"And you could tell, 'cause it's riddled with cliches. And then there are other times where you feel like you are in the hands of a true storytelling master. And that combination that kind of collision of positive and negative is it really rattled for me. Even the second time. We've talked about this before about as a filmmaker or filmmakers achieve success the one thing that they lose is the ability to edit themselves. That it becomes harder to believe that everything doesn't deserve to be in the movie. I could give you another example, The Wachowskis, the matrix is a sleek, sexy, like, experiment and just minimalism. Just like, hey, we get to the point, Peter, call me, boom, boom, boom. Next movie there's a council. And they went full Star Wars. And then the lore gets so big that the subsequent films kind of get way down under kind of the weight of it. I'm not saying that that didn't happen here with Avatar. What I'm saying is for me, the highs of the movie connect so easily for me, story wise. There are things that you forget like, I have actually, until we were just having this conversation forgot that there's a whole part of the story that I really didn't understand. Like how she has special powers. You know what I mean? And so, but when she is like, you know, vibing with it. When she's like touching the jellyfish and swimming around and wonder and you actually can see sir gurney weaver as like a team making the face of wonder as she swims around in the ocean. I just thought that was beautiful. It looks great. And so look at him. But to me, let me tell you what, let me tell you what kind of brings me back. Jason Isaacs one time. You know that guy that actor? Yeah. So maybe I hope that it's, it might be Isaac. I think it's Isaac's. Isaac's right. Isaac's because I have to put an S on the end of stuff as people in my culture. Yeah, you got some outreach there for your groundhog's day situation. Me and my dad let it be let it be known that no one here corrected you. Thank you. Very much. Okay. So I saw him in the gym one time. And he's kind of cut. Nah, he's a motherfucker who's doing this thing. He was in that bitch. I was like, yo, and so I'm a fucking doing his thing, bro he was in that motherfucker going. This was something years ago. Jay-Z, he wasn't playing around. So I'm in the gym one time. I'd love to and I'm like, dude, I know you. And he's like, you know what he had on at that point? He had that show brotherhood. Yes. That was on showtime. It was him and your man. Jonathan Tucker was he on that show? No, you got to play. Is that his name? The guy who plays, he played John Connor in terminator genesis. This is like a really well-known actor. It was him, I don't know. Jason Clark. Jason Clark, yes, okay. Yeah, Jason Clark, so good actor. Great actor. So I go up to moza yo dog, I love the patriot.

"So getting back to Mark asper. Now, do you remember there was a murder of George Floyd and innocent man who was, I think, the petty crime, petty crime, and he made the fat free hamburgers, it drips off the fat into the tray, and then they kill them. No, do you remember there was a police officer who was kneeing on his neck for over 8 minutes? Was in college, she had a George Floyd grill, so that's George Foreman. George Foreman is the guerrilla George Floyd. Is a man who was murdered by police officer. No, we have, okay, excuse me. We have both said that you pronounce it however you want to pronounce it, but we both acknowledge that there was a very nasty murder. Okay. So after that murder, there were protesters in the streets. And you asked Mark. Excuse me, many of them were rioting. Many of them are and it was a very scary time. There were some people writing for sure, but you did ask Mark Esper if they can shoot these people who are protesting, but just in the leg. This is true. It's called mercy. Oh, mister president, so you're so mean, you want to shoot that. No, I want to ship them in like, did you see? I don't like this person because he's starting to radical left, but did you see the movie terminator two? Yes, I saw turning Judgment Day. Arnold Schwarzenegger, yes. Very strong Christian movie about Judgment Day. A kid in the movie. John Connor. Yes. He says you can't go around killing people. And so the terminators that shooting people in the leg. He doesn't kill the people. He just goes. And their legs. And I thought that's the kind of president I'm going to be a terminator with mercy. But that's a movie..

"You're going back to where it all started going back to the matrix. Well i'm hype for that film that sick and it's popcorn you get the idea though. I mean you don't see the real trailer. You get the gist of it. Yes so we were debating my first hunch after watching the trailer that there's no freaking way. This movie's good. But as we've marinated on the idea. I'm getting kind of hyped and excited that this might actually be a really good phil. I'm i'm tentatively excited to i'm going to see it. Go get excited. But i'm i don't wanna get disappointed but deep inside. I am kind of excited. I think we should do the midnight. Show that's how you do this. I'd be like person line back. They dated and have assigned seating. You had to get in line. Yeah you know fucking albert you just show up at twelve. Throw elbows definitely throwing elbows with my dad throwing sheds yes so so but then we were wondering all the possibilities you know. Is it a prequel. Maybe is it Because neil dies and the third one right right so i just watched the first movie up five. Am he watched this morning. Did you love it. I hadn't seen it. And i was like i'm offended. You're like i'm not letting you in the office. Lets you watch. Good as i built it up. It was fucking really good. Not better than highlander. But did you cry highland. no. I did not cry. They're sad moment. Crying was said that he cries varies. Akram the majority of the movies. Especially how but you seem like the kind of wish you was highlander. Like you just give me. There's a type of dude. that like. Highlander appeals to your that. I wish i was sort of like sword fighters immortals and the only way they can kill each other is by chopping each other chopping their heads off the greatest movie. I would love to look it up but my age doesn't work. you've gotta click hard dago. It's the greatest movie ever made you the car girl. Oh math quality than h. Doesn't work while you never had a car. Klein could be. We miss you. Bali we mitsubushi in their cars at the movie so good. They named a car no car. No iota ohio. Ohio movie bro. Dude it's got action you gotta kill. People isn't this. That's it that you list action and kill people. The stories got fucking james bond in it. You know it's fucking a time traveling. I don't think i've seen it. But i almost as being better than the mate. You almost certainly have not seen. It's pretty obscure me so good. They named a fucking car after it. They didn't name the car after the case in point. God so i don't know what do you think we hoped for matrix comes up this year. I december not far away. You know i appreciate that. I'm sick these people announcing movies like two years ahead of time. Like fuck out of here. Well my good friends. He didn't provide any spoilers or anything but he he worked on it a little bit And so he had a little bit in cyber information and he told me. I can be excited for it. Oh did he tell you anything more than that. No are you just saying that because you wanna respect his privacy. No no no. He's not allowed. But i know if dan. Dan is being a mum's the word with them. You try to get fired or something. I just don't know more. I don't i legitimately don't know anything more. He just gave me a big statement. I will tell you the same. Who's your who's your friend. I'll tell you the exact same thing as i'm telling you right now. Which is unprofessional them. Just um well my concern watching the real trailers that there was way too much action so like this is just gonna be a total action. Regurgitating from trailers trailers suck. John generally trailers saw john wick and he looks like john wick. That's we were joking. Mofokeng year john wig nieto's apparently it was because they filmed those movies. Like back to back last john wick or maybe even simultaneously same alphabet. Same wardrobe for me. Well maybe he shaves his head later. I mixed feelings. I'm excited but i'm also scared because what they did with terminator i. If you watch the new one i did. It's just been a nightmare tournament. Well i'll just spoiler in the first minute. They like shotgun. John connor to the chest and kill him the and it's like the technology so it looks just like the terminator two john connor the one that everybody kid that it's it's gotta be keanu. Yeah it's got to be right. Dan you know dan yano in the whole movie in. Yes see well. I i think so i don't know would be. That would be a big twist if he was not in the not just destroying the other movies by making a so bad basic different time wine. Then it doesn't affect the ultimate. Yeah so like watching the first one kind of fucked me out. 'cause like now i'm thinking like we are in the matrix for a year and it was five in the morning so i'm like oh shit i gotta go through the whole day with these thoughts salena matter does it mad zack's totally the guys stay in the matrix. I not i would stand matrix. Fucking blue pill come out ninety nine nine nine hundred ninety nine so like it just trip me up like are we own the matrix or zach. This conversation is like twenty five years lay. Yeah like. I literally can't do i'm not i'm not even twenty five years old so right here with me. Came out in two thousand twenty one now so it's like a twenty one year old conversation. Are we in the matrix. Yes we're in the matrix. well elon. Musk thinks were in assimilation. So yes i guess. In a way i don't know if we're being farmed For batteries of alien. When has he ever been wrong about anything never. I wonder if you guys won't get into the next thing here. Just keep talking about some of your asking go. I mean if you got more to say you're you're a first amendment right that's controlling my show. We would mean donovan. Had enough matrix talk. We've been out about the metrics all week. So yeah we can. We can move on. Well thank you for your permission. You got up. God bless you. It's been awhile since we talked about the self help or not. It's more pickup artists and pick up. Artists was a hot topic for our channel back in the day. Yeah and these guys are just era dima fucked. I mean these are guys that are just and ironically zach. You've heard the term red pill right. That comes from the matrix right. I'm aware of that. Yeah okay which is very ironic given the make views makers film the matrix. So the red pill is that association is like Wake the fuck up. Mr anderson make up people so you could apply that towards I mean giving example while they say taking the red pill is like You're you're you're waking up okay. You don't accept that you're accepting reality even if of romero money hungry. They don't care about men they just want money and i'm gonna use them like they use us now. Obviously i think that's insane. That'd be an extreme example. Red pilling is gone me in terms of the pickup stuff but Yeah these guys are irredeemably fucked in the head. And they're like in cells. And i feel like this contributes a lot to in-cell Even to like the ultimate gentleman the you know the tragedy and santa barbara is kind of. It's all connected to this crazy and seldom that treats women just like faulk objects which is super crazy. But anyway this guy. I found a new pickup artist. And this guy is a riot. I found him on. Talk of all places. And i'm captivated by everything about him. Here's the one that i saw. That started this whole wormhole. His name is owen. Cook never be a beta understand me. God just never ever do it. It is debt. Never ever do it..

"Of thousands and then this mecca. T. one thousand that the three was so good. It had the tentacles coming all over Yeah they were coming on and it was directed by james cameron. Yes he's tannin cannon. Actually yes i think there are some. There are some special edition of physical releases that actually have that shot imagery. But you've actually seen it in person where it was an entire state production where people are neal was made so that motorcycles came onstage in people like jumped out role than there were machine guns and it was an amazing interactive multimedia extravaganza with the the seats of rumbling rolling. I don't recall any shocks per se. I just know that we were like there was when the buildings collapsing and all the monsters ten goals. Yeah smoke and everything. It was fantastic I actually i do have a dvd with elvira talking about that share that i've are with anya the show was trying to remember. Was that new x-files season that came out in two thousand eighteen jaws. The very first time. I saw him with. The beard was in his episode of that it was. It was a really good episode. Well i love x. Files i've got everything on. The books of offense is happy with the the reboots and the got an echo new. It's got a really bad microphone. Sound tooling like is it me. I think We get we hear some wind from richards mike but this is the window. I'm literally hearing my echo. Not hearing you're not getting erica. I'm not hearing your any echo. It's the first time. I have heard echoed during this broadcast. I know the women's messing up because of the storm. So i probably will have to. It's not that bad before you go he. Do you see a future for the terminator lake. The you see another terminator movie happening. And especially considering the aging nature of arnold schwarzenegger the perceived failure. I don't know how much failure was hoisted upon on dark faith but like do you. Do you think the terminator has future richard. Let's blow up the planet and start a new thing. I don't wanna sky. I met this bitch. I'm saying if they destroyed the planet but a few survivors got off the planet. They would still have memory or of data of some of the original of prototypes of whatever. Then they would actually be starting new when they realized that the technology that's helping them build a new planet is actually building it to go against them so i just see like you know if they wanted to do something like outrageous like that. Otherwise t. three was actually a lot of fun. They screwed up by in a lotta areas. But t three was it. A lot of credit to christina. Logan was terminate trix. Tx jack yup and heritage. I was watching transformers. The first one the other night and i kept expecting to see her. I got the movies confused four yet. It seems like the problem of this franchises. A whole that after the terminator two which reinvented such a good way at. It's so much extra layers to that story. Thought they took the wrong message. Shrines like oh they just smell. What's love this particular story. The fact that we did something different and they've just been copying judge did thing over and over the terminated. Three too much dad. Humor horrible non chemistry between the two leagues. Even interesting. but one thing. I do think all the secrets got right as they add a new image for the vat. Terminator ben Need dr fate wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. Genesis made my brain hurt trying to figure out how they're trying to tie this continuity. This is the kind of terminator looked at it. Cool to even though the whole thing with being john connor watching. But yeah as i understand it. They wanted genesis to spin out a new trilogy as well and they wanted to senator and the idea of dark fit. Now it's a brand new company. They keep doing even salvation. I thought that opportunity for a really fun like terminator war movie doesn't have to have the same old story of having to protect somebody but this shoehorn that and there's even though they had a really great idea of death row inmate being reborn as a terminator as they keep recycling that same thing. It's like if if that's the only plot they can think of for this franchise. I don't see having a future. Well that's a very interesting question cat. How would you move. The trans are the trans. The terminator franchise forward. How would you do it. Would you do it like salvation or would you do it. Now and humanity accepts. The nuclear holocaust is being inevitable. or like. How would you move it forward. No more time travel go back in time. Kill people stuff. They've done that too many times. True coke back do go back to like the salvation timeline and have like if you don't have or maybe anything interesting to say. Maybe you just let it go. Because it's like this franchise doesn't seem to be as let it go but don't have many jumping off points to have lost all the money. Because they're not doing the scrapped. Their sequel plans for genesis they scrapped. The sequel plans dark vate which. I don't think we're going to happen anyway because linda. Hamilton didn't seem to have all that great of a time doing that movie. she's like. I was a lot harder than i thought it was going to be. And i'm just doing this. And that's it and it's like a okay because that's what they're trying to lean on. We'll bring linda hamilton. Now get people come back. We'll bring schwarzenegger. Atl get people coming back. Well if they don't think they can have any nuclear they don't think they have any new characters new type of plots they can go in there. I don't see how they can move franchise ford in any way at that point you know but but in our i would go back to the war between the machines and the humans in the future and have like a neat story out of that. That doesn't have any of them. We must protect every you know certain person type of stuff will in return only mentioned it in terms of being a fan of the comics. And are you like. Did you ever see this eric. Connor chronicles saw.

"And what have you. They start messing with the top with the date. Tom accents well Yeah well yes. As to whether i think you could put The two movies together. I could see ways where all of any of the movies could be done. better in particular the last two of they were pretty horrendous. Though they had some really good parts and i i agree Having the to linda hamilton the to ser connors of iraq would be something special. I don't know what martin plywood about that but They're like a How it should have ended animated version of the terminator and back to the future. It amazing like would also a tony. You're you're one to game. Have you played any of the terminator games. I have in fact I i got the one of the latest term guys in a stabbing style like A bathroom four months ago and I it's pretty fun first. Person gamma stealth guy And that's a multi player. You can play One person place the terminate the other person buys a a meat. Sacked revisit vita. Yeah that was in that. Yeah exactly and Yes putting his regard for humanity is writing. It's noted you have been noted duly. Yeah exactly if someone asks me to go towards the big industrial complex. I'll be like tony's working for the romans also the Eight hundred is featured in mortal kombat. Ten eleven in the air you can have you can have arnold fight robocop as well. I think didn't they. Ed rambo's wealth rambo's also in there. Yeah in that the game to like there is an there is a Robocop versus terminator game s.'s. Closest we're gonna get except for. I'd like to plug another of video channel of bat in the sun. They do a lot of parodies and they have a lot of great. They have a lot of crossovers like robocop versus terminator batman versus darth vader. So it's incredible stuff their quality He was doing. What's his name was doing some commercials a for a while and he raised the money. They got bank now danica yet. Yeah i'll have a love. Hate relationship the All i think it's a weird thing so i was doug jones maccabi the interesting joker and the obviously the guy who does those things he did that the law swim with mark madsen and East joe cat is in. He looks great. But he's he's the greatest actor in the world. He's very pantomime. Me and i was just thinking dude. You've got you've got doug jones in this film and he's playing the la i mean. Can you imagine him with the the. Was it the gentleman on. Yes buffy but as the ciocca hoagie crowd. Yeah exactly well i. I don't think that doug jones would be inappropriate. Joker he's like and you could do it with prosthetics but there is something to soft about his performances seat. Now thing is to give craig judge death. I mean that is my why. I'm really hoping now. Doug jones is not a villain. I don't know if he knows how to do a villain. Have you seen him be a villain and correct me. Please direct evidence. Labyrinth evan's leprince up buffy more physical. It's not menacing very physical. I mean the expressions and everything. I was just having a conversation with somebody. The last night of i did that screening for of of the sheep water that it was supposed to give the doug jones and i pulled out my back and wasn't able to give up to him give it to him. Well now. we're making arrangements. So i can actually physically give it to him again. That's cool nice. Congratulations here's another in an early script. Draft of terminator two judgment day. John connor who is the narrator instead of sarah mentioned judge madeup having occurred in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine t to rising storm john connor remarks the orgin original judgment day happening fifteen years ago since that story takes place in two thousand one that makes ginger judgment day happen. Approximately nineteen eighty six instead of nineteen ninety-seven as mentioned in the film. Terminator two judgment day. The film the terminator in nineteen eighty-four. Kyle reese says that the nuclear war would occur a few years from now. It's unknown if this is a continuity error or a change caused by time traveling missions. Steve can i need you a camera two for just one second sawyer. We'll be back in a second. Have you heard the rooms to richard. I gotta talk to steve. I gotta talk look inside. So steve are you bringing up all of these alternate judgement days. Because because you didn't know what the hell. I was talking about when i said it was the are you kind of busting my chops. You know all right. No i mean yes i mean judgement days you what. I don't know if you were trying to make this point but you made your point. There are a lot of judgement days. No it's the notes put together for the show. And i appreciate them completely but you keep poking holes in august twenty ninth. No no. i'm not because it is. It's for me the original date. Anything that comes after. That is Is just poetic. License will appreciate you living up on openness.

"That spoil the stakes of the original film. What do i mean by that. What i mean by that is when there is a movie and it's great and it's an adventure and it is so good that it becomes a movie. People wanna make a sequel of both because of some combination of critical reception and financial success. You'd prefer if it was a bit of both. Let's be honest sometimes. It's just the financial success but there are examples of great great action movies that have had great great sequels but in many cases you have sequels that destroy the premise and the entire plot of the first film for example. The film aliens This is one of the great action movies. Right you take alien. Classic classic horror movies. I would say a near perfect film you. Then make aliens the sequel. Now there are people out there that will say that aliens is better than elliott. I find that to be At bess churlish. If i can use that word if we don't have to bleep churlish. I mean suborning gotten academy award nomination for aliens but nothing alien. Which is an obscenity. But she's great in both films but aliens not where you get the oscar aliens. It's amazing so anyway we're in aliens and we go through this whole film. They rescue newt. michael biehn is. They're saving the day in some way or another and they escape and then david fincher gets his hands on the ip all right and get alien three and how does alien three open. It opens with the death of news. Michael biehn and the robot played by that guy from. I think a show millennium. The point is everything that happened in alien to was about saving news and then at the beginning of ailing three. She's just a fucking corpse. Floating through space in the opening frames of the film and alien three does not get better from there. Nother example terminator dark fate. We spent terminator one and t to the judgment day on a very specific mission keeping sarah connor alive so that we could keep john connor alive so that he could lead the resistance against the robots in the future and then we get the terminator dark fate and in the first few minutes of it. A terminator wanders into a bar and fucking kills john connor right in front of mental. Hi linda hamilton. Dead gone poof. While they send somebody four minutes before that. It's why never makes sense. That's why don't love time travel as a plot to face. I like time travel as a plot device when it plays by a very specific rule. Which is you cannot change the past. Then it's fun though. Call primer. Film called twelve monkeys. Are there other examples of movies. Where sequel is destroyed the original. I'm adding this to the rant right now. Which is Kendra has just reminded us of another sequel that ruins the previous movie which is Or at least the ending and the stakes of the previous movie and that is star trek. Three the searched for spock star trek to wrath of khan ends with one of the most beautiful and famous scenes..

"There probably will never be something that is as good as a couple of those sequences and so holds this very special place. I think in the history of movies that it is truly a bridge between two eras at that shot at the end of the river. Basin chase sequence when arnold and john connor are driving away on the motorbike. Or whatever and it just everything explodes behind them. I mean i feel like. I've seen that in a thousand movie montages if you need to like pick one shot to describe this like late. Eighties early nineties action genre. That's it and it was interesting. Also i did watch part of this with my husband who i think saw it around the same time you did like certainly had seen it before last night and he just kept talking about like this blew my mind when i saw it when i was ten and the bullets going into the t. One thousand and kind of making strangely beautiful kind of like metal type wounds. Then he'll you know but zach was like that just absolutely freaked me out. Blew my mind. I couldn't believe that that was happening. And i do think there's something like kind of artistic and impressive to to the way that that was conceptualized. Let alone executed they. It's still looks nice. And visually compelling as well as obviously being an innovation innovation at the time. Yeah the thing that distinguishes. I think the reason for that is in addition to james cameron being a great artist and having great taste and artisan. I should say like stan. Winston who worked on jurassic park also worked on this movie. They're a handful of visual effects. Supervisor's who worked on the big blockbusters at that time and they all tended to make the very best versions of these stories. But really if you made a movie like this and in fact there was a terminator movie. A few years ago that was not terrible but did not necessarily distinguish itself..

Five dollars around two or three fuller. It was my my brother had vhs. Like we. I would have been days in my life when i was showing that. It's weiss in one day 'cause it was just like a movie that works on weepy. I believe we had to get 'cause we saw so much that we messed up. Amperage remember el-sayed basin. He wore them all eventually Nobody has always been amazed by it. And it's like to me like honest my actor growing number one kid. You're not thinking fast foods thumbs. That doesn't happen. A my action johnson and like for your killing seen explosions straight of shooting and like is blew my mind as a kid and i started for scenario as the journey was is like the coolest thing in the world and like elliott lucy one thousands outta me like the thing is so scary like Beginning one before. He's chasing giancana beginning as john connor the brick and white school and his catching on feed. Even the his top car is is a four year old artist blown away by exists. Then there's been. My favorite movie can come as part of the movie. I saw the molding the nineties besides toy story. As i don't wanna say to myself we can keep talking. Yeah no the funny thing is that. I'm sure you both share the same sentiments i. Oh i i saw terminator two actually. Didn't see the first one i so when i found out i always thought arnold was the good guy so terminator one i. Yeah when seen terminator one on my oh shit. He's the bad guy so this whole good guy. Bad guys switch was a was a twist that that was brilliant filmmaking and you got not for that no they don't spoil it. Do they know the first teaser is really just like them building. Terminator and the see arnold funding. It has it has to be so like you just thought it was going to be like was like he was gonna be resurrected and try to kill but they did spoil it in the second one but for me they could gone a little more of that journey with his records. Like the old now is to terminators after john conard but whatever probably one of the cell that was a good guy good bug nights anyone. He had become like action hero when the first one came out he was corning barbarian. Yep so it kind of makes sense that they wanted a market. He was a good summer off of elliot. What about you did you know he was the good guy going. Were you surprised. He was the bad guy in the first one. Yeah like just like you guys yet. T- to was my first experience in terminator..

You're you're capitalist ways but also think what it does to minority kids who are taught now that anybody with a different color skin is out to get him and If they're poor it's because of of their race and it's because white people done this too. That's not really good thing do when you're in a in a free market economy and you wanna encourage people to get up there. Shake hands with people get out there and one of the good things about capitalism is is you have to be friendly to your potential customer so you find that that business has that way of doing things. In that scenario i guess but i also wonder like how none of that can be changed if the people involved know that they can do nothing and still have. It happened like yeah because raises john. Just be so fucking lazy like do nothing. John none of this ship matters life is just an immutable series of events. That are going to happen. No matter what you do is seems like that would have an effect on it. Like what are just as a joke like. She's she's just she. Three million people are going to die. And what the fell show. I'm just gonna. I'm going to raise john connor to eat twinkies. I want him to go into his teenage years weighing four hundred pounds of type two diabetes. Like do they do. Do we cut to the future. And we see this massive six hundred pound man with with scarface and binoculars scanning the battlefield like and are there that and which events are the important events. They're immutable right. Like is john bertha john connor which that's the ultimate sarah. Sure but what. His father is came from the future. How to fuck this. I don't know there's some time loops happening. But like you know if there's a series of very important events in his life that shaped him how do you transition from the life that he could have had. Which is the four hundred pound twinkie eating diametic teenager to the grizzled war vet like where is the transition and what if like the day before. He's the same four hundred pound guy the next day. He has to be that john connor. What magic happens to turn him into that. I don't know unless every gastric bypass surgery. I guess i guess but the four they go back in time and they give him gastric bypass surgery a year before he has to fit through a rat hole. That's going to allow him to escape. The terminator's right. I guess this is just like trying to pit all the different ideas about butterfly effect and just like all these different these disparate ideas together. Yeah fit them into the same puzzle and it does. This movie has to chrome doubt exo skeletal middle fingers. All of those concept is it's it's it's full on. Who gives a fuck nerd. This is cool. But i think like the character john. Connor makes a lot of sense in this movie. You know he's he's been raised by okay so first of all. He's he's never known his dad right before before. I wanted because we're about to touch on a point. Nick ones such as i want to go back and talk to be bag. He says big plan. I have about this movie's having to listen to edward furlong. The young john connor squeal throughout the movie. I know it's accurate. It's hard to find young guys who can hold their own alongside arnold but fucking gets under my skin. Every time he gets excited. Yeah high heels. So i agreed with him and i think going to dovetail nicely in your point as i've seen his movie like twenty times now i feel like that he actually did a pretty good job playing a ten year. Old john connor. It's just he was really terribly written. Yeah i don't. I don't have huge problems with. He's written sorta like a kid. But maybe what a forty year old guy would think a cool kid with talkline right right and reality john. Connor would not be a cool kid. He'd he'd be a loner. It'd be a lower. He would be weird. He'd be awkward. He would be very interesting guy to talk to you because he knows how to hag. Atm's and pray another loser kid which they nail that and they would justify obviously cool as well right. And he's he's almost like bart simpson ing dialogue. I almost feel like he's nelson type character from like Breakfast club okay okay. I almost feel like he's that character. Who is not cool in the traditional sense of word. He's not emilio estevez in that movie writer. Who's the actual i guess. Cool one but he definitely has an opinion on what he thinks is cool. Yeah and he will let you know what it is. He'll let you know what it is in the most vociferous way possible so i feel like john. Connor is just doing the same thing. Yeah and the other thing about the john connor. He's he's he's really. There's a couple of scenes where he's just a expect giving exposition like the scene where You know leads to him finding out that he's got his own pet terminator arnold's under his control. He's sitting there telling arnold his life story to this point which arnold has details files on more does and there's a couple of other scenes where he's like explaining to his young is is is read it sidekick about his his situation and it's like that's hard that's hard for any actor to deal with man that's a lot of wooden 's leaden dialogue and then you had the bart simpson like. It's too bad because like you know like jake lloyd. We saw jake lloyd in jingle all the way and we're like hey that's a pretty good child actor. We seem star wars. The phantom in. It's like this guy's fucking terrible. Like i don't and you wonder like Was a haley joel. Osmond who's the kid in the six cents Yeah if he. If george lucas had gotten a hold and made a can skywalker right. Would we think. Oh this kid's socks and he'd have flamed out never had the the you know maybe so but but you give him a director like is in is in nice shamil line. Is he a good director. Patrick i can't even tell anymore. I don't know but yeah i i guess yes. He's annoying but i don't think it's the kids fault. I think it's the adults false because there's a couple scenes where he's really pretty fucking good. Yeah i think dialogue is not great. But i do think the character of john connor makes a lot of sense if you think about it. He's never he's never known his father he couldn't right right time. Traveller died before his his his and his father's not even been born yet so impossible to know him. His mother each blew up a computer factory as he said get shot gets arrested and taken to the funny farm because she's espousing this true story about the nature of his father and the future and like you. What do you think about that as a kid. How could you possibly you kind of feel that will worldview. John is river. Phoenix character from mosquito coast with harrison ford as his father except for not only that but also harrison turns out to be a cybernetic terrorist. Right as a mind fuck and then you find out that he was right all along right. I feel like they did nail that. Can you imagine this kid. He's running around running guns and dune crazy stuff in the jungles of south america and go in the eastern bloc countries in europe and doing all this cool stuff and told these the most important and then like probably when he's like eight or nine years old said. Oh sorry your mom's a psycho. Didn't you know that was a good moment. He nailed it and well written too. Yeah yeah exactly like which you would do. Probably i think so you see he seems like you know. And and once he learns of that once he understands the the true nature of his mother's lunacy or perceived lunacy He is surprisingly well.

"That i mean if you want to theorize about it a super intelligence that i do that humans can understand that i guess i have no answer for you because i don't and that's what he is really smart people that like you can't you can't even you can't even get your get your hands around the set domain of all the threats here. Sure that's scary thing. The interesting thing. That's the first time i've actually noticed this. Is that the arnold toward the a hundred kills. No one in this movie. that's true. Yeah even before he tries to. He tries to once but there's multiple opportunities where he probably could and should have killed people like the biker. Gang like these guys in physically attacking them he non lethally subdues them. All i think in the first movie everyone in that biker. Gabbara dies so. I think that must have been a deliberate decision about cameron that the hero in this case. A hundred even in when it's in his nature to kill and he's not under the governing principles of john connors thou shalt not kill. Doesn't kill you body just to make sure that he's unquestionably morally. A good guy. Do you think that's a smart decision or do you think it would have been more interesting to see arnold killing and then john connor putting the kabosh on it and seeing him struggle with that because no i think it. It's infinitely more interesting to have him not killing anybody and at the request of the human being because it's almost like well. No i'm talking about in. The beginnings should should arnold have killed a few fools in the beginning before he hooks up with john connor and he tells them not to kill people. Oh maybe so. I mean i. It seems to me like there are a couple of messages that that's trying to get across. Which is a the end zone. Necessarily justify the means like yeah. You're going to save humanity. But if you have to resort to the same tactics as your enemy. Are you any better. Are you deserving of being saved at all And i also think it has it has to do with like humanity continuing its trend violence And maybe getting beyond that road and you know creating this thing. That doesn't understand that. That's a noble goal if a machine can understand the value of human life. Maybe we all right says that as much. Here's the thing. I don't fucking by arnold schwarzenegger as the terminator understood anything about humanity. At the movie he was following a fucking commandment from his god. Thank you like. Because that's the i get it because there's a one point where you know. They're on the way to stop from trying to kill the dyson scientist Who later decided He ri- we she she they rob the world of superior vacuum cleaner and sure we stopped cyber dine but now we don't have bagless vacuum cleaners. Okay was i going to this. Oh they're on the way and arnold like you know. Killing this guy is actually a really good idea like it could ward off the death of three billion people and john connor says. Don't you get it yet. you just can't kill people right. I think that's a week thesis. I think that's a thesis that has merit. But they did not articulate enough to where i bought that arnold would organically. Yeah like like he's a learn. I could teach a machine to value the sanctity of human life. They just didn't do it. They didn't advance. I get john. Carter supposed to be ten year old boy. He probably is not going to have somewhat super articulate argument. But right then i guess it's a little bit of iron giant. Does the same thing too but they got like woods with some visuals like you know the iron giant got that. It's wrong to kill things. Because he saw something beautiful in gentle be destroyed for damn good reason yeah values you never see like the terminator getting the weight of what he's done and org and deciding you know like and he never makes a connection with anyone that he's not program to write like he's program to protect and serve the connors so like it's not even like i i mean i think it works because arnold matic as hell and it's it's kind of like poignant when he's being slowly look you know lowered into the molten metal and he says i know now why you cry but it's something i can never do sure fine but that is does seem like it's you know it's an action movie. What am i expecting. It was either to shortcut for me or it. Just wasn't it just wasn't the right way of telling me that he understood because i like i didn't feel like he actually understood. I felt like he was following programming and row. They do some throwaway line where he's like. Oh i i learned from humanity. I i like become more human as i spend more time around humans but why. Why is your goal to become more human direct graham. The director. yeah. The director's cut goes in ever really awesome scene where they use linda. Hamilton's twin to do a mere sequence where she's operating on arnold schwarzenegger's head. Okay looks looks utterly convincing like they're doing it because you know it just so happens. Linda hamilton has an identical twin. That they can do this mirror fact. And it's fucking rad. but she. He says that he's like the cyber dyne or skynet makes terminator's in read only mode so they don't go off script on missions but you can actually flip a switch that they go into learning emulating mode which can make him a better infiltrator program like he's got vast reams of information about human anatomy not to be a good doctor but the b-better killer you've got these things where he can emulate and empathize with humans. Not so that he can. You know bridge the gap between humans machines because he can be a better infiltrator. I guess that seems like a fairly important scene. Not sure why they cut it because it makes a movie fifteen minutes. I mean i think i mean if it's no i mean there's lots of little things like i think. The director's edition is the superior version of the film. Almost but but but that's also not say it's kind of like the director's edition or the extended cuts us. Lord of the.

"This little surprise jim. That we've we've uncovered here. You mean maybe the best action movie of all time like i. That's contract because i think it's still predator. I mean this is up there. It's updates run for its money to spectacle of it. Yeah but it also for some i. Almost i don't know because this does more than predator like this has some interesting things about family dynamics. And it's it's guy time travel and it's you know the the prime one hundred billion dollars in its budget just for special effects and stunts. It's got some of the finest work i've ever seen. Yeah i do. Think it's one a one. B okay and i guess yeah you can argue about which one is better or worse for various reasons but sure. I mean as far as action movie goes. Yeah it's one of the best of all time. Just straight up. yeah. I can't think of a better one unless unless it's predator. I mean aliens is also really fucking. Good yeah i just james cameron just like crush sequels. Is he just like you made a movie. You want to bring in a guy to crush your sequel and his own sequel like turkey for six million dollars and he's like you know what's better than you know as better than six million dollars. Eighty five to one hundred ten made it the most expensive movie ever made and you know i stay. I saw a little tidbit that this movie made. Its money back because the because. Here's a theme James cameron was a quantity but arnold schwarzenegger. You guys cannot. If you didn't if you weren't growing up you cannot conceive of how big draw arnold was like arnold commanded like twenty thirty million dollars of being a picture because he was such a bankable star and this movie made its complete production budget bag just on the worldwide distribution rights. Oh wow so before take it one was sold. This movie was in the black jazz incredible. That's incredible yeah. I can't imagine how much money this movie man honestly like like. I you know like this avatar sequels. As far as i know are in kind of like development hell like every other thing james cameron has ever done. Like titanic like but are you going to bet against him one of these days. He's going to fail when these he's gonna he's gonna make his istar or whatever and it's going to fall on his face but i haven't lived to see it yet. What do you think the box office for. Terminator two was if you had guests worldwide or us. That's a good question. i don't. I don't know i have a number in front of me. He's if it's if it's us. I wanna say two hundred and fifty million if it's worldwide's probably four or five five hundred nineteen point eight million she. I'm gonna guess that's insane. I mean if you look at that and adjust for inflation over twenty five years. Yeah i i don't know i mean it's still up there in the ranks. The biggest grossing movies. I think king kong is still like it's like i've seen like a lot of different adjusts king kong. The original is still like so far ahead of anything just because it was the only movie out for years depression. And yeah you could see it for for fifteen cents. And the hundred billion people saw for that. But and now it's fifteen cents is worth ninety dollars who cares. Nick didn't didn't loan want us here. Talk about adjusted inflation numbers for incredible. Though i mean it was insanely popular and also this movie so you do. It's funny because i thought going into this like oh. We'll it'll probably be this. Got a lot to talk about because we live. Louis love arnold. The movie is superior. It's a lot of fun. Plus has got the sci-fi time travel aspect that you know we traditionally kind of delve into i. Don't there's a whole lot to talk about because it time travel is just nonsense by the time. They just do whatever's cool. The paradoxes are introduced in the impossibilities. They don't they don't they. Don't give a shit about now. You think in terminator three they start carrying a little bit. But but it's still but it's probably too late at that point. Yeah because essentially like the no matter what you do you still can't change future. So here's the question like okay. I have a few questions. I guess about the time travel could the t. One thousand have ever actually killed john connor. Even if john offered him up and said offered himself up like walked out said here. I am riley right with the university of fire and slammed into depth. Right fit i guess Causality question there paradox. Paradoxical the other thing is it's like if if the resistance knows that the terminator was sent back in particular point in tom. Why would you send them back at that same time. Why wouldn't you send them back five years and like prepare them properly or get them into concrete bunker or make sure sarah. Connor doesn't get arrested in the first place. Like there's so many places by but but it's always hp cooler. It's always cool to abdul protagonist square off against the implacable terminator right. And also how. How did they know what date they sent. That the t. One thousand back to so in the first the first style thing and the first movie the resistance like got to the heart of of cyber dyne and they like uncovered the time travel equipment and they saw. I guess as recovered really. There's like a clock. Like i mean jumps in the cockpit of the. That's exactly i was gonna make. It's like if you stole the time for the if you stole. Doc brown's delorean after he had travelled through time. You would know the exact date that he'd gone except the delorean goes with him but as just sins which proves pearl more realistic. Probably if you're going to call such thing. I don't know the the other question i had all dog said all this science fiction science fantasy. It's just all it's all exists to be really fucking cool right and it services the plot i mean we talk about all the different impossible prepared. Oxygen hebrew poses one. That i don't think is actually a paradox. He says like win. If if the chip is destroyed the final shape is destroyed. Shouldn't that caused the terminator's to have never existed. I think he's right. I mean because he's but he's only right. If the memories of the terminator's would.

So the fritz all right so anyway you had a problem with one problem with A terminator he's very well thought through so well thought through through so he goes back in time to kill the the possible parents of of John connor leader of the of the new movement are the resistance but only add to do is prevent his parents meeting each other. I mean you can go back four generations earlier and just put on a different train so they never meet and that entire genetic lineage cover exists right right so this idea that he's got to kill them and it's gonna be all bloody that made it like a violent movie but it could have been on a little more with with less blooding gore but also just the fact that when he comes through he comes out butt naked. Remember that out in this bubble and you remember why had to come through but naked. Because i am flesh off into skeleton because nothing no living tissue. No dentition may go through right. I keep trying to hit the button that lets me turn it off, so I can cloth and not cough in your ear. I didn't realize that Sometimes the buttons not turned itself back on correctly, So I apologize for that. Really want to get back to what Mike was asking. You brings up a very important point. That explains a lot about the soil biology. Here's the deal. Yes. Some of the biology is happiest in the top eighth of an inch. Some of the biology lives down six inches deep in the soil, and they're not really interchangeable. Their environments of defined and when you move them, they're not going to suddenly go. OK, I'm just going to change up here. You may slow them down. You may kill them. They may not work like they're supposed to anymore. So the killing of the soil the constant moving the changing of the soil depth. Generally not a good practice. Now. If you want to find a tool that does a fantastic job. The effectively killing the soil without doing this kind of damage to it. Simply loosens the soil doesn't change where the soil death is, doesn't move this biology around. You want to look up a tool called a broad fork. Media say. Mechanical tool, self powered And It requires you To do some physical labor. But the process that uses loosens the soil without transporting it doesn't take low soil make it high soil or vice versa. It breaks up some of the lumps in the school to help improve that Children of it. Abroad forks and old tool that is usually referenced as a manual tiller. And you know a person putting in a little effort. Can he until a quarter of an acre in a day? Now, If you look at the tool, you don't have to have one to be able to get the principal right? If you simply have a garden fork and you look at how abroad fork is used. This is a method to change the oil in terms of helping to create the till Without moving the soil profile around that could affect the soil biology. So check out how abroad for work is used. Check out how you might do the same thing with a simple garden fork. The idea is not till the soil The idea's to simply break the soil to improve its till toe allow nutrient and water and oxygen and all those good things. Wind up being in the soil where we want it to be. So Yes. Very important that we try to leave the biology where it's at. We will have healthier biology. We will disturb it less. We will cause less impact on what's there. But it is also a reduction in labor. Mike said he was constantly adding new compost. New organic matter every season. That's a good thing. Sometimes the soil needs some help till it reaches that level until where it behaves itself and does what you're looking for. So It can be a bit of an art form. And sometimes it's not a right or wrong thing used the gardener. We're going to recognize quality of your garden long before somebody else is going to tell you how to do it. You're gonna be able to go out there and you're gonna know is my garden efficient with water Use Am I getting plans to take up the nutrients properly? My getting the growth that I expect out of the garden is the soil behaving the way it should be. You will literally. Develop a feel for that, and It's not a black and white answer for everybody. Everybody soil is different. Everybody location in Texas is different. You know, it's well as I do. You could walk across the street and go from rock to clay in the blink of an eye. So Mike's doing the right thing. And adding the compost every year what we want to do. We can still do that action of breaking up the soil, but we couldn't do it without acting like we're taking everything. 12 inches deep and putting it on top of the soil. That is not the goal we're trying to achieve. We'd like everything in that soil to be loose and stay right where we found it. That's going to give us the best conditions. Focuses his gardening. San Diego Comic-Con 2019: What's Happened So Far
"And writer. Why trembling so we are here again? We have experienced Thursday this the first day of this edition of Comecon it started out kind of slow do say so myself yeah. This is a strangely empty. Day was only one major studio Jio handle maybe to include H._B._O.. But it's Duffy the quieter Thursdays who seem quite some time yeah I know you rushed over to haul age to cover the terminator dark fate panel in you. Send us a photo of like the Rome from half empty filled up towards the end as people serve realizing they can get in but with ten minutes ago they were literally thousands of seats less than how each and I was on the show floor earlier today to record video and boy was that place busy so all the people that weren't in hall age for on the show floor <hes>. Let's talk about Terminator. I know they release something online right from that. Yeah they released a brief each threat they also showed during the panel panel also gut which seemed to be an extended trailer zooming longer version of will be online. You know soon enough. What was that plus a panel with the cast in director to Miller Arnold Schwarzenegger limbs were they are so then he felt like an event even if the room wasn't as packed act as usual yet we learnt big news <hes> one of the original cast members returning yet his as interestingly James Cameron wasn't there came into do a livestream we have to set or to the Edward Furlong on we'll be back as John Connor at quartz by John Connor Interior to in return for new sequels <hes> but he's nowhere to be seen in the footage so these symptoms role is unknown of this time tech is not in the footage suggests babies a brief brief appearance Republican? You and James Cameron Nas in a strange rate to come off hand mentioned. He's go yeah. Edward Furlong is back yet ended I from what I heard from inside sources that he might not be reprising his role as John Connor. I don't know what the wait and see that one. I'm wondering if digital recreation Edward Furlong honestly yes Edward Furlong. Isn't this movie the other thing is. I don't think if they're not the show him in the trailers. I don't think anybody's going to recognize him. Have you seen him lately. I have not he does not look anything like images of him. After this announcement did not like he doesn't look rate. He doesn't look camera. You I will say yeah now. That's for sure okay so the footage. You guys did say what you think. What did you say after being really really underwhelmed by the first <unk> online account win this panel expecting the worst end? What we saw looked pretty? We do <unk> yeah. I was surprised too. I think the first trailers try to hold back a little bit too much what the Terminator Nece of it all but here in this footage that we finally hear Linda Hamilton as their connor say I'll how did that and that was the thing that shares that will the thing that was like oh it grabbed. My attention was important that we talk about from this footage thing that people don't believe what I tell them is the or Schwarzenegger's new Terminator Peter's named Carl that is funny. Is that something we didn't know before he's playing a whole new character character whole determiner named Carl and the food we saw opens with extended version of seeing the trailer. It should be mentioned that you have a dog very strange began with a Mexico car chase the desert's Mexico where candidate for security grace is defending <hes> to to be hunted by Terminator <unk> Gable Luna as give Lewis driving at semi-truck and they're like pick up as big fight scene as a bowl cars crashing and Sarah Connor Arriving Saves Day with machine-gun rocket launcher casually blowing orange and say I'll be back grabbing a shotgun off of it was a cool crowd pleasing thing very big very slick looking to mellow the director who deductible

Climate Cast
Expert: White House shouldn't ignore security threats from climate
"Support for climate cast comes from Bank of America financing clean energy initiatives and advancements in renewable energy and spurring innovation in and the growth of environmentally focused companies markets and jobs Bank of America, NA, member FDIC. Is climate change already costing the US military billions. I'm NPR chief meteorologist, Paul hunter. This is climate cast national security experts have identified threats from climate change for more than a decade. There are threats to US military facilities from rising season. Rivers. Just this month. Much of off at air force base near Omaha was underwater early damage estimates. There are in the tens of millions and a climate change in Hansard hurricane Michael destroyed or damaged up to seventeen f twenty two fighters at Florida's Tyndall air base. Last fall that damage price tag likely runs into the billions this month. Fifty eight former military and national security officials sent a letter to President Trump. The letter objects to the idea of a White House panel that disputes military and intelligence analysis of climate threats. John Connor is the director of the center for climate and security. You ask your sign. Scientists and your national security officials to provide their best judgment whether it's their best scientific judgment or their best military judgement or their best intelligence analysis. So that you can make a as a leader the best decision possible to skew that information is to ensure that you're going to make an ill informed decision. You've been on the inside of this John. I'm curious about how this process works in. What ways does the national security community assess climate change as a threat to national security one way is the threat to infrastructure as we deal with sea-level rises, we deal with wildfires as we deal with flooding as we deal with extreme weather resilience and readiness are things that we should incorporate into our basis into our infrastructure. Let's talk about the current catastrophe in Mozambique and think a little more globally. We've got hundreds of dead more than one hundred thousand displaced in Mozambique. Bekes Bob, way and Malawi. This is a massive humanitarian crisis, and I'm not trying to be callous in asking this. But how does acuity analysts assess these events as security threats in the future each of these things causes displacements that will drive instability. They will make it more likely to have populations suffering makes it more likely that there will be displaced peoples who might be available for recruitment to extremist organizations, each of these pieces of the puzzle have security implications, and that is part of a larger fabric that has to be analyzed. John conger director of the center for climate and security great discussion today. Thanks for your insight. Happy to be here. My name is Melanie chevelle Stora. I'm faculty member at university of Minnesota in the college of design, and I do teaching research and service in energy shoes in the built environment. There's few ways in which we can impact building energy use one is if it's a new building, you know, we design it right to begin second. Is we're going into a retrofit system. There's different ways to think about it. There's the building skin or the exterior walls, you can impact that you can impact the behavior of the people, and you can impact the systems within that retrofit situation by systems. I mean mechanical systems that do heating and cooling and ventilation. One of my research. Areas is we are trying to figure out ways of doing retrofits inexpensively. So what we're trying to do is can you code buildings with a modulating layer that changes the environment of the building itself. So that idea is suddenly you're from being a Minnesota weather. You're maybe say, a central US weather is what you're seeing around the ability. So that to far out idea, but practically there's lots of things that people. Can do right now. A very easy way to reduce energy, use changing your light bulbs. Right LED bulbs. If you just change everything you can even Chandler Lear bulbs as LED. An reassure people that everybody can do this. It doesn't have to be expensive. It doesn't have to be very time consuming. Really everyone into it. That's climate cast. I'm NPR chief meteorologist, Paul hunter.
