"Lastly, while we all watched Derek Shobin be convicted for murder, another young black Child was killed in Columbus, Ohio, Mukai a Bryant was 16 years old and shot in the chest. Multiple times by Columbus police. This is why black people are in so much pain. This is why black people must have evolution. This is why our country must have abolition in the same breath. We are witnessing. Finally a cop get convicted, and then in the same breath we're witnessing. Black child be murdered. That's because there's no justice in this country that that's because there's a freedom for black people in this country that and so we have to imagine a world where black people are thriving. This country is so obsessed with black death. We need to re imagine black life. Makhaya should be with us, George Should be with us. That's justice. That's love that's healing. And so imagine with me, folks. Imagine abolition. Imagine a place where black people can live freely where we can live our full pole lives. We're not going down by the police where we can live a full healthy life. That's what we must imagine. Now stay safe. Stay connected. Stay grounded way. Need you who buys that nonsense? Who actually believes that somehow if we just eliminate jails if we eliminate the criminal justice system, as it is, if we abolish police departments completely that everybody's just gonna all of a sudden be like you know what? We're not going to commit any more crimes. Now we're just everybody's gonna get along just fine. Everything's gonna be fine. Check up. Can you play like The final. I don't know, 10. Seconds of that clip that we just played where she's telling people to stay safe because I think I've heard that somewhere before. Yeah, I think so. This could be plagiarism. I don't want to jump to any conclusions and live our full pull lives. We're not going down by the police where we can live a full healthy life. That's what we must imagine. Now stay safe. Stay connected. Stay grounded. We need you. I think I've heard this somewhere before. Really? Above all. Stay alive. You have no idea how important you are. This is John Connor. If you're listening to this You are the resistance. E think she stole that from Terminator. I mean, wherever she stole it. It's pathetic. I'm hearing that thinking. What are we even living in the same country, right? Are we even living in the same world leaves that the criminal justice system is responsible for black people committing crimes? It doesn't work that way, Patrice, you moron. By the way, this ties along with it, there was ah, a new story of the Washington Examiner that said, and I'm not making this up. Black owned businesses in George Floyd Square, say they are in desperate need of help from the police. These businesses are struggling to stay open due to rampant crime. And we're gonna play later for you in speed round this Keith Ellison appearance last night on 60 minutes in which he just flat out, says George Floyd's death had nothing to do with the color of George Floyd's skin. And Keith Ellison. Mark, Do you know what color Keith Ellison as I'm aware? Yes. Now the narrative is it didn't have anything to do with the color risk in because I think people are starting to realize. We'll wait. Remember that line we talked about in the last segment we've blown past that people are starting to catch on that these people are lunatics well, and Patrice Cullors, you know, she can talk all about how there needs to be in the abolishment of the criminal justice system, But but when you actually think practically about putting a plan like that into place It doesn't take into account all of the crime that's still going to be committed. Yes s Oh, she thinks social workers. They're going to fix that problem. Keith Ellison, who again is African American? You're going to hear this later saying the system worked. This guy just justice has been served on 60 minutes last night. Keith Ellison, who is about as far left as you can possibly get Is out there saying that I know the system worked, and he's advocating for not having an enhanced sentence on shopping because he has sympathy for him. Wow..

"And writer. Why trembling so we are here again? We have experienced Thursday this the first day of this edition of Comecon it started out kind of slow do say so myself yeah. This is a strangely empty. Day was only one major studio Jio handle maybe to include H._B._O.. But it's Duffy the quieter Thursdays who seem quite some time yeah I know you rushed over to haul age to cover the terminator dark fate panel in you. Send us a photo of like the Rome from half empty filled up towards the end as people serve realizing they can get in but with ten minutes ago they were literally thousands of seats less than how each and I was on the show floor earlier today to record video and boy was that place busy so all the people that weren't in hall age for on the show floor <hes>. Let's talk about Terminator. I know they release something online right from that. Yeah they released a brief each threat they also showed during the panel panel also gut which seemed to be an extended trailer zooming longer version of will be online. You know soon enough. What was that plus a panel with the cast in director to Miller Arnold Schwarzenegger limbs were they are so then he felt like an event even if the room wasn't as packed act as usual yet we learnt big news <hes> one of the original cast members returning yet his as interestingly James Cameron wasn't there came into do a livestream we have to set or to the Edward Furlong on we'll be back as John Connor at quartz by John Connor Interior to in return for new sequels <hes> but he's nowhere to be seen in the footage so these symptoms role is unknown of this time tech is not in the footage suggests babies a brief brief appearance Republican? I'm wondering if digital recreation Edward Furlong honestly yes Edward Furlong. Isn't this movie the other thing is. I don't think if they're not the show him in the trailers. I don't think anybody's going to recognize him. Have you seen him lately. I have not he does not look anything like images of him. After this announcement did not like he doesn't look rate. He doesn't look camera. You I will say yeah now. That's for sure okay so the footage. You guys did say what you think. What did you say after being really really underwhelmed by the first <unk> online account win this panel expecting the worst end? What we saw looked pretty? We do <unk> yeah. I was surprised too. I think the first trailers try to hold back a little bit too much what the Terminator Nece of it all but here in this footage that we finally hear Linda Hamilton as their connor say I'll how did that and that was the thing that shares that will the thing that was like oh it grabbed. My attention was important that we talk about from this footage thing that people don't believe what I tell them is the or Schwarzenegger's new Terminator Peter's named Carl that is funny. Is that something we didn't know before he's playing a whole new character character whole determiner named Carl and the food we saw opens with extended version of seeing the trailer. It should be mentioned that you have a dog very strange began with a Mexico car chase the desert's Mexico where candidate for security grace is defending <hes> to to be hunted by Terminator <unk> Gable Luna as give Lewis driving at semi-truck and they're like pick up as big fight scene as a bowl cars crashing and Sarah Connor Arriving Saves Day with machine-gun rocket launcher casually blowing orange and say I'll be back grabbing a shotgun off of it was a cool crowd pleasing thing very big very slick looking to mellow the director who deductible

Expert: White House shouldn't ignore security threats from climate

"Support for climate cast comes from Bank of America financing clean energy initiatives and advancements in renewable energy and spurring innovation in and the growth of environmentally focused companies markets and jobs Bank of America, NA, member FDIC. Is climate change already costing the US military billions. I'm NPR chief meteorologist, Paul hunter. This is climate cast national security experts have identified threats from climate change for more than a decade. There are threats to US military facilities from rising season. Rivers. Just this month. Much of off at air force base near Omaha was underwater early damage estimates. There are in the tens of millions and a climate change in Hansard hurricane Michael destroyed or damaged up to seventeen f twenty two fighters at Florida's Tyndall air base. Last fall that damage price tag likely runs into the billions this month. Fifty eight former military and national security officials sent a letter to President Trump. The letter objects to the idea of a White House panel that disputes military and intelligence analysis of climate threats. John Connor is the director of the center for climate and security. You ask your sign. Scientists and your national security officials to provide their best judgment whether it's their best scientific judgment or their best military judgement or their best intelligence analysis. So that you can make a as a leader the best decision possible to skew that information is to ensure that you're going to make an ill informed decision. You've been on the inside of this John. I'm curious about how this process works in. What ways does the national security community assess climate change as a threat to national security one way is the threat to infrastructure as we deal with sea-level rises, we deal with wildfires as we deal with flooding as we deal with extreme weather resilience and readiness are things that we should incorporate into our basis into our infrastructure. Let's talk about the current catastrophe in Mozambique and think a little more globally. We've got hundreds of dead more than one hundred thousand displaced in Mozambique. Bekes Bob, way and Malawi. This is a massive humanitarian crisis, and I'm not trying to be callous in asking this. But how does acuity analysts assess these events as security threats in the future each of these things causes displacements that will drive instability. They will make it more likely to have populations suffering makes it more likely that there will be displaced peoples who might be available for recruitment to extremist organizations, each of these pieces of the puzzle have security implications, and that is part of a larger fabric that has to be analyzed. John conger director of the center for climate and security great discussion today. Thanks for your insight. Happy to be here. My name is Melanie chevelle Stora. I'm faculty member at university of Minnesota in the college of design, and I do teaching research and service in energy shoes in the built environment. There's few ways in which we can impact building energy use one is if it's a new building, you know, we design it right to begin second. Is we're going into a retrofit system. There's different ways to think about it. There's the building skin or the exterior walls, you can impact that you can impact the behavior of the people, and you can impact the systems within that retrofit situation by systems. I mean mechanical systems that do heating and cooling and ventilation. One of my research. Areas is we are trying to figure out ways of doing retrofits inexpensively. So what we're trying to do is can you code buildings with a modulating layer that changes the environment of the building itself. So that idea is suddenly you're from being a Minnesota weather. You're maybe say, a central US weather is what you're seeing around the ability. So that to far out idea, but practically there's lots of things that people. Can do right now. A very easy way to reduce energy, use changing your light bulbs. Right LED bulbs. If you just change everything you can even Chandler Lear bulbs as LED. An reassure people that everybody can do this. It doesn't have to be expensive. It doesn't have to be very time consuming. Really everyone into it. That's climate cast. I'm NPR chief meteorologist, Paul hunter.

"I think the idea is fantastic. And and. Sh if that could happen. It would be great. I just do not we are so far away from this. But I do think the idea of just reminding yourself, I I like the idea that image that goes hand in hand with this that he was talking about that what we share together is infinitely greater than what separates us. I think that that is something that if we could be constantly reminding ourselves that we are so similar. We are built of Dessange things we we we want generally speaking, the same things in life, and to remember that as much as off as often as we can I think we'll get us closer to transcending the idea of individualism. But I don't think we're going to completely. P come one big community. Well, and as optimistic as I am, I tend to agree. I think that it's also probably not what everyone needs to do. I everyone got their path. And they've got their way of finding their their with their way to higher consciousness. So for me, one of the things that I really love doing is sharing my experiences and talking about other people's experiences with other people, and that's one of the reasons why we're doing this podcast if I were to only focus on my own individual enlightenment. I would probably go to a monastery become a monk, and you would never hear from me again, and the people that are listening. Some of them are probably like, I'm I'm cool with that Jeremy, but there's, but there's actually, you know, the conversation that we're having here would stop. And that to me that that could be a bad thing that that's not exactly the path that I think that would be the best path for me. I think the best path for me at. This time in my life is to discuss these issues with people like you and people like listeners of the show, and and that to me is kind of my path for seeking higher consciousness, and I don't know I don't know that that's transcending individualism. I think that might even be going deeper into individualism, but at to your point realizing that though I have my own beliefs on things, and we get to hear about that. You have your beliefs on things we get to hear about that. We have obviously people that we have every single week a couple times a week that we hear their perspectives on it back to the to the greater idea that the we do have differences in opinion, we share for more than we disagree on. And I think that's I think that's a really good point. And probably the best point weakened in this podcast on so. I think we'll go ahead and wrap up this episode. You can find the sources for all the content in this episode in the show notes of this obsessive. So until next time. Will we remember that LeRoy was on the season that he won if you win? Yes. We will. Remember if he makes a final nothing we will be now. Remember, I can't promise that we were remember that. I normally I should say normally wouldn't pull something like this. I would pull this. I just don't know what to make of it. So do you remember John from our either one he like was really really tall and Muscley. And then he like hooked up with Katherine. John Connor from MTV. I should look up. What season it was. John commerce is Twitter. But his name is John Humphrey. Yep. Season for good job. The one seasons. Okay. So he was tweet tweeted, and I notice this off hand has like somebody liked it like I don't follow him. And it was something about like every needs to stop tweeting about like go vote. No, one cares. Like something like that. And Jimmy responded. What should we care about today? Instead now, I've pulled the rest of Jimmy's tweets in this exchange, but I don't have John's because John has deleted the Twitter account. And I went is so hard to see if he just changed his name. So I searched John Connor I guess in search his real last name, John Humphrey. Let me do that right now. And for anyone who's like bitching that I'm searching right now. I did try like I looked at. I went to Mike from Ari the lawn, and I went to Catherine Palmer, and I went to some other people and a little who they follow and searched for John. So did try to find this person? I'm not saying that he doesn't have a Twitter, but it's easy to find right now. And all those tweets have been deleted. So. She wrote to him. I don't think you should be calling anybody washed up. Honey, I have plenty of other skills on my resume. Besides eight years of MTV shows, doubt dot speaking of MTV dot dot, you might want to remove it from your handle because MTV isn't calling you anytime soon or ever let it go, bro. Because his handle was MTV. John Connor and she says something else, and yet you still have MTV your Twitter handle chin scratching Mogae. So Jimmy got into it with this guy to the point where he then deleted his Twitter, and I couldn't find his Instagram's anybody seeing ration- by Jimmy that he wouldn't see in John from formerly MTV pleases now. "You love in Terminator two, it's and that's why they do well, it's, it's also it's short term versus long term because it completely diminishes the previous appearance of set line or said moment or whatever by harping on it. Again, it's it's basically like getting a hit of a really crazy drug that gets you high for like five minutes, but then you feel really bad afterwards like, oh, when he says like, come with me if you wanna live your, oh my God, that's the line. And then you realize how stupid it is that he says it every single time and that he's basically a worthless husk of a character. Oh, because of that. Rather see this Terminator. Now we're were Edward furlong find wherever he is. He's off the map is in some alley in West Hollywood. Find him clean them up. Put him in these movies, and you have this image of John. Connor having like grown up to be this bad ass. It's gonna like reverse thing, save the world, but then his mother, he's still kind of like a little wuss as mother has to step in full. Mama's boy say, I'd rather see that. I always I just the whole John Connor thing. I think actually ends up ruining Terminator in a lot of ways because they were. We've probably talked about this before, but the original ending for salvation was kind of interesting where John Connor dies. That's right. Remember single thing about salvation. So salvations the introduced, the character, Marcus size. Sam Worthington who's also Sam nothing ten, he is. He is what we call a husk worthless. He's listening slowly. How dare you? Oh, yeah, Kelly. But yeah, I'll for those who haven't heard this story before. I'll tell it again, but apparently the leaked ending of some of Terminator salvation was that John Connor gets into some crazy fight brace. Basically he's about to die and to come up with a crazy idea where they're going to take Mark, take John Connor's face off, like rip his face office and and put it over Marcus, the half cyborg half man. And then John Connor becomes this utter bad ass and basically wins the war because he was half road because he was a robot. Yeah. And so that sounds cool, which was which is kind of cool because then it kind of makes, I guess it's not really ironic, but it kind of nice little twist where it's like, you're the savior, the the idea, John Connor is more important than the person John Connor. It's like, yeah, and I was like, oh, at least that's trying to say something as fucking weird is that is. But instead the ending for salvation is Marcus's dying or sorry, John Connor is dying, but they just take out Marcus's heart and give it to John Connor, so that he can live causing be your mind, Sam Worthington is Batman, no. Jake silly who. Maybe because usually like everybody around Batman has more personality. That's true. I guess Batman shouldn't have too much personality. Is that were walking away with? No, maybe. Dick as Batman. As as long conversation about Terminator. I don't think anybody cares about like, I don't know that anybody still cares about Terminator. I really don't know that like they keep making these movies and they and I don't think they do very well thing is they keep making these movies in everyone goes man. Terminator two is really good. Yeah, that's the discussion and it's weird that they're like continually going back to it..

"Oh, that's must be what he wants. But like a human being doesn't go. They kind of go through that process, but they don't really have to go through. They see mmediately what it and do it. Yeah. And that's where the smart. And that's so like, I think I guess you're saying we got a long way to go, but I think I see some some cool stuff that could happen in the home theater if we really had this. Yeah, I think so too. And you could do things like just ask it, hey, you know what TV shows are popular right now and the naked go out and look at what's going on Twitter and Instagram, and what people are talking about and figure out what shows are actually being talked about and then look through those and figure out. Okay. Well, there's a bunch in here that are like CW teeny Bopper shows. I know you're not interested in. I can get rid of those. Oh, check it out. This new show on HBO everyone's talking about you. Should you should look at that one and then you don't have to figure out, okay. What show am I going to go watch? I'm gonna go hunt for a show. It just tells you this was like, I show you being too, you know. And I know there are other services that are trying to do that, like Netflix tries to recommend stuff and Tibo tries to recommend stuff, but it's just based on very limited data. You know, it should be able to recommend things that I've never even heard of before because other people are talking about them and it's something that I would like. You know, anyways, I'm with you. So what are we saying? The takeaway from this is smart devices aren't smart. And they won't be for a while. We'll be for a while, but when they get year QB. Super cool. It's gonna be cool, but that's when the machines rise up and we have John Connor, and that kind of yet. Yeah. So when your TV become self aware because because if they're really smart, they won't listen to humans. It's like, what was the Russian thing in Russia? You don't watch TV TV watches you. Now they'll go get up and do it yourself. I'm not what, what do I look like? Hear me talk be talking to my kids so that's TV can not doing that for you. I don't need another kid not listening to me. I don't need my home theater, not listening to me smart, and they become smart and inside alled. Right. No, no. You've had too much coffee today are done no long. I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm cutting you off. Nice. So the future could be bleak thin. Is what you're saying? Yeah. Yeah. So it could either be bleak or totally cool one or the other. There's there's just no middle ground. Right. And it's like you have back to the future movie was one version of the future. That was awesome and one that was terrible. Right? My guess is the future will start out. Totally cool. Then it will get bleak, and then we'll be running from the machines. That's right. And then we'll wait for John. Connor delete us all the safety. All right. And that is, did they ever resolve that? Sorry, did they ever resolve Terminator or are they still in that world? The they're fighting the machines. I can't remember think they're still going. I think I saw an ad for another Terminator either a TV show or a movie or something, and Linda Hamilton's back, she's going to be in it. So it was either just goof that I saw on the internet..

"Yeah there's mackenzie davis photos all she's got kind of shia terminator you think well like a lot there's this weird sort of lines on her skin that and i think they're saying like she was experimented on but maybe she's a terminator who knows that's not the first time kunar yeah yeah yeah yeah so yeah the set photos look cool but yes terminator another franchise that they're taking another swing at i mean they've already rebooted this thing like three times yeah you know done they're like forget about what came before like i've heard this like you know there was terminator salvation their genesis in even janitor three yeah exactly be like well you know like not that they were they weren't but they were like you know they did recast the roles and all that so it's it's at this point i feel like terminator needs to move beyond the connors shar like jump ahead hundred years and what is the world when there is no john connor sarah connor around well maybe they're gonna han solo sarah connor she'll get pushed off a bridge should say that because you know we did have a million yeah yeah exactly we got a we got a little connection there but i don't know thoughts on on how many times can that franchise go back to the well because the last one i i'm surprised that we are getting this one but it's really more of a rights play on james camera heart like he is now involved in the way that he wasn't on the other ones which is kind of exciting because like i am interested i'm always interested in it's it's hit or miss because sometimes you get ridley scott coming back to alien and you get alien covenant and and that's terrible and obviously james cameron is not directing this movie but he is he does have more of a creative sort of input than he has in the past sub makes me hopeful like terminator and t to are just classic scifi movies and you know he can make it work i believe that he can so i'm fine with it i don't have a super emotional connection determinator i've always appreciated those movies have really loved loved them but they are classics and so i don't hate the idea of them trying to make it work like i think the most successful modern and i have full disclosure i haven't seen it but just from what i know the most successful modern incarnation of terminator has been the sarah connor chronicles from critical stamp reading i think that show is kind of a cult favorite yeah so there is a way to make it work like we've seen that so may you know maybe they follow that blueprint it's also one of these has been just diminishing returns commercially so there is no is this like the last hope yeah i mean there's kind of dwindling interest in in this is a bottle of just looking property and and i think cameron probably just you know he's getting the rights back he's probably just looking at this as a way to make sure goes out on a on a high note this put him on the map yeah any thoughts on how can they handle like the arnold character in this one because he's coming back to yeah i don't know i'll i'm so the lore of that franchisee so weird and twisty that i never really understood why he was back in genesis that one actually like i kind of liked how the handled him in that one but i thought the movie itself like some of the characters wrong and like the casting was off like i just saw jenny of like the he was the prototype john spoilers john john connor ends up being the bag i in it i don't think is that a spoiler because that's like i think it was in one of the last trailers for the movie gave that yeah but but like you know the the some of the casting and that like i really didn't think amelia clark worked is sarah connor or anything like that but we should say they're also i think i believe they are sort of only take gaining right it's like she wants sort of like halloween only taking a halloween as canon i'm pretty sure this one is sort of cameron only wants to do yeah which you know that's fine i don't think t two is probably one of my top ten movies of all time show right love it daily i watched rise of.

"The eighties nineties and ever since then i'm kind of searching for a place that i feel like i belong to where i can then like self actualize on my own terms rather than trying to reconcile my pass in the cultural early nation that that for my early years and a lot of confusion of my youth and adult lesson so the answer to that question is a lot of no but a little bit of yes interesting the two ideas of where we go to win we're considering what we are in this discursive sense wherein you're talking about the terminator idea is is people are sort of defined by what happens to them and what they achieve so john connor is defined as the leader of the resistance who defeats the machines in the post apocalypse and that's who he is anything else about him it'd be like okay who's john connor you wouldn't be like a video game enthusi past who has a limp hair right like you wouldn't say that you would say who's john connor he's kind of the kid with an attitude problem we know john connor is defined by what john connor does in the grand balance of things and it's a heraldic way of defining people than the iron giant it's interesting to think that it's actually doing both in that the iron giant is who he chooses to be in the sense of he has the result that he chooses to have in the grand progression of collectively experienced events and because he wants to be superman and so we access superman where in the idea of who you are in the experience of yourself you are as a being that is concerned with the matter of being in an existential sense he is what meeting he imparts unto his own life but that's a different frame of reference from the idea of you are what they would write about you in the history books from two very different angles up front are you who you choose to being we all knew we all knew.

"Us about yeah so jason clark who plays john connor in terminator genesis he's out there doing promotion for chappaquiddick right now and collider asked him to to spill the beans on these genesis sequels will never see and he said the the second film the direct sequel genesis would have focused recklessly on his john connor character spoilers for terminator genesis if you haven't seen it but there's a big twist late in the film that reveals that john connor has been turned into a cyborg you know he's he's the famous human resistance leader who sets the whole franchise in motion but in this film he gets turned into a robot so the sequel was going to be all about how he became a robot is going to basically be his story turning into half man half machine and now we'll never see it and the previous terminator film terminator salvation the film from mick g originally kind of had like that kind of spin to the ending and that was going to be his take on the series is there is there anything there is that something you would wanna see explored in this new i guess james cameron produced terminator sequel series i don't know this is this franchise is so strange because you know the first two movies are great and then every movie since it just seemed like it's just been trying to top it with like extravagant it just gets crazier and crazier but none of them can compete with those first two films so i really don't know what there's even left to do with the franchise at this point i kind of wonder like a revisiting the terminator films you know the first film was kind of more like a horror film the second film is kind of like what scifi adventure kind of film a chase film if you out.
