconds skits, and you're pretty funny and no one else wants to do it. Wanna give it a shot? And I said Absolutely. And again. I understand. State of the union is over here and happy birthday. Betty White is over there. This was my Gettysburg address. So we had one week to make it perfect. We started off John and I came up with a joke for the president. We were gonna have him fill out a birthday card. And then while he was filling it out, you would hear his voice on a voiceover Say, Dear Betty, you're so young and full of life. I can't believe you're turning 90. In fact, I don't believe it. Please send a copy of your long form Birth certificate to 1600. Pennsylvania Avenue..

"I see no and then I say what and then I look at the slides and honestly in the first line it's fine like with that hair cut president Obama looks like moe from the three Stooges and in the second finally looks like moe from the three Stooges but in the third slide he looks like Hitler from Hitler and you're just going to have to trust me here because I know that president Obama does not look like Hitler on television and I can promise you does not look like Hitler in real life but in that picture at that angle in that light with that hair cut even without the mustache the resemblance is uncanny end he's standing in the picture next to Bibi Netanyahu the prime minister of Israel and I can tell that lips would just leave it in but I decide I have caused my last international incident and I am done listening to lips so I thank Terry profusely for saving me and then I cut the picture from from our draft now the next day the day of the speech we have one last oval office will run through Cody my boss is out of town so we bring back to former speechwriters one in John Fabbro one in John love it and you know they saunter into the oval office and I kind of tiptoe behind them and almost immediately I mean I kind of get into a corner of the couch and and they're just bantering back and forth with the president in trying to make them laugh and they're both winning I'm just sitting there trying not to be noticed in fact I'm trying so hard not to be noticed that as we're running through these jokes I almost don't notice when president Obama stops us and he says why are guys what does whatever the picture me in BB I like that one and John Farris as well Mr president we had to cut it and the president says why and.

"Yeah I was just going to Google that to get you a baby you know no do not do that you are not going to find baby your choice for Christmas because John Fabbro the producer of this show he knew that this was going to be a big deal the I mean remember when when Mandalorian came out with Disney plus debut yeah people freaked out all my god there's a baby Yoda right had they see if that sorry if if they had started producing those toys which they would have to do months ago to be ready for Christmas season everybody would know there was a baby out in the shop well here's the thing guys this is going to be like a devil wears Prada and I'm Maranda Priestley and the world is gonna demanded that her kids have the baby to for Christmas I was wondering where you were going with that well that's right that's where I was headed but can I just tell you guys something even though they're probably not going to be ready for Christmas all over social media on Instagram and on Facebook I am seeing advertisements yes for baby all right you won't get it for Christmas right by you will get it relatively soon and if you go on to something like like at sea or eBay there are people who are making knocks on earnings all get a knock off there's a couple that are really bad let us up somebody spray painted a monkey doll green life taxed clay years to it and you're gonna be dropping a hundred fifty Bucks on it like it's a cabbage patch doll in nineteen eighty one that's needed on as he is do you wanna needed baby yoga I don't know I don't want a baby that you're getting I don't want one I'm just saying I'm excited about it so marked up it's ridiculous phrase you're absolutely right people are putting together the shady as baby Yoda's and charging like a hundred and fifty dollars and the thing is they just paid for their own Christmas that way that's how they're doing it they're gonna look for the next two weeks they're gonna start cranking out all these bad baby otas and it's gonna be a good news for the day it's not going to be available until may the actual toy action is not licensed to tori it doesn't surprise me in terms of the demand for the show by the way they are rolling it out slow rolling it out which is an unusual thing now it's used to be the way TV was done where every Friday they have a new episode the Mandalorian was thirty one point nine times more in demand than the average title on a global basis so just as an example shortly before thanksgiving Mandalorian surpassed stranger things in audience demand and now it's probably the most sought after show in the world more than game of thrones more than the flash which is a surprise more than stranger things and more than the crown so the crown all right coming up next the Irishman it is a long haul and people are complaining on social media about it because nobody can do anything for three and a half hours I just started watching it on Sunday Sunday night well that is still going that lease we actively one you could press pots and go to the bathroom or do whatever you need to DO and come back to it trail alright we'll talk about that we come back Jerry chan will continue with what you're watching Wednesday Monica.

"Right what we hear and so far because I've heard make stuff about the lying game yeah it's getting sort of a mixed reaction from the critics at the very least I think I kind of understand where they're coming from you know I I think it really depends on what you're looking for in a lion king remake yeah this is it this is the third of Disney's so called live action remakes of the classic animated films this year the first two being dumbo and Aladdin this one is definitely the most anticipated of the three people just love the lion king and this one have a pretty good great cast in Starz Donald Glover at the voice of Simba you know beyond say the voice of now you've got Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan who play to moan and quibble and they actually steal a lot of scenes they're really funny to Whittle at your for his car and then in sort of a nice little nod to the original you've got James Earl Jones who returns to provide the voice of Musasa and this is directed by John Fabbro he actually had really great success with a similar movie when he did the jungle book remake for Disney just a few years ago so it and made a lot of sense that they'd get him to do this one as well and to his credit the movie looks mind blowing the good everyone who's seen it agrees with them absolutely a technical Marvel how this thing looks from the animals to the natural environment you know for example pride rock that that famous rock with a cold Simba to the rest of the animals that that actually doesn't exist in Africa that's a complete fabrication on the part of the the guy who designed the original movie and and everything looks so real it's it's incredible what they've been able to do you know the whole sort of gimmick of the movie was that I was supposed to be a reinterpretation of the lion king with photo realistic animals and they have really gone sort of above and beyond to accomplish that but I think it does also kind of pose a problem at least for some people because you know the nineteen ninety four movie with a cartoon and that kind of allowed them to superimpose very human expressions on to the animals so they were angry or sad or happy you could really see it in their faces but you know obviously rely and they don't really smile like that or cry like that so their faces kind of end up looking fairly the same whether they're angry at someone or singing accrue the macabre so in that sense the photo realism does in my opinion kind of rob the movie a little bit of its personality but aside from that there also aren't really any changes to the story it's almost a shot for shot remake of the animated version although it does feature a few new songs that we didn't get the original and produced a number of critics that was also kind of a disappointment so with all of that said the movie is currently at fifty six percent on the tomato meter and I think whether or not you enjoy it will depend on one thing do you essentially want a shot for shot remake of the animated we but with super realistic looking animals instead of cartoons or were you hoping that this might be kind of a fresh take on the story and sort of the same way that John Fabbro did a few things a little differently from the original when he made the jungle book if you're okay with that being basically the same movie but pretty here then this is exactly that you will probably love it a lot of fans of already chimed in and said that they had an amazing time at the movie and again it looks fantastic but again if you were hoping for them to do something a little more with the story to sort of justify remaking it or you know even come at it from a fresh angle you're not gonna get that here so you know this is very much a your mileage may vary kind of the situation no it's interesting when you bring that up that way Ryan's for somebody like me yeah you know my kids love the movie right so I probably wouldn't watch it just on my own so I don't even know what my explanation is other than if we decided to go see the movie or if it's in a few months and I'm watching it you know as a rental it's kind of like irate am I entertained by it and I had even thought of what is my expectation you know what I mean which is like is there a rule or not and it from the trailer I'm like wow that looks stunning but I do wonder after about forty five minutes to an hour if you're like well I know how these roles and there's no silent there you know I don't know what it'll be like I'm not

Summer Movie Preview

"The movies of summer twenty nineteen. What is out there? What's going to happen? And I've got to start by saying you think maybe that summer begins on your calendar near the end of June. But not in Hollywood everything in Hollywood begins early because summer is when they make all the money that they can make all year. So officially April twenty six it's the beginning of summer because the movie that opens on that day is called a ventures endgame. This is three hours long. Nobody's gonna care. I predict that not only will this be the biggest box office hit of the summer, but it will be the biggest box office hit of the year. You remember what happened last time all the ventures or at least half of them seem to turn to dust than die mean? Now have those ventures that are left to signing if they can beat the evil fan. He so evil will the adventures be wiped out forever. Look how much money did these movies make I'm saying why would you basically kill the golden goose? This is going to continue in some way, we all know it. So what else is out there? I'm looking at my list. There's a major thing going on now of in terms of taking the Disney slash Pixar animated classics and turning them into live action movies. So we have The Lion King line king. One of the most successful Disney animated movies ever is now being done as a live action movie. You have Donald Glover being Simba. You have James Earl Jones actually being this father and the same scores. They're the same using. And it's directed by John Fabbro who did such a great job with the jungle book doing the same thing that I think we can all feel optimistic about what's going to happen. And then we have Aladdin when we remember the. Animated movie who do we remember the most? We remember Robin Williams doing the voice of the genie. This time doing the voice of the genie and being the genie. We have Will Smith. So big stars in this big kind of thing, they tried it with Dumbo earlier this year, and that didn't quite work the way they wanted to do. But we're talking about lying king and the Ladan so big deal. Now, what terms of old fashioned animation is out there. I don't know if you're like me. But there's a Toy Story four toy stories always been my favorite of those Pixar. There's something about Woody and buzz light year, and you're probably saying to yourself. Well, and Toy Story three didn't it happen. That would he said goodbye, Andy. And he went to college, and it was all over remember. There was little Bonnie Andy gave his toys too. So we're going to have little Bo peep comeback. I think when you look at what goes on in Toy Story, you have that kind of feeling of goodness of field. Goodness, but done with all the magic of Pixar. So if those adventures out there are going to have a run for their box office money. I would say Toy Story. Four is going to be the one that does it. So what else we now have men in black men in black international? You're not gonna see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones anymore. But this time you have Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. As new agents who are out there in this men in black universe. Sometimes you say to yourself do I want more of that? And you never know to actually see it. And I can only tell because I haven't seen this movie yet. But it looks like there's chemistry there. Then we have Spiderman far from home. You know, the Spiderman franchise never seems to end either. But we have Tom Holland who played him last time charmingly, I think, but now spider man, Peter Parker. They're taking a European vacation and the villain that they run up against is mysterious. Played by Jake Jilin. All I just think they're still some special sauce in the Spiderman universe, and I expect this one to also be a major hit. Godzilla Godzilla king of the monsters. I see that. And I go how much can they work this poor God's, but you can look at the trailer and see it. I like the idea that aside from viewer for Megan who is in it, Billy Bobby Brown from stranger things is in its she the dynamo. So if God Zillah can basically meet his match betting on little Millie to do something with that Hobbes and Shaw, this is fast and the furious you remember the rock of playing the the law man, and Jason stefon playing the outcast and the rebel these guys. I don't know if this is Hollywood kind of thing, but they tell us that Jason stadium and the rocked wing Johnson. Don't really like each other. And maybe that what the reason we love these characters and show so much because we liked that conflict. I don't know it seems a PR stunt to me, but I'm going to be there because this cars. There's the rock and their Stefa. So you're going to be there to and you know, it, oh and the big deal. Now, everybody has just in the midst of welcoming game of thrones back to their lives. The last season of that. You can't bear to live in a world where you can't see the stark sisters anymore. Well, now, you can dark Phoenix, which is part of the X men universe. Bring Sophie Turner, and she's Jean grey this character that we've seen before. But she's this younger version of her and she split between the good side of her and the dark Phoenix side of her. And to me, these girls are tremendously talented in what they do on game of thrones. And I think we're going to keep seeing them through the years, but her sister her at least game of thrones sister, maisy Williams is in new mutants part of that universe too. But in this case, they're all new characters to do this. They're all gonna be in the X men universe. Doing it. So that's it for the blockbusters that are out there. You've got everything from animation to comic book characters to everything. And that's the stuff that you hear about that your friends are going to talk to you about. But there's gotta be other stuff to part of summer is comedy of. I think we all really have gone through a long winter. And we're saying make us laugh give us something that will just make say, whatever. I can just sit back and not think. So what's there for that? There's a movie called longshot. This is a movie in which Charlotte Theran is playing the secretary of state who is running for president. But falling Manley in love with who staff throw in. Okay. It's like, a beauty and the beasts thing going on here. Seth Rogan is her speechwriter all of her people say what are you doing? You're going to destroy your career. But no, it's love. And if you don't laugh at the combination of Seth Rogan, Charlie staring. There's nothing left for you. And then we have the hustle. The hustle is a movie that used to be called dirty run scoundrels where the old days it was about conman. Now, it's con- women. They're played by Anne Hathaway and rebel Wilson. And they basically go all cross the continent finding rich people whose money they can steal pretty people. Glamour? What's wrong with that? Oh, book smart. This is directed by the actress Olivia Wilde, and it's about girls graduating from high school and saying we spent all our lives with our head in the books. Everybody else is going to parties and having fun. So they're going to do that beanie Feldstein plays one of them. She is the sister of Jonah hill and real life and Jona hill did super bad. This is kind of the women's version of super bad everything in it works, like a charm. You're really going to like that one. Then we have a movie called late night. This is about the TV talk show world and Emma Thompson plays. Probably the only woman on late night TV who hosts her own show, but she's got only men on her writing staff, and then she hires Mindy Kaeling who also wrote the screenplay of this movie, very very funny about what happens when you put women into what basically has been. A male bass they end of doing this. And the combination of Mindy king writing for the great Emma Thompson and watching them perform together is just so you've got to see that one to my favorite kind of thing. The dead. Don't die. You've got to admit that is a great and funny title. It comes from the indie, directing great, Jim Jarmusch. And it's cut people like Bill Murray and Adam driver by zombies. Okay. If Bill Murray is going to go out there and get laughs. Sizing up zombies. I'm going to be there watching him do it. So we have a good chance for laughs horror. I've got to talk about it now because it's not just the Cajun. Oh movie harm movie that makes money any makes people talk and get happy. It's they're everywhere. Now child's play do you? Remember the old child's play movies where you had Chucky. The crazy nut doll that. Always terrified me. Just. This doll who looks kind of little bit weird and freckly, but he has a voice on him like a longshoreman guess who's doing the west now of Chucky Marquel? Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker. And from what I've seen of it in. It's just been a little bit of it. It's wonderfully malevolent, so I'm going to be there to see that one. Then there's Annabel comes home. Another doll another possess doll also part of the conjuring universe where a viewer for Megan Patrick Wilson. Or the demon knowledge is that tried to make sure that nothing bad can come of this horrible doll Annabelle, but Bill will destroy and I will be there to watch her. Do it then them that follow their certain titles that get me them that follow really gets me? And it's about a snake handling church in Appalachia. No, they there are there colts. And they're almost religious cult where people pray. But they have the snakes, and they hold the life thinks pass them on. And you're thinking, what are you tell me about this like CD movie Har movie will guess who the star of this movie is the freshly minted Oscar winner Ogilby Coleman from the favourite, she's tossing those snakes around so irresistible. I think you're gonna love it. Then there's the Nightingale. See it's does not stop. It's har- everywhere. The night and gas from the director, Jennifer Kent who did a thing a couple of years ago called the baba Duke, which gave millions of people nightmares. And now she's back there following a woman who is chasing a convict got to be hooked. And then midsummer midsummer directed by REI Astor who last year gave us hereditary with Toni Collette, a really scary movie. Now, it's at a nine day Swedish holiday where everybody celebrates. But they'll be no celebrating after this one. So we. Got a lot of stuff out there. That's just going to scare us witless. And I couldn't be happier. All right. When summer comes. We think of all the things I've just talked to you about blockbusters comedy horror action, the rock of everything is there, but every even in a season like this. It's all about money and getting us into our theater, there are those movies that can come out entertain us. And also will hear about them at the end of the year when the Oscar nominations come out and the number one movie on that list, and the one that I haven't seen anything of India's of anyone that saw even anything past the trailer is called once upon a time in Hollywood it is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino its stars in order to Capri, oh as a TV star on the wane in Los Angeles. And Brad Pitt as his stunt double whoever thought of

"Read slash dot com during the holidays, but you know, there's a lot of things to watch. But it's not like a lot like, you know, dissect let's get into the few stories that happened in the last week that we do want to talk about in. Let's start with The Lion King because I know when we've talked about this the recent trailer came up we've all been kind of baffled that it seems like the basically just doing a shot for shot remake of the original. And it's not even a live action remake because it seems fully animated from what we can tell. So each is that what is happening. So according to Disney's live action film studios chief Shawn Bailey that will not be what's happening. Shawn Bailey assures fans at this. Brian king will not be a shot for shot remake of the original. And he says, quote Lion King is revered and beloved movie. So you'd better revere. And love those parts that the audience wants. The their things in the movie that are going to be new. So that's the extent of what he says about how what to expect of the new Lion King, which is directed by Jon Favreau, and it s- sounds along the lines of what they've been saying for the past few of Disney live action films, and they haven't always abided by assurance. I'm speaking. Specifically about feeding the beast, for example, which is a movie I am one of the few who aboard just because it has completely creatively. Stifling in the way that it slavishly a to the regional and shot for shot me make an yet makes it less compelling somehow. I'd. They added that one song. Anyways. I'm not here to talk about how much eight reviewing the beasts. I am cautiously cautiously optimistic about the line king. I am not as invested in this movie as I was for feeding the beast, which was my favorite Disney film. So I'm going to hope that Sean Bailey is an John Fabbro are going to put their money where their mouth is or I don't know they have a lot of money. So they can put it wherever they want. You know with Dumbo. It does look like they're changing it quite a bit. Like looks like Dumbo learns to fly in the very beginning of that live action version of that film in you know, the family has much fear. Partly I I can see that being a very different movie or not very different, but a size of -ly different movie than you know, as compared to like, beauty and the beast. But you know, this teaser for the The Lion King is it's literally shot for shot. So. I'm interested more when they reveal more trailers more marketing for this film. I'm sure that most of the marketing is to be heavily played upon people's love for the the movie. So I'm sure it's gonna be share..

This Week in Nerd-Iron Fist

"Netflix will not be picking up the option for season three of iron fist, but you will still see Danny rand crossover in some of the others and actually a defenders to is not off the table. So we will see Danny ran and possibly Jessica Jones. Another defenders. Probably Luke cage. They work so well together, and maybe we'll get a heroes for hire spin off, but there will be no more immortal iron fist solo series. I'm the. Protect your line. Yes. Danny, we know who you are. The aero verse has huge crossovers every fall. This fall, no, no different. We are going to be introduced to the city of Gotham and a new character to the aero verse bat woman, they cast ruby rose to be bat woman, and they've shown some costume pictures of her and looks like they took them straight out of the comic book. This is right off the pages of DC. Ruby rose has the look. She has the acting chops the arrow verse. All those shows are crazy popular. I'm loving that they're expanding, especially with Gotham going away. CW is expanding their CW superhero universe, so might not be long before we start seeing some more of these guys in their own series. DND players. If you remember a while back, they added a new class. Old spice came up with the gentlem-. In class based off of their commercial character? Well, not to be outdone. They've made another new class. Not old spice is just made up by the fans called the murder Hobo class. If you've ever played DND, you know, the murder hobos are the players who just want to maim kill rape, torture for no reason whatsoever. Just do it in cause chaos. They have made their own class with class defining rules. Now you can actually download this from DM guild, which is it's probably not going to be considered canon for DND, but being on DM guild is probably the next best thing. If you're DM is allowing it, you might try this murder Hobo class. If that's not for you, get the old spice gentlemen class there I've played the gentlemen class. It's pretty cool. You should try it out, murder Hobo class, not into that type of character. A lot of people are, but, hey. Now you've got rules for it by now. You've heard that Disney has fired James Gunn the guy who wrote and directed the guardians of the galaxy hugely popular movies. He was fired over some tweets. He made ten years ago or so. They were made in jest, but they were taken, I guess, by Disney's seriously. They didn't like the content a lot of dark humor that they didn't think was funny. So they've, they fired him well, as soon as they did that, all the other companies were lined up at his door knocking and the one he answered for was DC. The DC universe is going to have James Gunn attached to the new suicide squad to movie. He's already proven. He can write group movies with guardians of the galaxy in just do a killer job. It hasn't been decided if he's going to direct suicide squad to yet. But just the fact that he's writing it is it's mind blowing. We're going to see probably the best suicide squad incarnation. You could think of Batiste day Batista's already said that he wants to come over. If James Gunn is directing it and play a character. I just I can't wait for this to see a movie be as popular or some of the marvel movies would be great. I would love to see James Gunn grab this and run with it and just do a whole series of DC movies. So congratulations, James Gunn. Congratulations. DC marvel. I hope the guy you've replacing with does just as well. Let's finish this up with some Star Wars. Let's start with the mandatory and show by John Fabbro. If he don't know already, the Disney play channel is picked up a big budget, Star Wars series that they're letting Jon Favreau writing direct. Jon Favreau has done an excellent job with all the other stuff. He's worked on from iron man, two zero through gemology all the way up to jungle book the live action one. Handing him the reins of this in him picking a character or a classic character. So I contacted MandA Laurean can't wait man in case you didn't know Django fit Boba fett are the main delorean's you're probably more familiar with or maybe some the ones from the clone war series.
