"The Jimmy Barrett Show on kprc 9 50. 4 34 down here named 9 50 kprc. Alright, let's let's let's talk a little bit about The border haven't done that in a little while. There is a new proposal out there. The proposal comes from senators John Cornyn. Yes, John Cornyn. And Kristen Cinema. So I'm sure they're not selling it this way, because, after all, Senator Cornyn is Republican underlying twice. From Texas. So I can't imagine that he's actually trying to sell this bill as being is enabling the Biden administration their process and release illegal aliens into the United States more quickly. And to provide illegals with legal counsel at taxpayer expense. And transport illegal aliens to other locations within the United States Upon the release, paid for by The taxpayers of the United States because, after all, if he tried to Presented to us that way here in Texas. We might We might not like it very much. Uh, Maurice joins US Charities Foundation to discuss this old thing. So how is this being presented by these two? They're clearly It's not being presented the way the way you folks think it's being interpreted right? Right. In fact, they put the word bipartisan and the title of the act, which is the first time I've seen that and make it sound better. But this is a bad bill. This would essentially accomplish what the Biden administration wants to accomplish, which is to just process more illegal aliens into the country more quickly and more efficiently. So what are they saying? And they trying to sell it from the idea What we You know, we have this this huge influx of people of the border and we have overcrowded conditions and we have a bunch of kids on top of each other. We need to disperse them or quickly. This this will this will take care of our humanitarian issues at the border. Well, right, and they're they're trying Tomo deal with the crisis instead of preventing illegal immigration, and that's the key difference here. So this bill, for example, would create processing center is at the border or welcoming centers. If you will, um, which Unfortunately, is going to continue to draw illegal immigrants to the border to then be processed into the U. S. And that's really the number one cool factor is if illegal immigrants know that they can get into the US and will be released. Um then they will continue to come. Um The bill. Also a zoo you had mentioned requires lots of legal orientation programs and access to attorneys, which the taxpayers would have to pay for. And, um, it's really lowered the bar for Monsters who can pick up unaccompanied alien Children and have them stay with them. Um, it on Lee eliminates certain crimes that these sponsors may either be convicted of Or Kurt, currently being tried for a two very least illegal immigrants could be sponsors picking up these U. S. E s and other Have have committed other crimes as well. Right. This sounds like a pretty hard sell. Certainly it seems like a hard sell the Texas so I'm a little surprised. Well, I take that back. I'm not really surprised. Senator John Cornyn is a right now, and there's no doubt that he's one of those people left to who definitely believes in cooperation and bipartisanship and moderation in all things. And this is not an issue that needs a modern touch. Right now. This is an issue that needs to be taken care of. Absolutely this. This crisis was made by the Biden administration. And it appears that this administration is just looking to get them in faster. Um, so that the numbers will not back up into, um And to the Border Patrol and CVP centers. And so it looks like the problem is resolved when in fact it really isn't instead. Instead, what members should be demanding is that the Reinstitute the policies and programs that worked under the Trump administration. Well, we know that's not gonna happen because it happened during the Trump administration, so they're supposed to do it doesn't matter if it worked. If Trump did that they won't S o. That aside, what else could or should we be doing? I we evidently are going to be sending money to Mexico so they can they can the Mexican government can try to entice migrants to plant trees. Which doesn't doesn't seem like the reason why they were headed towards the United States to begin with was not to stop the plane trees of Mexico, it was come to the United States because they think they have a better future here. No. Any money that's given in the form of foreign aid should be about truly improving the economies and source countries that involves private investment. It involves going after the gangs and the transnational criminal is a criminal organizations. On involved, you know, getting more security for them if they truly fear for their life and have been persecuted than they should be applying in the U. S refugee system in their country or in that region. You should not be making the dangerous journey north to our border because it just enriches the smugglers, and it puts their own lives in danger. Take me Take me back a little bit here, Laura, because during the Obama administration, we tried Sending money to foreign governments. We sent money Dole kinds of foreign governments, many of whom are direct enemies of the United States, including Iran. We certainly sent money to Central America. Prop of third world Dictatorships with the idea that if we send them enough money, those the will stop the flow of people coming to our borders or the very least they'll spend some of that money making the conditions in their country's better. Clearly that did not happen or the very least they did not work. So why do you think the Biden administration thinks it might work this time? Well, I mean, he was vice president under Obama. So many of the fine administration policy is returned to the Obama administration. But frankly, the U. S for decades has given foreign aid to Central American and other countries. Um, without conditions demanded of them. And it was President Trump, who actually said Look, if you want to continue to get foreign aid or not get perished..

Trump Refuses Surprise Call to Testify in His Impeachment Trial

House delivers Trump impeachment article to Senate, setting stage for trial
"The second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump is underway after House managers delivered the article of impeachment to the U. S Senate Monday evening, charging him with incitement of insurrection over the deadly attack on the U. S. Capitol, Donald John Trump engaged in high crimes and misdemeanors. By inciting violence against the government of the United States. Maryland Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin serving his house impeachment manager and reading the charge on the Senate floor, But the trial won't begin in earnest for another few weeks, a pause allowing more time for preparation. Some Republicans say it shouldn't be happening at all. Now that he's out of office. This can happen. Anytime of political party has a majority. And there's no time limit. There's no statute of limitations. That would mean that the new precedent set is that next time Republicans were in power they could reach back and impeach a former Democratic president, Texas Senator John Cornyn, also taking issue with the push to prevent Trump from ever seeking office again if convicted by the Senate. But Democrats say the former president must be held accountable and the trial will move forward even is President Biden tries to accelerate the fight against Cove it and find common ground on more covert relief open to changes in his proposed package. I prefer these things to be bipartisan, because I'm trying to generate some Census and take sort of the How can I say it vitriol out of all of this, But he's already suggesting that just because of Bill passes along party lines doesn't mean there isn't unity. In addition to being a source of friction, the impeachment trial will take time and conviction would take much more than a party line vote in the divided chamber days after January. 6th. It did look like there was no mentum. Among Republican senators to convict President Trump. John Roberts is co anchor of America reports on the Fox News Channel. The White House was concerned that the numbers could be high enough for their actually to be a conviction. Which would have meant that 17 Republican senators would have had to vote in favor of convicting President Trump. But since then, the mo mentum toward a conviction among Republicans has waned to a large degree, and now the momentum is actually swinging the other way. Pendulum has now moved toward declaring this process to be unconstitutional. This idea of holding a Senate trial for a president who is no longer in office and adding to that is this idea that the chief justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, will no longer be presiding over the trial that will now fall to the Senate. President Pro TEM Senator Pat Leahy from Vermont, all of which taken together adds to this growing idea in the Republican Party that this is an illegitimate process that this is being done on Lee for political reasons. It's on Lee being done to punish President Trump and really doesn't hold any validity in terms of whether or not President Trump will continue to hold office. What about the big picture here? And the political calculus for Mitch McConnell, who's now the Senate minority leader again? Um, because some analysts have pointed out that he seems to be treating this impeachment differently than the last one. You know, as if he feels it's more credible or at least that's how it seemed initially. Um are they reading too much into that? Or is he you know, does he have sort of an ulterior? Agenda here. Mitch McConnell was going further than I've ever seen him before, in terms of what might happen if there were to be a in impeachment trial in the Senate, suggesting that he was really trying to make a break and President Trump But in the days that followed that, really now, the weeks that followed that McConnell seems to be taking a different tack. I have been told by sources in Congress that McConnell, Maybe one of the people whose coalescing around this idea that this is impeachment trial is not constitutional. I don't want to say that he thinks it's a legitimate but not constitutional, and that the president has already left office. I think there's been a bit of a change in position for Mitch McConnell. What about pressure on the new president to sort of not interfere and let this trial happen? However, the Senate wants that to happen. Because it's clearly been at least slow down portions of his agenda just as he's trying to do as much as he can as fast as he can. Right. There's no question that a Senate trial Is going to affect Joe Biden's agenda and how quickly he gets his confirmations die. How quickly he could get some of his signature legislation through that, said Joe Biden is a you know an alumnus understand it. He knows that the Senate Act is an independent body. It's been said that there are 100 presidents that inhabit the Senate. I mean, clearly they are of their own minds. So for a president to say, Well, this is how I think the Senate should do. It is not gonna fly very well on Capitol Hill. So is a student as an alumnus. Understand it. Biden. I think his wisely stepping back to say, Look, this is your deal. You handle it. You handle it The way you will atone east in the public statements. I wouldn't be surprised if behind the scenes in private. He is raising some concerns about what might happen in the next few weeks in the Senate, but but clearly he's he's taking a step back to say. San. It's an independent body. I'm not about to tell them what to do, because if he were, he would likely get some blowback from them, and he definitely needs to send it if he wants to get his agenda troop I know you've covered the White House for a long time help big of a contrast is the start of this administration compared to the start of the Trump administration. Yeah, it's markedly different from from from out of the gate with the Trump administration. We were going 100 Miles an hour on the roller coaster and that never stopped. Even if you look to the very first briefing was Sean Spicer, where Spicer came out and and ripped the press for allegedly lying about the numbers of people who went to the inauguration all the way up until the last press conference from Keighley back in it, they were contentious, combative affairs. That really sort of was the hallmark of the Trump administration that it was a contentious, combative administration. This administration is much more located. Briefings are cordial. I don't want to say they're collegial, but they're definitely cordial, even though I think Jen Psaki is getting some more pointed questions, and she wasn't the first couple of great things, and I think that that's the way that this administration is going to progress. It will be a kind of a Let's get business done type of administration, as opposed to this grand show that President Trump in that shed, though I think that Joe Biden does face some headwinds in terms of getting his agenda through because he is beset with a number of different crises, and now he owns them. He's the president.

He just does he's told he does as he's told by his corporate special interests he does he's told by his party leaders and. . You know that's very Texan. . It's very Texan to have backbone and grit and integrity and stand up for your principles and so <hes>. . You know I don't really look at polling that much. . Even fivethirtyeight recently said that <hes> Democrats in Texas are always going out will recently at least maybe not always are outperforming the polling in part because you poll people with a reliable voting history and we've been forty nine hundred fiftieth in voter turnout for decades. . So who's reliable voter anymore when when you have double or triple the turnout at the polls, , a lot of the people showing up to vote which by the way the people who are getting. . Engaged to go and vote who haven't been reliable voters tend to be not good news for whatever political party is in power right? ? So we expect to outperform the Coles the polling we're we're a lot closer than Beto was in the polling against Ted Cruz and yet he's still almost beat him. . So I, , have every confidence that. . After the debate we only have one scheduled that Cornyn. . has agreed to he has kind of chickened out on the other to even though he told the Texas Tribune that he would be. . Willing to do more. . I think that he knows that he can't run on his record I. . think he knows that the more Texans learn about him the worse it is for him we pick up a lot more of those independent undecided voters because my vision for this state is a lot more in line with Texas values in. . Want. .

your eyes on the bangs all right the numbers are five one two eight three six zero five ninety we'll get to some of your calls in just a second one of the things we're discussing is the log jam over the package of more money for small businesses it has grown in size and the Democrats are winning some agreements to get more money for states and cities and more money for testing Ted Cruz is sick of all of it he was on fox today he said I've had it up to here with the delays on getting this extra money the games the Democrats of playing on this particular we saw this on the cares actor we had a bipartisan agreement on the cares act and then at the last minute Nancy Pelosi parachuted in and blew it up and delayed it for four days when people desperately needed relief Hey check protection plan which is proven immensely popular it is the difference between life and death for millions of small businesses across the country restaurants and bars in movie theaters and nail salons and hair salons and the Democrats and allow this program to expire and they just held it hostage say they did that day and they're continuing to do it my message to Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi stop **** around with the small businesses and people's livelihoods because the partisan games they're playing or having very real consequences across the country and you're seeing now that the Democrats are starting to flip it the Republicans yes so house Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has come out and said when you look at this package that's going to be passed it's almost exactly like the one we ask for two weeks ago so what we're doing is we're ending up with a bill we could have passed twelve days ago thanks to the Republicans we've it's twelve days ago I would say hold up hold up for your what about the clean bill that was asked twelve days ago to just replenish this one fine that you held up to put in this other stuff that could be in the next bill that you've already set is coming yeah Ted Cruz said de pelo see parachuted in on that one yeah yes Preston said the domain ten thirty five with mark and Melinda Preston good morning morning have you guys ever heard the term cut your nose off to spite your face yes I think that's what we're doing with our health care system this morning when I was going to my car I asked the guy the card he grows well you you know he's going to work what he does work in he's a hospital administrator any says they're going broke because they can't operate as normal yeah that restriction on the elective surgeries is really cut off the flow of money and I can see why there is a need for money in this package to help out hospitals who abided by the restrictions and they cut off all of those surgeries and they got a lot of empty beds furlough yes people now yeah yeah if they go broke I mean it what it what we've done I mean I could see keeping a certain percentage for just in case of emergency of a number of cobit patients but to do what they're doing now is just drive them out of business and if we don't have any hospitals six months from now or less hospital and then we did get a second wave how we helped ourselves with the pandemic thank no you're right Preston you're you're right on the market I think if the governors like Abbott and others look back in hindsight they they probably have some regrets on them part of what they ordered what I think that's probably why it's the first part of the rollout here I think as of today they were allowing it some of these surgeries to be put back on the books so hopefully they'll start soon president thank you the question is how much are they opening up the details are really where the rubber meets the road so to speak it is abit really allowing them to have full operating capabilities with reserving twenty five percent of the beds for covert nineteen Z. leaving some rules in place I request and all about the the availability of beds throughout this whole thing what why not just to reserve one hospital in an area that is central that everybody can get to to to host all of the cold the patience and let all the other hospitals go on with what they're doing I haven't quite understood why every hospital had to have capacity open I think the politicians were scared to death by New York in that New York City experience was driving all of the decision making they didn't want to be another New York City and so that's that's why we had so many of these rules put in place but I understand that but still logically I would think okay we've got Austin we've got how many hospitals we can designate one that is going to handle the cold that cases so then there's not that fear of spreading it to other people that are coming for regular things because it's all just covert individuals and it's in a central location that it that you can send them to and if you do that throughout the whole state and all of these places I never understood the meaning of shutting down everything every hospital has to have a portion shut down I didn't get that well that's a legitimate question my guess is it would be hard to get one hospital to do it yes we'll take one for the team because I think today we still only have seventy nine people in the hospital in all of Austin with the corona virus so you would be asking a hospital to take a huge hit on their finances just to be that one hospital but now they're all taking a hit yeah but then all of the hospitals which you'll be able to have their money going and the money that was set aside for hospitals you could go to that one hospital so they would get the money back they would get the funding it would be there from the federal government yes I know well we're going to keep an eye on the what abit is allowing in terms of elective surgeries because this is a really big deal not only for the finances of these hospitals but for the patients who have been waiting for weeks these people really need surgery N. and they've been suffering and misery holding off on a lot of this stuff staffs of doctors the doctors themselves have taken a big hit this is a huge story nurses hours Qatar furloughed I mean it is huge let's go to Jesse in cedar park ten thirty nine with mark and Linda good morning Jesse how you doing I'm doing all right Jesse good morning good morning first of all want to say I am very lucky and very blessed because I have a job and I'm a considered essential workers so I've been working since day one and so kudos and thoughts and prayers go out to all everybody else that has not happened not not been able to make a Buck but on that note I'm really disappointed in both parties where is the positive messages out there all we're hearing is is a negative I mean we should hear every day ninety eight percent recovery rate ninety eight percent recover right repeated repeated repeated but were not all we hear is dead yeah yeah and it's it's ridiculous that's one core what what what what do you think is the answer to your own question the politicians need to come out with a positive message to staff including the president trump his administration even the Democrats they need to stop we need to come out and say you know what we're not going to happen and I wish to god it was well if I'm not mistaken when president trump tried to come across as being hopeful he got lambasted for it what yeah but that's basically what that says that he gave up the biggest need to repeat repeat repeat it like the media and everybody else was repeat all the naked repeat the positive we need to come out so politicians to come out and go people.

"Is being out of control. This is your hair's on fire kind of stuff John Cornyn, which isn't saying a whole lot because it's always measured with John Cornyn. So Politico's reporting many Senate Republicans are deeply opposed to President Donald Trump declaring a national emergency to build his border wall. Interviews with a dozen GOP senators yesterday revealed brought efforts to waive Trump from doing an Enron around congress. They're gonna be victim of the tweets. Yeah. I'm I'm surprised he's been able to contain himself so far. So he really really boxed in now. Obviously he felt it too. Because they if you're to read it or what he said leading up to today, they they backed him down. So here comes John Cornyn again, by Cornyn standards. This is wild wild. Does. He get the president is going to get sued. This is what's John Cornyn says I've been saying he won't succeed in accomplishing his goal. It strikes me as not a great strategy says the wild out of control John Cornyn that's Cornyn and saying that's a really dumb idea, and you've got to pay for it. Especially in Texas with the lawsuits on the border with landowners with the state of Texas. I hope Dan, Dan patch everything. Ken pack will stop sowing abortion clinics, and whomever and start action against the federal government. If they start building a wall over by a big bend area. Yeah. This. I thought this was an out for Trump. In fact, I think I thought I was going to win a bottle of wine over this. When I thought it was for Trump. But they've they've talked him down. They backed him down to it agree, which is a little surprising to watch happen. So he's not apparently not going to declare a -mergency tonight, which was going to be ridiculous. Anyway, it was just going to be ceremonial Cornyn. Even had it right legally. You're not going to see the money. You're not gonna go anywhere in Cornyn made them a good point is, well, it's a dangerous precedent. It's a very. Not monarchy here, even though many people seem to want a monarchy. It was going to go nowhere fast. So now what I don't know, man. He is totally boxed in and for all the people who wanted to call and say, you'll see you'll see what what position is he in you get this done. He ruined his negotiating position. This was the hail Mary he had and now been backed away from this one. I don't think he's been backed away by Jeff I think he may not do it tonight. But he's got the February what the fifth. What? Today fifth while the deadline to get the negotiations finished. She's got that. I think that's the hard and fast one. Mcconnell said you're not you're no negotiating position between now. And then. What what is your negotiating about Iraq? Sure me again, tell me how smarter. What is your negotiating position again? What he could bring it up. But then Mitch McConnell said he'd have no choice under Senate rules. But right to bring the resolution of the Senate floor for a vote where he said it could get enough GOP's to be approved for blocking the plan blocking the emergency designation. So that's what I've said weeks ago your box dead. Just in negotiating whether it turned out the right? I I don't know it's up to people to decide, but you're going to hear a we could assume a fair amount tonight about immigration, and the like this is really this is well done it's almost like an immigration primer. So at four o'clock in the morning. I thought I would read this. These are just facts. And know somebody listening to save. That's not. That's not it. Okay. Well, it is by the government agencies themselves. Here are some interesting facts do with them and solve the problem. However you want. The issue of terrorists at the border, you go back to a time in which Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Says there are nearly four thousand known or suspected terrorists coming into the country one they've captured. Yes. So the answer there is there have been. Approximately a dozen non-citizens on the watch list who have been stopped at the US Mexico border in fiscal two thousand eighteen none of whom turned out to be terrorists. But by some quirk of whatever, and I'm always cautious of this. Because I get searched all the time they were on a list. The State Department says there's quote, no credible information that any member of a terrorist group has traveled through Mexico. The State Department terrorist group, right? Peter Bergen national security analyst who tracks terrorism cases. I cannot think of a single example of a terrorism case where somebody came over the southern border to infiltrate the United States. He did note there has been a case of a terrorist apprehended at the border that would be the millennial plot by a member of Al Qaeda who had hoped to go to Los Angeles to blow up the Los Angeles airport in December of nineteen ninety nine. Wait a minute at the US Canadian border nineteen ninety nine that is correct. Pre-nine eleven. Yes. Algierian citizen with ties tale was arrested at the US Canada air border in December of nineteen ninety ninety it hoped to blow up the Los Angeles International airport. Hey. Immigration itself, which is kind of interesting. All right. How do how do most unauthorized immigrants into the US two thirds of the recent unauthorized immigrant population enter the US unbalanced visas than stayed in the country after that visa expired. That sixty six percent of unauthorized immigrants. How many unauthorized immigrants immigrants live in the US between ten point seven eleven point three million authorized immigrants were living in the US. Reportedly the number of authorized immigrants living United States hit a twelve year low in two thousand sixteen. Currently. Tempts to cross the border illegally on the southern border three hundred ninety six thousand five hundred seventy nine people were caught illegally crossing the border in the year ending September thirty two thousand eighteen. Border crossings began to fall significantly in the mid to thousands after hitting a record high through the nineteen eighties. I didn't know that in two thousand five US customs border patrol agents apprehended over one point one seven million emigrants since then the rest for legal border crossings have fallen early every year, but you have to admit that the eighties and then two thousand five it started dropping, but you have all those big groups of Hondurans on the border, and there's like two thousand. Two thousand of them locked up in Tijuana emigrants show up for their court dates. I was surprised by how many eighty nine percent. Wow. Why why would you do that your gone? That's your really hottest. That's really surprising. And you go to all that effort or a lot of people to get in here thinking accepting goods going to have. I guess there's something admirable for that. Seems like it defeats the purpose. But okay. Here you go. The department of Justice asylum seekers showed up to their court dates eighty nine percent of the time in fiscal year innings of thirty how drugs into the country, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration, a small percentage of the vast majority of illegal drugs heroin cocaine and Fenton, all enters the country through legal entry points known as officially as ports of entry. This is according the US department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Last week. They had the big hall. Yeah. A small percentage of the heroin seized by the customs and border patrol agents was found along the land border porn between ports of entry. They don't put an exact number on it. Violent crime and immigrants. Do you know two thousand eighteen? Data shows he legal immigrants are forty seven percent less likely to be incarcerated by by natives and legal immigrants are seventy eight percent less likely to be incarcerated the natives whatever that means. The Texas Department of public safety says the murder rate arrests rate for native born Americans was forty six percent higher than illegal immigrant homicide rates in Texas. It keeps going I didn't know this undocumented immigrants are ineligible for government welfare benefits and legal immigrants only qualify for federal benefits. Once they've resided in the US for five years. But that's not the narrative we hear. I know this is a good primer. Hey, good. I mean, unless the very government of which you say is lying to you. It was just a good primer. I mean, it's just a good overview of just the the data itself, we have occasion that we have the situation this weekend with MS thirteen gang members one gang down on the streets of New York on Sunday. So I know that's an isolated case. But that always gives fuel for the fire for the president. Sure. I'm sure he will make tonight. No murderers. Okay. No murders. Okay. The argument could be any murder that could potentially be prevented is the route. They would want to take no doubt. I'm not quite sure that we can completely sanitize and get rid of all murders. "Seven counts one count of obstruction five counts of making false statements one count of witness tampering. Yeah. That is CNN who just happened to have a camera on the scene of the arrest. Roger stone arrested in indicted this morning at six AM. He's an advisor to the president. But he was immediately after the president declared exit out he was on the outside arrested in Fort Lauderdale this morning. He was indicted on allegations. He lied and obstructed the house intelligence committee's investigation of Russian interference in the twenty sixteen election. I'll bring you the latest and back we asked Jonathan Turley to join us, and he will Catherine Herridge is over the story and she'll follow at the bottom of the hour. Senator John Cornyn to better guest to talk to a in a short term over the two big stories in this country first off on his arrest. What do they say? Then the documents they say that stone was. Conspiring with quickey links the indictments is not charge. This was conspired with WikiLeaks. But it seems to indicate that he knew about the hacks. It also says the Trump aide charged in the mullahs probe had had multiple contacts between Trump associates and Russia during the campaign. So we'll see what they say that Roger stone new. They also said that he lied to congress obstructed Justice. And you know, that he also say conspired to tell somebody else. To not tell the truth to the special counsel. I'm also wondering is it necessary to have a big raid was a necessary to get Well, Paul Manafort outta bed wasn't necessary. As Roger stone, a bike risk couldn't you've said, can you report to the courtroom and made sure he showed? But what does it mean for the whole investigation, Dan Abrahams on ABC cut one? This is the first indictment where it becomes clear that the special counsel believes that the Trump campaign knew about the hacks before this material was made public and remember they're one of the key charges in this case, so far is of the Russians engaged in the hacks, and this is related to WikiLeaks and the key phrases. I think from this indictment are that a senior Trump official was directed to contact stone about additional releases and about future was allies. Yeah. So we're still speculating, but this is a Trump I wouldn't say adviser, but he's a longtime friend. He was the one who always urging him to get in. But almost immediately after Trump declared next thing, you know, Dan, Abrahams as Dan Abrahams said stone was there, but he was never on scene. I mean, he wasn't in Trump Tower. He was talking to the president. But he wasn't part of the campaign. The question is the tech. I think they're talking about your own Coursey. Did they tell you? Did he tell Drome Coursey not to tell the truth the to coverage tracks? Did you not tell the truth to investigators? Keep in mind to off people are still speculating, but I think the Trump campaign's gotta worry as Rudy Giuliani said maybe craftily over the weekend. And last week. The president in collude, but he's not saying that anybody else in and around the president did that's a lot different than we thought a year ago. But true the dissemination matters Joe Lockhart says this cut five Roger stone is the person who is at ground zero of Donald Trump's political career. He's the guy who planted the idea you can be president of the United States. And my guess is is a very small circle of people who could be the one that we're talking about here who did Rogers and Donald Trump is in that circle. Wilsey was he directing Roger stone where they're getting the heads up. You know, there's a heads up on something's coming down. Whether it's a s an opponent's divorce and allegations that are coming through. You have no obligation to go forward and say, this is what's happening. And this is what's going to be taking place. But what I do say what bothers me about the whole Trump all the Trump people that we had nothing to do with Russia. If the president came out early says I had nothing to do with Russia. But I have no idea. What all these other people were doing I just know that Hillary Clinton was using a private server, it made herself vulnerable and Podesta got caught in a fishing expedition. And when he did that these emails became public, and it hurt the campaign, but it didn't mean these emails were illegitimate. It didn't mean they were made up. This is really was going on. This is what Sanders thought this is Debbie Wasserman Schultz found out. This is what Hillary Clinton was doing. We want the other big story. And I want to take too much time away from Jonathan Turley hill break it down from the legal perspective was day thirty five now the shutdown. I don't see any leverage for the president. And I think it's unjust. I think the prisoner box himself in the middle of December. I think he's one hundred percent, right. We need money for wall. I think he's one hundred percent right to listen to the experts and say, you don't need a big cement wall. You need slats in certain areas, you need improvements in others and other areas, you need just technology. But Nancy Pelosi says, okay, I'm not dealing at all I'm gonna pretend zip. I didn't vote twice before for fencing across the border to pretend that the president isn't giving me wiggle room. I'm gonna pretend that the opera out. There did not involve DACA, which you said you go to bat for on a daily basis. So they were two boats yesterday in the Senate, and it's clear both didn't pass weren't expected to pass. But clearly, evidently, reportedly promote people sources axios to the hill behind the scenes. The Republicans are getting restless, they they basically lead vice president Pence have it and Mitch McConnell habit. Why did you box in here? These innocent people can't work this. The speaker of the house is gotten all the leverage on justifiably where is the way out here. Here's the president from the Oval Office cut eighteen. You need the wall. We can all play games. And we can all talk about technology. I know more about technology than anybody. You don't have the wall. The technology does the work you need to walk. A lot of the technology is put on top of the wall. That's how you see the cameras and everything else. I mean, they literally put the technology. They fascinated to the wall, then you have drone technology. So meanwhile, Nancy posts, he's just not budging. And I think the thing that's going to make her move is if Democrats who got in this job who won their house seats in in red districts are going to rise up and say, we really look petty. This is nothing to do with us. It's about you cut twenty one. This shutdown is not a glitch. It is a crisis that the president alone created and at the president alone can end Republicans in congress have been accomplices to the president's irresponsibility and just a Norring the consequences of his action either. He doesn't know he doesn't care. No. It's you you don't care. You don't care about funding the border, you don't care about the border security. There's legitimate crisis happening. We see the families coming across. We see the drugs coming through. We know it's through the most of the port of entry. But the wall the barrier allows you to funnel it in a certain area provide additional technology there, she's pretending as if there is no debate. She does not sit down and to give and take with anybody that wants answers. She just sits down with people that want to kiss her bought Mercedes slap says the president's not giving in but has to consider other options cut thirty. It's clear that congress. We're not getting to a solution there. So yes, the president is seriously considering other options that includes declaring a national emergency. Obviously he's looking into these legal options that is something he can do. And what is so troubling is the fact is yes, he's been able to keep the Republicans unified in the Senate. Obviously we needed the sixty votes mansion came through. But no other. What is? Lost some Republicans. Listen is a crisis time on all sides in Washington. I think the president's right here. I just don't know where his leverage is. How does he get it? Let me know one eight six six eight seven six six nine the Russia investigation. First indictment in months, it happened to Roger stone the closest yet to the president United States. Don't tell me Matt aboard anything to do with it. Or all these oligarchs have any role in it. This is the guy that could cause trouble. What is Jonathan Turley think? And not think back in a moment with expert, then Senator John Cornyn big day. Don't move giving. You everything you need to know is Brian Kilmeade. No. Now, the three big things you need three three. It is over after thirty five days. The house has passed a measure that has now been signed by the president to reopen. The federal government for three weeks while border security funding is figured out ending the longest government shutdown in US history. Eight months after catching fire in the middle of a parade. Disney's mullets float has returned to the magic kingdom. Blunt indictment earlier today, former Donald Trump adviser Roger stone's seems to have lost the support from one his heroes. Former president Richard Nixon, the Nixon foundation tweeting out today this morning's widely circulated characterization of Roger stone as a Nixon campaign aide or adviser is a gross misstatement. The shutdown is over. I will sign a Bill to open our government for three weeks until February fifteenth in first thing Monday morning for the very latest on long-term deal negotiations, and what it means to you. This is where Orlando turns first for breaking news news ninety six point five WDBO when.

"Now, Senator John Cornyn had some interesting comments just a minute ago on the show in regards to Roger stone's arrest. He was well here he is he had he had a few things to say here. He is full. It looks to me like director Muller is focused with a lot of peripheral characters people that have maybe some association with the campaign, but nothing with actual the election, which is supposed to be the focus of the Russian investigation in the motor special counsel investigation. So I have no idea what Mr. stone did or did not do, but that has nothing to do with the Trump campaign and the results of the two thousand sixteen election law right to the phones at Gerry on three sixty good morning. Gary. Hello, Gary, good morning gentleman. Every time. I hear Cornyn voice. My blood boil is that well, he. Mitch McConnell's a lapdog and should have gotten border wall or security money funded along time ago, he's just part of the bureaucratic system. He's part of the swamp, and he needs to go we need fresh people. I don't know. He just ineffective. I think. Well, one other quick thing. Y'all talk yesterday about WalMart and truck driving. Yes. Yes. I was driving for a while. I listen to you all go in an me. And I did it. I right at Christmas because they wouldn't ever give me home for my own time. When I was supposed to go home who who you're driving for brutal persuade I quit. Why? Well, like, I said, they didn't get me home one. You go home every three and a half to five weeks for a few days to three days. Yeah. I would schedule it, and they wouldn't give me home in time. I gotcha. I gotcha. I got you didn't fix your life. I hear you. I understand that. Yeah. I'm sorry. I work done like that. Listen, I I agree with what corden was saying completely. I really do agreed with every single word. It's like what it comes down to is. Will they be able to ever if whoever their they get whatever they find out? Can you can you prove that it had a result in the election that it had some kind of influence in the election or did not have to? To which tells me it's all for nothing. I mean, if you break the law, if if if you attempt to kill someone you go to jail, I know you don't have to actually accomplish the cried to get arrested. I mean, it's one thing when you're you're one convict people that are involved in say a murder because you know, what the end result was it's very clear in this. This is this is is I've said before this is chasing a dog. This is a cart dog chasing a car. And once it gets the car, they're not going to know what the hell to do with some text messages where people are listening to the show from. Let's see here listening on my ipod really got an ipod. Instead, according to the unions that represent some airline workers the public could be at risk. Here's the scare tactics. They did they have to deal with all kinds of stuff in the coast guard illegal drugs coming through and things like that. The other thing is if you go online, and you do a detailed search, and I recommend you don't use Google. "Responsibility are flying. And the prospects of finding a quick solution to the crisis or of coming together to pass significant legislation when it ends remain grim now with Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, making his first significant legislative overture to break, the stalemate Sunday, the outcome might rest on the capacity of house speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Mr. McConnell to find a way to bridge the political divide between them their parties and the White House, but as congressional reporter Emily Cochran at the New York Times says their new relationship is not off to a good start. So the two of them, obviously, different backgrounds. Sides of the ideological spectrum. And they've often found the belts on opposite sides of several issues in the shutdown is the latest one day worked on different side of congress, obviously in different ideological sides. For decades, they have a working relationship, but it hasn't always gone. Well. That was interesting to read to in your piece that you said they have actually accomplished stuff before. Sometimes it's hard to remember that one day they get bogged down in the in things like this shutdown. Almost two decades ago they were both top members on their respective appropriations committee, and they work together on spending bolster foreign operations. Then another infant has an eight when congress associated the economic recovery package McConnell called her quote extraordinary. She was equally complimentary of his leadership, then but in recent years, they've certainly gone head-to-head speaker Pelosi with not very complimentary of the tax overhaul that just went through and later McConnell had issues with the Affordable Care Act when it was first introduced and several other parts of the democratic agenda when President Barack Obama was an office and later Pelosi. In charge about. So do these two generally dislike each other is this just politics? I think it's hard to say they they have a working relationship. They just happened to consistently end up on opposite sides of the issue. It's also worth noting. They tend to work with the other litter there, for example, speaker Pelosi spend more time working with Senator Chuck Schumer her democratic counterpart in the Senate and Kevin McCarthy who's the Republican leader in the house? But this time they're both leaders of their respective chamber. So it remains to be seen how they work together looking forward speak with Emily Cochran congressional reporter at the New York Times. She's got a piece called McConnell and Pelosi heavy fraught relationship, the shutdown hasn't helped anybody expecting that things will improve relationship wise. So that things can get done over the next two years that the question we've asked as reporters on Capitol Hill many times. In the last few weeks, and it's unclear. What what's next the first step is to get through the shutdown to end this impact? And even with the new proposal from the president from leader McConnell Pelosi is again going to introduce a Bill to reopen. The government herself this week. It remains fifty what is actually going to get through. And until that happens. Everything else is kind of at a standstill boy what about something like infrastructure, which people from both parties have expressed at least in some way, shape or form some interest remained abusing. But lawmakers are hopeful about they nonpartisan issue we need the public works overhaul. But again without a clear way out of the shutdown. They can't really get started working on it and going this long without any kind of compromise on reopening. The government doesn't bode well for any kind of compromise going forward. So there remained some optimism. But we'll have to see how the shutdown in coded Senator John Cornyn from Texas at the very tail into your story. He said, we'll figure something out. We always do don't seem very close at this point. That's the kind of optimism we asked about an infrastructure Bill or some of the legislative priority. Take on for example, the new North American trade deal or raising the federal spending limits or a plan to lower drug prices. There's still hope that something will get done with the shutdown. It's still unclear how exactly we're going to get out of that. But they haven't quite given up yet. Emily, emily. Cochran congressional reporter at the New York Times, fifteen minutes now after the hour on This Morning, America's first news. If this were just any door just any ignition. "Senator John Cornyn Republican from Texas. Senator from Texas. Unanimous consensus the corm copy dispense with without objection further aspirin animals consent that Douglas Madonna a congressional fellow in my office be granted four privileges for the remainder remainder of this year. Without objection. Colorado. Transgender. Into Corum call used when there is no Senator wanting to seek the floor. The Senate is in session today. The house as well is back at four PM eastern four legislative business. None of the business scheduled for the Senate or the house deals with reopening the government and the federal government is actually closed today because of the weekend snowstorm. We heard earlier from the Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, the democratic leader Chuck Schumer or another democrat has not yet come to the floor. We'll wait to see whether one does. So while we wait we return to a bit of this morning's Washington journal, we had on Jacky Simon from the union American federation of government employees talking about the partial government shutdown. Also took your questions and called a strike. This was in New York City. Jackie simon. Well, I think that you make a lot of very good points. Particularly the fact that the Senate voted unanimously on a Bill that's virtually identical to the one that Mitch McConnell refuses to allow a vote on. Now, you know, it's a new congress new year new congress. This is the one hundred sixteenth congress. There are a few senators, but I if if they vote the way they voted on December nineteenth there's enough support to override any kind of veto. So that's really a fairly simple and straightforward path out of this mess. We were just on the verge of avoiding shutdown. December when the president. Responding to some critics, I guess on cable news decided to move the goalposts. And there was a Bill. He was ready to sign and then he decided he would not sign it. So you've got a as as you've described? There's a clear way out of this for Mitch McConnell to allow without Ashland. Wisconsin is Scott federal worker. Go ahead. Good morning. I would like to provide my opinion on the blame on first of all it's not one party. It's all the politicians are to blame. Their sent there in voted into public office to stand up in negotiating on behalf of their contingents. President Obama ran in one office based on change President Trump. Now also got an office based on change America wants change they want politicians that'll provide them the information. They needed. Noticing congress they sailed their job with three continuing resolution. So they didn't fund the government when they should've Tober is a new fiscal year in congress didn't do that. And they weren't gonna shoot him back then so they're failing. And one other point. I'd like to mention to as federal employees. We can file for an appointment. If we need. Because we were a little status. Jackie seven is that something is recommending. Yes, we are. We are recommending. Unemployment eligibility varies by state, but we are absolutely recommending that that let employee's. Apply for unemployment benefits in their state. It's money that helps you keep audience altogether. You know, if you when this thing is over and you get back pay you you have to refund any of that unemployment benefits that you received. But absolutely you should get unemployment insurance benefits. If if you're able speak of win this thing is over White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett had an interview with the PBS NewsHour over the weekend. And he talked about furloughs and the impact on federal employees. Here's what he had to say workers are furloughed and right now it's about twenty five percent government workers are furloughed, which means that they are not allowed to go to work. But then when the shutdown ends they go back to work and they get their back. Pay future of government workers were gonna take vacation days say between Christmas news, and then we have a shutdown, and so they can't go to work. And so then they have the vacation, but they don't have to use their vacation days. And then they come back, and then they get their back pay. Then they're in some sense. They're better off. Jackie chan. Well, that's an absolutely absurd statement, federal employees are not better off as a result of this shutdown. They're hurting their facing, very serious financial consequences. Some even have their we'll have their security clearances place in jeopardy when they fall behind on their bills. It's one of the first things that puts security clearance, and ultimately a federal job in jeopardy is falling behind on your bills people will have to pay late fees. They may lose their daycare slots may may even lose their homes if God forbid they were already behind in their payments is unequivocally unambiguously bad for federal employees. That's why the overwhelming majority almost complete majority want this thing to end right away. Just a few minutes before the end of our program today on this day, twenty four of the government shutdown. We'll take a few more calls Jaggi. Simon of the American federation of government employees Mahdi's waiting in Idaho, falls, Idaho. Good morning. Good morning. Good money. Jackie. Good morning. C span. I thank you for taking my call. My thing is that a lot of people. Just don't understand anything. Government workers never hold people as harsh. But if the government as the president and the congress. The Kansas Senator publicans if they don't have no concern about people and workers, you know, they could do anything, but just like that tax cuts to the rich. They could upset about the wall then. Yeah. Use that money to pay for the wall or. Yeah. You could have just come out and tell the American people, you know, what I want to be at a wall. And I want you to pay for it just be honest with the people, and and then they will go from there. So Jackie Simon. You're right there certainly were many opportunities over the last two years when the Republicans controlled both the house and the Senate, and obviously the White House when they could have passed funding for this particular. Element of security this notion of a wall, and they did not. So I think your characterization of the current situation as a holding place hostage. We've used the word extortion. We've used the word Pons hostage situation. You know, any of those things I think are good descriptions of what's going on. And it's shameful Lee is in south Portland. Made good morning. Yes. This is Lee in good morning to you. What I wanted to say was Mitch McConnell will not bring this up to these voted on because his wife works for Donald Trump. She's secretary of transportation to me that's a conflict of interest and the and the wife of any of those senators that's has anything to do with passing laws should be working for the president. It's definitely a conflict of interests. Don't you think? That's the reason why Mitch McConnell will not bring those bills up for vote. Jackie Simon thoughts. Well, I don't agree that you know, spouses. You can't work for the same employee employer or be involved in the same kind of issues. Obviously the secretary of transportation has her own interests and professional responsibilities as does Mitch McConnell. You know, there's lots of speculation as to why Mitch McConnell has been so reluctant, shall we say that's a nice word to allow a vote and your theory could be true. But I certainly don't think that it would be fair to bar the spouses of politicians are political appointees from any particular occupation. Less than a minute left. What is what is afghan- ease plan for a day twenty four of the government shutdown? Well, we've been having protests at at federal installations and offices all over the country. And and at at senator's offices, and we've encouraged our members just make to flood Senate offices with phone calls to ask their friends and their family members to put as much pressure as they possibly can on senators to get a vote on the house passed preparations. Have you tracked? How many calls that is meant. And what you've been able to generate from what you've been pushing somebody at my organization has its numbers in the thousands. But I can tell you the number right now. But hopefully, those numbers will grow a lot in the coming days. There is one more federal worker waiting to chat with you. Marie in Wisconsin. Go ahead. I've been coming into a little bit later to the show. But the one thing I haven't heard mentioned is what are other federal employees. Saying crust in our household? We feel like we have a lot of labels put on us that people out in the media or just even say, they want to say, well, if you feel this way, you know, you're a Republican or you feel this way, you're a democrat, and they don't even ask our opinion or that of how we feel. And that we just get stuck with a lot of labels. And I'm just wondering how many other people you've soak with kinda feel almost ostracized in that by the general public. Thanks for that that comment. I think that you raise a really important point federal plays are a political when they're doing their jobs. Absolutely. They're not on one side or another. But another another issue that I think maybe you're getting at is these labels essential. And essential. It's. They aren't even the labels that the federal agencies use. But the law is what decides who is required to work during a shutdown and who is locked out and prevented from doing their job, and it really has to do with the protection of life the protection of property. And then there's a little discretion on the part of of politicians to decide who else. Politicians who run the agencies who else gets to come to work and who who gets locked out, but people who are locked out are not in essential. They do very important work for the American people, and they should be respected for it and appreciated for it. And and we should get rid of these labels of essential and essential because every federal employee is doing an important job. That's essential Jacky, Simon is policy director of the American federation of government employees. Always appreciate your time. Thank you so much from this morning's Washington journal. "john cornyn" Discussed on 600 WREC
"You wanna talk about? I'm here for you. Just waiting to hear you call. So we're talking about Paula Feinstein's assault weapons ban and to counteract that Texas. Senator John Cornyn introduces the constitutional Kerry, I'm sorry. The constitution concealed carry reciprocity. Act. He has off. He has submitted is introduced to this to kind of go against Feinstein's Bill that she introduced and by the way, this the one that Senator Cornyn has introduced has been cosponsored by our very own Marsha Blackburn. So she's getting right into the mix right away. She's stirring, it up mixing it up right off the bat. Great. Some of the things that his act would would. Ensure I guess or that all buying citizens to exercise their fundamental right to self-defense while they are traveling or temporary living away from home. It allows individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to conceal carry in any other state that also allow concealed carry it. Treats state issue concealed carry permits. Driver's license point individual can use their home state license to drive in other states, but must abide by the other states speed limits road lows. So that's always been the cover a no brainer. Why can't we awfully state issued firearms carry permit concealed Harry? Your state particularly words it but all of that off of that permit. Why can't you carrying other states? We can we can drive another states off of the the Tennessee driver license. I can drive in any state in the union with that driver's license. Why can't I can't in other states? And it looks like maybe you Senator Cornyn trying to get that going now. My question is. If this was so important to him. He's been in congress for some time. If this was so important to him. Why did he not introduce it when the Republicans had control of the house and the Senate why is this just now becoming something is it is it grandstanding just to show his opposition to Feinstein's Bill. You know, I would have probably really appreciated head. He introduced that. While we had the Republicans hate control of the house incident. But he didn't and neither did the cosponsored. Neither one of them. Brought it up earlier Ted Cruz. Marco Rubio, Marco Rubio or John thune any of these ones that cosponsored nowhere. Brought it up before they'll have to wait for Feinstein and nets south common political to me. You can't trust them. All right. So quick some quick news stories here. The anti-gun Chicago alderman, Ed Burke, who has been in the in control there in Chicago as an alderman for a very long time. He was recently charged with extortion. Absolute power corrupts. Absolutely. Right. So that's what he's dealing with. Now, the extortion charges. But the funny thing is that funny. Ha ha, but funny ironic. Is that twenty three guns were found in his office as as the Fed's rate his office in the extortion investigation. He has been. Against guns. For a long time. He's wave. He's violated. All these Chicago. We're gonna freeze all by keeping his off. He was the one who is against goes for all these all this time. Let's see what it says here. Yeah. So he's he's had bodyguards, of course. And all that kind of thing. But he himself has had has has been found with twenty firearms in his office. Even though he is a staunch gun control advocate. As the hypocrisy. We see in politicians. We certainly see in Hollywood. But the politicians the Hollywood it's all the same salts in group. It's just the the politicians are. Well, they say the politicians are the ones who too ugly to go into the Hollywood into movies. So the politicians do that instead, and there was partial truth to that. And it's always kind of the same the same ilk. You can't trust any of them the politicians or the or the Hollywood elite. Are here's another story. And this one again funny ironic, kind of funny ha to actually. It's a sad day when the ATF when the ATF is the sound of logic and region and reason in our society, it is a sad day when the ATF. Has the more logical approach to something the more grounded approach, and here's the story from the ATF. Recently, someone that the NSF that's the national sport shooting federation decided to ask the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms and explosives the ATF about train sorry about gender queer firearm purchasing. I didn't know that gender queer was an actual. I guess it's one of those two different words, but apparently this article it's all the same. So the gender queer firearm purchasing, for example, let's say an individual walks into a gun store with one of the non binary driver's license that are issued in certain jurisdictions. Again, one of those new word non binary legally on both the driver's license and birth certificates mind you. The individual sex is listed as X, not male female forgot created him, male and female, right? No also ex for non binary as the ATF clarified. They'll driver's license do count as valid identification. Documents has defined by eighteen US code one zero two eight a document mater issued by or under the authority of the United States government. When completed with information concerning particular individual. Is of a type intended or commonly accepted for the purpose of identification of individuals. However. When it comes to the Knicks background checks, a male or female identification is required on ATF form, forty four seventy three and we talked about that for him in detail over the weeks. That's the one that you have to fill out when you purchase a fire from a federal firearms. Licensed dealer. So you must check male or female on the require ATF form. There is no non binary option of X and perspective gun buyers may not leave bought box six blank. That's because all entries in the Knicks database are coded as male or female. He can't be changed without a system wide overhaul. So f- F L's may not transfer firearms to individuals who refuse to identify as male or female. So. That said section thirty one of four forty four seventy three permits the licensee document any additional information, they believe is relevant and that would be in place to note a discrepancy between non binary six on the driver's license and by near identification on the transfer form. So now, you know, apparently that. You cannot transfer a gun to someone who refused to Mark box six they have to Mark either, male or female. I am deeply sorry to all the gender queer out there who are wanting to purchase firearms and have a non binary sex, given all the driver's license. But ATF says that we are not allowed to break the law. All right. We got a caller on online one here. The head to defend themselves at some point, Brian you're on triggered with Scott Kilby six hundred ninety two point one tell me about your story. Brian, thanks. There was actually not mayor's mob. Little red headed daughter three just got out of college. I live in Lenore North Carolina, and let's heart wholesome, and I love you love you love you station. Thank you so much. She she'd written down to Atlanta for job interview was on her way back. Stop got gas and a cracker. And I drank and gentleman grabbed her arm or my daughter. The day. She turned twenty one I took her down and she bought SR nine save forty and she loved it s are forty sorry. She practice with it regularly. But she carries it in their pocket book with zipper down man, grabbed her arm. She dropped what she had. She reached into her pocket book and that man jump back out four or five feet his hands up to. No, no, no, no. I just want to ask you, quite right. I'll you don't put your hands on me. Right. Exactly. That was her tail and my favorite weapon yesterday caliber and all one I got my pocket when I need it doesn't matter. There you go. Another good answer. Thank you very much. So Bryan had had a situation where he got his daughter who was going to college a pistol and show faithfully. She ever had the draw use it. But by golly. As a as a father, doesn't that mean something to you fathers out there as a father to know that you're sending your daughter out into this dark world? And without the ability to defend yourself. For those of you, the the libs, the Democrats, the great unwashed, you're a father, your father, man. What are your top three? What are your top three reasons to be on this earth history? Protect your child, and you're not always there to do it. You're not always able to do that. How do you? How do you sleep at night? You you democrat progressive liberals, how do you? How do you sleep at night without sending your daughter or son out into this dark dark world where things like this happen all the time? If you want to hear about a human trafficking, and abductions and Memphis is the hub for that. And you and you have the. You have the nerve.
